You're talking about that part of the region but the acc in particular. They took one on the chin. This past weekend with louisville losing miami losing although they played against a team that at alabama you mentioned. But you'd still look at clemson against georgia north carolina. virginia tech. They three of the teams in the top fifteen took an ale or they finished and done with the college football playoff. I think if you're looking for a heartache. Which i know you would never do or i would ever do. You could say that. But but i think the complexities of college. Football does not support that because all it takes a or a couple of upstarts i think any sane college football fan watching clemson. Saturday night would have to agree. They're a high level football team. The problem is they were up against a really nasty defense and they just. They seemed like they digressed a little from a couple of years ago. Now what does that mean. That's digressing from the number. One team in the country with trevor lawrence and travis etienne in the backfield and all americans out on the sides but i think they just need some luck because they will get it in the acc. That's really what this is about the stinks it's got. I mean not only at the top but in the middle bottom. You had duke duke losing to charlotte which is a brand new program at georgia tech losing losing to northern illinois. That really pulls your league down in every game. This year for clemson we'll we'll just really almost unwatchable maybe with the exception of nc state. Florida state did look good and defeat. So there's a few positive things to talk about. But not many and meanwhile alabama georgia play in the big leagues. And so two sodas everyone else. So that's if there are no major upsets for oklahoma ohio state. Nobody has really been able to make a dent. Saving will turn seventy next month. But i don't think it stops right now because he's still recruiting better than any one else. He's got a very good staff. I mean he lost steve starkey into texas. Who did he replace him with bill. O'brien who is an nfl head coach a college head coach and someone who just moved right in and they did not nisa beat so i'm not saying it will go on forever. Some people think he'll win national championships until he's one hundred. But there's always occurred. "But i think it's very tough to see the independent irish returning to the playoff In twenty twenty one just based off how much turnover the roster is going to have this year. They lose ian book. Who was one of the better quarterbacks. They've had in quite some time the lose profile players like jeremiah. Woo core mora. Who went to nfl and they lose. Four starting offensive lineman to the league into graduation. So that's just too much turnover for them. I think. Brian kelly regresses a little bit and notre dame falls back to notre dame at number seven. We've got texas am They really feel like a team. That will make a big splash in the sec. This year i think the way they finished off last year jimbo fisher leading them. They finished fifth in the cold football player voting last season. I think you could make an argument of for them to go in over notre dame. They're going to have a little bit of quarterback competition they gotta replaced kellyn mon who got drafted by the minnesota vikings this year Three and have a quarterback competition between zach calzada and hanes kin. Then you've got you've got home games against missouri south carolina auburn and alabama to All home for texas. Am so if they can win those games they can win the auburn and alabama games at home. Which is a very tough place to play in college station. Then i think i can see the aggies taking that next step Even above a team like georgia in some ways depending on how the season plays out a number eight. We've got the florida gators. You've got quarterback cow. Trask gone you've got tight end. Kyle pits gone. You've got canarias. Tony gone There's new quarterback in town emory jones. He's going to be under center for them and have a big challenge and rebuilding their offensive line but their defense should be loaded this year and in a weaker. Sec east think they can easily win that division with talent that they have Dan mullen has done a great job. Coaching them up and it had a great season last year. That a lot of guys who got to see some big time games. They gave alabama one of the tougher matchups. They've had all year. That was a really good game against bama and they played them closer than any team in the playoff really did In that sec championship. So you got the experience there. You got the head coach. Who's who's doing a good job. It's again cultural ball. You never really know just with all the turnover and the projection that you're doing with some of these guys we've never seen play so number nine little bit of surprise but iowa state. They really made a big splash. Last year it would be their highest. Preseason ranking ever but they really came on strong last season. I mean they were big twelve champs that eight one record and they got a great head coach in matt campbell who i really heard of before last season but after winning the big twelve really kind of making a name for the iowa state program that campbell. He's establishing a culture there for the cyclones. And it's it's something cool to see some some finally some competition for the the oklahoma sooners. Who have been untouchable in the big twelve. But he's a promising young head coach. That is doing a great job. They've got quarterback brock purdy who's Returning he's a senior leader that opted to return. They've got tight end chase allen who's gonna make some big plays for them offensive lineman sean foster and tight end. Charlie cole are long with linebacker. Mike rose all coming back. You'd pretty with twenty seven hundred yards sixty six percent. Completion percentage nineteen touchdowns and nine interceptions last year He's a guy that we could see. maybe moving onto some draft boards with his play. If you really prove himself next season number ten we've got the cincinnati bearcats that comes to a little bit of surprise to me but again a team that played really well throughout the season last year into the into their bowl game they showed they can play with with some of the bigger teams in the in the power five conferences. When with their bowl game they barely lost georgia. It was a great game last second field. Goal georgia it. But i think we really have a shot at a non power five team making the final four i know. Coastal carolina could make a splash. They've got some really good returning players. But cincinnati is a non power five team to look out for this year. I really truly believe that desmond ritter. He's returning they had to kind of rebuild that front seven. But you have a future. Nfl player in their cornerback ahmad garner and they have some chances to really put some signature wins on the resume this year. Which is something you don't normally see from these non power five teams you've got you get to play indiana on the road and you always get to play notre dame on the road so if cincinnati is able to run the table and after they proved they can play last year with with. Sec teams with top top sec teams. Than i think the ncaa or the college football playoff committee could have its hand tied hands tied in determining who The final four teams are. I think cincinnati could have that last spot if they run the table. Now there are some other players to look for this year. You've got michael. Peeks junior out of indiana. He played very well in some stretches. Last year indiana. They showed a lot of toughness last season. They finished second in the big ten. They were six in one overall We'll also have opportunities to get signature wins on their resume against iowa on the road penn state on the road and they've also got ohio state at home so a lot of chances to possibly kind of get some signature wins on their resume. So other guys to look out for you've got sam. How from north carolina. He really is is a thing. He's the highest protected quarterback in for the twenty twenty two draft. Nfl draft He's really talented. I'm not so sure. How good north carolina's gonna be. They play virginia tech the first week of the season on friday. I think that's could be a great game but not mack brown. The former texas coach is really starting to recruit there so we're going to see a lot of the younger guys play for them How how does historic freshman year. And then last year he improved his completion percentage by seven percent and then his yards per pass attempt by two almost two four yards. A shows a lot of growth in that in that perspective and then got also talk. About how much offense at talent they're losing guys like das- newsom The lose their really good running back. I forget his name but getting a lot of offensive talent lost. But again you got a lot of good recruits coming in that mack brown was able to get some of those higher recruiting classes that we saw him pull in. So we'll see how that goes. In chapel hill you got bijon. Robinson will more guy to look out for texas running back Don't sleep. on. The longhorns. With steve sarkissian who just lead one of the most historic offenses in college football For alabama he got the head coaching job at texas I think the longhorns could make a big splash. It probably will take some time after they have fired. Tom herman herman but the town is there. He rushed for three hundred fifty five yards on nineteen carries against kansas state and colorado Hit a of seven hundred three yards on eighty six rushes in those two games for the final two games that season and again with steve starkey coming in. I think he's gonna find a lot of creative ways to Use him like he was able to use. Nashi harris last year as the lead back in alabama so. I think texas could be backed at the age. Old question is texas back. So that's my college football preview. i will get into more of that as the off season progresses. But next i'm going to get into some over under totals for the nfl. "Of course, if you had told me five years ago that a Steve Starkey Z is gonna be in lined of become the next head coach at university. At some point, you're crazy. You're plain fool, but But Alabama has a way of resurrecting people. And, you know, Brian Day balls, one of them, So I don't know. Brian will be successful with a ton of talent. I think I personally think that that O'Brien needs to be I'd coach in college somewhere because in college you look you have all the control. You have all the power you gotta you gotta kiss but with the boosters every now and then, But look He just he needs. He's just a hyper hyper control freak. I the people of people close to the Sean have told me that he was very high and Robert Stahl and I know that's been reported by. All the dish on is that publicly is that he wants better, a better culture and better leadership. And I don't think that that restricted just Eric the enemy. I think that there are several candidates that you would probably like, and I also don't think that at least we don't really have an indication Who believe that the Sean wanted to hand select the next general manager, the next head coach, I think that I think that Maddie riff loose. I think that Eric the enemy. Um, I think Leslie Frazier. I think all those guys fit the bill in terms of Guys who were who can be leaders and speak to two men and motivate them and maybe have just a different atmosphere than they had under Bill O'Brien and Remember, the song came out of a championship environment playing for Davos, Sweeney dabbles Tempo Sweeney and Bill O'Brien. They had their alike. In some respects. They're vastly vastly different in other respects, and I think Sean wants a little bit more. Daboo and his life work before you know, Dok said about 30. The Texans need to figure out a way to get some more talented playmakers on their defense. They don't have a lot of cap space to do that. So that's you know, Sarkeesian doing all the right things. Listen, gotta have the former players. You gotta have the love night. It's you got to have the big money. You gotta have everybody on the same bill and listening. Yeah, I've brought up things that have gotten me juiced up about hiring of Steve on the mound, and you've kind of been like, Well, everybody's doing that I'm telling you like when, when Chuck Strong was hired. I had former players on my FM show on I asked him, you know, as Charlie brought you in. Are you doing anything that Team, and he said No, but we are here and ready and I mean, like some really big names from that championship. Sure, they said No. And then I feel when Tom was here, I feel like he made an attempt to do that. But I just there was so much waffling with the guy right sleeve so easy and got on a zoom call with hundreds Hundreds, and I think it's setting. The tone is in day one. I'm here. I respect what you've done. I need you guys and I want you guys to be a part of this history a part of this program. And not only is he saying the right things he's doing them, in. So I think that was very interesting. And Steve is doing all the right things to put the pieces together. I'm with Marty. There's no reason that Texas can't when a conference championship next year with what we saw from Casey Thompson and Hudson Card and be John, and that improved defense. I think there's no reason to believe the Texas cannot challenge Oklahoma for the conference championship next year. And you're already seeing some of those preseason top high top five Heisman without visions name right up there at the front, which I think Yes, and probably would have been even hired would have given him the rock a few more times last year. Exactly. The thing that came to about there's already been movement with with college football, you know, with his transfer portal. Uh, Elk. Oklahoma got a big get today. Former Tennessee offensive lineman, uh, by the name of Wayne Morse, who was a start. Tennessee is transferring to Oklahoma, so and they needed a tackle. So it's gonna be interesting, and I think it's gonna be between Texas and And Oklahoma. I think there's gonna be a fall off with I would state next year because their quarterback leaving. I know they got some players were staying, but it's going to be exciting next year, and I think Texas can can win as well going quickly. Well, and one last point on just, you know, fearing the coach that didn't come from like the fact I think it was more out of respect and like that's fear of failing for that coach. Not just like all this guy is such a jerk. Or, you know, you know, in a negative sense, and you know, Yeah, we saw our former coach Tom Herman getting you know crowds, surfers first time. And then two weeks later, you were hearing rumblings that the locker room probably wouldn't have lifted him up if his life depended on it, You know? Yeah, I think it's the it's the culture of that. And that's that's what Marty Akins was talking about, like with a savings or a Darrell Royal. It wasn't that's not AH, week by week thing, you know, when you step foot in that locker room that that's the way it's gonna be throughout your time there, right And and let's be honest Texas his taxes. Oklahoma's Oklahoma. All the top schools that recruit well should have people in place, because if someone does screw up someone plays badly, it shouldn't be an entitled situation. Just because you're a five star recruit. You continue to fumble or missus, I missed. You're not going to play. You know what I mean? You've got there people behind you, and I think that that mentality might have been lacking. With Tom Herman and Tom Herman would drive us both to drink when they would do that running back by committee with which made no sense. Yes, but especially old disclosure.
