"Because they have all the money and the money takes care of everything if to if the golden state warriors said we're thinking about trading draymond and sit him down. Nobody would question. Did they'd be okay. If draymond came out tomorrow and said you know. Speaking of which i'd like out. I'd like to go play somewhere else. They even warriors fans would destroy destroying league would destroy him because he's a very vocal guy and he's got a reputation for being a little bit of you know mouthy or getting technical. You know what i'm saying. Here's reputation as a what's the way. Well how would you describe feisty. Being kind player on the court and because he's outspoken people would rip him to shed. Why would you want out of golden state is. If we've walked in his shoes correct he would be destroyed if gold states that they were going to trade him there would be an set him down. Put him in street clothes. Not many people would dog golden state other than the draymond green fan. Say why are you getting rid of that guy. Or maybe it's time or maybe but we do treat a different and we do treat each personality. Different jj watt could do no wrong. He wanted out of your. Nobody's saying one negative thing about it. And i get it. Because of the dysfunction to this front office but perceptions everything with this and the problem is or at least. It appears that way the problem is the nba doesn't get the same flak as the player or the team doesn't get the same fact. Flack is the player win. The player decides you know i've had enough. And this Steve sarkisian get it at sports. Seventy dot com the interview on the blog And part of the reason. I asked him about to us. Not only would he coached. But what if to is here did his opinion of to Not the want him instead of watson but would steve. Sarkisian is opinion at key named about ten quarterbacks that he's coached and said the to the most instinctual of any of them high praise. He had reason to praise to anymore because to play for him anymore. To is in miami. So the question is before i get to some things i want to ask you guys about. Twenty twenty one. Do you feel more comfortable if you didn't like to. Do you feel more comfortable if he was here. It doesn't really change anything me. it's nice to hear. Obviously that your coach. Say that. But i like to. I've always liked to. I just will have always until i see it be different than what my belief is that he can be a really good quarterback. I just don't see that he's going to be this shawn watson level player. That's and that's unfair to him. I understand but we're we're also coming off the texans if they traded this player are trading away. One of the best young players. This league is seen in a while and it would just be. It's hard to feel better about what you're getting. What about you tyler thoughts before sarkissian and after sarkozy's onto makes me feel a little bit better about two but as far as the option here goes i get to keep the shawn watson. I'm going to keep more without obviously. That's not fair to two and it sure as hell isn't fair to compare the two because of far better player than the other one is right now. I mean. I don't know if that's ever going to change. But assuming watson was gone of the options that they're talking about him to would you rather have did did start convince you that he knows about sam. Darnold didn't coach him but knows about him. Do you of the options of the jets. They're san francisco. Are you still to a darnold. Garoppolo of those three. Who did start convincing the more. Because he said he's instinctual to would be mytalk choice. Probably next to sam darnold. And the only reason i say next to sam darnold i fully believed that darnold's going to end up being a lot like tanna l. Where the second you remove. Prove it. yeah you're right about that all right. So that Steve sarkisian at a lot of good stuff to say about recruiting. If you didn't hear it again sports ninety dot com blog. Ask guys in all three of these major sports in twenty twenty. One start with basketball. Your bold i don't care. If it's locally or nationally chock pick. I want your boldest prediction matter of fact you can give me one locally and nationally with the rockets and with the nba. The boldest thing will happen in twenty twenty. One is what tyler start with. You rockets i in an overall nba. To the boldest thing is going to happen and it's a little bit of even if you want to call it a little bit of a hot take not something that's crazy like the rockets are gonna go on and win six straight nba championships unless you're nuts but a bolt rockets and then an nba whether it's a major trade. Somebody's gonna sneak in and win the nba tie bold on both. Get one of each. We're going to do it in all three major sports. So start with the nba. Tyler rockets i for the rockets even as sellers. They will make the playoffs as the eighth seed today. Mc that's pretty bold. I was gonna say if they end up. I think the boldest thing that i could give is that they find somebody that's willing to take on air gordon's contract. I don't think there's a lot of bold. Unfortunately that can come out of the rockets. At the moment my bold prediction for the.

"Yes that's something it's got to happen soon. All right so let me ask you this. Should we do what baseball does and once you're on campus you got. I mean you gotta play. What is it college baseball. I think it's two years as opposed per might be as they three now because you've got to be three years on campus and for football wile. Here's another thing i don't get. Why isn't uniformity if we change it toward highschool obviously baseball players. Football players can't high school. Baseball players can go right to the draft without going to college. Basketball players should be allowed to do the same thing. But if you decide to go to college i would like to. I would like both. The uae isn't baseball and basketball uniformed in college sports. I don't get it. Yeah baseball is after your junior year case. So if you're twenty one years or a redshirt. Sophomore three years on campus not three years of playing but three years on on campus correct. That's i think that's the way. I mean like football. If you red shirted his freshman and played two more years you can leave as a redshirt sophomore. So that's three years on campus. So why in the world don't we. Why don't we let make baseball basketball players. Why can't they do the same. Why can't they go to the nba in highschool once they leave high school. And if you decide to go to college wouldn't college basketball. Be better or it would be a healthier sports that you would be easier to invest in because guys stick around for a little bit. That would absolutely make the game better. Well back in the days with dave you know. Tim duncan guys. That were finishing. Listen i don't want to restrict the guy from going to say in all sports. Go when you want to go. I mean you know the the the the right to choose your career when you want to choose at once. You're at what hit eighteen years old yet football. We're never gonna see that a guys leave and go from high school to for instance. If let's say who's the number one recruit like when tua left highschool you think somebody would have drafted him even set foot on alabama's campus would you would you invest in the guy. I wouldn't no. I wouldn't like i wouldn't that sport to me is more difficult to say. Yeah i do that in the first round. But i think that maybe you'd probably get some somebody that you know. Living in extreme world and say let's let's draft a guy out of high school. We think he's we can go and develop him. You'd have to have a minor league system for that you would think right. You would think that's not going to happen but in basketball. I'm all for if they want to leave high school and college isn't for them to go to the nba. The once you make the move to go to college i would. I would like to keep him on campus longer than one year. wouldn't you. Yeah tyler what do you feel about that for basketball. If they're gonna go to college. I would like to see something where they have to be there at least two years. Yeah like the college football yeah. At the same time for basketball. They should also be given the option to come out out of highschool agreed players that come out of high school for basketball. It's really the only sport other than maybe baseball where they are ready. At the age of highschool now the nfl would never be able to take a player right out of high school. Their body just isn't fully ready yet. But they would they would get killed. And you'd think oh the minor system like man the guy six four to ten coming out of high school if we had them as if we haven't been a wide receiver quarterback we can develop him over the next three years and have them ready to play time. He's twenty right if you would think that if you had and then some of these players some guys listen. I've played we all seen highschool guy you have been to a high school camp. Somebody's things like you see a rivals one hundred or go to an all star game. Somebody's dudes are like yet the differences. That old man's strengthen eighteen year old fully grown man feels like he's fully grown. It's like two thirty five and runs. There's still a different approach right. It's dangerous dangerous all the time. I don't see us ever changing the rules for college. Football players ever. I don't see us ever saying. Hey listen if somebody wants to say. I want to go play high school football. Nfl player mc mentioned. There's a minor league system. I don't know how you can make that choice. Unless the freak show comes along once in a while right mentally and emotionally. You're not ready for that as a as a football player you just not. I wouldn't think for the most part. Is i mean. There's always the aberration but for the most part that the development mentally and emotionally as a football player because of the physicality but basketball. Well it's it's not on the you know the type of context what we're talking about baseball's different just like golf and the rest of it but i would like to see once you made the decision if you didn't go to the nba. After high school that you were able to go to college you had to stay for minimum minimum. I would like you on the same. I don't know why football and basketball aren't the same when it comes to once you've decided to go to campus and committed to it why you can't play for wildlife. You get to leave once. You're on campus. If you think you're an nba guys a freshman. Then go be an nba guys. High school got let that happen. But once you decide to sign a letter of intent you have to stay on campus for three years the nfl and finish. I would like that. I think it would be better for college. I think it would be better for the development of the player. Because if you think you're gonna if you're gonna be a lottery pick out of high school as a freshman. There's more likely you were that guys as senior in high school as well. We need to allow them to go to play in the nba. It's collagen for everybody. But if you've made the decision so you know. I could be a lottery. Pick but i wanna go play college basketball north carolina kentucky or ucla university of houston. Then you gotta stay on campus. Three years three years i would like that. I think i think we're ever going to see that again or is it going to be just. It's a free for all high school freshman year. Saw it's a free for all where now not only we're gonna lose guys coming out of high school but we're not even going to get him for one year freshman. I mean you've gotta if you're going to give up something you gotta get something. If you're going to get something you gotta give up some. I would like to have them on. Campus for at least would make college. Because we're gonna leave. That's the case. If we just let him leave players leave high school which. I'm all for after high school with college. Basketball is going to be so watered down. All the best players are going to leave soon but then again you say well if you make them stay on. Campus three years wooden guys. That aren't even good enough to go out of high school. Try to make themselves for the draft. Cause they want to get paid. I think we'll see a lot of these guys. Were seeing already. That are going to go the other route of playing professional basketball somewhere else. Yeah make some money doing like. You're watching jay. Sean tape is a rookie for the rockets right now. But he is he's twenty five years old. He went to ohio state. Played oversee like i. I think you'll see those kind of guys all over the place. Yeah so basically they can beat the system anyway. They want right. Yeah i mean if they if they want to go play regardless they can leave after their freshman year they okay. I can't play in the nba. Then i'm going to go get some experience. Get paid if that were the the new rule but the one thing is for sure college isn't for everybody. I have no problem with an nba player. Going to you know heading to a high school player at the end of his eligibility heading heading to the nba. I just don't. I know it sucks. Well we've got a four. You can't force them some kids. Don't they go to school to what earn an education or to be good at something so you can water and eleven right for the most part and for the fun college experience but if somebody wants to. They're good enough to earn a living at eighteen years old playing in the nba or nineteen years old. Why would we stop them. If that's what they wanna do. I i don't. I wish there was more of a commitment once. You're on campus to stay on campus. But i do not like opting out with three weeks to go in a season when you're not hurt and it's not because of the pandemic your teammates. That's just me. But i do get why people don't Disagree with that. All should look after himself and be selfish. I understand doesn't mean. I have to like it all right sports. Talk seven ninety. "Who has tune asean basketball in this. We are three and five against them in the last wayne. So i get all that. And i in you also failed to mention a national championship and five or six elite eight appearances or a couple of final fours now. So what's the solution okay. Well i'm just asking you and then i'll hang up and listen to you so i wanna ask you Do you think that alabama fans would put up with coach saban being five hundred against ranked opponents in the last five years and also that he had a losing record against. Let's say auburn. That's their main competitor in. Sec has a losing record against them in the last five years Do you think that the university of alabama would put up with that. See when you look at kentucky. We're the gold standard in basketball. Just like alabama has football and so. There's what i want to ask you. What did you say. Well i appreciate the call and a folic kentucky basketball my entire life. I think it's it's really premature question to ask. I think if john kerry had a couple of bad seasons then it's a fair. It's a fair conversation but right now this is. This is an abnormal year. Do you realize that in today's ap top twenty five came out that has alabama number eleven. It is a first time. I believe in sixty or seventy years kentucky duke north carolina. Ucla in kansas. Those are easily among five or six biggest programs in the country over. The course of time are not listed. This is very strange year. I'm not saying it's all covid. Certainly it has had an impact. Hell can you explain that seriously. We'll be right back. More of your phone calls at eight five five two four two seven two eight five to listening to paul finebaum show podcast and we walked back. Glad you're here on a monday afternoon. In joe is up next calling from houston. Hey joe joe you there this feeling of talking to yourself. One more time joe. Can you hear me. How about Let me see here. I'll get somebody eventually odd. Dennis is up. Next in oregon. Hey hey dennis. You're on the air. Go right ahead. i'm a ninety year old is in san. I've talked to you a couple of times for sure. And i just wanna add. Add the accolades. You get it. I we really get said pick. Sese did for football and i'm very happy that missouri joined the sec and got out from under the arrogance of texas in the money sharing here. You know what that texas aggie people call the texas people know. Okay well dennis. I appreciate you saying that. And it's great to talk. And i'm we're in. We're in oregon. Do you live grants. Pass at southern oregon. Beautiful country railway famous fishing. And i won't bore you with a geologist of and Have moved west. And it's the best thing i ever did but I lost my train of thought here. Could i ask you a question. I wanted to. I took i'm fascinated by geology in the sense. So what did you normally. What would you do as a geologist. How would you mind okay. And i had a good career. I was blessed with bust with friends that support me yet and just It was a good good move one online. And what i wanted to say okay. I was impressed by the superb way that the sec officials held seasons scheduling. They did a remarkable job. You know they made it. They made ever other converse. Look the way. They handle things no they did. They did dennis. It was a difficult juggling act because once once the game started being postponed they had to. It wasn't like one school they had. They had to juggle five or six at one time. And one day we'll maybe get some of the commissioners with some of the assistant. Commissioners are associate commissioners on who played a role in that. Because it was a marco. Marco amac and larry templeton played the biggest role in trying to figure that out. Marcy i think the associate commissioner the sec. That's his job and it was a tough thing to do or difficult thing. Like i said they did a remarkable job. And and you know. I watch you every most every afternoon after i go to the health club and so Just to appreciate what you do. And like i said i. I'm i'm really glad. But zoo john going to say it's been better great. Move for them and Fortunately they took. They've taken some beatings but you know they. They've had some pretty good seasons too so basketball this year. Oh their basketball team is fun to watch dentist. You take care of yourself be well. Out in oregon. We'll take a break here in a minute. We've already had booger mcfarland. Great interview with him. And and the conversation with steve sarkisian. We're still talking about here. "The award as the top assistant. You're now the head coach at the university of texas. You've been through quite a journey since leaving the west coast do you do you have. Maybe you don't have time to stop and think about it. But i think we are curious. Just what what you must be thinking because you have had one of the most amazing runs here in the last couple years at alabama and now you're one of the storied programs in college football a lot of folks. Frankly head candid you out. Well you know. I've always been a fighter. I think that's probably the first thing. I've always tried to hold onto as a trade of mine but the reality that was you know we go through things in life and we get a choice every day of the attitude. We wanted to brace for the situation that we're in whether they're self inflicted wounds or something from the outside in and i just chose the attitude of by recreate myself. And how do i try to be the best version of whatever. The best version of steve sarkissian looks like every day. And that was the approach you know and that was it was about my mental makeup. My attitude how could it be the best coach the best whatever it was and how i treated people and i just kept digging deeper and trying to find new ways and the result was i never knew if i was going to be a head coach again but grew slowly but surely gradually. I started recognizing that just probably and might happen again now was well. Let's make sure it's the right one and Said no to supply had some opportunities interest level. Might not have been where i needed it to be. And then when this opportunity came metals humbled honored that to think that i could get back to this point and i just reminded myself the day. I took this job. This is not the destination just to become the head coach at the university of texas to say all right. Great i made it. It's now what am i going to do with the opportunity. And how long can i be. Here how great this this this university in this football program and get back to where it needs to be so yeah. There was a moment of okay. Great this is cool. I'm on the head coach at texas. But there's a lot more work to be done. There's a lot more in my life. That i know i want to accomplish. There's a lot more people in my life. I want to have a positive impact on whether it's players coaches people you're connected to so my approach to the daily grind approach to who i am as person hasn't changed you know i'm humbled a monitor. I get to wear this sweatshirt where this logo every day but yet there's more work to be done you know. This wasn't the destination just to become a head coach again. It was now that i am in charge of a program again in an elite program in the country here at the university of texas. Now what can we do with the opportunity. So that's been my focus. Now it shifted some. And i i really believe in a short amount of time. We've already had a really good impact on the current players on our roster and shift in a culture and in an avenue of where i wanted to go in an incredible story coach steve sarkisian from the university of texas coach. Thanks for not only sharing Your time with us but really sharing your your life story. I know a lot of people have been inspired. Just listening to you in the last couple of minutes all the very best. It's great to talk to you again. Well thank you paul. Thanks for everything you do for college. Football so awesome. Thank you thank you. Coach steve sarkissian. Wow what a what an amazing interview. We had with him from the university of texas. We'll get your reaction to that Blown away by that. Let's take a break more of your phone calls and more to come as we continue here on monday.

"You back great to have all of you here and coach key. Be joining us shortly. Let's check out dan who is in connecticut. Hey dan good afternoon say good afternoon albion. You think god yesterday's game right you think It was it was the chiefs offense. It didn't show up the player with emphysema just It was a combination. I think you have to start with the defensive of the bucks. It was just unbelievable and we had booger mcfarland on earlier. And i don't recall seeing a more suffocating defense. Booger said this he. He felt like mahomes. So i had a pretty good game but he had nowhere to go after a great. I mean i just feel like that you know ample just when it came down the third stopping them and thirty dollars just to to to good and i think that was definitely play the whole game now. I also think the the the the tampa defense just got frustrated. Two times made fatal mistakes and especially at the end of the first half. I you think tom. Tom brady will receive. He'll be back next year. I would i call me crazy. But i i will always bet against someone repeating. I don't care who you are. And i know with brady. There's this there's this air about him that he can do anything and the reason why that is around him or over him is because he has done anything but at some point they'll have a really good team but the nfl is is is about as cannibalistic. As gets i. I would take. I would take it would take field versus tom. Brady right now. i am just last question. I'm just wonder do you think yesterday. Then pat will have any impact on. Patrick is moving forward next thing you know i think he you know listen. He's won the super bowl he. He's lost the super bowl and he nearly got to the super bowl two years ago. So i don't think so. He had he had. I mean he said he had his worst game. Ever you really a team sport so you have to say that but that they still look like a great team to me. They just had a lot of issues down the stretch. I mean they were missing key players. But that's part of sports sports. Hey thank you very much appreciate it. Let's check out. Amos who is in tennessee and you are on the air. Ams go right ahead. Hey mr finebaum first time caller tune into your show bunch throughout the years but again i mentioned on their on a. Ut can't is going up to the hill before i Before football game. I can't remember. I think it was two years ago. Well we coversation but it's it's good to talk to you. Thank you very much Yes sir i just. I feel so bad as this game was going on last night I feel so bad. For andy reid and the stuff that he has to deal with off the field concerning his sons and i don't want to engage in gossip here. Mr finebaum 'cause i don't think that's right but i just hate this follows him I in philadelphia and then with with kansas city. And i just think there's a bigger problem with his with his voice there that Good lord listen i. They're not my children. So anything i say just my my opinion but i think sometimes when you've had issues like he has had with his children you try to help them do everything you can. And in this case it it was the most inopportune. There's never a good time to go through what we all what that family is going through and and by the way. I don't mean this disrespectfully. But i really don't care about the read family. I'm far more concerned about family. Who's who's sitting up right now. Hoping sheild survives right. Yes sir right there with you. I just hate. I hate to see the damage that there's tons of in substance abuse has done a boat to the refaeli we're seeing seep over into it to the fact other people and aim is as. I say that. I've seen it firsthand. I've seen it up close. I don't know if there's anybody who hasn't maybe not directly but but certainly cl- we've all been close to it and it's a terrible thing and i i don't wanna come off the saying but but right now i'm not gonna throw a pity party for a guy making millions of dollars a year. Who sons whose son has been self destructive versus versus the victim in this case who is hanging on by a thread. Right yes sir. This horrible thing addiction is just it seemed over into affect other people's lives and and that's what i i mean. I used to have a friend who was very involved with the mothers against drunk. Driving is twenty five thirty years ago. And i heard her say countless times. That when you get behind the wheel and this is the cliche here but you're endangering people you've never met before i mean. Forget yourself that's your. That's your decision to make. But you're you're no longer innocent in this but the people that you affect our folks on out on out on the street on your street and that's the tragedy of substance abuse it it. It affects everyone. But i'm glad you brought it up. It's something to think about and You wish you can't wish it away with all of us in our lives. I've seen it firsthand. it's rough. Thank you very much for the call answer. Thank you yeah bet. Great to have you on. Let's let me trying to figure out what i'm doing here How about mason next mason. you're on the air. Go right ahead. Going on paul man. I'm just wondering you know. Are you gonna say. Brady's not gonna come back the championship when the dude has a better percentage of coming to the championship and steph. Curry does hit a three. You know what i'm saying. I really don't know what you're saying mason because Just just because what you've done in the past is not necessarily going to predict the future. I mean the odds on him doing what he did. We're insurmountable and i frankly think they're still pretty long because lebron doesn't win the nba. Every year tom brady didn't win. Yeah i mean. I'm not saying nick. Saban doesn't win every year. So i was i was up. There was only talking about next year. And if you wanna if you're more than welcome to i'll tell you. I don't even bet but i'll bet you i'll take the field if you wanna take tom. Brady lo que next year. Gotcha and see next year. Brady's gonna be back. i'm sure he will. And by the way. I probably would have been against brady this year shows you but you know all i'm trying to say and shared even talk about it. These are not easy things to do. And i think sometimes we get caught up in the moment nick. Saban's going to win the national championship every year. Well he's one six of the last twelve. brady's percentages. Maybe even a little bit better than that. Curry's is not that great. Lebron's i mean they're all great but you know tiger. There was a time in golf when tiger was a serious threat to win every every major he played in and but he didn't he won four in a row. He he then he missed one. A professional sports is rather difficult so is college sports. Speaking of that the man. Who helped nick sabin win the national championship this year. Calling one of the most masterful offense game calls in college. Football history was one of the greatest offenses is no longer at alabama. He is at the university of texas. And that man steve star qizheng will join us next to listening to paul..

Espn had them at number nine and others have them a number of thirteen others being sporting news and two four seven. Cbs had them at fourteen usa today. Had them at seventeen. I tend to think you you're closer than they are. So what is it that you and i see that the others don't that were being realistic. I mean i think. Us's one of those teams. Obviously that will always benefit from the brand. And i'm guilty of this myself at times where you when you're looking at like early top twenty five so you just give us cert team search than while we know they're gonna be talented. Us's case i'm sure the people that are ranking high qian's lowest grace. But if you actually watched usc this past year. I have pretty high expectations for them. I thought they would win the pact well and of course. They almost did but they were. They were not that different than the past clay home. usc teams. I think you would agree. Like very underwhelming play down to the level of talent competition and then so many of their best players either turned bro or or not using the senior year. So slow is back London is back the like all. I feel like all their best defensive players. Glad i'm not sure what you would look at the terms of the guys were going back and be like. Oh yeah. that's a top ten team. Yeah i don't know if. I would see them as a top ten top fifteen team. I think i would have them in the top twenty five like you said slow. This is back. He's played a lot. They do have still talented receivers. They have some talented skill guys. I don't think the pac twelve his heart to me. The pac twelve is pretty shaky even by pac twelve standards at this point so i would have them in the top twenty five. But i probably have the i guess. Usa today was the one that had the further down at seventeen. That's probably around. i would have him Somewhere in that range by the way. I have some encouraging news for packed while we get a lot of like self defeatist How bad is the pac. Twelve kind of come on this show. Bill connerly recently came out with his returning production ranking so instead of just like returning starters. It's it's actually based on what the who the starter who the starters in every else is going back like. What have they actually done. And i was it was interesting. I mean first of all a lot. More teams have a lot more coming back because of the for your availability but the pac twelve in particular the returning production rankings for twenty twenty one number one in the whole thing is louisiana but the number two is. Ucla number five is washington state number. Seven is oregon state number as utah nine as oregon number eleven arizona state or twelve colorado and number fifteen washington law. More very good but the point is if like me you believe that the deep the backbone for a good seat or the sign of improvement to calm. I guess the most important part of your team. That wasn't very good. But you're young and suddenly you bring back most of that team. That's a pretty good sign. You might be poised for a breakthrough. I did note that indiana was very high in his returning production. Rankings last year. So all this way of living if what do you mean if you're like you you are like you. You did your twenty five and none of those teams were in it. I'm saying that. I think the conference as a whole would be will be better. I would guess i mean. Ucla at one of these teams Ucla tom maybe Certainly i mean in my top twenty five high in my top twenty five like some of these teams probably will be top twenty five teams but in general like if you're looking for signs of hope will the conference be better next season. I would say how can it not be when like disproportionately even cows in the top twenty. I think probably what happened was because their seasons weren't real seasons like they barely played five six games that more of their seniors opted to come back. Then then you know maybe team that were senior. Felt like they got a full season. Rei from kevin am in west linn oregon as another round of the cushion. Carousel wines. Down i find myself. Roy is ever more frequently. When i hear the coaching justified. As quote the guy who developed some big name player usually qb if they have good players that position. They referred to as whispers at that position. I feel like many fortunes of may because coach was in the right place when a great player came along. Do you think coaches get too much credit including promotions for the success of players. Probably have done just as well for another coach is a good question I think the answer is somewhere in the middle of this. Like what are you going to define a good coach. As as by. I mean do you think i would use the example. If there is a guy i who takes players and you could say this about for example iowa state. I feel like you could certainly say this about iowa where there are a guy as who were not seen as highly touted To start is maybe we're restore guys. And they turned to all americans or first or second round picks. I think those are things that get celebrate you know. Could i mean we add sark on a minute ago. And when he was talking about reggie bush some of the players there. It's like it's not to say that you could coach them and they'd still wanna heisman but you know there is a i think there is to be said for when your players are just that much. Better you know. It makes your job easier. I think the part that i think is telling though is when a You know a position coaches with a player. And maybe that player flourishes in that position coaches thirty more. You're wondering what happened to that guy. I mean i think it's you know it's all anecdotal but again what are we defining it off of. I mean i know this when i You know if. I'm if i'm tweeting out. Something about this coach is going to get hired at this place You're kind of looking at. Why did they get hired unless you were told by the head coach is i'm hiring anybody you usually go to the bio and bio will give you a note or something because you're basically trying to explain to the audience okay. Here was the appeal of this person. So i think that s to do. But but kevin's point about like your quarterback whisperer if you You know have had a couple of players. I mean i don't know i look at Norm chow for instance. He had a bunch of really good quarterbacks at byu that he worked with but then he goes to nc state has philip rivers but then at probably one of the things that i think he would have with his fingerprints on is he had carson palmer and carson palmer before chow got. There really was. Like i think his interception touchdown ratio is one to one and his last year. There ended up winning the heisman. So you know how much is factors. And how much is the individual coach amid. It's it's really hard to say but at the end of the day i mean.

"But i'm sure many of you did and played in loved. It just reminded me like like it's just part of the college another Yet another one of those things about like geeking out on college. Football is when you've stayed up to a four in the morning building out your year Northwestern dynasty mode team to take it to the bcs championship game is that you're all time lauren. Moment of or lasting memory of the day trial lasting memory. I mean look. It's been a long time since. Since i even had a video game like that i had a place to play it on but a console. That's right And i think it was. Oh five zero six reggie. Bush was on the cover. I remember that yeah. I took that northwestern team to the national championship. Just by figuring out that there was one play a slant. Pass that if you snap the ball and immediately press down on the x. Button is as hard as possible. Gabby catch over mental break for a touchdown like every it was the the playstation version of the to to jerry jeudy album offense last year like the slant is open every time i had one where i used to cover the elite eleven every year when it was in a lisa. Va ho which is in orange county And it was much more informal much smaller but a would sports would sponsor it and so it was. I think they had the game a little before everybody else. Would it would come out. And so they had a bunch of not a bunch but a few station set up. And i remember there was a break and i was just kind of sitting there looking at you. Know like you could play while you're sitting there or whatever and then somebody walked up behind me. And it was one of the campers at the time who was ryan mallett or is ryan mallett and he was like you wanna play. And i'm like a sure so we played. I'm actually lost on the last play. And i remember like it was weird to have like a trash talking back and forth with somebody. You don't know who at the same. Time is lake covering this. And so i was like i don't know if i like him or hate him at this point in any way so i don't know if it was enduring or whatever But that was a. I don't know it's it's funny to now see like my son has gotten into madden. You know and it's like you can play madden on your phone and Just sit there and it was like you look at his roster and he's got like Luke falk is the quarterbacks almost stuck win but on his roster when you just see how it really How far the game has gone. How far the games have come since you know what i remember that there's a video game and i don't think you'll even remember this. But it was just basically in the days of lake atari where they were like. I don't know if you may five on five football and were all in the same color you know. It was like a blue team against the red and the figuring it was like you could kinda run one version of an option play. Where you'd run your quarterback run to the bottom of the screen. Everybody would follow the you and then you can pass the ball to the top of the screen when she figured out. Ooh this is work because then they're not gonna be able to keep up with the other guy and just did know where that went compared to where the game is now Yeah i think it's. It's very nostalgic for a lot of people in a lot of levels very cool I look forward to. I hope i hope but they do get the name called football. Twenty three twenty four. Wherever that's going to be and i also think that they should put out one time only once they're allowed to covers for all the players who would have been on it. Had the game continued. Joe burrow tweeted yesterday like all he wanted was to be on the cover of of nca football then as soon as he graduates they Course you would have been on the cover this year so give. Joe burrow is covered in baker. Mayfield has cover. Lamar jackson his cover One time only thing we should probably get to our guest to back to the pod and a second but now a word from one of our latest sponsors. You may have read about this in the new york times in style magazine or forbes or any of the magazines that i know you look.

"By jokes. I'm stewart mandel. Joined as always by bruce feldman. We are recording on signing day. Part to the february signing day. and we're a-list guests. today bruce. The new coach of the texas longhorn. Steve sarkisian will be on in just a little bit anything in particular standouts you about signing day. The thing that you know obviously a lot of the heavy lifting. I feel like ninety percent of the heavy lifting now obviously goes on in mid december but the thing that stood out to me was and we touched on this on our i touch on this a little bit on our fox show on. Tv is just jim. Harbaugh for all of the the noise and the negativity that surrounded the michigan program in his his tenure there In the in questions about whether he was going to be the coach finished really strong. I mean if you look at what two four seven now has them with a top. Ten class They pulled in three big defensive lineman just today which is significant four star guys to go with a five star quarterback in jj mccarthy. They got earlier in one of the most dynamic players in the country donovan edwards running back end xavier worthy whose argument the fastest receiver country. Those guys earlier on the offensive side of the ball. So that got my attention. I mean to get to get a players library. Sean benny today. George rooks another big time. Defensive lineman like they have a staff shakeup. They have a much younger staff now and we'll see if a translate the field or how quickly it may translate guests. Your hope is that a lot of those guys can come and make an impact right away because if you watched michigan our say the past two seasons bizarrely this past season like i don't think it's the issue is is entirely coaching. Like bringing in some new coaches and michigan will be able to win games. Next year recruiting slips there were mrs. You know whatever. The ranking said like clearly the roster that they have right now is not what it was early in his tenure so top ten classes a great sign. Can they get. Maybe some of those guys to fill some obvious holes. They're missing especially the weather. Defense regress so badly right. And i think that is key because as you said They had some highly ranked classes before the class. From two thousand seventeen was a top five class. The class just two years ago i think was ranked number eight in the country. So it's not like they hadn't been getting some highly touted guys but you just kind of go through the list. Some of the five stars maybe at best played like four stars and some of them. You know Ended up like two or three star guys. So i think that's gonna be key that those players need to show up on saturdays and really be developmental guys too so the other big news this week had nothing to do with signing day it had nothing to do with actual college football but at long last. Ea sports under popular demand for. I don't know how long now how. How often do you get the i get emails. You get emails one day bringing back. Nc football what are they bringing back into football They shocked us all on tuesday morning with the twitter announcement. That sports is in fact bringing back college. Football lit up our staff a slack channel. Like nothing else. Now if you get into. The fine print is not going to be called. Nc football. he's not i. It's ea sports college. Football there is no deal with the ncaa. We're not yet at the point where you can put the actual players in the game. Because an i l. legislation is still stalled But they at least have the rights to the stadiums the logos jerseys Like i dunno like you've played the game. I played the game. We love the game. If that's i think that they're that all the nfl stuff will come through in the meantime however it takes two years to develop this game that hopefully that'll be aligned up by them but if not would you still be as excited for a game. That is you know michigan state with a bunch of generic players. I'll be not like the thing that i go back to some of these. Ea sports games and we all have or most of feel have some kind of personal connection to the games and one of the things that i loved about some of the sports fans especially in one of my favourite games was the nhl games like i remember nhl ninety four ninety five. Whatever where it was. I just felt like because it was connected to be real players with real abilities It just was different. Right just felt different. That didn't you know. I don't know just having the logos and everything. It just feels like it's not gonna be the same thing. I think people are super fired up. I think the enthusiasm may if this takes several years to come together but again. Like i always thought that i mean they. They had to settle a huge lawsuit over having used the players. Nate likeness without near us. Their names but if you're if you've ever played nca football you knew exactly who that this was vince. Young in this was pat weight and with their by their numbers So there are like they're never gonna start that game again unless they can be absolutely sure that they're not going to get sued again So i was a little surprised that they're going ahead with it now but it but i do think it's kind of like well. I'm not a video game designer. i'm sure it takes a long time to design a game from scratch and you wanna at least get started on that inhabit well into the process so that if in sometime twenty twenty two they can reach a deal to get compensated for using their likeness in the game that you could update it pretty quickly. But i don't know the coolest thing about tuesday was that and we published a roundtable on our site was just like all right david ogden and chris. Benny and chris come all these guys talking about going to walmart at midnight on the day that the game would come out or you know all their friends getting together and playing and seeing who could turn their mac school into the five time national champs may listening here have never even heard of this game..

Every time it's always seventy and perfect inside the truck and things. I want to say thank you. Michelle have fun. We'll be watching appreciate it as always. Thanks dan later. Dad's michelle to foia. Nbc sunday night. Football sideline reporter. But she'll be there on saturday night all did we get the pronunciation on minestrone. Paul okay do you wanna do this now. We have already or we can do is. The soup is minestrone on mice. Icee ministro okay is there's two options minestrone minestrone. Yeah now an italian percent just text me said you're both wrong. It's like minestrone a but you have to add in a minestrone might be right. I found a website where this pretty famous italian chef helps you pronounce foods and stuff and italian but who wants to go minestrone minestrone on or minestrone well minestrone. I mean it's our french. That's a little more like minestrone. Hey minister minister on. Hey i'm gonna say minestrone but it's like mozart. How like it's not mozzarella mattel. How are you ready for the unveiling area wound joedono. Eeo are looking at how to pronounce the typical italian pronunciation. "You know behind the bench. And then of course we're i probably grabbed him right after the game and they're taking their time down to me and finally went out throws to me you know he's now let's go to michelle in that instance malcolm butler decides. I've waited long. And i'll probably taking off. I have to chase him down. And it's i've never looked back at it. I'm told it's kind of humorous but we did. I chased him down. I got him on camera But yeah i you know that. That was kind of remarkable. But you've chased down. You don't know you're on camera like we can sometimes see the wide shot of the field when the game is over and then all of a sudden we we can see you like it probably gets physical where you got a box out. People don't you. Oh there's no question. This job is way more physical not so much this year because we don't have that space to cover but it's way more physical than people realize running around that you do have time chasing coaches the whole bit. I also marvel though when you have to talk to a coach who's lost and it's a big game and trying to find just the sensitivity level. It's a completely different tone like how do you you know you. You almost have to gear up for it because you almost have to feel their pain. Put yourself in there. And what is your process on your spot on with that Good for you damn you wanna come to buffalo and work this game. 'cause you've got it all figured out how no i'm gonna watch. I'm gonna i if the game was in tampa than i might go but no not buffalo. Well you know you do you gear up because it is a painful moment you don't you don't really know how the coach is going to respond in. That moment and different coaches are different right. So you you you kind of go through your mind about. What do i know about this coach. What do i expect the the reaction to be to my questions. How it's body language tone of voice. It's the ward you choose. There's a lot that goes into it but you're right. It is completely different interview and far less fun. What is the difference to do you. Notice a difference. Lamar jackson and or josh allen. At this point this year as opposed to last year. Well i think. I think just on the football field. Lamar is just a better passer than he has been and also he's a better decision maker than has been and i would say some of the same things for for josh that you know. The accuracy was the question he seems to have gotten that Is on track and just his ability to make the right decisions..

"Reggie wayne go the wrong way and and peyton through the pick six. Yeah that'd be. Good too with. Ben roethlisberger would i say ben roethlisberger. What's one throw you can throw to beat. Arizona was spectacular. Really and i think it's underrated because you don't think of ben as this thing at quarterback like you just you don't think of him and all of his throws and what he does yardage touch. It's just been sorta this king kong back there where he's fending off defenders. He somehow extensive play but that throw. I don't know how many quarterbacks in the history of the game that could throw that. Put that ball where he did throw. That is incredible and ended up winning the super bowl because of the yom mclovin. That's fun exercises the one throw every quarterback would russell wilson's i to say would it be that the bad one which is totally unfair because he's had an unbelievable career. Yeah well if you think about. Brady's one throw that comes to mind is. I'm thinking the one where he missed. Wes welker in the super bowl threw it over his head back. That was well welker. That could easily been on welker trying to think elements catch the because that was based off adamant that had nothing to do with tom did he threw it but eshelman is the one that made those great catches does brady have a signature throw in his career. How a job on tanna does he have that jonathan taylor. I mean that won a super bowl does elway have a signature throw. Here's a helicopter spin. Does that was the signature run. A probably the signature throws the drive to beat cleveland. I'm guessing that is interesting. Aaron rodgers signature throw. He's had a bunch of regular season once where he's like one at the last second is it that they hail mary mary. Yeah now maybe steve young te'o in the first round of the playoffs that that was big. That was big. But steve threw six touchdown passes against the chargers in the super bowl. Although i can't really remember them if you're too good you don't get into. Yeah it's one of those where you go. I don't remember. He threw six. But i don't know if. I remember any of them. I remember sitting in the end zone. In the superdome broncos niners and watching montana throw it to jerry rice and you could see the play unfold and it was. It was just magical. 'cause you're watching and you go. Oh my like. I'm watching it from behind the defense. And i go. He's gonna throw jerry where that's a t touch a bit you know. They just sort of see play develop developing you go. That's exactly how they do this. I'm watching back clip. Brady's first super bowl. Patriots rams twenty seventeen and john madden. I think is calling the game. He says they should just be careful. The not try to do over to play for overtime and brady. Has i think it was a third dow so troy brown. That's right troy brown twenty three yards to get the ball down to the thirty six yard line moments after john. Man said they should be careful with young. Tom brady new play for overtime. All right let me take a break. We'll get to your phone calls coming up. You guys have been very patient here. We also talked to michelle. She was great time. We had her on and be sunday night football analyst. She'll join coming up..

"Star Jason had a veto on a Thursday 83605 nineties, the phone number We'll get to some additions to the Steve Sarkisian coaching staff in just a moment, but just one more thing on the Longhorns despite the loss. I love this roster like I absolutely love everything. You the three headed monster of those upperclassmen guards Jericho. Sims is great on defense. Absolute beast. Make the free throws. You have some MBA talent guy, you know, high end Greg Brown. Kae Jones brought Cunningham Energy. I just love everything about it. That's why I started thinking I was like this could be my favorite Texas team ever. Don't give up on that. And, yeah, I'm not giving up on that. That's what I'm saying. Is that this is you know, let me have a midseason stumble. Andrew Jones was so hot he was 463 pointers. He had one shot in the second half. I don't know what's the deal with that was the only took one shot in the second half. Anyplace. 34 minutes. Remind me of kind of be John Robinson under our former coach, Tom Herman. But I don't know. I'm just I'm I don't know either. I'm pumps still pumped about that this season and everything. My thoughts from yesterday haven't really changed. Disappointing Yes, causing me to sweat through a comforter and all my sheets and pillows because of fever. Dream Night sweats last night after the loss, Yes. Do it is my opinion changed from yesterday? Hell no. Hell, no, not not either my money to be because I think there's still have a great team in glass half full. I mean, I'd rather have that happen. I mean, look, dude, Greg Brown one and done. That's how it feels to lose to an in state rival at the last second, because you know your team didn't finish right. I'm glad that happened there instead of the big 12 championship or somewhere in the actual tournament, which they're going to be in this year. Dude, come on. Yes, I hate that. I hate that That is now a bar or something that we even have to consider. But yes, they will. They will make a T in Indianapolis this year. I'm pretty confident. On. Yeah. What? You know what happens in the next couple of weeks. Let's let's see where they're at out When we get to that Baylor game on, Let's see, you know, you know all the technique. I got a lot of tech friends and there are coming out of the closet putting up but I'm sitting. I'm sitting in one right now. You know, I just got sent by some of my tech buddies. Let's just see what happens in love it in a few weeks. Okay? That's what I'm talking What happens in love? Yeah. Uh, these that that's such a sad But did your Texas Tech friend asked for permission to use those babies likenesses know? Yeah, he's texting behind my back. I'm sitting right here and I can't even get in on this one up. No, I'm texting YouTube. He liked that one. Vito did not Have sex with that basketball over that bastard. Okay, we could move to football where Steve Sarkisian has has added names to his coaching staff. Kyle Flood, I guess today it has become official has joined the staff. The office of the Offensive line coach of Alabama will be the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Texas. We knew this like a week ago, right? You see the guy that was instrumental in helping bring the broken Maher. Brothers dollars? Probably seven. Probably quite likely it Zwiers toe. Have your offensive coordinator also be the offense. I mean, look at the start. Sarkeesian. Sarkissian is gonna be the offensive coordinator here, right? He's gonna call plays calling the place And so, Yeah, he's the offensive coordinator, but I guess you gotta put a title. On somebody around there. Well, he's somebody I hope that you know, his O. C is basically an extension of him. He can run the practices. You know, Coach starts going to have to be the CEO and go be everywhere, right? Right. You can't just focus on the offense. When you're the head coach. I think you know he's going to be heavily invested in that offense. And that is why this brings up what's going on with the defensive coordinator position like I feel like this is Well, when you when you get Sarkeesian, and he's going to run the offense, good. We're covered on that side of the ball. Seems like the next most important position is that D C job? Chris Ash still has not, I don't believe been informed about his status at Texas. Some people are saying that he might still retain that role. I understand Urban Meyer wants him. Tiuna come and coach with him with the Jags. It's been offered a job. By Dan Mullen in Florida Urban Okay? Yeah. You're not only you're not allowed to. You know how to flirt with us, Jesus. So we block him into our face about how you're staying retired for health reasons and then coming poacher to poach our guys. I don't think so. I just don't know if this is gonna work to the guy's never been a professional football coach has never been around. Professional football camera setting. It's just this thing when he starts yelling at somebody to louder for I'll take away your scholarship. Say, man, I got no scholarship here on, you know, I agree with you, and we're gonna circle back immovable talk about urban, but but I want it. What? What are we doing? What are we waiting on with this defensive coordinator position? I don't know, but we've only It's only mean technically are we've only had a head coach for two days. My my expecting things that no, he said all gas, no brakes, veto all gas, No brakes. Hey, Ed back me up on this or help me with this because I think we've been all gas so far. I mean, yeah, look at the vacancies that he's created and then filled And my question is point of inquiry. How many have we poached from the Crimson Tide already? Well, so that's another one. Today we will learn Jeff Jeff Banks, and I want to know all about that. This is a good gift. The tight ends and special teams Coach for the Crimson Tide Jeopardy guy. Thanks. Yeah, Considered a new elite recruiter, particularly here in the state of Texas spent the last three years at Alabama five years with Texas. And and before that he recruited Kyle Allen, Christian Kirk. Several other guys for the AG is there. So Yeah, that is. I mean, if you don't talk about strategic hires A guy who's never coached in Texas and Sarkeesian. Perfect. I love it. I am sort of wood. Random aside. Why would you leave Alabama to come to Texas? I doesn't matter. I'm having of Ray's getting a race. But I think, same position and I mean look, the brand is still strong. I can't challenges all coaches, air nomads, All coaches, Jr nomads. I really believe how many of them are back along. Well there. No man may be vagabonds. But all coaches like they move. They move in. They groove all the time. One thing you said earlier about Sarkeesian in the offense. One thing saving did. Sarkeesian was left alone by saving, understand and reading and talking and hearing on TV. He was totally left alone on the offense Saving would go to the defense of meetings. Meet with the defense of coaches, but he would virtually not have much time with Sark..

Coaching search updates: Kevin Steele the favorite at Auburn
"Obviously we're in the middle. Coaching carousel to and i think the most interesting one right now is auburn I think they spent twenty one point. Five million dollars to buy out gus malzahn. We could argue whether he should have been fired or not the end of the day. He lost the momentum there and they the boosters put the you know got out the hat and collected the money and they fired him. So you think okay. You're gonna fire Coach gus malzahn. All that money. You're going to want to go out and get like the splashes possible coach. You can get tell us who's actually leading the coaching search right now as we reported this morning. That sources are telling me that the front runner for this job right now is defensive coordinator kevin steele and while that may blow some people's minds. He has some very very influential people at auburn who are big believers in him and in his corner at auburn. Especially that matters right so look We have a story up but the athletic now about who's in the mix there and the ones. I think one of the people who is really a big contender against kevin steele on this front is lane. Kiffin at ole miss But i think he would have a hard time turning that job down. I think he's obviously a big name. Now he's foreign four. It's it's interesting in that. I think a saturday's game between ole miss and lsu doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. You know outside of those two programs. But i think it may may need a little bit of something potentially at auburn as crazy as it sounds because for some people at auburn i think they could shape it and saying all right kevin steele dreadful run as the head coach at baylor twenty. Plus years ago he was one and thirty one in big twelve. Play at baylor is a long time ago but people. I've talked to down there have made the case where you know what at had a bad record. The first time he was a head coach and he just won a national title a year ago. And my my counter. That was well. He did have to times as interim pretty lengthy runs where he was at least able to show people he's evolved and grown and those people said look a people at auburn feel like kevin steele's been the guy who's hold it together for them the last few years he is very well respected within the scc And so also know how. Attractive is lane to auburn. He did a really good job at fau their foreign You know if he loses to. Lsu's not very good this year. He's foreign five. I think probably diminishes a little bit No its first year. It wasn't like anybody expected out all messed great. But he's definitely a candidate As billy napier from louisiana Maybe who freezes is somebody that that auburn would push for. I think and you still have steve sarkisian there. You know also in the state of alabama So it's a really interesting. Search in auburn is wildly unpredictable. What does but From what i heard they would love to have a coach Decided upon by the beginning of next week
Jones, No. 1 Bama roll past No. 22 Auburn 42-13 minus Saban
"With head coach Nick Saban sidelined by the coronavirus Matt Jones passed for three hundred two yards in a career high five touchdowns as top ranked Alabama manhandled number twenty two Auburn forty two thirteen Alabama started a string of three straight touchdowns with Jones a sixty six yard scoring strike to divine T. Smith who had seven catches for one hundred seventy one yards now G. Harris ran for ninety six yards including a thirty nine yard touchdown jump to the third quarter scoring passes while assistant Steve Sarkisian ran the team in Stevens absence the tide approved tonight or no drop attackers to five and three I'm Dave Ferrie
What Will Coach Nick Saban's Absence Mean For Alabama Football Game Against Georgia On Saturday?
"To Jordan Rogers Course the Tennessee Kentucky game to mark Jordan. Let me bounce around a little bit and everybody's talking. Around the country about Auburn about Obama and Georgia and Nick Sabin. You've been on the field with head coaches and you how important that position is except nick? Sabin doesn't really do much on the offensive side, but he does a lot on the defensive side. What what would what will his absence mean? Demar on that sideline? I think it's huge and I would argue quickly Paul I. Think he does do a lot on the offensive side. I have able to sit down and watch a ton of Alabama TV film writer TV Games because we're I'm usually broadcasting a game remember back when it was Lane Kiffin Colin place remember how much we saw them but in heads and communicating on the sideline. So there are a lot of adjustments in feedback that Nick Sabin Gibbs. To operative coaches but again, the defensive side is going to be missed most here's what I'll say I like I. Haven't seen good teams have great game plants going into Games. Great teams make great adjustments in. That's the difference with Nick Sabin, his ability to adjust in game going back to the National Championship game against Georgia pull the plug on. jalen hurts put to a ton of low in. That's a big adjustment that you see so many. Small. Adjustments that come from the minded Nick Sabin in game because he's done this. So long at such a high level things that people don't see that he's able to see and he has an instinct. So that's where they're gonNA miss him the most in a close game when adjustments need to be made and as well on the opposite side. Right? You've got a guy that good of defense he's going to walk over to Steve Sarkisian go hey. If they're playing this coverage. Here's where the week I'd go this right. He's GonNa give subtle adjustments and hints and tips to what to do on both sides of the ball. So I think the the presence, not only from a figurehead of what he means to that program, but the ability to adjust in Game I. Think it's a big loss.

An athletic director Greg Burn, both learned Wednesday they had tested positive for the Corona virus Saving is currently asymptomatic and immediately left the team's facility Wednesday upon learning he had contracted the virus. Georgia that game now up in the air, though the SEC has already seen to contest in the conference for this weekend, postponed until December because of Cove in 19 cases within programmes,
Detroit Lions release iron man safety Glover Quin
"Me time the lions released a safety Glover Quin who started every game last season for the ninth straight year, the Broncos notifying Brandon Marshall, they will not pick up his option. The linebacker will become an unrestricted free agent next month and the bills are released veteran tight end. Charles clay Steve Sarkisian returning to Alabama's offensive coordinator position. He held the twenty sixteen team national championship game loss to Clemson his last the former Southern Cal head coach left to become offense coordinator, the falcons window cleaned house firing Sarkisian and defensive in special teams coordinators after a seven and
"steve sarkisian" Discussed on Championship Drive
"You're right now, so far you have to assistance that are held over. But then a lot of Aken sees Steve Sarkisian has not been announced but expected to be the offense coordinator primary play caller for Alabama. Hearing today that there's two candidates for the offensive line. Vacancy is Brent key went to Georgia Tech to be with Jeff. Collins those candidates are Kyle flood the former Rutgers coach who work with Steve easy last year on the coaching staff and an interesting name is Bob BOS dad who right now coaches linebackers for Wisconsin. But really built a reputation as a offensive line coach with the badgers, and then went to to NFL teams work for Greg Szanto. I believe with the bucks and somewhere else. So Bob BOS that is a very respected offensive line coach. So he could be moving in to Bama, they need a receivers coach we're hearing that Craig a cooler Gauss ski their defensive line coach is unlikely to return. So that would be another vacancy on defense. And so it's going to be dramatically different staff. Few of the assistance are expected to return from this year. But we knew about Mike Loxley. The real surprise guys. We mentioned Tate Martell going to Miami. And we thought this might help their cause for Jalen hurts. But Dan, he knows who was expected to take over the play calling from Mike Loxley on the offense of side for Alabama. He went instead joining many as at at Miami as their offensive coordinator and play collars. So Alabama needs a new quarterbacks coach if they're Qizhen isn't going to coach that position. I would assume he will. But that's another vacancy on this. And Josh Gaddis was supposed to go to Maryland. That was the thought follow Loxley. And then he went to Michigan and on record is talking about kind of the chewing that he got from saving when he said he was going to Maryland and wound up going to Michigan. It is look you've got seven players who left early for the NFL draft as well record for Alabama who still had some time left eligibility left Ivan is this the coaches in all this constant turnover. Nail. Nick Sabin as long as he's there. That's things are going to be great, or at least they're going to be competing for national championships every year, but as this turnovers this more about coaches using Alabama for a springboard to other jobs, they go there it serves its purpose, and they leave or can we connect the dots that it's just hard to work for an extended period of time under Nick saving. Mad? I think the answer is. Yes. It's all of that. It's tough to work for Nick. It's always been tough to work for Nick one thing that's apparent though. And especially in this case Steve Sarkisian is coming back guys who leave come back to work for him. So it can't be that tough. You know, and the other point I would make certainly some of them use it as a springboard. I think in touch loopholes case is Adam pointed out, I think Golding was doing a lot of the play calling. I think Vick was doing a lot of the play calling Tosh. Is a was is. And we'll always be terrific recruiter. But he I don't know how great of coordinator he was this year. But if the end of the day, you do have to feel badly for Nick, I mean, you know, he needs an offense of line coach, and he's got a subtle for God from you know, who who coached it was kansin where they never develop offensive lineman. So it's really it's a tough spot to be. I think we will even we will continue the pity party. And I'm sure a lot of coaches around the country are sending him condolence cards about this turnover. As he tries to get above average coaches to finally join the staff and elite level tale as well. Terms of turnover. There is some as well on the college football playoff selection committee R C Slocum, the winningest head coach in Texas. Am history is joining the thirteen member selection committee this spring along with Arkansas State Athletic director, Terry mohair..

"Welcome to another episode of the falcons crossfire podcast. This podcast is not like our normal ones in this format. We pit various writers editors against each other on a variety of topics for today's podcast. We have some familiar names. I he successfully unseated Gina Thomas last week in his very first crossfire appearance. He is back to defend his title. He is one of our writers who is a regular on the falcons live our weekly Facebook live streaming show. He is none other than Eric Robinson. Eric how you doing? It was a fluke, man. I got lucky. Go overboard. A all right. I I really did get lucky man, gene is going to be back pretty soon as she's gonna take her rightful place on her throat. So I'll be in more than likely, but with for now we will celebrate the victory. And you have to defend that victory today against fellow writer. So today Eric goes against one of our writers at the colic. He is also a regular on the falcons like live. See if you guys tune into that over on Facebook. You've no doubt seen him repeatedly on the show and his great analysis, and he's making his very first crossfire appearance. He is none other than on each on. How you doing man? I'm doing well. I'm doing well. You know, it's it's a nice mild winter, and I haven't had to get the jacket out very much this year. Indeed. It's been quite quite nice went out for a walk in shorts and t shirt so glad to do that. All right. Here's the format for those who have not listened before or those who are new to this. The combatants will debate six topics tonight. Each side will get exactly sixty seconds to make their case after both sides have made their case each person will be allowed a thirty. Second rebuttal. There. No rules of decorum. No limits on that Hominum. Just good old-fashioned in your face debase. Are you guys ready to begin? All right. So we discussed the topics ahead of time. We have six topic selected Eric is going to start. He'll be our starter on this first question and the question is this. For the two thousand eighteen season was Steve Sarkisian the offensive coordinator Atlanta, Falcons, primarily to blame for the offensive woes this year. Eric you've got one minute to make your case go that's easy. No. I mean, if you look at the numbers you have Matt Ryan who's third in league passing yards? Julio Jones lease league receiving yards. So some things have gone well for them on office this year. Let's not forget about the fact that they lost both starting guards. And because of that Matt Ryan is you know, the arguably one of the one of the most pressure quarterbacks in the league right now. I think they're in a bottom half of league in sex. So it's kind of tough to blame the office coordinator on situations like this when office of line is really planned so far. So I mean, that's pretty easy right there to me. I don't I don't think Sarkozy get the blame. I think some things have gone good for them. Not to mention they've had a very lackluster running game loss. Devante Freeman for most of the season. But yet Matt Ryan is planned his best ball since his MVP season end sofa Julio Jones, so. Don't that's not point fingers at sorry is not all his fault here. All right. Excellent. Comes in the wire, I'd non just before warned. I will give you a ten second five second..

"Where prohibited. News. Here's a little something that you missed from the Ben maller show. Steve Sarkisian, the offensive genius. So the Atlanta Falcons Atlanta went from a Super Bowl team a juggernaut on offense. And they bring in Steve Sarkisian. They were mediocre date were fifteenth in the NFL in points scored twenty one point six a game. Now, they've started the year with twelve points, Steve Sarkisian lane kiffin, my my opinion. Neither one of them's good as a coach. I I don't understand. I do not get the career of Steve Sarkisian lane kiffin and I follow these guys since they were young guys at USC on Pete Carroll's coaching staff. Can you still live off heat perils allure in the coaching world at what point this someone to say? Let's see what these guys have gone since they left Pete. Caroline USC. Pretty what I understand at least a lane kiffin thing you say well. It's nepotism. His dad was an NFL coaching legend Monte kiffin, the Tampa two defense and all that back in the day. But I mean, the guys are drunkard. Why do we need to have Steve Sarkisian and coaching? Is it get another job get a different job? He's not good at coaching. How many times do we have to talk about? Listen, I don't work for the falcons. But if.
