That's when the average life expectancy went down 11.8 years in one year. That's how bad the Spanish flu was the the this flu this covid whatever you want to call a virus flu covid is more like the Asian flu of 1957. And, uh 1957 President Dwight David Eisenhower were out asked Congress for $2.5 million in additional public funding for the public health service that was the CDC predecessor during the Asian flu. Overall, this time around, Congress has authorized about two million times that much for Covid 19. So for every dollar that was spent in 1957, they've spent $2 million This year. Two million bucks. You know all the categories of cancer or heart disease, pneumonia, flu and all those diabetes stroke accidents? Yeah. Exactly. I went on this week last couple days and there was one that was not there. It was taken off and it represents 150,000 deaths and the whole category was taken off. What was it a lower respiratory disease. Please. I'd like to see if someone could verify what I saw. I I don't know the I don't know the answer to that question. I'll check it out, though well, or someone will check it out for us. Ethan, you're next with Howie Carr. Go ahead, Ethan. Hey, how you doing today? Good. Um, so the your doctor, I listened to him. That was pretty good. But what I heard recently was that the they're saying, And now it's a pandemic of the unvaccinated that is complete baloney. The breakthrough cases that they're really not talking a whole lot about these are the people that have been vaccinated. And they are getting sick and and they're saying, Well, it's a mild sickness or whatever, but nonetheless they're getting sick, But they're making it. Look, It sounds like that. "Weekend comedian Tim Slog. Oh, they will be participating with Sam in the Friday news quiz Coming up at 8 40 this morning 35 this morning, representative Tom Emmer joins us. Very pleased for weapon him to the show. Good morning, buddy. How are you? Good morning, John. I don't it contents Swagel still be a comedian. There's nothing funny anymore. Er, Tim Slag ALS barely funny anymore. Remember, but nothing. There's nothing out there is funny at all. It's actually funny. You mentioned that, um I was reading a tweet from Joe Paige. Joe PAGs and I lost it. But I guess there's a new term now and it's over. Woke and over Woke is when you take a word that's relatively benign, But then you apply some sort of arbitrary standard to it. And now it's become inappropriate. Okay, so that's over. So now with others over woke, you've over woke. You have over woke it So, Yeah, so that was that was that was a new one. So I've heard of that. We've got to start over. You're going to have to write a Children's book and explain this to me, representative Tom Emmer. This $579 billion in Infrastructure agreement looks over woke It sounds. It sounds like an agreement a president who's not sure which road he wants to be on a speaker of the house who says this thing is not going anywhere without my bill. And only 20. Senators in the in the Senate can dams Senate Republicans That sounds like a big guy? Uh, overall formula for success, folks know I'm just I'm not bullish on this guys. Look, they told you yesterday that they reached a quote unquote bipartisan agreement and here in the bubble called the Hill. There's all this garbage they're spewing out about. Oh, the president basks in the glow, albeit perhaps short of a bipartisan success, really? Really, Here's what they've done. They've agreed, apparently on a number of the legislative text, quote unquote will be drafted over the next few weeks. That is the Senate's version of the legislative text. We don't even know what it says yet. Ladies and gentlemen, once it shows up, then the word is this. I'll find it for you because I was just reading it this morning. The word is how did they put it? They said that his proposals for family infrastructure and climate change if it doesn't pass, then neither will the bipartisan infrastructure deal that they allegedly just struck. So guys, it's say it's the same thing that they were disagreeing on. They just put it in two halves. And, uh, if that isn't enough, guess what they're likely to do with the supposed the agreement that they reached yesterday. They've got a fast approaching depth ceiling limits that they're up against. They really don't have a way to pass it because all of the Republican senators look at it as giving Biden blank checkbook, which they're not willing to do so the most likely approach is to slap a increase in the debt ceiling onto this quote unquote bipartisan deal. What do you think The result is sorry to be so negative about it, But I just I just don't see this thing moving. This sounds to me like it was. It's the the product of an administration. Desperate for anything that can even be remotely perceived as a win. Yes, right. I mean, so they so they call it a bipartisan agreement, But there is no agreement if there's no bill. If there's no text. If there's no language in the legislation, how can you say you have an agreement? You just have an agreement on a on a broad number, But that's it without a bill without legislation without something that you can cast a vote on and get to his desk. There's nothing there it's thin air. While and by the way, the so called a force the way to pay for it are completely fantasy. In any Republican. I'm going to suggest that votes to beef up the IRS. Is just walking on very thin ice. Don't do it thing we need to do is to beef up the IRS that's already been shown to be a complete loser of an approach. So do do. Do they not remember? You know how? How, how badly And how viciously the Obama administration, you know, weaponized agencies like the I R s and And do they not think that the Biden administration would do the exact same thing. Uh, I'm telling you, the answer to all of our problems, according to Biden administration is to hire 80,000 new IRS agents to Chase Americans. Sounds like a great plan and apparently their 10th senators on the other side of the building that are willing to explore. All or part of that, and that's just not. That's not a winning formula. Guys. I'd love to be positive about this. Did you just get back to doing what the House has already proposed, which is a bill that focuses on roads and bridges focuses on ports and airports can focus certainly on some transit. Some water, sure. And water infrastructure. Uh, the broadband stuff? Sure, but if they could just focus on that step, you would have members of both parties saying, Hey, this is something worth really taking a serious look at This is all politics all the time. Well representative member That was a that was that was optimistic and lighthearted. I really feel better about the state of the world after that conversation. I don't give. I know it gave him a lot of materials. Yeah, Yeah. Well, thanks for joining us, man. Always a fun chat with you, and we will catch up with you next Friday. Okay? All right, guys. Have a great take care. Think we should add a trigger warning there? Yeah, that segment content? No. Um, we have these two stories that will get you next. Um, one is from am greatness. Deprogramming of January six defendants is underway. Another one is The story out of the New York Post of this guy. This this really good seems to be really good person whose life has just been turned upside down and shredded over what the FBI has has done to him. Real quick comment, though, Drew you made you made a statement to to Emma of the Biden administration, looking for anything to call a win and You are 100% accurate and just win in the middle of when when we were talking with them. I wrote it down. Look at look at look at look at a couple of different items really quick. Trump goes to the border. Suddenly now common has got to go to the border because that's bad optics right poll comes out showing that 60 plus Democrats 16% plus Democrats. What voter ID suddenly now the Democrats, you know, start gaslighting. We never said We didn't want voter voter ID, even for it the whole time, and now we're getting all the data of the of the rampant crime and homicide rates around the country in these progressive run cities. Polling data comes out and shows that America's number one concern right now is crime. And suddenly what does Biden doing pops up. I'm very worried about crime and we're going to. We're going to deal with the gun violence issue, you know, like the guns suddenly just walked out of their cases and started going into Cindy's and causing mayhem. They've had enough. They're playing catch up, man. We're playing catch up there behind the eight ball on every issue. The sad thing is, you know if we had a competent media It would be calling these things out for what they are. They'd be pointing these things out, but they don't They go out and they celebrated and they pair it. Whatever talking point, the bite administration wants to put out there. We got the Friday round table in the house. We will continue more. And your phone calls are welcome at 651989. 5855. We'll be right back Justice and.

I said I was going to put nightcrawlers and school bandits and they're just put the icing on the cake. Yep. Yeah. Then you'd feel like you're at home. Like what? We're trying to create an environment where you feel most comfortable A year into this. Would you feel more at home? If we put some night crawlers? Absolutely. And it's in there. John? Yeah, and then we'll get crazy will eat the night crawling. Oh, no, no, no, I don't eat baked. I do not eat bait. I don't want to be the uppity one here on the show, but I refused to eat bait. I paid him 100 bucks to eat a cake that was sitting out for four days. Would you eat half a night crawler with hot sauce for 20? Bring my night crawling. Do I get to wash off the nightcrawler? Yeah. Because I'll tell you what I tell you. What water? His name is not Adam of God, That it is. A name is that Jackass Police were here and they want to arrest you, Chris Black. Listen, by the way to see Jackass. Four had to be stopped and production because two guys had to go to the what The stunt was not just to read the started. And it's I started laughing so hard. You know how you know they're like 50 0. I know. Yeah. I grew up with them. Basically, not personally. But watching that I listen. You've had a change of heart. I was on the train last night and then I was walking home and it was cold out. I was thinking to myself. Why did I say that? I don't eat strange things. I am kind of plane when it comes to my food choices. Teriyaki. Did you get intimidated by the boss being here? My Thomas being in the studio. It just came out of my mouth. But I clearly am not the person that usually says stuff like that. You do that to Chris. Emmett's Just 20 bucks. Just a firm. That's good protein. Yeah, I don't know why I said that. We got the night crawlers. I asked her big, plump, juicy night crawlers are wiggling everywhere thinking myself. He isn't a worm just filled with guts. Poop? That's not physically. I don't want anyone to attack here. Bring it. But like I mean, I would just ask people on Twitter. How big of a transgression is this? I mean, Chris decided that you know what my mouth got My my mouth. Got my ass a little bit of trouble here. He's lucky that he's got a broadcast partner. They're willing to take the radio bullet for telling that already put his foot in his mouth and is willing to keep his foot to go through really in his mouth and will eat this. What kind of a leash he gives a goalie like if you give up a couple of goals, too. You know the other guy. I mean, I don't know. So that is going to be fascinating to watch. You got that right. Blue jackets controlled play from the get go. They win their exhibition game against Boston for the one in Toronto, the C B J with a three first period goals. The last two Bye, Zack Wolinsky and Gus Nyquist. We're late in the period. They came only 36 seconds apart. All star Seth Jones, a storyline in this one coming off that serious foot injury suffered in February was back on the ice again. There's nothing like playing a game. You know you could do all the practice you want Interscope scrimmages, But soon as you get in the game at the fields completely different, So don't say that's dropping, But it's nice get hit. Tonight is nice to have pressure on me to feel that way again, and now I have to. We have to be the best we could be in the short time Jackets Toronto serious start Sunday. Tonight. The goalie's last night split time both played well in John Tortorella says he's still undecided on the game one starter. How would you like to see Ohio State Michigan to start the year? But Boo Say it again, who might be another Ah reason to boot 2020 because they may not be the first game, but it is possible and it sounds like it's going to be an early season game rather than later. We're it isthe, so we'll have to play that game and then You have game the next week. Now I know that that's happened. I don't want to live in a world where the Maryland game decides who wins the big death, Okay? I just I mean, 2020 has sucked hard enough. Okay, Can you please just give me one thing That's normal? You're not feeling like Ohio State, Illinois At the end of the year. I see needs the wind, you know. Does. "Black woman fighter jet pilot gets her wings of gold this week. A story from CBS's Daniel Bacchus Lieutenant junior grade. Matalin Squiggle is making history as the Navy's first black female tactical jet pilots. I am really honored that I get to where the wings and fly planes and call myself a pilot. Hip hip Thie, Virginia native graduated from the U. S Naval Academy in 2017 before flight school. She had never even been in an airplane that was really excited on takeoff, like feeling the exhilaration and getting thrown back in the seat a little bit. That was awesome. Currently only 15 black female aviator serve in the Navy. Swagel hopes those numbers change. And

"Live everywhere on the I Heart radio at having a great day. We've got things to talk about today. We've got a lot of things to talk about. Talk a little bit about some sensitive issues because it has to do with Ah has to do with things that frankly, we tend to find ourselves whispering about because sometimes it's contentious and there's there's stress associated with it. And what all of these conversations need. Franklin is an abundance of candor. Just just blatant basic honesty, I think goes so far. First of all, I want to acknowledge somebody who I think is extraordinary. That would be Navy Lieutenant Madeline Swagel, who made history as the United States Navy's first black female tactical fighter pilot. She'll receive her wings of gold on Friday. She says that she's really honored to get to where the wings and get to fly planes and call myself a pilot. That was her statement in a video released by the Navy. Ahead of her July 31st ceremony, the Virginia native celebrated historic achievement earlier this month after she completed her training at the U. S. Naval Academy, he said, I don't think the the goal in my life is a sze to necessary to be the first at anything. That was never something I set out to do. It was just something I was interested in, and I found out later. She also explained that as a young girl, she looked up and saw the blue Angels flying as she wanted to be part of that, and she established herself distinguished herself accordingly. And if you have not had occasion to Ah, To be around the blue angel pilots and see what they're all about The extraordinary discipline that they represent It is. It is really, truly something to behold and celebrate and admire. I have extraordinary admiration for people who who mastered that level of complex. Skill to engage in that precise level of very, very high speed flying. It's incredible. The complex nature of what it takes to get there I think is ah. Is very, very impressive and she should be celebrated, should she not. That is an extraordinary feat. I think anybody race gender notwithstanding anybody who reaches that plant that level that Pinnacle I should be celebrated. Now, Let's look at the other end of the spectrum. There's a new NFL ad out, and it's a surprised too many. They have released this new anti police brutality. P ECE. Highlighting the story of none other than 22 year old Stefan Clark, who's no stranger to people in this community. He was shot back in March of 2018 by police officers. And, of course, the the the Frankly, the dereliction represented by the media, who on Lee describes this as a young man who was shot in his grandmother's backyard is should surprise No. One. But in this particular scenario the NFL has now retained Estefan. Clark's mother, Teo, say cut Clark to to serve as the spokesperson for this cause. They point out that at the time of the shooting a sortie. Authorities say they were responding to a call about a disturbance and shot the young man because they believed he was armed. But an investigation later confirmed the Clark on Lee had a cell phone in his possession. That doesn't begin to represent the truth on that the truth that has been so overwhelmingly exposed so explicitly And so graphically detailed in terms of all of his behavior that night. The conduct in which engaged before that encounter. The fact that it appears very, very much a CZ though this was a young man who charted his own destiny. His plan Wass his ideations that night. Were consistent with somebody looking to end his life. Is that sad? Is that regrettable? Of course it is. A 22 year old man should have nothing but of a bright future, too, to celebrate. But for reasons of his own making, Frankly, he was not in that position. He was not in that frame of mind. So let's just talk a little bit about who Stefan Clark was, and we've we've shared this before. But I think, given the fact that the NFL is elevating his stature to an incredible extent, year it's worthy and, frankly, not telling the truth. They're absolutely refusing to tell the truth, to the extent that they're effectively lying about what took happen on that march. What took place on that March evening, So let's look at Stefan Clark. The records indicate that that he was arrested and charged with felony robbery now understand? A lot of people are confused about what a robbery is. A robbery is not a theft is not merely taking somebody stuff. It's using force or fear to accomplish that theft is taking something from the person of another. This case, an armed robbery, so he's armed in the commission of a felony. And he's taking property from another person by intimidating them and invoking fear. Terrorising them to some degree to cause them to relinquish what they had in their possession. It's not a property crime. It is absolutely a violent crime against a person. And that encounter. He's also charged with assault and endangering the life of a child. He pleaded no contest and spent a year on Sheriff's Department work project to satisfy his jail term. Quite honestly, that's a case, I think, an illustration of where the system failed him. That's that's those are serious criminal actions. Very serious. For which there is a prescribed consequence. That prescribed consequence is several years in jail. That didn't happen. That was the first time the system failed him. I think it was failed by others in his life. But in terms of the criminal justice system, that was the start. Then, in late 2015 he was charged with misdemeanor loitering with the intention to engage in prostitution after sheriff's deputy stopped him in a woman while they were driving at a high prostitution and crime area North Islands. Again, he pleaded no contest. There was also a component of pimping and pandering. The mother of his Children, his beloved Children that he pimped and pandered on that occasion, a felony. Nothing charged as a felony all reduced. And ah At no time in custody 2016 is charged with domestic violence, resulting in a traumatic condition to the victim..

"News. The issue of how black Americans live in are treated in the U. S. Has moved to the forefront since the police killing of George Floyd. This isn't the first time that issue's been in the spotlight to discuss why black Americans have not made enough progress since the civil rights era were joined by Idris Kalume, D C based policy correspondent for the Economist. Thanks for being with us Thanks for having me now. This is an issue that will take much more than the short amount of time. We have to talk about it now. So let's start with you writing that realistic policies needed to speed things up do exist. Yeah, absolutely. The focus right now is on criminal justice and the big contributor to the continuation of stagnation Fact that black Americans still about 1/10 the wealth of white Americans it has to do with continued segregation in schools and neighborhoods. That's persisted despite the end of the civil rights era, and there will be that we can address that. The focus now is topped by policing in the criminal justice system, as you say, but his financial inequality a bigger issue. These are all contributing to the continuation of of continued disparities in income and wealth, and it's important to focus on all of them at once, then it's good that the movements right now is focused. A lot on justice. But also you also need to know what I think to be the engine of ah of a lot of these disparities, which is the fact that too many black Children live in neighborhoods of concert in poverty Right now, they have poor performing schools. The way that you fix those things. Addressing zoning rules you make their house housing vouchers worked better making her schools are equally funded, I think are all vitally important as well to making sure that there is actual movement 50 years from now. And how did this all drop out these issues since the civil rights era? Well, you know, we see that you know the wealth gap to the same and we see that you know the wage gap there also the same. I think that there was initial burst of of activism on things like school district ation. There was initial burst on like the great side anti poverty programs. That impulse he seems to have gone out. I think from politicians of both of the aisle And renewing that, in addition to some of the effort that are going on now, I think is vitally important to making spare that in another 50 years. We don't end up having a similar conversation. Okay. Thank you very much for your insight on this. Thank you. It's interest.
