"There's a pretty good track record of some epic ground. How groundhog day fails. yeah Some of the worst moments in history. Not only for the whistle pig itself. But for its handlers. Pretty controversial moments over the years. It was back on february. second twenty fourteen. You remember this. don't you mayor. Bill de blasio. New york flinched as the handler placed. Chuck in his arms. How much would would with chuck chuck chuck chuck would causing the groundhog to fall to the ground now. The groundhog was actually a female stand in for chuck named charlotte and sadly well passed away several days later. Oh yes but circling the wagons. You had the staten island zoo coming out and saying that it appeared unlikely that the groundhogs death was related to the fall. And that's their story and they're sticking to it now unfortunately back in two thousand sixteen. Stonewall jackson was a groundhog never made to a ceremony on he actually passed away. On the eve of the holiday jackson's death resulted in the cancellation of groundhog day. Ceremonies ending a streak of more than twenty years of predictions at the space farms. Zoo m museum in sussex new jersey and then there was chuck tyson on february. Second of two thousand fifteen. You had mayor jonathan freud. His name of wisconsin. Well let's say. He got a little unwanted attention from jimmy. The groundhog as jimmy chuck tyson. The groundhog bit. The mayor's left ear. that left a mark. Yeah apparently The mayor leaned in to hear jimmy's prediction and got a little nibble instead. Now at first the mayor said there would be an early spring that he was mistaken. I hear too well as jimmy took a chunk out of his ear. Jimmy actually as did punxsutawney phil. This morning predicted six more weeks of winter february. Second two thousand nine. Staten island chuck. Well he bit then mayor michael bloomberg the bite happened just before chuck made his prediction as the mayor reached into the groundhogs cottage. The groundhog has palatial digs and tried to coax him out with some of his favorite sa k s.'s. Can't say i can't say the word because well my little Rudy is sleeping until he hears that word and then he would allow can get very demanding. Apparently chuck's handler swertz said about bloombert's struggle with the rodent while they were trying to lure him out with corn but i guess he was having none of it and then there was twenty sixteen. You had ed the groundhog from turtle back zoo in west orange new jersey. Apparently this large and go up the overslept. And he missed the ceremony. So otis otis. The hedgehog had to fill in apparently the warm weather change to ed's hibernation pattern which caused him to oversleep this according to county officials. So happy groundhog day. Twenty twenty one to which you say. How can you tell. Yeah i hear you. Twenty twenty Groundhog day every day seemingly. So again my suggestion to you this morning. Take it or leave it Why not just flip the script a little bit. Maybe do something a little bit different today. Albeit suggestion is yeah. You want to make sure that you do it

"Facebook at on point radio with me in studio right now. Eric marcus. He's an LGBTQ historian journalist. And he's hosted the podcast making gay history, which seeks to uncover untold stories of the LGBTQ civil rights movement through the voices of the people who lifted the currencies and focuses on the fiftieth anniversary of the stonewall uprising, Eric welcomed on point delighted to be here. So let's talk a little bit about life like a minute before. Stonewall. Right. I mean when I was camp blue Emma in Sussex, New Jersey, when I was ten years old, asleep pretty much I wanted to spend the. That there's a lot of talk about I had a girlfriend, too. So that's a long time ago times of apparently changed. Eric, yes, we played cards and held hands. And that was all I ever wanted to do with girls. At sounds very nice. Nice even Newman. If you're out there, it was a wonderful relationship. So this is in some ways, painful, but you want to know how the country talked about gain LGBTQ issues before stonewall. Let's take a moment. Listen to this historic clipped in nineteen sixty seven forty million Americans at least an estimated forty million tuned into watch CBS reports the homosexuals it was network television's first documentary on almost sexuality host interviewer, Mike Wallace referred to the group as the most despise minority in the United States. All sexuality isn't a 'nigma. We'll see a old sexual mores it remains a subject that people find disturbing embarrassing, and the reluctance to discuss it, yet, there is a growing concern about homosexuals in society about their increasing visibility. In preparing this broadcast, CBS news commissioned. A survey by the opinion research corporation, into public attitudes toward homosexuality. We discovered that Americans consider homosexuality more harmful to society than adultery abortion or prostitution. Boy, doesn't that sound great. I'm glad I didn't see that documentary when it was on the air. You can you can imagine what it was like to labor under that kind of derision from CBS news. And you should've seen what time magazine was saying about gay people in the nineteen sixties. Also, it was a time when gay people were still criminal in every state except for Illinois homosexual acts, I should say, we were considered mentally ill and the church did net very good. Things to say about us either well and sometimes still doesn't but he still doesn't. Yeah. In many ways, you know, one of the things I want to figure out is before we get to stonewall itself in a moment, how openly could gays and lesbians, for that matter have relationships, how openly could they even knowledge their orientation at that time, people didn't talk about openly anything in, in those years when I interviewed I started interviewing people in nineteen eighty eight four my history, book, when people talk talk about their lives in the fifties and sixties those who are active in the movement. The early movement which began in. Eighteen fifty. They mostly use pseudonyms. It was very rare for people to use their real names because you could be fired from your job, lose your family, even be affected from your home, and certainly kicked out a college if you were out. So the first time I heard anyone talk about being out was a woman, internist Ecksteen in an interview in nineteen sixty five, the first person who mentioned the idea that gay people needed to be visible, but she also talked about the dangers put that every movement needed. It's martyrs, and there were people like Barbara Giddings, and Frank candy and hell call Randy wicker, but they were really very few and far between because of how much there was to risk and Frank category been fired from his job. So he entered fifty seven so he didn't have anything to lose..

The national weather service says the danger of severe thunderstorms persists in the central U S today, these could reach from northern Texas up into Illinois. The weather service has nearly twenty reports of potential tornadoes on Tuesday, and the bulk of them struck Kansas. Jay Shafer of Kansas public radio says one massive twister hit west of Kansas City, injuring a dozen people. The tornado was enormous at times. A mile wide it touched down south of Lawrence home to the university of Kansas and stayed on the ground for nearly two hours as it headed east toward Kansas City along the way, it crossed major highways that connect Lawrence and Kansas City, just as the evening commute was beginning to wind down the tornado struck. Several small towns along the way, including Lynnwood, where dozens of homes were destroyed or severely damaged. Kansas City itself was mostly spared as the tornado finally. Lifted back into the sky for NPR news. "To believe what Trump's what hypocrites what about the underage girls who accused you according to the FBI? Bob Menendez is being forced to deny allegations of engaging with prostitutes sex with underage Dominican Republic. It's right here in this shocking. FBI affidavit, President Obama's Justice department had evidence that for several years. Menendez have been traveling to the Dominican Republic to engage in sexual activity with prostitutes, some of whom minors even as young sixteen worse after the FBI cotton lying about your trips to the Dominican Republic urine, lawyers even argued that having sex with underage girls. Overseas would hardly be a federal crime outrageous. Will be as a society begin to believe really, Bob. It's time for you to go. I'm bob. I approve this message. I was raised here. So is my Republican opponent. I never forgot my roots. He has. I'm fighting for equal pay and affordable healthcare. He's for corporate tax breaks. I'm working to lower prescription costs. You can cancer patients, and I'm standing up to Donald Trump. He donated hundreds of thousands to. I've never forgotten where I come from and who signed on and now that's never mattered more. I'm Bob Menendez. And I approve this message. Some of the ads now on the air in New Jersey, and Michael Smerconish what is happening in that race. It's really tough stuff. I live in the Philadelphia suburbs. The Philadelphia media market handles, south jersey. It's New York City that covers north jersey. It's a very expensive state in which to compete because you got to spend money in New York, and you've got to spend money in Philadelphia. And you're right. I'm watching a lot of the commercials, including one that you didn't show that might be brand new that I saw Justice morning. This might be the closing pitch of Bob Menendez. And Steve what are you essentially argues is that he may be the person who separates the country from the worst that could happen in terms of a Trump Republican presidency and continued control of the US Senate. In other words, I read into it. The fact that he was saying you might not like me, you might not like some of that. Which is transpired in my career the indictment which ended in not in a conviction. But take a look the calculus of the Senate. And if they pick off my seat, then it may determine the outcome. Of which way, the Senate goes I thought that was a pretty interesting take maybe a smart take for him. If he can get voters to focus on the very thin margin that separates separates ours. In dis in the US Senate, and a very active in attendance, personal debate that we cover this past week from New Jersey public TV. But with regard to Senator Menendez, even the Philadelphia Enquirer says we endorse him with regret, not a strong endorsement, Philadelphia paper. Right. And and that's the same tack that. I think he now has an is commercial to which I'm referring which is to say, hey, I may have screwed up, and you may not like me, but for better or worse. I am a one person separation perhaps between who controls the Senate. I know you've talked about this on your program often, but your own prediction in two thousand sixteen many people thinking that Hillary Clinton was going to win. Where do you think the disconnect was in what lessons should we take into account on November the sixth? I think there are. So few ticket splitters these days. I grew up in a state this state Pennsylvania with a rich history of of ticket. Splitting people who would send Arlen Specter to the United States Senate as a Republican, but send the quote, unquote, the real Bob Casey to the governor's mansion as a democrat at the same time. Fewer and fewer are splitting tickets these days. And it's become a function of who can drive their vote to the poll most reliably that's hard to gauge sometimes and my mistake in two thousand sixteen and I regret it was not having a better finger on the pulse of just how fired up and angry that Trump constituency would be that they were coming out come hell or high water, and that that was underestimated in states like my own in Wisconsin and in Michigan and a handful of others. So. I'm loath to predict which way this is going to go a week from now common sense. I think tells me that the Democrats have a distinct advantage in retaking control of the house where the margin is only twenty three and historically if if the president in office is underwater an approval rating of less than fifty percent and Trump is then the pickup is somewhere in the thirty three to thirty six range. So it would seem they should be able to make up that ground in the Senate where the advantages to the Republicans because so many more democratic seats are being defended. It's much harder. To call. Our guest is Michael Smerconish his column appears in the Philadelphia Inquirer. And sundays. He's heard Monday through Friday on Sirius XM channel one twenty four. He also hosts his own programs Saturday mornings at nine AM eastern time on CNN title Smerconish. How did they come up with that name? It's a mouthful isn't it, and he's also the author of the latest book clowns to the left of me jokers to the right before we get to our first call how much does your colleague TC dried your conversation, Monday through Friday. Well, look, she's a she's a great person to have with me. She was a Montessori. I know you listen, and I love that. Thank you for that. She was a Montessori school teacher who taught three of my wife and my four children. She didn't have our daughter who is the oldest. But she talked the three boys and my wife, and I met her through her Montessori teaching oddly, she started to sell candles for QVC, very effectively. And I thought aha she's got the media bug. And so one day, I engage her in conversation in the pickup line and said, you know, if you decide not to be a Montessori school teacher, but to pursue some type of a media career. We should have a conversation. And that was the start of her working with me as a producer. And she's been with me for a number of years. Who knew we'll go to Henry right on the Democrats line Henry good morning. Thank you for waiting. Good morning. Mr smith. I'd like to offer a narrative, and I'd like for you to disabuse me of this narrative. Eric prints is the brother of. The secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, Eric prints was in the military, and he got training as a navy seal. Would he got out of the military? He put together a mercenary force of ex special forces soldiers, and he threw his right wing connections. Got an a contract in Iraq with the George W Bush administration where he got even richer than he was now he has changed the blackwater organization to another name. It was the ex e before now something else. Okay. I'm saying all that to say this reports surfaced that Eric prince. Went to the Seychelles on behalf of the Trump transition team and had a meeting with Russians Saudis an Emirati nationals, and they had a meeting and. Eric trans lied about the meeting to the net meeting reportedly took place in January two thousand seventeen only cut to the chase. Michael smerconish? Is there a connection? I don't know. I I was sitting here listening to the caller tick off all of those events. And I was saying yes, I remember that. Yes. I remember that. Yes. I remember that. But I was I was waiting for the clothes. Okay. And therefore, we believe what I don't know. I think that Robert Mueller has got this thing put together, and I'm waiting keeping my powder dry for whatever outcome. He puts more I've been reminded time. And again when he's announced indictments we didn't see that coming. We didn't know that he had already assembled that case. I I'm convinced that there will be nothing done in a public realm for the next week until the mid term is over. But I think very soon thereafter, whether the president agrees to testify or not is going to bring it to a close, and we will know the answer as to whether to fold there was collusion or conspiracy. As we lawyers say, and whether there was obstruction of Justice on the part of the president. I'm just gonna wait. And see which way it goes, Tom from Sussex, New Jersey Republican line. Good morning, Tom. Yeah. Hi. How you doing? Well, I kind of hope that, you know, need Madonna gets kicked out, but I don't know being from New Jersey and being a Republican here on the western side, New Jersey. Basically, we have no. Have on the eastern side. Literally, we pretty much given up. They did something with the the districting that now we're kind of like in a different district. So even our Republican vote is having a very difficult time. You know, you know, being in our district. It used to be mostly Republican. Not anymore. But the bottom line, Tom. Do you think that Bob Hubin is a Republican can win in this midterm election? Yes. Or no. I think he might be able to. I mean, he came in. I mean, it depends on how many Republicans are weapon estate. It's kind of hard. I've been seeing people from the western part, and you get moving out of the state because he just not been here for us except for higher taxes with nothing. You know, we don't have any the, you know, no, transportation nothing like that. So doesn't pay for a lot of us. That are getting engaged even stay in the state. So. Response. Thank you. Tom. I put good stock in in the cook political report. And if they say, it's it's now too close to call. Then I believe them like the caller, though, I'd be very surprised Christi was a unique phenomena in this modern era. Chris Christie could never have one again for a whole host of reasons. So I'd be I'd be surprised if in the end human can pull it off. This is C span radio programming from Sunday. Issues the people. DC to your neighbor. Raise are helping the city's courteously founder and president of the guardian. Angels curtis. Leila. That was an explosive inner lies is. Curtis in Cosby. Cosby? Style. Youth owed walls Iraq. Well, it was known. Was we stay bagels the children of Israel Bill. And that was without any. Chocolate. Next week. Russia Shawna, Dan Curtis. Tomorrow is the New York statewide primary and after months and months of campaigning for the top slot for the gubernatorial nod at the Democratic Party between we've allies Cuomo Cuomo channel Montiel fried Chow protocol, mocking homo the first and sex in the city starlet, Cynthia Nixon who was chosen by de Blasio to take on his advocates, Sherry, it's all come down to the schmear on the bagel. So doesn't matter was anti semitic charges filed against shanty. It doesn't matter that to bridge the g bridge I'll never call it to. Mario Cuomo bridge was opened to suit the political needs of Cuomo and not to safety needs the commute is it's all come down to a trip. Champion Nixon made is part of a campaign when she stopped in the Upper West side where she resides and decided to go in and order a bagel with the schmear. Thanks. So her order was a cinnamon raisin bagel with the schmear on it, which meant to cream cheese of her choice, the Capers and naturally the most important element though, walk. I was about to say you can't forget the locks, and it's amazing. How it is made so many headlines here it is again as you're saying twenty four hours before the big primary, but yeah, it's the bagel Capers bagel gate. Well, I wanna find out from many listeners because I'm a bagel bender. And I know a lot of them a bagel benders. Although for years, I preferred by ALI'S rallies. Now, it's almost impossible. I love a good Bego. But I like, the everything bagel and the onion bagel and New York definitely has the best many bagel bender aficionados have shed uncouth fishing thean action to choose of all things a cinnamon raisin, bagel. Have the schmear put on with? Cream cheese, the lots and the Capers and Curtis. I am not a bagel expert. But I will tell you when I saw that. It was cinnamon Ray. I was like that's a weird combinations. Let's find out from everybody out there because I've seen a lot of different bagels purchase with a lot of different Shmaysani in which I looked at in my beret spun on my head. But this this break the bagel bender at one eight hundred eight four eight WABC that's one eight hundred eight four eight nine two to two. And then when all of a sudden some of those bar aficionados who need to pay a reverse mortgage to pay for some of the products share. Why bowling Cynthia Nixon about her choice? Chigney Mitsubishi said, hey, she can't wait to eat. It all up. Can't wait. He ate it all up, you know, for the cameras to see it's not like she purchased it. And then said let me back or like some politicians. Do you know, particularly those who don't want to eat cannolis. You don't wanna eat fattening foods because that's generally what happens campaign, you constantly being offered food all these ethnic delegates and you're gonna get fat fat fat fat fat, but it's prime time. Whether it's New York City where the shady New York if you are out there on the campaign trail, guaranteed. There's going to be a photo op with some kind of food that you're going to have to scarf down. And in this case, she had a choice. Remember there was Donald Trump in Times Square when he hosted then vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. You know, what I thought about to Curtis was Bill de Blasio. Remember, he was eating the pizza with a fork and casick member casick also same all we'll cancel was a pig case sink was a Hodge right? He was stuffing his mouth with all kinds of. Talion delicacies up had Belmont avenue. The author avenue section of the Bronx. She ordered too much, but with Trump he had his pizza to the way the Blasio Hannity goodfellas on hylan boulevard instead island with a knife and a fork it was saying Sarah Palin, then from Alaska who knew how to eat pizza the right way. One eight hundred eight four eight WABC let's go to Neo I up in Q calling from Brooklyn welcomed the Kurdish and Rita. Cosby WABC, Neil. I know I know you have to do it all over again, you'd come back as a two I just know that because you know, much about it with the Jews. My two youngest sons. Raised us. But my question is. Yes, I know you're good at it with the bills and all that stuff. Yes. Kenya? Mix the cream cheese and the locks together. I see that mix. Neil. But if you're like a hospital. Religious. Can they do courtesy? I don't actually know the answer. So the Kurdish that's going to be a homework. My homework. Boy, I have to go around all the bagel benders and say is this appropriate. Survey that would be that would be great. I know for the really observing. You don't makes the dairy. That's what I was thinking. I don't think fish feel. So is that the new version is it the gory version? Cynthia. And she's Goi I'm going, so courtesy. Oh my God. Well, here I was at the Rosh Hashanah Rosh Hashanah celebration. I was definitely the holy Goi there. It was like who is not Jewish. But but I felt like I think that a campaign. He's come back to did. You order bagels the right way. One eight hundred four WABC let's go to rob in east meadow. Welcome to credit said Rita Cosby on WABC, Bobby. Hi, bob. Hey, good. Good. Good afternoon. I just want to say one an ice beyond. You gotta go down to the Lower East Side co side. But be careful if you don't have an illegal hostile o'clock, and you're gonna park in front you're gonna get a ticket. You gotta have that hostile to legally. Good good looking out. I'm always on the lookout for a good. Bye. Allie for years. They will always used to sell them out to Seoul this much is bagels. But it always be a been a two for biology. Yeah. You don't see him that much anymore. They're better. They're supposed to be forgive me. Lovers, but they're supposed to be actually a little healthier as sort of the word. You know, bitching, legally at all. They're not gonna give you the they're not gonna give you the gray said a ten minute grace period, those brownies, whether you're you're agenda. No Bialy break. They won't give you a Bialy breaks. Are gubernatorial democratic primary has come down to. Did she committed a faux pas watering, a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese, the Capers and naturally the lots at least appreciate her trying. So and especially coming on the heels of all the antisemitic criticism that she's gotten in the mail. Bagels. That's why I'm saying I think it was smart of her to go, and listen, she's got to Jewish kids. I think she knows the role eight four eight WABC. Let's go to Ben in.

Big show Roseanne will be the guest this oughta. Be interesting she's in New York. Doing a couple of things so she'll be in the. Studio Roseanne will finally speak out at length tonight. On Hannity I think this. Is the beginning. Of the, comeback she's got a talk show she's put together. I mean. But from what I've seen looks great professionally done nice studio everything says you're doing a talk show that she'll, figure out a way to distribute if nobody will distribute it she can. Just do it yourself online or just put it on YouTube so. We'll, see tonight what she's got to. Say about the comeback Frazier Kelsey grammer, wants to come back he wants. To bring Back. Frazier will this work Let me think, history of TV It's, happened before, it never usually works although will and grace, came back, without missing a beat look JR. But they both look the same it looks. Like the old will and grace. Kelsey grammer still looks like? Him, what else come back successfully, well Roseanne obviously the best handful although that ran, into a little speed bump there but I guess it could work there. Would move it. To another city no more Seattle Although Seattle is. Becoming pretty bad you know San Francisco has been totally, destroyed by crazy democratic mayors it's a homeless camp the whole city of San Francisco is now crime Zona warzone. Homeless camp it's starting to happen in Seattle, a lot of people companies everything getting out of Seattle so. Frazier would move to another city he'd have to be a little different now because you're. In a different world now they wouldn't relate to Frazier, he's always, talking about his suit and his new tie, and you'd, have to explain to today's what. A tie is never seen one of these. Or even a suit nobody has. Seen one of these in? Years, a speed in which we're, talking about Facebook stock way down Twitter is going, to have problems under armor is way up under armor is doing huge. You know why You. Can't. It be referred to it's, really a kind of scary? Area where It's disrespectful it's a kind of thing we'd get called in after the show and, yelled at, maybe maybe get suspended for a day that's all I can I one of the things they did. Say, though but they say the guy. Said when, he referred to him? As a turban guy he, said if that offends you don't wear? The turban and maybe I'll remember your name Stupid stoke compounds the problem fairy stupid but when you get? Fired, for being stupid you'll sift, away I I don't know these two but apparently been on a long time and they're very successful on, that New. Jersey state so local state and injury but if you've been doing well for a long time you can't go over one. Stupid thing I mean.
