"Is not so easily distracted. I honestly think it depends on what i'm doing So i'd say overall i probably am pretty easily distracted but if i'm working on something that i'm invested are focused on than it's almost like i have two levels. I mean there clicked in. And i'm in like a flow state or i am easily dissect some of the same way i mean i could. I could stay focused on something. I'm interested in for hours and hours and hours but calling an insurance company or knowing. I have to call at insurance company noon. The i'm easily distracted. Save me throw me a lifeline. I don't wanna do this healthy anything that that i often about the people that actually work for insurance companies and then i feel better about my call. It's gotta be always someone worse. Those comes down. I think really it comes down to self discipline. And i think if you wanna be more a i should say you want be less of a procrastinator Understand why you progress any but then realize the bottom line is you've gotta just do it if you if you wanna do it. You've got to find a way to just do it if you want to and sell. I always see self-discipline muscle and anything in life that we reinforce grows so if you want your self discipline to grow You have to hold your feet to the fire and you have to. If you say you're going to make a call at five minutes to ten you've got to make yourself make bad call and a lot of people will be making you into. You can't excuse yourself because every time you excuse yourself you really causing net self discipline muscle to atrophy a bit more and a bit more so just getting started is very important you know. Don't don't think about the nike thing. Just do it. They wouldn't have been successful and they said just think about doing it. So you need to just apply yourself. Just doing self-discipline the agree. I agree but i also think self-discipline can be Can of coexist with self-care as well also even if you sat something to do at a certain time if if for whatever reason there's like a lot of resistance and like we were saying earlier like there might be it might be okay to say okay you know. I'm not in the a the emotional mental physical state to make this caller. Do this thing right now. so i'm going to choose to do it at a time tomorrow. Like rescheduling that thing. I think is okay from time to time because then i think that that's better like to actually commit to another time rather than just keep pushing it off and then there's like a lot of wasted space as you push things off and you're like okay. I'll do ten minutes. Adds it in twenty minutes and then those thirty minutes lined up being wasted where you could just say you know tomorrow. I'll have more time. I'll maybe i'll feel more rested. I could do the same tomorrow and you move it and then you clear up your space. I if you're if you're being honest with yourself. I think you're right because you know it's like mark twain again. Said if you could put off today what you can do the day after tomorrow if if we are easily distracted and you just making another excuse and of course. That's not legitimate. But you're talking about legitimately recognizing that this isn't a good time for me to be doing this. That is on a lake. Let's say it's a beautiful fall day and you have a list of things to do. That are all inside or on the phone or something. Like i think it's totally fair to allow yourself to push those off to the next day when you don't feel as you know like you're missing out on something else and you can go enjoy the cobblestone. Walk down the street Moonstone you're absolutely and and that's why let's let's let's. Let's suggest this that the next time we're doing an arduous task in we're finding ourselves becoming more agitated more anxious. It's okay to say you know this. This is really not typical of may. And i'm struggling too much and that's i think there are times where we have to respect our inclination to procrastinate. Maybe maybe we need a healthy word for procrastination when it's healthy deflection may be the or postponement. But but sometimes you know rather than create stressing anxiety and maybe even panic. We don't have to demand of ourselves that which we are really not at a place to offer so. I think it's important that as you suggest that we we. We looked to let go of things. That that legitimately can be put aside for a better time energy versus rather than the time. It's rex respecting the energy that's available. Yeah and i know for me sometimes. Like especially. If i'm sitting down to do a creative project or i guess even if it's not creative like there are days where i just feel like. I'm in the flow state and the thoughts are clicking. A productivity is not an issue. It's like i could get so much done in an hour's time when i'm in that state and i know what that feels like i don't always know how to access it but it's there on certain days and it's not there on other days so for me. I think allowing myself to be flexible at the demands i put on myself allows me to get a lot more done because with less resistance because on the days where it's like banging my head against a wall to get something finished. I just stop usually unless there's like a deadline. Because i know that there will be a time where it'll go much easier and probably much much better. Too bad results will be a lot of that has to do with consciousness being aware of yourself a not deluding yourself so the healthier you become and the more you're capable of hurting yourself disciplined when those times. Come where you really feel that procrastination and it's legitimate. you know. i think we have to respect. Who and what. We are moment to moment so there are demands. Sometimes that that we can't escape Something that has to be handed handed in network or a deadline and we do need to put our feet to that fire and you know some people. They postponed things to the very last minute. And we're not necessarily talking about that but it is important to realize that you know when we have to do something. It's it's you have to cut down the chatter of negativity. That's just making it worse because we can sit there doing a task like doing the bills. The calling the insurance company and just hating and hating it in hating it we really generating anxiety and duress needlessly. So sometimes it's a matter of yielding to the task rather than resisting man. Yeah thanks. And thanks for agreeing. It's this isn't a procrastination but it seems like an almost hearing voices. You're losing you father. I'm hearing it's our audio today. I don't know if it's going to be picked up or not but it's kind of weird noises in today. That's okay because taddei channeling from the excuse me enough bang. Listen we play this back. His no no option then. Dan voices saying they're sending. Since we love you. "Well i mentioned the fact that bednarz agent and pequot told me that the tame was very interested in a renewal so at some point in the coming months since then obviously we had the long-term new by taddei po gotcha while the he added in a year to what was already a very long-term and lucrative deal and there was some suggestion in belgium that this had sort of had spurred quadra interaction and he was possibly using it as leverage to go to your asking for a payroll for a gumbel not sure some colombians. Who suggested that there was some truth to the story. That wasn't terribly happy with certain things happening in the team and things that had happened at the one to watch definitely. I think it's very interesting. Daniel because i think yeah the char- a context and tressan. He's signed on a six years. I would imagine An estimate would be about five probably five million euros year. He's probably on. I suspect bernales agent as zappia quadra would look at that and think that bernal who is on another two years with any on around three million a year just under i think it was a twelve million euro contract. He signed over five years with a sliding scale of of salary. I'd imagine he looked at that and think that brennan should be on a similar type of deal or not far off and so that that see if he's if he's trying to negotiate a new deal that could be part of the bargain. But what's more interesting. is that in. The very recent past quadrant bills have been very very close and obviously love. The padres writers are any us and you know just the father leaving or well known to have been quite unhappy this year. I mean you remember last year. They wrestled andrea madore out of moesha. He didn't write a single ground. Talk this is A writer who built his career on grandma's he didn't write a single one this year. He's pretty happy. I think even solas left the team for movie star luis. This will this turnaround whereby we start. Who weren't doing any deals with a of suddenly done three or four with him. They even been mentioned in connection. With gonna say i was gonna say this would be the the natural the you know You save billions ray. Who fell out with a quadra. They're now they're not working together again. You know who's to say the the saul could swing back in the favor of movie star and burnell ends up a movie star. The see-saw like this quadra the the pastry chef on one end the big bag of flour on his side just his favor. Well quadra and brill's for some one end and nunes as on the other and they're kind of quadri slides towards whoever. I don't know where. I'm going with this Well that's news roundup but we will. Well it's not the end of the season is it because Pie rebbe is at the weekend. The first women's edition on saturday the men's race on sunday much-awaited. It's been a long long time since we've been able to enjoy powdery by because of the pandemic postponed i will cancel twice and it's got a lot to live up to hasn't it after that world championship road race. And you'll be there lionel. And then you'll be going straight to the women's tour and covering it with lizzie. Banks and rose manley gnarly coverage coming up on the cycling polka. I will indeed well petra shortages permitting. I'm in the uk where there is supply chain issues with the fueled at the moment. I we're just coming to power not for the right which is.

"Just been done yesterday. I think there's there's some stuff still going on but yeah it was fantastic for bass unique. If you're into catchy man appeared to cassie management. You'll be over the moon because you've got all these great young fast guys signed up for the future and if you're to kassy's rivals you probably be shitting yourself. Could he think oh not another one. Well we have but in the end of the competition. And that's that's what it should be and that's what i think. That is the best for the brand perspective. So um yet don't forget that now. All the other manufacturers are following this way they are signing that with the writers so they can decide where to put every senior writer so in that in that in that sense they try to control the market and they tried to get a The fastest writers. And at the moment i think gutty probably has the best group of fast riders. I agree at one hundred percent you know. I think we've spoken about this before to kathy has done the best job with its satellite operations. You know the fact that products essentially the sporting strategy in my opinion the best one. Yeah i mean. I remember a few years ago someone. I don't know if he still doesn't know. But to last taddei bikes gee-gee delaney would be Debriefs with all the teams. Which is you know. Ni's victory. I mean are going to very different dragster tracks. We know. the catchy has gone. Well in the past Misano should have more parts of the conventionally. Shouldn't suit the decathlete. But we've seen again you know. The bank has taken a big step forward. I think part of that is valid Is writing side. We know on various. He does make the different yet but at the same point at the same time. I mean paul chappell. I think it was on saturday. He told leslie and we need to find out what the gut is doing. "The olympic time-trial champion. It was only when i was watching the rice. I realized that the defending champion fabio country. Laura slipped my mind. I know it's five years since rio but that does feel like an awful lot happened in five years fabio konchalovsky feels like he's been retired for absolutely ages and of course he has been retired for a number of years. Now tom demere nanako. Silver medallist that in rio and silver medallist again. After his i guess sabbatical you would call it. The start of the season but rogue lich was while he was a minute in one second quicker than he's trade teammate. to mulan it was an impressive performance. Wasn't never really in doubt. The time checks no. It was a surprise. I think most people we perhaps should have seen it coming because the course by most accounts wars absolutely perfect for lists quite a lot of climbing. I think there were nine hundred meters of climbing over the forty four kilometers. And yeah if you could have designed for rock would have been something resembling the one in tokyo interesting with rock. I mean he started life as a as a professional cyclist and when he had his first sick says he was dismissed by most people as emotionless. Cyborg who really had no charisma. And i think l'equipe keep a couple of years ago. Described him as having the charisma of a fridge. But he's become the king of hearts has navy sort of champion of paphos. The certainly the king of bounce back ability. I'm sure everyone loves that word but he seems to sort of systematically east started to systematically follow great. Hardship will failure or disappointment with great trimbe. That was the case last year when he won the as must on the asia off the question disappointed at the tour and then went onto win the welter and the same this year and he's recruited an awful lot of sympathizers and supporters. And because of that you know that sort of cadence of disappointment followed by great triumph and and then we saw. I think most people would have seen the video clips. The scenes of him returning to guess was young but to louisiana and the reception there for rogue lich and he's certainly been embraced as a real talisman a real hero by the slovenian people and we talked last week. Didn't we a couple of weeks ago. About how the kind of dimensions of the that the scale of the support and the interest in the attention slovenia is something that seems to be working. Favor of taddei purgatory. it's not who invasive. It's not too intense and we also mentioned the fact that raw glitz seems to be. Maybe for the reasons mentioned sort of emotional subtext at his narrative in his career. He seems to be the guy who is more of the national hero more of the national treasurer. I don't know maybe. That's just a subjective misguided impression from afar. But that's what it looks like to me. And i mean many of his first breakthrough results were time-trial. Wins weren't they. I'm thinking particularly of the jira in twenty sixteen when he won the chianti. Tom troy in the writing. I think he's was less slightly less affected by the rain than than some of the others. But i can remember on that day Just because we're always looking for context to the things. Fabian country laura finished fourth on that stage and and i suppose that was you know that was the thing that made us realize that. This was a really impressive performance by rogue lich Say he's also. I think even before that there was a story about the volta alan god way our elgar in two thousand sixteen year when roasted while in the time-trial and thomas didn't know who he was and went along to the limbaugh visa bus to to meet him for himself and find out exactly who he was this slovenian. Who would riddance i. Well yeah he britain well in road stage. I think the day before and Yeah thomas took. The opportunity. Didn't need to go and check him out. I mean Yeah the the obviously was the big breakthrough result for roy glitch and oversee. Since then he's Become a grand tour winner and contender the time trial. Yeah it was. It was a performance that perhaps no expected but the margin of victory. I suppose was what Caught me by surprise. I mean a minute to tom. Moulin and again very difficult to put that into some kind of context because of course moulana of me so much racing this season we've not seen very much him since sees resumed racing. Four to rohan dennis. I mean that says not said enough doesn't it and the fact all three of them will be at number next year perhaps Test of the straight into the the transfer talk about them. A collection of excellent time-trial very strong riders at a doing some small recruiting. It seems without dennis had some significant moment team any off on the move again and on the podium line and we had three different shades of comeback story didn't we with the rogue lich and then do malone that was heartrending story him coming back obviously a few months ago. We didn't know whether he wanted to be a professional cyclist anymore. And he did a bit of soul-searching came back and decided to come back on different terms. I don't know exactly what that's gonna mean for. His future in times of grunter was but and he wants to be a professional cyclist and and then the other one ruined dennis. Who's a guy who has been relatively open about some of the struggles that he's had a bahrain morita. We all remember him. Sort walking out of the total france before time-trial wasn't was he was upset with the his equipment that day and left the tour to france left. Bahrain morita in fact with that on not day and signed for any. Scranton is done very well. There was absolutely vital for them. Winning the talia last year there was a huge a huge contribution. From ron dennis in that so you know in different ways. They were three stories of of riders. Coming back from some adversity in summoning all of their resolve and and bounce back ability bounce back ability. Indeed what about filippo can of the italian rider. Who as i said was a quick out of the blocks but faded to finish fifth. And of course. He's now racing on the track. I mean jiro unbeatable in time trials. And i think he's run of time-trial victories consecutive tantrum. Victories stretch back Season and a half even practice surprising fourth in the italian national championships Just before the tour de france. But i guess would be in a sort of five where he building up to the olympic games. But did it surprise you. The first of all he did both the rotan trial and is in the italian track squad. I mean these days. The conventional wisdom is that it's not very easy at all to spread yourself across such diverse disciplines. And you know get you know. Get medals in into such diverse disciplines. I wonder if we'd seen philip agana. His absolute best he would have been a contender for the top spot certainly for a medal for mental. I mean it's seconds really in the grand scheme of things but not quite. The philip agana is expecting to say. Yeah i i didn't really see. Today was more hilly than people may be realized the big rulers. I mean although they performed really well i think steffen kuehn for example said that he's right almost almost perfectly finished just outside the medal positions. I just don't think that that kind of well as rolling courses it was city them. I suppose we'll have to wait until the end of the team. Proceeds to ready. Judge gone mus preparation and what he got wrong. What right. But i think generally speaking you know you. You mentioned council are winning in thousand sixteen on that to me was a period when the the whole landscape or the whole Competitor realm of international tom. Charlie was not as competitive as now. I always felt as though you know..

Get up and Get back on his bike and spot. Was i've taken people. He never really got to run into the reysen. Not a great couple of days to old duchy's as far as the the cycling events concerned Lonzo because you mentioned yesterday there was some well. A lot of uncertainty in the ranks of the team about time gaps or. He was still down the road. And i see now that there's some debates on social media about whether the pool did or didn't expect it to be a wooden plank points on the causeway. He crashed where he said he was kind of a jump on it and other times i think. In the test event which was lost year the was a plank and on the recons earlier. This week i guess a have been allowed to recourse I don't know whether it was bad then but this seems to be some disagreement over whether it was it wasn't an might have contributed to the crash while he was the only one who went down at that particular point in the rice. Peacock was right behind him and managed to get round. We survey quick reactions We'll talk about the cross country. I didn't a bit of a deep dive into some starts about how astonished races earlier this year and i remember being staggered by the tiny percentage races. "Human dot com slash. The move get your momentous recovery. Mix your pr lotion. And they're gonna throw a massage ball. Champion dot com slash. The move i as i watched taddei pogo pogo chart in these races. I i love it. I love the way he's riding with these love the way he is dominating. I wonder if there's a little personal tension between him and car pause because he he's just giving them the beatdown so while. I love that as i watched it and this is two days in a row yesterday. I was like okay cool today i would. This is what i did. It's just not going to be popular. And you're starting to see that we saw today. And i i was listening. Like sounds like there's some hissen going on the the french public which is most of the people on the side of the road are not gonna like this so that leads to the questions that leave. They just don't support that and it's it's sad because i think it's amazing is best guy in the race but to be popular. There's no doubt baby face Is a killer much much like yourself. Back in the day. And today when i and rick moss made that move into final i mean you you gotta cheer for the guy. He was swinging the hallway. Updike climb Trying to stay on the wheel and they slow for second took off. I'm sure the directors were back in the car screaming yelling. And i think everybody was in shock when they saw batra chasing him down essentially no reason of course to win is a win in the tour de france always a big deal but he's already won two stages he's going onto win. The tour de france could potentially win the time trial as well. I think a lot of the directors and the fans were scratching the head when he went after. Here's the thing once it starts. It's almost impossible to reverse it. You'd have to save a an infant from a burning building on national. Tv like you just can't turn it around. If i'm in as much as i did that stuff you know sort of like to watch it. If i'm as director in the car. I say just sit and let look get fourth point. Did you say. I know who's who's talking right now because You got johan on the line. I might need him to chime in. But did you really say that. I because you've made me scratch my head many times. This is clearly a little bell going off in your head watching it from the outside looking at okay. Well we're at it. We'll we will bring in our special guests of the day johan bruyneel the greatest of all time. I'll say it again the greatest of all time. Who has his show with right after. Ours j b squared but welcome. Johan let me just let me. I woke up early. I get a great night's sleep. I sat down in front of the fireplace. This morning had no noise road out my gratitude list. This is new and so little. Meditating vision board yeah and took a walk in walked outside in the grass barefoot and grounded. No i i look the reason i mean this. I liked this kid and he's he's eps me. I think he's clean. I don't i mean we can go down and break down the performances actually in terms of times with these. Just you don't want any young. He could be facing seven. You keep doing this. And you're gonna be facing a long at the blee i did. It is no fun and it starts with booze and then it goes to they throw piss on you then they spit on you the do all these. I'm serious i wouldn't. It's not worth it. And we did a whole back in the day with lance and a very similar situation. The fan started hating 'em cut it started figuring out ways so gain. The hearts back of the french people started talking in french which we were shown some videos last year. Making some good at times but the whole point of that was to try to get some love back on the side of the road. Because it's important you want to. You want to support of the fans Along the way yeah. How in comparison. So keep in mind. Gotcha are we didn't know he was gonna win until states twenty last year so that was all happened at the end so this is really his first year to be so dominant throughout. How quickly did that. The fans start to turn back in the day well immediately. I mean you know. He did win at the very end last year but the the performance was so exceptional that there are people going on in french. Press and pundits pado mile upon them all and then not normal not normal. So it's a good question for you wanna be in the show you've had a decade separated from are even more of it than a decade from those times. What do you tell them you on. If you're back he's got this thing. Locked up always going to do is stay on his bike. Ride a tricycle in the time trial. He's still wins What are you. What are you telling you on as funny. You mentioned that lands. Because i i heard somebody say that he could win up the west riding a tricycle and and and i told you not to either told you not to win that they but but i mean i you know i mean is this. It's the second time he's going to win the tour as you say last year. Was last minute You know if if i could choose. I'd say clover it win. It's sad in. His case is twenty two years old that you have to think about not winning the race to be popular you know. I'm sure he's going to learn. He's going to start to manage His racist differently yesterday. Forget was yesterday yesterday in here in spent on spanish tv it was miguel in the ryan was co commenting and they were talking about this. They were talking about him just winning the time trials and then miguel indurain has never won a stage in the tour de france wearing the yellow jersey except droughts in he the world over very very executive everybody but at the same time mean miguel was a you know like a diesel engine. I mean he was amazing. Time is But three have that same sort of popped up pogo did. I don't think so and going back to your point yawn. He's he's a kid. He's twenty two years old and i've actually texted me. Sources but my insiders on that team. Like for instance the other day when he was sprinting against carapace and indigo for like thirteenth place. Like wh what in the world going. That's why in the world would you sprint for that. And he goes. I have no idea. These are kids. They can't help themselves. That was his response. Yeah did it help with public opinion when you chose to live in france. There's nothing they're not saying. No you mean like living in france and overlooking the ocean probably to help that much not not too. Many of my neighbors were standing on the road side of tv. Show these guys just drunk. Arthur ashe passed out yet. No no none of my neighbors are there. Now this is my point or the point of one of the points i made is irreversible. And i would i actually george. It's probably worth talking allen piper. I it's just look you've got to admire the kid for just wanting to win and and crush people. I love that now but he going to be around long. This is i tell people. All the time. Cycling is a marathon meets. nascar meets a political race. Absolutely so you gotta just you know what i actually. I'm surprised i'm even saying this. Is is just said that i was like we should lance but no i i i mean it's it's it's gotta show a little. Well you know could this. I think there's something with carpets. I think that little sneaky move yesterday was lame. Think he said okay. I'll get you for that one. He did yesterday. Saddam again today. But at the same time. Is there something against movie star in As well i mean because they're leaving the tour basically empty that and handed of course six plays is still a big deal on the tour de france but being in the pyrenees.

"Lou. This is kate wagner for the cycling. Podcast my final audio diary for the tour of france. While ago i guess in my first diarrhea said that. I didn't think i would hate this by the end of it and to be honest tire. But that's because i haven't slept well lately and that's because there's been something that's making me anxious but i don't feel like going into it here even though it's Related we're entitled to our secrets. Sometimes it's cold and rainy here. The finish in said laurie salon. And what is cold and raining like this. i think about architecture. It's like a habit. I've had since i was in high school especially when i'm listening to minimalist music which i am now in one ear the race in the other I think about modern architecture specifically which looks. it's worse than the rain. it's like it's most austere on welcoming and yet it's most honest. It's flaws exposed to the trickling of water. The patina of exposed eight reminding us that nothing stays modern forever. But i love modern architecture. Best in this condition dishonest condition. The rain makes us remember that. Despite all our technological advances we are still at the mercy of the earth probably makes the writers remember this too. We can't change it. We just kind of like submit to it and it reveals things about us for me and others reveals a certain tenacity because regardless of the weather every day i fall in love with being here still and i say fall in love. Because it's a rational like that. Because even though i'm behind on my deadlines even though i can't get close reliably even. I'm starting to become frayed at the edges that tumultuous stumping in the stomach. For maine's sundays. I can't muster march. That's productive some days. I just want read a book and be taken into someone else's life some days. I just yeah everyday however i want to be in their presence even though it becomes increasingly normal now but not when you think about it. It's the proximity going. I suppose as weird as that may be. I'm chasing something. Some kind of understanding them their condition. What drives them to do this of me to. Maybe there are things that i wanna talk about here. That i probably shouldn't. I won't all at one however now is to go to the walter to do this all over again somewhere else whether i'm successful at this job is dependent whether it can finish the pieces. I promise by the time. I promised them which i knew i can. And if it weren't for all the time in the car. I'd probably be done already and the pieces are about stages that have already happened. Which was difficult to write about as the race keeps going takes you with it. It does that it carries you away from any kind of temporary stability. It captures your heart and smashes it sometimes like mercilessly worsening schoolgirl crush worse than any quotidian adult disappointment. But sometimes it makes you feel like you're soaring above the world. Ragged eagle above a foul field solid cystic. Avoid proper case of main character syndrome. As the kids say self-aware mindful of circumstances. You're traveling which is great when you have a certain kind of ceaseless personality which i do this race is over and that barring tragedy. No one would wish on such a person. Taddei per gotcha has and he sits everyday amused. This the subject of his boy. King feifdom fight for the scraps. The special jerseys stage wins the podium places. The top ten. His job is done still looking back. Some of the winds have been beautiful. Truly maharidge fan. Art van pool l. Asleep cavendish resplendent to name a few there more of course but those are my favorites mortgage because he want when winning in the break was interesting because it's winter always brilliant and impeccably executed because there were tears should and listeners line which always breaks my heart then because it was von to and literally anyone else should have one day because it felt like ventral gone wrong that first week vander pool in the yellow jersey for grandfather later finding a picacho just to show that someone still could but they're more like the different not really opponents as much as analogues their same instincts simply common different packages alpha because everything like a spark at the very beginning because it who believed that every state would spark like that which was nice until it wasn't the sparkles. Turn into a flame cavendish because we all deserve second chances as banal as that sounds. Sometimes i feel like i'm still processing fergus. Week that i haven't really been carried into the present. The race on the television feels like a different one one with fewer consequences for the writers. I become a little close with some of them. But there's always a distance that should be bridge in that distance is one. We all wanna secretly stitched up to mix metaphors a colleague of mine. Said it's fine not were correspondence. This isn't deep throat again. Mixed metaphors every journalist their coast which is sometimes different than the ones that are fonda. Sometimes they're those feels special kinship with get along with better fund herself looking for waiting for because their company is pleasant. We are honored by some are just athletes doing a sport some tatty begajah who exist without us. I miss him in white all. No i keep a diary my newsletter taylor dot net where. I write every once in a while about my experiences here on the tour. There's a bit from the newsletter about mall volunteer. That i'd like to read here. Only i recorded an audio dire injury in the On the mountain and solve this text. A kind of nice accompaniment. It's uproar it's chaos. Everyone is screaming is screaming alleyway. A truck chant like my lungs filled with the words in my brain lacking oxygen commits them to them. Utterly when the peleton arise a few minutes behind i watch them charged up the hill like a band of horses unleashed uncontained organized their faces one of absolute stone cold concentration as they navigate through us. I pick out you go. I in the white jersey blue is tilted up towards the summit. And i shout ally jonas as as it's only polite to cheer for the first running. See part of the spectator wave. I step back for them. Awash with the sounds of back wheels and screaming and horns blaring and then there he is touted begajah jersey inches centimeters goner flash there for a moment unprotected by team managers in the aso's bodyguards. He's in his element. Doing what it is. He's devoted himself to so close touch him so close. I can feel the heat from his body. In the bodies of those around him the move slow enough to comprehend yet inconceivably quickly given the incline. they are gone. This capture is actually cycling. Is this is why being here matters. Why writers go to all this trouble. This is what you can't get home in your kitchen on a laptop screen. This is what makes everything worth at all. The shitty petite deja nair's long transfers an impossible deadlines as long as there's this there's a reason continue because that's how diction works and i'm victim. I'm in its clutches totally. There's still another five days too much not enough. There will be no normal to return to after this for. This is the only normal i want. This is the only life. I desire.

"Movies men in this in this race and in the end almost perfect scenario for this is perhaps controversial but i think part of i think the honest bingoed is kind of built up of the same composition. The same kind of disposition as taddei for gotcha and he's very calm. Very level headed very much an aggressive writer who stays in the wheel of who he needs to stay in the wheel of and so they're probably more comfortable leaving him to do that. Than maybe someone like la chew has sort of a more strategic slash team oriented way of controlling things. It's just kind of interesting to see. Maybe perhaps it's like a generational thing. I think it's more the he doesn't probably feel that he's earned his stripes. I i watched his body language. Finished we'll hear from him. In a moment i. I watched greece near men. Come in and give him an embrace him and say you know great job. And i am the way they i don't think bingo himself has any issue. I i think he is pinching himself. The position that he's in he doesn't feel entitled to deny to clip the wings of var or set koos and like. I say we can look back now on a phenomenally successful day for visceral but they gambled i mean they gone. Donald hugely is is okay. It's fine to have have to writers up the road but set. Seppuku says a guy who could have been a great ally for fingal in the in the yellow jersey. if he's ten minutes up the road and bingo has a puncture earnings. A bite change. That's no good the ten minutes up the road. What would have been the point to have set goose wassenaar and soon cross bike in jersey group helping you. Venus more conventional tactics oppose it is aggressive one for third place in paris. I mean this is not now we think of his mar- are really. I don't think you will vis main goal These days is stage. "This is. Kate wagner should cycling podcast. This is my july six audio diary entry sitting in my hotel here in balance balance. Yeah time has this really annoying. Wave going by noticed like what stage array on again nine. I think so the race might be extraordinary but for me. Every day is kind of similar in the mornings. I lay in bed and whatever hotel or chateau were staying in though now. It's just me alone longer with richard french. Soi on i think of what it is. I have to do who it is. I have to talk to hell. Spend my words plan my day. Some of the writers. I like to talk to some of them. I like to talk to you so much that they lend me a reason for doing any if not all of this and Some of them infuriate me to no end. Some of them are unapproachable. And i fear some of them hate me though. I'm never sure if it's me. Specifically they hate or my ill aka journalists anyways. I have a certain amount work. I had to get done on a given day. Sometimes it's a feature in the middle of the week. Two thousand words sometimes it's a newsletter for driller dot net sometimes it's illustration sometimes. It's this is audio diary cycling podcast etc over. Most of the day spent writing and cars. It's like an hour to the out and then two to three to finish This in the the scenery passes bides like accompanied by the race on or drafts with the cycling podcast music sometimes or idle conversation every once in a while. And seminal in the car. Usually francois will make a phone call. So his phone calls the also. I never make phone calls. Because i told everyone not a part of the race not to call me cova. Almost richard rents watt. Who have been like really great company But not really for so long. Because they i see them. I'll see them. Every day in the nick zone and in the pressroom and be all see them on saturday staying with him on saturday against to that. The days of the tour are actually quite long. Like i get up around. Eight and then sorta lumber around like a moron for an hour daydreaming about things. Connor like my time of planning in reflection like is it earlier. The name breakfast usually croissants. Which i never thought i would get tired of his kind of adult. This evening starring tired of and its driving. Well writing for me. I island lake Right oh bite with panthers which is not. Then it's in our in the mic zone. Shoved like cattle your colleagues on the factory farm with two minutes out fights Every day we all watch with envy is the directors delivered the yellow jersey wearer to the television men and never us. We never see him. We never ask them questions except for the after his presser we never get any time with him whatsoever. He may as well not exist for us. Us being impressed. you know. But i finally observe him. Taddei for gotcha. This occupies actually a decent chunk of one time Especially after the stage when all kind of like linger around the tv pence. Just like a parasite to to just have stand there. Like five feet away for me Yeah after the seven stage. Which i think i did audio diary about this too. I stood there. Him be interviewed by sport and taddei doesn't link to look into the blue gaze at the camera so he decided to conference like stare at me as like something to stare at but head on instead of just like for the full two minutes of the interview and i kinda. We just stared back at him because lake. Yes doesn't attorney me. But at the same time he was actually a leg. I know in my heart of hearts that he's just a kid who probably reads like dumb crap on the internet like the best. The oil expands cars and like bad poppies chicken liver but when he's in debt jersey. He's very much a little king and the whole experience always leaves me rather shaken. You know like as though. I'm in the presence of something far more extraordinary than i am. Cable comprehending much less being and i guess royalty is like that. I suppose you are boy. King no longer boy prints secondly boy king now at this point so yeah writing for living is mostly a an invisible process. It takes place internally honestly. I think about most of the time. Except for when i'm proofreading words just like come into the brain and go out through the fingers like it's natural any other by mechanical process drawing requires technique but writing is conversion rate for the brain. Sucks up time. And somehow one is able to produce words while the racist blaring one's ears tight q. Different languages. I was proofing into the final ten kilometers station day right. After marquette dish further cemented his title is perhaps the greatest of all time. I went back to my little computer. Me my little fingers type out my little words until the press conference which is more of a formality than anything else. Yeah one wonders. If the questions produce there are really for the cyclist to answer or rather than their sort of kind of demonstration of knowledge on behalf of the askar's. And perhaps this is why don't ask any questions at the coastal ince's most of the day spent actually watching the race just like everyone else does on television. Which honestly is still unusual for me. Because i'm used to watching the race at like five in the morning and having the rest of the day afterward to write about watching the race however most of the day at the tour is like i said spent driving and the racist and other few hours or the end of the racist. Another few hours in that is more driving. And then it's dinner and then the day is over and one wonders like did it go. It was spent traversing from one point to another not that much different from the cyclist themselves. Wake everyone wants to know what it's like to be on the tour as a writer and yeah it's nice. It's a lotta work but still. It's not too bad for me. Because i'm writing for print. And my deadlines are not media. My pieces are mostly reflective and can take time to write them whereas like some guys just have to get quotes literally every single day and those closer online by the time most of us get to the pressroom. Somehow i don't know do that. The pressroom always seems to be a sports complex. Often with the You rock climbing stuff. The problem rock line for liability reasons but Yeah on the rest day. There's actually no rest for the press ever. It's not really ready for the writers either because like they actually go train in the morning and then they depressed stuff like basically after one pm to sometimes late late in the evening. Like seven or eight. So don't ask me what happened on the rest day. Because dora's merely to reflect because i was on the phone literally from noon until four and everything that happened before noon involved plotting what to say on the phone to the like six different people. I talked to some of them. Were yeah. I talked to some of them. Were editors at like the magazines on writing for my editor. The resin The maximum running forward. Then i talked to literary agent then. I talked to an editor at a different magazine. That i don't yet right for then. I talked to pro cyclists like for five different ones And the end of the day was over and then i pulled the us up in the transcription software. So yeah i know. This is a very interesting audio diary. Spent really delving into. Yeah this is actually what.

"This is kate wagner for my audio diary for the cycling podcast. It is the end of stage five. I'm standing or i'm sitting on the bed or my hotel which is decorated with a bunch of retro looking things I think it's supposed to be like q. Like an antiques shop or something like that. But there's actually like candy taped on the walls. And i'm not sure if that's can you eat it or i wouldn't eat it but it it does it. Is it just a little bit tempting. It's like candy and jars and stuff. It's like is that for me. No okay so yeah so the time trials really different for us. Yeah we go to the mix zone and to go to the mix senate like eleven thirty and just stand there all day and talk to whoever wanted to come by and that was a good idea Even i'm my feet hurt. I didn't really go into the press. Enter today. But i did get to see. It's fascinating the time. Probably because they come in one by one you can really see them up close and you get a chance to To talk to to serve geise. The weather was bad so they didn't stop for long but get some good good stuff. Yeah it was a crazy time. Trial as we all know from episode of the cycling. Podcast but i tell you what like. It's funny to me. Because i i know ragas pretty well at this point and i didn't see that coming. I didn't see him coming back like that. And does he come back like that. After the injuries just unbelievable and of course we can't forget matthew machu vendor pool staying in yellow amazing beating off tattoo. Gotcha to stay in yellow holding him off amazing and then taddei he's unreal. He's the real deal. The thing that really struck me about him is he like. There's there's a moment in time travel where he liked. Looks back at the camera and gives like this. Really kind of flirtatious. Like seductive smile. It's like you know he's the boy prince and he was in in resplendent form. Today you had to feel bad for stefan kuhn now and he came by and answered some questions that richard head But he's yeah. He'll-he'll looked pretty crushed. Yes so we'll see but it was a different experience even to stand out there in the rain. It wasn't so bad. I was fine standing out there in the rain even though i didn't have an umbrella because i'm just that determined to to to my job so yeah that's my short little audio.
