"I don't think that many people would put him as the solidified closer. I think he's more of a eighth inning or still late. Inning guy eighth-inning probably inning guy. But not a not a closer adam sandler. I think deserves it. He he pitched in all three of the four games against cleveland. Three innings zero earned runs two strikeouts. Honestly i think he does deserve it. He does since coming to the blue jays. You mentioned mark. He's just been fantastic and he. I mean this doesn't really necessarily help his case but he looks like he's extremely into it and you watch those reactions after the game and it's clear that he wants the big You want those big innings for the blue jays. I think you give it to him. I think the way. I remember who i was talking about. I'm said this about somebody earlier on in the season but you give him the closer role until he proves that he can't close and got a big series against the red sox you got i mean even you look at that next homestand. You got oakland you got chicago the the white sox you know there's some good teams coming up that you desperately are going to need your best guys pitching against i mean with liam hendriks on the white sox team or not as he is he was chicago yeah easily chicago i can remember. I knew with oakland for so many years but regardless he like when you're against so many good teams you gotta have your best guys and you know we talk about you. Need your best five in euro. Tation you need your best four against the red sox as a starter you need your best relievers as well. And that's honestly..

"I mean you look at guys in their rotation in the ray. They've had in the second half since it started july. Even going back to the start of june. It's been horrible for them. So you hope the blue jays can take advantage of that you hope they can come out win two of three or excuse me two or four or three or four. Maybe or you know who knows maybe even asleep. But i'm not going to get my hopes up for that but that really changed my perspective. Because i really didn't realize how bad the red sox were doing and again you know last time the red sox the red sox were struggling as well and they came out and you know took both games. I think of that two-game set because one of them was rained out. If i remember correctly bet who knows we will see what happens. Another pitching conundrum for the blue jays is the bullpen. The bullpen has been really good lately. You know we can trash all want for the beginning of the season. But they've improved a lot with the arms they've got even though you do have two games in the series with the bullpen. Putting up some scary numbers. You know you got that brad. Hand blown save in not technically save blown opportunity in the tenth inning of game one you got that the six runs. The bullpen gives up in the second game or third game of this series despite that the bullpen has been pretty good But a lot of people have concerns about jordan romano and rightfully so. He hasn't been himself lately over his last few appearances. Last nine games eight point two innings pitched as an eight point three one era over his last nine games. That's eight earned runs over eight point..

"But they're not terrible pitchers and i would rather have a couple more starts out of those four guys than give those to combine stephen max enron stripling. I guess is how the best way to put. It doesn't mean that they're bad doesn't mean that they couldn't be good out of the bullpen. But i feel like if down the stretch you say. The blue jays need to win a series. They needed to win this series. They got fantastic. Starting pitching say the situation presents itself in the final couple series of the and you need to win the series to make the playoffs. I would prefer to have it set in stone. Some of your best guys. The the top four in rotation maybe stripling as your your guide pitch instead of stephen matt's an ross stripling kind of in rotation at the same time. Because i do think that yes that does help review. Perhaps but i. I wouldn't say that the extra quantity of starters would necessarily improved quality of it. Because now that you have jose bruce you have a fantastic top four and i even top five stripling late. He does present himself at times. He is very good when he is on his game. So i think that when you have the the top of the rotation that you do it makes sense to stick with them and give them the innings. Because i think that that would be the better option going down the stretch into the playoffs or anything it. Just it makes more sense to have your best guys pitching even if it's only like one or two extra starts like i'm like a six man rotation that's maybe that subtracts one or two starts from everybody for the rest of the season but i still think that those one or two could be those starts could take place in a game that the bluejays absolutely have to win and they need their absolute best guys like going into this..

"I guess you can't go on in the angeles without being trueblue. Jay is already on the injured list. So taylor saito is currently in the bullpen. For that reason if the story it comes back and then if you move somebody to the bullpen who do you send down a triple eight. It's gonna be a tough one. There's a couple names here that you may be able to. I guess sign on but it's it's a tough situation that the j. zorin but it's a good one to have but farrah stripling i think from what i've seen especially seeing him last friday at the James home opener at rogers centre. I think he deserves to stay on the rotation for the time being. I don't maybe it's something that the kind of monitor they can go back and forth and it's not like they have to make a set in stone decision between ross stripling or stephen matt's right. Now i agree with jacob i think ross stripling the guy that station rotation all disagree with you. I think they do have to make a sentence own decision. I think one say commit to one of these guys moving to the bullpen. They have to stick with it. They can't be moving back and forth with pro stripling beam of a bulk guy one day then making a start the next time through the rotation they gotta stick with whatever decision they make but as far as what that decision is..

"The season and then he just had a couple of bad outings and then a of good outings but Post the trade deadline and the all star break and so with with ross stripling. I do think that his numbers aren't necessarily a reflection of not being very good. Every start has just been. He's good sometimes. He does struggle sometimes. I mean he. He obviously had those mechanical changes early on in the season but he almost has been a completely different pitcher. Whereas with stephen matt's it's other than his first couple starts whereas era was in the ones. It was fantastic. He just has been mediocre at best. And i mean he's not a bad fifth option. But when you have six options he's probably the odd-man-out and it's a lefty option in the bullpen. I mean there's ryan rookie. And there's tim meza. That's not a bad option. Especially considering stephen ads could be stretched out could give him three two or three maybe four innings if you absolutely need it if you haven't seen an opener a couple months but if you wanted to do that then there's a guy than come out although Yes as bryson is testing. I don't think it's a good idea. I do like the traditional rotation whether it's five or six men however when you have six men. I think that it is going to be stephen acts. That is the odd man out just considering stripling. You're next season and he's shown flashes of being extremely good i. I don't think that you take that guy out of your rotation yes. It's definitely a bit of a gamble..

"Do we like mccain netted bank in a may be like jumped. Hello and welcome one. And i'm your host mark collie as always joined co-hosts person jacob our guys i'm doing good mark another series at home or the jays take it. They win the series now. The only thing. I'm going to be a little bit of a debbie downer here but i think everyone can agree with me as it could have. It should have been a sweep but we'll take three to four getting close to that second wildcard spot. Things are looking up for the blue jays. Right now yeah. They lose the first game in kind of catastrophic catastrophic fashion. They were winning or they tied it to to go into extra innings brad hand comes out of the bullpen and things go downhill from there. You gives up a home run another run and being a five two loss but they come back. They bounced back. They win the next three games of the series. And i think the you know even if the win streak is gone even if that perfect record at home has gone. I still think you've got to be happy with taking three or four. Even if it's a team by cleveland you gotta be happy with that. You can't ask for the blue jays to win. Every single game they still have won seven of the last eight. I don't know i'm pretty happy..

"Stripling so we made some mechanical changes and realize. Hey i knew something here. 'cause status quo is not working and i think it was both bullpen coach. Matt bushmen and a pigeon coach pete walker noticed the same thing with him and they both saw some things that Where they're like. Oh you you need to. You need to change your glove movement. I believe it was. And i included this in jeff. Zimmerman's piece daddy put up recently where we were analyzing a bunch of different pitchers and evaluating them pre and post sticky ban and kind of taking all suggestions. I did the stripling piece and let me pull that up real quick. Yeah so they. They saw something about stabilizing his glove during wind up. And since then he's been a stud stripling has really popped off since the changes. And if you look at it he has just one bad start since then it was actually his most recent start and even including that start to ninety. Era point ninety seven. Whip in forty nine and two thirds for stripling. He's been awesome. As a twenty five percent strikeout rate eight percent walk rate in that same period of time and the simple fact is y'all while he only has a of one hundred and twenty two innings back in two thousand eighteen for his career as a pro. I don't think the jays have the ability to really pull him back like they're fully in the thick of things here. Pitching is kind of their weakness although they are starting to you know have the makings of a pretty strong rotation with getting back on track. Ross stripling robbie ray and alec minoa. Those have been really good if they trade for somebody. Or if stephen matt's maybe find some of his early season magic than they've got something they should get. They should get some reinforcements just so they can give guys a break here and there to get to the finish line. But i really think that there's a chance for stripling to be a go-to guy the rest of the way again. I think it's similar to burritos where we might see a little pushback here and there. But i don't think we're going to see full on skips or move back to the bullpen or major. Peel back of his workload. I just don't think that they have that luxury. He's thirty one years old. I think it's kinda go time with him and they don't they don't want to run him into the ground but i think he could get upwards of another one hundred innings and that would give him one seventy five on the year and that would be fantastic now like lynn. He should be rostered in. Virtually all formats at this point but go check. I bet he has a lower roster rate on espn then gunslinger does and. I'm looking at right now. Twenty-seven percent so espn. john leagues. they generally catered towards ten teamers. So you're gonna find more availability. But i think that that's way too over officer rate for stripling at twenty seven percent even accounting for the fact that it's mostly ten team leagues. I just i just don't get that. He's been so strong now. Going on two months sense there's an actual change to look at too. You're not just using arbitrary samples. There is something to go off of. And i think stripling be down the stretch staying in division running to the other side there as far as age goes we'll look at ten or hawk and You know he's a young arm that we saw debut last year and looked pretty good in his seventeen innings of work and then i believe he broke camp with the team. Let me see here. Yeah he he. He was starting in their very first rotation there april thirty got his first start and then they were kind of done with it because then he only got a relief appearance on april six and then he was. I believe sent out brought back on april eighteenth and then sent out again and actually. I'm wondering what's her injury mixed in here. I might not have my full history with how properly chronicled here but the bottom line is is that you know. He spent most of his season in the minors. He just came back this past week right after the break and he got a big multi. Save now. That was only because that was only because of the fact that they knew he wasn't going to start this week and they wanted to get him being extended outing so it was a three innings save. He went three innings. One hit one walk three strikeouts against the yankees cop that save in a four zero win obviously is going to be in the rotation and i think it could be a gem for them. He did have an injury by the way. It was a forearm forum tightness. I believe that he was. He was Nursing so yeah. That's part of why he was not in the majors for such a long period of time earlier and he accumulated twenty one innings in the minors. And don't get too hung up on the five fourteen. Era in the minors. Because if you look it comes with a to ninety three fifth twenty nine percent strikeout rate. Eight percent walk rate. Even the one twenty four whip is much better than you would think a five fourteen year would generate so there was a little bit of bad luck with the runs allowed I definitely think he was pitching better than that in triple a. and now he comes up to the majors and he has an opportunity to be a big part of their rotation. There's another team. That i just don't think we'll have the luxury to really hold him back as long as he's healthy we've seen since kind of the crackdown. Garrett richards is really fallen apart I think there's some rightful concern about guys like nick. Pavetti martine perez and even in warrenton rigas. Now that isn't necessarily widespread concern. I i feel like. I'm not on an island with that but i'm in a little bit of a minority i think some some are kind of putting water enriquez's as a by candidate and i get it to a degree because you look just simply. You're looking at Things that we're looking at here with some of these guys like er a versus sierra or versus fifth and world game at the underlying skills. And i get it. He has three forty six. This is eduardo rodriguez. I'm talking about Versus five nineteen eight strikeouts in walks or solid. But he still has a major home. Run issue is still allows too many heads. I think he'll be a whip problem even if he gets the down. So that's why i don't well. But he's not going anywhere in the rotation so i shouldn't have even brought him up in derailed myself..

"Unfortunately now one of the things you know as a parent obviously your son's very young but One of the things that they look up to us. They're going to mimic what we do. Our actions or behaviors. Walk me through this incident. Here with joe a what what. What was what was going on in your mind. I know the. I think the way you handled it. Afterwards was was very professional and very respectful. So walk me through this whole incident and the aftermath. that happened sure You know the worst thing you ever want to do is show but teammate in front of when you know we're we're on cameras it's going to show up and you basically look at it teammate. And and you know make him feel bad in put it on him and what happened was giancarlo. Stanton hit a slow roller joe. Panic playing third base. Giancarlo was not running hard so i knew that joe had a ton of time so screaming at joe. You got time you got time will. Joe tries to make a barehanded play and throw it and giancarlo ends up safe on first base in what that was was a culmination of a lot of frustration and anger from earlier in the season. Two now we're in pitching better and have. This is the sixth inning. That like i feel like i'm about to get out of this out in and give our team a chance to win and outing. Before in fenway against the red sox totally got away from me. When i was one pitch away so just like all these emotions and may not totally took it out on joe. I like slam on the ground. I look at him. I go palms up like manny wasn't running. What are you doing like just up. And he's a veteran. He's got go gloves. He's one world series like it's just not what you do as a teammate. In real time. I knew it was bad but once i got in the locker room i was over and i saw the replay of it It was awful man. It was the most disrespectful thing. I could have done to him in as a teammate. It's just the worst thing you can do. So i apologize to him individually. Apologize to the team as a whole apologize on twitter. I apologize to the media after the game. It's just it. You can't do it and like you said you said an example for your children. My son obviously doesn't know that yet but one day you might see that video and say what are you doing. Dad and i got you know. Tell them exactly what i just told you. It was frustration. And i took it out in the wrong area. Took it out on teammate. You never do that but what you do. Is you apologize afterwards. You take it head on. That's what a man does and You know it hasn't blown over quite yet. It's only been twenty four hours. But i feel like that. I was able to get ahead of it and apologize like that. It's already way better than what it would have been. If i just left it alone i agree. And obviously it's it's it's easy to be the dad or the hero when things are going right. I think it's in these moments where we do have these setbacks in these failures that truly show all our character and a testament to our character and i think he said the way you handled it afterwards was class and i think he will as you look back at that. As he gets older he will see the way. That you responded to so I think it ended up being a learning lesson for you and we'll be an inside. Look to you as your son gets older now bringing it back into use at that here now with the young son. What does the bedtime routine look like for you. Are you a lullaby guy here. You is reading the books. What's bedtime look like for you. So far bedtime is great. When i get to be there you know a lot of times. We play seven o'clock game. I'm not getting home until eleven so my wife handles bedtime quite a bit. I'm more on up duty. Which i enjoyed this as much. But when i'm there for bedtime My wife has a routine that she likes to do with them. Which is you know putting on the lotions. And and getting the buggers out his nose. All the stuff you gotta do for the newborns right and then we've got the sound machine. I think it's called a hash down machine. Men that thing is awesome. It's got like ten different modes and we found that he likes the woods version. You know where it sounds like. Kinda like crickets chirp in and are blowing and he loves that one and we just We just kinda hold him and rock them and tell them we love them into say man good night and he's such a good sleeper man. It takes just a couple minutes. He goes right to sleep and then we put them in the bassinet. He's he's still a bassinet right now. You know coming up on four months. We don't we don't know what we're doing with the crib and stuff yet. We bounced around so much. We don't even have a crib and some of the places we live so right now. he's just kind of sleeping next to the bed But man it's great. You know you get to be there. Say good night and the new the first thing he sees in the morning to when you get to be there for for being when i get to be there for bedtime and waking them up. It's just the best. Yeah one of the cool things as you mentioned before facetime. I mean that's something that wasn't always available now. It's so readily available. That i think it's a beautiful thing especially a lot of the guys in the military that are serving. They have the opportunity to face. Time in and get get to take part in some of these things that are missing out on where otherwise. You'd never even had a clue what was going on. So excuse me. I think a pretty cool part of it and let me ask you about your podcast here. The big swing podcast. What was the genesis of that and What can listeners. Expect to hear when they tune in. Yeah so. That's a podcast. I've been doing for over two years now with my buddy back home in houston is cooper is the co host and we kind of talk about everything man. I tell you what. I have a really cool network of former teammates and current teammates guys. You meet around baseball and to be able to get them in there and have just like a fifteen twenty minute conversation where they opened up more than what you would see on the post game interview right where they say things like. Oh god willing. We took a one pitch at a time like those kind of like cliche answers. This is more you know an open podcast type. Conversation with with guys like clayton kershaw and and You know. Max muncie justin turner guys from my los angeles days and now on the blue jays. Boba shet kevin busia like the young stars coming up in the game. So it's just it's been a lot of fun We do it once a week. They come out on wednesday. It's called the big swing reliable to talk about anything. It's definitely baseball focus but we we'll talk about the nba playoffs. We'll talk about the nfl. We'll we'll just kind of it's just kind of two guys kicking back having a good time. We've done over one hundred twenty episodes now man so we pushed them out every week. And it's a lot of fun very cool. I'm going to drop a link in the description of this. Podcast episodes of that podcast. My listeners can get over there and check it out and then obviously baseball is bigger and better than ever before i mean young kids are playing the three hundred sixty five days a year. Now travel baseball Back in the day it was like little league and that was the end of it. So what kind of advice do you have. Especially for young pitchers out their parents that have kids that are playing baseball hoping to go next level maybe into college..

"Father ross stripling. Welcome to first class. Fatherhood eddie man. Thanks for having all right. Let's start right here. How many kids do you have. How old i got. One kid is in as jackson and he is Just about four months old so just Just getting going in the fatherhood man. Yeah brand new. You still got the you still got the price tag on them now. How did you guys find out what you did you guys find out what you have with a gender reveal that you wait till the end. How'd you worked out so my wife always wanted to gender. Reveal right i mean. That's just this generation. they love it. Put it on social media and obviously have fun with it with the pandemic. At that time we found out we were living in. La exhaust was for the dodgers at the time and with kovin we couldn't get family or anyone out there you know so we try to maybe set it up through zoom and all that and it just didn't really work out so we ended up still making it a surprise from a doctor but We just videoed it ourselves. Like senate out the family so it wasn't as big of a gender reveal as we normally wanted to do. I don't know if she wanted to. Like papa balloon or throw a baseball to me or whatever it was that she had been dreaming out as still surprise. Open it up. It's boy that was a lot of fun. I remember that vividly for sure Just wasn't as big event. As i know she wanted to be very clear. You're going to run it right back and try for the girl or you guys all done. Now we're running back for sure. I think at the second one is a girl we might call it quits. If we have another boy my guess is she would want to shoot for third one to to get one of each there but You know hoping the american dream and wanna beach two kids. Call a good right there. I'd be happy we were in that but we actually had the three boys we got the girl in the fourth. Try so if not we were going five. But we got her on the fourth so for us. Ross if you could please just take a minute here to hit my listeners with a little bit about your background and what you do okay. Yeah so professional. Baseball player from texas live in houston texas m. drafted by the dodgers in two thousand twelve. Made it up. Debuted in two thousand sixteen played with them all the way until last year. Now with the blue jays We wish we were in toronto. But we're playing in buffalo right now because the because the kobe the border is closed. So we can't get over into canada to play so we're playing at a aaa facility grinded through a season and it's but it's been a ton of fun. This is a really young fun team. I've been married my wife shelby since two thousand seventeen and like i said our son jackson is four months old. Yeah very cool. And i just recently had mike. Piazza on the podcast. He talked about having kids late in his baseball career. I think he was about thirty. Eight or so Right towards the end of his career. You're you're doing it right now. What have been so far. The challenges for you being a new dad while competing at such a high level in major league baseball. Well man. what a question. i could go on for thirty minutes. I feel like you know it's obscene teammates. Clayton kershaw is one in los angeles who has three kids. Who is such a family oriented person. And i've been able to learn a lot from him how he is juggled being a father and also arguably being the best left handed pitcher that's ever played our game In just how he does it. You know so a been able to experience it through other teammates and kind of knew what was coming my way but then for the third time in this podcast. I've already mentioned the pandemic. You know. So i i had to stay back. Our son was going to be born at the very start of spring training. Normally i could have gone to spring training and when my wife was going to be induced to go into labor. Could just fly home and go into the room well. They weren't going to let me do that so i had to stay home. I was late spring training. He was also born in like a generational snowstorm in houston. Which does not happen. It does not snow in houston. We had no water no power for three days leading up to his birth. Just a crazy story In in anyways ended up everything goes totally fine. And he's you know our sun newborn for three days. And i had to leave. I have to go to spring training. I'm just gonna leave my poor wife behind his mother for the first time and luckily we have awesome support system. her parents. My parents are able to help. But you know i leave. I'm in florida their home in houston facetime and jackson. Our son has to get on a flight at about ten days. Old in fly to florida and then spring training finishes and we're starting to travel and play and so i'm i'm traveling around the country. Playing baseball will now. We have to move to buffalo. So jackson at four months old has already been on eight. Flights In my wife has not done with me all with my wife. My wife's going through security. Push him in the stroller. Doing all that stuff that you know moms do their superheroes man. So it's it's just been crazy. I mean four months. He's been on eight. Flights has been a multiple cities but he's a happy healthy little guy in my wife's killing it so it's you know i really can't stress enough. How crazy it is and how much as as the in part of the baseball lifestyle we rely on the wives and the mothers to to take care of of basically everything at home. Because it's just so much workload on the during the season when we just can't be there. Yeah wow what. We'll talk about like an introduction by fire here relocating pandemic all this going on now. You mentioned it there to a couple of times with the pandemic now having your first child during this what we were you able to go to all the appointments. I know it's usually especially with the first one. You usually i at your wife's appointments. You know everyone that she has. We able to go into the room for all the appointments or it was only selected few. You're allowed to do. The economic go for ultrasounds can only go when when we had a chance to see jackson through an ultrasound. That was maybe only three appointments. They and it was also buried by city at the time we were. We were in los angeles when we found out she was pregnant california. Obviously they had much stricter rules. I don't think i was allowed to go california all once. We got home to houston The rules had lightened up a little bit on what they were allowing for husbands. I mean for a while. It was looking like i may not even be in the room. I'm wife is going to have to deliver in a mask. And i wouldn't even going to be in the room and luckily texas lightened up. Those those Rules i guess in in anyways yeah only only ultrasound so about Maybe a little less than half the points. Yeah and you know. I i r- also had a lot of the. Nfl players on here asked him about how the nfl is when they have young kids and they all seem to be very pleased with the way the nfl handles them when they have new kids in the way that they make or their accommodations for them. How is major league baseball. Been so far for you and your teammates that have kids who they have. Certain things out the ballpark for the kids for the families do they make it. Very family oriented into major leaks. Well tell you what the answer is. Yes but the craziest part about it is the the eternity leave is only three days right so a lot of a lot of us trying and set up induction so that we can plan on being there because only get three days so you wanna like set it up to where maybe play a day game and then you can fly out that night and then you get the next three days. Hopefully maybe have have your you know child that next day you get two days at home and then and then you have to come back. I mean literally three days man. It's crazy but yes stance your question. I mean there's there's family rooms suites at the stadiums there's awesome amenities that the teams usually do for families in and also just the support system of the wives is so important. You know remember in los angeles. We had eight of us get married in the same offseason. So he had eight wives starting to travel with their husbands and move around the country with us and for them to be in. That together was huge and now a lot of those women are starting to have children as well so they really rely on each other which is You know such a big deal to have that network but yet to answer question the team also does plenty. Yeah very cool. And then obviously ross trending on twitter here the other day and i see that when i said man roy ross is trending. I'm doing an interview with him coming up what's obviously trending not for the right reasons..

"stripling" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"It now on your Amazon echo smart speaker by seeing play KNBR. I've been trying to clip up some of this. It's so funny like I've been frequently telling you guys about the book ball for the Jim Bowden book, which is It's so fun to get a look into a major league baseball psyche, especially back then a guy who's like a he's a middle reliever, basically, or he's actually moving. Like a long guy. He gets like he gets used in order to Triple A like 10 days into the season, and he's like I can't believe it happened already. It's gotta go toe like that. He's going to Vancouver something from a pin up in Seattle, where he's playing for the pilots, But it's so funny. Now you got guys who just they put it all out. There He was. He was such a A pariah for having wedding guy letting people in. Do you know the behind the scenes of what a major league baseball player goes through that they're not all the good American boys and we know that now? We know that there were people right? They're human beings. They get like CJ. McCollum has got a podcast You get like active players with podcasts are interesting. So Ross Stripling is doing one for for I don't know what it's like for the Dodger website. I don't think it is. I think it's totally separate because they're mean there. Kirsten, they don't seem like they're in the Totally. The don't think they're being produced by the Dodgers is my point. I don't know who the Who the parent company user where this is, but Ross scribblings put in the study actually had CJ McCollum honest, broadcast recently Touch sports. They talk whatever life whatever it's about, but he is Joe Kelly on talking about his his suspension, and Joe Kelly actually talking Pretty candidly about the suspension You got a couple years ago when he got into the fight with Tyler Austin at the time on the Yankees. Funny, they actually Ross crippling Angela Kelly get into a discussion about Tyler Austin, and it turns into a discussion about Austin Slater briefly because roster of Ivan Joe Kelly references Tyler Austin Former giant of course. Then Ross stripling references. Tyler Austin, but he calls him Austin Slater and Kelly says, You mean Tyler Austin? He says, Yes. Sorry, the Giants have that guy. That guy on the Giants Austin Slater. Everytime I see Austin. I just think Slater a C. Slater, which is why he's starting problem. They've got a rift on Austin's later for a minute, Okay about that. Austin's later get a little nod from the two dudes on the Dodgers. But I'm a little bummed about Austin's later, man. This guy's guy he was, he was breaking the ball three home runs in three days. He takes Kershaw deep twice and then we hear yesterday that he scratched from the lineup after for doing it. John Murphy, and that because he's got a bum elbow and capital wouldn't speak as to whether or not that was that was from a previous injury. He also said that he's he may get a scam know exactly. That means you make it a Stan. He gets back to San Francisco, so they're headed back. They got a three game series with the A's and, oddly enough, they've already named Their rotation for that serious crazy, right? He put three guys out there. Well, he's confident enough. Now in three of his starting pitchers, it sounds like Tio Tio right out of rotation, at least for the coming, Siri. So let's get into some of the sound. The postgame sound from yesterday's really stuff from Trevor Cahill. Gabe Kapler don't want to get into the sack cranky stuff because there is some fun, fun, fun. Zack Greinke stuff going on. And look, It's much easier of a pill for me to swallow that he's not a diamondback. And that he's not a he's not a Dodger anymore. That was a brutal few years man Having to see Greinke and Kershaw, we talked. I mean, now it's not all that much better evidence. He GranCare Ah, Walker, Buehler and Kershaw notorious and whoever the hell else they run out there. But anyway, here's Gabe Kapler yesterday, Trevor Cahill comes out his major or not Majorly debut, his Giants debut. He does not allow a hit, which was sort of funny. They were saying first giant cannot allow a hit and he's Ah is I think there's something in his first start with with the franchise something like that. Because he only went five outs 55 pitches. We knew he was on a tight pitch count. They put good wood on the ball after he left, but he walked four guys and you get free passes. You could get into trouble. Now. The free pass is ultimately did not come back to hurt them early. Ironically, it was the six hits in an inning later. That sort of beat them up. So here's Gabe Kapler stick with us on this little one. He does a pretty pretty good breakdown of Trevor Cahill's opening performance yesterday. I thought he was. You know, he was missing just off off the corners. At times. He wasn't you know, perfectly efficient, but he was certainly effective. On DH. Yeah, I think for the first time he did a fine job. I know that he expects, uh, he expects a lot of himself and have you been a little bit more efficient than we would have been a game. As you guys know, running of the gowns in the vicinity of 45 or 50 and the yellow went to 55. After just a couple of frames. It's You know, 1st 1st time out is along, so we're just gonna listen about but he didn't find out for us. On then, with barrier. We know that he relies on his fastball Lot do you think tonight It was just a matter of the Astros taking advantage of a few location, mistakes or what did you see from him? I think was definitely of the location of his fastball..

"Dodgers and David A lot of questions about the team this year. Like how come Kershaw didn't start? What was the story with him? On, I would say was two days before opening night He was working out in the gym, and it was an exercise. He was doing actually the strength in this core And that's where his back stiffened up. So he got better on Wednesday, and it got a little better on Thursday, but not good enough for the Dodgers to risk putting him out there so He's feeling a lot better. He threw 15 pitches off pitching mound yesterday, and he's going to do that again tomorrow in Houston, and it looks like he will be pitching. At the end of this road trip. He's very encouraged an optimistic by the way his back is feeling. But if he admitted once you have a back injury, it's never going to get it. Go away. You just have to manage it and popped up out of nowhere. I love that. You know, there's a couple of pictures like you know Ross Stripling also Alex Wood. These kids every time they have an opportunity to go out there and pitch. They really kick ass and they would start on any other team. All almost all these guys. Yeah, I love Alex would him because he may not be the most talented guy. But his competitive fire is as good as Kershaw's. I would say it's on the same level. And the kid was actually alive. No, no. He's like 6263 I was told, and Stripling was almost traded to the Angels. He would have been there there Number one starter if he got traded to the Angels, but that deal fell apart. And the Dodgers are very fortunate that it did because one of their pictures David Price, who came over in the trade for Mookie Betts, he opted out of playing this season so that made their rotation a little thinner. Right. But when I look at the outfielders you've got Cody Ballenger movie bets. I got Gore, Peterson, Pollack and Taylor that I mean again. There's only room for three of them out there. But every one of those guys could start. Yeah, and the way that Dave Roberts says managed it so far through the 1st 4 games is having Pollack and Peterson and Taylor rotate between leftfield and th That is a huge advantage for the Dodgers this year because of the shortened season and trying to keep pictures healthy. They put the D H designated hitter. In the National League, and that is just made things a lot deeper and gives them more options to get more guys in the lineup. And what kind of guys Mukhisa Good guy Mookie Betts. Great guy. Great guy does a lot of good things in the community. I heard stories about him in Boston, Tim that after a game and he had Fenway part He would drive to this library where there was a bunch of homeless people, and he would pick up food and feed them in the dark of night without any cameras, and he would do that often. He's from Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee and during the quarantine. He showed up in a supermarket and paid for all the seniors grocery, stirring the senior shopping hour at a supermarket in Tennessee, and that was spontaneous as well on his part, so there's a reason why the Dodgers committed 12 years toe having him here. It's not just what he's about on the field, but how great of a guy he is off. Yeah, and then they keep some of the older guys around who like bias. Who's been around for? I don't know. Probably. He was probably born the last time the Dodgers won the World Series. It seems that way. He's a workhorse. He never says no, I mean they can warm him up three different times. And he comes in and he gets the out. Joe Kelly Ah, great guy, Kenley Jansen, Who's there? Closer. Still, he He has Tio come to terms with the fact that he is getting older and that That job does not have a very long shelf life, so we'll see how well he does this year. Yeah, and and so where do you stand? And where's Rick Monday when the game's being played? Are you still in the press box? Yeah, This is what's happening. Tim. Actually, the on in the press box. I mean, Tommy Lasorda's old GM Booth Booth, seven. The last Booth in Ah in the press box, and that's where I do. My pretty game hits my post game shows from, But Rick Monday is in the suite. Next to me, he's actually in a luxury suite. They converted that into Ah broadcast booth for him, So we're socially distanced. And Charley Steiner, Who's the play by play, man, hey has said that he's a hanging curveball for covert 19th. The Dodgers were very generous and setting up basically a broadcast studio in his living room now, and he's calling the games off the television while Rick is at Dodger Stadium. Well, I mean, what am I mean, Look, you have to be a great play by play to be 40 miles from the field and still call the game exactly And being think with your play by play guy and I had the The opportunity. Tio call three exhibition games with Charlie being at home, and Nomar Garciaparra and I were at Dodger Stadium, and it went off without a hiccup. You would think Charlie was right there with us. Women, So you did play by play, or Charlie did it from home. Charlie did the play by play from home, But I was part of the broadcast booth with him and Nomar, Nomar and I were in that luxury suite. Oh, man you got I got to hear audio of that. I think I missed that. That rise. It.

"It does look like a two horse race. Even though some people will make a case for the Rangers. There's been some attraction there lately. The angles are coming at 8 to 1. So that was there a slight favorite over the eight eyes coming out to the one I mentioned, but no, it's it's You see some sharp money a little bit, but they don't really go overboard Supporting Ah Ah ah ah, 2 to 1 favorite. Let's say, even though the actors are literally the favorite that it looks like a two horse race there, and they haven't played athletics for having supported them. That much. You seemed a little bit of play on the Astros, but I agree with you. I mean, are over under for the 8 33.5 the Astros or 35. I mean, that's about as close as you get only a game and 1/2 separating the two But certainly I wouldn't personally lay 5 to 7 on the Astros. I would much risk I would be happier if I had my money on the to No. One athletics. But certainly certainly have seen a lot of sharp play on either one of those things. J before with the chatter here, let's talk little football. You're there in Vegas, and you have lived there for a while. Is Vegas getting fired up for the Raiders and You know who's taken the big money as Faras. You know the offseason bets on the NFL. I mean, it seems like Kansas City obviously is the defending champion. And then they re signed the homes. They re signed Chris Jones. They had a great draft Clyde Edwards layer, They added a ton of speed. Are the chiefs like far and away the number one choice for the Super Bowl, and and you know how the Niners in that mix Yeah, I know what it was really heating up, and obviously Copan, 19 took the air out of it. Things you know for everyone, and and I I will say that the team are the town has really warmed up to 15. Despite no all the you know, distractions and The derailment that we've really gone through here that keeps air. No doubt the favorite. I mean, we got the Ravens up there as well. But the cheese Air 92 of Ravens or 51 40 Niners are the next choice right after that, 8 to 1 right now, with the things coming in at 10 to 1. You know, the The local team has been getting a lot of support. Uh, you know a lot of small stuff on the on the Raiders. They're still holding at 40 to 1. But you know, you don't see any like educated or sharp money on the Raiders. It's all about the top three or 14. Wow, Kansas City, Baltimore, The Niners and the Saints, according to Vegas. Hey, good stuff, man. Have a have a, you know, Hopefully, sports comes back. Gambling comes back Vegas opens the pandemic disappears all the things that we're all rooting for. Way. Wish you nothing but success there in Vegas, and hopefully we'll get a chance to Ah, maybe talk a little football with you in a few weeks. Absolutely Larry, and we're just happy to see that you know, baseball starting up because you know they're They're the tip of the sword right now. And they're there Could've been a lot of things that derailed this. You know the upcoming season and you know they got there. So I give him credit in basketball and hockey is right around the corner as well. So we're really happy to see that you know, this is the start of major sports returning. I got a little money on Toronto. Ah, Ah, and I got a little money on the clippers, so I don't know I'm Toronto. I'm feeling good about my Toronto bet. So we'll see how that goes. But A J. We'll letyou jump, man, but always good to hear your voice. We'll do it again. Parlour. Have a good one. You too. Jay Kornegay from Vegas. Check him out at the West Gate. The great stuff. We have breaking news about the Giants Dodgers tonight. Jimmy, you're gonna You're gonna fire it away or you gonna have me reveal it. Timmy just that directing. All right. Ah, Clayton Kershaw has got an injury and he's not going tonight. So the Dodgers are going to put him on the injured list on Timmy. What again was thie injured? Back spasms. So back spasms for Kershaw. Do we know who slides in? Is it? Ross Stripling Stripling was supposed to start team too. So be interesting to see if If Dave Roberts moves him up from Game two to Game one, but it will not be Johnny Cueto and Clayton Kershaw Kershaw out. Justin May. So this is the guy that we actually were just talking to Ned Coletti about? We'll talk more about this. But Dustin may is. The left hander are right hander with big flow. I mean, you're talking about red hair. Guys like you know Danny Partridge from the Partridge family back in the day, but he's got just the wildest mane of red hair You're ever going to see in the guy throws 97 98. Really, really nasty stuff. So the Giants will, obviously that's going to change the way cap put together his lineup because giants of the right hand and line up against lefties, they get a left handed line up against righties. And now Kershaw, the lefties out May the writing is in how that impacts the Giants lineup. We will discuss that and many more things as we walk you towards first pitch. Scott Miller is going to join us bottom of the hour. Marty Lure is going to stop by at four. Farhaan is going to be here at five. Jake's a curveball from Ross stripling in for a strike its own one stripling has been excellent. And he has been super efficient. Twenty seven pitches through three innings for stripling. He throws Duggar takes a little bit low. Not by much. All the ball. It's one and one twenty seven pitches. Three for stripling seventy two through three for Derek Holland. Shift on for Duggar who takes low again all to Duggar grounded out to second in the first inning. If you put the first two innings of the game together. Here's a swing and a high drive right via. Well, hit Belgium is going to look at it is gone. Halfway up the bleachers. Stephen Duggar booming. Homerun giant Joe on the board. It is to one dodgers on Doug his first home run of the year. "And while I get whether saying Jeff probably shouldn't have done that at the same time. Like everybody has no one to blame but themselves because there's no reason you shouldn't gone I leased a buck off off my board. I mean, that's you know, like, click Klay not only is a fantastic player. But like, you know, the fantasy God's obviously just love him. Clearly, clearly, it's it's ridiculous. So he got that he got that windfall. But, but let's let's dive into the club here. And here is the cheapest we need seven p and to our peace. You have to have to. So I want to I want with multiple reliever. Eligible starters on purpose, of course, including peacocks stripling and arenas are the three that I have there and in potentially Ray as well, I was gonna say in potentially rate. So peacock was four orients was three Batanes to Chad green one Ryan Presley three cow Hendrix, four. Ross stripling five my top dog there for pitching join Casey three and Alex race to. So again, those are like one dollars. I don't even know who I'd have gotten to try to go all one dollar because I could afford that Mike ate went for a dollar gross not trying to win for dollar gross. But that was actually kind of interesting. I was surprised that he went that. Cheap was what other lot of one dollar pitchers. That's yeah. I mean out of know Arbroath, June is I don't want any of them in twelve team format like. Because of multiple eligiblity to. Yes, he what he would be in our P. So here's the offense. And you let me know what you think about catcher, Danny Janssen and Austin Barnes for eight seven for Janssen one for Barnes at the Barnes at one in a points was pretty great because his walks are going to going to help obviously he shouldn't have gone for like five or anything. But I thought two or three to be. So I felt like I say a couple of bucks the the corner. I third corner is resource kuenz thirty four max Muncie five there was some injury concerns there that probably a little bit overblown in my opinion. And then Joey Votto twenty-five middle's where I kinda scammed in probably where I could've spent some of that extra pitching cash..

"Porn on those two as well. Like both for sure love Ross stripling and the discounts on Carl's Martinez. ADP over the last week in online championships to thirty to sign me up. I think I got him to sixteen in my aunt championship. Take that that was that was a week plus ago that was like two weeks ago. So I'm cool with that for sure. I also have a bet I'm going to bet with the Welsh where I'm going to either have to eat tomatoes. I got Ross stripling though like tomato, and he's going to be tomatoes or something. They're so disgusting nude really there's oh God. The texture is the nastiest thing like a slice tomato. If you put that on my burger, that's a hate crime. I will take you to the supreme court without a doubt. Because that is absolutely disgusting. How dare you ever have fried fried tomato? That's worse to are you trying to make a piece of poop. Even just did it well done. Well, another thing that you and my wife having common cause my wife does not eat tomatoes. You know, what that's perfect for you. And Jen because we're not gonna mess with your garbage to me knows you should you should strive to be with somebody who doesn't like things that you do foodwise because they're not going to be taking it from you. So you. Hyun to have your nastiest, tomatoes and deny will be smart people in enjoy good food. It totally works. All right. My wife's thinking blackberry pulled pork sandwiches for Jenner tonight. So at sounds so home airy. Airy a barbecue sauce. Yeah. Holy crap. That sounds good. All right. We talked a little bit about these guys. But I'm adding a new one I think it was in the context of cantata or Lester, I don't know about pickle FD, Alex would joy Lucchessi or Cal Freeland who's favorite. Due to. I mean, if Alex would with health was healthy right now. It'd probably be would I've always been kind of a. Yeah. Supporter of him. So I actually to some degree like all of them probably lowest on Luke as easy. I just I mean, how many innings are we going to get from him? Well, if you get four hundred than I think, the I two hundred maybe very good where he could two hundred could be problem. Yes. You know, usually when you get over the three hundred Mark you you tend to serve them a lot of meals. Really start to bring that quality down. I don't know why the projections are. So blow on him in some ways to understand the home yawn. Lucchessi like I understand like the home run rate while why they have it where does because he did have a problem giving them runs but the drop in strikeouts. I don't necessarily get I don't agree with that. Either way. It's not I prefer would. And I think freely and I just love the discount. We're getting he's going so low in all of these drafts people are so afraid to roster. Kyle Freeland I just feel like. You're taking him in a point where if he does turn into your, you know, quote, unquote, you know, traditional Rockies garbage Fisher, he's easily discarded easily couldn't agree more. There is a range of outcomes in which he was the duty was last year..

"So he can be really valuable guy in that role. And he really hasn't even had to be utilized thus far. So I don't know. Are there any other quote, unquote x. factors that we need to mention a pet. Pepple say one thing that now when at that recording time, Ross stripling is sort of on the dodgers pitching staff bubble. He was phenomenal. Strikeout walk pitcher this year, just wind up some sort of homerun treble much worse down the stretch in was reading an article, and I apologize for not recalling who the author was, but the article, it was saying that Ling with tipping his pitches in this goes beyond just your your basic pitch tipping article because it says that when stripling was throwing like Ali immediately picked up on how he was tipping. And I think it was Brian dosier and Rick Honeycutt immediately picked up on on what he was doing on the article laid out in specific detail. Here's what he was doing when he was a fastball. Here's what he was doing when he was throwing occur blast saw that in the thought. Oh, that's really interesting because so rarely do you get explicit detail of how a guy was tipping pitches. And so I went the DO and I don't get it. I act a lot of stripling starts a recent games. I went back to like July and may and I don't. No, I look. Doing if you recall his foot position was supposedly different on the rubber initially in the article, it says that he would do something different from the stretch, and I was like, okay, so, well, his splits aren't actually worse with men on base where, but it turns out Ross stripling throws from the stretch all the time. So when he was throwing a fastball curveball, something about his feet would be aligned differently. Wanna be in front of the other or something, and his glove would be, I think, held a little higher when he was throwing Kirpal. Something was that was apparently supposed to be readily apparent to some of his teammates and a coach. And I looked and I don't know. I thought it would be easy. I thought it would have an easy article GIS supplement, basically an article that was already written videos and images and be like, look, here's raw stripling, but I don't. I couldn't. I couldn't see a thing. I couldn't see a single thing, and I don't want to believe that the whole thing is just setup that it's all lies because the doesn't make sense. But it also doesn't make sense the other way that I can't see anything the the usual. TV cameras should be sufficient despite what was allegedly being tipped. So I just don't know. And I also don't know wrestling's going to be on the roster anyway, so this this doesn't matter for a hill ABI, but still it was very frustrating because ordinarily you'll see an article is like guys been tipping his pitches and then you don't know what you're even looking for and it's hard to find, and maybe it's just an excuse to make him feel better. But this was so detailed and believable, I thought, sure enough. It will take me five minutes spot something. Nope didn't conspired anything at all. The toy is a good gimme post when there's an article like that in a newspaper, maybe that they can't use screen shots or images or gifts and just like describe these things, but you can actually see it. So then just Elvin can come along with his gifts and actually show it to you and just get a good post out of it with that actually new information other than visual. That's that's exactly what I thought. Well, sorry, it didn't work out this time. Piggyback off your posts. So the brewers, I haven't lost since September twenty second, that is a long time to go without losing, obviously, easier to do when you're not playing everyday, but I'm going to guess that streak will end sometime soon, but it should be a competitive series and a pretty fun one. So looking forward to it as for the other one, I think, yeah, these are probably the two best teams in baseball, and it's always fun when to the best teams can match up at this moment..
MLB -- Clayton Kershaw in for his toughest stretch run yet
"It's Madison Bumgarner versus Clayton Kershaw than at Seattle for three. They're really good. Even playing Seattle just swept the Astros in Houston, and then home to Saint Louis, their eight games over five hundred before things get easier with the Padres in the Rangers. But this this next nine games is going to be a really critical stretch for the dodgers and they're gonna have to figure out what to do with the bullpen. I think that did putting stripling in my aid in the bullpen is smart. I think that gives you two more options there and you know, they've had seven walk off losses this year. That's brutal. That's, but I'm not. I don't know why I'm not panicking yet. I, I guess it's because. Nobody else in the division, and maybe this is lack of respect on my part. But nobody else in the division really scares Arizona's pretty good at Colorado is is neck back. They're good. They're not bad or good. They're they're, you know, they had a good weekend. Dodgers open the door for him this weekend. They could've punched him in the mouth and diamond Mexican. But if if everybody in the dodgers who they have in the roster shows up, right. I think you know, tonight will be fascinating game has it's, you know, two years ago, this would have been the two best pitchers baseball,
