"The streets, thoroughfares, entrances and exits and transit centers all across the state of California. This is an unprecedented effort to acknowledge what all of us recognize as we drive around this state, it's too damn dirty time to clean up the state trying to be a little bit more accountable. Time to use our tax dollars a little bit more appropriately. Oh, really? Did you finally wake up and smell the feces and the urine? Of course not. Of course, This has been happening for years in San Francisco for more than a decade. Filth, squalor, even communicable diseases and as you know, from 2019. The Reform California committee, We released a report showing that there's a rat epidemic. In California cities a massive increase in rodents that we identified during that year. From homelessness and just utter filth. Newsom is not going to tell the media or you that the $1.1 billion largely comes from. Are you ready for it? Ready? Gas tax funding. Oh, that's right. Oh, let it sting, not a pothole, not a new lane to deal with gridlock now. He is tapping gas tax funding as part of his effort to quote clean up the state. He's not changing laws relating to coddling the homeless. He's not stopping the needle exchange program that has left used hypothermic and contaminated needles and parks and playgrounds or on streets and sidewalks. No, he's not changing any of that. That's driven the filth, the real filth in our Community. Instead. What he's saying is, I'm gonna take more Caltrans money and move it from actual infrastructure and put it into maintenance Money's here in San Diego. We reported in 2018 as part of our campaign to stop the cash tax. At that. And during that year, 30% of the Caltrans maintenance money for San Diego County went for you ready for it. Dealing with trash. Because of homeless encampments along the freeways 30% of the maintenance budget. Recently we had a report that the number has doubled. To now, 60% Doubling of homeless encampments in just the last two years in San Diego, along our freeways leading to you guessed it, filth, trash and other garbage and debris. So now we're going to use gas tax money. To try to clean up the highways. He didn't say anything about the sidewalks or the inner cities. For the canyons or all the other places where we have seen filth in this state. 1.1 billion. Now, he says, golly, This place is a pig stock. Really governor. It's taking you that long to acknowledge the fact that you've been presiding Over a filthy state and that you let it get this bad. Remember? Our very own. Kevin Faulconer can't say a lot on this topic. Have you seen San Diego? Under his quote unquote stewardship. He allowed San Diego to fall to the worst condition we've seen. With hepatitis a outbreaks amongst homeless people living in the streets. And by the way that report about a doubling of homeless related filth and trash along the highways. That happened under Kevin Faulkner's watch. He did nothing. Try to deal with it. But now he's out there. Tweeting saying. That's right. Gavin Newsom, clean up our state. I can do it now, Kevin, you're not the good alternative. You're not a stark contrast You're kind of like a mini Do something. Time for fresh points of view. Yesterday. We brought you an exciting development. We have assembly member Kevin Kiley. Announcing that he is running for California governor. I've been expecting Kevin to get into this race. I'm very pleased that he is. He's a state Assembly member from Northern California. But let me tell you, As I said yesterday, he's a fighter. He's also a true conservative on the issues. He fights for the little guy. He really has a great voting record. That being said, I'm not endorsing in this campaign at this point. I want to see more, uh, of the candidates jump in. I want to see what candidates we have to choose from. But I told you from the get go that more candidates would get in this race. I told you that better candidates will get into this race. It's not to say that some of these other candidates who have been in for the past several months whether it's Caitlyn, Jenner or Douglas C. Or John Cox could suddenly come out of the gate and razzle dazzle us. I'm just saying that those three haven't really caught fire. They haven't impressed us. They're far better than Faulkner. But I think people want to see candidates that we can be absolutely proud of. And that are going to give a real fight. In a real contrast and be good communicators to Basically be a contrast with Gavin Newsom and the very big media platform he has in this state. Coming up. One of those candidates may very well be a radio host. No, not yours truly. But Larry out, he'll join us on the device report. "Public transportation to reducing street parking sandbag is working on a plan for the future Sand X, calling Clemmensen on the agency's ideas for creating a region where we can live work and play. While we look at how our local streets and roads are used, that's probably one of the biggest public investments we have in the entire region. So how about make great use of that? And I think what we learned through covid, um, how much people enjoy being outside and being able to dine outside and as we are working at sand, egged on a brand new transportation vision. It's really about trying to provide alternatives to transportation, so we don't all have to drive everywhere. We create great environments for us to walk and bike and really invest in a transit system that takes people where they want to go. Are we a little too early to be doing that to eliminate parking or is San Diego set up for that? Because we're a big space. I mean, it takes a lot of distance to get from one side to the other. Some things we're looking at. How do we take better damage even of what's happening on our freeway system to, um, allow, uh more high speed, you know, occupancy vehicles and how do we provide a truly connected transit? Service. And as we start to do that, when we have real true alternatives for the people of this region's get around, that's when you can start eliminating the cars right now. Most of us rely on driving. Absolutely. So We're at this point of transformation. And I think the big game changer we have is Technology and, um, as more and more people are comfortable taking advantage of, you know, ride hailing that just starts to get us to a place. We also have to make sure is a region that we're providing options that are affordable for everyone. And that's where sandbag is. We have a regional plan that's out for public review. That really lays out a whole new strategy for how we can get around the region. We've got a number of public workshops that are also scheduled, where folks can get more information about what specifically what we're envisioning and say, North County Coastal or even in the incorporated areas, South County East County were really spread out. So we are focusing some of our workshops really around specific areas in the region so folks can get a sense of what are we thinking about really in your communities? What are some of the things you guys are thinking about? Because in my head, I think New York City subway system I get on it. I can take it somewhere, and I'm a block of a block away to walk wherever I need to go. Right now. I have to get on a trolley or trained and I get on a bus to maybe another bus. Then finally call uber to finally to end up where I'm at. And I'm two hours later. And Yeah, So what? What is the final thought of this? What we're talking about is what we call a next generation rapid bus system, And this is really a rich network. Buses that run on our freeways. They're separated from the rest of traffic, so that's the first step. We're looking further out Absolutely like what you're saying a subway system in the San Diego region to connect the most dense populations to the densest employment centers and you nailed it head on Travis When you said, we're really spread out, our biggest employment center is up near UCSD in the Surrender Valley area. So that's a great opportunity for us to connect from the border and and national city. Chula Vista City Heights North Park up into Surrender Valley. And then connecting that further up to Oceanside. That is a place it really makes sense for high speed transit. Also having a connection that goes right to our airport. I think all of us have asked anybody who's lived here more than 10 years wonders. Why don't we have a high speed transit connection to the airport? Right? Probably go to the airport, so really high speed transit works when we can we connect with the densest parts of our region to the places that people everybody is going to really starting to make those kinds of connections. That provide true travel options to driving alone. That's what this plan is about. So then we can get cars, more cars off the road and open up so many spaces for people to enjoy. And the other thing you brought up. Travis was you take the bus to the trolley to another bus. The big game changer here is what we refer to as flexible fleets. So these are the sharing of vehicles that help you close that last mile. So maybe you live half a mile from a trolley stop. Well, by the time you get your car and drive trolley stop, you might as well drive to your final destination, right? So if you can call a flexible fleet that would take you to that transit station, take you to your destination and maybe you can walk through your destination or you get another flexible fleet on the other end. Once there's a planet's onto the biggest challenge funding Travis Dale Kogo news Go.
