"Were. I mean, there were some things that I liked. I thought were good. I went, oh, well that, you know, you've got some evidence for that. We don't know if that's the way that aligns here. But the fact that they made it with such a certainty that there were some very non factual things. And some of them to a cringe worthy level. There was a lot of error and stuff. The purport that the world is only as old as the creation of humans is a grave error. To state that this world was created 6000 years ago and somehow dinosaurs and humans coexisted on the planet at the same time. Struggling with that one. Now, I'm struggling in many ways. First of all, it makes us look stupid. Secondly, because science tells us absolutely that did not happen. And secondly, it's not in the word of God. So this is a Christian organization that's purporting things that has nowhere in the Bible. It has no basis on the scripture whatsoever that T. Rex was Adam wasn't running from T. Rex. Or any other model. That's one big barbecue wing from a T. Rex. A little dainty little dainty snack. If that had happened, I'm absolutely certain that the lord would have mentioned it. Because he mentions other miraculous things in the Bible. Okay. Those things are all hinted there to there. And you can find evidence for them in the Bible. I do not. It does the same thing science does. It goes, we have pieces of evidence, and they attempt to fill in blanks with best guesses. Right. Hopeful thought. And so I think that if we're going to have the discussion and be reasonable, we need to be able to have the balance view of science doing that. And Christian theorists doing it. The wrong is wrong. Two wrongs don't make it right..

"It would actually be possible for me to do that because there's a syndrome that raspberry my family called marfan syndrome where bits of our body grow too much and the bit of my body that grew too much is my arms. So I have actually arms that are too long for my body, which you can't really tell if you meet me. But if you see me on film, I'd look like some sort of strange cartoon character because my arms are like, so the least likely person to be asked to do an impression of a two year old. Isn't something a lot of people use, you know, as their byline. But you should put that on your poster. In case anyone's really afraid of tyrannosaurus rexes and doesn't want to be triggered by an impression, you can almost guarantee that even if you do do an impression, it will be a bad one. If you've ever wondered what a T. Rex would look like with long arms. So anyway, so the story, again, I was reading this story going, is this a story that's essentially the story is T rexes may have been three different species. And this has come from exploring the different levels of fossilization. So a million years worth of fossilization is quite a long time. I think we can agree that's quite a long time. And so during that time, there's been evolution. How much is that in asteroid distances in asteroid systems? It's 75 shards, I believe, because you can use The Shard also to do the digging. So the study shows, oh, well, actually, two X's look different at different periods. Some of the scientists are saying this is absolutely true. They must have been different species, and other scientists are saying, this is just life, life, people just evolve a little bit. So there's a sort of west side story situation we've got going on between the different dinosaurs, specialists, having jets versus the sharks or T..

"Just pointing it out there. I am hungry. Is that why you're 5 miles away from your microphone as usual? I'm not. I don't know, see what are you doing? I'm kissing my mic right now. Oh, lovely. Hello. Mark alas here. You just stopped on you. I for quite some time. It quite some time. 30 odd years straight. How much coffee have you had this morning? That's the question. Finishing one cup. Oh, that's not enough. We can't do a shower. One cup. Okay. Stop. Stop. Come back. I'm on my second coffee of the day. And it's funny, we understand what coffee isn't it? Sometimes the second one just hits the spot and the way the first one just can't. Oh it's all nonsense coffee is terrible, coffee does nothing for you. It's all well. That's a problem. That doesn't taste like coffee is not good. I wish. Oh, guys, I've got to say, just to kick things off, I have to tell you this. I am a genius. It's fine. I am a genius. Going to leave your haggis. I'm just going to leave it. I am a genius. Why Stephen? Thank you. Well, I wanting to use two keyboards with my computers, right? Because I've got the market for the piece in front of me and I thought, I want to use two separate keyboards coming in sick of this Logitech keyboard, having to switch between. Sorry to everyone who's bought one of these, by the way. And mitre will be loving it. On your recommendation on my recommendation. It's a great keyboard. It's a brilliant keyboard, but I'm so fed up going between devices and remembering whether it hold down the function key on all done function key. I'm just so sick of this. And I've got this fantastic mechanical keyboard E thing. It's a razor, something or not so I think is, or Razer or natu, version two, I might add, not that. You have spoken of it version one rubbish. None of this is version two. It's a great keyboard. But having two keyboards in front of you is quite awkward because you can't type that way. Because you can lean over one to get to the other. I was just as I'm about to start the show. I find on the floor because that's how blind people work. We just fly stuff lying around. Literally. Fell over actually. This was standing up. And I found this little laptop riser. And I thought, I wonder. So I just put it on the table and put the keyboard on it. Genius. I've got two keyboards, no, one's running resin above the rose, recently raised. Above the other. It's amazing. Yeah, but how comfortable is that to type? I mean, it's above its floating in the air, basically. Yeah. I mean, that sounds terrible. Unless you're a T. Rex or a velociraptor, you got to lift your little arms up there and to type. No, that's tackle idea. You've never seen me chicken. Did you just call them a T. Rex? I'm just picturing it in my head, that's all I just terrible. That's the image that comes to your mind. Yeah, that's weird, isn't it? Yeah, somehow a T. Rex would be the first thought in your mind. Sorry. How do you use the other keyboard? Because I can use this one. This keyboard is perfect for my DX arms. But now I've got a problem with the Logitech keyboard. It's just terrible. I wish I was extinct. I'm muted myself. I told you I was hungry. Well, I have to say, I am loving these keyboard setups now. I have to tell you because I have been talking a lot about my MacBook experience over the past couple of weeks. Chose to get the 16 inch MacBook Pro. Well, Sunday I maybe took it back. To the store. And so weird because I was actually we were staying overnight. Yeah, it took you back. After all that. After all that. However, hang on, the story does not end there. My wife and I don't know if the hotel on Saturday night, my wife was off to have her evening out with her friends from work, and I decided to stay in the hotel. Anyone who follows me on Twitter will know what I was doing involved Adele and KFC. Maybe you should clarify listening to Adele and you think GFC. I should probably just add a few words in there. This isn't I'm not realizing what's do matter, guys. Well done. So yes, that was me on Saturday night. On Sunday, I'm thinking to myself, I wonder if I should go to the Apple store and take this thing back, but hang on. I do have the box. So I'm not going to take it back, right? They're not going to take a bite of that box, should. They did. I called up the source. It would do this for me, and they'll let you. Crammed in a KFC pocket. Gravy. They opened the box. It was all greasy and all you could see was it Belle's album playing. That's right, that was in the no playing history. Steven laid on the bed with KFC and listening to Adele and the silk bathrobe. And then my popcorn chicken that's enough. Yeah, so let's get back to the T. Rex. He's still hungry, Sean? No. So I'm trying to solve this problem for you. So yeah, so I go into the store, get it swapped. And that's why I do a swap out for a 14 inch MacBook Pro. Same spec, but just the 14 inch version, and I have to say, I went for the 14 inch seam spec because they didn't have anything else. That was all the ad in store at the time. So I thought, y'all can't find. I'm loving it. I am loving it. Obviously, we've got a week to go until I change my mind. But so far. But you have there extended return policy for the holidays. So you're good till mid January. I can take it by mid January. Get rid of it then. The 12 inch. Just keep Mike smaller and look at what he's doing though. He's actually hitting return. And doing a mail return is sending the box in with a brick. Yes. It's tempting as that is. I've got this and I have to tell you the surface pro four. It is leading towards going back. I'm having a few issues with this one, guys. Surface laptop for stuff is laptop. What did I say? Surface pro four. All right, yeah. Thanks for clarifying that. Because someone will come in. Why did you most prove for? Well, yeah, you're right. Surface laptop for, which is the 2021 model. It's got that same card issue. And I'm heating a lot of companies, a lot of people to buy various laptops from companies like Dale. Mainly Dell. And no surface from Microsoft. You're obsessed with Adele. It's a desk. My favorite computer and singer. But yeah, basically the sound card. It's interesting. I got in touch with Microsoft support this week through BMIs, which is a great way to get in touch with amazing. They can see the screen to see what's going on. And of course, oftentimes they just take over the computer and that's great. So I get on touch with them, and I said, look, having a stone card issue. And she says to me, the classic thing, which is, it sounds fine. It does so fine. It's the sound is necessarily an issue that it stutters every so often. So I think most people probably wouldn't notice this. I would imagine you notice that if music was playing, you know, if you were listening to the Adele, 30 album, best album ever. Sorry, we've been sponsored. Why are there? I just want to dill on the show. Come on. Do a bit of a try asking. Well, I could. But you know that involves work and stuff. And emails. It's good time. Is it system wide? So is it all system that audio that's playing through? Or is it just the speech syn? Well, I'm only noticing it with the speech. Because to be honest, I don't listen to much else through it. But I am noticing as this speech is being read back. It does judder occasionally. So kind of stutter and stammer and whatever else during the course of usage. And it's not all the time. It kind of makes me think back to the days when computers just weren't really powerful. And sometimes stutter the way along. And this is a pretty decent machinist on I 7 processors 16 gigahertz. It's no slouch. Obviously it is a fantastic radiator. It's nice to have that back actually in a laptop. That's all that keeps you warm while you use it. It's lovely. Not used to having an Intel machine around. But as a wonderful as a machine it is, I've got to solve this issue. And it all seems to go back to this real tech audio driver. I've had other people talking about this challenges they've had with laptops. And a lot of people who are having these issues seem to be doing the same thing. And that's buying Lenovo. I don't know what Lenovo uses or what Lenovo does. I was convinced not overview used the same audio driver's real text seems to be at the heart of everything. But maybe not, I certainly have never had an issue with other machines for sure. I've got the same Lenovo laptop. You've got, Sean, and never a problem with it. And I've got this little HP here. I've talked with this HP machine before. It's really basic machine there's nothing particularly fancier but it's dual core as I 5 is maybe what 5 6 years old now, and it performs better with jaws than this surface pro survey. Again, surface laptop four. Which is ridiculous to me. So my question to you Mark, I follow is, have you noticed any audio issues with your surface pro 8? No, no. It's interesting. No, but it seems to be, I haven't looked into this too deeply, but I've heard a lot of chatter about how the real tech driver itself. So real tech chipset, audio chipset is in so many laptops and it seems to be almost a default name. But there's a lot of different versions of it. So I don't know if this is specific to the latest real tech audio chipset or just this driver. It could be fixed with a driver update from real tech. I don't know, but there definitely is an issue. And as you said, this isn't just the surface laptop for a problem. No. This goes across different brands is specifically about the real tech sound driver. And there's a specific to voice-over. It seems to be. I asked to say I don't listen to much else through it basic la Morley over listening to the voice. I wonder if it has something to do with voice-over taking over the card. When the card is being used for something else. We're talking about voice over because it's the PC, but actually that's an interesting point because I'm using jaws, not narrator. So maybe I'll do some tests with narrator and see if it does the same thing. I am curious, that could be interesting. Maybe just doesn't run this on audio driver. I know how this video driver, but not an audio one. So I don't know what's going on there. I just don't know what's happening with this very odd, and it kind of makes you feel uncomfortable. So the person on the phone would be a lovely person. Two things came out of the call. One is if you've got a Microsoft product and you want to do an update, it has to come via Microsoft up that you can't just go to see a real text website and download the latest driver. Maybe you can, but they recommend that you do all through Windows update. They always recommend that. But the woman on the phone said to me, actually, if this was an HP or it was Adele or it was another type of PC, you could just go to the website and go and get the update. Perhaps even from that manufacturer themselves like Dale have their own HP of their own and a little over of their own. So that was quite interesting. I didn't realize that. No, I don't know why that would be. That's almost like you're using Windows S edition or something. Why? Why can't you install it from a third party? I don't get that at all. I'm pretty sure you can get almost a generic audio driver which will replace the real tech one. It will be dumb down you won't get any of the extra features you know like sometimes when you plug something in it will say, what do you want to use this Jack for and things like that? You used to be able to replace it with a generic driver. I know that's getting more difficult, but that may be a workaround, but still, it's a lot of hard work and a lot of searching about for something that just shouldn't be a problem. Well, that said to the woman on the phone, that was the second thing, because she said, oh, it sounds fine. Then I said, well, look at it this week. If your car drove perfectly 90% of the time, but 10% of the time, it would just veer off to the left or right without any kind of explanation or reason. Would you feel comfortable driving that car? That's kind of what it's like for me here. I just don't feel particularly comfortable with it because I just can not get it to read properly stuttering, it's stammering. It's not keeping up in the way that I would expect. And I just find that really weird. And this is clearly an audio issue. And that's a translation issue. Between what English to Scottish? Yeah, perhaps..

T. Rex Was a 'Foodie,' Scientists Find
"There was a paper that came out recently called complex neuro vascular system in the dentistry of tyrannosaurus and it was published in historical biology by so chiro koby and sochi tori. And it's around how t. Rex may have had a sensitive tip of its snout like that displayed. A source horny yet but the headlines were more about it being a foodie or a picky eater. Where's the display a source. One was like it was a tender lover. It it's a really interesting. The two different headline types. There's a lot of reasons. It would be useful to have a sensitive snout so to kind of summit up. I liked the way the new york times article. Put it quote. T. rex to eat blindly and basically t rex had these complex nerves and the tip of the jaw may have been sensitive and that would have helped. Tell the difference between soft tissue and other parts of the meat. It was eating so then. If it was available it could choose to eat the soft parts interesting. And they also. Cd scanned some other orna. "Of residents are out of a home. They were evacuated from a seven storey apartment building yesterday afternoon over fears the condo could collapse. It's an old building, so you know, I just felt like had they been on top of it For all these years, we wouldn't be here. Cora notified her landlord of the crack in her sixth floor ceiling in late July. Engineers came to inspect and on Friday they deemed it unsafe. Recommending everyone evacuate. Actually, it's like a movie. I suddenly like. Refugee is the first I don't have this experience before Towns building inspector says there was no imminent threat of a collapse just structural concerns. But officials say the memory of the deadly building collapse in Surfside, Florida in June ramped up their response. All of us are on a heightened sense of awareness. "Is the gambling. you're doing what percentage of it is it more. Is it gambling addiction or is it gambling as you having a competition problem like you need to compete. Both you know after a while years of gambling. I mean i'd go to vegas and play the tables But realized i could spend my money slower at the racetrack. So i started. I was more just the racetrack and my mind was. But i've got the money to do it. The problem was there became a time. You know and i'm not talking. No i never went to the track with probably west and ten thousand dollars like an idiot So you know. I think i just poured myself into whatever it was. You know 'cause during the season. I did play the horses as much wants. The season was over. Look out i was going to work out in the morning and go lay horses in the play ball at night. So that's that's what it was or go play golf in the afternoon and go play and go play ball at night. But that's what it was workout sleep and You know basketball. And and whatever else. I could throw myself into to distract from whatever is going on in my. That's fascinating rex. You're hiding the whole time. Just trying to find. Some what can i. What can i ingest emotionally or other. Well no because you weren't really doing drugs and stuff at that time right like that wasn't that wasn't until after you had to be a professional. You know you know what i really think. A big part of it to kind of you know when i was in college and in high school me and my girlfriend my black girl. She's sean hicks. I had a black girlfriend and Markings it's mark cake sister. Who played for the dolphins. Yeah i we grew up. We grew up in the same town and we're best friends from the time we were little boyfriend and girlfriend but people in the south weren't really having it and You know i. I was made to feel as though i shouldn't do that or if i did. I should hide it. And i think that started a pattern of from a young age. I would. I had a secret and looking back through the all of those years. It made me kind of made me feel like i needed to have a secret about something and i think i just kind of kept going on with that. The older i got you know whatever it was. I needed to have a little secret and because i felt so bad people telling me who i could look. I'm play for you guys. And i'm playing well. I'm doing all this stuff at school. Y'all can't tell me today and That's how i looked at it and so there was. I love playing there. I love kentucky. It's mile mater. But i really just at the time. I just needed an adult or to be like. Hey man put their arm around. Say it's okay what you're doing. You're not wrong. And because they were the ones that were wrong. there was nobody wrecks. You've gotta be shitting me. They're really there there with somebody and you know there's somebody in you know i'm not going to throw it out there but yeah there was somebody there with me on the staff but he also at the time. He was a young person on the staff but rex part i. I didn't know that part because the part. I'm marveling at okay. You have to understand what. Rex chapman was coming up. This is great white. Hope stuff this is a like. He's athletic as anybody. And so he could play with anybody and he's coming up through kentucky with all that means in terms of basketball tradition and he's a child hero at the very beginning in terms of savior stuff. And are you shitting me. Rex kentucky came down on your neck about the idea of dating a black woman. And you had to do that in private. That wasn't that long ago mid eighties early eighties mid eighties. I look i. I i never in the moment. I never really let cosso dude. I'm eighteen and i'm not done anything in basketball. I think i'm going to play basketball. And most of it. When i look back at it makes it even angrier because most of it was couched in just looking out for your for your what your resume your best interest. You're you're looking out for for your you. Know your market ability unjust. Look no ooh a thousand times over. But that explains i was. I was wondering right. You've got this great twitter account that just seems to have everything i in terms of viral videos. You've created a wonderful creative place where people can go and laugh and it's almost. It's almost sweet. What you do on there and every once in a while. There's an acid filled race opinion from that platform. And i'm like you go in go. Rex chapman mike. You go berry. Everyone show them silly videos and then force them to eat this shit as you rail against. What's happening in america right now. Good for you as an adult. Rex chapman to tell everyone themselves. Because of what they did you while you're at kentucky that's unbelievable you kentucky fans have always been great to be. It was a period of time. They've been great to me sense. But yeah you real men with the blocker. Charged me over the head with something. Funky look for you man. I just. I didn't realize that that's what you were doing as a plan as a devious plan you know making getting revenge for thirty four years of his on here. I'll show somebody fall on their face and a bicycle. And then what. They're facing drafts. And also you will hear me as i mitch mcconnell that dude office since i was sixteen. That's unbelievable you said before. I would do anything to play i would do. I'd get on the court. Whatever the pain was the greatest or most extreme manifestation of that would be what My my interesting brought that up. Because i was eighty. Anthony davis just missed the rest of the place with a groin. My it would have been the lockout year. I was playing really well played in phoenix. And we played the spurs in the first round We were the foresee. They were the five seed. Tim duncan's rookie year. And we had beat them all year. Long i kinda had my way with spurs that year. Just i had a good matchup and i mean average. Probably twenty five game and so. I pulled my hamstring. The last play of the regular season in los angeles and missed game. One sat out play game. Two played great. We won game two right at the end of game too..

Because he's got a new podcast out Charges with rex chapman. We'll talk about that in a second. But what i'd like the audience to know is the way that you talk about some of the stuff you've lived dude the way the new talk about some of the stuff that you've been through is more honest than most places. I hear especially in sports. Especially where people care about how they're perceived i. I wish i hadn't done done stuff to have to talk about it. But i have Yeah you know what. I thanks for having me on. I miss seeing poppy everyday. Not used so much but hoppy i miss by yes. You're not alone there. Rex thank you. I know i gave the asshole television show and he's stolen from it he just stole from. I'm aware thank you Now but no. Thanks for having me. I you know that year in miami was fine. We weren't very good but You know i came down there and got to know you set sat with many days after practices and whatnot. Yeah dan i played forever Played in college played an nba. Got a very sick. I got a significant Painkiller problem when i finished playing doctor gave me oxycontin for a routine Appendix surgery in two thousand and for about eighteen months. I spent the better part of that time. Just in a fog of oxycontin. I was taken. Maybe forty bike in ten oxycontin day. Just chewing them up and getting them into my system. And i spent thirteen fourteen years just in and out of rehab and whatnot got in trouble in two thousand fourteen arrested went to jail had to go back to rehab finally got clean and you know for last night was two thousand fourteen so for the last six or seven years. It's been trying to you know. Continue to do the next right thing doing things like this. Amazing 'cause i remember time. Five years ago i was toxic toxic. Nobody wanted to talk to me so it's just been a process. I've got a lot of good friends that have helped me build my life back up and couldn't be more thankful one of the reasons i love talking to athletes. Who were as vulnerable as you though. Because this is what i always thought from afar. And i don't know you this way this way rex but i always thought that wherever it is. That pain medication killer started. I thought that was partially about the body. And i'm watching from faraway. But i'm like oh this guy doesn't know how to deal with the end of his identity and sports dying. It's so much easier. I don't think this is physical. I think this emotional. It is so hard to make that transition wrecks and you a star early. Yeah you're you're you're spot on its arrested development you know. I probably didn't really develop much past age. Seventeen or eighteen even into my thirties and forties. So i went straight from playing and it was you know had seven surgeries my last three years. And you know i was hurt a lot. I just was dying to play. I would do anything to play. So yeah i just It probably started with supposed to be for pay but for sure it was the first for the psychological not dealing with you know i was in a tough marriage because of me and my depression and you know sort of mental illness. Kinda stuff And i started self medicating and that's that's pretty much it. It took me. You know. Till i'm forty five years old before I really took stock of what was going on inside my own head. Try to figure out. Why was doing things so you are trying to bear looking You were trying to bury looking at it right. You didn't want to look at the analysis that comes with i. My career is over. This is who i've always been. I'm supposed to grieve this now in my thirties. I gotta agree. I've got the rest of my life ahead of me. But i i don't want to look at this. I'm because rex the amount that you were using. I've heard you talk about the detail that is crazy. Yeah l. is just a good thing that i i wasn't a drinker if i was a drinker during that time and mixing that with alcohol for sure be dead. I have friends that have died. You know obviously we know of the famous people. Who've died from opioids in this kind of this epidemic over the last twenty years. I feel fortunate to be here to be able to to share the story. I remember being in rehab and rick pitino came to see me in rehab and I was in louisville and he came and he said he looked at me. And i was crying and just numb kinda and i said i'm toxic. Nobody's ever going to want anything to do with me and you know. He just looked at me and said rex. You're going to help a lot of people with the story. This is your story and it snapped back and said this is not my story. Guess what dad. It's my story. rex you are. I can say this without equivocation. I imagine this is the life. You've lived your help and a hell of a lot more people now than you ever did. When you were flying across the sky for anybody with a basketball yeah i hope so. I hope so. 'cause it's not fun to talk about. I'd rather come on and talk about the the nets and the bucks and the sons. The sons in the nuggets last night. But i you know gotta gear up for it. And i honestly because i'll go speak to. You know i speak to groups and whatnot. And i'm kinda gotta get motivated to do it. 'cause it's it's painful every time you know when i think about but think about shoplifting. The apple store. I did that. I did that what i mean i. It just doesn't i dan. You know. I had never been in trouble with my life. Never done a thing wrong. Been sort of a a model. Nba off the court guy and so to reconcile that day in and day out still at this point is still difficult. Take us through because this has become a part of who you are. But i want people to understand the specifics wrecks of how this happens to somebody because i can totally picture that this only happens because your living a life unexamined right. I would fit a whole lot of people. Think well pain pain. And he's trying to get on the court. The emotional part of this i think is harder than the physical part of it and the physical heart is. The physical part is planning hard. Yeah very much. So the you know really is just basically boiling down to know what i had no idea for so long. What was from the time. I was in college. You know when from the outside looking in in the eighties. I'm sure people thought. I had the world by the tail. And maybe maybe i did. And maybe i should have felt that way. But i didn't. I can remember being in college and just wanting to spend most of the time now wasn't practicing in the bed for sure signs of depression and then i got into the nba and most of my teammates. I was the youngest player in the league. At nineteen kareem was forty one. Most of my teammates were married. So i'd go to practice. And i'd come home and i didn't drink or spoke or party or anything like that and i would sleep and i would so.

This is my big name. I think Covid has done some really interesting things in terms of people saving money and also suppressing some of those instincts that we have to travel abroad. And do all those things as we don't destroy we're gonna be stuck here for a little while so it's really interesting. Seeing how people are translating that into into creativity and Into some you proceeds and is really fascinating with the money. Money supply people are starting to spend some of those that was squirreling away. What's happening with the property market. What's happening around climate change. What's happening in technology and being at the cross section of that business. That that's definitely got me jumping up and down with excitement at the moment. It's extraordinary such an amazing time for the industry. Such extraordinary time for the industry to make hype all the signs but also kind of knowing that this really strong fundamentals that are driving some of the gross and some of the activity that we saying. It's a really big macro changes. It's just an exciting time. Who wouldn't be jumping up and down.

Who Laps Whom on the Walking Track, Tyrannosaurus Rex or You?
"One has ever seen tarinah source walk. Still movies like jurassic park have guessed how fast it would have done that now. Scientists have used the skeleton of t. Rex to model the bio mechanics of the animals stride and they've estimated its dreaded at a leisurely pace on par with humans. Ostriches elephants and giraffes. And it's not just limited to those animals. Horses gazelles news. Turns out that actually. Most animals don't tend to walk. Superfast pasha von beyeler is a movement. Scientists had variety university in amsterdam. His team studied the skeleton of not. Rex housed in a dutch museum. The specimen nicknamed tricks is exceptionally well preserved. So they were able to. How ligaments would have attached to and linked to the animal's tail bones. Those ligaments they would've acted like rubber bands and the researchers used mathematical modeling to study. How they would have given the tail bounce as the t. rex. The animal could have taken advantage of that natural bouncy rhythm to save energy as it moved that is basically resonance you get more movement for less effort if you choose to correct rhythm at which you do things so that helped estimate the beat which t rex would have pounded its feet but to determine speed. They still needed to know how far each step was and to do that. We found fossilized track way of a slightly smaller through sword. Skilled it up to the size of our t. rex and that gives you a step length. Multiple is step length by step rhythm and you get a speed of one point two eight meters per second or about two point nine miles per hour. The results were published by the royal society. Von bildt says he's seen a lot of headlines stating that humans could have outpaced t rex. Not so he says. Once the animal started running. I guess we should be glad that there's a lot of time between us and t-rex

"Yes. So there is sort of a workaround in that sense, though. So most of these amino acids, there's a few exceptions. But most of them are only capable of flipping to the right hand of version. If they are at the terminal ends of the protein sequence or if they're free amino acids, so it's actually correlated with a protein breakdown. And so you're in a text twenty two if you want to claim that, oh, you know, we're getting a super recent signature for these amino acids, because the collagen is just so exceptionally well preserved well then there, better be. A whole bunch of other lines of evidence. For example, the amino acid profile better, be similar to collagen in it is very much not. And so the sum total of all the evidence is more consistent with non collagen. Proteins that are recent. So do you think this is the, the final nail in the confident of the t Rex collagen claims or have you heard from the other side was the response? Well, the only things I hear from the other side, or what's published in the literature in a expect the debate to go on as for me? I mean, I'm pretty convinced I, I, I think that the oldest protein, sequences three point eight million from these, these fossil eggshells I think that it could be extended a bit farther back beyond that. All right, will very interesting. It's something I've been following into his first published because they'll idea of T Rex proteins, the media loves it. And that's the headlines. Always reported that without a hint of skepticism, but I. I don't know if I buy that it's, it's interesting be it'd be cool, but it definitely was pushing the limits of what had already been established. So I'm not surprised that it looks like more likely to have been basically modern contamination and sounds like your study supports that conclusion pretty solidly. I would say, yes, there appears to be significant microbial community, leave ending even within berry Bom when it's on exposed, a right will ever, thank you so much for sharing research with us. "So if you think about that looking at this, this could be either right? This could be a T Rex just killed and his start to triceratops, or it could be a T Rex as walk along in his found dead triceratops, and there's nothing about this mouth that helps. You know which is which, because we don't know. Well, it turns out that we probably do know, there've been a couple of cases where. Animal. That's an ad Montessori duckbilled dinosaur. There have been a couple of Montessori duck. Billed dinosaurs found with t Rex bite marks on their tail that have reeled you talking about this big kind of smaller one behind. Yes. So imagine if you're a T Rex and you, if you bit the back end of Bill dinosaur that was alive got away. And it Rehelim that would be evidence that the t Rex is trying to eat you. When you were alive as opposed to finding a bite Mark. That didn't repeal, but it could be both couldn't it could be a predator and scavenger. And I think that's of course. Most predators are scavengers. I mean, most predators will eat anything that comes along dead or they don't care. They just want food, but to say something's only scavenger is almost sort of misleading phrase of my, my own view of the world. So I think that what you have here is a predator who would eat anything wanted whatever it wanted to the museum after pay for this t Rex. No, we got this on loan from the army corps of engineers. It was found on. Federal land managed by the US Army Corps of engineers, and they had it stored at the museum of the Rockies and Moseman and they had to be Rex's from the same place. And we politely asked him to borrow one of them, and they said, well, yes, you can borrow our T Rex because we're both part of the federal government. If you look up at the tail of T Rex what do you notice about the brackets will first thing I noticed is that they're brackets not driven through the, the bone. So to all the bones have them we're just some. No, there's I can see a bracket that's like twenty or twenty five slides entail. And then there's another one about nine ten. And then there is a string of bracket. Yeah. So they're not all bracketed. What you're seeing those careful brackets like that. The things that would bracket a stone onto a ring every time you see a bracket you're looking at a real fossil bone, every time you don't see a bracket you're looking at a cast or reproduction of the bones. The skeleton is not totally complete, but the rare fossil bone. We use those brackets to basically class, the bones in place. This is kind of different from some of the other fossils that I've seen where they might like drill it or, you know, they'll, they'll go through the bone to hold them together and the host them. We don't want to do that because this is a rare fossil so our ideas Bill is very beautiful elegant class that claps the bone firmly. Hold it in place. So the Boehner's protected, but when we have a cast would destroy a holding just made a plaster so you could see the thing with the tail is only that one vertebrae.

"How did it get back up? I'm not saying it would be impossible. It just seems very awkward, of course, we're bipedal, and we can get up from the ground, but we have long arms and strong upper bodies to help us. Try lying down on the ground. And then getting up without using your arms at all you can probably do it. But it's not so easy. Is it in the T? Rex probably has an even lower relative center of mass than you. So what's going on? Like was this much of a struggle for the T Rex every time it had to get up from the ground. That's a great question. Well, I've been wondering this for awhile. I finally looked it up. There's actually a really good explainer on this incentive American provided by the paleontologist, Gregory Erickson of Florida State University. And so here's what in says first of all there has long been a dispute over exactly what the T Rex is tiny four limbs were four, maybe, you know, one idea says, maybe they're just vestige, meaning they're actually not good for much of anything at all. And they only existed in diminished form because the wrecks hadn't fully lost them yet. And then the next stadia says, we'll maybe they're grasping arms used in copulation. And then the next idea says, maybe there's some sort of meat hook for feeding chunks of. Flesh into the mouth, though, this hypothesis was beaten down when it became clear that the arms of T Rex could not reach its mouth. Yeah. This is one of those things that when we went to the the the museum in Chicago. The field museum that became obvious you go up to the arm of the fossil bones of t Rex arm. They are the size of my arm. But the T Rex is the size of a two story house, and it clearly this is a shrunken limb. Exactly. But another hypothesis is that the baby arms were useful, exactly four helping the T. Rex get back up when it was lying on the ground. So in the year, nineteen seventy British paleontologist Barney, Newman's speculated that maybe the arms could help the T Rex to do a thing can like a push up. It would be a push up motion where the where it would help the wrecks. Keep from sliding forward along the ground as it tried to raise its body to a standing position just imagine trying to rise without anything to brace you like lie. Flat on your stomach and then try to push yourself up to standing using your legs alone. You might be able to do it. But it's not easy. It's a lot easier. Few museums arms, right? And it would requires a fair amount of sort of coiling and slithering around for for most people. I think and it's it's easier to imagine that kind of movement in our bodies as opposed to the T Rex. Yes. So Erickson says, you know, now, we know more about the bio mechanics of the T Rex than we did back when these ideas were authorized, so of course, the number one is we mentioned the arms can't reach them out the mouth, so the meat hook theory. That's dead. One thing we have learned is that t Rex arms were often broken during life as opposed to in an injury that immediately caused death. And this tells us some interesting things first of all it tells us that the arms were probably kinda bad, whatever the Rex's were using them for and number two. They were not absolutely necessary for survival. The fact that we could have like examples of them having healed or not immediately. Killed. The wrecks means that erects could break arm and survive for at least a month afterward, if an animal in the wild breaks survival essential limb that I mean that animals generally pretty much done for right. Like, a cheetah breaking a leg etcetera. It's it's it's done. And this suggests four limbs that were not survival essential. Also, though, the wrecks arms would have been strong by our standards like he says, they could probably curl four hundred pounds. They would not have had strong enough bone structure in the wrists to lift what he calls large mechanical loads and that would include the wrecks zone body. So this means Newman's push-up hypothesis is probably wrong, right?.
