"Stephen smith show hi dan how are you i would not get so. I would not make pandak prescott a big priority and let me explain why so when you think about what that's going to get next year probably thirty to thirty five million. He's gonna command time on fair thirty to thirty five million dollars. What the asking price to inconvenience. I know when the going rate is for a top quarterback. I mean that's a lot of money. Don't don't get me wrong but hey it's not always who's the best quarterback it's when you get paid because it seems like these contracts are just topping one another here so so you know what he might get around thirty million dollars a year who knows exactly so main look at the free agent market for where backs up coming here and i think there's that you can get close to the same production not necessarily the same not seeing that you can get probably pretty close for twenty million or less. I'm talking about guys is like kobe bryant either mary tannehill whoever loses the thousand tennessee jacoby percent in that category i mean i need to see a heck of a lot more more from jacoby brusett before i'm willing to hand him the keys to an offense and give him twenty million dollars a year. I mean that's a big leap for me dalton and thank you for the phone. Call you know the bottom line. Line is this though with the cowboys and we'll see what happens with these contracts. You got like the fact that they took care of tank lawrence because a pass russia to me is right up there underneath a quarterback when you're talking about importance in what you're doing to construct a football team this this day and age a pass happy league. You wanna get yourself a top flight. Pass rusher no other way about it. Cowboys have that guy in house and he could sleep easier knowing that that guy is not gonna be next cowboy anytime soon. "Top fifty boxers of all time and Ali was just so clearly putting himself as the greatest of all time but one more Mike from scan scranton. Mike and the Stephen Smith show with will cain hired on well. How about this you grew up in the eighties right you watch bird you watch magic and you watch Jordan at the time they were the three greatest players and that's part? There was no question now injury illness cut short but Jordan definitely is the greatest of all time but you know what you know. I'd like him like I like it but here's the thing the only problem with that is we think of bird and magic prime when they were seeking it out in the in the mid to late eighties right and in Jordan arrives not just as a scoring champion but as a champion in this debate in the early nineties I don't really think of him as I think of him as almost a next generation after magic and bird even though I know there on the court at the same time Mike understand that you got to look at it like everybody knew that he was going to be the best either like in the first four years as you can tell that he was gonna be the greatest of all time there was no there was no question about and I got another sport for you all right. It's racing what about Lorden earnhardt and <hes> Janka Jimmy Johnson. I'm going to be honest with you. My and I appreciate the call you just about exhausted my level of NASCAR knowledge when you forced me to come up with the first name for Johnson Jimmy Me Johnson. Although I think Jimmy is probably considered as Jimmy the greatest of all time now Nascar I got into NASCAR in the late nineties for a good hot second when they opened Texas Motor speedway went out there and cheered on Bobby Labonte and then that lasted about two or three years and I was out so I'm GonNa be honest with you. Might I don't have a ton of NASCAR knowledge to fall back on here on. Did you ever have a triumvirate duke it out for greatest of all time I don't mind bird magic in Jordan as a nominee but it doesn't reach what we're seeing in tennis right now. Nothing does my estimation edit eight seven to nine three seven seven six will cain filling in for Stephen on the Steven A. Smith Show so as I said there's a drumbeat going on as that Prescott got has not yet reached a contract extension with the Dallas cowboys and there's an anticipation that he's not going to give the Dallas cowboys a hometown discount a Tom Brady discount to build around him. More and more analysts are suggesting. Don't put Dak Prescott in the thirty million dollars a year club right now you have four quarterbacks on an annualized basis who make thirty million dollars a year. Those quarterbacks are Russell Wilson Ben Rothlisberger Aaron Aaron Rodgers and Carson Wentz and there is a sense that if the cowboys do this they will compromise the rest of their roster and ask the quarterback to carry the team in a way Dak Prescott has not proven capable of doing. Here's what Max Kellerman had to say on. I take the eventually. He may be a truly great quarterback. That time is not yet and if you're going to tell me I gotta pay thirty six million dollars a year I doing it. I like them better than golf. Golf has more talent but I'd rather have that because my quarterback he has more stuff carson. Wentz is another story. I'm GonNa put Carson Wentz aside. I think he's better than both those guys but injuries not with not notwithstanding but like a lot I think eventually he'll be elite but if you overpay pay him now key. You won't put a good enough team around him to win. That was Max Kellerman earlier today on I taken earlier today on the Stephen a Smith show here with will cain N._F._l.. Front Office insider Louis Riddick essentially agreed with that analysis from Max Kellerman. I disagree. I think Dak will be elite..

"I mean the irony of like Barack Obama being criticized for golf in the Trump here is funny, but, like the thing, my point is this stuff's been going on all the time like this is not politics is not new, if even call that politics. I mean again in twenty twelve Mike Lupu, who was hired by SPN on the sports reporters writing a left leaning political for the daily news every week, l z Granderson was working for CNN. Into politics. Steven steven. Steven A Smith code Rudy Giuliani a dictator in terms of his New York City tenure own things, none of this stuff one. None of the stuff is to, to. The fact is, these are not the best examples here, but sports and politics aren't are, are intertwined in our life from Jesse Owens to Carlos and Smith and we had fifty nine hundred sixty eight I mean but. Frustrating to me that again, I understand everything that the research says, and what Petar says, I do feel like this is just my opinion. I do feel like there is a part of them that caved to, to bad press in, in what I think, in many times was disingenuous bad press. That's all I have to say on that. But go ahead. I didn't mean to take the floor. No, no, no. I just I think the difference is that and I think that we saw this from twenty two thousand nine onwards. Social media was so new, and there was such a learning curve, both for individuals. But also for companies, and I think that, you know, that's the difference in in sixty eight or and you know just owns thirty six and Munich and I mean those were obviously unbelievably iconic moments. But then when you when you arm somebody with a telephone their own telephone and their own feed. And these are people that have few unspoken thoughts. So they, they are they're writers and their opinion makers, and they're very agile about delivering their own opinions, once you cross into that political spectrum. I mean, I think it becomes unwieldy, and I think that every single day I mean, people people at general mills today, you're talking about, you know what their brand and what they're not. And what's not there, Brandon? What's deleterious to their brand and everything else, I think media companies. Get to do that. I mean Roger did that with Fox News and in a in a in a very specific way. But you get to do you get to protect your brand, and you get to understand your brand and project, your brand to the public in ways that you think are going to be best for your business. So I you know, I'm, I'm not surprised that it's, you know, I said this several years ago, but we kinda saw this coming because otherwise it's just it's, it's too on wieldy it's and it becomes and at the end of the day, it, it's not about sports, even if it's talking about the, the next sports and politics. Once you start capping individuals, you know, weighing in on all these different things like that. It just it, it becomes less and less about sports. Again, as I've said, a thousand times in this podcast eight it is easy for me to take the position. I am taking because I do not run Disney, I don't have shareholders. I don't have to think about eight thousand employees. So I get all that. And I appreciate your perspective there, Jim. There's something that you wanted. I know to comment on I don't know where he said this. But you were mentioning to me before we taped, that Bob Eiger has said recently that he thinks the ESPN brand is better than ever. And I guess is resonating with fans better than ever. What your what your thought on on ideas? Thesis statement there. Well, I mean, I think that that's part, that's an extension of we're talking about. You know, I mean, I think that they, they have there were two things that Jimmy was charged with more than others. When he became president one is to get to, to kind of diffuse this political bomb, and the second is to make sure that things with Park Avenue and the NFL were improved..

"Why do you want to come to Washington? See, I don't think that revamping. Lahser is daunting to any great executive and sign. Eight years. It's daunting his thing. Tony, what are the resources at your disposal to do those things with the wizards as oppose to the raptors in Toronto where where they've got? I mean I just I get I applaud Titley if this happened if the same no no this. I would stand up and clap for Ted Leonsis with. But do I see this happening? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't know. That's no. I just wanna make sure the nets issues. Have nothing to do with the front office. The big question is, whether they want or should want free agent. Kyrie Irving, my friend, and colleague, Steven A Smith is reporting that Irving has given every indication to the Brooklyn nets that he wants to play for them, and not the New York. Knicks. Tony get right to it as talented as Kyrie Irving is if you're the nets, don't you have some hesitation about handing him. Nearly one hundred fifty million bucks, and pinning all of your hopes on making him, your franchise player, your friend and calling, what am I achieved sandwich here? We rata site, you're out outta mind. Lots of us out here in the field, working in your I don't know where you are. Let me. Get to the question and the question demands a certain geography lesson here about New York City. And I understand that Brooklyn is one of the five boroughs of Manhattan is one of the five boroughs Brooklyn, nets none. No, the Knicks. All of you are even now the Knicks the Yankees. The giants not this argument about not wants to go give you something, not the nets. All right. So there should be no hesitation on the part of the nets to take him because they need to win championships, just to pull, even they had should have no hesitation. If I were in the stab team if I were in a fair and friendly situation. I might ask the Celtics players. I might ask the Celtics coaches. I might want to do. I want a thoroughly unhappy and miserable human being on my team for the next X amount of years. But the nets if that opportunity drops to them, write the check. Tony. First of all, let me tell you how pain Stephen is to, to break that story because I the other day. And all he talked about was how you and he would just basically try to beat me down, if the Knicks ever won anything. They're not the Knicks the kyri and coverage to go to the next day. They Knicks guy pains him to report this. So Saudi let me say this, there is no chance I would make Tyree Irving the number one guy on my team. Seeing what I've seen really this year. Tony, he's not a one. He's not a leader. The Boston Celtics were better without this isn't like to silly argument are the warriors better without getting knowing that stupid. It's dumb wore the Celtics better without Kyrie Irving. Hell, yes, they were, that's an indictment. He's a great talent..

"Heck, no, not even close. But we were the ultimate team the patriots or the Altima team. I've heard you mentioned a lot of things the one name. I haven't heard you mentioned was boy wonder himself, showing McVeigh. Why is that? I love Sean McVay. Okay. Hey, how can you not love the guy? He's the old. I think he's a player's coach. And knowing you knowing how stupid you are about the game of football. If you thought Sean McVeigh was going to be a factor yet a message that ten minutes ago. Did it why not because he's calling up against Bill? Bella check, come on just checking. Hey, Bill checks the wizard. Let's just put that out. He's the wizard and intil, Sean McVeigh proves it. Hey, I'll give him credit on Monday or Sunday night next week if he's able to -ccomplish this feat. This feet might be the office. Don't want the one thing. I take away from Bill Belichick, and I didn't talk to you after the soup. The one thing I take away from him is that I as much as I respect and love and reviewed at man, I really had a problem with him taking Malcolm Butler who played ninety seven point eight percent of the staff's last year during the regular season. One hundred percent of the snaps in the postseason, and then the Super Bowl comes and you bench that. Man. And this dude that works with me off. I take max Kelvin. Well, he did what was in the best interest to it act. No sense whatsoever. What the hell was that decision about Bill Roman? Hey, I was in one of those scenarios when I was in Oakland. I had a teammate go AWOL. Yes. Okay. Barons went to Mexico and before the Super Bowl I had one of those. And guess what the owner wanted him to play in the game when he got back. But with he got back. He didn't even know who the owner was that's where his state of mind was could he have got his mind. Right. And would it made a difference in the game? I think if you're rich Gannon you're saying, I think it would've I would've wanted my guy but Bill Bella check. I think did the right thing. But it cost him a super Mangone. Lot of you. "He's been taking part in practice this week dealing with that story. He'll the three time all pro missold preseason first thirteen games of the regular season. He returned to play to gaze Mr. final regular season game. Plus the divisional round kickoff against the colts. Now, Bill Belgium's defence is only allowed forty points in game seven times three three times against Andy Reid. Coach teens straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones. Best networks, no contracts. Louis riddick. I'm Steven A Smith show on how read would be viewed if he takes KC the distance look one of his disciples. Doug Peterson went back to his place that he kind of brought out of the you know, kind of we built back in the early two thousands and he won a Super Bowl. So, you know, just from a competitive professional standpoint, and he has to want to. To win one. And he knows he has one of the best teams had outside of the teams that he's had had in up that he should have won the Super Bowl with at some point in time. Strongest maybe he would like it. But I think his offense can offset it some of those weaknesses, and I think they're strong enough in order to get to the Super Bowl and ultimately win it. So there's no question from the outside looking in the expectations are very high for him as far as this team teams concerned getting them to the Super Bowl, whether he admits that or not really relevant because you know, in order for him to really be mentioned what the great that. He is a great coach don't think about this. But really legitimate conversation. We all know he's got to win one. I mentioned those numbers for read against bell. Check coached teams ESPN NFL nation reporter Adam tiger earlier on Spain and Fitz. Chiefs played the patriots four times with Andy Reid is Kansas City coach teams won twice but in three to four games the Chiesa scored at least forty points. So, you know, it seems like. Mainly read sorta has the key to the states in England, and he has this figured out. So we'll see if that continues on Sunday, but certainly done a nice job against the patriots. At least when they have the ball. Nice straight talk wireless, nationwide coverage on America's largest and most dependable four G L T networks yet as there ever been a coach in this league better a game planning for the big game than the longtime. Coach of the patches owner Robert Kraft expressed his appreciation with our Mike Reese, he's the goat coaches. Just like our quarterback is the goat of quarterbacks. I mean, and no one can dispute it, and the real the fact that our organization has been able to perform at this level in the age of the salary cap. You know, when everyone's spends the same amount of money. So look I'm pretty proud that we've been able to keep him and a quarterback together for nineteen years. Please go it'll be two decades next year. In today's era of free agency, people going in different directions as pretty cool. When you think of how teams schedules are scheduled when you win you play the tougher teams you draft at the bottom. Yeah. That's all true. And they've had sustained success. Nonetheless, Casey has home field though. They have the young legs. The pats been there done that said Joyner former Pro Bowl linebacker and my former neighbor on Golic and wingo is greater emphasis defensively for them to try to figure out what to do against New England. Problematic for them. Because now New England in my opinion, kind of holds the cars because you know, they've got to do is tweet a couple of things who put their game plan for Kansas City game plan in disarray because they're gonna be prepared for what they did tour, and they're going to be prepared for what they saw the last two or three weeks in any solo tweaks to what they did. Of play with the minds of defensive player. So Patrick Moses saying all the right things regarding reverence for Brady and company. But Casey gunslinger there is this the second player ever to throw for over five thousand yards and fifty touchdowns in the same season. He was asked if this game represents the passing of the torch of sorts the quarterbacks and teams, I mean, I've seen it. But I mean, there's still a long ways to go. I mean, I'm I'm young young guy. He's done so much in this league and is still doing it to this day. And so I mean, he he he's gonna play for some more years to come. So I mean, I'm always strive to do to some of the things that he's done with the Super Bowl is that he's one and that's the ultimate goal. And I mean, he's he's not trying to pass it pass the torch anytime soon, I mean, he's he's but at a high level this year, and I expect him to keep playing at this level for at least another couple of years. All right. Let's switch conferences Benjamin Watson out Sunday for the saints. The veteran tight end will miss the NFC title game battling appendicitis. Grounded pound that will determine a who is Sunday's winners. So says Louis Riddick to try and dress it up as being this high high flying finesse type of league right now still comes down the blocking tackling running the football stopping the run rushing the passer playing good situational football. And that is what all these teams that are still in. It are really striving to do. So both of these teams are going to try impose their will the rather retire and run the ball would C J and Todd, and you know, that the saints are going to run with Alvin and Mark you know, that they're going to try and establish that right out of the gate and led teams know we're here for the next three and a half four hours. Yeah. Sean Payton recognizes what is teams up against and Todd Gurley and C J Anderson both going for over a hundred against the Cowboys. Well, look, I think one of the top teams in the league certainly the top running back in. CJ? Obviously since he's been there done a great job. So that they're well coached ver very disciplined with what they do and Sean and those guys on offense. It's pretty consistent, you know. And so. One in the line of scrimmage. It's been in the right gap in. Understanding that fits the coach named Sean McVay will have to deal with the saints tandem, Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. But he likes his guys knows he's he's a special unique football player. I think he's very secure and himself. So that he understands that CJ helps us, and and really, you know, for Taj is getting back in the flow being able to kind of just get his win back and be able to have his productive a game as he did with them. Having really had a month off. I think is a large credit to Todd. But then also his understanding insecurity to be able to be supportive of CJ. If there's one thing that you hear about Todd think says as much as anything anytime that he's asked about you know, how we're doing our the running game. You know, he's always quick to give credit to everybody else. He's definitely recognize what a good job CJ's done to help our football team. And I think when your best players have that mindset as far as it's about the team, and it's about how can we best win a football game. And I think he knows that being able to stay fresh while he's still our guy, but also then giving CJ and opportunity. Make some place is best for the team right now. And I think that's a large credit to our leadership and anti being one of those key leaders selfless girly on Anderson's emergence football, man. And do it all by yourself ever this one one man team? And it's good to have. You know, I got hurt for a reason. And it seems like that was one in the missing pieces missing. He came into this thing, and he's still doing his thing. So I don't know, man. I was brought up. Okay. I win Wiggins. When these nex the next game two zero. But it doesn't matter who's who's making plays long as we win. And on the snap could care careless that leads to X factors. I up the Rams courtesy of Louis Riddick team to.

"Like a really crazy underdog. Well, I mean like. State. We're Cavaliers bit some people pick the cat though. Yeah. But some people pick the Cavs never one. And also that happened in such slow motion. Yes, right. There was like do you had some time to change your mind like to be like, you know, what I think the cats might do this. Whereas like the night of the election. Yeah. There were people getting it wrong, which is like. I don't know what the what the sports like. I don't think there. We have certainly not the same level will also it doesn't matter. Whether I'm wrong about a sports team that wins in to the same degree that it does. Yeah. I think there are things. People have takes on sports that do have broader ramifications and actually affect people. But picking the winners is in one of them. Yeah. But we have bad takes on that to another thing. I think that on the takes front that similar. I love it that you actually don't know much about my side of this. So that we can have a really, whereas I think I know more I think I know something about sports start like you are very much rewarded the hottest take is the one that's like the unconventional like in sports, or oh, it's also in your too. I actually read a lot of Pluto. But I don't watch any television. Zero cable news, right? And I think this is also another similarity the takes the worst taking. Yes. On television. I don't see a lot of toy Twitter like the New York Times. Yeah. Just not. Well, there's some takes. Yeah. There's some takes gentle. But that you that you will be rewarded for the take. That's like actually, you know, actually, Trump is really liberal while Trump is great for an also you got a oh my God this happened during that Trump is actually great for LGBTQ people that was a hot take. I can think of some that does blazing hot take my eyebrows. I think there are some they're definitely sports Santa logs for that. But I don't think people are rewarded for them. Because our most rewarded takers in our industry are more in. Maybe it's your police. I'm curious by out are more rewarded for the performance of the take than the take it self? Actually, like, you alluded to my colleague, Steven A Smith earlier, what makes him so successful as it takes men. He's a theatrical Baker us the I mean, you can watch them with the sound off in. It's the most entertaining thing. So I don't know if that's true in politics. But it's certainly true in sports television. I wish that were true in politics on some level. I wish we had more theatrical people that were also because I will say students myth like he's also smart and like put some he knows his dot. Yeah. Is there a Stephen A in politics? That's such an interesting question. Like, a really great a really performer who also is some is also knows his stuff radio or something. But maybe gets things wrong. Every once in a while. But when he gets it wrong, you see how he got there. You know, what I think is different is because the sports world you can have stronger opinions. Yes. You can't in politics. You can. But that you sort of cross a line like pundits aren't really supposed to have strong. Opinions will there's have takes but not opinion. This is another complicated issue in sports that certainly I think applies you just gonna listen this is like our new podcast amateur hour with Meena. No. But which is bias is an issue. So I am a Seattle Seahawks fan. I came into sports. I used to be a investigative journalist in my old more meaningful life, and now I do sports. But but I was I was born a Seahawks fan. I'm a lifelong went. And I can't hide it because I literally have a Super Bowl tattoo on my arm. You okay, that's visible in certain outfits when I'm on television. So I can't pretend like I it's very subtle. Thank you like. Yeah. I mean, it just it's the Roman numerals for. Yes. It's not a giant CI was kind of hoping for like a Seahawk. Honestly, I even this. Sometimes I look at I like what's wrong with you..

"Iverson, big boy, what's going on, man. How you doing? I'm making knows I need you to help me out here to help you start. Why that you broke down Steph curry, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James Shaquille O'Neal had it on your Instagram page, as well, you got millions of followers on give me why you picked this list break it down from the air. Your had a lot to do with from from top to bottom. At a lot to do with a lot of as you say. On earlier today on show, obviously we didn't with. Play the game. Well. I've ever seen. Squall with my experience playing in the okay, obviously, you know, my jaw your make everybody this on. I think MAMBO as is is some special. I I had to I did pleasure. Wash throughout my career and shack was dominant force and LeBron being LeBron. I really with my list, and I wonder if they get it, right? When he asked me my top five that's my top five everybody on their time. And my child was the guy that I wanna see from night in night out and have the chance to watch those guys. I wouldn't wanna watch shat having never played in his prime against the bonus against Rick Smith's against Patrick Ewing against you on the list goes on and on. So I always had that for dealer because he was so dominant in was great. But I'm talking about the guys from my Iran watch trade against shack in his prime. So it wasn't about it wasn't about making a team that could mansion in when a championship or anything like that. It was just my favorite five guys. I got a lot or that. I love but the world my frie Allen Iverson right here with Steven Steven A Smith show, ESPN radio ESPN news. But hey, I ain't gonna lie to you. I didn't even call you the interview you I called you to seek your sister's 'cause Kobe's looking for me, and I need help here. Because. Voice voice say there, you go. Go ahead. Go ahead. There's Kobe Bryant. And when he comes. I mean, he's more man of those guys. And then we'll be magic list by Ohio. Great magic man or he to what he's done in his career. But my whole thing is a lot of guaranteed. Listen, guys. And they talk about their favorite players and some guys from my everyone would say Oscar Robertson their favorite Sherry with. I didn't watch those guys right before my time. You guys. I was fortunate to watch their careers. You mansard retired? I was too much. You to go and staff to go. You know what I mean? So that's our look that event. A whole bunch of the old school guys. You know, I know what they meant to us far as paving away everything. But I want we decide guys and that excite me. And I wanna see every night. Hey, I let me ask you thoughts about my position here. I took Kobe off your list only for this one reason, I look at Kobe and m j as very similar components. So if you have one you don't necessarily need the other not to take anything Kobe's top ten all time. But I'll look in Kevin Durant. And I'm like he's about five inches taller. He's a sniper extraordinaire, and if you put Kevin Durant on the team with the other four guys you mentioned, it's perfection. That's how okay, and you and you look at it from from my perspective one time. Okay. Okay. I'll tell you. What if I had a Michael Jordan, and I had a guy that was similar. Piper Jordan, I want that guy. I had three other guys joy. I want 'em to you know, what I mean? That's just that's how it is. I mean, that's the greatest to ever play the game. And that says a lot about Kobe even compare him to might say a lot about the Brian. You can even compare Him him. to my definitely not a man to be declared to the greatest to ever play the game. So that's great Kobe in the burners Allen Iverson right here with Steven ESPN radio. ESPN news..

"As a pros read Greg that is a pros. Sportscenter read, I'd like to take the rest of the show off feel like I'm not gonna do any better than getting into debt network out. That was dirty, man. I was dirty. I started the wizards talk too early, but I can talk wizards. And there's no better person to talk wizards with than Candice Buckner who writes, the Washington Post covers the wizards for the post who joins us on the Dan lebatardshow here on ESPN radio Dan lebatardshow with stugatz right now. It's Greg, Cody and Randy Scott and Candice. I don't wanna get too into the weeds on this. But in case there is the casual NBA fan or even just generic show fan who isn't familiar with the dysfunction with the wizards. How best can you encapsulate the timeline of the dysfunction over the last what forty eight seventy two how far do you want to go? Goes back to last Thursday practice, which did not get out until Monday. So for some reason, somebody waited a few days, and I guess had an axe to grind or wanted to get that until out there, and you know, shut up to eight rewatching house-key in shop. Sharon who had the initial details of Bradley Bill saying something in practice and John wall getting fine. But when you start to uncover it pulled this long spoil, you you find out that that practice had this bible into a little bit of chaos where there were multiple players in verbal altercation for what I understand Donna, Jeff green, John. Jeff green, Bradley Bill and also rivers from what I understand. It's just they would say I heard too competitive guys going at it. You know? Each other. And then that's the end. At the huddle. They somebody says, you know, let's just get it out. It wasn't a team meeting. But let's just hash it out. Right now is just talk about what's going on. And that's when Bradley Bill headed blow up in says, something to the fact of I'm sick of this stuff and. PG rated. And we appreciate that. I just I I look at some of your columns, and I read your coverage of it were you say that, you know, some of it was directed Ernie Grunfeld like it goes up it goes up to the GM level. It certainly goes at Scott Brooks. If you can't as if somebody came to you and said, hey, what one piece if we were to trade out one piece, and it's gonna make this maybe not all the way better. But do the most good for the situation. What's the one piece that has to leave Washington? Trade out one piece as in player or front office. He could be anything you you get to play operation here in just one piece out. You have to you have to start at the management level, Ernie Grunfeld. He's in his sixteenth season of being the president of basketball operations that is unheard of in professional sports. Let alone the NBA people who have those ten years like, Pat Riley. I e has had the success to back it up. However, this team run fell out to his credit has had to undergo fastest franchise overhauls when when your franchise player brings a gun into the locker room you have to basically press a nuclear button. Zero. He's had to do that however team that he has constructed has been inconsistent. As as Bradley Bill was saying we through his seven years put up with this. There's been so much inconsistency. So I think it's time to press probably another another button and say, let's let's start over at it may be best that trading everybody away, but something new has to happen. And so obviously, that's a bad. Of course starts at the top Candice. We saw what just happened with Jimmy Butler in terms of his market value. And I assume that Beal and wall would have a similar appeal to a number of teams if it if it ever did reach the point where they wanted to move one of their best players. Has it reached the point in your reporting where there's speculation about who might be in the market for those two or how this might shake up? I'll be honest with you. I don't think it's happening. And although there was a report by my good friend in Charlotte refined now that the Hornets listening. I just don't believe it's happening now. Call me wrong. Call me in idiot. When it does happen or if it does happen. I'll take that. But covering teams for even the short time that I have I've covered it. And this is my third season. They are all about what they have continuity, let it right out. Let's see what happens at the end. And they love they love love love John wall. And Bradley Bill is also a foundational piece. So while I see I can definitely see porter. Being out there. And some of the teams that I I've heard I don't know how it works. But hey, I do believe that they are they they are more interested in moving him. I just don't see John wall or or Bradley Bill a massive shift like that happening talk with Candace Faulkner, the Washington Post who covers the always entertaining, although downright. I dunno caustic situation. Cesspool d- might be a little strong, although it's been used to describe Washington before so talking with Candace about what's going on with the wizards and specifically John wall. So our colleague Steven A Smith has certainly not been shy in some of his summation and some of his description and assessment of blame with what's going on with the wizards. And so he mentioned John wall. And he mentioned some things that he's hearing about walls activities off the court. So I'm not asking you if John walls out of shape, but I am asking you perhaps how much attention his off court behavior is drawing within the locker room within the organization, and maybe even within the city as a whole. Well, the other thing about Stephen expense. I think rose Bosh stuff that is so last week. But so today. The stuff. That's happening today is apparently Stephen a talk too and play with within the locker room who was all about on court matters. And I don't think players really care about what a guy does after his hours. But the the anonymous player essentially ten the early early season struggles on John law and even after last night's win that was the clouds hanging in the locker room. John wall was flat and monotone, and describing you know what what has happened in the game. And I after his grown, you know, you walk away. You him say there's some fake and people. So what is he referring to? And then, you know, more keep Moore's on the record. And to everybody says it's messed up that all these people were talking. And so obviously, they saw the comments that were given to the next minute. And obviously they're reading the reports that are coming out. And that's it's it's a it's a cloud. It's it definitely is a problem when there's a distrust within the fourteen guys around you, and I don't think that's easily healed Scott Brooks the right personality at head coach to fix this. I think you know. It's funny. I I think I think actually. Yeah. We say personality we put like that yet because he's a coaches, I'm sorry. He's a player's coach. And he will go down defending John wall. And he gave an impassioned defensive him yesterday. Kind of that was that wasn't really asked for. But saying, you know, John is going through a lot of people say you came in and out of shape come on. He came in with only seven percent fatty, Pat who in here has since that. And so even after all the stuff of John, you know, use an expletive and addressing him at that Thursday practice. She will always have the public backing of his coach. And I and I think in this organization, that's which I won't need John. Slight. And he remembers John remembers, and if he believes that someone is against so it's going to be an issue. And so the personality coach who was always unwavering and his support that's pro-. That's the best thing. I don't know. But isn't what he needs is it what the franchise needs. Yeah. Kansas the record of the team right now coupled with the drama, and what sounds like real dissension suggests that this could be a an awful season where eventually people accused the team of tanking or what have you? But I also see enough talent on the team were they could totally turn it around and make a run at at at a top four seat. I wonder if you have a sense of how this is all going to shake out. I will say, you know, recent history in two thousand sixteen they were at a very similar to an eight. I believe and came back and won forty nine games made it to game seven of Eastern Conference semifinals, then they'll go they'll they always believed that they had had that game at home or if they would have closed out in Boston and that fourth quarter, they would have faced the cash in the in in the in the in the conference finals. So there's history that dictates that this group is core can absolutely. We turn it around. But. I didn't know I I wasn't aware of the dissension to this depth with that two thousand sixteen team. You know, what I mean that was the war people, you know, pointing a finger at Josh the way that it is happening this year. And again, I just don't think that's a that's an easy bridge repair. Once best been crossed. So no, I don't I don't think they're to tank, and it depends like they do make a major movement and ship ship away major pieces for nothing then obviously that changes. But this team has it in them to turn it around. But I don't know if they if they if they can they can do the same thing that it's twenty sixteen team did because this is a different situation, and this is a different level of drama happening. It is fascinating dysfunction right now with a talented but troubled wizards roster in Washington easier for me to say is bucket. Thank you for the time. And thank you for your coverage. And your insight into what's going on with the wizards. Appreciate you, man. Thanksgiving present you as well. Happy holidays to you as well. "Teddy SPF, JD and JD charge, Bradley. Beal is not the way to go. Steven a Smith were you know, what see smoking first of all Secondly magic and rob Dirk off for the big fish. And you know, that George you got to take down the warriors. You can't do it with the with the non elite player. So if it's not Janas who nobody talks about putting because he oughta saying going anywhere. You throw a big trade package to the Hornets. They're going to end up second. Anyway, they're not you mean, the Pentagon's pal go. Yes. Sorry about. But yeah, they got they got a threat. And that means Lonzo ball throw him in there. The only young guys I'm keeping. And I and we may have to let them go to get Davis. I'm going to be devastated. But I love Josh heart. And how those guys play with a passion. You can see it. I need to see it for me Ingram. This is a sturdier. He he would've shown it by now. So as much as I like, his potential, we don't have we're we've only got LeBron for four years. So we need to make a move quick. Don't rely on Klay Thompson, you know, any of those guys Kawai stop talking about it. And I know magic, and rob I have the faith that they're going for the big fish. So it's either gonna be alert and to me, I'm only looking at Lillard and Anthony NATO, but you're gonna you're gonna have to trade for those guys. I don't know if there's enough ammo to trade for those guys this is why man, and I said this at the time in the summer when I was on the morning show, still I'm like, yo you trade every single last one. Of these dudes for collide, Leonard. Okay. And we had well John the other day when we were out in the plaza last week. And I asked him how close was it says it wasn't really close between those teams because the Spurs wanted a king's ransom. They wanted all the young guys minus ball because remember they didn't want Lonzo and multiple first round picks. And I'm like, okay. But in hindsight shouldn't they have just done that. Because if you've got coli and LeBron then, you're straight. Now. The only issue is what if quiet leaves you. But you have a year to make that work and the weight look Kawais Colli would come to the Lakers. If he knows he's going to be the man, but is not out here. Trying to help LeBron. Kevin Durant then out here trying to help LeBron because they've already got championships. They don't need LeBron for that. They're trying to surpass LeBron. But if they know they're going to be the guy after the bron- whenever LeBron's done within that's three years or four years, or whatever it is. Then maybe they consider it. But I think if anything LeBron potentially hurt your chances with those big fish, which is why.

"Told GM, Scott, Leighton quote, you f ING need me. How would you describe what would happen today. A lot of his true. A lot of it is true, but you gotta think I haven't played basketball in in so long, and I'm so passionate and I love the game and I don't do it for any other reason except for it to compete and go up against the best to try to prove that I can hang. So all my motion came out at one time. What is it the right way to do it? No, but I can't control that when I'm out there competing, like that's my love of the game. That's raw meat me at my finest me and my periods. That's what you're going to get inside the lines. But not everybody welcome into. I take on this Friday e. Thank you so much for hanging with us. He is Steven a Smith looking Dafur state with this gentleman max Kellerman and how we do guys. I'm here. We never feel the need to comment on your appearance because it is obvious that is true. Thank you guys. I appreciate them. We ready to do this because we got a whole lot to talk about today starting with Jimmy Butler stealing the headlines this morning after being back with his team for the first time since asking for a trade three weeks ago, Butler knowledge into our Rachel Nichols that most of the reports by Adrian Watson rescue were true that he went off during practice targeting president, coach, Tom sibito, GM, Scott laid it and teammates, Karl Anthony towns and Andrew Wiggins. Stephen, what do you make of Jimmy's explosion onto the court. Well, what I made of it most ago when I came right on the set and reported it, what did I tell y'all a couple of months ago, I told you how he felt about call Anthony towns. I told you how he felt about Andrew Wiggins. And what happened yesterday, he's stroz in the practice after heating get the trade that he wanted, which was to end up in Miami after he believed that the Minnesota Timberwolves have been procrastinating and roadblocking deal to Miami or purpose because their belief is he's going to. He's not going anywhere. He's gonna come up in here and he's gonna play for us just like we plan no need to overreact whatsoever. So what he did was give them a taste of what life is going to be like maybe not every day, but periodically I'm going to question the commitment, a call, Anthony towns. I noted kids about winning, but I think he kids just as much about as numbers. I'm going to question a heart of Andrew Wiggins who I think are soft. This continental tissue. I'm not talking about me. I'm saying, this is what I've been told that Jimmy Butler feels about Karl Anthony towns. Y'all guess how I know. That my point to you is he's going to go up in and he's going to make sure that it is. No, he doesn't want to be here. And here is why he's going to go after these dudes yesterday. Let's take into account what transpired. And this is where I really, really want to go with this most of anything. We know Jimmy Butler wants out, but we also know that they have contractual rights to him that if he doesn't go if he doesn't get traded, but he refuses to play the Minnesota. He's going to lose money. When you're the thirtieth overall pick you wanna. I wanted to first overall pick like cats call Anthony towns or Andrew Wiggins. You're not, you don't want to jeopardize your money because you worked hard to get to that point. So we know that. But the point that I want to get to more than anything else max is this. Do you know that folks are reporting not only the Jimmy Butler take the third stringers and beat the starters, but due to walk it around laughing about it, no wonder he wants to hell out of here..

"The first part of their goal and our colleague steven a smith yesterday thinks that ceiling is pretty high boston has a shot toronto can score but really not from the perimeter with those other guys outside of the rosen so when you look at it from that perspective i look at toronto being a two point shooting team more so than at three point shooting team i look at boston with not enough debt because of the absence of kyrie irving and gordon hayward i look at lebron james being alone ranger having no help whatsoever i think that will not bode well against them in the eastern conference and it's because of those three realities that i've got to philadelphia seventy sixers going to the nba finals going to the nba finals steven a with the take a listen a lot of as this progressed and we actually saw i guess you could say to a point cleveland not be able to flip the proverbial switch that we keep talking about going to the place with this new group of players that they change up at the trade deadline and you knew the injuries boston we're facing even though are one game away from being getting past milwaukee toronto got up by washington so we're not sure about them so what does lean to philadelphia team really that has to count on their first round pick this year mark foley's come back did have the the youngest person ever had a triple double but you know it's been in be embiid has been radic it's been ben simmons read it though is thirty three so as we looked at a future this team you know we have to see you know what his role continues to be as he's the one of the elder statesmen on that team but you got a lot i think in the east between milwaukee between philadelphia and between boston you have three teams that you really really can be talking about for the next few years yeah no as the stranglehold is officially loosened on the eastern conference with lebron james at least in the current form on this team that's absolutely what we've been opened up to worth noting by the way that as stephen a delivered yet another scorcher you was sitting next to alan iverson there who may a little bug in his ear influence had a little bit on showing some love yeah in this situation so phillies likely is going to get.
