Cam Gets Signed

"Well there was big news coming last night. Courtesy of our Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen former MVP cam. Newton is a free agent. No more instead Newton is heading to new. England to join forces with bill, Belichick and follow in the footsteps of another MVP Tom Brady. And Cam Newton's cryptic fashion. He had this to say the instagram. I'm excited because I know what right now all praise to God dropping contact tomorrow. I hope you're ready Hashtag. Let's go pat. And so now we know, and we'll start with Adam Schefter, and our health hall of Famer. Steve Young One one. Just tell us how we got here. How did this deal get done? Listen I think it took Cam Newton a little bit of time to recognize that there was not a thirty plus million dollar a year job on the market when you released two weeks into the free agent signing period not only that there's not an obvious starting job that's out there, and so the longer this went on, and the less he heard from teams, and there really was nobody that he heard from the more he recognized that he had to find the right spot. And if you're going to find the right spot, there's nothing wrong with taking new. England Riga tour with Bill Belichick and Josh mcdaniels, and the new quarterbacks coach Jed fish in an offense. That obviously is going. Going to be trying to replace Tom Brady where you're competing with the guy like Jarret, Stidham hasn't proven that he can play yet in the NFL and so cam. Newton goes to New England on a one year deal where he gets to reestablishes value show that he's healthy, and over the shoulder and foot injuries that he has been dealing with the last two years, and this is the the place that he now tries to relaunch his NFL career at the age of thirty one, which should be most quarterbacks, the prime of their career, no question and Adam. How likely is it that this is in effect? A one year auditioned for Cam to be with the Patriots beyond this season. Wendy what I would say is this if Cam Newton plays well, the Patriots obviously would be interested in resigning him, and if not, they have the ability to move on from him. It depends on how the year goes. It's difficult to forecast that right now. All we know is that the Patriots signed a former. Most Valuable Player who won that award in two thousand fifteen, who has tremendous ability who goes into this offense, and now we'll have to learn it, which is not going to be an easy task in a shortened off season for put as the ability to be dominant quarterback. If he can pick up that system if he plays that way, you would think that no one would not let him out. Out, the door, but again there's a whole year. They WANNA see Newton. They WANNA see them. They want to see a year goes to. It's truly to say that just yet well. Yeah, I mean a lot can happen in a year. We've all we've all seen that in Steve. How do you like the fit between cam? Newton and what he brings on the field and the New England patriots. When healthy. Rusted Cam Newton mean it's like. Manna from heaven right I mean in many ways I, think Josh, mcdaniel and Bill Belichick sitting around a lot of times. Saying. Could you imagine what we could do with this guy or that? Guys? They play these players. Run the League, and they see them in places where I'm sure they say because they're supreme of conference. Not Hubris just supreme confidence that if we could get a hold of him what we could do with him, and we can really expend on what you're seeing around the league. What we can do is special, and so I'm sure they're saying this about. If Cam comes in his foot is okay. Because we know the arm is all right, we should. We saw that early last year before. So. We know that he's healthy. If his what is good and he can move, you've got. Hungry. Sophisticated and the type caliber Blair in New England, where you have bill and Josh saying you can't imagine what we're GonNa, do with this kid and so I think that's I. think that's the conversation. That's happening right now. New England, Steve. Look it's anybody's guess at this point, but you. You have an opinion very qualified one. What do you believe the likelihood? Is that Cam Newton? Is the Patriots Starting Quarterback Week One? Again if healthy, if he can move around, I can't imagine them with his talent level, and what they think they can do them again. It becomes a you know it's a proof point for what they're out to show their out to show that we can do special things with special players, and so it's it becomes A. A right of passage to be in New England, and that we can take somebody, and we can show you amazing things that can be done and they've done that with flair after play after player so Cam Newton and healthy can move around. I. It's GonNa be, too. It's like a gravitational force when it's to special to be able to show what they can do with a great Cam Newton. Yeah,

Fresh update on "steve young" discussed on Niners Nation

"Neighbor state farm is they're. All right. Next up, I want your take Levin on something. I saw from Steve Young. He was at a virtual event to honor the late Great Dwight Clark, and he said quote that will be tested this year and it will be fun to watch regarding the forty niners whether they can repeat. He said because if they can withstand that scrutiny in that intensity, that's when you think, oh, we're going to be great for a long time because that's a big filter, a big hurdle to get through. If they can do it this year, you gotta think that they can do it every year for four or five years now. The niners will definitely be the hunted and not hunter this year. Do you think that what Steve Young said holds up if they can do this year that they will sort of established themselves for the next five years as one of the elite teams in the League. I, think it could. It's obviously one of the most difficult things to do and Steve would know he was part of that seventeen year run of ten plus wins every single year for the forty niners, and that is like I said a very difficult thing to do, and we have seen time and time again in NFL, history teams come up they. They get a twelve thirteen when season. Maybe they don't quite make the super bowl like the niners dead. But they they make some noise. They're young everybody says, Hey, this is a team to be reckoned with for years to come, and then for one reason or another, they break apart and they only only ended up having one or two years over a five year period where they actually even made the playoffs I mean it. It happens, and this is the year that will kind of answer that question for the forty niners, one of the things i. I thought was interesting Kyle. US check said on. Tuesday, he pointed out that so many parts of this forty niners lineup are so versatile that they basically have a team full of interchangeable parts. So if something did happen with with one of the running backs and covert or maybe one of the wide receivers that there are so many guys that sort of have redundant skills that they can sort of keep the train rolling a little bit I. Actually thought that made a lot of sense. Yeah. It does and I, think that's part of that is by. By design, and we saw that a lot last year I. mean how many different positions on the offensive line briscoe play and it's already been talked about in training camp that he is still getting some work at center and tackle even though he's expected to be the starter at guard, and it's because they know if there's an injury there, he's GonNa slide over. But you know say there's an injury to mcglinchey or train Williams briscoe would likely move over to tackle because it's the more important position and somebody else would plug in the guard spot so. The niners are aware of that, and I, think that is one of the things they look for when they're drafting for that positional versatility. One of the guys he mentioned was Jerick Mckinnon and I feel like we've we've been on this train before Levin like I, I keep hearing about Jerick McKinnon, how good he looks and how good he of big A. A party can be in this offense lining up in the slot catching balls out of the backfield. All that stop and Juerg McKinnon has not played a single snap for the forty niners in two years. Are you buying jet stock right now while I'm glad you said jet stock because you said train earlier. Okay, and it's not a train. It's a jet. But a I would say, I'm making a small by I. Do believe that from what all the all the players have been Kinda raving McKinnon looks like the real deal he's not been hampered. He hasn't really lost anything due to the injuries, which is certainly possible. We've seen guys who have. All this talent, all this athleticism. They have a couple of knee injuries and they come back and everybody's older finally healthy, and then you see him on the field for the first and you go there. That's not the same guy at certainly seems like jet is the same guy as before which was a guy. They had an off the charts spark score and was a guy that was able to be A. Maybe not a dynamic runner, but a dynamic receiver as a running back, and that is really big for Kyle Shanahan. We we saw in the past where he said, he had all these plays designed for jet in the passing game that he had to rip out of his playbook when he got injured that first year. So, if he's finally out yet to big thing, but we all know his injury history. So I want to buy in because of what people are saying, but this is more of a I'm going to buy a small amount. I'm not buying it. All the niners are buying stock in two rookies, and you've talked a little bit about Brandon and also divine Kenley and something else you Shek said on Tuesday that I thought was interesting. He pointed out that. So, many of the guys are coming back that they're not starting from square one with this offense, and even though you might think that would be tough on a rookie use check basically said when everyone around you sort of knows what they're doing already one, it puts pressure on you to figure it out, but also it helps you figure it out because. The water's not muddy. So to speak, you can look around and other people and see what they're doing, and that will help you figure out what you're supposed to be doing and I never thought about it. That way 'cause I always thought, hey, it's going to be tough for the rookies. Sheridan system is really difficult to learn Yada. Yada but juice kind of gave me a little different perspective today, and now I'm sort of more optimistic that these guys can contribute right away. Right I. Mean It. It's almost like having a teacher's aide but having multiple of them when you have guys who have multiple years in Kyle Shanahan system. Or an Robert saunas system, they can help you almost like a teacher's aide. Hey. If you have a question, Hey, if you're walking into you not hundred percent sure they receive or next to you saying it this you know or whatever, and it certainly helps you and. In this season coming up where you could see a lot of guys playing that otherwise wouldn't do to covert reasons. It could be a really big advantage for the forty niners and no preseason game kills me because part of me is like Oh. That's so bad for these guys to knock it that experience. Is. Like. S. Jalen. Hurd is not going to get hurt and a preseason game. This year trend Taylor's knocking. Re break his foot. You know like I'm. Part of me is Kinda like. Keep these guys sort of in bubble wrap until week one, and then we'll roll the dice and take our chances. Right. For once we're actually see these guys on the field assuming there's not a training camp injury which they're limited to a certain extent on how much they can be doing together. So, there's less chance of an injury but. You're going to see her on the field even if he eventually gets hurt on the real field, but you're going to see those guys and that's exciting because we haven't seen those guys I mean. We've been hearing what this year three now on the jet hype. This is your to on the heard hype. This is year three of going and we'll Trent Taylor was Jimmy Garoppolo favorite target. He could be a really big key to the niners offense. Well, now, we finally get to see it on the field assuming all those guys make it, which I think all three of those are pretty safe bets a little more on Kin, law. Because I've seen a lot of praise from praise of him from Eric, Armstead, nick, Bosa sets of nick both said, he's a good kid which is funny because both of the age difference between them is like twenty days literally. But I'm trying to be cautiously excited here because I remember last year. The praise for Nick. Bosa was people were going not saying the same thing. He's really good..

Miami Local News - Tom Brady Expected To Choose Tampa Bay Buccaneers

"And of course Tuesday was dominated by D. B. M. Q. B. they begin with a social media post from Tom Brady thank you New England for twenty years as the day began to wrap up word would come that Tom Brady would be heading south time for straight talk brought you by straight talk wireless it's Tampa Bay that's the expected landing spot for Tom Brady the the official announcement still to come the Brady expected to be a buccaneer ESPN's Jeff Darlington this kind of is because it goes back a little bit in February when the Buccaneers behind the scene started to realize and recognize that Tom Brady was also serious about entering free agency something the sports world couldn't get their minds around but the box early in realizing that it was real so fast forward to this day and I I I'm actually not all that surprised I I the sources close to him that I'm familiar with it have always indicated that what really really appealed to Tom Brady right now at this stage of his life is the autonomy that he's never had the true ability to say I am in charge of me I'll choose where I wish to be what ultimately was most important to him as he was making this choice for the first time well first of all that's a great point I think that the idea that he was running away from something in New England is very true but at the same time I think he loved the idea of chasing after something new and I think both of those things can be true in that regard he was looking at a number of different elements here too he was looking at trying to be with a coach who is maybe more collaborative not trying to be the general manager of the office reported but just maybe have a little bit more input also wanted a roster that maybe had those offense of weapons to reinvigorate himself and then two other factors maybe to some people warm weather actually like the idea of warm weather and the second thing was proximity to New York City for personal reasons and family reasons so they checked a lot of the boxes in Kampala and that's when it really to me when I started to recognize what he was looking for was when Tampa really started to make sense the news of Brady heading to Tampa Bay coming on the heels of Brady saying goodbye to the patriots in a series of posts on Instagram Tuesday which ended his twenty year run in New England ESPN analyst Steve young we got a guy that I think really wants to enjoy the last little bit of his career get with Bruce Arians who I I was a student you check into my career you know mood shows a lot of fun it was really that was the best antidote for the end of a career because you kind of it kind of grows a little guy I don't have the coast tell the same thing and so Bruce Arians is perfect for the situation so granted that's what you get is Tom Brady I think you'll see a guy joyful he loves football and have seen him love it in a unique way no I didn't get to see Tom Brady love it in a unique Tom Brady way that's not you know and that's what it was all positive for the pages of president we get that but I guess I think given tomorrow when he gets introduce is going to be just a joyful happy guy with a great coach have a great time I think more than anything it's Tom celebrating the right to go beam for true free agent I just finally got a place where a coach can could have a lot of fun and okay so what I'm hearing you say is this is gonna be fun for Brady but I mean ultimately for buccaneer fans that think it's gonna be fun for them like are they selling themselves a bill of goods because we are talking about a guy who's forty three he's not thirty five thirty six thirty seven I think the idea of the house Scott you have to kind of James was was reckless yeah he also was very productive yes you want to started to move on and I think you've got to save yourself we can get that productivity special to pull out of the play action game with the talent that we have a Mike Evans and others we can get that production out of Tom Brady even though we recognize there is in decline and that we can bless and we leave behind the recklessness and look at all of the seven point games that we lost under seven and under with nine games they lost by any state can Tom Brady win those games and I think you have a tough time saying no we can't this is not a set deal is not a team that's Super Bowl ready by area you know I get that but it's a vast racial from the box from Tom Brady and they're gonna mix it in and I think a lot of fun enjoyable self comes out worth noting what we're talking about the Buccaneers after his time in the USFL Steve young was a quarterback for the Buccaneers Tampa Bay then drafted many Testaverde because they thought young was going to be a bust Steve young all of him while Brady is heading to Tampa Bay there's also the departure from New England ESPN's Adam Schefter this signs all along the breadcrumbs laid out of Foxboro there was nothing that took place within the last seven eight months that would lead you to believe that Tom Brady was going to return to New England again let's keep it all in mind let's go back and retrieve some history he voided his contract which actually voice today is the day that the last two years on the deal void he said up to avoid that way she said it up to become a free agent there were no substantial of contract talks at all between the New England Patriots in Tom Brady despite the fact that there's been speculation that there would be that the patriots will construct never happened Tom Brady was open minded about leaving New England and basically exploring what was out there listening to other teams yesterday the negotiating period opened it was the first day he was allowed to hear from other teams he believes that he is far enough along to make the decision that I'm not gonna go back to doing which tells you that he had to be in this spot all along and he had to know that when he was walking off that field in Foxboro after the playoff loss to Tennessee he had to know his mind at that point in time that there was a real possibility that he would not be returning there as the quarterback of the New England Patriots I don't think this is a football decision only I think this is a life decision this is a decision involves him his wife his children his family his lifestyle his TB twelve models it goes beyond just football and someone said last week why is there tension wires are just why did you want to leave New England and I don't think it's a negative situation this is a group that was together for twenty years the one six super bowls that accomplish more than any combination in the history

The Long Road Back to the PGA Tour, with Joseph Bramlett

"People are looking for someone to root for this week? Joseph Bramlett has to be your guy. Yeah thirty one years old. He was the youngest ever. Got To qualify for the US. Am hand you know. He basically took like seven years away from the top levels of the game. I mean as someone who's back as someone who tried to play Pro Golfer a couple years and then you know so the writing on the wall and quit. Yeah I have major admiration for someone that saw the top of the tower and then went to the deepest dungeon. And now has yeah. He's out of it. He had his back. He's LEGIT PGA Tour Player. Top twenty last week at pebble so he was a great guy to talk to him. Yeah we talked to him about twenty minutes. We talked to Rafael. Who is the owner of Genesis for another fifteen or twenty minutes and he told us basically everything that their brain is doing here this week? Why they love this event while they love. La Gulf stay tuned for that a little bit later for now here is Joseph Bramlett are we are here in What is now the Genesis invitatinal press conference center with? Joseph Bramlett the Charlie Sifford exemption. This week now your first time as the Charlie Sifford exemption but a lot has changed internalize since two thousand eleven. When you were in that position the first time you just came off the top twentieth pebble. How are you feeling about the game right now? I feel good. Yeah I feel really good. My coach and I did a lot of hard work in the off season Felt like I was showing some good signs. The first couple events this season and then To have a nice respectable finish last week was a good stuff for people. That don't know your back story like let's just rip through. His backstory is taking taking shots at me. A rude you were a phenom growing up. Tell us just a little bit about where you're from. You know how you got here. Wow okay well story here we go. Yeah I grew up. In San Jose California was born in Stanford Hospital grew up playing junior golf in San Jose Bay area. Yeah when I was fourteen I was the youngest to compete in the US amador. That was a big big accomplishment for me at the time and were teen years old. Yeah it was very young. Yeah it was really cool. I I was got a little bit of media coverage and a lot of attention from college coaches so made the recruiting process. Really easy for me and Yeah from there. I played a lot of amador. Golf in northern California I went to school at Stanford Was able to graduate in two thousand ten and At the end of the year I went through school and was able to get out here in two thousand eleven straight out of college which was amazing steal. It was a big company. People can pull that off no not at all and it was. It was incredible is amazing experience. I would say that I was probably a little bit unprepared for some of the things that came along with playing professional golf. What just how frequently. We Compete Growing up I would play at tournament for three days and then I take two or three weeks off prepping for the next tournament and out here. If you miss a cut and then you've got like five days to get ready for the next one and you my my rookie year. I played nine events in a row and I played eleven out of twelve weeks straight. So I'd never done anything like that big life. Yeah it was. It was just a huge life shock. I mean not only was I competing often but I also didn't go home for like two or three months and I'd never done that before so it was just. It was a big growing experience. That lines up with a lot of what to rookies have told me in the past and are held. Varner said something like that just like your first year is such a learning curve which kind of you know sometimes guys like Matt Wolf or more cowardly like snap their finger and it happens and they get it but that it's much more a rarity than what is the norm now. Absolutely my hat off to them. I mean they`ve. They've played incredible right out of college. Which I mean shows a lot about what they can do But it's it's hard to do that and yeah I I took the the learning curve. Route niners fan absolutely. Oh yeah outsider. Yet it was. It was definitely a tough pill to swallow Starting out the year I was really pumped. I thought we might make the playoffs. I was really pumped. I was like we might be in contention again and then eight games in house like we're good and then Yeah I knew going against the chiefs in the super bowl is going to be hard because they're so dangerous is Jimmy G. The truth for you is he the one Jimmy. Jeez my guy can't roll with. Okay I like it. Yeah I mean from a Franchise Tag Joe Montana and Steve. Young I mean. We have very high expectations quarterback no doubt when Jimmy came to the niners. The excitement around the niners went through the roof for him when he didn't have anything. I'm so he is helped the culture shift in San Francisco and for those reasons alone. I'm riding with as a packers fan. The niners warped our ask twice this year so down there better scary. So good football interlude. They're kind of like that. She was stick with just the football. Let's talk about Shanahan. Nice Forty five minutes twenty eleven. Yeah well you played well. You didn't quite keep your car right. You were just a few thousand dollars. Away thousand-year status. I mean how do you? How do you process being so close? You know being on the grind for that whole year and then just missing out on keeping your card It was tough. It was it was a tough experience. So two thousand eleven was my rookie year out here on the PGA tour and That year actually got my head kicked in pretty good. I didn't I didn't come quite that close to keeping my car. I think I've finished around one ninety five on the money list but the next year was my first year on the what is now the Korn ferry tour and so I think that's what you're referencing that year I was inside the top twenty five all year and thought I was going to get my PGA tour card back. I was really excited because now I had this experience with me looking forward to getting back and I came up short in our last tournament. The tour championship one shot short and I was I was devastated Kinda. Wear you stood where you needed to finish. Never know for sure because I think it was the tour championship there. Sixty guys plan. I was somewhere around twenty fifth and so there are a lot of guys behind me that we're playing well and you never know where it's going to shake out so. I knew I needed to get out of it as I could. Yeah I know that like there's little decisions you make on the golf course. Have these really big effects on the rest of your life. Yeah and that's what you train for as a kid to block all that stuff out just kind of stay. Stay PRESENT. Stay in the moment. I think I've put myself in that situation so many times. That much more prepared for. I've I've learned to do it. But it's it's really stressful. And Yeah so tell me about life since then because now you're actually thriving on the PGA tour but what happened between two thousand twelve and now. What was your road back like? Yeah so halfway. Through the two thousand thirteen season Was warming up for the Utah Championship. And I swing with a LOB wedge. I just got this searing pain throughout my whole body. I felt like every nerve in my body was set on fire and I just got stuck. I couldn't move. I had no idea what it was. I hadn't had anything like that happened before so I tried to get some treatment. You know one thing led to another. I had to withdraw from the tournament. The next day couldn't play and Yeah I spent the next six weeks at home laying on the floor Cross of visceral description by every never my body felt like it was on fire. Yeah with something. I've never experienced before. And anyone with back pain probably has a reference to what I'm talking to But it's it's just such a humbling experience because I went from being a professional athlete. Who Does everything with my body to laying on the floor and you know asking you know loved ones if they can bring me some food or like not brushing my teeth for days at a time because I just can't bend over to do it So it's just it's it's a very very humbling experience. GotTa be one of those things that you and I. We can listen to you. Describe it. We can't understand it until happens to you. Like no one can really understand back dame until they have back pain at least that's my understanding of it. Yeah I I'd say that's fair. I certainly had no idea what I was getting into at the time. Either and There's a lot of people deal with it though. That's the scary thing is that like it's the back dictates everything that moves in your body so if that computer has a problem nothing else functions and yeah. I mean it was from there. I got a lot of imaging and a lot of memories taken and we started to realize that I had an annual charity. My four zero five disc and that takes eighteen months to heal on average. So that wasn't fun. News to hear from the doctor goes through your brain when he says eighteen months. Until you gotta be kidding me. Eighteen months what takes eighteen months like. Yeah I'm like Senate guys to the moon and eighteen months like how does that even but It just shows you how delicate and fragile. The human body is and You know from that point I just started trying to figure out any routes I could take to speed up the process. I saw fifteen different spine surgeons and the first fourteen told me. I wasn't a candidate for surgery. All they could do implement rods and my back and that would end my career and then the last guy last guy was like yeah. I mean I can open you up and take a look. Were you looking for that information from? Are you looking for someone that would agree to surgery or I I was? I I knew surgery was not the best long-term solution but I started getting impatient and I was wanting someone to fix my problem And about the guy is the host this week the same exact things multiple surgery so I imagine yeah and as an athlete like we do things with our bodies and we wanna you know be strong and get back out there and get to work and Yeah I didn't. I couldn't do that so I actually was considering the last guy pretty good. And it's where my girlfriend's stepped in and she's like you're not GonNa do this like not having an experiment. Doctors exploratory back surgeries. She's like go. See this guy that I know. He's a physical therapist and so yes she got me. In touch. With my current physical therapist cody Fowler and Yeah from there. We started piecing together. How my body moved and kind of get me back on on track.

"Ring and it was one heck of a ball game in these Kansas City Chiefs give him all the credit the world it look for you know for for for all the marbles here in the fourth quarter that you know Kyle Shanahan and and the San Francisco forty Niners who were putting consistent pressure on Patrick my homes all night long forcing them out of the pocket making him uncomfortable you know the sum of throws you could tell were under duress but when he needed it most more homes came through the big gun third down in fifteen conversion to tie re kill and how about Damian Williams shady McCoy tonight was a healthy scratch and if you ask yourself you know I wonder why what is in the sea that we don't see and I saw shady house in Miami during the week and and I swallow Sean during the week I didn't have the I knew because the it worded already started to leak out that he wasn't going to play he was a healthy scratch you know most of the post season and he wasn't going to to play in the Superbowl either and now you know why the the lead running back for the Kansas City Chiefs Damian Williams a quad side controversial as I mentioned touch down on the swing pass around the right side of a quarter of the end zone it was a third down play additionally called a touchdown as the the tip of a football broke the plane the question for some of you that are on the other side of the celebration going tonight is that the maybe the the toll was out of bounds before the ball broke the plane none the less they did not reverse the call the call stands obviously Shanahan loses a a Todd did you lose a time out there Jack was at a did he owe owed knows a scoring play so since it was a scoring play he did not have to use it I didn't have to throw the red flags we didn't lose a time out but the improper use the poor use I mean he committed el do you read like mistakes tonight did Kyle Shanahan and for the second time in three years he spent the bit as far as his play calling is concerned they were running the football down the chief thrown all night long and when they had a second five on that drive you chose to throw the football and second of five in complete third and five in complete punt and here come the chiefs it did the the momentum got swung to the chief side by the poor play calling and it's not just me some of the experts after the games of the same thing by Kyle Shanahan so interesting the way this all played out you can really rely on the run game to which was their strongest suit in that final three minutes like he had that qualifying you throw in the final three minutes even in that last drive and and I said you know yeah in years past and I remember the super bowls the all the great forty niner teams had the the big difference between those teams and the last two forty nine teams that have been in the Superbowl have been the quarterback position because Colin Kaepernick couldn't get it done against the ravens what was that's going back about eight nine years now yeah I think twenty fifth what we have technology like what the which super ball is the one in New Orleans at the lights went out and Jimmy go Rapallo tonight when most he needed to take his team down the field we have that one last chance to get the interception of the chief come up with the pick to just see all things but what are you what are your years back to a Joe Montana would he have gone down the field hit rice it Taylor you know he hit the the tight end hit baby Roger Craig out of the backfield this was Jimmy Garoppolo as the old a member in the in the political debates I know Joe Montana and Jimmy Garoppolo you're no Joe Montana AGL now if not Jody and I know Steve young and I guess what Jimmy Garoppolo you're no Steve young lady he played I mean by the way is twenty thirteen the lesson twenty thirteen that was with captain a good quarterback against the ravens he came up short and then I go rob Lowe comes up short to be is it these are very different times for the San Francisco forty Niners at the quarterback

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase responds to support

"Adam Gates in his first season as head head. Coach of the New York jets his record today to end seven nevertheless interesting time for a vote of confidence jet CEO. Christopher Johnston said yesterday Ah Adam gays will return for the two thousand twenty season here is the jets CEO. I want to ensure you there would be no changes changes in coaches Adam. How's the trust of this team as the trust Sam? Joe's trust he has my trust. He's a good man. He's a good coach. There is a lot of work to. There's a great deal of to everyone understands And we're just getting started. I feel really good good Memphis team moving forward anytime you get support from ownership the way that the staff Scott supported. The old has gone way. Obviously we wanted We got a lot of games are jobs improve this team and go out and try to win games every week. And he's with us through every step within our communication with him so he kind of knows what we've been trying to do how we're we're trying to fix things that are that are wrong so no to get his support for him to Kinda see what we're trying to do. It's that's an important step fluish. Well that was Adam Gatien course responding to the SAGA lineup. Was He trying to avoid eye. Contact Tech High. We're out here. Do you find that the timing at all interesting or Steve. Young made the point. Yesterday Robert was a good time to do it. So people stop asking the question. I mean it is a good time. Just say. Hey He's going to be here next year but look he's been there one year having hasn't been a great year for him but you know look overall head coaching record. He's about forty a two percent. When winning percentage he wins about forty two percent of the time? So you know. It doesn't look so great for him moving forward but look he's got the support Ownership they're going to give him one more year and I can guarantee that next year if they're in the same position that they're not going to be so lenient on giving him another year. So Oh you look at what. NFL coaches are nowadays. They have guaranteed contracts. I highly doubt they WanNa give him a nice contract and then just release him halfway through his I well it gets to be an expensive decision. Yeah and that's a really great point because ownership obviously is invested in their pick. They want their pick to look good exam. You know you don't WanNa WanNa give up on what you decided so quickly although that has happened to certain coaches inside right around the league. But you can't forget that even even when Todd Bowles was there that the jets were ten and six in their first season and it was really bad. Blow to this team to the supper loss against the Miami Dolphins and just some of the adversity city that they've gone through since Particularly when there's been a lot of expectations with Sam darnold presidents on that team. Well Yeah. He was brought in large part to work with a young quarterback to develop SAM. Darnold help him take the next step. What's interesting is that they share the same stadium with the giants are struggling as well? Now in this case Pat Shurmur is in his second year as a head coach. But look they're coming off the bye. They've lost six straight. What's the word around his future? Well Adam gays was asked recently just how secure he is in his job in one of the ways in which which he retorted. What's to say I'm built for this? Just projecting confidence which you would expect the head coach to do. But I would be remiss to mention that some of the reporters in New York noted that was kind of the same something that Ben mcadoo said three weeks before the giants got rid of him and and clearly this is not the adversity or excuse me what they were looking to results wise to be having right now coming off of in two years of What they endured under Ben mcadoo but the reality is promising as Daniel Jones has looked particularly when he's throwing the ball With with the return of Saquon this is not what they were looking for. They're still suffering losses even with saquon on the field. I mean he has not had over sixty five rushing yards in the last three times he played. Hey only had two one hundred rushing yard games. That was in the first two weeks Daniel Jones continues to have issues with the interceptions. Fumbles and things of what have you and it has has. It was altered in wins. And you can't neglect the fact that this is in New York and teams with that media pressure there as well. It won't stop. It's hard to perform with a rookie quarterback though in this in this league it's not they had veteran it didn't it didn't work out. He still there by the way. He's still there. But look in this league. It's hard for a young quarterback to come in and be successful and I just think that we're witnessing growing pains of a young quarterback trying to figure his way Out through a hard schedule last year at this time he was done you know now. He's about halfway through so I mean it's it's a lot more difficult. I agree with you. Rob The only issue of course with the New York giants dances. They've had a lot of these same problems whether it was a long-term veteran quarterback or a yet stroup Such a great point. And so then you start to have to ask other kinds of questions

Stefon Diggs on trade rumors: “There's truth to all rumors”

"But we will start in Minnesota we we stefan digs and his current situation the vikings white out missed practice for undisclosed reasons yesterday and it led to speculation about his future with the Vikings today today dig said he has not requested a trade but did admit there is true to all the reverse. He said that he's unsure. His agent has talked to the Vikings and what has transpired can't sit up here like everything is everything is okay his obviously not but but I can't say at this point it just trying to work. Do I feel like there's no matter how you sit up. I won't be saved speaking on that off off. Everybody's known to be rethinking the next one that team guy always predicting but for myself. I never made it just about me. I've never been that kind of so my resume persona kind of speaks for itself. I've never been to got to kind of be off. Be like me me me and wanting to have success. I WANNA have team. Success is always what I've been pushing them always without push so my language was stated saying whether I'm giving many opportunities not not not a lot. Have you asked for trade if you haven't communicated anything more so the conversation has been about teen and China had success food ah I haven't spoke to them you gotTa talk to play Sunday. hopefully then you play. I like football. I want to be part of I want to the apart play football on Sundays on CBS practice today you anticipate house and I feel a little bit better as to Yeah Courtney Cronin joins us now from Minnesota. She was there when dig spoke and Courtney. You heard him say. There's there's truth to all those rumors. What's your take a what exactly he met. Wendy he kept repeating that phrase multiple times throughout his media the reliability this morning and I think that that's him not completely closing the door that we're all he did say when I asked him straight out dicky requested trade you want lots traded and he said I had not communicated that and then obviously you have to follow up about his agent. You didn't fully close the door saying that no. I wanted to be your completely like that. Is there some uproot that there might be some validity what we've been hearing me Hainan seeing that this has been something that's been brewing probably for a little bit of time now so. I think what you were. Each phrase wants to continue to say it while he did say walk this year and he's been here for five years. He loves everything about teammates. I think he's questioned what you have to bring his question about whether he's feel value. He does have a role in the offense but it is minutes role than it was US last year and obviously you've been obsolete. I come in the steam because that kind of brings things to a head to where we're at right now. Wondering are we've seen the end of the era. Is this the beginning of something that we should be more concerned with or just going to blow over eventually because feel there's fire. I'm Greg it courtney. Thank you yeah I think in this case. It's fair to say there is some fire that smokes coming from Joe Joe. I'll ask you first of all about attentional trade market for digs if he were to move on well. I spoke to a team last night that I know would specifically definitely be interested in step on just because they expressly told me that and then last night I think an inquiry was made in they came back and said that they were told that Stefan was not going to be on the market and I see we're hearing during that today in terms of other people following up on the reporting what we do know about stuff on digs at here's a career worst three catches per game and five targets per game and and even though he's coming off a career-best production with over a thousand receiving yards and nine touchdowns his production in the two years prior to this season. It's still been under Adam Adam feeling and you know he's working with the new offensive coordinator and Kevin Stefanski and prior to that obviously was Pat Shurmur. WHO's the head coach of the giant so I think talk. You're looking at a receiver who feels like he can do more. You might even feel like he's the best receiver on the team and he's right. He is not a Mimi Guy in terms terms of how he portrays himself publicly. I've covered him a lot of times. I was there for the Minnesota miracle of so many of his games and by comparison you would definitely not put him out there but off in that sense but just listening to his words and the fact that he did leave the door open with certain things that he said he is letting you know that he is frustrated in that also think that that it fits within the era of athletes right now this season and last season being more vocal about their situations taking more control of where they feel like they can best flourish and I'm getting the hint although I have not talked to him directly or his agent that he's trying to let people know that he feels like everything is not completely kosher dill. It's funny you say that Joe Joe and I think Steve Young. You made the point two weeks ago with the genie sort of being out of the bottle I this is another example of a player. I think trying to sort take some control of a situation a situation that from his perspective is not working the way he'd like it to work yeah. I think it's a direct reflection on the quarterback play that that's been in Minnesota. Obviously his diminished role isn't because of injury or lack of talent. It's because the quarterback isn't getting everybody the ball right. Now I think last ask year when you see how everyone was involved in Adam dealing was getting the football step on digs with everyone was happy. Everyone was performing. Everyone was getting the ball. There were schematically. There were in situations where both of these guys were making big plays and that's what you're used to seeing from the Vikings and I think this year those players just aren't there and there's plays aren't there for those plays aren't necessarily there for Stefan digs for any of those past catches right now because of the quarterback play and I don't know if that's schematics. I don't know if that's simply the quarterback but I think he's unhappy with how he's being utilized and he's taking things into his own hands and to his credit. I've known for some time as well. He's never ever been me guy. He's never been so. This isn't necessarily about putting himself before the team I think at some point he has to look at his career and where he wants to go trajectory wise and make a decision and listening to talk. You almost felt like he had a little bit of emotion coming out when saying I'm a team guy and I'm not a me guy and I'm just trying to put the team. I listen as a football player. I know you can you've experienced this. We only have a certain amount of years and we only have a certain amount of time that we can go out there and play the game so you don't WanNa feel like that. You're wasting a season and I think that's why a lot of guys once they realize look. There's no chance for us to get to the playoffs this year. There's no chance that we're GONNA win in this division this year and teams on the flip side of that. I understand okay yeah. This season is pretty much over so let's try and get some value in some of these guys that are good football players and that's why we're seeing that more this year than maybe in years past. I thought the most interesting thing that he said Real quick when you're asking me if he was going to practice US I don't know I hope so. That's that was the less you know that he has expressed something to the team and he's maybe worried about how they reacted to. How that's what I'm thinking yeah I mean he he clearly was not one hundred percent sure you're next and Steve Young joins US now Steve. We have talked about this before given our conversations and I'm GONNA assume zoom. This doesn't surprise you that we're seeing another example of someone stepping up and saying this isn't working for me no players who are going to continue to demand what's going to be interesting. Is there is is there going to be a market and I think the Jalen Ramsey and if this situation does go forward and these guys are able to get to new teams I I think the ice will break because there are a number I mean everybody in the League has had moments star player now this star players that can do this because they're they're not. GonNa risk career other. You know non star players are not going to risk their careers to demand a trade this cut and so the star players going to say. I know there's a better place for me. I know there's a quarterback it'll throw me the ball and others office coordinator that will take care of me and that's going to continue to grow and I think this is a this is really the really important time Wendy right now awesome because of Jalen Ramsey doesn't get moved and digs does not get moved and the kind of kind of chill this whole thing and can stop it then this market will not not be kind of a burgeoning market but if they start to be able to be moved then everyone the legal realize I can make my way out of here and I wanna be somebody somewhere else and to the to the point just I it was victor. Rodman raw made it but the average career is three point two years in the NFL players are very aware of it. If I'm going to be great I'm going to be great right now. Well there's no question is a pivotal point in the league. We'll see digs by the way signed a five-year seventy two million dollars extension last year the thirteenth highest paid receiver currently in the

Who were the best left-handed NFL quarterbacks?

"Today's national lefthanders day so you know i think of great left-handers we did this on quarterbacks talking about the n._f._l.'s greatest. All time left handed quarterbacks and you forget some some gyms. Zoran is a guy that we tend to forget seattle's gyms orne left-hander okay. Why did you look funny at me well because okay that's fine so he wouldn't have made the final cut right off the good n._f._l. Career so you would think of boomer assize and for for sure super yeah kenny stabler yup the snake steve young. That's the one michael vick in in listen in a short window took in their season. Michael vick wins this if it was just on which which of these lefties had a better single season i think vick was changed the way the game played he was in a single gle season. I would give a strong consideration. Michael vick steve young would be again. We put these lefties on a playground and you've picked the the left handed quarterback you want. I'm going to pick steve young. I thought he had the best combination of the things

The pride of the PLA

"That's not every day you get to go on a Chinese warship, but for China. Correspondent Bill Birtles the rare opportunity came up during a naval fleet. Review off the port city of ching Tao, and, despite terrible, weather, and heavy handed media management. He says it was a day out like no other. Several kilometers out to sea of China's east coast, watching the pride of the Palay nineties flight go by, at close range from my vantage point on a training ship. Chidi Guang, China's first aircraft carrier. The Liaoning is just one hundred meters away, and yet I can barely see it. It's almost completely lost in the heavy fog and constant rain. The reason I was on a Chinese navy, ship in the middle of a massive international fleet review was because of diplomacy. This actually wasn't my first time on a Chinese warship my very first assignment for the IB see and China was to cover joint drills between the astride Sean's and Chinese off the coast of Guangdong province back ban. I managed to get on a Chinese ship in the port, but this time was different. We were. Being taken out to witness more than thirty Chinese submarines destroyers and the carrier go by president Xi Jinping was on Jason ship observing the review that they were also seventeen foreign ships, including HMO Melvin, which is why we were invited. Astrid was in good company. The Japanese South Koreans Vietnamese and Indians were among the nations that sent ships like Astrid area, all of them had their differences with China yet, this was a goodwill parade. The city of ching, Dow was in lockdown for the event, I asked one tourist retiree if he was excited about watching the naval parade from the shore, he told me he was disappointed that police had blocked all the roads to ching Dow's Haba. So we couldn't walk down and see all the ships himself. He wasn't happy about it. But as I was. Talking to him a couple came over and corrected him sighing the heavy handed security misses a normal and other countries do the same. They were Cain to assure me. It wasn't security. Overkill, Justin necessary safety measure. Of course. If the strategy indefens- falls gathered more than fifty ships in sight. Sydney Haba for a parade and then blocked all the access to the harvest side. I suspect people would not be too happy, but this is China and extreme security is the norm here. So then it was time for what when Cam for the fleet review with my cameraman Steve Young. We convened at the hotel with other invited journalists and began the first of many security checks. All our equipment was meticulously sqauad. We were. Then boss to the port where we went through to lots of airports styles security to get onto the ship. It took ages. But once on board, we will take into a lodge, dining room where we were served a box lunch vacuum packed bheith assaulted Koenig, some cake, and fruit. And then now ship again. Chugging out to see all this was fairly smooth, but there was one very obvious problem. We've come to ching now to get amazing shots of dozens of warships lined up fighter jets in formation flying above us. The might of China's rapidly growing navy on full display and yet the weather was atrocious. Thick fog and constant rain meant we could barely see more than one hundred meters in front of us when it was time for the parade to begin. We couldn't see more than one ship at a time Justice, the Ryan new intensified further, the announcing declared the Liaoning aircraft carrier was going by this was the mine event after all, and yet everyone on day was staring into the grave wondering where the heck it was. West for us is the moment when the astride Ian ships, sail by Steve long couldn't see HMAS Melvin even with the maximum zoom on his camera, you couldn't take a worse style for Nival fleet review and with it over, we scrambled to a pace to camera on dick. This is awesome flexing a celebration. I tonight Melvin from Friday or is here. I thought my summarize something senior Chinese official had said at a function, the night before that the parade, according to China wasn't about muscle flexing. And yet, one of my military minders listening in took umbrage at that as the ship chopped back to poor. He warned us that we must delete that he's the camera or risk access to the navy in future. Such threads and not uncommon in China. But it seemed to me it was a bit light to be threatening us given that all the filming was done in the story pretty much finished the pace the cameras stayed in our report as Dido all ou- shots of the warships lost in the fog. Visually stunning naval parade. It wasn't but a Diana's, see with China's navy is not something you forget easily. The frustrations of correspondence life, Bill Birtles, there reporting from Beijing or ching Tao, more accurately.

"Opportunity to draft Tom Brady and they pass. I didn't know this either isn't that crazy. I mean, this is a team that had Joe Montana. And then after Joe Montana. They had Steve Young. Yeah. Had great great quarterbacks to hall of famers. They went through twenty years of great teams up there. They would come down and kick the crap out of the Rams, and then the Rams go up there and get their ass kicked by the forty Niners. And then and they passed on Tom Brady says because they already had Steve Young. Is that the reason no they had another Italian? Quarterback that they thought would work better for their scheme. They they had a scheme up there. And they wanted to quarterback they would fit into the scheme as opposed to change at all for the quarterback. I see. So the the Boston's the patriots. They drafted Tom Brady. I think he was billion or something like that way deep and he was their fourth backup quarterback. And they only dressed him because they thought eventually he would be okay, you'll be pretty good and they pulled him around which they probably should him. They should've probably dressed another lineman or another defensive back and Andrew another like safety or somebody. But they drag this guy around this Tom Brady ranks, they they saw something in them. And Tom Brady when he was drafted by by the patriots. He went up to the owners is named Robert Kraft. Yeah. Is that his name Robert Kraft? He went to Robert Kraft he introduced himself. He said, hey, Mr. craft. I'm Tom Brady, and Robert he's very involved with the team, you know, he goes to draft. And he and he's very involved. He's not just an an honor that phones at him. And he says I'm Tom Brady and biogas. I know who you are. We drafted you. And he looks at Robert Kraft, and he says I'm gonna be the best person you've ever drafted for this franchise. Well, here's a four string quarterback playing at all. And it turns out he was right? You know, was he ever let's get a little more into it here. This is thanks to our good pals. And I'll tell you who are good pals are, but they did a great piece here on YouTube. Right. "I four or five years we were on this big thing for four or five years. I kept hearing this argument. Era. Jurors goat Brady second or Brady one. Rodgers to greatest all time apparently Joe Montana. John Elway never existed. Peyton Manning never existed. I always said. You do get it. Like, Tom Brady's got a room in his house full of trophies. They're not that stupid argument. And then I had something I said something during the middle of this year. And I said the it was perceived as a hot take I said the eight best quarterbacks I've ever seen in my life. It's not just about Super Bowls. This is about talent playoffs records your impact to the league. Your impact in the city. What did you overcome? What did you play with the eight best quarterbacks? I've seen again. There's a lot of different. It's Peyton Manning. Tom Brady Joe Montana. Terry bradshaw. John elway. Dan marino. Aikman and breeze. Now. People said you're just saying Troy Aikman. Oh leadership playing hurt toughness dominating a great division. When Washington giant in Dallas pout, those eight best quarterbacks, but the one that got people worked up is drew Brees was a hot take. Was way Rogers, and I said he's right on the outside right next to Brett farve and Steve Young and maybe Dan Fouts. And isn't it interesting? Mr. I'm crazy hot take. Right. I was whoa. You're and I said, no, let's talk about impact to a city. Whereas Aaron Rodgers was given a championship roster a championship level head coach and championship momentum in front office. Drew Brees was given the Cleveland Browns with a port Katrina bountygate. One guy was given the laughing stock of the league that had one playoff win in the history of the franchise. The other player was given arguably the most iconic franchises in the NFL with championship level players. Great momentum terrific front office. Very good head coach. So that's not close. Also. Let's go through four or five things. If drew Brees wins this weekend and goes to the Super Bowl, and they are favored and most people like the saints. If drew Brees get to the Super Bowl. And if he does against Kansas City or New England that again going to be a field goal game. If drew Brees wins the Super Bowl. And again, they're favored at home this weekend to get their Super Bowl titles against Aaron check breeze. NFL records, not close check breeze impact on a franchise. Drew Brees folks is the saints. To Aaron Rodgers is arguably not the Packers best quarterback ever impact on the franchise is not close leadership qualities. I don't know. One guy has former teammates constantly calling him out one guy is revered where three hundred pound offensive lineman. Literally do we have the tape? This is what happened when an offensive lineman Zack street retired recently for the past eight years I've played in front of the most prolific passer in NFL history. Drew Brees has been the single greatest

Bikes and bureaucrats: getting the shot in Beijing

"S we approach the fiftieth season. I thought we take a look back at some of the programs memorable stories this year and today, let's hit to China on ABC TV a few months ago, you might have seen foreign correspondents investigation into China's homegrown rubbish crisis and didn't happened with some startling images about China. Correspondent Bill Birtles just at side. Beijing walking between thousands of dumped bicycles will sometimes in China. It's the easiest shots that are the hardest to film and Bill Birtles found out the hard way. But never underestimate the sees Beijing bureau, I'll let Bill till the story in Beijing there up lace military armed police security guards. And even volunteer neighborhood, watch types everywhere, and they have one thing in common when they see a foreigner. And the camera first instinct is to shut us down recently. I tried to film a bike dumping ground. These are the places where local. Governments dumped tens of thousands of share bikes to clear them off city straights. They make for quite the visual shot, and it was a good example of Chinese overproduction and whites with heard of a massive dumping ground on the outer fringe of Beijing tens of thousands of bikes in yellow blue orange green all piled up as far as the I could see we drove up an adjacent road only to find to private security guards guarding the site. They said multiple gods. Took turns to guard the site, including at night worse yet the bike dumping ground is perfect for a drone shot. But when Steve Wang lighter tried to fire up his drone, it wouldn't fly. Beijing government enforces geo blocking on drones in the city. And it turns out this village was right on the periphery and still affected. So we left empty-handed. Having filed to film a single shot. It was not a good day. But a few weeks later we hatched a plan to go back. So it's about five in the morning here on the outskirts of Beijing, and we're on a bit of a covert mission of cameramen Brandt coming and the other Beijing KOMO Steve one with me. Brent how you feeling? Well, it's conditions could be better. But wait mart work in favor. And then it's it's quite early. And it's it's been whether it hasn't been great. So we're hoping the security is of this particular Artis leaving. This is going to make a quick escape a little bit harder for bogged down so to speak. We've got the getaway drive. A he hung Ming. His drive extraordinary. We've got the car. We're ready to go get mugged up here as we moved across the muddy field as quietly as we could power. Neue creek dean the move. The longer village down in that little gap on coming down this from towards the towards. The thing is we got up at three in the morning. It was a two hour drive to get here. We'd already come back empty-handed once before and we really wanted to get this story. I was not taking any chances to have it scuttled by a couple of bleary eyed security guards. As we need the bikes. We sheltered behind some hedges. It's one thing to get some quick shots. It's another to do a proper job of it, including a piece to camera and some aerials if as a Curie God us, so hurt us like county IVA getting the way and ruin everything as I went in -mongst the bikes with Steve one, I rehearsed pasty Hamra one of many dumping ground dotted around just hoped. My voice wouldn't be loud enough to alert the guards as we started punching out pieces to camera brand would to get the shots from the sky. If anyone can get around some technical problems withdrawn, he's the man and Stephen I got out shots the word of the drone taking to the sky. Above us made me realize we were half way towards getting the shots. We need at any point a God could come down and stop us. But it was becoming clear out gang. Able to come back so early in the day had paid off the guards were asleep. And after twenty minutes of uninterrupted filming we got out of there. So mission accomplished are on the way back. Fred you had a few struggles withdrawing, but you got it up there in the end. Yeah. Okay. We live and learn with these things. You know, we didn't go very high, and we didn't go very far. So hopefully, we won't attract any. Issues from doing that. And Steve Young men on the grounds shooting up close. How did that guy? Yeah. This is to be honest quite hard for us. And there is. Security guy, and we have to. Lead fun some pass, and and and get rid of them. So I think yeah, it's but it is perfect. Get everything. Yeah. But this is just a bunch of Boston Gul's in a field. Why why do you think is the security was so difficult to get what should be such an easy shot because this is China? So to be honest, they their job is stub us to fend fan of the place and the shoot at the report the news. And I think this is only job what what what they do. But we got it. Yeah. Yeah. Got it. Doing TV in China can be an uphill battle. Which makes the good days all the more enjoyable this Bill Birtles in Beijing. Because pundits report.

"You ready to go? Sure. Warmed up if you could throw to any wide receiver not named Jerry Rice current player. Former player who would you wanna throw to Randy moss? Yeah. Great answer. Well, I'm honestly, I mean, most the nominal athletes. John Taylor the most phenomenal. I watched that the played receiver that could if I could get him running routes and really focusing gone didn't thousand eight who while okay, you knew that you've been assest won a bunch of it. We just wanna make you know, who who was the more talented quarterback you Montana. What do you? What is this? This. To me. What do you mean? Like singing better singer. Okay. All right. How about what do leave you out of it who do you think the better quarterback Brady Montana? Well, I I'm not not Nestle political. This really is proof what they're asked to do in different generations. That's the key in each. What I'm seeing Tom's today. There's nothing that Tom's as Joe couldn't do. And so they they in the generation like I would everyone playing right now. I mean, my guy shouldn't have a gun have a little, you know, RPO fake watch after commit don't have any time to spend together in the spring not-i'm someone I know everything that's a pretty good place to be. I do think about you playing today. And I mean for the younger listeners this podcast. I don't like you've had when you were at your peak and your stretch. I mean, it was it was unbelievable. And you already know that. I mean, you don't you don't need to hear how good yard for me. But I think you of any of the previous generation quarterbacks in today's rules may have benefited the most really do think that play. I remember watching three and two thousand twelve hundred started the all kind of movement stuff. And then still also come off the stakes were allowed Bill walls was such a grilled one. What are we doing? To me and sit up there and just kind of spreads field. And it's just like. What? And then have the. Right. You can't crab receivers. Like Thomas day the middle of field. It's unpatrolled can hit anybody. I'm wide open. You're doing a quarterback. It's like crime. No, let me. The guys, I know nobody really getting hard. I. Okay. We got two more quick ones if you'd gone to any other school besides BYU wear. I was headed North Carolina. Minute have committed they're already and I was going to talk my freshman year when I was three quarterback. I recall my food this. I should be North Carolina shot the play kid coups. Who's starter was already hurt? First couple of games a season. North Carolina was my last one during I think the second year you win the US F L you were out of running backs and then you decided to play running back. Could you have been a ten year running back in the NFL north one zero? There's no way. Anything no way. It wasn't really much fun to only thing happened. There was the last game hit we all headed out everyone. Lando and a half John hill goes. Sire was my my backup quarterback. And they said he they wanna see him play because the Kansas City Chiefs one gets gets film on them. I'm like, yeah. Good. They didn't have another running back. Plane going. Tougher than I thought 'cause I've never played any else in my life. But no, no chance. Good running back. So still humble Steve Young. You're the best man that was. Truth a little bit better. Runner than you, give yourself credit for. But I hope you had fun with that. Because when I was reading that chapter. I can't wait to talk to Steve about some of the stuff because we could've probably done an allergist on Oldenburg. But you know. A couple of just some of the stories of that played bus driver. They want only happen in the end Like that. that. To the to the games. Like, I can't take much. No one has any money. My I'm like, I'll say. Like. Goes. Hey, steve. We'll check you out soon manager the rest of the season. I think t-, right..

"That at the press conference. You had like you were sick to your stomach second thoughts. And you want to go out there like you wanted to not go out there. And I I just I think that the enormity of of what this was now going to be with this contract. And you know, 'cause all I, you know, I'm a guy that's in my head a lot. And I'm always thinking about what other people are thinking about and how they gonna you know, I I knew enough players that were playing a head of me a couple of years, and you know, how it was all out of whack, and I think just hit me all that moment by the time. I. I got home and got settled in. I gotta go. Cock back there. You know, then was job go to. But I think right at that moment, everything combined. You know, like this is this is not the NFL. Why am I what am I doing exactly again who what? And I think that you know, there's only I got lightheaded I've ever getting interviewed by Jim hill. Like, I told you I I think I fell backwards almost fainted 'cause I kind of how what's the next move. I'm gonna make my life. It was crazy. Did you have any because you what you missed the first six games your rookie year because you actually finishing classes right of the USFL because of the way scheduled in the middle of the season. Right. So you going on right? So you get the last twelve in was there any point that you actually had fun. Like, did you actually get to the point of like? Okay. Wait a minute. We're out here on playing football. I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing played everything about everything about being down there and making the transition and with older guys. We're now pros a whole new that I was ready. For you know, just all of it was super talk living in the Mary at, you know, driving down is nothing was easy about it. But the, but the football shit coaching me, you know, some of best things I ever learned about quarterbacking. Some of those stuff that really was bedrock to why was any good in the future was happening right there. And I love playing. I mean, it was weird when we play in calcium with a thousand people. So a great storyline. I had to move the huddle back as the defense gets here. The call, you know, quiet, and you know, just, but the football part of it that just the fun of you know, I remember one time we were snap it over my head in the shotgun. Snap over my head with what happened, you know. And. Who knew that? When I went to Tampa Bay Ryan when I went to Tampa Bay and realized what was happening there. I'm like man ball in LA much better than football in Tampa Bay. Yeah. That's the iron. Right. I I don't know the the hall of Famer sitting next to him. The team non-classroom put together we were young. But we were good. We had a lot of great players. That's I think would promo does a great job of in the book is that it would be really easy because I remember watching those games. I'm I'm a kid. So I don't I don't know. I mean, it was just cool. So I didn't know that the gap was with it could've been monstrous, I would've been able to tell you. I don't know nine years old. Right. So I when I read the book, I thought, okay, are they is this just sort of a pro US fell slant on history that it was a lot closer and talent level. And that these teams are getting better and better. But then you start looking at the actual migration of USFL players to the NFL, and it can't be debated. I mean, you guys had some really talented rosters with horribly run teams. I think is kind of the moral of the thing. There are a few teams run. Really, well, but I think the irony of your personal stories that you're out LA express USFL, this awful owner who gets being exposes a total real estate fraud who's completely out of control and. Yet you end up at Tampa in the NFL, which was worse..

"And then ended up there out LA playing for an insane owner and the chapter Steve Young is great so checkout football for bulk of Perlman, and I think anyone that I love the business side of this stuff. But it's not boring because every chapter you go. This is insane. I can't possibly believe that this would happen. So we'll get to Steve here. Steve start at the beginning. The eighty four draught is coming up. You're still out in Provo lovely Provo. I've been there a couple times and the draft is coming up, and this USFL deal is is starting to make some noise, and it seems like Howard Cosell wants you to go. There your agency Steinberg at the time take me to the very beginning. When you're thinking about even the USF fell is an option, maybe voiding Cincinnati with the number one pick in the NFL. Right. It was it was really I love while you loved them. Not red-shirted all my buddy that I came in. As freshmen redshirt is. So they're gonna play another year. And so I was kind of leaving town when we were we were really could we? Undefeated baylor. Undefeated and we had another great team coming back. I wanted to stay with you. This is good. We can't get beat killing it, you know, stuck in the Heisman. Maybe I ran out of time. So I had to go everyone else's sticking around. And. The Bengals at home. And they said they wanted to Jeff into I stem wife flown out and said, look, we've decided to pick you, and and I, you know, the dawn cholesterol sudden showed up who had been with the Rams for many years. You know, I just left the Rams kind of unceremoniously in some ways and pick up what the express Goldman was the was the coordinator, you can see that the great. John was coach LA very familiar with L, and it's strange. It sounds as eighteen year old theater. Maybe by twenty twenty one to twenty two. I, you know, the Coker levels of the people great coaches that I'd be around being away on the beach. Not that that was like a big deal. But just you know, and then I would be an also I could go play really necessarily want a backup, Kenny Anderson. So I I was thinking to myself, you know, at least I breaking down to LA with classroom had this trip, and I went down and play pool with Joe Namus and. And you know, just all these guys that you know, said look you can do this. I know it's unusual. But the people you're around and what they never really did introduce me to the owner. Right. Definitely I definitely want to get to the owner here because that's the funniest part of the chapter. Well, maybe the scariest part, but it really felt like it was this combination of of Cincinnati Cincinnati having that number one pick than being notoriously cheap. You mentioned Ken Anderson. I mean, it sounds crazy to think that he would be the number one overall pick. And I don't know how long they thought potential. You would be backing him up. If it had been any other team than Cincinnati. Would this even been a discussion about going to the US? Oh, you know, Don classroom was I mean, he was it was great. It was people express that around a long time, you know, he'd he'd use the ram, and he was he was he was NFL. So it was almost like it wasn't wasn't like the NFL and this rear. We're group of people that didn't know what they were doing, you know, in a strange city that gunslingers with the San Antonio. You know, it was really it's kind of similar another team. Maybe the Dallas Cowboys Eli Roger Staubach with my hero. Question gotta go. But you know, I don't know. I don't know. But I certainly believe at least I history with the Bengals before that with the workouts others. It's just this running didn't help as well. That's for. Sure. Okay..

"When great is a coach and Phoenix, and he was announcing the games kind of annoying when he doesn't games, and they were like shut up. It's good for sick for ticket sales and sales for the station. This is going to get lot of. Excitement. But what if it doesn't work to like, you know, nothing the best part about that is like you're you're right to question at the time. But is one hundred percent you'd to be like, what are we doing here? Yeah. I didn't know what the organizations and it wasn't me killing it. I just went. Hey, do we know that this is a slam dunk and everybody was like, yeah. It's a slam dunk. It's awesome. And then I got called in the principal's office after segment what are you doing? So. I don't know if that segment had a point I think the point in summation would be this would be there's a million different guys you can hire. And not every path has to be the same. But there's nothing that replicates the excitement of hiring somebody who's kind of one of your own and has it equity with the fan base. Keep saying equity because it really is important. But much like a draft pick. It can make all the sense in the world would be the right measurable. It can be the right thing on paper. You can love the program the kid comes from. But you don't really know until that person has the job and always had a great start in a rough patch since Lynch, we don't know Ozzie Newsome better than every one of these guys as far as the resumes concern, there's basketball guys that are great at it. And then there's Bob Myers who didn't play in the pros at all who had put up there, maybe even above age, and there's aaa's who may know players really really, well, but can't help himself magic who can be the best face of a franchise because he's the biggest freaking star. But it's pretty clear because of that competitive drive doesn't have the patience that maybe need right now when you put together this weird roster around LeBron. So I don't have the perfect answer for any team. That has a new guy that thing. Need? But I kind of understand any any of the really any decisions they make and the whole reason included the baseball thing is there because they don't care. They don't care. They're not about. You know, they don't they don't do those hires anymore, maybe jeeter. But that's an ownership thing where he's, you know, doing the same thing as the other Marlins owners far as you can tell so far coming up after the break Steve Young on all the USFL stuff. And just a reminder keep the numbers cranking back in Bristol was great to meet with everybody about podcast, it's doing so. Well, and it's doing so well only because if you and every single one of you that subscribe rate and review and keep the russillo show podcast rolling. At least just well, I guess we can't say at least because we're only allowed at this point to do one week. I would do more, but we're just doing one week. And just a reminder every time we could see the numbers and everything it's it's worked it's worked and it's worked because of all of us. So thanks again. Steve Young hall of Famer works with us, and I don't wanna talk necessarily about the NFL stuff. I want to talk about the USFL stuff because the book that I read a while. I've referenced a couple of times Jeff Pearlman who's wrote a bunch of different stuff. That's create a Cowboys thing Lakers deal. But it's. Football for a buck. And even if you didn't know anything, but I actually think this book is better for people that don't know anything about the USFL because the absurdity of these franchises of this league. Even the Trump factor alone. You could just read that Herschel Walker, and then Steve Young was this do that didn't think he'd end up there..

"He may made more at ESPN. That's a bummer. Wow. Aaron Boone the Yankees manager is making a million dollars. Now, you all sit there and do the thing. That's the worst. No, you wouldn't because no one would hire you. Okay. I can't like no, none of these social was the highest paid. He's out. Joe madden. Who had heard for years actually is one of those guys that follows letter the law. You would think that with the jed who are great in the front office the cubs that the reason he does all the Corky stuff going back to Tampa. And then which icago because he's bored and wants to do stuff and make it look like he's actually the manager. And I've been told that he doesn't do anything Francona 's at four million. I think is one of the best manners. I don't really love Francona. But he's a great manager. And he's at like four million. I think he's actually doing real stuff so between socia- two of the top three guys are out. So the salaries keep going down more and more and more because the front office is like, and I get the GM should be paid more than the MLB manager. But that job stinks. And that is I'm looking at it's too. So Joe Torry mid seven and a half million dollars eleven years ago. Yeah. Tory made seven and then the dodgers when McCord who had no money because bud Sealy hooked up his friend with a franchise. The dodgers. The let him sell it at like four times the profit the more. I dig in some of the ceiling stuff. He was terrible. He takes credit for revenue and all its everybody's revenue. Went up in sports, everybody everybody except for the WNBA. You know, oh, we have more playoff team gay. Congrats and expanding the playoffs from four teams. I don't even give seal hard time about the the steroid thing. 'cause that was more in the players union fighting it all the time. But ceiling was giving these these franchises that were up for sale. He was just saying no, I want this guy to own it. I don't want that guy to own it. So you get to own it. I mean think for the Red Sox and it worked out the way that it did. But he just ended bidding. He ended binning and gave it to Henry he gave court this dodgers team mcchord because he was I don't know, man. I'll just be nice about it. Was kind of a clown show with this whole thing he hired Tori to be like, oh, cool. We'll get the Yankees guy, and they paid him all of this money, and none of this stuff matters. So we can sit here and look at a million dollars. It's still a million dollars. Imagine if you're the Yankees manager, and you're making a million dollars. You have to have a place down south and a place in greater New York City and gritty you could do to jersey. But. A million dollars to be the case manager, and it's new I mean, not noon, excuse me. It's from morning until you go to bed. That's a long job with no days off basically from February until the playoffs. So. I don't know if the Cowboys should take Troy Aikman and run this thing that. Yeah. That that's these guys are like draft picks. I can understand anyone that's introduced running a front office happens in basketball to happen here in LA with magic. When angels announced in Boston. It was new ownership. They wanted to do something exciting. They wanted to get Chris Wallace away for making all the final decisions bird was taken Maceio was taken they go. Who can we do? Let's grab one of the starting five from eighty six. They gave it to age one on the year. I was like, I don't know. Is it gonna work and it's worked needs great. He's awesome. And he's ten times better than maybe a lot of people thought he would be. But I remember the sales staff at the place that I work because we had the Celtics right for radio they go. Why are you going on the air questioning this? I don't know because he he was okay..

"Sports Roseman roamed NFL teams. I think when he was an undergrad in college. He finally got hooked up with tanenbaum there. Who's with the jets hard knocks ended up with the dolphins after he had a brief weird career where Mike Tenenbaum was going to represent media members in stuff like as an agent and then he got right back with the dolphins. I think Parcells finds a way. Or the owner of the jets finds a way to get ten gigs. Every single time Bruce Allen who was with the Redskins who everybody thought that was a great thing to bring him in gets Neider out of the way, kind of the thing that everybody wants Jerry Jones to do. He brings him Bruce Bruce had an agent run there too. But it's father's also legendary coach the NBA the GM president thing it's a little bit different because they're seven players in the NBA or seven GM's in the NBA that played or I kinda just looked at his decision makers little easier for me to decipher all that stuff like Kevin Pritchard. Technically, isn't the GM? But he kinda is. And so he had a little bit of a career baseball was were Jerry DiPoto. The only decision maker unless you include Billy being who's no longer the GM. But again, that's that thing that I keep getting too. But as far as just GM Jerry DiPoto, the only GM in baseball that used to play. It's almost all numbers guys now, and that also relates some story that no one talks about but Bob Nightingale wrote about it this summer is that. These baseball managers. The whole hail have this guy pitching inning. And this is all all from the front office. It's giving the point we're half. These managers are handed a spreadsheet and you'll follow this and their salaries reflect that I can't you tell you this. You're not going to believe almost twenty of the major league baseball managers are in the one millions. Alex Cora salary for the year is in seven figures. It starting at the is eight hundred thousand dollars.

"And certainly what Lynch is doing in San Francisco. Yeah. I sort of agree. My thing with will. And I said this to will. I don't think the Cowboys rosters that much of a disaster. I just think they need a better coach and Dak is sort of regressed. I think if you fixed act and fix the coach that they're not that bad. I if I were a an NFL team. I'd ask Dante scar Nekia how much I'm gonna hand you a blank check. And will you fill it out and come fix our offensive line because our offensive line in Dallas is actually incredibly talented, and we we've seen what it can do and you can talk about their left tackle regressing. You talk about injuries. Not allowing them to be the same unit. The way they were a couple of years ago when it seemed almost unfair, but scar Nekia fixes everything. He's as good a positional coach New England fans have no idea how spoiled they are with what he has done up there over the years. And I don't know, man. I guess I'm maybe he just doesn't want to go anywhere. I don't know. Let me double check something here. Okay. It's Nekia seventy I give them a thirty year contract. Like, we'll give you one of those Steve Young annuities that will get to a little bit later. Just you know. Decision makers in the NFL. And this can always be a bit of semantics between president vice president actual general manager. So I could be missing something here. So try not to completely freak out. Let it ruin your day if I miss somebody. But Lynch played Elway played Steve with the cardinals has one year of the dolphins. But couldn't find a lot on that. That was it. I don't know if it was just practice squad. Reggie mckenzie. The raiders play for three teams John Dorsey actually the Packers. He played for the Packers for John Dorsey. The Browns play for the Packers for like five or six seasons. Ozzie Newsome hall of Famer. So they're six guys let the John Dorsey play. I think he's an offensive line. It makes sense. Okay. He has to be right. He just uses offense one. Yeah. If he if this comes back tight end. I'll be okay with that. If it comes back. Flanker. I'll be a little surprised. He wasn't. He wasn't a corner. No, I can't I can't imagine. He was a corner. He's. Man, come on, folks. You might just be like the most entertaining guy. I just wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Oh, no. Yeah. Linebacker, by the way, he's Yukon linebacker. I went through every one of these off at low you would be blown away. And I already kind of knew this with some of the bell, check stuff. And then the guy with the jets and the Quinn who's with the lions there are so many it feels like half of the decision makers all came up through New England. Yeah. And they actually have a good players defensive players in the league. Actually, I we're that their team is never good. But see the thing is is Dorsey. I thought his body type would be okay, he used to be like an old Lyme in back in the eighties. And this is what he looks like now apparently just sixty as a to forty is is the linebackers of fourth round pick. Yeah. Little special teams there too. I went through every one of these guys things last night. Hey, russillo, meeting any chicks. Nope. Just them just Reese. Searching, whether or not this guy with the bills played high school football, some of the resumes of these guys are so like you wrote. This your mom wrote it because it would be a dude who was like got no offers out of high school. None zero plays at some small school. No one's ever heard of. And then goes retired due to injuries after freshman year. Or did you retire because you weren't good? What does it mean that if my back hurt my junior high school, and I couldn't play varsity that I retired from professional basketball. You can take credit for that. Yes. Had to retire with back injuries junior and high school from professional because the vagueness of that suggests that you probably could have went pro. Yes. That's what I'm saying. Is that some of these Wikipedia and other bios that I was going through? We're we're really interesting. Okay..

But it didn't. And I'm glad I enjoyed. I am playing the result. But I'm result in multiple happy. Because I thought it was funny. I enjoyed it. I like Micheal Thomas, and I like this saints team. And I've, you know, what am I supposed to do be mad at him for that? Like, it was it was awesome. Awesome. Listen. Wasn't on. It can be it was a cool celebration. And obviously anyone who remembers Joe aren't thing would think I thought would think it was awesome. And it didn't cost them the game. So I'm gonna forgive him. I'm gonna play the results. All right. You're playing the result. All right. That's fine. That's fine. Seem to feel differently. Well, let's. I have no idea what's going on. I just got a weird. Text but some boy stands on. Yeah. Voice text. I thought I was the only one that voice text. I do it for one person. It's a dude don't even go there, and it's stupid. So I just got a text. Yeah. I didn't think it was. I just found that anybody that pointed out like that's kinda stupid, and it cost you fifteen yards and game. That's still tight and against a really good team in the Rams like why would you do something? That is really simple. Like does that help them and hurt? You does will. Then don't do that thing. And I wasn't. And then it turned into this thing where it's like, oh, you guys out there. You know, having to worry about what you should tell your children focus now. I'm not doing that, man. I'm not doing that. I think it's I just think it's stupid. Okay. Speaking of Troy Aikman because that's kind of where this whole thing. Started historic. Why are you going to do that and laboratory called him out and Libertad shockingly made it about a white black thing, which I was listening to the show. And I just went how the held. I'm like you got there on that. It's like white announcers players like all right good. Let's hear some weekend observations instead, please. So. I've been listening to the Cowboys national network, aka the will Cain show the last couple of. Yes. Yes. I mean, my God is some Cowboys Cowboy's doing it doing today too. So we're we're straying away from from the Mavs, Don. Right. Excellent. So. I want to not take forever on this. But I think I could. But I'm gonna try not to even though I've written it all out. What is the value in somebody like Troy Aikman calling out? Jerry Jones calling out the sun calling out. The fact that GARRETT'S been there eight plus years, he's been in three playoff games. He's got a winning record. But it feels stale. The stories always been that Jones likes a guy like Garrett in place more so than a guy like Parcells learns less than after Jimmy, and after parcels he doesn't want those guys he wants Dave Campo wants Chan Gailey, by the way, go back and look at the chain Gail years. Those are good years. But if Troy Aikman saying tear it down and doesn't mean the owners leaving. Okay. But bringing in outside GM, and again, if I'm Jerry Jones, I may go, hey, you know, what you guys can beat up on me. And all the talk shows all the time. And I haven't won as much of the plaza probably should. And we're the Dallas Cowboys. I like doing though being charged for the roster because it's my bleeping team. And I don't know that. I'd fall anybody for wanting to do that even that super frustrating for the rest of Dallas fans, and especially Jones because he's so out there's a public figure the blowback on him is going to be ten times greater than these other guys. Okay. So if Troy Aikman were to then be named in John Lynch, John Elway role as the guy to fix this whole thing. I don't know that it would work, but I don't know enough..

"And we've constantly fall into this trap of. And I think a lot of it and the NFL is coaching to maybe not in the NBA. But I think we follow this trap of thinking. Okay. Well, this guy in three years it's going to be a top five player. That's their only five of those guys. Right. So it's not it's not always realistic to think that the trajectory is going to be the same for everyone. The quarterback called you just made his great. I just went through QBR thirty two of qualified. So it's not just the thirty two. More than thirty two guys have started. But these are the thirty two qualifiers the last onto three four five the last five quarterbacks in QBR are these five quarterbacks Baker Mayfield. Brutal. He li- manning. Josh Rosen Sam darnold, Josh Allen. The four rookies in Eli manning. Right. That's not the Eli. So what do we do when darnold start of the year against the lions? Oh my God. Look at this. When Baker then beats darnold coming in relief, Cleveland, they were right took them number one. And here's the I'm not even dogging any of these guys. I'm just pointing out that number. I mean, Alan probably has the most likely bus factor out of any of the guys in that group. But statistically for yours. Five guys the guys that were taken in the first round, not including them are. So I think what you just said is a great example of kind of what I was saying with these NBA guy. So I don't know if that means come February. I'm just gonna start blasting to took any better. But I just I personally need have less hope. A lot of guys I've been I've been there on with towns, maybe even into last year. Like, I I'm with you. I've. Would you have in the contract? And do we haven't even gotten to Wiggins Wiggins. I just watch a lot of these games. And I go, oh, wait weakens is going to be that guy that we thought like in the second year was going to take that leap. We thought he did the first half of the season. And now, you go, okay. He got that contract and things you can't not pay them. Maybe that needs to be challenged to because you go. All right, cool. I lose the Wiggins asset that could be part of something else for nothing because I want to I want to believe that he's he's actually a two maybe even three maybe he's the Canadian Paul George. I think at this point. They would they would want that prefer that Canadian Paul George yet. I mean, if he ends up being Paul, George, that's I mean, I don't know that that whole timber team to me is is kind of a mess in some of Jimmy Butler fault to me. And he maybe he's just too hard on these young guys. And they don't see, you know, see eye to eye. But I think part of it is just they just thought these guys Wiggins and towns would grow more than they have. Of course. But then you go all right as Butler stunning there. You know, you can't sit there and say Wiggins and towns need veteran leadership bring in Butler, and then you know, this is prior to this off season and then sale will last year Butler was too selfish offense like I don't think that's fair. And now Derrick rose hitting threes in going for big number games here as much fun as that is. And I'm happy the Derrick rose have been able to just feel basketball happiness again. Even if he wasn't eating your favorite guy. You know? I think it's just those of us that love hoops. Is there anyone out there going, this sucks? I don't want Derrick rose to to feel good about his basketball again. Like, that's a that's a weird kind of thought place to live in. But is that is that worse for towns and Wiggins, and sometimes I go there during during towns ignoring towns, and then I go, okay. Wait a minute you couldn't post up Kuzina. So I'm supposed to throw it to you again..

"I mean, we know this isn't anything about other than him being a pain in the you know, what and trying to get out there, which I thought the funniest thing was ties Jones when he went to go watch his brother play trae Jones is the point guard for that Duke team. That's insane. He was getting interviewed by law Rutledge. I think and he's like, yeah. Jimmy was supposed to come. And I couldn't get a flight. So Jimmy gave me his plane, and he's he's so selfless except for the part where he's destroying the rest of your team season. Dude. That was an incredible quote, the selflessness of Jimmy Butler giving up a jet which is great while he simultaneously being the worst employee in the NBA. Yeah. I don't want to sit here and say that Jimmy Butler wasn't doing a nice d that's really nice. It seems calculate doesn't it like, I don't know. Yeah. Maybe I don't know. I mean story out like it's it's a win for me. Everything's calculated with him everything is and when he says, I'm just showing up like, he's just become incredibly unlikable. He's he's really unlikable guy for the season. And I give Mark Jackson credit because I would I'd say that Jackson on a broadcast and the past has had a tendency to kind of defend the players all the time. And I don't know if that's because he expects to be a coach again soon, you know, it's just safer that way, he wouldn't be the first guy to ever do it. But he he was critical Butler last night. So could you by Jackson? Can I throw something else at you that you didn't expect to hear today? Go ahead. Excited. Are you trade? Are you intrigued? Just double checking it because the numbers could have dipped after last night's loss, but a Sacramento. Look they're sneaky good because they're six and five and let's go through their losses jazz. No problem there. They did give up a million points to the pelicans. And the second game member when they're giving up all these points, and you're like, wait a minute. What's going on the beat the thunder who were kind of weirdly, but Westbrook's in and out and they won last night against Cleveland. That wasn't easy. Paul George to do a whole nother Paul George thing. But I'm not sure here's here's one authorized tweeted this out last night unfair to rip the Ola depot trade because the depot that was traded to the Pacers isn't close to like what the guy is now. So even taking out the bonus part and forgetting the contract like that trade was absolutely destroyed by the media, and I had NBA front office as make fun of me when I said, it's probably the best you could do for George. They look at depots contract. That's terrible lovable. Let me think let me think back to this. Ola depot. For George was was destroyed. Okay. Everybody made fun of the Pacers. And so I'm not even counting that part in. I guess I'm just sick of watching Paul George and expecting to be different because it's never going to be different..

"I've got none of that. I have just sheer determination. And I almost threw it down. I go, man. I just feel spry today. Even my knees never feel like they're gonna work, and they have this slow crunching thing that sounds a little bit of like smoothie king look at New Orleans reference, smoothie king because I just left. There's anybody in the history of mankind dunk for their first time after h forty I gotta wonder. I almost threw it down. I go I could do this. I think I could do a real six-week intense explosion thing here, which would probably hurt me five years from now probably in two. Yes. Start ankle weight in and around. But I go. All right. So I'm I'm basically right there. I actually think it's mental now more than physical because I've just never done it and. I think we need to talk to Guinness because is there ever been somebody that dunk for the first time at forty three. I and this is all steroid-free lean. I wonder if anyone ever went to Guinness and been like, hey, is there a record of people for the first time post forty that? Actually may be headed gory that would be the Guinness record. They'd be like, well, we don't know when the first dunk non dunker happened. But we know that you're the only one that's ever asked the right now that's a record. Chuck it up to a win. Well, I haven't dunked yet memory hung on the rim in canal was annoyed. He was that was that was stupid. And he was kinda right? But I think he was more annoyed because I could still hang on the rim, and he couldn't aid proud. He would be guy to put accolades on after that point. And then try to dunk because you saw he saw you do as well. I I'm a better athlete that Ryan obviously, it was a pro baseball. Nothing bothered him more than when I be and all of our athletic stuff. He probably really tried after that to dunk at some point. Which remember when I won the accuracy football contest didn't go over. Well. And then he said that we hadn't started yet. Yeah. What do you mean that it hasn't started? Not the best loser. He just. Then the marshmallow golf ball thing where I got on the first one in all right that killed them that killed him. And I just got to walk away. And then I that horrible wrong sneakers game three that was brutal. So tired. All right, though. Yeah, we have done anything. I had some minor thoughts. I watched all the Lakers T wolves last night. This Derrick rose stuff is not granted the Lakers one. So that was cool. I don't wanna spend a ton of time of the Lakers. But there grows went for thirty one and apparently can shoot threes now missing that last one, but he seventy nine, but I want to throw out something that I don't know if anybody's picked up on yet the Jimmy Butler, log ready for this. It games. He hasn't played. He played the opener and then Cleveland. He didn't play at Dallas play the Pacers at Toronto Milwaukee played against the Lakers, then didn't play against Utah then played against Golden State. Then didn't play a Portland play. The last two games in LA. I'm gonna go ahead and throw out this theory that Butler is only gonna play the big market games when he can. And then when he rest come back and play in that smaller market. So will there be a New York Brooklyn Boston LA, Dallas Houston? Well, he did sit Dallas. All right. I guess I just said that I think there's going to be something there where it may not be one hundred percent. But there's going to be like a weird selfish Jimmy Butler part that I'm early on here where I think there's certain markets. It's not about him..

"Your question was prior to the break in your vast knowledge, both players as analysts can you think of a quarterback that had the happy feet that that kind of tucked it under a little too quickly and felt more comfortable outside the pocket on the run and making plays with his feet, then inside right? Similar to what we've seen for Mitchell. So far and did any of those guys turn it around and become more of a Jim Miller on you? Because I know Jim got absolutely screamed at for making the comparison. But a guy that I don't think still be brought this up the other day. And I think it's it's a good question. And and we're going to try to connect with Steve Young to see what his evaluation is of of Mitchell. And I would probably say Steve Young as a guy. That looked and felt more comfortable on the move. Improvising than he did in the pocket. But then Steve found his way. And obviously it was a hall of fame quarterback. Steve Young could run from anywhere in the pocket outside the pocket on top of the pocket underneath about whatever. Steve was was a hall of Famer. I would say guys, Pat, though, seriously, you can exist for a while. I think that that RG three. I mean, you mentioned his name at the break is a good example of a guy that boy he looked. But then guys start you get on the edge guys start really, you know. Giving you the business and at some point you get pinned in the pocket and be able to. You have to learn how to play from.
