"66. Hundred days out, he's my friend, Fox Sports soccer analyst, former United States managed teams middlefield, or Stu Holden is joining us. I love which two Holden comes on my show. All right, so I was saying that this is my, this is my concern. So I think this is the most skilled team we've ever had. It is the youngest United States men's national team. I think there's value to youth. They don't have any negative vibes from previous failures. You don't know what you don't know when you're young. You can be reckless, but also hyper aggressive. You don't have legacies to protect. I mean, these guys, they're all like 21, 22, 23, generationally. They all like the same music. They all use the same devices. This has the potential to be an incredibly close knit team. So that's my positive. Does that make sense? Yeah, absolutely. And it does. This team, you think about it. And if you go all the way back to the failure to qualify for the World Cup 2018, the lowest moment in U.S. soccer history from those ashes has come this group of players with almost that feeling that of responsibility of, hey, we need to get this program back to where it was. We're starting from fresh. We're starting absolutely. And forming their own identity along the way. And then you think about within that, there was going to be players from those past failures that Josie altidore is Michael Bradley's that might have been a part of this cycle. COVID came along, no games for a year for the national team. And all of a sudden, Greg berhalter has got this dilemma of what do I do here? Do I still have some of these 30, 32 year olds, or do I just roll the dice and trust this young group and let them figure it out? And that's what they did. Now, it wasn't perfect. They finished third and qualifying.

"He have to be? Because I know what I get from pulisic. I don't know what I get from him. So I would say the question about freya is an interesting one, because you could say, who's the most important player to the U.S. having some success? I could name pulisic. I could name mckenney. I could name Tyler Adams. But Ferrera, and it doesn't just have to be goals with him. This was a game he actually scored four goals in a match against Grenada. But the job of the center forward and Greg berhalter's system. And this is why you have to trust Greg berhalter that he's doing the best that he thinks for the team with the personnel he's got. That position oftentimes you drop a little bit deeper, you try to bring defenders with you to open up space in behind for pulisic for aaronson for Tim wea. So it doesn't always have to be about the goals in the system that we play. France won the World Cup in 2018. Do you know how many goals their striker Olivier Giroud scored in that tournament? Zero. Not a single goal from the number 9 position. So I know we scream and yell and we think, hey, strikers have to score goals. They can do a lot if you have the pieces around that can produce. Our most talented players, as you know, are in the wide areas. We have depth beyond belief we can rotate geo Rena and pulisic and aaronson all these guys. The number 9 position though, you have to be effective, either scoring goals or holding up the ball linking up play. And that's why Ferrer is in the lineup. Not because I think Gregg thinks this guy's going to score 6 goals. Yeah, I don't think the team's complete yet. They can tweak it up until like, yeah, up until the very end. I'm 26 this time as well, the roster. Do you think I don't think it's done yet? No, I mean, September, we're going to find out. We got two games left. The last two games you're going to see the U.S.. We have the game against Saudi Arabia, which will be the last two friendlies. And you're going to get a look, I think you might see this guy Vasquez who scored 14 goals in MLS, striker is a position of your red hot and you got that hot hand. You might work your way into the roster. Okay, it really is amazing. So you got pulisic 23, played Chelsea. You got McKinney's 23 Juventus Sergio desk 21 Tyler Adams 23. He's trying to make me feel old. But I'll throw this at you. And when we went to Brazil, the conditions were daunting. And I think there's an argument to be made, Qatar, it's going to be really warm. And I do think it benefits our youth, we're going to be young, fresher legs, my guess is we're kind of built for these conditions or am I being too patriotic and optimistic? You're right. I mean, one of the interesting things you're going to see in Qatar is these air controlled climate controlled stadiums with these big fans that blow on the field and it was amazing during the summer, it was a 110° out. They played a game inside the stadium, a player took a selfie with a thermometer, and it showed that the temperature on the field was 65°. So it was about a 40° difference from outside to end. Actually, during the winter, the temperature is going to be about LA's in the 70s. One of I think an area where the United States can have a real edge is in sports science and the fact that we invest a lot of money in that. I went to the U.S. practice in Kansas City and they call them red hats, a red shirt 'cause there was the staff around. There was more staff than players. And I'm talking physiotherapist, sports science sports scientists and tracking data and the rest and recovery for these guys. This is going to be the first World Cup where teams do not have to travel outside of one single city. So you're going to go to a game, you're going to come back. You're going to go to a practice you're going to go back. You'll be in the same hotel the entire time. So that means the U.S. is loading up with a game room. They're going to have, you know, all the stuff that these kids, these 20 year olds want. They have xboxes and PlayStations and rest and recovery centers. Hypothetically, chambers. I mean, the U.S. is going to throw big money at that to ensure that they can maybe find an edge that other teams don't have when it comes to investment in that stuff. I think that's where we can find an edge. The world cup for the uninitiated here is a little like two tournament. You have group stage. So our group is England, arguably the best team. I don't think they'll win it. It's England. They're going to expect to win it, but I don't think they will, but I think they're really talent. I think they can play with anybody. And then we have Iran and then Wales, Wales is viewed as the smallest. It's the weakest team. They have one great player, right? Okay, so my feeling is the World Cup becomes two tournaments. There's group stage. I feel like we're the second most talent team. I think we get out of the group stage. Realistic, realistic, and that should be the baseline expectation. Every single World Cup and I would have said that before, but then we didn't qualify for the World Cup. Right. So Greg berl halter again, he was talking to you. He said, we view this as two tournaments. You get through the group stage. It's kind of a slog it out and you find your way, you manage the three games, you're probably rotating lineups to get the best versus each team, your first game is the most important. And then I think Greg, and I would agree. The last game against Iran is also a game you view, we need points out of that one. England, we go in and we try and run it up, and that's the team that we're going to finish first or second. And it will determine who we get in the second match, which would be us paired with the host group, which is Qatar, Ecuador, and then you have the Netherlands in there as well. And I think Netherlands is the team you would want to avoid out of those and maybe you get Ecuador. Netherlands, I think they're back this year. They didn't qualify for the last World Cup. They were in the final in 2010. It should be noted. We all, we all get anxiety, last World Cup, who didn't get Italy didn't make it. Netherlands didn't make it. Think about Italy. How big saw career is. So by the way, Germany's had downswing. Two straight world cups for them. Crazy. So this is not, I really do feel like if you're a soccer fan or me, a casual as I would be called by you indie rocker. But I do believe this is exciting because I feel like there was the Kyle wrote junior stage of soccer where we couldn't compete. Guys didn't play internationally. Then there's the Stu Holden Dempsey. Alexei lawless, some of our guys do play internationally, may not star, but they play. Now we're getting guys that go internationally and are viable scores, stars, stars. Yeah. Those are the three stages in my life. Now, I do not, I think the next World Cup is the one where I sound so patriotic here. I think we're about four years away just an experience, but I think we get out of the group stage. I think we win a game out of the group stage. And I think we're really viable. That is my hope. Again, how does it land for you? What will you see that will concern you? If you see something early and go, uh oh, what would it be? So the game against England is a game where we're going to find out a lot about day after Thanksgiving. Yes, the day after Thanksgiving on probably the best lineup of sports television sound like a company man now, but we're going to have the cowboys Thursday. And then Ohio State Michigan on the Saturday. So look, I think what I worry about with this team is that they are so young. They're fearless. They don't know what they don't know until they see it. And we're going to find out when those bright lights go on and you're on the World Cup and you're the big stage against the Welsh team that is competent. They had a good run at the Euros, not the 2020 version, but the one before that in 2016. And I just, I hope, and I don't believe it is going to be this way, but I hope that I see that look in those eyes that the guys that we belong here. And we're not happy to be here and be happy to be back in the World Cup. And we're these young guys and we play it big clubs, but we're not expected to go far. I think this team when you get to the knockout stages and you get rolling, you pick up some momentum, they have players that play against the best players in the world weekend week out at Barcelona at Chelsea at brucea Dortmund, et cetera. So we have talented players as a team collectively. Did they believe in themselves? And did they not make those little fine margin mistakes at the back or at the goalkeeping position where we might have a little bit of inexperience or guys that aren't playing regularly. That's the thing that concerns me a little bit. As a team ever won the World Cup with poor goaltending. Has anybody ever been bad in the net and you don't have to be great? I'm trying to think here. France had Hugo lauris, Germany had Manuel Neuer 2010 Spain, Devi, I believe it was or E care Casillas. No, I would say

"For a hundred days out from the World Cup and you know when I was a kid I went to England, my mom took the family to England. Okay. And Johan Cruyff was a big deal. This was a long time ago. And Holland, great player. I don't know if it was the World Cup here, but there were my family back there, all in on soccer. They gave me a board game soccer. And then I lived in the Pacific Northwest where I grew up with the sounders. I'm no expert at soccer, but I love the World Cup and I love the United States mansion women's national teams. So it was just one of those things where I will, I can turn some things on and off. Yeah. Right? Like, you ever go to a concert and you're not you're somebody who you're married to a musician. Yeah. But if I don't go to concerts all the time, maybe once a year. Okay. But when I go to a concert, I literally switch my mind to tonight, I'm going to do things that I wouldn't do the rest of the night. The rest of the year. Okay. Like if you go to a weekend music festival, I'm going to be a little looser than I would be the rest of the year. Vacation calling. Yeah. And I kind of feel that was soccer. I am just flip a switch. I will be so in this soccer for three weeks. And you can be a cynic and that's fine, but still holding in a couple of minutes. You know, I want to start this hour with this. I talked about this yesterday on the show that if you in the Liv golf tour, any time in life that you are a disruptor or you take a strong stance on something, a strong action, you have to be prepared for the reaction. So when the live when the golfers from the PGA Tour join the live tour, I support that. And I still do. Our government has a relationship with Saudi Arabia, in my opinion, way too cozy. But it's a toxic region. We feel we need an ally in that region, so there it is. We just signed a new deal with them that is nobody talks about yet. We're outraged with golfers. But I will also defend the PGA and traditionalists engulf with this. They have a right to react to defend their turf and their business to those who disrupted it. And I tell people this all the time. When I left ESPN. And I had a great ten year run ten 11 year run. Great people, right? But when I, when I told them I was going to go to Fox, their rival. This is something I had planned for 6 months. What are they going to do? They wouldn't let me. They still don't let me bring ESPN people on Fox. Now, we have great people. Here's what I don't need to. But as I was building up my guest list for the first 18 months at Fox, it was difficult. But I had planned for it. I knew my strong move would get a strong reaction from their management. So they shut off anybody. Doesn't mean they're bad people. It's business. I get it. But I was prepared for it. I was building up every day after work, trying to build up our guest list and thank God we had a lot of people here and still do that can talk in no sports. So strong reaction or action, get ready for a reaction. So one of the things the NFL is a huge advantage in the Deshawn Watson situation is the NFL is saying we're going to suspend you for a year and find you $20 million. It's a strong action. That's like unprecedented. There's no pushback. There is no support group for creepy men. Armie Hammer in Hollywood was a star. He now sells timeshares. Trevor Bauer, two years baseball out, nobody cares. So they can do the leverage here is all the NFL. Go Google how many times the NFLPA is sued the NFL in one. Let's start with zero. The weakest by far the weakest union in all of pro sports is the players union in the NFL. Baseball umpires arguably have a stronger union than NFL players. NFL coaches have a better union a better pension than NFL players. So the bottom line here is Roger Goodell, what's the pushback? The media is on Roger Goodell's side. An anti creepy man, 30 masseuses is creepy. And by the way, the other owners, they don't like haslam because they guarantee the contract. They rewarded creepy behavior. So NFL owners are on Roger Goodell. So Roger Goodell is a rare situation. He can come in an incredibly harsh punitive sentence, the reaction is the NFLPA suit. So what? I'm not going to win. So it is a rare. There was no value in Goodell going light on this. Go as harsh as possible, protect your brand, this is now moved into not only bad behavior being rewarded, but Roger Goodell has to protect his league, its reputation, himself, his legacy, other owners, what is the repercussion for coming in and even in some eyes over punishing? The media is 95% in Goodell's corner. It could be a hundred. I've yet to see anybody push back in the media. Any reasonable person. So what you're seeing is Roger Goodell saying, we're going to take the strongest action possible. You bring your best reaction and I think it's a 60 mile an hour fastball. There's nothing Cleveland has. In fact, Cleveland yesterday, did you see what happened yesterday? 6 games we won't move. Yesterday to Sean Watson. Okay, 8 and I'll give you $5 million. I'd go to 12 and offer 20 million. I think that's why you have to go to even get Goodell to pick the phone up. Why would he need to? What's the repercussion? What's the pushback? Not a lot of it. All right, now let's talk about something far more joyful. Hundred days out, he's my friend, Fox Sports soccer analyst, former United States managed teams middlefield, or Stu Holden is joining us. I love when Stu Holden comes on my show. All right, so I was saying that this is my, this is my concern. So I think this is the most skilled team we've ever had. "Three points, most importantly, we will discuss quickly. What we've just lived. I'm not sure what we've just lived. I can tell you I'm quite well served I've had a lot of feelings, a lot of emotions. A bit of a roller coaster. That wasn't it. But we emerge unscathed from the wreckage with a win and we will debrief. I want all your questions. I want all of them in the comments producer J dubs in this Spotify green room. I mean, this is a Spotify grooming of national and poor. Let's be candid. He will bring you to the stage. And let's unpick this together in a rational way. There will be no emotions here. There will just be super analysis. Super analysis from a quite drunk rod, who will start with a toast. I want to raise my 12 first birth of the day to dreams dreaming big dreams. If we don't dream big dreams, what do we have? I mean, I bring this in my newsletter courage this morning. Last night I was so stressed about this game. Jersey outer door, I swear, was in my dream last night. We both came out of a nightclub ahead of kick-off, which tells you just how farcical this dream was. In a nightclub. By the way, for detailed individuals, it was the nightclub in pretty in pink where duckman acted like an asshole. That seems not aged. Well, and we both came out of dec club. And I walked up to Josie just as he was with his crew getting into a black Cadillac El Dorado. It was like 1950s. Yes, for those of you who love cars and watch me can move to auctions. The car had the fens. And I just shouted like a boat more than a car. I said, juicy. What's going over the United States and Jersey just rolled his eyes, shook his head and then the motor kind of bubbled into life and he just cruised off to catch the game. I don't know what it meant. We can talk about those dreams. We can also talk about the fact that yesterday I found a wristband, the United States risk band on my arm today during the game. We have never lost when I've donned the wristband, which I did in the second half. At featherstone age tweeted to see Jose Ulta door is your ID. Is your Tyler durden? Isn't you see everybody's Tyler durden? Oh, let's talk about it. Just win baby. We weren't. We bloody one. We will now probably film at the mouth about the joy and the wonder. Tom Wright 12 tweeted the best one of the night can't make the World Cup without breaking some greggs. You know, top line stories get your questions into the comments. JW bring you right up to that stage. Top line questions. The starting lineup, you know, after the embarrassment of the zero shots on goal performance against Panama, there were 9 changes, Musa and ariola, so holdovers until whoops are all the dropped out was replaced by Tim weyer, ten changes for a massive massive game after, you know, just the more changes than a David Bowie gig. Youngest starting lineup ever, we tweet that hours if we celebrate it. Average age 22 years, 229 days starting 11 average just 16 caps, 8 of you. Count on the official competition, hooray miles Robinson and Chris Richards flinging at center back, which is a, you know, the future is now said the T foe. But before the T fo could even be bloody lowered before that T fo could even this is this is how chronic. This little dramatic the other Concacaf script writers are the really, I think if there are concast script writers, they probably are also the script writers for boy island. But my God, we had a madness. We had a madness inside one minute. First, Zachary Stefan came charging out of his box headed the ball clear like some kind of Yankee Edison works for Edison, but then he kind of trotted back. If you look at the video trotted back, the defensive line didn't reset and Keisha fuller kind of rolled home and open. I still don't know how it got in past a flat footed Zach. I mean, it was it was it was heartbreaking is really the offside, they'll charge that poor assistant referee, screaming, but they were wrong. You know, Destin played them all on. And the crazy thing about that goal other than the fact that it happened within like two seconds of kick-off before they bloody even got the T foe down. The future is now. Was it it was another self inflicted wound. Zach. A fascinating player. Great human being. I mean, I think he's a very, very good goalkeeper. We don't really know how good he is because he's not playing regularly at the moment. Once he had like two games in the past four months, was given the lord over Matt Turner. I mean, I wrote this at the time before the girl, a bull move to pick a player who was not a regular for his own team. Over a kid who'd been given a chance to play for the national team and seize that chance like few other American internationals. Honestly, Matt Turner with his beautiful eyeliner. And his gorgeous angelic singing voice of the national anthem had been one of the stars of the World Cup qualifying journey so far. Stu Holden actually tweeted when the news broke this afternoon that Zach was starting. I don't like this, rotating out of goalkeeper, that had played really well and was full of confidence, had reps for a goalkeeper that's played barely for his team. It may not matter, but if it does dot dot dot and it does, it does. It does. And I mean, when it happened, when I heard.

I'm doing this too much later. Than i'm i'm setting people up be disappointed. I was in my chair air kicking. I was laughing so hard. Because vince vaughn is just makes me laverick and oliver to and then we oliver was quoting the rest of the day this line and even danielle and And the young man. I always forget his name. It's nice gun movie. yeah movie. We saw that Our own private theater with the two other folks awesome who chatted at one point. Then y'all said shoes and they could not have been more apologetic about it. That's nice Do they think you weren't there. I wonder if they were like we gotta talk. I actually i. Actually they were talking is such that. I think that maybe they thought that like there's nobody else here I'm concerned not concerned. I wanna make sure has oliver seen Shanxi he is not. How is that possible. He cares used to care about this as he grown out of it. No i forget. I forget what his reason was because he did. Just tell me. It is the reason. Dad doesn't care place because it's too crowded still president. Maybe it's that maybe we're trying to find take right up here to the regal beagle Look here's the thing. Even at our cinemark quickly. I don't know how they're open all day like they should really limit it back. They're trying to make money. They should go. You know what. We're only be opened between four and nine more matinees for the time being. Because i went to it was just me. Do you think they just have fewer people working and so it doesn't cost them that much to be open. Maybe that's possible. I mean like if they know it's not going to be crowded they can get by with a skeleton crew. But how do they get by. If there's literally when i went to that matinee the other day and it was just me and then i literally saw one other person. Let's let's pretend they're six movies playing Let's pretend there's at least ten people. Seeing a movie at any given time doesn't that seem like even with a skeleton. They're making no money. I mean the electricity of running the projector alone right. You would think would welcome it. Because i'd rather be in there by myself during these times. Then go okay now. We're forced to go into this window because by the way in that we probably wouldn't go right. Yeah i agree but this was. This was always the case even before kobe right because matinees row is pretty skimpy. Yeah and so. I'm wondering if the combination of training people you know you can you have. You should have somebody for an eight hour shift anyway and then you know at a theater of any kind. The box office is one box office for as many theaters as you have. And the only the only real downside is do you need a projectionist for room but today with all the digital stuff you probably..

R. hanging out of windows and J. R. in a car in Italy not let's let's let's let's let's keep that private and in speaking of of private something that's not private it is common knowledge is that for the most part well at home you know it if you're not at home you're at work and if you're at work there's a good chance that this still probably a skeleton crew there while you're outside okay I'm missin baseball I'm a little star crazy it's a little while when I step outside I'm I'm based in here in Atlanta right now so go outside in the middle of the city and lunch time in to see absolutely no one you see a couple of people heading to the parks you see a couple of people in and out of the office buildings primarily work isn't security and no one's outside but today was going to be one of the earliest starts for Major League Baseball March twenty sixth I actually looked at that on the calendar weeks ago inset I cannot wait for baseball to return and we don't have baseball we're still trying to home school our children through virtual learning we're still basically trying to us socially distance each other ourselves from each other and there is no baseball I can drive my I can drive by true this part in hope that these baseball and maybe then I'll see the Braves but who knows when that's going to happen and when that's going to occur we don't know but I do know that baseball is America's pastime what are your fan of baseball or not baseball is great I love baseball on a Sunday afternoon nothing like it give me give me extra innings on a slow Sunday give me an opportunity to sit read do some work and have the game on in the background give me a hot summer day we can go in the back and barbecue you don't have to do is maybe turn on a radio or going to the house every now and then and check the score that's what I want from baseball I want to go to the game and maybe get a little bit of it saying if I can get any darker I have a lot of J. R. sport brief I want to get a little bit of a tan I want to get a little bit of a sweat I want I want to have a couple of beers that's what I'm not getting with no baseball right now and having said that you think about baseball you think about summer you think about the fourth of July maybe you think about a hot dog me I don't particularly like hot dogs but I love to eat I love to drink I'll take a good beer but my favorite memory from opening day happened to be in New York City in the Bronx New York when the New York Yankees opened up their nineteen ninety six season in the snow in N. B. Pettit who must have just been a robot whether it was the post season opening day open up the season on the mound for the New York Yankees won the game through the snow pitched a little more than six innings and the Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals wait box was on that New York Yankees team opening day in nineteen ninety six Joe Girardi was still playing he was still the Yankees catcher at that point in time in some guy named Derek Jeter was actually making his first opening day start for the New York Yankees in the bottom of the order in the New York Yankees they did what they did it they actually went out there and they won seven to three and that is my favorite opening day memories when I think about baseball there's also another one another chilly cold day there was a Japanese player named Godzilla who happen to come through and always seem like Godzilla for the New York Yankees came through in the clutch happened in a grand slam his first day as a New York Yankee and he was certainly bundled up and I'm pretty sure that wasn't something he necessarily always experienced and felt while he was playing out in Japan I see you met in San Diego on the line so it's unfortunate that we have to deal with times like this and that we are operating out of the normal we even have NBA players who are bored I don't know how many more tick tock dances we can see I don't know how many live streams we can view I don't know how many more dance moves that we can pick up on the internet but everybody's a little bit start crazy so when we come back we're gonna talk to Ryan Dempster and I'm going to get his thoughts one when we might see baseball how these players can actually stay healthy that's something else you have to take into account Major League Baseball players will basically revved up and ready to go after a month of spring training they've now pause and now we want to get games back these guys got to get warmed up I'm gonna ask one about that right now we have some calls on the line they want to continue I know people love and hate the cowboys we're going to keep things rolling let's go to Matt in San Diego Matt you want to J. R. sport roof show CBS all right now I love a lot of that began with good yeah you know Matt I don't it's it's tough can I get can I can I get any darker can I get a hold and say man Bobby K. I I don't know you but I I don't think you can get much more border yeah I'm some stupid talk without him however all right all right Hey look I'm a you know I'm not a big trucks got Dan or a Tom Brady fan he's not bigger your gal picture Montana Aaron Rodgers and Brett farb any day over a Tom Brady and dak Prescott if you know come on what is he done and why what do you do I think is going to give you better does Donna now was going to do in the future and every modern Jerry Jones in it if we paid them that much money I just what what is what let me ask you Matt why do you think that that dak Prescott is is not going to get better I mean he hasn't even cracked like he's not older than twenty seven years old he just all year by year he's last year last season he had his best year of four thousand nine hundred and two yards thirty touchdowns eleven interceptions he ran for a couple hundred yards why wouldn't he continued to become better in progress well okay that's him but what about his team so they took the game doesn't you know if he doesn't step up then that you could do all he wants but big deal yeah what when we're talking about his paycheck yes I am I I still don't I I don't see him being worth that much money I know first of all nobody has to pay any athlete more than ten million dollars a year to the players stupid game for a few months come on you've got to you've got to go along with this ridiculous thirty million dollars thirty eight million dollars to play a game for a few months come on same and why wouldn't they well look well that's it's a very difficult that's a very difficult thing Matt I'm actually it's worth that nobody has worked at the point of what Paul did baseball and had baseball suffered Jonah footballer sure moment listen it's it's it's called it's called it's called capitalism yeah people it that's I'm sure that's what it is man if if people if you didn't want if you didn't want dak Prescott to get paid thirty seven million dollars or twenty seven million dollars next year there's a few things then people would have to stop watching the NFL and all of the broadcast partners would have to stop paying the NFL to broadcast and then maybe nobody would make any money but the money is there on the table it has to get split some out well Matt I'm I'm up against a break I appreciate your call enough I understand the premise of what you're saying nobody is deserving of you know X. Y. Z. amount of money this is what I like to say if somebody is going to be willing to pay you take the money it's that simple it's coming from somewhere in the NFL players regardless of of of of how much money you might make or not make they make that much money because we show up and watch because we turn on our televisions and watch because we bite the products because we buy the jerseys that money go somewhere where do you want to go back into your own pocket it be nice but it doesn't work that way if you don't want that Prescott to make thirty million dollars with thirty five thirty six thirty seven million dollars next year it's real simple don't watch the NFL if you don't want lebron or Steph curry or or Chris pole to make thirty three thirty four thirty five and forty million dollars next year it's real simple don't buy league pass don't tune in to the NBA on TNT.

"I kind of know what my squad is gonna look like over the next year and a half. Now you were in a Gold Cup. Let's say we won the Gold Cup. Does it matter within the ranks of the United States, men's national team? It is a flex. But, you know, there's, there's it does feel like if you do win this, in the fashion, we're playing as we discover our next great goalie our next great star our next potentially. Really good coach does winning the Gold Cup matter to you. It does because of where this program is. And I as a fan. I mean I my, my analysts had offer a second fan. It's been hard to watch this and been hard to support this team. We all been painful, it's a little bit just emotionally painful, it one hundred percent is, and, you know, we, we all we all as much as we still have to be on air and talking the way that we do in analyze this team. I it has been painful has been it's almost been disheartening. I mean, the game the other night I John did against Venezuela. We lost three zero Colin to Venezuela, and I'm up in the booth and just think I, I wasn't having fun. It was. It was one of the harder games. I've had to do. And so I wanna see this team win again. I wanna see them lift the trophy and for me like you said, early stages of dating. I you wanna fall in love with this team again. And it's gonna take more than the Gold Cup. Because we talked about right at the top of this. The bottom moment for this program. It's a gold cups, not going to bring you back. It's going to have to be. Be a slow dating process little victories along the way and then ultimately globally for us to be respected again this offer country we have to do well in the World Cup. That's the only chance. And see. That's the only that's the only measuring stick when it comes to global soccer FOX soccer host and analysts finally Stu Holden out when officially does World Cup qualifying begin for Qatar. It start some time in the fall, you have this Konkan cap nations league qualify. So they changed the format a little bit. And you go through, you know, the United States are in their, their first mini group with believe it's Canada, and I don't have the other team off the top of my head right now. And then it becomes, you know, year and a half process of going through that. And hopefully heading towards Qatar because it's no longer a given. The United States are going to be there. We would be naive to just say, oh, the US will get through this, and they're going to be in Qatar. So I it's, it's interesting. I'm ready for this thing to get going. It's when you really find out about this team and, and who's, who's got enough, and that, that that's crunch time. And it's going to be where Gregg Berhalter is ultimately judged, Stu good talking to you, bud. Thank you. Yeah. Great, great catching up calling and join your soccer explosion on them. You know, it I think, were to stage. It is, you know, it's like, it's, it's very early dating stage with our team, and that there's a feeling out process. There's a couple of things I know as you said, Alto, and Bradley will be there. I know politic will be our star Weston mckennie will be somewhere involved, one of my complaints. You know, I know John Brooks, by the way who's now kind of dealing with an injury. He'll be in the back end that those things I know do you think right now if you told Burkhalter? All right. How many things do you believe in his mind are set going forward? Or do you think this is really an exploratory stage for the next two years? I think, and I hope we're getting closer and closer. I mean for Gregg Berhalter is this is his since his first time as an international coach. We've talked to a multiple times throughout the tournament, and he's saying I've never had to deal with, you know, the third game in the tournament, we're already through what do I do, do I change my lineup? How do I balance quarterfinals semifinals? So he's learning and feeling this process out as well. I think he's also finding out to your point who, who are my horses. Who, who am I going to ride through this process? And, and your name is pretty much everybody. I'll throw in Tyler Adams, you got a guy who missed this tournament through injury. I played he by the way, he played in the MLS in New York. I saw him live, once most people like yourself, Stu believe he's the next breakout star. Is that fair to say? Yeah. I mean, he's, he's going to be the next captain of this team. No, no doubt, no doubt. And and, and, you know, he's, he's figuring out who were my horses. How can I build into that? I think looking at our youth programs. Because you start to think for and, and you and I talked about this yesterday. You know, just th the, the younger soccer is getting at the elite level. And so who who from are under seven teams are under twenty are under twenty three team is going to really emerge. You always expect a couple of those players to go through that cycle and participate in World Cup qualifying. And then go to the World Cup. So I think we could probably expect three or four starters that we don't know about in this all kind of men's national team yet. And that's what I think Greg berlitz, or like zero point is, it's a little bit of exploring, but a little bit of okay?

"The other young player that jumps out to me in just in terms of skill is west in McKinney. I don't know. However, stew, when I watched Gregg Berhalter system, I don't know where he fits in it. So let's start with Weston's talent and where he fits going forward because I do think he jumps through the TV screen. I think he's a special player. I completely agree with you. And I and I don't I actually did a segment on this heading into this tournament of, in Gregg Berhalter system. Where does Weston mckennie fit best because he's not he's not a number ten like ballistic and I agree with you. Prolific is is by far and away the best player on this team. No nobody can do it. He did he does. I remember when he's come on your show, a couple of times, and you ranting and raving and comparing him. I mean he he's got it all we need to build this team around for mckennie. It's interesting Gregg Berhalter coming into this tournament the position that he had him. He actually made a couple little changes to his system within the game even against Trinidad to pull west and a little bit deeper and have him facing the field and allow him to maximize that skill set that you mentioned good technically to be able to fight, and, and also I love this, this, this kid because he's got a huge personality and you're going to get to know more and more about him over the years to come. But he you know, he's the first one when Trinidad and Tobago kick one of his teammates, he's in guy's face. And he's he just shows. An intensity and he can get around the field. He can connect passes. And I think Gregg Berhalter learning more about him having worked with him and it's pleasing for me to see that he's putting in, in a position to maximize that by just making a little change to his system. So that's good. That Gregg.

"Takes that you won't hear anywhere else. And for the record. Rob Parker is the odd. One. I'm the more reasonable. What though listen to the couple with Chris Bruce Hart and Rafah on apple podcasts bore, when the iheartradio app or wherever you listen to podcasts. Now the Gold Cup is not part of World Cup qualifying. It was kind of created my understanding to make some people money, but I do enjoy it, and it's a chance, generally for the United States men's national team to flex. There's two or three things. We know in my opinion, we know about the United States men's national team now, Christian pulisic is our star. He's already established in Europe, from Dortmund now to Chelsea this coming season. And we also know we have two very capable veterans and Michael Bradley in the center Josie Al to door my question, No, Bradley and Alta door. It's very clear that Burkhalter he's, he's bringing in his guys, it's kind of a youth movement. He wants to build this puppy, so it peaks, all these young guys will be nineteen twenty twenty one at the next World Cup in Qatar will Michael Bradley and Josie altitude, or in your opinion. Along with pood- Leszek will those be sort of the three names three leaders of that team. Or do you believe there's going to be sort of a segue away from Bradley, who's a step slower now less reliance on Alto door? How do you see we know EULEX Christian pulisic is in, how do you see out the door and Michael, Bradley going forward the next two years? The next two years. I think that the these players will still be a big part of this team. I haven't, and the reason I say that call and they shouldn't be they, we should have had as the United States we should have developed some players at this point in those positions that, that were that are ready now to take the reins from those guys. But as we always, say, and has always been there. They changing of the guard, but the changing the guard happened, just purely based on a Nate an age or a number it happens when the player behind you is better than you, and consistently outplays. You and ended on merit. Nobody at this point you could say especially at the vision. Michael Bradley plays. There's n- there's nobody better right now. There's a young player Tyler Adams, who is, is not the type. He's not the exact type of mold of in that number six position that the coach wants so he's talking in guys that you thinks fit his system Tyler Adams might be able to be that guy. If you change few things around him. So and then we have this young, we have. Acre injust Sargent who's playing in the Bundesliga but hasn't played many games he's nineteen years old. He's still young. He's not quite ready. So I think it's, it's more of a it's going to be a slow changing of the guard. If you had asked me to put money on if I thought Josie out the door would be at the World Cups in twenty twenty two I would say, yes, if you had asked me to put money on Michael, Bradley, I would say, yes, also, and I, I wouldn't be putting money on them. Starting though. I would I would be putting them money as being part of this group out to door clearly has a physical presence Bradley is, you know, athletically, he's not the player. He was probably four to six years ago. But again, I think he does have a presence and, you know, like Clint Dempsey at the end that matters when you're surrounded by young players now pulic in, I'm no soccer expert, but I saw him at seventeen and I said on the air. Okay. That's our Magic Johnson. He can score twenty. He can have twenty assists. This is a guy that can score. He can assist this feels like a special player..

"I'm an old, man. And in behind the times, apparently, but a Premier League USA was pressuring putting more and more pressure on read it to block legal streams and blog copyright. Right shit. And it got so out of hand. I guess the amount of streamers on on our soccer. Streams that read funded shut it down. And I I. I really do believe that NBC gold started. This feels go. I don't know if they directly caused fucking the streaming website to be shut down, but their pay wall was the first soccer paywall that was you know, instituted forced upon you. And then reluctantly accepted. And once that's at least us it was forced upon us, which is the most that that's so fucked them, I don't care if there's other pay walls that was the first one we hit. That's fucking absolutely true. And you know, what we head of friend who had an account, and he paid for the ketone. So we thought we were good. We had the count we could watch whatever. And then they're like, no you have to pay to watch certain games that that sucked. And then. Then this year with Bleacher report slash TNT to watch Champions League games last year, rose on Fox Sports, you could watch any single game for free on Fox Sports go. Now, you have to pay a brand new subscription to watch be our live. I'm sorry. I don't wanna fucking here. Steve Nash and some other American commentator about Champions League on a here English people. The way the football is deserve to be heard. And now, you just have the companies the fucking owners of the pram champions, the pressuring streaming sites to shut everything down. So everything is behind a paywall. So I can I'm gonna fucking close it out with this a giant. Fuck you too. All you money hungry. Fucking bitches that are demanding the US soccer fan pay money to watch soccer. No wonder this sport isn't growing as quickly in the United States as it could imagine if we could watch all this auger wet and Faulk made that'd be great. But no NBC gold has to make it's money. Like, it's not a giant fucking corporate. Nation that has Monday night football on it. Anyway, they don't need to fucking force people to pay money to watch soccer, God, I hate people and rant sorry. And and that was Martin talking. No, I totally agree. And like when I think TNT, I think like basketball league that sucks now I gotta like rework my fucking brain like rewire it like what is this? Like I do. I do like a stew Holden. Like, he's. Okay. But then again, it is nothing against like. That's why I feel like obviously, we could never commentate a game. But like his I just I just missed the British. You know, you're just there's something soothing calming. They're not like people are yelling the whole time. It's not like Alexi Lalas whose like fucking screaming the whole time. But you know, there's just a little bit more like, you know, air in the room when there's British people do in the commentating. You know, what I mean exactly, I don't I can't remember if if you and I have talked about this before if my brother, and I talked about this before we all talked about it together, which all three are giant possibility. But we noticed that the difference between American commentating in British commentating is the mountain pausing. The amount of you know. Silence from the commentators and just allowing the game to be played. And you can hear the noise of the crowd. Like, I want that I want that. I don't want Stu Holden and Alexi lawless. Landon Donovan tailored twelve min fucking. Who else am I missing? I think who's the this Manish not that or that. No, no, no, the Mexican guy from Fox Sports go who like screams, the whole time. Oh, Alberto Merano Alberto Marino. No, not the guy from ESPN NFC. It's another guy. I forget that dude is the guy who said della Faye was the next messy. So I will always have a place. Oh, no not that that guy that guy's a fucking nerd. I'm just going to say like like. Like, it was like it was like I could give this guy second chance. But like there's no second chance after you say della phase going to make it like Barcelona the star..
