"At the end of the day, Paul, it's a game. And this really brings it back into focus. You know, that picture of Devin will come in the restaurant with his little boy. That was the last thing that he posted. On social media was pictures of the fan, a young fan, and he was letting him wear his national championship ring. And I'm telling you, Paul, I'm a grown man who's going through a lot of hard times. And that broke my heart, like I've never just affected me in a way that I was just because I don't know him from Adam in terms of personally. But I know that what the representation and the role that he played in that community and I'm aching today for all of bulldog nation for all of college football and especially for those parents. Of those kids. Well, I will say this Shannon as uncomfortable as I was a couple of minutes ago listening to the other person. I think we're all comforted by what you said just now because you speak for all of us and yeah, it was just a perfectly normal Sunday until it wasn't. Well, you know, Paul, and I guess he had reached out Devin had reached out to his coach or someone at home who relayed that he was so excited about next season that so excited about the offensive line they had coming back and the expected dominance they were going to have and this is a kid who's from the northeastern part of the United States. He's not a local Georgia guy, red reports on Twitter from some trusted UGA covering journalists who say that like he was the type of kid. I think he wrote a Greyhound bus down to put in the workout for the university of Georgia staff at some point. I mean, he just lived breathed, bled, Georgia, red and black. And I mean, just couldn't find a finer representation of our team and our community. And there's a lot of collective heart right now, Paul. And the young lady that was lost, I think she was from a local community to co a Georgia Stevens county. She was a taco native Stevens county Indian cheerleader and I think it just it's hard that community as well. So a lot of her right now, Paul. And now is not the time to worry about anything other than that. Shannon, thank you very much. We'll take a short break. We'll come back in a moment. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. And welcome back.

I do Well, okay, number one who is the sponsor of the week. Old surety life insurance. Dad Gum. She was listening. Yeah. Now, are you a teacher? First responder Oklahoma law enforcement or military? No, I'm not. Okay, then tell me. Where was the Tahoe this week? Tent systems dance systems. Yes, it was. It was picking up Nia's car, which seems to have dings and dents on it every once in a while, so tell me dense systems is located for you. 1000 and one North Virginia drive northwest of Meridian. Okay, I got to tell you, they are the greatest on repairing cars between Mark hide. And dense systems. We keep the Tahoe rolling. Andrea, I haven't met you before, but evidently you picked up one of our brochures there. So we're glad you called in. Hang on Mike can it's going to get your information and we'll be meeting you. Next week. You start banging grab $100 from taken Happy 100 bags for those of you that you're playing? Yeah, For those of you that did not win this week. Remember, we do tag the Tahoe every Saturday at 9 15. Now I'm excited about our guest in the studio. Today we have Sheriff Chris Emerson and share If you have a new person on your team I do. I'm very excited to have this new person. She's bringing in a lot of Knowledge and experience to my office. And she's really helping get this program going back and cleaning. It was in Cleveland County and went away the Triad program, okay? You know, when I became sheriff identified the need for our seniors, Uh, at the end of my Uh, career, Norman. I was at Norman Police department. In the end of that. I was, uh, over the criminal investigations division there, So I saw a lot of cases coming in. That were our seniors for victims of crime. Especially the fraud, you know, Okay. And, uh, I assure if I really wanted to get a program that we could get the message out there to seniors of how they can help themselves, not be victims of crime and educate them about these. The scams. You know that people will call them on the phone and and really scam them in a lot of money, and it was, uh, broke my heart and I knew that we had to do something about it because There weren't a whole lot of other agencies out there doing it. Well, I've had a lane died on with the Oklahoma Banking love her institution many, many times, and she helps banks stop fraud that Elaine was telling me. This is a million dollar business for some lazy jerk. That's calling seniors on the telephone. And of course, seniors usually have money and they're checking account or they have access to money. So it's kind of like the crooks know how to profile their target. They know how to profile and play on their emotions to write number one crime romance scams were telling seniors now the money that you get every month. Don't put it in your checking account. Put it in your savings and transfer over your banks will let you do that, like five times without charging you. So it's it's helping. It's helping right? Because if you have limited funds in your account, you're not going to be able to get slammed for 500 or $1000 and, you know, That could make the difference if a senior is scam between them eating Getting their medications are just putting gas in their car. Absolutely. It's true part of the raising awareness, you know, and you see the the you know all the scams that are happening with the seniors. You bring Kim in and and so I imagine there's going to be a triad with some councils. Absolutely. Yeah, That's why I brought her in. I really wanted her to, uh, with her personality and her Enthusiasm and that's what I needed in my office. You know, I'm kind of an introvert like to sit back, but she is the one that's out there and she's vocal and she, uh, she truly has hit the ground running, and I'm so proud that the work she's already done and look forward to everything. She's bringing to it. So now you said Triad Has not been in Cleveland County. For what? 10 11 years 12,000 started here. So it started in Cleveland County. We got Oklahoma County going from Cleveland County Because first of all, they had more seniors population. Then you know anyone county and then we got Logan, Canadian Grady Murray and Stevens County, Okay. So it all started in well in Cleveland, the birthplace of triumph, But you were the original person to get it kicked off. It was the first one full time to do this. Okay. I'm sorry as a senior, Do you have to be a part of it to become a member of the triad? I know that you do that. I'm just asking as like, I'm a future senior. But if I'm in Oakland Equipment County, how do I become a part of We are like I had more fun last weekend at the county fairs seeing some faces I haven't seen and you know, 10 plus years and they're all asking that question, Lincoln. We sit down to the table and that's salt seniors in law enforcement together, that's different. Than what try. It is so Triad was met. The name was meant to make us think of a triangle because the sheriff oversees it for each county. That way, we don't leave out seniors. Or crime is much different in South County than it is in West side, Norman. So this brings their police there, sheriff to the table to talk about current crime trends. And many times the tables gets switched and the and I have, you know, police chiefs that come in and they say, Hey, we're having a bunch of car burglaries over here in this area and some little little Sam go. You want the tag number? It's a gray van comes by every day right after, you know, Yeah, right after my soap opera, so sometimes they get intelligence information that leads to citizens on patrol, telling you man, but that's just it, And that's why That's good. Dad was started because seniors feel that you know sense of community and the responsibility to report crime and but then when they're victimized They have such a high respect and regard for law enforcement. They don't report it. That's exactly why Sheriff Charles Fuselage got this going through National Sheriff's Association so we can develop a report was senior, so Salt key core community groups. Where we sit down one on one, and we talk about, you know, prevention strategies, So we will be getting salt. Any listeners out there in Cleveland County. I would love to hear from you. Um 457018636 is my phone number. If you would call me I will be able to talk to you about the expectations of getting sought counsel going and North County, South County and every municipality. Okay, So what you need is locations. All right. We're looking at. We're looking at some. Yes. Um and we're working on an amazing opportunity for the citizens of Cleveland County to come in and and first time ever. I'm so I'm thankful I'm humbled, and I'm just so excited about Beyond our badge. So this is breaking news is Brady on preserved? Okay, Now I can't stand that. Don't just drip that in front of me. Tell me about this. So once again, you know, Citizen police academies have Popped up around the state and and then the nation, but, uh, there's not a whole lot.

Don't pick up the colours. I'll shoot you If you do holders Highlanders follow your general. Oh, that was it. Highlanders Highlanders. Follow your generals almost like the Vancouver Vancouver. This is it that the Volcanologists said That's where he died in £19. It's kind of like a big Regional catchphrase anyway. So Stevens was head of Indian affairs, and that's where the controversial part of his legacy exists because he negotiated all these treaties with tribes to put them onto reservations to make way for settlers to arrive. And that a lot of people say that led to the Indian wars of 18, 55 and 18 56. And while most non native Washingtonians have no idea who Stevens was pretty much forgotten about him, Stevens County is named for him. Lake Stevens is named for, but there's no statues or monuments. Anyway, It's pretty different for Native Americans, and I talked to David McAndrews, who used to run the state Historical Society. This is what he says about General Stevens wants even more interesting is that when you're talking with native people at the fifth I think Steven has just left the room. White people are call him that kind of effect of the 18 fifties and things look long extent period not quite back to the age of the dinosaurs, but halfway there may be but with native people Stephen and is that by like only yesterday, so they still informs how native Americans lived. In fact, I didn't didn't he wasn't he there when chief self gave his famous speech? Yeah, he what he presided over these tribal councils in Walla Walla up it Michael T O for the Treaty of Point, Elliot, where they actually sort of. It was kind of a a ham handed negotiation process to get the native Americans essentially to move out of the way and what Nick Andre said about the treaties being really real and Stevens being there for most native Americans nowadays. I talked to Leonard Force Man. He's the chair of the Squamish tribe. And he described what what the treaties mean to them. And what Stevens means to them. Nowadays, we're pretty familiar with Article five further secured to set Indians. You know that whole thing I know parts of it. I wouldn't know the whole thing inside now. That didn't also the description of a reservation to sections of land surrounding debated this complete, very familiar with that, In some ways, these documents, which are very contested at the time, are the foundational like the birth certificates for these tribes that they use now, and their constant negotiations with the federal government kind of a weird odds from a mix of good and bad. So as Stevens a good memory for the for the tribes are bad memory. You know that I talked to learn about, they said. It's not a personal thing anymore, and that I think the The bad feelings about the about the treaties that sort of long in the past, and now they're just use every day to inform how they interact with the federal government. I read an article which pointed out that X season was quite a short man and that as chief self was giving that speech, the chief Sort of put his hand on his head. Stevens appears just to make clear barely had a very normal sized torso. But very short legs is probably five ft. Tall, They think not that there's anything wrong with that. No, not at all. Of course, historian Felix Banel. Thank you, Felix. We have traffic coming up in just a moment. We want to talk about the ultimate cost.

Biology community they call extirpated But what we lack when we don't have wolves even if we can't immediately feel the impacts here in seattle is that the ecosystems throughout our state get kind of out of wack but to go back to the poaching so there was a poached female wolf in a establishing pack out in stevens county in washington and people don't know who coached her yet but conservation groups really stepped up with big financial rewards. And there's a lot of upset and emotional response to the poaching of this wolf and people tend to poach wolves when they feel that official bodies tasked with keeping them in line. Aren't doing their job. So you know. There's a ranching community in washington state. That feels like this building. Wolf population is encroaching upon their livelihood and safety but reintroducing wolves to washington state which was honestly doing mostly of their own accord help stabilize these ecosystems that we care about apex predators like wolves help keep populations of smaller carnivores and herbivores in check and because they tend to target wake members of both populations they improve the overall health of all of those populations and the more intact and biodiversity ecosystem. Is the more resilient is in the face of climate change so if we want forests that can withstand you know building heat. We want to make sure that we have species at all levels of energy transfer through the ecosystem in stable populations. So that things don't go out of wack and we don't have some species linking in or out in ways that make it harder for other species to survive you. Refer in the peace to the kind of and culture of this one person used the quote quotas. Someone as saying wolves are democrats. Yeah no. I thought that was really interesting. So the reason that i looked into this piece was when i saw that there was a emotional human response to the poaching of this one wolf. I was thinking about okay. Well what do we lose when we lose one wolf. What is the actual impact to this. Pack what is the impact to be wolf population as recovering. And what is the impact of people and the comment about wolves. Being democrats really speaks to the fact that the poaching of one wolf which i found can really impact a single pack as it's trying to establish especially if it's small especially if the poached wolf is a breeding female..
