DOJ Proposed Legislation Asking Congress to Weaken Section 230 Protections for Social Media Companies
"Now the DOJ, the DOJ has sent draft legislation to Congress on what's known as section two thirty so far guys seem that there are no Democrats who support this Melissa. All right. Thank you Illinois. So potentially this sector faces two separate issues, antitrust concerns, but also efforts to curb the protections afforded to them by section two, thirty of the FCC. Karen, are these I feel like they've been these these threats have been around forever and nothing's really hit the stocks. Right we saw GDP are and. A couple of years ago, and the resolution always ends up being a positive and the announced of the action itself or the threat of it is what ways on the style I feel like they've they've been under this cloud for a long time and I think that you know. If we see a Biden victory then I think the boiling of this. This is like front and center right now I think that will recede and I think not I know it somewhat bipartisan but it's not a burning issue for the Democrats like it is for the trump administration so that could happen. and. I. Think you know bad news is already priced in Yeah Steve You agree with that the take on on biting Biden being friendlier a friendlier administration. attack. No because if you go back and replay the debates, we had Elizabeth Warren we had Kamala Harris. Joe Biden but but I don't think he was asked to weigh in, they would like to break up the large large cap tech companies. So there's GonNa be a real push at you believe it is bipartisan and I don't think the foot is going to be pulled off the gas the more the Democrats get pulled left and start listening to Elizabeth Warren. Harris as the VP so I don't think there is an easier path for tech. going. Forward.
Apple stock continues to drop
"We're entering the final stretch of the year in here we all with the five hundred virtually flaps for the year. So far guy in various shows we've talked about various iterations of apple being the king of the market apple being the tell the market appleby and the barometer. Here we are with apple down about fourteen percent. In. The past month. So what does that? Tell you. And I go back to some Steve set a week or so ago that you know he -ticipant at trading down to this or that ninety, five, ninety, six level and I happen to agree with them. One of three that we saw on Monday was a twenty five percent move from peak to trough. But historically, and there is history for this the sell offs of magnitude Annapolis. You've seen anywhere from thirty two to thirty, eight percent and I think you know that ninety five level probably put you right there on the screw so. What it tells me is as much as everybody you know I understand the reason you wanna own apple you just want to close your eyes their here's a stock that's given you many opportunities over the last decade. To get in at meaningfully lower levels than the prior all time high, and in recent past I, mean within the last two years a move from two twenty five, which was at the time it all time high one fifty and a straight line, and then recently I know this is pre split but the move from three twenty, five down to two forty and a straight line. So the stocks given you those opportunities and quite frankly we're on the precipice of exactly that again mill. You know you could two guys point that hundred day moving average is now ninety seven and apple, and you can to a guy just said before you can close your eyes and you've been rewarded with that in the stock for me I think those days are gone. And you'd want dip by as you said before, this is the ultimate buyers barometer. Now you have an upward moving two hundred day it's at eighty, four nine. I'm gone past the ultimate. We really get the sell off that I think we're going to get. That's the level Melissa that's going to be tested in apple and just think about how many people will get gutted in their idea, their brain, their emotions if apple traits to mid eighties that will be terrible for the overall market. Sentiment is is key here Karen especially when you're talking about a lot of retail investors to had gone into the markets in general gone into apple specifically wrote it all the way up and here we are I'm wondering if you think apple is as important a barometer for the market or if there's maybe something else on your screen whether it be a stock you own or not. That is a good tell for you on the market's direction. I think apple is still pretty good on the market's direction. I think long long all the way to the top still long probably by more trades down. If turns on further I. think it still is such an Americana Company and I think that the Nasdaq has obviously moved market up and it's now move the market down I. Still Think it's central to our all of our sentiments very widely owned retail stock as well. So I do think apple is still barometer but I think today I think it was a guy talking early that this fiscal. Floor not being there I think is increasingly important Kudos to Brian Kelly for calling when it really I felt it was very very likely to happen now likely. Yeah. I mean that seems to be out of the market at this

Maybe I just need to live on your farm. But then we'll just chat to each other all day and don't you have a firm like as well as until I'm able to get a what you're going to get like a full far because if you have horses someone has to be around all the time they can call like like I mean. They're just very delicate and ambitious in the in the world of A and it's a wild amount of shed. I mean it's expensive but then sieve and I want to do that. I wanted to donkeys horses. I'm going to do the whole thing but I probably need a couple of years to get that. Get that land right at that Lance I love how unapologetically just animal loving you are. Is it crazy? Well do people think I'm crazy? I don't think so. I think that it's I think because the way you do it is not preachy. I could name some people who are just really tough to follow. Because it's like just stop you know like the whole militant Vegan thing I think is Is is is a little bit it to me. It makes the people that you actually could convince or that you could interest shuts them down and makes them not it stopped. I shut down when people yell at me. And it's it's there's there's a real feeling that if you're not vegan enough you know like where we start like actually alienating people who are on the same fucking team that's exactly so I I look and I don't post most of my animal rescue stuff because a lot of the reason. I'm able to get animals out of Abusive situations the agreement. I says I won't put this on social media. Your name will not be involved. Give me the tiger and the horse. Nothing else will be sad right. So that's a big part of it so most of it is anonymous so but I do try to post if I'm trying to get a dog a home or trying to just go. Hey we're in quarantine grey to foster dog you know like Never WANNA bully people but because I have so many animal people sort of in my world which great before. He has not even look below my neck. I mean granted this is probably just the Lee Sexual. This managed to neuter myself with his shirt. But I mean I'll be wearing something or if someone sees me eating honey they'll be like be rape right. I post videos like taking bees out of the pool like so much trouble. It was it was when I was in that same fucking theater in Vancouver and someone came through the line and they said hey like Like are you still Vegan or and I was like. Oh well you know like once when I got cats and then I was just like a gate you know and I I just you know became PESCA. -Tarian feel like you know like I gotta feed my cats. Well Yeah I gotta feed my cats me like my dogs like I. I just don't don't fucking DIG Vegan Dog Food. I it part of the reason. I don't eat red meat as I feed so much red meat to my dogs and so I try to just go like okay this like that. Yeah and also I like a fish. Yeah and I also like started chicken like we've been doing chicken I would. Also we tore lots. There's times where it's like and because I had such crazy eating disorders stuff if I'm in an airport and I the only choices like chicken soup or like diet coke like I Gotta. I gotta do that or else. I'm on the slippery slope of my diet. Just like if I'm you know the Tulsa airport and there's only a borrow pizza and Hudson News right like I can't just only drink for lunch because I'm like not eating chicken like that. Gets INTO A WHOLE OTHER UNHEALTHY? Sort of thing But but yet I also I also think people just need to be on their own and part of it too. I told this this girl that like you know I've ages line got blerim like I eat. Fish actually subscribed to the belief. That fish is good for me. Yeah certainly better than all the fucking like fake mock meat bullshit really not good for. Yeah and you know so like eggs and fish and then it was like and I didn't even think anything of it. I posted of a picture old picture of me and crammed into a fridge. These fruits and veggies. You know and I was just like man my just like fuck. Vegans can be really annoying. Man You now like really annoying. I just wanted to say like like when people are on your. Let's let's not alienate people. Who are really proactive. About like furthering progress or animal welfare. You know when somebody isn't quite up to your personal standard of veganism free when when they're not like let's not attack the people who are really proactive. And benefiting say I think in anything extremism is where it should hits the fan so I'm sure there are cool. Republicans Cool Democrats. It's just the extreme will republicans. Look I know the fucking cool Republicans who are like you know very liberal in some areas and and I know some that go back and forth. This connection with the the barriers were eroded now I'm interacting with the spirit entities. And so I was. I was you know. Took to the Internet to research spirituality and learn what what's going on what am I privy to let me learn about what it is and I came upon this video of like a fucking Krishna Consciousness Guru in India and he just said one thing that caught me said. How can you expect to be saved if you eat meat like just seemed like you know and I think by any buddies standards whether it's like Go TO HEAVEN BE SAVED. Nirvana like whatever it is like. There's some kind of a consensus that human experience is is essentially. We're in a fucking jam and we're trying to get out. We want to ascend as we're in this fucking thing and it's like we need to be saved. We need to talk in here. We need to go to heaven. But whatever we're in we're in we're gonNA fucking jam and like the idea of this is to somehow like no matter what religion spiritual like you know. Wisdom is like our purposes to get out of this jam by finding salvation. And this guy who is like this spiritual. How can you expect to be saved and I thought Oh no? I'm not going to be saved because I'm fucking eating meat and I. I stopped eating meat except for fish at that time. Because all fucking Jesus like was fishermen man like eating fish to be cool. "It upfront. But the beauty is David. They've accepted it at the happy time. And so when when you do actually get to use it. And it is that more stressful time. You're not adding stress to the project. You're actually in some ways relieving it because it's like hey no problem where we're just. GonNa will make that change and we'll just drain it out of that that one why I've heard On the unrelated note builders say when a project go sideways. They had intuition about it. They didn't listen to that little voice in their head that either said stay away from this client or don't let them get ahead of you or Do you put any stock in that. Kind of intuition. Do you have that quality? If you've seen that manifests itself yeah so I think it comes with time and experience and I good friend Bill Builder that I've done went to work with and one of his favorite comments that he says that absolutely love is. I have a handful of clients. I wish I paid them all a thousand dollars to go away. Would it make more money and I find that really interesting but but up until? I don't know you know only a couple of years ago. I think was the first time I said no to a potential client and I just said one probably about ten months ago and the guy like almost want to have an argument with me on why he was offended. Yeah like why I needed to take on and I basically told them I said Joe. I said I send your proposal. You debated it. I altered it in your favor. You had this third party friend of yours. I had to get on the phone and chat with him. And then I'm chatting with you and it's like you don't accept proposal. It's it's you know we're we're into this for like six weeks. I probably have three or four hours buried into this talking with you meeting you at the job site. I told you that your schedule wasn't realistic to me. And and all of this and I said if we can start out at a happy place on Day One. Where are we going to be day two hundred bright? 'cause things we did you don't get better right. They they might get the same or carry the same happiness. But I don't have experience in starting project and having all of a sudden be like some kind of dream later. There's things that get added to that. So and when I told him though is what do you mean he goes? You can't do that I can. I can't I said I'm a Reno remitting my Proposal I wish you luck. And he's like well. We really need to talk about this. I I I need to get this role in and I'm like no we've talked enough. I'm done yeah I've been meaning to drive by and see because I I have had other people that have done that to me. You know one one of the things. I try to be as when when we have that first initial meeting and I talk about projects with people trying to be brutally honest. And you know I've had clients you know where we're meeting in say March or April and they say oh we want to be in the ground by September. And I'm like I don't see this happening is probably next spring while I've been talking to some other people and they said we. Can you know go for a permit and in August or September my builders ready and it's like then go work with them? I don't know what to tell you. Were not going to work together. And I'M NOT GONNA be able to make that happen and a couple of these were in the town. I live in woollen behold. I drive by there. September nowhere October nowhere November December January February march. I see a fence around the property. And they start restoring down on and sleep. You Know I. I lost that job waiting to work together. Because you didn't trust me and that's fine because if you don't trust me. We shouldn't embark on the project. How do you get the confidence to do that? Steve it's got to be very scared right you just like you just you just said No. I don't need this paycheck right. It is but it isn't because remember what I said before if you firmly believe that. We're in the job of managing expectations than have to sat him. So if you come to me and say Hey Steve. I want to build this million dollar house but you know you think we can have drawings by the fourth of July hell no maybe fourth of July Twenty One. We can be ready for it but certainly not this year and we'd be lucky to get it in by the fall of this year and there are some clients that you know. Sit there and say that re. I need to make this happen. Well that's fine. Find somebody that can make APP. But it's no different than the conversation of people come to me and say oh. I want to do this this this and that and I've even stopped asking. Do they have a budget? I start now my question is do you have a number that scares you and it's It starts the conversation because they come back with you. Mean by scares me said. Well if I asked you for a budget you're gonNa tell me a number that's about twenty percent lower than what you would actually do or a number that kind of red lines your budget right so rather than ask you that and play games with numbers. I'm just asking you. What is that red line number? What what's the number that scares you like if the first number is a five on this project? Does that scare you? And I'm not talking fifty grand. Oh Yeah we're thinking the first number is a three okay. Well if you're thinking it's a three then we either need to cut the scope you know by forty percent or you need to come up with more money in and they say well. We have another builder in this other person. Said you know we could do this for one. Hundred Eighty five dollars a square foot or whatever. The number is it doesn't really matter but so what I tell them is I said okay. I said you asked me. I told Jim being brutally honest here I come in here and say yeah you can do that for one hundred and fifty bucks a foot. I can charge you up the WAZOO. Draw up put in fancy stone. Masonry fireplace all this stuff and you can give it to the builder and he tells you it's five fifty and you look at me like I have three is and and I just simply tell you. Well you pick an expensive builder and you made expensive choices and your checks or cash. By the way I could do that to you but not being honest upfront because I want to embark on this journey with honesty. I don't WANNA I don't WanNa be lying to you on day one so I need you to respect that and I also need you to be honest with me on day one. So that when we embark on this project then we're good and for the most part a lot of people appreciate it and and I tell them up front and you know the builders that have been working.

"Everyone Hey Steve it's Steve you're talking about money you've maybe heard the the million versus billion let me try it again K. what are we doing these live anymore these on our address is to try to get the best of luck Hey we've Hey again took three Hey Steve thanks Donna time now for me to put in perspective for you what a million dollars is versus a billion dollars now we've done this before with the video where a guy was on Snapchat or tick tock or something showing people what a million dollars looks like us grains of rice versus what it looks like as a billion dollars but unless you're seeing it it didn't really make a ton of sense now shift the time shout out to my brother in law David Castillo for alerting me to this Hey Dave so let's do this in terms of seconds okay okay listen to this one million seconds equals eleven and a half days okay everybody following so far yep eleven and a half days now that's a lot of days one billion seconds K. equals thirty one and three quarter years no read it again one million seconds equals eleven and a half days one billion seconds equals thirty one and three quarter years see that that sounds good we have words to explain yeah so if you're like oh he's a millionaire or a billionaire whatever same thing it's not even close so Jeff Bezos who's worth one hundred and forty five point one billion dollars hi how many years without multiply the two yeah you multiply that by thirty one point seven five oh my god only one thing about this number it is yes four thousand six hundred and three years while well that's impressive I would like him to give me some of that also you've heard a trillion in terms of like the the stimulus packages and all that so a million is a love a million seconds equals eleven and a half days a billion seconds eagles thirty one and three quarter years trillion seconds equals thirty one thousand years holy smokes that is Cray Cray thank you for putting that in perspective for make me feel the way I feel which is now like you only lived a half as much can we calculate my worth in time hold on Manuel we also saw this there's an article we meaning the financial team that I work with we saw an article about how people make the most money they can on weekends now granted were in a standstill right now so I'm I'm aware of that but when the economy bounces back when things are open up again we're gonna be trying to figure out how can I get back involved make some extra money pay off some debts at cetera okay okay so with that they compiled a list of ways that other folks have made money in and people would just submit this and say here's what I did how bout this just a few weeks ago before the virus forces into this world wide quarantine someone wrote I had my best we can pull CD sales CD sales how about that wow okay I read the I now that's something that if you do you have to be a musician for that specifically so that's not going to but then again remember this a collection of odd ways to make money okay okay renting out your backyard okay who's laughing that's the puddles puddles exhale why the most this person ever made was three thousand dollars we rented out the backyard for parking during the state fair that was held a few blocks away and come on a root yeah we undercut the fair parking price and we're only a block further away literally I found a fortune in my backyard that's awesome fleet market flipping I wonder how the the grass looks like it it all went back in the side by the way someone had made eighteen hundred dollars citing a neighbor's yard a few years ago said my backer for the whole week but help me get out of a financial hole maybe call them first there you go right all work together now awfully market flipping this process is the most I ever made over a weekend was eighteen hundred dollars this was approximately four years ago when I started selling on Amazon and eBay platform so here's how I was at a flea market and found a weird looking video game made for out PC personal computer I looked up the cops on Amazon install that it sold for seventy dollars but it only cost me eight Bucks cell I asked the gentleman at the flea market you have anymore these types of games he said he had twenty six more of the exact same one and he would sell them all for five dollars each yeah great score they all sold within three months that's making some extra money that's being resourceful resides full Ryan you could do this with your new vinyl flattening service yes send me your bank records and I'll put him in my oven restoration yeah right that's that could be your side hustle restoration decide someone making some money on eBay if you guys ever made money on eBay yeah what a bunch of stuff leather jacket was from a bobble heads all sorts of stuff I have lots of bobble heads do you have like a what do you want me to take a picture please on the one room is this in the the basement in a band a storage bin wow I will take a picture of my bobble head okay that articles of done accounting continuing never know what the next chapter will bring us eBay selling so the most as person ever made in a week it was about seven hundred fifty Bucks I was at a garage sale and these people said I could have this box of stuff if I wanted it they were going to throw it away so I threw my car not thinking much about it when I got home and started looking up the contents of the box I found that I had several pieces of rare vintage C. B. radio equipment I put it all up for auction on eBay I couldn't believe how many people started bidding I hadn't thought much about selling on eBay at that point but after that experience I decided to start doing it as a side hustle and I made about ten thousand a year that is incredible how about that Hey have you guys ever done the have you watch storage wars I have before a little bit here years ago I mean talk about dumpster diving well yeah I mean you really are taking a chance because then you end up with all that crap have to sort through it get rid of the crappy stuff there's hardly ever anything in there right yeah you're right Donna sorry what was that I was waxing there's a pandemic gonna do where you can't go any said that I'm not allowed to chew and eat on the air and you can't wax your upper lip on the air please tell me it was the upper lip it was but I'm not too long overdue sorry okay you were saying how about this working on a chartered yacht now this is a funky way to make some weekend money in my early twenties this person says I worked on charter yachts my biggest weekend was a three day higher base pay was five hundred dollars per day then came the tip my portion was twenty one hundred dollars that's incredible I watch below deck and the tips that they divvy up like they'll let the crew will get like a twenty five thousand dollar tip and then they divvy it up among however many there are like seven people eight people that sounds like fun finally on the list and this comes from all budgets are sexy dot com he says this is perhaps my favorite entry that made me smile the most the person writes the most I made on the weekends amounted to this long kayak trips many family dinners walks in the woods wine parties with friends and time spent with my aging parents all priceless in the last ten years have not made any money on the weekends I believe in striving for work life balance and after joining the fire movement financially independent retire early I've conditioned myself to work hard on week days and have been able to work two jobs one career on one side hustle Ryan without having to work weekends I read somewhere once that no one request to have this put on their gravestone I wish I worked more that's right I happen to agree that's a Susie wrote that Ryan's wait no no loses money Ryan your calls job side hustle calls closure says a side job but when they open up again they're gonna need someone who is a reassuring voice in the stores people get back into the stores and by many of their wonderful wares I'm I who knows I might be busy in the next next few months here is D. Q. I will will will will what what are you talking about you know but the the very important duties in the ever increasing pressures of the current job of the don and Steve show producer you know the rigors the rigors of it all you guys don't understand I get it but long I get it Ryan thank you are you gonna wax the lower part of my lips initial break I would love to because I just got this little piece left all right all right to take a break thank you Steve that was very enlightening got it done when we come back on the Donna and Stephen puddle show get some funny stories from today and our Facebook question we'll get to some of your replies to the question we're gonna find out when we come back he doesn't know it does grow it up okay good talk guys we'll be right back get your laughs after lunch or anytime with Colleen and Bradley who would you rather be quarantine with Madonna or publication ship ship me wild you made a very.

"Network good afternoon hello good evening Steve it's good to talk to you and you know it's very interesting and I'll try to run through this last night I was listening and you have like a vintage crowd of listeners which I find incredible how far back some of these guys go and I got two things to run by you I hope you hang in there okay your guys were talking last night one guy was talking about old movies and I heard this is while I was in bed trying to fall asleep but I managed to stay awake you made mention angels with dirty faces and Jimmy Cagney and the kids are not right now how people got well anyway cut to the chase there's an act the which I'm sure your fans know you know by the name of Lawrence tourney Lawrence Lawrence right now a while I'm not allowed to tell me as well as some of his stuff well Steve he's got to movie stardom short of people listening to because you've got a vintage crowd you're like a vintage bottle of wine the movies all want to kill yeah and the best one that I think I've got this thing that's in the top five of the old movies as a movie by him by the name of the devil farms are right those movies have to be found and seeing what you download them or whatever okay I did two movies to see that guy was incredible than he was in reservoir dogs with Michael mats in Adelaide generation of actors yeah that was a great movie yeah large Cheney was the older guy with a bald head you know that's the guy that that that should look up those thing is Steve okay somebody mentioned Bob grant last night yes I'm talking about and talking about Mario Cuomo and enhance Cuomo right speaks those gentlemen Dave come from Jamaica estates in queens and Donald trump's and Donald their role from that very very precluded mansion type of receptionist thank John university years ago Bob grant was on his show he I think he came on at three o'clock because I used to listen to him grant was telling his audience whatever you do do not vote for Mario Cuomo and this was going on for years four months and four months and that's when Pataki governor George Pataki rant against Cuomo for the may or your governor of New York City I think because of Bob grant that that Pataki wants that power that was on the radio and great was very conservative correct what state grants he was a he was very it was definitely also right now all the way and I am very intelligent man like all you guys are but he he preached to his audience and and Cuomo who I thought was going to win the election because he has so much charisma Boca de eighty four run yes under Obama and Steve one of the things I was I was at a reception out in C. click Long Island beautiful town out here Mario Cuomo was nineteen eighty three or eighty four Mario Cuomo was walking out with an entourage and he was walking out of the box with all the body because I was coming in for the party and I just thought it was a standard S. man and I put my hand that nice to Mr Cuomo how you're going to stop his hand that he shook my hand said take care yourself buddy I mean this was a guy that was called places but well that's a dad that that's the that's what he should have done I have read that and that's the good thing now because I understand where you're coming from that most people buy to walk by with their noses up in the air and here was somebody you know I mean let's let's face it that's what you should do if you're any kind of notable or rock star or celebrity or professional I whatever it may be if you're a public figure even if you're running for office haven't yet to have one the bottom line is you have to press the flesh yeah I had that day glad to hear that he did that it was covered with security Steve and he put his hand out it was like he reminded my my uncle Joe he was a police officer in New York but the final thing is I believe that I'm seeing Andrew Cuomo making a run for it at some point you think Chris Grove Orlando the address via yeah I'm I'm I'm visualizing that enough now that he's going to make a run at it he made it clear again this morning because he does have on on CNN he does have you know a lot of good the press briefings on the with the virus every single morning and I see a month yet and I'm sure he's on other channels as well but I see him on CNN because you get the reaction right after the bottom line is that he brings that up all the time I'm not running for vice president I'm not running for president I arrived the governor this is all I care about I'm from queens Avenue your car the whole thing already and I'm not going anywhere now watch because you know that eventually they're going to come after him and he may give it a ride will say because he's still a young man fault that you charge the remember one thing that I'm gonna tell you tell you that you have a great bunch of listeners because I listen and you are a bottle of Bertolli arm around right now you know why you're not acting or not you have that audience speaking vintage fall one letter kaval of it that's great and I had Jimmy thanks a lot for your call you know I've mentioned that divvying and isolation with everything going on with everybody's life I've turned upside down not just in New York City added New York state but just about everywhere that I think of what what we could all be drinking if you are windows self chord changes something I came up with you know I've got a couple of weeks ago of this top of the head to head with the tech coming up with the quarantine me so that if you are in quarantine if you are in isolation and keep in mind this is for the rest of the country all of this in New York are very comfortable and very familiar with being in isolation we learned all about isolation watching Carmelo Anthony when he was a member of the New York knickerbockers but that the quarantining is Jan and wrong and and and whiskey with a touch of honey and of course the touch of honey comes from a free range bees that are gluten free so you ought to give it a try it's a very healthy drink for anyone that might be an isolation that might be of no self quarantine I know for the eight five five two one two four two two seven that's eight five five two one two four C. B. S. M. let's go to jam from Oak Park California jam we are on the CBS sports radio network thank you Steve and good morning I guess almost eight well yeah almost yeah eleven salute about eleven thirty four here eastern time via well you had a call earlier was that talking about body legals yes I had I had the occasion to meet Bobby winkles about four years ago okay I met him at his home in palm desert okay a friend of mine was helping him write his book and R. he was the nicest man I've never you know I did notice background at AS you knew that he was with the angels and and the and the Kanye's as a coach and manager how did you meet him how did you my friend what was the former bad boy with angels in the nineteen seventies and eighties and he was befriended by Nolan Ryan o'connell Ryan about ten years ago eight years ago and he was very friendly with Bobby winkles called wings and he was just that I mean that's how we we actually grow great way we're going to we're gonna go to legal Saosin gonna I'm gonna help you know do some work on his book and and stop as house and desert CM probably at yeah I know I did work in a southern California for a couple of years of now late seventies and and early eighties so that's a long long time ago but certainly even before that and certainly sends those years in southern California he had a reputation that he earned not only again this great baseball coach with a terrific human being and living to the age of ninety he had quite a life that says and he had the respect of the other respective everybody who played form and you could understand why Bergeron Rick money play formative so yeah yeah yeah it's one of the many people that you know going it I I've talked to you before couple times before and one thing I failed to mention was in nineteen eighty four a road from California to New York City in back to California okay really yes in nineteen eighty one to your city and I was I was I had the occasion to have my bicycle stolen battery park mmhm and that wasn't a ride home as a fly home one on an airplane and obviously and I got to has taken the tour to statue liberty St came back nothing left listen to cable on and I was a hundred and you and you never thought about getting another bike in New York and then writing now that now why not what why now my my mother while my mother was the one who told me don't let your bike in New York City you know and just like in my my my late aunt my late cousin I stayed at her house on Bleeker street should look for oddly enough the World Health Organization and I stay with her and I have never been to east of the Mississippi and here in Montana I'm twenty one years old run and bike ride the bicycle to you in your city and was the first thing SCO the twin towers well here here's the thing your mother obviously showing as some bias about New York City you're buying you're right what was that that I just heard a little less I don't I don't need to have them laughing at my at you're right this is a little something from the for the central nervous system yeah yeah but here's the thing listen I I we have to take a break and I thank you very much for taking the time to call me though here his mother showing a little bit of bias about New York City the bike it could have been stolen anywhere all right no from this number eight five five two one two four two two seven that's eight five five two one two four.

text following Marty at the very top back I can't fully prepared as you can imagine yes we'll take it away can what's number one okay well number one is kind of an obscure book but it's meant the world to me Shawn green the former outfielder the way of baseball finding stillness at ninety five miles an hour in this even I talked about this the other day I just finished Andrea good dollars no more which I thought was great so it's fresh in my mind and I have that right up there anything David Halberstam wrote excuse me I have the teammates is my selection for today and then the last pass by Gary Pomerantz the story of Bob Cousy and bill Russell and then anything that Roger Angell did on baseball this anthology stick any of them and they're fantastic I have to give a nod to Bruce Jenkins the story of his dad I'm not really a a baseball or a sports book but that was wonderful and also his biography of Pete Newell I have up there just for something light Rick Reilly it is golf book anyway thanks for nothing I mean they're just those kind of light it might be helpful during the times we're living in and west by west jury west autobiography is incredibly it's kind of dark and poignant very honestly was just incredible I have to have money ball in there of course and then I thought this might be apropos for today yeah that's Doris Kerns Goodwin and we saw next year I listen I love that book he left or I have to do you know the book he left off there Steve well he left a lot but what you have in mind what I live pictures book off there yeah he left and when we are together that went under he left his own book on Steve all the other tournaments yeah you can't put your own book on that just so I think we ought to have that as part of the rules on the website that you guys are developed yes and no no no okay he okay Sean yeah I just I just listeners might be wondering what was it about the Shawn green book the way of baseball I read it enjoyed it interview them but tell us why it meant so much to you it's very much a deeply personal journey for me with that book I've read it maybe four or five times at least and I think in the lease for me in my work and also in life we're looking for ways to focusing kinda remove barriers maybe get your ego your mind out of things especially for me in broadcasting baseball and so there are great lessons in their life lessons I think on that are really appropriate and as it is in part of the the title of book finding stillness and I think it's something that you know I've really been trying to strive for so it had a huge influence on me since since your kid that you brought up the book the last past the one about Cruz in Russell and I only came across there recently and I thought it would be a book more about bill Russell which is not very much but it's an amazing story of Bob Cousy who you know if you're of a certain age you kinda knew who he was most of our listeners probably a little too young but this guy with me if you want to look at a guy who changed basketball but more importantly it's a great American a guy who take figured out the race issues early on I mean it's that book to me a grant me more than any sports book I've read in twenty years yeah I'm glad you said that standard for those of us who grew up in really were influenced by sports in the sixties and for me growing up in LA and all the rivalry games between the Lakers and the Celtics so it really brought to Z. the life and also the difficulty he had over the years and his relationship with Russell and that was one of the the themes of the book of course so I when ed farmer passed away the other day the first person I thought of was you because I remember you said he meant so much to you in getting your big league broadcasting career started I wonder if you could talk a little about him and also about the gays long time minor league coach and manager Webster garrison who is battling cove in nineteen and a Louisiana hospital right with western the only thing I could say is and following Susan foster on Twitter and he's done a great job informing all of us on so many things that were a day ago I think that she had mentioned and also wrote a story that he was doing better so that's really good news that we're obviously hopeful for him and for so many people right now but as far as energy is concerned I got hired by the white Sox to work on the weekends my assignment was to work one game a week which I did for four years beginning almost literally twenty eight years to the day as we speak and added played many years over a decade in the big leagues may the authority for the white Sox in nineteen eighty this is the last major league game literally for the aids and when I joined the Sox I'd only been to Chicago a couple times I didn't know anybody in the city I knew nobody there wasn't no one beside Joey Cora who I knew on the ball club I didn't know where the press boxes were around the American League or the clubhouses and ed was my tour guide he took me under his wing unit use me to everybody in a situation that could have been really difficult because I was the new kid on the block on the smooth that out for me in you know I've I've owed him this great that ever since then I think you knew how I felt about it we had a chance to talk quite a bit toward the end of the baseball season last year but I think we all look back on our lives and our career is it people who were instrumental in many ways and for me ed farmer was one of those people can great to have you with us this morning you know I I wish we were hearing your voice in a different environment to you know coming from a ball park some were telling us to score in the account and and all of that I'm sure you wish you were to but world or what we can't thank you my friend thanks for all you guys are doing what you're doing is really important right now thanks Kenny scanning can Korak one of the good guys in the world not just in the business of broadcasting C. thanks for bringing a modern hoping to do this I think did that did you tell me John Shea the the great baseball right John he's going to talk about his new book twenty four life's lessons I think from Willie Mays that so that's gonna be fun that's Monday at eight fifteen and by the way I've been trying to get candy to take up but pick up where Josh Lewin left off taking a hiatus from his play by play calls of every day Monday in tasks Kenny would be great at that yeah he would be I think what what is fans may not even know about it you know I've known him a long time kid has a wicked sense of humor very funny hi and he's such a great straight man in his professional job I mean he just gives it to you straight but but under the skin there there is a very very funny human being in fact he does one of the best John Miller first editions I've ever heard he does John Miller impersonating John Miller showing of Japanese baseball game he does it all good stuff Steve thanks we'll talk to you again at eight forty five and I will as soon as I can get a few spare minutes get all of these booklets together get him up on KCBS radio.

"Yes so that's that's what normally drives the aurora and those particles come in and they balance off the upper atmosphere and released light and in the this case it's actually a different mechanism in the upper atmosphere that we think is producing the light it's that the drift is so strong that the plasma that charged particles move and the heat up the neutral particles in the very upper level of our atmosphere and so that's a different mechanism causing the light why is why is steve pinky purple that also we don't fully know and it is related to to that drift we think that at these latitudes the chemistry of the upper atmosphere is getting changed by the strong drift and so you have some really exotic wavelengths of light being excited that are different than the wavelengths that are excited in the normal aurora because of the different process it's amazing to me that we didn't know steve existed until now yet this region is not a very well studied and so there are still some mysteries out there and so it's really exciting that citizens scientists with their photographs have captured these new aspects so mostly steve is purple but you also get a little bit of green light that pops up and moves around and that is some really exotic plasma physics that we don't even understand yet where can i see steve so you can see steve it's been a reported all over l berta and most of canada also scotland tasmania i just found out today newzealand and slightly less exotic places like michigan montana.
