The Bailout of SBV
"Dave McCormick, as I read superpower in peril. I was very fascinated by the Bridgewater backstory on ESG, DEI, your tenure there, ray dalio, China. But I noted that you were making the round with Hank Paulson when 2008 collapse occurred. And I sat in the oval with W and 5 other talk show hosts on the last Wednesday of his presidency. He was explained to us the Sunday afternoons of 2008, were always spent doing something crazy that he swore he'd never do in his life, but they had to do it because 2008, we were at the brink of the collapse of the financial system. Are we back on that cliff? This week or did we were not close to that clip? What Dave McCormick thing? You know, I've learned to not be too confident. Is the honest answer about these sorts of things? I think the response particularly on the liquidity that's available across the bank system should go a long way in terms of giving some confidence. I think that we'll probably see some other banks that go through the washer here. But so I think if I had to guess, I think we probably averted any near term disaster. The bigger problem is where I started, which is you've got this low interest rate environment for a long, long time, and people are making a bunch of investment decisions based on that. And now you have a rapid rise in inflation, which is leading to a rapid rise in interest rates, which is creating a mismatch. And that mismatch in our banking system that mismatch across our economy, that's not gone away.

Caring for the Forgotten Generation
"What a great area of ministry, you know, so often we think of the elderly as maybe, you know, they live their lives and we think of them of having family that cares for them until the very end, and that's true of many, and that's a good thing. But so often, like I said, 1.3 million reside in nursing homes. I think there's another million people who are in assisted living facilities. So that's a lot, 2.3 million people. And there's something like 35% of the elderly who will be in one form or the other of that kind of living environment. And I guess the right place to start is so often those older folks are neglected. So what got you into this ministry? Would you admit it's kind of funny because I had no idea how I got into this. That's usually the lord then, right? Yes. I have a mechanical carpentry kind of a background. And so I knew that that's what I would be doing for the church, maybe building buildings and stuff like that. But somehow I ended up, I actually heard an interview on a radio program. They were looking for volunteers at a nursing home. And so I went and interviewed and they said, would you bring people out for the church service on Sunday afternoon? We have 5 pastures that rotate through the months and bring them out, let them sit through the service and then when they're done, take them back to their rooms. And so that's what I did. But after about a month or two of this watching the hunger inside their hearts for what Jesus offers, I began to pray and ask God, what can be done? What can I do to help these people grow closer to Jesus? And that's how it began. You know, it's interesting because even our experience, you know, we kind of fell in that direction because my assistant patty Watkins had said, hey, do you want to sign up to do this? And that'd be great to expose the kids to that. Now the reality is your experience will be all over the map. I remember one woman that we encountered, she was dressed to the hilt, and she was sitting on the edge of her bed, mentally sound as could be. We walked in and she said, it's so good to see you. Thank you for coming and visiting me. It was sweet. She was lucid. She had all her faculties and what was so sad about her situation, she said her two sons had put her in this nursing home and that they rarely come to visit her anymore. That broke my heart because she was capable of so much. I mean, she was older, but she was all there. And I thought, man, my heart just broke for her that they're not even stopping by to visit her. And I just remember that experience because I felt like, wow, she needs people to stop in and say, hi, that's all she needed. Yes, about 80% of the residents receive less than one visit a month from family or France. That's really heartbreaking.

What am I going to hear from Rihanna? It's going to make me go, oh my God, it's so great that she's doing the halftime show. I don't know. They have to couple her with somebody else and obviously there's going to be somebody else on stage with her, but her alone, Rihanna alone, I don't know, not to mention she said no a year or two ago because she was siding with Colin Kaepernick. Parents are raising concerns about this common practice among Montgomery county, public school students. A parent of mcps students says when there's no bus or public transportation for a way games, teams rely on parents or older students who can drive younger students. Kristen erdheim expressed her concern at last week's county school board meeting, highlighting her daughter's experience. Once my daughter was licensed, she assumed that driving role. She wasn't always comfortable doing it, but she was a captain and felt responsible for her teammates getting to away games. One of her friends actually got into an accident, driving teammates home from an away game. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this situation could have potentially been avoided. Do we really want an accident to happen to some of our student athletes before changing the way we transport our athletes to away games? Let's not be reactive, but proactive. "Killer in laguna Woods, you may not know about. Yesterday afternoon, a 60 year old Asian man, that's the only description I have from the Los Angeles Times, stood up in a luncheon honoring a former pastor at a Taiwanese Christian church in laguna Woods, which is not far from my old home in Orange County. They were welcoming back for a luncheon, Jerry Chen, excuse me, I want to get that Jerry Chandler's the fellow gave the quote the former pastor's name is here somewhere I can't find it, but Tom Kramer, who is the head of the presbytery of Los ranchos. Again, I used to be a member of this Presbyterian. Kramer did not know if the pastor was harmed in the shooting, a pastor clobbered the gunman as he tried to reload with a chair and a bunch of the so called older victims. They were all in their 60s. Those not shot tackle them in hog tied in, but it's a 60 year old Asian man is the killer there. In Harris county, Texas, the more traditional weekend shooting, two young men shooting at each other, wounding three and killing two at a Harris county flea market. At 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. So guns are everywhere, The Wall Street Journal, however, wrote about the particular evil of the buffalo shooting. There is a culture of white supremacy in the United States and people need to understand not large, but it definitely evil and it's dangerous because it attracts the unbalance like this 18 year old this was pure evil said Erie county sheriff Garcia in an app summary of the mass murder at a cyber market in Buffalo writes The Wall Street Journal. "I had never seen the second half of the film. It Turns out, the movie came out in a two VHS box set and I, for some reason, had only ever seen the first tape. My dad doesn't remember a second take either, And why would you need one? The first half makes perfect sense on its own. Here's the plot. It's a movie about a woman named Maria, who was sent to the countryside to babysit a giant family of Children with a mean dad. The Vonn traps Maria shows up bubbly fun and teaches them to sing and play and be kids while against the wishes of their father, But the singing wins them over. They sing together as a family and finally at a party. The kids sing a beautiful song for the guests Farewell. And after that, Maria having successfully fix the family Leaves, just like Mary Poppins did when she fixed that family, and that's the end of the movie. I had very clear, fond memories of the goatherd puppet show and the scene in the gazebo where Lisa was the oldest daughter secretly met with the mailman. She was in love with, and they sang and danced, and it was so romantic. I had no further questions about any of the characters. So when I learned that there were 70 more minutes to the film, I didn't bother going to look for them. The sound of music was a full, complete and wonderful artifact from my childhood. I didn't want to taint it with Nazis. But when my coworker Lena, who's producing this week's show and is a musical theater fan, which I most definitely am not when she found out I still hadn't seen the whole thing. It seemed heretical to her. She couldn't let it stand. So we watched it together over the Internet one Sunday afternoon. And I prepared to have a childhood memory either slightly enhanced or completely ruined. Before we started. She had me predict what was going to be in the second half. I want based up and this is based on my childhood memory. And just like what I would like to see you is it's the second half is just focused on my favorite two characters. Lisa and my Hotmail man. I want to see their courtship and and then they get married, and that's the end of the movie. We hit play and started at the very beginning started with apart I know, and the first half was more or less the simple, sunny movie I remembered seeing the kindly and our nuns come on screen early on, was like recognizing teachers I had in elementary school. Because Ethel so little that you could be one and a quarter. There you go. There you go. Okay, because we talked earlier and I've gotten a couple e mails this week. Of people that gave drug adult of human drugs to their dog and kind of had a bad consequence. And so it may lead me to leave. Since you're gonna be on today Launched a kid, Can you give us a list? Of what, Like one for dogs. One for cats off the huge know knows that human drugs should never be given two dogs or cats. You got us two lists. I would say, um, probably all of them what it is that it's a seriously risky business. That truck doses are often different. Even in human drugs that are commonly used in dogs and cats. Okay, And honestly, everything is way more toxic to cats. So cats a capture, missing one of the detoxification and times in their liver, so basically Everything will poison a cap. Oh, okay. Um, but really, I just think there's not really a safe way to kind of go about it. I've seen Everything from tea tree oil to marijuana to, um For a guy who gave his his friend gave his dog and a leave after hunting and so he gave his dog to leave, which perforated. The dog's intestines ended up at the emergency hospital during the During the surgery. They touched the dogs, pancreas by accident, and the dog woke up diabetic. My self and the dog was lucky to wake up after them Anything, Okay, so basically It's just such a hazardous thing to think about when it comes to medications. That's probably one of the biggest causes of poisoning and dogs and cats with people trying to use their own drugs on their path. Okay, because they think, you know. Well, you know. Gosh, this this drug helps me open up my airways and breathe. Maybe I'll give some to my little dog has changed to be having trouble breathing. Okay? Or my dogs give this and I'm giving Exactly Rarely rarely, if ever, a good idea. I just wouldn't do it ever, ever never know that we watch. A lot of dog owners have been brought up on aspirin. Forgive me dogs and like baby aspirin. You know what your thoughts and dip you still never ever Well, you just have to be aware that their side effects everything. So when I was in vestibule, one of my roommates found an old lab by the side of the road and brought it home. And she's been giving him two aspirin a day because he seemed give me And then one day he got into it with one of the cats. S so there was this big brawl going on in the basement. I ran downstairs. The cat had just stuck up in the ear with a claw. Okay. It looks like a crime scene because of the effect that aspirin has on the platelets. Aspirin makes you bleed, right, right. So it's very exciting. So you know, there's so many natural alternatives for anything that you might grab in a crisis. Pretty much. The only thing that safe to use would be something like Benadryl. Okay, but even there, you have to make sure that it is that the only ingredient is Dyson Hydra mean. Because there's like Added Real cold and flu and Benadryl, you know, Sinus, whatever on so there can be other drugs in there that did make the product much more dangerous. Ah, that's a good daughter. Would I don't take better grow myself. You don't have allergies or anything. I said, everything I have been. I just keep better on handy in case I get stung by a bee that's like a fact that some people have used it for would be hives or bee stings or something like that. But the thing too, is Um You know, you could always call the emergency hospital just as the person who answers the phone. You know is this you know, X y Z is happening to my pet. This is what I want to do. Okay? And you know, they might say year day or they might say You know, Slap your hands and come into the emergency hospital. You even even with something as simple as, um, Savor dog ate something indigestible and you want to get hydrogen Prock side. It has to be food. Great hydrogen peroxide. And there there is a toxic dose. Look at some point, if you've given two or three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide, and your dog has not vomited. Then you go to the emergency hospital. They have other methods that will work. But you can't just keep giving giving high share peroxide know what is kind of the adult is 3% hydrogen peroxide correct. Okay. So like your father can pound dog. What would.

"Sunday afternoon. Are you ready? The Yeah. I'm ready. The timing of this kind of Ah, snowstorm. You know, this time of year is where you know, there's a lot of people that are anti snow thrower. You know, they don't want to get a big machine or whatever. And they always kind of play it out to, you know, See how it goes because we You know, we haven't had these consistent snowy winters for the past few years. That's how that we got. The last few days really kind of motivates people. Tonto get snow throwers and what kind of cool about the technology That's out there now, Bob, There's a couple of different makers of battery operated snow throwers. That I would put up against any gas unit that's out there. You never have to put any gas or oil in it. You literally recharge it like a Cordless drill. And it's throws the snow like a son of a gun. And then when you put it away, you put it away. You don't have to worry about it. Just got charged battery. Are they more expensive? The single stages. One manufacturer actually their U. S headquarters are in Naperville called Ego EG O, and they are around the same Christ as a gas counterpart on the single stage. And we've been selling the heck out of them, and I've gotten great feedback from people that are really happy with Florence. Everybody is still really shaken by this display. Eins fire that happened Wednesday. Horrible story. And now we know that it was probably caused by a space heater. What people need to know about space heaters, Luke. Okay, so they are an effective way to take a chill out of a room. It's when used correctly, they are safe to use to You know, if you've got a room that's cold, as opposed to turning up the thermostat on the entire home, then they're good that I think that they're safe to use, but you can never plugged them into an extension cord They typically come With about 35 ft worth of cord. The whole idea is to be able to plug it in. Pull it away from anything that's flammable. So you don't want it to be next to Ah, coucher chair or curtains or anything like that. They all have anti tip technology, meaning that if they tip over, they shut off. The heat source anyway shuts off. The fan may continue to blow to cool the heat source, but that's very important. If you've got an old old heater, you know, there's a lot of people that still have these really old space heaters from maybe 10 20 years ago. Just throw it away and buy a new one. Because the technology now and how the housings are built are so much better and so much safer and I can't stress enough that you just cannot use these unattended, meaning that Lemon and run up the grocery store real quick and you know the fan of the You know the heater site. You gotta turn it off. You just have to, and there's a lot of common sense that goes in there. It's a tragic, tragic story that You know, Accidents do happen and my heart goes out to that family and you've just got to use common sense using these things. And for sure, listener questions some text this morning, Lou, we have a circular chrome faucet handle in our shower. The chrome surrounding it has some light scratches. How can I remove them? It's the light scratches are kind of embedded into the finish itself. There's not much you can do. You can try something as simple as a product called naval jelly, and you can apply that to it and then just use a nata unaggressive scrubbing pan. Maybe, you know you can buy these sponges that have a delicate just a small texture like a plastic scrubbing pad would be the best thing to use. Put the naval jelly on there. Let it sit there for about 10 minutes and then try and wipe that away. If their surface scratches on the finish of the chrome, it may come out. But if they're embedded in the steel The only thing you'll be able to there is replace the excursion, but trim piece there from that, boss. It Other question for Mr Fix it, uh, this about a humidifier. This person says, um, If it's on the furnace is not dreaming. I can't hear it. Does that mean it's not working? If I said it from or humidity that I hear it? But if I leave it on the windows, get water around them. Um, I don't even understand the question. I hope you have an answer for this, Luke. You they have. Ah, they have an automatic whole house, humidifier and whatever they have the setting, and they don't hear the water running. That could mean that the setting of the humidity you have in your home is enough. Here's the thing with the really, really cold weather we have right now. You don't want excessive humidity because that's when you'll see the water on the inside of the windows. If you have more than 30% humidity in your home right now, you probably will see water beats on the inside your window as the temperature drops outside. That's where the community inside. It's so important, However, your home holds it more when it's colder outside. So the way to understand this is you can buy a small, humid A staff at the hardware store. 10 bucks 12 bucks. Put it in a room in the center of the room and see what the humidity level in that room is. It takes about 24 hours for this thing to register, And if all of a sudden you say Hey, it's at 35% or it's a 30%. It's good. Just because you don't hear the water might be because you're at the right something If you turn it up, and now you go to 40%. Well, then it's like you're in a rainforest, and you don't want that because that can cause damage to the windows Long term. I'll tell you, Lou, you are. I think you're doing this professionally. Someday. You're good. Here's another question for Mr Fix it, Daniel from the Northwest side. Go ahead, Dan. Good morning, Everyone move. Quick question. Um, Mike deck. What do you recommend? After shoveling the snow off the deck to lay down on the next floor, their deck panels, direct man. Salt or sand. I'll let you take away from there. With the deck. You gotta be careful. But you also want to make sure you put some type of ice melt product on there because you don't want to fall. All right. You got a couple of options to clear it away like that. There's a really good product. This would be the best thing to.

Oh, my I didn't know there was, you know, we have an office and I heart podcast office in West Hollywood now. Yes, There's like a whole staff of people over the do nothing but podcast. Well, yesterday, they gave away their the I Heart radio podcast awards. And we were We were winning. No, no, we're not. We're not when the thing let me ask you this because you mentioned it. The The title of it, Death and life. That's because we start with the death because that's the coverage we did and that that was the pinnacle. Part of the news on this, but we want to start there and move forward. This is not a biography biography on Kobe. It is There is some biographical information and they're just for context. But This is not a sports program, a sports documentary. This is a news documentary. This starts with the coverage that day You heard the trailer. There. It starts with the audio, the radio chatter. I'll tell you that, like Timlin from KT l. A and he took all that radio chatter that the whole thing and he broke it down for us on this, and he does play by play on it so we can hear squeaking kind of visualize what the pilot might have been going through them now. Vanessa Bryant took to Social media last week, saying that she, out of respect for the family hopes that the Media does not show images of the helicopter does not show images of the crash site that the family does not want to see it, and I was wondering if you had that question when you are included. You have that concern when you were including the air traffic control sound from that flight well, and you have to look back at this again. Everything we're doing on this documentary is factual based. There's no editorial. There's none of that. And if there's any editorial ball, it's from subject matter. Experts Yeah, you know. When we decided to put this together, it will be done like anything else. We do respectfully with compassion, but it was a major news event. This is not something it's bigger than it's bigger than all of us. It had a significant impact on a lot of people. I completely understand and respect for this of Brian's feelings, but you know, we had the same concerns over Whitney Houston's family. Is the same concerns over Michael Jackson's family, and they're all major news people there newsmakers I should say, and that puts him in a spotlight and puts him in a different stratosphere altogether. That's unfortunately a very public life leads to a very public death. Exactly perfectly perfect way to put it, and so Um, I would only say this is that our reputation here and things we've done in the past kind of speak for itself. We're not going to do this and make it salacious. We're not going to start talking about gruesome photos and remains. We're gonna be talking about all of that kind of stuff. It really. We really just mine early touch on all of that only because it's part of the investigation. But we really move into a whole segment about a guy that we interviewed that manages the largest map interactive map of murals. 430 something murals of Kobe around the world. We talked to him and we talked to big boy upstairs. They were friends for more than 20 years. He gives us some great insight about their friendship. And about how Kobe first got to L. A. We talked to the sheriff. He gave us the only interview. He's going to give about the dark about the anniversary because he's being sued by Vanessa, But he took me two weeks to negotiate with him in the county Council, but he sat down and talked with us. So it's all very factual based. And then that's why it's death in life. We started the death, but we move forward. In fact, this clip I wanna play. It's extracted right from the special. This is part of the memorial, you know, and and this is Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant died. A piece of me died. These are looking this way. It's actually been a pretty crazy Uh, I guess we go back to the end of the first half. Really a pretty crazy six or seven minutes of football, maybe total game clock time. In the last two minutes of the first half, the Cleveland Browns were trailing 16 to 3. I implored them to go down and score some points because I have the Browns plus 10. Wager. And they proceeded to drive down the field towards the end of the half and with about a minute 40 to go in the half. I think it was Rashard Higgins, who reached across the goal line on a pass play to try to stretch the ball out and score a touchdown. And instead, the ball was not free. It rolled out of the end zone and the Chiefs. The chief's got the ball back on a touchback. I hate that rule. By the way, I feel like that rule is is dumb. Did. A player can fumble the ball out at the one inch line, and the offense retains possession at the one inch line. But if they fumble it, and it rolls out of the end zone that they lose possession of the football, it automatically goes to the defense that just doesn't compute to me. It doesn't line up. I've always thought the appropriate thing to do would be if it rolled out of the end zone like that. Then it becomes Whatever down, it was And goal from either, like the 15 or 20 Yard line, like the offense gets the ball back. But it's you know, first and goal or second ago, whatever down it was going to be And gold. But like from from the 15 yard line, let's say 20 yard line like I don't think the offense should lose the ball in that situation. That's just my own personal feeling on it. But Cleveland did. The chief's got the ball back. They drove down the field. They tacked on another three points at the end of the half, so pretty crazy end of the half right? They would seemingly About put the Browns away. You know 19 to 3 at the half. It's still a to score game, but you were talking to touchdowns and 22 point conversions. But the Browns were getting the ball to start the second half. So it's okay. You know, maybe they go get some points. They could make it 19 to 10. Well, three plays in Baker throws a pick deep in Brown's territorio. No game over. Well, not so fast. The chief settle for a field goal attempt. And Harrison Bucker misses the field goal attempt points it I believe off the upright. And so So which, by the way, makes two kicks. That bugger is missed today. Inside of 30 yards. He missed an extra point earlier in the game as well. From around 30 yards. Mr Extra point, Mr. Short field goal made one from like 50. But the he misses a field. All the Browns get the ball back, and they drive right down the field and score a touchdown, so the Chiefs were on the verge of the kill shot. I mean, just points there to make it 22 to 3. Is probably in game at that point. That's a three score game. But they miss the Browns go down the field Credit Baker Mayfield. He marches and down the field, and the Browns are now trailing 19 to 10. Now the Chiefs have the ball and there the Chiefs. I'm guessing they're not going to sit at 19 points the rest of the day. Probably The big thing that's happened in this first part of the second half. Is it on the missed field goal? Myles Garrett left the game with an injury. He's questionable to return. That's a material player on the defense for the Browns. Admittedly, I'm doing a radio show and kind of watching this game out of one eye at the same time, so I'm not getting the nuance of everything. Garrett, maybe back in the game for all I know, I'm just telling you what's happened in the game that Garrett left the game on that missed field goal attempt with an injury. Sale that to say that the Browns are covering the 10 point spread right now, 855 to 1 to four CBS lot of you getting in tonight to talk about the Shawn Watson situation. It's a situation that I'm very close to. I'm in Houston. I worked for the Texans flagship. I do the morning show on the Texans flagship. Do the pregame and postgame for the team had for the last seven years. So I'm emotionally invested in this to Shawn Watson storyline. I'm also very fond of to Shawn Watson. I'll put that out there as well. I think he's a He's a great guy. I think he's a great player. And I think he's been more than patient with a team that has seemingly made every decision with the motivation to do the opposite of what's best for two Shawn Watson in a league where if you have a franchise quarterback Every decision you make. Should be made with the question. Is this in the best interest of our franchise quarterback in mind? The Texans have seemingly made every decision. Over the last year or plus. In the opposite of what's in the best interest of the Shawn Watson and that smoke from dish on Watson's camp is only now coming out is frankly, a miracle. Does. It should come out a lot sooner. I think for most players, great players, it would've come out a lot sooner speaks of the patients it to Shawn Watson has there could not be a better football citizen in the NFL, then to Shawn Watson. They promoted Bill O'Brien to general manager. Should just be able to stop right there to list before listing all the things that O'Brien then did. That were complete malpractice. And trading. DeAndre Hopkins is just one of several Brian eventually got fired. But this Jack Easterby guy is still in the building, and that's a big problem. So Dish on Watson. According to Adam Schefter, This is where we are right now, with the dish on Watson situation. Is that, um Schefter tweeted earlier. There's a growing sense from people in and around. The Texans organization that to Shawn Watson has played his last snap for the team. It's early in the off season. There's a lot of time left, but Watson's feelings cannot and should not be underestimated. All right, So that's that's a growing sense from people in and around the Texans organization. That's on the heels of a tweet in which Adam Schefter said one league source connected to the Houston Texans head coaching situation said Saturday Quote. It's gone from the least desirable head coaching opening. To the least desirable head coaching job in the NFL. That's a fact that's how that job is now looked at by everybody. So that's one person's opinion. A league source. I'm not here to be an apologist for the Texans that I promise you. And if you listen to me locally here in Houston, you know that's not the case. This is what I would caution. Anybody who's reading reports like this. Both the ones about Watson and the ones it's. It's basically somebody's opinion about the head coaching situation. Make no mistake. It's not a good job right now because of the dysfunction behind the scenes. But leak source can be anybody. It could be an agent. It could be a current employee of the Texans. It could be a former employee of the Texans. It could be a player. It can be a former player. It can be a commentator. League source. Does what I tell people..
