Baseball and I'm very excited about that Let's kick it off with reds conversation. Right out of the shoot. Our first guest has been a contributed to this show throughout all of this He's been kind enough to let. Let me bug him a couple of times, and so I thought it only fitting delete off opening day week with him to get perspective from this past weekend where he was behind the mic for reds, dot, com, calling the red summer series, and you'll having behind the mic this week, and throughout the season for Fox sports. Ohio. That would be Chris, Welch, how are you? Doing great lands. Thanks for finding making me a leadoff hitter. I've semi coverage I WANNA leadoff. But he said don't worry. You'll eat off the third inning. Understood understood how how nice was it for you to be back at the ball yard and call in a baseball game this weekend? It was really fun for me. I mean it was was quite different. Watch it on the radio DOT COM. You realized it was artificial crowd noise. There's nobody in the stands out ball's going to. Bounce around me. Just sit. There It was hard to try to feel that there was intensity, even though the players obviously were some of more playing better to than others. I, caught it up. Renton volunteered for that. I noticed a lot of other teams around baseball. There were putting their teams is their inner squad gains on their respective websites, and then after a few games, a lot of those teams had the broadcasters broadcast. Didn't so you know I'm I'm? the only broadcaster. They didn't get paid through the throughout the whole season. for which I commend the really commend the reds for taking care of their people. Great Organization worked for, but because I'm a contract and. With box bidding Tamie so I built a lot of other guys around baseball like that so volunteer anyway I saw void. Get some reps and have some fun doing baseball and it was a blast. It was really fun and It would be more fun when the real shakes up starting later this week down and I certainly enjoyed and. Appreciated the job he did over the three days, it was fun watching and listening, but you mentioned the crowd noise. Let me tap into your experiences as a pitcher, what in terms of adrenaline in terms of just standing on the mound, towing the rubber at a sold out ballpark versus nothing what what what are going to go through in terms of adjusting to all this? Life. Here in a sold out ballpark. At least for my experience, you don't hear really anything except kind of a muffle more and everything just kind of elevate your Lyndon someone. You'll hear any one person on. The ballpark was hardly anybody there. You hear basically a conversation going on in the DUGOUT. You can hear the broadcasters broadcasting the game and it's it's really. Some Bourbon I rather have more people. It's not necessarily from an Adrenalin standpoint. Just because you know having a little bit of background always is comforting. Chris, how good was Sonny Gray yesterday? And how about what the reds have tapped into in getting him back to kind of is Oakland A.'s days over the last year and a half. Even better than that it for man. That's what he looks like. He obviously took care of himself during the break he he worked hard at. His. His year last year was all about for me being able to control the fast on inside. Are The plate left-handers? Then he throws breaking ball in the same spot makes over and all day long. he is you just season excellent competitor. The great acquisition I idea until I got a little bit. How, what a competitor here really is and I'll tell you what he's GonNa make everybody pitching staff a little bit better. I think one of the cool stories that come out of all. This is the fact that Nate Jones is healthy and he's made this team. If you could relate you have a bass fishing lake nate. Jones connection here if you could tell us that story. In real spring training back with. Some Butler Kentucky Yeah Zest. I said I know where that is Dan. Penalty County right near Que Les, and I taught myself a this camp down there. The kids down there fish off a pontoon boat I. Want Great Place. That it was Metaxas Dermot standpoint or all the huge fast team from northern Kentucky and there was a special where. Locals told me how to fish. That and I'll tell you real quick. Basically you get a broomstick and you put a heavy gauge line on like twenty or thirty pound test line big all hook which be bigger than normal for a bath. Pork Rind on the end of it and a Hula Skirt and. Dip that thing down there about eight to ten feet deep. Deep Lake, and there's a bunch of stumps, logs and everything everyone because it's a man-made Lake and those basketball out of the darkness, and we shouldn't get grabbed out there that talk behind Hula Skirt. That's the way he's GonNa. Take it on down at the taxes so. That was the way you finish that late and you have. He was very familiar with John. I didn't work for me. The wrong Color Hulu Shirk on us clearly that is fantastic. Chris, Welch checking in from Fox Sports Ohio talking a little a reds baseball at big picture in that pan. Is that we? I think everybody feels good about the rotation. How comfortable are you with that bullpen and maybe more specifically Amir Garrett. Mirror Garrett and Cody Ri put them in the same category, but especially a busy more major league experience this ceiling unlimited. Dominating. Buddy in baseball asked kind of cigarette think for a mere. Simply getting more reps i. think the more that he pitches the movies to understand this delivery the Hor. He's got understand what the situation is I think. That, it's very difficult for a great athlete like Amir Garrett is to learn how to back off a little bit. You get out. There is a girl is going into. The game managers call. Toughest left-handers on this ballclub. Come out there and and the biggest. problem you would have is trying too hard and I think that's the thing for me. I know cloud don't worry. Once he gets into the flow of the game and the flow of the. He's going to be fine, but initially I think he's got a fight the adrenaline because he's one of these athletes you know from the basketball background. We're really helps you. You Piran you get the rebound if You're on the mound. Let's talk hitting. What are your impressions I? Know you saw him in spring, but kind of update is your impressions of what Shogo might add to this team. Really. Interesting to watch number one defensively, he might be the best. Best about player. The reds have had Scott Rolen Anita's everything right in the field, always backing up Santa! Rice Fine Karloff man I mean he is. Cincinnati people are GonNa love him because that's the way we play baseball right there, right? From offense of standpoint, interesting to watch because I don't think reds. Fans have seen a player quite like this before. He's got a little run out of the box. Slim He slaps at the ball hit. The ball doesn't look like you're supposed to hit. McGee when he was a left handed hitter sweatshirt, but when he hit love. Saint Louis Cardinals. He was the MVP and nineteen eighty five. slap the ball all over the place. Where the speed do the talking and I think? The same way he's interesting guy I think he's a good addition to this club for a lecture on. I know you have a passion for what you've created this rules. Rachel's in tonight for Gary Jeff Walker nine to midnight. Thanks for all the tweets I'm Atlanta's mcallister twitter feed is presented by my friends at barley corns. They have three locations in northern. Kentucky and they are hiring at each of those locations. Thanks to Burley Corns for presenting the twitter feed quick, follow up in their own wants you to hear a couple of things at Kirk. Sally said. Today or a over the weekend what Chris Welch said about Shogo. The most fundamentally sound reds player since Scott Rolen. And he said you're GONNA love it. I go back to what David Bell said last week when he was two weeks news here on Sports, talk and he talked about show goes approach at the plate. Approaching it as a craft was the word he used. The baseball I Q. The ability to run the bases. You may not steal a lot of bases, but one thing you saw him do yesterday. He singled on a on a chopper up the middle. Joey votto was up next and Joey flared one to right and Shogo went I a third like it was nothing. If, Shogo can get on base. What that does to jump start this offense. Last legitimate on BASS GUY team had was Shinsu chew in two thousand thirteen. Think of what it does to the rest of that batting orders at falls into place, and just think about all those little things that when you are when you're described the way Chris Welch described him. You're hitting the cutoff man. You're throwing to the right base. You're taking the extra base. You're hitting behind the runners. All of those things are huge, and it seems as though they're just. They come naturally a second nature to show Gawky. That's him as a baseball player and I love that. Kirk Rally said something, a couple of things that that stuck out with eight, and the more I hear, Kirk talk and he was with segued for a while during the the Doug had interviews during the last baseball, but Kirk Sally one has a as a great voice to. He has really good insight into the game he could articulated in threes got a sense of humor, and if you add all that up, I tweeted this earlier I. Think Kirk Alec can be a baseball analyst someday whether it's TV or radio MLB. MLB. Network whatever it is, he's a really smart guy. Can talk the game baseball and inject a little bit of humor in it and I? I've always enjoyed what he's been on the show with me as well. He was asked about remember last week. We talked to MLB DOT. COM ranked the top ten starting rotations in baseball, and they write the reds third and I did a topic on that now we talked about the depth, the quality and depth of that read starting rotation Kurt was asked about it any said third. I think three is a little low I think this should be higher I think our staff did something crazy last year with with a turnaround that they did you know from dozen eighteen two dozen nineteen. They put in a lot of hard work the DJ Caleb. They did a lot of work on their own and. We came together as a staff for sure I mean are if you look at our lineup of? Are Starting reducing. Excuse me, I mean! On paper, it's scary and in real life. It's even scarier and I'm not I. don't even think it's top. Heavyweight people are saying I. Think when you you know you guys like disco. Fonteyn Wave Miley get just lost because the top three are just so talented, but. Wade through Friday night Napoli Card might team up and disco throws about the most untalkative about ninety six, ninety seven in the big league, so he's got wipe out slider. So from that perspective I think we're really good, I think. I think we're both ends. Accept Challenge and and and. Do what they did last year in and take a step up. Into two thousand and twenty I think he'll be better. Lorenzo is going to be better. guy like Pedro. STROKE IS GONNA. Come in and add some to our door Volkan. Amir Stevenson. These guys, these guys all have caliber experience now they have a lot of experience in and hopefully stars go as long as possible, and they won't have too much, but when they get in. They're gonNA. They're gonNA. Close the door and help us preserve someone's bill. That was good stuff on raids rotation low at three overall on paper. It's scary in real life. It's even. Even scarier reds catcher, Kirk Sally and I loved his answer when he was asked about it. I think everybody's wondering what we've talked forever about sixty games and the impact and what it might do, and what it might not do what it means for teams and players and managers, and then there was Kurt when he was asked what what he thinks about a sixty game season. I don't know I really don't know it's. It's definitely a great question. I. Don't think anybody knows just I think it just adds a lot of pressure to win each and every game I. Know Our our one run loss record last year is just not going to cut it. We have to be able to. If we have one day, we have to be able to lock it down and and when that thing and. You know if if you win one game, it's more like you just one three and it's I mean that that's huge so. I'm excited about I. Think it's I. Think unique that we get to be a part of history in swear. That statement and that ending I think it's unique that we get to be a part of history it is. It's the tone that this team. This organization is taken from day one. I remember talking with Josh van meter the week that they were going to start a talked about how having a positive frame of mind was going to be the biggest thing going into all this. There was a lot of stuff they weren't sure about. There was GONNA be testing and testing and testing protocols, and they were going GonNa have to learn what they could do and what they couldn't do it. He said in the end. It's about getting your mind right. And I noticed that right away with the guys we talked to how their. For lack of a better word, their talking points in their mind were were going to make the best of this. It might not be ideal, but we're going to make the best of this and make it work and I think each of the players have taken that as the Q. and run with it. I think it sets them up really well beginning Friday night in the sixty game run I. Want I want you to listen to one more from from Kurt talking about the reaction, this weekend of the crowd noise being pumped in vibe after the two scrimmages, but also listen to what he said about what is driving him this season. I'll tell you I was pleasantly surprised with how. These past two games Friday and Saturday have gone with the crowd noise and the scoreboard and the music, and just the way that it kind of heightened our senses, and made it more exciting to play as opposed to the the the kind of live EP scrimmage like games that we were playing last week. I it it definitely I, think energized us. Is it GonNa be the same as as last year like honestly the most fun opening ever been part of but. No, it's not but. We as opposed to taking energy from the fans that are giving us. We have to create it ourselves and I think we can we have? We have enough young guys in this team. We have enough guys. Frankly, they haven't won enough that want to win I. We just we just WanNa win. I have never been to the playoffs in the Big Leagues and that drives me absolutely in San I wanNA. Make it this year. My Life's mission to to make that happen if I need to scream more on the bench, which is not something that I'm particularly comfortable with or good at I'm going to do it. And it just something that we we have to come together with as a team to be able to create that energy. I feel like we've. We've done a pretty good job in the past two games. I think it's been fun. It's been. Exciting to play him, but We have to figure out another way to do it. The thing is at nobody's playing with fans. Everybody's a here and that same crowd noise. So in some ways it's a it's an equalizer. But. We can. We can figure it out. I've got exportations in hopes for for our squad. I love that sound bite. What he said about dealing with what they're presented and what he said about what's driving him and whatever it takes. Love that when we come back Tucker, Barnhart said something. I've never heard a hitter. Say in terms of hitting. You'll hear it and let's see we've heard from Kirk. You're going to hear from, Tucker you'll hear from Nate Jones later on in the seven o'clock hour in Trevor Bauer I'd love to hear from you. It's reds opening day week. Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one and pound, seven, hundred odd at and T. R. L. Carriers sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet, seven hundred WWL W. Close It on seven o'clock, we're flying in our number one. We're knee deep in the reds. Conversation I'm lions. mcallister carrier sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet. This is Kennedy, kitching half. Are we from, Kirk? In the last segment Tucker. Bernard said a couple of things that jumped out to me one. You'll hear. I is Sonny Gray and the improvement and it's why I ask. Chris Welch about it in the opening interview of the show. Just how good sunny was last year? How good he's been so far in this restart four hitless innings yesterday. Five strikeouts one walk. Tucker Barnhart talked about how far Sonny's come. And what it? What Derek Johnson Caleb coffin in new surroundings have meant and how sunny I'm not even sure we can say is back to his Oakland, as day Chris kind of referenced it. He's better than his Oakland as days. Here's Tucker Barnhart on Sunday, Gray. I think when we acquired him. from from new. York I think just getting back with guys that he's familiar with whether. It's Kurt whether it's Dj whether it's Caleb. Just being in an environment just to really help bring the most are the best out of Sunday. I think for me. Was extremely important in the in the kind of the rebounder? The successes that he's had I mean Ev. It's always been there. It's not like it's gone away a, but but it's just really coming back out I. Mean it's the the guy that you saw in Oakland and in the? When he first came up in the big leagues in now I think this is even better version of that. I faced him in live probably a week and a half ago and I'm really glad that he's on my team because he's A. He's a bear to face. When you're at the play, I think he punched me out twice in to bat, so he's A. A fun got having a clubhouse. He's brings out the best in everybody's competitor and I can't say enough good things about him I mean. Let's go back Sonny Gray is a Yankee. The give it up on him. They didn't know what to do with him. They had taken him out of their starting rotation. Fans in new. York had turned on him and the. Just wanted to find somebody to take him off their hands. Do you realize what the contract was. The Red Sign Sunny to the extension. Four years thirty eight million dollars this year, Sunny Grays, GonNa make well pro-rated, but overall. It was ten point one next year ten point one, the following year, ten point one million and the option year they'd pick it up twelve million in a day and age where there are pitchers making twenty, five, thirty, thirty Sherzer, and and those thirty five million. The reds are getting Sonny Gray for the next three years at ten million a year. Tucker Barnhart. something. That I don't know I've heard a hitter. Say in terms of switch hitting. Many of them. Don't want to give it up. Tucker Bernhardt has given it up. Listen to what he said about what that decision has done for him. Truly the. To just hitting left handed for me has been such a game changer. It's my natural side, and the. The amount of anxiety that I don't have when it comes to having to figure, try to figure out heating right handed. has taken so much off of my plate. It's allowed me to prepare just as a left-handed hitter, and like I, said it is my natural side, and and really focus on the things that I do right or when I'm going well. The things that I'm doing right and things I need to work on when when when things start to go a little haywire so for me personally. I feel very good. I feel very comfortable to play I'm just looking forward to getting in the real things. Go a real games going here. really soon. How about that? He gave up right handed hitting for his career Tucker Barnhart batting left. Handed is a to fifty eight hitter, three, thirty, six on base as a right handed hitter for his career to nineteen hitter. To Ninety six on base, and what he said that decision, a game changer the amount of anxiety. He doesn't have to deal with now. Thinking about hitting right handed and allowing him to focus on other things last year Tucker Barnhart as a right handed batter hit one forty six. As a left-hander, he hit two forty seven hundred one point time a gun on base thirty four percent of the time for catcher. Not, but you'll take back. For his career as a left handed batter. Is Batting average is thirty eight points higher than right, handed his on base. It's forty percent higher. His slugging is one hundred thirty six points higher. To major difference and yet guys do it if you can do it in. In theory it helps you and gives you the flexibility against both pitchers, but Tucker reached a point where he just he wasn't having success. Right handed, and why? Why just grind it if the success isn't there? And now Tucker will get. The right handed pitchers, most pitchers in major league baseball are right handed, so he'll be the left handed. Hitter gets right. He's playing most of the time. Kirk. Alley then gets the left handed. pitchers might get the occasional mix and match depending on who starting the game, but i. just those words are going to stick with me with what Tucker Barnhart said about what it's done for his his mindset and exile I and Zaidi level, not having to worry about the failures. And try to crawl out of that hole as a right handed hitter I think that's huge. It was good stuff from both catchers. Let's do this, but what are in the books already? Nate. Jones is made the team the prior to foul mouth. Hedge ought to be able to sleep in your own bed. In foul drag to the ballpark every day. That Trevor Bauer on this pitching staff. The challenges the competition within and. The hundred green instagram in tweet, and what it means and I'm going to tie that into what Trevor said. he's impressions are at one hundred that have played a little bit of last week. We'll do that as we continue. You are certainly welcome into the mix to join the conversation. Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one and pound, seven, hundred at and T.. This is our now carrier sportstalk presented by killing Chevrolet at seven hundred wliw. The following takes place between seven PM and eight PM. Let's keep crews and seven zero nine seven hundred wwl wwl's arnelle carriers sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet Oblast. mcallister thanks for hanging out being part of the show tonight. Rachel's in at nine. She will take you nine to midnight. We've got a lot of ground to cover it. We got busy with the reds. Conversation I our Chris Welch you're from Kirk Sally eared from Tucker Bernard a little bit later on. You're going to hear Trevor Bauer, and a couple of things but Let's begin here. I am I am no secret about this. I'm a big fan of nate. Jones the reds relief pitcher. Nate is. From Kentucky went to ince you. has spent his entire career up until now with the Chicago White SOx before signing with the reds in the off season found out. He made the team over the weekend. He's a client of my guy. Juice speed big fan of Joe Speed so I'm happy on on that front as well. I've been around nate. I was with him and his wife for a charity event. They hosted at top Gulf a couple of years ago in just in the limited time around him became a big fan of how he carries himself. He's A. He's a humble guy. He's A. He's a family guy. I love the story. He told US months ago during at the start of all this when he and his dad built, a pitching mound went to. PLO bought the tools and built them out and set it up in his barnes. We could pitch from the bar to the outside. I also like the fact. He's a veteran. Who's been there done that that they can add bullpen. A glazes Lorenzen. Garrett Stevenson. Tyler, Molly. SIMS I? They're not. They're not kids, but they don't have the experience life experience as a reliever like someone like Nate Jones even somebody like Pedro strope to additions to this bullpen which I think will serve them well, and they're two different types of personalities, which which I think will serve them well over the weekend. The made it official David Bell told Nate he had made the team and it's been a been hurt off and on the last couple of years when he's been healthy, there's no secret. He's been out stay. He's been filthy when he's been healthy. David Bell talked about how. Buddy his father, who had been in the white sox organization new nate from the time when he was healthy and said if healthy. I think he can really help your team and I believe that to be true because natives. The gun has him around ninety, five, ninety six ninety seven miles an hour. He's got a funky delivery. That takes a little bit of time to. To figure out if you'RE A hitter, I've just I've been impressed with how he's carried himself for the longest time. That I I think it's really cool that this next chapter of his career includes being able to come home the kid from Foul Mouth N. K. U. Player, who now gets to sleep in his own bed every night and drive to the ballpark. He talked. Yesterday about the reaction. His Reaction Finding out he made the team. been a long journey, but it definitely been worth it. And for it to be this close to home in a lot of people to be able to experience it with me is is pretty is pretty exciting, and I'm very thankful and very blessed for that for sure I get to go home to my own bed at night. Not a lot of guys get the opportunity to do that in their career, and so when this opportunity arose this offseason being a free agent. Jumped on it, and in hopes, that I could do that the yeah, it's not a bad drive at all it. Calms you down after a game night and get you ready. It's your mind. Right on the drive in for about thirty five forty minutes. Nate Jones yesterday on making the team. He's appeared two hundred eighty four major league games in relief I believe all those are in relief. Yes, just double checking at three twelve earned run average for his career. This obviously be the first time he's pitching without fans in the stands. He was asked about the focus when there's no crowd noise. That's a great question. It all comes down to focus. You know we have as. We have a job to do. And that's those strikes. No matter if there's a crowd or not, and so you really lock in what your job like at the simplest form is to do. And you Tariq Iraq rate that energy by that way like I need to throw strikes a big situation where up about one run it's late in the game and so and just had the on to kind of ADDS a little extra energy to make making it feel more like a game and then. The crowd noise that they're playing in I mean it isn't the worst thing in the world I guess. It helps you out a little bit, too. But just breaking it down to the simple game baseball, and it's simple as being pitcher. We need to throw strikes, and so that's the one thing I focused on is what gives me energy to to make game like as possible. Nate Jones. Reds Reliever on Zoom, call yesterday with the media and think about this as a kid grew up. A reds fan grew up going to ballpark. And now as a thirty three year old. Pitching for that team on the mound at Eh Great, American ballpark and Friday will be opening day. He was asked about his memories as a kid of opening day. Absolutely watch it on TV. The parade I mean the parade is outrageous. It's always got covered by the news and stuff, and so I thought that was. always something pretty cool. I was not fortunate enough to ever make it to an opening day. But like I mentioned before you know when we had perfect attendance or the Abyan role grown up one of the. Prizes or gifts you got was a two tickets to a reds game. And so I do remember all those and because you know. I'm not saying. I was the best suit or made the school every day, but when I did you know you realize like? Hey, you got to go to reds, game and so Those experiences with my family were ones I'll you know cherish and never forget especially the time now that? You know. People are gonNA. Come and watch me. You know if they're still doing avion real like giveaways. Perfect tennis giveaway, so that's. You know that's a pretty cool thought. Nate Jones reds, reliever and Abyan role have to wait told next year of course with fans of the stands, but I I love. Let me give you more time in this segment. He was asked about as someone who grew up a fan of rates baseball. If he has experienced one of those moments where it's Kinda him, you grew up a fan of the team. Now you're playing for the team and he referenced. It hasn't happened. This time rounded happened in spring, trading and Goodyear. I mean it happened in spring training already. That was Barry Larkin and it. It was on our fiscal day. And he was standing right outside the locker room, popped open the locker room, doc or door and Almost like froze as a second by where my Wisey here and then it all on me I'm like the. But but yeah, it has happened already. How's with Barry Larkin in? Immediately he introduced himself started talked me new was from and and so that was a cool experience in just down to Earth Great Guy Willing to talk willing to share info and it was Is another little memory I'll I'll not forget. Nate Jones good stuff when we continue I thought. Trevor Bauer brought up a great point the other night when he talked about not just the competition on this pitching staff, but how different each pitcher is and what they can learn from each other as a result. We'll do that and more of course. Take your calls at five, one, three, seven four. Four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big pounds, seven, hundred, odd at and T. we jumped into the reds conversation deep I've got an idea by the way about an empty ballpark. Coming up at seven thirty five I, think could be a win. Win for the reds, and for fans all late that out as we continue. We kind of have a theme tonight. We've heard from Chris Welch who joins US IT START KIRK. Sally heard from Tucker Bernard from Nate Jones one more, and I heard this the other night driving home from Trevor Bauer when he joined the guys on MLB radio, talking about and we. We've referenced this before. The good staffs, the feed off of each other. And I'm not saying the reds staff is the brave staff of the ninety when I make this analogy, but the the braves have said over the years that Galvin's Maddox smoltz guys like that they the competition they fed off of it, and it raised their game from one start to the next. There's also the added element in this case with the reds of the makeup. The stuff on this starting rotation listen to what trevor. Bauer told the guys from MLB radio the other night about the competition and about the differences within that pitching rotation. I if you'd office obviously the competition on the field watching a guy, go out there and punch out ten and seven shutout like Oh man. Like stepped my game up I got you know I gotTa do better? That's everyone feels that way. You know so the the competition on the field drive each other, and then when you're sitting in the dugout and you're talking about okay. What did you see with them last night? And you're allowed. You approach it, and we'll have such different approaches. Right I mean Sonny is very heavily. Breaking ball like that sinker, comebacker and stuff like that Casteel is very heavily like a sinker and a change at. I'm almost exclusively for Siem and curveball and breaking balls, so we'll all different approaches. And we can Kinda, learn. CAST is like this guy. You know when I saw this in swing. Through a change happens like okay well. I can use that because I got a changeup. It's not nearly as good as yours, but I put that in back of my mind, so so we can bounce stuff off each other and then. Wade Majlis been around and seen a lot as well and you got the finding there as well who I mean. We all have our unique ways of going about approaching it, but we all have our very distinct strengths, and those are things that can pass back and forth to each other, and that's even starting to talk about the bullpen and what they see on the town. We got down there. I like that that's good stuff from from Trevor Bauer by the way on a starting pitching level down below. I don't I. Don't know what to make of this. Nothing has come out of it today, but last night. Hundred Green tweeted and posted on instagram. A locator at said Cincinnati Ohio And he tweeted in all capital letters. Let's go. Leading to rapid speculation about what that meant, the obvious instant reaction is wait a minute. He coming. Is he coming to town or they adding him to the player pool? Now what I find it intriguing that stayed up for a couple of hours and then was removed. Here's here's what I could see happening. The reds have would dietrich now asking for and receiving his release, they still have three openings on their sixty man player pool. I could see the reds announcing. They've added hundred green to the pool and he'll. Go and I could see the reds also say you know. What are you doing? You're killing his here. You can't. You can't release transactions before we make transactions because there might be other moving pieces and parts to all this I could see that scenario I don't know. I could see this area where somebody says hey, take that down because a something might happen, so maybe he's taking it down. But what would it surprise me if they added him to Pasco No? Hundred Green missed all of last season because of the Tommy John Surgery. He setting up to miss another season because there's no minor league season. And keep in mind. The last time he pitched was twenty eighteen in through sixty eight innings that year we talked about this last week. His his senior year in high school. They kid gloves him and let him only make five appearances. Then the reds drafted him. They sent him to billings. He pitched four and a third innings in billings when he was seventeen then in two thousand. Thousand Eighteen pitches at Dayton. He made eighteen appearances through sixty eight and a third innings. Then he had the elbow issues at shut him down at the end he tried to Rehab rested didn't work. He had Tommy John. Surgery missed all of last season man. It would not be good for anybody if he missed all of this season now he's not going to have a season, but. You could adding depress. Go and having throw on a regular basis as part of the reds player pool, and then I don't know that we're gonNA, get crazy and say if push comes to shove or if he's really feeling good, you know the I. Find It hard to believe. They were jumping from low a Dayton in two thousand, eighteen to the major leagues in September Stranger. Things have happened, but it would not shock me if after all of that last night in a tweet and then in an instagram Cincinnati is the locator. Let's go in all capital letters than being. We would see in the next day or so. The reds announced they have added hundred green to the player pool in. He will work with the group out of prisco Park would not shock. We've reached the midway. Point of the show I've got an idea. I got a lot of ideas. Some are bad. I think this idea works. I think it would be good for you. I think it would be good for the reds. I think it would be good for the reds community. Fund will lay that out as we continue its Arnelle carrier sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet at seven hundred. Joe Borough. To this point. has had a virtual offseason. All by Zoom. Now, Joe Borough will have no preseason. His starting left tackle. Who hasn't played in a preseason game yet will not play in a preseason game this year. Week one assuming there is an NFL season will be the first type of NFL game experience against another team. The Joe Borough and Joan Williams will experience. And t higgins and the other rookies in this class obviously. Holy Moly. NFL again offering the Players Association today zero preseason games this summer. All right I have an idea. I some are good. Some are bad. I think I think this one I I always say. What's the downside and I thought of this watching the reds. The summer series. The scrimmage on reds dot com over the weekend. If you happen to notice whenever a foul ball was hitting the stands, the camera focused on the ball, rolling down the aisle, or underneath the seats from like row twelve, bouncing down to Roy Levin bouncing down the road, ten down the road, until it finally stopped, and it became kind of comical like watch the the foul ball roll, drop, role, drop, and then stop. Here's my idea. What do people love? Kids love at Baseball Games. Foul balls, catching foul balls, chasing foul balls. What's not going to happen this year at the reds games catching foul balls and chasing foul balls. I've got something that might be just as good. I'd argue better. What a threads had and they do that. Reds authentic. The the online. What if the reds had employees? Couple of them in the ballpark. Who Chase down the foul balls? During the game. And then after the game. And as they chased him down, a they would, they would mark on their the their APP, or whatever sheet they record all the reds authentic stuff. You record this foul ball Joey votto. And after the game. Or maybe once a week. The players would sign their foul balls. And then those balls go up for bid at Reds Dot Com with the proceeds going to the rates. Community Fund. What do you think? You're watching on listening to the game on radio. Foul foul opted a third base side bounds around section whatever? X. Number of reds employees. Maybe! They walk around with buckets. PICK THEM UP Tagum. Mike. Mustafa's foul ball July thirty first wherever the date. Once a week or when the reds come back from a homestand. Mike Mustafa's. Here's your bucket. If you could please, sign these, he said, and those go up on reds, dot, com, or through rides off. Phoenix and you could see the date the opponent the player, and then there would be bid you get the bid. Highest bidder gets the ball. Money goes to Charlie Franken. The Reds Community Fund. I got another idea to that because the essence of foul balls is supposed to be about kids. Here's what I'd add to. To it, the reds do a fantastic thing with the reds, heads, Kids Club, Casey and Peyton were members of the reds, heads, kids, club, and when you're young, forget up to what age you sign up for this club, and you get to go to events at the Reds Hall of fame, and a meet and greet with players, and you get a backpack for school, and you get schedule magnet. You get a bunch of cool stuff that comes with it. Well I would add to it. A couple of times a game. The announcement would be made maybe on the TV side. You could hear Thom Brennaman saying. A tonight's reds heads kids. Club member is Jimmy Jones from Anderson Jimmy. The next foul ball is yours, and it will be signed by the player who falls off from the reds. And from that pool of all your ribs, heads, kids club members each night. Maybe you draw two names, you draw a name, the you'd make it the third and sixth inning. The reds heads kids club foul ball inning. Tonight sixth-inning tonight's reds heads kids. Club member is. Suzie Q. From Dell High and Suzie Q.. You get the first foul ball this inning. It'll be signed by the reds player who thousand off that that player then signs it the next time around next time at the end of the. Or whatever you, you have this group meeting the sign them and the reds would then send that out. To Suzie Q. And del high as part of her bonus for being a member of the reds I have no idea how many kids are in the rights, heads kids club if he did to a game each home game. That's a thirty home games that sixty I don't know if there's maybe there's one hundred twenty kids maybe do a couple of inning. Maybe do one every three innings. The details. Let them. Work out the details I look at this is what's the downside? As is. Nobody's going to get those balls. They're just going to bounce around and land in the stand somewhere until somebody eventually picks them up. Nobody's GonNa have the experience the entire season of chasing down a foul ball. So rather than just collect them all and sanitize them and reuse them again. They were going to be gone anyway once they went into the stands. You weren't getting back. So collect the foul balls. Have the players side him. Put Them Up, forbid maybe eighty each night you twenty four hours after twenty four hours. The bidding is closed and that Joey votto foul ball goes to the highest bidder. That was I'd pick your number. How much would somebody pay for Joey votto foul ball that he was going to sign I? Don't know that seemed to me. That sounds like bordering on a truckload of money for the reds. Community Fund, which is taking a significant hit win win! Community Fund gets money. Fans get a baseball. Fans get it signed by player and weren't even at the game because they can't be in their bummed about that, but you say hey, you know we feel for you. And that's one of the cool experiences of reds, baseball and just baseball game. That foul ball chase. Here's what we're GONNA do so I've taken care of those who are of the adult persuasion who would bid online and are taking care as a reward. Hey, thanks for hanging with his during this reds, heads, kids club membership, and we know it's not the season. Season that you thought it was going to be when you signed up, but how about this? I might make it. I don't know how many kids are in the reds, heads, kids club, but I think it'd be pretty cool and aid. You get the kids. What do we need kids doing watching baseball? How cool would it be if the kids are watching to hear their name cold by Thom Brennaman coming out of the commercial break, we begin the sixth inning in tonight's sixth-inning reds heads. Kids called foul ball goes to Jimmy Joe in Covington. Jimmy this first foul ball the inning, and then they make a big deal foul back in into the stands by Nick, Castanos and a reminder. What was our kids name? That ball it'll be signed by Nick and we are sending it out to you. Thanks for being a member of the reds, kids club. If you'd like to sign up, good reds dot, com slash reds, heads, kids club. To make any sense mad. Again. There will always be people who don't like my ideas, just on principle that but I ask you this. What would be the downside to that? You're giving them to the kids who were involved with your kids club. And then everybody else has an equal shot to bid on I mean how many fouls are there in a game? There's going to be a Lotta them in a game. Why. Not put them to good. Why not put something to use that? You were never going to get back in a real game once they went into the stands anyway. Five one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred on at and T. I will say on bombed unless it's going to be a late rush to do this I. Am bummed and I think the reds have missed an opportunity for not offering the cardboard cutouts I thought about it in the three games I watched on. Reds Dot Com specifically behind home plate in the diamond seats with. There's nothing there. There and I watched what cubs white sox last night and there were cut out. I watched the pirates game yesterday. There were cut outs behind home plate I think the reds missed an opportunity offering cutouts. If you want to sell them and put that money to the Reds Community Fund and let fans their faces appear in in the Ballpark, but that's just me. It is a carrier sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on seven hundred WWL W. Close it and on eight o'clock eight o'clock already all right. Here's the second part of the plan. I would then alternate because foul balls are cool. I mean who doesn't want a foul ball. But what's cooler than a foul ball, a home run ball I would alternate the home run balls between what like the first one of each game goes up for bid? The second one goes to a reds, heads, kids, club, member and. And you alternate throughout the game and you'd also add now. This would be more difficult to get the opposing player to sign it. Can you imagine if you included the opposing players? And maybe a home run hit by Homerun hit by Cassiano. Move stock us or vodka or Suarez or or Anthony. Rizzo or Havi are says not that I'm rooting for opposing players to hit home runs in the Ballpark, but you get the idea. How many let's see how many home games thirty home games. What's the average number of the home runs hit per game times thirty I mean think of the possibilities of a game. Where say two home runs or hit? One goes up for bid. And one goes to redheads, kids club member. No downside from where I sit self-funding go, Gregg welcome to seven hundred wwl W sportstalk. All Right I. Think you got a great idea. What about? Taking it to baseball lottery. People by to see. And if the ball lands on your seat, then you win the ball and you win one hundred dollars. Oil, but think of the difficulty of the ball landing in a seat. If the ball land in where your seat is under your seat, exactly then you want two thousand dollars, and if you call the batter that hits it, you win a million dollars that seems rather complicated. And it seems the ball is on your seat. Right under your see you win the ball and you win some money and people by the seat. It's real simple, so you by the secret dollar. You're not sitting there, but if the ball comes, you might wanNA million dollars I didn't see in in the three games. I watch this weekend. Here's the issue I didn't see a single ball land in well, the seats were up. Our most ball's GonNa roll just roll and climbing around wherever ends up. If it's under the seat, the space you bought for dollar, you win a certain amount of money, and if you win ten thousand dollars, and your kid gets the ball and you get it signed I. Think you've got some people watching implying. Greg. Thanks for the phone call. Let's go here about pat on seven hundred wwl W hate bad. Lanfei doing okay. How about you? I think you're onto an awesome ideas. You've had some incredible barking ideas over the last couple of weeks. I mean I'm really impressed. You're in the wrong industry. Although you're good at what you do. Thank you, thank you. But tears, my only thing that pops up. and. Yeah, okay, so we've been on these things. There's so many kids out there whose parents are not working losing money. He can't afford to bring their kids to a ball game and they can't afford to bid on a ball. Luckily. I can enough still. Working very well. but One out of every four balls how he put that up for. Okay you. Put Your name in the lottery and kid can't afford for his parents to bid on. One gets one I'd be for that. Yeah I. I am combining. I'm including kids who were in the reds, heads, kids club, but that does that cost something to join so I get that I kind of liked that you could. You could have like a like a kids lottery I. Don't know how we make it specific to well, you'd have to provide the information for your kid like date of birth and that information and you put that into like the kids pool and. You, draw the home, run balls and foul balls from from that standpoint as well I could go for that. The parents write a letter. Have the kids write a ladder and you know all the kids I mean? There's always a ton of kids in. I mean I do a lot of stuff with UC children's. Chester, there's a tunnel. Reds fans there, too. Absolutely absolutely I like it. All right, but I appreciate a year coming up with some great idea, thank you. Thanks for the kind words for checking in all right Let's do this eight o'clock hour. Maybe a little bit little bit more on this, but I was asked I said last week. I I love when I get asked questions I can turn into a show topic, and now I'm blanking on what the question! No I just can't think of what it was last week that jumped turned into a pretty good topic, and it was from a listener. Oh, it was the listener who would ask you joy. Vodka was the most criticized star in Cincinnati sports history well, I got this last week from Tom Nagel and Tom sent me an email and simply ask. Do you think Paul O'Neill's ever GonNa make the Reds Hall of fame. And I'll be honest. My first reaction was I had to google to make sure he wasn't in the Reds Hall of fame. I thought Oh is Paul. O'Neil in the Reds Hall of Famer not on the reds. Hall, of Fame, the answer is he's not in the Reds Hall of fame. Here's my question that I'll pass on from Tom to you. And I have you given it I? Don't know how big a like a thought process has been involved in. This is Paul O'Neil worthy of being in the Reds Hall of fame someday. That in some more to get to after the top of the Arabic News, and then we'll rock and roll for the final hour before. Rachel is in at nine. o'clock it's Oh phone number, five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one and pound seven hundred on at and T., it's arnold carriers sportstalk presented by kill Chevrolet on seven hundred wwl, W. Rachel's Infra Gary Jeff Walker he will take you nine to midnight. You know, the more I think about the foul ball idea. The more areas I think there are to expand this. From, a standpoint of connecting kids to the reds. Through not hole in little league reached out to area coaches, and said have each year your kids on your roster where the season or not send in a postcard or a note and we will enter them in the lottery. Know be like that the reds not hold baseball foul ball home, run ball lottery. That's a long name, but you get the idea where you didn't put kids. You get kids to watch and listen and. Hear their name and as its draw. You could do it that way. You could add all the kid the little league and not whole teams in Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky put them into one big hopper, and for each game pull out X. number one every three innings and say tonight's. Little League Baseball Foul Ball Game. Is and you'd read the player's name in the team he plays for and the next foul ball is his and we'll get it signed by that player. I think there's possibilities there. This question came from Tom Nagel last week. I love questions like this, i. When he asked the question was. Should, follow Neil. Do you know he said? Do you ever you think Paul O'Neil ever be in the Reds Hall of fame? And before I answered it. WHO's by email? I Will Paul O'Neil. Reds Hall of fame, is he? Is he in or is not in the Reds Hall of fame, and he's not and then I started thinking. Should he be? And! The more I think about that I I'm trying to think of moments when I say Paulo I clearly. Polo Neal's career was defined by his time with the keys. As a red I, think of the throw. He made the gun down Bobby Baena. I think his inability to hit left-handers. And I think his clashes with Paul with Lou Pinella. I there's not not not to be mean I, don't I don't think of Paul O'Neil, moments in terms of Reds Hall of Famer. Paula Neil played eight years with the reds he wanNA wring. His career batting average with the reds was to fifty nine is on base. Three, thirty six is PS. Seven, sixty, seven, which is. easiest. Easiest example of him relative the baseball, he's opiates plus one hundred and eleven meaning. He was eleven percent better than the league when he played for the rats. Is, someone who's eleven. percent had been league when they're playing for the reds, worthy of being reds hall of Famer, career for the reds, Ninety six home runs four hundred eleven. RBI's I mean the reality to me, is he? Would he was a Yankee? Any had to really good years with the reds. In Eighty, nine and ninety one those words to best years. The most home runs he hit in a season with the reg was twenty eight. The most runs drove in was ninety one. He was an all star one time he got. MVP votes one time in the eight years. He finished nineteenth in the MVP voting. In the nineteen. Was The nineteen ninety season. Now I've heard this a lot since I posed this over the weekend on my facebook page well, if fill in the blank is in, then he should be in I heard a lot of days. If Ron oester is in Paul, O'Neil should be it. I heard Dan. driessen is in Paulo Neil should be. I heard how Moore's is in Paul. O'Neil should be I. Don't know that means and I. I've never approached. Player X. Y. or Z. should be in because player ABC is in. I just when I think of Paulo. Neil think Yankees and I think Seinfeld a Seinfeld episode. I don't think reds greatness. Agree or disagree five lines open, five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, big one and pounds, seven hundred on at and T. eight years fourth round pick does have a ring I. I'm not I'm not besmirching. The name of politia had a hell of a career. It's just the most of that. elva career was as a Yankee. I mean look look at his career numbers and what Paul O'Neil wound up doing for a career, twenty one hundred hits, two hundred and eighty one homers, four, hundred and fifty one doubles. He won two batting titles. His opium for his career is one twenty four his career. He was twenty percent better than the league when he played. I just don't think as time with the reds is being worthy. Of the Reds Hall of fame. Take some calls on that. As well, but Tom Thank you for the the question and I have laid out to to my audience at five win, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big pounds, seven, hundred on at and T. let me run through the headlines If you missed them off the top couple of notes of interest today, the reds have exercised dietrich rather has exercised an out in his contract. He was, he asked for and received his release, so he's removed from the sixty man player pool and his I. Understand that once you removed from it. You're not allowed to go back into it, so the rights could not resign him no matter what happens nick. Cassiano said today. He's ready. He got hit by Tyler Molly fast ball in the back and miss the weekend series, but it just wasn't be one thing if you saw it. Oh Man, I don't know that I've ever seen somebody hidden in that spot. I think is hitting the backs like square between the numbers or unlike the fleshy part. His was hit. If you reach behind your back at the base of your neck, were that not is rate Dick. He got hit right on that and he said today on the zoom call when he dropped to the ground, he couldn't feel his arms I mean that's scary stuff. Not that don't believe in what he said today on the zoom call. I'm good to go. I'd like to see it. Because when you saw him go down, you thought well. That probably hurt square in the back. And then you hear him on that spot right there at your spine rate. I mean the damage that that could have done. And he didn't play because he couldn't get it loose, but said said he's good today. They didn't do any. Real baseball activities today. We'll see if he gets at bats tomorrow night, but that. Man Tomorrow, night the play the first back to back Games for exhibition games. Paul O'Neill had a hell of a career. You want a batting title. One five rings four with the Yankees One with the red was a five time. All Star with the Yankees won with the reds. He played in three perfect games on the winning side of all three perfect games, the only player in history baseball to able to say that George Steinbrenner loved him referred to him as a warrior and Yankee fans would say would tell you. He was part of the heart and soul of those Yankee teams the Yankee. There's a plaque and monument park for Paul O'Neill i. just don't think of him as a reds great and I've I've also always thought there was some. Some lingering. Don't want to say this. A frosty. Frosty relationship almost between the reds and. For whatever reason because he's never been one. How many times is Paul Neil been back for various events surrounding the ninety reds or other I remember one, but I also seem to remember being told the A. There's no chance. Paul's coming back for that so there there's something there friction wise from that standpoint I just I thought it was a great question by Tom so great I had to look up because I thought well. Maybe he's already going to remember, but upon further review I think Paul. O'Neil is a reds hall of Famer. Certainly agee all of famer he's got A. He's got a plaque. Plaques in Monument Park in in Yankee Stadium self-loading. We go then we're to sportstalk. Atlanta Chad. Yeah, well, you've pretty much my thunder, he. He's not a red famer. I know read. Fans don't want to hear that. He's the Yankees you look at his stats compared to the two teams, he's almost doubled in everything as a Yankee. Yes, he played one more season. The obviously had four rings. Of course. The teams are obviously way better looking. He had four straight years Yankee. Hunter plus. He never reached hundred once with the Reds I. Don't believe it I don't know people say well. This guy made it he should be in. That doesn't matter. It's it is what it is. You're right on this. He should be the Yankees all famer. I don't think he should be a Red Shawl famer. That I mean. If you look at the stats, it's almost night and day. I appreciate golf. Thank you and you know the argument. Is that I mean it's not an argument. He blossomed when he left here and the funny thing is when he left, there were some who thought man. Paulo Neil in New York, city, and the media and the fans. They're gonNA. Eat Him alive. And, it was exactly the opposite. He blossomed confidence grew. He hit lefties. He did everything. They love the Guy Legend in New York. self-loading! Is On sports. Talk I'm at. Her fellow. Oil thanks for calling good. I'm born and raised here in Dayton and I remember on the old every young as a young boy. I but I definitely run them more of a Yankee and going and gone back on the line for. The craft. Did you hear Kramer had promising to. Could you that's right. Thank you for the Call I. The other thing I think Paul. O'Neil with the reds is kicking the relay. Throw in from the outfield. So I think the fact, he he had a temper I. think the fact. He clashed with Lou I. Think the fact that he couldn't hit left these here. He had a canon for an arm and hand, and like conic throat a gun down. Bobby Baena but the rest of it other than the kick back into the infield on the really the rest of it was the blossoming and maturation Apollo Neil as a Yankee. They took him to heights where he soared as a player. Looking at sixty seven percent voting on twitter say Paul. O'Neil should be in the reds hall of fame. I posted that on twitter. ATLANTA mcallister twitter feed presented by barley orange. Thanks, barley corns sick to every three. Okay, so, what am I missing to it? Every three say he should be in the reds hall of fame. Let me go sell Phony Mike Welcome sportstalk. Friend. Thanks for calling. You're welcome. just a really quick point. I thank the Reds Hall of fame should identify with a small market baseball team. I'll give you. A couple of names. Adam resolves. I understand the numbers earn their but. sparky lit. I think he's got the record for the fastest homerun dot. Cincinnati they contributed. I mean he was a fan. Favorite Question Oh. Yeah, yeah, I think from that standpoint I think a Ryan freeways well people love the the hustle and the appreciation for putting on the reds uniform. Absolutely I love Ryan Frill. Think small-market cities. We're get these terrorists for like the starburst right. Then go on somewhere else. They make more money like in New York. And you know there you go now. Maybe an honorable mention wing for like you know guys like. I don't know move. That's a little bit I will look into it. Mike thanks buddy. Good hearing from you all right, let's do this. The bluejays are trying to find a ballpark to play. Because candidate government barred them from playing their home stadium amid the coronavirus pandemic, the quote from an official said Canada has been able to flatten the curve in large part because of the sacrifices, Canadians made we. We understand professional sports were important to the economy and to Canadians at the same time our government will continue to take decisions at the border on the basis of the advice of our health experts in order to protect the health and safety of all Canadians, so the Blue Jays can't play at their home stadium. Travel out and come back and teams can't travel in and then leave, so they need to stadium season starts on Friday. They've considered their training facility in Dunedin Florida, which is like the best of spots to be heading right now based on. The that's a hotspot. They've considered Buffalo. A Minor League ballpark. which is there AAA home, but it's kind of a sub standard that the lights. The lighting structures aren't great. The club houses aren't really big enough and conducive to social distancing. Weight Room batting. Cages Kinda Sub-standard I. It's just in Major, League. Baseball is worried about the competitive this advantage they they already are going to be at not being able to play home. Do they want to have them in a place where the the setup is not? Up to major league standards or enough now give their general manager credited their President Mark Shapiro, and their players have come out and said all the right things to this point. You know we're. We're going to make this work. Wherever we wind up. The pirates jumped in today and said we will host you at PNC park. Now. That's great. I on the surface, the pirates aren't away all the time I mean there. There's going to be I think there were seven days where they both would play at PNC based on their home schedules, so I don't know if that would be a a noon. Blue Jays game followed by seven o'clock pirates, game or something like that, but you'd have to work that out, but there's only the thirty. There's only seven of them that would be a crossover that both play on the same day, but think about this. The season starts on Friday and there are thirty Toronto Blue Jay players who are going to have to figure out where they are going to live starting on Friday for the next sixty six days. Whether, it's themselves whether it's their wife whether it's their wife and kids and the their stuff, their stuff has to get from where they are in Toronto to some other place. That's either in a permanent a condo home the renting. That's by frighten out of the not the end of next month. That's on Friday. They need a place to play and donate a place to live. and. That has not been figured out at this point, but how about the Toronto Blue Jays playing in Pittsburgh at PNC park in and around the pirates schedule all right back to the phones about cell phone and we go. Michael Welcome to sportstalk. Loria what do you make of all this? Year. The Canadian for could've give the bluejays a little bit more heads up on that. Yeah I the Blue Jays. We're waiting thinking like a last minute reprieve and the conditions would be better, but that has not happened. So, what do you think about this foul ball idea? I will see your sellable and I will raise one yeah. Okay. Do you remember and I don't know thread. Still do the throughout, but you remember the like the skyline step of the Mike thing to do you have a kid at the start of the inning would announced. Who's The leadoff batter? Yeah. Okay. Why not have like like literally guys? That during any and then fell about all. They get that by ball. will be I mean the kids can't be in the perks how they're going to make the announcement Berko Berkeley. I see what you're saying. We could, even in theory have them record? You can have a bunch of them. Already in storage like different players doing each kid gets a different name I. See that yeah, you could, you could punch that up on the scoreboard, and it could be Johnny from Madeira, who now batting for the Cincinnati reds, the first Baseman Joey Votto, or you could even have his team literally team standing behind the kid cheering once he announces his name. I mean that's what I was thinking. What you maybe prerecord, yeah? ooh, bad yeah. To wear, the kid would say now. Betty the first baseman. Rod and then real quick on the Pollen Neil saying yeah, I think Neil more of as a Yankee red. Yeah. I agree with you. I think his and again. He wasn't I'm certainly not saying. He was bad as he was, he was. Decent to good as a red. He was great as a Yankee and I. Just I think as a Yankee Hall of Famer so? On your empty animosity between him and there is the way he was treated by giving Boden and the trade. Maybe may maybe there's probably a couple of layers to all of that. Michael I gotta run. Thanks, Buddy. Good here, no good hearing from me, Matthews Sale and now he's on seven hundred wwl W, A. Good how are you? Hey now to. This piggybacking off of your idea basically but. Masa is, makes this poor hands on for the kids and yeah. Basically you have your idea where you can still bid on the foul balls, okay? But with how kids are today? Electric I'm thinking. Create an APP for the kids. To where they can log into their half, and you see their active. and. They're actively watching the game. They're checked and maybe your percentage to our ten percent of. You know everybody to twenty percent for KS eighty percent for your business. And then that kid wins the foul fall in what you could also do. Ten Kids my South Ball. They could have Indiana where they submit their videos. Still saying hey. My son, for instance go. Hey, my name's Eli. I like. Joey votto foul ball, maybe pretty cool I like that because what we're doing years. The reason I thought of this to begin with I just watched the ball just kinda trickled down the stands over the weekend with nobody there and I thought man that experience will be missed this year. And then I said so we we gotta be able to do something to tie in the reds with kids and raising money for the reds community, Fund and I just think. Is You know in? In a typical real in a typical game, the reds, you're never going to get that ball back with fans in the San Suu in this case, take advantage of the fact all those foul balls will come back to you. Hand them out in some way shape or form you put smiles on. Kids faces, and in some parts of it. Raise money for your community. I think everybody would be happy. Apples and I I. Love You I love your angle of the APP and tying in with a connecting to the game, watching the game listening to the game, and if you're doing that, we're going to reward you with an opportunity for a foul ball from that game. You are watching. That's a win. Win Getting kids watching baseball absolutely, and you can have a banners on on top of the screen for your safety I'd say bike from so and so just want us out ball, and then right before you cut to a commercial, you can have a video of child thing. there. I I like it Matthew. My thought it'd be cool if it went if they do something for all of them. That'll be to where you could actively have something forever. Yes, a network connection between kids and the game. Absolutely. Yeah, thanks, Matthew I mean he makes a great point. I mean they should be league wide thing because every ballpark is going to have how many somebody look up the average number of foul balls hitting the game into the stands that now we're going back to the teams. Turned into something I. Don't WanNa. Say profitable. Yeah, turn it into something profitable in terms of growing young fans Finley. We go John Welcome to sports talk. Day Lance how you doing good. What do you think about Paul O'Neil? Hall of fame for the reds are not. That's a that's A. that's such an interesting topic. Because there'e right off the top you think about all, said well. Yeah, why not, but then you back and He really didn't do that much with them. He had like you said he was okay with the Reds I. Think even by a good chunk of his career. He was kind of a platoon guy. Yeah, yeah, for the reds and yeah, he. He did pretty much everything actor after his days in in Cincinnati Fars on the major league level. Him. He hadn't tapped into things while he was here. It clicked for him once he left and Kudos to him I just don't think hall of Famer for a franchise. It never really kicked into gear for Ya. Absolutely and and obviously like you said with him a kick from right field. Remember him that and you know the guy that I kinda I kinda run a little bit parallel to him. Although all had a lot better career with the reds in this guy did was member Edwin Encarnacion yes. Yes. He was with the reds. It was like we couldn't get rid of him fast enough and actually the Blue Jays I. Think released him. Then when he got when he went back to them, it's like the light switch went often that guy. What's he have like three or four hundred career home runs him over four hundred. Not He had a phenomenal career after. Cincinnati, but like. His is number. Block better, but yeah. And then just one quick quick. It's art for me. It's hard for me to believe that that blue. Open. John I lost you we'll. We'll pick up the blue jays thing tomorrow night, but you were in and out of that I lost. We'll head down the stretch. Squeeze in on this date and our things up on. Sports, presented by Kill C.. The Reds Trade Michael Tucker to the cubs for Chris Booker and Ben, Shaffer and the reds recalled first. Baseman DT cromer. All of that happening on this date in reds history, the weird thing is. I know exactly where I was on this date. Two Thousand and one when the reds traded Michael, Tucker for those two cubs, players I was doing a remote broadcast from Dave and buster's and try county, and why remember I just remember think I was on the scene at Dave and buster's. The news broke just before I went on the Air I. Remember scrambling to figure out. Out What it could find about Chris Booker and Ben Schaefer a couple of cubs prospects of that time. Who didn't do anything with the reds that I recall, but I do recall DT cromer became a fan favourite for the rights. He came up and I WANNA. Say put up some decent numbers for in a relatively short amount of time for a short length of time in. Reds fans love, but I remember where I was on this date doing a remote broadcast. Dave and buster's all right I wish. I had more time I. don't I gotTa get Outta here. There's going to be no minor league baseball this year. they have no source of revenue stream, no income, so they have listed Pensacola Blue Wa. Who Stadium which I have not been there, but I've seen. The photos is a gorgeous facility. They have listed that on Airbnb. You and your friends can rent the stadium and I'll ask Jonathan Griffith, if it's for just one night or multiple nights, and for lack of a better word have the run of the place. To do what you want, baseball wise including. there. And I gotTa tell you. It's a pretty sweet setup and from audio understand. The response has been off the shirts. They are also getting creative and working on a couple of other ideas that they've implemented bubba Watson's one of the What are the owners on the Pert Nur's in the the organization? He has created. That's a chance for fans to experience the most intimate behind the scenes ballpark experience in history that courtesy, the double a affiliate of the Minnesota twins that would be the pensacola blue. Who's it is gorgeous stadium for more on that the idea behind it and the execution of the plan. Welcome in their president. That would be Jonathan Griffith Jonathan Lance McAlister. How are you? Great doing great down here. Glad to be on here tonight, tell us on. How did this one I love the idea? How did the idea come about? You know it's one of those things in minor league baseball like everybody else. We haven't had any business as far as the baseball. Though so we're always throwing out ideas. And actually we were the owner and his daughter. We were sitting in the office. There's filling out ideas and randomly here. AIRBNB came up and it was like will. Yes, we can run with this and we just started running with. It happened about three weeks ago and you know with everything being on true lockdown we were. Planning for eventually we will open up and once we open up. What can we do and this was one the idea that we came up with? And it's been going well. What is the cost per night to rent the stadium? We charge fifteen hundred dollars for ten people to be able to sleep in the clubhouse. You battling cage, and of course the field as well one of the great things we have as well as a lot of upgrades that you're able to have their. You can have a fireworks show. You could have a movie night. You can have a up just like you know. The big leaguers with the cage and everything else to and then, of course we have a chef on staff, which is pretty unique for us as well so you can have any meal that you would like there in the clubhouse we've actually already had. We also run bu-but, sweet spot, the candy store and ice cream shop, and we actually have an ice cream bar for the first weekend, so it's really exciting for the people to get to use the ballpark. Ballpark and of course for us, you know the big thing is meeting on mission to improve the quality of life community, and and being able to let people have that ability to come there for pretty affordable price and get to be in in the stadium and of course jobs, you know that that's key, and making sure that we're able to employ people and and able to have jobs at the Blue Office, Jonathan? What's the response been since these nights became available? Pretty Amazing not only immediate pension wise. We've been literally worldwide. We were Japan. Canada. But. We we sold out our first thirty three nights within twenty four. We've actually. Stopped reservations because of the fact that we don't know if we'll have based on July and August and show them we'll be starting in the fall, and then fortunately unfortunately have a a college football team plays here as well University of West Florida, said we're kind of working around everything to make sure that we don't have football, players or baseball player dinner, wife and my son sleep, so it's It's a juggling act because it was one. An idea that we thought we thought it would go well. When quite sort of this? Well now there's actually other teams already are popping up there Airbnb, which is great. That's what we wanted you know help. Drive revenue in in all of us are looking for ideas, major league minor league I mean. Could you imagine being in Cincinnati and getting? More can be able to do that. It'd be unbelievable. Jonathan I wondered not not. Everybody's probably told you, but do you get a sense for what type of groups are using these nights? Is it, is it? Is it business people. Is it boy scouts? What do you have any sense for? The type of groups that are that are running this out? All the above had having your birthday. Parties Have Bachelorette parties. Could you imagine Bassa thirty out here? And we have you know, and then also some businesses are going. You know some networking. Kinda, you know team building type. but yeah, so it's really been all over the place and had just families families that. With other families going, hey, instead of sitting neighborhood, it or houses, let's go over there and hang out so we're getting people right now. In the first thirty three days. We have people from really all over the south. East and even New York. We've had a couple of rentals from New York City to that area. So you mentioned obviously you. Can you sleep at the ballpark? Where do you sleep? I think the first is what you sleep on the dugout bench. Where do you end up sleeping at the ballpark? Three weeks to is coming up with bed. And Linens and things like that because you know normally, we have thirty three thirty four guys in there all the time, and normally they're not sleeping unless they sleep on the couch of crashing Kinda. Thing we did have to go do that. We're actually GONNA expanded are visiting clubhouse now as well? Just because you know the the needed, there you know people are GonNa. Do it and you know one of the things airbnb couldn't believe was how fast we filled up. We've just had a conference call with them in like. We're not sure how to help you. Great job. Really a good thing. Oh Man, how How how are you? Can you only book it for one night or can you do multiple nights? Multiple those folks from New York I was talking about actually did it for ten nights. They got ten ten straight days at bill. Be at the Ballpark I'll be seeing him every morning at work. My work at home now, which is pretty fun, so we'll be a an interesting thing to have people out there and I'm really excited to see what kind of things people come up with what this either. With having a personal chef on site you know some of the meals that were able to do. Obviously being down here on the water, a lot seafood type thing, but we're really interesting how they can push his call Mary skills as well what? Do Is there any I. Much rain. You get this time of year. Is there any type of rain out policy or if it rains just do stuff indoors like batting cages and other stuff? Unfortunately we have indoor clubhouse and indoor cage. With the outside of the it'll be just rain or shine sure Obviously you know, and the does bring a lot here in Florida. We weren't a drought there for a while, but we finally get rained so but yeah, they'll just have to adjust their schedule and the just around it We're also working with them because we're also doing other advanced to save like this Saturday we have a movie, night and fireworks at night, so it's GonNa. Be Kind of A. They didn't have to pay extra. You're part of this kind of thing so so it's GonNa. Be a unique situation and you know we're working with everybody and so far it's been great, you know we're really excited about it. And the big thing is just being able to keep more and more people employees. You know during this time as everybody else you know. We're reading everywhere that everybody's laying off. Everybody's on those types of things and we're just trying to do as much as possible to keep people working. Do you have during the course of their time? Do you have like a Chaperon or someone there to answer questions or keep an eye out? We do we call them a concierge. And they will be spending the night as well they actually use the umpire clubhouse we have. That set is a bedroom for them. So that way, they have that contact with them if they need anything if they want any upgrades during the time that they're saying there weren't they just simply have a question of where to go. We'll have that person. There to be able to help them out and guide them anywhere. They need to be I. Love this man this. It's a really cool idea. I'm so glad we could hook up I. Apologize For the mix up on the different time zones, but I'm glad we could do this and and congrats on this and best of luck with going forward. Absolutely, we're happy. Understand this one you see Chris has done the math for me I. I'm Lucky to walk and talk and at the same time. Don't ask me to do math while I'm talking about thirty three nights at fifteen hundred dollars. That's forty nine thousand five hundred dollars for an organization in Minor League, Baseball. That has no baseball this year. Will likely not play all, but certainly not play baseball. They've created forty nine, forty, nine, thousand five hundred dollars in the opportunity for those to work, but this idea. Consider. What comes with it? Can you imagine if great American Ballpark did this? Great Ballpark this and the off season. You could do it I would think. March, maybe prior to while the team is in in goodyear. You could do it once the reds are finished winning the world series may be for a bit into the off season I think you. Your price would be more than fifteen. Hundred would be a reasonable expectation. You're going from a minor league facility to great American Ballpark, but think of the things you could do. If you've ever taken a tour of great American Ballpark, you are aware. Aware of the cool things inside and around that stadium. Imagine your friends of your friends for over one hundred and fifty bucks for the night to play baseball unintended imagine them turning on the lights at night at great American ballpark and putting up on the video board your lineups for your buddies that night as you play a game or hitting the cages here, my five choices in addition to great American ballpark. I would pick fenway park. One I want to go in the Green Monster. To. Can you imagine walking around? Just the aura of that put never been to fenway. Can you imagine being able to rent out fenway? Can you imagine what the Waiting List would be? If they ever offered ever offered up fenway park on Airbnb for the night I do Wrigley Field. Or get inside that scoreboard and to walk around that history. I would do ankle field house. And I would in the middle of the night I sit up and I just yell Hickory Hickory. A and I would listen for the ghost of bulldog past the the movement of bulldogs passed in I would hear in the background, the swishing of the net from bulldogs who have gone before in the history of Butler basketball I would do and big day would have to appreciate this I do. Wimbledon, can you imagine? Can You Imagine Centre Court at Wimbledon? For Twenty four hours just played a little tennis. I don't care I'm putting it on AIRBNB. This is my topic and I'm listening Wimbledon on AIRBNB. It might be ten thousand dollars. You might be one hundred thousand dollars a night, but can you imagine twenty four hours to have your run of the place at Wimbledon Centre Court? I would do Augusta National. Can you imagine for Gophers to the day? Get up early. Play around a golf finish. Have Lunch. Go back out and play another eighteen have dinner and then just go out and like putt around. And, I would add one more. I would add a Jerry world at and T. Stadium in Arlington The Dallas Cowboys home that place is spectacular. Can you imagine what would be like to have access to that place for a twenty four hour period? So those are my what one, two, three, four, five six. I'd toss in great American ballpark seven. I probably Wenbley Stadium, and make that eight on the list thirty three nights, and it's sold out and I think he said, said something about what. What is the level of football team that I? CanNot off at thirty three nights, because at at some point theories, a football that would not be A. I'm thinking it's not like flag football, or what type of football would be played her, did he say? Did he say a college like division? Three Type College uses their stadium is a football facility often looked at. University of West Florida, so they converted for football. That would be one time one time a week. Obviously, so you work around that I love this this is this is genius. Stuff we come back. If you're an NFL guy, I've got a proposal for you. The owners are going to vote on tomorrow. I would like for you to vote on it next. This is the NFL. Whenever I bring something like this up I. Get pushback. People say well. They just leaves the sports load. Why are they always changing the sport? The NFL has looked and said you know what. It's almost impossible to recover an onside kick anymore. And that means it's almost impossible to make a comeback from that standpoint, so what if we offered a fourth and fifteen play for a team after they scored? Four fourth. Fifteen from own twenty five. And if they go for it and converted, they keep the football. If they go forward and get stopped. The other team takes over possession. The NFL is voting on that very rule tomorrow we will discuss as we continue. It is seven forty five. It's Arnaud Carrier sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet seven hundred WWL W. South. That vault was outstanding like what if I closed the door? Very cool place. Thanks for having me out today. Guy So if you're an NFL guy or Gal. Let's let's get into this maybe for another segment or so because it's going to be voted on. Tomorrow I thought about waiting until tomorrow's vote, but I said well. What Fun is that? We're GONNA. Know what the NFL decides to do with it. I'd rather get your input on what they should do it when they vote tomorrow. They're going to hold a virtual meeting. And Vote It requires twenty four of thirty two owners voting thumbs up. And the sense is the fact that it got. Is Momentum is growing for this proposal. It is an alternate to the onside kick. What changes have taken place with the onside kick in recent years, and the they don't want the collisions safety issue, so they changed the rules that have made it increasingly difficult to recover an onside. Kick I think in the last two years. The recovery has been about ten percent. Although when last we saw the Bengals, what in the dolphins game? They recovered an onside kick, but that was the first one in like years, so it's going into the retrieval rate. Recovery rate is about ten percent, so the league said man that's. Not, allowing a whole lot of opportunities for comebacks, so the Denver Broncos I think it was. The Eagles had submitted this a year ago. It was tabled. They said we're not gonNA. Put it up for a vote now. Everybody saw things playoff for a year and they sit all right. Let's put it up for vote. Here's what would happen. After a team that is trailing scores. You have an opportunity to maintain possession of the ball by going for it. On fourth and fifteen from your own twenty five yard line. It's an untimely down just like a point after they placed the football at twenty five year offense onto the field if you convert the first down fourth and fifteen if you convert it. You just keep going. It's your possession. If you are stopped. Well so much for your comeback. The other team takes over the football wherever they stop you. If they sack you back at the fifteen, they get the ball on your fifteen yard line if they'd pick it off and running in for a touchdown, what if you fall short of the first down? The other team gets the ball. They have tweet this in the last twenty four hours by the way I have every line open, five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred on at and T. I'm looking for one NFL person on this. They have tweaked it in the last twenty four hours. You can only use it in regulation. You can only use it twice during a game. If you declare your using it and change your mind. You have to call a timeout. Otherwise once you tell the officials were fourth. We're going for it. You can't change your mind. If you don't have any time. You're stuck you. You GotTa do it. The tweaks in the last twenty four hours or a little bit interesting thought as maybe that'll 'cause. Everybody's add too many moving parts here. We're not going to vote for this, but initially the the clock was going to start on the snap. But that would give a team that that takes a lead with a few seconds left a chance to do this in just run out the clock. If you say you scored, took the lead with three seconds left on the clock. Rather than risk kicking off and having them return it or something crazy happening, you could just take snap. Have Your quarterback dropped back and like heave it down the field and let the clock run out, and they said well. That's not gonNA work, so we'll make it an untimely down. which if you think about it? That makes it more exciting regardless of WHO's winning. It prevents leading teams from music to run out the clock. It gives the trailing teams more time, tomato, COMEBACK Under the the the colonel, the team that had scored a touchdown to make it a one possession game with one second left on the clock. Their chance would have run out. With one more play. Now, they'll get it as an untimely down to take their shot. Twenty, four of thirty two owners have to vote thumbs up. I'd love it. One I love being different. I love this is. Kind of an XFL alliance of American football feel to it, this isn't. Usually the NFL will fold its arms and say we are superior to any other league. We're not GONNA do a gimmicks or anything like this and I. I wouldn't even call a gimmick I would call it creating more of an opportunity for excitement in your league. If you're doing something that works only ten percent of the time. And you can increase the odds of something happening. That is much more exciting and I think I saw. If you go back, take the sample size was like the last four hundred fifty times. A team had gone for it on fourth and fifteen. I want to say the conversion rate was around nineteen percent. So you know most be doubling it. You wouldn't watch that on TV. Let's go to the phones, but I would go. What did you say bill? BLANCE I know a couple of people you know. I Have Scott Grade. Teacher of Ben Davis. Yes my one of my mentors at Karma high-school W H J E radio F- wbz Jay I. Ask that man. He really meant a lot to me Susan yes. I also went to college with your buddy. Power all my roommate in college all the stories I could tell. Yeah. Well we could take. This is a terrible terrible. Tell me why I mean. Tell you why. Take away the element of surprise, look back at the Super Bowl between the saints and the Colts, when the Saints Lot off the second half with an outside cat and recovered. Takes that away. It's a terrible idea because you're not gonna be able to surprise anybody. What if they light up and I don't know what the complete rules are. Kicking off lineup at their own twenty five. T totally takes a new. Turn on the game. It doesn't helping I mean the the the way. The saints have the colts. Keep in mind. Keep in mind that was prior to the changes. That's what the League is reacting to. Because of safety precautions, they changed the rule on the onside kick, and how you line up and how you head, and now it's down to ten percent. So that's saints play maybe doesn't even work back then because the rules are different now. Maybe, it doesn't, but it still takes away the element of surprise. I am registering you as a no voter. The man, thanks good hearing for Scott Greg O. Scott. Greg and Tom Shoulder my radio mentors look at that poll. Question I wave on twitter. Fifty six percent say they are in favor of the rule. Being approved tomorrow, owners will vote on a online virtual meeting tomorrow. Thumbs Up, thumbs down the twenty four, thirty, two for it to pass the fourth and fifteen proposal all right. Nights at the stadium. They're not going to have minor league baseball this year Pensacola Blue Wa, who's looking for a money making opportunity have certainly cashed in and cashed in big time. We talked with our president I love. The idea of one of their owners extended an invite on twitter to to join him, so maybe maybe this road trip and we do sports talk from Liuhua Oahu, stadium, and we we just play a little baseball for a day in Pensacola. Alibi people talk with his people, but it was a fun opening segment second segment of the show with the proposal that they are rocket right? Now I get I love to slide AIRBNB total after a day well. We're not sure how we can help you, but wait to go. Thirty three days sold in less than twenty four hours right here. Let's do this maybe for a few more minutes and then. I don't want to get too far behind, but I want to introduce our next topic here in a second, but on the board and my my thought was offered this before. The owners get their hands on it to get a sense for what you would do with the rule. The NFL owners are voting tomorrow eight proposal. It's the alternative to the onside kick. And it is offering the opportunity when somebody scores whose trail instead of the low odds a recurring onside kick. They are offering the alternative choice of taking over four and fifteen from your own twenty five yard, line. Instead of kicking. You've scored. You've pulled within six with. A minute ago. I, we're GONNA choose the on the. We're going to choose the fourth and fifteen, so you send your offense out. Snap from the twenty five yard line. It's an untimely down just like a point after fourth and fifteen. You do what you want. Drawback to pass, run it. If you get stopped short year, try has done, and the other team takes over on that spot. If you converted. It's your possession. You keep going until you can't convert the next fourth doubt if you score on it, it's a touchdown. Their recovery rate an onside kicks over the last three years has been ten point five percent. Because they've had to change the rules because of concussions and safety issues, and they're not going to change your back, so the onside kick is never going to get better from that standpoint. So. What was W- proposed a year ago, and then tabled has been re proposed, and now we'll be put is that a word will be put to a vote tomorrow by the owners? Can only happen in regulation. You can only do it twice. Untimely down. What would be what's the? What's the downside to it? I know I use the word I'm getting a lot on twitter. It's a gimmick was okay. So what's wrong with the Gimmick? Would you rather watch something that works once every ten times to the point that. Teams don't even try it. Or, can you imagine? scooting up on the edge of your seat in the stadium or standing up in your living room. With Joe Borough, coming to the line of scrimmage there gopher there they're going for the fourth and fifteen. or or Patrick hopes. Come to the line coming from the sidelines off the field here we go. Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. Fourth, fifteen brace yourself. The chiefs have passed up the onside kick. They're going for it. Isn't that what? That's exactly what I just described is exactly why the NFL is proposing it? To create bad level of excitement versus. One every ten chances. The onside kick working would fun is that. Go to the phones. Harrison is our stop. Willie. You're on seven hundred W W. I think man I am four it only if they can do another huddle after the field goal. Because It would be hilarious to watch a potential sixteen point weighing in a matter of seconds, Zeke, you can score a touchdown go for to. Go right back into the field of play. Get the ball back in score potentially another eight points. And it had a lot more pressure in value to those special teamers, because you would have to see your long snapper, go right into being a true center debt, but that's not the, but that's not the proposal I mean that's. Tomorrow but Gimmicky I wanted to further okay so. Would Vote No, then because that's not the proposal. Well. Can we make a little bit more? WHOA. Thank you for the call, but we're not. We're not creating a rule. I'm asking you how the owner should vote tomorrow on the rule. There's a presentations already been made there. There's no more tweaking. They'll meet on zoom tomorrow, and yes, or no, it's not let's send the kicker out. Who has to play quarterback on special teams, so do we like the proposal? As is to vote yes, or are we voting? No. John is on seven hundred wwl W Asia. What's going on? Tell me. I don't know for that I just I don't. I don't like Emeksiz stuff and I just. For some reason, it seems like a lot of these rules have more to do with keeping fans interested in games rather than rewarding team that that's actually put the the three quarter three and a half quarters into win a ball game. It's kind of like the the NBA. The time out rule where they they moved the ball up to half court, and then it's like. A to me I don't like I don't like changing the game that way and and giving teams. More chances to win at the end. I think has more of a thing to do with fan emphasis, it is for we'll talk. Or All sports geared to if if the sports don't have the fans interest, what is what's the success rate of the sport? Well and I guess that's probably my first question out of the gate is. Are we making rules for fan, interest or it make rules or competition of the game, and I think the answer would be I think the answer would be both because this rule would create more fan interest, and it would create an opportunity for a comeback in the football game. Rather than something succeeds ten percent of the time they're saying. Let's give them the option for something that might succeed or percentage of say will. More often, but not overwhelmingly. I I. Like I said I. Don't like. Gimmick swear you you you. You reward teams for coming from behind in situations like that will. Fourth and fifteen. Wouldn't the argument be if you can't stop somebody on a fourth and fifteen? You don't deserve to keep your late anyway. I, mean talk about inches. We're talking about fourth and a first down and a half. Well if if we have, but we know in today's football with passing games, pass interference calls and stuff fourth and fifteen in in footballs been the football, world and twenty twenty is very makeable. It really is and I. I would rather if I. IF I'm the team-leading I would rather have the other team. Doing onside kicks and give them a chance. John I, lost you break up, but I'll register that as no what I find interesting. I think I've lost track of I. Think all the calls have said No. The twitter vote is running almost fifty seven percent. Yes wonder what would be the difference. I think it's one hundred percent. No on the calls in fifty seven percent. Yes, on twitter when we come back Anthony. Castro has put together a list. A baseball I love listening and I love baseball and it's it's an Ode to. He's written a book about Sabermetrics that I bought and It was delivered to the House yesterday. I can't wait to read, but he put together a list last week for MLB DOT, com about great team, nicknames and units in the history of baseball. As he wrote sometimes a team developed such a a personality or occupy such particular place in the public's consciousness that it's given name alone won't do it. There's something about the style team. The personality of the team that leads to a nickname a branding of that team. He listed the top twenty five in the history of baseball number one on his list. The big red machine, the seventies reds he writes as good as it gets, both as a team, and as a nickname it stands as the most magnificent moniker ever bestowed a ball club number two in his list. Murderers row twenty seven Yankees number three. The Miracle Mets Sixty nine the idiots, the Red Sox, two thousand four Terry. Francona said he has guys were borderline nuts They overcame the eighty six year drought. Download three and a series Harvey's Wall bangers number five on the list, the eighty two brewers that team led the The majors home runs with two hundred and sixteen. That would have been. Like. Thomas and Paul Molitor and Robin Yount and Ben Ogilvy and Charlie Moore Ron, Gantner Jim Gantner I think. Who else am I missing on? Those brewer teams at that period Moose. Haas would have been a pitcher on that team number six was the pirate the seventy-nine pirates the family. We are family, sister, sledge number seven I think he's low, because I think it's a great monitor that gas house, gang, but thirty four cardinals a gas house. A factory that turned coal to gas for lighting and cooking. And the foul smell of the plant. The the Moniker by the New York Sun was attached because that kernels team and thirty four were described his kind of shoveled. Dirty patched ill-fitting uniforms, aggressive styling on the gas gang go socks or number eight on that list The the nasty boys made the list of twenty five. Now I would argue to me when I think of the ninety team I think the the T. moniker would be the wire-to-wire reds. The nasty boys would be the bullpen specifically. Made splitting hairs maybe that semantics, but that led me to the next part of this equation where you could come in. I thought well if we expanded this beyond baseball into units or groups through the history of sports, there's some pretty good ones I mean I think if the Houston cougars back in the day in the eighties, the Guy Lewis Houston cougars defy slamma Jamma. That that's a teammate Clyde Drexler Hakeem allies Yuan Larry me. Show Benny, Anders. Franklin guards name was Franklin I forget his first name, are you the steel curtain? Very interesting to know all the behind the scenes of how this being I I think in general we know how it's being received when players are being asked to. In many cases, take a seventy five percent pay cut, but how it is playing on one end of the pay scale versus the other end of the pay scale with the players, making a million less basically getting that versus those when they hire in being asked to take dramatic pay cuts again for all the those who are bent out of shape and fed up I I get that frustration to some extent and we're gonNA. Do this early in the show tomorrow night, but I also think people are are not factoring this in. The belief continues to be. The season would start July. The fourth that was the proposal to begin with way back forever ago was the weekend of July the fourth. Nothing that is taking place right now is blowing up their deadline. The thought is they still have up until June the sixth. That's another ten days away now. It's GONNA be ten painful days of of waiting and in hearing unnamed sources float stuff from each side, but people act like they and. I. Go back to the the victory for this and Oh. My goodness just play. Nothing has changed from their original plan to play July the fourth. So. You can be frustrated that the deal's not done, but. Nothing is changing the original plan so. Maybe it's just the way I'm wired if if that time passes. And then they say well, there's not going to be season or well now. We're not GONNA have time to do this or that. That I could see like kicking and screaming and ranting and raving, but to do it now just seems because you feel like being mad about something. Because nothing they're doing is disrupting their original plan in time like that. They set up to play baseball. July, fourth. So until that changes. Okay, let me know when you're done and we'll play baseball July the fourth. Back to the phones, how about Cell Phone Jad? You're on seven hundred W W. You used to do that and you know for the night to say well, you know why give you chance or the team that had to leave. They blew the lead. So you know why not give the team? Santa came back another procession. Convert a fourth and fifteen. You I would be I. Think would make the game really need toward the end. It really intriguing. You know instead of all the time to hear what we have to get a touchdown on cake and most people know well, you know once we're GONNA kick. It's not going to happen source. Anything could have yeah I. Just I mean I don't think there's any comparison of what the anticipation is for an onsite kick verses you mean to tell me if the after a touchdown in the point after the incentives offense back onto the field for fourth and fifteen the drama of that moment, and if you don't get it, you're really host, but if you do. Let? Let me let me make this clear. Just because you convert. It doesn't mean you score. You still have to. You still have to go. You'd have to go another sixty yards to score a touchdown, but. The anticipation of that I think would be off the shirts now. Did they say I don't know if you've heard now? Would that be a play like? Kick where they could feel like the defense picked off score touchdowns like. That, just like one of the Gimmicky plays where they ran back. It's points or done. was still counterplay. Correct yeah is. That's a great question and I believe that is my understanding, although it is an untimely play, so you know what I'm going to say, let me check on that because I'm trying to think now of all the things I've read I haven't had that scenario laid out because you're right, if if we are playing defense and we pick off their fourth and fifteen and return it into the end zone. Is it in fact considered a pick six, or is it I think it would be? You know. The defense runs back or feel block as. Catholic, point. Wonder, what they would question the I gotta look into that I should know that and I think I. Know It, but I'm not sure that I know it, so let me keep looking house at our thanks for. Thanks for the call I. Would you know they tweak? In the last twenty four hours again was included. It went from a timed down to an untimely down making it just like a point after clocks. Not Running is what you have your play clock. Ticking down, but the clock doesn't start on the game clock, but I'm trying to think if you fumble scooping score, pick it off, and if all the scenarios I've read. I'm going to say it is a touchdown if it's returned the other way, but I guess what I get tradition and get especially around here. Good luck getting people to accept any change around here because it's the way we are for the most part, get ready for the H. But I just I. Don't get the push back on this versus the onsite kick. It works ten percent of the time. Yawned. For pitchers pitchers get a hit twelve percent of the time who the hell wants to sit around watch. pitchers hit when they get a hit. Twelve percent of the pictures hit one twenty seven last year. Who Cares? Now Gimme a D. H.. Let's go. WHO WANTS TO WATCH IT ONSIDE? Kick that ten percent of the time versus wait a minute. A minute. Patrick Mahomes is gone back out onto the field. Here come the chiefs. It'll be fourth and fifteen home. Baby I love that Mason. We go Dennis. What was the running backs name played in the NFL James Craig. James. Why are we taking on that? But the Backfield with the mustangs? Yes, yeah, that's a good one Dennis I'm glad you called for the first time. Hey, man, and even politically correct. Take Care of thank you all right now. That's that's going to bug me right, not Roger Craig Roger Craig was the pitching coach James. Craig doesn't sound right. What's the name of the other running back for SMU? Me He was the TV guy is well. Wait a minute I'm not going to commercial and not notice I'm looking this up Pony Express. Craig James That's why wasn't making any sense because we had it backwards there, we go, we'll be alright honesty. Monsters of the Midway Chicago Bears greatest show on turf, the Rams, the Legion of boom, the seahawks secondary. That's a good one Let's see, did I mentioned the electric company mentioned the Bash Brothers I think that ran at rest of the list. Oh, here! I just pulled up from the Washington Post. I have been overstating the success rate of the onside kick. It has been below ten percent since the rule was changed in fact, two years ago, four out of fifty two onside kicks were converted. Two years ago, four out of fifty two at one point last season. This is not an end of the season review on looking at. It was three percent of the time it was successful. Now compare that if you go back prior to the rule change before protection concussions and all that. Go back to twenty thirteen and twenty percent of attempted onside kicks or successful. And, then going forward the drop, twenty percent became sixteen, became thirteen, six, thirteen, three down to seven seven down to three point four percent at one point last season I would file it under the same category of people who demand to see pitchers hit. It just it doesn't happen enough. It's it's. It's not worth the time. To Watch. I. Got Well. Let me grab one more then. We could officially get out of here Dennis. You get the last word. Fun A kick around a couple of topics work you in on on a couple of those topics as well and a hand things off to gamble and senior weekly reality. Check at nine tonight. Let's get to the headlines then we'll go. We start with baseball. The Major League Baseball. Players Association expects to counter the owners economic proposal. Proposal by the end of the week with a plan that includes playing more than one hundred games and a guarantee of full prorated salaries for the twenty twenty season that according to Espn John. Hayman of MLB network reports the mets, reds, brewers, and mariners among teams, releasing minor league players today, not all of them. A number of other league players today, literally a war zone out there. One agent told. Greg Abbott Today said fans will be allowed at outdoor pro sporting events with capacity limited to twenty five percent NFL. Note this afternoon from the NFL, Commissioner, sending out a memo to teams, indicating that starting on Monday teams can reopen their ticket offices and their retail shops with the expectation. The following week teams will be permitted to include coaching stabs at the facility. All of that a look at your headlines for everything else go to my blog at seven hundred wwl W dot com blog has reds and bengals and. Interviews from last night, a little bit of this little bit of that. It's there for free and waiting for you. At seven hundred wwl W dot com I want to try something tonight. I told told a couple of people I talked to from the reds. Organization actually told a couple of players I WANNA. Do This I. Don't know that they're listening, but I think it's something that. We'll call it an experiment. You've heard and read the vitriol from the owners and players. The sources say anonymous sources. Those those quotes that are popping up. I'm going to give you a platform. My curiosity is in how you will use it. Here's what I'm asking. What message would you offer them at this point? The owners and players. The fans get left out of all they go back and forth salvos five from each side. You stand over here like waving your hand like that I'd like some baseball I'm curious. What at this stage what you would say what you would offer? Be Message or advice to those involved in the process. My message would be something along these lines I don't need to know how the sausage was made. I prefer both sides. Zip It. I don't want quotes leaked and planted. I don't need to hear either side talk about. I would include in that message and stressing that message that they have a chance to set an example for other pro sports. They have a chance to lift the spirits. Of Baseball, fans lift the spirits of the country. They have an opportunity to take center stage. And if all else fails, I would stress to them. Do not forget. Nineteen ninety-four. Do not. Fail to recall the damage done in one, thousand, nine, hundred four. That would be part of my opening message. But again, what I'm curious is. What you would say if your ear if if you were involved as a party in this now right now later in this week, maybe as early as tomorrow both sides, we'll get together zoom conference calls. If. You were it on that. End. Up in the air, guys if I could just interject here for a second. What would you tell them? Because you're left out of this process, we're left out of the process. It's the the cliche billionaires versus millionaires, and we're over here, waiting and hoping for baseball. I think most are waiting and hoping for baseball. What would you tell them? Let me, give phone number and open up the lines right out of the shoot, five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred at and T. we're up and running. Join US, aren't L. Career sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet at seven hundred WWL W. Six twenty three seven hundred wwl wrol carriers sportstalk presented by Chelsea Chevrolet. Early question is simply this. You heard both sides. You've heard the vitry all in the the the spewing of of threats and in the unrest I'm giving you a platform. I'm just curious what you would do with it and what your message would be to those involved at this point I. Don't get stressed out and get worked up at times like this. I would say let me know when you're ready to play. Good, I. Don't spend I. Try not to spend time on being. Being upset about things that might happen or could happen now. I reserve the right to get upset. When and if they do happen, but I've never been one who really subscribed to the predictive angst like I. Know this is going to happen, so I'M GONNA get upset about it now. I've got enough to worry about now. That actually is happening, and that's what I would. That's how I would relate to the baseball moment right now, Bob. Nightingale USA Today wrote about this in. Today's paper, he said everyone take a deep breath. exhale slowly and chill. There will be a major league baseball season for twenty twenty. They will play. This is happening. He wrote there's too much money at stake. Everyone knows it Major League Baseball in the Union who may not be able to stand the sight of one another at this moment, stiller business partners and will resolve their issues. No one is naive enough to believe any team will turn a profit this year, but as the players will remind you clubs weren't turning around and handing out Christmas bonuses on the Prophets. They turned every year. Year either there's no reason to offend the biggest stars in the game. There are the highest paid players for a reason. They're the ones who are the biggest gate and TV attractions. The sides will come up with a compromise. It just takes time. There's no deadline in these negotiations, so sit back. Relax and try not to be caught up in the war of words. We're going to have a baseball. Season Major League. Baseball has no choice. Bob Nightingale today from USA. Today could have said it any better. That's why of his quotes from USA TODAY DOT COM I've tried to say this on. I know what frustrates people. There is nothing that has happened to this point that has thrown off the time line of what they initially said. Baseball offer around July the fourth with an eighty two game schedule. The process the making the sausage. Cover your eyes. I don't need to see it. I don't certainly don't need to hear it. There should be a gag order I. Don't WanNa hear from either side. But the drive to the angst. Because what you think is going to happen, I just don't find useful. But it is with that as the backdrop I. Ask you, what would you tell them? You're like the silent partner and all this. Owners over here players over here fans rate here listening seven hundred wwl w. what would you tell them? Go to the phones about Wilmington our first stop and Mitch. You are on seven hundred wliw. Hey Land. You, the more I think about this whole scenario. If? It Really Found me when I think about player like Ted Williams that gave up. You know prime seasons in his. Career. A World War Two and the Korea War and gave up money, and he made that sacrifice for this country well, how does that relate eighty years later? I'm curious. How does that relate to now well, if if we're supposed to take this endemic as seriously as you know, we are in a war with unseen enemy that I've heard well at the same time, if if. Players in the past. Have that's up. And you know sack pike years out of their career. Ted Williams probably hit four hundred. And so the message to the players. What would you say to the owners? Well, they have to make a share sacrifice. It's it's not. It's unilateral between the two because I feel like it's You know I get tired of hearing this. Phrase were all in this together. Okay well for all in this together, everybody has to make back. Oh! That's a good way to put. That's a very good way to put it Mitchell I gotta let me grab as many as I can't hear in Muncie Jim. What would your message be will? Is Is GonNa Change, Your Life Yosick. If, they don't play at all. I couldn't care less. Your message to them. Yeah, exactly right and I say bring back to segment. Okay I I'll let them know as well on the conference call. I don't know how many are aware, but I think we'd all be in favor of that Henderson, we go Tom. What would your message be? I had to take you off speaker. That's why I was delayed. Right? What would your message be to them? Well Kim for. Fifteen seconds. They were for it I just like answer what your message would be to him if you could. Well just about my my message is about the reds tickets while they were offering tickets to buy, and then he would give a kid a backpack. But the irony is, you can't bring the backpack to this. I have no idea what that means, but I certainly appreciate your listening Loveland Dan. What would your message be? Asked hey. So I got I got four points. One they have to remember. This is not just has to be a win win. There's no. If there's no winner, right, otherwise lose. Number two times taken. It's their season. Don't be late root. Word is the okay. Right. number three. Yes is! Remember, that perception is everything. Your point out care how the sausage is made. Yes, our perception. Is Everything. Yes. Lafley four point? Is just basically like. They've got a lead together like. They Talk About Team Baseball Team Sport. Yes, if five of those two to be a team, they need to leave. They need to lead. Now that is, it may be early. I making the caller tonight so far. Dan I listen to thanks for the call. All, right all right. Let's do this bottom. They are now you you dead. What would you offer to that? Owners players back and forth back and forth I don't like you. We don't like you. You're going to have to do this. We're GONNA do that all the while. Tick tick, tick, tick tick! What would your message be to? The parties involved as we continue our L. carrier sports hot presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on seven hundred W. let's keep this moving. Collision Repair Center coming in July the assignment. Early is for you because you get left out of this. The owners do their thing. The players do their things. They fire the proposals back and forth Some of the the comments are leaked some of them. Them are anonymous sources and you're standing over here going well. What about me I just like to watch some baseball eventually, so I'm providing the platform for you to tell them your message message advice I would tell the players no matter no matter what you think, and no matter what you believe is fair. Understand this. You're always going to be working against the perception that fans believe you don't have a job and you don't work, but you play a game. That's always going to be that way you you. Argue able to change that perception because what you do. Your Line of work is something that fans did in their backyard. So they equate that to fun games. Something you do, you should do for love of the game. They don't equate that to being profession a job. You also have to understand that. Your salaries are known the owners. Books are never opened. That's not GonNa Change Apparently, so you're working against that from a perception standpoint that you play a game and you get paid a lot of money versus the owners who own and don't open their books. That's not going to change, so understand that going into the game. And always realize. You as a as a sport, can't afford nineteen ninety-four. The damage done to the sport in ninety four took for how long. Somewhat, say it it. Never really recovered. Others would point to cal ripken's chase of Lou Gehrig's record in what that did galvanize kind of fans of baseball, then eventually, what mcgwire and Sosa Chase of Roger Marris eventually did, and then it was, the curtain pulled back, and we learned that that was all a fraud a fake, but Remember Ninety Four. They cancelled a world series. In Ninety five when the reds made the playoffs, those games didn't even sell out, and I will say do on blue in the face that this city took the strike of ninety four and the cancellation of the world series more personally than any baseball town in the country. I would be willing to bet if you put the numbers up pre strike, average, attendance, post-strike average attendance, and a couple of years before, and then a couple years after that would bear pretty close to being true in terms of the number of people. Even now that's what twenty six years later who will tell me I have not gone back to a baseball game since the nineteen ninety-four strike. Now. There were certainly hurt feelings around the game here this town. They weren't hurt feelings. It was a sense of betrayal and a big screw. You. You're going to do that. I'm doing this I'll see you well. Check that I won't see 'cause I'm leaving. And you didn't come back. That's what I tell both sides. Understand this opportunity presented and yet. As, Bob, Nightingale said what was the line everyone take a deep breath. exhale slowly in chill. There is going to be baseball and I know it 'cause I. Hear you tell me. It bugs somewhat when I say that. I truly believe they're going to play baseball, so I'm not going to kick and scream and yell and call names until somebody shows me. They're not playing baseball, and if they don't play baseball I will join you in kicking and screaming, and perhaps even calling names to both sides. But to this point, maybe it's only because I've been there done that and had to do radio back in ninety four when there was no baseball season. I understand it's. It's negotiations and that's why I refer to it as the sausage and the old cliche. Nobody knew nobody wants to see the sausage. This is part of the process. It's not fun. It's not comfortable. It doesn't appear to be productive from where we sit. But I. Just I don't why so many people have told me in the last week to two I'm done I say done. Why because these guys can't and I keep saying? They're still on track to play when they said they were going to play. That's what I don't get about the rising level of angst. What they're talking about is a necessity at this point. Now they've got to get it figured out because as the caller said before the bottom of the hour, the clock is ticking, but it's not as though they have veered off course inner venturing somewhere on a on a path to nowhere they said eighty two games, and they said honor around July the fourth. Nobody right now has said nobody has said. We're going to be able to play eighty two games or not going to be able to play on or around July the fourth. The players were puzzle. It's believed is going to be to play more games to play upwards of one, hundred or one hundred and ten games. So don't sweat the small stuff. Let's go back to the phones about buddy. Go here and then there and over here, but you are on seven hundred WWL W. You I say right now. I guess a message out baseball right now. America want you. Desperate for sports, I'M AFRAID ESPN is going to sign the British. I can't. Do Anything. They could leave the news cycle. They play it right for two straight. Every night because we are so desperate. Guy Giving the singer. DETENTE NASCAR. That! I. mean we are desperate. Don't blow your. Yes. He strikes. I WILL BE I. That that's an excellent, that's all I need a buck. Thank you all right. We've rallied now back to back calls I'm making caller a in color. Be One and two of the night. That's what I'm looking for. What is the message would need to to stress to them to say guys. Look listen. Just hear me out for a second now at the same time. Let me drop this in I'm reading The New York Post Today Joel Sherman, Headline Major League Baseball Risk Losing Coal Trout and others if it wins. This from Joel Sherman. What of Major League Baseball owners. Get what they want. And then a group of players don't show up. That would be turning victory to defeat quickly for the owners. And Joe Sherman went on to point out that it has already understood that a group of players and coaches and managers with pre existing conditions might opt out over health concerns. John Lester Anthony Rizzo. The cubs are cancer survivors brandon. Morrow type one diabetes. Joe Sherman talk with multiple agents, a half dozen agents in recent days, who said they expect most players to return due to love of baseball sense of responsibility to their careers teammates, perhaps even being shamed into participating in the bad look, but the agents also say they would not be surprised if some players decide not to play. One agent told The New York Post I would actually be more surprised if we did not get a few. WHO Sat out? Three different here won the super rich players. Two players who were do the most money Garrett Cole Mike, Trout both have lied do with their first child thought by some agent's A. They've made enough money in their career. Already wives pregnant with the first kids. Concerns on multiple levels. Maybe they say we'll sit out, but we'll just. We'll see and twenty twenty one. To the players with contracts for multiple years. In, which twenty twenty is a low year on their contract meeting? You'll get a three year deal and a lot of teams will space out. The payments say it's thirty million and it'll go. Six. Ten fourteen million by year six. Is that up at two thirty, okay, six, ten, fourteen, million, some look, and say you know what I twenty twenty year, my contracts, not that big, the bigger years, or on the back end with all that's going on in the risk of injury and everything else and I'm not happy with the deal. I'm not coming back this year and the third part free agents who feel they could do more harm than good to their case. Guys like mookie Betts and TJ Jt Muto in in Trevor Bauer who become free agents at the end of the year. Maybe look and say well wait a minute. I'm in the final year of my contract Do I come back for only half a season. Do I risk poor performance? Do I risk an injury? Do I put myself kind of behind the eight ball by not having a good year with all? That's going on right now. Maybe I just. Don't come back in twenty twenty and hit free agency in the off season, three scenarios laid out by the New York, post, and then there Scott Boras today the agent we heard the back and forth yesterday Trevor Bauer basically told him to get the hell out of their business in a tweet and yet Scott Boras, said today to his clients in a memo obtained by the Associated Press do not bail out the owners. All part of the backdrop. So. What would you tell them? Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred on at and T. R., L. In a twitter spat with Trevor Bauer was making reference to some of the stuff, being said from the players side of things and trevor weighed in and said and I quote. This is Trevor Bauer to former Major League pitcher Kyle. Loesch Kyle your time as a player has come and gone. You're no longer part of the player group negotiating everyone. Appreciate your time and your service, but you don't speak on behalf of the players anymore. That time has come and gone for you. You're not privy to everything that's happening. While your generation, it's talking Major League baseball business while playing video games and complaining publicly how the Union is doing us out of touch. Ex players aren't happy. Standing by watching you wreck. What was built? Trevor bowers response on twitter. Okay boomer. Scott Boras sent a letter to his client. Scott. Boras says the most powerful agent in the game represents seventy-one players his agency. This off season negotiated one point two billion with a B.. One point two billion dollars in contracts this off season boroughs recommended today. His clients refuse Major. League Baseball's attempt to cut salaries in an email obtained by the Associated Press Boroughs wrote the player should not alter the terms of their Merch twenty-six agreement with the owners that. That call for the players to reduce their salaries to a pro rated base basis based on a short, a shortened season based on the proposal eighty two games the players on March twenty six agreed to take what would amount to a fifty percent pay cut. They said all right. If we'RE NOT GONNA play one hundred sixty to apply, and we play eighty two. You can pay half our salaries. Borough said today remember games cannot be played without you. That's what he wrote to his clients. Players should not agree to further pay cuts to bail out. The owners lead owners take some of their record revenues and profits from the past several years and pay you. The pro rated salaries you agreed to accept. Owners now what player to take additional pay cuts to help them pay these loans they wanNA, bail out. They're not offering you a share of the stadium Ballpark, villages or club itself, and that's the genesis for most of the argument that Major League Baseball last year was a record industry of ten billion dollars in baseball's turned a profit as a whole sixteen. In the last seventeen years of the owners are asking the players to give up money during tough times, the players will say well when when you were making the profit sixteen in the last seventeen years. You didn't give us any more money. Outside of the agreement we'd already signed. The players will say why don't you? You didn't let us tear up our agreement and give us more money. So why in tough times for you should you ask us to give you? Give up more money because of what's going on. Back to my original point, none of this none of this should be be played out before our very eyes and ears. We should know any of this. If I were Tony Clark the union I would say look. I see one tweet one radio interview one TV interview from any of you. And we've got a problem. Maybe. That's just me Anderson. We go next time you're on seven hundred WWL W. Speaking here. Just, make my point. I was trying to make I agree with you one hundred percent. But baseball owners in baseball players sued enact a gag rule. Okay, yes, and here's why. Forty million unemployed. Hundred thousand dead. Small businesses going out of business every day. People worried about food on their table. We all are baseball. We all love sports, but we don't want to hear your fighting in the public. You're going to turn people off, yes and. Make Them Mad. Yes, Yawn, belief! And on my second point, if I could follow up because that's such a good point because I I think most understand there are things that have to be hammered out and sides don't always agree on initial offers. It's called negotiating, but if that all needs to take place, and we accept it does. You can't play it out in front of us, we just we don't have the stomach the time the patients or interest to put up with any of it. Do it behind you. If you need a yell at each other, yell at each other. Don't let us know yelling at each other. Right? And I'll tell you this My second point is My Small Business is sports related okay? And I knew. When the NBA canceled, their season paused their season that it was over for sports twenty twenty. Okay, now they're. Coming back with no fans, okay. So but I knew that I knew that back in mid March. Why didn't the owners know that when they were negotiating with the player Ch-. You know he should plan for this and you. You made a deal. You know sorry. You get stuck with what you negotiate. Hey, Tom I enjoyed this call again sometime. Thanks, thank you. Yeah, let's in. Again this is this is more the XS and os in the negotiations in my eyes, kind of glaze over, but on March twenty six I. Mean I remember sitting here with the agreement was announced I remember the excitement of my voice. I, said well look this. The owners and players have agreed was march twenty six that night on sports talk and I said. Wow with all its going on Dave agreed. The players and owners have agreed. The players will only be paid for the Games they play. And this proposal was eighty. Two Games for the players have taken a fifty percent pay cut. And now, the owners said well wait a minute. We didn't really didn't mean that because this could be happening. This might happen, and we needed to take more than that. And the players have kinda folded arms instead, and what now you want to do, what we agree, and that goes back to the trust of wait a minute. We both sides agree back on March twenty sixth. But in the bigger picture of all this I shouldn't be talking about this because it shouldn't be a talking point for any of us, it should be like top secret double probation for all of them when they come walking out of the rooms, if members of the media are sitting outside, they walk right past him, and instead of the dropping those lines. Because you know, this is going on look odors, no members of the media players who members of the media. They dropped the information they need to get. Out there to frame the argument to make them look good. None of this needs to be the only time we should see them is when Tony Clark. And, DONALD FEHR DONALD, fear and Rodman. Tony Clark and Rob Manfred an owner representatives were sitting at the same table and the cameras. We go live to the announcement of agreement to play baseball. There should be the first time we see them and the words out of there about the first. We hear from Major League. Baseball should say ladies and gentlemen. It's time to play baseball. Imagine how differently that would be received. If that was the first thing we heard from either side. Up next rules rules enrolls so many sports changing roles, and it drives over people crazy. Are there any rules you'd like changed as we continue. Our and carriers sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet seven hundred WWL W. The following takes place between seven PM and eight PM. Let's keep moving big starting our number one. Let's roll it into our number. Two eventually will roll Hamlin fit in ear reality. Check from nine to midnight tonight, on the heels of the commencement. A graduation theme you just heard. Let me add this a big day. My my daughter. I as I, say this. It's hard to process that things have moved this quickly. Payton graduated today from Simon Kenton. High School She is now onto Louisville where we're onto level now. The next phase did the drive through graduation as someone who's experienced both the in person at N. que you the Bank of Kentucky Center what's. Facility. Bank of Kentucky having sat through one of those for Casey at what four plus hours Nice but having driven through a forty five minute. Drive through graduation better. Like that a lot, but it was forty five minutes we were in you drove up to the curb. She got out, stood at a little podium with the CAP and gown awed. We got out of the car stood under a little tent, and you took some pictures. Then she moved a few feet over to her right with her principal at another administrator. They handed her diploma. We took pictures of that, and then we were often We were on our way, so and then I said well you. You just graduated from high school where where you go next. And she said let's go to cracker barrel. So a cracker barrel for lunch on graduation day, so very proud of her and love you and. That was that was very cool today, so we are. Now on our way to one who heads into his junior year at UC, in one who heads to her freshman year at Louisville holy cow, and she wound up with a pluses across the board for the year, which clearly is an indicator that she doesn't get any of that. None of me rubs off on her. That is all Kelly. As my as my teachers would tell you what both Carmel. High School and Butler University I was not the a plus type of student. She ran the table with them so very proud of her big day big day all right in the first hour, we we, we did a little exercise that was meant specifically for you. You've read these quotes heard these quotes, the anonymous quotes in old man. This is now getting out in this side, says this. And I thought well what if I just ask you what you would tell the owners and players what the message would be that? That was some pretty good stuff in the first air. Let me this hour number two. If you missed it in the headlines, we talked a little bit about this last night. The NFL the owners have tabled the vote on the fourth and fifth alternative to the onside kick. They said I. We're just not ready to to vote on this. Need some time to let it sink in marinate. Maybe we'll revisit next year. That is out what I find interesting. To the point of making it a topic now. There I think there is a thought that sports as a whole is trying too hard to change things to change the rules. tweak this and tweaking and changing this and changing that. And why don't you just leave the sport alone? That's the sense I get. Rules roles roles change change change. Well. Let me ask you serious question. Is there a rule. You would like to see changed. I can quote you the sport and the rule that you say stop messing. Stop don't do that. I don't need that. Is there something you say now, if you if you really intent on messing with this will change that. I wonder. Because there I get a lot of the pushback because I love those type of I like change. I like the progressive thinking I like. To tweak the game to the point where the excitement level goes up, and the interest is drawn in reach more than the average fan that rubs a lot of traditionalist purist the wrong weight. Stop just stop with your ideas and the silliness. WHY DID NASCAR change this? Why did the NFL have to change this? And why is baseball considering changing that well? Is there something in your mind that you would say? Look if you guys really have to keep messing with things? Why don't you just change this like for me? I think the dropped third strike baseball's while the dumbest rules I've ever heard of a and maybe that's from watching Casey growing up playing. Baseball and the fact that was so hard for little kids in in baseball to throw strikes when they did strike somebody out only to see the third strike. Get past the catcher in the get on base. You just want to like. Throw your hands up at Aaron dropped to the ground and curl up in the fetal position. Really do we really need the dropped third strike rule? Does anybody really think the game is a lot better because if the catcher doesn't hold onto the third strike if it gets passed in that run? This stop! I get rid of that. My biggest pet peeve in sports is the ridiculous NFL rule that says if you're if you're going in for a touchdown, and you fumble the ball through the end zone out the back of the end zone. You lose possession football. It's just it is never made any sense fundamentally. It makes no sense whatsoever that you could be running into the end zone, fumbled the ball, but as you're entering the end zone, it rolls through and out the back in. It's perceived by the NFL rules. Committee is like some cliff in the. The ball fell over the cliff and leg-up tough luck. Other team gets the ball now. When they did nothing to earn, it always said. Why don't you certainly penalized the team for fumbling out of the end zone, but had make it a touchback and put them back on the twenty yard line. Why would you strip them? Possession the ball and give it to the other team when the other team has done nothing to earn possession so I do that and I don't like in the NBA and college basketball guys fouling out. I. Don't like guys picking up a second found going to the bench in the first half. You don't see him again into the second I. Just Make It you know what on the fifth foul or pick your number on the six fouled, bet, college or pro? Pick it on that foul into free throws in the team gets the ball. You're not fouling out of the game. I'm just saying that he always found out. Is that. Make any sense to those are three things I would change. I get rid of the ridiculous dropped third strike in baseball and the ability to. Advance if first base is unoccupied, or if there are two outs and Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. A fumbling out of the back of the end would simply be made okay, that's not good Here's your penalty. You have to take it all the way back to the Twenty Yard Line and NBA College basketball, or not fouling out anymore. When you reach your limit the next. What is then two free throws for the team and the ball, so stop fouling otherwise we're offering the potential of of a five point play is the team gets two free throws, and they get the ball back and they might hit a three. Those who might three I've got one two three four five lines open for that. We'll introduce. That is our second topic tonight five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pounds, seven, hundred on at and T. people make it clear to me crystal clear. They don't like all the changes to the rules. There has got to be something you would sign off on and nod your head and approval when it comes to the rules of sports, go back to the phones and Covington would go John You on seven hundred wwl w.. Yes, Sir regarding your first topic. Okay. Here's what here's the way. I feel about it. I would tell those guys. Look America has been through. American needs a diversion. And please consider it your patriotic duty. To have a season and that's really all I got to say. That's very well said I appreciate you checking in thanks the words I that would be a powerful message to the players now the the players would probably in some way shape or form answer and say hey, we are all about the this country and the American flag patriotism, and yet business is business and we we are not there shouldn't be viewed as anything different than anybody else in a line of work that is in negotiations with their bosses, and it's a necessity of what needs to happen. This has to happen to get us from where we were tobacco, baseball. and. That really has to operate as an entity to itself over here. Because we it is a business. Y- fans will call it a game, but it's our job and it's a business and things have to be worked out. I think the the biggest thing. Out of all of this, it would be a lot easier to stomach. If. You didn't have to hear it. See it and read it. I think it would help the players even more so because the players you. When's the last time you heard an owner's name attached to anything that came out and yet you know damn well. What is being offered in this equation include stuff from the ownership groups. They will tell the owner of the the media tweet text that reporter. Hey, you know. We're going to do this or they're asking for this or they're doing that and names are ever attached at. When's the last time you saw an owner quoted any of the players, and there's obviously thirty owners, and there's like nine hundred players when it's all said and done so. I understand the dynamic there but I think we all agree I in a time where nobody can -gree agree about any I think we'd all agree. Nobody really wants to hear any party involved. Work on this. We just want the words to come out of your mouth. Like Jimmy, Chitwood and Hoosiers I figure. It's about time I play ball. Seventeen couple lines open. Who to two thoughts on rules soccer? I know you're. You're probably somebody say he's exactly right. Just leave our sports alone. There's gotta be something though back in the deep dark recesses of your phantom somewhere in there say now. If you aren't going to change something, then just go ahead and change that rule. Who Was it Anthony Castro Vince wrote a piece recently about the dropped third strike, the history of the dropped third strike. It got me thinking about this. Actually look I'm thinking about. The number of people have made a point of telling me last night. They despise the fourth and fifteen rule and I said, said really that a deal in the end. I mean if the onside kick is successful less than ten percent of the time. I don't understand fighting for the onside kick when you could have an offense, run back out onto the field or run a fourth and fifteen play that to me would seem exciting now. That would be very cool Hamilton. We go, Greg. You're on seven hundred wwl. Yeah this is simple idea with soccer i. know would never change this rule. Maybe it's a new version of soccer, but soccer is always low scoring, and it's a little dangerous hits your head the ball especially with children I would love to see them play. To six different fan bases so i. thought what if we may be carved out a segment where we could react to this, there is a podcast college basketball podcast. It is mark, titus and tape, Frazier, Titus and Tate College, basketball. And I had this past along last night by a listener who listen the iheartradio APP in Charleston South Carolina. Think the name Suri. H. O. are sure so sure if you're listening, thank you for listening to thanks for the pass along. Because I had missed this, they talked recently I think this was last week. With Chris Holtman the head coach of the Ohio State Basketball Program. Listen to his response to the idea of you. See Ohio State. Xavier and Dayton playing in a yearly basketball weekend, the answer to what Indianapolis does with the crossroads classic here on Titus and Tate is Buckeye coach Chris Coghlan. I get asked about this all the time. Will there ever be a day where Ohio State Xavier Cincinnati Dayton played double header the four schools in Indian well listen. He's like he's like. Let's go back to the transfer. Let's talk about. This topic. Over. Here I think we're at the point right now. Where we're getting enough people that have interested in in in in happening I, do think. Will. Happen in the next couple years. We're interns. It's other teams in tournaments, but I think there's enough wishful. It's on US probably to find a date. And then we have agreed on location to, and that's a little bit of all right now. We are going BRIANNA location, because we know there's some really passionate basketball fans among lake on. That's a little bit of a herd of. We gotTA figure out. Your. Date will not leave date. Is. That that's his lawyer saying we're not planning unless it's in Columbus all those other schools. are going to be very upset about that Chris Holman last week on the tightest and Tate podcast. Let's let's get into that. Let's kick that around a little bit, because I have done this as a topic every year come is December usually that tournament takes place in Indianapolis at bankers. Life fieldhouse. I you purdue Notre Dame Butler they. Never play each other in the event because they play each other in the in the in the big ten. Obviously, but they rotated every year. They've done that for upwards of a decade I think it's a fantastic showcase for the state of Indiana, as Chris, Holtman laid out the possibilities of Ohio state UC, Xavier and Dayton being in this. Obviously, you see your wouldn't play each other in the rotation because they play each other as part of the annual crosstown shootout now. Let's deal with the roadblock. The perceived and I think the reality the roadblock is. Xavier does not WANNA play Dayton. From, all indications has no interest inclination. Nothing towards playing Dayton at any point. Doesn't feel the need to. And, so that prompted a an email I got last night in this combo email from Suri who said look if if if Xavier doesn't WANNA. Be a part of this because they don't WanNA play Dayton. We don't need Xavier game? And, so he said. Why wouldn't you just do you see Ohio State? They've shown a willingness to play. Each other already uses shown a willingness and Louisville's show willingness to play each other Kentucky and Ohio state have shown a willingness to play each other. They'd been matched up in that CBS sports classic. What to the last three years or so somewhere around that he said. Why wouldn't you just move on from? Xavier and do you see Ohio? State Kentucky and Louisville and make it. Your annual border game matchup called the Buckeye bluegrass border battle. He says. Don't don't tell me CBS or ESPN would want to televise it. Is You've got the relationships from at least three parts of that to make it work now in in people, I talked to today and reached out for some background. They said well understand that'd be great, but I'm saying you have have to make it worthwhile for Kentucky to be involved with this and include UC! Kentucky already plays level, so that wouldn't be part of the series, but if you're talking about a rotation of the the border battle where you see, Play Louisville one year and Kentucky the next year, and then it goes back to Louisville the next year, Kentucky the next year. That means Kentucky would play. Ohio State and Kentucky would play you see it means logo would play you see in Ohio state if you're going to do all that, you have to give Kentucky a reason to include you see in the tournament. And a day and age with everybody involved in holiday tournaments. You're you don't have as many you're playing more conference games and a lot of cases, so you have fewer non conference games You want to build in your cushion to help for the NCAA tournament, so there's not a lot of opportunities for Non Conference Games, so you'd have to convince you. It would be worth their wile that you see as described to me. You see what have enough juice enough cachet to make UK say alright will be a part of this every year and every other year. We would willingly play you see. What? What do you? What do you think? Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven hundred Aud at and T.. Pick your name. The the Ohio River border classic the Buckeye Bluegrass Border Classic. Doesn't really matter what you call it. I know what I think I. Know what it would mean for a network whether it's CBS or ESPN. I think I know what it would mean for the fan bases of. You See Louisville. Kentucky and Ohio! State, can you hear me now? At Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred on at and T. The in fact. Let me if you're a UC fan. What would you make of this? If you're a Louisville Fan I, couldn't tell you the last time I heard from a Louisville. Fan, but what would you make this? Buckeye fans wildcat fate. Let me approach this. If you're a wild cat fan, I would be most interested in your thoughts on this. Because by conversations I had today. Your program is the one that would need the most convincing to do something like this. You know what Kentucky does. They take on all comers. Play a heavyweight non conference schedule. Could. You be convinced as a Kentucky Fan to say? Yeah, we'll be a part of this and you know once. Every two years will play you see even though they're not a power five. Do. They have enough juice. To, have you entertain the idea? Well find out when we continue because I'll take some calls on that. Ready, five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred on at and T., and it's not to dismiss what Chris Hoffman said is the original idea of you see Ohio? State Xavier Dayton. It's just I think everybody would tell you. Either privately or the record everybody involved would say there is no chance in hell. That Xavier's ever gonNA schedule Dayton again. So I took kind of that out of the equation and went with email. WHO said well? Why not just do the Buckeye bluegrass mortgage classic? I would almost pay for that opportunity. Because I know that what that would mean for me from a topic standpoint, and if you give me something that involves and engages UC fans with Kentucky Fans with Louisville. Fans with Ohio state fans. I mean. If Chris Mack and John. Brennan have already said we'll play each other in Kentucky and Ohio state have already thought okay. No big deal, we'll play each other. What's wrong with the setup on a rotating basis, we'll continue. Seven forty seven sports talk Arnelle carrier sportstalk presented by Kissy Chevrolet seven hundred wwl wliw. They will take you nine to midnight. The other question that was raised during this conversation earlier today was all right. If you do this Buckeye bluegrass border, classic word, you play the Games and I saw you know it's. It's not like there's an obvious like one spot in Ohio and one spot in Kentucky, so you would in all likelihood have to rotate this and you'd be at fifth third one, but that Saturday. A, Saturday in November or December at fifth third arena for the the Buckeye bluegrass border battle. And then the Um Center, and then Rupp, and then the shot in state, and and imagine imagine that appeal on a national scale, but what had have enough appeal in enough juice for Kentucky to say Yeah we can. We can fit that into the Naga. We're willing to to make that. A PART OF OUR NON conference schedule once every other year to take on the cats that is explained to me by all parties I talked to. They said that's that's your. Hang up in the convincing point because you see in Louisville of already said we'll play and Kentucky. State already do play each other so. You'd have to convince Kentucky, it would be worth their while go back to the phones. Then note I forgot about from earlier about what the Texas governor said today, but in a let me wrap this up from our previous topic in Dayton Dave. You're on seven hundred WWL W. Hey Lance how you doing. I'm well. Thanks for calling. Forgetting me on when you mentioned something about rules changes. But we'd like to see the first thing that popped in my head was the NFL pass interference. Shouldn't should not be more than fifteen yards. When they drives me crazy when these teams, yes, through forty fifty yard passes, and there's a cast on her parents, and they moved the ball half the field. Yes, you give him give them a first down, but make it fifteen yards, not the distance covered on the battle. Make it a spot foul. Exactly just do like to. Do, so there you go. I'M GONNA put that on the list. Dave, I'm glad you're listening I certainly appreciate your call. Have a great night PERSI- check in. You know I'm looking at the see. This was the setup last year and this was December twenty first. They do this in Indianapolis. Indianapolis, and that's where they honestly the jealousy is for what college basketball means around here I think the crossroads classic has now taken place I think this will be the tenth consecutive day or the event I think and it's bankers fieldhouse. Perfect place for a showcase event and the state of Indiana gets Kinda of puff out. It's just and say four this Saturday and that's I think both those games are CBS Games, are they? Not I believe Butler Indiana, Notre, Dame and purdue. This past year Indiana took on Notre Dame. Butler took on do. If if they could do it, and it's one of those they can do. Why why why can't we do it? Now in the in the true sense of an Ohio version that you would need Xavier and Dayton to somehow work out being able to play each other and again. It doesn't appear that going to be the case. But. And every time we bring this up, we talk about well. then. Where is it going to be played? If what is it called now? Heritage Bank arena was in better shape. Be Perfect, neutral site downtown Cincinnati, the epicenter give each school twenty five percent of the tickets. Or the I guess you could rotate it fifth third CINTAS value. City arena ud arena. All men imagine a Saturday in December you. D Arena with the Ohio version of that. Now as I, said Indiana, purdue was big ten teams, don't they? They meet during the conference, so they don't play in this crossroads classics, so you do the same with with see and Xavier since they meet in the crosstown shootout. You would just rotate around that, and that always gets into the whole idea of you could expand the fuel beyond that I just like showcase events, and a about a chance to show your pride and offer up the rest of the country. What you've got an if that's if that's not going to include because the conflict. Would Dayton than you me? Ohio Kentucky on a Saturday. When we're Thurston for big things and matchups to high, School Ohio Schools to Kentucky schools and There's a lot of blue blood flow and match ups like that that would be fantastic I mentioned this off the top of the headlines. At honestly, I forgot to I forgot to do more of a segment on this, and maybe we'll do it tomorrow night. Related to the reds. The Texas Governor Today Greg Abbott, announced that fans will be allowed at outdoor sporting events in Texas with limited occupancy so that we're. We're talking for baseball purposes. That's obviously the rangers and Astros, and he has limited the crowds to twenty five percent. So a couple of questions that came out of that one. How does Major League? Baseball handle will if if Texas teams in Texas can have fans. What is baseball do if some states allow fans and other states, don't allow fans almost would seem like it has to be all or nothing. Either everybody has fans or nobody has fans. More specifically, I started running the numbers great American ballpark capacity. Just say for argument's sake. Ohio said all right. We're GONNA copy that plan. great, American Ballpark in Paul Brown can open at twenty five percent capacity. Great, American is forty, two, thousand, three, nineteen, twenty, five percent capacity would be ten, thousand, five, seventy nine. I looked up. They were four games last year. The reds played below that it attendance, but ten, thousand, five seventy nine gives you your season ticket holders than a couple of thousand tickets, maybe per game for individual game sales, but in the bigger picture I I don't know how be curious to know what the answer would be well. What if one state says they can do it at other states around Major, League. Baseball, can't certainly you're not going to have. The Houston Astros player the Texas Rangers. Rangers play at home crowds for their forty home games while other teams can't play any simply from a monetary standpoint of the Rangers being able to you know, pile up some money when we come back Mike Corsey is the hall of Fame College Basketball Writer for the Sporting News. He wrote a column last week about FC. Cincinnati new coach, I don't want to ask you about FC. Cincinnati new coach I. Do want to ask you about the idea of great players being great coaches from this standpoint. What's the Best Combo you can think of? That's been offered up. In terms of the best combination of a great player who was also a great coat, I can have a whole lot of instances where great players miserable coaches I give you instances where guys were miserable players, or maybe didn't even play. That became outstanding coaches. But which one rises to the highest level? In a combination. That will look into as we continue. Little Drop Down Window, pick my name or you can do it through the iheartradio APP, and I have my own podcast page just type in my name through the iheartradio. APP, and it pulls up every show and every interview all right in this hour I like pieces that make me think and Mike because he is one of the finest writers I've ever read and what I enjoyed about the piece he wrote. was about ten days or so ago, it was not about college basketball. He's a hall of fame, College. Basketball writer, but he wrote about FC Cincinnati is hiring Yop stom- and this topic isn't about FC Cincinnati and it's not about your stom-. But from his piece, I started thinking. I've always been intrigued by who who was good at combining both worlds, the road of the great player transitioning into the world of the great coach, because that can be hard and Mike, the paragraph that really got me and said well. That's a topic one night. Mike wrote in North America. We've been conditioned to believe being an all time. Great player means little relative to one's ability to successful successfully right a team. Bill Belichick never played in the NFL. The Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse Played One season of professional basketball in England. Only three of the past thirty coaches to win the NC Double A. Tournament in basketball even played in the NBA. A pointed out magic. Johnson lasted sixteen games as an NBA coach. One of the greatest players of all time sixteen games as a coach Wilt Chamberlain one of the greatest players of all time. Lasted a single season as a coach. Ty Cobb never managed a team that finished higher than second. Pete rose manage the reds to five consecutive second-place finishes. He wasn't bad. He just isn't what I'm looking for. In terms of ultimately the question I'm asking Ted Williams had a losing record as a manager and there's always that thought that. The greats have a tough time. Articulating what work? For the or the expectations of it came. Didn't necessarily come easy to them, but they knew what it talk and they couldn't understand. It got frustrated like. Why can't you do it like I did it? And they had trouble communicating their greatness to players. So often found myself thinking all right if if we were to. If. We were to pick that player. Who best represents best player who became like? Great player great coach. I don't know maybe maybe very good player became a very good coach I'm just looking for the guy who who offers the Mo the highest at each level. Because I can give you sparky Anderson. It wasn't a very good player. Hell of a coach. Manager. I can give you guys who have done one and we're miserable at the other. What I'm wondering is who would you consider to be the best? At both. Let me give you a name. I just tweeted. That came to mind when i read Mike's Piece. Joe Torry. Joe Torry as a player was a nine time all-star. He wanted gold glove. He wanted MVP. Won a batting title. RBI title. Two hundred and fifty two homers. Over twenty three hundred hits over eleven hundred RBI is. Oh by the way to time manager of the year four time world series champion as a manager six World Series appearances twenty three hundred wins fifth most in the history of baseball. I guess that's where I'd set the bar. Who can give me? Can you give me somebody who matches or exceeds each category? Player coach? Now I don't think anybody would argue Joe Tori was great, so maybe maybe this is the best combination of very good for argument's sake I'm just looking for the match at the highest level. You understand what I'm saying. Let me give you phone line. If you do five, one, three, seven, four, nine, seven, thousand, one, eight, hundred, the big one pound, seven, hundred on at and T. They could do it at a high level on each side of things I'll give you another one. Mike Ditka. By, the way, do Tories a hall of Famer Mike Ditka Hall of Famer as a player. He was a rookie of the. He was a five time pro bowler. He had over four hundred catches. He's in the hall of fame. He's got a super bowl ring as a player. He's got a super bowl ring as a coach. He's got a super bowl ring as an assistant coach. In fact, he's got two. Super Bowl rings as a player. So that's that's pretty high up there on the rankings. His accomplishments not as high as Tory from a manager or coach. augie one. How about this? It's kind of like you say I say you play at Ucla at I played. Carrie combs just text in and said Forrest Gregg. I wrote that down. Great minds think alike in fact, carry combs put an exclamation point back at the end of Forest Gregg I wrote down notes today on Forrest Gregg nine time pro bowler three championships is a player, a hall of Famer. As a coach took the Bengals to the Super Bowl multiple coaching stops. That's not bad. He's going in our team. Picture of what do we call it? Dual dual playing coaching greatness again. Maybe great I just been asking on twitter. Do you consider Dusty Baker? Great I wouldn't consider him great, but he's somebody I'm looking for that. That's that would go on the categories. Well, because dusty was a couple of time all star player, he won a gold glove. He WanNa ring. He was a National League Championship series MVP also a three time manager, the year one over eighteen hundred aims. What everywhere went. See I i. think there's something here, clearly. Kerry combs agrees because he's listening in texting his answers. Who else. Might have been a decent as a player, but they became great as a man. I'm looking for somebody. WHO's bar gets pushed up there in both categories where you're thinking. That bar is set pretty high for category. I give full credit to Mike the Corsi for sparking this idea what he wrote about. Tom By the way the original point umbrellas FC Cincinnati higher fantastic player, I mean a fantastic reputation. Hard nosed tough as nails. What will be at FC Cincinnati? Don't know we're about to find out. He's managed another stops. I love the the bill belichick on on one side never played in the NFL, arguably the greatest NFL coach of all time sparky Anderson. Probably sparky Anderson's lifetime batting average probably around two ten one of the greatest managers of all time. Nick Nurse One, an NBA title with the Raptors in played one season in England Who Makes Your List Andrew Tom Scott John Billy Dennis John Richard. Take a timeout like carry text me some other candidates now. Tom Gamble chief is texting me so I must have hit on something. Clearly I took a big swing and a miss on the basketball topic in the in the previous segment. I almost invested like a top of the topic in the college basketball, so I thought to myself well, how can you lose if you drawing UC? Ohio State Kentucky and Louisville for that level of conversation after Chris. Houghton floated the idea and I just took a gigantic swing and miss. Go back to the dugout on that I may have hit on something. We'll get into your calls next talk. Carriers sportstalk presented by Kelsey. Chevrolet, seven hundred W W. Jones plumbing. Right I'm. Traffic Cop right now. I'm looking at I'm looking tweets. This question I'm looking at. Rains during this question, Tom Gambles ever text me this many times in one day, Todd Jones, texting me one of the great writers in the history of Cincinnati Kentucky sports over the years. Kerry combs is texting me. I Tom Jones. I agree on one I just tweeted about Lenny Wilkens. Letting Wilkins. A Hall of Famer I spelled his name wrong I shouldn't have done that. Sixteen points a game. Seven assists per game as a player nine time all-star, thirteen, hundred and thirty two wins as a coach, he had a ring ring as a coach, and at one point upon his retirement was the all time leader in wins in NBA history. I don't I. Don't know it'd be a stretch to say. He wasn't on like the fifty greatest players of all time list so. He would be really good. Player great coach that that's pretty good. That's getting up near the top on both those categories. I tweeted Lou. Pinella Lou. Pinella was a rookie of the year. It was an all star. The playing numbers underrated. The play numbers a little bit light compared to manage your manager that you're three times. You want to ring one eight hundred nine hundred Games Heke at one hundred sixteen wins season with the Mariners, he had a ninety seven win season with the cubs yet ninety one season with the Yankees I'm GonNa guys won ninety four games with three different teams that leads us the dusty. Dusty had success along those lines I'll give you. Another one. Getting old school one. Well. Have you been what Tom Gamble offer me before he walks into building Phil Jackson. Now fill is a player lesser as a player, certainly because it's hard to. It's hard to equate to winning eleven, championships, coach, but coach Eerie Levin Nba Rings as a coach. One a ring as a player nineteen seventy-three Knicks. I would I would say fiddle was a what. What do we say good player? I wouldn't go so far as to say very good player could fills a little bit beat before my appreciation so I'd say good player great coach. I get somebody who moves their scale up to more. Even let's Let's go here all well. Let me get some support here because I don't like stealing his candidate, but I think he can back me up on this. At least in great minds think alike in Oxford John Lenny Wilkins, make sense. Does any man I'll tell you what I remember. When I was a little kid, he was a baller. And then you know with that seventy already supersonic team I. think that won the NBA title Yes. When like seventy six or something maybe? JAKSIC Melissa. Jack Sick. That would have been a DJ. Dennis Johnson on that team right correct and I'll share. There was another guy maybe Paul Silence Oh. Walked what Lance I got another basketball guy for you think it could be the greatest Combo player coach in history. College Basketball John Wooden? Oh Don. Wouldn't it was the greatest player? Of his time at purdue, I believe all American, absolutely, yeah, yeah, in peace at a lot of records in the big ten and and then you know, of course the rest is history bank plan. Thank you I liked that. Learn all these different names popping up here. How `bout I hesitate to use? I'll give you one I'll give you one. Where I did my initial list. I didn't want my thought. Wait a minute. How did I leave Doc rivers off? Because Doc, rivers is a player heck of a player. In all star. made the playoffs as a coach student still coaching, NBA tidal coach of the year. But DOC was a I'd say. Really good player. I wouldn't call Doc rivers a great player. Though would we call him a great coach dough all that? Doing with my hands I'm doing kind of a slide scale here with my hands tried to to balance out the guy who moves up to the top close enough in in both of those. How `bout here in. Cellphone Chad. You're on seven hundred wwl, W and I. Don't know if you look at his back. A. Mba Champion as a player. Jersey was retired parking Kentucky. Unanimous tired of the Year of course, NBA got multiple ranges second year. Pat Riley Oh yeah. Yeah. He's a five time champions. It's three time catch here. He's only executive here. And then like I said if you look at his stats playing 'cause numbers retired Kentucky was sec of the year was the first American thirteen American, and you also want to bring Clare Stuff. I mean. That's not bad, not bad Chad. Thank you, Chad. You sit something now. I have to consider because he's including Kentucky because my initial thought on Pat Riley was as a player he was. He was okay. He was a role player. Pat For his career average seven points in the NBA, but if we haven't set up the parameters, so you get to decide to parameters if we include college which. Is. Not Fair game, obviously, then that changes things Todd Jones still texting away Frank Robinson he offers. I've got Todd Jones and Kerry combs and and Tom. We do we can do like a zoom tonight. Me Todd Jones Kerry combs and top gamble on zoom, throwing out names at arguing about their greatness, so if we did the college angle on this as a player, then that changes the dynamics of all of this and I would be remiss if I went to the break without. Larry, Bird. Because, Larry Bird I need to make his case as a college player or an NBA player. It certainly stands on its own Larry. Bird won coach of the year. Larry Bird. One executive of the year now might parameters is coach manager, not front office guy necessarily, but he took a, he took a team to the NBA finals. Did he not so? That's pretty good Todd Jones. Now sending me emojis of thumbs up with a beer, so now makes me want to have a beer. We can do a zoom tonight. The four of us while drinking beer. How about that? Andrew Scott Diane and Richard. How did all this start? All all I give full credit to might to Corsi because he wrote about FC Cincinnati is coach, and the idea of how we're conditioned to believe in North America all great players me an all time. Great player means little in terms of the relation to their ability to be successful as a coach or a manager. You can be outstanding how you play the game. It doesn't necessarily translate to being outstanding and how you coach or manage the game, so I've always thought well, then who would we consider the best match for that category? We'll take some more calls we continue. Our national carriers sportstalk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on seven hundred w out of you. Eight thirty, seven, seven, hundred wwl wjr now. Carriers sportstalk presented by Kelsey. AAA ME. Talk at Chee Hallway during the break and I'm going back and I'm texting with Carrie. Everybody's all worked up over. This topic turned out to be a much better topic that I envisioned. I love all the different names. I'll give you one. Let me flash your back this an old school, Tommy, Heinsohn the Celtic great as a player, average nineteen points and eight rebounds, a game, one eight rings a player. He was rookie of the year. Then, he was coach of the year and coached the Celtics to to NBA titles. So, rookie of the year six time, All Star, one eight rings is a player and averaged nineteen points a game, then as a coach won two titles with the Boston Celtics not bad for Tommy Heinsohn. Let me, give you. Tom Game will mention this name, and I WANNA go to Lebanon a double up on it and get some input on Scott who has a candidate, Scott, you're on seven hundred wwl. They are anti. You Know Hey. I'm great. Thanks for calling. So not one that was ever a great player, but if you look at overall titles, how about the her? Oh, I like how you presented that. Because you're right, he wasn't a. he wasn't like a star and all star or even regular, but he was one of the best shooters in the history of the game he won rings in the game with the Bulls obviously, and then he's obviously racked up rings in the NBA is a coach with the Golden State Warriors only one to what the Spurs so. That's I forgot about the Spurs. Yeah, five playing three coach in and not done yet. and. Putting him in the conversation. I, started thinking about him after watching electing. Yeah, absolutely good call and that Hey Scott. Thanks for calling buddy. Thanks for listening I. Have a have a good night. I'll give you another one I thought of. He wasn't. He wasn't a great player, so I'm adjusting the scale. He's in the conversation. He's not at the top of our list. is probably a tear or two down. He won two rings as a player. He was a I'm going to say. Good I'm not gonNA. Say Very Good I. You know what I'll say pretty good. He was pretty good player. And won a world series as a manager and two time manager of the year. And Norm Charlton blew him up at home plate. Mike Socia-. At least has to be in the mix. He's not at the top of the list, but he's in our conversation for guys. You have to say Oh yeah. Wasn't an all star player certainly. But. Played on winning teams and then. Managed winning teams all right. How about here and this would be Mt Healthy Diet your seven hundred wwl w. Dante from Good. I've got to four years, yeah! The baseball right That's National League American League. said. About Martin. Who Billy Martin's scrappy baseball player. Yankees even played to the red zone bed all right. He was an all star. We'll say. Boy Certainly, manager yeah. Eh What are naturally Tommy lasorda timeliness when I would have to look. At the top of my head. I think he was a pitcher as clear I don't remember how good he was. Patriot I will look that up. All right. Hey, thanks for the call, appreciate checking a little bit noise in the background. There I'm GonNa look you know billy. Martin is a player. Was He was an okay player? He was a one time. All Star hit two fifty seven for his career, certainly feisty scrappy in the same way as a manager. Who is if he wasn't fighting people who are getting fired by George Steinbrenner but I'm gonNA. pull up I'M GONNA say that Tommy Lasorda wasn't that. Good of Pitcher and I'm GonNa say maybe he was more I. Don't WanNa say, Cup, coffee, type, player, but I'm scrambling his I type it certainly as a manager, no question. Tommy LASORDA. Player for his career. Yeah, there, you go. Pitched three seasons, and never won a game in the major leagues he was Oh for four Oh and four with a six forty eight earned run average, so I'm going to knock him down towards the bottom of our list of guys who were Major. We'll put him in the category of he made it to. The Majors Anne one titles as a manager, but he's not moving up higher analyst. Beyond that let me go to Centerville, let me stop here with Richard on seven hundred. WWL W I Richard. To the show, thank you. Let's say let's talk about Bart Starr. You know you intrigue me with that one. Enough I saw that up on the board I looked up his career. I will admit I was surprised. He coached nine seasons and Bert. Star had one winning season as a coach, so maybe we knock him a little bit down for that, but as a player had no question about that. Yes. Is? beat the bears and the Vikings all. I love that that is a great answer I won't accept that answer and enter it into evidence. I think calling Richard Thank you have a great night. Yeah, that's. I, like that, because on the surface he is. He was twenty four games under five hundred is a coach. Fifty to seventy, six and three is one winning season was nineteen seventy eight, but you beat the bears. You score a lot of points if you're fan of the packers, and if you beat the packers, score a lot of points if you're fan of the bears kind of how it works. Let's see. Let me go here. Outlets see. I know I know what he accomplishes. A certainly is a as a player on on multiple levels. Let me go to Milford Billy. You're on seven hundred WWL W. Yeah when I, heard you question news. Two guys automatic became in my mind from south. With the first guy I wasn't sure about the credibility of this coaching, and the second guy was unsure about his credibility player. Right I guy thought of being Chelsea. What about Bill Russell, being best defensive basketball player have all marcy with player manager player coach for South because I. Don't remember. Many coach Seattle. Coach I'm not sure if. That's a great question and I'm looking up the same thing because I know as a player coach with the Celtics. He WanNA title. I'm trying to remember what he did in Seattle but I mean heck. Any conversation begins with Bill Russell automatically goes to the fact he won. What he won eleven, rings, or a ridiculous number rings, and he won one as a anti, was the first African American head coach in the NBA. He Won. A ring is a player coach, so he's got a. that's a pretty good resume to work from what this guy? I'm not sure credibiity of playing. I'm assuming being Celtic Fan. He was a good. Man but I know. He coach really well with the Milwaukee Bucks. What about down now? Don Nelson's a really good one. Yet me and I think the Celtics. Guys who went on to co including Larry Bird how about that tree of great players or good players who went on to be very good to great coaches? That's that's not bad. That's not bad at all. Appreciate Toyota used to talk to long long time ago Kit for mill for then I stopped calling because it was always hard to stand above for a long time, but I really like shown I. Listen To you every night and Nice to talk to. You made my night I'm so glad you called a call back again sometime all right? Good night. Thank you use well. I just looked at bill. Russell I should I should no more of this I i. just don't, but as a coach won two titles. If what I'm looking at is correct as a player was, he was he a player coach with the Celtics for three seasons. I didn't realize it was actually three seasons. At the thing of this bill. Russell coach played and coached the Celtics Age thirty, two, thirty, three, thirty four. NBA Champion in the sixty seven sixty eight season, then sixty, eight, sixty nine season later coach, what four years later was the coach of the Sonics Supersonics at the time for one, two, three, four, one, two four seasons and coach, Sacramento, for season, did not have tremendous success after leaving the Celtics over five hundred a couple of times, but that strong I, didn't realize he was a player coach on to Nba Championship but somebody drew a somebody draw up the playing and coaching tree of Celtics. Completely forgot about Don Nelson. Good one all right, we'll head down. The stretch will squeeze in on this date in reds history in squeeze in some more your calls I hope I'll try. Eight forty six Arnelle carriers sports doc presented by Kelsey, Chevrolet seven hundred WWL W. Thank. You. All right, let's do this every night at this time. If I remember correctly if I don't buy Guy Stephen. SHERP will fill in the blanks on things. It have fallen through the cracks in my mind Let's go here. Lebanon now this is this is a good one. I'm going to defer to the caller because I couldn't tell you what kind of the extent of his playing career. Oil Okay. No, he's gone. Let me go Let me go here in Indiana. The caller was going to mention. George Halas Papa Bear. Man You're talking to playing career That's early nineteen hundreds, and then you're. You're talking at that point. He would have been playing for like The Decatur Staley's probably who later became the Chicago bears. Here are just pulled it up, also played the Hammond all stars and the Chicago Stam's steams. I can't tell you much about the playing career. Of Papa, bear can certainly speak at length about what he did for the game as a as a coach. Absolutely, let's go here though in Indiana Chris, you're on seven hundred WWL W. Like the offer, maybe a couple of old school baseball guys. Rauscher Leo own. All right now we're talking all right, not an offensive player, but a pretty solid guy has a player absolutely. NFL Obviously. House hang out. Yeah. He was a he was a three time all star and got MVP votes in a couple of seasons aright. One other one maybe again that this before I'll start Gareth very old, but Philadelphia as whole cutting. Wow, yeah. If player I guess in terms of what they say how place looks. At a lot of new things to the position. That's all. I had offer that as well done, I appreciate the contributions. have been thank you for checking in. Yeah, defer on the plane career aspect of that I certainly know we did in the manager. Aspect of all that Let's go. I can squeeze in at least one more try to make it to in Madisonville. Rick, you're on seven hundred wliw. Lance good evening. How are you sir? I am well. Thank you for calling. Eight listen I laid out of the boat. I know you're under the gun here I. Don't know Frank Robinson or force. Greg has been mentioned. Forrest Gregg was Frank Robinson won manager of the year in in one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty nine, and while he had for his career a losing record overall as a manager, he had a couple of Nice runs with teams, and it had winning seasons, so he certainly earns his way into the conversation. It looks a little blast from the past here and the lesser from Cleveland, you may not recognize the name, but the only player in Major League baseball in the whole thing as both a player. A manager Lou Boudreau Oh, yes, absolutely, and the heck of it announcer as well later in his career. That's a that's a good one I did not have him on my list. Anywhere I gotta go Rick Somebody. Take care. Thank you squeeze in one more one more. If we make it quick bill, you're going to get the final word. What do you got? To know what would? What. I think I may have. He broke up a little bit woody woodpecker. I'm going to leave the show smiling and laughing. Have yourself a great night I could not have imagined I tweeted. This I'll try to guess how topics going to go. In my mind I think all right. There's gotTa Chancer is a little bit dicey or this one is golden.
