"Not only would we make the weekly pay that would sustain a middle -class lifestyle, we also would make individuals, meaning that when those shows were rebroadcast in foreign markets or on cable television, we would receive checks in the off times that perhaps we're not working on a show or perhaps we're on a hiatus that would pay our bills continue and to sustain a decent lifestyle. All of that has gone away. Streaming has introduced the idea of what's called a mini room, which is a studio concept that is mini in every way. Mini in size, mini in duration, mini in pay. And that means you gather together a very small number of writers and you pay them at the minimum rate allowed in our contract to produce 10 episodes. say And produce I meaning write, they're not actually producing it because again a production occurs much later, but they're writing say 10 episodes of television in 10 weeks. And then they're sent off to try to fend for themselves the for rest of the year and that is simply not sustainable. Lisa how far apart based upon your understanding how far apart is the union and the industry and second how long is the union prepared to stay out? Sure, so as an officer of the guild I have been involved in the negotiations from the start and I will say that the studios simply refuse to even engage with us on our core issues. So I would say far we're apart still until they come back to us and say okay we hear you on your core issues this is our counter offer and then we can come back with another counter offer. That's what a negotiation is and they have refused to even negotiate on those points so we do need to get there as far as how long we are willing to stay out. I talk to membership every single day as do the other officers and the other members of the negotiating committee and the other elected officials and our unity is strong, our solidarity is strong now that we have had 160 ,000 reinforcements when SAG -AFTRA joined us on the line. The feeling is that we have to we get what came for. We have to get what we came for or else it is an absolutely an existential crisis for us. The career of writing for Hollywood will no longer exist so I believe that we are willing to do what it takes. All right Lisa, much thank you very for taking the time. Really appreciate it. I know it's a contentious issue on both sides and hopefully both sides to come to an agreement sooner rather than later. A lot of jobs at stake and a lot of folks are it. depending upon So Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, Vice President of Film, Television and Streaming for the Writers Guild Guild of America East giving us the latest on those negotiations and Jess, unfortunately, as Lisa was pointing out, like it seems they're still quite far apart. Yeah with both sides digging in their heels the strike could last a while and uncertainty there is about basically how long. Yeah and you think about the fall season such as it still is. You think about movies that need to be made and all that type of stuff hopefully sooner rather than later. This is Bloomberg. Let's get some company news right now. Steve Rappaport. Paul you were just talking about Hollywood strikes. Now let's go to a potential strike that might have been averted. The UPS strike. The Teamsters union says it has reached a tentative agreement with the company. It says the five -year contract raises wages for all workers creates full -time jobs and dozens of workplace protections. In a twitter post the union said it is quote the most historic tentative agreement for workers in the history of UPS. They were running short on time to get a deal done. The current contract at the end of this month shares of UPS right now up less than 1%. General Motors raised profit its target for the year by at least 1 billion dollars amid demand for its gas and diesel fueled SUVs and trucks. Second quarter earnings beat analyst estimates on stronger than expected US sales. CFO Paul Jacobson tells Bloomberg TV the company isn't sure that they'll be able to raise prices across the board. We see a lot of stability in the market. We're just kind of taking it one day, one month at a time and watching the results come in. And we've got to be focused on quality and we've got to be focused on getting production in the vehicles that customers want. Jacobson also said that higher interest rates aren't stopping consumers from taking on loans. GM has written loans at a higher share the first in half of the year than traditionally using high quality borrowers. And shares of iRobot down more than 12 % after Amazon said it's paying less to acquire the Roomba Maker. That's about 15 % less than its original offer. The price changes to account for $200 million in fresh financing taken out by the company to fund ongoing operations. And those are the company stories we're following this hour. I'm Steve Rappaport and this is Bloomberg. Global market news changes in an instant. So don't miss a minute. Listen to Bloomberg Radio anytime anywhere around the world. On the iHeart Radio app. Tune in. The Bloomberg Business app and Bloomberg I'm Emily Chang. With no fees or minimums and no draft fees, banking with Capital One is the easiest decision in the history of decisions. Kind of like choosing Derek Jeter is the pinch hitter for your baseball team. Jeter you're in. We need a home run. I'll give it a bat once or twice. That's out of here. Yep, even easier than that. With no fees or minimums and no overdraft fees, is it even a decision? "You so much we appreciate that. Jessman Paul Sweeney here in the Bloomberg Interactive Broker Studio and of course we are streaming live on YouTube you can head over to YouTube and search Bloomberg Global News and that's where you'll find us and Jess I don't know about you but I'm just sick and tired of this recession call. There's going to be recession at since some point the beginning of time but we've been talking about this for 18 months. Right and they continue to get pushed back and then if talk you to people say like Gina Martin Adams over at Bloomberg Intelligence talking about how the stock market is a forward -looking indicator clearly really seeing better times ahead and especially when you're looking at corporate profits into earning season even though it's supposed to be the steepest in the decline if you look at earnings excluding energy in the S &P 500 signaling five times ahead in the second half half of the year. Yeah you know it's just you keep hearing these economists saying oh we have to push it back push it back. Well of course you have to push back it I mean I don't get it let's talk to an expert here on the stock market here because we've got green on the screen S here &P up by one quarter of one percent. Bailey Lipschultz joins us here in our Bloomberg Interactive Broker Studio. He covers all the markets for us. Bailey what are you looking at today on a busy earnings day? Yeah a lot moving to the up and downside. Best performer in S &P 500 is Packaging Corp of America. They make a container board in some of those products that are basically turned into boxes. That stock right now up double digits and to leading peers outperforming on the day. Just wanted to call out very briefly as you mentioned that UPS FedEx news actually down eight tenths of one percent and UPS giving back the bulk of those gains. So obviously something to keep an eye on. You know I once made a private investment in a packaging company that made card -gated boxes. Did make a nickel. I was at probably 10 years before this whole e -commerce thing just exploded. I mean I had the right idea. I was just off by a decade. How frustrated were you pal? We couldn't give the company away at the end. Anyway just it's and the stock's up 10 percent. It's up 20 percent year -to -date good for them. Leading to strengthen peers including International Paper, Strock and Crown Holdings though many of these stocks are actually trading lower on a 12 -month basis. So performing kind of in the grand scheme of thing. Another company that did have results over in Europe LVMH Beating expectations on the top line but when you look in a little bit the ADRs trading under LVMUI bit of a mouthful down three percent. Looking into the release though signs showing that demand for luxury goods actually slowing here in the U .S. Economic recovery in China maybe a bit lumpier than many were expecting so we saw that actually showing up in a bit of weakness for some U .S. companies. Looking at pre -holdings ticker CPRI right now down about one point three percent. So bit of uncertainty around some of those luxury spending trends as we continue to deal with that. What we haven't seen or I haven't seen in New York is the Chinese tourists back on you know like Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue because you used to see that and I know that's why you know those retailers love because the Chinese are such strong consumers of the luxury products and then they're just you know they've reopened but from what I understand they haven't necessarily come back as tourists to New York and other places. Yeah no I mean at least just man on the street reporting. Yeah I would say the Europeans are back in mass you know and right and America's basically taken over Europe this summer with all the tourism over there so but we just need to get the Chinese to start traveling again. To switch back I mean talking about traveling trends Alaska Air right now down 12 percent leading peers to trade lower you're looking at Southwest down 5 .8 percent United Airlines down 4 .6 again we talked about this earlier CFL warning of pressure from falling ticket prices so certainty around whether consumers not only here in the US but maybe overseas wanting to spend big on travel through the rest of the year again this is a group broadly speaking that has been one of the best performers so far year to date you look at a stock like United Airlines still up 42 percent even though they're down five almost five percent today so still one of the better out performers alongside some of those big tech names which we obviously will be getting results from a handful including Microsoft and alphabet after the bell today yeah if you look at those passenger lines in the S &P 500 this year up about 25 percents really helping the discretionary sector out as well as those home builder stocks I'm not flying unless somebody pays me to fly that's the new strategy here alright Bailey thanks so much for joining us Schultz Bailey he covers all the markets for Bloomberg News joins us here in our Bloomberg Interactive Broker Studio I'll tell you what it is very difficult to be a media investor these days I follow this sector for more than 30 years Taze is as tough as it's ever been you've got this whole business model evolution or you know is switching from the core you know cable TV model now to the streaming model you don't know where those economics are going and now you've of got a strikes couple in the industry one with the writers another with the actors we want to get kind of the latest on what's going on there what's really some of the fundamental issues here we're joined by Lisa Takeuchi -Cullen, Vice President of Film, TV and streaming for the Writers Guild of America East some basic guessing that's kind of a New York thing.

"Welcome back to the what difference does it make podcast and our guest genus shock of the go-goes and also author of made in hollywood all access with the go-goes with belinda. She's still wearing. Where she wearing the the hefty bags. Every every story i read about was like. It's always belinda. With this girl with hefty bag. Cinched up everybody would wear whatever they could get their hands on. We were punks. Okay we'll just however we felt like dressing. There were no rules. Gina wearing wearing the best of so the girls. Jane took me out and help me get more apropos clothing for for the punk scene in la but it didn't take long like cut. She cut my hair. Real short died lack in oxidative. Really quickly i mean i certainly had that attitude attitude now i just i needed to. I was coming more from like being a musician rather than any particular scene. But i've said in it spoke to me. It made sense. I got it with all that anxious about i had you know. And all of this my whole history. The hope this goose will be in photographs in my book made now he would which is coming out. All this will be revealed and i actually wrote. I think there's like thirty thousand words. I was just gonna put out a like a goes coffee table book and art book because they have so many photographs from over the years and i was always carrying a camera around with man snapshots of everything that was going on in the early days and there came a point where i was warning. Put this all in one place. You know i had stuff Closets under the bed never ever anywhere. He could trump victor's but had to find the right person to help you get it together. The girls were one hundred percent behind. It finally got it together. Put those photographs in this book and made in hollywood will be out and i am really crowded very excited for everyone to see it. The girls had seen it yet. They're dying to get their own. I just i talked to the publisher yesterday. It was like you know. Can you get everybody there. Send the book will you. Well we've seen it. And i just have to say you know as a fan. I love the way that you put it together. You said it could just been a coffee table book with photographs. I loved all the essays everything everything that was written by everybody else. First of all the the foreword by By kathy i is probably the best forward to a book that i have ever read because it gave such great insight and the way it talked about you and your vision from behind from from the throne. I just thought it was a great forward but the whole thing thing. I've been listening to you guys forever. But i learned a lot from you know from my perspective. You know what was going on and the photographs. Tobacco everything up. I don't know. I didn't think i could really write a book but look at those photographs. Made it easy because i remember everything was going on at as you. Look at a photograph remember. Everything was happening at time or you hear a song. It's the same thing that i it triggers the the same kind of chemicals to happening your brain where you know you remember all that stuff. There was one particular pitcher. I guess you're probably in the dressing room. And you have cameras snapping a picture with kathy and you could see your camera. Was that your camera that you had with you at all time. What what was what is your camera and it got stolen force. But yet that wasn't in the drive with that was that shot was in a hotel room that was after a show and we had got back in. I take my makeup already kathy. Taking her makeup off after a show. That's that photograph that you you commented somewhere you were the one or or maybe it was said the sort of the historian you were the one taking. The most pictures is nobody. Nobody had been had a camera. Nobody was doing that. And i just had a love with photography from before being in the band was snapping pictures on the way driving out from baltimore. What you see in the book. I just had a love of takeuchi and still do tell you and ringo starr both radio ringo camera rangel. You're gonna meet a lot of people in a couple of weeks. The go-goes are going to the rock and roll hall of fame. Is that true. Yeah about that. How 'bout that spectacular. So i have to say you know what better late than never we were all sort of over the whole idea of it. 'cause every year we come and go. We're like god damn what's wrong. We should be in the rock and roll hall of fame especially dunno. She's getting a lot of pressure from my friends more than than the band. All your friends like what's what's going on. What's up with this. I don't know you know we're just doing what we do. We know what our contribution was and is and will just continue. Don't redo and hopefully they're going to recognize that so then it happens. You know we were nominated. Now we're gonna be inducted site. He finally it's great. It's a wonderful thing. I'm pretty excited about it now. I know everyone in the band's excited about it now. You have credibility with your friends far away. you're someone like oh god neither. Can i timed up. Do you think it was the documentary. Last year. that came out. That was like you know what the cocos had quite dave. I think that really sort of jogged people's memories and got their flowing in go-goes manner think like people started thinking more about the ban because vacuum memory was fantastic house now with a an incredible job. What a brilliant documentary she is. The wishy told her story was perfect. I mean we couldn't have been happier with the way she put it together and how she edited it. I love that document. We're all very very happy with that. I think that coming out. And also you wanna critics award and it was It premiered at sundance of it. Of course that's what. Kobe was just started but You know that was something that. I'm very proud of as well and so happy. That also did the job she did. Because it's great. She did do a great job. And it really left you wanting more where we i think it like. Definitely that was the start of people remembering about the go those getting the whole ball rolling again where we were more fresh in people's minds you know what i mean and then this coming up in the montauk and there's other things that are cooking that will will reveal themselves in the next couple loved. One of the things that was cooking was a was a new song club zero. So that was. That must've been amazing to in the studio again. We're in all different places. Like charlotte's here in la captain austin blend in bangkok. Jane was in hawaii. And i'm in san francisco like put that together but we did manage to do it. I don't ever do that again. There's not like hanging out. Begs not happening. Yeah i mean the whole idea that everything was going to deteriorate because that is like no looking back. It's easy to say that it was ridiculous but a lot of us thought it was ridiculous at the time. Because i have colonel joseph over my shoulder here one of the lines that from his like if no if you ordered not touch in your marines follow orders. Why was in any danger like. That's the entire premise. Like you you follow orders and you do what you're supposed to do even if you were against it. There's plenty of things morally. That happened at lots before. Against an i would imagine anyone who's ever served. You are going to come across things that you are morally against at some point. But that doesn't matter. I and that's how my viewpoints change whenever i came back from Combat and. i thought you know if i'm going to fight for freedom if that's what we're gonna call this thing. I want people to be as free as possible. I want if you want to marry somebody marry whoever you want to. If you want to act this way or that way do whatever you want to. "At the latest headlines. The united nations is wounded. Afghanistan is at risk of total breakdown if the international community doesn't find a way to keep money flowing into the country afghanistan central bank assets currently frozen overseas and considered key leverage over the new taliban administration. The us president joe biden has announced sweeping newco vid nineteen measures that require workers at large companies to be vaccinated face weekly testing the measures include a vaccine mandate for millions of federal government. Work because it comes as mr biden faces pressure to combat a surge in cases. The canadian prime minister justin trudeau has used key televised election debate to take his main rival aeronautic tool the latest opinion polls suggest mr o. Tools conservative party has a chance of winning this month's federal election which would end six years of liberal rule and plans to enlarge runways at barcelona's el prat airport have been frozen for at least five years. The airport was supposed to receive one point seven billion euros in central government funding to do so but politicians in the national coalition failed to sign off the proposal. You can read. I take it at monaco dot com slash minute and those are the headlines on the globalist seven thirty here in london and it is now a wink. Since japan's prime minister yoshihiko super said he is to stand down as leader of the ruling. Ldp the race to succeed him is already in full swing. Well let's get the latest now for monaco's tokyo bureau chief in asia editor funeral wilson Good to have you with us. Thanks for joining us. Fear with good very good afternoon. Good morning to you. And now has the announcement of sucres departure really sunk in among the japanese yet. I mean it was. It was quick. It wasn't necessarily great surprise but it was a bit of a shock. Actually it was surprised he actually resigned. Honestly that was a shock because on thursday he was saying he was going to stand for re election as leader. If the ldp of course everyone knew this election was going to happen at the end of the month. Trenchant temper no surprise there but it looked like he was gonna run. He was getting all his Pieces in place softening up the right people look like he had and then suddenly on friday. He said no. I'm resigning and it seems that he was really hope by the The big the heavyweights in the party. It was time to go so it was a surprise. It has sankei. And i think there's been a lot of dissection in the media and the candidates are now emerging so who are the front runners in all this well. It looks at the moment. I mean lots of names have been mentioned obviously and anyone who follows japanese politics and you have to follow it closely to know who lost these people are but it looks like it's going to be a three way race basically. You've go tara conner. Who's the front runner. He's the man in charge of vaccines at the moment administrative reform. He's the one most people think he certainly has popular support. He's he's a bit of a loose cannon in some ways. He's very good at disrupting. He's not always good building consensus. I think he's the front runner. You have to mir kishida former foreign minister and sunai takeuchi. Who's the wildcard. I would say former intern faz. Minister earned would be japan's first female prime minister and she is being back rather curiously. I have to say patients up. Who's obviously still very influential. But in every other sense i would say she's an outlier. So what are the chances then. I mean you mentioned the fact that our the minister in charge of the vaccines pushes is very much. A front runner. How evenly balanced is the competition here. Well what happens in this race is that it's split between the local chapters of the policy and the party in the diet. The diet members and they don't always agree. Local parties have their own idea about who should be lead us. That's been quite useful in this election. It's not necessarily just about the horse. Trading within tokyo they have to take into account the the population in the region. And i think that's been pretty good for this discussion and too often you've had insiders and you're not really listening to what's the people outside tokyo and you have to remember the general election coming up. So that's going to be another key factor. And i think it really depends in within tokyo where the factions all these big factions within the l. Dp famously. this is how it's run. Is groups block voting effectively where they gonna fall. We don't yet know for example. Who is so going to support. The prime minister has just resigned. We don't know shigeru sheba. Who's extremely popular within the rural party and In terms of popular support. We don't know where he's putting his support. I think he's under pressure to support. Connor obey over stations by former prime minister very successful prime minister of recent times. He's supporting takeuchi. Will he be able to bring his faction with him. And that's not clear. She's very right wing. She's the most right wing of the candidates. And i think a lot of people outside tokyo field that you need a candidate who will be able to secure the general election victory. They want and in the middle of all this. We still have a pandemic and lockdowns in japan. I know taking back isn't it. But i mean it's interesting. Soka is still saying the reason he resigned because he wanted to concentrate on managing the pandemic. He's not having it that. He was outmaneuvered politically. He say he really knew that he couldn't lift. The state of the -mergency in twenty one prefecture's at the moment in japan. So you've got a massive chunk of the country estate of -mergency and it looks like from Should've sunday but from sunday. It's being extended in nineteen prefectures including tokyo to the end of september. So i think you've got see that that is the backdrop to this one thing so has dog which i think was about boosting public. Morale is talking about the exit strategy. And that's been really important over the last couple of days saying that hopefully and it looks like it will be true that by november everybody who can vaccinated will be vaccinated. And he's starting to lay out how these Quite i mean not particularly tough restrictions but because of the length of the restrictions. It's gone on so long we're all is low. They're going to be starting to roll those back in the altar. Maybe even next month. So that's about serving alcohol in restaurants allowing more people big public events. And i think that's going to be really really important and obviously that would be a lift Just before the election of beer lift for the l. Dp which. I'm sure the opposition will be worried about when it does beg the practice. The question briefly fairness that he would actually want this job now at this point in japan in japan's history. It's such a good question. I mean he would ever want it. Frankly it so. It seems such a difficult job. Doesn't it i think at the moment is a particularly difficult one because of cove a bit of a poison challenged on his. But i think you know when you're talking about tara conner familiar kishida. They've both tried to be leader before. So there's no pretending interested in being leader. They want to be leader. They're very ambitious. The pair of them. I think conan is very canny. He was trying to time it so that he really would win. And it would be a good moment for him and this may not be in the perfect moment. But i think he's fading light. Look time to to seize the moment Kishida you know never gets great press. Honestly people feel a little bit too bland. I think he stood against us saga last year. He's trying again. And i think he's a little band dangerous Becoming a putting in for pizza parents these these elections and never winning. So we know that these to really do what the job i think. Conor particularly he comes from a very strong political family. nepotism still rules in japanese politics. Wilson thank you so much for joining us on the line. That was monaco's tokyo bureau chief. Wilson you're listening to medical twenty four now the designer frederick banner is a danish firm norm architects a specialist in furniture design is also part.

"Me. You didn't hunt. You got our king and hopper pan. Come on i would love to see it and it is. It's not just the talk. It's like showing me that you care and that you are inclusive and then again putting them in you're right. She didn't cast colors so you coffee. That's come here boy. bring my coffee. I do want to point out though the franklin that was like a madman like the conversation got hijacked and it was really about if you believe that. It's a takeuchi. Explain hollywood's utter lack of diversity behind the camera. A that's what you susan. I though i love you love. You could not have nuance conversations. Twitter yeah you gotta say what you mean i otherwise is gonna become unwieldy and also he did point out that like listen in all fairness. It's a short fem. But also he knows what does casting the short film meredith like being the trades. So exact may nobody else has short film as announced in the trades. Mind better be if i make one. And that'll be in the trades. He working long ago. I don't know maybe okay. Keep it hush hush secret secret things. I still love nepotism where. It's deserved like black nepotism. Don't care you think i'm gonna. There's no interviews. All my friends are going to work for me when the time come absolutely black. Nepotism is the future has to be it has to be But i also think there's another interesting thing like the lack of knowledge. We have about if nepotism did play a role. In one of our favorite people's rise. It can still tarnish who they are as a person like we finding out your favorite indie artist has wealthy. Parents can be devastating like trying to hide it. King says now any air. Did she receive any money. Do we know we can't. We can't just that ambiguity from me that makes it so difficult even want and listen to her songs. I'm like then you see the people who you really enjoy. Fucking love jack wade in the boys and then i'm like a his parents. Yeah but i don't think he gets any nepotism except for the fact that dumb wa puts blind items about jack kwaidan every other week. Somebody over there is running iraq. But it's probably not healthy. Young little paola industry. Pretty well i think about someone like jane fonda. Probably not as much as lewis does but think about jane fonda and being the daughter of henry fonda. And if you just forget you don't it's jane fonda doesn't matter at a certain point. I think that like let's say olivia date actually got to go to college that our mother tried to pay for her to go to one weekend in georgia psychology. When she's failing getting kicked out like there's still there's still a difficulty of getting into these places and then establishing yourself and continuing to be talented and sorry to miss olivia. But we know plenty of famous people's kids who are not doing anything or try to get that access and then have flopped. You know not. Everybody's paris hope been plenty of want to be paris. Hilton's plenty of people go for the socialite routes and still make don't make it to the public conscious. I'm sure they made it in the sense that like they're still. They're so wealthy. They're just not in magazine covers. The whole thing is a mess. The whole thing is a mess. I want you to name names. That's how i would like it to get but what name rings things people's kids who are not popping now. You don't have to do that. I don't know rumer willis exactly she's pop in it like she has her fans. Yeah she's great in the house. Bunny she was on affairs or flowers and on a ferris like came from nepotism as well. You know she's dennis farina's daughter. She changed the farina to ferris. I'm kidding you don't have lewis here for these jokes. My right here with me jeff. Bridges admits quite honestly like a mo product of nepotism. That's my best jeff bridges. I'm a product of methodism. How started acting. I'm lloyd bridges. Like he doesn't care. I respect that level of when it comes to your background and nobody's gonna have that. I was homeless and nominee actor story. Just brother todd is also open about it. It's another one you know what. Let me let me cut this.

"Listeners. Know who she is and what she does so hollow america. I am my name's tracey. More and i am a You know if. I was if i was gonna say the simplest definition of who i am. I host a lifestyle show here. So you know it wouldn't really be oprah his oprah's more of a show host. I'm a lifestyle host so a mix between maybe rachel ray. Hdtv because what we show right. Is everything from fitness to cooking to parenting. And i started hosting the show twelve years ago before that was a hard news journalist. That was actually where i was going in life. It was a weird if i got into lifestyle. But it's been the best thing ever. I'm also a mom of two kids. Twelve and ten wants probably about to call me now. Usually calls me on his walk home every day to say how like awkward gross sex education was and i'm like yeah the tell me what you learn. I want to hear it all know a mom and also a very big I guess advocate for most things concerning women particularly black women who are women women who have less access to resources immigrant women and kids. It's always been a very big part of what i do. I'd say starting from high school just activism and trying to help my community get a foothold on a system that does not want us to win But it was always the goal with me going into journalism and so that so last year has been sort of like you know the lid blow no wide open and all of a sudden the world understanding that racism happens and being inserted this on this platform in a place where i could speak to that. So my show has definitely evolved into a place where we have a lot of uncomfortable. Conversations already started down that road. But i think that we are Were were really in a position of being agenda setters now in canada which is great and the show actually airs in the united states we do have viewers at a bunch of different local stations are also on dabble in the united states of ood sitting. Line there. the show's called city line by the way. So that's who. I am fabulous. I like i said i'm not. I would be surprised because they've done so many other things to write that where your faces. I'll elsewhere but Yeah if you don't know now you know so yes we talked about so you know you segue right into it with the fact that like last year. Really your show on kind of i wouldn't say transformed because i mean it's always been evolving but i think it took the direction changed a little loops where you're relying. Okay now. we're going to talk about some stuff. That are a little bit tougher to talk about but that needs to be spoken about so here. We are and one of those things was color. Ism right no so for those of you who are not sure what color ism is give you a very clear definition that is not my definition but one that i found online that i think is very accessible to you okay. So color is is prejudice or discrimination against individuals with darker skin tones and it's not always but typically happens among people of the same racial or ethnic group so i mean i remember when i was in university carried like a. I feel like a heavier name. Which is they used to call it. Pigmentosa crecy which manzi but i think evolved since the make it like more accessible to the world by calling it caller ism or let's iraq sadism. I thought it was. Shave is then. And then i never heard of pigmentation. What is it called. Pigment takeuchi talk three. I've never heard that one. It's more serious. Yes yeah it's like do not you can and not mess around with it with the pigment. Yeah you can't you can't play around with it. You know you know what you know what it is so i mean i feel like we've all seen like we've all had experiences with it. But i'm curious about like you growing up with to jamaican parents right When was the first time that you had any experience or interaction with the color ism. I'd say because my sister has a darker complexion than me. There was all sorts of backward sideways. Things said when we were growing up not even in my house my house. My dad is dark in my mama's light skin and They would not really go down that road in any way shape or form. They didn't talk about good hair. Didn't talk about if anything. My father was always like eating more vitamins. Like why are you so pale. Like if i'm sort of like johnson some like something some seema's for her like life look so it wasn't an i didn't take as like i wasn't insulted by my complexion. Okay but what i found was we were in white spaces. My sister and i and in those spaces people would say things like you two are like night and day. Ha ha ha. The time as a little girl i did not know. I didn't have the language to figure out why it was wrong. But i felt it was wrong like i never left a long. I never thought it was okay. And so as i got older i got to understand and you could see it. You see it at every arm video you every hip hop video me growing up in the nineties knowing that all of the top video girls were let complexion and the music was very colorist. You know they they would be talking describing women and it's like a thick woman light skin and curly hair. It was never heard whenever describing just a black woman yet. It was away some iteration of mixed race. And you get to understand very clearly like this is what is admirable. This is what is desirable. This is what is supposed to be the in thing. I've always understood that. I even understand that. My complexion has opened doors for me. That wind open doors for other people who have had was it were darker shades. Like lois understood that it was a big leap for them to hire me as a host of city line. But could you imagine if i was three shades darker like would i eat him be considered. I don't think so. I always been hyper aware of that. And i've always find it very interesting. That will first of all the light skin dark skin. Things always.

"Wow what a privilege to be here and what a great country we live in is i mean it has been just a really cool thing driving around and getting to meet people all over the country and learning what makes them tick. And it's i'll tell you what it's the same everywhere you go and it doesn't. It doesn't matter doesn't change. I don't care as a mom. My twenty four point of state now. I don't have to sit down and look but everywhere i go. It's the same. It's people just want to live their life and take care of their family and pretty much be left alone and you know i go state to state here in the mask rules. Change state to state and It's amazing the states that have the mask mandates on. Everybody hates them and they're tearing them off in and out of the buildings and they're you know the ones that don't i just see people seem happier. They're able to live their lives and they're able to go about their business. And you know this morning. I had to make a hotel decision and the decision was do i stay in midtown manhattan where i wanted to stay or do i stay somewhere else. And so i got on the the interwebs. And i'm looking. And i i see the midtown manhattan. Hotels are all much less expensive than expected. It'd be. I thought they'd all be more. No and so i started to Book a reservation at one of them and this form pops up the says. If you stay here you're gonna have to fill out a form for andrew cuomo and you're gonna have to give them a bunch information. What are you doing in new york. How long you gonna be here and you know. What's the purpose of your trip. Or did you come from where you go into. And they all of the stuff to book hotel room. And this is what. I've been talking about when i talk about the corporate takeuchi right and the the the idea that they wanna kill small business because the independent hotelier if there are any left could say no to this but the hilton corporation and the sheraton corporation and all these others. They're not going to say no to the governor's mandate and so the corporate taco crecy ends up being the enforcement arm for whatever the government wants to do so we back. I want to give you the set the table for today. We've got some troops in afghanistan. i visited jamestown. We're going to look at how the governor northam has screwed that up because it's a state of virginia park and there's a lot more on the virus and some more on the border stuff all of that coming up in just about one minute when we get back from short break and see that. "Normally. When we think of branding we think about something. That helps differentiate al product from another for people who know what they want. So you know you want a laptop computer. You've got the choice between lenovo brand or an apple. Mac book brand for example. But today when i was out on my walk on the street and not in the park because close my park. I saw an example which i think explains why you be branding things for people that don't understand it because coming towards me on a car. I saw one of those rooftop storage box things. And i'm thinking to myself what they actually call. That was a long walk a couple of hours so your mind starts to wander and you see something like that. You start to think. And so i'm asking myself. What was that thing called. I couldn't actually remember what it was called. And then as i'm having this thought as this cargoes passed. I can see the brand on this thing. Takeuchi aka and it's very well branded along the side and also along the back and so now when i want to go and find out what that thing is instead of just searching for car rooftop storage box thing i'm gonna typing the word taka the brand and so now that brand is cemented him my place. Even though it's not a product that i've really thought about buying and it's not a product that i've really seen very much around and the idea of having your brand on stuff not just for people who know what they want for people that don't is i think something that sometimes escapes us and as if to prove my point about twenty minutes later a naveh compost having another one of these storage boxes and i still can't remember the brand all met box. It wasn't very well branded. Eat some i think it was. J moti 'em or something but it wasn't very clear branding. They really hadn't thought much about the branding for passing by traffic for example and for people who didn't really know the difference between the brand and another so. I think the listening that that i picked up at least was that when you branding things don't just think about branding it for market. Who understand you'll product. Think about you'll branding for those. That don't understand it. Because if i don't understand it and you branded then all of a sudden your brand is the one that i recognize and your brand is the one that i will go back to that. Is it for today. I do thank you time. And i will be back again tomorrow..
