"That the Detroit News is reporting the lions have made a trade. They have sent a former fourth round draft pick, the tight end Justin, Justin Rogers is reporting. But the lions are sending the former tight end. Michael Roberts to the patriots who are in desperate need of tight end. The lions drafted TJ Hopkinson in the first round. Sign may be the best player in free agency and Jesse James and now they're trading. Michael Robert says a result he finished his lions career. Two years with only thirteen catches Forty-six yards. "I think the reviews I've seen so far maybe for the avengers. It's been good of alliance pick. It's not been so good kind of universally pan. So who's who's coming up next here? They're going to have to picks here. Coming up tonight. Second and third round eleventh in the second round twenty fifth in the third and really if they can justify TJ Hopkinson in the first with someone like, greedy Williams, the LSU cornerback here in the second or maybe Florida's John tailored. Then maybe people would feel a lot more comfortable. But this is a lot of it has to do with Eric Brown and the lions taking him in the first round a few years back. But Bob Quinn made it clear after the pick yesterday. He was not here for that selection. These are two different players. You can't compare the two and he spoke highly about pairing now Hopkinson the tight and not have Iowa Jesse James who they signed free agency to really good tight ends. Probably work a lot of eleven personnel. I mean, a lot of twelve personnel which is one back in two tight ends think. That's something that our offense can can really work through. I think we can be very multiple, you know, we can switch easily to eleven personnel. And you know, have Danny out there with our receivers. And then pick your poison to what tight end you wanna put on the field and lions will officially introduce Hopkinson to the media today that will take place at four o'clock in Allen park. "I like that pick. They are going to trade that pick though. All right. I didn't trade it. You can trade any you know, you want. You can't trade it is too complex Oakland. So this I get I get the surprise pick of the draft. Boy Aaron had the surprise pick of the draft yesterday number four with number four the Oakland Raiders, take rich Gannon out. Like, what's the by the way? What's the surprise pick of the draft? You don't I said this a guarantee you this Redskins are going to surprise people fifteen Daniel Jones would be surprise at for Aaron in our mock yesterday took Rashawn Garrett for said that that's a Jon Gruden kind of pick. Rashawn Gerry it for? Yeah. That's that was his his pick TJ Hopkinson. Wow. That's high. I don't think anybody has had him that high the highest. I've seen Hopkinson was seven to Jacksonville. Well, I got it surprise. It has to they claim. It's a surprise. So if I were to say, Josh Allen, are you surprised? No, no, I'm not. I'm not surprised. So my pick keeps in play this apprise crooked. Chris you're surprise could be what you said before though, they're the ones who move up to number one they shop twenty four or twenty seven. I I would fully fully by that the biggest and one of the first big time supporters of Murray Johnson, would you trade for Derek Carr. If you're the Redskins. You know, I like car, I know you love car. They will. Here's why. Because if they just did. Afford it. Right. You'd have to look at the number. He he just signed that big that deals. What Oakland got eat the Oakland? Gotta eat the guarantee the like like Denver had to eat a bunch of it with keenum. I mean, smaller scale scale, it's yeah. I understand the different. But yet when you trade a player, you eat the seed money it accelerates to all right? Let's just stick with this Murray. One to Zona Bosa to San Francisco Quinton Williams three to the jets TJ Hopkinson you've got going for to Oakland. I've got the fifth pick Tampa Bay takes. Maybe the best defensive player in the strap Devon white from LSU the linebacker. So you are now on the board with the giants. The giants take John Williams. Well. I mean, we still do you wanna take Josh Allen? Yeah. They're gonna take Josh Allen. Okay. But they want John Williams. All right. Josh Allen to the giants. You don't you get time. You don't have to worry about it. Lemming set it it's fine. Let me pull up my list of names here. So. Are you gonna put this out on Twitter like the cooling on mock draft? Okay. Maybe we will I'm with Jacksonville now. And I think Jacksonville in that spot. I don't think Coughlan goes at Oliver. Although God, I mean, adding another impactful defensive player would be would be interesting. TJ Hawkins was probably the target there. They need to protect foles. I think they go Jona Williams, Jacksonville, Jona Williams. Although I've seen a lot of people have John Taylor rated higher than John Williams. But I'm gonna say Jacksonville goes Jona Williams at number seven Detroit on the clock. I like that pick of Joan Williams. So you got Detroit here. You're you've got Detroit here. Yeah. Yes. In our draft. I now have Detroit, right? I mean, they'll take Oliver. Yeah. I think they would probably take Oliver. I mean, unless there there may be some teams that have all our Oliver off their board. There could be teams that have Oliver and Gary off their board. I think Gary's dropping buffalo than on the clock goes John Taylor. This is who I had with you yesterday. They go offense of Lyman John Taylor at number in at number nine. So now number ten Denver..

They know him as a big tough guy that can run around in sweaty and not pass out in a really hot sweaty day. So you're seeing this is essentially a humidity pick by line. The draft is tight end position that really has been revolutionized in the NFL over two years this draft has to that could go in the early first round, according to these mock drafts, I would I was no font in Iowa's TJ Hopkinson both have gone as high as seven and some mock drafts and both expected to be gone. Well, before we reach the picks into twenty s. All right. So I'm just going to a little little love from my home state. Love Iowa were on the air across Iowa Clinton Moines Clinton to be run from although I got married into Moines liver for a long time. Kirk parents is a master at developing NFL talent that was not four or five star guys that were not expected to be that when they entered that program. It's often offense of linemen that's his specialty. But we've seen tight ends come out of there as well. And one of the reasons that's true is because he runs a a pro style offense. So guys get a lot. Time operating like the will the National Football League level lot of its experiences a great coach and developer of talent. "Which is why we go to our first offense lineman off the board. John Taylor guy who probably slots in for a long-term right tackle spot where he played most of his college ball Todd pretty athletic guy, and you know, for the Jaguar avenue quarterback you'd better find a way to protect to on Taylor's. The possibility Alabama's Joan Williams tackle could move inside to guard or even centers possibility. And then I also wouldn't discount the possibility of TJ Hopkinson tight end from from Iowa. He's the most complete tightened in this class. And they could Nick foles could use kind of security blanket of that position. There has minute tight end drafted that high in a really long time. But I wanted to stop for a moment there because. It's the first time we mentioned enough -fensive linemen. There have been very few of them in the conversation. It feels like in the lead up here. So my sense is this is not a euro. We have one of those rock-solid left tackle them out there for fifteen years ago. We've got a bunch of really good players. Drawn Taylor's right tackle, Jona Williams played left, but also played right. And you could move them inside. Cody Ford's right tackle that will probably kick inside the guard. He's the most athletic Andre Dillard from Washington state, but he's still developing, and I think the interior is the best that we've had in several years with windstream Samir the govern. And then the centers Bradbury is going to be a first round pick out of North Carolina State and Eric McCoy. So you're talking about five potential first round picks at garden center alone. Okay. So I slowed us up there. Once again, my go to the Detroit Lions field who do we have? You just mentioned it's been awhile since a tight end went as high as I'm about to take one which is TJ Hopkinson out of Iowa one of two possible. First round picks tight end out of Iowa fills a need for the lines of did sign Jesse James this here in free agency. But they've revamped this offense and Hopkinton probably the best to face tight end can certainly handle his duties as a run blocker dynamic in the past and Goodyear to come out because Jacksonville can take one Detroit critique on buffalo, Denver Cincinnati. And then at number twelve the Green Bay Packers all have needs at the tight end position. I want to keep it moving because I know what's coming number nine in buffalo. Let's move back. We were just talking about the offense of Lyman and Todd mentioned that Joan Williams played some left Acklin complacent, right? Tackle played guard at the pro level, incredibly smart player, steady dependable if you're gonna play for a long time for Nick Sabin. You're going to probably be pro ready in the bills loaded up on infuriate aside from Mitch Morris. The new center they signed from the Kansas City Chiefs. None of the players. They've added is a surefire long-term picture along the offense of line..

"Studio. I don't think I'm locked down over here. See, I don't think. So. Yeah, it is moving. Okay. He careful. Everybody Levi while it's good guy. Great, great attitude. I love the fact that Levi Wallace was he aware of all the great grades from pro football, focus. Yes. Did he seem to care? No. Twitter lead time, but it's amazing how much love he offseason lobby. Got from pro football, focus and several analytic sites, including I don't know who did the redraft was at CBS sports dot com. I believe it was yes, he supports dot com. Redrafted last year's twenty eighteen draft Levi Wallace goes from an undrafted rookie free agent from Alabama to a first round pick. That's crazy. But that's that's the impact he made in seven starts. And as I already talked about it was the amazing game. That sorta I mean the attorneys and around with six wins. I don't know. But certainly things changed in the visit to the jets in November. And he got the start there as did Matt Barkley and several others. Yeah. I to have him come in. And let's face it. He came in the second half of the season on a defense that was top five in the league. And they didn't have any drop off. Right. Yeah. That's tough to do at that spot you, and you know, that he was going to get some opportunities to get picked on with today's white on the other side. With the two safeties and the game. Jordan, poor your mica hide who are establishing Pro Bowl kind of caliber all pro caliber guys who go at Levi Wallace is your next suspect. Right. He's going to be the guy that you're going to try and get a matchup with and throw it and he held up and good for him that he's one of the top handful of Cornerbacks overall in the league last year and his total grade, and it was, and that's that's guys looking at film breaking down the nuts and bolts of a defense and and seeing the guy perform well. Good for him. Thanks. Thanks for coming in our Twitter poll today, just three days away from round one of the draft. We're asking you to predict you're not who you want. But who do you predict the bills field? They must have in the first round on Thursday night. Who do you think the bills just love that? They're thinking man, we gotta get this guy Thursday night. Who is it? We offer a couple of choices on Twitter who who is the one player the bills field. They must have in the first round thirty three percent of you say the defensive tackle at Oliver. Thirty one percent. Have you say the tight end TJ Hopkinson Twenty-eight percent say that you don't think that they are locked into one player eight percents wide receiver decay Metcalf. More than fifteen hundred votes in Steve come on. That's pretty close. You're you're the arbiter of excellent excellent Twitter poll, I will take credit for this. And look how close it is. They're looking for something other than decay Metcalf. I guess too. But I like the fact too that that not locked into one player that is a strong strategy. That's not quite up there with that Oliver and TJ Hopkinson Hopkinson is a is an intriguing prospect. But here's the problem. Neither Ed Oliver North TJ Hopkinson. May deserve a top ten overall pick in this draft. You may be getting a guy who's going to be a good player, but not a top ten overall player. And that they and I may be splitting hairs maybe Hawkins is a top twenty player top thirty player in the NFL draft and same thing with at all of her. But they're not a top ten player. That's why everybody thinks you know, a lot of teams up in the top of the draft on a trade down. But if you're gonna get a guy, I think either one of those guys at Oliver or TJ Hawkin is going to be a contributor. I don't know if they're going to be all pro in their first or second year third year. But I do know that they'll contribute to this team. If that's what you're looking for from the number nine, I think you'll get it. I I think the same thing about decay Metcalf. They'll give him some things he can do. Well, he'll be able to get out there and get his feet wet. I don't know that he'll be as good as Hawkin or as good as Oliver at their positions. But certainly he's not going to be a guy. That's. Embarrassment is a drought. You'll be a bust. You know what I mean? I think but. The trick for the draft is to get a guy at a pick that is lower than what he's actually worth right? That's the thing. And I think that number nine I don't know that there's guys out there giving after the top handful of guys that are going to be worth the number nine overall pay call here drew in Columbus, Ohio. Hello, drew. Welcome to the show. Thank you. Go ahead. At first I was thinking, maybe no. Because I was thinking, you know, we we pretty much have the guy who just got that. God we pretty but the big guy thinking, maybe we get the my big in the middle. No. That can separate, you know. And then we got me. Mackenzie and in with name John Brown. Because I was thinking you put if you put it down Brown and Foucault on outside we'll need. No number one this work by convict, right? We just get somebody hit. We get players that could just open. You're not feel islands. Could get them the ball around. He is his completion percentage will go up as that that is with. But I feel for the most part we have to if this there we have to get somebody deepest. At the time because at least create a four game that we lost. We would have won. If we would stop the run. All right. Thanks. Thanks to answer. We're looking for answers to our Twitter poll, we want you to predict the one player. The bills wanna come away with Thursday night on the tweet sheet. Aren bills fan tweets in other. Myron Murphy, cornerback Washington the opposite of trae. We need lockdown corners that will allow the pass rush to get to the quarterback thinking of a quarterback we face twice a year who gets rid of the ball faster than anyone else shutdown where he can go with the ball and let us take him down. Byron Murphy says highly regarded, I think a lot of good things from from our guest a minute ago to write from Sam Monson about Byron Murphy, right? And I don't here's the thing. And again, we're I'm getting kind of caught up in what you read. What you see? I have not seen. Byron Murphy mentioned is the top ten pick berry often in this draft run-up, Steve you know, what? I mean might be able to get him at forty. Yeah. Well, twenty five thirty yet. I have not seen mentioned anywhere really is a top ten pick. It looks like a good fit for the buff. Defense looks like a really good salad player. But you want him. You wanna use a nine on him? Maybe not. See the bills have a first rounder a second round or third round her then to force two fifths. And that's where the bulk of their draft is and. Who is going to be available is is the critical question. And how far these guys drop some of these names here, you see the the rankings of the top cornerback prospects. They go from greedy Williams, who's ranked twenty fifth over all the way down to Joe want. Jo-john Joe Juan Williams from Vanderbilt at seventy four. So you're going to have ten guys there between the twenty fifth ranked player and the seventy four ranked player that are cornerback prospects that you can pick is some of those guys who may be lower down that from sixty three on down may be a better fit for the scheme than the guys at twenty five twenty six and thirty all of those guys. So that's up to the coaches to decide and and the scouts to decide. But don't think that they don't believe they're going to get one of those guys with one of their fourth rounders or fifth round picks because there are bunch of them and scheme is really important. I agree with Sam Munson. From pro football focus scheme is really key for these DB's. And where they fit on the tweet sheet from Ronnie, and when we asked a question, we want you to predict the one player the bills need the bills wanna come away with Thursday night. Ronnie answers from all I've read heard and the comparisons to Witton and gronk I'm sold at Hopkinson is the safest pick and can have a great impact on the team right now. Yep. Okay. Well, that's why we put them on there. I know a lot of bills fans we've heard from believe, I don't know about safest. But believe he is maybe greatness in him Hopkinson. I mean, basically that was the take from Greg Cosell on Friday. Right, right. He compared him to grop. Yeah. And I think well, he did he was hesitant to do it. He said that's a type of guy is he's going to be on the field. All the time is what he meant by that. He can play first second and third down play extremely well. And I think I mentioned this as well. There's about three or four guys in this draft that we've talked about in the last few weeks. The bills are going to have very little explaining to do when they pick Ed Oliver. Okay. Hey, that's the guy. Get it. TJ Hawkins on. Yeah. Okay. He's the guy or decay Metcalf. Okay. I see it all of these guys. Anybody of the one's up above Montas, sweat Quinton Williams, Nick Bosa all of these guys Josh Allen, the the edge rusher. All of these guys are very easy picks to rationalize for for the bills organiser. Nation and the fans, and I think the biggest surprise can be which one of those guys they get because there's going to be a good player there. Yeah. Can't wait Thursday night. We'll hear on the radio Thursday at eight with draft coverage come back one hour and Eric moulds first round pick of the bills back in nineteen Ninety-six. Eric is going to be live on the line with us when we return come on back. One bills live Jon Murphy was Steve Tasker from one bills drive. This is Buffalo Bills.

Joining us from draft analyst dot com and the draft analyst podcast, and he brought up some nuggets about the bills on his most recent podcast. Tony it's Howard and Jeremy good morning. How you doing today? Okay. Thanks for having me. So Tony you're thinking, you're you're saying the three guy it's a three man race for the bills. I pick. That's the way. That's the feeling. I'm getting at this point to me, either Andrei Dillard to left tackle, John. Williams of Alabama who left tackle or it Oliver. If he slide down I can't get a grip on how much they like TJ Hopkinson. Highest rated tight end. Do I think, you know, fit a need? I just don't know at this point in time how they feel about him on their draft board. That's the feeling I'm getting I mean, all all three of those guys was still a needle feels guys are terrific players, especially the, you know, the offense of live and you bring a Josh Allen last year. You gotta protect a young quarterback all things being equal. If those three guys around the board who do you think is the best of the group? Oh, Adele, no doubt about it. I mean, I think that overseeing some wild swings thought he was ridiculously overrated going into the season last year. What people thought he was be pick of a draft. And then for some reason all of a sudden people have been the bottom around one, which I thought was equally ridiculous. But I think when you get into that area eight nine ten spot each good value. He's terrific player. He's got a good amount of upside, you can do a lot of different things with them. He does have some liability. He's not a big strong guy. But I think he's a three down player if you use them properly and the to lineman now, again, let's say it's one of those two guys. Let's so they want to bolster the offensive line even more for Josh Allen. Do you have a preference one over the other? I like Andrei Gillard better because by think he's more of a pure left tackle at I think left tackles rated R rated much higher. I'm not sure that you wanna Williams can play left tackle the next level. I think he's better off a guard or center, but there are some teams that I'm told like the. Bills and the New York Jets who feel Joan Williams can play left tackle in the NFL. You know, you mentioned Hopkinson, but in your podcast, you do bring up a tight end for the bills. But after round one drew sample, right? Yeah. He he's he's a from Washington. He's more of a traditional, you know, Hopkinson. It is more the down the field. You know, go Bertil stretch to seem type guy where Jewish samples more of your traditional three down tight end. He's not as fast as Hopkinton, although he can get into intermediate field. He is a very good reliable pass catcher. But he's an outstanding blocker. So where Hopkinson may be a liability on third to where you want your tied into block. It's not because of lack of effort just doesn't have the strength or size. This point you sample can be dominant block on third and to the short yardage ago line situation. So, you know, he's more of a throwback which is why he's gonna go to its rounds later than Hopkinton. He doesn't have that speed. He's not, you know, a tight end up plays a game like a possession machine as we see the NFL. These days still a very tight, and he's a lot like Jesse James. And I know the buffalo as I said in the podcast the bills made a big run at Jesse James. The the free agent tight end from Pittsburgh who went to Detroit. The offer him a significant contract James has decided he wanted to play Detroit. So sample James have similar type games. We are with Tony Pauline on our west her hotline again, it's draft analyst dot com if you'd like to go to his site Hopkinson and fan if you had to compare and contrast, the two Iowa guys, what would you say about them, and what kind of separation do you think is is between them on the board so to speak. I think fans is the better athlete. Hopkinson is a much better football player vantage faster, he tested better to combine. He looks better in shorts and a T shirt. But on the field Hopkinson outplayed fans almost weekly last season at at Iwa any show much more progress in his game on the field. I think fans probably a hockey is probably gonna be top fourteen pig top fifteen picks. I think sandwich ended up bottom. Owed around one. The I don't know that the bills would go with wide receiver with their first pick. But they have had three other guys in for pre draft visits AJ Brown decay Metcalf in and kill Harry, who would you prefer out of that bunch. And why in the in the first round, none of say. Second round. If all those guys are available in the bills are picking one of them. I like AJ Brown. I think you know, he kinda lost out in the the pre process to decay Metcalf because Metcalf ran really fast in a straight line and jump really high. But when you're looking at a pure receiver guy who runs routes guy who catches the ball. Well, got who catches the ball fundamentally well with his hands? I like AJ Brown better. I do like Mikhael, Harry, you know, but I do like Brown a little bit better the thing with Mickey K Metcalf is just I don't think he's going to be there in the second round. In fact, I put my put a lot of money on. He's not going to be there in the second round for the bills. You know, he's a big fast guy at any one fast in a straight line, and he gets downfield and he jumps over people. He catches the ball. But he's not a good receiver. You know? He's a great athlete. Who's got a lot of upside? But he'll he's also got a big bus potential. He doesn't run good routes doesn't catch the ball. Very, well, even if you watch the Combi workout Belva, catching passes drop passes. If you watch the film, he doesn't seem to know where he is field each one out of bounds on certain routes. So he needs a lot of work. Now if you hit on him, you got you hit a grad slammed. But if you don't you're going to be continually disappointed, one of the other things you were talking about in your podcast was the jets a lot of stories out of New York that they're really they really wanna trade out of three and get more picks what kind of activity trade activity. Do you think we will see a head of bills? The bills at nine in that top eight. I think you'll see some quarterbacks. I think, you know, first of all you gotta look at see what San Francisco does. I do believe San Francisco's going to look to trade down. They're going to work the phones they're going to wait until the very last minute Jefferson. Cisco did a good job in free agency dressing, they're free. They're pass rushing need by trading for D Ford. They signed him to a teen friendly contract so situation with San Francisco where they don't trae down. They can take Nick, bows and not worry about it. Although they've really overloaded in the draft on a defensive line three of the past four years. And then you have to see what you know with the jets. I mean, if Nick Bose's is there for the judge, I think they'd take them otherwise the jets have so many holes. When I talked about hold on talking about starters pass rusher. Offensive line quarterback that they need so many players that they address in free agency. Even though they had all this money. I think the jets will you know, they're almost in a situation as I said the podcast where they're desperate to trade down because they have to come out of the draft with two or three starters. If that if that happens if one or both of those teams trade down, I know you mentioned both. I am listening to you talk about that. Tony of teams are going up for quarterbacks and bozo or Josh Allen are on the board. All of a sudden how how hard should the bills pursue trading up to maybe get one of those guys. Well, I mean, it depends on how I don't think Nick is gonna pull that far. I mean, if somehow the jets pass him up at three I think the the the Oakland Raiders could not rule will not could not run faster to the death with the with the car with his name on it. As far Josh Allen. I don't know the Josh Allens a real good fit for the bills. You know, he's more of a a standup type guy. He's a good pass rusher. He's a good three four outside linebacker. But I think he's just he's got to get a little bit stronger at the point of attack because I think he could be alive against the run. So, you know, I would would they should they look at considerate and see see what it would cost to move up. You know? Absolutely. But I I just don't think that the guy like Josh Allen would be good fifth of the bills defense. I know you were talking about Oliver earlier. But what about the concept of moving up for Clinton Williams? Is that something you think the Bill should explore? If it doesn't cost that much. Yes. I. Mean Williams is a guy who could fall more than most people think I he's one of my hobbies my second highest rate play right now behind Nick foles. I love him on the field teams you concerned that he's a little bit naive off. The field may be a small market team. Mike buffalo may be a good place for him. I mean, I'm sure they've got some highly way to play falls, you know, Josh Allen or or Quin Williams. I'm sure they would consider moving up. It depends on what the price is. I would if I'm the bills. Anyway, I'm not giving away a whole lot to move up to get quitting Williams when I could potentially get at all I'd like win Williams a lot, but you know, to get at all. Or one of the offensive tackles. And then maybe at US. Your rub tight end need in the second day of the draft. And the other thing I want to bring up with your Tonio are the quarterbacks because what happens with the quarterbacks in the first round can have an impact on what's going on with the bills at nine. Whether they you know, they keep the pick. They trade down because there's a team at wants to get a quarterback. How many guys do you think go off the board before the bills picket nine at quarterback? I'd be surprised if it's more than two right now. I think it's going to be highly Murray at the top of Arizona, then it's going to be Dwayne Haskins to either the raiders of the giants or maybe another team that moves ahead of them. To get twain asking Hatton is my number one rated quarterback. I think highly marriage a situation where the coach in Arizona really wants them. I do not see you lock top ten selection. I don't I really don't see drew lock is top twenty selection. He's going to go in the top twenty. But I think there's just too much boom and bust factor to do locks game. And somebody's going to be disappointed because you need so much work on his game. So right dance. Your question. I I think it's two Murray. And Wayne has some where does Jones ended up going is on your board? Yeah. I like Daniel Jones a lot. I think he's going to need some time. I have MS late first rounder depending on what happens with the Washington Redskins. Whether they make a trade for Josh Rosen, depending on what happens early with the giants. If they lose out on twin Haskins, I think Daniel Jones could end up in the middle part of around one needs some work on his game..

"Hopefully because they're smarter and they go do it. Right. But carried out, but I don't know. I would. Yeah. I agree with you. I think he would need to probably fall into the early twenties. And then where it's just like, you know, we're not giving up a tone to go get him. But we'd like them enough that we're just going to make it happen. Andrew Metcalfe seven asks what are the chances that the cheese draft a linebacker in the first three rounds? I don't think it's super high. I mean, they've spent a lot of early assets and a lot of money at the linebacker position. You've got door, you know, Daniel with a third around pick. And you know, this year's fourth is being spent on Reggie Ragland. And they spent a lot of money on Anthony Hitchens like that's not a position where I think you can go in use one of your four best assets to address that position. Maybe if if they were it would be a Sam they would be trying to identify more of a rush Sam type player like that. That's the only thing that makes sense to me when it comes to the linebacker position. Well, also, there's not a linebacker were taking in the first three. Around. That's not named Devon. Through Wilson, you could probably make a case for he would be the only one I probably as for the the linebacker market is weird in the straffed because you've got very top-heavy. But then it's everything else is just day. Three guys. More very close today. Three guys. It's it's bizarre. At Tisza l- sage elite that's an elite named Jake and Tisza sage asks if Hopkinson TJ Hopkinson falls to twenty one in no big defensive players are on the board..
NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions
"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week

"Oh my God. How do you pick? The how are the lions gonna win this game the Steelers so hot? Never gets old. Some of the worst audio ever. Oh my God. All right. Let's jump add quick note, Devon white. He's rumored alliance before scoring eleven to the Bengals in mcshea as it also TJ Hopkinson. What do you think about this landing spot NFC north TJ Hopkinson too the Packers at number twelve? I think it'd be unbelievable. And remember to Packers have two first round picks. They can go whatever direction they want. I'll tell you what I'd like to see the Packers do at twelve. Their offensive line is at a scary point guard play is an atrocity now Bahktiar and blogger are very good. But they're also getting up there. They're always banged up. Is that a spot you look at Joe Williams early? Maybe save some money move on. I don't know they got two picks wouldn't mind Hopkinson there. And then they come back. I think it thirty with another pick. And maybe they address the defense. But I'll tell you what I do with thirty. I brought draft another wide receiver. I gotta put as many weapons around him as possible. So you take a Paris Campbell, the keel, Harry, you Param with Saint Brown and with Adams. And the other kid whose name escapes me. I apologize. Geronimo Alison or whoever else did the two young kids scheduling Valdez Gatling, Mike. I think if you're to pack you load up in the first round on offense players, Aaron here's to new toys figure.

"Clearly, loved them comes here. Phenomenal work at the masonry put an exclamation point on it. You get a guy who didn't like a great workout. So be it. So what it doesn't matter? It's like you want your guys you like to be within a range if they nail it. Great. But they don't and they're within a range fine. So you come here ready to change too. Many opinions too key, though guys is the underclassmen we do not have verifiable measurable on any of these hundred and four hundred forty four underclassmen are now in the draft. Now that numbers is debatable. Because some guys aren't considered technically underclass, and but I have one hundred and forty four newcomers at weren't expected in and they are obviously you're going to be critical in terms of where they go because most of them first second third rounders, but we don't even know how tall they are what they way how they're going to test. What they're going to run. So that's key for those guys more than anybody else. Mel kiper junior with us here on golick and wingo. All right. I'll take the bait. Then who's the newcomer? You're most excited to see. Maybe outside of the couple obvious quarterback answers that we've gone through. Yeah. I think when you look at the the wide receiver position guys, and I think that's the key. When you think about a decay Metcalf at ole miss, and we've seen the photos, and you know to the sixty seven career receptions, which is it many. We know about the the bloodlines of decay Metcalf. I wanna see him physically and he's coming off injuries had a foot, and then he had a knack. How is he what is the feeling of decay Metcalf after this workout and TJ Hopkinson tight end Iowa talking about six five two hundred and fifty Pounder is he going to run a four five one Greg Olsen? Did what is TJ Hopkinson do in terms of a forty does that will I think determine whether he's in the top ten like, I think he can be or drops into the mid to late first round. You just did my favorite thing in all of football. Because we talked about all the injuries. And we talk about the body parts and not the at the injuries. Are he had a foot yet a neck? We all have feet we all have next, but we just this lingo we get into what we're talking about injuries. He had a foot injury. He had a neck injuries Mellat here this anymore. Mel can you still hear us? I think we may have lost audio with Mel kiper junior. So this is the point where we can say anything, and he can't get them to say anything. Well, it was so we'll hopefully get him back. But, but I I guess to me that's always been the question and how much you put on. I've had this discussion with Bill Polian so many times, and I know there's a range, and I and I get all that. And but, but I guess my thought is if you anybody using shorts and a tee shirt to bump a guy up that that drives me nuts. If you want to use it to say, or you know, what this surprise me. So I'm going to all go watch more tape on him or this disappointed me. So I'm gonna go make sure I believe the tape that I saw I get that. But to say. Was a one kid who did the broad jump of over twelve feet and also Jones, boom, he jumped up on the drama. Like, are you kidding me? Would actually that that paid out Jones a Yukon he set the record which would have been the world record of standing broad jump would say they'll do anymore. But it kind of he's played well for the Cowboys kinda justified the pick. But I hear what you're saying. I just I don't understand how those drills you're going to say..

"Just three of thirteen on third downs. Here. The highlight of the game for me was the northwestern. Strength. Coach continues continues to get me fantasy points or. No, it was you actually took the screw loose. Yeah. The strength coach for northwestern is up there where in the short sleeve polo in twenty six degree weather, an extra medium polo. I might add XL fourteen to ten din Thai. Will you indulge me real quick? If you watched if I can't imagine anybody beyond Iowa and northwestern fans, you know, had their their eyes glued to this game until the very end. But. If you watch this first half, you know, what I'm about to do if you didn't watch the first half. You also probably know what to do. Because can I walk you through something tie? I would I would love for you to walk me through something. Then okay. Well, what happens hold on? What is that? You know, what it is? I know what it is. That's way too much energy for northwestern Iowa. Hold on this was safari playing music when it should have just been. There. It is. Puns punts downs pawns punt pawns, puns, puns, ponds punts. Hey field goal and of. It's pretty good. Right. That was going over to beakers that was only the first. Listen college football's about officiency, and they really. At least second half gave us a couple touchdowns. I don't know what I was going to do about their offense. And I understand it's I think it's Brian farance weaking of evergreen. Good lure. Yeah. I here's the thing. Every year there are different players on this Iowa offense that step up and establish themselves. This year, it really has been no offend TJ Hopkinson and MCI sergeant this these past few weeks, I think has been a playmaker. But when are we going to say, listen? Maybe we go with an outside firm to run this offense set of doing everything internally Eric prince have football product, we could look into Iowa should score thirty points a game they develop quarterbacks they put NFL linemen they develop NFL, I'm in on offense. They develop really good defense is more often than not ten points at home against northwestern. Excuse me, big ten west champ. Northwestern is unacceptable. But on the flip side northwestern is America's grower. Right. They I mean to put up just another atrocious September and then win the west, you know, find you know, is Ahah bowser and that's their offense right now that catch was incredible. But they they wrote Isaiah browser and good for good for western a really cool story. I just win win. Two more games every September. Northwestern come on. Unbelievable. Fourteen to ten fourteen to ten your final score here north western they're going to that big ten championship game quickly. Elsewhere in the world of the big ten Minnesota, forty one. Yes. Purdy ten. It was a cold. It was a snowy day in Minnesota. And the gophers defensively have been a bit of a nightmare. They were averaging five oh seven per game and total yardage going into this one..

"That being said, I mentioned, he's not a great blocker and there are times he does this little thing Ross where and you see this with pastures that aren't supremely confident in their hands. He likes to jump right before the ball gets there and that all affect you. Number one, it kind of takes your focus off the ball a little bit and then to it limits what you can do after the catch because you have to come down, secure the catch, and now you're worried about trying to make somebody miss or try and catch the ball and stride and keep going. He's got to kind of change gears a little bit because he leaves the ground to go get the football when he doesn't need to. So you know a fan, I think. Is really, really intriguing. His athleticism, his speed, his flashes as route runner. He can be a game breaking type weapon at the tight end position. I just want to see him get a little bit better in certain areas. I think he's serviceable as a blocker. He's never going to be a dominant guy at the point of attack, but I think he does just enough there to warrant being three down player. He's just going to be. He's going to be one of the most fun players to watch in this conference and he go there guys, you're watching it tight end position. Yeah, there's a couple of seniors, Matt socal from Michigan state call Herdman from Purdue. And then another kid actually stood out to me while watching Noah fat was another tight end. He's going to be. I think he's going to be a true junior this year TJ Hopkinson and he's more of like that prototype Hawkeye tight end. He really stood out to me in terms of the run game and his physicality at the point of attack. So TJ Hopkinson is going to be a junior that I'm excited to watch as well. Let's get to the only position group that really matters. We all know that it's the offense of line. You had me watch three count them three guys from Wisconsin. I love them all we can talk about it. It's unbelievable Fran. It's like they have these guys come out of a factory or out of a computer. They're all six, six and a half like three twenty and look exactly the same. Who's the guy that that you liked the most or at least studied the most of this point? The guy I've studied the most is Michael Deiter who's the? He's been a three year starter for them. He got, he's got reps as a junior, or I should say as a sophomore at center and left guard. And then this year I believe he was at left tackle for them. So you look at Michael Deiter. He's six five. He's over three hundred twenty pounds. He's got gigantic hands and he's his length probably speaks more to him being a guard at the next level as opposed to tackle. But this is a really loose athlete. He's quick off the ball. I think he's got the ability to get out in space and he's got the feet to be able to mirror with athletic interior pass rushers. He's toughest, now's, he's smart. I like the position versatility as well. He. He's stronger than he is powerful. I don't know if you saw him driving people backwards as much as I would have liked to see. But I think that this kid's got the ability to be a really good guard at the next level service will tackle. But I really would like his ability to transition inside. But Michael Deiter to me is the guy I studied most for the badgers. I think he's a really good player. He was probably the best of the three that I looked at. I love them all. I feel like dealer I would probably give them a shot at tackle. I thought he was bounced enough athletic enough that he should get a shot, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up becoming a Zack Martin or but Tonio or one of those guys that they bumped inside. I watched the big ten championship game against Nick Bosa, and I thought was really impressive. Good with his hands, good balance. And I thought he was the best athlete of the three. "That being said, I mentioned, he's not a great blocker and there are times he does this little thing Ross where and you see this pass catchers that aren't supremely confident in their hands. He likes to jump right before the ball gets there and that all affect you. Number one, it kind of takes your focus off the ball a little bit and then to it limits what you can do after the catch because you have to come down, secure the catch, and now you're worried about trying to make somebody miss or try and catch the ball in stride and keep going. He's got a kind of change gears a little. It because he leaves the ground to go get the football when he doesn't need to. So you know, a fan I think is really, really intriguing. He's just going to be he's going to be one of the most fun players to watch in this conference. Any other guys you're watching it tight end position? Who's the guy that you liked the most or at least studied the most of this point? The guy I've studied the most is Michael Deiter who's the? He's been a three year starter for them. He got, he's got reps as a junior, or I should say as a sophomore at center and left guard. And then this year I believe he was at left tackle for them. So you look at Michael Deiter. He's six five. He's over three hundred twenty pounds. He's got gigantic hands and he's his length probably speaks more to him being a guard at the next level as opposed to a tackle. But this is a really loose athlete. He's quick off the ball. I think he's got to get out in space and he's got the feet to be able to mirror with athletic interior pass rushers. He's tough as nails. He's smart. I liked the position versatility as well. I thought he was bound enough athletic enough that he should get a shot, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up becoming a Zack Martin or Tonio or one of those guys that they bumped inside. I watched the big ten championship game against Nick Bosa, and I thought was really impressive. Good with his hands, good balance. And I thought he was the best athlete. Of the three.
