Nike CEO John Donahoe's Lessons on Servant Leadership

"What star. John rains that i am most associate with you. Which is servant leadership. And i'd love if you could describe your philosophy on servant leadership especially try to conceptualize it for much smaller organizations. What does it mean to serve leader as a ceo of a bunch of ceo's around the table how should they think about how that philosophy conform away they run their business so when i talk about servant leadership. It's frankly the the way. I learned to lead because i actually learned the lead in partnership a ban where you aren't really empowered to do anything to you have to earn the respect and the followership of others. You guys don't have that as founders. But i do think you'll find that. Many of the best leaders exhibited the principles servant leadership. And i just say how do i serve serve. The purpose of the organization serve the customers served. The employees serve the communities in which we operate in a jim collins called at level five leadership other people call from things. But it's when someone it's not about the leader it's about what it is. We are trying to accomplish right and some of the antithesis of what's hot silicon valley at different times the narrative. Always around the all-powerful founder. They're all powerful leader. And i think there's actually very few examples where that actually great sustainable companies come out of that my leadership role model for large parts of my career with phil jackson of the chicago bulls. Now it'd be steve kerr for your younger and would always struck me. He was able to do is get people who actually were better than he was klay. Together he got michael jordan. Scottie pippen dennis. Rodman caster characters to win six championships. It got shack kobe to play together. You look at you. Look at steve kerr the warriors right. Now he's getting. Somehow he's getting steph curry klay thompson and kevin durant andrew mongering all vying to something greater and they win i view with how do you build high performance teams of top talent to win and servant leadership is part of it.

"We're still talking about the fall out of the draymond green kevin durant situation the show. They did in which they both said. Hey it's bob myers and steve kerr's fault why. The dynasty broke up because of the way they handled our disagreement that we had in two thousand eighteen as time has gone on like you see this look draymond. Green is a smart guy. He knows the impact of his words. Is this dream on pulling james harden going you know what whatever conversation we've had the at the olympics when everybody's hanging out. Hey i want out golden state now. Because i want to get someplace else. 'cause you're blowtorch and your gm at your coach something. That was three years ago. I i've not heard tentatively that that was the purpose behind what he said and there remains the possibility that it was simply. I wanna clear my name. And i wanna do something. That's explosive on my first podcast as i prepare myself for my post my post playing career. i do. I will tell you that it did not sit well at all with the warriors and it shouldn't that from either. Yeah from either one of them and it it. It does undermine their authority and moving forward trying to trying to put this team together.

Steve Kerr: Kevin Durant 'More Gifted' Than Michael Jordan

"Steve. Kerr says kevin durant is more getty. Take it away. Then michael jordan so kerr coaster for three seasons as we know golden state warriors the nba finals all three years. That katie played for them. They won two titles. He was the finals. Mvp in both championships and had amazing performances. Now they could've probably pulled off a three peat if if it wasn't for durant's that that obviously achilles pop it on him against the raptors final season. Now steve kerr also play. Played with michael jordan won two titles with mj with the bulls so his perspective on this obviously is something that is interesting because he played with jordan but coach durant and listen to what he said nbc bay area about kevin durant and his comparison to jordan is the most talented basketball player on earth If not of all time. Honestly he's just so gifted played with michael jordan. And and and i know i think he's more gifted i really do. I mean it saying something but kevin is a different entirely different breed. I mean six eleven With guard skills unlimited three point range passing blocking at the rim. It's just stunning and watching him. This year was really really ratifying to see

N.H.L. Fires Referee for Comment on Penalty Call

"Well the nhl has announced that. Tim peel has been fired immediately. He will never work. Nhl games now in the future. Colin campbell announced it this morning. By saying in part there is no justification for his comments no matter the contexts or its intention in the nhl will take any and all steps necessary to protect the integrity of our game. This is incredibly overzealous on part of the nhl. What do you think yes a little much. I mean i get why they're doing it because you just don't want to see. They have an agenda. Coming in like things are predetermined. I mean you. And i both know what he's saying. Is i want to keep the game from getting out of control. So we're setting the tone early. I mean that's that's what ref do but you're not supposed to acknowledge it and i think it's just they don't need to fire him though like you know. And maybe they could. They could quietly bring him back but it seemed like they were making him a scapegoat for this. I got a. I got an email from a friend of mine. Who's a referee. And i gave you the name. Because he's still rafts yup but here's what he said. I've officiated thousands of basketball games in my life. Tim peel said what every single official has thought. During a many times we just either keep it to ourselves or speak about it to our partner at halftime when it's only us in a room in a basketball game. Let's say the foul count is one side. Maybe it's six. Oh the calls were all one hundred percent correct and the foul count should be six. Oh if not more we can look up at the scoreboard and see the count and we also gear up from the coach. Who said he's had six called against his and none of four forum and if there's a break in the game wrestled get together. And if they're veteran officials yeah they will say they need to call one against the team with zero fouls the next time. That team comes anywhere close to committing a foul. That's the one that's going to get called if the files were six. Oh against them. There's no way we'd call that foul but here comes a whistle. Both coaches know. It's coming to and this guy. My friend is exactly right. Yeah i for the initial shock time gambling going on here further. Okay the rest being mic'ed up. There's a lot of players that we i know about the nba. They have players are miked. Up and coaches are miked up. There's somebody who they don't all go on the broadcast. I mean there is a feed where the unedited sound this. Somebody leaks it but mostly the only stuff that the the broadcast air has been sort of pre-approved somebody from the league. That's sitting there listening to it saying okay. We use that use this. This'll be good juicy and a years. Do you remember when the when the warriors were playing the rockets and steve kerr was there was a there was audio of steve. Kerr saying something about. Kevin durant like kevin needs v or aggressive or. I can't remember what he said but it was something like he needs to. He can't just take over there. You know whatever it was and it got through like we they aired it on the broadcast and then it became a thing game. Steve kerr got asked about it and stuff and he was rightly pretty upset. Because that's the exact kind of thing that you know the this whole thing of biking coaches and players up. It's based on trust. It's based on this idea that you know you're going to kind of protect me from something like that happening. Right of of in the moment and the emotions of the game coach yells at star player star player yells at so teammate. Whatever which is literally what happens in every single game if that gets taken out if that gets blown up that quote gets goes everywhere like then it becomes a problem for these coaches and players. And they're not gonna let themselves get mike up

"We are here. On the heels of a big announcement. Yeah. Steve Nash Future Hall of Famer. Future Hall. Of famer is the coach new coach of the Brooklyn Nets. What's going on listen I? Think it's it's it's a good. It's a good pairing with him and Katie. You know as well as anybody that there was a pre existing relationship Steve was a player development consultant for Golden State. He spent a Lotta time with Kevin Durant is I would talk to him over the years about his experiences. In golden state like not just learning from Steve Kerr and those guys who specifically he was working within. Golden State and it always Katie was always you know like one of the names that he said a lot what I thought he'd be working with the guard so that relationship and then you sean marks played with him in Phoenix. Tens of thousands of people rally against Lukashenko in Belarus

"Where Can Belarus President Turn Now? Thousands of people were back on the streets protesting this weekend still angry at what they believe was a rigged presidential election President Lukashenko who claimed as he returned to power with an eighty percent approval rate responded by flying over the protesters wearing riot gear with a rifle slung from his shoulder. Well, drained over is L. Editor of Belarus Anna Leasing at the University of Brain and I'm delighted to say she joins us on the line now Auger a very warm welcome to monocle twenty four. These absolutely bizarre scenes of President Lukashenko yesterday. Well. Yes. I was actually also quite as to see you know him banning public with a gun and also his fifteen year old son campaign him so to say so it's the definitely assigned for me that he he's kind of knocked children confidence in front of the people who through testing by his residence, and it's also not you know not that Jerry. Addict from me because the protest is peaceful, protesters will not trying to receive this residents in the state needs. said the wall spread the information that there was some attempt to seek the? Residency so it's quite an emotional psychological reaction from him. I would say and will. Nobody. that. So it's also very strong sign that there is now readiness of from from the official from the state site for any kind of luck that you know this new to build coordination committee by Dehaan Oscar and she team is is trying to do initiate and I think everybody most notably people. In Belarus itself have been absolutely taken aback by the brutality of the reaction by the the Lauren forces to the protesters and the fact that Alexander Lukashenko was was dressed up in riot gear suggests that he doesn't have anywhere to go other than a violent approach. Yes I would also I would also expects it. You know what targeted repressions and they're ready started last week and they continued this week. So what what would serve now is definitely not base wave of unprecedented repression that we. Saw Three days and nights after the elections but still there are targeted repressions and against. Most active people are also criminal case has been initiated against the newly built coordination committee and people. People are invited to some talks with KGB officials until also people actually also bill will try to strike there actually threatened. By the direction openness of the state owned enterprises that they would lose their jobs and so on. So observe already targeted pressure on people, but this wave is still not to the tide because you know. So what international reaction was so the state drives, you know just show from the one handed, it's not ready for the data from the one hand there is the rest of. You know not not to let this protests spread. Within the country how much do you think that's what the foreign observers of said about what's been happening in Belarus for the last couple of weeks is actually forming any decision made by Alexander Lukashenko at the moment. Well I think that it will quite an important aim has been achieved ready and that we actually we have understood that he's not legitimate within the society right within the boat society and I think also problem was that he really did not understand that. Shortly after the elections or before the elections so and. Actually. I think that the reaction was not is at least that. He and his circles really have the distended. Okay. He doesn't have any majority in society, but it has not led so far to his readiness for dialogue just in the all the way he kind of supports the security structures in internal, Misteri Ministry and actually he even gave you know about three hundred medals to those who are actually responsible of for for this incident violence. So he kinds of stresses that the security two structures military is. Actually the most important pillar his powerful for now for the moment, the Steve Kerr show is joining us now he's policy and advocacy. Directorate. Freedom from torture and author of St Spirit Steve. Welcome. Thanks for joining us. Hey On monocle twenty, four Olga a moment ago mentioned the fact that the secret police is still called the KGB I mean, what does that say about the level of influence at Russia's still has in terms of the way that Belarus's going and whether Russia just going to sit this out. Yes I mean I either it reflects influence of Russia, which is August is certainly, very great or it's just almost bizarre retro element to to better under Lukashenko. He doesn't mind thinking in those terms I think it is going to be. So Russia will certainly be an important factor and but at the same time Mosca really doesn't want to be. Getting, further involved in in a very direct since that's going to be difficult for Russia as well. So I think that Lucas. Is playing a very difficult game. If he was giving small confessions, I think he might have some a little bit more success in some homage to blunt things but so far at least the violence has had absolutely opposite effective people become more and more angry the fear obviously quite rightly the last Sunday was absolutely crucial. I would argue that the US huge threats of on ahead of Sunday hoping that people. Would back off and stay at home and actually it was a big rally than ever. So not particular face off. There's no question that Lukashenko loss what happens next we'll still see I'll steve has suggested that Sunday was a pivotal moment some people waiting for what is described as a tipping point when an event causes things to go one way or the other would you say that Sunday was part of that? Tipping Point. Demon this Sunday last Sunday. To Sunday. The Sunday. Just gone when tens of thousands of people came out onto the streets to set by a threat the first Sunday directly after the elections. Yes. I it just completely I mean people never any. Okay. What we're talking about batteries and Ballard who's says, Chris it's not the first Sunday that actions pulses side will have to admit that it also not to the extent that people actually being tortured eating the prisons will have also. took a beast fag, but it's for the first very time that such vast majority of people. So it with their own is is of their families or friends in stone. So you can imagine how many are nets were the strategy when they're where our seven seven thousand arrests. So it's it's quite a big part of the country said it's really I would agree it had an opposite effect and it's also for the first time that you know this special. GRANITZ or gas or a also rubber bullets on there were actually used against own population. It never existed in the history of Belarus in October election protests, people widget shocked and I think it was a shock from the both sides because the state net expected to such mass protest before also before three weeks before the elections would be solved by. About two to five or even six percent of local population came to to railways with Hannele. It's also unprecedented thing was kind of shock from both sides and of course, people people were also by this eighty percent because nobody really believes that anymore I mean. People also really did not quite believe that before I, would say people heading out some kind of feeling that president steelhead had a majority maybe not eighty percent maybe fifty five, maybe sixty but this feeling was there and this style with completely different. So quiet in Jersey, you know quite a big part even I think I would say the majority of people just didn't believe that he actually has any kind of fifty plus and that was the problem that we still have this eighty percents I think people would just. People were just humiliated by that of course, activate shortly afterwards by this unprecedented wave refreshing stave when we look to the further history of batteries, which is being written right now when considering what sort the former eastern bloc countries of have seen in the last three decades. When regime ends, it's generally quite a peaceful affair actually the deleted. is of removed from office. This is unlikely to happen here. Isn't it? Well, I mean, sometimes it has been an sometimes it hasn't been. So when I was a journalist working for the independent, I was the East Europe during the eighty nine revolutions and also join me the fall of Milosevic Milosevic in Serbia and cover dot and there a number of those leaders were ready to use very significant violence and what I'm fascinated by very moved by what was seeing with the courage. A better as protesters today is to see that they are defined vence in the same ways that work very effectively for example, in East Germany where people were threatened with extraordinary for someone particular day in Leipzig in. October nineteen eighty-nine the fact that so many people came out meant regime which had publicly declared its loyalty to force actually back down in Romania I very much. Hope it weren't turn into remain, but we do already see that there are splits within Belarus at the riot police remain loyal. The moment we've seen a number of police units splits off. We've seen a lot of establishment figures putting off in the same way as also does something happened in in Ukraine and the Orange Revolution, and once you see security forces a different security forces splitting away going like enough already as August said, I mean the eighty percent. Claim was was absurdly insulin and the degree of the virus even Grayson seen before and I think this is really interesting. It might end up in huge volumes but I think Lukashenka would lose very very badly that to happen I think it's a regional issue. How if you like bluntly how crazy you are Milosevic. For example, he survived on one occasion ninety seven by giving some concessions and then re clamping down and people just got tired and went back when you use real violence I think it's really difficult. It was a great book written by Richard couple the Polish off I was written about the Iranian revolution. Charlotte. Charlotte's but very much reflected his own country Poland which forty years ago. This month solidarity kind of a huge opposition movement didn't call itself opposition challenge the regime and unthinkable circumstances laying Brezhnev for the very reactionary Russian leader was still in power. They managed to become successful and he said the moment where people stand in front of eastern threatens violence, the pre curry signing backstops, and instead someone stands there and doesn't back down he said, this is where the revolution begins, and after that in effect is the exact the precipice. If you're to violence, you make people more angry if you start making concessions than people go. We have lost our fear and in a sense the certain moment difficult to prediction events but describable. There is no way back to the regime and it still seems a little bit early to say but I think it's very, very difficult to see how Lukashenko come back from this. If he steps back more gently than, of course, it will be peaceful. The protests have been fun tastic peaceful and very, very consciously so far the extended even cleaning up rubbish because I really vary consciously very civic. Minded. So he might just go off and disappear off to Russia for example, and as it will live happily ever after but he tries to bring out all of the guns. Then I think you know all bets are off but I don't think it was a good ending for him whichever way it goes Steve Crozier and Elga agenda over there. Thank you for joining us on monocle twenty four.

"Like we're in the playoffs they're still just like our old deal with this later it again it gets everybody talking there's fan interest I'm not saying that I'm for fights in in games or or that you should purposefully have moments like this but essentially you know what Steve Kerr did he got mad and he swore all we don't want that in sports no cussing and no getting emotional what what what is it that he did where the league has to say you know what we can not have that no no arguing in a league that is based on competing for which is physical argument the whole thing is based on getting mad at each other we love dross talk so is Steve Kerr's essentially trash talks the RAF find thrown out of the game one Kiki Vandeweghe sits in his office and looked at the video on twenty five thousand dollars which goes where the NBA cares charities or something like that I mean the only good thing about what I'm talking about it says let guesses that although I'd love to see you like what's actually follow the Dow here where where where does this end up but it's just an odd thing that made it that we've we've got a we've got a not only throw everyone out maps five but that we have to follow it up a day or two later and act like it still matters act like it had any effect on anyone and act like anybody in this process gives our rep about twenty five thousand dollars I do know one person that actually got mad about that at its warriors related I'm sorry and I think it's it's been long enough ago we we tell the story I'm Marc will show can be are one oh four five and six eighty seven Cisco these sports leader grad with us I go back to the calls here in just a second so this is back when I was doing a show with Michael Thompson Klay's dad and years ago clay got into some shoving match I don't even remember this is way back early in his career like he he was an established big time player but but he wasn't yeah I wasn't what he has now yeah the warriors were what they were yet but it was clear they were there on the way up in there you know they were there a playoff team and he got into some some shopping bad shot or now trash talk somebody might as well get somebody for a second not a really big deal but the next day I think you got off bein thirty five thousand dollars and the harm Michael comes in and he is just on one man he is live it and I'm like what what what's the problem and he's like you see one place got fined and I'm like you know who your own in fighting the NBA thirty five thousand dollars was why are you so upset five I mean he's screaming is my not even his money although he had his job going on the show for quite awhile that that Michael handled all of clay's money in that he gave clan allowance it was Michael sense of humor but it's so dry that nobody was really sure if you meant it or not and it finally got to clay like somebody actually asked him in the warrior locker room your dad handle the money and give you an allowance in his life no what so my thought to come in the last days like in America they call me a matinee there's not mine can't do that joke anymore like all right the only way that's the way Michael is he's really like he's like thirty five thousand dollars and I'm like okay I understand when you put it that way that's it's a lot of money but but is thirty five thousand dollars thirty five thousand dollars if it means that that month you only make two million instead of two million thirty five thousand dollars like it I don't know you do you do call your loved ones they were gonna have to cut back we're really going to have to come back this month I got fined thirty five thousand dollars I was probably before his his next big contract which has now turned into another even bigger contracts so who knows but it it just always makes me laugh like Steve Kerr I use five is that these these five I don't need them even notice of twenty five K. is missing in the Jack do you get a check I'm sure it's direct deposit but did you maybe get a receipt in the mail the even open it I'm thinking now I'm thinking now all right away can be are I just want to get that off my chest I think it's very funny the way in sports we handle getting upset with wraps I see that as fundamentally part of sport I see that fundamentally as I'm something that we accept as normal it's one thing if you want to go into a press conference afterward and make it personal but you don't really see guys do that but let me give an example let's say let's say Steve Kerr had not gotten thrown out last night let's say he just voice displeasure a man gotten back to his chair and onward we go and then you get into the locker room or or or the press room or whatever afterwards and so much as a Steve what what we upset about and he goes well okay so here's here are the details of what I saw that I did not like I thought that was a an incorrect call they will find you for that why what's wrong with that I've never understood it we work in sports radio people show up the next day in M. and critique things that people do all the time we'll find it's so strange to me that that there is this this hierarchy where the referees are need to be held above it no disrespect is one thing so if your if your fire bombing an official or RAF or an arm pyre fine throw them out but this idea that we can't even share our thoughts on what took place in a game afterward is is very bizarre to me and I think if we transfer our conversation to baseball this is actually putting the future of umpires in danger like I don't know how much longer were even going to have them and if I were invited which I won't be but if I were invited into an umpire's union meeting just like Hey would like some outside thoughts on you know we need a consultant for how we're doing and what we could do better it's a you guys are going to attitude your way right out of existence because the technology is all there the desire is there for robot arms balls and strikes to be called by a little red or green light and the I don't think without far off from it but I think it's being accelerated by the way the baseball umpires even more so for sure Marcel then an NFL RAF or an NBA rough there is this holier than thou attitude where somebody questions of a strike on the field I mean the mask comes off and it's that they look at you like there you question my I stretch my strikes on what do you like you just talked about their mom do the balls come in at a hundred miles an hour you missed it I'm not I'm not this is a personal you there and it's like they are soul offended in the NBA you can give them a little bit you know end until you start causing adamant that even have a just to you what you mean you never see that be a route flex their back at drame on like a you did you just question what I said we don't do that here Major League Baseball acts like they're still in little league where do you live it's an eight year old kid and then you're like yeah the sun your age don't go sit down we're not gonna do that here because I'm an adult but but that when everybody's in adult like I was just weird it's fine this for just just disagree Hey all right to screw that up one of the things I'm a mess about mad bomb that bomb have the cachet to where he could do it he could do it again just stare you down stare you down Joe Wessel just stare back and then you know we snot rocket and move on our that's going to be one of the things I miss for sure all right so glad you're with us eight away came BR is the number do we do we hear back from from Jennifer what are we doing we have not yet okay so Jennifer lien chan and David lumbar they both are coming up were all you know we're shuffle in our cars a little bit to see exactly when they're all going to join I'm David likes the as we found out he likes to come on every hour on KNBR so maybe I'll just do both I don't know but Dave along party coming up here shortly Jennifer Lee JM will will hop on as well we'll keep it all with the warriors however there is there is a rumor about the warriors they got thrown out there today and I saw some odd reactions to it so we'll get into that and then keep going on forty Niners in Vikings I think the Vikings weak link could be the exact to people everybody else thinks is their strength and that's Adam "You are part of the blame business. And when you get the result that they got which was the most catastrophic result, you can get you're gonna get criticism from any angle. I agree with him. But I believe that the blame should be spread all over, but Myers doesn't get the scape either just because he was weepy. Well, about Meyer said, put it on me, if you need to, and I don't know who is trying to deflect it away from, but as Dan says probably a whole lot of people and the point is, they're going to get criticized. Either way. I do think the criticism for this the. Most catastrophic way this could have gone is far worse than the what could have been questions that would have followed if he hadn't played now again, we're playing the result here, and that's also much more detrimental to Kevin Durant. Reputation going forward. I've heard people vehemently argued both for and against the fact that he basically gave a pound of flesh for this. This was the sacrifice and the only sacrifice he could've made for people to stop saying he doesn't care about the team. He you know, he was a cupcake for showing up and then he was gonna walk I think those criticism stop now. But at what cost right? And I do think the criticism would have been there for both the team in Katie, if he hadn't played in, of course, here it is now that he's injured. One of the things that I find fascinating about this. Is that the entire culture of sports no matter where it is that you would be looking at it. Everyone was pressuring this guy, the play so much so that I would ask you where was the incentive to not play from anybody anywhere other than Toronto fan. So of course they made this decision. It's the one that they make in the culture of sports all the time when we glorify this stuff. When it doesn't end in injury. Steve Kerr, you know he had the bully. He's back. He sat out. Because he got it into it wasn't a little bit of a boo boo. Come on. Dad. Rarely hear the camman, Dan. My father was leaking spinal fluid. Come on, not a boo. Boo. Do you think they should hold back out Kusa from trae for the Uni Brown? Do you not see what Sports Illustrated just did with Rich Paul where they announced everybody in the league we have the power. Now, this is how we get it. We will get Anthony Davis to the Lakers, because the Lakers are Jennifer Lopez, and it will help Anthony Davis career if they're working that publicly toward getting him there, if they're sort of shadow agency for all things, Lakers. You don't have to trade anything you can wait amount. I understand you'd prefer to have them this year..

"Beer since twenty eleven bring in Reggie Miller, the hall of Famer, I'm curious reg, what you thought of the so-called Jenky defense that Toronto was playing with the box in one on Steph curry actually, pretty brilliant to tell you the truth, because it really stifled and surprise. Steve Kerr in the warriors, and with the injuries mounting for Golden State and really having one legitimate shooter, not necessarily player because bookie was on the floor, but one the shooter on the floor. Why not? And it's surprised, Golden State and the problem was Toronto couldn't make shots at the other end. So their defense was pretty good in box one. They couldn't score at the other end. So if I'm both teams I'm pretty happy about game two for the warriors to, to be able to split regain recapture homecourt advantage being shorthanded going back to the bay. One one, I'm happy if I'm Toronto. I'm saying to myself, we were bigger early we couldn't make shots. Our defense was as good as it's been throughout these play offs. We've gotta find ways to make shots. So I think they're. Feeling pretty good come Wednesday in game three obviously with the scene changing. I think the big question Mark is going to be who's going to be available. And at what strength I mean, the, the injuries are mounting and it's going to be something that's deep Kerr's going to have to really do a good job. I mean, people keep talking about the warriors binch or non-existent bench. I think people were pretty good down the stretch and boogie cousins to do what he did after that kind of layoff was really impressive. I'm curious how he feels today after being out there in a game as opposed to in a practice and how he'll be on Wednesday because it'll be all hands on deck. If you don't have K D, I don't know how healthy clay is going to be an MRI this morning. You know. But at least you're at home, and you know, Golden State will still be favored, I think they're favored by, like six or seven points going back home and throwing kevon looney with a shoulder injury. So it's interesting. You know, you talk about the injuries and all hands on deck. It boogie cousins. This is his chance to shine and for a guy that's never been to the playoffs and to be on the biggest age and have that type of performance with as long as lay over in the injuries. Think about the injuries. He's coming back from I mean, these are significant injuries and to have a fingerprint and to have a say in that game was remarkable. But again, if I'm Toronto, I'm feeling pretty good. I, I really am. I'm not saying that they're going to go into the area and probably still one but he's gotta make shots. They have to make shots. And. As a shooter, I've never really had a hamstring injury. So if you're clay he's saying he's okay, but it affects your movement your rhythm, and as much as Klay place off the basketball and as much running as he does throughout the game that hamstring is going to be tested. How do you explain the third quarter for the warriors, in particular, Steph curry, that's his best quarter of all four quarters? He averages nine points per third quarter in every game. But it is just a coincidence, that Golden State seems to adjust and come out and that third quarter is just like a tidal wave. No, I think if you go back, and you look at the statistics that there quarter has always been the warriors quarters almost like they take two quarters to kind of figure you out, and then they come with the overhand right in the third quarter. So if you go back and you look at, you know, through third. Quarters are probably the best probably along with Houston as think it takes them a while to figure it out. And to going eighteen overrun to start the third in the NBA finals. That's pretty significant. And I think it caught Toronto on their hills. But again it was still a one possession game before you dull knock down that big three so as well as they played in the third quarter..

"Now a little bit. But they still won the game. Slow down a lot a lot. For the last three and a half. They still won the game at the end of the day. And that's because they had a little bit of a cushion with a little bit of a Lee in a never surrendered the lead. And never got even it was a five point deficit there. And then they kind of went up a little bit more than he dropped back down to three in and went up to, you know, so kept going back and forth, but the end of the day, as we said from four or five years ago, collectively as a group, whether it's Livingston, whether it's dollar whether trademark green, all of those guys have done this before without some of those guys on the floor they've won without boogie on the floor. They want without Katie on the floor Klay, obviously has been there to whole time. But he's been outta games at times, because he needed rest or whatever the case is so Steve Kerr the staff they know what to put together in order to score points at, at a time that they need them to win the game. And that's what they were able to do. Steve Kerr's descendant of both pop Steve. Say somebody in these are two men who are famous for pulling the trigger when the stars aren't getting the job done. And so what Steve Kerr's been doing since he's been hired by Golden State Warriors, is not necessarily pulling the trigger and sitting them down when he's dissatisfied, but rather giving all these other players opportunities during the regular season, even in big moments because he knows times like this are gonna come up. So when Michael Jordan was double and the bog kicked because he had been in games all year long. He was ready for that moment in Chicago, obviously playing with playing with pop he knows pop goes sometimes ten deep pull pull the rabbit out of his hand you might going with those ten points come from. Well that guy has been playing fifteen minutes. No manage twenty minutes two minutes throughout the entire season. So he's always ready. Steve Kerr is pretty smart in that a lot of other coaches like perhaps my dantonio. Learn something from that lashed, the car can't just be a hard worker. Why does he have to be smart? Well, he usually is the first and last one out, okay? Sure that's standing. All of the stop hitting buttons. At some point, though, you're going to run out of guys that you can point to, I mean, they're just out of healthy bodies, especially looney looney will be interesting to see what happens with them moving forward. "And he buried at three. I mean they are impossible to kill that. This is an five straight championships time since the sixties Celtics fifty five years ago. Yeah, I mean they're unbelievable. Yeah. They don't get credit as much credit because people say, well, the competition is good. It doesn't matter the competition is they go through everybody. It's a disservice to them to say the competition is in good there, they I would say the competition, just isn't close. Yeah. Not close their great. And as long as they have Steve Kerr, coaching them, and have Klay Steph and Draymond they don't even need Durant to be the favourite now with Durant. They are. Yup. But I'll be there's part of me that wants to see if they could pull this off without K D like I want to rant to stay out is fine. I saw Richard Jefferson say today he would be surprised if Kevin Durant plays in the finals. Right. So that's kind of what I'm hoping for. I want to see if they can do it without one, one arm tied behind. And here's the other thing twenty two consecutive series in NBA record twenty two consecutive playoff series in which they've won at least one game on the road, you know hard. It is to win a road playoff game. And they've done it. Twenty two series in a row. Come on, man. I mean, they they are an absolute machine their top five offense of team. They're five defensive team all there. Guys play better when one of them goes down. They just won a game last night in poor with no boogie, no Durant, and no equa- dollar, who's probably right offensive player. Forget, I mean I don't know why people don't want to give this team, it's do because they are as good as any team we've seen. I don't care if it's. Korea magic Lakers shack Koby Lakers Jordan's bulls. The Spurs with Duncan and Robinson. They could complete. They could play with any of them. Look at look at the numbers, you can't kill him mega money. Okay. Betty, I won money on KEPCO heard. It was cited I've heard it was kinda shady thick. Well, here's what happened. I wanted to bet KEPCO. Yeah. But it was the day of my colonoscopy. So I said that go fine. I far as I know. Vast. I pass for net. But that thing is a pain in the ass literally. So I said to Greg okay, kept gets ten to work the day of it. No. Okay. Kept kiss ten to one. Yeah. Okay. I was going to bet on kept Kabila Gregg, I'll tell you right now, mythical money. I'm betting and kept getting the US open. He's six two one. I'm betting on him. Right now, I'm willing I'm going to bet him on on every major. He's the best golfer in the world. He's he's like, really good. So it was ten to one for KEPCO. Yup. But because of my cool and ask apy by the time we did our first show he'd already played his first round. So Greg kneecapped half of the odds. He said, you give you five. In other words, he was around in any a big lead. Right at a four-stroke lead four starkly. Yeah. But then you almost blew it on Sunday. L E came close to blowing. I even I went and got bupkus even even I tried on wisdom, the plane would crash even with that, even with the five to one. Yup. I was chicken and I only bet three thousand so they went fifteen I'm so far behind you guys. What are the current standings? Grab Mason has seventy seven thousand five hundred you have fifty thousand John's you're up to fifty. You're halfway Mason. Twenty. Seven thousand ahead of me, and I have a hundred sixty one you're one hundred hundred grand Adamy. All right. So all betting against the Rams and the Super Bowl. Sure did about it. All right. But I'm betting kept in the US open. I'm back up to fifty..

"And then they're the backside with, that is, if won't Kim to rent going to a semi three and nineteen why wasn't wrongful Steve Kerr did take that job that said the Knicks job? When I don't recall anybody was saying, was right or wrong about Steve Kerr vice turning down that job, you get paid five million dollars a year for five years in four years. You guide them to a championship in three of those years, and a loss in the NBA finals, one of those years, Mark Jackson, definitely spearheaded, it I'm a big fan of Mark Jackson. He's been my friend for years. I would like to see him head coach, the NBA again, I think he's been blackballed for some reason, I don't understand it. But nothing can take away from the job that Steve Kerr has done because there's something to be said for not messing things up. Phil Jackson gets credit. He was coaching Jordan and Pippen, and then after that he was coaching Kobe shack, but he gets credit. So why can't Steve Kerr? Get credit for not messing it up. Thank you don't get any credit, my I guess my point today is my have done the same thing. He could've. Kerr came in. Right. And he did it. He's doing a good job. But could you feel the same good job with the Knicks while we don't know all we know is this is what he's done just like we didn't know at about Phil until he did it with LA. And even then he took the Kobe shack job, because he was smart enough, not to take some building reclamation project as a job, he said, up there and got copious shack, but I gotta go, I the call. Thank you so much Elias, July. Stephen, they talk to me. How you doing? Mrs Stephen Smith. I'm a question regarding to Lonzo ball and the Los Angeles Lakers and. "It's through the rough and every axes the knows guys like the gray co sows of the NBA, which I'm starting to learn about these guys and who to follow. They all just preach, non stop more that Steve Kerr what's wrong with you? Steve kerr. And then what we found out was that. And let's think about the three levels of awareness, an opponent might have of your offense. One is you've never done this before you. You've waited for it. You know, ballot check style against the ravens a few years ago. There's a certain formation. He's been whole net. You have no idea. You don't know what to do. Does that happen? The NBA for sure. But it's going to be, you know a handful of plays over a short period of time. Other teams you have a chance to look at it you fold them. Maybe you picked up six points. That was a difference in the game that stuff's important. So it's no awareness, surprise. Number two, is your normal team? That plays a normal amount of let's say thir- third of the time you play this offense third, you play this third place. Well over the course of a season, you're going to have a nice chunk of tape on each of the three. So a guy Kerr's come in and look at all three and then there's Houston, and I'm not sure if Houston is just alone in this, it feels like they are they run the same thing, so many times with harden at the focus, and the simplicity of it. Now, you might take the beauties in the supply city and with the Rams, that's the case, for example, where they've only got like eight plays or something. It's all variations on a theme..

"Seven points. And he said this win wasn't just about the splash brothers when we're doubted for baskets the wall. We just go out there and fight the play with heart, and you know, guys like Geruco and Quinn cooked, Jordan bell or whole bench, everyone play tonight, and everyone gave a huge contribution. So was a beautiful thing to be part of and the true pros. And they've been preparing for all year coach Steve Kerr awfully proud. We were actually talking about it in there. You know, it's one of the most satisfying. Victories. We've had in this run. We've we've been been blessed to have all this talent and competitiveness. And and these guys are are they're they're just amazing. So they've won a lot of big games. But this is definitely one of the most one of the most satisfying. We've had on the other side. James harden, had a game high thirty five what a missed opportunity this was but Houston Rockets let an opportunity slip away with not being able to win this game. Of course, there are a lot of a lot of opportunity. Opportunities gate last game between the game one into. Opportunities you end up on the losing side. James Mike was saying that this one's really gonna sting even more than normal. What are you? What are you feeling right now? It always hurts. When your season in knowing that had opportunities. Very very frustrating. Let's say a little bit. You'd be better. Well, they got another season next season. Chris Paul added twenty seven for the rockets who have been eliminated by the warriors and four of the last five postseasons how about some insight. "Because I love that game. I love that series so much, and I've actually got my own conclusions from that game that I wanted to send to the world. Now, here's my audit of their audit. Houston miss twenty seven straight threes during a stretch in game seven. So if you look at their percentage from three points, which thirty six point two twenty seven times three times, their percentage is twenty nine points that they cost themselves take that for daycare data, Daryl, you know, what? Guess what lawyer? They're honestly officials. I'm going to be really honest, like there's some cuss words. I wanna use like I I was the first one to say, hey, the first half it was poorly. Officiated the referee addressed it thought. They did a better job in the second. Right. Never never never going to be perfect. But this type of petty clownish nece that you wanna send stuff from last year's finals. And you want to look take that data and put it wherever you want. But no, one cares. Tell your guys ago played better make basketball show your fail. And look I forget. All the calls. Forget the mysteries. The Chris Paul injury was something that was probably the most impact good. How many points again that? Did you did you? Did you fire your trainer because they didn't stretch him enough? Like, look, everything doesn't go the right way. So for you to go back and say, well, look at all of this stuff. It's like two did they miss any calls? If you're only looking at this one sided did they miss any call for the Golden State Warriors. Did they miss anything for them? It all feels petty. It is heading this condition. You Steve Kerr was available to the and he should've let's listen in watch Mr. Kirk is it's disappointing because focus should be on two teams played extremely army watching the tape. You know, both teams just got after competed. But in the modern game a lot of players have. Got really good at deception creating contact. You know, I I don't remember people falling down on three point shots. All the time. When I played is different rule. Once you release the ball. We were allowed to make contact. There was no no foul. Did they okay? She's Steve Kerr wants to folks to be on basketball. And of course, dough Maury. Got this information about Steve's press conference in the fake flop. And know some of the things he said about how the rockets are handling the series. So der Maury went to Twitter, and he tweeted this. Just a little reminder that Steve Kerr was fine for criticizing NBA referees. A couple years ago. Everyone does every hedonist escalated, no dream Andrei mom's, my funny. So here's sometimes calls. Her miss dream on it. And you remember the referee situation with the warriors in them earlier in the year the rivers, so look if you're on the winning side, you're always going to be like what is it? And so I liked that part. But my thing is you had they are they have been to the conference finals four times in a row. Are they've been to the NBA finals four times in a row or four times and the finals actually they've won three championships and the one that they didn't win they were up right with whatever I know in this. I'm not cracking jokes you I'm just saying they have been the most dominant team in basketball, Cinco beat them. Then go beat them. Rightly don't all. Well, our analytics show that this could affect like shut up shut up and go play basketball. Daryl Morey, right, Daryl show, me your basketball numbers. Right. No, no, dillmore slanders of loud. But also really even know if he's telling the truth, though, we don't know we don't know jealous and envious they do all kinds of things. That's weird. Let's go to the NBA where Steve Kerr downplays the clip of liberators home says the lip-readers were wrong this guy in the fourth quarter. There was a clip as they were going to break in the warriors game where Steve Kerr may have been caught appearing to say, I'm so bleeping tired of drains bleep. Now, it looked fairly obvious that that's what he said. He says no the liberators were wrong said Kerr with a hint of a smile. What I said was I beg to differ with Draymond approach tonight. Those are my exact words, I don't know how somebody misconstrued. He's got the wool pulled over. Everyone's everybody's wrapped around his finger. He doesn't he doesn't. He didn't answer the question. Right. He all he didn't answer the question by confirming. That's exactly what. He said just using different words. Correct. And muffing is just like man this Steve Kerr. And by the way, here's the funny thing so Georgia. I went back and watched the the clip not not the clip. I watched like the last five minutes of the fourth quarter. Basically when dream on checked in right? And once in the two forty something Mark he didn't what does he I don't understand? Why you could have been mad about? Yeah. Defensively. Cut off. Uber. Uber. Layup drive might of the earlier though. But mainly it takes. Steve, I maybe maybe it was something he says it's going to to to the huddle. But there was definitely no many basketball wise that I saw a film that would elicit that kind of reaction. Yeah. It was kinda strange. But it just shows like, I know we talked about it last week you, and I that those guys are starting to wear on each other after a number of years, right? And you know, that was a big experience for me in terms of, you know, helping me become the coach I am now, you know, one of the things that struck me about that brief intense time that we had was how. Great of a student. You are. And you know, I'm saying that in you've won. I think today eight championships, and you won a handful five of them as a player, and then like to watch you learn I was like okay here we go..

"It was one of my sixteenth year covering the NBA never seen an offer sheet like this. I think Steve Kerr said there's probably never been an offer sheet in league history where there's been no guaranteed money. And I probably would agree with that. Otherwise, it's kind of weird offer sheet. But then what's most interesting beyond actually, Patrick McCaw? Is that we have the Cavs. I can't. You're out there motive for doing this. But it's at least somewhat possible that they were playing a. Game with their old adversary the warriors, and then you have the warriors sort of firing back in asking the lead to investigate which is no small thing. Because I think if they ask for the investigation don't do they have to pay for it. Or is that just hampering? Anyway, but you have the the warriors sort of firing back and saying all right Cleveland now, we're gonna make you go sit in front of you know, be called the carpet. I think this is a pretty fascinating. Back and forth here. Well, you know, you know, Gilbert better than I do better than all of us on this call is he this petty? Yes. Well, there you go. Then you haven't how about a let me rephrase that hell. Yes. Okay. So there you got you got your answer. You got your answer. And it's I mean, it's awfully low stinks. What was the funk? Yeah. I think you know. On that offer sheet. You know, I think I think, you know. You know, the the font on the stat screens at the at the q arenas remains. I haven't been there. Well, I have been there this year. But I don't remember looking at it. But for years it was in comic sans. No, wait was really. Yeah. Again, I'd have to pay attention to it this year. But the the writing on the court, you know, how teams put their websites on the court. It says Cavs dot com. That's in comic sans. The stat. Screens have been in comic sans. Yeah. He embraces them. He doesn't run from it. So funny, but Bryant just to be clear to the best of your understanding. Nothing technically wrong with what happened right no on its face. They signed an offer sheet. The the warriors didn't match it was an was an unknown. In fact, the Cavs best defense, quite frankly is Patrick McCall was terrible. They can say we brought him in here. We played them in three games. He was out of shape and and completely out of rhythm. Didn't look like a guy we wanted to pay three million to the season. So we let him go like that's their best defense. But the the reason that the league I think is investigating is because the warriors. Is thought that the cows were intending to cut him, and then re signed him for the minimum. And this whole elaborate thing was a way to get Patrick McCaw guy who. Was a restricted free agent of a team on their roster for the minimum and it ended up being moot? Because the Cavs are not signing him. And the raptors are so I don't really see how there's going to be any sort of pipe penalty or proof or anything. I just I find that. We're have you? Interesting. But perhaps the reason they're not signing for the minimum is because they they they. Put in the complaint. That's right. That's what that's what's. So fascinating about. This is it's such a low stakes player. A meal. Offensive patron McCaw. He had a terrible injury last year, and he'd for all I know he's still recovering from that. But why go through all of this stuff for Patrick McCaw? Yeah. It's interesting. I mean, I I don't know. I mean, I honestly I thought it was one of two things I Brian it at that. Gilbert is a very petty individual. And it could be just as simple as that. Or who's Makasi is he like Schwartz person? Bill Duffy, who's one of the most respected guys in the league seen people say, oh, well, the cows were doing Bill Duffy favor. And again, the stakes are too low. Bill. Duffy is not putting his neck on the line to take to to try to squeeze a maneuver to get Patrick McCaw restricted. He's just I mean, I don't know. For hundred percent fact, I don't know Bill Duffy's thinking, I think Bill Duffy was sitting there with a player who was unrestricted. And had no hope and he took the first out..

"Stream app for today's X-factor. Let's hear from Steve Kerr was on the show yesterday on James harden. No, I don't think he's playing any differently this year. Yeah. He's playing the way. He's just pitted at a credible roof over the last ten games. So it's just one of those stretches of the season. And it's coming at a good time. So to them because Chris Paul's out, obviously. So he's just been dominant. He's one of those guys who, you know, all you really want to do is try to slow down and take away something you just can't let him get the threes lay ups and the free throws. If you can without following and keep them, so good. And that's your best chance to win. Even though you know, we're gonna make some of this step back threes, and you get to the pain make some layups. He's he's just that good. When you look at this rockets team how different they are from last year, obviously, and you've already played them. But seeing how they're starting to get a little bit more cohesive on this even without Chris, Paul. What's the biggest challenge? Other than harden feB doesn't matter who's out there. They're going to shoot threes. You know, they they won't they shoot forty or fifty three's every night, and they're gonna space a floor and give hard and all that to to drive. And so the most difficult thing is just covering the entire floor getting out to shooters then boxing out. You know, make sure you get the rebound. And then you gotta do it over and over again for forty eight minutes. So it's not easy so long haul, but you've got to stay disciplined. And if you're disciplined, you don't sell then the pace in the fall of the game direction and your business, obviously. That's the key to this whole thing. And I would call the x factor of the game. And that is keeping James harden off the free throw line twenty seven free throws last time out against Memphis. Fifty eight free throw attempts over his last three games than the warriors. Haven't had twenty seven free throws in a game. It seems like in like twenty games. Let alone one guy getting twenty seven hundred twenty one and twenty seven. That's I mean, he still left points on the board right there. Yeah. What the hell? I don't know. You know, Steve Kerr's talked about this. So many times, you know, don't reach do this do that. And it just seems like it doesn't matter. What you do? He so skilled at it. It's maddening. I mean as a especially as the opponent. You can't get any rhythm in the game. It's a hard game to watch to be honest with you. I'd love to wilder fan. Right. Well, no rhythm. No rhythm, always up. But then it just comes out. Like, hey, I need that back back MVP when he came out and said that I think it was yesterday. I need that back to back MVP the hell do you need? That's why you don't win. That's not a winner. That's hey, look, you got your one fine. Go that I need a ring. I want a rate. That's that's more important like being a MVP plus world champion on top of it that puts you on a different level. He's back MVP's. No rings. Sorry. He says I need it. I need it for sure. And I'm going to get it James Harden's point totals last ten games. Fifty thirty to forty seven thirty five thirty five thirty nine forty one forty five forty one and forty three I mean travel and again, fifty eight free throw attempts in his last three games. And that's what gives him those totals when Jordan was playing George play basketball up, right? Like in as a little kid, or when you go to those games and you see like the kid. You know have the ball for the first time and take three or four like jump stops will the one against against Utah. That was the one yet. That's exactly what James harden is doing exactly what you don't. Teach your kids do. But you see it when you're watching an eight year old play a game. They you know, he takes the shot takes a couple steps in and takes a shot. Again. You know, fakes it, boom. Yeah. That's James harden. Lou referees. Do something about it. They would have done it. They just don't know. I mean, you thought even with that his there was all sorts of memes and things done like traveling around the world, traveler unbelievable. You would think. Okay. Maybe they're not doing it. Doesn't matter does the same thing. So he's really good. Yeah. No. I look I don't want to take anything. He's really really good. It's just he makes it hard to watch basketball game. There's no rhythm to it. You don't. It's like it's like the guy on the court that you're playing at the gym and he's constantly calling his own fouls. Dude. No. That's not a valley. It's just gonna be great soccer players that just all they do this flop. It's hard. He's good. But it's not doesn't make me a Fallon. Are. We give you some final thoughts. Getting ready for the rockets and the words dubs countdown to tip off on the sports leader..
