"But this is also why I say this all the time in this podcast. If I go by my friends, family, people on Twitter, just all the football fans I know and what I hear. The thing football fans are more interested in than anything right now outside of who's going to win the Super Bowl is what's happening with Sunday ticket because it's off direct TV after this year. And is it going to be Apple? Is it going to be Google? Like fans are dying to know. Sunday ticket is a very, very big deal for the people who like to watch the best games each week. So I live by it. I know you didn't ask you. You don't care, but I'll tell you anyway. My son is like, we do. Can I wait, wait, wait, I just want to say something. On my list of dotes, I don't like questions. I said, how do you watch games on Sunday afternoon? There you go. See? So I was going to ask. I feel better now. No, no, I want to do it now. But on Sundays, we do a production meeting in the morning, I get a workout and then come back to the room and open my computer and start doing my notes. Just to go back over everything that we're really ready for at that point for the game. And then you're in a market. So I look at that website. It's 5 O 6 sports. So I like to know what games are going to be on in whatever city we're in. So you watch one game, and then I will usually put on my iPad, red zone channel. And I'm a DirecTV subscriber. So I get silly on those. It's cool. Both Scott Hansen and Andrew siciliano, both Syracuse alums. So I've taken care of the family business no matter what and Cecilia, I know Andrew really well. So I love he does an unbelievable job. There's a great job. I tweet out Andrew's doing a great job or if I do. People like, what about Hanson? I'm like, I'm sorry, I don't get Hanson, but I know he does a great job too. Can I just tell you one thing? It wasn't until I after 20 years of having DirecTV and then I cancel it. And then that first season I started to try to get into Sunday ticket. And I'm in this business, had no idea there were two different red zones. I had no idea. It's crazy. It's crazy. I was an idiot. And they're both great, but you're right. They're both called the same thing. So I will watch that on my iPad and then the game that's on in our market wherever we are. And it depending on who we have the next week or in two weeks, then you go, oh, they're going to pay more attention to this. When we were in LA a few weeks ago for chiefs chargers, bills Vikings was on the local Fox station, the great digs, the great Justin Jefferson catch and back and forth with digging Jefferson in that game. So I ended up watching that game more than the red zone channel because I was getting ahead on buffalo and Minnesota for that one. So I'll do that. And then usually we'll leave for the stadium somewhere after the early games and right around when the late games are starting and then I'll watch on a phone or iPad on the drive to the game.

"Fans, including our colleague Tom finale, is that even if I had Illinois lower than some, maybe most, I thought the top 6 or so of the top 6 or 7 of the Big Ten could reasonably go in almost any order. And the truth is I didn't have Maryland in that group at all. I don't think anybody did. And yet here they are. Terrapin 7 and O and it's not just 7 and O it's 7 double digit victory. They're killing everybody. You know, you mentioned them beating St. Louis. Beat St. Louis by 28. Now that's the St. Louis team that has beaten Memphis. And Memphis looks solid. It's a St. Louis team that went to auburn and played auburn tight. Auburn is obviously good, and Marilyn beat that team's brains in. And then beat Miami by 18. And so they'd gone from 56 to 18th. At Ken palm, through these 7 games, which means they're not just winning. They're obviously performing at a high level as well. And I've got them up to 20th in the top 25 and one. So this is, you know, again, it's early and they're going into a tough league schedule soon. But if you're a Maryland fan who was hoping, Kevin Willard can return you to some level of prominence, then the early returns literally could not be better than what they are right now. They could not. Jamie young, as I mentioned before, he's been, he's been a valuable addition to that. And by nature of Illinois, just runaway win over Syracuse, 73, 44 home win, which also, I had that game on. I was like, I'm getting weird vibe off this, like Syracuse on the road against Illinois, November. It looked weird. It turns out it was the first time those programs had faced each other since the elite 8 in 1989, the year that Illinois obviously made a push to the title game there. But Illinois got the runaway win to remain, will not remain unbeaten. They've got the lawsuit, Virginia, which also won all these things are connected, Virginia gets the win on the road against Michigan there. So the Big Ten is, yeah, it's a fun little jumble at the top. I actually think, give it another two, three weeks. I think it might have it now, it's got a bigger league volume wise than the big 12. So the big 12 will probably rate better. But once the route ten, Big Ten might have a chance to be eye to eye with the big 12, kind of wait and see on that. But I think there's, I think there's a chance, at least with the early returns, again, a few more games and non conference played before we can definitively make that case overall. But right now, to this point in the season, big 12 Big Ten, I think, are comfortably the two best leagues in the country, and performances from Maryland speak to that. How about this? The Big Ten right now has 11 teams ranked in the top 50 at Ken palm. Didn't even realize that, yeah, there you go. 11 teams between 7 and 49. If you want a specific Purdue is 7, Indiana's at ten, Illinois at 15 Maryland at 18, Ohio State at 20, Iowa 23. Michigan state at 30, Penn State at 35, Rutgers at 36, Wisconsin at 45. And Michigan at 49. And so those teams, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan all remain in the top 50, even though they all took close, tough losses in the ACC Big Ten challenge. Penn State went to, I think, double over time at Clemson and lost by definition that to close one. Wisconsin, like Tyree appleby, Florida transfer, who's now at wake forest, went big, got 32 points. Led with lead wake forest to a win at Wisconsin. And then Virginia, like you mentioned, that's the team that top Michigan on the road. You know, jet Howard had a, well, he had the ball at the buzzer. He didn't really get a shot off Virginia really to bottled him up. And I'll be honest, I was watching in real time. It looked like a foul? In real time. On my first look, I was like, because what I saw, what I saw in real time was ball go up, arms stay down, and that is typically, that's how that happens. Ball goes up, arm stays down, somebody got your arm. But you went back and looked at it in slow motion from different angles. I thought it was a good non whistle. And so Virginia gets out of there with a big win. But so you've got their Wisconsin losing pin state losing Michigan losing, but they still all remain in the top 50 at Ken pom. So the big tent's got 11 teams in the top 50 at Kim pom. I do want to circle back real quick to this Maryland thing. And I promise when I talk about this every show, we're not going to talk about this every week. But it is a national story. And a significant college basketball story. I had somebody tweet me, I guess yesterday and say, when is Louisville being bad going to stop being a story? Well, never. Just like when Kentucky's bad, it's a story. When duke is bad, it's a story. This is one of the biggest basketball programs in this country. And they're now Owen 7, I think everybody knows the facts now. Only the second power conference team in the past 40 years to start a season O one 7, the other is this season's Cal team. So we went like 39 years without this ever happening. And now Cal and Louisville are both zero and 7 from power conferences this season. The Cardinals, they've lost their four games against power conference opponents by an average of 25.5 points.

"I just said, Alabama was still up 7 late at Tennessee. Yes, this version of Alabama is down. Bryce young is played Houdini. But I think there's a few things worth mentioning here, a couple of you guys have hit on, but I can expound on a little bit. But if you listen to Nick Saban on Monday, he went scorched earth during the presser. Doesn't love what the coaching staff is doing isn't happy with some of the players. And he basically said, we can't continue to tolerate guys that aren't doing the things they need to be successful. Nobody is entitled to a position. We've got to make players more accountable. We need to get them to understand the consequences of what happens when you don't do the little things right. We need to play somebody else. There's always a little fear that goes with respect and respecting what it takes to win. You should know that. My job could be in jeopardy. If I don't respect the things I need to do to win. And so there's been this underlying hinting of some lineup changes coming. And I think that's something to keep an eye on. Maybe we see Tyler Herald this week. I think this when you look at how they've performed off of a loss, certainly lines up Alabama's way. The other thing here is Alabama's offensive line has not played well. And I think we kind of envisioned that when you're hitting the transfer portal and getting vandy transfers in, I know, decent player, but not the caliber that you would expect at Alabama. I'm not sure Mississippi front 7 is the unit that takes advantage of that area of weakness. Alabama should be able to run right at Mississippi state. State doesn't create much havoc, you can move them in the trenches. Mississippi outside the top 90 and adjusted line yards. Last week against Kentucky stayed allowed 2.3 yards per rush before first contact. Another 2.7 yards per rush after first contact. So they couldn't tackle. LSU, similar story, 2.7 yards per rush allowed before first contact, 2.7 after. And then you go back and I know it was going to win. But Arkansas without KJ Jefferson rushed for nearly 250 yards on state. And then the final thing I think you consider here is everyone will look at what Tennessee did through the air against Bama and to a lesser extent Texas while Quinn Uber was in the game and think Mike leach's offense loves to chuck. It should do well here. Maybe that happens. But the offense is the way they pass the ball or just so much different. Henin hooker is going to challenge you. His a dot is 12.2 yards this year. The vols love to pressure you deep. Will Rogers a dot is 6. Mississippi state doesn't really hit you deep. There's only one qualifying receiver on Mississippi state that averages more than two yards per route run. Tennessee has two guys that average three yards per out run and two more that average above two. This to your point as I think why we're seeing Nick Saban's defense have success the last few years. Because Mississippi states controlled passing offense doesn't really offer many rickles, right? It's just been very easy to stop and to your point. That's why you've seen 9 points. The last two meetings against with leech against Sabin because just this very dink and dunk short pass offense that doesn't come with much variety and Sabin is able to sniff that out defensively. We always talk about perception versus reality as well, gentlemen. And to think about what this number would be if Alabama not just one at Tennessee, but one uncovered. If Kool-Aid McKinsey's interception that we can say what we want about the pass interference call stands, Alabama has a chance to take a 7 point lead to double digits. There's probably a realistic chance that this number is significantly higher. Now you get a razor focused Alabama team. So it's buyer beware here to Brad's point. We know what some of the numbers may suggest, but I'm not sure I'd want any part of Mississippi state in this particular spot. From Tuscaloosa to Baton Rouge, where LSU will welcome in the old miss rebels and you're looking right now at LSU a short favorite under a field goal here. We have seen the favorite flip from where this number opened up with old miss modest wrote favorites. Total on the game 66 and a half and it kind of set the stage here. The rebels are looking for their first 8 no start in 60 years since going ten and O beating Arkansas in the sugar bowl and claiming a share of the national championship as well as the SEC title back in 1962. Last week versus auburn, they had their most rushing yards in a game 448 since that 1962 season. Meanwhile, LSU looks to avoid consecutive home losses for just the second time in the last 21 years that lost back to back home games in 2016 before that it hadn't happened since 2001. They have won 6 straight at home versus old miss. Old miss won the matchup last season snapping a 5 game LSU series winning streak. When you look at LSU, they got right offensively last week against the Florida Gators, went through a stretch where they scored touchdowns on 6 straight possessions. Jane Daniels looked apart through rushing touchdowns, three passing touchdowns, a far cry from the in app performance we saw two weeks prior when they welcomed in a top ten Tennessee team and Brian Kelly, gentlemen, wasn't shy about addressing that, saying they use that as a learning experience, paraphrasing here, of course. Wish it hadn't happened in a loss. Brad, as far as the number is concerned, all miss deserved full marks. They're undefeated right now. They've gone out there, but they haven't exceeded expectations when they stepped up in class. We know the market has shifted on them. This feels like a lot of fool's goal to me given the schedule that the rebels have encountered thus far. Yeah, I'm not going to make no bones about it. I am part of the LSU flipping to favorite mode here. And it's not like you guys know me. I'm not a huge Brian Kelly guy, but in this instance, it does come down to the lack of, again, strength to schedule a lack of tough opponents at old misses face so far this season. I kind of thought there was a good chance, at least in the summer that they could start off severino.

"Perfect time for UCLA who had beat big time opponents in their own building in Washington and Utah, Oregon, a much different looking team in the recent run of play than what we saw in the season opener against Georgia, but it does leave some questions about the Oregon offense and who have they really faced thus far. From my standpoint, guys, a fascinating matchup of two quarterbacks that have been much maligned DTR in his 37th year of college football. I feel like he's been there since chip Kelly has been the head coach at UCLA. Meanwhile, Kenny dillingham and Beau Knicks getting the best out of what they can do there. Brad, when you look at these two teams and their full body of work, I know you have been a major UCLA detractor all season long. Are you starting to buy into what the baby blue and gold has accomplished in recent weeks? I am finally. It took a couple of losing bets to finally come around, but I got there after the Utah game. Obviously, I was on the Utah side. I questioned UCLA coming in this season on two fronts. Number one, it was a relatively inexperienced team. I know they went heavy transfer portal. I got to look into that in future years when I'm self scouting myself to what I can do better. And the transfer portal is relatively new. And I wasn't, you know, they brought in a rye of guys, a lot of them. Group of 5 type of talent guys. So I kind of questioned the overall talent level for UCLA, but they've exceeded expectations. And then at least early on in the season, I just thought they benefited from playing a weak schedule, but I am sold now after back to back performances against Washington and Utah, although I will say, this is their first true road test. I mean, Colorado does not. Colorado doesn't count necessarily in boulder. So I'm interested to see how they react in this environment, but I will say, obviously it helps having an experienced head coach and obviously an experienced quarterback to possibly handle this environment. Because it should be one of the better environments we've seen in the PAC 12. Big thing, welcome back to big time college football pack 12 conference. It seems like now we're finally talking about you every week. There's a significant game. First top ten matchup in the conference in four years. It's a game that I think has some intriguing storylines, but on the positive side, at least running the window to bet and fade UCLA. At least at this point. Of all weeks, too, Brad, amazing. You're still taking shots to Colorado in the wake of an upset outright upset of Cal as a two touchdown plus underdog becoming the last team to get knocked from the ranks of the winless side and get their first win of the season. Payne, I'll open up the floor to you here. I mean, normally we go on a logical progression. When you're looking at this game from an X's and O's standpoint, which side of the ball fascinates you the most in terms of dictating how we're going to see things unfold at Austin stadium on Saturday. Yeah, I know we're going to get to both sides, but what's intriguing to me and why this is really difficult for me is metrically you put these two teams next to each other and they are very similar. You have too offenses in the top 5 range of schedule just efficiency. Two defenses just inside that top 45 rank and schedule adjusted efficiency. You have two quarterbacks to your point at the top that can look like Heisman winners one second and leave your scratch in your head the next, but both playing more like Heisman candidates. Their top ten and QBR because of the added dimension of their legs. And I think you hit it perfectly and this is new territory for UCLA with a lot of new parts, a lot of young parts. This is their first true road test where fans will have an impact Austin is going to be rocking for chip's return. You've heard multiple UCLA offensive lineman talk about the focus for the last ten days. Being about communication and the bruins pumping in music and crowd noise trying to simulate that atmosphere. Matchup wise, you know, organs been playing a bunch of four two 5 nickel. They showed lots of three, three, 5 against Arizona to get more speed on the field. UCLA has to be able to run it. That's their calling card. Though line has been dominant, if you look top 6 in both adjusted line yards and stuff right allowed for that bruins O line. DTR mobility is just really tough to stop. And then Zach, right? Averaging 1.8 yards per team play. I do question some of the run defenses UCLA's faced. You look at Brad alluded to the first four weeks being pretty soft. We thought Washington's defense was a paper Tiger. We know how much they lost there and Utah defensively has struggled a little bit to stop the run to the point where they've tried implementing 5 defensive linemen for some of these key games. Oregon will be by far the toughest unit UCLA's played in terms of stopping the run. And you look at the three best opponents on organ schedule in BYU wazoo and Georgia, the ducks held BYU to 0.8 yards before first contact per rush negative 0.2 against wazoo. And even in the opener against Georgia, the dog's averaged 2.1 yards before first contact would just slightly below the national average. That's game one of a brand new scheme with Dan landing. The ducks have shown an ability to defend the run. Where UCLA needs to do some damage and the reason why Dan lanning has been playing with 5 plus defensive backs frequently. The ducks are 46th out of 65 power 5 teams and opponent adjusted EPA per pass allowed. It's been struggle bus in the back for the duck secondary. So you have to have DTR and Jake Bobo. Take advantage through the Arctic. I think stay within this number, guys. Brad, when you look at these two teams and obviously strength to schedule, such a massive part of what everybody does when they're handicapping college football, even this late into the season. As far as Oregon's full body of work and the emphasis you place on that George game, does that just become an outlier for what we've seen from the ducks when you talk about the step up in class, some of the intangibles there and look more at how they perform against PAC 12 opponents when you assess that not only for this week against UCLA. But what they can be going forward on both sides of the ball. Absolutely. Unique situation for Oregon and then open are obviously taking a major step up in class, but the fact that you had an apprentice

"Thanks. But you look at what Syracuse has done and it's a great story. And you like it. But this is just a totally different animal they're going against here. I have to think that a lot of the college basketball fans out there get discouraged when they hear us break down. Kansas gets a deep dive this season for the first time in program history around Beth the board Syracuse gets a deep dive for the first time in a while and here we are just casting aspersions in their direction, saying these seasons have kind of come out of nowhere in the market hasn't quite caught up. Brad, when you look at Clemson and Syracuse, how much of you adjusted these two teams respectively from where they started this season. Suffice to say Clemson about the same in Syracuse is obviously been the major beneficiary. Oh yeah, no doubt out there. I mean, even though pain mentioned higher on Syracuse, at least relative to market coming in in the season, I still had to upgrade them 6 points, even though they haven't played that tough of a schedule. You have to respect the job that they've done. And especially on the defense side of the ball, I know they haven't faced a who's who, as far as opposition there. But I really like what they're doing on their second year defensive coordinator Tony white. So 6 point upgrade for Syracuse. Clemson, they're on beaten, but I'm here to tell you, I've downgraded them slightly. Defense is not med expectation. Offense is improved, but coming into the season, my thought process was sure we have the big three, Alabama, Ohio, state and Georgia, who's that 14, at least for me, it was Clemson. They haven't lived up to at least to that expectation as far as I'm concerned, even though they're unbeaten. Almost would love to see a Ron Robin of sorts between Clemson, Michigan, and Tennessee at this point to see who of those teams which could actually go out there. Take advantage of a couple of tactical advantages. One last thing on this game pain and Brad brought it up when you look at Clemson's defense, we talked about obviously and not living up to pre season hype thus far. Offensively, do you see any edges that Clemson can exploit against this rapidly improving Syracuse defensive front? Yeah, you know, listen, I think we all kind of get the Clemson's offense has improved and it's happened for a number of reasons, right? Getting rid of Tony Elliott is DJ U drop in 30 pounds and being that extra man advantage in the run game has helped. You look all told Clemson's offense was outside the top 70 and schedule just efficiency last season. Now it's a fringe top 25 offense through 7 weeks. It's certainly not back to championship run seasons with Trevor Lawrence and the one thing that's kind of interesting as I watch Clemson. They don't really have go to aspects, whether it's certain formations or at certain players. But across the board, the one thing that you see with Clemson is they're buttoned up and they're situationally fantastic. They're converting red zone trips into touchdowns at a top 20 rate. They turn quality possessions into points at the top 5 rate. Clemson's offense has been really aided by good field position and they've been damn good converting on late downs. Now those things don't necessarily sound sustainable, but it's still a huge improvement year over year. And I think the one thing that you guys have hinted at is Syracuse defensively has improved. But what's interesting is Tony white plays this really attacking three three 5 defense that he likes to call them up. It leaves them light in the box at times in Syracuse has to run blitz to fill gaps. That's why you have a Syracuse defense that's still 95th and rushing success allowed 99th and stuff right a 110th an opportunity right out in their outside the top 100 in EPA per Russia out. That's something to think about here. Syracuse does a really good job creating havoc. So when they run blitz this week, pay attention to this, right? You have to make DJ U change direction immediately when he's a runner. He's more of a builder. Shipley obviously has some wiggle and maf has come on strong, but he's also a guy you want to make change direction. If Syracuse can quickly make Moffat and DJ you change direction as runners, they might not get beat up as badly on the ground as the metric suggests. Now, Syracuse loves its corners and secondary. They've been great down to down through the air. They've limited some explosiveness there. But I do question again the competition. You look at the first four games of the season. Syracuse faced passing offense on average that are currently 90th in EPA per pass. Then back to back weeks against Owens 6 FCS Wagner who attempted 6 passes all games so they could speed things up. Then you got to Brad's point a backup in Jack chambers from NC state who can't throw the forward pass. You look at Clemson again. I don't know if DJ used proven to be like the 5 star guy, but he certainly lost the weight. He's worked on his footwork. He's worked on his base. He's not a leap by any stretch. But the intended air yards are up year over year adjusted completion percentage up clean pocket. Up under pressure up QBR upright turnover worthy players are down. It's all better this season than last. And so I think this is interesting. While we like those corners for Syracuse, they certainly have not been tested at any point this season. And you know what pain you mentioned will shiply obviously Clemson at a game plan for his usage rate coming into the season. I mean, he carried the ball 32 times through the first three games of the season. Since then, he's averaged 16 carries a game with a season high last week against Florida state at 20. And maybe we got a glimpse of who Clemson's deep threat can be Antonio Williams with a big play against the seminoles last weekend. It has a long of 22 or more yards and four of his last 5 games. We'll see if the vertical passing threat is there. When the orange invade Clemson South Carolina. From the east coast to the West Coast, gentlemen, and a massive game in the PAC 12 pecking order. It's UCLA taking on Oregon and Oregon right now, a 6 point favorite total in this game 69 and a half. It's down a touch from where this price would have been set during the summer months with Oregon slightly more than a touchdown favorite. You look at chip Kelly. This will be his third return trip to Eugene, but this time the game actually means something in the big picture. Oregon won its third straight in the series last season at the rose bowl by 34, 31 score line following a typical back and forth game that featured a big Oregon comeback from down 14 nothing and UCLA almost being able to erase that deficit themselves coming up just short. Both teams, fresh off of buy week, so a

"Kansas state is going to be successful and pull off the upset here, even with the rest advantage working in their favor, one of the things that this group does so well is their discipline. As far as the penalty yardage they yield, they make you move the ball methodically down the field against that defense. But the $100 million question, Adrian Martinez is clearly experienced to renaissance. You look at what he means this offense, both with his arm and his legs and that's been outstanding. But does Kansas state have enough firepower in your estimation to put a TCU defense on skates that has been a little bit vulnerable in recent weeks when they step up in class? I think that's the path. You envision Kansas state being able to play bully in the trenches on offense with deuce Vaughn and Adrian Martinez. And that's the one thing that's been interesting about Martinez is he didn't want to turn the ball over this year. And we saw coming into the Oklahoma game that their head coach was kleinman was like, let's let this thing rip a little bit more. It's great. You're taking care of the ball, but we need to be a little bit more aggressive. And we saw that for two weeks. Obviously, not the case against Iowa state. But I think with this specific match up, it's going to be those two guys legs on the ground. And right now, deuce Vaughn is really just picked up where he left off last year. He's averaging 1.9 yards per team play. Kansas state's offensive line 17th in opportunity. That's our ranking again that credits both the O line and the running backs gaining at least four yards when four yards are blocked. TCU defensively, 66th in adjusted line yards outside the top 100 and stuff right outside the top 50 in EPA per Russia out. Not only have they been poor stopping the run, but you couple that with what you guys talked about at the top of exerting all of this energy for big games. Meanwhile, Kansas states got the buy week just kind of waiting in the weeds. I think that's something that's interesting here. And the other thing that you have to consider is we've seen nothing but one way traffic both side in total. TCU opened as high as 6. We're now down to three and a half, some four still out there a couple places. Total. Whacked from 59 to 55 and a half yesterday at this time and then around 9 a.m. this morning, that second wave came through to 54 and a half through the largest key number in college football 55. Points are becoming more valuable and you think about why that's happening. It's twofold. As we record this Wednesday morning, 20 mph winds are in the forecast. Keep monitoring that obviously. But the gusts are approaching the 30 mph range. And you look at TCU, they pass the ball at a 10% higher rate than Kansas state. That's going to impact their style of play more. And that's one thing when you might not have access to the information on who's betting what you can start to read markets and deduce that this total coming down yields the idea that this game is going to be played a little bit more towards Kansas state's style. And just quickly on the other side of the ball, you're looking at a Kansas state defense. That's top ten and EPA per pass allowed. You're thinking to yourself TCU's air attack probably won't be as efficient this week because of those other elements. Brad, it's amazing. Pain picks on me for my bachelor party festivities and all of that. He was so banged up on Broadway. He doesn't even know what day of the week it is that we record these college football podcasts calling it a Tuesday, but he was on such a role. Did I say Tuesday? I had to continue to stay Tuesday. You sure did say too. No, no, no, no. No, I didn't. And I said the line moved this time yesterday. Well, we'll have to pull it back on the recording we'll throw the red challenge flag and see what we got. But I probably did. You're probably right. I agree with you, boys. When you look at this spot, it'll be interesting. If TCU can bring it here and cover this number, then we definitely have to talk about them not only being a legitimate dark horse for the national championship, but max dugan's case to be made for being in the thick of things for the Heisman Trophy, getting that much more substantial. However, when we look at a pair of unbeaten guys, it'll take us to Clemson, South Carolina, and a game I don't think anybody had circled on the calendar before the season started having massive implications in the ACC and national championship race. It's the Clemson tigers, nearly two touchdown favorites at home, as they'll welcome in the Syracuse orange, the total in this game 50 both side and total remain largely unchanged. When you look at Syracuse, they'll head to Clemson looking to extend their best start since 1987 and get out to 7 and notching its second top 5 win its last 18 tries. The only win so far in that span came over the same Clemson tigers back in 2017. Meanwhile, Clemson, they've been the model of consistency looking for a 38th straight home win to break the ACC record. They haven't exactly faced a very daunting schedule during that particular stretch. Brad, when you look at the Syracuse orange, hey, full marks the dino babers and what he's been able to accomplish so far this season. But I go through the resume, I look at the schedule they've played, one true road game so far this year at UConn. How difficult is it to assess, even with multiple data points for the orange? How good this team is right now and how much they should have been upgraded from where you had them to start to season. Yeah, I think it is, again, the number one factor here, here we are in the middle of October.

"Among that see humanity, but it didn't see you guys. I'll tell you this, Brad. About midway through the second quarter because there was four or 5 days of shenanigans leading up to this game. I looked over and Todd's half asleep in the middle of that environment. Oh my God. He was beaten up. Wow. Yeah. But midway through the second quarter, I looked over his dozed off. And said that stadium, how? You know, Brad, what the other part that pain leaves out. We were standing the entire time too. So I fell asleep actually standing up leading on a counter. So it may not have been my finest moment, but a friendly reminder that at 40 years of age, I might not be built for a four day bender tailgating and that type of atmosphere. So even with a 100,000 of my nearest and dearest friends around, I had to get a little bit of shut eye in the middle of the second quarter. Those Tennessee football games take in eternity, guys. You look up, they've run 9 plays in 37 seconds have come off the clock. Yeah, you took a little shut eye like the Alabama defense did there for a while in the second world. I may have been more present than the Alabama defense over the course of the four hours there. Well, of course, get to Alabama and how they bounce back. But gentlemen, a lot of ground to cover and no doubt Brad outstanding job and I think our listeners appreciated us for the no days off theme as Payne and I have taken nothing but shit on the NFL side. Since we didn't have a podcast there for Thursday or Monday. Speaking of undefeated teams, we'll go to Fort Worth Texas to start things off a night game as TCU were welcome in the Kansas state wildcats and you're looking at TCU a three and a half point home favorite. Total on the game 55 and a half, we did see the side open as high as 5 and the total at 59 when you look at what sunny dikes is done. If the frogs can get through this game, they'll be the fourth stringed rake team and match their best start since 2015 at 7 and O when you look at how they perform then they started 7 O and 2017 and got to 8 zero and 2015 with now a very realistic path to the playoff, given their upcoming schedule. Meanwhile, Kansas state, a win for them, would give them the inside track to its first big 12 championship game birth since 2003. That's of course the year Kansas state throttled unbeaten number one 35 to 7 for the big 12 title. When you look at how Kansas state has performed this year, gentlemen, they've scored 61 first quarter points to rank fourth in the big 12. And the wildcats plus 41 scoring margin in the first quarter ranks third in the league. Brad, we talk about it all the time. When you have to bring it week in week out, it can be tough to ratchet up that energy. And you look at the recent run that TCU has been on. SMU and arrival game three straight ranked conference opponents and a lot of one score contests at that Oklahoma notwithstanding. How do you go about adjusting overall season power numbers based on the strength of situation that clearly have to be working in the favor of Chris kleinman's bunch come Saturday? So obviously starting off point for any handicap is just going to be what is your power rating on a game. Now that could be just taking the two teams statistical performances, you're coming up with a power rating and you have that as a starting point. And then for me personally, then I get into situational type stuff. Started the season, I'm not a big situational guy, but we talked prior to a hit and record here. This time of year, the edges are smaller. And you're looking for any added edge that you can possibly find. And I'm here to tell you around this time of year is when I start looking at a little bit more situations. And I think this is one of the bigger edges of the week as far as this game goes with Kansas state, off of by, and like you mentioned, TCU, playing a 5th straight big time game, at least for them. And for me, TCU is not an Ohio State or a Georgia from a depth aspect where they could just continue to roll in guys in and out and you're not going to miss a beat. I just question if TCU can bring an a game here. And because of it, I think it's worth at least a half pointer point. So I'll have my starting off power rating says that the line makes sense, but because I think there is a situational edge for Kansas state that kind of leans me already at the very start of the handicap towards case state here. It makes a ton of sense and it's always one of those things is a handicapper you try and figure out how to quantify revenge. Quantify the third road game in as many weeks. That fourth game or in this case we should say the 5th game is people look at the schedule and go, what's the big deal they played SMU at some massive rivalry, especially for sunny dikes and company and you look at the way that they had a race, a 14 point deficit going into the fourth quarter against Oklahoma state.

"Up in the Syracuse area. One of the issues for the state is affordable housing and certainly back in New York City we have this with affordable housing. Where are you on affordable housing? Because I know there are various proposals about how tax breaks could support multiple dwellings and for a long period of time and really get it down to an affordable level. What are you hoping for in the next legislature? I am going to have a very ambitious housing program, not just affordable, but market rate as well because that is the only barrier in addition to making sure our streets are safe, something I work on with the mayor all the time, but also people want to come to New York. You can tell by the fact that you can not rent an apartment at any price in the city. But in order for workers in these great jobs to be able to live in the community where they work, we have to jump start the whole construction industry of building more homes. And I agree with Texan incentives that need to be back on the books to create the incentives for businesses to do something that is important as a public policy to help us build affordable housing, as well as breaking down a lot of the barriers and the resistance to having a very thoughtful comprehensive housing plan. I'm working on it now as part of my next day, the state. I've got some of the smartest, some of the Bloomberg alumni have come on board as my policy team and they're working with me to develop the greatest ideas we can come up with and I will have a package that I present before the legislature. This is one of my top priorities. So this is something we can figure out the solution here. In addition to the $25 billion that I already allocated last year in our budget to build 100,000 units of which about 10,000 are supportive housing for people who have homelessness, problems or mental health challenges, something where it's an all the above approach to solving this situation. One of the other issues, of course, we have a New York City and therefore New York State has to be concerned about is crime right now. Welcome to our crime. A lot of the response we have to be local. There's no question about that. At the same time, are there things that the state can do to help New York City with the problem with crime right now? And specifically let me ask you, is bail reform material? Is that an important part of fixing the problem? Well, it's a complex answer, but let me take a shot at it. First of all, public safety is my number one priority. This is what keeps me up at night. The horrific crimes that we're seeing. It's frightening for people. But I also have to step back and talk about some of the targeted changes we've already made to the bail chain. This is obviously this was signed into law by my predecessor. The legislature went forth with the changes that they thought were important to make sure that there was public safety and justice in our court system, but we had to bring it back to make sure that judges consider other factors in deciding whether or not someone should be held on bail. They need to know whether or not there's an order of protection, a gun commission of a gun violence crime. So we gave the judges more than they had before. We also said that repeat offenders, people that are stealing off the shelves every day and selling the materials on eBay, they can't keep getting away with that. The property crimes in addition to the violent crimes. So we did make changes to the bail laws. But you have to look at the fact that this has been a nationwide phenomenon. Since the pandemic crime has gone up everywhere, not just one state that happened to have some changes in their bail laws. So we have to look at this in an honest way and say, well, New York City is still the safest big city in America. Look at Chicago. Look at San Francisco. Look at Los Angeles. Atlanta, Washington. People leaving New York. I'm not sure where they're going to go because we are the safest big city in America. We have reduced our shooting rate down 10% statewide 13% in the city, and it's only gone down 2% across the nation. But I only say those statistics in terms of context, that doesn't mean that I'm not laser focused on continuing to work in partnership with local law enforcement, not just in the city of New York, but also in Syracuse. And in Rochester and Albany, where I've convened people to talk about how the state can number one fund law enforcement more aggressively, make sure they have all the resources they need. Fund other programs make changes to the laws we talked about. Make sure that we look at issues like Kendra's law and others where people may be falling through the cracks. We have a responsibility to protect our citizens between getting crime under control, working with the local law enforcement and then building the affordable housing. There will be no stopping the explosive potential for the state of New York in this post potential. This post pandemic era. Thanks to New York governor Kathy hochul. I also spoke with micron CEO Sanjay to tell us why he chose to build the company's manufacturing facility in New York. And we chose New York because of several reasons. First of all, people in terms of diverse population that's available here to grow the talent base

"That it's going? It feels like whenever beheim does retire if that's next season or in 17 years it will be a situation similar to duke where someone on staff will wind up taking that job. So keep that in mind as I kind of post the question. But are you ready to move on from this? Or would you still prefer even for a little while longer or another couple of seasons? No, let's keep him on the sideline. I'm just curious. I don't necessarily have the answer, but it flickered in my mind when that game was ending, and I wanted to bring up on the podcast. If you've got thoughts, by the way, you can always leave them in an Apple review. But I don't know. I don't know what the right answer for that is, but to your point, they've had success here and there in the USA tournament, but they have not been a top shelf team in the ACC and there's no indication that that that's going to return anytime soon. No, I mean, 7 straight seasons of finishing 6 to worse in the ACC, like 7 years, that's a long, that's an entire coaching career for some people. That's a long time to not be competing at the top of your league. You know, I mentioned earlier for doing one, at least a share of 5 of the past 8 ACC titles. And Syracuse has finished 6th or worse in the same league in 7 straight seasons. And now they're currently projected to Kim kom to go 17 and 14 overall, 11 and 9 in the ACC. And I think what does complicate it is like they're not good with Jim's kids taking all the shots. You know, it's not great. Isn't that great? It's not a great situation. But he wasn't good last night. Jimmy, actually, but Jimmy was actually better. Jimmy had 21 buddy was at 6 points on three of 18 shooting. Can't have that. But yeah, I know. That's also another element to everything that's going on there. One more interesting result from the past couple of nights. Texas southern, 69, Florida, 54. So the SEC had more teams ranked in the AP poll on Monday afternoon than any other conference. The league was celebrating. You get two teams in the college football playoff. Now you got more men's basketball teams ranked than anybody else. And I got a text from somebody on Monday night 'cause I had like real trouble issues. I was late leaving Memphis, flight delay. I got stuck in Atlanta Monday night. I had to spend the night in Atlanta at the airport. I didn't stay in the airport. I left the airport. Got a nice hotel room. But still, you don't want to get stuck somewhere. I was stuck. So anything that was happening was off my radar. But I didn't think there was anything that needed to be on my radar. There were no good games Monday night or no relevant. No games that were that I believed would impact the top 25 and one. And then I get a text from somebody and they're like, have you seen this Texas southern thing? And I'm like, yeah, I don't even know what they're talking about. I didn't even know Texas southern is not something I keep close tabs on. My apologies to Johnny Jones. And not only did they beat Florida in the O dome, but they blew them out. Texas said that was Owen 7 and ranked 224th at kin palm before the game. They were 23 and a half point under dogs. They go to the odon when the game by 15. What? Two things. I mean, you're going to Michigan walked into Pinnacle on Tuesday. You missed that, by the way. I saw something. I walked in. Michigan walked in to Pinnacle bank. Maybe I walk in. I used to be tough. It used to be tough. Maybe the Atlantic bank union center is the new Pinnacle. You know? And well, let's live in the present. And then it's quite a mouthful of an arena named by the way. I can't tell you how many times I had to look up. I can't tell you how many times you should have called it the big bank. We both know this. You should just shoot all the big bank. I can't tell you how many times I had to Google James Madison basketball arena over the past two days. It's the Atlantic union bank center, otherwise known as the big bank. As the big bank challenge. There we go. Maybe it's the new Pinnacle. It might be. So Michigan walked into Pinnacle and used to not be able to just walk into the Odom. Couldn't do it. Not when I was not when I was young, you couldn't do it. And now Texas southern when 63 to 45, the extremely rare. Double seed line swing. Oh no. I think this is so significant. That Texas southern, you'll often see at least one of the HBCUs that get into the NCAA tournament, get into the first four. And they make a point not to put both in. This one will be so good that if Texas southern can win the swag, it's not going to Dayton. If it can get into the tournament with an auto bed, it's not going to date. It's getting that it's getting that bump. And a Florida can make the NCAA tournament..

"I had somebody 'cause I tweeted the court storming video and somebody was like, oh, storm in the court against a 6 and 14. I was like, are you framing it like that? You just don't get it. And that's not a 6 and 14. That's Virginia. That's Tony Bennett. That's the 2019 national champions. That's an ACC opponent. You literally never beaten. They were nice enough to come to your arena, something they don't have to do. And then you upset them. That's something that'll be in the James Madison media guide forever. If they still do media guys, that is something that the people in that building and the players and that coaching staff. It's something they'll remember forever. It was a cool scene. This game was originally scheduled for a season ago and there are no shortages of instances and men's college basketball where games that were scheduled in the non conference for last season wind up just getting canceled altogether because of COVID logistics and going forward. Virginia could have done that. Tony Ben insisted on not doing that, he wanted to help JMU open up the building, although this is not the first game in there. But with a big time opponent in state opponent, here is what Bennett said, it's about 46 seconds long. Here's what he said afterward after the loss to the media assembled in the press room. The fans were great. Minus a few of them, some of the things I heard, but that's all part of it. And mark's done a really good job. This is a good team. He's built it. And I want to compliment this. I came from Green Bay, a mid major, whatever say, and there's so much parody. And I always hope that we get to play some of the power 5s, and that's irrelevant. And I never got to. And I learned from my father when he took the Wisconsin job. He'd go play they play Green Bay, Milwaukee, those schools. Well, I think that's important. A lot of teams won't come in here and play it. That's their philosophy. This is a good team. This is a good college basketball for beautiful building in a tough environment, but good for our guys. So it's things to lose. But our guy's battle in the second half. So a good point from Tony there to be fair, it's not like Virginia plays on the road in state every single season. He's done it a handful of times, but you know, you heard Kevin Willard say this earlier this season, we've talked about it a couple of times on the podcast. And I do think because of increased discussion on podcasts like this, coverage across the sport. Coaches are now more aware of this. They're talking about it more. I don't know if we'll look up in three years and it will be different. But I do know that at least among coaches that have job security, they are more willing to do this. I think Virginia's played a couple of times at VCU over the years under Tony. And he hasn't done it every single season. I don't know if he will do it every single season, but he did it here. He understood how important it was for James Madison and, you know, yeah, Virginia fans this morning, they're pissed because they got a team that might not make they've got a program that might miss the NCA tournament for the first time since I got into my notes here. 2012, 13, there were 21 and 11 that season. They went ten and three in the non league, Virginia is almost certainly going to win its final non conference game. To get to 7 and four against fairly Dickinson. But so if you're a Virginia fan right now and here now, I understand why you're frustrated, but I did like hearing that from Bennett and I would hope that he would kind of back up that spirit going forward next season the season after JMU or any other maybe school in the Commonwealth, if you will, being willing to go and play them, because yes, it did create an amazing scene. Yes, it's a tough spot to win at. But Jamie is also a legitimate opponent and it wasn't a stunner that JMU won this game to me. We talked about it. I think I joked with you on the Sunday Night podcast, but it was a quality win. Real quick, JMU, held Virginia to 14 first half points. This was set on the broadcast. It was the lowest points and a half ever first or second half under Tony Bennett period. It was just it was problematic. And Jaime, by the way, won this game. 50 to 49, they didn't have a single player hit double digits. It's the first time that Jamie was played a game and not had a player score at least one, at least ten points since a loss to Ohio State in 2009. So credit to Jamie for the win. It is troubling for Virginia. I think we can really start to ask is this team going to make the NCAA tournament? That's now on the table there because of the issues with the ACC. I mean, that conference has non league losses to pitch bad. Louisville lost a firman, Virginia also has a loss to navy on its honest docket there. Syracuse, which laws will get them a second. It's lost to Colgate, Virginia tech didn't beat Memphis. Like they lost big opportunities there. There's another one that's bad. I can't remember..

"Are now one and 11 all time against Virginia, one in 19 since 1980 against ACC opponents. That leg, what'd you make of the scene and the development inside the Atlantic union bank center where a record setting sold out crowd witness history it was history first went for the program ever over Virginia? It's actually James Madison's only win over a sitting current ACC member as well. Big time win for the dukes, who might well be the CAA's best team this seasonal circle back to that in just a little bit here. I did watch the entire game was a little concerned for your well-being. In fact, I believe nada has logged in a poll if you're watching on YouTube and hello to everyone who's in here early. Yes, are you watching live? We went 30 minutes earlier than we told you. We put on the Sunday edition. I underestimated how far Harrisonburg is from the Charlottesville airport. Turns out it's like an hour. I've got about an hour Uber ahead of me. Soon as we're done here, I'll be in an Uber for an hour if you need me. Yeah, he Paris had not on eye up and said, listen, we got to start this thing at 9 30. I'm an hour from the airport. I didn't ask questions. I was just like, all right, whatever. We're good to go. So anyone that was on their game had the alerts set up and is subscribed in the YouTube channel. We appreciate you. If you're listening traditionally on podcasts, we of course love you quite much and you're just getting this as you normally would and listening at some point on Wednesday Thursday or perhaps starting on Friday, hello hello. So big time win for the program there for Virginia. It's now it's now a 6 and 14, but I was concerned. I was concerned for your well-being because they get the huge win, I'll play some sound from Tony Ben in a minute here. But I know how these things go. You know, you're working sideline. You get a big upset like this. It's good television. You want to get an interview after the game, usually with the head coach. They flooded the floor with a purpose in an intensity and great on the jam you student body. But did you get caught up in that? Like give us a little bit of the blow by blow there because I want to say it took 7 minutes to get to you to throw it to you to do the interview after the game, which is understandable because it was a massive humanity down there. It was a mess. So I was down, they have students sections on both ends of the court. Both baseline says one student section on one side one end one on the other. And it was very clear they were about to storm the court if they won. The game was still undecided in the final minute. But then it became a three point game with James Madison shooting free throws. And it was pretty clear they're going to win the game. Although Virginia did have a shot at the buzzer to send it to overtime. So it's obvious the students are going to storm from both ends. And so I'm, you know, I'm under orders from our producer. Hey, listen. We're going to enjoy the scene. We're going to let it let it play out. And then let them celebrate and then you're going to grab a coach coach Mark biotin or a player. Got it, no problem. So I sort of sit back while the students storm. I'm like, okay, I'll stand over here and let them all flood it. I'll let everybody celebrate. And then I'll grab somebody and it'll be good to go. And you have to understand because of COVID protocols. This isn't as simple as, hey, you've got a camera following you and you just grab somebody and then interview them. I have to grab somebody and then take them to a camera where a headset is waiting for them so they can put on a headset and I can have my ears in and will be socially distanced while doing this postgame interview. So it's complicated to begin with. Much more complicated when the court is stormed. Here's the thing that I didn't properly anticipate. Once I was quote letting them celebrate, the entire court is filled with people. I have no idea where Mark Biden is where any player is. I can't see. I don't know if you know this, I'm short. So I can't see anybody. And so it's a real problem. And so we're letting the scene play out. It's fine, but it becomes a time where, all right, it's time to do the postgame interview. And I'm like, literally, you know, on in communication with our producer, and I'm like, I can't not only do I not have Mark biring. I can't see him. I don't know where he's at. I can't see anybody. And so I am really scrambling through the crowd. And then, of course, you have to understand. It's a bunch of students. Seeing the guy carrying around the CBS, Mike. So it's like, you want to interview me? You want to interview me? You know, and it's like, you're respectfully turning down interviews while you're looking for anybody to actually interview the whole thing. You're looking in your short, everyone's wearing the same colors. It doesn't make it that much easier. You just give me someone in the uniform, please, someone that logs significant minutes. Oh, okay. So I'm not exaggerating for multiple minutes. Not only did I not see markington. I couldn't see anybody. I never saw a player. I never saw nobody. I couldn't see anybody. And I couldn't get to it. I didn't even know it wasn't like, can I get to them? It was like, I don't even know where to go to get to them. I don't know where they are anymore. The whole court storm. So then thank God I see Vadim Morris, who was a significant player in the game. I just happened to bump into him. And I'm like, it's like finding a lottery ticket. I was like, please come with me. 'cause now, it's not like I got a camera follow me. I got to now escort him to my camera, which I know is on one end of the court, but we have to get through a million people. So good luck with that. Then we get to the end of the court, now guess what I can't see. My cameraman have no idea where he is. They say he's on the baseline where you did your opening shot. I'm on the baseline where I did the opening job. He's sure he's short guy too. I can't see him. So we finally, we finally got it done, but it was a mess. A good kind of mess because that was an awesome awesome scene. Couldn't be happier for Mark. Couldn't be happier for those players. Those students, the faculty, everybody who was there. It was a sold out record setting crowd. I mean, the environment was awesome. I'm not sitting here trying to tell you that the Atlantic union bank center is Cameron indoor or Allen fieldhouse. But it was as loud as you could get in a basketball arena last night. And it made for just an incredible scene in a memory. You know, the people in there last night will remember that forever. Like I had somebody 'cause I tweeted the court storming video and somebody was like, oh, storm in the court against a 6 and 14. I was like, are you framing it like that? You just don't get it. And that's not a 6 and 14. That's Virginia. That's Tony Bennett. That's the 2019 national champions. That's an ACC.

College Football Bets: Week 1

"On. Espn dot com chuck section. I've given them out daily wager. But you know we'll rip through a few here i want to start with. Ecu this numbers come down a little bit. They play thursday night against appalachian state and look. I think he's us live dog. Jay vermont talked about it as well. They have a bunch of veterans including senior quarterback and app. State's been a little shaky as well. And they have a new quarterback and chase. Bryce you might remember him. He played a key. Clemson then transferred to duke ten and a half a lot of points for team that always seems to pull games out of the hat and have crazy place at the end. I like myself getting double digits plus ten right now but still i would out jumping on on ec as long as you get double digits and maybe a little sprinkle on the money line. That could be some fun The came by actually liked the most Kinda scared about it and it's umass and everybody who listen to pod on a somewhat regular basis knows. I'm kind of the betting bully as humans. A frequent guest. Your calls me. I like to bet on bet against bad teams. Just just do it right. Like orioles season win total under. I've certainly bet against umass in the past but thirty eight is just way too many points. And i'll tell you why won't bell and umass went out and got a bunch of transfers. Their quarterback is a six foot five inch from from colorado like the university of and or colorado university of boulder. And they have two running backs that transferred in one from rutgers. So a team that was like. Fcs not too long ago or fcs quality has some real players and you only have to get thirty eight now pits good. But they're at tennessee. The following week nerd uzis not a guy who's going to run up the score. He's old school. Fourth quarter they'll bring in the is a little bit and on top of that. Probably the best handy angle. I have is the offense coordinator for pit is a guy named mark whipple. He's coached umass twice head coach. Also the most recent time was just a few years ago. This is not situation where he wants to embarrass his former program. Umass is a special place in his heart. Whipple's going to call off the dogs as well. So i just think if you can get about two touchdowns even if it's garbage time i think plus thirty eight is the play in. That game is crazy. As it sounds another game. I like is essentially a coin. Flip game and it syracuse minus one. And a half. you might remember. I've talked about it with jay motto. The over three in the win total. They're going to split time at quarterback. Babies made that announcement. I don't love it. I would prefer. Tommy devito to be the entire time but dual threat with michigan state. Sorry mississippi state transfer garrett schrader. They're just better at a lot of positions that ohio but most importantly syracuse addressed. Their offense align issues. There was a pathetic. Offense couldn't even average average about two hundred fifty yards per game. Not passing just total yards per game. The veto would be injured. A lot spent a lot of time on his back. If they're okay on the offensive line this is just a syracuse team. That's just better. No more frank. Solich at ohio. Bob cats will rotate. Quarterbacks curtis rourke. Who's obviously the brother of nathan rourke the former stud bob cats quarterback and then armani rogers transfer from unlv. Ohio's very good. They looked good last year against the too bad teams really bad teams in the mac akron bowling green. But i think use gets there which is better talent especially with vito healthy and maybe we hope and improved offensive line. Fourth play i want to talk about

"Phone line. We welcome our good friend, Dr. Bob Thompson, professor of pop culture at Syracuse University. A Bob Good Morning. Good morning to you. So let's start an excuse me. I almost started coughing here, so I have not seen this yet. But I must say By this new documentary with Bob Ross, because I feel like this is going to really complicate the legacy of the artists that we all know, painted happy little trees pretty well. It doesn't so much complicate his personal legacy comes off pretty much as the usual Bob Ross with a couple of little revelations, an affair and a number of other things, but it certainly complicates the Legacy of who controls Bob Ross. His name and all the rest of it. I will think twice before ordering a Bob Ross mug after I see this stuff after I saw the documentary So the the back story behind this is you have the and I hope I get this right. The his family, the Kagalovsky family. Is that close to how to pronounce it. Okay. So you've got you've got Bob Ross, Uh and Annette and Walter Kowalski. Who were the ones? Of course. Who, uh, kind of helped him too. Become more popular with the T V show, which, of course, would then lead to the sales of his stuff in his seminars, his painting lessons and all of the rest of it, But then Bob Ross also has a son. So Bob Ross dies. This Bob Ross Inc kind of takes things over Bob Ross, his son loses control of, you know the name Bob Ross and all the rest of it, And mostly this documentary is the revelations of Ross, his son of things that happened after he died. But in the course of all that, there are also a lot of great clips of our Bob Ross's TV show and all the rest of it. And if you have not yet discovered, and there was kind of a renaissance of this show after he died, If you've not yet discovered it, it might make you go and take a look. He made television like

Dana Spiotta Talks About Wayward

"Deana spilled a joins us now. From the catskills. She is the author of many novels including innocence and others lightning field and stone arabia and her latest book is called wayward dana. Thanks for being here. Thanks so much for having me pamela. So this book begins with a house. Why what is this house. And what role does it play in the novel. Well it's a falling down arts and crafts house. That's in the city of syracuse. The main character. Sam has a habit of going to these kind of open houses. With no intention to buy and she finds us wreck of a house and syracuse you can actually buy houses for forty thousand dollars thirty thousand dollars that are completely falling apart and she just impulsively signs a contract for this house senate. Only when she's driving home that she realizes she's going to leave her husband and her entire life. And i think one of the questions that drives the novel in the beginning is why does she do this really reckless thing with her life and and i think she falls in love with the and i am part of me was thinking of writing a midlife person blowing up their life but i didn't want it to be because they fell in love with a younger lover which seems kind of cliche. I thought we're done with that. We're dealing with no this house. And i think the question is what is the house speak to her and i guess it wasn't what i was writing it. I didn't think about it as much. But after i thought okay. The house is hiding in plain sight at you could ignore it or you can look closely and see the beauty there and i think she's she thinks it speaks to her and she's the only one that can still see that it's beautiful and so maybe that has something to do about the state. The cheese in or that. Her life is in to that. She needs to kind of look at her life in a different way so she can see what's still beautiful and what still needs work. Maybe

"So dana chantal as you mentioned. The story came onto your radar back. In late april when eleven players had transferred out of the syracuse program. The numbers now actually up to twelve. What's the state of the syracuse program. After that mass exodus. And we're have most of those players who transferred out now landed everywhere. Several within the acc who tries think men painted as a complement their own program as a as a compliment. We have your players during the beasts. Schools are going to squeeze conference that means that there was something that really wanted. But like we've said over and over again. He's an excellent recruiter and as these players left he in a very active transfer portal was able to restock has stor with talented players from all over the country. And i think a lot of the reason it's happening here is because you know people's players transferring the explainations given and they assume that that's the truth and they don't really know what it's like on the inside of the program and so are on the inside of the program and i think that's sort of what we're trying to shed light on of what the culture of this program is so that people who choose to go there and they can't certainly can at least go with their eyes wide open and leslie. I guess i'm just wondering what lessons if any the two of you have taken away from this whole situation or maybe what lessons were conclusions. Other schools. other college basketball programs might draw. I mean from the very broad perspective. Look coaches players. Coaches intel. Said push players. We're not saying that you shouldn't be that way. We're not saying that that's unacceptable. Were saying that coaches who do that. Do that number one knowing the line to where to stop and do that understanding the relationship. They have with their players. And look. we're in a new world and what you know. I go to the men's game but whatever body on away with or whomever you want reference. It's not okay. It wasn't okay then but we accepted it. Our athletes are now telling us that is not only not okay. We're not accepting it anymore. And if you don't listen to that message you're not going to be in this business very long because players understand not only the power that they have what they deserve they just. They understand how they deserve to be treated. What stuck with me. The most is that we are in an age right now where it's not a faux pas to talk about mental health. Everyone is talking about it. Athletic departments need to provide resources for their student athletes in syracuse did have therapists for their athletes. However denies spent two months on the story and we spoke with three women who had suicidal thoughts while they were inside the syracuse women's basketball program. If you don't think that is a problem and if you don't think it could have been much worse. You're lying to yourself and i think if you're an athletic department and you're not asking those same questions. Something's wrong santo dana thanks to both the in response to the athletics requests for comment syracuse director of athletics. John wild hack sent the following statement like so many athletic programs across the country. Syracuse women's basketball saw a number of student athletes transferred to other programs following the twenty twenty one season while we experienced departures every year. The effects of covid nineteen were significant. We're also cognizant that every student athlete wants his much playing time as possible. It is the coaching staff responsibility to put the best players on the court at the right time to advance the program learning after the fact through the media that student athlete has had a concerning experience limits our ability to investigate an issue in real time. We urge any student athlete from across all sports past and present to bring to our attention. Any incidences of inappropriate behavior so we may initiate an investigation. We also employ student athletes to be candid in their exit interviews. The only way our leadership can address issues if we know about them syracuse. Athletics remains committed to providing a healthy academically rigorous competitive and rewarding environment to all student athletes. And he behavior from our student athletes coaches and staff that contradicts our commitment to these ideals is investigated thoroughly and if necessary appropriate action is taken to learn more about the mass exodus from the syracuse women's basketball program.

Why Are Vow Renewals So Meaningful?

"Vows by definition are very aspirational when a young couple vows to have and to hold whether rich or poor in sickness or in health you know hook goes to. They really know what they're in for. Of course they don't how could they often. They haven't seen enough of life yet of our renewal though is something else entirely. It's more than just a restatement of those original promises. It saying that after all these years of lived experience. I still love you. I'm still in this with you. And i stand here today. Ready to commit to all that. I love you. In spite of your beauty's in spite of your broken nece. I love you still. And i'm celebrating the fact that you love me still even though you know more about me than you did on our wedding day. That's reverend brian. Cockle he's dean of hendricks chapel at syracuse university. Which proud to say is my alma mater. Hendricks chapel is this sacred interface based on campus. The dates back to nineteen thirty on valentine's day. Brian was in the chapel presiding over a very unique very twenty twenty one kind of ceremony. It was a virtual group vow renewal for one hundred and fifty people at this time. I invite all of our participants to make. Sure your cameras are your microphones. And of course. Jimmy Boeheim Transferring to Join Dad, Brother at Syracuse for Final Season

"Jimmy, behind son of Jim Boeheim and brother of Buddy Boeheim will be joining his dad and brother and Syracuse Orange next season. After not playing this past season at Cornell, due to the Ivy League, not having a season, he thought it was time to return to what he called home. Here is his brother on how it came about. Once you started, the season came and their season was canceled and just based off this season and performance he had last year averaging close to 17 a game. 67 rebounds really improved and This summer. I just realized that you got a lot better and he could. He could help us. I thought even this year, but he was ready to the point of this level. And me and my dad kind of talked about here and they're just saying what he could do for us, and I think middle of this year he kind of had his mind up that he was going to come here and it was just Excitement, and I think he just can't wait to get here and get playing. But when people talked, you know about you around your dad's program. No one said like he was the coach's kid. Everyone said you were just another guy and that you're coaching your dad made you work like everyone else. How do you think that helped you develop under him? And how do you think that's gonna help your brother? I think it helped a lot right from the start. I told him this streaming like everyone else. I'd yell at me when I make a mistake, And obviously he's often coach so I know he's going to do just that. I don't have to tell him anything, and he knows what more Evades me how to motivate me, and he knows I'm gonna work as hard as I can. No matter what. So Jimmy's the same way he works just as hard. He's got that great mindset. He's tough, and he's gonna be ready to work from

This is the result of of this year. We're going to be doing this again next year. We're going to be able to compare from year one to year two And we're really going to be talking about it in a way. That new else has talked about it. In a consistent manner as well it's gonna make his database publicly available so practitioners. Researchers policymakers have access. Little let's say the sba in texas is trying to improve the services in exodus that can tap into this database in seriously. What are the specific challenges for texas based veterans immerse. Also what i love about as cadaveric researchers that as as more and more than likely search issues in published formation abedin spinner ship is going to become a tink into into school management. And now you're gonna have professors teaching students about veterans inertia so hopefully five ten years from now. You're gonna have bankers you're going to have people provide technical systems. The serb veterans understand it challenges in various in the standard really veterans enterpreneurship. Make sense veterans and understand like there are these resources sooner better yes so so I want to hear what both of you have to say this. If you're talking to somebody who's still in the military getting out soon or recent veteran with everything you know from a research perspective in some of the programs you guys. You're putting on their somebody or or a military spouse. Somebody that's from. The military commission was looking to get started and entrepreneurship. What are some of the big immediate things that come to mind in terms of advice so i have to be look into the ivy math programs that he have few and service or they look at the boost. The business definitely cake is free to. It's a great source enterpreneurship Also don't chase the money. Obesity entrepreneurship usually the ones that successful are the ones all the ashes so would have passion. You have focused on the passion and create value death so deftly lookout Of israel says there's also via Resources such a small business development center of the be box veteran business altri centers. I know you mentioned free. But i want to emphasize that. They're all free like free. Trample room and board on the on the in person. Staff and many of them Military spouses are eligible. And the view is is is for women owning so You have to take advantage and oftentimes yet for somebody that's still in. You can take leave. Or they will grant t pab tampa stipe transition. Leave to go to some of these programs. Right if you're thinking way ahead and you're still in you can be transition program so rosy what about you mentioned i guess the best advice that i have is start. Arming yourself with information. Knowledge is power. And i think it's through the connection and through going through our website and connecting with resources and networking and talking. You're going to start getting that information. It's better to collect the information first so that you know what steps need to come knocks the last thing you wanna do is like just start in something you have. "Veto on the line from Syracuse, New York Hello, Vito. How you doing, guys? I'm great. How are you? Yeah, I'm doing fine and watching the game and like 22 degrees out here is pretty cold. Oh, man. It's almost is cold on Lambeau Field so you can feel right at home. Don't know no spoilers. Okay, because You know, there's people listening. You're saying I want a TV? What? I'm gonna watch it when I when I get home or whatever. Yeah. Good game so far. It is watching it. Yeah, I got out of the screen here. What can I do for you? Yeah, I got a crazy question. But I got an old razor phone. Yeah. If it doesn't power up anymore, I don't know. And I was wondering, I got another razor for any way they could take the memory out of that quote and put it the other one. Yes. If you go into and, you know sometimes if you go to the company stores, you know the Verizon store the 18 T story, they they'll scratch their head, but what you want Is and there's all they're all over the place. I'm sure they're all over. Syracuse is the guy who sells all of it. You know, it zah cell phone store, but they sell them all. And the reason is those guys almost always have a little machine that they can plug your phone into copy stuff off of it and put it into the new razor. You should look, though. You might on Lee need to fix the battery. Okay? Yeah, I'm gonna check that first. If you go toe I fix it dot com Love these guys. They want to be the repair manual for the Internet. They actually have a guide an article on replacing the battery. They'll sell the tools and a new battery. If you need it, Look at the video. Look how hard it is. It doesn't look too hard. Looks like it's something pretty doable. You do have toe, you know, use a sponger to pry it open and things like that. But if you still if you think the phone's still good, usually on these phones the batteries only last a few years. Yeah, so it might just be replaced, the better. But yeah, If you want to copy the data off of it, they could do that they can without, even without a powering up. Well, it depends why it's not powering up if it's not pairing up because the battery's dead yes. If it's not pairing up because of you know, it fell in the toilet, You know, in my drawer, Yeah, it's probably just the battery. It's just not taking a charge. But it was. So it depends why it's not booting up. But if it's if it's if all the Elektronik sor intact and it's just it's not getting power. Yeah, they can power it. And copied over. It's certainly worth a call to your local, you know, independent cell phone store. I think they still exist. They're still around the big company stores. They, you know, It's not the probably There's a guy there who knows how to do it. It's just that you know, Verizon doesn't want to be doing that. But these third party guys, they want your business and they spend my experience anyway. That they often have a machine. Leo Laporte taken Feel like you live a lot of your life online. On average..

"There's so many different things. A customized retirement plan will do, But you'll never know about it. And unless you take that first step And we would love to hear you Take that first step and that's you contacting us. Call the Holland Group for your consultation. Absolutely. No charge. No obligation. 727228 64 49. That number again. 7272286449. Okay. It was Beth this next one. Is, um this is pretty crazy. Because When my mom sold the house in Syracuse. Now the house that we lived in in Syracuse. The Holland family had that in their name for just At or just over 50 years. And, um, when my mom moved, she said to us kids. I can't take everything with me. What do you guys want? And you know my sisters. My brother. Will I want this. I want that. I said Mom, There's only one thing I want from the house on Lee one thing and it's very, very simple. You don't even have to prepare all take care of all the details, but it's real simple. And I asked her to guess she couldn't guess nobody could guess And I said the phone number It's the first phone number I've ever memorized. It's been in the in the Holland family for all these years, you know, since the since the late sixties, so that would be the Ma Bells a stage? That's right. So what was crazy is we We contacted Time Warner and Syracuse and they were like, Oh, I'm sorry. You don't own that number we do. And I said, Oh, really? You weren't even around back in the sixties. I demand that I get that phone number and eventually, after speaking to a supervisor, I got the phone number. It's now as you know, in my cell phone. But I remember my mom saying to me, Stevie, you know, out of all the kids, you're the only one who really liked this Victrola. And I'm thinking, Yeah, that'd be kind of cool. But what am I going to do with this? £400? Victrola? Definitely not put us in our house. This'll record player that I have to, um, find have the records to play it. Yeah. You gotta have the records each record ways like £5 and those of the LP. The longer versus those of the big LPs and the needle look like a needle that you you put through looks like a roofing needle or a roof. Um, now if you will, but anyhow, so many things that the next generation are not going to want, But you know, it's one of the best things you can do for the next generation. Is I'll tell you 30, plus years in the retirement planning business, me and you, obviously we've never had one client say to us. I am going to time my death. I am going to spend the last dollar the day before I died. Yeah, sounds sounds like a great plan. It never ever happens at this. It's requested it is requested. But it never ever happens. You know, the fact of the matter is very simple. We're all going to pass on some day and we're gonna leave stuff behind. This stuff has value. Some of it has a lot of value. Some of you will leave behind a million dollars or more to your kids. Some of you will leave. Maybe a couple $100,000 to your kids. Some of you will leave just your house to your kids. But the fact of the matter is very simple. You will be leaving behind some very valuable assets. And if you don't have a plan, there's going to be a problem. So that Olson, you can't take it with you. Yeah happens to be very, very true. You can't where you're going. You can't use it anyhow. Um there's no value for it. The point I want to get to is this Most people who come here. They never have a legacy strategy. And they don't understand one thing that if they have two kids, we look at it and say No, you have three. If they have three kids, we say no. You have four. If they have one child, we say no, you have to beneficiaries. Why do I keep adding on one? It's called the I R. S and you'd be amazed how much money will be lost when the next generation takes over your stuff. We can identify that and we can show you how you can stop it. And for some of you save hundreds of thousands of dollars. 7 to 7228 64 49 that number again. 7272286449 call us 727228 64 49 727228 64 49. This has been a fun conversation. Right? Eliza Bill?
