"San Bernardino, California. Glenn bell locks up his hamburger stand and heads for the crosswalk on the corner of Mount Vernon in 6th. He's 27 and out to make it big in burgers. He wants to rival the popular local drive in run by the McDonald brothers. But while the McDonald's drive cadillacs, he's scraping by and fretting about the competition. Ever since the McDonald's hit the jackpot by turning their carhop drive in into a streamlined self service pit stop, people have been opening hamburger stands all over town. Belle worries that if he can't find a way to stand out. He'll end up a loser in this bun fight. And that's why he's planning to cash in on his obsession with the tacos served in meatloaf cafe. The Mexican restaurant across the street. Belle enters the restaurant. The lunch rush is over in its deserted. The young waitress cleaning the tables looks up at bell. Hi Glenn, want your usual? Yep, taco dorado's Descartes melita, please. The cook emerges from the kitchen. Taco dorado's again, Glenn, come on, you should mix it up. Why would I? You make the best tacos in San Bernardino one day. You gotta tell me how you make them. The cook smiles. So what about today? Come, come, I'll show you. Bail doesn't need to be asked twice. He thinks tacos could be a winning addition to his hamburger stands menu. Especially since more and more of San Bernardino's non Latinos now eat Mexican food. In the kitchen, bell watches as the cook dunks a cornmeal tortilla in oil. All right, well first we soften the tortilla, then fold it in half like this. Add the carne melita, the ground beef. Bell leans closer as the cook spoons meat into the fold of the soft tortilla. He wants to memorize every step. But he's also watching the clock on the wall. Belle nodes, McDonald's success is all about speed. Fast service means more sales and more sales mean bigger profits. Next, the cook pins the two sides of the tortilla together with toothpicks, like it's a club sandwich. Well, the toothpicks are so the taco can keep its shape during frying. The cook lowers the tortilla into the fryer. Bell's mouth waters as the oil bubbles in hisses. After several minutes, the cook retrieves the now crisp and golden taco. He removes the toothpicks, adds shredded lettuce, grated cheese, and salsa, and hands it to bell. And that is how you make a taco. Fell by ten. He closes his eyes and bliss as the warm shell shatters, releasing the hit of peppery beef, the crunch of lettuce, the fatty thrill of melting cheese, and that salts a punch. It's so good, he barely notices the fat dribbling out of the taco and running down his arm. It's good, yeah? Heavenly. But then bell checks the clock. It took ten minutes to make this taco. And that won't work. He could have flipped a dozen burgers in that time. Making tacos the traditional way is too slow for a fast food joint. And that means he's got to re-engineer the taco. 1951, in the bell families small apartment on the west side of San Bernardino. Tempers are flaring. Belle's 22 year old wife, Dorothy sits at the kitchen table, and scowls at her husband. When Glenn when? It's always tomorrow with you. You're always at that hamburger stand. Other wives see their husbands. Why can't you get a 9 to 5 like a normal person? I'm trying to make a better life for you and our baby. Yet, we're still in this crummy apartment in this crummy neighborhood. All our Friends are in the suburbs, but we're stuck here. I'm working on it. Have patience. Come on, I got a plan. Dorothy rolls her eyes. You and your plans. What is it now? Belle frowns. Dorothy never believed he's got what it takes to make it in business. I'm going to serve Mexican food. Tacos. Mexican food? Yeah. I've been experimenting and I know I can make the taco work for speedy service. Best part is no one will copy what I'm doing because they think I'm only doing it because I'm in a Mexican area. That means I can perfect it before anyone copies me. Glenn. No one's going to copy you because it's a stupid idea. White people don't eat Mexican food. I eat it. It's food for immigrants Glen, Americans don't eat that stuff. It's too spicy. I'll turn down the heat. Then even Mexicans won't buy your tacos. The couple glare at each other for a moment. Then, Dorothy turns away. Belle knows she hates his plan. But he no longer cares what she thinks. He's going to make tacos, and that's that. Belle spends months honing his fast food taco. He decides to pre fry the tortillas and keep them warm under a heat lamp. That way, whenever someone wants one, all he needs to do is add the fillings into the prefabricated shells. He makes a wire basket so he can fry 6 tortillas at once. That basket also holds the tortillas open an inch so it's easy to spoon in the fillings. And he repurposes his burger stands chili dog sauce to create a mild salsa. But now, he needs to know what customers will make of his reinvented tacos. December 19 51, the bell's burger stand, San Bernardino. Belle stands at the serving windows, he's feeling nervous. To his right is a new sign advertising his 19 cent tacos. To his left, a pile of golden taco shells, waiting to be eaten. All he needs now are orders. Two Latino men approach the window. Hey, how you doing? What can I get you? The two men glance at the taco sign and smirk. One looks at bell. Belle leans forward, hopefully. Two hot dogs, one with onions, one without. Bell ignores his disappointment. Maybe the next customer will want a taco. Hours pass and the tacos sit ignored. Bell wonders if he should give them away. That way at least he'll know if people like the taste. Then, a green bullet nosed studebaker pulls up. A white man in a pinstripe suit gets out. He approaches the window and looks at the sign. Bell crosses his fingers. Yeah, give me one of them. Bell ignores the mispronunciation. All that matters is he wants one. Belle grabs a taco shell, layers on the ground beef, lettuce and cheese before adding a dollop of chili sauce. He wraps it in waxed paper and hands it to the man. It took just 15 seconds, even faster than a hamburger. The man gives the taco a wary look. Then shrugs opens his mouth and attacks it head on. Belle watches in horror as the man's jaw is clamped down and fatty meat juice squirts out of the back of the taco. It's splatters onto the arm of the man's pinstripe suit and splashes all down his tie. Instinctively, bell opens the cash register to give the man his money back. But then, he hears a dime hit the counter. He looks up. The man's at the window grinning in wiping his hands with a napkin. And the tacos gone. Wow, that was great. Give me another of them

So there definitely is more being invested into the NBA G league. So you want to get those assists up. Well, jerel Christian, who was the first year head coach of the main Celtics, he used to be with the wizards G league affiliate, the capital city go go, something he's implemented here with the main Celtics is they want just they want to not only push the pace, but wants those assists to be up and going into the Las Vegas showcase, which took place last week. The main Celtics led the G league in assists. They led the league in offensive rating, led the league in scoring. So they were doing a lot of great things as it pertains to moving the basketball. They play a very fast brand of basketball. They had the best second best record in the G league going into the showcase at 9 and one. They split their series with Long Island. So it's an unselfish brand of basketball and I really don't say that with a smirk because that's what we're hoping for out of the parent club. It actually is a really fun brand of basketball. They're playing. They play in the small confines of the expo in Portland Maine. But it's a fun brand of basketball. They push the ball, they're unselfish. They're bigs can pass cornet has demonstrated that juwan Morgan, who is a player who played in the bubble as a playoff player in the Utah Denver series a couple of years ago. So they've got some guys here that are on the cusp of being full-time pros, but they considering that league you'd think, oh, well, you're going to just give the ball to the two best players, arguably the two way guys and they're going to get theirs and they're going to get called up and then everyone else just tries to become the next them. That's like the question that we have to ask ourselves. I feel like they really wanted Fred van vliet and he was never going to leave Toronto. So you take the end of lead off the board. What should the Knicks have done this off season? I want it ball. That was the guy I was beating the drum for. I wanted ball. So I said that, I think, in March, April, I know we went for crazy money. 48 is a stiff. He's impossible to watch because if he does not hit and listen, Simmons, you know this, if he doesn't hit threes, what good does he provide? He's an awful defender. He just looks like a fish out of water half the time. And I'm with you, fantasy. Play the kids. I want to see the youngsters on his team point a ton over the next few weeks, but with rose going down for two months, this unwillingness to play Kemba Walker, which is just super weird. I mean, very, very bizarre when you think about it. When these guys get out of protocols, yeah, you should be playing a ton of young players. I don't think the kind of thing is super weird because I watched them for two years of bust, and I thought he was washed when you signed him. I mean, he got crushed last year in any head to head matchup against a good point guard. He can't guard anybody. He doesn't have Lyft. He can't get to the rim. And I think the Knicks fans found that out pretty quickly. Jay jam with you on Lonzo, 'cause I wanted the Celtics to get him too. And who knows if the bulls had some secret deal with him at all start break the last year because it seemed like that went really fast where he was all of a sudden there. But I think one of the ironies of this next season, you look at that basically the Lonzo Derozan combo in Chicago has successful it's been, that's kind of the alternate universe for the Knicks. Yeah. The idea of him being cast as the starting point guard on the New York Knicks which is something we wanted for ten years in New York. It just was two years too late. I was thinking about this because I went to the Celtic sixers game the other night and cancer had to play a ton of minutes, right? And Cantor is one of these guys. You know whatever his name is. I'm sorry. When did that happen? Yeah, a couple weeks ago. My bad Ennis. But he had to play a ton of minutes because all the other centers were out. He's somebody that would get dnps from sometimes. But when you watch him and you're relying on him for 40 minutes, he's not bad, like he's weirdly reliable, and he's been in spots, but then like last night, the calves were put in the Celtics and had to play taco fall. Same reason. And it's like, yeah, he's not terrible. They're like these oddity guys. Isaiah Thomas is like this on the Lakers that if you're really depleted and you're relying on them, they might actually do well. And I think combo fits that category. And 32.4 player option 25 26 for a guy named Julius Randle, who was one of the best 15 players in the league last year. Who now no longer makes threes and has crashed back to what he looked like in New Orleans, which is a 19 and ten guy, not a very good outside shooter, kind of a ball stopper. And I guess the question is did teams figure him out or was last year in aberration? Because it's one or the other. I don't think he's as good as he was last year. You know what I mean? Like, it's last year was like the peak to me of what Julius Randle is going to be as an NBA player and listen to nicks are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place because you want to make your franchise appealing. So when you have a guy who's top 15 and you know, he's on all NBA teams and he's the most improved player. You can make the argument it looks bad if you don't reward a guy like that, but then when you look at some of those contractual numbers over the next couple of years, that is, that is scary, scary stuff, and I don't think we're getting a better version of Julius Randle..
