Charlie Dives Into Nevada Politics
"Republicans can win Senate races in Nevada. I believe his name was dean Heller recently. Was a senator from Nevada. An Adam laxalt is shocking the world Nevada has all of a sudden become this sleeper race where Democrats are almost beginning to expect a loss in the state of Nevada. So there's a couple things happening in Nevada. Number one, governor sisolak is one of the worst governors in America. He's a Democrat governor. And he has a lot of resentment brewing in Nevada because of how he inappropriately locked down the casino and gaming industry, how he went full Gestapo a lot of people lost their jobs. A lot of people lost their livelihoods, a lot of people never got back to where they were. There is serious financial misery that is all over Clark county. All over Clark county, ollo and Clark county's the biggest county in Nevada. And so the gaming industry in particular was just destroyed by Sicily, which is a massive amount of jobs now, you know, casino gambling might not be your thing. That's not the point. The point is that it's an economic engine and there's so many other things, so many other industries that are supported outside of just not casino gaming. Restaurants, entertainment shows, plays, all sorts of different things. Sporting events, conventions, a lot of stuff happens in Vegas outside of just the stereotypical stuff, which is this, by the way, to very depraved place in certain sense. But so is every American city. And I think there's some wonderful people in Vegas, and I know them, and I have dear Friends there. But they destroy that industry inappropriately unnecessarily. That's number one. Number two, Nevada has seen a significant increase in out of state people coming from California. And a lot of them have been Republicans. A lot of them are not necessarily coming to Nevada just to go vote for Democrats. A lot of that growth has been in the Lake Tahoe area or the Reno area or an especially in the Vegas area, the summit area.
Charlie Welcomes Trump-Endorsed Congressional Candidate Kevin Kiley
"California is very important. We can't take our eyes off California. It's the largest state and it just frustrates me greatly what these cockroaches have done to the beautiful state of California. Joining us now is Kevin kiley. He's running for Congress. He's a great American patriot. And he joins us right now. Kevin, welcome back to the show. Thanks, Charlie. Great to be with you. As always. First, how's your race going? Your race is kind of a bellwether if you can win it. It'll be very good for the country. How's your race gone? That's right. It's going really well. I think we're on track. It's going to be a competitive race. I'm running against someone who has been a full fledged supporter of the Biden and Pelosi agenda. And it's a seat. We've really got to win in order to take the majority in the House. So we're on our way, but it's going to be a battle here because they're throwing everything they can at us. So yeah, what is the composition of the district of which you're running in? It covers about ten different counties in the population center's plaster county, some of the suburbs of Sacramento. It includes Lake Tahoe and actually goes all the way down to Death Valley. So it's a massive disrupt about the size of West Virginia. No, but so is it an R plus three or is it just about an R plus four? It's an R plus four. And are you running up against the Democrat then in your, because it's a goofy system, right? Is it two Republicans? Or is it two? That's me against a Democrat, yes. So it's a crazy system, but it kind of emerged in a normal way this time. Well, based on what you're telling me, then you should be just, you know, you should be great if the trends continue in your district, what are the people really focused on is inflation a big issue, immigration, talk about that. Yeah, I mean, inflation number one, as well as the other problems plaguing our economy like that right now, like the fact that we still can't get people to work to staff small businesses. Certainly immigration is very high on the list. And then public safety as well. And homelessness. We're seeing rising crime rates, the deterioration of our communities all around us. And this is what Gavin Newsom now wants to export to the rest of America.

"Been more favourable on containment but especially in south lake. Tahoe there is still on holding those containment lines. they're also still seeing some pretty meaningful spotting. Which is when members are flying and creating fires off the line and they're worried you know. This is all about the weather. So they're hoping that the weather stays favorable going into this week. Yeah they don't want higher temperatures but what does this mean for. Some residents who are returning we see tweets telling them to make sure you have fuel groceries. Your medicine what. What's the concern there. That's right south. Lake tahoe residents started coming back yesterday. They lifted the man a mandatory evacuation. But it's still. They're still hazard smoke. Smoke blanketing the tahoe region. If anybody's been the lake tahoe basin in it's just there's they've been dealing with bad smoke from more than a month now from both the dixie fire and the kaldor fire. There is still active fire in that area. Some of the hospitals are still closed and again these stores have been closed. They've been evacuated for a week now so there may not have supplies. They may not have food. They may not have gas at the gas station. So people are are if you're they're recommending that if you're in a safe place now with the air is clean you may just wanna stay there a little longer. Yeah we're reading one report. The barton hospital hasn't reopened. Its emergency room so you could just break your ankle and not having any are to go to just a a caution there. How are firefighters. Talk about labor day labor away. What are they doing to contain these fires. So few things one is. They are trying to hold the lines that they've created and then to specifically in lake tahoe. They're focusing on these. These difficult areas and robin are this eight thousand feet elevation. In some cases alpine lakes a lotta granite a lot of rough terrain. It's really difficult to hold these lines. And you know across the state of california. They've got fourteen thousand firefighters working. They're throwing everything they can. At the dixie fire and the kaldor fire i w- been watching the morning update every morning. And you know they're just going around saying here's where we're having some spotting. Here's where we're concerned. Here's where we're seeing some some some some you know even though we favorable weather some concerns about active fire especially in dixie fire. It grew nearly fifteen thousand acres just last night. They're seeing some some some concerning developments with behavior with that fire on the southeastern edge. So this is something that i think the mantras been. Don't turn your back on this. Keep focused and they've been able to achieve some containment but they're still worried about some fire behavior. And we're reading the kaldor dixie fires of the first wildfires on record to cross the sierra nevada mountain range why an put people that must have nerves on edge. Yeah i mean that is pretty remarkable that the just in the past month and a half in california history. We've seen these. Two fires crest the summit of the sierra nevada and what that means really is you know it's going up the western facing side and then somehow you know the spotting of of these embers which in some cases are thrown half a mile a mile are making it over and cresting the summit and then in the kaldor fire was heading into the tahoe basin. There's fire in the basin now inching towards the lake. This is.

Massive Caldor Fire Closes in on Lake Tahoe Area
"Actual speeds are not guaranteed. It's another tense day. In northern california as firefighters struggled to keep the massive kaldor fire from reaching the biggest city on the shore of iconic lake. Tahoe they caught a break. When wins yesterday were not as strong as expected but forecasters are warning. That strong winds are likely well into this evening. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated and the fire has now burned some two hundred thousand acres. Npr's eric westervelt has the latest from south. Lake tahoe fix smoke and ash. Its number over there. And then it's burning there. That way towards taller behind pretty close in a forested area adjacent to cabins and homes. Firefighter steve barnum and a wildfire strikeforce from southern california are scrambling to stamp out spot. Fires these are the dreaded wind blown embers that ignite many fires that can easily grow into new blazes. Bardem is working to contain one. That almost got out of control and it was pretty pretty Pie their thirteen. Fourteen foot flame lakes. And then you get the ember cast off it and it gets grass finding gig on and it goes over the houses. And that's memorial. They're worried about sparks catching the drought-stricken brush and dry pine needles surrounding the homes. Right across the road that can turn this forest fire into a battle to save homes and neighborhoods most of these forests and the tahoe basin have not burned since the nineteen forties. The spot fires are tackling are not mere nuisances. They're really the biggest threat to south lake. Tahoe right now says firefighter jesse alexander because they can overrun control lines and wreak havoc on any well-planned containment strategy and you have a spot fire basically your plan

You see that incredibly steep hillside there? And all of those trees sort of clustered together on fire at the same time, so this fire damaged trees falling over is a huge concern for firefighters. Yeah, you know, that's a great point. You know you're in this firefight. You may even think that you're on the back side of those flames. But one of those trees falls suddenly and Mm hmm. "To california now for the latest on the mass of kaldor fire. That's threatening lake tahoe. Npr's kirk siegler is in the town of south lake tahoe which evacuated yesterday and he's been watching the fire blow across the crest of the sierra nevada mountains and toward densely populated areas around the lake. Kirk i i just want to start with how close you are to the fire at this point In does this look like it's beginning to move towards town. Well everyone up here. Who has left is closed. And that's a very real scenario audie Because of the spotting the numbers are the big part of the story. Right now. Where i've been today down in the village of buyers about a mile or two from the main flank of the fire there was spotting out in front of it and by that it's the embers shooting out and starting new fires out in front of the main flank. Firefighters are chasing these everywhere today. The wind is just awful. You may hear behind me as we talk. And that's making things even more dicey so the worry here in basically everywhere is around the basin. Is that one of these embers you know drifts in catches a pie needle say in a homes rain gutter or up on a roof and then starts jumping from house to house and burning homes and buildings. But just so i'm clear. Has everyone left and evacuated. What's the state of things pretty much so you know. I can't overstate how eerie it feels to be here in south lake. Tahoe right now. It's basically a deserted city. You know apart from the police car that will drive by me. Here or The fire trucks of course. I'm in a abandoned parking lot of a shopping center all the hotels or shut the restaurants or shut the neighborhoods of emptied out for the most part. And if you get the feel that people Are bracing for the worst. There are some sprinklers. Running in the air as Frankly dangerous breathe. I met bob child who is one of a few people who stayed behind to try to save his home. And douse any of these spot. Fires that may land on his property. He's a retired firefighter. He's lived up here in tahoe for fifty years and he told me he's got a generator and well water and a month supply of food. Some of my family thinks. I'm crazy but i tell them i might be crazy but not stupid. I know when to get out but hopefully that won't come to that. And of course people sometimes stay for many different reasons. Not everyone has resourced right. His trial I wanna talk about more populated neighborhoods because if the fire moves in that direction. How does that change the firefighting response. Well it becomes an urban firefight. It changes it completely but this is a pretty familiar scene especially here in california now The good news on that because it's mostly all emptied out You know firefighters can stage in places and get trucks in here much easier than say if it was happening. Wild tahoe is being evacuated. So that's good news This kind of major fire is something people around this basin have been planning for and worried about for years. I've been driving around today. You've got all these neighborhoods in the forests line with those signature. Famous pine trees of lake tahoe. And you do see a lot of homes in motels that are older and some. Don't look to code built out of wood. But i also struck not seeing a lot of brush or a lot of major fuels really on the ground. It's pretty cleared out so all the work they've been doing here is definitely a being put to the test. Plus the other factor is the weather. Right that's right. It is extremely windy and erratic winds and there's a red flag warning. One of those dreaded warnings for extreme fire behavior lasting through tomorrow night. And you know even if we're win the winds die down. You're just not going to be able to put a fire like this out The latest estimates. We got this morning. Were re even just getting containment out By mid october you know audie. Climate change is a real big deal in. These fires are huge. You add into that. Past forest management decisions that left these forests way overgrown and the tahoe basin and all around the west and it's a crisis This fire is gonna burn probably until it snows. That's npr's kirk siegler. Thank you for your reporting. Please stay safe. You're welcome glad to do it..

"South Lake Tahoe. We have 62 out Grove and 61 in Sacramento. Time to check the markets. Let's head over to Cap trust and John Lockwood John. Hey, Good morning. Well, we've got markets lower this morning despite some good economic news. And corporate earnings continue to roll in beating expectations. But we have to remember the markets always looking forward. You know, 6 12 18 months out, and so, you know. Six months ago or beginning of the year. We expected strong corporate earnings and you know that fueled the stock market higher. But now that those earnings are coming to fruition, the market's looking at what's ahead. And so we've got, you know some issues with inflation. There's concerns about the labor market and so causing a little bit of a pause here in terms of the continual rise that we've seen in the market weekly jobless claims lower reaching a new pandemic low they totaled 360. 1000 new claims last week and unemployment Well, the folks who are collecting unemployment fell to 14 million. That's about 50% of what we saw one year ago, and Governor Gavin Newsom extended the eviction moratorium and specifically, the rent relief program was extended and change slightly. So what This means is that tenants and landlords that will be able to file for some relief for their rent and that goes back to April of last year, and it also is forward looking and the change now is that 100% of rent can be paid rather than 80% under the bill last time. Looking at the real time numbers here on the market. The Dow down six points. 9 34,026 S and P also lowered down 11 43 63. The NASDAQ is way in markets the most down about 63 points, or 4/10 of 1% at 5 14,081. Gold off by a dollar. 18 23 announced oil down about 30 cents 70 to 82 a barrel The 10 year bond yield 1.33% And that's John Lockwood. Thank you, John. Okay, so everyone's talking about inflation. This morning. You hear it on the national news. We've been talking about it throughout this morning on the Cape became morning news, but not everyone is concerned about it. Speaking on CNN Senator Bernie Sanders says the sweeping $3.5 trillion infrastructure deal will help address inflation. For those who are feeling pain in their wallets. Well, I am concerned about inflation, among many other things. As I think you know this bill. This 3.5 trillion. And then there's another 600 billion in a so called bipartisan infrastructure bill will pay for itself will be paid for in a variety of ways, but significantly by higher taxes. On the wealthy and large corporations so that should not add to the inflation concerns. But we should we should also be concerned about is that real inflation accounted for wages for many, many workers in this country has not gone up. Almost 50 years, people are paying much more than they can afford for childcare for college for health care, and this legislation begins to address those concerns. Okay, So Bernie Sanders says this. The sweeping 3.5 trillion other infrastructure jail is going to fix everything economists have said. Okay, this is transitory, the inflation that we're seeing. But the prices for goods and services have been rising at a historic rate and CEOs are very concerned about it. They're saying, Look, we're the one setting prices on what the businesses are selling. And and they have direct exposure to inflationary pricing. So they are very concerned about it. So you do have you know folks like Jamie Diamond from JPMorgan Chase? Very concerned about it. And he thinks it's going to be worse than what the Fed thinks. And he doesn't think it's temporary. Just varying perspectives on this. You're hearing it from all parts right and no one I think really has a crystal ball and knows what's going to happen exactly. But it's important to hear these different perspectives because there are a lot of them and a lot of smart people are saying a lot of different things. For sure. Alright, coming up. We'll talk about a prediction for gridlock here in the Sacramento area. It doesn't mean people are going to be getting back to work in school that will top our newscast coming up in a couple minutes. "On the golf course on the eighteenth fairway with the lake in the mountains in in the whole bob ross painting basically as a as a backdrop i mean it's totally different than any other outdoor game that they've ever tried to i guess create. It's got that whole mystery. Alaska feel in st mayor. I think from the nhl officer and other folks have talked about that specifically that movie trying to you know sort of use that as inspiration to create something. I think it's called. I'm i wish there was a way to do it in still have fans or something like that. I know they. They can't i think the fact that it's such a i guess made-for-tv event because of the way that the rink is being built and where it's being built in all that. Maybe that's the one i guess. If if i'm going to knock it or something you know i would say. I wish there was a way to have fans in. Obviously you know this being covid. Nineteen in coronavirus pandemic and all of that that that makes it tough. But i just i think it's cool. I do wanna see you know sort of how it all comes together and just more than anything. Just what it looks like because i think it's just gonna be all about the visual and and more so than any other outdoor game. Yeah i'm curious. I don't think we've discussed this a lot on the podcast because we haven't had a lot of reason to discuss it on the podcast but dangerous. What are your overall feelings on the nhl outdoor games and the whole experience that the league is. I mean really put into overdrive the last fourteen or so years starting with the two thousand and eight winter classic them love them. Because what are your overall thoughts on these things. I guess that's like. I mean i don't love him i mean just because i'm me and i'm going to always find something to grumble about or whatever but no i think they're cool. I sometimes i sometimes. I worry about when you have two points on. The line in standings are so close because of the in parity that the nhl has with these three points on the line every game in everything that you're playing outside in elements with wind and it might be like literally fifteen or twenty below in these guys out rolling around in a might affect things later on in the standings You can't get the best ice in it might get a funky bounce or all sorts of but you know why it's cool it's worth it I i like the winter classic. I think it's the closest thing to the nhl. Having sort of an event in season nba seems to have christmas day. Thanksgiving is the nfl. Even though bowl games seem to dominate new year's day. The nhl has something. They have that winter classic. You know they have these outdoor games. I thought it was cool that they've done like the heritage thing up in canada where they're playing like cfl stadiums. Different things like that. I i i'm all for spreading the game Trying to different things to capture attention in recognition in the media publicity in an all the sorts of things that come with that. So i if it does those things and i know you know ed grainy. Our colleague has talked some folks this week. And it's going to be writing about that sort of the impact you know just growing the game in in what it has an effect when you see on nbc. To see how this kind of for tv event as you put it actually resonates not just league-wide but nationwide and how many people they do get to kind of turn it tune in just to see what lake tahoe looks like because i think at least on the local level these events are you know really fascinating and really interesting and really fun so i was a senior in college at the university of minnesota when there was actually a stadium series game at the gophers football stadium bank. The minnesota wild hosted the chicago blackhawks. The wild blue him out in front of fifty thousand fifty thousand fans and it was really awesome. It was really really cool experience. I didn't actually go to the game. But i was Working on stories around it. I got to take a tour before the game happened and it was really cool and there a lot of excitement around it because i was living on campus at the time and could obviously tell that there was plenty of people. There that were hyped about the game. And so i think it really resonates on that level. I'm not so sure that especially a lot of the the stadium series games that are not you know the marquee event the winter classic resonate on kind of more of a nationwide level where people all across the country are talking about him so i'm fascinated to kind of be no see what the temperature looks like of that for the lake tahoe experience. You know saturday afternoon sunday morning. How many people are talking about it you know are the highlights on espn. Or whatever. But for i think you know.
