"Hung and Stevie Nicks selling the publishing rights to their music for hundreds of millions of dollars. So one can only assume Paul Simon got got him. He made a little money. A lot of money. God am I just want to roll in that money? Does he Did he own the Simon and Garfunkel music? Yes, Like what about art? I don't. I don't know if art any of those songs. I don't know what you have to. I mean, my understanding was he was not always. They were. They did not have a happy friendship, right? Yeah. You know, it was touch. And maybe just because I love Paul. Simon. I think it means that our Garfunkel was a stinker. Yeah. Now I'm looking at, for example. Bridge over troubled water like bread on that is solely a Paul Simon composition. So perhaps one can look at these. The boxer written by Paul Simon. Only Mrs Robinson just taken by Paul Simon. So good man is a genius. No birth to Graceland. You're welcome. Elvis's house. No, the album You can call me. What's the thing on the bottom of my feet with diamonds on the soles? Yeah, that's such a good I'm telling you. That whole album is no. Didn't I Just say, Jane? Yes, way. Re also did you know that they wrote that song for the Graduate, and it's like means nothing, Mrs Robinson. Yeah, right. There's a story about that song. Wait a minute. My getting it right. This'll sound of silence was put on the No, No, no, The graduate, but I don't think it's Mrs Robinson. You know, Here's to you, Mrs Robinson. They just kind of wrote the song without having a Story attached to it, And it's just such a perfect song is my point. Like they didn't know the screenplay. Thank you for that when he wrote that song, Coo Coo Ca Choo, Mrs Robinson, so good, So good, so good, Wrong business isn't that's not That's Neil Sedaka Diamond. "Simon was selling his song catalog. Yeah, he's joined the ranks of some other music greats. I think you and I talked about Bob Dylan. Not that long ago, but Paul Simon has has done the same. He sold his entire song catalog to Sony Music. And the deal that the terms of that were not disclosed, But you know the same with Bob Dylan when Bob Dylan's sold his. It was estimated to be about three worth about $300 million, so you can kind of guess Paul Simon's probably in that same neighborhood, But Neil Young did this recently. Stevie Nicks has done this, and it's kind of joining these music greats that are selling off their their song catalog. So we'll see what happens there. You know, when Neil Young did it, he was very specific about these cannot be in jingles. Thieves cannot be. He had some rules about what couldn't could not happen to his songs. So we'll see. I think more will emerge about about Paul Simon here. But when you think about, you know the late fifties, when he started with Art Garfunkel, just the body of work since then, that's a lot of music.

Chelsea Coaching Carousel Continues
"Lampard site as chelsea the stevie nicks and don hutchinson here to discuss that decision. St let's start simply showy. Was it fair. i don't think he's fear. No the problem is that we're talking about a club that's not normal. We're talking about club that regardless of the name of the manager regardless of the cv yelich or experience or whatever it may be when you lose so many games You don't get a chance to to get back your way. You may have been before you lose games. You lose your job. That's kind of their immortal. And so frank just falls into the into the spot where others before him. Have you lose goodbye. don't they. Size it in the statement. They weren't saying any particular progress under lampard fair. I think that's fair. I do think though he should not have been more time. Try and get his way out about for me to goodful missile and such distances all full still in the last sixteen. The jump zeke's but there's a couple of performances at the end of last season stall will season not worried that three down against west brom come back to three three sat on in game. Gema chelsea will unbelievable for forty five minutes and fought in southampton that drew dot three three will hang towards the end of the game so this being being games where he got himself into goodful. There's one periods on november december. Where the at the most clean sheets in the league and there was sitting On december the fifth on never had them is titled favorites. I didn't get carried away. And nor did frank on each Will not ready for title challenge. Anatomy bottle molested performance. Really worried may done. thousand tuna. Lost lostock could easily have been five six. But i still think you know if you'll wrote abramovich annual no the board of directors at chelsea. You must understand that. Frank lampard chelsea is going to have a difficult time. It's just not gonna come into legend and tried to call plate while cloth Lots in in a pet quality ola and marino. It's going to be difficult for him so when you are in difficult times. I would've thought. I would shut him a little bit loyalty and more only little bit patients and if it didn't work out in a month salmon chelsea was still in his position then tell them to stop in time and just seems a little bit off. What was it. What was the last straw. Well not not the luton game because they wanted strange when you suck someone to win we even. If it's in the autumn of to hold up in the league for example. I think he's an accumulation of things like the boys of said. The results haven't been good enough. He's the manager of the abramovich era with the lowest point tally per game again which is just not good enough. It's not good enough the performances that they've put the way they played no identity and we at the end of january. Now no patterns of plano star. There's nothing you can see really in the game. They played too many defeats sunday in the last six weeks and i think he also pays the difficult relationship behind with marina. Grownups difficult relationship that he had some of the dressing room. Certainly the fight. That tim of hobbies have failed so far to establish themselves in. That team is also on him. He can argue that he wanted can ride. I didn't think the team was balanced. He needed a bit more time. Whatever excuses he can come up with. I think overall is just not good enough and and we've seen in the past sake managers who've won great things like marino konchalovsky and keeping some like sorry like to finish the season and finished with with with a trophy as well for he must have. It was the right time to change and to bring much to what you don. I'm not hearing of drought. Jody morris a texas I wouldn't i wouldn't bombard the Text because a frat will be hutton. And so so. We'll jody morris But front knows. I think he's he said dot stipends not nice disappointed in raleigh saw. I'm not just go back to the bigger picture dot unless i'm naive. When you see other gonna solve show on your say mccullough frontline pod come into the league expected to win the premier league. Expect to get close to wouldn't jump. His legs latte is so difficult and you say we'll all these. I mean. this guy was going to be cycling. They when they failed to qualify for the last sixteen of the jump zig and went out ridiculously early on bodily as well or not. it was under pressure. Walk two months ago. An authentic turn things around episodes slowly. All he's not sitting tilt the league's just think a little bit of patients unfortunately talked about chelsea and night on any monitor patients when they win the league a win the very biggest these japanese. They still pull the trigger. Do you think he's biggest. Mistake has been the when you go and spend so much money on attacking players and you come to the halfway stage of the season. Nobody knows what your front four is going to be. Then i think. I if i'm looking at that from their point of view swirl ho ho long do we give this guy t saw how we're going to go forward because right now you've probably got what seven or eight players vying for four squats and we have had every single combination and we still don't know come come saturday afternoon. Who's going to. Who's going to step forward and plan that front force. Or i would suggest that's been his biggest mistake.

All over new england. I bob dylan. And i love these stories because this this is what the taylor swift it. Which means that they will wake up and actually have some interest in this topic. Talking about my girl taylor. Swift sold her music catalog to what's his name scooter braun. Oh yeah and then complains. After bob dylan sold his music library for three hundred million dollars. That's right And by the way He sold is popularly. Seventy eight which is another one of those amazing miracles. The bob dylan still around still kicking. Well did you hear what he said about this jerry region. But here's what's going to happen you me. We'll be watching You know football game. We're watching wednesday night football thursday night football tuesday night. Football game mini mini games That around these days and there's gonna be a commercial for flow or he'll be commercial for you name it Gimme gimme some tv for apple apple. Lot of apple commercials. That's a good one apple amazon target. And it'll be Some of my friend is blowing in the wind blowing in the wind or something blue. What's blue some blue jet blue. And they'll be tangled up in blue. You'll go what bob dylan. His stuff is going to be of vera readily available companies to put in tv commercials. Because bob dylan sold out. It's bob dylan's if you don't like it if you think you know that he's Not that kind of guy that he wouldn't ever seventy-nine by the way he sold out. He took the money. God bless him his family's gonna why he needs the money but his family is going to be fabulously wealthy for generations but companies like target nap bullen and whatever flow what is flow sell insurance. Press gress yes i defense. They're going to be able to play. Dylan's pay whatever the going rate is and they could play it and you'll hear it all over the place just like you here. You know the rolling stones in some cases or taylor swift and other artists who was amazing. When i read the story it was about some of the other artists of fleetwood. Mac sold theirs for like. I get the number here here. It is eighty million dollars they sold. It wasn't even the whole catalog eighty million dollars. Fleetwood mac and dillon skate. Like columbine could probably name more wallflower songs and he can bog way. Bob dole i. It's right over my head. I have no idea i look. I'm surprised he got three hundred million. Based on the fact that that ship has sailed a long time ago dylan receives a lump sum between two hundred and four hundred I'm not sure what the what. The stevie nicks sold their publishing catalog for eighty million dollars. The dylan portfolio six hundred songs while other bands who have sold their catalogs sold. You know taking the money. Blondie barry manilow and the estates of john lennon and kurt cobaine. I believe john lennon the beatles. Paul mccartney bought them for like a ridiculous amount of money Like eight hundred million. Paul mccartney owns well. Didn't jackson by michael jackson and then mccray jackson and a falling out story there. But there's only one to look up jerry. Three hundred million eighty million two hundred to four hundred million. What did what did brian. Wilson's father sell the beach boys catalogue for another against the wishes without the kids. Even knowing and i think he sold it for like seventy dollars and a coke or something new never spoke to his father again obviously but if the beach boys is the one you would want because of the catchy jingles. Yeah that's true point and that the father sold it for nothing. He had no idea what he had. And what the value of wasn't a guy goes. Hey i'm gonna dig deep here. I'll give you five hundred dollars. Whereas i sold and brian wilson was never the same after it happened. It's a good point. But i think dylan's got a lot of those you know catch even though they you know might be whatever. The revolutionary songs at times they are a change in blowing in the wind and songs like that which will which will fit nicely in commercials. And we'll be sick of them all with and i'm sure he had control over it and limited the exposure but i guarantee you. He sold the rights to some two songs to some commercials. I assume right Yeah i guess. So i mean i don't blame me if you're gonna die soon and you wanna take care of you. Offspring kids grandkids. You say. What the hell. What do i care if not be capitalizing on all the different changes that are going on in the music industry. I bet it's like a five person team that he has controlling the catalog right. Like it's a he. He owns time. Bob no one said a need the money for anything the the couple couple of years ago. Long before covid were dylan on went on tour and performed at three hundred nights in a year three hundred nights in one year deal and he was like seventy five and i don't know anyone that went to see him. He wasn't playing the big rooms anymore but he's just addicted to performing and singing his songs and i must have just an insane amount of money already. I mean just. But it's like what bob cousy sold all his Collectibles always memorabilia. He said what do i need it for. This is going to pay for my grandkids education. And can you blame him for that. I wouldn't. I'm a big lira. Guy when it comes to rock and roll. If you consider dylan rock and roll and dylan for what i again. He's not my bag particularly. I don't have any bob dylan on my phone. But his his lyrics. If back on my i always think that you know if you get ten best lyrics of all time. You don't need a whether they know which way the wind blows is one of the great lines right and i'm with you. I'm a lear. Emma word man to and i love you know singing along to whatever tangled up in blue and he. He won the nobel prize for whatever writing. Poetry didn't show up for the award. You know. I believe. I believe greta thune. Berg was second so she'd go toward for him but no he won the nobel prize. I think he blew the market and show up to get the thing and these the only singer or songwriter to win to win it

Well, let's talk about stuff. So you know we've just you know full disclosure you and I did an interview before over on the sky loon behind the scene podcast that I also host but I wanted to invite you onto this show is well because I want to. kind of slightly different direction and. Introduce you to this week and photo audience as well as the behind the scene audience if you subscribe to behind the scene search for it and go subscribe to that one too. So Yeah. Good stuff. Who is Dixie Dixon? Ukraine. So I've seen your name in fact. I. was just doing a livestream with a friend of mine who's also a Nikon shooter and I said I gotta go I. GotTa Hang Up because I'm getting ready to talk to Dixie Dixon and he's like I was like, have you heard of Dixie Dixon? He's like Have I heard of Dixie Dixon. It's like, have you heard of Prince? So. Tell us how did you get from where you were to being kind of a household name in the in the photography world? I appreciate that so much. Gosh it's been a really crazy adventure. I've had photography jobs. So I started out shooting the cheesy little league pictures shot with film actually was the Nikon F G camera, and so we'd be doing all those cheesy soccer ball like posing with a soccer balls and Just, the team photos and stuff like that, and then I ended up joining the yearbook staff and my image ended up making the cover of the yearbook. So for me, it was like a way to get out of my shell a little bit. I'm very much a sort of an introvert. So it was sort of felt rebellious and helped me get to know people and communicate and have fun and so that for me was like a moment. Wow maybe I could actually do this for a living. So I ended up going off to college I would have loved to majored in photography, but I really thought. Maybe I should figure out the business so I can actually figure out how to make a living doing this. So I ended up studying. Entrepreneurship at TCU and fell in love with the business side and then I ended up studying abroad with a world renowned fashion photographer I literally googled fashion photography study. Abroad. And there was one program through Syracuse University. So I got to go and study with Jeff Licata and listen over in London and Prague and do my first big fashion shoot, and that is when I really fell in love with the fashion photography side of things. So yeah, it's fun adventure I felt like it was yesterday but it's It's crazy how fast time flies and I got a job sheeting TV show and it just all came together. I have so many questions like I'm I'm curious how it works from. A lot of a lot of the twitter audience. Sure as the same question like the. One one path to success as a photographer seems to be fashion right? You got to be a fashion slash commercial photographer. You gotta be that person walking on said and you're in charge and you know the House music stumping in the background and models are doing their thing. There's a wind machine. Blowing. And somebody's up there like stevie nicks with the white thing. So how do you? How do you get there like what's what's the path from leaving school in entrepreneurship going through the internship and seeing how it's done from behind the scenes to building a brand like your brand and being sponsored and representing brands like Nikon? Yes. So it's been I always feel like as an entrepreneur you think you're just GonNa, go a nice gradual progression upward, but it's like. It's an interesting. It's an interesting journey if you will. There's ups and downs along the way. I. Mean my first few years I was shooting everything I was shooting weddings and portrait's and product. If anyone called me to do a shoot I knew how to do it. I said Yes to almost everything yeah. Just to just to pay the bills and whatnot so I ended up up to different websites My fashion website and then my commercial website I mean my wedding website and portrait website. So basically, when people would reach out and they wanted portraits, weddings, I was sent him to that website, and then all the fashioned stuff on my fashioned website was all three work that I had shocked my portfolio. So ultimately, you have to show the type of work that you WANNA be shooting. So I was wanting to shoot the fashion work so you have. To, go out and shoot that work, and then you're gonNA, eventually start attracting those type of clients. So then I started shooting for modeling agencies, they would do like paid portfolio shoots for their models. It started out as free portfolio shoots and then they ended up paying me to shoot their models for awhile and do that quite a lot and then that led to like two boutiques and showing them my work and ask him if I could collaborate.
Ellie Goulding Explains How Bjork (And a Vodka Drink) Made Her Believe She Could Sing
"Be remiss if I didn't ask your your 'cause my favorite artists you favorite bjork album. I have to by default. Say the greatest hits because. I. Don't know how why but I think. Maybe I was voted as a Christmas present from HMV or someone. If you guys have hate, be in America. But yet it was. It was the days of hate, and I think I came home one day when I was fifteen. My soul have performing at the album hole on TV am. I was a bit drunk To like. We're camping in a field. Some wax I grew up in the middle of nowhere in the countryside. Came back like. I was like who is it i? I don't have a head is oh so quiet on the radio. And that's why todd like yeah I never really thought that much other than just dislike this unusual. CENA that Scott this radio Sol, and then when I had her actual. What she she did. It was like it was yeah. It was it was a real pivotal moment. It was like the moment I was like. Oh well, my voice is kind of weird like maybe I can be a singer and it really. It really was that like. It sounds like making that radio man when I was like. Maybe my voice isn't so weird off rule because I just never really had thought to listen to like I was going to be both alternative female singers, so I didn't know who Johnny Mitchell now. Who Kate Bush was in. No, who you know like. Even stevie. Nicks innocent freak out when I was a kid. I was born like techno electric music. So these these these these. Senna's no imaging. History in Five Songs 47: Bands of Individuals
"So this is episode forty seven. We are going to be calling this bands of individuals. I couldn't think of a snappier title. But this basically explains this concept and it's actually a pretty elevated concept If you don't mind me saying this is something I've always felt and it's an episode. I've been burning to do So let's just get to it. I mean essentially One funny thing about this episode is it's not very heavy metal or hard rock. Although I am going to be mentioning a lot of bands that are hard. Rock and heavy metal but my examples per se are not particularly in that field. But I am going to end with a with a classic heavy metal band so So all shall be forgiven. I hope by the end of this. I might mention a few Honorable Mentions Myself All right so we're GONNA do this one a little bit differently. I hope it doesn't go on too long. I probably will shorten up when it comes to the actual entries but I have a little bit of a along intro here so I went to you the fine listeners. And and said hey give me some examples of this and it's kind of funny The example started flowing in and I'm going to read some of those in in a second But what I realized when I was reading these examples is I'm not too clear on what my concept is for this. I hope by the end of this episode and when you hear examples you're GonNa understand what has always been stuck in my brain for decades essentially about bands. That are like this why I think there are certain bands truly truly truly like this. So let's just get on with that so I sent. I sent off a facebook cry for help here So what did I say here so So here's a really cool concept that I'm at four at need one. More as I said bands of individuals and ecosystem is created with a clear north South East and West. It's an ecosystem that has not one world but four five teams that comprise a complex world. I've thought this for years about these four bands. But do you get my drift strode. A few band names and if one of them just hits me like a lightning bolt. I'll know it but I don't want to explain further or debated. Let's save that for the episode. Only one of my choices is remotely a metal band. So that's what I wrote And yet just to explain a little more before. I read some of these Entries the idea here is that these bands create almost like You know you think of a little Snow Globe that you shakeup and there. There's the snowflakes in there. There's this enclosed world that is a weird world but very importantly this world is not one that ends up being kind of a unified sounding thing that a lot of other band's sound like it is a world unto itself that's number one but number two it does have an east west North and south. I mean it. Basically sounds like a world of individual players or Feifdoms that is making this up so doesn't sound like particularly like a unified whole. It sounds like a band or a record or song that you listened to where you can't get the members themselves out of your head when you're listening to it. You don't think the band name you think all of these original members jumbled up together at once. I think that explains it probably pretty well but let me tell you quickly and what I'm going to do here is I'm going to leave out. The bans That were suggested that are actually my choices anyways. And I'm just going to go through some of these very quickly dispelled the notion of why didn't include the more. How they they? Almost clay came close. Oh so we've got vanya Derek. I mentioned led Zeppelin Queen Cream and Russia. Okay all of those are pretty close but no cigar. They had certain things about them. That were almost two unified Long Story But those ones are are all pretty close but let's see Jacob Tannahill said sons of Apollo Mister Big Asia. Any one of them fit the bill and I actually almost thought Asia that I would include But Yeah I think he's getting the point here Sons of Apollo definitely. You know the big the big You know important band members. Asia supergroup The police New York Doll says Thomas Hackney also the pretenders I would say no on the pretenders I would. That wouldn't have come to mind. I wouldn't New York dolls that come to mind. Police is one of my honorable mention so with that band. You know you are thinking This this chicken scratch sort of textured a guitar playing from Andy. You know base. I don't think you think of sting so much base but you think of that vocalist and then also I with Stewart Copeland. You definitely get a unique drummer. That is a distraction. I mean you're thinking of him when you're hearing these police songs so yes that's a good example of what we're getting at here. Augusta Garcia parade. As mentioned the clash. I would say no I don't. It doesn't really fit the bill here. Thomas Hackney comes up with AKS little bit. That's kind of cool. One Eagles Blazed Barshop. Says no I wouldn't say so Going to leave Well no I'm not going to leave this one because I kick them out. Pat conners has fleetwood Mac. I actually was include fleetwood Mac but I couldn't see myself playing a fleetwood Mac song as one of our five choices here but definitely you get the yet. This is a perfect example. And like I say I was one of mine that was on the at the top of my head. You get. Basically these. Three distinct vocalists are all with their personalities and their baggage in their own solo albums. The whole bit Stevie Nicks Christie. Make Christine mcvie his Christine. Yeah and Lindsey Buckingham All very distinct vocalists. And you also get You Know Mick. Fleetwood is the is kind of the the patriarch of the ban. But you had get this very stripped down drumming John mcvie Idaho. Don't really think of him too much in this but Lindsay as well you think of a very distinct Sort of I said chicken. Scratch already with Andy Summers. Chicken scratch makes a lot more sense with Lindsay So again you're listening to fleetwood Mac song or a few in a row and you're thinking oh when's this focus gonNA sing or that one or oh. They're they're doing this together And then and then. Lindsey gives you this very stark guitar Solo And and you get this very sort of straight line B line kind of Feel to a of their songs so that is a ban when you're listening to them. I can't get the members individually out of their heads hence bands of individuals. Okay

"Of that one. Yeah Yeah Sosa. She feels that Bruce like when she met him a couple of times at the kind of things. We're Stevie Nicks would meet for Springsteen Hall of fame thanks. She felt like he didn't he wasn't like excited to see her that he didn't really acknowledge her. And that that understandably understandably kind of hurt feelings and so she isn't like Super Hot and Bruce springsteen that said maybe he just got it. Confused Little Stephen since they have similar fashion because he just saw scarves. And he's like no Steve. Kerr joined the band together. But but but yes that was. That was actually kind of a bummer. To hear but also so she was like she was like. Yeah but that said. I don't remember that I mean she kind of immediacy might not have looked favourably on a submitted by him because of that. But also some kind of intrigued so long story short. I have sent her the song so so and she has a lot of free time. So I'm kind of hoping that sort of like finding out that a rock and roll legend isn't is it true but but then trying to make true anyway. That's one way I'm uplifting myself Burt Robbie what are you listening to? What are you thinking? Lot of motorhead these days really. Yeah lot of motor kind of feel like this wouldn't be happening. If let me was still era. Things like this did not happen with lemieux's around yeah a lot of a lot of A loud obnoxious music It's like a lot of live albums. live albums that are not even necessarily the most exciting live albums but just going cold. Turkey from live shows and live audiences. year listening to live albums that I've listened to a million times. You know like you know what all the time when you listen to. Frampton comes alive near the audience. Really screaming and it's like us must have had a beach ball or something just like you can't hear what everybody's getting so excited about the like all live album moments that. I find myself drawn to do something about the sound of a crowd. Making noise is a very cathartic these days. That's really interesting. And and Yeah Rob. I was GonNa ask you about that You you've been busy writing a big story for us but you're a very frequent concert goer. It's a huge part of Your Life. And that part of your life has for now been ripped away and I don't WanNa even treat that lightly. I'm sure to really intense thing. What is that like for you? And how are you besides listen to live albums which is kind of a genius strategy? I'm how how are you adapting to it? You Know I. It's funny you ask. I have these rituals now. Were basically every day. I make a point of listening to who I was going to see that night. So for instance while all day I've been listening to Pale Hound and adult mom because months ago when we were in a completely different time space continuum. That's that's what I was going to be doing tonight. On March Twenty Six. I was going to be a bowery seeing Pale Hound with with adult. Mom Say I just I listen. Every day to somebody who would be playing that day And not necessarily like trying to you know the carry. Asli recreate the concert in my imagination but just serve to participate in the ongoing life stream of music. Yeah that's that's intense. Who Like who else? What are the other shows? Okay This didn't work so well with Morrissey That the Morsi shed that was canceled the weekend before last but Listening to a lot of Seventies Richard Thomson and Fair Port Convention and Sandy Denny. A lot of that stuff Latta that sort of clay gears kind of you know Celtic folk early seventies folk rock psychedelic but also proto punk in many ways. Does Richard Thompson albums. Really a extremely hit home. Something about sort of Celtic Medieval Dumi. Doronin this other is very powerful. Cathartic these days while I've been turning to Abba trying to find stuff that that makes me feel better. It's it can be hard. I was already in a huge neil young faces like just relentless for the last Few months at least and and I think neil is about to announce something that That will be Comforting for everyone a release that. I can't mention but you know I've been listening. You're such a tease today Brian. I don't WANNA I don't WanNa break an embargo I tell you. I the Yes. It's his collaboration. Springsteen STEVIE NICKS THE WORLD. The world couldn't take that. But but yeah. I mean I. I've been listening to Neil first two solo albums. In fact I went to his first solo album the self titled One which in my whole life. I never spent much time listening to because I always felt this kind of like a curiosity. Almost kind of like a misfire and actually. I don't want to get to deepen this because we might do We might do a a Neil Young Deep dive but I just Kinda felt it was sort of like an anomaly and I never really got too heavy into the self titled Album it so arranged introduced an and newest kind of learning the sing and so I was. It was more fascinating than good. But there's something about it especially in. It's like hippy. Dated Nece that really spoke to me and that led me also to listen to Buffalo Springfield again a million times and I think there's something about everything about that. I might not usually like which is sort of the way that it hasn't aged as well as perhaps some other sixties music and there's a little bit of like hippy. Dippy to it and it's just like a little like it stuck his time in the way that other stuff is that's exactly what what would appeal to me right now because it felt so removed from the the current moment like I just actually literally transporting because it. It feels like you're you're in another place and that's I've also listened to to some stuff from like my high school years just then I usually wouldn't listen to just just to kind of like ground meal a little bit and I think I put on a st album from ninety one and just generally anything that kind of places you at a time and space. That's that's not now. I found Cathartic and and just to just to torture Brittany. I really did listen to I without listening to some songs. Have COME. To Me unbidden sure. That's true for for you to as well like I don't have to listen and they just come and I like if I was going to listen to Bob Dylan. It usually would not be like there always solo acoustic stuff which is just stuff like I I love but just as a you know as a record is not usually what put on but not to be too dark. But it's a hard Rennes GonNa fall was just in my head and felt true in real and it didn't feel like comfort. I tweeted this. Felt like truth and I also just needs some truth you know and so I listened to that and some other really do me shit and that weirdly helped as well. What else Robert mentioned like hippy? Stuff but that's definitely something about the the tribalness of it is very Very comforting look. I didn't know if you remember his seventies movie called Yom Mega Man. Oh Wow we were just talking about that on and slack yeah go on it. Well it's basically it's about real life now. Basically there's a a a a plague that wipes out L. A. And he's the only person left in. La's Charlton Heston and He goes to this movie theater. That in the middle of the Apocalypse. Just you know like this movie theater in the middle of showing the woodstock movies so just goes in. He sits by himself afternoon. Reciting off the stage announcements on and off stage. Banter along with the Woodstock movie just watches over again and funny that like I feel like I finally like totally reach because of I've listened to the entire grateful dead spring seventy seven tour and normally. I'm I'm not so into seventy seven as a dead year but I've definitely seen the light at and I normally normally Amo- among one drummer dead. But so for me. The entire seventy seven. Seventy eight tours are ARE TERRA INCOGNITA. But but in this emergency you've broken the glass on the now. Get absolutely furious. When there's version of scarlet begonias fire in the mountain? That lasts less than thirty five minutes. Like come on this thing about where this is what we've been waiting for but something about like those tribal the tribal moments. I've I find that hippie stuff's in general is very Led Zeppelin three is very cathartic In India which mentioned about like you know a hard means a fall. It's you know it's always. It's doing something else. So it's a song about witnessing something bleak and moving on and telling other people about what you've witnessed and I think that's why you know I've really kind of gravitated to this. Fair port convention records as well that. I'm very These days very attractive music. That looks at something dark and got and keeps moving. Yeah well the. The very implication is that perhaps the singer has has actually survived something dark and so they can sing about it. So there's something cheerful about follows a song and future tense. You know like he's where's he going now? It's he's he's still moving. He's still on his journey. I'm sorry Brittany. I'm I'm I'm not trying to upsell you on early Dylan. I think harding test that we should do a show where we'd just desperately throw doing ideas out at Bernice. She's like nope. Nope nope how about this? How about that rankings memoir? I listened to some of it. I've Seen Victoria secret commercial. This this this has been an episode of of Rob Rob and Brian. Man's played Bob Dylan debris actually similarly. If during this crisis I get really into the grateful dead. It's the same thing with Britney Doan then you'll really know shit going down in like two weeks from now we're GONNA be late Dylan deep cuts on repeat exactly. Yes we'll meet. You meet you here same time. Same Channel Two weeks from now were. Britney will narrate lot John. Wesley harding just listening to it. Live and entire episode on side. Two we find that the Frankie Lee trickster figure and that Judas Priest restrictor figure on this. I'll have a harmonica on to it to be really as Robert say. I'm brand for a second. I will admit that one thing I put on to bring me back to nine thousand. Nine hundred. Eighty two was actually the human touch album. Which even though I wrote an entire book about Bruce springsteen entire Cadillac even. I am not rocking that album very very often it is. I mean but there's something about it like I th there's something about it it. It wasn't so much. Listen to Bruce Album this sort of taking me back to like when I had that cassette of my car I switched between that and never mind and like public enemy album or whatever it was and by the way I've never seen anyone as board on Earth is more Bruce briefly talked about human touch. He was talking about how it was the wrong time because environment and I was like. Yeah those were the tapes switch down to my car and he was like shut the fuck up kid but anyway. I'm not interested in your personal anecdotes but but yeah no just listening to that. Like the title track actually like really hits hard and the warm bath wimpy -ness of it actually is pretty soothing right now so. I think it is. It is not a time for any pleasure to be guilty. Let's let's let's put it that way. We got a break all glasses in case of emergency as far as pleasure right now absolutely and that means every single grateful dead documentary and there's like four hundred of them. There's four so I've spent so many hours listening at all. These different documentaries Mickey Hart giving so many versions of the same speech about. It's time travel music. It's like you know all these documentaries. They all do same content. And I'm here for it all I always. They all have to seamer. Jerry Garcia is scuba diving and there is nothing. I find more comforting this week than the site of Jerry Garcia Scuba diving. You see him under see with his snorkel. Scuba L- Scuba will you can see my technical ability to talk about. Scuba diving is insufficient it. He goes any pets. This deal on the head and and all the deep sea fish they flocked to Jerry Garcia. Because they can stances benign.

The shares had mentioned about having a rib removed, but he did it supposedly. So he could cut out the middleman, and please himself if you know what I mean bending over. Easier to bend over a rib. I know this is true, but she pulls up sleeve one day and she's like, and I got a Stevie nicks tent to it's for the song just like the one wing the sings songs. Sounds like a singing. That's a good song. Yeah, it's and it's, it's this bird, this dove dove. It's one wing, Doug, and there's blood, actually it and see it, but it is blood actually coming out with the other wing was. And as soon as I got done and it's got a boon and it's real tough a skull, and I'm so excited. Got my Stevie nicks to, and I went over to the this bar right after. And I saw my southern friend and I said, hey, look, I got my Stevie nicks to pull up my shirt, and she said, you idiot, it's not a one wing is a white wing. Off. So what she still has it might is the tattoo guy or woman did not say, hey, it's a white wing of out of one winged of, well, apparently if you look it up, a lot of people think he's a one thing. "Back. Yeah. Great song. You can go your own way. What I learned watching that. By the way, is that's when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie nicks were fighting and going their own way. They were splitting up. They were quite the item. Prior to that. And they just got an hellacious fight. So they wrote that song. And it's of course, you know, there's rumors album made them tens of millions of dollars so much money. I was telling the boys that I learned this last night. They would send a private jet. They go pick up their favorite Mexican food. I guess from Los Angeles or whatever and fly it to wherever they were. Now. That's munchies fellas. That's munchies. Anyway, I'm talking about something is far more important than even Fleetwood MAC getting believe this. And that is the fact that we've been sold a Bill goods by the financial planning industry really for years, and I've been talking about this for years. Not not because I'm a researcher, and you have a propeller strapped in my head like those people at Google, you see them the other day. That's crazy. No, it's because I have lots and lots of anecdotal experience and nobody after thirty five years or so of doing this gig. Nobody not one person ever came to me and said, oh, you know, what the inflation rate was up three point two percent. Last year you need to increase my income by three point two percent. Not one time out of the probably thousands of people that I had seen over the years. So on that note, I'm now reading from an actuary who wrote about rethinking a communist sumptious about retirement spending. Here's what he had to say. After examining they HRIS data that followed the median spending habits of retirees for up to eighteen years. The black rock study didn't find the so-called you shaped spending pattern or that retirement smile that we learned about from MorningStar instead median spending adjusted for inflation. Declined very slightly over the eighteen year period for the three groups of retirees studied, the lowest wealth, the median, medium, wealth and the highest wealth. So think about that for just a minute inflation adjusted their spending declined slightly. Well, even if it stayed the same that means all of these calculations we do for post retirement and flation spending are bogus it's causing you to save the have to save more money or spend less money and retirement. So so many people that are so close who are saying, you know, what I'm not I'm worried I have anxiety about retirement shouldn't off to have anxiety. Black rock found the vast majority of retirees managed to keep their spending under their income. In addition. The majority of them didn't experience a drastic spike in spending on medical expenses during the two years before they died that one surprised me to instead the study found that out of pocket spending on medical expenses didn't jump until the ninety fifth percentile of costs among those surveyed. Now, I would still recommend that if you have the free cash flow, and now you do by the way based on this study to purchase some kind of long term care coverage because it's always good to be safe rather than sorry. But this is saying that you're not going to need to have this ever, increasing. Amount of money coming in based on the CPI w which is what social security uses or the CPI you or even the CPI e for the elderly. Because it doesn't happen in real life. I'll read on you can protect yourself from outliving your money by using your retirement savings as a monthly retirement income generator rather than a pot of money you hoard or freely. Spend setup this generated the last the rest of your life. No matter how long you live. There are many methods of doing this with annuities and systematic withdrawal plans and so forth. But what it is saying is you don't need and inflation adjusted annuity, you don't need an inflation adjusted withdrawal plan spending plan. Remember, we've talked about the two point eight percent rule. The four percent rule got modified down to two point eight or two point nine percent because bond yields are so low and the market's done so well. Looking at future anticipated returns of stocks and bonds four percent was even too high. So someone's a million bucks can only spend twenty eight thousand bucks a year of it and people were gone. Oh, that's depressing. Well, I am here to give you a shot of adrenaline. No longer. Do you need to be depressed because this research, and I concur. And if you've listened to me the last twenty years, I've been saying this I wrote about it in my very first book that I wrote in the early two thousands about retiree spending. Why are black rock findings.

You don't sit down with lawyers and business managers and all that that that can watch over your finances. I was watching this piece on Fleetwood MAC, see that piece on reels last night on Fleetwood MAC, the breaking up of the band. Oh my gosh. The greatest bands in history. Unbelievable. Nick Fleetwood, go bankrupt. By by the way, he's got a great restaurant over in Maui, fantastic food. So he's you know, obviously kept his legacy alive. But these guys made hundreds of millions of dollars. They were unbelievable. And they went broke you hear it all the time. Folks. This is why planning is so important. I mean, Stevie nicks snorted so much cocaine and drank herself to oblivion I mean, come on you guys made a fortune. He is a wicked good guitar player. Great singer tremendous composer. I mean, everything, but they I guess the drugs must have got to them. Fighting all the time. If you got a chance to watch that it's fascinating. But it does teach you some interesting life lessons, like this Aretha Franklin thing, you know, if you just focus on some of the basics I remember back when the stock market crashed. You know, there were tech companies that were going down the tubes. And I remember just before the crash I met with a husband and wife, and they add I think it was four or five million dollars of company. Stock forget this dog AMC why one of the lot of stocks that went down ninety six percent during the crash, and and I was doing planning with them. And I said, you know, what guys you've got four million bucks? Here you could sell a million and a half of this stock and sanitize enough money. So that you can meet your basic expenses for the rest of your lives. They had two kids crying in the background. I said that's the college education for the kids. That's your retirement all of the above and never have a worry based on a decent modest lifestyle. Just take that much off the table. Nope. The husband and the wife thing. Got enough fight. The wife is saying yes, Honey, I wanna do this for securities. And no because this company's go onto who knows what we're going to quadruple our money. And so they sort of threw me out the last night. Until I heard about the divorce right after the stock that pummeled down ninety six percent. Sometimes people are just stupid.

"Guess spokesman for two minutes anyway kinda record a record that was made in the early seventies having an impact on a generation that was born well after you know joni mitchell's heyday can still listen to this record and say you know i i relate to it i mean or or does it feel like a historical document rather than a living breathing thing that speaks to young women today i think the record self feels like a living breathing thing that people have any gender can relate to and and young people because this sort of feels like a farewell to the twenties record and that's you know always kind of theme in pop culture that's that's recurring throughout whatever generation is in is in the twentysomething slot at the time but i think that she i read about this a bit that i think joanie is so uncompromising and kind of prickly in some ways that she's hard to reduce into like a gift or a sort of internet i kind the way that like i wrote something about stevie nicks last year too and i think she's someone who the image of stevie nicks has translated a lot more seamlessly onto like internet culture youth culture for whatever reason but i think there's sort of the image and then that is the gateway to the actual music so i think both those artists the music it's really while i think joanie though harder to kind of package and commodified in that way once the music reaches you there's something about it that feels timeless and feels raw and current no matter what time and what generation you're talking about what would you say to the cardi b fan the grimes fan the genome a fan you know the precocious adventurous eighteen year old music lover to say all right all right that's great playlist she got there now you gotta listen to blue words failed to like you kind of just have to sneak that on.

"You know for the whole my gosh i'm losing my that's okay but you had manic monday and you also had stand back but stevie nicks and he played the synthesizer on and if you listen to i mean stevie nicks at that time had never really had any major hits i know she had stop dragging my heart around and she she did do it but if you think about our own hit that was a pretty impressive song i still remember the video and remember that synthesizer part so i mean he went out of the park or the park he he did songs for other artists he did cover songs i remember him and i think it was two thousand and four in the heart and the rock and roll hall of fame where they did tribute for georgia and they did while my guitar gently weeps and prince does this incredible guitar solo at the end of it and that really caught my attention you know that he could do that i had heard a version of him doing all along the watchtower by of course was written by bob dylan but it also had a hinder sport but he did it his way and i think what he was saying is you know he could appreciate good music he could appreciate others creative talent and he could just do his own version of it but when you think about that he transcended time he transcended style you know you think somebody who's into funk i mean he loves james brown he loved the dance moves he loved michael jackson they love they brought him on stage and did it so you know it's gonna be such a such a terrible emptiness waiting for something from prints and he was a lot lately dodd's name do they do this i think a lot of times the stress is so hot the ability to get some sleep when they need to sleep the ability to sort of just get their schedule set up like with elvis i mean it's a tragic thing especially if it's an opiate but you know just the idea that you have to have something to get you.

"And somehow when you can see that light even in the middle of all of that it makes it even more beautiful and more precious even if it's just a glance glimmer some kind of moment and you remember it wasn't always like this i wasn't always like this i didn't always react like this i wasn't always in this state a fear or stress or being worn down by what is happening around me it's even it's deeper than comfort it's the actual rejuvenation of life it's what happens when you have life and you are so sure later we're going to hear the edge of 17 stevie nicks and i chose that because there are some really good lines in there but the edge of 17 she was talking to tom petty's wife and they were talking about when they were seventeen and tom petty's wife had at an a southern drawl and she said aged seventeen and what she was saying was the age of seventeen was steven excite while that is a really great line edged of 17 and that's why she took that title because there is an edge that we come to with each of our lives again and again we come to these edges and sometimes they're just horrifying they can be very very scary and we're on the edge of it all the time and here we are in two thousand seventeen which i never even could imagine what we would it be like to be in the year two thousand and here we are in two thousand seventeen were on the edge threes is on the edge of her birthday into two thousand seventeen and some of the stories of her life tell me that a whole new life began for her at seventeen a whole new way of being a whole new way of seeing things her father had just passed the year before there were all kinds of things that happened that created this way for the edge and the aid judge of seventeen to be this place to remember that which was important that which was pure and you know this song border born to run in a day in the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway merican dream at night we ride through the mansions of glory in suicide machines these motorcycles sprung from cages out on highway nine chrome wheeled fuelinjected in stepping out over the line this town rips the.

"And he didn't you know he he didn't really he did not a schmooze because these thirteen but like stevie nicks has chatting them up and i just thought what a great you know what a great scene here this kid is plucked from obscurity and he's sitting at a table with eddie vedder and and you know stevie nicks and he just i don't know john going around with the restaurant was what i'm sure some fancy restaurant in la and and that you know that's the last time probably any of those people saw him you know what i mean i mean maybe not at the scene over the it'd be like it was just such a fuss citra funny like weird moment um and i think it was kind of emblematic of what a fluke that was and how it was just this real it was like a firework you know just went up and then it was gone so going back to the video itself because he did write a really good second piece of about the anniversary that that when it today where she talked to mark pilkington and tom richmond the cinematographer and a couple of other people just about the video itself kind of separate from trevor story uh and one of the things that i found really interesting in it and i didn't know myself is that there was actually in original version of this video primark pelley to improve in assam be released a single but there is this this version i guess they the kind of filmed of all you on on on we can get away or whatever uh directed by somebody who you know doesn't have the nearly the resume the painting does clearly on a much smaller budget uh and they they thought themselves oh maybe this will be enough because we don't really like doing music videos anyway uh but then ilmor more clinton had this kind of couple of jesus moment and he decide you know what i want to go for the someone work with us band on this and i want to make this best video ever basically so what what what are your impression that original video legal how do you think outreach original video is is of apiece crooked rather to live videos i mean.
