I find it amazing that in this day and age that someone else to write this to remind christians among the greatest truths that we seem to stop preaching. I don't know what it is but she needs to remind us that god is against evil and suffering in a world. He's not the origin of evil evil. As a means to justify some cosmic ends rav. God fights evil and god's sovereignty sovereignty. It's not the cost of everything it's about redemption of think. Can we understand the cause of the pain and the problems and the difficult and in his sovereign power he will redeem it all. That's our hope. Paul and i remember that. This is not god swill. The god is fighting evil. God came in the flesh. Jesus didn't announced everything already. Manifested god's will jesus sets out to establish god's will and jesus taught us. The vote is the cause of all evil. If that's what we believe that's our hope we know. This is not that we know that one day we will be comforted. That's the promised. The all things will be healed that at some point in the future the final word will be spoken. God is goes intervene. God will judge. God will put things right and lament is one of the ways. Yeah they're full of blood and needles in worms. Sounds like the san francisco sidewalk anyway. He then say that the only solution was to give her is much cash money as possible so she could take the cash to a temple and blessed but but no worries because of course she returned and she double the money so far. This makes a lot of sense right. So you're telling people actually did. This gave her all the money they had. Somebody gave her twenty nine thousand dollars. People this stupid getting this much money. Have you heard of this guy named joe biden. I mean that's probably where they're getting some of it. I mean he's giving it away like candy. Wait so this isn't the only gypsy that can magically double your money and cheer the bloody needle eggs now. You know what no. She's not the only gypsy that's pulled off the all. Your money is curse. Give it to me. I'll remove the curse trick. I just don't of course he'd like. It's a new twist though i'll give her that. That doesn't even make any goddamn fucking marks. You know to be fixing their relationship issues. That's what i want to know. I mean talk about going a little off court dollar one now. They say the number one cause of relationship problems is money issues. Well she fix those all right now. You have no money issues because you have no. There's the monkey for ya. Yeah i mean. She went to the temple. He was going to double it then. She realized no no. No no no no. I'm just gonna go to the fucking hardrock imaginer the four. Don't care if it's on mar-a-lago itself. No i mean it's it's it is always the end you were telling this. They're bringing in world-famous crackhead trader warmonger and alleged pedophile. Hunter biden. okay you know. I thought that the podcasting was funny but actually plausible. This is outrageous. Can you imagine this motherfucker being like your professor. Being expected to these people pay for a semester. Tulane university do much obviously expected to take notes on h- ramblings of crackhead hunter biden. I mean if anybody knows about this guy. Their crime is uncountable indiscretions in crimes. They weren't even allowed to be printed without your newspaper. Getting the platform he a whole arise and i mean to be fair. He did write a fake memoir. That nobody read does that. I mean i'm sure there's a lot of fake shit in there you know. He just wants to go down to new orleans. We can get wasted on hurricanes cheap blow and banco as honestly that might be if anybody out there is listening in you happen to attend tulane. You might wanna sign up for this class. No no they're they're left wing or god they could be. They could show there with a nuclear warhead and they'd be like a peaceful. That's so nice i mean. Apparently they just don't think biden's been doing quite enough environment now. He hasn't been doing now. Let's see the first thing he did as has president. Was he shut down the oil pipelines in killed one hundred thousand jobs He he raised the cost of gas by at like a dollar a gallon. He put us back in. The paris accord shakedown I mean he. He helps tank our economy for these nut jobs. I mean last week he said he was gonna limited us like two ounces of beef a month. I mean what do they wanna do. Is he got a ban electricity. Does he have to outlaw. The automobile honestly. I know exactly what these people are craving you move the white the planet off the face of the universe. Gino how jonestown happened the kool aid yet. So basically what. These people want is a cult and they don't have a cult leader. They were hoping that. Joe biden would become their cult. Leader can lead them all to Selfless suicide where we would give ourselves back to mother earth and the indigenous people what they want. I think i've finally figured it out. Somebody just needs to give them encouragement. They need to just do it on their own. You don't need a cult leader people you can do it. I know you're all on medication. Could back it isn't medication. Really environmentally friendly. That's all i'm saying. Are they environmentally friendly. They're humans their dirty human harvesting the raw materials. Medications right manufacturing plants in epa rated. Yeah maybe something to i mean. They never seem to get to the part where you know. We're in the matching tennis shoes and castrating themselves before they drink the cyanide. Anyway since we're talking about these delusional doomsday cultists Did you hear the latest from john. Kerry the climates. Are you know i didn't. I'm not the iranian foreign minister. So i have to get my john kerry new secondhand talking about that. that's a whole different ball of wax. I didn't even put that in the stack as it's like. Oh you saw on tape openly giving people military secrets to fucking iran. Nah we'll stick to the kind of funny stuff. So i'll as crazy as it would seem a member of the president's cabinet To do the thing with iran that actually makes sense in context of something. He said earlier this month at that virtual climate summit with the leaders in the heads of state from across the world. You don't want that biden. Was the only one that was wearing a mask. Yeah yeah so. So this stupid idiot said and i quote we need to remove co two from the atmosphere carbon dioxide. Yeah yeah we need to completely remove all co two from the atmosphere. Seems like that would maybe kill every living thing on the planet probably would. It is a natural product left his saw john kerry john kerry's the jim jones. God fucking help them. "Attacks of September 11 on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon Failed hijacking that resulted in the deadly crash in Pennsylvania. In a speech. George W. Bush stated. Islam is peace. That the millions of Muslims in the U. S are quote an incredible valuable contribution to our country and that Americans should treat each other with respect. In a time of crisis, George W. Bush gave the speech to comfort the wounded country and attempt to bring the people together and at least for the time. It worked. In fact, in light of the times we live in. Jenna Bush's daughter recently shared the text of the entire speech. Which you may want to check out in. Read that you're at your leisure. I will do my best. George W. Bush. I do not have a Texas drawl. But let me read you a few of the more Germaine And important paragraphs. The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war. When we think of Islam. We think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. Billions of people find comfort and solace and peace, and that's made brothers and sisters out of every race. America accounts. Millions of Muslims among our citizens and Muslims make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country. Muslims are doctors, lawyers, law professors, members of the military and entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, moms and dads, and they need to be treated with respect in our anger and emotion. Our fellow Americans must treat each other with respect. Then I'm reading from George W. Bush's speech just a few days after the September 11th terrorist attacks, Couple more paragraphs. Women who cover their heads in this country must feel comfortable going outside their homes. Moms who wear cover must not be intimidated in America. That's not the America I know That's not the America high value. I've been told that some fear to leave. Some don't want to go shopping for their families. Some don't want to go about their ordinary daily routines because by wearing cover, they're afraid they be intimidated. And that will not stand in America. Those who feel like they can intimidate our fellow citizens to take out their anger don't represent the best of America. They represent the worst of humankind, and they should be ashamed of that kind of behavior. That's an excerpt of George W. Bush's speech a few days after September 11th. Now George W. Bush do not have command of soaring rhetoric, but that maybe is most important speech of his Two term presidency just a few days after September 11, and that brings us finally to a man who did, in fact, have command of soaring rhetoric. President Barack Obama, who made history obviously is the first black president, the U. S. And his first inaugural address. January, 20th 2009 recognized the financial crisis the nation was facing and again he also talked about trying to unify. The country and I read a paragraph here and then we'll play a portion of a speech from 2000 and nine We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and non believers. We are shaped by every language and culture drawn from every end of this earth, And because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass. That the lines of tribes shall soon dissolve that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace. The speech lasted about 40 minutes and concluded with this this passage. This is Barack Obama from 2000 and nine a zoo. We consider the role that unfolds before us. Way..

"Instead of me saying that I don't wanna talk to you. They're about eight billion people that don't want to hear you. Now I'm not gonna mention you by name, but if you're on hold, it might be you. It's time to go into that dark room. It's time to look in the mirror and ask yourself she talking about me. Could he be talking about me? Probably it is a short segment. So I'm not really sure I should get into this one. This one ran that I want to talk about. Like I don't know what the more interesting angle is The fact that there are four million bobbleheads from 2020. They're sitting in storage boxes across Major league baseball stadiums, and a lot of them are for players that do not play with the team anymore. That's a fact. That's a thing. Or is it this Jerry Jones stopped to pose for a picture inside of a 7 11 while holding a bottle of $6 red wine. I think about that for a minute. Okay, I'm done thinking about it. That's all the information I needed. Jerry Jones at a 7 11 posing for a picture double fisting swill wine. All day. Every day is way more interesting. Yesterday, Jerry Jones was allegedly holding Dak Prescott out of the 2021 height videos. Today he's all over the Internet inside of a 7 11 posing with a Chiefs fan holding some bottom shelf gas station booze. And honestly, I think it's pretty awesome. First off nothing against 7 11. Never mind that I live in a town where I think there's one Normally there on every street corner. I live in a town where there is one. It's a really nice one. But there's one But I'm here for it like it's a really good convenience store. It has almost anything you need. If I need a pack of gum, I'll go there if I need a pact or a bottle of five hour energy I'll go there and the reason I'm not mentioned or trapper. I've already got so much old trapper always have it. I'm just saying, if I need something a little different If it's a late night and I need pop tarts. I could get him there. If I need detergent, I can get it there. I gave you all want there, but I've never bumped into a person worth 8.5 Bill. 7 11 7 11 is more synonymous as the store for people, you know the average person. Not eight to have Bill but 8.5 bucks. Right? Here's Jerry Jones owner. The Cowboys inside a 7 11 like the rest of us John Q. Public getting a bottle of $6 red And Prosper Texas, a town of about 22,000 people. The hell is Jeremiah doing in the sticks getting toilet wine? Some people are speculating that he may have been there to actually talk to Dak. Because, according to rampant Twitter comments, and I don't know if it's true or not. I'm always saying what I'm seeing on Twitter. Dak lives in the area. So maybe Jeremiah didn't want to ring the doorbell without having something in his hands. So he stopped off at 7 11 and he grab something on the same level as Carlo Rossi. Imagine Cheragh. Going out to Dax house, maybe to apologize about that whole height video thing and showing up with Josh wine. Because he was in a pinch and had to stop off at 7 11. That was the best he could do, or even worse, the best he wanted to do. What, man? You couldn't get it in a box. Hey, Doc. Carrie, What are you doing here? I brought you something. I brought you a box. Is your box of wine. Sorry about that height video thing. Actually kind of awesome If our dad could be like, Yo, JJ JJ, where's the greasy hot dog that's been spinning on that roller for three days. You show up with a box of wine and not one of them dogs. About the mountain of scratcher tickets. Yo, big Dawg. You got my Slurpee. About my packing heaters. And the Red box DVD. If you're gonna buy wine from a 7 11, you may as well go all in and grab everything else that people get when they're there in the photo. Hosted by the woman that he met. Jarrah is wearing a tucked in college shirt and slacks, which makes him the first person in the history of 7 11 to have either one of those things or any of those things. All three of those things but tucked in shirt. Ah, caller and slacks. I think that guy's stuck out very much nothing against the woman that he posed with, but prove my point. "Back into the night camp back to back authors here up next. Is Helen Andrews, the senior editor of the American conservative Talking about her new book, which, I guess is out today that it was January. 12th, I believe was the release date. It's called Boomer's The men and women who promised freedom and delivered disaster. Not quite the greatest generation a swill examine Helen. Good evening. How are you? I'm doing Great. Thanks for having me on. No thanks for thanks for allowing me to have you on In this this tome, you're exposing the promises of six prominent boomers. So you know, it's not a It's not a blanket condemnation of all of us. Baby boomers, is it That's right. I really didn't want to write a book about generalizations, and I think a lot of writing about generations and being really vague. Are living the right about individuals right about people start pick six people without their representatives as the baby boom generation people like Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs. Yeah. Nail. Probably that I'm shocked. It is in there. Jeffrey Sachs, the economist, But it's not a blanket condemnation of both folks either are doing the best to see their versions. As well as their vices. Well, Helen, I've got to tell you as a boomer. I've made the statement many times on the air that I thought. Overall, our generation really did a disservice to the The next generation by not continuing to teach civics and real American history and economics and free market capitalism to the generations that have followed the way that we were talked. I think that's how I approach it, too, because I'm a millennial. And the June of this book was my feeling that me and a lot of Mr my generation. So I guess inhibited that there were some things that were supposed Signet passed on to us. We just never received at a lot of those things in the material, you know, economically, we're doing very badly The economy is set up to for the boomers benefit in many ways. Also culturally there if one sitting institutions like the family were like turkey or cynics. Just art working the burgers inherited genes from their ancestors. And it is Bruce Lee didn't pass them on. And my generation are the ones that are paying the well and you see in your generation and people even younger than you this this yearning for two try socialism, for example, or even not even understanding the evils of Marxism right now. And it's because people like me, as you said, did not really pass the baton the way we should have. And you have Tonto sympathize a little bit with millennial socialists. I mean, they're wrong about everything but the economy from your perspective. Others look like the kind of economy the boom and then they were our age. You're not gonna get a stable middle class living on one income, You know most millennial couples. And both. Husband and wife out into the workforce because they think they just can't make ends meet without two earners. You know you also attracting the gig economy. They don't have symbols they can count on so I can understand why they're frustrated. I got to tell you as a baby boomer myself. I just turned 60. I had parents, and that's that's a key to is. I had parents. Who are still they just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary yesterday on bears still together, but they both worked in at a time when you're right. There were a lot of one income households in this country, but my mom was a registered nurse. My dad was a sales person, and we were kind of latch key kids growing up so We were a little bit different than some of those other kids boomers who were raised in in the sixties. But the important thing was staying together for 63 years. One incredible that's frightened that shouldn't I'm very lucky as a millennial all the intact. All told, my parents said, and I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I couldn't understand you. Your phone is kind of muffled. Oh, that's much better. Good. Well, I was just going to congratulate your parents are 63 years. That's great disappointment that the Buddha did not do that with their kids. They did not stay together. So two earner. That kind of makes a difference your family, But what thing That is most important. His parents staying together, Boy. Did the boomers saying to do that? Yeah. The divorce rate, you know, absolutely skyrocketed during. But there were other reasons. Besides, besides cultural breakdowns for that, I mean And especially, you look in certain communities. There were government social engineering things that went on in the sixties that affected family staying together. And I've heard a lot of boomers descend themselves by saying, Well, maybe we were a little excessive. It's like a swing of the pendulum. You know we were you depressed before. But maybe which people little too, from our in the liberation directions. You know we had to do that. And eventually we arrived at a happy medium. But from the perspective of the millennial way have now does not like a happy medium. Some people are very happy that the divorce rate has gone down. That's new comments for celebration because the only reason it is is that you were people are getting married in the first place. That's true. Never before in history for the majority of American adults over 16 been unmarried, and the reason is the millennials aren't getting it together. To get hit because I don't know. Maybe we just didn't have the bomb warning of successful couples from our parents, and that's why we can't do it. Maybe it's the economy. I don't know, but something not bulletin in the American family. But you focus on six prominent baby boomers, Steve Jobs. You mentioned the late Steve Jobs who Founded Apple The Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, right, I found that kind of an interesting choice. Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, who I think is nothing other than a welfare pimp and always has been or an extortionist screenwriter director Aaron Sorkin. And the Economist Jeffrey Sachs and Camille Paglia. You mentioned That's right. That's right..

Coronacast
Are we just going to have to get used to dealing with outbreaks?
"So one of the things that Australia has really relied on throughout the hall coronavirus pandemic sci-fi is lockdown as a way of getting a handle on what's happening and keeping cases to a minimum. We've seen that really happening in Victoria and a few days ago a special envoy from the World Health Organization was talking about how lockdowns shouldn't be the only sort of tool. That countries used to Cape a handle on the coronavirus and I think that some people in Victoria have sort of used those comments from the WHO as a reason to sort of say, we should be lifting Victoria's lockdown now but it's a bit more nuanced than that. Isn't it? This nuanced? We went into lockdown in March largely to stop the growing pandemic but also to allow the infrastructure for contracting testing to get into place, which is what the WHO, who say. There was an outbreak in Victoria now that I break in Victoria would have killed many many more people had they not to lockdown but in part the outbreak was due to a failure in contracting and testing at that time. So in many ways, they fulfilled whol criteria for lockdown, which is time to get your contact tracing and testing into shape, and in fact, through the second wave in. Victoria that's indeed what they've done some situation where Victoria New South. Wales are pretty XY Pixie in terms of unknown cases number of cases a day. Sorry Pixie. What the hell does that mean some kind of Scottish thing I grew up with meeting. You know roughly equal fair fair enough trying to get a new phrase into the Australian dictionary from Scotland. Anyway. Back to the point the point being. That, you said whereas in Victoria roughly equal and the argument is probably quite well made that there's not a lot of reason why you shouldn't have the restrictions roughly the same in both states the problem of Victoria is you don't WanNa let the break off suddenly because people will just start turning up on masters include a beach which means crowding into trams, etc, etc. so you've got up. Do fairly slowly and carefully, but the endpoint quite soon could be a similar situation to New South. Wales. But we've got to get used to and it's not a trivial phrase a new covid normal. We promised a few days ago that we were going to stop comparing new, south Wales and Victoria, but let's just do it one more time new south. Wales does seem to have like you say. Exceed Pixie level of similar levels virus to what we're seeing in Victoria or at least the confirmed cases that are coming through, and they don't have as many restrictions on them, and we do know as well that it's probably at least a year before we're going to have any kind of vaccine available to that sort of like what we're thinking of as being a trigger for going back to what we used to have as a normal life is what's happening in New South. Wales. Perhaps, a model for what Ustralia could look like over the next year. Well, I think West Australians queenslanders south. Australians would bridal a that because they've got almost nothing happening and they're saying, well, why should we have? Wills has belichick focused on new, south Wales and Victoria for the moment. But I think it is something that queenslanders and others need to be cognizant off is this something we should get used to what we're talking about here for people who don't live in New South Wales is an outbreak from GP clinic now, getting used to is different from getting complacent. So yes I think you gotta get used to the fact that there will be small outbreaks but what we should not do tolerate them and so they're. They're not to be tolerated and our behavior needs to change in the short to medium term which is. Continuing careful social distancing. I believe in new. South. Wales. It should be mandatory mask in public transport just as an extra layer of security. You don't seem to be going that way and really getting on top of outbreaks and people being prepared to get tested if symptoms are in areas where there are outbreaks and if we can do that, then we can cope with these outbreaks but we can't just say. Another outbreak. Let's move on. It's another outbreak. Oh, this could be the moment where this could be the hotel quarantine equivalent moment that we hadn't. In Victoria, whereas if we ignore it is going to get out of control. So get used to not really be able to deal with yes. But just quickly on that, we're talking about being able to be responsive to outbreaks but we see in Shepperton in regional Victoria, they had a the little outbreak happening there people have told to go on to get tested they've gone to go and get tested. They've done what's been asked but they haven't been. Able to access testing this huge queues, how are we going to be out of style up to these? Well, that's for health departments to sort out, but they've got to be ready for particularly in rural and regional areas because this is something that you just need one truck driver to have arrived in a place in spread it and we've already seen somebody hiding away in trying to get into Queensland you just need one person and to move into our networks and off. So everywhere it's got to be ready and you to be ready for scale up and a plan for scale up so. Somebody throws a switch and people start with doing and they set up to prop up clinics, and within a few hours you've got it all going and that's what people have got to plan for and the best thing that can happen is you never have to institute your emergency response, but your emergency response has got to be really Schmidt and if he wants to know. More about how we've tooled up for contact tracing, how good it is, they listen to yesterday's Khurana cast with Ryan McIntyre where we covered a lot of these issues and that chat with Rhino was so interesting and there was stuff in there that we couldn't fit into yesterday's show. So we thought we'd bring it back again in prerecorded form to answer a question from Ingrid. Where Ingrid's ask if a person who has the virus uses a toilet does the next person inhale the virus spray in the toilet is flushed with the lead up and is the virus in urine faeces? Yum. This is just the sort of question that croquettes listeners love energy with toilets. Let's have a listen to yesterday's comments by Rhino McIntyre, which weren't in the krona cast. So this is a bonus we're talking about. And toilets on aeroplanes. We do know that there is a risk with closed transport vehicles with its planes buses. There's been a number of outbreaks already described on airplanes on buses and other vehicles including A. A navy ship whether it was a very, very high tech right? the Theodore Roosevelt in the US. The risk isn't just from Aerosol, droplets spread I mean we know that the highest risk isn't people sitting closest to the infected person and that's been born out in previous studies with diseases like to book your license and Maizels. But the toilet is also respected. There was one study where they were known infected people on board everybody was wearing a mosque and one of the people who became infected took the mosque off in the toilet. So we know that flushing the toilet can create aerosolize -ation. Probably. Less. So on an airplane toilet because of the nature of those toilets that don't have water swilling around, but they still would be rissole generation from the flushing action. So, the hall toilet is probably highly contaminated. So even if you wash your hands afterwards, you could breathe in contaminated aerosols than when you come out even just touching the door handle would be a risk. So that's that's probably one of the real hot spots on an airplane. That was Professor Rhino McIntyre who is professor of global biosecurity at Curbing University of New South Wales

Tensions Overshadow NATO Meeting Intended as Show of Unity
"Start start with the ongoing NATO summit here in the UK it is meant to mark the seventieth anniversary of the military alliance bought. Disagreements have threatened to who over shadow celebration Robert. The summit began yesterday with us. President Donald Trump's attack on French president Mo mccraw as micro had earlier called NATO brain debt. What did you make a fuss? Well trump absolutely played to His his his absolute he. He was big completely consistent in that he likes strong men who he thinks like him and and he hates rivals. That's the crudity of it but I'm macron has come in for something of a beating not only for trump but also from the German leadership suggesting somehow the could be a displacement or replacement or winding down in Europe European security of NATO building up the defense component payment of the European Union e. e. d. u. and the other things that are which which Germany is not prepared to accept. It's not prepared to accept by the way also the NATO. I told him that they go up. Two percent of GDP. They say ten twelve years off that by the way if they were to do it tomorrow. That'd be the third military power in the world but the engagement with Russia is really terribly. Terribly important McCall the Italians particularly to say we must engage h with Russia You know that despite everything. It's a pity that the the the the NATO arrangements have really gone into neglect. The and this has enraged. Of course the new eastern part but cotton us of of NATO. There is real substance to this route. But I don't want to take cap the conversation dominated but actually there is more to macron's argument than the he's been given credit for. Let's talk about Russia moments bus but Carol s Robert mentioned our there are big questions now weaving the NATO over the future of the alliance over money also over Turkey's behavior do you think the summit in the UK. We'll find any solutions. I think this summit will be an attempt to paper over the cracks. I think they want to try and put on a show of unity. We've had the British prime. I'm Minister Boris Johnson. Arriving saying that it is one for all all for Juan and Jens Stoltenberg secretary general saying it's the most successful swill alliance in history because we've changed. The world has changed but I think the problem is that it hasn't sufficiently adapted to the changing attitudes. It's a some of its key players. that comment from President mccraw about NATO being brain dead was because he's looking at NATO which is after all a political as well as a military alliance you have now got in the American president trump. Someone who has questioned America's engagement in the alliance in the past that he's now saying he's committed a to it you have had Turkey which didn't even consult key NATO allies before waded into Syria. And what you've got now. Is this alliance that was constructed to join the the end to try and confront the Soviet bloc during the Cold War which hasn't hasn't really worked out what it strategic purpose is now and although there's a lot of talk now about what the attitude to will be with China but it will be towards sabree threats and so on it hasn't really worked out a new overall strategic direction and I think that's what President Macron was referring to so robots looking looking at this strategy and what NATO's functioning at the moment is there any agreement between the states member states over who or what is the the biggest threat at the moment is it is terrorism or what. Now this is This is high theology which has been around. I was at the think-tank forum-goer I'm Greg Cote engagement NATO. Yes Day and it was very interesting by the way how was generation split that a lot of young people. They had a lot of the debates. Only open people speaking from the floor if they are under thirty five sons a bit mad bit work but it was terrific. It was terribly important and you saw really. What a fundamental difference was? This is an an enormous area of debate. And you're absolutely right in your question and I'm going to illustrate it. Only with one anecdote with three prime ministers in succession on the stage together together with Justin Trudeau and marketer of the Netherlands are absolutely accomplished uric euro performer Ruta. But before him it was the extraordinary absolutely straight out of Borgen Earner Solberg of Norway. NSO book was asked to consider the whole scenario Korea. Russia the works they know about what is your greatest strategic threat. The melting of the Ice Cap Justin Trudeau was hopeless. He was absolutely his mother. The Sun was Apple Pie and hugging trees. Where really were ready for piece? Actually in fact he did down what the Canadians have been doing in Syria left Galveston than Don don good fighters most intriguing was Huta. You thought he would be the most accomplished God talk about a snake oil salesman. He would not put what his hand up for anything. Not even a commitment for about the second or third richest country in the EU a NATO putting its hind in its pocket to go to two few percent of GDP. He said No. We're not going to do it so that tells you where we are. There is a fractured leadership on generation. Lines absolutely what. Carol Carol said it. It's going to hold together for the time being but to come back to macron Laura detail in all seriousness. He did awesome very important questions because the foundation is a union of Democracies and Turkey. Certainly doesn't look much like a democracy to most of the allies now. Let's look at the dynamics between the NATO elitist. There's a newly released video that seems to show Justin Trudeau. Boris Johnson. Emily mccraw Make Fun of Donald Trump. Are they ganging up on him. Will it was some wonderful footage. which any of our listeners could probably find fairly easily with a a quick search on the Internet of them the reception at Buckingham Palace and they do seem to be poking fun at trump for waiting in with his own little impromptu news conference yesterday? I think we shouldn't shouldn't make too much of that specific incident but I think that what he does is show this This real concern that there is is on the suspicion of where from really is on this We know that he doesn't really like these. Multilateral organizations we know that he's he's been hugely critical of in particular many of the European members of NATO not putting sufficient funds and sufficient resources into the NATO part. He's been very critical of that. He seems so far on this trip to have been on his best behavior. Trying going to say that trying to stay out of the UK election which is something that the conservatives who are battling away with polling day just a week or so away now he he pulled back from waiting too much into the election campaign he has kept his comments. Pretty supportive of NATO. But I think when you saw that little Vignette of the other world leaders apparently mocking trump underlying that is all these big doubts about whether trump's halt halt really still is in the NATO alliance you're a detachment didn't become with trump Obama hugely popular in Europe with far more eurosceptic. Almost the for P people around trump. I think it's terribly healthy. That McCall and Boris and Justin Trudeau chatting away. They all mate actually the the the interesting intelligent womb people. And that's a great thing. It's great for my country Britain. Whatever you say about Boris and I know him well he does engage? They like talking to him and he was having a sip of champagne even though he'd promised he wasn't going to touch a drop of drink until brexit assault. It just just finally before we move on. Obviously we have to talk about how trump's visit is reflected in the UK politics right before general elections. So so Carrie. What is interesting is that we haven't seen that many photos of trump and Johnson together this time for example? Have we know extraordinary. The lengths to which Downing Street has gone to to try to prevent photos of President trump and Boris Johnson. buddying up together and when you think about previous visits of. US The president's it is really quite extraordinary but the backdrop to this is that Boris Johnson's opponent Jeremy Corbyn one of the central themes of his attack on the Conservatives is that we're going to get a trump style US UK trade deal if the Conservatives win on that will push up drugs prices in the National Health Service and it's going to cost us all hundreds of millions of pounds every every week now the conservatives have flatly denied that they flatly denied the NHS will be affected in any future trade deal. But the problem is that in the the UK trump is not exactly a popular figure. And I think the conservatives who are ahead in the polls at the moment no that if Boris is seen to be using using up too much to his old friend Donald that is not gonNA play well with the British Electric. And that's why even though they did meet in Downing Street last night there were no pitches the two of them together.

Are these girls being forcibly converted?
"The forced conversion to Islam of young women and girls in Pakistan is causing tensions and one of the country's poorest provinces distraught families say goals are being kidnapped kidnapped and forced to convert clerics say they're converting of their own free will and South Asia correspondent Chevanton. You found is hard to what's the women themselves gave police this video of two Pakistani sisters reciting Islamic versus went viral in Pakistan. It'd be arena and Ravina assistance from a small village in Sindh province which is one of the poorest parts of Pakistan. It's also home to many of the country's largest religious minority Hindus soon after these sisters converted from Hinduism to Islam. They were married to local Muslim was lamenting over the entire process was filmed and a variety of phone video clips emerged in one the two sisters sisters and two men sit squeezed together on a sofa as a cleric rates from a religious text. All the videos were shed far and wide on social. Media has people debate it. Did these girls convert of their own free will or were they forced. There's no way of knowing the full story behind that conversions and marriages or whether they wanted it all to be filmed and publicized but activists say it's an example of something Pakistan's Owing Human Rights Commission says is a national problem it in its annual report. The commission said that More Than One thousand underage girls were forcibly converted last year in Sindh province alone. There's been A.. Consistent stream of conversions of low cost Mina Hindu goals over the past several years the commission road in its annual report in April around one thousand Oakland Christian and Hindu minority women converted to Islam and then forcibly married off to their abductors or rapists. The commission reported earlier this month sins provincial assembly pasta resolution demanding an end to the practice. It was supported unanimously including by local members of Prime Minister Imran Khan's Tarija in softball P._T._i.. Potty as well as the hardline Jamaat e Islami group but it's not the first time lawmakers have tried and failed to press for change before influence from religious groups is brought to bear and the passage of laws banning the practice is thwarted cases like Rena and Ravinus grab headlines in India and Pakistan influential. Nobody in the case of these sisters even led to politicians from both countries trading BOB's over religious freedom on on twitter coverage on four hundred many Douglas Marie Ibox the Human Rights Commission says forced conversion flourishes because the local authorities look the other way and and because religious organizations including Madris's facilitate indeed orchestrate the targeting vulnerable girls from the poorest families and the lowest costs some people say the girls go willingly because converting and marrying a slightly wealthy Moslem man gives them economic opportunity at the other end of the spectrum are accusations Happened Mr Lau says his daughter just thirteen and fifteen years old and you husbands and the religious leaders who read them say they're eighteen and nineteen despite being married in in Sindh where the legal age for marriage is eighteen they were quickly moved to a different province by these men to Punjab where the legal marriage age is only sixteen you Mr Lau protested outside local police stations eventually made its way to court with the involvement of some local law makers and advocates for the Hindu Community but an issue wasn't whether the girls can send it to be married or converted willingly or if they were abducted adopted the only issue being ruled on was whether they were eighteen and therefore old enough to marry the court was essentially deciding whether the girls would go back to their parents house else will be told to remain within new husband's sisters appeared at court once their faces fully covered in black nick up before they were ordered to stay a safe house for for the duration of court proceedings. Japan hosts G20 summit
"So look, let's do this. Let's just put today's program on hold K till President Trump and Chinese president Xi didn't paying have their meeting over the g twenty in Osaka. Saturday morning Japan time, it's only going to be another five maybe six more hours. We'll have to wait because honestly, a whole lot of what's going to happen in this economy and in China's economy in the short and medium-term kinda depends on what happens at that meeting radio deadlines being what they are though. We do kind of have to keep going so we will do that on this Friday with McCain's from the economist Kate Davidson from the Wall Street Journal. Hey, everybody. Let me start with you. And I guess ask you to test my premise. I'm I for a fact but there's a lot riding on this g twenty meeting. Yeah. Yeah. There is rather low writing on it. This is the big one so that has been progress in Nick. Between China and America has stoled that was a big falling out a little while ago. And this is the meeting where they decide whether things can get back on track. And if they can't then not means tires of twenty five percent around three hundred billion dollars worth of imports. That would not be great for consumers in America. If a business confidence, all sorts of things, we're Kate with that being the sword hanging over sward. How about soared hanging over everybody's head. What do you think's gonna happen? Well, I think that a real, it's really hard to say right. I think that some corporate lobbyists are hoping that the talks can produce a plan to finish negotiations by specific deadline. So it's not as other gonna come out of meeting with some kind of plan. Right. But the, the hope is that they will agree to resume talks in a meaningful way. That is yes. Sort of setting setting a firm, timeline. You know, both sides are under pressure here to deliver something. And presumably if there, if there is some kind of sign of progress President Trump would refrain from moving ahead with tariffs during that time period. I think that that's the that's the hope you know, there's, there's other benefits like a ceasefire on trade could give the two sides momentum. And like a possible path to sort out a number of other issues. Right. You know, China's hold on the South China Sea, and, and the US campaign against Chinese technology firms. You like wow, way over security concerns. So there are other things riding on this as well. She made talk. Talk to me for a second. I mean, we kind of have a sense of what President Trump has going on here in terms of what's on the line for him, right? Economic expansion and, and jobs in domestic growth, your talk to me about Xi Jinping would, you know and what he's got a at risk. Yeah. So, so the Chinese have a really complicated situation so, so festival, you've got this internal battle politically. So you have a group of reformers, who wanted to almost take advantage of the pressure from the Trump administration to get through some kind of liberalization. And then you have the hardliners the hawks who are very worried about China, you know, being seen to be pressured by the Trump administration to have the Americans undermined the sovereignty and to make them look weak. Right. So, so Xi Jinping has got to weigh up those two and, and make sure that the political blowback the political fallout isn't too great. Obviously economically. The Chinese economy is going through a dicey time that trying to deleverage as a lot of debt swilling around that Konami. And if growth, Fulton than than achieve not becomes more difficult Kate less than on this, and then I want to move on. But, but put this all in the context of. A global economy which as smell Luda to is, is slowing certainly in China arcana me showing some signs. It's there are. There are some peril. Yes, there is. I think if we're thinking about it through the lens of just US. Policymakers trade is really the, the biggest uncertainty right now we have the fed thinking about whether they need to cut interest rates. They've signaled pretty strongly that they'd be willing to do that. In the coming months, if the trade tensions worsen, so you said there's a lot riding on this. I think that I think officials over at the fed will be paying close attention to developments this weekend. They're going to be meeting again at the end of July fed chairman Jerome Powell was asked his last press conference, you know, if there was not a trade if there was a trade deal with that take a rate cut off the table. He said, not necessarily, but they're all it's all feels very intertwined. So I think yeah, the next several months, depend greatly on what happens this weekend.

What's driving the demand furred cleaner? Energy. And and battery storage is it from consumers, or is it you tell these who are looking to costs. Oh, I think it's definitely a bit of vote. And if I may add taught elementary are facing a huge climate change problem today since that as being driven by that liters that are directing the utilities to go for cleaner winnable grid. But obviously, you know, one of the drivers is the cost reductions that we have seen while solar panels in the past fifteen years or so and and MAURICE being last eight to ten years back cost was come down pretty significantly talking about about eighty percent concert option or the bass decade for battery storage bribe you've been in the renewable energy sector for about a decade is demand accelerating now more quickly than anticipated. Yeah. So I mean, I'm gonna try to not good be game of thrones reference the coming, but we've been talking about since the beginning of this could be. He had been talking about that any historic this that next thing that is going to be wanted tonight the way the grid operates looks and for the first five years or so of that Becky that promise was never full for but something triggered in twenty to twenty sixteen. And when I say something, it's dominantly the hostile. Of course, the cost came to a level where those an automatic crossover. You know, you're you're ready to go hockey stick adoption of any any technology the first few years, it's it's flat. And then you reach that inflection point and the market just picks up. There are several drivers by the utilities and the end customers getting more familiar with that technology. That's a big splash. When they said, they're gonna selling power walls in fifteen that's going sided with the reason interest from the various market participants be and customers like residential winners or even large electric utilities or even some of the commercial players. Ravi megani is director of energy storage at wood McKenzie. He expects you. Scale battery projects to pick up a lot in twenty nineteen hard about maybe due to tax incentives winding down starting in twenty twenty now to get max cash back while it's available. I'm jed Kim. The Warren peace report, I made me good. Then we begin today's show looking at secretary of defense, James. Madness. Who's announced he's resigning at the end of February while publicly rebuking, President Trump's foreign policy matters resigned. One day after President Trump ordered the withdrawal of all two thousand US troops from Syria and on the same day reports emerged that Trump has ordered the withdrawal of about seven thousand troops from Afghanistan. That's about half the current US force there it is resignation letter General Mattis, four star, general and -plicitly criticized President Trump's foreign policy. He wrote my views on treating allies with respect and also being clear eyed about both malign actors strategic competitors are strongly held informed by over four decades of immersion in these issues. We must do everything possible to advance and international order that is most conducive to our security prosperity in values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances unquote, Madison onto say because you have the right to have a secretary of defense whose views are better. Aligned with yours on these and other subjects I believe. It's right for me to step down from my position. He said in the letter Madison, not make a direct reference to Syria, but he did call out Russia and China the New York Times reports Madison's the first prominent cabinet member to resign in protest over a national security issue in almost forty years. Much of the Washington establishment express shock over Madison's resignation democratic Senator Mark Warner Virginia said quote. This is scary secretary Mattis has been an island of stability. Amidst. The chaos of the Trump administration Republican Senator Mark Rubio, Florida responded to Madison's resignation saying it makes it abundantly clear that we're headed towards a series of grave policy errors, which will endanger our nation damage our alliances and empower our adversaries unquote prior to his time at the Pentagon. Madison served as head of US central. Command supreme allied commander of NATO in two thousand four lead the US marine attack on the Iraqi city of flu in may of two thousand four he ordered an attack on a wedding party near Syria. Forty-two civilians were reportedly killed including thirteen children. We turn now to Andrew base of it show, retired Colonel in Vietnam war veteran, he's the author of several books, including his latest twilight of the American century. His other books include America's war for the greater Middle East military history in Washington rules, America's path to permanent war. He's professor emeritus of international relations and history at Boston University. He also lost his son in Iraq, professor engine base of each welcome back to democracy. Now, if you could I respond to the resignation of the secretary of defense, and then if this were President Obama, and he was announcing the. Pullout of troops from Syria and half the force from Afghanistan. Wouldn't the peace movement be celebrating? What is your response? This is an interesting situation. I have to think that Trump must have expected that this abrupt announcement of withdrawal from Syria would lead to Mattis's of resignation in it probably something that Trump welcomes. There's no question that Mattis has been an obstacle to Trump's efforts to reorient US policy particularly policy in the Middle East. No medicines letter of resignation that you quote, it when he talked about his four decades of a gauge -ment with these matters is very telling he represents the establishments perspective that has involved over the course of those for decades. And for anyone says looks at you as policy over the past four decades. Particularly in the Middle East and says, yeah, it's really going. Well, then then I would think that they would you Madison's resignation as as a disappointment. Now when Trump ran for the presidency, he denounced our wars in the Middle East. He promised to withdraw militarily from the Middle East two years into his presidency. That hasn't happened in many respects Madison's been among those who frustrated the president's efforts. He's the commander of chief. Nettie seems not to be able to get things done. So here he is acting as the commander cheese now, I'm in the camp, the thanks that we ought to wind down these wars. We got more important things to do. My only problem with Trump's decision is like so many of Trump's decisions it's done impetuously overnight. Not having been thought through not having been coordinated. Yes, let's get out of Syria. But that doesn't mean leash. Should have a policy with respect to the civil war in Syria. I think that the way Trump is approaching this thing, we don't have any policy, and that's going to be a problem. Ghia think there's a connection to the murder of Jamaica show Chan let let me explain you have the CIA saying, they believe that the crown prince of Saudi Arabia was responsible for his death and dismemberment and in stumble in Saudi consulate so you then have President Trump dealing with air doin-. And apparently this week they had a conversation. There's this threat of air doin that he's going to go after the Kurds. These are the US allies the Kurds soldiers in Syria and Trump perhaps aired one knows something more about the murder certainly has been releasing information that looks that makes the Trump administration. Very bad and their supported the crown prince also Jared Kushner, a Senate lost so close to an advising the crown prince and dealing with this murder. That aired one says we're gonna Tak the courage. You gotta stop being there and protecting them. And so Trump says he's pulling out.
