Have you ever ordered an uber The day before to pick you up for the airports Queen Do you know there's like a $15 charging you a $15 charge? Yes, to order in advance. Um I never knew that and I'm like, Why did it cost so much to get there? But not to get home. Like it costs 40 something dollars to get to the airport. But it only cost $22 to get home. So they were charging me. $15. Are you sure? Yes, I am. Did it say $15 plan ahead charge? Yes. You lying? No. Do you want me to prove it? Because sometimes it can be just based on time. "Welcome to the forty eighth episode of warriors awkward, the San Francisco Chronicle's NBA podcast. I'm your host words beat writer Connor turnout, and damned joined by sports columnist Scott Osler to discuss the odd state of affairs for this team. Golden State has lost six of its past ten years. And none of those defeats are worse than Sunday's would have fumbled. A with sixteen point first quarter lead to fall Phoenix for the first time in nineteen meetings with the playoffs little more than four weeks away. In the words, get things back on track for the games that matter most, Scott, I tried to answer that Bush. I'll have our conversation right after the break. I am Susan's lesser Oakland. A's beat writer for the chronicle. And I'd love it. If you've listened to my podcast as plus attack. The players coaches executives and others around the team every week. You'll get on field analysis and off the field insight. Do you know, which as player lost twenty pounds on a diet of donuts? You would if you've been listening to as plus join me every week wherever you get your podcast as plus. Scott, author is the chronicles award winning sports columns. We caught up after warriors availability. Monday to try to understand. What exactly is ailing the back-back NBA champions? Scott. Thanks for joining me in my humble, bud. We were fresh off warriors practice where the warriors had what they call a get what you need day, which basically just means as common optional workout, no formal practice. So players were obligated to speak to us all the only person we talked to was Steve Steve tacos for while about a range of subjects. There's no shortage of things to talk about right now this team ever adult day fresh off that loss last night against against the sun's worst team in the west. What are your big takeaways are now Scott, well, the one takeaways we didn't get what we needed today we needed to talk to drain on green to get his take on the situation was Kerr. But my take is that. These are trying times, and they got some issues to they're facing the warriors doing and if they don't get him cleaned up. They're going to be trouble. I'm saying they're they're doomed and everything's fallen apart. But they definitely have some issues. I think Kerr's admitting that and so it'd be interesting to see how they face, and it's it's for us on the outside for us observers and writers and so forth. It's great theater and drama. So bring it on. Yeah. As writers you all you can really ask for is storylines this season. There's been no shortage of storylines. I guess you know, as an observer teams one was around the team every day. I really do feel like there's something off with this team right now. There's a weird vibe. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what it is. I could speculate, but I'm not in the business of speculation. But you know, I someone who I know isn't around the team every single day, but you're around them enough to get a sense for you know, how players feel and how the the team is interacting with each other. A what do you think going on right now? Well, there's a lot of different things. It's it's certainly the big picture is not the big happy family, and everybody's lovey-dovey and everything like it was like say four years ago the first couple years at least Steve Kerr, and the current dynasty thing is definitely some stuff going on and foreign breakdown. Kevin Durant is a factor because he's kind of you seems like he's kind of distant or. Discontent unhappy and Steve Kerr's admitted that that's the case somewhat and DeMarcus cousins, as is you know, we know he's a quirky guy. Anyway, and he seems unhappy with some things and the fact that he is not fitting in perfectly and making the team automatically a lot better is got to be weighing on him. So those two of the factors and the fact that, you know, Steph curry is shooting slum, and and just when you add all these things together, you get some strange strange drama, including Draymond green. Not happy with the way things are going. Yes. So to kinda in case you've been living under rock warriors fan. I you've probably priority. You probably already know what's going on. But late in the game last night. Seve Kerr was talking during a team huddle during the time out to assistant coach Mike Brown. And basically said I'm so f ING. I'm so effing tired of drama and video that was caught by multiple TV cameras and win credibly viral, very quickly dredging up the whole narrative of what's what's up with Stephen dream on because they have a history you remember February two sixteen in the locker room in Oklahoma City dream on was upset that Kerr was questioned his shot selection and had to be had to be torn apart. You know had to be held back from from attacking Steve in the locker room in. It was so bad apparently that yes PIN later reported that Oklahoma City police was on hand, and they thought they were gonna have to intervene. So and then obviously earlier this season Stephen Bob Myers, decide to take the relatively unprecedented. You know, move to suspend DRAM because they were so upset with. How he handled that on court argument with with Kevin Durant? So you gotta wonder is this just something that you can brush under the rug is it's not really mean anything any normal frustration. Or is this the sign of something more concerning when obviously Curtin do this on purpose? So it, but I think this is great irony because Draymond is getting a taste of his own medicine is drain on is his big thing is always been look. I'm a fiery guy say what I say. What's on my mind is speak my mind, I'm leader in. That's that's the way I'd do it. And if you don't like it if you don't like the way too bad. Well, now he's faced with somebody else. Giving him a taste of of that dream on medicine even occur. Didn't do it intentionally. And so we'll see if Draymond can't accept it in that in that way. You know, rather than than than bristling and saying coach me, I don't like to go Jeannie more weekend. Be together. Just say like, okay. I understand because that's the way. I am. Mm two we're both fiery guys in a moment of fashion. He spoke up and said, he was he he he couldn't effing put STAN me anymore. So, but the interesting thing now, it'd be see how how both parties react we saw Steve Kerr reacted. He basically said which I think is to his credit. He basically said, yes, that's what I said. I he didn't say that somebody words, but he admitted that that that he said it, and you know, that's the way it has now. Everything's caught on on video and you can't avoid that. Now, we'll see how on that handles the whole situation. That'll be really interesting. I mean, the reality is that they have so much fun of them right now or hitting the stretch run of the regular season. Obviously, you know, then you have the playoffs in the pursuit of third straight title. And one thing that Steve talked at length about today was look like this. This is tough. You're seeing how are this is? It's not easy. There's a reason why a lot of teams don't win three straight titles. Not has done it since the early two thousand acres, and there's been some good teams. You know, Spurs teams Celtics teams Lakers teams since since those teams and is just because not only is the complacency factor. A real thing in climbing up hill Garin in year out, but guys might get sick of each other personalities might wear on each other. You know, there's competing interests there's contracts, you know, that are coming up there. There's a lot of things going on. And you remember better than I do. I think the ninety eight but was it ninety eight bowls that that the final year that bulls dynasty where they won a title. But everyone kind of knew that this was the last hurrah and a pretty much fell apart right after that Steve remembers that very well. And I don't think this is the the new ninety eight bowls, but they're dealing with some of the same issues and and curse point today. Is that? The he'd look back in those ninety eight bowls, and as we look back as fans and writers and so forth. We look back. Oh, the balls. Of course, they went a year. They had Michael Jordan, had Scottie Pippen. They were dynasty. They'd be Utah in the finals. And Steve Kerr looked at it like, oh my God. It was I can't believe we scrape that thing out. We just had to pull everything out of ourselves to win that we had Scottie Pippen with his back and spasms, we're seventeen to Utah in the first quarter in Utah. And it was desperate times. Man. I it was so amazing. We pull that out. And that was so we were so happy afterwards. And if you put yourself in that spot or listen to curb, you realize that he's right that this stuff is really really hard. You know, like the first year, maybe they first season with Kerr. They sort of made it look easy, and they came out of nowhere and all this apprised everybody. Now, they don't they don't sneak up or surprise anybody. Other teams are playing warrior start basketball Muna ball around playing mortar tech defense everyone's catching up with him. It's like, the, you know, the hounds are on their trail, and it it's very tough. You don't have to overdramatize it to see that that it's it's a very tough road. They've got. And if they win this one like Steve says when they poured the champagne that really gonna pour the champagne because they're gonna earn it. Yeah. Yeah. No. I mean, if there have been times, I remember the first the first year, I covered the wires, which was Durant's first year sixteen seventeen I remember covering that finals in when they won the title and feeling like it was really anti-climactic because I think it came to easy. You know, they steamrolled through the playoffs sixteen in one. And I think they, you know enjoyed it. You know? Obviously they're happy to win. But it wasn't that euphoric. You know, amazing Yale once shining moment type moment that you're used to seeing in the movies and last year wasn't that either. I think you know, because the only issue they seriously had to deal with was their complacency. But this year, there's so many different factors. Some of which are internal some of which are external. I think the league has gotten better. I think the talent divide has tightened. I think there are some teams particularly in the east that could seriously threaten the warriors in a seven game series. Toronto Boston
