"As podcast especially doing literary podcast muted. Yeah that president publisher waging to kinda. Give us money for permitting. Book side and i read something by Just today talking about righteous people of color promoting books on social media. How we don't get that. Yeah there's this expectation that it is automatic because our love of books is enough to an extent emphasis on to an extent that is true. Because that's why we create these entities but then there just seems to be this assumption of well. Yeah you'll do it anyway right. And you're about the people and it's just like pause recognize the capitalism at play. Here exactly right and i don't want to be paid by appropriate. Shook as i draw the have my you know independence. As far as how how i promote certain writer or talk about that books but i think i wouldn't want what happened to the pizza recently. Which is she was being dictated terms. By the publicist in about when to promote what to say how to say it. I would not want to deal. Yeah it's real. It's real annoying specifically i so but can you tell us a little bit about. How does he books podcast. How did that come about is like fubu situation for us by us. Even doing a podcast is just a lot of work. Having talked to mike second tagawa last fall. Winter days are weird right now. He broke down the amount of hours he spent per week on both of his respective podcasts. And it was basically a full-time job. While yeah i mean he's got to so i'm very much an of them well for me. I actually floated the idea of the podcast on twitter in two thousand nineteen. I think it was january. Twenty nineteen gun at that time. I don't think i'd even signed my book contract with leading toward anything. So i was just sitting to find some writers off south asian origin and it was not that easy unless you happen to be published by the big five or you jumping hero. Someone rushdie so..

"More second Yeah so do you see that. Having a solid character is more. i think. Maybe i'd probably bilingual communicate. I would say because a us english and japanese. Yes i through. People is yes i think. Also though you as you said when you're staying true and honest to your voice. That is the best voice that you bring forward. Similarily by being a bilingual translator or coach or model by bringing by being honest and considerate in ormond kind. That is the best way to pursue any care any career right. That that's the best way to move forward in work is by bringing your character upfront. Not by your title. Yeah exactly all right. Thank you for description tobacco. I know that you mentioned about wanting to continue your education. How for listeners. How do you place the importance of education. Even if you're not a formal like a four year degree or something. Oh you're doing voiceover work where you're you're learning on the job right. A lot of that is not necessarily Certificates or degrees butler is education. How do you define the importance of workers I think in japan kiss for education a forest to study but when you become adult so i think education is forever things ask if you want to improve your life so you need to educate yourself always that's life defeating life. Lifelong learning yes. Yeah it's very important fishy as we get. We get older. We have children over. I don't know sort of thing. is there anything else. You'd like to add or or suggest or in some words of encouragement for people who you know maybe lost someone. It's been a tough year or changing their career or looking at education and and maybe discouraged in something they have to do if they haven't passion for something in something that they would like to work in. Do you have any words of encouragement. I think probably in a life is not that long but in terms of a length of the ages. So i think you can live longer in general so i think just always keep positive be positive Just do everything you can. It's important to we always. If there's a problem we tend to focus so much on that problem versus all of the other things that are going well in in nine if we ever wrote lists to list of the bad things in the good things the good things in ever in our lives most always outweigh the few things that are going wrong. So it's thinking positive about these things right or even changing a A bad into something. That's good right. By as my example of the the of my mom you know as hard as you can never replace a parent. I've learned a lot of things about myself. It makes me reflects on all of the things she tried to do for me. And appreciate her and mr moore in. It's unfortunate as you said about your relative who passed sometimes the pain and these experiences they're necessary to allow us to realize these things a little bit more But then we can pass this knowledge on to our children so really. I'm sure it's the same with your the passing of your dad. You can elect on your dad and and just think how loving and caring he was even though it seems so strict and hard at the time. But you wouldn't give it up for anything else mocal. How can people reach you. How can they get in contact with you Just like look it up from google or just hit bilingual. nc also English narration You can find me. 'cause they're blogs yes so right now so i'm working on my website right now so i've been difficult a few times for getting yeah to get used to go there to get visas so but we took the boat across gathered. It's it's very quick in and and japan is such a lovely place. Might my dear wife loves it. She hasn't uncle who lives there there and she loves going there visiting very organized and very clear. Yeah always very much. Marcle last question that i have for you i get. Why do you work. Why do i work That's really good question through work you can expands a lotta things through. People always interacting with people. So i think you can learn something really important lesson always in of course right now. It's kim brush up your skills will to mow quote. Tagawa is appreciate you in your work all the things that you bring to the table in your bilingual services. You're modeling you're coaching. And being a good mom i appreciate you and all that.

"Welcome to why we work with your host. Brian veep as he speaks to people. Like you from all over the world as we together dive deeper into our motivations struggles joys seemingly misteps hopes warnings and advice. Which would be an encouragement to us all to get up. Get going and keep on working working talk but working his now. Here's your host to why we were trying. I'm brian v. And this is why we work today. I have the great pleasure. Speaking with two mocha tagawa. She is a japanese bilingual voice over artist. And i wanna find out how difficult that is. How difficult it is to even speak other languages do your work at them. But also i wanna find out what the connection is between the voice the career and the character inside. Join me today in my conversation with two mocal tagawa umbrella v. and this is why we work today of the great pleasure speaking with toco tagawa. Good morning young lady combining. Thank you for having me. I was just saying that you to the two of us are on the same time zone. So i really most times. I mess it up. So if i said oh good evening and it was really mourning or morning in the evening but i know you and i are on the same time zone because we're not far from one another just across across the water you're in japan and i m in south korea. I thank you for coming on here. And i did a brief introduction to you but could you fill us in a little bit about who you are and what you're doing now okay. So i'm versatile person so i do bilingual emcee for corporate event and also Some international events in also a wedding party and also beside the ideal navigation for international markets. On sometimes i do coaching. Four students or clients and I think hardly do more than right now. In the past what else my mom to twelve the years old son i have right now. Yeah. that's no that's great. I mean you sound like you're busy especially being a mom. That's a full time. Job in itself would cycle you. Would you be able to bring us back. What was your very first job even as a teenager even if it had nothing to do with voice over work. What was the very first thing that in in i know being in korea More asian cultures tend not to have that many jobs as a younger. Maybe wait until. I'm not sure if that's the same with japan as well. But what was your very first thing that you got you out of the house to maybe venture off and do something on your own us. A part time job date teaching a little bit english to kids. How how old were you at the time. I'm doha's around nine teen or twin peers old. So you know. That's i get a lot. I mean in north america. Have some people Selling lemonade right working for parents store. Or something fourteen fifteen. Sixteen so i understand. So when did you begin to study english for you to be able to teach it at nineteen. I think iowa's around maybe seventeen years old of us. Very serious. Do stunning english. Because i read it when i go to overseas to study So mainly psychology. You wanted to study psychology at Because i think i was really into some people's minds around the time be as a teenager so my father's jaw so we have to move to many places and name so i had a lot of difficulties too. You know like a facing to teenager kiss probably meeting new kids. All the time difficulty. Oh so maybe. I didn't have any confidence to confront with the people because i was pretty shy. So that's kind of forced you into studying more Okay so when you started. Did you work for a company or is it just private. How did how did private. It's still being at nine thousand nine hundred seventeen. You're thinking about psychology and you know moving overseas a lot of other. Teenagers are not thinking that far ahead. So after your initial job your first job teaching so this is around high school or nineteen college beginning. I'll ask in around the college. I didn't go to college in japan. 'cause really wanna go to overseas to study. I mentioned seward gio. So i went to a crump school in what i meant like after graduating from high school so the key i guess may ramp yup for entering the college or university students becoming cut his students and so i Apply for two really good Universities in tokyo an aunt. I couldn't getting so that's the beginning of seriously really. Wanted to go to us or uk to study psychology so Studying at chrome school specifically for entering into university. I didn't really enjoy it. It's cramming how much you can really enjoy going to get it. But i was the only child so my dot is kind of trying to convince me to stay in japan Of course right. Of course so. I was trying to just think for one year. Maybe he will keep up. Let you go. State game saw reading kind of conservative in thinking. Agem dad will. Father is usually very conservative. Cheese especially two daughters will my daughter's twelve two days and i. I'm not going to let her go did you. Where did you end up going. Or what did you end up doing. Oh you mean prescribe from the school So one year. I studied in as i told my dad. I said i renew.

I think you correctly picked every game you yourself for an athlete football, soccer, baseball. And now you've taken to keeping stats. On the mortgage bankers, and last week we just we gave out the leaderboard. Yet we did like last week I gave you guys the top five. There was a couple new names in there, and I was proud of him. So I like to reward the best of the best, Like one thing about me and I, This might be a little bit of a slap in the face about myself. "Too long? No, I think that a month would be good because they have the whole month to submit their videos like the deadline to submit your video Let's just say you started in September the deadline to submit your video is the deadline absolute deadline you could start on the 1st, but by the 15th is the last video submission and then all votes are tallied by the 30th. Gotcha. Okay. I'm excited thinking about this. Yeah, exactly. So I mean I think that we've become zoomed out as instructor at times we become instructor doubt, right, you know when we're back and we were teaching in the dojo. We kind of get in the routine in the thick of things and we just get routine doubt we have to be that people are always thinking outside the box we have to come up with new Concepts new ideas and so on and so forth. So always keep our student population engaged, you know, I've always done world-renowned Seminole Woods people that were MMA Champions calmly Frank Shamrock Dan Severn the movie start time off, you know, like I've had Cary tagawa from Mortal Kombat all these people have been in my school just to name a few of the people that I'd have visit and I do these seminars in my school. So, you know, there's no reason why we shouldn't be doing that same energy wage. Of excitement for zoom and and by the way, here's another thing that my one critique getting off the topic on Zoom as well. Just because we're teaching a zoom class simultaneously like we do it we're we're turning to the zoom class and saying do this then I turned in my class. I say do this. All right ready practice and I turn back and watch it and I'm like, hey Billy get that bicycle helmet off, you know, like, you know, get off your couch. I'm going to shut you off if don't listen and then we engage it's not as if we were just zooming where it's 6% focused just on Zoom when we used you but we're also letting them and I'm grabbing my little camera and I'm like going around the room with the camera showing the whole room, you know, so that young people that are home you get to see their buddies, you know. Oh, yeah, and you know, they and they get to see what's going on. And by the way, the majority of the parents are outside in the parking lot watching on Zoom as well. So, yep. They're they're so I'm you know, panning the room to show the kids at home and on zoom and the parents what's going on in class keeping it keeping it exciting and you gotta engage with them have to be there just like my daughter doesn't want a recorded video to teach her how to do fashion. She wants to say hey mrs. Smith what and you know parents do these teachers need to be more interactive tell stories. You need to sit down and do a dojo huddle. Like I do that. don't know if you've done that to me, but I said everyone come on in clothes come to the camera up close and kids would be like right on the camera. Right and I'm like just down I want to tell you a little story and then I'll tell them about history and culture. I do just like I would do in a normal class. The only thing is we're not in the room and we can't.

"Dried lava. Whole village on the other desolate side of Maui. If you go past key. Hey and McKenna the road ends. And it's nothing but dried lava field, which was where the last, you know, volcanic eruption flow went and they call it the kings highway, and it's like a stone made by the lava probably it's a stone trail that goes through it. And it had rock walls were built. Obviously Hawaiian you can tell that kind of structure and then the lava field the flow would go over it and there'd be a hill about as big as a house in you'd have to climb over that. And it kept going. Well, some people told me about a big building that was several miles out there up near red cinder cone that some hippies had dubbed lost city hall. And as you're going out through this field. You can look out into the lava flow in c- doorways walls. And I took a lot of pictures of those and those are in my book, also, and it reminded me if I was watching the San Fernando Valley, and you know, some cataclysm had happened, and I was looking out at what was left. You know of all of these buildings, and I got up real close to some of them and took pictures and finally after a long long. Dangerous and hot hike because it's totally desolate out there, and you can imagine the sun on that dried lava it's just like a furnace, and I saw this big building. And the building itself was obviously Hawaiian Bill because they just you know, stack up the lava. Boulders? I will do you think it was Merle that building? I don't know. But it had to be I would say hundreds of years. Had no roof anymore, but you know, the that's the kind of structures built and then they'd put polls and thatched roofs. Yes. And one old Hawaiian guy told me that when the Hawaiians came to the island from Tahiti, there was a white blond and red haired race living out there that there was a. Village. That's what all these houses were they were pre Hawaiian. Well, I went inside this building and over in the floor in the corner. I noticed a whole, and I could see where somebody had made some torches and their resist rickety ladder that was homemade going down in there. So I had my flashlight, and I went down there and to my complete surprise. There was this cut stone floor and walls looked exactly like what those pillars that. I was talking about before in the jungle on Maui on the complete other side of the island in the rainforest. It was that same structure looked like it had you know, like they were stones that had been mailed and put together by the same people. Yes. It had to be. So I was lucky to climb back out of that. And then lucky to go make a heck to where my van was parked. And when I was on with John B wells a couple heard me talking about this. They were listening to coast to coast. Post and they were vacationing on Maui. And they emailed me and they wanted to go out there. And I said we'll take a lot of water and take hiking boots. Can hats because it's hot. It's you know, there's no foliage out there. Well, long story. Short emailed me back the next day and his wife got heat exhaustion. And and they did you warned them. They went out there. They did photographs some of the same buildings. I had and he said he had to practically carrier back to the car and took her to the hospital to, you know, get some fluids. Enter so it's it's odd the young Hawaiians that I talked to they didn't even know about this all of this structures. It's out there. Their parents don't tell them I talked to some fishermen that'll go out there are ways to a beach, and it's a rock beach. Actually, there's not much sand in fish that. None of them will stay there. After dark pay say, you hear sounds one guy even told me it sounded like babe. Baby's crying. Well, I know the wind going through those, you know, right or cats or something. Yeah. The wind going through those high call themselves Salvador door dally pinnacle, safer, like some kind of weird structures sculptures could, you know, make some odd sounds, but they are completely afraid of it. And they call it the kings burial ground. Let's take some calls here for you. Yeah. Are lining up for your Thomas in LA Hoya to get started. Go ahead. Tom. Thank you for taking my call blessings to your entire audience. Thank you. Wow. Your experiences on mazing mall. I wanted to ask you bring back. Nineteen sixties for me. There was wrong. Nineteen sixties band that had to have had paranormal. Extraterrestrial experiences. And that was the moody blues I knew you were going to say that in Michael tender from the moody blues synthesizer player was a big fan of mine, and I actually played a concert with him on Maui. And I inspired him to write a song. About the pyramids. And ancient ruins it was on one of his solo albums. Tremendous. Yeah. They they really believe that they were influenced by something. And there's an interview somewhere that somebody told me about where I think it's it's Michael and Justin Hayward, and they're talking about they believed that they came to the planet from somewhere else. And that they were inspired to do the music that they did. And they did some pretty tremendous music, and I actually did some recording sessions with Michael in his studio that was then in the hills of Malibu Merle, did you find some artifacts on the other Hawaiian island of? Yes. What did you find? I found a whole building George that was there, and I met Carey Tagawa the Japanese actor that was in Pearl Harbor and a bunch of different movies. He was because I played there for four months at a hotel. He was totally into MU, and he took me and showed me these odd rock formations in Y'all Yali this valley that he believed had something to do with MU. And he told me that this. Hey, Al temple that had some odd rock formation sorta similar to the ones in Maui on the floor that he believed that was from move and the Hawaiians built on top of it just the way they did on. On the one we were just talking about. And that was that was another really interesting, you know, adventure for me and discovery, and they really believe that you know, coli was part of move. Let's go to Karen and Spokane Washington west of the Rockies. Hi, karen. Go ahead. Hi, I'd like to say hi to bulk again. Thanks. Sure. Okay. Age seventeen. I started writing poetry and then at twenty one I sat down to right and music just flowed with every word every word. I wrote nearly knows let's just the most awesome. Saying that still that way I just day. I had a brain aneurysm and two thousand and one. And so that is slowed me down making money. I have like twelve hundred songs. Wow. That I'd written data. And I do the same thing you do it auto Matic writing. I they'll wake me up sometimes at two in the morning, the right. That's happened to me to Karen I'll wake up in the middle of the night. And I've written several songs like that. And there's a song in my head. And I used to keep one of those little small cassette machines next to my bed and sing something or humming. You know into the tape recorder. So when I woke up in the morning, I wouldn't forget it. It would be there. Let's go to Blair camping somewhere out in the desert. Hey player. Go ahead. Thank you, George. Hey girl that song for.

You know of all of these buildings, and I got up real close to some of them and took pictures and finally after a long long dangerous and hot hike because it's totally desolate out there, and you can imagine the sun on that dried lava it's just like a furnace, and I saw this big building. And the building itself was obviously Hawaiian Bill because they just you know, stack up the lava. Boulders will do you think that building? I don't know. But it had to be I would say hundreds of years had no roof anymore, but you know, the that's the kind of structures they built and then they put polls and tach roofs. Yes. And one old Hawaiian guy told me that when the Hawaiians came to the island from Tahiti, there is a white blond and red haired race living out there that there was a village. That's what all these houses were they were pre Hawaiian. Well, I went inside this building and over in the floor in the corner. I noticed a whole, and I could see where somebody had made some torches and their resist. Rickety ladder that was homemade going down in there. So I had my flashlight, and I went down there and to my complete surprise. There was this cut stone floor and walls dip looked exactly like what those pillars that. I was talking about before in the jungle on Maui on the complete other side of the island in the rainforest. It was that same structure, look like, you know, like they were stones that had been mailed and put together by the same people. Yes. It had to be. So I was lucky to climb back out of that. And then lucky to go naked the heck to wear my van was parked. And when I was on with John B wells a couple. Heard me talking about this that we're listening to coast to coast, and they were vacationing on Maui. And they emailed me and they wanted to go out there. And I said we'll take a lot of water and take hiking boots. And hats because it's hot. It's you know, there's no Foley job hair. Well, long story. Short emailed me back the next day and his wife got heat exhaustion. And and they did you warn them. They went out there. They did photographs some of the same buildings. I had and he said he had to practically carrier back to the car and took her to the hospital to, you know, get some fluids. Enter so it's it's odd the young Hawaiians that I talked to they didn't even know about this all of this structures. It's out there. Their parents don't tell them I talked to some fishermen that'll go out there aways to a beach, and it's a rock beach actually, not much sand in fish. But none of them will stay there. After dark pay say, you hear sounds one guy even told me it sounded like babies crying, while I know the wind going through those, you know, right or cats or something. Yeah. The wind going through those high call themselves Salvador or dally pinnacles safer, like some kind of weird structures sculptures could, you know, make some odd sounds, but they are completely afraid of it. And they call it the kings burial ground. Let's take some calls here for you. Yeah. Lining up for your Thomas in LA Hoya to get started. Go ahead. Tom. Thank you for taking my car blessings to you. Liam audience. Thank you. Wow. Your experiences are amazing. Ask you you bring back in nineteen sixties for me. That was nineteen sixties band that had to have had paranormal. Extraterrestrial experiences. And that was the moody blues I knew you were going to say that and Michael tender from the moody blues synthesizer player was a big fan of mine, and I actually played a concert with him on Maui. And I inspired him to write a song. About the pyramids in ancient ruins it was on one of his solo albums. Yeah. They they really believed that they were influenced by something. And there's an interview somewhere that somebody told me about where I think it's it's Michael and Justin Hayward, and they're talking about they believed that they came to the planet and from somewhere else, and that they were inspired to do the music that they did. And they did some pretty tremendous music, and I actually did some recording sessions with Michael in his studio that was then in the hills of Malibu Merle, did you find some artifacts on the other Hawaiian island of Kawai? Yes, what you find. I found a whole building George that was there and I met. Carey Tagawa, the Japanese actor that was in Pearl Harbor and a bunch of different movies. He was 'cause I played there for four months at a hotel. He was totally into MU, and he took me and showed me these odd rock formations in Wylie Ali this valley that he believed had something to do with MU. And he told me that this. Hey, Al temple that had some odd rock formation sorta similar to the ones in Maui on the floor that he believed that was from and the Hawaiians built on top of it just the way they did on the one we were just talking about. And that was that was in the other really. Interesting. Oh adventure for me. And discovery sure. And they really believe that you know, coli was part of move. Let's go to Karen and Spokane Washington west of the Rockies. Hi, karen. Go ahead. Hi, I'd like to say hi to both the yen. Thanks. Sure. Okay. At age seventeen. I started writing poetry and then at twenty one I sat down to write and music just flowed with every word every word. I wrote knows then it was just the most awesome thing. And it's still that way to this day. I had a brain aneurysm and two thousand and one. And so that is slowed me down making money. I have like twelve hundred songs. Wow. Wow. That I'd written data. And I do the same thing you do automatic writing. I they'll wake me up sometimes two in the morning, the right. That's happened to me to Karen I'll wake up in the middle of the night. And I've written several songs like that. And there's a song in my head. And I used to keep one of those little small cassette machines next to my bed and sing something or you know, into the tape recorder. So when I woke up in the morning, I wouldn't forget it. It would be there. Let's go to Blair camping somewhere out in a desert. Hey player. Go ahead. Thank you. George girl. The song for session from.

"They get to keep some of the good stuff that did happen this year their work. Good things that happened on defense. I think that Mike Smith can come in. There do that. He wasn't defensive coordinator at Texas Tech for a couple years before coming to the chiefs. So he's not completely unexperienced at forming a game plan. I'd like to see him get the reins even though it's not necessarily a home run hire. I think the guy that can really do some good things for the chiefs yet. So I picked guy, and I believe Craig did a little bit more research and talked about him on his article coming out but not house defense coordinator in Kentucky right now. And I just got this name at FinnAir. I don't have a real connection for it. There's just there isn't one. I just happened to watch. A lot of Kentucky this year prepared for the draft. And I really loved it. I saw their defense. I thought they were really creative. They have guys have developed well since he's been there. Josh L turned into great top five hundred draft pick underneath him. The senior year they have revealed the senior bowl, and I can't say the Indy of them. Look, absolutely, stellar athletically, but he got him to play great as a unit and the simple fact that he's able to play off of Josh Allen talent with the rest of his team giving free pressure from other guys was just something really intrigued me. So that was a free name. I kinda just pulled out of nowhere. And then one more. This was pitched me a few times Chris Hewitt defensive backs. Coach of the Baltimore Ravens. He was another guy that just kind of popped up. There is someone that makes sense. I don't know if it was under any read, but I do know he has an had an internship with the eagles. He worked other Xiang GAO. Gregg giannotti at Rutgers a little while he's had success in the NFL, and at the college level coaching to get another kind of rain the name pulling out of. Hat without a real connection. But we Walsall the big named guys that have a connection to eighty read or the chiefs of this point in time being late in the process of you're looking outside of might Smith in house. I don't know if you're gonna find a direct correlation between anybody right, and you've heard the name John Tagawa thrown out there. I don't how ton of that ground on John Gano Frendo that he was the defensive coordinator for the chargers for a large stretch of injury centre believe he was here from two thousand twelve in LA for or San Diego's are from two thousand to two thousand sixteen..
