"Susan Waldman and down in Atlanta is the television voice off the Atlanta Braves. Our friendship carry when we were talking before all this happened. I remember you talking about how Freddie Freeman and Nick Mark a kiss not being around the team is going to be really tough for all these kids, and here they are in their back. And what is their presence mean to this group of Young and I know their stars, but this group of young stars the leadership Leading by example, Nick Markakis is a guy that if if you've seen him play, and I know you guys in New York have a long time. You wonder if the guy has teeth because he's never really smiled back because he's such a pro's pro mark. Take it speaks. People listen, and he played so hard and plays by example, and he picked up his 500 double the other day here hit a walk off homer, his first start back at the re opting in from Cove it the guy's just such an important pieces of the puzzle here, and I have said on the air. I think he will go down whenever he's just playing one of the most Forton Atlanta Braves to play because he died. A long term contract here came home when we were in the midst of our rebuild, and he has been a rock in the middle of this lineup with Freddie Freeman for three or four years, he's such a joy to play such a pro's pro kind of throwback, the way the game's played now in the same truth for Freddie Freeman, Gold Glove caliber first basement. It's tough pitchers anchors the lineup face of the franchise. Er, you know, sort of a younger version of Denmark a kiss, but a more happy go lucky, outgoing, engaging personality, but still when the game's on Blind guy that you really are happy to have your soul. So yes, Your points is we're delighted their back. It wouldn't be the same without him. And obviously the record shows their their impact on this ball club. And I remember when.

"Cameos by listeners that have gotten there is one from Sean Avery. That was funny one from Susan Waldman. So well, listeners do use it. And of course I've used in the past a cz Well on Boomer will be on there soon enough. Phil Simms is on there. Ah, and he can give you a birthday wish or an anniversary wish or whatever you want, So check it out for 111 bucks. Let's go to which is relatively good price for someone like Phil Simms on there. I've paid 500 I paid 300 so 111 for Phil is like a bargain. Even though you know we get nasty voicemails from from him for free. Um, let's go to Steve and Eatontown, New Jersey. What's going on, Steve? Sorry, gentlemen. How you doing? What's up, Steve? All right. So I have Ah Cameo story on will keep briefs that on. Hopefully we'll convince Boomer that it's a great thing to do, and we'll get him to do it. All right. Mandy Moore, who I'm assuming, you know is the actress fingers stars and this is us. Sure, of course, so she actually I noticed was on cameo for a very reasonable price under $100 she was doing it for charity. I knew that my parents are huge fans of not only heard about this show. Till I got her to record one. Knowing that she's into Animal rescue and I run an animal rescue. And she recorded a two minute long cameo. That knot was a two beginning of the pandemic. I should mention than the reason I did this with my parents kept going out. And I wanted to convince them that they needed to stay in. And so she not only convince them to stay in referring to a story about her parents, But she also thanked them for being into animal rescue and she was just great. It was it was very personal is really nice. The money, of course, went to charity and shipped from what I understand. She records all of hers at a certain hour each day, so it's not too much time out of her day. And she raises money for a charity and she got my parents to stay inside because it worked. They stayed in very well and who knows it may have helped save them so You know these these things depending on the prices can help a charity and and do a lot of good too, and make people feel great. There you go. Steve. That's a good ide the whole time that Steve was telling this heartwarming story. I was trying to remember that. The name of that song that Mandy Moore burst on the scene with long before she was an actress guy. Remember, she liked was right after there was that whole rain off female pop singers. It was like Britney Spears, Christina Gilera, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore came like a couple of years after that candy. Or is that just on thinking of that? Because it was candy? Yeah. Could you pull that up that song? I remember this. That what? Every time you're maybe more. I don't think this is Oscar. I don't watch it. I think this song in this video What do you do it, Boomer? Where's your microphone? Yes, we're playing in two different ways. I was just playing it off. My Oh, my. Oh, wow, you did you have that downloaded So there you go some anymore, So I guess I'm next. Yeah. Following the footsteps of many more. I'm trying to think so. Britney Spears obviously was.

"Susan Waldman along with how we were also going to switch gears a little bit we done some hockey talk with a lot of baseball talk and I'm going to switch to the NFL and the NFL must really be moving ahead because every time I've called Kim Jones in the last four days she's been on a zoom call with the NFL people so evidently they're still moving around so great reporter for NFL network and of course right here in the fan our friend a Kim Jones hi Kim it's Susan and how how are you I'm going to talk to both of you although I wish I was listening to both of you call a baseball game tell you that very much I miss your voice isn't just for those business the only down side of the dome is you're on the computer so long and it really actually does start to bother your eyes in a lot of them because you are you don't think you're the only person I know that it's working I mean you call everybody else what are you doing I don't know I'm planting some flowers or something and every time I call you NFL network or the NFL is having a conscience and by the way you wouldn't hurt me this afternoon because the Yankees would have been in Boston and we would obviously playing on a night game I mean there's no question about it so so you're going to live in a house in the afternoon and then tonight yes I will say this about the zoom you know we've all had to alter you know our course of work and and trying to get work done and everything and and by and large you know they've made players coaches available the ism and that sort of thing now some of my calls that I've talked to you about Susan are work related NFL network or with the NFL at large but when you talk about access this offseason that hasn't been what we usually expect but I think they'd at least tried I know they've at least tried to make some players available and and that's that part to appreciate it you know you don't want to just go away for an entire offseason heck you don't go away for a season which were seen as well but you know in that regard him has been very very helpful in making plans available what a concept so they're pretty good at there it is it is it is kind of full speed ahead right they are preparing as best they can for a season but are there any obstacles what so ever facing the players union as such as it is as well as the club owners anywhere near similar to what baseball's going through now well you know I would probably answer that differently except that you added a baseball going through now I mean I guess I'd start with the NFL Hallie and say let's be honest the NFL benefited schedule why from this virus because it didn't have the challenges the other sports dead you know yes Roger Goodell was criticizing me was told to hold off on the draft told off even on free agency to their credit I believe and I believe this at the time they went ahead with that in my opinion they had the best draft they may ever have and have had until this point it was the best it was the absolute best we got to see people on their real couches in their real T. shirts but they wear when they're watching TV and I loved every minute of it so the NFL benefited that way free agency to me would have always been a no brainer it you know you can do all of that obviously virtually you don't need to be in person for any of it and that the vast physical that had to happen you don't could wait and they did and they you know that that has not been a huge issue by any means so I do think the issue with the NFLPA is something that frankly we all not talked about enough in part because we're just not there yet but in terms of full speed ahead Halle I mean teams have been told preseason games will go on as scheduled I have talked to some coaches in particular and I think players probably feel this way but coaches in particular who say we can't bring all of these guys to training camp in late July St here we go fellas were preparing for a season as usual and not expect to have a rash of injuries there some injuries in the best of her of times with that sort of thing B. is in some cases because of just bad luck in some cases perhaps players aren't as prepared as they should be for training camp and and like I said a lot of that bad luck if you pull a hamstring but I I do think there's a chance that we see in this reported recently that they go from four to two preseason game the idea being that you're still in Tampa you're still working but you're not working in that against an opponent atmosphere where perhaps perhaps an injury is more likely so that if something like that how we in terms of like preseason games for the two I don't think would be a big surprise well it would be a shift on and why well there's also you know I'm monetary factor all of that as we now just not that big a deal when we talk about the challenges these other sports are facing you know and I I agree with you with the with the draft I loved it they had a lot of technical problems that baseball worked out when they finally got to their craft I loved it I loved it coming back and seeing Bella checks Houseki sitting on the chair I mean the dog Nike was one of the stars of the draft okay so it'll be awhile when you B. O. B. if you are bill Belichick stock credit for that but he wouldn't yeah I just thought and I thought it was great I said to how we before what I loved about this draft and the NFL draft I hate it when they're all sitting there at home and some guy doesn't get drafted in the scene and range just dries my heart breaks and then he gets drafted whatever but they're home with their families so you don't you don't see that now you've mentioned about injuries and all that thing how are they going to bring all these people in there still is a virus out there so how do you how are they.

"And boy that really close marvelous marvelous drama I am Susan Waldman and tonight we get to celebrate another milestone this'll be obviously September twenty six two thousand and thirteen the final game of Mariano Rivera and every time we do these things I end up with the same emotions that had happened all this time and tonight we're going to talk to a five time all star five time world champion cy young award winner two time MLB strikeout leader and then of course judge icing on the cake the perfect game on July eighteenth nineteen ninety nine obviously now a member of the S. color commentary true that of course is our friend David cone but first let me say hello to my partner of now what would be sixteen years the one and only voice of the New York Yankees hello John sterling well hello Susan is wonderful to be with you again and obviously it's it's wonderful to be with David cone use you know one of the good guy one of the best guys I've met and one of the best pages before I bring him on he and Jack Korry wrote a book called full count it is as good a baseball book as I've ever read and I've only read about a hundred and eighty seven baseball books I've read every word of it it's a full count written by David cone and Jack curry the publishers Grand Central and you will find out so much about baseball that you didn't know if you read the book and with that hello David cone Hey John and Susan thanks for having me on the line it's nice to talk to you guys at least after they fall for change it fast yeah I cannot take reading or watching or listening all about this virus and they've got to get a handle on approach to go back to work but it's it'll be nice to talk about something other than that and then stay safe and wear your mask and and your gloves well David let's kick it off this way you came to the Yankees thank goodness in the middle part of nineteen ninety five and help the Yankees to get into the playoffs for the first time since nineteen eighty one and at that time Mariano was coming up from Columbus I don't know yeah if you were there when the pitch that game against Chicago we've talked about in ninety five when he was a baby for your thoughts about Mariano yeah you know I came right after that first major league start he hadn't pitched so well against the white Sox I believe on that it was a Saturday I can you know that dead dead figures because it we must been on a road trip from Chicago to Minnesota and you joined the team in Minnesota that's what I'm getting at Zach I yeah I saw him pitch that game and I will you know I I you know I thought wow you know what what he made it look easy that day then the course really settled into the open for the rest of the year after I was traded over we just do that he yeah he was just so solid he only threw strikes Mariana never beat himself you know from day one he always know how to take all right after the hitters he was in attack mode and you never mess around if you got Peter got clean but he never viewed himself so that was a thing about Mario that was so special to me you know and to talk about that first year because and Buck Showalter was on with us and I think I told you when I was talking to you he was talking about first seeing Mariana when he was nineteen years old and Gulfport and this is in nineteen ninety and he had seven walks and fifty eight strikeouts in fifty two innings and one earned run and all that and I think that the idea that a nineteen year old doesn't walk anybody and never beats himself was kind of remarkable that series in Seattle box said that they knew what kind of a precious commodity they had do you ever think about that last game and you know if he hadn't been used a lot in the series before how different that could have been if you know if Mariana were Mariano yeah it really was true because you know why the email box you know Seattle that line up was so tough especially in and looking down at the Buckley did know who to turn to you know yet it is far as the bullpen goes it was kind of guessing and fired by the seat of his pants but yeah my everything Mariana should come in dozens of information in that game stayed in a little bit longer and you know instead of the actual project McAllister I think he pitched three innings of relief from that game yeah I remember both of us were really hurting towards the end here are some mad dash to get that far and you know we really both laid off on the line in that last game with both your family left arms after that game C. O. David I'm I made this point to book who then talked about it and boy could you talk about it the thing that I don't know anything about Beijing I can't help but it won't be I think you David cone would be the best pitching coach in the major leagues as someone would hire you as a pitching coach on if you want that but David knows more about pitching and has done it anyway I'm I mentioned a book that the thing that stood out with me they watching Mariano way back then was his his form his mechanics they were perfect I don't assault anyone have better mechanics and I maybe that's why he just didn't want people to go along with that absolutely John Houston another great pitching you know it when you see an extra you know like Fred Astaire used to dance or Baryshnikov danced or somebody that's that graceful not under control that kind of body control that athleticism you know it's pretty really rare I think that's the thing that everybody talks about with Mariano you know there was such a fantastic athlete to be able to have that greater control with that kind of velocity an accountable mansion the way he was able to repeat his delivery over and over again all those years just to me is that just says a lot about how really a supreme athlete he really has Sonora L. M. David when you look at someone like Mariano new of course reinvented yourself a hundred times I mean even when you know you said your arm was hurting and things you do you create things Mariano he for so many years he threw very hard and then and then obviously the car went and he didn't throw as hard every time the people said yeah he's losing his velocity is not going to be the same what is it about someone like Marianao that he used to say he's not afraid to fail and so he would try things and then that Qatar and then it you didn't need all that velocity what is it about him that allowed him to keep doing that it's gonna be more than just a mechanic over and over and over and and repeat it and have a yearly and have the years that he had yeah that's a great point Susan because he really did have to make adjustments even though you know they weren't major adjustments but he did have learned how to throw his cutter to both sides of the plate he did make sense interesting fast balls you know just to keep them honest and give a different look here and there but he was relentless in his approach is the simplicity of that approach and could take over the corners and have that kind of control with that kind of late OpenOffice stretches just was remarkable I answered again I've never you know I've seen pictures that can make the ball both methane which is a good the ball really hard nothing touches with really good control and Mariana on campus all three of those skills better than anybody I ever saw he really did a lot of the the book under the control we're just as good as it is N. as anybody's ever really got it not at this stage there's a there is a way of starting pitcher and a reliever I get it as far as what Mariana was asked to do there was nobody better well let's let's move to nineteen ninety six that was Susan and my favorite year and boy were you involved in that year in nineteen ninety six with the the aneurysm operations nobody ever pitch again and then you come back and visit near no hitter in Oakland but anyway that was the year that Joe Torry came in and soon I discovered what he had it in Mariano John wetland was a closer and Mariana would pitch seven and eight and the Aggies took over first place at may first and they never were headed to got close but they never wedded obviously what up winning the World Series all your thoughts when you saw Mariano as the red during a lot of high fastballs now the pitching the seventh and eighth innings Hey I thought it was remarkable because he was so terrible you know and then there and again you talked about his delivery so graceful and elegant his control but he was so durable honey pitched over a hundred innings that year I think in ninety six a lot of people still think that maybe his most valuable years a Yankee reliever when I was in that role because the pitch more innings impacted many more games really actually I mean obviously when one guy credit for the phase that year the Mariano play you know certainly had an all star caliber year in that role Richard Butler said well over a hundred innings that year that made all the difference in the world for the ninety sixty nine ninety six full crack you know David one of the things I was thinking about as you were just just talking and it takes more to be a closer in to be any kind of a great pitcher which you certainly were it's how you deal with failure as well as success and I've not Mariano never and you do the same thing if you had a bad game you're standing at your locking your talking and Mariano comes out all the time and was there even that that game in ninety seven when he gave up the whole the whole Monticello sandy Alomar he was standing there what kind of person is that that stands up like that and how much to other people learn from what like you did and for Mariano did how they how they carried themselves through failure and success that's a good point values thing that happened to you know nothing nothing well we'll make a player melts more and then in the media are the eyes of the fan base which is which you are not there you know in the bad times as well and Mariana did it very consistent and he understood that and he's always very classy too he always kept his cool the thing about Mariana till yeah we used to joke you know and you know it in his universe it doesn't have a heart beater heart rate her call up and looked like he was totally under control everything you ever get yeah you have to wonder whether he actually sweat broke a sweat in horror or got his heart rate because he made it look so easy for so long a day but I can't wait for you to give me a pitching spaces this it's it's practice for relief pitchers to have a year or two and are great and then fall by the wayside we we've just seen it recently with Cody Allen for example of the Indians I bring that up he was by California in the middle of the year the angels as the R. A..

"The fan it's time for the club support downstairs we go to Susan Waldman okay John first let's start with the manager of the Yankees Joe Girardi somebody asked him if he had a talk with the team after going down all one after let yesterday's game Joe said I didn't say anything before this game it was business as usual these guys know what this is all about I didn't have to say anything he thought it was important for AJ to get through the first inning because he's never been in this situation before it was very important for him it was he was great tonight I don't I'm not sure I've seen him pitch that well in such a setting seven strong innings he had his pitch count down he had a great courage to use me this time of year all you get is great starters I thought Pedro was great also he pitched a great game I can't say I was surprised but I didn't think he would go that long for Mariano Joe said is extremely important to be able to go two innings at this time of year he is fine he threw yes threw about forty pitches but healed with the day off he'll be able to pitch on Saturday I would think but he can but I'll check with him on Saturday he thought the turning point of this game might have been Moline is tipped off he said it's hard to describe his instincts were behind the plate as a former catcher watching Molina is really inspirational to to watch I he said when I caught Mariano he was able to throw two innings back in ninety six so we saved him and set him up this this year so that this time of year in the World Series we could use him to innings as much as as he'll be able to take we'll check with him on Saturday but he should be fine I thought once again AJ was great aggressive with his fastball great curve and it's always starting pitching in all these games AJ said he had the fastball working had a really good curve Malina knew what to to to call I've waited to perform in a game like this for a very long time once I got through that first inning I got rid of whatever butterflies I had but I think it all came off of my fastball which was really working tonight Malina said the same thing Molina said he had the fastball early and then the curve ball and change he was amazing he got more confidence as the game went on at this time of the season you need confidence we asked him about the pick off he said I don't know I just react I saw movement so I threw the ball over there Jeter said that medseries run was so important he's been so clutch all year AJ did what we needed this is what we need to do we needed to tie this season but it's only one game guys we're going to Philadelphia.

"USA dot com in the manager's office before game two of the three game set with Iraqis I'm Susan Waldman with Erin bone and a little different vantage point from you yesterday do you see things differently up in whatever suite your in than sitting in the dugout yes yeah it was I was just actually talking a couple coaches about that you know he you get a better look at yeah I was watching with the TV on and obviously from high above and can I see how the fielder space out see where the outfielders or playing the ball travels with a different kind of way and then once you know we got a good lead in it was it was actually an okay way to watch the game do you kind of go back in your broadcasting mode because you look to because that's like a broadcaster takes a little bit off to the side yeah a little bit but you're right off to the side so was even a different vantage point that I'm used to seein but all in all a good day for for the guys and played really well interesting thing about it Adam on aveeno in detail make you all played great but might talk when there was an extra little fire there and and somebody had said you know you're really wanted the Senate nicely you really want to do well the team that said you couldn't play so for him to have that kind of day he did everything everything out there he really did I mean it's you know you a little glimpse into you know why we're so he got him why we're so interested he's been such a valuable guide defensively for us throughout the year being able to really play high end out feel that whatever were spot we've put a man you know he's he's had the ability to get on base and then last night kind of put it all together swung the bat really well throughout the night he saw his speed on display and obviously the really good defense okay engine aka goes today and sort of building up towards the last couple of months of the season watchin aka really gets good yeah yeah excited that he goes today you know hope hope and obviously continue get some links with just the stretch were in the double header and the amount of guys we've we've had to use but you know hot day out there so keep an eye on him but but know he's capable of going down pitching well do you guys really worry about this kind he this is oppressive heat I know and it and I were buddies young and people are saying come on their young guys they can sit in an air conditioned whatever down there but how dangerous is this yeah I think it's something that you've certainly got to be mindful of and you know I was just out there wouldn't you know where camera mavens doing all these out field and run the bases and stuff like that and it is it's a nap another level hot day today so important that the guys you know as we've talked about stay vigilant which is being ahead of trying to stay hydrated making sure they're taking care of themselves because this is the kind of weather where the the cramps can happen and you know we saw a little bit last night with Jay happen so important that we we do our best to to stay on topic making sure you guys are having their fluids and thank you you bet that was the manager show brought to you by.

"I'm Susan Waldman along with Aaron Boone, and I thought the most interesting thing last night. Masahiro Tanaka is very rarely satisfied. He is really perfectionist. And he told me he was lucky last night. He was not pleased with his splitter, because it worked sometimes not all the time, he was not pleased with the slider, because it worked most of the time, but not all the time he called his defense, great and said he was very lucky. You're smiling is, is he a little heart out himself? I think that is a little harsh. I think it's fair to say he got away with a few mistakes. No question about it. But I thought overall his stuff. Was the best we've seen from the start of the game to the end of the game. Meaning with all three of his his, his fastball, his slider his split all really flash. And, and I thought we played really good behind them defensively. Yeah, he actually went. I asked what he thought, what I thought of the defense in usually he waits for Shingo translated. He said, great, it was great. Yeah. It really was, you know, DJ made a couple really nice plays. Obviously a big strike them out. Throw them out, or, or Gary throw them out and labor had a really good tag thought we did some good things in the outfield. So just just a really solid overall game and and had enough offense to make it stand up k speaking of offense. It just goes right into our segue. Sean Carlos Stanton is here in the lineup. Now how do you decide Sanchez Stanton? Encarnacion. How do you decide who goes where and those three I don't know. I asked a few people and they chimed in. There wasn't a huge this guy. I could've it could easily been jumbled up in that four or five six. Just no new. I wanted those guys in the middle there against the match up tonight and but looking forward to those guys coming up hopefully with with, with some traffic when you look at J happen. He has been, he has been better. He still make some mistakes. Where is he do you think and getting to where he wants to be? I think he's real close. I think he's been throwing the ball. Well now for really the better part of a month, you know, he's, he's gotten in trouble here and there it seems like with that one inning or that handful hitters. You know where he puts a couple on? And then they've been able to hit one out of the park that's kind of really changed his outing. But I think overall he's throwing the ball much better. I think it's coming out much more lively, and I expect them to go out and pitch. Well, okay, thank you. You bet. That was the manager show brought to you by black bear deli. Meats and francs. "Susan Waldman with this final game. With the Boston Red Sox and a little bit about yesterday. Her mom started off really good. This is this is a team. This Red Sox wears you down. Did he get worn down, you think by the team, the way they fall pitches off what they were doing? I think probably a little bit. You know, even when he he rolled through those first few winnings, pretty pretty strong, obviously still tough every that was a battle a grind, and that's, that's a credit to the Red Sox. I actually thought he threw the ball well kind of dig into his outing, a little more even. When he threw the ball well and, and commanded his pitches for the most part got a number of strikeouts. But, but, you know, I think they definitely warm down a little bit one of the things that I noticed about him and yesterday in the in the press conference when he was talking, he still seems very confident. That's two. Two starts in a row where he hasn't been overwhelming. He still seems very different than him you see this year. Maybe maybe it's grown, but I think if you really, you know, dive into the last couple outings, he's throwing the ball really well for the most part, and he's continued to be able to execute and throw his three pitches when he wants. And when you have three pitches that you can throw whenever you want, and they're plus pitches. Tends to give you confidence. So even though he's had some hiccups here. The last couple of times, I still feel like he's in a really good place and. You know, at the end of the day, we got another one last night. And KC Sobat the off the deal. He's back today. I'd ask you what she is what to expect with CeCe. Put you can't really tell with him because he will just go out and give you everything. He's got exactly. You know obviously only missing one turn in the rotation. So he should be built up fine. You know, obviously, we'll watch them closely how he's responding each and every inning physically, and hopefully you can go out and finish this, this home, stand off on a good note, and even in, even if he can't the way you rolled out as you said the back end of that bullpen, you've got your long guys still still sitting there. Yeah. So we got sess and David Hale, they're fully rested. And so if we needed significant endings down there, we've got with those guys when you look at what Gary Sanchez has has done. I had said to him joking the other day of you noticed that. Nobody's talking about your catching it evolved. He started laughing when you look at him could it be simple? Is that he really wasn't healthy last year and tried to? Protect the groin and had a shoulder thing. And that was part of it. I think that was certainly part of it. But again, I think I go back to getting off to the kind of start he got off to where it was slow, but I felt like he was actually hitting the ball and playing pretty well. And as a young player, you know, then we forget, sometimes we're dealing with a young star player that the game's hard, and especially when you're at such a demanding position at, at catcher, you know, it's hard to make a judgment sometimes on the fly, I think going through those kind of trials, especially as a talented player usually, you're better off. And you can learn from those things moving for we believe Gary s. Okay. All right. Thank you. That was the manager show brought to you by black bear deli. "Let's go down on the field now to Susan Waldman. Okay. John my star the game here. And I was just gonna talk about what the great day you had an at your mom's birthday, you telling you that he hit a home run for and get all those hit. I was just glad to be in the lineup and trying to go out there and just give her another birthday present for the couple hits. Okay. Happy birthday Kim, many more now for you to be able to contribute like this. This has got to be a good day. Day is also tempered a little bit with the the Aaron judge injury. What do you guys think when a guy who was the face of this franchise, really your leader talks with you all the time? What does that feel like when you see that? When you never want to go down. And you know, obviously, we don't know the severity of anything yet. It's you know to be determined. But you know, you just hope that it's nothing too serious. And then he's able to get back out there because it's such a big partner clubhouse, and you know, he's such a good person to. So you never want to see things happen anybody when you look at this game. And to not get a bounce back thing how much easier is it for your offense. When you're going out there putting up zero's all the time. It's great. You know, it's one of those things where it's fun to stand behind him, and it's fun to watch. So obviously whenever you're on the same side of it. It's a good time. And you know, those guys go out there, and they compete, and they do what they do and a great game by Tanaka and everybody else your like the gristle veteran. Now, you're seeing talk that down coming into his own and inner shell comes up. You're the new guy anymore. You could turn out to be the veteran out there. I would say veteran, but. You know, I'm just had much happening now that's not going to be here tomorrow. Yeah. You know, we got a lot of young guys in the team. And you know, obviously, it's going to it's not been the way we probably wanted to go this year. And you know, like, you said next guy up, and we gotta continue contribute. The good way. "I'm Susan Waldman along with. Aaron Boone for those of you who didn't hear post game last night Arens gonna tell us again his first meeting with at the bat with CCC baths, because I think a lot of people don't stay up that late to hear what happened the first time you face. She's about the. Yeah. So a face this young young future star. Plan for the reds. He was obviously with Cleveland Indians battle of Ohio big series filled stadium center field, and he proceeded to strike me out three times on my third time swinging at strike three I fell down and said, I don't like this guy very much. So you brought this up at the press covers last night. So when you're watching this CC, savannah thea who really is almost become an has become an icon in this business, particularly in this city. What are you feeling like as you're watching him go through that game without his best stuff and still throw the game that he did that? He's still a really good pitcher and has weapons take to get you out. And I think it all goes back to I always say this. But we don't appreciate what a great athlete. He is the ability to repeat is delivery ability to make pitches. The ability to use both sides of the plate changing speeds. He's still very much mastered his craft when you look at a team like the royals what? It is the difficulty in playing a team like them. They don't just have one or two guys that run the entire team actually runs. Well, I mean, that's how they've built it out to. And so that's obviously a challenge in something that you've got to try and manage as best. She can do I feel like some of their young players are coming into their own authencity. So, you know, especially today against righty where they're able to make some match righties lefties some switch hitters in there. These are guys you've got to execute or they can make some things happen. And you talk about execution and the couple mistakes. There was some great defensive plays. There are also some mistakes there those usually physical mistakes or does that happen because the other team is doing something you try and make make a play too quickly. Well, you know, the the play it. I it's always a little challenge with was CC on the mound. You know, because the first baseman got added responsibilities just because we try and protect CC as much as we can out there with the knee. And then you know, the labor makes some really good plays out there. But that last one I felt was just him getting a little lax with his feet and something that, you know, he needs to be more vigilant of completing that play because you know, plays like that add up, and they they can change how you work your way through a game. And pretty good news on Gary Sanchez who should expect to see soon. Yeah. No minor league games tomorrow. So we can't get them into a game. But he'll he'll play in a rehab game. Not exactly sure where yet on Monday. And if all goes well there he'll fly meet the team in in Anaheim on Tuesday. And and hopefully be an active player for us Wednesday. Okay. "I'm Susan Waldman along with Aaron Boone so much to talk about about last night. First and foremost James Paxton, who I don't know. I anyone would be surprised, you know, every time somebody doesn't start off well here, and I can't picture. I guess he can. Yeah. I felt like he was he was closest first few go arounds. But to see him come out last night. You know, certainly coming out of an off day where we really could've used a strong start. And he he looked every part the ace, you know, it was dominant stuff. It was filling up the strike zone from from jump street. He was really goodness lanes. You could just see the confidence building as the game unfolded and got us off to a great start coming out of the off day had said that he had worked on something mechanically. Whereas body is all in line now. So that when he said he was a little bit off. And he thought he was throwing his heart as he could and need look up, and it's Ninety-three. And when you're all is at that simple that if you're all in in connected. It comes out ninety seven ninety eight. Yeah. I mean, you know, the the way I put a lot of time as these guys are the race cars, you know, and and there's subtle berry subtle things that can happen that, you know, get you a little out of tilt or whatever. But there's no question he was thinking up last night, and you could tell from the get-go that he was confident that it was coming out properly. And then and then the other thing I loved about it was just the pace at which he worked. I mean. It was get the ball. Here we go get the side from row and and go execute it's kind of hard to get my talk meant to talk about himself about how excited you must've. We'll smile one of these days. But it's going to be a great moment for a young man who also wants to fit in here because he knows people tried to get him any wants to show everybody that he belongs. Yeah. Obviously, there's you know, there's real opportunity right now for them. And you know last night, I was not the best matchup, obviously left deface in sale. But I thought he had really competitive at bats against them. Even even the strikeout he had to the three to count. Then he hits the double though, I thought it was more of a triple down the right field line. But really good to see him have a big offense of contribution to us. And because we need them. And he's he's he's a guy that could potentially really help us here. And now J who also wants to get on that roll too. So cannot be kind of contagious CC Tanaka and Paxton and hats making jokes about himself having to fit in there. But is how big is that for him to get going tonight? Well, sure hope can be contagious again as as I've kind of maintained all along and even in spring training. I feel like stuff wise he's there and very close. I feel like it's coming out the right way for him. It's about really own in the lanes that he pitches in obviously against a lot of the right handed hitters that he'll face tonight for Boston. The ability to throw the ball where he wants to is kind of been his calling card throughout his career. Now, even though he's not overpower when he locates where it is his fastball really place. You know, he's got a mix in some of the secondary stuff to keep them honest. But he's gotta find those good lanes. And if he does the results will follow for Jay hat. Okay. Aren't thank you. You bet that was.

"I am Susan Waldman along with Aaron Boone. Now last night Masahiro Tanaka said I was talking from this after afternoon and the sixth inning. It looked to me when he came off the mound. He punched his fist in the air, and he yelled, and usually when somebody does that it's like it's exaltation, but it's hard, and it was tough for him that combined combined with the fourth inning where really struggled also to get out to that. Make you think that? Maybe he was done. Yeah. It was part of it. I think we're all kinda convicted on it from Larry. And I had like Masa new, you know, he kinda emptied the tank there, even though you know, sometimes we look at the pitch number so much. But it's it's sometimes it's it can be easy earlier just from the work and the stress and everything, you know, Gary was kinda like, that's that's probably too. So we were convicted on that was the right time. And it was another, you know, really great outing for Masa. It's good to see him. Throwing the ball. The way is just mentioned pitch count and people get so hung up on pitch count. But the lineup of the Houston Astros is not exactly going through a little league team. So it's different. It's a different kind of seventy eight pitches. Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean in varies all the time. You know, I mean, especially once stars get built up and and they're able to go over one hundred pitches. Sometimes you can let them go pass that it's not necessarily about that. But just how the workload is how their stuff's looking what kind of. Innings. They've had leading up to their last one where they are in the batting order all those things kind of factor in time time after time. Do you have someone in back of the wise ago today is that how you set things up? You thought about yesterday? You gotta think about today yesterday. Well, we should be pretty loaded up today. You know, low will go give us whatever he can obviously Sesa through two innings two days ago. So we probably won't have him for his normal. Sixty seventy eighty pitches what she can normally go, but we should have available for a couple of innings if we needed and he could be a factor, especially against some of those right handed hitters, especially in the middle innings. And what do you look for from Garrett Cole, obviously, he's one of the best pitchers in the game. And he's he's on to another level here. He he's tough. You know, you come in here, you're facing Burland or your face and coal. You know, you've got to be at your best. I think guys, obviously, we've started swing the bats a lot better obviously swinging it well in Baltimore. And I thought last night against ver Lander. I thought up and down we had some really good at bats. We got him out of there with the lead where probably a one big hit from from really having an explosive night against them. But you know, guys will dive in and know what they're looking for. And and it's about developing a plan. And when when a pitcher of his caliber makes a mistake you've got to be able to capitalize and thank you. That was the.

Beats them. Hey, what do you say? You knew I was going back. Then you often Atta boy don't ask me. Why I went there? I never know how I'm going to show, and then I just open mic opens. And somebody's got to say something Paul Rosenberg on the other side of the glass along with the great and powerful beat his kids all on the sugar high from last night's trip to. So they'll be coming down sometime this afternoon, which will be good maybe tired enough for night when he gets home that he will not be inundated with requests as dad's of young children. Are we'll take twelve fifty five. That's one of the great and powerful. Susan. I thank you. We'll take over along with Susan Waldman. And you'll hear Yankee baseball this afternoon. Jonathan will Loisy will be the starting pitcher today. And then I believe Paxton goes tomorrow and Tanaka Tuesday. So if you're into the pitching thing and want to see how guys look early good for you. Rosenberg was telling me before the thing that he thinks the the dullest thing you can possibly do is pay attention to the combine. And I was telling him this February preseason baseball's kinda close. To to just being sort of something to pass the time with but not being overly important. So. Next had some questions they have both. Both teams have have issues with playing time who will play in who won't play because it's going to be pretty close between guys. So a lot of your criticism of the manager. This year will be regarding. How they use their assets that that will be where they will get in trouble. And where you will be either pleased. They're disappointed depending on the results. So that'll be something to watch nothing. They can control. Now, all you want. Now is health. That's all you want. You want health? Your players are good enough. And there are a lot of bad teams. And that's where the optimism toward the Yankees. And Mets for that matter rest, they rest with the fact that there's a lot of bad teams, not good for baseball. But good if you're talented talented and the Mets have to prove that they are. But they certainly are talented was starting pitching they've improved their bullpen which was a critical and their everyday lineup. Still lacks a little pop perhaps. But we'll see if it's good enough to get by a lot of that will depend on just how healthy their pitchers are. So baseball's here it's going. We're excited. It's nice to have it back. And it's nice to be ready. One thing that I. I think is worth bringing up today. Well, let me get the zuccarello. Look, I know you wanted more back. We knew there was a good opportunity that he was going to be gone. He won't be the last ranger traded before tomorrow's deadline. We expect the islanders to try to go get somebody as well. Try to give up picks rather than players. They don't want to mess with their chemistry. I told you yesterday stop panicking about the islanders that a nice win last night. Four nothing went in Vancouver. So they went one one and one on that swing. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. And the islanders are what you thought they were a pretty good pretty competitive team that needs a little more scoring and needs to be more proficient on the power play. So we'll watch and see if they can make a deal that doesn't mess with their chemistry and at the same time makes them better. And that is the challenge for Lula Morello in the next twenty seven hours to find that combination and for the Rangers. Obviously, they're looking down the road. It's difficult the salary cap in the NHL is muddied to water for these guys have got to be careful, but. They need a good plan. Right. I mean, they are putting the pieces together like the jets like the giants on defense. They're putting the like the nets to some degree..
