"And so he's obviously he was disappointed because he just he told me when Brad got the president job that everybody, including himself, was like, oh, well, I'm probably going to get my shot now 'cause Brad loves me and we have a great relationship. But Brad didn't give him that because the team didn't. I kept I was hearing that they were probably going to do this. And maybe jabari Parker might account it, but I kept waiting for them to get that end of the bench vet guy. A lot of these teams, it doesn't happen as much anymore. And IT made that point. You don't see it as much anymore, even with the two ways which have to go to younger guys, basically. But I thought the Celtics would get that Donna's haslam, 35 year old, who's been the lead forever. It's funny, IT mentioned Taj Gibson and Derrick Rose, how every word tips goes always gets Taj Gibson. He brings Derek rose now with him everywhere. But like Taj Gibson is that guy Taj Gibson sits at the precipice at the very edge of the rotation, but he's that guy. He's tips this guy. And he was hoping that he could be Brad's guy. It didn't happen. And even 19 said it probably was never going to happen. And it was funny. I remember seeing a comment, I did read one comment, someone called myself a puff piece and all that kind of stuff. And the thing is that I don't think I conveyed in there anywhere that there should be an expectation that IT should get a shot with the team. I basically, what I communicated in the part that I was writing was that the Celtics didn't really do that. You don't have some type and IT thought that he could be that guy. And the thing is, I don't think the Celtics were in the position to have a roster spot that was going to someone that they didn't plan to play at all. At least earlier on, we're trying to figure out everybody one through 13 on the roster could they play. And ironically now, the only play 8 guys at games. So that doesn't happen anymore. So maybe now there's honestly now is the time where there is the room for IT on the roster just as a veteran leader, but there are locker room doesn't even need anything at this point. So you don't really want to bring in that personality anymore. And IT even said, I'm going to be me at this point and thankfully the hornets are wants me to be allowed vocal presence in the locker room. So the Celtics don't really need to as much as they probably love them. They don't need to mess up what they've got going. So they got going is working really well. Really well..

Lakers Fall to Knicks as Turnover Problems Persist

"My goodness they put on a passage clinic tonight in how not to throw a post-entry pass. They threw the ball everywhere but where it needed to go in that was sure frustrating. Yeah, and you know the Knicks they are they are incredible defensive team actually and you know, it's kind of it's it's nice to see Julius Randle playing so well off the same time. You don't like to see him. Obviously, you know, this was the Julius Randle Revenge game. We had kind of made reference to that in a really kind of turned into that. But yeah, as far as the big man Montrezl Harrell Draymond Green were effectively almost neutered and I I mean, I texted one point Rez looked like he was getting abused by Taj Gibson, you know, and you know, they were they just thought I'd like to you know, one point in me if the games to Lance was doing commentary. I don't know if you got that version, but I wouldn't like to see if the Lakers went really small to counteract the what they were doing on the interior, but then right after school and said that actually Frank Vogel decided to bring Casal and so for mantra so they went the the other route blood no matter what we looking at the page. Whole game I'm I personally I know a lot of people might be upset. But I personally am giving the Lakers actually a pass on this one and

"We've got a head coaching change in the nba. The timber wolves have fired head coach. Saunders but i. I had a game to play brian. Sanders was coaching against the guy. He replaced tom sibito of the new york knicks. Having a great season there is game. Went down to the wire. Karl anthony towns had shot in the post to try and take the lead with thirty seconds left over his former teammate. Taj gibson but it rimmed out on a rim in madison square garden. Where the ball. Just capterra women out on sunday and that was ryan saunders. Final quarter as head. Coach of the minnesota timberwolves took over for his late father. Flip saunders in twenty nineteen thirty four year old had a string of injuries to deal with and played many many close games and the timber wolves already have saunders replacement chris finch who was a raptors assistant coach. This season has been given a multi year deal by the minnesota timberwolves to coach them full time. It's a rare move to pluck an assistant from another team. Mid season to take over job just doesn't happen very often. Usually the team that fires a head coach just moves their assistant over for a while at the very least when the full job search can be done until the full job search can be done in the off season but they had been looking at chris finch for a long time in fact he interviewed in twenty nineteen when ryan saunders was eventually given the job and finch like his good friend raptors head coach. Nick nurse coached abroad for a longtime uk. Germany and belgium then moved to the g. league and then was assistant in the nba for a decade. "Of anything from that experience that this group went through. That was galvanizing or sense right away. That something was a moment. Yeah, I would say two things that desk out, you know? We were like, I don't know how many games to go in the season 15 games. Uh, you know, we lost a couple of games You lost at Memphis State lost nights in a row. They beat us. We lose in overtime game in Miami. Everybody's kind of like giving up hope on us. We lose in Philly, then loose to Toronto the next night, And after that he stayed over in Toronto. We had a team meeting and remember this on. I grabbed that guys that said, who still believes in this room? Who's packed their bags and said, All right, let's just ready for next season who still believe that we could make the playoffs and that stretch run even before we got to that Minnesota game showed me we have a team that believed And was willing not to quit and relent and give up, which would have been so easily available at that time. So it wasn't just that lost in Minnesota. It was stepping up prior to that game and giving ourselves a chance to get to that point. And most people counted us out. The second thing, I would say what was most inspiring about that loss in Minnesota. Minnesota had Mortgage their future in essence and got in a lot of vets. Jimmy Butler, Jamal Crawford, Taj Gibson, They were going for it. And what I took away in that game was the two guys that rose to the occasion in that loss where Nicole Yokich, Jamal Murray So the seas were planted the belief the resiliency and those guys stepped up on the biggest moment. You find a lot of outs a lot about people in these moments in Game sevens and elimination games. A man have we passed a character test of what? We've done it time and time again. So I think that season that that result even though it was a disappointing one ownership, front office coaches, we said we've got something special here. Let's stay with this. Let's see this grow. And now now you're starting to see the payoff. Right next we'll go to Harrison Wind, Harrison. Good. Michael. I know we talked a lot about physicality this Siri's and from where you guys were in that aspect in February, when when you lost this team and blood fashion, and your guys kind of came together and had a meeting after games from where you were, then so where you were now and what you were able to do in the fourth corner. What did you just say about that aspect to your team? Yeah, I think for some reason, there was a narrative out there that were soft, soft team. We're a finesse team, and I think there's something up players have taken personally. We had a bad game in layout of the All Star break. It happens. This happened every team in the MBA. But I think when you look at our complete body of work, some that seems that we have beaten. Um I I know that we're not a soft team. I know that our guys are willing to show up and fight and compete like we've done time and time again, so and to me, I think The defense like West on, so I gotta get Weston sell my whole staff for that whole. My whole staff have great staff. I have a bunch of head coaches on my staff. West West unfilled should be a head coach. The Met Humans air defense. I trust West to do his job and our defense in the last three games in phenomenal and toe hold that team to 33 points in the second half. Think last game. I scored 35 in the second half against the highest rated offense in the first round of the playoffs. That's unheard of. So we gave him a game plan. We've made the adjustments players bought in and went out and got the job done. So, um It speaks volumes about that group. All right. We have time for one more here will end with Kyle Goon. Who is there? Kyle? Go ahead. I know you've had a relationship with LeBron for a really long time and you guys played a lot of tight games with Lakers was there. Not that getting to play the Lakers was your goal in this serious, But was there ever a moment when you were playing the Lakers or the hat? Where you thought? Hey, if I have a chance to just match up with these guys Have an opportunity to beat them in the Siri's. Have you thought about that moment? Possibly, obviously, you know As the players so take taking place. You look at what's going on the other Siri's and who's winning? You know, at some point that they're the number one seed. We have three really close games against him. This year, he went down to the wire. In the seating game. We play them to the wall, and I didn't play a bunch of mean guys. But those games mean nothing that they're out The window is gonna be a new new Siri's obviously have the utmost respect for LeBron James had a chance to coach him for five years. Know who he is and what he's about. And I'm sure he was watching every one of our games, taking notes because his intelligence is off the charts, but we're going to celebrate this win tonight. Uh, by no means are we satisfied? But I think you have to celebrate the moments. There's something I learned from our parents. So this is a moment it's my birthday, and we're going to go party. Ryan could stay in the bubble in the boat. That's head coach Michael below with walk off, right, there's 10 for beats L a 104 to 89 to win Game seven and move on. To the Western Conference finals just in historic.

"Saunders bad whole organization I mean they blew the wiggins pick I, mean looking back in hindsight they had draft Joel embiid just waited for him i. what could that team have ultimately been crawl towns terrific player, but I mean it it doesn't feel like it's hyperbole Jeremy to say like this is the future of the organization right here this pick. because. There is so much ambiguity APP atop they have to get this. Right I mean I was thinking about this the other day like who is the worst team in the western conference next year it's probably Minnesota you know based on the level of talent that's above and maybe you can say it's Sacramento, but they're a team that is at least theoretically on the rise. They've gotta hit this. Don't I just wonder what we're going to look back on five years from now and will we say well, should they have taken James Wiseman but didn't because they already had a big man in their front court but you know I I it's just such a big risk to. To not take the best guy available. No matter what that's just the way I see it like they've. Wherever. They identifies the best player in this draft I feel like they've gotta take the best player in this draft. Yeah I agree and I don't think it's wise men. So for me, that's not a conundrum just because I don't like I think wise men will be productive I just I don't think he's like a make or break Guy I mean again from that perspective I think it is Edwards. I think that. The other thing with him is that he does have potential to be a really good defender He doesn't always want to do it and evening you have to hope that you can sort of help him. That becomes part of his identity, right but he he's really really. has really good balance laterally. I got a few times this year and. when he? Wants to get a stop. He's going to get a stop lot of the time and he's big enough to guard wings. They really do need. You know a more of a defensive identity on that team now is he gonNA do on day one probably not but I do like that at forum this if he does come committed Minnesota, there is already sort of a pecking order there, but it's still a young team. So he has time to kind of grow into. you know a role has got who can score it and who can you know get a staff and live in the game You know what it matters can stick him on whoever the best guys, right so. It's tough because things with him or theoretical but the other question is just how much of it is bad feel and how much of it is lack of experience because. He did not play a lot of high level basketball in high school. You went to a small high school I didn't play you Ibl Nike which I think actually is our level of competition relative to some other issue circuits. So you can call picking or whatever, but you know he you re classified right. So we last year could have been as senior high school on. So is this something we have to keep in mind and he he just turned eighteen so I'm it's a situation where I'm willing to look at that as more like a blank slate with Edwards as far as what you can get him to be rather than Mica. Oh. Feel so bad I would never been on that guy that just effective. But I think it makes sense for them. So the warriors are sitting there at number two and eight, it's not revelatory to say that they are willing to deal that pick they are open to hearing..

I understand that a coach is often the scapegoat and Brett Brown had seven years in Philadelphia certainly, not flawless as a head coach. But not sit here and act like the firing of Brett Brown is going to change things for Philadelphia Philadelphia's mistakes are far more deeply rooted Philadelphia had a team last year that maybe was one bounce of the ball from getting to the conference finals. If that Leonard Shot doesn't go win at the end of regulation in game seven, that game goes to overtime and who knows what happens there, and at the sixers win that game today go onto beat Milwaukee did they go on to beat Golden State in the finals? "I don't think there's that type of Guy You know in with ball. You really have to believe in him to take him one but be. In the fit with Russell would be great and also I just I think if you. Let if you just look at the moves of Minnesota, made in the last year since Carson took over You know it's been they've they did a lot to get dressed and then they got when Gottlieb Beasley and noted they've invested a lot trying to get that back fit right you know would having these preclude you from taking Edwards probably not But if you take Lamelo ball and you put him on that team I mean, do you risk you know of setting Russell if you if you upset Russell is that upset Carl towns You guys are such close friends so that you can think what the dynamic there. I don't think this is is at fault. For taking on Britain's Union as the best pick is it's what I would do if I had to pick but again, it's it's the kind of year where no-one really. Really really wanted to have that big but least from Minnesota it's a fairly clear cut decision this from my perspective. Do, you think theoretically I've been watching the blazers play you see two guys that are basically point guards and CJ mccollum Damian Lillard have a lot of success you know playing off each other I mean is it theoretically possible that Lamelo and de? Ngelo Russell could achieve that type of dynamic if they were paired together or are there skill sets just To comparable in the they're not fit to play together. Well I would feel better about it. If lamelo is a better shooter right now. But. so much of his shooting projection is is just based on you think you'll get better because it's Wisey right that's not too like, Fubu that point I can understand why you think you'll get better at cheating but. Just from spacing standpoint you know that's an issue. Russell's not a guy who puts a lot of pressure on the rim know he does more damage than the outside. Play in picket role I. think he'd have a pretty good transition team and Lamelo is big enough. Park them away from the ball defensively because he's guarding the mall. Anyway. But. I. Just think between the fact that Minnesota's already kind of a team that has really struggled defensively. In they're trying to figure out the right combination of guys around towns. I just I just think that you risk a little bit too much overlap as far as what ball in Russell would like to do together. So for me. It's tough. See that working. What is the word on? Lamelo shot mean first of all, what is it with these ball brothers and they're they're shooting strokes Liangelo is actually pretty pure but I mean the two guys that aren't going to be in the NBA together. Lonzo had his difficulties early on. He may change this year with New Orleans and Lamelo the best way I can describe a Jeremy is that.

On everything that's happening in this NBA restart before we get to them though two topics I wanna hit on. Very. quickly. One is how the shooting of Jacob Blake has changed the dynamics in this bubble. Because it really has. Jacob Blake as we know, Wisconsin man shot seven times by police officer as he was involved in an altercation with a couple of them. This is a story that's gained one spread national attention and is certainly caught the attention of players inside the bubbling all I can say about the impact that it's had. Is, that it really feels like it's broken the spirit of many players here in this bubble. A lot of players came into this with reservations about coming down here to central. Florida they wondered and debated the merit of coming to play basketball while the country was on fire, and while the Social Justice Movement was gathering momentum they wondered if them playing basketball was going to serve as some kind of distraction. For people to kind of move off it and not you know continue to focus on these issues that are so important to them and so important to this country and. You know in the aftermath of the Jacob Lake shooting a lot of guys have further questioned. How they felt about that and what they're actually doing you're seeing George Hill say. To, the equivalent of what are we doing here, Fred? Van. Vliet said something similar jalen Brown said something similar. There's been a lot of frustration amongst players. Let me ask that I I know the Knicks Warts. Teams that weren't invited to come down and participate in the restart. How did you? How did you feel about it? Though if the Knicks were invited I would you have felt about it? This being in a bubble and get a chance to play. A amongst the best players and certainly in some weird circumstances to be playing some basketball, I, think a great great thing especially learn and be which teammates is always good. Have you talked to any guys that are down here? not really not really because. I'm I'm really just focused in on China L. my community and do different things but I talked to guys time time. "You know he obviously is making really really good impact in that series. He can at least keep up with physically and. You think actually if there's interesting trend to look at you know based on these bubble games at skies like Dorothy and guys like Gary Trent. WHO HAVE BOUGHT IN Defensively, and yeah, looks like totally different players and didn't college ago Gary Trent never guarded at all high school. He was a guy who got buckets and do. That was weird. Duke team with Bagley. But. Do just Kinda shot threes was there and always impact game beyond that. So you're saying that by in I wonder if that gives you more hope. For if you're looking at wings who have tools that can kinda shoot. Maybe maybe it's helped, Hey, this guy by Zander, he can do this for us too. So you can look at like a tremendous Ramsey. From Texas Tech this year I think is interesting one where you know I don't think the by was really there in his one year in college, but he can shoot it. And it high. School. Really interested by his tools. You know he's a bigger kind off guard. That's type guy who can sort of I could see doing that in a couple years. A trend is just fearless out here. I mean I I'm not. What he's really doing defensively I mean he's kind of guarding Lebron like more nominally given Lebron's playing out of his mind right now. dort in in Oklahoma City. A team that invested in Andre, Roberson, and believed in Andre Roberson. It feels like door is the next Andre Roberson for them. A guy that is extremely raw offensively doesn't have a great perimeter game but gets into you on the defensive end I. Mean He's For A guy, this young to play this. Well, defensively I mean he reminds me a lot of Marcus smart with with the ways playing, and there's there's just a level of skill and physicality when you blend them together I think he's going to be a really good defender for years to come I think Oklahoma City's got something here in Lieu Dort I think so too and you it's not like he's a non shooter player I. Think that this point Roberson is pretty much a non shooter alley store occasionally will hit one to keep you on your still gonNa live and die with it but. He can can't you know thirty two percent of threes whatever I mean. That's pretty pretty solid with what else you bring to the table. Gambling they had the benefit of being able to pair him with other creative guards where he doesn't really after not much. I. Let me finish with this. It's a strange draft process. There was no conference tournaments. There was no NC Double A. Tournament. There are allegedly going to be combines, but maybe they're virtual and I have no idea how any of that's going to work I mean how challenging? Is it going to be for team executives to to figure this out I mean how much more guesswork is going to go into this? Then maybe there has been in years past. Yeah. Well I. Think. You can look at it. A couple of ways. I mean. As far as the combine goes from what I understand, it's going to be all virtual. The they'll try to bring players into like regional sites and do the at least do some measurements do medical testing because teams teams need that for services whether it's like you know having the measurements for analytic models in having you know be able to. See the guys bill of health. That's important. How many of the prospects go to that I don't know..

Gibson. Knicks forward. He is out there doing some things in the Brooklyn community that he wants to talk about I want to get into some of things happening with the Social Justice Movement. Here in the bubble, get his thoughts on everything that's happening in this NBA restart before we get to them though two topics I wanna hit on. Very quickly, one is how the killing of. One is how the shooting of Jacob Blake has changed the dynamics in this bubble. Because it really has. Jacob Blake. As we know, Wisconsin man shot seven times by a police officer as he was involved in an altercation with a couple of them. This is a story that's gained widespread national attention and is certainly caught the attention of players inside the bubbling in all I can say about the impact that it's had. Is that it really feels like it's broken the spirit of many players here in this bubble. A lot of players came into this with reservations about coming down here to central Florida. They wondered and debated the merit of coming to play basketball while the country was on fire, and while the Social Justice Movement was gathering some momentum they wondered if them playing basketball was going to serve as some kind of distraction. For people to move off it and not you know continue to focus on these issues that are so important to them and so important to this country and. You know in the aftermath of the Jacob Blake shooting a lot of these guys have further questioned you know how they felt about that and what they're actually doing you're seeing George Hill say. To the equivalent of what are we doing here? Fred van Vliet said something similar jalen Brown said something similar. There's just been a lot of frustration amongst players..

"Right. And that's what's happening. I remember in two thousand nine Taj. Gibson, we knew Taj Gibson was going to be then be appropriate. Twelve years, just you wanna take Taj Gibson with a lot of you want a solid. Good dude. Who's just going to do the dirty be basically what he's been very useful. But you can't walk away with a lottery picks in this is what we came home with so ideas, a higher pick, the more you're swinging for the fences here at some someone would upside. And then the. Lower you get. Now, you're either taking someone you know, just going to be a solid pro or there's someone who's fallen who has great talent, but also massive red flag. So Kevin porter jR going thirtieth. This is a guy who had top ten talent, but because of all the issues off the court and would have been a problem out in south beach. Exactly. So that's that's why a team was like jump up and get him. But that's where the dice roll is really, well, we use dice, roll, and usually that is the case with NBA tress. But the NBA is kinda special. Yeah. There outliers like Darko where he hit certain measurable that you have to take this guy, and, yeah, they're bus and every sport. But there are no, like undrafted hall of famers in the Basketball Hall. You know, in the Basketball Hall of fame that sport does talent evaluation better than anybody. The really good players. Go really high in that draft. You look at the NFL hall of fame and a six traffic there. Really? No comparison points largely that sport does a phenomenal job with talent. The best undrafted player in, in basket. Ben Wallace comes to mind. Slim has had a nice drafted. These are not, no, Ben Wallace should be hall of be hall of fame. It'd be all and my should be all Famer donnas with a nice career. There's a lot of nice career is like in the conversation. Family right now. This career ended right now is it as good as Raja bells is a good as you, Don. I'm I'm I guess I'm projecting type of player, but my point is largely it's very difficult to have these perennial all-stars fall through the cracks that much unless it was an older and be where European players were sort of devalued because about difficult. It was again, I'm here. No, you're right. Like we say this. If you can play, they'll find you trust me. There's no such thing, as you know, the, the natural was at the movie. Where is Ron dude that, that doesn't happen, our sport and a lot of has to do with, because there's a lot of competitive basketball being played all over the world. So it's it's very hard to hide. The closest thing we had to hiding was really honest 'cause he's playing in second division Greece. And then a year later is in the NBA, which sort of frustrates me as a heat fan because the plan right now is just to tread water compete do as best as we can. And then try to nail one of these mid round mid first round picks when generally you're not gonna get the superstars or league history tells us you get the superstars if you're earlier in the day. Draft. So it's a bit frustrating a mean. Where was Tyler hero from what you said is he a guy that's going to be a tenure pro or is he one day selected the heat just get a guy that was a solid pro or were they going upside there because how high is his actual upside, they're the way they're talking? They sound like this. Upside the what I saw us, he's going to be a good player but nothing right home, which, by the way, you remember Justice window..

"I'm curious about overall, and I'm curious for your opinion on this. And it goes a little bit back to what I was saying about this. You know, it's it's it's the NBA chicken and egg question, you know, are you great because of your players are you players great because of you and. And how does that work? Whether it's talking defense, offense, whatever but defense in particular matters because we have often like fetish is the idea of like the defensive coach if your coach has great defensive schemes and emphasizes defense demands defense, and whatever than you are going to be a great defensive team and the proof of that with Tibbs was that in Chicago that five-year run was characterized mostly by elite defense, and I always thought. Well, okay. That's fine. That's true. But are we giving too little credit to the fact that joke him Noah at that time was not only the perfect guy to be the anchor for Tibbs defensive schemes just as Garnett was in Boston. But no, it was a great defender in his prime when a very versatile and Mobil one. And then you have him and the wall dang, and Taj Gibson, you had guys who could meet those demands and carry out that scheme, and so you know, was too much credit given to Tibbs than and not the players, and are we now the other end of the pendulum here where maybe tips is obviously taking the blame. Name. But maybe it was maybe maybe it was the players in both cases. It's always both. Right. Like, it's always both like if you ever really go bear. That's awesome. You gotta build scheme around Rudy. Go baron. Quin Snyder has been smart about doing that the way they guard corner shooters, and all that, you know, there is a line of thought that there's not a line of thought, it's it's a very popular line of thought that Tibbs was unwilling to evolve, you know, didn't like switching wanted to still overload the floor like he did in Boston. I actually think that wasn't one hundred percent fair to him. Like, I I don't think they played the strong side zone. The same way he did in Boston or Chicago. I think evolved a little bit and towns wasn't ready. Like most young big men aren't to be an elite defensive player. You know? Like what Joel Embiid is doing at his age, given his experience level is like an anomaly, it's completely special. But I think some of that stuff is true in just like he couldn't get these guys to be even an average defensive team. And and part of that is imparted that is the players as always both as a boring answer. But But. it's always both. I think there are like I think we know by now there are like four coaches in the whole league who moved needle who really really moved the needle. And I think we know who those guys are in. There are probably two or three who moved the needle the other way because they're so bad and everyone else is just kinda like at the mercy of their players, and we thought Tibbs is in the first group, and maybe he's in the the middle group..
