"History and you know in condition contention to be in a Super Bowl. It's just so hats off to to to the older guy. He's getting it done still getting it done. All the way out with Derek Johnson. I got two more for year. When we get to the Raiders, you spent a year there. That's the first year when Gruden came back. Are you a believer that Gruden is going to get? This thing turned around Because the last two seasons they got off to good starts, but then they just had disastrous finishes. Yeah. Um, you know, uh, good. His. His philosophy is very old school. Um, he likes to run the ball. Um, he's very often reminded, um, I think he's gonna have he's gonna have that that breakout season at some point soon, but you know, you just got to get a couple more guys in there. I mean, there's still firing coaches here and there and You know, cutting players in there, But it's some point. I think Gruden will will get it done When I don't know. I mean, they're in. They're in the same conference as Pat Mahomes, who Who's just signed a deal for You know, he'll be there for the next 10 years, so I don't know how that's gonna pan out for him. But I'll tell you what, Um I think, uh, Ira always give Gruden a lot of credit because you know he he likes veteran guys. He's old school type of coach. He brought me in in my 14th year, so I'm rooting for him. Obviously not against the Chiefs, but I hope I hope he does well. And last one for you. Bring it back to your roots. Texas do you approve of the Steve Sarkisian and higher After moving absolutely anybody that comes from Alabama stop that doesn't get good company. I mean, we need a little bit of that that flare and to get Texas back on the mouth. And we're close. You know, we're almost there, but we need a little help. And And I think Costar Kit's gonna gonna be that guy. I hope so. I think I'm Get a chance to meet him. I met him already on June, but I think next week or something. I'm going there and talk to him. We'll enjoy it. Enjoy the games this weekend. You in the family stay. Well. We'll talk to other road. Derek. Thanks so much. So much. "Star Jason had a veto on a Thursday 83605 nineties, the phone number We'll get to some additions to the Steve Sarkisian coaching staff in just a moment, but just one more thing on the Longhorns despite the loss. I love this roster like I absolutely love everything. You the three headed monster of those upperclassmen guards Jericho. Sims is great on defense. Absolute beast. Make the free throws. You have some MBA talent guy, you know, high end Greg Brown. Kae Jones brought Cunningham Energy. I just love everything about it. That's why I started thinking I was like this could be my favorite Texas team ever. Don't give up on that. And, yeah, I'm not giving up on that. That's what I'm saying. Is that this is you know, let me have a midseason stumble. Andrew Jones was so hot he was 463 pointers. He had one shot in the second half. I don't know what's the deal with that was the only took one shot in the second half. Anyplace. 34 minutes. Remind me of kind of be John Robinson under our former coach, Tom Herman. But I don't know. I'm just I'm I don't know either. I'm pumps still pumped about that this season and everything. My thoughts from yesterday haven't really changed. Disappointing Yes, causing me to sweat through a comforter and all my sheets and pillows because of fever. Dream Night sweats last night after the loss, Yes. Do it is my opinion changed from yesterday? Hell no. Hell, no, not not either my money to be because I think there's still have a great team in glass half full. I mean, I'd rather have that happen. I mean, look, dude, Greg Brown one and done. That's how it feels to lose to an in state rival at the last second, because you know your team didn't finish right. I'm glad that happened there instead of the big 12 championship or somewhere in the actual tournament, which they're going to be in this year. Dude, come on. Yes, I hate that. I hate that That is now a bar or something that we even have to consider. But yes, they will. They will make a T in Indianapolis this year. I'm pretty confident. On. Yeah. What? You know what happens in the next couple of weeks. Let's let's see where they're at out When we get to that Baylor game on, Let's see, you know, you know all the technique. I got a lot of tech friends and there are coming out of the closet putting up but I'm sitting. I'm sitting in one right now. You know, I just got sent by some of my tech buddies. Let's just see what happens in love it in a few weeks. Okay? That's what I'm talking What happens in love? Yeah. Uh, these that that's such a sad But did your Texas Tech friend asked for permission to use those babies likenesses know? Yeah, he's texting behind my back. I'm sitting right here and I can't even get in on this one up. No, I'm texting YouTube. He liked that one. Vito did not Have sex with that basketball over that bastard. Okay, we could move to football where Steve Sarkisian has has added names to his coaching staff. Kyle Flood, I guess today it has become official has joined the staff. The office of the Offensive line coach of Alabama will be the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Texas. We knew this like a week ago, right? You see the guy that was instrumental in helping bring the broken Maher. Brothers dollars? Probably seven. Probably quite likely it Zwiers toe. Have your offensive coordinator also be the offense. I mean, look at the start. Sarkeesian. Sarkissian is gonna be the offensive coordinator here, right? He's gonna call plays calling the place And so, Yeah, he's the offensive coordinator, but I guess you gotta put a title. On somebody around there. Well, he's somebody I hope that you know, his O. C is basically an extension of him. He can run the practices. You know, Coach starts going to have to be the CEO and go be everywhere, right? Right. You can't just focus on the offense. When you're the head coach. I think you know he's going to be heavily invested in that offense. And that is why this brings up what's going on with the defensive coordinator position like I feel like this is Well, when you when you get Sarkeesian, and he's going to run the offense, good. We're covered on that side of the ball. Seems like the next most important position is that D C job? Chris Ash still has not, I don't believe been informed about his status at Texas. Some people are saying that he might still retain that role. I understand Urban Meyer wants him. Tiuna come and coach with him with the Jags. It's been offered a job. By Dan Mullen in Florida Urban Okay? Yeah. You're not only you're not allowed to. You know how to flirt with us, Jesus. So we block him into our face about how you're staying retired for health reasons and then coming poacher to poach our guys. I don't think so. I just don't know if this is gonna work to the guy's never been a professional football coach has never been around. Professional football camera setting. It's just this thing when he starts yelling at somebody to louder for I'll take away your scholarship. Say, man, I got no scholarship here on, you know, I agree with you, and we're gonna circle back immovable talk about urban, but but I want it. What? What are we doing? What are we waiting on with this defensive coordinator position? I don't know, but we've only It's only mean technically are we've only had a head coach for two days. My my expecting things that no, he said all gas, no brakes, veto all gas, No brakes. Hey, Ed back me up on this or help me with this because I think we've been all gas so far. I mean, yeah, look at the vacancies that he's created and then filled And my question is point of inquiry. How many have we poached from the Crimson Tide already? Well, so that's another one. Today we will learn Jeff Jeff Banks, and I want to know all about that. This is a good gift. The tight ends and special teams Coach for the Crimson Tide Jeopardy guy. Thanks. Yeah, Considered a new elite recruiter, particularly here in the state of Texas spent the last three years at Alabama five years with Texas. And and before that he recruited Kyle Allen, Christian Kirk. Several other guys for the AG is there. So Yeah, that is. I mean, if you don't talk about strategic hires A guy who's never coached in Texas and Sarkeesian. Perfect. I love it. I am sort of wood. Random aside. Why would you leave Alabama to come to Texas? I doesn't matter. I'm having of Ray's getting a race. But I think, same position and I mean look, the brand is still strong. I can't challenges all coaches, air nomads, All coaches, Jr nomads. I really believe how many of them are back along. Well there. No man may be vagabonds. But all coaches like they move. They move in. They groove all the time. One thing you said earlier about Sarkeesian in the offense. One thing saving did. Sarkeesian was left alone by saving, understand and reading and talking and hearing on TV. He was totally left alone on the offense Saving would go to the defense of meetings. Meet with the defense of coaches, but he would virtually not have much time with Sark..

"So, uh, it will never be dial back the NC double late because I'd say that was that was an entertaining game last night, albeit lopsided. It didn't draw that much. 18.7 million was one of the lowest lowest of all time. That's why I think there is potentially a problem if Alabama doesn't start running the clock out in the middle of the third quarter. I mean, that game was going to be four hours 45 minutes, something like that. We were on on pace for that thing to go forever. Let me throw something out. We talked about yesterday. That's why you need to expand the playoffs. So you don't have the Alabama Clemson's and Ohio State's every year. J. Vito back me up on this, I did I did I discussed before you came on. So add the 50 to 24 is the exact same score that A and M lost Alabama by and Maggie's on the Internet last night, were somehow explaining. That's why they belong in the college football playoff. It doesn't add up to me to me. It means nobody belong there, except for alibi. And and and Alabama was going to win, no matter what. But why? I don't understand. Why do we need to expand the playoff? What does that Because because for excitement because it's turning stale because every year it's the same school same three or four schools. We need to make it like the NC double a tournament where sometimes you have a Cinderella in there. You put some Cinderella in some situations put the Cultural Carolina's put them liberties in there puts it. Cincinnati's in there, put the s and using their, you know, Get some of the teams. That's out of the power five. That could surprise somebody. Cincinnati almost beat George. I know Georgia had a lot of opt out, but still I think that would lead to be lied to Maurizio I'tm Mint. You know, it would totally Leedham workshop because it's becoming stale right now, With Alabama and Clemson, Ohio State dominating and you throw in the Sooners, too. You know it zoo me It's stale and almost an afterthought. We we did talk last hour. At about is is Alabama bad for college football? Because they they seem to just win every other year, seven titles now for saving more than anybody ever. He's 69 years old. Over under 2.5 more Ah, I think under and we had to be under. Yeah, it's got to be under saying that he may be what you know how much time does he have left on this contract? I mean, it's a lifetime. I understand that, but it isn't really or I mean, I think he's Yeah, I'll tell you guys not now that Steve Sarkisian is officially here and it's talked in this would warn the burnt orange No take backs because last night and maybe they did you guys notice this? Felt Nick Saban had a lightness to him that I had never seen him. You know where with one of the titles. It wasn't the Texas one, but there was one that he won. And afterwards he just seemed grumpy, like like he couldn't wait to. He needed to be out on the road Recruiting. At that moment, he couldn't even take the time to lift the crystal football. And last night, he seemed to do not have that He seemed light and happy and he was smiling is very historic. And I'll tell you what there was a part of me. I like had a little a pit in my stomach. I was Like man. He's about to retire and they're gonna offer Steve Sarkisian the job he started. You're never gonna get on the plane. He's going. He's here. He laid it on the plane, and I wouldn't even bring it up if he wasn't already here, Okay, But that's what I was thinking that last night, so I don't know. I hope that he's embracing his own greatness because, like you said, the guys always like, what's next? What's next? Let's recruit what he did last night. Again, not only a Diddy Diddy surpass her tied Bear Bryant. He pay past him last seven. Nobody's ever won. Seven. Not only did he surpassed Bear Bryant, who you know, was on such a pedestal, right? He has currently Maurin at ease than all of the other active coaches combined. If you saw the picture of him out there, I don't know if it's Photoshopped or whatever, but he's just kind of like leaning. And it just rings. All those championships are right there. Hopefully he deserves to enjoy that for a moment that was very insightful job was thinking the same thing because they looked happy last night. He usually scowling and pissed and mad at the media mad at somebody, but he looked like he was genuinely happy Landlord Awas. It was like The Joker creating his own Batman sending Sark to Austin, knowing that within years here we come for you. We're finally going to give you a run for your money, Nick. Let me tell you. What did you see the reports you? Maybe that? Did you talk about the new offensive coordinator? Alabama? You can't win them all out. Got camel. My lord. This gets over. Now it's over Bruce Feldman over. It's reported that Bill O'Brien has visited Tuscaloosa and is in line to succeed Steve Sarkisian as Alabama's offensive coordinator,.

"Call it a comeback. Jason Dick back in the house. Do you guys miss me? You guys missed anybody. I missed your big guy. I love the pictures from your You're Gilligan's Island 10 10 Day cruise in a while. That was fantastic. Had had a great time. A refreshing break, and it's good to be back with you guys ate 3605 90. That is my long term Long term broadcast mentor the great at Clement's. How are you at Happy New Year? What's going on, buddy? Happy New Year to you. I tell you what, this weather I played golf Saturday and Sunday had a good walk today. A love love the weather. But, man Oh, man, Do you think we have anything to talk about today, Jason? Anything at all from the college level to the pro level to college basketball. There's not anything to talk about. First of all, say what up to our guy Beato, who's out this week? Because we're committed to making sure that the full show is never here all in one place Once again. It's really a safety protocol. And this is still covert, delicate time. As long as we keep the three of a separate then there's no way it can wipe out the entire show. That is. How was your covert pro? To call on the island of value. How was that? That was that I'll have you know, and that I was. I was tested as everybody is before they enter the island of Hawaii. Negative four for four on negative tests for your boy on then I enjoyed a week, two weeks in paradise without in in a state that has not riddled with coronavirus like this one, so I know there's some people out there shaming me. Go ahead. Shame away. But, yeah, As I had mentioned plenty to get to on the program today, the NFL season is officially the regular season. Officially in the books. Cowboys had a chance to make the playoffs on Sunday. Spoiler alert They didn't make it didn't do it. I will get to that, where the Eagles tanking on Sunday night football that was despicable. That was totally this spectacle and Shaka Smart's Longhorns are flipping Top five team. We'll We'll get to all of that on the program, but of course, of course, our first story of 2021. The Longhorns have a new football coach Steve Sarkeesian, currently the offensive coordinator at Alabama will take over for the surprise fired Tom Herman. We're gonna break this down, rip this open from top to bottom, but the announcement was made early Saturday. Ed Clements your initial reaction. Steve Sarkisian, next coach at Texas Well, Yeah. Starts mint. Well, can I start at at about 10 20 on Saturday morning when I'm enjoying a breakfast taco and son Ben calls me from the road and said Tom Herman just got fired. You know, you could have knocked me down with a feather. First of all, I was exceedingly surprised that he got fired of the other morning the day after what we have when it would Saturday. I was shocked because Krystal contact had led us to believe he was going to be the coach in 2021 Crystal cont a talk to the to the new recruits and said, Hey, Tom, Herman is going to be your coach. Don't worry. Don't worry. And then Tom Herman goes out and the team blows the doors off Colorado, maybe maybe his best win in Texas. Yeah, maybe his best best win it Texas and I thought I thought Thomas secure for another year. We saw a glimpse of be John and Casey Thompson and over shown on defense. I thought, well, this is You know, let's get it done. Let's let's just get it done. But Wow, I was absolutely shocked about that. And then let me just say I was doubly shocked. Five hours later, when Steve Sarkisian got the job as head coach of the University of Texas, I was Flabbergasted about that decision. I am shocked at that decision. Let me let me preface. I wish him well, I wish him well, but I'm scratching my head over this higher. Steve Sarkisian is an excellent play caller for Alabama. But Jason, you and I and Vito could call place for Alabama with the players they have. Let's be brutally honest. Steve Sarkisian was an average head coach at Washington. He got fired for drinking at USC, and then he's been under the arms of Nick Saban. Ever since he was he was in Atlanta for two years as a ineffective offensive play caller on end of offensive coordinator So he gets this job and I'm a first inclination was y Steve Sarkisian. But I think I know why we could get in later. But I'm really, really shocked that this all went down. After I've been telling people I give this higher, maybe a B in baseball things. It's a It's a single runner headed the second base, but no, this is not a home run. I think Texas trades apples for apples. When they hired Tom Herman. They got the former offensive play caller for Urban Meyer. Now Texas gets the play caller from Nick Saban. And here we go again. And one other thing. I know I'm dominating. Not good for you. Let me just say this. It's finally and listen. I've been follow along or football a long time. Texas is a mid level program. Jason. It's not an elite program anymore. We're not an elite program anymore. I hate to say, and I fought callers and people saying You let the outside influence the inside of the 40 acres. And you know what? I fought that enough off that, But you know what? They're right. This program is dominated by rich moose tres That's what it is, and rich boosters got what they wanted over the weekend. And we're going forward. And I hope they're right. And again, Steve Sarkisian is I trust I saw the soon we were on the air with men on the end zone club. Seems like a very nice guy. But to me this is apples for apples in my excited about this. No, I'm not excited about this at all. And part of me feels real sorry for Tom Herman getting lied to by the athletic department and those recruits getting lied to by the athletic department and the assistant coaches who now have to pack up and leave. Get lied to by there by their bosses. 83605 90 degree with that Clements is take their eye. I talked myself into Steve Sarkisian. And maybe you're talking me back out 51283605 90. I'm gonna will come back. I'll push back on a little bit of that. Talk more about the Tom Herman situation as well. We want to hear from you 83605 91 you think of the new head coach. Longhorn football. It's sports talk Jason and Vito back in just a moment. Wall Street. Oh, a fondue set..

"Announced that the Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, will be the next head football coach of the Texas Longhorns, Sarkeesian says he's been waiting for an opportunity like this. I knew I wanted to be head coach again. I thought it could happen again. But I was just hopeful that the right job would come and definitely felt like this was one. Sarkeesian held previous head coaching positions at Washington and USC, combining for 46 35 overall record and a

"With every new year, it's a time of new beginnings for a lot of folks and with new beginnings. The hope is that things will get better, right. Well, that's exactly what the people in good old Austin, Texas at the University of Texas are hoping after deciding to part ways with head football coach Tom Herman. After four seasons leading the Longhorns, there were plenty of rumors swirling this college football season. That the two parties may part ways. But just three weeks ago Texas administration said that Herman would remain the coach of the program. So our college football analyst Desmond Howard did not see this one coming. Surprised because, like you, I thought they were going to give him another year. Why did it take this long to make that decision so really surprised by it because I just thought it would happen earlier. If they didn't happen earlier than it was to go ahead and get in the 2020 21 season to play out and then evaluate Coach Herman. I guess they decided against that. Rumors coming out of Boston was that Herman was a guy as a head coach that didn't get along well with the players. The players didn't like his style of coaching. His approach was kind of like my way or the highway and with this generation That just doesn't work with them. That think that's why they didn't perform up to the standards that everyone expected. A Texas Longhorn team the to perform up to, and I think that's what a struggle in so many games Sarkeesian younger coach. I think he gets along with this players a lot more lot better based on what I've heard, if that's going to be the guy we know he's a brilliant play caller. We talked earlier off camera, but our top five play callers a college football. He was on all of our list. So he I think he has that person. I He could go out recruit. He could get guy's toe. Believe it what he's selling, Just like we showed Indiana's coach, Those guys believing what he's selling. I think it's gonna be a great higher if it is Steve Sarkisian. Says surprised but he's not the only one who was surprised surprising to a lot of people. Even though I did hear whispers about this before the Alamo Bowl last week, your Crystal Connie Raised that statement. Their athletic director kind of an interesting way in December, said, You know, he is our coach right now. I'm encouraged by the way the program is going, it kind of leaving the door's somewhat open for a potential change, but this came as a shock to people on staff. People in the industry people very close to Tom Herman didn't know about this until literally 5 10 minutes before they put out their statement at Texas that he was out as the head coach, and so again, this is about opportunity. Do you don't make this change unless you know who you want and sources telling our own Chris Lowe and another reports that Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Steve Sarkisian will be the target here. They hope to finalize a deal with him. That is ESPN College football insider, Adam Rittenberg. Herman was 32 18 and his four seasons at Texas. He mentioned the fact that Sarkisian is coming in Texas has now announced that former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will would place Herman Shark Asian is 46 35 as a head coach and five seasons at Washington and part of two seasons at USC. Our Myron Metcalf says that the new coach has somewhat of a tough job ahead of him. If you're bringing in the coach and saying, you got to get all the five star kids from Texas good luck with that It's not that easy because there isn't sort of this legacy that these kids have grown up watching. But that to me is why you have these unrealistic expectations. Just recruit Texas kids. That's all you need to do to compete at the highest level. That hasn't been reality in a long time for the Texas Longhorns, So if you really want Steve Sarkisian come in and make an impact. You have to start with reasonable expectations for this program going for Let's talk about something else. That's orange, but not of the burnt variety. The Orange Bowl and Oh, did we get a good one in Miami Number five Texas A and M versus number 13, North Carolina. Comes.

"At Texas Big firing on Saturday. Courtney Herman is out. After four seasons, he went 32 in 18. They did be Colorado on the Alamo Bowl. Finished seven and three this year, but Tom Herman had big trouble losing tow unranked teams as a rank team. No team had lost a zoo many games to unranked team at teams as Texas ad Under Tom Herman the last four years, Steve Sarkeesian is going to be the new head coach of Texas. He's currently the OC in Alabama, the top assistant in college football. So Herman is out. Sark is in Do you think Courtney good move by the Longhorns. I don't know if we can really judge that yet because Steve Sarkisian didn't really win anything at USC. And obviously that ended prematurely after you know, to most of two seasons there piece of some personal issues he was dealing with at the end of that 2015 year, but You know, he inherited a really bad Washington program. And then he was a consistent took him to consistently to bowl games and winning records. And all of that, that moves him up. He gets the USC job, so I don't know if it's I'm not going to say it's a lateral move by any stretch. He's clearly Ah, brilliant Offensive mind. That's what the athletic director for Texas was, You know. Bloviating about all day, you know, as they were making this higher official, which you know, I think it just kind of speaks to the bigger, bigger issue here in college athletics and a lot of this, like backdoor under the table type stuff. You know, there was allegedly looking into Sarkeesian for quite some time. Urban Meyer was on the table, and then he wasn't We just kind of awkward because, like Tom Herman came up under urban Meyer. So just all this stuff There's no real height like true hiring process. Once you have a hot name, in view of a chance to go after that hot name, you're going to do it, whether it's within, you know, an hour of firing the guy that he's replacing that morning, so I'm not surprised that it is Steve Sarkisian just because his name had been No repeatedly surfacing for for a couple weeks now that he was going to get one of these marquee jobs, But you know, Texas hasn't been Texas of our heyday, JT in more than 10 years. I mean, they've been surpassed by Texas A and M being, You know, right there in their backyard. They've watched his Ohio State Alabama. Come into their territory to take their recruits and take them out of state. You know, when I'm kind of just like been wracking my brain about this my recruiting brain when I used to cover recruiting kind of comes into play here, the mark of his successful program is being able to keep your in state prospects. In state and not have them go to the blue book Blood programs outside of the state because you yourself should be one of those programs that can retain top talent in the area. They haven't done that in quite some time that had won 10 win season in 10 years, so we either need to shift the expectations that taxes which clearly isn't happening if you're willing to spend $24 million to get the current staff out of there, saying here Here's 15.4 for you, Tom Herman. We don't want you to coach. We want to pay you this enormous sum to just sit around and not coach. That's how much we at least have the appearance. That we want to go all in towards these expectations of winning, so clearly, that's not changing. But Truth be told. I just don't know how much it's going to change right away under Steve Sarkisian. I feel like there's gonna be a lot more factors there, but he's going from a place where he's got it made. He calls plays. He designs an offense for the bet. Literally the best talent in the country. He doesn't have to deal with any of the outside stuff. The stuff that falls on next statement. How is he gonna handle that? At a place like Texas that you know the expectations were gonna be sky high from the day he steps foot in Austin? I haven't seen the salary reported yet, Courtney. But if I'm sorry, I'm like you better give me a better begin with a seven. Okay? Like 7.5 million per year. You could even bumped me up to eight million per year. They are spending money at Texas. They always have. And you're right. They have not lowered expectations. One bit. This was Sark on his press conference today. After being named New Texas head coach was asked the question after five years away. Did you have the urge to be a head coach again? When Texas came along? It felt right initially and continue to feel right. The more I got engaged in, the more I started to research it. Let's just felt like an awesome opportunity for me, so I knew I knew I wanted to be head coach again. I thought it could happen again. But I was just hopeful that the right job would come and definitely felt like this was the one and what makes us Steve sir Keys in different than the other head coaches that came before him a Texas That we all want Texas to be back. We all believe Texas should be back. That's why I'm taking this job. But the reality of it is we have to put in the work. And then when you put in the work, then you then you get the outcomes that you desire. So you know, there's no guarantee promises T this thing here..

"But yeah, he's also he said the big lottery, but he had one of the most prime jobs of all prime jobs, and he blew it. A blue. I have no doubt the Tom Harmon will be a head coach somewhere next year. He's a good coach. I just don't think he was right. He wasn't right for Texas. I think he's better off in a smaller school. Go to Boise State, and you'll be a fantastic head Coach. Probably Conference championship. Yeah, I've got some, like Boise State of Texas, so it just wasn't right to fit. You got to find the right fit, You know, places. That cable right fitted at Iowa State. Yeah, You know, I've listen to this all for the last 25 years about how we're bad fans, Texas fans, your bad fans and the alumni's bad. And we get too much. If he is on If he's sober, more power to you, sir, We're a nation of second chances, and he's got the ultimate second chance, But I just think it's very unseemly. To pay off these coaches for $24 million, and I think it's very wrong and very arrogant of this university to more than likely give Steve Sarkisian more money that you gave Tom Herman and Steve Sarkisian credentials are not very strong to me again on my model for my final thoughts are there. Coaching search updates: Kevin Steele the favorite at Auburn

"Obviously we're in the middle. Coaching carousel to and i think the most interesting one right now is auburn I think they spent twenty one point. Five million dollars to buy out gus malzahn. We could argue whether he should have been fired or not the end of the day. He lost the momentum there and they the boosters put the you know got out the hat and collected the money and they fired him. So you think okay. You're gonna fire Coach gus malzahn. All that money. You're going to want to go out and get like the splashes possible coach. You can get tell us who's actually leading the coaching search right now as we reported this morning. That sources are telling me that the front runner for this job right now is defensive coordinator kevin steele and while that may blow some people's minds. He has some very very influential people at auburn who are big believers in him and in his corner at auburn. Especially that matters right so look We have a story up but the athletic now about who's in the mix there and the ones. I think one of the people who is really a big contender against kevin steele on this front is lane. Kiffin at ole miss But i think he would have a hard time turning that job down. I think he's obviously a big name. Now he's foreign four. It's it's interesting in that. I think a saturday's game between ole miss and lsu doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. You know outside of those two programs. But i think it may may need a little bit of something potentially at auburn as crazy as it sounds because for some people at auburn i think they could shape it and saying all right kevin steele dreadful run as the head coach at baylor twenty. Plus years ago he was one and thirty one in big twelve. Play at baylor is a long time ago but people. I've talked to down there have made the case where you know what at had a bad record. The first time he was a head coach and he just won a national title a year ago. And my my counter. That was well. He did have to times as interim pretty lengthy runs where he was at least able to show people he's evolved and grown and those people said look a people at auburn feel like kevin steele's been the guy who's hold it together for them the last few years he is very well respected within the scc And so also know how. Attractive is lane to auburn. He did a really good job at fau their foreign You know if he loses to. Lsu's not very good this year. He's foreign five. I think probably diminishes a little bit No its first year. It wasn't like anybody expected out all messed great. But he's definitely a candidate As billy napier from louisiana Maybe who freezes is somebody that that auburn would push for. I think and you still have steve sarkisian there. You know also in the state of alabama So it's a really interesting. Search in auburn is wildly unpredictable. What does but From what i heard they would love to have a coach Decided upon by the beginning of next week

What Will Coach Nick Saban's Absence Mean For Alabama Football Game Against Georgia On Saturday?

"To Jordan Rogers Course the Tennessee Kentucky game to mark Jordan. Let me bounce around a little bit and everybody's talking. Around the country about Auburn about Obama and Georgia and Nick Sabin. You've been on the field with head coaches and you how important that position is except nick? Sabin doesn't really do much on the offensive side, but he does a lot on the defensive side. What what would what will his absence mean? Demar on that sideline? I think it's huge and I would argue quickly Paul I. Think he does do a lot on the offensive side. I have able to sit down and watch a ton of Alabama TV film writer TV Games because we're I'm usually broadcasting a game remember back when it was Lane Kiffin Colin place remember how much we saw them but in heads and communicating on the sideline. So there are a lot of adjustments in feedback that Nick Sabin Gibbs. To operative coaches but again, the defensive side is going to be missed most here's what I'll say I like I. Haven't seen good teams have great game plants going into Games. Great teams make great adjustments in. That's the difference with Nick Sabin, his ability to adjust in game going back to the National Championship game against Georgia pull the plug on. jalen hurts put to a ton of low in. That's a big adjustment that you see so many. Small. Adjustments that come from the minded Nick Sabin in game because he's done this. So long at such a high level things that people don't see that he's able to see and he has an instinct. So that's where they're gonNA miss him the most in a close game when adjustments need to be made and as well on the opposite side. Right? You've got a guy that good of defense he's going to walk over to Steve Sarkisian go hey. If they're playing this coverage. Here's where the week I'd go this right. He's GonNa give subtle adjustments and hints and tips to what to do on both sides of the ball. So I think the the presence, not only from a figurehead of what he means to that program, but the ability to adjust in Game I. Think it's a big loss.

"The proof's in the Pennzoil based on sequence for a wear test using essay Five W 30. Not only is he our lead college football analyst he was the lead dog for one of the great Alabama offensive lines of all time. He's a three time BCS national champion. A couple of times he's hoisted that s E. C championship trophy, and he joins us. He'll be on the call for Clemson at Georgia Tech Saturday on ESPN radio coverage beginning at 11 30. Obviously, he'll have his eyes on Alabama and Georgia, the former his alma mater. College GameDay live from T Town Saturday. 9 A.m. Eastern. On ESPN. You know Nick Saban. Well, good morning, Baron. Welcome to the program. Just give me the exact specifics on what it would be like for the team if he wasn't there. Good morning. How you doing? Thanks for having me on really cares for you. Thank you. But I've got this question. What were you gonna think It's really interesting And obviously everyone knows except the defensive coach, So he's obviously a lot more of all the different kind of football. I think that's probably the place where you're the most concerned her in Alabama fan is not having it was there defensively on how to make those adjustments, you know, sort of the gameplay thing goes. Certainly that's a big deal to feel thing. But sort, you know, had a lot of experience with that kind of thing. So I don't think that'll be a big thing. But defensively, don't have anyone watched the album all this can last week. But Alabama that doesn't need any more excuses to playback defense. They played some of the worst defense I've ever seen on. I was calling that game last weekend. It was honestly an abomination conditions the football on. I never thought I'd say that about now. On. So I think that's probably your biggest concern. Is your album with not having that with some of the heads of how to make those endgame adjustments? Bear. How does this Steve Sarkisian handle the potential, you know, been interim head coach in the biggest game of the season, a short season but also the biggest game of his head coaching career. Yeah, that's another good question is, you know there's been a lot of of head coaches who employed collars is certainly balancing over the years. You've seen guys like Shawn, but they Who? Obviously he's a brilliant guy. He's giving up some of the play college duties to focus on being more of a head coach and making those big picture decisions that it is a lot to put on a guy especially it's not like you're thrust him into a game against a small school. You're going certainly Georgia and you're after you got to call plays and behead coach. I think it's a big responsibility. I think starts ready for it, though. He's a very sharp guy. He's kind of been, you know, waiting in the wings. Alabama spent a lot of money in the off season to keep him on. So for reasons just like this, obviously to have a guy like that on staff. I don't think you anticipate your coaching and current of ours. But having on off of the coordinator who could take a lot of responsibility, he pretty much runs the offense aside going. That's the way Stephen really does. Most things. Like I said, spends most time on defense and left the office coordinator kind of run things on that side, so he's used to having a lot of those shoulders. But definitely this is undoubtedly later than that. They got it later. It'll be something Keep an eye on in situational football. How could start balance, calling the plays while also making sure that he's aware of the big picture. Mack Jones, potential Heisman Trophy finalist. Going up against a Kirby Smart, lead defense, which you know is going to be tough to get any points on. What should we expect from him in his place. Okay. I'm glad you said that. You know, back Jones. I won my goals when I'm announcing now, And when I'm talking on radio shows, you're trying not to sound like a homer. People argue, hate Alabama. Enough. They don't need much excuse to hate you. But that was playing really, really well. And I think a lot of people hasn't surprised they expected me to turn on the television to see a big drop off from to a ton of alone. And it just hasn't been a drop off at all. In fact, numbers wise, he's been probably a little more efficient so far earlier this season. He's been incredible. He's played very well. Honestly, you look good on college football. Nobody's playing defense. Except from 82 schools, and that I've seen so far in the Clinton and Georgia with Georgia, probably being the best defensive released on tape. So if it's gonna be a big test because of all the tape of watch that George is the best defense, Alan was probably the best offense. They're actually loaded tradition. They have a stacked office of line. They got talent everywhere on the perimeter. They have a great back, and now you're here and I got a guy who's playing with the kind of confidence a quarterback and it's the best on best I think in the entire country On Saturday, and that's always fun to watch Bear. Let's go to Clemson. Georgia Tech. How does Trevor Laurence compared to other cubes we've seen over the past couple of years. Ultraviolence earn this year. It's kind of hard. It's elves because some of the competition they played, but but I think he's taking this game even to another level. We're just really dig into the tape, and you watched some of the things he's doing. A TSA line of scrimmage. Now he's really entered that elite category. You know, it feels like Trevor Laurence just as transformational a player as that he has been, You know, I feel like they want to give the Heisman this year. Description. He has been so good for so long it just cos that sings your moment because he has been awesome. Only disadvantage. Always pointing. It will just be. Can anyone given a tough tests were to have those kind of moments. Because he's been incredible. And like I said, You want the tape and I don't know how it looks like you've even gotten better than sausage has gotten stronger, like you've had a little bit of muscle, so I think I think he compares. Looking good in any way that I have ever seen in college football, And I think he's pretty much been the presumptive number one pick for the last three years, and probably if you wantto added a new the other guys, if you had been in the last three drafts. They would have taken a number one. And so I didn't have my space speaks for itself. When you talk about the talent that you have, That's his lot. Just when I was about to ask him about the Pac 12, we gotta wrap. No, just kidding. Hey, Barry thinks the A C C is down. We don't need to talk about the fact that I just gave tongue planted firmly in cheek. You're gonna have your eyes on now, if you have 30 seconds Pac 12 organs. Pretty good. Nice is saying just the way you got to do it on the radio quickly between plays. You'll have your eyes on Trevor Laurence this weekend for Clemson in the rambling wreck. It's just you know, there's going to be a lot of different deputies for predict save. And then and we'll see again, it's it was big turnover. And I think a lot of things went against them that night. And that's why I think the spotlight is really on them. And why everybody's so fascinated about what happens now, let me close by. Talking about where he is staff wise. The Sark thing seems to be a faded completely tasha employee leaves and any we all know the narrative there that sounds like that comes under one of your categories were saving probably did everything he could.

"And yet Nick Simmons able to to deal with it in in a way. So it's gonna be fascinating to see how these. Pieces come together reported in there. And and a lot of the local guys I think down there have reported Steve start cheesy and visit familiar face and knows what Nick savings program is about. And and just as importantly, Nick Saban knows Steve Sarkisian knows it. You know, is there is interviewing people, you know, to see what kind of look kind of staff will go around it. But look I referenced in the story, I I suspect and my hunch is you may have one or two other assistance still end up leaving their before we get into spring football. So it's it's really interesting time around Alabama just because of all this turnover. It's even more than than what I think a lot of people got used to. Yeah. I mean, it's one thing to lose assistance after a successful national championship. But but Bruce Amine, we're coming off of in Alabama's case Nick savings worst loss and you go back two years as. I know, you know, we're talking about a complete wipeout of the staff, we're this is fairly unprecedented. Isn't it? It is because I think in that gun into this a little bit of the story. The bar is is insanely high there. I mean, I look I was predicting that I was I was shocked that Alabama got blown out. I was still pretty surprised that they even lost the Clemson. And you know, you stop and think about it. And again, this isn't a story. They were down eight starters on defense. You lose your best pass rusher before the season and probably your best cover guy amid season. You know, they basically gave up about the same amount of points that they did to Clemson in the last two times they played them in there. And it just again, I think it's like because they got blown out because it was twenty eight point, you know, the way that played out. I think people are like, whoa, we're at we're in uncharted waters here. And that's the part where I think it gets to be really interesting. Because again, you know, this is Nick Sabin had so many guys he knew and then all of a sudden now. Now. It's like, okay. Who you bring it on around you to help to build this thing back up. I think to to kind of get it going going forward. Just because again like you said this is unprecedented to see see a Nick Sabin team blown out like that..

"You're right now, so far you have to assistance that are held over. But then a lot of Aken sees Steve Sarkisian has not been announced but expected to be the offense coordinator primary play caller for Alabama. Hearing today that there's two candidates for the offensive line. Vacancy is Brent key went to Georgia Tech to be with Jeff. Collins those candidates are Kyle flood the former Rutgers coach who work with Steve easy last year on the coaching staff and an interesting name is Bob BOS dad who right now coaches linebackers for Wisconsin. But really built a reputation as a offensive line coach with the badgers, and then went to to NFL teams work for Greg Szanto. I believe with the bucks and somewhere else. So Bob BOS that is a very respected offensive line coach. So he could be moving in to Bama, they need a receivers coach we're hearing that Craig a cooler Gauss ski their defensive line coach is unlikely to return. So that would be another vacancy on defense. And so it's going to be dramatically different staff. Few of the assistance are expected to return from this year. But we knew about Mike Loxley. The real surprise guys. We mentioned Tate Martell going to Miami. And we thought this might help their cause for Jalen hurts. But Dan, he knows who was expected to take over the play calling from Mike Loxley on the offense of side for Alabama. He went instead joining many as at at Miami as their offensive coordinator and play collars. So Alabama needs a new quarterbacks coach if they're Qizhen isn't going to coach that position. I would assume he will. But that's another vacancy on this. And Josh Gaddis was supposed to go to Maryland. That was the thought follow Loxley. And then he went to Michigan and on record is talking about kind of the chewing that he got from saving when he said he was going to Maryland and wound up going to Michigan. It is look you've got seven players who left early for the NFL draft as well record for Alabama who still had some time left eligibility left Ivan is this the coaches in all this constant turnover. Nail. Nick Sabin as long as he's there. That's things are going to be great, or at least they're going to be competing for national championships every year, but as this turnovers this more about coaches using Alabama for a springboard to other jobs, they go there it serves its purpose, and they leave or can we connect the dots that it's just hard to work for an extended period of time under Nick saving. Mad? I think the answer is. Yes. It's all of that. It's tough to work for Nick. It's always been tough to work for Nick one thing that's apparent though. And especially in this case Steve Sarkisian is coming back guys who leave come back to work for him. So it can't be that tough. You know, and the other point I would make certainly some of them use it as a springboard. I think in touch loopholes case is Adam pointed out, I think Golding was doing a lot of the play calling. I think Vick was doing a lot of the play calling Tosh. Is a was is. And we'll always be terrific recruiter. But he I don't know how great of coordinator he was this year. But if the end of the day, you do have to feel badly for Nick, I mean, you know, he needs an offense of line coach, and he's got a subtle for God from you know, who who coached it was kansin where they never develop offensive lineman. So it's really it's a tough spot to be. I think we will even we will continue the pity party. And I'm sure a lot of coaches around the country are sending him condolence cards about this turnover. As he tries to get above average coaches to finally join the staff and elite level tale as well. Terms of turnover. There is some as well on the college football playoff selection committee R C Slocum, the winningest head coach in Texas. Am history is joining the thirteen member selection committee this spring along with Arkansas State Athletic director, Terry mohair..

"About our show here. In-season finebaum is isn't assessing. But off season is usually where salaries are earned and chaos. Reigns. I mean, we're we're in the business where you know, it was twenty four seven three sixty five. We we don't slow down either. So we're we're all we're all in this together. Right now, we are. And you know, we we're not in. We're not interested Connor in what's going on nothing. We want chaos now. Do we really need it this week, probably not? But we may have it. Let me let me start by asking you about a story. We didn't expect in the off season. And that's the apparent hiring of Steve Sarkisian at Alabama. I I've always liked the sequel. But man, the the original wasn't all that great. It was also very short. It was. And it's weird to see that faith in is potentially be revisiting. That's when we thought a couple years ago that it was it looks like a bridge that was burned. I mean really to have this position. And then it just automatically dip out go to the foul. Phones, do that whole thing and talking fans, obviously, we're not happy start teaching Bama fans probably following along. The struggles of Julio Jones getting the ball in the end zone or getting the ball in the red zone. And this is a team that really didn't thrive offensively would start Qizheng. And now to have him come back. Interesting work with saving. I don't know the terms of how they left things. But it's very surprising. You know, you talk about saving giving people second chances is really like third chance for Sarkissian in college. I mean, you know, we all know what happened the first time. What you is. You know, when he was out at USC, and then to to have this kind of now where it seemed like that chapter in his life was over. I it is the prize to see that this looks like it's going to happen. But I mean, just when you think Bama is boring and Obama doesn't have enough storylines..
