"A lot of you have expressed. My reading was really thrown off in twenty twenty. And i still read things i read a lot of nonfiction but it wasn't with like a lot of joy and even in the beginning of twenty twenty one. I couldn't read the hardly anything. I couldn't keep anything straight and i read some kind of buzzy. Bestsellers didn't connect with any of them. And i'm just not sure if it was my mood or what it was but in the last few months this spring i feel like my joy of reading has really come back and that makes me so happy. That was number nine my to read list okay. Number ten might last favorite thing for this things episode number. Ten is my new private podcast on patriotic. Called secret stuff. You knew i was going to go there right like you knew. I was gonna list that as one of my favorite things because it really is. My new favorite thing. Secret staff is going to have bonus content from ten things to tell you. We're going to have a stephen king book club. I'm announcing those titles next week. So if you wanna be a part of that you need to sign up right away. Currently the secret tapes. Which is the interviews. I did for my book share stuff. I'll go first. They live over at secret stuff. And i just had so many ideas for the kind of content personal and bookish and just extra topics that don't seem to fit anywhere else. Don't exactly go here at ten things to tell you their stuff. I really wanna talk about and talk through or it's extra deep dives for the things that we do talk about here but we want to go kind of another layer deep. All of that is going to be at secret staff and this is something i've been thinking about and planning for for so long but it's not my favorite thing here like as a plug. It's my favorite thing. Because i'm genuinely excited about it and i'm proud of myself for launching it. Listen i'm a girl who blog d- for years for free. You know who held myself back from doing things to the next level for a really long time. Because i had a lot of fear around it because i had a lot of weird feelings about you know making money which. I shouldn't have had those weird feelings. But in retrospect i know i did. I spent a lot of time working on the internet for free. And so for this here. Twenty twenty one for me to have both launched a book and launched a patriotic on. This has been a time for me of a lot of personal growth. What a lot of letting go of some old ideas that i had attached to my identity and some old ideas about earning money or declaring my work to have a monetary worth and launching secret staff or asking you to buy my book share yourself. I'll go first. These have been two of the scariest things i've done in my work life like ever and i've done them in like four or five months time span and as i've done them i have lost the fear around them like doing. The thing erased the fear of the thing..

"This is already wildly out of control. This is i think. This is the most manic recording. I've had an agent that's me. That's one hundred percent. Natalia powered italia vibes this is the mid show. Were talking about social media. We have an instagram. That comes alive every october for inc. Tober I do a stephen theme stephen king themed doodle every day for the month of october. Unfortunately we do have a facebook where you can Follow us for on the show as well as a twitter where we will also update the show as needed and also a great way to get in touch Most importantly we have a g mail. That stephen king book club a g mail dot com. That's be o. C. l. u. b. boo glove dot g mallakam where we sometimes engage in literary debates or. We get cool fun facts from our listeners. Once someone sent us a bootleg of the original carrie the musical castro quarter. And i still living off that high. So if you'd like to say hi as well please feel free. High wheels patriae on which is a great way to support the show monetarily We don't make a whole lot of making this. You might imagine if you would like to support the show. So you've definitely poke. I'm i'm definitely. I'm currently making some memes for you to post but i am actually currently working on a local New england indie film called butterfly queen. i'm learning building props for it. It's very fun. It is about getting your gosh. Darned dust front back and We're hoping to we got a little bit. You know Delayed by world events but were hoping to get all the filming done this summer and hoping to come out in spring of twenty. Twenty two If you want to check us out we are believed. The website is walrus dice productions. That's the name of the production company Pleaseconsider thrown us a couple bucks because we are a local indie film. We are definitely like from the ground up a lot of our college students or recently graduated and we just want to make this movie come to life and let me tell you. You wanna see the scarecrow. I made i mean it with a real now. Scope it's spooky is heck. I love that. I can almost guarantee you. That phoenix is going to hear them for fun. Shit yes all right with that. We're going to take it over to needful themes our literary analysis section for those of you who are joining us for the first time for leases story a you've got great taste and be. This is where we lay out. Some hot takes this can be about literary history. It can be about the themes of the book. It can be just some cool stuff. Who are thinking of but it is timed we have four minutes exact to get out our thoughts and then we are cut the hell off. It's hardcore because allies. We will go on. Go on forever we will. We will go so natalia. I will be talking about the the wideness of writers and stephen king kind of a muslim talking about just some thoughts i had to be. What are we going to be talking about. I am going to be talking about Lee story as in orpheus in urizzi retailing and also how our relationships are inkers cool. We've we both are going to make a whole lot of sense. Who wants to go first. You can go first steven. Because i have the time or pulled hell. Yeah let me know when to get rolling all right. I'll count you down three to one so as we've talked about a few times on the show. Stephen king has a bit of a tendency to feature writer protagonists in his book. Just to list the writer protagonists that. We've come across on the program so far. We've got jackie torrens from the shining. Gordie lachance from the body. Richard hagstrom from word processor of the gods. Build them bro from it paul sheldon for misery. Both bobby anderson and guard from the tommy knockers that beaumont from the dark half morton ramey from secret window secret garden. Richard kennel from the road. Virus heads north mike end zone for fourteen. Oh eight mike noonan from bag bonds and the graphic novel clayton riddell from so many of these characters are naturally kind of loosely autobiographical bill denver brochures a main connection thad beaumont and more rainy both share a pen name connection and jack torrance represents some of the dark impulses of a frustrated author along with these writers were also occasionally introduced to spouses a few the more dynamic examples include from the shining. Joe noonan's ghost in bag of bones and elizabeth beaumont from dark. Half who at least gets like a dedicated action sequence. Lisa's story i think is good to read in relation to king's earlier bibliography in no small part because it centers the narrative around the writers wife in a way which we haven't really seen before so i thought it might be cool to take a moment and do some compare contrast with his wife characters starting with perhaps the most famous wendy in the shining so to start with looking at two different narrative forms. Here the shining has a kind of pseudo omniscient bishara narrative which assumes a variety of perspectives including that of jack danny along with wendy whereas lies. This story has a more specific third person setup which only deviates from leasees perspective when she herself is reading something her husband wrote right off the bat that structural difference indicates who and what we're supposed to focus on the shining is interested in telling a story about a broad situation whereas lizzy stories just that. Lisa's story. kind of ish. We'll get to it to keep on this comparison lisi's character arc differ significantly from wendy's in some ways in the shining as jack descends into madness. Wendy reacts by becoming tougher more protective and more self sufficient lisi's arc is much more influenced by gothic media. She deals with a cascade of seemingly faded events which unveil a dark trouble troubling history of own sort of. This is where things get fuzzy for me because lease story isn't really all that interested in lisi's history at all. The narrative payoffs are mostly stops along the lifespan of her dead husband. The titular lisi's story is a final piece of trauma memoir. She reads from her dead husband which helps her closure for her grief. Strange dynamic compare this for example to the closest contrasting book in structure bag of bones b. o. b. is also about grief and a trail of clues left by a ghost. That story feels more motivated by the protagonists direct action than lisi story. Does mike noonan is in massive grief but he also falls in love and adopted daughter. Lisa gets more and more into scots fantasy world and is haunted by scots demons. It's a strange arc for a character who has long dealt with being in the shadow of her husband. I don't think it's inherently sexist republican matic or anything. It's just weird to center a book around a character whose entire emotional journey is about her dead husband's.

"Arts and crafts those two autopsies. That happened in this book. And i don't know if you knew this chris but you can just like do dissections as a hobby which is something that real people do. So we're going to go down that ratatouille does a little bit. I wrote this entire segment without any of your help. What's your kind of vibe. How do you feel about this. What about autopsies. Yeah about home. Dissection kits a little weird a little weird. You know the fine line between a home. Autopsy out of curiosity and a serial killer is a fine line. Yeah you know it's fine. I looked up. I actually googled. Why i go to the y. One might do this. I like the national science. Teaching association had a three point explanation. One develop skills of observation and comparison to true to true okay to discover the shared and unique structures and processes specific organisms. Still a little serial killer but unintuitive yeah and three develop a greater appreciation for the complexity of life. Now that one's the gospel truth. That one's true. Did you ever have to do actions in school. Yeah i did a fetal pig in high school did a fetal pig. Yeah that's i think. The spookiest option. I did have a frog. A worm in and owl pal it. Yeah i did the frog and our pellet middle school high. School is the fetal pig. How'd that treat you. I'm sensing a little bit of reticence. Just a pig. The grossest thing was still had by food in its colin. You had to be careful or else you would get little shit on your hands grow. Yeah that's just a pig news dead this conversation has you thinking yes. That's firm e. We'd like to talk a few things. there obviously some ethical and practical concerns with home autopsies. Out really think this needs to be said. But the stephen king book club does not suggest or condone the use of human cadavers or live humans in hobby dissection for reasons that should be readily apparent. Especially not live. Humans don't do that. That's bad form for sure There are basically two ways to get home. Dissection materials One way that i would suggest is maybe Better than the other. But we don't take judge on this program you can get just kits from educational supply companies like one off kits. You don't need like by like a middle schools worth of of stuff you can also locally sourced from from your environment From your environment. Yeah so like if you have a backyard that backs onto a road or whatever and you notice that there is roadkill. I'm sorry. I thought you were talking about the tools. Oh no tools not the actual cadavers. I if you shouldn't go thrift for dissection kit materials. That's probably not your best choice. Does action materials here was a euphemism for dead animals for sure. Okay yeah there's pros and cons for each approach educational supply companies definitely ensure these safest experience. But it does cost money. If you're gonna find like a locally sourced found carcass that carries a way higher risk for disease. The body's going to require a lot more specific treatment. Before you can kind. They'd get in there if you will. I don't know. I put this segment here. If we're being honest. I'm in way over my head i committed. And yes that is the brand my google search preferences or are all fucked up now. Yeah i was going to say. I can't wait for the spotify ads. i don't know what they're going to be. I need to know so yeah. That's kind of my my note on that is there's a lot of dissections piece. I think that those actions are really cool. at anatomy is fascinating. You know it's it's an interesting topic. I personally won't be doing any of this but if you are in search of a hobby and you don't want to start a podcast. You're not really into painting but you are into like. hey. I wonder what frogs like inside out then. This might be for you this. You're going to start up a home section me. i think i got a few other hobbies. I wanna burn through before it. How far down. The west is it. Is it like before or after a crocheting after after. okay. I can respect that. I am going to send you a crocheting kit. And if you don't like it and then going to send you guys action can. That's a threat not an offer. Well the segments certainly did put the dirk into the dark arts and crafts.

"Of those two things. I wrote this book. This is the family guy joke. Reference of the dark tower books like this is just however eight hundred pages have felt like people being like. Hey remember that thing. that was also good anyway. Here's casual racism when you get down to his songs zana's an action book is fast paced. Everything happens the next time. It's full throttle in that spirit. I want to recommend something equally equally kind of out of its comfort zone. Which is the horror action. Survival game resident evil for which is currently in the remake cycle. It's a third person shooter. It's a very action. He game in a series of what had up until that point been very very horror oriented games and it's been adapted to pretty much every major system. It lives on in some strange ways. It's gone a lot of flaws. It's got a lot of rough edges. And so i think it's actually a very good companion to song of susannah in terms of this did a few things that it wanted to do really well and you can see a lot of the wards so go. I just want to bring up one point from the book The Cottage is sort of guided together and I wanted to get your input on this Dave sure the sequence where they had that one kid who was playing with them. But all the other kids are there is like he's like they feel implicitly that he isn't the one and he says half it like they are hanging out with some dude as a kid and that kids just looking for new friends and they're like killer clown this motherfucker. I don't know what it is about him. Your fives are rancid be gone from this place. Exactly did not pass the vibe check. Yeah. No, but it's it's a really good book. "Song. That is correct. Again, Cam and Steven both get the full points University of Maine. Hell, yeah, baby, right? That's what's up. Like yes, let's just stick with that stick with this caliber of questions. This is great. I appreciate this is an ego boost kind of trivia. OK wage game show announcer voice. The Phoenix has adopted I think are you like possessed what's happened to you? You talking about? That's how I've always. I've always topic. It's me your good friend Phoenix crackers here to keep you grounded Bubby that Like you can't find the way I've started calling Phoenix Bubby. I don't know what it happen bail. He's just he's Bubby for life. Now. He's Bobby for life. I like it home sweet. Hi sweet Bobby Baker. He is now. I'm going to have to call it. Now. I'm going to call Phoenix. I because I know this now instead of Phoenix is but hashtag puppy forever home. Okay. We are now on our third question ramping up in speed a little bit here in what year was The Shining published? Hi Jesus. And we get points off. We got these wrong you sure do I do not have great confidence in the sensory. You are both incorrect. Was it 80 to The Shining was published in the year 1977. Although I will note that cam gave us the year of the movie. Oh, okay. Okay, so that that's where I got confused. Okay here is your next question. What is Stephen King's Daughters name? I know this one. I don't know if that's correct spelling but Naomi right and both Steven and Camp get it right again. Niomi is Stephen King's Daughters name? We are back and neck ye I really want to win this bundle of Stephen King book club swag that I certainly have. No access to otherwise, it will not send me any thoughts stuff see that that's why I should win cuz I want the swag. I don't like going to send you the swag either one. Obviously we both are going to do I did say that the winner gets into heaven, so If you've got an audience with the big man upstairs, I'm sure we could both use it. It's really funny. I just you know, I just got a new car and we have one of our patrons has asked us a couple of times if we plan to have any plans to make a bumper sticker and now suddenly I'm like, you know Steve it's not a bad idea wage we should do that is kind of so, that's probably something I've going to be putting together here shortly God's mobile question 5 p.m. What is the name of the actor who plays Pennywise the clown in the 2017 It remake. I'm going to butcher the spelling of this name. What is that kids name? I love that dude your rules I do too. But I can I cannot remember even you going to stop off up the answer before word? Listen, I trust cam. Okay McCain's like don't trust Ikea the first week. I can't remember his name saved my life that I like him. He's a good actor and Steven gets the answer right in his name is Bill Skarsgard. God bless the Skarsgard family. We need a scars on the program at some point any of them selling all of them are if anyone out there is like 7° type deal if you're like within three degrees of separation from the Skarsgard police. Yeah song please we need skarsgard's. Yeah, that kids great wasn't in Castle Rock too sure was yeah and he's so good in it. He's so handsome to O he was in the devil all the time, recently, Georgia. Extremely good. Yes, isn't he? Excellent in that? That was so good. So good in that question 6. In what state does the book and movie Misery take place? Oh, no, it's between one of two for me and In what state does a Miss I'm a big fan of fake fan. We have fans all over the world. That would have just crushed you both in this game. I know we do offer. All right cam has guests New Hampshire and Steven is guessing. I'm guessing washing Washington at your home. Super duper Wrong song. Misery takes place in Colorado. God damn it. I second-guessed myself. Stephen King doesn't exactly use a ton of States repeatedly, he's got his faves. That's for sure. Yeah. I definitely it wasn't main so you knew that Ralph. I knew it wasn't Maine so it's like where else is there, you know right away what class of vehicle what class of vehicle almost killed Stephen King in nineteen, ninety nine your birth. There's options are a sedan a Mack truck a pickup truck a van or a motorcycle. What kind of vehicle almost killed Stephen King in nineteen? Ninety nine. I have my answering that's correct. It is a van. All right. The score is currently 45 2:30 with three questions left in the first round. We are not that far away type competition here in the future fans are loyal to this and just passing us so hard they're tearing their hair out for sure with you. We've we've lost half of our Westerner base like home without question. They don't believe any more than any of us. There's lost faith. There's like now now fucking Caesars question 8 Name one book by author Joe Hill. I can a multiple that there's a good writer. Oh, yeah, he's great off and they've both given correct answers from the list. They choose Heart-Shaped Box, which is on my to-read list. I've also read Nosferatu which was super spooky great audiobook on that bad boy recommended. Thanks for the recommended readings. Yeah, man. Yes. Okay, Rich. Stephen King title has the most years between the publication off and the adaptation which Stephen King title has the most veers between the publication date original of the novel and the publication date of the adaptation. Well, hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I think Beach World km has guessed The Dark Tower Steven.

I don't even know what that is. It's the thing the kids are doing it's it's a off-peak Instagram account. "All right here's the title of my needful. Teams. Today, Steve. I have to do my title i. Truly dislike you for this decision. An explanation of King's comments about hell in that feeling, you can only say what it is in. French from everything's eventual short essay by Phoenix. Crockett. Read and recorded by Phoenix Crockett by Stephen Misano Asano of the Stephen, King Book Club. I hate you for that. That's so funny. Fuck you. You've got. Four minutes on the clock. Let on your ready Race Echo. There have been many versions of hell outlined in folklore and religion. The hell that we know of a post death realm where bad souls go to be tortured is pretty specific to Christianity and Islam. Other religions just think of hell as the underground world that all people go to after death like you know hades shoal and stuff while still others like Hindu think of a shitty inbetween world with soul waits for an available body to reincarnate into with some subjects believing that the Shittier, you are the further back you are in line. Because spirituality is so personal many people have super specific ideas of how often influenced by old defined comedy as the best example and knew everything from Spongebob Mitch Albom Media. For example, my pastor growing up was super specific that hell is a desert wasteland where you walked in your normal physical human body endlessly forever while your skin was on fire feeling the pain without ever numbing or succumbing. In kings that feeling you can only say what it is in French, he goes on a mini rant about how he personally views hell which is a realm in which a person is forced to relive something shitty. And over again for eternity. This is interesting because the idea more closely relates to immediate presentation of purgatory also called limbo. The movie groundhog's as an example of limbo isn well as examples in. Dime forgetting the name of the Leo DiCaprio movie. Inception. and. The show loss is an example of purgatory in Dante's purgatory. It can't be overstated how much dante unintentionally influenced modern spirituality when he was writing a monstrous but ultimately silly allegorical poem. Is a mountain with levels of spiritual growth. Only the Catholics today speak of purgatory in earnest Anne ways. King specifically calls outsider as being wrong about hell when he said that Hell is other people. Review jean-paul cider whose name is impossible to pronounce it any language? said. Hell. Is other people. Just, say it would a whole damn play about it and a play that really matters to some people. The play has called no exit, which is kind of a bad re translation of the Latin in camera, which means behind closed doors. In it three people who are vaguely aware of Bayer dead. It initially are led to a finely decorated room I faceless valet. They discover that this is hell that their time with each other. Sorry this is held their time with each other as health and they drive each other up the dam. Wall. In their realize day sucked they were shipped people in their real lives. Oh my God I just realized that this is what the good place with Kristen Bell is based off anyways, and now they have to endure each other forever. Sartor isn't really making a point about hell in this play, he's making a point about technology a word which I cannot say with any inflection except sarcasm he's saying how people's views of themselves and therefore their entire being. Is. Largely constructed by other people's approximations of them and how reflections of negative behavior are often just that reflections i. If everyone in the room is an Asshole, your asshole that kind of thing. That is all to say, sometimes, king comes up with with couple liners are one liners that need a lot of literary explanation. In this case, he basically said one little thing where you have to be like. All right. So what is Hell? What is being? Who Was John Paul Starter? What was no exit? What did it mean is purgatory a thing Dante's involved. The End. Nice you had like two seconds left very good work bitching. Yeah I love this topic. Because I think that it like horror kind of literary theory. You can tell a lot about society and about a group of people by what they view as the worst thing to endure. Right. So I if the worst thing you can think of to endure is a physical pain like say being on fire forever wild thing to drop in the middle there by the way welcome that. Like, that says something very specific about how that group views existence right I believe that for like twenty years. So it's it really is a big part of people's lives to right. I mean it's the consequences. So yeah. I'm just fascinating topic I don't know enough about it to speak on it very much. I. Appreciate You doing so and also your fuck pronouncing Sata Salta us. Stop. Excellent. I'm ready to go whenever and I don't even need to say my title for his because it's not stupid and lying and obnoxious I three. To One. Stephen King and the instill image. Everything's eventual includes a short story, which for me clarified a less talked about Stephen King trope which occurs again and again in the S K Kannan the instill image by this I mean photos, paintings, sketches, and other visual media which should be static images, but for usually supernatural reasons are not The road virus heads North is a horror short story about a man whose curiosity compels them to purchase in unsettling painting of a bad looking dude on a motorcycle traveling the American highway. As it turns out that bad dude is all too real and his hunting down whoever comes to own his painting. Now, the idea of the changing picture is far from new. The changing picture is a Ho- a trope in horror and also fantasy, but that's not my specialty which has been around for a good long while debatably the picture of Dorian gray being a piece of fiction is its most iconic use in horror. And as I was thinking about it, I realized that King himself has played with this trope abundance in it. Penny wise makes his way through what should have been a static photo of old dairy in rose matter. An entire world is held within the confines with restore painting in the Sun dog a Polaroid Camera spits out pictures of a Hell Hound, coming closer and closer to the aperture until eventually breaks free into our world and in fourteen hundred eight, which we will be covering next week the hotel room paintings shift and changes the room distorts into madness. So this begs the question why What is it about this trip which makes it keep popping up and kings work what follows are some of my thoughts with all analysis this might ring true for you or it might not feel free to reach out with what you think. So I, the obvious our fear response is caused by facing something threatening and or unknown in all of these examples king is taking something normal and twisting it into something abnormal. This has the same effect is jump scares do in horror cinema when used sparingly, these tropes can create a sense of omnipresent danger. If after all something as usually neutral as a still image can change become a threat it begs the question what else might become a threat this. Is the same logic which makes the topiary animals in the shining scary or the truck in Uncle Otto's truck aside from the fear factor. However, there are additional thematic uses for the instill images in horror photography in particular is seen as an art form, which most proves an objective reality photographs then are scary in a particular way when they misbehave not only has the normal become abnormal but objective reality as we know, it may prove to be an illusion. All still images, paintings, photos pick your poison can also serve as portals to the past it in particular benefits from this kind of thematic resonance. When we see pennywise catering about in an old image of dairy, we understand that pennywise was there and the horrors of the past will shortly become horrors of the present. Images and media can also be portals which remains true in Stephen King in rose matter. A whole surreal world exists within a painting placing that book firmly into the fantasy genre, but also commenting on the escapist capabilities of art in the humanity. Some of these portals are not so benevolent in the Sun dog part of the horror of the ever approaching dog is it's mysterious origins the sun dog humming but from where. Keep an eye on things. Yeah. The UNFIL- image fun. Yeah Right. It's the kind of thing we're like I hadn't thought about it but just because we spend so much time reading Stephen King I was like I've seen this somewhere..

"She was crazy but she was also annoying I'm like, Oh, it makes me so mad again look my heart is racing right now. Like I know I was filled with rate and then I looked up bad reviews of the shining I looked at batteries of all of my favorite books and I thought okay. I'm fine with us. We're GONNA line with this. GonNa live through this. And then one of my friends read my bad review, which was again like a three depressing characters in meat and a depressing way. It was a bad the end did tie it up and my friend red my review and they said, well, she made it to the end. Your ass. Like, Hey, that is a good thing to think she read it all the way to the end. She hated it but she read it to the end. She did say at tied it up at the end up. Honestly like I'd have been worse, it could have been like a hated it was boring and the ending made no sense. She was paying we ever that reviewer was they were paying attention enough to know that things had been tied up so whether they know it or not the story grabbed him. Yeah. So so that's when I became you know. A little bit emotionally better with bad reviews. But now now, just like anything else you need practice, you just need practice for fun. Now I do look aber views of my favorite books though or like any book that like. I like POPs into my brain if I've got like if I'm on the exercise bike and I'm like, Oh, I wonder what somebody said about Paul Tremblay's had full of ghosts, which is a modern classic Oh people hated the process. Be Fine with having to throw things away. But also be fine with showing your work to other people to make sure. His. The raft is a real story. Yeah it's early October. Vote No wonder these kids. Yes they die they do they do all di Ra horribly. I mean they should have known better. Yeah that's fair. Talk Tober assume. Its main because Stephen. I just wanted to know that I changed my lie about the river. The Woods mid-sentence because I realized it was a bridge too far. I was originally going to tell you that the forest ranger was also a ghost. Yeah I was like this story seems to obvious I could cheap throwaway store. Yeah fake. That one's fake. Yeah I guess more like Middle School. Yeah Kid right so horror book to be fair. There are a lot of Stephen King's synopsis. That are like bad. Like there's one that same collection called here there tigers which is about a middle school student Who is afraid to go into the boy's bathroom because there's a tiger in there? I mean I would also be afraid to go in the bathroom Thursday tiger. That's Fair Bureau wise ladies. Why why like this relationship I have ten to reform questions. Okay and I'm going to try to get them rapid fire. I don't have a hard stop on this but I really wanted to be like your gut reaction. Can you want my gut reaction I do? Have you been holding back? What are you hiding? Okay ready all right in. Stephen King's Carrie. A hardcore Christian character refers to other characters breasts as dirty pillows. True in Stephen King's the Tommy knockers aliens invade the planet earth and create devious contraptions such as a psychically controlled killer Roomba. I hope that this is true. What's your answer true? Stephen King wrote in scrapped an entire book about Techno Vampires in the late nineteen ninety s which has not been published to this day false. That's fall to absolutely of public. Stephen King was a high school English teacher. Before writing in selling this best civil selling novel Carey. I know this is true now. "Means that I would like to take it to our next interstitial segment Phoenix to do is take us then. We got three things we're GONNA do. You WanNa do a brief recommended reading Due to library policemen segments. Let's get back to back the recommended reading I WanNa say is that when I was preparing for this episode. I was listening to an album of Goth cowboy music. This has been trying to get me to listen to this goth cowboys for the last seventy two hours straight. I'm not gonNA shut up about until he's heard the whole album. I'm GONNA had every single morning morning in like. Hey listen to the comment Hacia. Listen to the comment. It's unbelievably good. And there's a lot of good horror stuff. It's the it's very S. K.. Invested here at he you would put his check mark on the comment. I don't know anything about the group another Brooklyn based but they're two thousand fifteen album that self titled it's a Great Kerala to what we've been reading about. Yeah I'll do a recommended reading as well. This is kind of a season season. One overa- reading this is the the for the the entire kind of aesthetic. What we're doing here? I want to wreck Amand The TV show twin peaks obviously go watch twin peaks. Not because it's necessarily related plated to Stephen King's tropes because it's an example of really deeply American and Americana horror that has continued to inform pop culture and also because it's good and I like to go listen to in watch twin peaks. Do it obviously go check out those peaks both of them mm-hmm. Let's take it the rebel. Lloyd's WE WANNA talk really briefly about a race thing. Yeah it's not a Stephen King Book Club without shoehorning. Some interesting social stuff in their expert on it so we've talked before the Word Wanna which is w. a. n. a. unfortunate. It's unfortunate and we. We took it as racist Gobbledygook Yup in our library policeman who you have just heard on the call from beyond as unveiled as being Bryant. Bryant sent me some research that he did he. I saw the word on a poster for from Russia with love and he traced it back a little bit more a little bit more to sixties. Bob Hope movie called Call Me WanNa and so in Swahili. It means master but has entered the English language. It means something a little more like boss Hoss or Sir. Yeah UH so ill not gray no. It's not great but he went back into the parks where it's used in often. It's being used used as a genuine dialect of people in a time. What I don't understand is why the hell it came? I'm up in the Talisman. Yes yeah in the Talisman. It's pretty clearly referring to that set of tropes of the like African in vague mysticism in my opinion. Obviously everything in this asterisk. We're getting into speculation. But but I do still fank. I'm glad it's not nothing that makes me a little more comforted it's gook it is when it's used in misery it's it's Paul writing about a time in a place where that word was said by Senate yes fine. That's good in well in the context though Oh of a kind of imperialist fantasy of Africa as a place where a the white people show up immediately the boss in the situation right to do and also in the context of Africa as the dark land of mystic whatever which but anyway away and now we have our answer. Thank you live replace. Yeah seriously super cool digging that like I tried to do that research and I failed. Which means that? I'm either a lot worse at researching than I thought. Or just we've got a really heavy swinger on our side. Thank you our library policeman. Strong word think Bryant. It might just be a better person than you. It's entirely possible. I live in fear of this every day. So we're GONNA move onto the Rep. Lloyd's Brian talked a little bit about the Rep Lloyd's in our call from beyond. Let me just give you a little brief plot summary right so the Johnny Carson. The show is on. Its the tonight show before Jimmy Fallon while to people before Jimmy Fallon it was Johnny Carson and in place of Johnny Carson in this piece a a guy named Edward Paladin just appears now he's the new Johnny Carson and it leads the reader like What apparently the audiences were also like a what incentive detectives are like who who is disguised? Coup was kind of fascinating. I really really liked that kind of surrealist surprise a thing now exists. It's very twilight zone. This is the most twilight zone. Stephen King put it on the books. So Richard and Pete the detectives they find some strain detective named Richard Cheney. And Pete Jacoby aaliyah. Ah they find some weird crap. This guy has on his person his dressing room. A boss found weird crab with exactly how they put it. uh-huh and here's the here's the items from the dressing room from his home from his person a bright blue one dollar bill with the picture of James Madison on it yet passes for the studio which are the wrong color k okay into a generic tie so going back to the one dollar bill man. Talk about the David Lynch recommendation was accidentally spot on Ab -solutely. This kind of implies that this guy is from an alternate reality where James Madison was the first president of the United States. And the whole thing gets even more alternate reality in ultimate reality as it kind of goes on to see what I'm saying. Yeah Yeah Yeah. So it's it's a really cool piece of Bryant. Explained where he found it. But it's really hard to find. There are books that have in it. But it's like compendiums the other offers in weird stuff like that and we sent that and it ends up being yet if you can find it. It's very super cool.
