So I think you know the government's kind of got to step up and help businesses out so that they don't go under and what may be key in getting those hopes, dreams and plans back on track. Most importantly, we need to pass a coronavirus relief package. I've been hearing for months from Hoosiers about the importance of getting this done. "That was a close one that her and Christina Hale. That's a very important race for the Republicans. It helps them to they have. Also, they didn't capture majority in the U. S House of representatives, but they have cut into the lead fairly significantly for the Democrats between seats. 7 to 13 is the estimate that I heard So I'm gonna just say something around 10. Maybe, but that's it. And that's not a pickup for the Republicans there because Susan Brooks is a Republican, but that's AKI Hold for the Republicans, and that's not just a keyhole Republicans. Christina Hale is a very, very formidable Indiana Democratic candidate and Soto beat her means that you must have run a very, very good campaign. And we're touching on one of the reasons why ultimately I think that Donald Trump has Legitimately lost the election and why the results clearly show a repudiation on some of the behaviour that we all saw on display during the administration because it can't be possibly be a rigged corrupt election in which Mitch McConnell retains his see. Republicans likely retain control of the Senate, even by a close majority. Damn. Republicans make gains in the house and retain their governorship. So people voted for the Republican senators. They voted for the Republican House members. They voted for their Republican governors. But they either didn't vote or cross ballots on did not support Donald Trump. And that is ultimately on no one else. But Donald Trump. That's a That's a great point and something to support that, too. It's looking like Republicans in general are going to hold state legislatures, which is key for the census. You're coming up now. You're in the redrawing of district lines for the U. What you're saying, you know, it's a muddied election. And to call it a big fraud probably not know more than the 2016 election. And I refuse to lower myself into a reduction of the Democratic argument that Russia collusion stole the election from Hillary Clinton and no, no Donald Trump legitimately lost. It's disappointing. That might be here this afternoon for us right now. It is seventy degrees in the American standard. Cooling weather center. The time is six sixteen. Susan Brooks is not running for reelection. And you literally could have not over the entirety of the Republican party. What with a feather Tony cats, ninety three WIBC? Sure they may have been someone out there, who knew. But nobody absolutely positively nobody. Expected it at all. Susan Brooks fifth district. Of Indiana not running for reelection me. Tony cats ninety three WIBC created an unbelievable opening Democrats actually thought that this was a district that is winnable. That is flippable. I think the Dietrich will see or one of the others said, hey, we can we can go after this, while Susan Brooks, certainly won reelection in twenty eighteen it was by her. Smallest margin that doesn't mean that the that the district is quote unquote, flippable, it might have been that Susan Brooks. And her style might have been beatable though. There are two different things. They're both could apply only one could apply. I think it takes a little bit of investigation, but they had targeted this now they see this as opportunity, they're going to wish she had done this before twenty eighteen twenty twenty presidential election, gubernatorial election, you're going to have turn out all over the place. It's going to play very, very well. For the Republicans, unless p Buddha judges the nominee, then you better believe that's a dogfight and anytime you don't have the income, then it's of course, a dogfight, of course, it's going to be tougher now as for who could be replacing. Susan brooks. I will tell you. I, I, I heard the news on Friday made a text and started asking okay who, who do we think is on there? And I've got a shortlist, and I said, then the other day got a bit of a longer list. I said, okay. I see a name some people see two names, very possible. I have absolutely no idea. What's going to come? What I do think is going to happen. Is that if you live in the fifth district, right? So we're, we're talking about parts of Indianapolis. We're talking about Hamilton county, Carmel and heading north. If you live in those places you're about to see so much political advertising. Your head is going to explode. Because anybody who is anybody anywhere at anytime, whoever thought once about maybe just maybe they could be a member of congress. They're running their your mother is going to run for congress in the fifth district. It's going to be out of control. Everyone's finally my shot. So now you gotta ask yourself how many of them are willing to say the following words Donald Trump is perfect, and I love him. I wish I could be the inside spoon. How many how many are going to go down that road? I didn't say that was the winner among only ask a question as to how many of them are going to go down that road. I have a I have a very you know, this is my district. I'm paying very close. Attention, by the way, you've got parts of Marion county. You've got the whole of, of Hamilton county in there. You're up through Tipton over to Madison. I think part part of Hancock county in there, too. And then grant county as well. So you're, you're above and to the east of Muncie in that regard. It's, it's a very interesting mix of people is a tremendous amount of, of opportunity. And everybody's going to run. "More on the shutdown now from Indiana, Republican congresswoman Susan Brooks as we entered day eighteen Susan your take at this point. I'm certainly hopeful that the negotiations that we have that went on this past weekend between vice president Pence and a number of crop. Congressional aides are going to prove fruitful I want government to certainly reopen. However, the crisis at the border is what this fight is about. And I do believe we do have an unprecedented crisis happening at the border. It's my understanding that custom border protection and d h s have said that over sixty thousand people have come to the border in the last three months. Many of which are coming across the illegally. And these numbers are just something. We haven't seen in. Unfortunately, what's different about. This is this this past year forty percent of all of those coming to the border. What are referred to family units or unaccompanied children? And you think about the massive number of unaccompanied children being brought by smugglers, but then being released at the border near the border. This is a huge problem for our country. And so something that we do need to resolve to cackle, and it's certainly part of this funding. Huge part of it. So the president wants five billion the Senate approved one point six how come someone doesn't say. You know, what halfway is three point three sign here. Let's call it a day. Happy new year. I'm not sure that we that those kind of discussions haven't been taking place, and you know, I'm hopeful that with the justifications like I said that the Democrats have recently asked for that. They are getting a far better understanding of what's happening at the border. And that we are somewhere. I think the president's number was at five point six billion to one point three we are somewhere toward getting more border security, which includes technology people, and and barriers but the flexibility to allow the administration to figure out where all of this things should be deployed. We need a combination of all of those speaking with Indiana, Republican congresswoman Susan Brooks. We're talking about the partial government shutdown President Trump throwing out that possibly he would declare a national emergency to grab the funding you support that. Well, I certainly would take a look at it. It would be incredibly unfortunate. If we could not find a way forward on this funding package at if we could not get a package put together. But I do think what is happening particularly with the thousands upon thousands of unaccompanied children presenting at the border. This is a crisis. Like, we not seen. We've had children coming to our borders in pretty large numbers since about two thousand fourteen but those numbers I believe have even gotten higher in the number of family units. The number of people coming with children and making that very dangerous trek come forward. So I do think that this is a much greater crisis than we've seen in the past order. And so if the president deems that a national emergency, I guess, I would support that. What about the idea that this is really just kind of treating the symptom? Right. Not the overall cause of I guess much needed immigration reform. Well. And I would even love and would support seeing some resolution to some of the other problems at a meeting that I participated in with the president I made a recommendation that we put DACA on the table, and that we begin chipping away at some of these really significant issues facing our country's very broken immigration system. We have to order security, but I think we can find a path forward or for the DACA young people. I think we know we have workforce shortages in this country. But we've got to find a legal way to do this. And we have to find, you know, legal path forward for people to come into this country, the legal way, you think this shutdown could go two weeks more. I certainly hope not weeks more. I think this next week. Is going to be very critical and. I'm hopeful that in this next week we return to DC on Tuesday. Yeah. I'm certainly hopeful. At those discussions continue in that. Everyone is really negotiating. And trying to get a resolution which yes may involve a compromise. And I would ask everybody to consider it that the I think the American people want the American people want us to come together and find solutions, but they very much want order security, but they also want us to open the government and the where we're going to do that is probably through some compromise that it has to involve some border security funding, flexible border security funding that will include some barrier funding along our southern border. "More on the shutdown now from Indiana, Republican congresswoman Susan Brooks as we entered day eighteen Susan your take at this point. Certainly hopeful that the negotiations that went on this past weekend between vice president Pence and a number of pop. Congressional aides are going to prove fruitful I want government to certainly reopen. However, the crisis at the border is what this fight is about. And I do believe we do have an unprecedented crisis happening at the border. It's my understanding that custom border protection and DHS have said that over sixty thousand people have come to the border in the last three months. Many of which are coming across illegally. And these numbers are just something. We haven't seen in. Unfortunately, what's different about. This is this this past year forty percent of all of those coming to the border or what are referred to family units or unaccompanied children. And you think about the massive number of unaccompanied children being got by smugglers, but then being released at the border near the border. This is a huge problem for our country. And so something that we do need to resolve to tackle. And it's certainly part of this funding fight huge part of it. So the president wants five billion the Senate approved one point six how come it doesn't say? You know, what halfway is three point three signed here. Let's call it a day happy new year. Well, you know, I'm not sure that we those kind of discussions haven't been taking place. And you know, I'm hopeful that with the justification like I said that the Democrats have recently asked for that. They are getting. Far better understanding of what's happening at the border. And that we are somewhere. I think the president's number was at five point six billion to one point three we are somewhere toward getting more border security, which includes technology people, and and barriers but the flexibility to allow the administration to figure out where all of those things should be deployed. We need a combination of all of those speaking with Indiana, Republican congresswoman Susan Brooks. We're talking about the partial government shutdown President Trump throwing out that possibly he would declare national -mergency to grab the funding you support that. Well, I certainly would take a look at it. It would be incredibly unfortunate. If we could not find a way forward on this funding package that we could not get a package put together. But I do think what is happening particularly with the thousands upon thousands of unaccompanied children presenting at the border. This is a crisis like we've not seen. We've had children coming to our borders in pretty large numbers since about twenty fourteen. But those numbers I believe are have even gotten higher in the number of family units. The number of people coming with children and making that very dangerous trek has come forward. So I do think that this is a much greater crisis than we've seen in the past order. And so if the president deems that a national emergency, I guess, I would support that. What about the idea that this is really just kind of treating the symptom? Right. Not the overall cause of I guess much needed immigration reform. Well. And I would even love and would support seeing some resolution to some of the other problems. Yeah. "Thought that was a good example of how are women. Work across the aisle together in congress. But they also plenty of examples of how they work together on issues. Want wanna women I interview with the Republican co-chair women's caucus? No, ask congress. You talked about working across Republican women Susan Brooks in Indiana, and she gave example of working with the California Democrat to try to make sure the nation's ready to respond to bio tax or does he that breaks working with a democrat from Florida about the legislation the pass last congress to protect young, Alex and sexual abuse. And then another good example of how they work together is Davis, California has led for a number of years. A bipartisan group of women to visit the troops in Afghanistan for mother's day. And that's a an event that particular female angle to it. But just the act of of Jimmy net. Lease the building a relationship on trip. Essentially is there less ego involved when it comes to women versus men. Well, that's what the women say. So in this survey of women that was done by the center for women in politics at Rutgers when they interviewed women. Hundred fourteen congress, a majority of them said that they think that there is the women in in congress are more less focused on getting credit for things on the ego trappings of the job and more focused on just trying to get things done. Thanks, Maureen Maureen groppy Washington correspondent at USA today..
