A highlight from Bitcoin Pops As Uptober Returns

"Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, Bitcoin, and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Monday, October 2nd, and today we are talking up -tober. Before we get into that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review, or if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find the link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Well, friends, today we are doing our normal slate of news, but we are couching it in a slightly different framing, which is, of course, up -tober. Now, to understand what I'm referring to, let's look at a tweet from StackHodler who writes, Welcome to up -tober. 8 out of the previous 10 Octobers were positive for Bitcoin. Average gain, plus 22%. Looming bullish catalysts. ETF approval leading to Bitcoin marketing push by BlackRock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, etc. Bond markets forcing central bank intervention. Awareness of US debt spiral spreading. Search for a hard asset alternative to bonds. Overpriced equities in real estate still priced for 3 % mortgage rates. Looming halving in early 2024. The weak hands have been brutally shaken out. If you held through the bear market, your patience has been tested. Bitcoin's volatility is designed to scare off everyone who doesn't understand the asset. But in the end, Bitcoin always rewards the patient long -term thinkers. StackSats enjoy fall. So today what we're going to do is look at the news of the last couple days, but in this framework of October. And sure enough, October got off to a hot start on Sunday with Bitcoin, Ethereum and numerous alts pumping hard on Sunday night. Bitcoin surged by 3 % in just 15 minutes, while Ethereum gained 4 .7 % across the same timeframe. Now part of October's history with Bitcoin can probably be explained by how dismal September tends to be. Over the past 10 years, for example, September has seen an average loss of 5 .6 % for Bitcoin. Although this time around, September was actually slightly positive with a 3 .9 % gain. That could reduce the tailwind of mean reversion for crypto markets, which would leave any bullish momentum reliant on a strong narrative push. Now when it comes to bullish narrative, of course the last week has been all about Ethereum and the imminent launch of new exchange -listed products. Nine of those products, specifically Ethereum Futures ETFs, were slated to begin trading this morning. Competing products from asset managers including VanEck, Bitwise, ProShares and Valkyrie battled it out for a share of the first -day inflows. Giving a preview of the day, Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balcones tweeted, All right, we got nine funds ready to go in the Ether's Futures ETFs derby which begins 9 .30 a .m. Monday. This is totally unprecedented to have so many ETFs doing the same thing launching the same day. Going to be a fascinating experiment and great foreshadowing an undercard to the spot Bitcoin ETF race. I'm setting the over -under for total AUM for all of them at the end of the week at 200 million. Logic being that Bitcoin Futures did 1 billion and ETH funds globally have 20 % of the assets under management of Bitcoin funds. Also, I think issuers will tap their client list to get as much volume and flow as they can get early. Now, at the time of recording, it was a little lackluster. Again, Eric Balcones tweets, Pretty meh volume for the Ether Futures ETFs as a group. A little under 2 million. About normal for a new ETF, but versus BITO, which did 400 million in first 15 minutes, it is low. Tight race between VanEck and ProShares and the single ETH lane. Now, going into a little bit more about some of the specific products that launched. One of the Ethereum ETFs that began trading was a strategy change from Valkyrie. The asset manager had been granted approval to convert its existing Bitcoin Futures ETF into a mixed Bitcoin and Ethereum fund. The ETF, which trades under the ticker BTF, had struggled since its 2021 launch, gathering just 25 million in assets under management. As a Bitcoin -only fund, the Valkyrie product had launched several days after the offering from ProShares. That gave ProShares a dominant first mover advantage, allowing it to gather a near monopoly in the market for Futures -based Bitcoin ETFs. Now, on Thursday, Valkyrie had begun accumulating a small amount of Ethereum Futures positions ahead of their strategy change becoming effective. Although this move appeared to be technically allowed, analysts noted it gave Valkyrie a jump on the competition. On Friday morning, Valkyrie announced, however, that it had reversed course and would not continue accumulating Ethereum positions. It would also unwind all existing positions that had been entered on Thursday. Bloomberg ETF analysts speculated that the SEC must have threatened them to get them to reverse course. Now, moving out more broadly, once it became clear that multiple Ethereum ETFs would be launching on the same day, analysts noted that the battle lines would be drawn against two dimensions, fees and marketing. It's very clear that the companies, very clear that however these initial results look, the companies are going to be pushing very hard. From a fees perspective, VanEck is at 66 basis points compared to 85 from Bitwise and 95 from ProShares. That said, due to a difference in structure, the VanEck ETF will have a less different tax treatment, which could make the savings and fees slightly less appealing. However, on the marketing side, VanEck premiered two 30 -minute advertisements on Thursday in anticipation of this week's launch, mostly to positive response from the crypto community. Bankless co -host David Hoffman said, Now, in seeming recognition of that, on Friday night, VanEck had... Now, in seeming validation of that point, on Friday night, VanEck announced that they would be donating 10 % of profits from their ETH ETF to the Protocol Guild, a group of over 150 Ethereum core developers.

SBF TRIAL: 10/02 Update

"Welcome to the SBF trial, a Coindesk podcast network newsletter bringing you daily insights from inside the courtroom where Sam Bankman -Fried will try to stay out of prison. Follow the Coindesk podcast network to get the audio each morning with content from the Coindesk regulation team and voiced by Wondercraft AI. It is officially trial week and as Bloomberg's Joe Wiesenthal would likely put it, this is why we get up in the morning. It's been exactly nine months and 20 days since Sam Bankman -Fried got arrested at his then home in the Bahamas. Today marks the last day before he is set to start the trial in which he will win back his freedom or be locked up for what a federal judge says could be a very long time. Thousands of pages of evidence ranging from internal documents to audio recordings will be presented and fought over in the next six weeks as US prosecutors try to prove that the former FTX founder knowingly defrauded customers and business partners. Arguably the most damning evidence or lack thereof could come from the recollections and personal opinions of Bankman -Fried's former colleagues, friends and housemates. Caroline Ellison, Nishad Singh and Gary Wang were close friends and roommates of Bankman -Fried as much as they were colleagues. Ellison was emotionally invested with the FTX founder and troubled by the former couple's on and off relationship which according to a diary entry from her slowly fizzled out in February 2022. Prosecutors also say they intend to call up FTX customers and investors including non -US customers over the course of the trial. On another note, do you remember when FTX suddenly announced it was hacked and lost some $600 million worth of crypto? This was the same day it filed for bankruptcy last November. A decent portion of those funds sat in a wallet for a few months and then started moving this weekend. Around 15 ,000 Ether worth around $26 million at Sunday night's prices moved out of a wallet through various routers and privacy tools between Friday night and Sunday morning. We never got an explanation for what exactly happened and how the exploit was carried out. I imagine federal investigators are probably closely tracking this episode. On a logistics note, Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled in favor of the DOJ's motion to prevent Bankman -Fried from getting into the weeds on what his lawyers may or may not have said about FTX's operations in his opening statement. However, Bankman -Fried's defense team can still raise the advice of counsel defense later on with notice to the court and DOJ. In court filings, the defense said the argument would be that FTX's in -house and external lawyers were part of decisions to use auto -deleting messaging platforms, set up legal entities in the US, loan funds to FTX and Alameda executives, and other aspects of the FTX -Alameda relationship. Want to follow along? Sign up for CoinDesk's new daily newsletter, The SBF Trial, bringing you insights from the courthouse and around the case. A highlight from ROLLUP: Coinbase Crashes DC | Gary Grilled By Congress | Vitalik Deepfakes

"Miss Wagner is like, yo, MIT version of Gary was pro -blockchain, but SEC Gary is anti -blockchain. And then Richie Torres is like, yo, it's a Pokemon card of security? These people are listening to crypto Twitter. They are like, these are our things. The power of crypto Twitter is like getting into Congress. Well, it's because it's distilled logic. I mean, Bankless Nation, it is the last Friday of September. David, what time is it? It's the Bankless Friday Weekly Rollup Ryan where we cover the entire weekly news in crypto, which is always an ambitious endeavor, yet we persevere nonetheless into the frontier this week with a bunch of clips of Gary getting grilled. So everyone, everyone prepare for that one. If you're not listening to this with coffee, because it's too late in the day, well then you should get your popcorn, because that is what you will need. I mean, this is a catharsis, I think, for many of you in this episode. You'll enjoy this very much. Also, crypto was present in Washington this week. Yeah, Coinbase's stand with crypto day was held at Capitol Hill the same day that Gensler was giving testimony in front of Congress. Convenient. What about the timing of that? David, what else we got? After that, we'll talk about pudgy penguins in Walmart landing a huge deal, a ton of distribution for pudgy penguins, also with each toy purchase having an on -chain identity on ZKSync. So we'll talk about that. And then after, also not only are penguins getting identity, but citizens of Buenos Aires perhaps also getting some on -chain presence as well. We'll talk about that. And then, of course, we're going to do the PSA of deepfakes and phishing attacks that are out there. We got a Vitalik deepfake that we want to show you. It's pretty hilarious, but not if you believe it. Notable VC Fred Wilson got phished for 40 NFTs this week. So if Fred Wilson can get phished, so can you. We will talk about this and more. What else we got, Ryan? You know, the usual Bitcoin ETF stuff. ETH might be getting futures. There's a ton to talk about every week. This is a bullish week, I think. I'm declaring it such, David. It is a bullish week. And we got some green candles when we get to the markets. But before we get in, David, we got a message from our friends and sponsors over at Layer Zero. What do they want the folks at home to know? They want you to know that after a year, over a year of combined effort, Layer Zero and Google Cloud have announced their partnership, and they are ready to build the interoperable cross -chain apps of the future. What is Layer Zero? Of course, Layer Zero is a set of smart contracts that are deployed on every single chain. These smart contracts connect to each other. How do they connect to each other? Well, they need some Oracle service in the center to be the chatterboxes, the passing messages between all of the Layer Zero smart contracts across all of the 50 different chains. Google Cloud is that new default Oracle. That is the partnership that they have created. So there is a link in the show notes for you to go explore more if you're a builder who wants to build on Layer Zero. LayerZero .network is also the URL. Well, you know what I want to learn more about this week, David, is markets. Tell me about the old markets. I think, I think, I haven't looked at this yet, but I think we got some green on the week. We got some green, dude. Let's look at the Bitcoin charts first. What's Bitcoin showing us? Some single digit green. Look at that green right on the right. That's your dose of dopamine for this week. It's like, whoo, Bitcoin up 2%, whopping 2%. Started the week at 26 ,600, ending the week at, well, Thursday morning, if you call it the end of the week. It's not the end of the week. 27 ,150, up 2%. Ether price up a little bit more, starting the week at 1660, up 4 .5 % to the current price, excuse me, starting the week at 1560, ending the week at right around 1660, where we are right now. 1660. I mean, it's still low. That is a low price. We are getting excited about very little right now. Yeah. It's up such a small degree, you shouldn't even be excited about this. And yet we are. Yeah, we are. 4 .5 % on the week, I'll tell you. It's better than flat. When's the last time we had a double digit week, man? Double digit up or down? Up. I can't remember either, actually. We've been in the flatlands for so long. It's just like kind of a little bit of a bleed out all the way from 1900. Weren't we over 2000 a few weeks ago? Yeah, we have touched over 2000 in this bear market, but man, it certainly doesn't feel like it. Last time we were at 2K was July. In July, briefly. We weren't at 2K. Yeah, I can't remember July. Well, I was in the mountains. It's been downhill ever since I caught back for the mountains. Yeah, it really was. It's been all downhill since you guys. The only thing you can do, David, is go to the mountains. Bad things happen to Gary Gensler when you go to the mountains. Although, I guess nothing bad happened to him this week. Anyway, I'm skipping too far ahead. We'll have our Gary later in the episode. ETH, Bitcoin, up 2%. Total crypto market cap, $1 .11 trillion. Layer 2 scaling factor, touched 6 % this week, down to 5 .5%. Still at all -time highs. Layer 0. Wait, what touched 6 %? Excuse me, not 6%. Total value loss? 6x. 6x is what I meant. Oh, activity. That's what you like to look at. Yes, layer 2 activity touched 6x of Ethereum, but now it's at 5 .69. Nice. 60 transactions per second, 64 transactions per second. Yeah, that's where we get the 6x. We got more transactions per second left in this tank, I think. Oh, yeah. David, you want to talk about the general markets, like all the TradFi markets? You want to talk about macro really quick, because it's been super confusing to me. It's been super confusing. And then I read this tweet. We're also doing a macro show on Tuesday as well. So a macro show, so talking about the state of macro from a crypto person, so it's a crypto person who understands macro, so I'm really excited for that show. Are you a crypto person that understands macro, David? Do you understand macro? When I have a smarter macro person with me, then yes, I understand macro. My question to you is, does anybody really understand macro, particularly right now? Oh, you mean current snapshot? Definitely not. Yeah, all right. So here's the tweet. Current situation. One, stocks are falling like a recession is coming. Two, oil prices are rising like there's no recession in sight. That's contradictory. Three, interest rates are rising like we have 10 % inflation. Yes, they are. Four, gold is falling like inflation is gone. Five, housing prices are rising like rates are falling. And six, commercial real estate is falling like it's 2008. Nothing adds up here. That's the way I feel about macro right now. It's very confusing. There is a confusing set of signals going on, and it's not adding up in my head. What do you think about this? Yeah, they follow through, and they say it's beginning to feel like a pivot point in sentiment. I don't know if I'm about to say what I think they are meaning by this, but when there's a bunch of confusion, people, I think, brace for something, brace for clarity, and then whatever that clarity is will define sentiment. Where are we going? We don't know. As soon as we find out, we'll know how we feel about it. But we know it's going to be different from here. Different good or different bad? Those are the only two directions. Yeah, I guess that's the reductive take about it. But it's basically like we don't really know. That's why I'm very interested in doing this macro episode next week to see what the newest macro person kind of knows. I will say one thing, though. I think volatility is back on the menu. I think that's what this means. Because when the market doesn't know what direction it's going to go in, then it can kind of lurch in one direction or the other. So weird macro climate right now. On the back of stimulus, on the back of money printing, like what's going on here? And just to be clear about something, we've previously talked about stocks being at all time highs. That's been kind of the theme of the last two months, I would say. Well, so from looking at the SPY, you don't have the chart up, but it has declined by 7 % since July. So the SPY is down 7%, which is more. That goes to the first bullet point. Stocks are falling like a recession is coming up. I don't know. It's down 7%, just doesn't feel like a lot to me. Well, in the trade market, 7 % is a lot historically, but not recently. 7 % in the trade market is actually, that's just like, trade markets are also volatile. OK, well, we'll try to make sense of this, but let's get back to crypto. This is a negative report from JP Morgan, who said, Ethereum's activity post -Shanghai that was the last hard fork back in March, has been disappointing. JP Morgan calling Ethereum's progress disappointing. They've got some reasons for this. While the shift from proof of work to proof of stake meant that the energy consumption from Ethereum collapsed by 99%, the Ethereum supply is shrinking and staking rose sharply by 50 % since the Shanghai upgrade. While that happened, the increase in network activity has been rather disappointing. Ethereum's daily transactions, daily active addresses, and total value locked on DeFi protocols on the network have all experienced declines since the last hard fork. So JP Morgan, their analysts expressing some bearishness here over the last six months or so. Yes. I'm not mad, just disappointed with that activity. My response to that is, who the hell are you? JP Morgan doesn't know how to analyze these things. Well, I don't know. Ethereum post -Shanghai activity, it's just the broader crypto downturn. And also, they're just wrong, JP Morgan, he is wrong. They say layer twos have displayed mixed results. Well, no, TVL and economic activity on layer twos across the board are all up. I don't know where the hell they're getting their data from, but not only is their data wrong, but their analysis is poor. Well, let's go to the actual numbers, Stephen. Layer two beat provides a good source for value locked on layer twos. What are we looking at? At the 180 -day time frame, it's basically flat. It's marginally up, it's basically flat. It's a flat TVL, $10 .5 billion. Activity is up, it's up so much. It's unequivocally up by a lot. I'm disappointed in JP Morgan. Wow. Have you ever been not disappointed with JP Morgan, David? I'm generally disappointed by banking in general. Really? You should start a podcast called Bankless, David, about escaping your bank over time, slowly. I think Vance Spencer put that tweet in perspective as well. Actually, I don't think he was responding to that tweet in particular. But we are. We got some perspective here from Vance Spencer. This is Ethereum, if you chart it against some of the fastest growing tech companies in human history, companies like Alphabet was Google, of course, and Meta or Zoom or Microsoft, and how quickly, over time, it took them to surpass $10 billion in revenue. How long did it take them? It took Ethereum seven years. When charted against these other tech companies, there's only one that did that faster, and that is Google. Yeah. Ethereum really did all of its $10 billion of revenue inside of 2020 to 2023. I mean, so look at this line. It's just kind of like a slope line up. So I mean, doing pretty well, all things considered, JP Morgan. Not disappointing. I'm not disappointed by this. And I'm not disappointed. Also, long -term perspective, not disappointed in the price of ETH over the last seven years either. And we can keep going. Uniswap this week hit 300 million in swaps. 300 unique million trades, swaps, has happened on Uniswap. Uniswap was invented in 2019. 300 million swaps since 2019. Is that disappointing? Is that disappointing? I'm not disappointed by that in the slightest. I feel great about that. Maintain my disappointment about JP Morgan. You know, I think it's part of a broader crypto sentiment, and I've seen a lot of takes just in general in news, but even in financial analyst news like JP Morgan research, that sort of thing. It comes back down to this, David. Mainstream thinks that crypto is dead, again, like always. This always happens. And this is what makes this a buying opportunity, as with previous cycles. And when crypto 10x's the next cycle, don't let anybody tell you you didn't earn it. Because if you're buying here, when everyone is saying crypto is dead, it's never coming back. That they're disappointed. That's how you earn. It's so easy. The signals are just being laid at our feet right now. They really are. I tweeted something like that out, and somebody responded with this life cycle. What are we looking at here? Yeah, just like the cycle of the bull bear market. So in the top of the bull market, some crypto friend of you will tell you, a bankless listener, you're so lucky. I wish that I bought two. And then the crypto market will go down and be like, you're an idiot. I told you crypto was a scam. Yeah, so especially when they say the words disappointing, it's such an emotional word. It's kind of just playing into the readership. I don't know if JP Morgan is about that game. I mean, we're in the stage of the cycle where everyone thinks you're an idiot. And they told you it was a scam. And you can't talk about crypto at your family events or parties because you're just the crypto moron who knows nothing. And ha, ha, ha, SPF, FTX, that's so stupid. Scams, frauds, NFTs are such a joke. Well, granted, some of those things are actually true. Sure, sure. But if you're still in crypto and you know why you're here. And you're no longer buying the scams because you can identify them. And then you'll swing back to like, I am a genius. I am amazing. I am lucky. Or third parties will say you're lucky when that happens and you'll feel like a genius. You've been chewing glass for three years, but you know, you got lucky, though. You got lucky. How about the Bitcoin ETF, David? Here's a tweet from James Seyfert. What's this about? He just says that the SEC has come out super early and delayed the ARK Invest and 21 shares Bitcoin ETF filing. There wasn't a decision due until November 11th. And typically up until recently, the SEC has always gone up right up until the buzzer. But they decided to delay their decision on this earlier than usual. You know why? Partially? It's some speculation. It's because the government's about to shut down. The U .S. government's about to shut down. That's on Monday, right? On Monday? Yeah. So apparently if by Sunday night, this Sunday night, Congress doesn't reach some sort of compromise resolution, whatever agreement to keep the government running, then it shuts down yet again. I mean, how many times have we been through this? And so this is the SEC just getting ahead of that so that the stuff doesn't expire while the government shut down. And I guess, I don't know what would happen if the government shut down and these deadlines were missed. But maybe they would de facto be approved. I think that could be how it works. Is this some sort of pseudo oracle about how the SEC thinks that if we do go for a shutdown, we'll get shut down all the way until at least November 11th? I have no idea. I have no idea what this could mean. I do know this is good news. So Congress, both Democrats and Republican lawmakers, sent a letter to Gary Gensler pleading that he approve a spot Bitcoin ETF.

It is my birthday tomorrow. So sometimes if my birthday coincides with rewatchables, which I think has only happened one other time, but we like to do a big movie. So that's where we're doing one of my favorite movies the last 40 years. Stay tuned. Coming up next, we had an action packed loaded week three. We're gonna talk Taylor Swift, Travis Kelsey. We're gonna talk about Miami putting up 70. Sal's team losing. We're gonna introduce a new character, parent corner. Sal sent his kid to college. Oh man, this is almost two hours. Let's get to it. First pro jam. Let's get to it. All right, taping this a little after 8 .30, Sunday night Pacific time. The hardest word come in and show business is here. Cousin Sal just watched Pittsburgh Vegas, a bizarre game, but we're not starting there. We're starting with your team. You're stupid cowboys. You compliment me and now that I see what you did here. Okay, all right. Your stupid team that I thought I could throw into a little 11 and a half Arizona, like throw a bit. All they had to do was run by two and a half. I had a FanDuel boost. I had real life money. I had a million dollar pick and it's like, of course they'll beat the Cardinals by two and a half. Rahim thought the Cardinals were tanking. No, no, that's not what happened. And now you're containing cowboys. They couldn't even make it to my birthday before they fell apart. They couldn't even make it to the end of September. Was that the goal? I guess had they known your birthday was a Monday. Yeah, they might've stuck around. I know, I know. I don't know what to tell you. It sucked. I had it tied to everything too. I had an Oregon this and the Chiefs this and the 49ers and the Cowboys and everything. And I didn't even care that they had three, essentially three offensive linemen out or that Trayvon Diggs got hurt. Not that I didn't care, but I didn't think it would affect this game. And then they just got, they went out there and got their asses kicked. 13 penalties and didn't force any turnovers and couldn't do shit in the red zone. And of course it's a double digit loss, jerks. I kept, I had in the back of my head Rahim's theory that the Cardinals were tanking and that they were only playing one, a good first half. And then they would throw away the second half because their real goal is Caleb Williams. So at halftime, I'm like, I'm not going to panic yet. Maybe the Rahim's theory, no. The Rahim's theory was not true. The Cardinals actually played really well. And your team, I will say, look, this happens sometimes. Usually it doesn't happen in week three. It happens later in the year. But the team that is getting smoke blowing up their butts, they have this easy game and say, oh yeah, we're going to Arizona. It's going to be half Dallas fans. This will be a layup for us. So we've seen this scenario, just not this early in the season. What worried me though, from a Dallas standpoint, forget about the offensive line and the blocking stuff. Cause you'll get those guys back. But you do seem to have like third and seven, third and eight if Lamb is covered, where do you go issued? Like, you know, not everyone has the Kelsey type, but you don't have the Devontae Adams. You don't have really any of those guys. You don't have that big physical tight end in the middle. You don't have the awesome, you know, James White type third down running back who's going to get open. And you could really feel it in the red zone. They were one for five in the red zone today. Yeah. I mean, you know, what's his name? The tight end who went to Houston, I already forgot his name from Dallas last year, was our second lead. Schultz was our second leading receiver last year. So yeah, there is something to be said about that. And I do want to put it in proper perspective. If the Eagles lose to Tampa Bay, which is a possibility tomorrow, the week is a wash in the NFC East, right? That means everyone will have lost. So I don't want to get too crazy, but it did expose, you're right, everything I always worry about. Can Dak come up with a big play down the stretch? You know, are these injuries too much to overcome? And Mike McCarthy in that play calling, it really seemed like we were up 12 points trying to bleed the clock, not down 12 points. And it's like, oh, maybe he's just afraid to throw it. And then when we saw, he threw into three defenders and you cleverly quipped, how did they know which of the three were to intercept it? Yeah, that was kind of wrenching. That was an angry text to yours. I was just angrily texting. Like it was your fault that I was losing all my teases. Yeah, he just threw into three guys on one of the biggest plays of the game. Complete panic throw.

A highlight from Ep372: The Difference Between Successful People

"Whatever is for you, I need you to think, need you to consider. As soon as you're done listening to this episode, I need you to ponder for a little bit and think to yourself, what is it that I need to make a decision about and just stick to it. Most hosts never achieve the results they hoped for. They're falling short on listenership and monetization, meaning their message isn't being heard and their show ends up costing them money. This podcast was created to help you grow your listenership and make money while you're at it. Get ready to take notes. Here's your host, Adam Adams. Hey, podcaster. It's your host, Adam Adams. And I want to talk about something that successful people do a little bit differently than less successful people. And that is making a decision and sticking to it. So this episode today is going to be short. It's going to be a what it means to you, what you need to do in order to get it. Successful people make a decision and then they take action on that decision. Less successful people, those of us that struggle, we are reluctant to make that initial decision. We move through it and we kind of try a little bit of stuff, but we never commit. We never really go full bore. Think of a rhinoceros, think of a rhino at the African jungle. They will put their head down and they will charge. They just put their head down and charge. They make a decision. They commit to it. They go forward and they bulldoze everything out of their way as they do that, as they put their head down and they stay committed. So I'm encouraging you today, whether you need it for your podcast, to hire a company like ours, to take off all of the hard stuff, like the post -production and all of the graphics and emailing your guests for you. Maybe you need that. Maybe that'll help you save 12 hours a week. Or maybe you need to start doing some marketing for your company. Maybe it's that you need to start doing social media more. Perhaps you've avoided social media because you're afraid. You're scared. You're not sure. You're a little timid. You're like, I don't want to offend anyone. So I'm not sure if I want to do this on social media, or I'm not sure if I got the money. I don't want to pay for some marketing. I can do it as good as I need it to edit my own podcast. Now I don't mind spending those 12 hours a week editing one episode. And so I'm not going to do that. Whatever it is for you, I need you to think. I need you to consider. As soon as you're done listening to this episode, I need you to ponder for a little bit and think to yourself, what is it that I need to make a decision about and just stick to it. I'll be a little vulnerable and be honest with you about something that I'm doing. And I went and did my bodybuilding competition. And then in the next day and a half, I think I gained 16 pounds from 186 or 0 .9, like about 187 pounds up to 203 pounds in just the next day. It was like the afternoon of the one day and then the evening of the following day, I gained 16 pounds. Yeah, of course it can't all be fat. It can't all be muscle. It can't all be water. It's a combination of things. I probably ate a lot of food. It got stuck in my gut. I was probably on a calorie deficit. The point being that I gained it real fast and then it was hard to get it off. It was hard to get those 203. I'm not now back to 187. I'm not yet there. It's going off much slower than it came back. It's going off much slower. And I was reluctant. Listen, this is today's takeaway. I was reluctant. I felt like I put my heart and soul into fitness for so long. I counted calories. I ate many, many meals a day at exact times of the day. I worked out six days a week and it got great results, but I was tired and I wasn't ready to commit. I hired a strength coach and I wasn't quite ready to commit. And so I was kind of flopping because I didn't make a decision and stick to it. Now, just a couple of days ago, I'm recording this on a Saturday and on Wednesday is the day that I went to the gym and I got there and my heart wasn't all in it. And I was trying to ask myself, should I just leave? Should I just quit? Should I just not do this new challenge of strength? It's basically a CrossFit total. Anybody knows that it's like powerlifting. So I'm looking for a CrossFit total of a thousand pounds or a powerlifting total of 1 ,125 pounds. Those are my goals. And I hired a coach to do that, but I'm floundering. I go on a vacation. I was in Tulum this week and I came back on Tuesday and on Wednesday I was feeling like, I didn't work out on Monday because I drank too much on Sunday night. And so I just didn't feel like working out on Sunday, excuse me, on Monday. And then on Tuesday it was like a travel day. So I did not sleep hardly at all because I wanted to make sure that I caught my cab on time. So I got two hours of sleep and then we fly, then we drive and then we fly and then we land. I get home and I did not feel like I had the energy to go to the gym that late. And so Wednesday comes around an option in motion stays in motion, an object that's stagnant. Usually we'll just stay stagnant. It's hard to change inertia. If something's moving, it stays moving unless something physically stops it. If it's still, it stays still unless something physically moves it. And after a Monday and a Tuesday, I got into that, I feel like I'm staying still place. And I have dedication. I have discipline. So I showed up, but with a pissy attitude, with a I don't want to be here attitude. Am I even sure I want to do this? And so I contemplated and I thought, and this is what you're going to do after you listen to this episode. And I thought about my fitness and what my real goals are and why would I do it and why wouldn't I do it? And it was then and there that I made the decision that I'm going to enjoy it. And so I smiled. By the way, when you smile, you release endorphins in your body that makes you happy. Using your smile muscles releases, what is the best way to say it? Releases oxytocin. Oxytocin. Oxytocin. Oh my gosh. I can't talk. Oxytocin. And now all of a sudden you feel happy and healthy. So I did that. I made the commitment. I made the decision. I said, hey, I shouldn't be doing this. I feel stagnant. It's not easy to get started moving when you've been still for a while. Now this works with your podcast. This works with your business and certainly works with your health or religion or your family. In this case for me, I'm using my health as example, but for you, when you leave this podcast, it might be religion or family or health or your podcast or your business. I need you to make a commitment to do something and to go full bore in it. I committed that I would enjoy the gym. And so I got a new energy just after I smiled and after I decided I got a new energy. And then I went back the next day with vigor, with enthusiasm, and I crushed it. I got done with all of my workouts much faster than I normally do because I was excited about it, because I tricked myself the day before, because it kicked my ass and got myself in motion. And now I'm staying in motion. Friday, same thing. Go back. Today's Saturday. I'm halfway tempted to go. I want to go. I'm like, this is great. I don't want to take a day off. I love it. I love the way that I feel after I go. And you're going to love the way after you hire my company to support you with your podcast. You're going to love the way you feel. You're going to say, this is great. Why didn't I do it sooner? You're going to love the way you feel when you make those sales calls, when you follow back up with the people that you already did us a discovery call with. When you do that, you're going to feel better. When you go to the gym, you're going to feel better. When you call your mother and you're like, hey, I know we haven't talked in a while, you're going to feel better. And now you're an object in motion and you're likely to stay in motion. So the difference between successful people and non -successful people is that they make a decision and then they stick to it no matter what. Tony Robbins always says, the only way that you're going to take the island is if you burn the boats. You and your Vikings come to take over an island. You keep your ships there. You've got a way out. But when you're decided and committed that this is the thing you're going to do no matter what, you get rid of plan B and you just do the thing. I'll see you on the next episode. Oh, hey, because three of my their podcasts make the money instead of cost them money. We put together a resource for some of our clients and I want to give it to you as well. It's something that did actually seem to help because one of them is now making $2600 a month. Another one $4500 a month. And the third is making between $5000 and $10 ,000 each month. And so it's been a resource that's been incredibly valuable to them. It's our sponsor sheet template. It's a template of a sponsor sheet and it gives you something that you can hand to potential sponsors and hopefully also be making $2600, $4500 or between $5K and $10K regularly each month with your podcast. So this has been a contributing factor to helping all three of those clients turn their podcast into an additional income stream for them. And the way that you can find it is just going to our website, growyourshow .com, but put in forward slash templates, growshow .com forward slash templates. And then you can actually download that template and others that could be valuable to your podcasting experience. I'll see you on the next episode.

A highlight from Biblical Missions

"We will be looking at quite a few different passages of scripture tonight. Rarely do I speak topically, which is what I've been doing on Sunday night. And we are on the topic of missions and the reason I want to go over the topic of missions is because we need to be more mission -minded, more mission -aware, more mission -alert. We need to take the Great Commission to heart. That when our Lord spoke it many, many years ago, that truth still rings true today. We need to go make disciples. Our goal ultimately, when it comes to missions, you remember what our goal is? Everybody remembers. The goal of missions is to bring glory to God. In Matthew chapter 28, I'll just start out there, and there what we read, as Jesus came in verse 18, He spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world are the ages. Amen. We are commanded to go. We're commanded to make disciples. When it says teach all nations, it's literally saying it's make disciples. And then the Word of God tells us that we need to baptize and teach them all things. In the context of what Jesus is saying here, I believe baptism is an ordinance of the church. And teaching all things should also be a high priority with the Lord's churches. Therefore, missions takes place in the context of a church. The great commission here, I believe, is given to the Lord's church. Our purpose in missions ultimately is to glorify God, but what we do is we don't just evangelize. I hope you picked that up from the last week and the week before. Therefore, we have a goal as far as in missions of glorifying God by starting churches. We do evangelize. That is part of the great commission. But the pattern that the apostle Paul showed in the book of Acts, as he went from place to place, he preached the gospel of Christ, and he started churches from the disciples who started following the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are taught through God's word. We are to evangelize. We are to baptize. And we are to teach all things whatsoever he has commanded us. Churches started. When churches started, what happens? They then join in the great commission. As churches start, then they start evangelizing, baptizing, and teaching all things whatsoever he has commanded us. There are other roles when it comes to missions. In our day and times, you have heard of many different roles and missions, such medical as missionary. Or, you know, you can think of other aspects of ministry as far as in missions. But let me tell you tonight, ultimately, it must come in the role of supporting church planting. Church planting is what we target for as far as in missions. Therefore, any other aspect of ministry, when it comes to missions, it must support the effort of church planting. I draw your attention to what we went over last week, over in the book of Romans, chapter 15. In Romans, the 15th chapter, I'd like for you to look down in verse 19. Romans, chapter 15, in verse 19, there we read, Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. He accomplished his purpose as far as in preaching the gospel of Christ from Illyricum all the way to Jerusalem. Then he says, Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation. Then in verse 23, he says, But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you, he had no other place to preach there, simply because the name of Christ had been named. There had been churches that were started. Paul's ministry was starting churches, and as those churches started, then they took part in the Great Commission, and the word of God was proclaimed all around that area. So therefore, you have churches popping up in a lot of different places. I want you to notice what it says over in 2 Corinthians. 2 Corinthians, chapter 10.

"Hello there, Dennis Prager with Julie Hartman. Dennis and Julie. Best time of the week. That was sweet. That's true. I love it too. Isn't that something? Okay, we won't wax about our enjoyment of what we do together. It can start grating on people. And for some it has. And we know, we're aware. Well, for those of you who don't know, this has actually preoccupied me. So very recently, and I'm sure all of you, certainly in the United States, are aware of the once in 80 something years, in other words, not since 1939 was there a tropical storm in Southern California or maybe California. We don't get that. I mean, Florida gets it. The East Coast gets it. Other places. So people, namely the National Weather Service, the state of California, the county of Los Angeles, it was like COVID. Schools were shut down. Government offices were shut down. People were warned, constantly stay home unless it is an emergency. This is life -threatening. I have a picture of the notice on my phone. Well, I attended a wedding that weekend. The warnings were for Sunday night. That Sunday night, I was to attend a wedding, which I did. The groom told me, and to his great credit, he was not engaged in self -pity. He just noted 40 people. And I would say the entire number of people there was 100. So there would have been 140. 40 didn't come. Because of this hurricane. Right. So now what everybody listening and watching needs to understand is Sunday night, it rained in Southern California. That's all it did. There were no winds. Not lightning from my part of town. That's an interesting point. Right. And regularly in Southern California, there are heavier rainstorms. It was just raining. That was the entirety. Now, there were parts outside of LA County where people were knee -deep in water. That's also very common. When there's a heavy rain, there's some flooding. It's part of life. So I was thinking, oh, I was very angry at the 40 people who didn't come to their wedding. It's so sad for the bride and groom. I mean, God bless them for enjoying their day. Even if zero people show up, you're getting married. It's a sacred, beautiful thing. But that must have been difficult for them. I would be sad and upset if 40 people, a large percentage, didn't show up. I got to tell you, I would pay any one of them money, good money, to come on my show and explain why they didn't go to the wedding. Well, in fairness to some, maybe they were flying and their flights were canceled or something. But do you think it was primarily local? No, no, no. They were in LA. No, no, no. And some had already arrived a day earlier. Nobody flew in that day. And the flights were not canceled. There was no reason to cancel a flight. Nothing happened. That's true. I actually was going to visit my sister on Sunday. She lives near LAX and I was watching planes take off and land in the rain. Flights were resuming. Resuming is not even the right word. They were going on. Resuming is fine. But they were never paused. Oh yeah, that's correct. So it's not the correct word. Okay. I was trying to bail you out. I know. Thank you. I appreciate it. I know you do. They closed the schools. I know. That's absurd. Truly absurd. How many parents won't complain? Well, you said on your radio show 1%. I would agree, but I actually think a lot more would write emails if they didn't think that they or their children would be penalized for doing so. I think that a lot of parents would fear that they would be labeled as climate change deniers, complainers, not trusting of the government and its supreme wisdom and authority. These parents would be seen as being hard on teachers who may not have access to transportation to get to schools. I mean, that's honestly what I think would prevent the parent more than anything else from sending an email to the school. And that's a whole problem unto its own. Yes, that is. So my very, very dark conclusion is one I wrote about. I actually read it on my radio show. You read my book, Think a Second Time, my book of essays? Of course, yes. I've read all your books. Yeah, you did. Okay. Except Deuteronomy. Except Deuteronomy. Yeah, I haven't read that yet. So I have an essay in there. I mean, I'm very proud of this fact because I wrote this in the late 1990s, a long time ago. And I wrote an essay about an experience I had. And in a nutshell, I was to give a speech in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which is a suburb of Philadelphia. And so I arrived the day before in New York City, stayed overnight at a hotel in Manhattan, had a rental car. All night and when I woke up, do not drive blizzard storm conditions unless it is an emergency. Do not drive. I looked out the window of my hotel room. I remember this so vividly. And it looked to me like there was about one inch of snow on the ground. So I remember thinking, because I still had not yet realized what I now realize, people are so influenced by media that it is more influential than their own experience. Yes. This is critical. This is why it's so dark. So I thought, oh, well, I guess it's in New Jersey. It's horrible. Of course, it was a stupid comment because how far is Manhattan from New Jersey? You know, one of the tunnels or the George Washington Bridge. So I left three hours early and I got there three hours early. There was no traffic. Everybody listened to the radio and TV. And that awakened me to the ease with which people can be brainwashed. You are experiencing the opposite of what we're saying and you believe us. Well, that's the comment that I made. I remember on Dennis and Julie while I was still in college. I one remember day walking in Harvard Yard and this hit me like a lightning bolt, a real one, not a government fake one that may or may not have occurred during a fake hurricane. Anyway, I remember walking in the yard and going, what people are fighting against, what occupies so much of their time, the money that goes to grants and research projects and theses at this university doesn't exist. I mean, not that I shouldn't say doesn't exist, obviously. Small amounts of racism in the United States exist. Climate change does exist. Is it the existential threat? But think about that. This whole complex of thought and money and energy and time and it is given to these boogeymen that aren't real. The average student at the American college or university who says that they are fighting against racism has never seen it before a day in their lives. Isn't that amazing? And so you're right. People can be brainwashed so easily against what they see, against what they see or I mean, in the case of racism, don't see racism is totally rampant. I've never seen it. Wouldn't you think if the United States were as systemically racist a place as the left makes it out to be, don't you think we would have met one racist in our lifetime? I have never met a racist in my entire life. Literally not one. Well, I've lived a lot longer than you. The only one I knew was my grandfather. I know you told that on the air. Which was somewhat of a joke. Right. Because he treated, you said you treated black people beautifully. I have never in my life, not only have I never met a racist, I've never even like seen, I've never seen a neo -Nazi holding up a Nazi flag on the street. I've never, I've never even, I can't name one. It's absurd. Well, tell everybody what you pointed out to me. It's brilliant. I think we said this last week, but it's worth repeating. So when I worked for Dennis one summer, one of the things that I helped him out with was going through his massive volume of mail on email and flagging the most important things. And in all of my days and hours spent going through your mail, which by the way was riveting, it could be a show onto its own to talk about the messages you get. I never saw a singular racist email. That is amazing because as I think I said last week, you're a public figure. Forget that you're a conservative public figure.

"I'm Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent, and this is Chasing Life. People measure age in all kinds of ways. Most of us start with the number of years. But as I've started to discover on this season of the podcast, that doesn't really tell the whole story. I guess there's no denying that our bodies do go through some changes. But aging is not linear. Listen to Chasing Life on the iHeartRadio app. Xfinity Flex is pulling out all the stops to give you free premium entertainment every week, no strings attached. Try a little bit of everything every week. Say free this week into your Xfinity voice remote. Hello, and welcome to the MMQV NFL podcast. I'm Connor O 'Rourke. We've got Mitch Golding here for what is undoubtedly my favorite day of the year, and that is relaying the results of me picking all 272 games on the NFL calendar. I have Mitch here because he is the editor that actually has to fact check the most ridiculous thing on our content calendar. I don't think it's even close. And also to do all of the tiebreakers. So I should ask you first, Mitch, how are you feeling about all of this? I'm great. I love the NFL tiebreakers. This is me in my element. I wish I could just spend my entire year doing nothing but NFL tiebreakers. I think I'd be very good at the, you know, the basically Steve Kornacki after one of the recent election cycles, they just started letting him do it on Sunday Night Football. He comes on the pregame show and the halftime show. I could do that job. Now, I love Steve Kornacki, and so I'm not trying I'm not coming for his job and I'm not trying to say that he is bad at his job, but I think that's like a role for me that I could easily handle. Just put me on there talking about tiebreakers. Oh, I love it. But Connor, I have to ask you, is this really one of your favorite days of the year? Because that's a classic thing that you say now. Let's go behind the curtain. We are taping on Wednesday and this will be revealed Thursday. I know you. You will be a ball of stress. You will be getting requests for radio shows in cities where you said their team is going to go 5 and 12. You're going to have fans yelling at you. I think you're going to be a little bit stressed tomorrow. So just try to remember right now this feeling of how happy you claim to be and try to just keep that in mind tomorrow when when people start slinging their arrows at you. You're right, Mitch. I think that the day when, you know, all radio stations want to have you on to either praise your pick or be skeptical of your pick or fight your pick. I famously got into sort of a verbal fisticuffs with a Cincinnati radio host before the year that they went to the Super Bowl. I had them projected for four wins. And I think I said over and over on the air, find me more than four wins on that schedule. I think Joe Burrow did that and then some. He got him. And but since then, you know, come full circle and everybody in the playoffs alone, which is why if you're a loyal listener to the podcast, you know, I became a Bengals fan. So it's all good. It all. Yeah. Oh, we buried the lead. Connor, how was your first week as a Bengals fan? It was great. Although if anyone listened to the podcast last week, I was between the Bengals and the Ravens. And so my wife and I watched the Ravens commanders preseason game where the streak was broken. And I got I got kind of emotional. I mean, you can read what I wrote about it and but I thought this was a very big thing. And I was very standing on the table ish for John Harbaugh and the Ravens in that moment. But I had to get that out of the back of my head. They're division rivals. And just because I almost picked them doesn't mean that I can't root against them. And so full steam ahead. We're just waiting for news on Joe Burrow like everybody else. Mitch. Yeah, it's interesting. Now everything we read of yours will be through the lens of is he being a biased fan here or is he being objective? And I don't know. I don't know. We'll find out. At least now your biases are out in the open for for all to know. I think it's going to be a fun bit to just fully jump from. I just picked this team yesterday to where have you been? I'm a dyed in the wool Bengals fan. I love Skyline Chili. Have you ever had Skyline Chili? I have. I like Skyline Chili. I know it's controversial. I like it. I'm I'm I'm a supporter. What's your like what's your workup? Do you do the whole thing? I don't. I think so. So I have not had it in a long time. So I couldn't tell you the details, but I well, let me try to remember. I think it's like five ways. I like all this, all the stuff on it. It's possible that it has gotten more ridiculous since I've been there and they're putting on like absolutely crazy numbers of toppings just for Instagram or whatever. But last I remember it was the the spaghetti, the chili, the cheese, the onions. There might have been a fifth one. The sort of I feel like I went there for the first time, right before sort of it became a thing on the Internet that people liked to complain about or argue about or say was disgusting or whatever. And so I don't know, there may have been changes in the years since, but but whatever the classic like as of the year 2010 way is the way that I've had it with with all the stuff available to me in that time. Nice. I yacked in a Skyline bathroom once because I just couldn't. The mountains of cheese. I don't like cheese, but I had a friend order it for me. And so I think if I had to do it again, I would do the spaghetti, the chili and the onions and maybe that would be something I could maybe that be something I could stomach and walk away from. I'm not going to disparage Skyline chili because my roommate used to make a really good Skyline chili dip in college. So I think if I could bring that back somehow, I'm pro Skyline. There's nothing quite like it anyway. So no, no, no, no. Don't anyway. Me. I have more Skyline chili takes. Let me give you a pro podcast is brought to you by Skyline. By the way, I have had, I have been to a Skyline chili establishment and I have had it there in the restaurant. I also, I have been to one Cincinnati reds game at, I think it was called great American ballpark at the time and it has some other new stupid corporate name now, but I ordered it at the reds game and you know, at the restaurant it comes on a plate and you're right. It's piled high with all that cheese. At the baseball game, it came in like a plastic Tupperware kind of situation with a lid and they closed the lid so that you could walk with it to your seat and that process of closing the lid. It got so hot in there that all of the cheese melted and it was excellent that cause you're right. It's the, the cheese restaurant. It's like straight out of the bag, just like the, you know, cold shredded cheese where it's the little pieces, but, but uh, in the Tupperware melted all this hot gooey cheese all over everything else I thought was a, it was a great way to enjoy it. So I have no idea if it still comes like that. This could all be different. I think that was back in maybe 2007 so we're, we're talking about a long time ago, uh, me remembering this chili that I had, uh, but loved it at the ballpark with the melted cheese. It's still great American ballpark by the way. Oh, interesting. Which is a, which so great American is an insurance company. Uh, so it is a company name, however, it's just called the great, like if you called it the great American ballpark, I feel like that's solid. Um, that's going to go down a, uh, that's going to go down a rabbit hole, but all right, I'm glad we landed there at skyline chili. Obviously as big of a bangles fan as I am, I'm going to need to learn to stomach that. I'm going to find the way that I like it. If anybody listens to this podcast and lives in Cincinnati and wants to tell me how to enjoy without skyline cheese, please leave your rating in a review and your ideal skyline markup because then that way I can, uh, I can try to duplicate it when I'm out there trying to get some season tickets and uh, you know, did you hear from any bangles fans this week? I did. Um, I got, I got welcomed with open arms. I'm, I'm pretty excited about it. I do feel like this is the right time to get in. I feel like the super bowl year would have been a little rough.

"This episode of Markets Daily is sponsored by Kraken. It's Monday, August 7th, 2023, and this is Markets Daily from Coindesk. George Kaloudis here again with your daily news roundup. On today's show, we're talking Bitcoin, the latest headlines and more. And just a reminder, Coindesk is a news source and does not provide financial advice. Bitcoin and Ether are still rock solid. Both have proved remarkably non -volatile in otherwise volatile times. They're basically stablecoins. Bitcoin hasn't risen more than 4 % in a single day since June 21st. The lack of volatility has, of course, sparked market chatter about an impending volatility explosion in Bitcoin. But to that, traders, analysts and market participants remain unconvinced that volatility to the upside will come from anything except the approval of the Spot Bitcoin ETF. And so, yet again, we turn our eyes and ears to the institutions and the Spot Bitcoin ETF for some potential price movement. On the topic of institutions, MicroStrategy, the public company that holds 152 ,000 Bitcoin on its balance sheet, is nearly back in the black with its Bitcoin bet after racking up a paper loss of roughly $1 billion. That is genuinely impressive, given MicroStrategy was buying Bitcoin through the height of the bull market when Bitcoin was around $69 ,000. There were, of course, back then, silly articles and suggestions that MicroStrategy would have to sell its Bitcoin into the open market as the price of Bitcoin fell from its all -time highs, leading to a death spiral in price. But that fear seems to be overblown, at least for now. It's a sleepy, sleepy summer in the markets at the moment. Today's crypto market coverage comes courtesy of Coindesk Markets analyst Lilo Ledesma, and I'm cargoed with Bolle. Bitcoin is currently trading at $29 ,019, while Ether is trading at $1 ,827 per token, according to the Coindesk Market Index. And shifting to the traditional markets in the U .S., the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 0 .1%, the S &P 500 Law 0 .6%, and the Nasdaq Composite decreased 0 .9%. In Europe, the Regional Stocks 600 added 0 .6%, and London's FTSE 100 in Germany's DAX increased 0 .5%. In Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index is flat, the Shanghai Composite is down 0 .6%, and Japan's Nikkei 225 increased 0 .2%. In commodities markets, Brent crude, the international benchmark for oil, is up 0 .4%, trading at $85 .80. Gold, meanwhile, is flat at $1 ,975 per troy ounce. First Republic Bank versus trouble is also flat, trading at $0 .33. Today's traditional market coverage draws for MarketWatch. PayPal to issue dollar pegged crypto stablecoin based on Ethereum. Global payments giant PayPal is launching its own U .S. dollar pegged stablecoin, PayPal USD or PYUSD. The Ethereum based token will soon be available to PayPal users in the U .S. and marks the first time a major financial company is issuing its own stablecoin. Users can transfer PYUSD between PayPal and supported external wallets, fund goods and services purchases, or convert any of PayPal supported cryptocurrencies to and from PYUSD. PYUSD will first be made available on PayPal's popular payments app Venmo. Meanwhile, PayPal said it would provide a tested reports of the funds backing the stablecoin in an effort to thwart concerns about unbacked tokens. Elsewhere, WorldCoins Nairobi warehouse raided by Kenyan police, according to local reports. Kenyan police raided the Nairobi warehouse of identity and cryptocurrency protocol WorldCoin on Saturday, confiscating documents and machines. This comes after Kenya's Ministry of the Interior suspended the project's operations in the country last week. The raid was reportedly conducted under the supervision of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, who said Tools for Humanity, the parent company of WorldCoin, failed to disclose its true intentions during registration of its operations. Moving on to our last update on CRV. Curve recouped 73 % of hacked funds, bolstering CRV sentiment. Curve Finance, which recently suffered an exploit, has recouped some 73 % of funds stolen during that hack. The hack saw the platform lose over $73 million worth of various tokens, causing contagion effects in the broader ecosystem. Over the past week, all $22 million in Ether and Ether derivatives stolen from lending protocol Alchemax -Fi, which is part of curve, were returned. Still though, over $18 million in stolen funds are still remaining. And on Sunday night, Curve opened up a bounty to the public. The protocol itself added, quote, if the exploiter chooses to return the funds in full, we will not pursue this any further, end quote. So unless something drastic happens, this will likely be the end of this particular CRV saga. Today's stories come courtesy of Coindesk's Shari Amalwa, Amitash Singh, and Aliza Gritski. A highlight from Part 1: USAs World Cup Collapse, Basebrawls, Jets Optimism, Life in The G-League and The OC 20 Years Later | with Gabe York and Zoe Simmons

"Coming up, an unexpected two -part podcast cameo from me. It's next. We're also brought to you by the Ringer Podcast Network, where we turned over Sean Fennesey and Amanda Dobbins' big picture feed to Brian Raftery. It's a narrative podcast called, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. You can find it on the big picture starting on Tuesday. And it is an idea I'm really excited about because it came from a class that I did as a senior in college in 1992. Me and my friend Horgs talked a movies professor into doing a special Vietnam War movies class where we watched basically every Vietnam War movie that had been made up to 1992 and then tried to write a big picture term paper about it. And the thing that was really fascinating about that class and something that stuck with me was just that whole concept of Hollywood reinventing the entire Vietnam experience under the premise of, Did We Get to Win This Time? So we got Brian involved and he turned the idea into an awesome, awesome podcast. I even went and dug up the term paper that I wrote 31 years ago. I thought it was gonna be horrendous. It wasn't bad. I was kind of proud of myself, retroactively 31 years later. Anyway, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. It is gonna be in the big picture podcast starting on Tuesday. So that's one piece of business. Second, new rewatchables on Monday night. It is the 300th movie that we've done. It's a special one. We're doing National Lampoon's Vacation. It was time. Meet Chris Ryan, Van Lathan. Yeah, and Van was pushing for it because we wanted to do Christmas Vacation during the holidays and you can't do Christmas Vacation. If we do National Lampoon's Vacation, super fun. Can't wait for you to listen to it. And we'll be running the video at some point on the YouTube channel, youtube .com slash Bill Simmons, where we put up a whole bunch of rewatchables podcasts in case you missed it. Boogie Nights is up there now. Goodfellas, Independence Day, just a slew of them. So if you're bored and you wanna throw on some rewatchables and watch us make fun of each other, there you go. Last but not least, I don't wanna say this is the most important, but it's certainly the thing I spent the most time on. Our documentary that we did about the G League with Religion of Sports and Ringer Films, we combined, and it is premiering on Tuesday, August 8th. It is called Destination NBA, A G League Odyssey. It's really good. We immersed ourselves into the G League season. We followed Scoot Henderson, Gabe York, Ryan Terrell, Mason Jones, and Denzel Valentine. And the big question was, what is this world like? What's it like to be in the G League? And I am really proud of where we landed with it. And we even have, much later in this podcast, Gabe York is gonna come on. He's one of the five that we followed, and he's gonna tell us what it's like as you're holding on to your dream in your late 20s. We try not to spoil the doc too much with Gabe, but I really liked him. He's probably the guy that jumps out of the doc in the most sympathetic way. So look forward for you to watch it. It is prime video, Tuesday, August 8th, Destination NBA. A G League Odyssey. You love basketball, just watch it, it's good. So there you go. This is gonna be part one of a two -part podcast. Gabe is coming up later. My daughter Zoe Simmons is coming up later because we did a whole bunch of OC stuff on the Prestige TV podcast. I was even on two of the episodes. But I ended up watching season one of the OC. And my daughter was watching with us and loved the show. And she was born a year and a half after it premiered. So me and her broke down season one from the perspective of what is it like when somebody 18 watches the OC, a show that is now two decades old. The anniversary was actually August 6th. And what she liked, what she didn't like, what people aren't doing anymore for her kind of audience. And we just dove into it. So that is much later. First, coming out of the gate, I'm gonna open a six -pack because we have a lot to discuss over the past three weeks, all the stuff I missed. So that's gonna be part one. And then part two, which is gonna go up later on Sunday night, me and Rossello doing this evergreen idea that we've always wanted to do. And this seemed like the perfect time because nothing's happening in basketball. So that's gonna be part two later tonight. Part one coming up. First, our friends from ProJax. What's up? All right, I'm taping this. It is Sunday afternoon Pacific time. And I'm gonna open a six -pack. There's a bunch of stories in sports and culture that happened over the last three weeks. I was just writing stuff down, things that would have been fun for podcast segments. I was just like, man, I wish I could have given my thoughts on that. Just gonna rip through them. So I have six and then maybe a couple bonus ones at the end. The first one, the biggest one, was the US women's soccer team, which lost today in penalty kicks to Sweden, scored zero goals in the last two games, scored one goal in the last three games, and that was off a corner kick. You could feel from the beginning that something was off with this team. It was all the ways. You knew in a checklist of what are the red flags? There were just red flags galore. And the only person who was really calling it out in time over and over again was Carli Lloyd, who was doing the Fox studio show. And she was the one person in the horror movie who knows the house is haunted. And everyone's like, shut up. You're not being patriotic. You just wish you were still on the team. She was right. She was right from the get -go. This team, you could see it before the Vietnam game when it was like, look at the new Nike suits. Look at these new suits. And they're all like styling as they head into the locker room. And they're running commercials. And every player has a commercial. There's players who've never done anything of that commercials. And the vibe was just off. They only beat Vietnam three -nothing in a bracket where goal differential was gonna be super -duper important. And that was a huge red flag. And we did the usual thing that we've been doing since 2019, 2015 of, oh, well, they almost scored a bunch of times. Oh, well, if that had gone in or some bad luck. There was just an arrogance to this team. Like they were carrying themselves like the defending champs, the same way like the Denver Nuggets would go into next NBA season. Like we're the champs. I was like, yeah, you are the champs because the season just happened. The World Cup happened four years ago. Everyone's four years older or wasn't on the team. And you could see they wanted to build the team instead of around the identity of, here are these new up and coming awesome stars that are gonna be in your life. They were really latching on to Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. Alex Morgan's 34, Megan Rapinoe's 37. I think one of the differences between the discourse with women's sports and men's sports is that in men's sports, we grasp for angles. And if somebody is disappointing in some way, we really go nuts. Like think of how James Harden's been treated over the last 12 years. So he's one of the 35 best players ever and has taken just an incredible amount of shit. Oh my God, the playoffs, look at his game log. Oh, he choked again. Alex Morgan, who scored twice in her first two games in the World Cup in 2011, she scored once in 2015 in seven games. She scored six times in 2019, five against Thailand in a game that was 13 to nothing, one in the other six, and then scored nothing in the four games this time around. If you take away that Thailand game, she has scored two goals in the last 17 World Cup games. This is the striker. This is the one who's supposed to be the most dangerous player in the field, who's supposed to produce goals. And she hasn't produced goals since the mid 2010s on the national level. And yet it's Alex Morgan. She was supposed to be the next one. We got to keep propping her up and pretending she's a superstar. She's not a superstar. She's really honestly never been a superstar. She certainly hasn't been as impactful as somebody like Abby Wambach was. So you have the team built around her. She's got to play. They play her the entire game, game two, the entire game, game three. She plays like 95 minutes in this game today, and they don't score goals. And the announcers just won't talk about it. It's like being on an AYSO team that your kid's on, and the coach is playing somebody at striker, and everyone's like, why don't they play Sally at striker instead of the coach's daughter? It's like, oh, you know, the coach's daughter. She's got to play there. So you have that, and then you have Rapinoe, who's 37 years old, who's just, unfortunately, great career, legendary, true legend, huge big time player. And when you hit your late 30s in soccer, it's a wrap. She looked like Yudana Rapinoe, not big Rapinoe, and comes out for the last 25 minutes of this game and can't do anything, and then misses the penalty kick. That's the thing. If you're beholden to past performance, you can't expect to succeed in the moment. And I did feel like, what were this team's strengths? Speed. They had Sophia Smith, who really was bad the last three games on the left wing. Like, she just, she couldn't even connect passes. Trinity Rodman, who's a beast. Lynn Williams, who's super fast and athletic and had some really nice moments the last two games. And then Alyssa Thompson, who's the prodigy, who's the, you know, potential tiger or LeBron of this team. 18 years old, best high school player I've ever had. They won't even throw her out there. But this was not a team that could connect passes. They weren't, like, especially creative. The coaching was just bizarre, and we'll never see that guy again. But it was like, the one thing they did have was speed, especially the forwards, and they just threw that away. And Alex, you know, couldn't do anything. So now they're out. It's the most disappointing finish of the last 25 years for the women's team. And it reminds me in a lot of ways that 2004 Olympic basketball team that we had, the USA team. And I tweeted this, I think after the second game, because that was a team that was between eras, like this one was, where all the best players on that 2014, the ones in their primes, weren't that good, except for Duncan. And Duncan was completely banged up. He'd played so many NBA games the last couple of years. I think his knee was hurt. But, you know, it was Iverson and Marbury. The talent, it just was a between eras. And you had guys on the bench, like LeBron and Carmelo and Wade, who were four years away. Kobe wasn't on the team. And it just felt generationally, like we caught that team in the wrong time. The style was wrong. And we learned all these lessons and we moved on. 2008, we win. There's a documentary about it. But this team felt like it was between eras. The Alex Morgan, Rapinoe era, which was basically done. And then you have this era coming up with Rodman and Sophia Smith and Alyssa. And, you know, it's just four years from now, we'll probably be fine. But they need to re -imagine this. And I think if you're gonna learn any lesson from this, it doesn't matter what happened four years ago. It's the World Cup. It matters what's happening now. So that's one thing. Second thing. So Jaylen Brown gets this huge contract, $304 million. Some people seem surprised that it was that much money. Chris Ryan even took a shot at it when we did our library watchables. Hurt my feelings a tiny bit. Mainly because I didn't really have a comeback. Rosella did something on his podcast about how this actually makes sense. This amount of money, when you think of how the salary cap has climbed just since 2015, and it's gonna keep climbing. And there's this world you can go into where you think about just how much everything is gonna cost in the NBA four or five years from now, that Jaylen Brown at $70 million isn't actually gonna be that intimidating. The same way we feel about Tobias Harris for $40 million now, or Klay Thompson, $40 million now. Yeah, you don't really wanna pay $40 million for Klay Thompson, but you can survive it. And I think that's gonna be where the Celtics land with Jaylen. Here's why they had to do it. They're the favorites on FanDuel right now. They're plus 470. The thing that made them the most special and has made them the most special for the last five, six years is the Jaylen Brown -Jason Tatum combo. They've been incredibly successful. The team itself has made five conference finals in the last seven years. They came super close to making the finals last year. I have now gone into the what if zone with that Celtics team where what if Tatum doesn't hurt his ankle on the first play? Do we beat Miami? They were close is the point. And when you're that close, you can't fuck around. This is not Bradley Beal resigning with Washington for 50 million a year when everybody knows you can't get past the eight seed with Bradley Beal. This is different. You're trying to win a title. You're trying to keep all your optionality open. The thing that's a little scary about it, nobody seems to totally know if he wants to be in Boston. This is something we've discussed on this pod. It's been floating out there. The fact that he wasn't happy about landing in the Kevin Durant trade rumors a couple years ago. And just in general, where the league is now, where as Woj called it, the transfer portal, where people get their contract first and then they decide what they want to do. And I think for the Celtics, they know they bought themselves a year with Jalen and they are still one of the favorites to win the title. And a lot of it's going to depend on health and Porzingis. You could also, I don't want to make the case, but you might be able to make the case that Brown had a fucked up hand last year. Cause he did. Cause he sliced his hand open. It was bleeding even during the Philly series. And maybe that was why his ball handling went sideways. Listen, you got to do the contract. It just breaks your brain. I remember a million years ago, Sports Illustrated and Inside Sports say every year they would have like a salary issue. And they would talk about these guys are making $1 million a year. And it seemed like so much money. And now where we're heading with the money, plus the NBA is the meteorites deal. The moment any of these guys becomes unhappy, what do you do? Because you're paying Jalen, let's say you're paying him 55 million a year. Plus he is the trade kicker, which the team has to pay. Right? So if he decides after a year, you know what? I'm tired of being the scapegoat. Everybody loves Jason. I'm like the middle brother of this team. I want my own team. I want to go to Houston or Atlanta. You got to trade me. What are the Celtics going to do? On top of who would want out, you don't have a lot of options and you turn into what the situation Portland's in with Deem. And then on top of it, it's so much money. It's impossible to get any sort of a fair trade for the guy. So they had to do it. And optionality the that comes out of it is frightening. I remember in the early 2000s, when the first time the contracts kind of went nuts and you would see that people get signing like six -year, $100 million deals, seven -year, $110 million deals. And the Celtics really, really stupidly traded for Vin Baker. One of the worst trades of the last 30 years for Boston Sports. A trade so bad, you knew it instantaneously. And I wrote a piece that you can probably find somewhere in the ESPN archives about it, where I compared it to the end of Thelma Louise when Harvey Keitel is running toward the cliff trying to stop the car from going off the cliff. That's how I thought about the Vin Baker trade when it happened. Then it happens and you just had this salary albatross. It's a salary cap league. And you're like, wow, we just threw away 20 % of our salary cap on this trade. There's going to be a couple of those that are just franchise killers. And whether that leads to them bringing back the amnesty clause, who knows? I wish, I've made this, I've had this idea before. I wish that they had a rule in there that if you drafted a guy, every year that he stays in the team, you get rewarded in some way from a salary cap luxury tax type thing, right? So Jaylen was 2016 draft, this would be his eighth year. Maybe like after the seventh year, because that's usually like the third contract. The guy stays in the team, maybe each year after that, he doesn't count for 2 % of the luxury tax, up to like 30%, something like that. The point is the Warriors should be rewarded for keeping Draymond and Klay and Curry from a tax standpoint, that they were that smart to draft those guys, keep those guys together. They should be incentivized, the players, to want to stay with them because there's some luxury tax stuff that the team gets. And the team should want to be incentivized to take care of those guys because it's also beneficial to them. I just wish they figured out some version of that rule. Anyway, Jaylen was always signing for $304 million. Talk to me in a year, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Next thing, I missed the running back pity party. This was crazy. The running backs all got together and they were really upset about how much money they made. And I don't know what to tell you. There's too many running backs and not enough running back spots. And I don't know if you're trying to build a responsible salary cap team in a collectively bargained era, why would you spend $30 million over two years on a running back unless the running back was awesome? Nobody even wants to spend more than $11 million on running back. So I knew that this was crazy when Damien Harris, who was on the Patriots, who I thought was really good. He's maybe not an elite running back, but a good running back, right? Somebody that if he had been on the Chiefs, he easily could have started for the Chiefs. And he signed with the Bills for like one year, 2 million. And when that happened, combined with Pacheco on the Chiefs' seventh round pick, they won the Super Bowl with him. It's just, this position's devalued. I work on this player, I've been actually working on it the last couple of weeks where I try to rank the players for blue chippers, red chippers, pink chippers, honorable mention, and have this whole point system. And so quarterbacks, Mahomes, who's the alpha of that position, he's worth 10 points. And you could even see this in the point spread. If Mahomes gets hurt, the Chiefs are 10 points, nine points, whatever, less than what they would be as a favorite. They'd switch to an underdog. And you go on down the line. Jalen Hurts, I had him as an eight. I had Joe Burrow as a nine. And you go on, you keep going down, and it's like, Geno Smith's probably a two. But then you look at some of the other positions and you have to value them the same way the salary cap values them and teams value them. Guards, they aren't worth that much. Running backs, sorry, they're not worth that much. My top running back was three points because ultimately running backs don't really matter that much. In the last like five, six years, I would say Derrick Henry was the only running back that you could definitively say, this guy almost won the Super Bowl. Like he was that good. Other than that, you know, it's plug and play, quarterbacks, it's receivers. It's much harder to find the number one receiver. Every team needs one. It's much more tangible if you don't have the number one receiver. And it's much easier to just kind of scrap together the running back position. And yet people went nuts about this. We ironically had this in the NBA with centers. You know, Vucevic, who's a really good offensive player, he signed for 60 million for three years, 20 million a year. And Jaylen Brown's going to make $52 million a year. Is Jaylen Brown two and a half times better than Vucevic? No, it's just, he plays a way more important position. You can only play one center at a time. You can patch together the center position. You could have like Isaiah Hartenstein for $8 million. You could, you know, get Robert Williams for 16. You don't need to spend what Phoenix did on Eaton where they're paying $8 and $30 million a year at center. And you don't really need to do that. You kind of feel obligated if you don't want to lose the asset. But I think the NBA is going to go this way eventually where unless it is Jokic or Embiid, the center or Bam Adebayo, it's a bonus. You could argue that was already an overpay. They gave him a huge extension. The Lakers just gave Anthony Davis $60 million a year as an extension. I would argue that's a little frightening. I feel like you could patch together the center position. What really matters in basketball is having the creator. And this was the argument five years ago with Luka versus Eaton for the number one pick. And I made this argument. It was like, go look at who wins the NBA title every year. It's always the people who have the creator. There's somebody who's on the perimeter of the ball in their hands. Even Jokic, who wins the title this year, he was a creator. He's not a typical center, right? He's basically their point guard on offense who could post up. So this happened in the NBA. Nobody went nuts. And this is happening in football. And is this where football is. If you want to make the most amount of money playing in the NFL, I don't know why you would be a running back. I would be a cornerback. I would be a wide receiver. I'd be an edge rusher. But if you're a running back, you know your shelf life's probably like five, six years. You know the money is not totally gonna be there. Now they're in this, like you have people like JK Dobbins, like, I might hold out. It's like, really? You didn't barely even play in the field. Barkley said he was gonna hold out. And then, you know, probably looked at it. And the money for Barkley is like 10, 11 million. That's unfortunately the market. So you can't fix this. They collectively bargained it. And until we get to the next CBA, I don't know how you fix it. I thought it was really weird. It felt like people had nothing to talk about. And it was like, ah, let's feel bad for running backs. All right, let's take a break. And then I'm gonna finish the rest of the six pack. All right, picking up on the six pack. We're gonna talk a little more football. I talked about the running back pity party. This is a different kind of party. The Jets optimism, which has just been stunning to me over the course of July. I have Jets fans in my life. These are people that usually have no hope and are very reminiscent of the pre -2004 Red Sox fans, just assuming the worst at all times. Why does God hate us? All that stuff. And now they have this crazy optimism based on the fact that they brought in Aaron Rodgers, who I did not think was very good last year, just throwing that out there. I wouldn't say he was bad, but for Rodgers, he was bad. I mean, we thought Rodgers was, he was the reigning MVP and we thought he was still one of the five or six most impactful players in the league. And I don't wanna read stats to you for the next six minutes, but deep balls, he was bad. Turnovers, he was bad. Leadership, he was bad. And the case for Rodgers coming back would be, well, he's gonna be rejuvenated. The Jets, New York City. This is his team. He got away from Green Bay. He's got Hackett back. I get it, but he's also at an age where we've really only seen Tom Brady succeed at a high, high level at the age that Rodgers is at. I was trying to figure it out. I have my QB ratings and I had, you know, the top tier is Mahomes and Burrow and Allen and Herbert and Hertz. Those have to be the top five. Then it drops off and it's Lamar Jackson and Lawrence. And then Rodgers, probably a hair underneath him with a chance to play himself up with those guys. But from what we saw last year, I'm not ready to put him there. So he's the 10th best quarterback in the league, probably. 10th or ninth best quarterback in the league, probably. Well, they have no offensive line. And I don't understand why people keep glossing over this where it's like, hey, Rodgers and Garrett Wilson, he's one of the best receivers in the league and Breece Hall's going to come back and the defense is really good. And it's like, yeah, the offensive line is terrible. Beckton and Dwayne Brown, sure tackles again. And then you have Robert Salah as the coach, who I cannot say I thought that Jets were crisply coached last year. Whatever he was doing with Zach Wilson was insane. No idea if that guy's even a decent coach. So I'm already worried about your offensive line, the age of your quarterback, and the competency of your coach. And that's before we get into the hard knocks curse, because for some reason they're doing hard knocks, the incredible Super Bowl hype already. And then we have the schedule, which is the AFC East has just got screwed by the schedules this year. The Jets, just for quarterbacks in 17 games, they got to play Josh Allen twice, they got to play Mahomes, Herbert, Hertz, Dak Prescott, and Deshaun Watson. And then they also have to play Miami twice. We'll see what we get out of two this year. And then a really good Pats defense. And then Denver, who knows, they might be rejuvenated. So Danny Dimes, they have to play him. It is a brutal schedule, so you have that. And then on top of everything else, you're the Jets. I was there with the Red Sox before 2004, and this is probably just as bad, where you just think the worst possible things can happen is all the time. You're not allowed to have optimism when you're Jets fans. You can be cautiously optimistic. There was an entire Curb Your Enthusiasm episode once, season 10, episode seven, about being a Jets fan. And it was called, I think, the ugly section. Nick Kroll was the maitre d'. And part of the episode was about, he would put these people in different sections of the restaurant, depending on how attractive they were. But there was this other plot, Larry's buddy who loved the Jets, kills himself. And Larry becomes convinced it was because of the Jets, that the Jets killed his friend. This was only a couple of years ago. So now they get Aaron Rodgers, and everything's good. And they're gonna win the Super Bowl. I don't see it, guys. I don't wanna step on my football stuff too much, but I'd be shocked. And Lombardi points out the defense that everybody's ready to compare to the 85 Bears. Lombardi said they had two turnovers over the last eight games last season. So that means something too. I am dubious, to say the least. If you're gonna tell me a tortured franchise actually turns it around this year, I want a tortured franchise that doesn't have expectations. Because the Lions are another one. Everybody's ready to put them in the Super Bowl or close. And the only case for them is just pretty explosive offense. They couldn't stop anybody last year. And the NFC is terrible. But that's another one where is that a fan base that should be super excited and have a ton of hype? The one that's kind of lurking that fits in this group is the Browns. Because the Browns are actually super talented. They're in a winnable division. Burroughs already hurt. And I think they're four to one to win the AFC North on FanDuel, something like that. Their over -under is, I think it climbed up.

A highlight from Introduction to Evangelism

"What comes to your mind when you hear the word evangelism? Glenn Weeks. Think of an evangelist. I think evangelism, or we could say sharing our faith, our faith in Jesus Christ, sharing the gospel, we kind of have an idea of what that is. We kind of have an idea that we need to do it. The Bible has told us to do that. But a lot of people, I think a lot of Christians, we kind of struggle in this area. We want to talk about evangelism. I think maybe the next several Sunday nights when I preach, I want to look into this topic of evangelism. But really before we get into somewhat of a series on this, I would like to get your feedback on evangelism. So I'm going to ask, don't write your name on the piece of paper. If you already wrote your name on the piece of paper, I can get you a different one. But I would like you to go through. We have some questions. I'll read through these. But I would like you to write down, just in one or two sentences, your answer to what this question would be. And then I would ask that you allow me to collect the papers at the end. So I'm not coming after you. I'm not going to know who wrote these. Your name's not going to be on here, so I don't want to know who wrote these. But I want to get a little bit of a sense for maybe where our church is at when it comes to evangelism, what are our thoughts when it comes to the gospel. So I think this will be helpful. But first of all, first question there, what is the gospel? If in one or two sentences you could just simply, in your own words, write, what is the gospel? It doesn't have to be anything major or in -depth. Just one or two sentences, how would you define the gospel? And then the next thing would be evangelism. What would you say is evangelism? All right, and then the next one would be how do you share the gospel? So personally, what are you doing right now to share the gospel message? This could be the tract distribution, letterboxing. This could be talking to coworkers, friends, family about the gospel. So what is it currently that you personally are doing to share the gospel message? And then the next question might be a little bit more on a personal nature. I don't want you to necessarily think that I'm taking a dig here. But what are some reasons that you don't share the gospel? So why do you share the gospel? Why don't you share the gospel? Think about it from both angles there.

A highlight from Week in Review - Episode 15

"Welcome to the Mike Gallagher Show Week in Review. I'm Eric Hansen. A lot of big stories happening this week, perhaps the biggest. Donald Trump announced that he was informed by Jack Smith and the Department of Justice that he is a target of the investigation into the January 6th Capitol riot. He released the statement on Truth Social. President Trump, of course, is the far and away front runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. He just posted moments ago on his Truth Social platform the following words, quote, Wow, on Sunday night while I was with my family, having just arrived from the turning point event in Florida, where I won the straw poll against all other Republican candidates. And as I am leading Democrat Joe Biden in the polls by a lot, horrifying news for our country was given to me by my attorneys deranged. Jack Smith, the prosecutor with Joe Biden's Department of Justice, sent a letter again. It was Sunday night stating that I am a target of the January 6th grand jury investigation and giving me a very short four days to report to the grand jury, which almost always means an arrest and indictment. Trump added. So now Joe Biden's attorney general, Merrick Garland, who I turned down for the United States Supreme Court in retrospect, based on his corrupt and unethical actions, a very wise decision together with Joe Biden's Department of Justice, have effectively issued a third indictment and arrest of Joe Biden's number one political opponent, who is largely dominating him in the race for the presidency. Nothing like this has ever happened in our country before or even close. He's right. We are in uncharted waters. I've never witnessed anything like this in my life, according to President Trump himself. He's going to be arrested a third time over January 6th. And wow, wow, wow. Let's never forget the words of Donald Trump on January 6th. If this isn't criminal behavior, I don't know what is. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard. Those are the words from his speech that day that the media never lets you hear ever, ever, ever. I don't know what this means other than this seems so preposterous that Joe Biden is now setting up a third arrest for his primary for his primary political opponent.

A highlight from Jack Smith Goes For the Jugular

Really important episode here, so email us freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com and subscribe to our podcast, open up your podcast application and type in Charlie Kirk show. Get involved with Turning Point USA at TP USA dot com. That is TP USA dot com. Start a chapter today at TP USA. Dot com. Buckle up, everybody. Here we go. Charlie, what you've done is incredible here. Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campus. I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks. I want to thank Charlie. He's an incredible guy. His spirit, his love of this country. He's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created. Turning Point USA. We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives. And we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country. That's why we are here. Brought to you by the loan experts I trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific Mortgage at Andrew and Todd Dotcom. We have a really important show in store with you today, we're going to go to the breaking news that Donald Trump has announced he's likely going to face more federal charges brought to you by Jack Smith. This is not a surprise. We have been predicting it. This is a 14th Amendment play. But I want to put this in context. We're going to go through the details of it. So it's very important in context. There are several efforts underway, some of which that are obvious. And we talk about some of which that are not so obvious to prevent a populist nationalist conservative from becoming president in 2024. This is a no joke election. You know, they like to lecture us about democracy. We are not a democracy. We are a republic. But let's pretend what they mean is representative government, which we do have representative government, and we should applaud representative government. We're not just plotted, we should support it. None of this is in the tradition of the founding father's vision of representative government. These are extra constitutional. Organizations efforts underway to stop you from having a voice, they detest you, they hate you. If you're a Christian, if you're a plumber, if you work with your hands, if you're an ordinary American, they hate your values. They hate everything you stand for, and they are playing for keeps. The 2024 election, they are playing for keeps. There's a lot of troubling news, and there are some other developments that might really be difficult for Joe Biden and the Democrats. So it's not all bad news. Let's start with the news today. I'm going to allow Joe Scarborough, because I know you guys love Joe Scarborough. I get such a kick out of the audience. Any time I play a Joe Scarborough clip, I get all caps emails. And so I just want to say in advance, please send me those emails. I love receiving them. Stop playing MSNBC. I know I'm not doing it for your reaction. I'm just doing it to make sure this is your shot of expresso. I think it gets the audience on the edge of their seat. Which is MSNBC saying that Donald Trump is going to be indicted. OK, play cut 34. We have some significant breaking news. Jonathan Lemire, it looks like looks like another indictment, perhaps the most significant indictment may be coming. Donald Trump's way. Yeah, we may be on the verge of that in just a couple of days. Just in the last few minutes, Joe, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, his fledgling social media site, to reveal this. I'm paraphrasing. He says he received a target letter from the Department of Justice from Jack Smith's office Sunday night, saying that he is indeed a target. Of the January 6th grand jury investigation, target of the grand jury January 6 investigation. OK, so we've been waiting for months about this. This is the serious one. This is the big one. This is the ballgame. This is the potential disqualifier. I have here a very handy turning point, USA, United States Constitution, which we will reference in just a second, because it all ties together. This is direct election interference. All that should be illegal. It's not. It's the federal government saying to you, the American people, we don't trust you. We cannot allow a mandate from the American people to go after the administrative state, which Donald Trump is pledging. And I think that's a really important connection before we go any further. Donald Trump is pledging to purge the deep state, to purge Leviathan using schedule F. This is one of several reasons why they are not playing around. There's other reasons. There's personal revenge, pent up resentment. I don't like him. He's a threat. He's annoying. We got to get rid of him. Uniparty hates him. The Ukraine thing is part of the southern border is part of it. But make no mistake. The if you want to get Washington, D .C. into an active posture. Say that I am your retribution, I'm going to fire people from the administrative state. The administrative state is now fighting for its life. This has been bubbling up and will result in a volcanic eruption ever since Woodrow Wilson decided to defecate on the United States Constitution. This is 100 years in the making. Woodrow Wilson versus the American people. It comes to fruition in 2024. For decades, Republicans have turned our back on the administrative state. Oh, it's fine. We can make them work for us. Not a big deal. They're like postal workers. And, you know, we don't want to declare war on it. George W. Bush was a fan of the administrative state. Even Ronald Reagan was underwhelming in disassembling it. George H .W. Bush was a creature of the administrative state, former CIA director. They got rid of Richard Nixon, the administrative state took out Richard Nixon, according to Bobby Kennedy Jr., the administrative state murdered his uncle. So this fourth branch of government, J. Edgar Hoover, Department of Homeland Security, brought to you by your Republican president, George W. Bush. All of this was a constant theme of a fourth branch of government, of an unelected bureaucracy that really runs the country. The people are no longer sovereign and it's bubbling up to this massive prize fight.

Jonathan Lemire Ronald Reagan Jack Smith Woodrow Wilson Richard Nixon Joe Scarborough George H .W. Bush George W. Bush JOE Donald Trump January 6 CIA Joe Biden Bobby Kennedy Jr. J. Edgar Hoover Andrew January 6Th 100 Years White House Washington, D .C.

"I can always kick back and watch a little later basketball. And if the game the sunday night football game is interesting. Luckily out here have the replay of basketball game for the lakers and the clippers. So i can schedule my time to watch both or the. I can watch sunday night. Game like watch the laker game sunday night. Football game in the later game. also so Yeah i'm good. I'm good without having to watch the Without having to get the nba league pass. So that's one of the reasons. Why i say i take full advantage though didn't watch. Nba league pass this weekend along with watching the ken burns documentary on mohammed ali illegible. Maybe is all about a lot of football watching a lot of nba leap paddle pass watching a lot of muhammad. Ken burns documentary watching. So yes. that's what i'm all about. So two games. On tuesday night getting back to the nba season. Starting this past. Tuesday tuesday night games on. Tnt milwaukee started their defence of their nba championship with a win over the brooklyn nets. The kyrie irving louis brooklyn nets won. Twenty one afford unison. The kupa would brilliant on opening night. Thirty two points. Fourteen rebounds seven assists. Chris middleton pat coddington each had. Twenty points to rue holiday sat out the second half with a bruised right. He'll after scoring twelve points might bhuttan holder. The coach of the bucks at mar results on holiday were very encouraging so as not going to be something. That's going to be Crippling for the bucks in their defense other championship and we're speaking about one game into the season eighty one more to go. I'm quite sure especially after winning this championship that You know the bucks in holiday had plenty of time to make sure when everything is done when money. Time for real is happening. Long long. Long ways. Ways ways off with the playoffs. Starting that Barring any other injury after this one that drew holidays should be fine. And that the heal the bruise right. He'll won't be as much of a notion won't be much news as it is right now. So very encouraging sign for milwaukee bucks fan jealousy and twelve improved the frito shooting about that brooklyn. Seventy nine from the line. So going back to milwaukee's title clinching. Victory over the suns in game. Six where he went out of his flipping mind. What did he go the foul like seventeen and nineteen something like that with that epic fifty point. Fourteen rebound ba- form it's in game six clinching. Victory and the nba finals over the phoenix suns. If you take a look at that game six from the finals and the first game of the season against brooklyn i- contender true contender. Many people are saying the real contender for the championship. Even more so than the milwaukee bucks if you take game six in the game against brooklyn into account young his went twenty. Four of twenty eight from the foul line. Yates unless they all of a sudden. He's gonna turn himself into rick berry or paul pierce or reality for jj relic from the free. Throw line but my goodness gracious. If john it's can shoot somewhere between seventy and seventy five percent for the free throw line. Good lord have mercy. You know we spoke about. You know who's gonna be the mvp who's going to be the preseason mvp or who one of the favorites before the season started to win the mvp and people were speaking about luca and people were speaking about katie and people. Were speaking about steph curry. If they weren't those should be the three that they should be speaking about the most but because the fact that he's already won two. Mvp's fact now he has won a championship. That maybe janas has fallen. Maybe into a little bit of that. Lebron james type of category in terms of. Mvp is concerned where you know once you establish yourself at the best player in the world's best player in the nba for certain amount of time that very hard to top yourself coming off in the nba. Pc's endure the prohibitive best player in the game. You have the moniker when you have that. Label the bron. James i mean how many evie pieces. He went four or five or something like that somewhere. Another three or four something like that. How many years where. He didn't win the mvp where he was considered. Really the best player of the game or it might be a situation where. Yeah derrick rose on one of the mvp this year steph curry gone back back as far as they're concerned including one where he with the unanimous. Mvp all of those things are finding daddy. But if i were starting a team and i had to choose the first player multiple people say. I'm picking lebron james. But because lebron james top himself in terms of his greatness and because of other players who level who raised the level of their games and they became the story they became interested in they became something new something fresh that they were the reason why they won the mvp. We see it all the time and football is pretty battle. All the time in football in terms of the mvp is concerned. You need a you need. A narrative need story line. You need an angle to keep the writers and they keep the fans interested in terms of. Wow this is really something special. This is something really wonderful. This is something really knew what patrick mahomes doing. Big fucking deal. We've seen that three years in a row but what this guy is doing. Oh my goodness fantastic. We gotta vote for him. we got vote for. Mvp you take a look at the background. You take a look at the narrative you take a look at the story. This is unbelievable. We got a phone for this guy. So jaanus what narrative are we going to bring to the table for him to win the mvp for the third time in four years. That's not going to hold enough water to be like wow three times in four years. If he does do we start having discussions about well. Is she moving up the ladder in terms of greatest player of our generation whether the take him now in terms of the greatest players of all time. I mean there's lebron in terms of legacy. It's sir now have a rival hans possibility of Moving up to a level to where you know he might just be behind the great slide mike in in In lebron and kareem and wilt and bill russell low type of things. So maybe we can script. Maybe we could write down. Maybe we could produce a narrative like that. But i really don't think it's to hold water journalist now entering private twenty seven years old and realistically if you want to get to that level he better win three or four more championships when a couple of more. Mvp then put up some more mvp. Twenty eight points twelve rebounds six points six game type seasons for the next five or six years before he gets into that type of discussion but but but what he is doing now especially after coming off of that championship. Whoa i don't know how much of a narrative yuka right but it would be rather tasty. If you're speaking about janas would he third. Mvp fourth game. So as i mentioned before through all of this role of this rambling doing about the mvp discussion and yeltsin. That type of thing. What i'm saying is man if this guy is going to be hitting twenty four out of his last twenty eight free throws if he's going to be going through those types stretches which means that he's going to raise rates his points per game another five or six points per game if he's going to be average in if he'd averaging twenty four twenty five shooting fifty nine sixty five percents from the field of free line and all of a sudden he comes up and he's going to be shooting seventy to seventy five percent seventy eight percent of. He's got that down. Which means the possibilities of vm. Improving his pull up game. Which means improves is fifteen eighteen foot. Jump shot maybe even at a few more percentage points to his three point shooting man now speaking man now. We're talking man now. we're you know now. We're getting too dangerous. Categories you speak about katie. All you want to speak about james harden all you want to speak about steph curry all you want to speak about. Anthony davis all you want. You can speak about luca danni all you want to but You'd better put some true greatness in respect to the name yellow then the coupon if you can spell it and if you can't say it you might as well give a thumbs up and be like a yale when that name is heard if he's going to be able to do what he's doing.

"The weekend coming up by the way Sunday night. It'll be Patrick Mahomes in the chief's going to Baltimore Battle. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens Sunday night, seven Eastern only on NBC. Game coming up tonight. Ravens and the Raiders first time that the new stadium in Las Vegas will have fans for that game. Joe Thomas, you can follow him on Twitter at Joe Thomas 73, NFL network analyst former Browns All Pro offensive tackle now working for the NFL network. Joe. Thanks for joining us. If you're a Browns fan, How do you feel today? I think you feel great and they should feel great because going into the season everybody wanted to tell him about how great they were. And you always worry about, you know, step on your toe in that first game. I know they didn't win, but they beat Kansas City in that game. If you watch it from start to finish, and it's just a matter for them now, just learning how to finish down the stretch. This is a team that turned the entire organization in franchise around when Kevin's too fancy Got there, The mentality has completely changed. The culture has changed. Now, just learning how to wind down the stretch. But I mean having the Chiefs who Two years ago. They won the Super Bowl last year there in the Super Bowl. Lot of people thought that they probably could have won that Superbowl and going into their place in week one and really out playing them. I don't think that that is anybody's, uh, something that anybody should be ashamed of, if you're brown sand, but we're waiting for a signature moment from Baker Mayfield. Is that fair to say We're still waiting for that moment where you go? Okay. That's what elite quarterbacks to Yeah, absolutely. And your last year against the Ravens. He had that moment, but unfortunately, the Mark Jackson was a little bit better down the stretch and they were. They weren't able to win the game. So you don't really think of Baker having that signature moment, But he's still such a young quarterback if he continues to play the way he did yesterday, the rest of the season. He's going to get plenty of those moments in this season. Right now he's ready for it. What was more disappointing for the fan base is the bills losing at home to the Steelers or the Packers losing the way they lost to the Saints in Florida? The Packers, obviously, because everybody's talking about the last dance for the Packers, Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams like this is their moment They're going to win the Super Bowl. Expectations are sky high and to be able to go and just completely Attard against a team that really have so many questions going into this game, You know, how are they going to replace Drew Brees? How are they going to be able to focus on this game with the hurricane, displacing so many of them and their family playing the game in Jacksonville, and then coming out and stop it? All over the Packers really in a defensive effort. I know Jamis Winston had five touchdown passes. But it was a defense that completely stifled the Packers and turned Aaron Rodgers into a common looking quarterback. That was really impressive, and a lot of credit has to go to Sean Payton and the job he's done with getting that team ready, focusing through all the distractions and making Jamis Winston from a turnover machine to a touch stop machine. But also there is the defense usually start out ahead of offences in your opinion. What you experience when you played. Yes, they do because they don't have as many things to learn. They don't have as many things to install. It's much more instinctual, um, as far as just learning how to go out and tackle and run and hit like there's a lot of plays on defense. Don't get me wrong. But offense is so much more about detail. Communication, um, installing new plays. Reacting to what the defense is doing to you so typically development wise, the defense is way ahead. But when you have a guy like Aaron Rodgers Who's been around forever, and they've been in this offense now, several years under Matt LeFlore, I don't think that necessarily is true. In this case, they should have been able to come out and they should have been firing on all cylinders. It's not like this is the first time that they've played in this offense, and it's not like this is Aaron Rodgers is fifth or sixth year in the NFL. I mean, he's seen everything that's out there. He's got an experienced offense. There's no excuse to have a clunker like they did on Sunday. Is Chandler Jones Hall of Famer. I don't think he has Hall of Fame credentials yet like if he retired tomorrow, but certainly the way you play in the game on Sunday. He's got Hall of Fame talent, and he's building that Hall of Fame resume, Um, to be an all pro to be a pro bowler. You can do that in one season to be a Hall of Famer. You gotta do that over nearly almost a decade of football. And so he's got 102 sacks right now. Certainly there's The number right, right. That's a big number, but without the longevity. I think he becomes one of those guys that talk about but I don't think gets in at this point, but certainly he's right there. I mean, a few more seasons like he's been having, and I think you definitely can be all of Famer. What's the most sacks you gave up in the game? I don't think I've ever given up a sack, man. It was always the quarterbacks Faller. No, I remember there was a game. Um, where I gave up two sacks. Um, like sort of the middle part of my career against the Falcons. And I was really frustrated by it. But, you know, as an offensive lineman were always telling ourselves Well, you know, the quarterback was in the wrong spot. Yelled, remove all too long. And so, um, it really wasn't my fault. Yeah, they're going to give me the credit. I'll take the credit. It was my fault. But you always got to talk your way out of it. Like, you know, high school kid. Well, I was late for curfew. But, you know, I had a cat on the way home and said to find the owner of the cat, and then you know you always make those excuses in your head. Did you ever yell at getting mad at a quarterback Because He might have cost US act because he held onto the ball too long or didn't step up in the pocket. I yelled in my head and typically, instead of yelling at him directly, because I know that's kind of unproductive. What I would do is I just wouldn't help him up like you know, usually if if you see the quarterback land on the ground, it's alignments. Culture to go right over. Help your ball carrier up. Help your quarterback up. Especially if you gave up the Sakhalin. Wait, Wait. What was the name of that quarterback? I can't remember. I can't remember all the quarterbacks that I played with that started with me, but that was played with a lot of quarterbacks in Cleveland back there. There was a lot of quarterbacks back there, but I definitely instead of helping them up. I just turned my head and walked right back to the hole. That was his way of knowing that I was very displeased with what he did on that play. Book game surprised you the most yesterday. Kills the Packers right because.

And then walking away from it to go to new england for our cells gone. Does he really want to do front office. Where or does he want to go to. Abc and bill nye at two very very long discussions on the phone and the thing about parsoes was he always had all of the answers right. We're your questions but we sped too long to very long our share of bone. He must have asked fifty questions. Have everything would work. It was great and they re. He's such an intelligent man is knowledge of football of courses is superb and at the end of the day the end of our conversation. He said. I don't want to take the job or not. I try. I try his own. Take the job on golf. Tonal thing. I wanted to take the job. And then he should. I don't know how to take the job he should if i do. I'll be the best analyst ever ever. And i should bill. I said that's all. I want to hear because i don't want this to be a halfway house for you. Guys get outta coaching and come back into coach right. We should hold much so if you haven't gotten your coaching jollies it. They're not out of your out of your body. This means too much to the rest of us. And that's when he said what he said about he'd be the best ever and of course. It was a part of me that knew that he had to go back to coaching at some point. Of course that happened in. Oh three when he began to coach the cowboys for he would he would have been terrific agree because that's the one you know. Obviously madden is one of the all time greats attic because he talked in a language that people completely understood in a from folksy to plane to just just described that describing. The obviously collins has that gene in him as well. The way that you could just describe something and it doesn't sound like you're it filled with jargon it's just normal plain english that makes sense you know and i think bill would have been great that with mad. Doing they make it fun to make not only interesting. But there's a. There's a a a lightness to to as well as none of the you know the three technique in you know the wide not when you get into that too but you need you gotta come away from that sub and see the bigger broader picture and. I've been fortunate with john and chris over the last almost twenty years. Now don't Doesn't get any better than that and they. You know what it is a rich. It's communication those guys. Know how to communicate. They know how to connect with the audience. And that's why you know. John just he understood. What was he understood. What what it means to listen to somebody. I mean to me. I've always when i enjoy myself from obama. Lister a i wanna. I wanna make sure that i'm well what i'm saying is interesting. Informative point with with me as as as viewer. So you try to put yourself in the viewers position. What does he need to what does he. What does he have to know. What's fun to know what's different And you're trying to of flip the very little bit to think of yourself as a listener as well as a communicator. Right and then talk about things that you know in again normally Or plainly i guess would be the way to put it in you know madden. You had a seat next to him. Hearing the way that he would communicate. You know the the thing that i will always live with me isn't from his game but from his pro football hall of fame speech about the busts talking to each other. It's just was. It was such a fan thing to say like you know and you know they talk. What do they talk about when the lights go out. And then one of the last lines he said. It's gonna be having one of those busts in there talking forever and ever talking about whatever and that was like almost tree and you know what i mean like. That's yeah i miss him. I miss that guy but obviously you. And he's he's one of the scores people ever. I mean look at john larger than life and he's scuttled the sound affection of boom and the whole thing but people don't understand this is a man who knows a lot about a lot and am i seven years with john. I mean we had some great great times and most of them dealt with like dinners or discussions. We had about things other than football. We spent enough time on football. We got it. We knew it. And we're doing a game every week but john could discuss. Anything is very curious man very of course going around the country. That's what he always wanted to do. He he loved. You know stopping in the coffee shop in goodland kansas and get another people and that's That's i think. Part of the reason john was able to connect as a communicator. With like every demographic every part of the country. Well i'm gonna finish up with you the way i'm planning to finish up with all the other interviews for for this ten part series of just getting started on nfl voices and broadcasters and it's the best piece of advice she received in your career what what was it in. From whom would you say. Well i would say it's kind of it's it's a little odd away but i'll never forget. I loved kurt gowdy as a broadcaster luck and i got to do the nineteen seventy two world series with him when i was doing the cincinnati reds and we won the pennant and actually had met kurt when i was in college and he was doing the red sox and i i played a tape for him as training so he knew about me..

"Here. How how did you get to monday night. Out of that chair appear and then obviously the rest is history from that. Now there are two people i really have to. I talked about jack quinn. Early auto hy-vee to the white islanders and jacqueline was thought of him as my trampoline. He gave me the break. He gave me the break to get into the business and everybody said oh you you know would happen anyway. I don't know if it would have happened rich. You gotta get that initial breaks. So i go back to win. And then they go forward to nineteen eighty six to dennis swanson. Dennis wasn't came over and took over for knowledge and ran. Abc's sports orly running sports and news but arledge it's been ninety. Five percent of his time and news is kind of over here. Running by itself. Gifford was doing the games with oj simpson. And joe. namath. In those years monday night football keith was college football. I'm doing the number two game. I'm doing monday night baseball. Some beautiful play. Dennis wants a man. I'd never met takes over in january of eighty six and two days later. It's announced that. I am going to be the new play by play man on monday night. Football what that came out of nowhere that came out of note for me and then he was a very big college football fan and he had seen my work over a number of years and he said he said you just you make the game exciting for me. So i'm going. You never know who's listening. So he's watching a number of college games for years and he said i want you in the booth. I want you doing the play by play on monday night. Football and i'm going to move frank to analyst and it'll be a two-man booth i Wow know every. I thinking this is actually very nervous thinking damn you know. I really haven't followed the nfl that closely number do monday night. Football and frank was to make the change at first but then agreed to it. And we wound up doing eighty sixties together and then. We added dan beard orphan. Nineteen eighty seven to make it a three man booth and we danced that. Dan says the trio through nineteen ninety. Seven so i had twelve seasons with with frank damn lasted through ninety eight twelve with with dan as well. Those were good times. Those were great times we were. I don't understand we're trying to save monday. Night flipped over. The show began to leak a little bit. I think it sort of came back in the late eighties. To the in that we have different there had different iterations of it until it went over to. Espn in two thousand six. But that's that's how it happened. It happened with swanson putting me in that role. I was not reluctant to take it. But i was nervous as a cat and in fact in the first game that i did regular season was The giants at dallas and bill parcells on one side line. Tom landry on the other side line. It's monday night. Football and i was so nervous i welcomed people to the nineteen seventy six football season and then i caught myself. I looked at fragmentation was already been a long year.

"Around to you. Finally getting to the sport which is amazing. You know obviously you know your your baseball career got you into national broadcasting and then obviously you called so many games on the national level including the famous earthquake game but also the miracle on ice is something that is with you forever but you are legitimately the voice of the nfl and have been for a very long time. How did you get to that chair out. Well in hawaii again. I go back to doing five games a weekend for high school and a college game for three years so by the time i left hawaii i have probably go under fifty football games and i call them all the football games. When i was a student at arizona say so truly cold like two hundred football games. By the time we get to the cincinnati reds. Who let me when the season was over. Do a couple of regional games. Football games for nbc. So i actually did. In october of seventy one on point to point telecast. I did buffalo at minnesota and two weeks later. His kirk gatty was tied up with baseball. I did buffalo at the jets so my first two. Nfl games were in nineteen seventy-one going just to to the whole market. They're actually the road. Markets visa was blacked out in the home cities at that point. Who's in the booth. We johnny ovalles. Part was johnny morris the wide receiver for the bears. Who still owns a lot of those records of you. Hearing talking about johnny when we do a barren bears game is because johnny go away back and then a guy named dave casiraghi the second game with me but what happened was when i leave. Cincinnati after three is one of the reasons are the primary reason is a go to san francisco. They triple my salary. So that's number one but number two. The giants were willing to let me read. Miss games during the football season at the end do football games on our regional basis. So seventy four. I did about eight or nine. Regional games for nbc. And then we couldn't make a deal for seventy five. We're talking about adults. Use like the difference between like seven hundred fifteen thousand bucks game as ridiculous as it sounds. And i went to. Cbs for a year and that led to in seventy six when abc started. Monday night baseball. They called me. And i wound up doing the big game which led to be being an abc full-time for thirty years. And i eventually wound up doing the number. Two game on college football behind jackson malaysia seventies and early eighties and that led to the nfl at eighty six along route of way that the that i got. They're doing some regional. Nfl games in the early seventies of college games between seventy seven and eighty five and then to monday night football for twenty years beginning at eighty six so few strands to pull on here. So does that mean. There is a cbs. Sports blazer in your in your past al. Did you ever get one of those. I'm not sure. I got one and certainly would not have kept it because don rookie tonight with the only guys. Nineteen seventy five. Who did not get a postseason assignment and we were. We didn't even get the sun bowl. And don i talked about that through the as everybody else on. His staff wound up getting an assignment. It was. You know the one thing. I do remember that the cbs years. I mike partners at your was the late wayne walker. Johnny united game johnny. And what was that. Like johnny marr. Johnny morris now at cbs game with him. And then i wound up doing like last five games of that season with angstrom and we have a glanced we love and hank been fired by the chiefs. He goes to cbs. We do you know they were moving partners around left and right so Painful four or five games at the end of the season and then hanged goes back to coaching the saints wonderful man. I loved hankins There's nobody who could. Who could tan more easily than angstrom used to be sending out by the pool with bear grease on one of those Tin foil reflectors. But he was the beauty. What was it doing. The game with the united states was he was he good at it was he was he. He was okay. You know first of all i've made. Wow i couldn't believe when the game johnny and you kidding me but he was. He was fine to work with but he was. You know he didn't have a lot of experience. I'm not sure. Johnny did more than one or two seasons of some regional games with him but the interesting thing that one game i did. We united states in. The seventy five season was new orleans at oakland and i was living in the bayer talk shows during the giants and i drove over to go to the raiders. Practice in alameda during the middle of the week. And that's the first time i met john mad and i sat at john madden's office in one thousand nine hundred seventy five and he was a big baseball fan so he's talked a lot about baseball. Listen to the giants you new my work and then we talked about. We talked about everything how much we love trap travels with charley by steinbeck and then john talked about the fact that one day what he wanted to do as you know get a camper. Just go around the country. So of course. He coached his coaches the raiders. He wins a super bowl. He has the best record of any coach. Industry percentage wise to coach channel four seasons. And then he didn't quite get that camper but of course the battlecruiser and that's how the country talking about the madden cruiser a time is the madden camper first before is the mad cruising and it's about campus. Exactly what it was and he. He would be at the wheel but john lie. That's the first time that john We saw actually the irregularly use for We became partners between two and eight nine. Seven wonderful wonderful sees okay so a be doing the baseball games with abc. And obviously you said college football You meet you meet keith jackson. What what was what was he like. I'll walk me through the voice of college football For all those years after obviously when you first met him he wasn't that but he became that yeah here on. Don't forget what happened with cheese. Everybody forgets this Certainly antibody A certain age is when monday night. Football started he. Was the original play by play announcer so monday night. Football nineteen seventy keith. Jackson howard kosho and don meredith but ruined from arledge whose concept this was always wanted frank different when it was great and good buddies in new york gifford couldn't get out of his contract to cbs. In one thousand nine hundred seventy. It wasn't until seventy one so key gets balanced from monday night football after one season and he was never after that a really big fan of roone arledge inc and understand why but room attempted to make it up to him by eventually giving keith on game in college football which at that point in crescendo is actually the number one nasty. Before i got there. I got there key to now is send it to the number one role on college football so keith. Because we're doing we're doing games on the same day really. Never did the cross fazal but keith was keith. Had a way with words. That was so unique and so different enemy. One one of the greatest lines. I've ever read keith. Had done a An interview with a student newspaper the university of oregon toward the end of his career. And it's acuity and they talk about keith. You'd on the olympics. And you did monday night football. You've done all the great college football games. Baseball in the world series is other any more goals and key. Sansa was just one. I don't want to die in the airport parking lot..

"Actually, on Sunday night that she full statement from her publicist, quotes from her partner, Lance O'Brien, that he had held her. In her final moments it was, you know, really touching, sad stuff. She collapsed on Christmas Eve while walking her dogs. We didn't know why at the time and it was a it was not covert related. We're told, But then she was in the hospital on a ventilator for the past few days, and it was not looking good. And Sunday night, we were told that she had died and then Monday, the her publicist retracted that Said that she had not died that Lance O'Brien, her partner, got a call from the hospital that that she was alive. Well, I mean, it was very strange. And there we were told at the time that she was still in very grave condition. And then we found out that she had died last night. And what seems to be the kind of miscommunication at least what we're piecing together is That her partner was in fact in the hospital on Sunday, and he was allowed to see her, which is very rare here in Los Angeles because of covert and everything you can't go in the hospitals, But he was given an exception. He went to see her and he did hold her and he thought that that was the end. But he was mistaken. And then there was a queue miscommunication with the publicists, so ultimately she did pass on DCI. It was a urinary tract infection that turned into a bigger infection, and she had had some problems were told with hepatitis before, which is why that turned into Was such a bad infection on that. She died last night. Oh, my goodness, Known for her role in a view to kill, And she was also on that seventies show, too. She was she and that's where I think you know, most people might know her from at least recently. She started in Charlie's Angels in the last season of Charlie's Angels in 1980. That's when she got her big break. She came in and was on that and then eventually went onto a view to a kill in 1985 on various other things. I mean, a bunch of different things, and then that seventies show was they think one of the most recent things that people might know her from Late night Talk show hosts making a change recently because of the change in the surgeon. Coronavirus cases. Yes. Oh, those coronavirus cases in Los Angeles. I mean, it's just out of control in California, Los Angeles, especially And so production was being halted in many different TV and film sets and things like that, and the host, which had come back, they were in studio in New York and Los Angeles. And then now because of this production pause, and Serge, Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden, they went back to their homes. They're back in their basements or wherever they've been filming their shows from Previously they have to go back because it's just not safe to be in the studio and to be around a lot of people. And then we got the news today that the Grammys air being postponed that they were supposed to go on January 31st. Because of the hospital's being overrun and just, you know, it's just not the time to have an award show like that. So it's almost like we're back in March, where things air are rolling back to that we're seeing, you know, lots of things canceled. Lots of things, paused. It's just really not a great time. "This is just kind of one of those seasons. you'll forget about the chargers beat the chiefs. It was a it was just in herbert versus chad. Henny the chiefs obviously Locked up ruin seed. Herbert throws for three. Oh two and three touchdowns and at the moment that we're taping. Were waiting for word on anthony lynn. Obviously there west coast in their three hours behind where we are on the east. I mean we. We've we've talked about this. It seems like all the ts are that they are going to move on from win. I don't know if that's the right. Move for them i i. I don't think it's necessarily fair at this point. But we'll see what they do. They finish seven seventy nine in a year where they just let a lot of games Slip away at the end against a very quality opponents. Yeah gary i think some of those games that slipped away in the final minutes which could have changed the team's fortunes those will certainly be a factor in the charges evaluation of lynn. But what. I also think should be weighted strongly and we talked a little bit about this last week on. The show is just how well herbert played. He came into the nfl. He wasn't billed as a sure thing. He's played significantly better in the nfl than he did at oregon and i think lynn should get credit for how quickly he came along in a season when he wasn't expected to start as soon as he did the The rate of the broncos played a played a really fun game. I don't know if anyone bother watching it. But it was really exciting. Ending raiders getty touchdown and a two point conversion in the final thirty seconds to To win here. And they block of brain mcmanus and his sixty three yarder at the end of the game. Raiders did their bummed out. They didn't make the playoffs. I think there was some growth there. I think there's a lot of work to do with that defense. I and maybe i mean look maybe you get one impact. Pass rusher in that sort of changes what you do at. I think it is easier to build up your pass rush with a single signing that it is to sort of solidify your your secondary with a single signing and they've invested a bunch of the secondary anyway but the on the other end of the drew lock throws for a career high three thirty nine his best game certainly this year. Maybe a maybe first career and the broncos are going to be an interesting spot again with their quarterback where you know. We'll will they won't they..

"They've scored multiple defensive touchdowns in the past. That's probably their path to victory over the bucks and We'll see it. It's it's going to be an organized. Football game saturday night. I think that's what we can say about it. It'll be interesting and we saw chase young videotaped leaving the field. Saying i want brady i. That's when it was that clip was filmed. That's making the rounds. So that should be interesting to see how about matchup. Plays out all right well. Let's let's get a little more optimistic here with With with the browns victory over the steelers browns snap the ridiculous. Playoff drought here. First time since two thousand two they will be going back and look i a as you know. Jenny is anyone who listens to the show knows. I i'm just sort of a cynical jerk. And i. I am not moved emotionally in a positive way by anything that happens in football baker. Mayfield on the clinching. Run running this game On on the third and short where the browns had to have it to to To seal the it was just kind of a perfect way to end it for brown seem. That's been through a lot of difficult situations due to the covid protocols or the last couple of weeks and it was just a really nice moment it really wise mayfield has been through a lot in his career. His young career so many coaching changes different offenses. Different play callers. He looked amazing his first year. Then he looked like you're grasping and you know it's just been a non linear path for him and so for him to make that play one week after you know they have the chance to beat the jets on the fourth and one and they can't and now he makes the run that seals the game. I think that was pretty satisfying for him. And kind of a perfect moment for the fan base it was it was very cool would have been nice to see that on on sunday night. Football or something like that. The mason rudolph kept him in. This game kept the steelers in this game he was. I mean he wasn't fantastic. But i think he's sort of overachieved for what we expected from from mason rudolph in this performance here They did pull to within two and missed a two point. Conversion maybe should have drawn a flag. But we won't get too bogged down in that but Look the big thing is we're going to have a playoff rematch. Here they're gonna meet for the third time. In pittsburgh on sunday night the question's gonna be can baker mayfield sort of handled the full fledged steelers defense. That puts a lot of pressure on quarterbacks and mayfield has not had very good Statistics when pressured in in twenty twenty. Even if he had a a a nice segment of the season here. Yeah it's an interesting match up for that reason and also you know this. It just always funny to me when teams playing week. Seventeen and then they play the next week..

"He is a free agent. This upcoming offseason. Todd velde is. I don't think he was going to get any offers anyway. He certainly not getting getting offers after that. I don't know if the eagles and the pre signing him what but that was That was unfortunate. His tape was good on top of that. He just sort of became a punchline which is not really fair to him. But that's kinda what the consequence ended up being the other thing is we know what's going on with carson wentz. Will they be able to move that contract we'll see But you know all all reports that carson wentz is kinda done with. Doug peterson jalen hurts. Is i don't think you're you're itching. Jalen hurts in stone as your your quarterback of the future even twenty twenty one. He struggled badly in the dallas game. He struggled really badly in this in this loss in this game. I think it's perfectly reasonable to go into two thousand twenty one with him as your week one starter but this is not something where this guy has really sewn it up i mean i would have been at the very least quite curious to see how he reacted against a good defense. We needed a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Yeah and i think. That's where the most puzzling part comes in is. What were the eagles doing. And that's what we were saying the beginning areas. They haven't given a satisfying answer. And it's hard to kind of understand their thinking. They're also if you have any idea that hurts. Might be in your plans moving forward. I mean he was just draft last year. So he's in your plans on level then. I think this decision making does create a problem in the locker room. It creates a problem with hurts. All you had to do was look at the sideline shots of his face. He was totally bewildered. It seem i don't know if the players were leading on the plan or not. That's what i'm most curious about. Where did the decision come from. Why did they do it. And how is it being explained to the players because you have a guy like jalen hurts. Who played for top college programs when a lot through a lot in college career. You know benched at halftime of national championship game played for another top programme. Was really this picture of you. Know doing what was best for the team and also being ultimate competitor. Now you're you're pulling him from gain that he still has a chance to win and so in terms of what's next in philadelphia which is it's already a messy situation. You don't know what wants his future. Is peterson won a super bowl but hasn't had a good year. There's a lot of questions about what's next for this team. And this only makes those questions more. I don't know it just makes them more pressing for the locker room. If you're a player on that team has to be wondering. Do i wanna be a part of this organization. When there isn't a clear plan. Yeah i mean. I think there might have been like the number where you could kind of say okay. Well they're going to get healthy next year and they'll be back to the old eagles. It really doesn't feel like that right now. And i can't imagine what the feeling is within that locker room As far as the two thousand twenty season goes on the football team. The team without a name has won the nfc east. They will host tampa on saturday night. It again the offense is unwatchable The defense comply and they're going to be on that That mucky field on on on on a saturday night against the box. And we'll see if something wacky happens but You know i it..

"Excuse me, um, and nine late window games, and then you got the one Sunday night or which we debated this last week. And I can't believe that it's the case. The Eagles and the Redskins are the Sunday Night game. That's the game that got flexed in. I know that the Redskins are locked into school, maybe Washington football team formerly known as Redskins are locked into the wind there in lose, they're out scenario. Nothing that happens early in the day can change that. They go in with a one game lead in the NFC s least division. The Cowboys and the Giants are playing each other. Whoever wins that game. If the watching football team loses, that team will take the playoff spot. If the Redskins win. It doesn't matter who wins that previous game two Cowboys. Where the Giants, the Washington football team, We've got two playoff spot, so I get it for one of the two teams. Wow, the six and 10 a says, Give me the 69 going into the game Washington football team is the team that can win their way into playoffs with a sub 500 record. I understand their line of thinking why they do it the way they do it. I just think putting a better football game with Mork Quality team is more important than one of at least one of the team has to be when you're in lose, you go home. I don't agree with their line of thinking, but we'll go through them from the Sunday night game up or the first one o'clock kickoff game in the first time I list here is dolphin bills, which is pretty damn good. I would absolutely have preferred to see that. Then the Eagles and the Washington football team as the Sunday night game will go to all the games will go to all the bull action will talk heavily about to yesterday's two games. The Alabama easily handling of Notre Dame, and he upset of Ohio State would just infield going nuts. You know, I've been telling you about Justin peeled for months now. And I will be justifiably excited over the course of the show tonight because he showed everyone why he should be the second pick in the draft with his game last night against Clemson, in which He outplayed the guy who's gonna be the number one pick in the draft. And that would be Mr Lawrence now. I'm not so crazy had as good a game as anyone could possibly hope. I'm not gonna tell you. He elevated himself above Trevor Laurence, and there's one narrative out there scenario out there going around that fields could actually be capable of jumping up to the number one spot as big a fan of Justin Fields as I am. I'm not crazy enough to buy into this scenario. Just one of many things will be talking about tonight. You tell me what it is. You want to talk about week 17 in the NFL, the college football playoff action. N b A. I work with you Get on my telephone lines 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. It's the Saturday Night Get together.
