"His knowledge needing of his mind. He's got a two guys one of them Stevo Cortez. I don't know the other guy's name. And they're talking about Charlottesville because of Joe Biden's announcement video which is all focused on Charlottesville, which said was good politics. When we saw the video everybody's talking about Charlottesville. Why did President Trump say there are good people on both sides? Now, I've said this many times I want to make sure that I'm on the record. The president did call out the white nationalist. And did totally condemn them in that in that statement. But he boarded the conversation by talking about this idea of good people on both sides. There was a clear message. He should have given. He didn't give it. Is the president's racist. I don't think so he wasn't a racist. When he was getting awards like that. With Rosa Parks. He wasn't a racist. When he was taking those photos with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. He wasn't a racist. For all those years. He was building in New York. What there's a claim from the seventies. That one of his apartment complexes didn't rent people who were black, okay. Why hope they got that resolved? And I hope somebody who in charge of renting the people if that thing wasn't allowed was then fired did the edict come down from Donald Trump. Is this the argument, but hey, you own the company he might have to take the hit? That's their their big tie-in the president wanted to ban all Muslims. Therefore, he's a racist. First of all, it's Muslim and racist. I'll leave that somebody else to figure out, but I even oppose the idea of banning all Muslims. But if you tell me you're going to ban people from entering from countries that support terrorism. I'm totally fine. Oh, they happen to be Muslim majority countries. Why is that? That's what the curious person says me, I'm curious person. Tony cats. Tony cats today. Eight three three got Tony eight three three four six eight eight six six nine. On charlottesville. He booted it. I did it poorly. Then I thought the next day he did better than than he kept going. But I think that for the for the political left. This is just a good good talking point good punching point. And you take a look at what happened in Powell at the synagogue shooting. And of course, it's all it's it's the white terrorism. That's going on. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm getting some more of that coming up. We'll see whether or not that's the case. Because if that's what we're going to call it. We got a lot of things we now have to discuss. But Chris Cuomo right here having this conversation with Steve Cortez is on CNN. Of course. And I don't know who the guy is forgive me. I want you to your how he starts this conversation with this clip as put out by Ryan Veja for I've watched them in the streets protesting in different situations. Okay. There are certainly aspects of them that are true to cause. That is a good 'cause they want social Justice. They want whatever they want in that context you tiny. This happens. You tell me when that has ever happened with Neo Nazis with they've ever been doing good cause. And does not have good aims antiga wants power wants political power taken a through force. That's what anti all about. I mean, they are the. Brian not here to a spouse. Antifa or any group on the political sense? Like. Antiques is a violent organization of violence, people of communists. They're not antifascists. They are fascist. Well, Tony fascism's on the political, right and communism's on the political left. Okay. Whatever you say, whatever it is. You think you learned in your little college courts? My dear people. The difference between communism and fascism is the color of the uniform that is it is that you take different ideologies to extremes to get there. It is still total control of government. It is still the murdering of of your enemies by declaring them enemies. It is still the suppression of free speech. It's still discretion of free thought it is still violence for the sake of violence to get to your aims. Well, really not violence violence violence for your aims. They believe that the ends justify the means. So now, tell me the difference. The fit of the pants. The style of the boot. I'm sorry. We're all grownups here. And we're gonna talk like grown-ups here. There's no difference. There are also no good people in antifa. There are no good. Aims of antifa. This is moral equivocation by Chris Cuomo. He is wrong. We're not going to agree to disagree. I actually tweeted him. That that he's that..

"Remember the clip we played from feedback Friday yesterday. I'm sorry for I did it again for fake news or not really wanted to be fried the audience, probably like, can it be Friday reading to break the clip we played from fake news or not. And is it Steve Cortez? I think is the guy's name eighty some Trump political operative, and he's trying to actually engage guy. I wanted to call them Kurtis blow the wrapper from your kids. But it's Charles blow is his name. So he's trying to engage Charles blow. See CNN Anderson Cooper sitting back like this. ABC's pontificating the next time. He's gonna do jello shots on New Year's Eve or something. I don't know. And is that what he did on the New Year's Eve broadcast this year? Didn't you some jello? No that wasn't him. He was the guy that talked about his mom having sex with Marlon Brando. We also did shot two shots to. Okay. So maybe sitting back thinking, I wonder when other Hollywood stars my mom slept with. Meanwhile, Charles blows over here calling dropping racist on the Steve this poor Steve Cortez fellow over and over and over again and Cortez's you're asking for evidence, and and blow continues to blow this continues to blow his top, right? Did he ever offered any Evans? No. He actually said the evidence is south a lack of evidence is doesn't matter. Just no you. Yes. And he says just like, hey, just own it just I don't care if you're a racist. You just I just bothers me you want on your racism. All right. Yes. Want the answer to this question? Yes, go go. There isn't have to be any evidence. His name. So she answered around question. Yeah. That doesn't that doesn't have to be any evidence. Throughout the course of my career and going back to you know, when I did college Republican activism as a kit. Since the since the since the advent of political correctness in the early nineteen ninety s the goal of the of the American leftist has been to convince the American people lorry that people like you and me are racist misogynistic Zena, phobic homophobes. And if they can therefore dehumanize us and label us in such a way, they will no longer be required to engage us in the arena of ideas, where they have no shot to win not because we're smarter than them..

"John Lott who was mentioned by Steve Cortez on CNN as the author of a study that conflicted with the Cato Institute report on how much crime is committed by illegal aliens compared to American citizens and went Cortez said there were conflicting study. Know there is it others not. Chris Cuomo in Navarre sick stuff. Sick six stuff. And here to prove that there is at least one conflicting report is the president of crime prevention research center, and you can check out crime research dot org. The one and only John are lot. Hello, john. Great to talk to you, Steve. Well, great to talk to you. I'm glad they brought your name into my head by their Steve Cortez. Did it? You know with the well-intended, and then the arrogance of Cuomo, you know, to to just say, no, there's no there's no study that conflicts. There's no opposing opinion might as well be global warming for their care. The Cato Institute report is the gospel know, what you did is you saw dad you use the Arizona prison population on behalf of the Zona county prosecutors association, so talk about first of all you've seen the Cato report in your opinion. What it does? And then talk about what your study did and shows and compare it and tell us the differences, right? Well, let me just. Multiple studies out there Kato, they basically fall into two types of reports. One type report they rely on census data and Kato is use this type of data before in the past. Where? The department will go and survey individuals, they're picking them whether they're from the United States or not and then also asking them, what type of criminal history. They have the problem with that is one criminals, generally people who have been imprisoned might be reluctant some of them will be reluctant to go and correctly answer the question, but if you're somebody who's in the United States legally, and you've been through the prison system already even the Obama administration technically said that they would go after those individuals to deport them. If it's a violent type of crimes, it's a serious crime. So those individuals have even more reason to be reluctant to accurately answer that type of information. It's just that serious to go and rely on on. You know, whether the illegals themselves are gonna properly be providing you that type of information in the survey if they if he were to find that data similar crime rate to native Americans. Native born Americans than you could simply be to the fact that they're relatively more reticent to provide that information, the other type of data that us, and there's actually another Kato's study that uses this. Looks at whether somebody. Is either a legal or an illegal alien and mixes the two groups together and compares those to the native born population. And the problem with that. I think is that while the data that I have shows that illegal aliens have a much higher crime rate than native born Americans, those legal aliens who go through the rules and follow everything they're supposed to do to apply to become US citizens. They actually tend to be relatively law-abiding compared to US citizens. And so the problem is is that when you mix those two different groups together, it makes it look like illegal aliens. If that's what you're trying to use it to infer more law-abiding than they actually are. Right. So in other words that second one you refer to is kind of watered down because it's not just illegal immigrants or. Aliens it's illegal immigrants and legal immigrants in as you said legal immigrants almost by definition. You would think and at proves are more likely to follow the law. So you're you're putting them in the mix and lowering the the rate by by by watering it down so to speak, right? Have one group. That's high one group that slow, and you're gonna get something that's gonna be someplace in the middle by mixing the two groups together. All right. So your report that you did for the Arizona prison. The county prosecutors association. How does it differ? And and is it a apparently, I mean, it would seem by definition that it's a smaller. A sample. But go ahead. Well, the problem is most places don't report the data the way you'd like it. They don't break down the differences between the legal or illegal aliens, they mix them together or they rely on the survey data, and and I can understand why a lot of them want to do that because it's a sensitive topic. And so, you know, they just they have reasons to hide the state of and nobody wants to be out front with this. But Aaron Zona I had all the people who entered the Zona prison system all prisoners from January nineteen eighty five through June nineteen June two thousand seventeen twenty seven and a half years. And and I have. You find for example, is that while illegal aliens make about four point eight percent of the air Zona population. At least two according to the census. And to Pew Research. They make up about over they make up twelve percent of the prison population. And so they're way over represented in terms of their share of the prison population. Relative to. They just had their share the same share of the population outside of prison that they haven't signed prison. They only have about four point eight percent of the. Yeah. Right. Right. Well, that's certainly flies in the face of now. Interesting. What about so? So what about Americans who live here citizens? What what percentage of the prison population in Arizona over those twenty seven and a half years. Did they make up compared to what they like what what what is the percentage of the population? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's almost exactly the same as their share of the overall population. So what do you? Yeah. So I mean, if you if legal illegal aliens make about four point eight percent of the population legal aliens makeup about another two percent. And so you have about seven percent of the population in Arizona's either legal or illegal the other ninety three percent are native born Americans. And you have almost I think it's like ninety two percent of the prison population in Arizona is our native born Americans got it. And I could almost see the networks just taking your report. Then saying you see you see ninety two percent of the prison. Population are native born and only only seven percent or are legal and illegal aliens and misrepresenting it without putting it in context. It's it's crazy. I don't want to let you go. Before I get from you. And I to hopefully, have you back another time that I'm lucky enough to be sitting here behind this microphone, but where are we on gun control so-called gun control right now. And and there's a lot of state legislatures the Virginia which were booming into right now. Just give us a synopsis of what's going on. You have a lot that's going on nationwide. I mean in congress. You've had bills. Just this last week. You had the Gabby giffords universal background check Bill that was put forward. You know, the irony is this Bill, which would require background checks on all private transfers have guns. It's being named after Gabby giffords, but it wouldn't have stopped the attack on her the person who who did the attack didn't obtain a gun through private transfer. He passed the background check. And. You know, wouldn't have stopped any the other mass public shootings the century. But yet it's something that gets put out there to motivate passing a Bill. There's nothing to do with what's being motivated to pass. It Virginia is considering a similar Bill in Washington DC where they already have background checks on private transfers it add one hundred twenty five dollars under the cost of transferring gun. That's how much of a background check costs on doing a transfer. That may not stop you. Or I from the older by a gun. But unfortunately. My research shows that the very people who need guns the most for protection poor minorities who live in high crime urban areas one hundred twenty five dollars can make a difference between whether or not they're able to obtain a gun legally to protect themselves and their families. No helmet. All these red flag laws. It's something that I'm sure it's.
No signs of a deal to end partial government shutdown
"Barrier, something they can see through. They haven't asked for a concrete barrier to my knowledge, I was on that homeland security committee. I knew what they were talking about they needed detention beds. They needed roads access roads along the border. They needed all sorts of interior enforcement support, which we try to provide for them secure fence act. They weren't talking about a two thousand mile concrete barrier. It's just not true, folks. We're going to have to leave it there. Certainly conversations going to continue at least as long as the shutdown. Does Steve Cortez. Hartselle is congressman thanks very much. Happy holidays to you and your families at your old migrant relevant to this conversation migrant boy died in US custody on the southern border. Just ahead. The. Very latest on what happened the second child to die. Just in the last few days.
Discussing allegations of Trump hiring undocumented workers
"The law. They will be terminated immediately out front now Steve Cortez member of the president's twenty twenty reelected visory council and Keith boykin, former Clinton White House aide, Keith your reaction. This is typical Trump inconsistency. We see this in in the pattern in the past. We know that he was having his Trump's search that were made in bang. With us. We know the Trump ties were made in China. Trump suits were made in Mexico where the Trump was hiring workers seasonal workers who are foreigners for mar-a-lago in Florida. We also that Trump's wineries were hiring seasonal workers who are foreigners in Virginia. Yeah. So Trump does a lot of talk about immigration, and how horrible it is to have foreigners coming in and taking our jobs, but he's one of the chief culprits who's guilty of that practice, but the predator talked about their keep is legal immigration in those cases at mar Lago and at the winery say a key distinction. This is illegal. Let's be clear, and let's also be clear the New York Times said in its story. There's no indication at all that the president knew about this or that management of Trump or just make one point on that. Okay. Because I happen to know people who work in these industries and have to hire people, and it is common practice for people to submit false paperwork and everybody knows they do it because you can't get enough workers. And they do it. They have fake numbers. They do it. Everybody knows that the IRS even knows they do it. The times actually says they ran. Ms Morales, quote, unquote, security, number social security, number who several public databases non got a match, which is indication. It's invalid number on the back of the green card doesn't correspond to the format used any basic smell test. It would appear this is this is quite common. Okay. So when they say, oh, we have strict tiring practice. I don't know. All I caught. I don't doubt that some low level manager shows do not look with a skeptical. I we're talking look kind of demeanor. She made. I mean, she wouldn't she wouldn't have been hired by the president. All right. She wouldn't have been talking about him. I'm just saying the console you're saying it would manager that new right? And here's the thing. What this case proves. I'll be the first woman. It's Miley embarrassing for the president. Of course, someone who rails against illegal immigration turns out he has one in proximity to him working not just resort. Nations. Others. Well, no one that we know over to in this literally cleaning his personal. So clearly Tommy the, but here's the thing. You know, what approves the fact that she was able to work there in the fact that she used counterfeit illegally used conifer documents to get that job. It shows us how pernicious and pervasive. This problem is of illegal immigration is a hypocrite as the Trump does not like these things seriously. That's not fair. He did not hire company really was serious about about not hiring illegal immigrants as he called could've rented basic due diligence test to to through e-verify approve. This wasn't true. Trump bragged on the campaign trail that he did either at nobody which nobody knew nobody didn't nobody's fail. Clearly, he was talking specifically. This. He was talking specifically about the new Trump hotel, which was his newest project, and he was he said, he said, no. And he said emphatically no-one illegal is hired. We did e-verify throughout. So that was important. This one was hired before he got into policy. Let me ask you a question. Stephen. And you tell me whether you think it's relevant. The New York Times reports she doesn't speak English, which would not necessarily mean citizen or not. But she's made the bench, which does not speak English. Trump asked her her name where she was from with our basic English. And she said, I'm from Guatemala, right? And his response was quantum Amal's work, incredibly hard. And here's the button, see was generous. Right. Tipped her. No one saying that. But but but I mean, look he's got a lot going on. But it would appear a little bit hard for him to have not really at that point. Why should he say, hey is everything I I'm running this platform? Can we make sure everything's if she were sent from Guatemala, and then he would say are you a legal? You would attack him for being biased against the Spanish vies against warn people suggest that he would say that to her. He would make that game. Cow was not doing like because everybody else to do. The Trump wants the police officers in ficials in every city in America to be asking immigrants in this country. People who look different news, that example to cooperate with federal law. Illegal aliens. And the hypocrisy of you talking about the Trump hotel e-verify thing when Trump built his own very own Trump Tower, nineteen eighty he hired polish undocumented workers to build that tower. His stiff them he didn't pay them, nor that it's true. It's documented and Trump. This is a history goes way back. It's not to something. He started doing recently. He's been doing this for decades. And he doesn't really care about immigration, except as a wedge to use against his opponent vilify people who we think can be easily demonized. That's totally untrue. Here's here's his suggestions. Rather New York Times article today, there are eight million illegal works in the United States. I actually think there's quite a bit more than that. But let's just accept the times. There's eight million illegal workers think of how much higher wages would be American citizens, particularly working class people do a lot of these menial jobs that we're talking about if we didn't have eight million illegal workers competing with them in the labor market. Donald Trump identified the unfairness of that. He realized that both parties Republican democrat were complicit in tolerating if not encouraging illegal immigration. So you're. Saying the president's willing to hire people to do jobs for more than Americans and stiff no out of which. Is he saying he identified this problem ran on it in two thousand sixteen and he thought. He's the exploiter of the reason why he was hiring hiring premises though, that he interviewed her new illegal been hired her anyway, but we do know what even I know knowing people in in in in the broader, whatever restaurant business, or this is how it's done under the table, fate numbers everything. Everybody knows speed. The service industry is not to be aware of that that that's how he's business offering those this. Of course, she's where those businesses are largely operated that way. But he also is aware that it needs to change that it's incredibly unfair. It's not example sample at home, why should any Benny ditch at once? Got all be once. He let's she was legal. He did not know she's a legal guarantee. She's gone now. I will quite now. That's the whole thing. Right. She's getting kicked out. But yeah. By the way, I mean, she should she should she's not illegal worker. She used counterfeit documents to ten jobs. The president is the victim in this. And one thing she's a very courageous person to come forward and speak about this issue courageous I'm bringing into hiking gruesome, Donald Trump is knowing this you will comparably lose her job, and maybe deployed courageousness. Into america. About hiring people who know that you you've been railing against in your campaign. That's not curry decided we hit pause for now. Thank you. Both good to see you both in person and next CNN uncovering you evidence of questionable ballots in North Carolina tonight allegedly to help the Republican candidate that of the North Carolina. Republican party is out front next to respond plus acting EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler today rolling back. Rules on the coal industry is the same. Andrew Wheeler who used to lobby for the coal industry that story.

"Independent in thoughts and punk rock in life. It's the Chad Benson show. The border is crazy stops happening. One thing Trump has been straightforward with is this is the hill that he's going to lie down on and immigration is particularly south of the border is a place where he said he's had enough. Joining us now CNN political commentator part of Trump's twenty twenty reelect committee, Steve Cortez. See let me let me ask you. I look at this. And you know, the Democrats are surprised I think a lot of people are surprised to Trump is really sad. Look, we're going to stop this. We're gonna do everything we can. And after all that he's done over the last couple of years. I still am shocked that people are surprised that he keeps his word what he says this isn't going to have right? Right. No. I agree. I'm shocked that their shock, right? One reason for that is we're so unaccustomed to politicians actually doing what they promised particularly promises. Campaigners right in this president has been opposite of that. He is home through step by step on his promises as a candidate. Now that the president. And by the way, the only reason he hasn't fully followed through on his promise to build the wall is because unfortunately, he can't do it alone. And he needs help from Capitol Hill, and he obviously didn't get it. So far, I don't think he's going to get it going forward. Given the Nancy Pelosi will likely be the next speaker. But regardless he's doing what he can as president to make our country safe. He this was a foundational issue of two thousand sixteen of the entire movement. His candidacy was that. We can no longer tolerate what we for decades in this country, which is basically an open border and incredibly at best. It's a porous border at worst open border a million or so illegal immigrant workers eight-year, flooding, the US labor market. It doesn't make sense for economic security our national security and on top of that look, I'm the son of an immigrant from Latin America. As an Hispanic immigrant, son? It's also brutally unfair to legal immigrants like my dad and people who came here the right way and went through the hard process lengthy process could become an American citizen, the right way, totally disrespectful to them to say that others can cheat. The system and hop line. You know, the thing is here is is Zina phobia racist, it's because they're Brown people. That's why the reality is that look I want to fix the entire system. Our visa system is a joke. The ports are amass. And they're real sieve, including drugs and everything else. And it's not just this. This is the side. We we see though. And this is the side where politics is evolved. Because there's not really a lot of politics somebody coming from Russian overstaying their visa, they don't have political power somebody coming in from China or southeast Asia. Maybe it gets through the ports the reality. Is there not a powerful political movement where people south of the border because of our makeup in this country. They are a political movement. I don't think people understand that right? And listen to and it's such a hard for the left to try to say that if you care about about sensible immigration restrictions in this country. And if you had you care about securing our border that somehow racist you first of all Americans not race. So I just reject that out of hand. Right. America's a multi. Racial, multi, ethnic, democracy and American citizenship has never been about blood purity it's about for newcomers. It's about people who come here legally who believe in our values are going to add to our system's not about their caller at all on top of that. I'd also point out. I think there's an important fact that the border patrol CPAP is the most Hispanic agency of the federal government is actually majority Hispanic. So the idea that those brave officers down there, I think of acted really professionally so far bravely protecting our country I under some really bad circumstances. And it'd be terrible laws that put restrictions on them. The majority of those folks doing that air Spanich American citizens. So this is not a not a race issue. There's not a color issue. It's a law and order issue. And we want to protect all Americans, whatever their color is from illegality at the border and from again to the economic and national security consequences of pollinating, massive illeg-. Immigration, which is something we've done way too long in this country. Absolutely Steve Cortez. Joining us CNN political commentator on the reelect committee for Trump twenty twenty. So I look at this thing, and I say to myself self I can have empathy I can have understanding, but as I try to tell people I do the same thing. These people will do just like anybody would do the reality is if want to get mad at people we need to get mad at our lawmakers because both of them turn a blind eye all the time because the system that's broke that affects us affects them in a positive way because it's a political place, and it's a place where they can raise money. And that's the thing that I think people need to put your anger in the right place because we've got as I call them on our our congress is nothing but middle management that does very little right? You make a great point. And by the way, you'll the tolerance if not encouragement for legal immigration in this country until Trump you really found bipartisan support, let's just be honest. This was not just a democratic issue on the Republican side, the chamber of commerce types, love national chamber comes I'm not talking about the local ones, which are generally fabulous. But I mean, the Washington DC big business lobby love illegal immigration why? Because it's cheap labor and big business loves that. And then on the democratic side, they love it. Because what are they see they see the potential for new folks that if we can amnesty these people we're gonna have a massive new voting block. It's going to be good for us and on top of that they think I don't agree with this. But they think that US Hispanic citizens are all soften immigration. So they think it's a winning political issue for them. They're so so both sides Republicans and Democrats for a long time in this country. Saw a winning political strategy in tolerating said if not encouraging illegal immigration, but guess you pay the price working class Americans, particularly the labor market. Trump came along. And saw this said, this is crazy. Our laws are crazy, and our tolerance for those laws being broken is not we're going to start to fix this. We're going to have a wall, we're going to clamp down on illegal immigration and one of the if not the foundational region, he wanted certainly one of them why he won in in two thousand sixteen but I think to look that's the past from here forward. What can we do your? I think you're exactly right. I don't begrudge those young men, and let's face. It. The caravan is overwhelmingly. Yeah, absolutely media wants us to believe a false narrative that it's a bunch of moms and babies, that's just not the preponderance. I mean, and this is factually, correct. The preponderance of the caravanners young man, I don't begrudge them wanting to come to the United States because I think I would too particularly by live someplace like Honduras. However, I do begrudge them waving a foreign flag and trying to literally breaking enter into our country and do it on their own terms. That's not okay can't be tolerated. And but you're Jerry, right. Really? Shame on us for having the kinds of laws that we do. For instance, are silent laws well-intended, right? We do want to protect people who are literally fleeing persecution because of their political beliefs their gender the race, those kinds of people who are who are in danger in the world have always found asylum properly solid America, we have a great hard for them. If you're a Christian, for instance, running from ISIS for your life. That's not what's going on. With this caravan economic migrants who won ecconomic improvement, and and I can say that factually because we know that from those three countries that are Salvador Guatemala Honduras. Only ten percent of those who apply for asylum are ever granted it so overwhelmingly these are not legitimate asylum seekers they're trying to gain our system, and we know that again by the numbers because the numbers have gone up seventeen fold asylum seekers over the last decade. And by the way, things are bad hundreds. But they're actually getting better over time. Crime rates are actually going down there still credibly. I I'm not, you know. Dismissing the reality on the ground. But you know, what else would be before we take we to say anyone who comes from a tough place in the world with economic hardship or crime can automatically come to the United States and get asylum. That is to American citizens who live in places, I live in Chicago and the west side of the city a lot of young men most of the minorities they have a top they live in dangerous climate in places, go to bad schools. Don't have economic opportunity are we gonna take care of Honduran young men before we take care of Chicago's young men. I think that's lunacy. And I think President Trump knows that. Yeah. It is absolutely to see. And and it's it's it's very interesting. When I look at this as we talked to Steve Cortez CNN political commentator about what's going down at the border. But but what's happening here? What you listen Elijah Cummings said the other day, and this sums up everything that we when I think about middle management and the way that they approach things. No, no. I think we have a system that has worked for a long time. This president has come in once it's saying, that's that's up to him. But now, the congress has got to stand up, and hopefully, they will do you think what he's doing? I don't know. We'll see. No, the system's not broke. It's been working for a long time. How would I note the system works because you don't nobody on either side puts the system to the test and actually enforces the laws. So how do I know if the system works if you guys don't actually use the system itself? Right. Well, and we we know the system is not working. I mean, that's ludicrous. For instance, the to me the worst part of the whole immigration situation. Presently of are considering a lottery system, right? The fact that we literally allow people by chance to have entry into the United States some of whom by the way, look most of them. Well intentioned, obviously, but some of whom have become terrorists in the United States. And that's just a fact that's not me making that up. That is a fact the one who drove the van down at multiple down in battery park in New York City, he got here because of the visa lottery system, and it's it's insanity. It's it's almost laughable. If people weren't actually hurt by. It's almost laughable to think of the idea that we would allow people to come to the United States because they want a game of chance because their hat was their name of quality of hat effectively. So the idea that it's working is absurd. I think even most people on the lap, obviously, not congressman comments. But I think even most people wanna laugh will will concede that the that our immigration. At present is in need of reform. And by the way, look this doesn't make us anti immigrant. The United States loves immigrants. We have almost fifty million non-citizens living in this country. Most of them legally green card holders, married to citizens that sort of thing, you know, ten to twenty million, depending what started you believe illegally with clear, this is a country that loves immigration, and that has done an incredibly much better than any country in the history of the world, quite frankly. So we love immigration, but it's not native missed or racist to say that we can do it far better. And that we will not tolerate illegal immigration. Absolutely. It's going to be very interesting moving forward. Love having you on Steve Cortez CNN political commentator also happen Alpa Trump out in twenty twenty s on the election committee the committee. Appreciate you coming on day. Look we're talking again, man you back. Thank you. Thanks at Chadbensonshow. Twitter C H A N S O N. He talked about this all day. The reality is is like a perfect example of well the systems, really. Broke. We should keep it the way it is. Well, why doesn't work at least as far as we know. It doesn't work because people aren't stopping they're still coming here. They're getting through nobody's enforcing the laws that sounds like a broken system. But it's broken to people who look at it. And like, well, this is right. This is wrong. If you're part of the problem, and you make money on that problem. You make yourself relevant on the problem. Then you don't see the problem because you don't want to fix something. As far as you're concerned isn't broken at Chadbensonshow Twitter, C H A B E N S O N. It's the Chad Benson show. This sound perspective is brought to you by glint reintroducing gold as money the US mortgage market that triggered the global financial crisis remains severely exposed.

"Independent in thoughts and punk rock in life. It's the Chad Benson show. The border is crazy. Stuff's happening. One thing Trump has been straightforward with is this is the hill that he's going to lie down on an immigration is particularly south of the border is the place where he said he's had enough. Joining us now CNN political commentator part of Trump's twenty twenty reelect committee, Steve Cortez. Steve let me let me ask you. I look at this. And you know, the Democrats were surprised I think a lot of people are surprised that Trump is really sad. Look, we're going to stop this. We're gonna do everything we can. And after all that he's done over the last couple of years. I still am shocked that people are surprised that he keeps his word what he says. This isn't going to happen. Right. Right. No. I agree. I'm shocked at their shock. Right. But I guess one reason for that is we're so unaccustomed to politicians actually doing what they promised. Particular they promises campaigners right in this president has been the opposite of that. He is followed through step by step on his promises as a candidate. Now that he is the president. And by the way, the only reason he hasn't fully followed through on his promise to build the wall is because unfortunately, he can't do it alone. And he needs help from Capitol Hill, and obviously didn't get it. So far. I don't think he's going to get it going forward given that Nancy Pelosi will likely be the next speaker. But regardless he's doing what he can as president to make our country safe. This was a foundational issue of twenty sixteen of the entire movement of his candidacy was that. We can no longer tolerate what we've tolerated for decades in this country, which is basically an open border and incredibly at best. It's a porous border at worst open border a million or so illegal immigrant workers eight-year, flooding, the US labor market. It doesn't make sense for economic security our national security and on top of that, look, I'm the son of immigrants from Latin America as an Hispanic immigrant, son. It's also brutally unfair. To legal immigrants like my dad did people who came here the right way and went through the hard process lengthy process to become an American citizen, the right way, totally disrespectful to them to say, the others can cheat. The system and hop line. You know, the thing is here is is, you know, Xena phobia racist, it's because they're Brown people. That's why the reality is look, I I want to fix the entire system. Our visa system is a joke. The ports or a mass, and they're real sieve, including drugs and everything else. And it's not just this. This is the side. We we see though. And this is the side where politics is evolved. Because there's not really a lot of politics somebody coming from Russian overstaying their visa, they don't have political power somebody coming in from China or southeast Asia. Maybe it gets to the ports the reality. Is there not a powerful political movement where people south of the border because of our makeup in this country. They are a political movement. I don't think people understand that. Right. And listen, it's such a Canard for the left to try to say that if you care about about sensible immigration, restrictions in this country, and if you care about securing our border that somehow racist you first of all Americans, not Ray. So I just reject that out of hand. Right. America's a multi-racial multi-ethnic, democracy and American citizenship has never been about blood purity it's about for for newcomers. It's about people who come here legally who believe in our values and are going to add to our system's not about their caller at all on top of that. I'd also point out. I think there's an important fact that the border patrol CB is the most Hispanic agency of the federal government is actually majority has fabric. So the idea that those brave officers down there who I think of acting really professionally so far bravely protecting our country. I under some really bad circumstances that terrible laws that put restrictions on them. The majority of those folks doing that they're a Spanish American citizens. So this is not this is not a race issue. This is not a color issue. It's a law and order issue. And and we want to protect all Americans, whatever their color is from illegality at the border, and from again to the economic and national security consequences of tolerating massive illegal immigration, which is something we've done way too long in this country. Absolutely Steve Cortez. Joining us CNN political commentator on the reelect committee for Trump twenty twenty. So I look at this thing, and I say to myself self I can have empathy I can have understanding, but as I tried to tell people I do the same thing. These people will do just like anybody would do the reality is if you want to get mad at people we need to get mad at our lawmakers because both of them turn a blind eye all the time because the system that's broke that affects us affects them in a positive way because it's a political place, and it's a place where they can raise money. And that's the thing that I think people need to put your anger in the right place because we've got as I call them on our our congress is is nothing but middle management that does very little right? I think you make a great point. And by the way, you'll be tolerance. If not encouragement for illegal immigration in this country, until Trump you really found bipartisan support, let's just be honest. This was not just a democratic issue on the Republican side, the chamber of commerce types, love national chamber comes I'm not talking about your local watts which are generally fabulous. Saw a winning political strategy in tolerating the had if not occurred illegal immigration, but guess who pay the price working class Americans, particularly the labor market. Trump came along. And saw this said, this is crazy. Our laws are crazy, and our tolerance for those laws being broken is not we're going to start to fix this. We're we're going to have a wall we're going to clamp down on illegal immigration. And and it's one of these not the foundational region. He wanted certainly one of them why he won in in two thousand sixteen but I think to look that's the past from here forward. What you're I think, you're exactly right. I don't begrudge those young men, and let's face it. That the caravan is overwhelmingly. However, I do begrudge them waving a foreign flag and trying to literally break and enter into our country and do it on their own terms. That's not okay can't be tolerated. And Jimmy, right. Really? Shame on us for having the kinds of laws that we do. For instance, are silent laws well-intended, right? We we do want to protect people who are literally fleeing persecution because of their political beliefs their gender the race, those kinds of people who are who are in danger in the world have always found asylum properly solid America, we have a great heart for them. If you're a Christian, for instance, running from ISIS for your life. That's not what's going on. With this caravan. These are economic migrants who want economic improvement, and and I can say that factually because we know that from those three countries that are Salvador Guatemala Honduras. Only ten percent of those who apply for asylum are ever granted. It's so overwhelmingly these are not legitimate asylum seekers they're trying to game our system, and we know that again by the numbers because the numbers have gone up seventeen fold asylum seekers over the last decade, and by the way, things are bad in Honduras, but they're actually getting better over time. Crime rates are actually going down. It's still credibly. I I'm not, you know. Dismissing the reality on the ground. But you know, what else would be before we take a would say anyone who comes from a tough place in the world with economic hardship. Or crime can automobile come to the United States and get asylum. How unfair that is to American citizens who live in tough places. I live in Chicago. And the west side of the city a lot of young men most of the minorities, they have a tough they live in dangerous climate in places, go to bad schools. Don't have economic opportunity. Are we going to take care of Honduran young men before we take Chicago's young men? I think that's lunacy. And I think President Trump knows that. Yeah. It is absolutely to see. And and it's it's very interesting. When I look at this as we talked to Steve Cortez CNN political commentator about what's going down to the border, but but what's happening here. What you listen to what Elijah Cummings said the other day, and this sums up everything that we when I think about middle management and the way that they approach things. No, no. I think that we have a system that has worked.

"They feel comfortable applying for asylum because we fought as Americans all around the world. Say after World War Two, if someone is fleeing persecution or violence, every country in the world should give them a chance to make their case. We lead the world in that, and they are now taking us up on that. If they don't belong here, then they'll be turned away. But the idea that you're going to participate in this smear campaign against these sick hungry, scared people is not fair. It's not right. And I'm and I'm sad to hear you doing. All right, we, we gotta leave their Steve common. If you want. For you to say that they're all sick and tired and hungry, the pictures, your economic migrants. I look at I, I don't begrudge them wanting to be Americans. All right. We're a nation. You don't believe in any of them are living. Neighborhoods with gang violence and and it's not fresh xenophobic or racist to have standards and filters for how we determine who will best add to the problem. Middle easterners though that's not it's not racist xenophobic to just say middle easterners or in this thing in this column, which therefore implies terrorists right now. That's not once again. If someone is from a country that has terrorism problem, he's Norway Additional additional terrorists. terrorists. Killed a bunch of kids on an island set off a bomb. If they're a bunch of Norwegian was, you know, there was one lone wolf. There's not a systemic problem actually, right being extremism is actually probably growing in a lot of countries. Okay. But Norway doesn't have a systemic problem. They had one absolutely evil, crazy person that the president actually wanted more people from countries like Norway here, which is what he said. He just doesn't want people of color from countries in Africa, which as you know Anderson that's a lie. He never said anything about caller and this you Keeney going down this past said it. It's not about on shithole countries, people in Nigeria, they, they don't want to go back to live in their huts people from Haiti and more people from Norway. I, the only different he'd never acknowledged. He said that I never dollar, but we want ported by numerous people with the skills and hustle to to be great Americans who accept our values coming up America's not a race. Okay. So. People are is not doors and stuff skills. They don't have the hustle because it seems like it takes a lot of hustle to eight thousand eight may very well. No, they may be well, and that's why they should apply as legal immigrants to America. Look, legal Hispanic. American citizens are a treasure to this country, sixteen million of them strong and by the way, partly to protect them unless they're not allow. Judges inva- can't really be fair. Right. And okay. Well, you keep your keep trying to hop around. No, I'm just telling you. The president has raised questions about the loyalty of a judge of Mexican descent. So I'm just pointing out things you're, you're. And I think that was a mistake during the campaign idea. I think that was a mistake. It's a mistake though, is protecting our borders for all Americans of whatever color they happen to be America. First, we all bleed red, white and blue, and and we salute one flag and it's not one hundred like the greatest hits that has nothing to do with any facts. Well, we'll happening happening down there and said, and, but by the way we all bleed red like they believe read, we believe read. That's actually technically we all bleed, Steve Cortez. Thank you. "Today that businesses are fleeing areas of california in cities and small towns because the homeless problem in california has become so extraordinary that the number of homeless people on skid rows and it's no wonder like often some remote areas downtown roll the panhandling is i mean it's like a bad movie it's like blade runner that the democrats are creating in california the homelessness is so bad that businesses are fleeing their shutting down because all the homeless people and all that urine in the doorways and up panhandle and the violence and the thefts from cars and the breakins at the stores at night and and on and on but california is a sanctuary city for nuts like it's always been the because the world turns this way you know from from east to west of following the sun and all that stuff that the nuts and bolts kind of roll out to the west coast the loose nuts and it's just more true than ever but here's steve cortez of president trump's hispanic advisory council why do they won amnesty let's just be honest about it they want their votes they think the more amnesty they grant the more votes they will get their having a hard time in america they've been systemic decline particularly in the state houses i'll american elections and they think one way to reverse that is millions of new workers millions of new who will flood the workforce and as you said create an unnaturally low wage to compete with american workers many of them hispanic they don't care about that but they will also get millions of new votes of so it is it crass political calculus which they engaged in in which their pursuing that let's be honest about it and let's be honest about it that's what that's the democrat plan is not a proamerican plan is not a pro you plan dog it's not up romiti plan it's a pro them a plan and i've been saying this for years all and and others have as well uh it's just they don't care about the country they care about themselves they care about their party they care about the next election cycle and the country be damned they don't give us squat about us they could care less and in fact they hold us in contempt these are.
