"And you know, he's gone on to have a decent career. I mean, he hasn't thrown a no hitter, so you could say it was an opportunity lost, but stripling at the time said no problem, right call. It's the right thing to do. He was a rookie in his major league debut, so maybe he didn't have the standing to storm off the mound the way that rich hill did, like there was some rich communication. Yeah, he came to terms with it after the game, but in the moment, like, you know, it wasn't communicated that clearly. And I think Roberts made some me a couple of after the fact for how he handled that. That was definitely a different reaction. And it's a different guy and it's a different time and maybe it also reflects the fact that that was 6 years ago and the norms have shifted even since then. Yeah, I mean, like stripling was your right to save as a rookie was in his first major league start. He had also missed all of 2014 and 15, recovering from Tommy John surgery. And had topped out. It's so nice to have Jay having written about this because I sound like I know all these details from memory. And I super don't think he had topped out at 78 pitches in spring training that year, and his dad did in fact think him, he said, and here I am quoting from an AP piece from 2016. One of the cool things I experienced this morning was Ross dad was down in the lobby today and just sought me out and he came up to me really kind of emotional and just thanked me from him and his wife for looking out for their son. When you have a father and mother who know their kids story and what he's endured to get here, they enjoyed that moment more than anyone for him to say thank you for taking care of my son's future and our family. I'll have him and his wife support forever. I felt good about it regardless of that, but to kind of get the parent stamp of approval is always a good thing. I just, you know, these are these are complicated choices and you're right that our interests and sort of desires as fans are not always aligned with the teams or the players and those interests aren't always aligned and I think that as long as the thought process is careful and does take into account sort of the potential impact of that moment and how special that moment can be, but is trying to counterbalance the best case scenario is that Clayton Kershaw goes back out there and throws a perfect game and the worst case scenario is that Clayton Kershaw leaves the mound clutching his elbow. And I think that it's hard for a fan to balance those two things, but that ends up being a pretty easy choice for the franchise, and I don't think that we need to imply a lot more scientific rigor than exists around specific pitch counts and knowing exactly when the guy is going to break and because if we knew that, then they'd never, ever get hurt because we just we'd know and we'd be like, okay, can't throw one more today because that's the one that's going to get you. And we're not the precogs in minority reports. So we do have some guesswork here. I think you're right. The teams are further along in that process than the public side is, but you know, they're not totally sure either, but I don't know, I think it, again, Kershaw wasn't mad. If he had, if he had been like rich hill might feeling about it, it might be different, but we can be disappointed and also be fine. Yeah, I think the level of vitriol and I think and you know what, if you're not on Twitter, you don't see it. So then you just it's really fine. So maybe the biggest takeaway here is that we should all log off. I mean, the people who should be really mad in all of this are Mariners fans because my wand superstitious belief, like really in my soul, give me true serum, and I would tell you this is true, is that they're not making the postseason until someone else throws a perfect game who is a Felix, so the people who should really be mad live in the Pacific Northwest. My only fear now is that Kershaw will get hurt later this year, which is not a bad bet because he tends to miss some time every year, right? And when he goes on the IL with the backache or whatever it is, people will say, oh, see, pulling him or leave didn't prevent this, and instead we were deprived of this perfect game attempt and why you're overthinking it, et cetera, et cetera. I wouldn't be surprised if this comes up again. But I'll just say, you know, I'm mildly disappointed, but I don't think the circumstances support this being a complete referendum on the state of baseball and the downfall of the sport. So along those lines, that was the story of Wednesday, now the story of Tuesday was also in the NL west, and this was an interesting one. We had the first real unwritten rules flare up of the season. Every year I think this is it. This is going to be the last one, and then we will all just agree to not make a big deal out of this again. But it always comes back up again. But this time, maybe I've been fooled before, but this seemed a little different. This seems like it could have the potential to really change the conversation here. And I know I said that after the Fernando tatis three O Homer and after the initial complaints about that, we're walked back and it seemed like the tide had turned. But it's still there. And ironically, you have Fernando Tatís Jr.'s team here who's on the other side of this one and making a stink at it. Funny how that often happens. But what happened here was the Giants were playing the Padres. They took a big early lead the Giants that is. And they didn't do the things that the unwritten rules dictate that teams do or don't do. They did not take their feet off the pedal. And so in the second inning, Steven Duggar stole a base. A great sin of stealing a base. I think the score was what ten to one at that time. And so that ruffled some feathers. And then in the 6th inning, Mauricio de ban, he had the audacity to lay a bunt down and get a hit. And that angered the Padres, the Padres were not happy about that. You could see it on their bench. You heard after the games that Eric Hosmer quite condescendingly gave debana a piece of his mind at first base, Hosmer said after the game, I definitely told him how I felt how we felt about it. He said it was a sign given to him by their staff. I just told him, I think you've got to be a little smarter in that situation. You've been playing professional ball for a good amount of time, obviously, if you're at this level, you've got to be smarter than that. Okay, Eric. So this is the standard party line..

"Find someone else who can and backfill that space with something more productive than either what a projection system thinks or what they're getting. And I think you can absolutely have a ton of confidence in that happening and that's something that assistant like if it's not on the roster now or not allocated in our depth charts. It's just not necessarily going to see. And Kevin gausman is gone is Alex kubb or Matthew Boyd or someone going to be the next Kevin gausman? I mean, it's possible, I guess, but it's hard to have that kind of mid career reinvention or peaking every year, maybe they can keep that up. Who knows? All right, so that brings us to best rookie or most important rookie is Bart still eligible at this point. I guess I don't even know, but is there anyone else who's on the radar? Bart is still eligible. Yeah, I put Bart down, but if you're not going to go with I actually will say that my first answer was camilo Duval. Yeah. Yeah, that's an interesting one. He's not rookie eligible anymore though. I think he counts. The eligible. He's not rookie eligible. You can see he's going to be a breakout though, and then you get to squeeze them in. You get to sneak him in. Yeah. No, I did. I did replace of all with Bart. I just, that was the first thing that came up. And my mind before I checked the eligibility. But yeah, no, I think it is Joey Bart. I mean, I think this lineup needs, I don't know. See, I feel dumb saying it like the lineup could use the power because like they were a tremendous lineup last year and returned many of the same guys. But at the same time, it's kind of kind of what I think. So I don't know. I think that's a defensible pick. I mean, he is going to be like, what he ends up being for them long term, I think we will get a sense of this year. And there are options behind that. I'm just going to be slagging on giant's catchers, but I don't think that kirkus alley gives anyone a warm and fuzzy. So I think that that's fair. The other name that kind of occurs to me here is like, you know, healey Ramos is down in triple-A and if they end up without field issues, you know, that's something that might end up mattering here. I'll let you, you can pick to fall. It's fine. There are a lot of ways to count prospect eligibility, Craig. I don't know if you know. Yeah, yeah, I am aware he does have fewer than 50 innings, which is one way to look at it. But no, I do think, I mean, there are bullpen look, they have Tyler Rogers and Jake McGee, both if we were capable of pitching up the back end of a bullpen. I think, but, you know, I think we saw what he what he meant to them towards the tail end of last season. And in the playoffs, and I know he gave up the hit to Cody Bellinger or whatever, but he was really, really, very good. And I think having someone that dynamic at the back end of their bullpen could be a difference maker for them, I mean, they just have so many options in that bullpen too. I also wrote down curving Castro who I think is really good and not I don't think going to break camp with the team. He's a top option, but I think he's another really work who's really, I'm just talking about relievers a lot, I guess. Hard to find a breakout candidate here because almost literally everyone on the roster broke out last year or the year before or ten years ago, depending on who you're talking about. Re broke out, yeah. I don't know. Steven Duggar who's left, who's totally broken out. Possible. I said Alex Cobb. Yeah. I mean, you could argue he broke out last year after 5 years of strikeout percentages in the mid teens. He struck out 25% of batteries last year without meaningfully increasing his wealth rate from 2020. I am excited to see what the Giants pitching and development staff does with someone who posted a two 9 two for the angels. I know it was only 93 onions, but like, I don't know. I mean, the angels are famous for breaking pictures, and he was actually pretty good for them. I'm curious what he'll do, what he'll do with the Giants. I think he is up. I think there's an opportunity that people will catch up to how he was actually pretty good last year when he was when he was pitching. Can we say, given that we know that people take a year to adjust to really good performances, can we say that Logan Webb can break out further than he has already? Yeah, I think he can break out in terms of being famous or at least looking like Jesse punishment. Yeah. For those guys, you know? Yeah. I mean, Webb was great last year, obviously, during the rigorous season and in the playoffs, but he is now being mentioned on very short lists that I've seen of best pictures and baseball at this point. So people are totally buying in. I mean, he was good. All year long to some extent, but I guess the way he ended the season makes people buy in even more on this is a Cy Young candidate now. People love sinker guys. Yeah, I think he's, I don't know exactly where I'd put him in a ranking and I don't know if like top ten or whatever is to too hasty. I'd buy in on the quality of pitcher he is a lot. I think he's just straight up really good. All right, any other stories, questions, anything on your mind? Concerning the Giants? The only thing I mentioned is just the only thing I put under weakness that I didn't like out and out address was age..

"But on the other hand, like a bunch of players who broke out this year or in the last couple of years, are still young or still going to be on the team for a considerable amount of time. The bullpen's all going to be the same and Logan webs basically was practically a rookie this year and Lamont wade junior was practically a rookie this year in terms of service time. And Darren ruffs around and I'm not saying that those guys are superstars, I'm saying that a bunch of good stuff happened that is not the 2013 Red Sox where they all immediately hit free agency. Right. Did any roster favorites emerge for you? I mean, you only really watched the Giants, but was there anyone where you were like, I get to watch. My way today. All of them aren't we? Oh my goodness, all of them. Every single one of them at some point. And then at other points, you know, they'd come up and you just could hardly kick the ground hard enough at how frustrated you were that they were the ones coming up with the runner on second and two outs. But yeah, let me just glancing at this roster right now and enjoying the memories. I would say that I mean all of them. Every one of them. This is such a special team. Wow. Everyone but Matt Whistler. Who I think I pronounce weasel earlier. I'm still undecided. Any votes? It's Whistler. Whistler. Whistler. Yeah. Not Whistler. You know how you can remember? If you care to remember? Yeah. Like if there was onum on appeal for your pitch face and your name, he would have it because he looks like he looks like he's whistling when he gets to the end of his delivery. So that's how I remember because he literally looks like he's about to do a whistle. I'm an awkward Whistler. I'm a bad Whistler. So I have a whistling face. I just look and sound like a dope. So, you know, I'm envious of those who can whistle with any kind of musicality. And I don't to be clear know if he can do that, but anyway, that's some stuff about whistling. All right, I will say that if I had to do a top ten, the Brandon Belt captain game was incredible. Do you guys know the Brandon Belt captain game? Was that a big thing? My memory. They had kind of hit like a mini scuffle, a mini slump, they died on them. Like had lost two in a row or something. And so Brandon Belt fashioned a crude sea out of a tape on his Jersey. And then went out and hit 7 home runs. So the Brandon Belt captain game was incredible. So I'll love Brandon Belt forever. The back to back, there was a series in Oakland in August when I think it went Lamont wade first and then Donovan solano. Second, but in back to back games they each had incredible late home runs and both of them seemed impossible in the salon and one, especially seemed impossible. So I would say that I love Lamont wade junior and Donovan solano. Steven duggar for a month was the best player that they had on the team at any point in the year. And just a month, but Steven duggar is definitely going to be a favorite. Oh my gosh, my talkman had the worst year and he had two of the biggest games two of the biggest moments of the season where he hit a walk off. I think he had a walk off Grand Slam or Noah's extra inning Grand Slam when nobody on the Giants was worse at any point in the year than Mike talkman at that point. He was completely hopeless he'd gone like two for 50 something. He was striking out in two thirds of his bats. It was so painful and he gets behind O2 in an extra ending game and they try to throw him a fastball inside and he hits a Grand Slam. And then he robbed a home run, like what would have been, I think a walk off home run. So Mike talkman and then they released him. It was so sad. He's a favorite gossman. Oh my gosh. The first half, nobody better. The second half, worst baseball I've ever seen. He was the worst pitcher in baseball. For like a good 6 weeks. He was the worst pitcher in baseball. And they managed to win like 60% of the games he started during that stretch anyway. And then he figured it out at the end. And it was so exciting. That was maybe the most exciting development in the whole season was when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, gossmann splitter came back, and it just was back, and it was incredible. So he's a favorite. And then like the whole bullpen, the bullpen was constant and great. I love this team. And you said you were consuming the season primarily through the lens of the Giants. So what was your awareness of or interest in other stories? I don't know, shohei what tiny or foreign substances or whatever the big storylines of the season were. Hardly any, I looked at the Cy Young voting in the American League and I was able to recognize one, one good season that I had been aware of. I did not know Robbie ray had been good up to that point. And so really, almost nothing in the American League. And then teams come in and you hear all their stories. Right. When they come in. And so I knew most of what had happened in the national league. Got it. And then sticky substances was a big deal because it came with the Giants. I mean, right, it came like ended up. Yeah, it came like 8 minutes before Kevin gosman lost his splitter. And I don't know if they had anything to do with each other, but it made you think, well, that's not coming back, like it made you feel really scared that that was that. So I guess we should talk a little bit about you before we finish. I mean, we talked about the dishes, which is, I guess, the most important thing. But did salmon joy the giant season was not the number one question we got..

"Barista podcast, just a mess of podcasts. It's grand frisbee. Grant, how are you? I'm doing well. I am doing very well. How are you? I'm doing okay. I have two functioning elbows, so I feel like I am up on you ever so slightly. We're going to talk giants in the back half of this episode. You're going to offer some advice to would be opponents of the Los Angeles Dodgers. But before we do that, we have some banter, and I think we have to start grant. You recently went on the injured list. What's going on with your elbow, man? I did. It is a, you know, it's a sports injury. It is, it's based in athletics. So what had happened was I was sitting calmly watching at the Giants and Dodgers play in game three of the national league division series. I stood up when Gavin Lux hits a rocket into the wind with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. It looked like it was a home run. It probably should have been a home run if not for the wind, so I stood up and then as it kind of approached the fence and you saw Steven duggar settle under it, I ran to the TV to kind of get a better look, not like a hooray, but more just like baseball moment, this is cool, and as I was doing it, my feet just slipped out from under me, and I landed on my elbow. And my wife was right there. So it's not like we've talked about it. And at the time she just kind of laughed, like, oh man, you really ate it on that one. It was not me acting like a freak. I have to just clear the record on that. It was like a very simple slip. Oh, oh, ow, so. I mean, I think that it being kind of a weird freak thing is probably funnier. Yeah. But how did you then proceed with your game coverage because it's not as if that was the end of your postseason obligations. You had to go to the press box after that. I assume. Yeah, so that night I wrapped my elbow in something called a headache hat that we might want to use this for migraines. Yes, I'm familiar. Yeah, it was very convenient 'cause it just wrapped right around. My elbow, and so I propped it up. And at the time, I thought, okay, this isn't good, but maybe it's just a bad bruise, maybe not a big deal. And then it was the morning when I go, ah, let me just drop the kid off and go right to urgent care. But after that, so I had a splint. Okay. For the first couple days and that was hard. That was really I was using Apple dictation a lot, hit the function control twice and go like, oh, well, you know, here's what the giant should have done, blah, blah, blah, and it worked very well. I mean, credit to modern technology, it worked better than I could have hoped except apple can not tell the difference between pitcher, like I throw pitches picture as in picture on the wall yes. So every and apparently I use the word picture, like 300 times an article. And every time I'd have to delete it and with one hand, just go back and go pee, she HER. But once, once my splint got taken off, because it wasn't that bad of a break. I'm wearing a splinter, even a sling right now. I wear a sling when I go out in public, but when I was in the press box, I could take my arm out of the sling and I could type. And there was a level of comfort there. So it wasn't that bad just for the first couple days. Well, it's definitely going to have to be up there with the list of postseason injuries, including drone mishaps, injuries that keep one out of the postseason entirely like punching a wall. We will forever chronicle your elbow injury of 2021, but I'm glad that you're on the mend because not being able to type when you're a writer is kind of tricky. It was tricky, and I will say that I hurt my wrist for months after the Cavaliers beat the warriors in the NBA Finals. I was holding a full water bottle and when Kyrie Irving had a three, I twisted it. And I wasn't like a punching a wall thing, but it was still like a sports moment. I have to react physically. And so I felt way dumber after that, then I promised this one was just me slipping. It wasn't that intense. So yeah, I have felt dumber. Slippers right there in the in the name of the thing, but who knew that it would manifest so literally? One of the challenges of postseason baseball is that sometimes we lose sight of other stories that are relevant to the sport, so you have been kind enough to humor me agree to humor me and recap some of the things that have transpired over the last couple of weeks that we just haven't had time to address on the pod by virtue of their being so much play off baseball. So we're going to run through a couple of these before we get to the Giants. And the first one is a bit of good news. I sound cautious because obviously the devil's going to be in the details with this. But last week, Jeff passed and reported that Major League Baseball teams are going to provide housing for minor league players starting in 2022, which is a long overdue announcement, right? And as I said, devil in the details, but we actually have some potentially good news about how minor leaguers are going to be treated by their parent organizations, question mark. What was your reaction when you heard this grant? It has been such a long time coming and if you've been reading Russell Carlton at baseball prospectus where he's talking about the benefits, the tangible benefits that could be their entreating people like human beings to an organization. It wasn't necessarily going to manifest right away. So he had to have an organization that was willing to see a return and a couple of years a few years down the road. At the same time, what we're talking about here, franchises these $1 billion franchises can buy real estate..

"I want to tell you guys, Giants show up. Giants Win. Giants Show up Giants Win Giants Giants win now granted last week got little diced Even they lost 300 of the Brewers. That's baseball, and ever since then they bounced back. Two of the winds anchored by last night. Starting pitcher Logan Web done it last Thursday to break the streak against the Brewers Did it again last night. Stephen Duggar continues to soar. That's my boy. The Dodgers must be Unbelievably frustrated. Good. Let him let him wait. Let's talk about it all with my crew. Go on the human guest line, Mike, maybe one of the most stress free winds of the year from the moment. The three doubles started the game. I was like, Oh, this feels really, really good. So on the, um a guest line. How are you this morning, Mike. Hey, Mike. I'm impressed. I mean, they're doing this in Coors field. I mean, we know what the splits are in the Rockies. I mean, on the road there like 18 50. None at home. They're like 45 22 something ridiculous like that. I mean, It's just not an easy place to go play. And when is the last time you ever saw too easy wins? I mean, of course, Field. Come on. Of all the things they've done this year. These last two days might be Well, maybe maybe. Maybe that's an exaggeration, but it's still impressive. Seriously. I mean, you know, there's so many different ways to go, Uh, let's start with Logan Web again Just because He's really blossoming into just you know the guy and it leads now, Mike into thoughts of the final week of the season. And you know what you do with a guy like this Now, I don't get ahead of myself here, and there's a lot of things that can go between here and there, but you start to look at this guy as like, Do you Will we be talking about how they Jimmy the rotation if for some un forsaken reason, Godforsaken reason they wind up in the wild card. I don't want it to happen. But if they do like this is the guy you want to have the ball right or or game one of the NLDs or, you know, this is the way I'm starting to think of this guy, Mike. Well, I think you're thinking correctly. He had gone 14 consecutive starts re allowed to or less runs and that was upended yesterday and course field to go seven. Strong gives up three but I mean, he's the guy and he's not surprised by you need this. And this, you know, you watch how guys handle success. You know it because I mean, look, the old saying in baseball. Don't read the newspapers. Don't read them when you're going bad for obvious reasons. Don't read them when you're going good. Because you run the risk of believing what they're saying about you. And that's just that's that's as bad as as when they're saying bad things about you. Only because when you when you start to believe the things that they're right about you, you know you vary from your routine. You don't work as hard because in the back of your mind like I don't have to. I'm that good. And it's something that old pitching coaches will always tell young pitchers don't take it for granted. Do you do your routine? Do your work? Go out there Anticipate that It's going to be the toughest game of your life prepared for it that way and And what we've been watching with with Logan Web is he handles this so beautiful? I mean, he's not surprised by at number one and number two. He expects it. He expects this success to happen. And I think you know at this part this part of the year if you get down to a one and done game, you want that guy on the hill right now. I mean, he's earned that right. I mean, think about what happened early in the year. I mean, Guzman was the ace and and and Logan was just the rook who was just trying to find himself here. And then now, you know, here we are. Five months later in your going. Whoa. Wait a second. What has happened here before our very eyes and it's really, really So much fun to see When you see that type of talent come out of your organization That is a huge hit to the organization and everybody. Everybody right now is feeling it When he walks out there. Every thinks it's one day I know and it leads is there's actually something more immediate than the playoffs is this weekend? Just to keep everything on normal rest. He would go again Sunday at Wrigley. And in Gausman would go Saturday at Wrigley. It has been brought up by some of the beat writers that with an off day tomorrow, you could give those guys an extra day arrest. That brings into play to bullpen games at Wrigley, because Friday is going to be a bullpen game, no matter what. And then that would bring in Saturday's a bullpen game Gausman Sunday and then Web Monday with an extra day of rest using the off day or you just stay on your normal routine. So what's your philosophy on that? You have an off day? Do you use it to give a guy do you give guys like Gausman and Web extra rest or not? Well, I mean, normally, I'd say absolutely push, pitch him on his fifth day and just let the fifth day forward falls, and if there's an off day then you get the six day there, But I think given what's happened in baseball the last two years you really have to you have to consider other things. Me Last year number one is 60 game schedule. So young arms did not have the luxury of being able to layer that other 15 or 20 development year where you had 15 or 20 additional innings to the year before. I mean, that's the natural progression to build up arm strength. Now you have a guy who has emerged as quickly and as as incredibly as Logan Web has Now you kind of have to watch out for him because the innings pitched They? You know, you have to respect that. And and I think the best thing right now to do with him is giving that extra day We let him open up the series against, uh, who we play Atlanta Padres podrian. Okay, so it's the Padres. So then you consider, you know, giving them an extra day and letting them actually sent him home a day early and then started Monday. These things are all things they're considering, Um And you know to no surprise, but they were very much aware that this is a young arm and they still have to be careful with it. And being careful with it just simply means giving them an extra day on occasion, and they have they have a chance to do it. Okay, Interesting. And so the you, you, you, you are the pitch counter. The mileage, I should say is is definitely something you're looking at. Oh, totally. The one good thing is when a guy is going really good. He's not taking a lot out of his arm because his mechanics are so perfect when he's struggling. That's when he takes more out of his arm. Because when your mechanics are good, your arms suffers in your shoulder. Your your elbow your You know your hip, your knee, your ankle. All the joints suffer because of poor mechanics and the centre mechanics that webs in right now, and he's He's locked in, and he's efficient. I mean, you know, yesterday. I mean, he goes in the sixth inning at 67 pitches yesterday at the end of six innings. I mean, he was dealing So I don't think he's taking a ton out of his arm right now because of mechanics. But even at that he's blazing a new trail. And you know you're you're getting your thinking about this in September with the idea that You know he's going to be ready and he's going to be rested. He's gonna be strong in October. Now that's another animal in itself. So all these things are considering. Well for sure. And this is where Gabe Kapler is. You know we're going to see how he manages in September in a pennant race. This is going to be the decisions that he in the front office make that determine whether or not the Giants Will win the West. So one of the other decisions he has to make is to write in the name Steven Duggar on the lineup card Mike and the thing about this guy, and there's a quote from from cabin if people missing yesterday, Duggar two triples in a double after his his epic triple off of Walker Buehler on Sunday night, right. He's six for 14. With three triples over his last three games. Giants won five out of six and Doug has been a big part of the last three..

"All blue, the tops and the bottoms, they say lows. Dodgers On the hat and the front of the uniform. The pitch swing and a foul chip into the myth of Will Smith. David Price. Singing. Look at his pants. He's got him long and they're loose. It's like he's wearing slacks. Yeah. He's like the opposite of Walker Buehler out there. That's right next offering line over the leap and Turner and down the left field line. It hits the side wall. Picking it up is Taylor throw into second and he's in there safe, so it's a double. I was going to try to keep that tag down on Casali. He was coming in so hard, some so much momentum. His second base and defenders are picking up outs that way. Turner wasn't even looking. I'm not quite sure if Sally lost contact with the bag actually did a really good job of hooking it there so it wouldn't matter. For that. So the batter now will be Steven's Duggar infield, halfway 2nd and 3rd Price and the pitch. And the breaking ball did that hit him? Sounded like it hits something. I don't think so. So one ball no strikes on Duggar. Was knocked in two with the triple and he's also flied to left. The property. Price. A long look in David still looking, the pitch swing at the ball popped up. This is on the infield. And Seager and Turner and that one is caught by Seager as he went tumbling over. He bumped the You know, the ball was basically over second base, and he bumped into Casali.

"Tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the most in the major leagues. So it should be no surprise that the Giants have a 46 in 26 record, the best in baseball. At this point, it still is too much of Baseball world too much of the East Coast media that's now descending on San Francisco and writing their stories on how the Giants are still getting this thing done. We've been saying this isn't a fluke for the last month. We've been saying that After the Giants handle the Padres the beginning of May after the Giants proved that they could compete with the Dodgers at the end of May. This is a team that has staying power. This is a team that fans can believe in. It's gonna be a fun summer in San Francisco. I believe that I know that it already has been in the month of June nine and two at home giant scoring more than seven runs a game at Oracle Park right now. This is a baseball team. It has a ton of belief that what it has accomplished so far is no fluke. And then it can hang atop the National League West. For the rest of the summer. Carrie Crowley filling in for Adam Copeland here on the leadoff spot on Monday morning. Taking it all the way up to the six o'clock hour with Murph and Mac so much to get to this morning. What the Jazz have accomplished at home this season. Why they feel like they're in a group at the plate. Previewing this week series against the Angels. Down in Anaheim Angels team that is also mashing the baseball in the month of June. Giants of the third best O P s. As a team this month 8 30 to the Angels. Number two behind the Houston Astros. So tough matchups for Anthony DeSclafani and Kevin Gausman, But the Giants have proven they can They can win these tough matchups. This Phillies team that came into Oracle Park this weekend. Probably more star power on the roster than the Giants at Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen J T Realmuto. Lot of really good players for the Phillies, but that is a bad baseball team. They cannot catch the ball. Greece. Hoskins Again three home runs this weekend. Sacramento native fan of candy are by the way, Reese Hoskins said he grew up listening to Marty Lourie on the weekends. Man. He is in trouble over at first base and Behind the plate. Neither Andrew Napper J. T Realmuto did much to help their pitching staff. That was the opposite of a defensive clinic was a defensive embarrassment for Philly this weekend, and the Giants capitalized. That is what good baseball teams do. The job did not miss their chance, taking two of three from Philly after sweeping the D backs this week. Jets still in first place in the National League West, where they had been throughout this month of June. Gabe Kapler, early front runner for the nationally manager of the year. He clearly was not the problem in Philadelphia. Their coach poorly. They don't catch the ball. It's a bad bullpen. Not nearly enough pitching To make up for that offence, and then you turn around and you look at the Giants and how they're getting things done. Contributions from stars role players alike. It could be Mikey Stransky and Brandon Crawford home Oring. Work could be Lamont Way. Junior and Stephen Duggar taking care of business. Steven Duggar another great game his O P s up over 9 50 on the season just scalding the ball right now at the plate. The Giants heard a bit of a roster crunch. We're going to get to that on the show this morning. What do you do? Alex Dickerson. Darren Rough ready to come back from the injured list? Where do you play them? You're not taking Stephen Duggar out to center field Right now. The defense and offense He's providing you Lamont way, Junior. To solidify the leadoff spot in the lineup. Alex Dickerson. Wasn't getting the job done at the plate before he got hurt. And Darren Rough. The By the Giants have on the benches. The Left handed specialist when they face a lefty. During rush the guy they want the lineup. They don't face a whole lot of lefties anymore. Felt like they face one every other day in the month of April, But Austin Slater's been on the bench. Marie's here to bond's been on the bench. So what do you do with Darren Rough? So much to cover this morning, really good weekend of sports. My two favorite words in sports Game seven. So a great matchup on Saturday night between the Nets and the box had a ton of fun washing K D in that one. What I thought was the game winning shot. His size 18 ft on the three point line. Robbing the Nets have a chance to advance and then the Bucks take care of business in overtime. So they will go on and face the Atlanta Hawks, who at one point this season were 14 and 20 fired their head coach. No one saw this coming. I love an interim coach leading a team deep into the postseason. Nate McMillan He's taken Trae young squad in the Hawks. Are in position to face the box in the Eastern Conference finals. The Western Conference finals. My Phoenix Suns. After years of bad basketball. After years of people questioning the direction the franchise under Robert Sarver, the Phoenix Suns are playing at an elite level. Devin Booker went for 40 in Game one of the Western Conference finals. No one knows anything about Kawai Leonard's Injury that kept him out right now, But it's clear the Clippers just aren't the same team without kuai. And who would be.

Reynolds has not stolen a base yet this year, Pirates Don't steal a ton, but they're very efficient. 15 steals 18 chances, the 02 in the dirt and what a save by Posey backhand style man slider that bounced way in front of home plate. Great save by Buster to keep Reynolds over there at first base. Melons may not be a big base stealer, but he has pretty good speed. So extra base hit. It's coming off another good home stand. Jackets have been the best home team in baseball so far this year. They have not played as well on the road. They played fine, but just not quite as well and see if they can. Play even a little bit better away from home this week in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Mike talk. Brandon Belt was in the initial starting lineup. Belt still got a little that tightness in his side. The Giants were being extra extra cautious with that so belt was scratched in the Giants put Steven Duggar in center field to talk with and left hitting leadoff Buster Posey doing the catching, batting second. "Are these markets quite simply the best. All right. Welcome into extra innings. Bill Lasky, sitting aside a cup, my fellas in the studio as we push on to the extra inning postgame show. It's not really a good post game show is the Giants. Clobber today at Oracle, 11 to 1. Uh, San Diego Padres just came out and played. They were not going to get swept. Last weekend. Same thing happened to the Giants. They lost the first two games and sure enough, Gausman was the stopper last Sunday. And they ended up escaping one and today that's what the Padres did beginning of the game, though. I mean both these pictures, Chris Paddock, as well as Johnny Cueto didn't pitch in a while, and Chris Patrick was Covert 19 type release. He was not a nonroster since April, and sure enough, he went out there and pitch three Good innings. He was he was He pitched very well. On the other side. Johnny Cueto, who hasn't pitched live since the end of April. Hey, didn't look good. He didn't have the location that he did. And he didn't throw good off off speed pitches. The slider was a spinner, and it cost him and I just really would like to know what he did in his rehab starts. If he had any of that sounds like he hasn't had any sound like he There's some BP and maybe through an aside. He said he was ready. But Put him into the fire against the Padres after losing two games. They didn't think of anything about Johnny quieter today. They they just took it to him in the second inning and the third inning, he escaped with a nice catch by Dugger. But it just didn't look like the old Johnny Cueto. And when you start looking at what he did before he got hurt with a lap. He pitched well, you threw against Seattle through five and two thirds pitched really well against Colorado eight and two thirds And then his last start, five and two thirds against Cincinnati and then April 14th. He went on the aisle, and since then he's been trying to recover and a LAT strain and it just didn't look good. And I just I'm puzzled a little bit about His rehab and his rehab starts and I keep saying we don't know if he did if he had an inter squad game up in Sacramento, the alternate site But he got thrown into the pack of wolves today and 22 home runs to two run home runs by curling Worth and two teas just chased it. Chased him really? After the second inning. He just was baffled. He he just looked rattled. Posey was trying to throw so many different things down, and nothing was working. Um, you can't throw off speed when your fastball is 92 93. It wasn't hitting spots and That was one thing he threw 64 pitches. 39 of them were strikes. Three walks. Um one walk eight hits, five earned runs. And like I said to two run home runs, and and that was pretty much of the game. The Padres really through their bullpen after Paddock Weathers through Paul Real well, he's been throwing really well for them. 21 year old lefty foot gone through. Well, Pomeranz. They finally got to run off and it Adams came on. And really, Delta just didn't like his little antic when he struck out talk, man. Like Get out of here. You You're nothing. Okay, That's okay. Come September. We'll see how you are Adam's, um, but you know some of the things that happened in block games. Of course. Darren Rough goes in in the ninth inning and tries a lot of things in there and get outs and At that time. The game has been moved a 9 to 1, and you definitely don't want to use another reliever. Alvarez was shook up after he he threw the ball, the sucking. He had a double play ball, and when he caught the ball, he was on the front of the mound, and what he didn't do was get balanced, and he ended up throwing up. From the front of the mound and sure enough that ball elevated over. Floors, his head into center field, and that was really a double play ball. If you watch it to tease who hit the ball wasn't even running the first base. He he was pretty much saying, Hey, it's a double play ball. I'm just gonna run it. Run slow and get out of the inning. And sure enough, he threw in the center feeling and it really cost him. Uh, four runs. That's what ended up happening and the air from two t send it up, with Grissom hitting a triple. And what have played by talking. That was off the edge of his glove. But just a great tribe. I talk, man. I really like how he plays one for five today. Um, you know the leadoff spot. We're missing less Stella. I really would like to maybe see your strips. You jump back in there and put talk minutes as a second hitter, maybe flip it a little bit against the Rangers on and see if there's any changes there. Steven Duggar really was hitting the ball well, today struck out and then they double switched on him. He was eight for 19 in his last six games, punched out in the second inning, but he put a nice defense and center field crawl again made a great play in the seventh inning. On the Wil Myers ball, or I should say the criminal worth ball, and he flipped it to second to get Meyers. But there was this nothing there. There was no excitement. The bats were were silent. They only had eight hits, and they were sprayed. Across the game. There was no life and I think a lot of that life got taken out of him. In that second inning won. The Padres scored four and then they came back, scored one and a third. It was five to nothing. They had a couple opportunities during the game. You know a couple guys on in the third inning strikeout, Slater struck out and then talk men and your strips. He got bass. It's And imposing and belt went down with Kay's. There wasn't really that many opportunities, but they just couldn't scratch it. It was a dead day for the bats and you know it was pretty cool. I always like seeing all the Major league baseball players wear pink and, of course, is the awareness of breast cancer because it's mother's day. It's a school at the catching gear. That pink was a little bit too bright for me. It was pretty cool, though, when they weren't Caselli had it on as well as a victor Caron teeny. But when you first put it on, there was funny because even cooking Keiper just like Wow, that's pretty loud. For a catcher, but you know, it's cool for the game. It's good that you know the socks were on and hats were on the San Diego had the pink s a D on your hat. The Giants had different things. Of course, cross gonna wear anything Pinky can get on. The uniforms. I didn't I didn't like really the pants up to the knee, and then the pink socks. That was that's too much, especially the brown uniforms. That didn't really play well. But it was this a tough game. It was really a tough game for the Giants turned the page and they got to come right back and play the Rangers..

"Crowley. He covers the Giants for the Bay Area News group carries nice enough to hang out with us on the home against line here in the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooks show. Carrie, We always appreciate the time how you doing, man. Um, well, especially now that baseball's coming back looking forward to head on down to the desert soon. How are you guys? We are doing fine and we share your sentiment. You know what baseball's here? Let's go ahead and get it on. Unfortunately, it sure seems like When it comes to the National League, a specific in the National League West. We kind of know who the big dogs are gonna be the Dodgers and the Padres. But I don't think that's gonna make this giant season any less interesting and Intriguing is the rotation eyes that the not necessarily the biggest issue on this team, but is that something that really needs to be sorted out and hashed out in spring training and when we get answers when we get so once we get to opening day? I think it's certainly the biggest concern right now, Rod and you look at the rotation the Giants are planning around right now. It's Kevin Gosman, Johnny Cueto, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood, and then a competition for the fifth starter job. And right now you look at that and say the front runner. Is Logan Web, but I would not be surprised at all if they added one more major league free agent Edition. Maybe swing a trade somewhere with using their excess infielder BOPE in depth and potentially signing two or three guys to minor league deals who can compete for jobs in the rotation like they did last year with Trevor Cahill. Thais Ross few years before that, with Derek Holland just because Go from 60 games to 162 games is a monumental challenge in itself to do it with the rotation. The Giants are trying to do it with where you've got a number of guys who are trying to come back from bounce back seasons or coming off of injuries. I mean, that is a really, really difficult task, not even to mention the division that they're in. Center field. I mean, they were rumored to be after Jackie Bradley Jr. He still hasn't signed. It Sounds like he wants maybe a four year deal or maybe a five year deal. I don't think I can't see them going that long with him with all the outfielders they have. In the pipeline. Where do you think they stand with Bradley? You think they're out? You think they're still monitoring? You think there's a chance? It seems like everybody's kind of blocking it and a long term deal for him. Yeah, I would imagine they're monitoring Larry. I don't think that anything is likely. And I wouldn't say that they're probably even in on Jackie Bradley Jr at this point, especially after the addition of Lamont Wade via the trade with Minnesota and trading Sean Anderson to get the left handed hitting center field prospects. But I think that they'll move forward with Tommy lost Ella being the left handed edition, the bath that they were talking about that they were looking for, and I think that list l A in the infield really does compliment some of their other left handed hitters. Well, you looked the lineup. They could have against righties. You have less Stella, you have Alex Dickerson, You have Mikey Stransky, Brandon Belt. That's a really tough quartet of hitters to navigate through and then in center field. I would say that Marie she had a bomb is probably the front the front runner to get most of the playing time there, but expect way to compete in spring training. Maybe Steven Duggar will find his way into the mix. He's still on the 40 man roster in a few years ago, the judge, we're very excited about him, and so I just think that center field is no longer as big of a priority because they did address that left handed hole in their lineup by adding less Stella. Carry. Which one of the young guy is, Uh, you are most likely to come up and play and get some games and some of bats or some endings this year. The really tough question to answer, Tom because all of the young or damn it answer. I can't answer it. Well, all the young really exciting guys gonna be playing in San Jose, it lo Wei and Eugene it Hi, eight this year, and so you're going to see Marco Luciano Hunter Bishop Louise to review you're gonna be hearing those names all season, but they're really not gonna have a chance to impact this Giants lineup if there was one guy Who I said by the middle of the summer or the end of the season. If he really had an opportunity, it would be Elliott Ramos. And, Of course, Joey Bart's going to be in the mix. We know that he'll probably start the season in Triple A, but eventually he's going to be in that tandem with Buster Posey. But Ramos is the guy who they're looking for. To make major strides. I'd say, probably double a triple A first half of the season. They have to add him. The 40 Man roster by the end of this winter, anyway, so you might as well take a look at him at the end of the year, particularly with the power production. He can give you to see if he can still be that premium center field prospect that they were hoping for when they first drafted him back in 2017. And so I think that hopes were pinned high on Ramos right now. We're talking Giants with Terry Crowley, who covers the Giants for the Bay Area News Group, a group led by the San Jose Mercury News. Carrie is joining us on the Omagh guess line. Do you think the Giants are going to out of necessity have to spend Portion of the beginning of the season..

"Scoreboard already done today. The rivalry cubs. And cardinals the cubs win. This one Kyle Hendricks goes and shutout. The cardinals for zip later on twins at Yankees raise at Orioles. The nationals in Phillies in Phillies, of course, Bryce Harper against his former team roles in Detroit to take on the Tigers Mariners go east to take on the Indians in Cleveland. The Braves are in Florida take on the Marlins. The Blue Jays in Texas to take on the Rangers range the Red Sox and White Sox from Chicago Mets and brewers in Milwaukee. And a couple of games in the NFL west Diamondbacks and Rockies in Colorado and the dodgers and the Padres. So that's what the school board looks like tonight. And again Tyler Beatty will make two thousand nineteen debut after fine one point nine nine era in Sacramento as far as the lineup is concerned tonight for the giants against the Cincinnati Reds. Former? And Yankee Sonny gray will go to the mount he's only four but not bad three point six four era. He's had some bad luck against Beatty. Joe panics gonna lead off and play. Second base mentioned my Gerber. He's going to be in left field. Again. If you missed it Gerber three fifty seven batting average and one five seven Opie s so he's been good. He's in the two holes. The giants continue to look for offense. Buster Posey's been hot hits well in that Parkinson's Inada he's in the three hole. Brandon belt's gonna play first base hitting four. Evan longoria. Play third base. He's hitting in the five whole Brennan Crawford. Still trying to snap out of that slump easing six and obviously playing short Kim implores hitting seven and he's in center field. Steven Duggar in right? He's banning eighth. And again Tyler Beatty to the mound batting night as the giants. Take off against
