That's the question Mark. Eric Al Merola brings his Smithfield forward in the Stewart Haas Racing Colors will slide to a stop in for the Steve Post. Throughout the course of this run, right side work is done quickly around on the left side, left side tires off left side tires on the grill, No visible chassis adjustments there. Current down the role of the Smithfield colors. Don't turn away to your point. They will have to pick before the end of this stage, but they may not them. But at the end of the state, setting themselves up for the one stop during the final stage, a lot of strategy doing playing up a little cat mouse down here on when everyone is going to come in. Let's keep track of our top six and write it down. Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin and Austin Dillon. They are running right together on the racetrack. Why do we need to document this? How good can they get the car off the racetrack Slowed down onto pit lane 55 miles an hour and get the crew to come over the wall. Four tires field. Get them back out. They gain a spot, Lose a spot. This is The overlooked guys that could win or lose for you today. Absolutely right. You cannot afford a penalty on the pit lane. You cannot afford a hiccup by one of the crew members. It's a tough gig down there to be a NASCAR Cup series pit crew member. You sit and you make sure you pay attention to what's happening.

And then staged to Kyle Larson has just decided to flex his muscles and he's just trying to drive away from everybody. And now we see William Byron come off. The racetrack will follow him in a moment, but Since the end of Stage one. It has been all about one driver, one race team, and that is Kyle Larson, driving a Hendrix Chevrolet, and he has now led 101 lapse. We knew Green flag pit stop. We're gonna be coming up because Steve Post in Alex Hayden said so And right now we see William Byron on pit road and steep post is there Cindy? This is the first of scheduled pit stops. Stars on display here today absolutely is and these drivers Much like what Dylan was talking about the more seat time they get the better off. They're going to be. Certainly some race tracks, suitor driving style better than others. You could think about Tyler Reddick. If we raced at Homestead Miami Speedway five times. There's a good chance he's gonna win four of those five races that just fits his style. His other tracks become a better challenge. Toe, try to conquer and try to get the feel that you need to get around certain racetracks. Think it's confirmation of what many had suspected along the way and my understanding on it is what I'm hearing is they're not gonNA look far from Stewart Haas racing There's some other drivers out there that that that are that are certainly in the mix. But when you when you look at what Chase Briscoe has done in the xfinity series, he's done everything asked of him and I just I just think I think it's an awful tough call not to put him in the car after what he's accomplished this year in the extended series. Well, my thing is, is that who is better? I mean he he called his shot at the beginning of the year saying that he felt that eight cup winds or eight xfinity wins set him up for Ryder the Cup series David I'm hard pressed to come up with somebody who's got a better finishing result this year to go in that car well, Y- when he said that preseason that he thought eight wins would get him into the conversation I. NASCAR: 2019 Monster Energy Cup Guide

"Has been an entertaining eight races so far in the twenty one thousand nine Monster Energy Nascar Cup series playoffs. Two races to go and Phoenix plays host to the final cut off race of the year. All the drivers. Those six that we mentioned are gonNA make last last ditch efforts to make the championship race at homestead. And Moran's Woody Canes D Post and Alex Hayden are here to recap the Texas weekend and how it impacts what we'll see in the cup series this weekend in Phoenix Okay mic. Well Steve Post is here from pit road for the motor racing network. Alex Hayden is here from the booth for the motor racing network. And we're you're talking playoffs playoffs boys here. We go so after Texas things kind of got a little weirder than we expected we roll in now with two who guys locked in Kevin Harvick. Who by the way has won three straight fall raises at Texas Martin tricks junior got locked in the week before? Then you get down to the best of arrest Category Kyle Busch twenty two points to the Good Joey Logano twenty points to the Good Denny Hamlin now twenty points. Underline Blaney and Larson Twenty three points joints under the line and Chase Elliott way back seventy eight points behind the line. Let's start off with denny and Chase Steve. It wasn't a week ago that most people a lot of people were going Denny Hamlin. This really might be as year. He seems like he's peaking at the right time. One of those people was me I was I was just convinced. A one of the challenges and I think one of the challenges we've seen with Denny. Alex all up jumped out at upper case. Because you know any better than all of us denny is a the great race car driver extremely talented but one of the challenges. He's always had his in this playoffs and incomplete honesty. The question has always been his his his mental toughness. Okay and and I know a couple years ago. He lost a championship and it was like the wheels fell off from him. The wheels fell off from everything else. It didn't look like we had any of that now and it's still like the mental toughness. Is there it was just mechanical stuff. And things like that but Alex when we look at Denny. He appears on the outside that he's got everything in his life buttoned. The upper everything focused on it but right now he's got some ground to make up he does. And you know it's crazy because I'm trying to think back and I have been for about a week now for crying out out loud. Have we ever had. A playoff warner was had more twists and turns and that was just one driver but with multiple drivers. You're right what he won't get any Hamlin was the guy to beat and a lot of people already saying you know what. He's the favourite to win this twenty nineteen championship but after what we saw Texas. I think it's just a piece of humble pie. Hi for everybody that reminds us in this. Anything can usually does happen. If that unpredictable. Every single lap actually matters it's in for Denny Hamlin to to come out and have such a solid bid stage of the playoffs to have some drama now and find himself on the outside looking being in Steve to your point mental toughness. It's GonNa come into play so Dinnie at attract a one mile race track at his first Ever Cup series. Poll was right here. Sure At at at I s raceway Phoenix. Where we're going this weekend? He's got a little bit of history here he's got a little bit of comfort zone. Here doesn't matter where the start finish line is now the delay out of this race. Track is exactly the same as it's always been so denny Hamlin's gotta dig deep and he's gotta find that mental toughness right now and I think one of the things he can rest comfortably on which is really strange. Is that a week ago. He was in the same spot. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were pretty pretty comfortable on points. And I think Denny's got a bank on. Well look what happened to me and maybe can happen one of those guys to and You know but but the reality of it is twenty points. Sounds like a lot but someone has a problem in a stage. Denting wins the stage. She's cut that in half forty point swing at forty exactly and I think that would be needs to look at. He had a forty point swing in Texas one of those guys in front. All of them could have a forty point swing and Phoenix. All right you guys were talking about the crazy. Let's get to the other half of that. Chase Elliott a playoff win to blown motors a broken axle and and a crash. Alex has anybody had crazier playoff stretch. Then Chase Elliott no next and I hate to laugh and I hate to make light of it because I mean tastes in that race. Doing all they can but they can't control mechanical failures and that to me is what separates nascar racing from other stick and ball sports. Yeah you need team effort unless it's a golf or or tennis or something of that nature but in racing you gotTa have the team you gotTa have the driver talent and the ability but you also better have some some hope. That lady looks going to be on your side because there are thousands of moving mechanical manacle parts. We're dealing with machines and sometimes things break. It doesn't matter how well they're built pieces of metal will break sometimes and chase Elliott's learning Dan. He's learning it the hard way but that doesn't mean he's out to me. That's kind of the beauty of the way we do things in nascar racing determine our champion you basically got three strikes strikes well he. He's used to be swings already. But that doesn't mean he won't hit a home run on the third pitch right so for Chase Elliott and his fans don't were you got one last shot at it come IFM raceway but boy. Oh boy he's GONNA I don't have to hit the baseball heart. He's going to have to hit it I long way. Here's crazy. Crazy to the guy crashed at the rover. And once that's my that was my thought. And after that role he he crashed anyone the race and I said this guy has momentum desk game set match. This is going to be spectacular to watch how good chase Elliott is the one thing and I chatted with chase I think it was Talladega. And he said the one thing about when you're you're behind his you know what you have to do. They go there when they roll that car off the truck into that garage area. They're going. They're just for they're not staged pointing. They're not doing this. They're not doing now. Alan Gustafson and chase Elliott know that they need to be in the lead on lap three twelve or whenever we throw the checkered flag and that's the only goal and so there is a degree agree that that does define a little bit closer what they need to do. Where when you look at the other guys? They're all within twenty three points. They could be in the middle of that race running calculators others and doing math because one of them had a bad stage or something chase Elliott. It's simple for him going to go on. Dia some woody. Let's talk about. Sim raceway specifically. You mentioned any Hamlin in his comfort level there Alex one of the things he said over the weekend I thought was really interesting. It is still the same race track. But with the way restarts there are now with the new positioning at the start. Finish line. oftentimes you're starting restarting in the turn itself. And then you're fanning out five six wide before you gotta funnel it back down again. That's going to add to the whole level of crazy there. It absolutely is and when you look at the the last handful of races that I assume raceway in Phoenix. We've had a lot of long green flag run so those restarts at the conclusion of the stages or any caution flags for that matter They're going to be absolute chaos. So I love okay. The the thinking is here because if you have the chance to be a part of the championship four on points you're going to be awfully nervous when those restarts come around if you're chase L. E.. You got nothing to lose your relaxed. Go get it but you gotta be careful all the way around this place because if you get into the fence racing a little too aggressively or balance off of another car and have time maybe cut a tire down. If you have to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop. It doesn't matter if you need points or if you need a win the bottom bottom line is chances are your race is going to be over. So there's GonNa be some puckered up race car drivers on restarts remember because nobody nobody wants to be the guy that drops lug nut on the four tire change or can't get the car review order. Have the Jack Fall off out from underneath the Jack Peg on the side of the car. Little little tiny mistakes can absolutely not happen if you're one of the championship contenders all right. Mike there you go alex and Stephen. I've just solve all the world's problems now we'll just have have to wait and see how it plays out this

Now, the good news for chase Elliott is he did not lose a lap in the exchange. The bad news for chase Elliott rusty Wallace. Is he now is getting caught by the race leader to potentially go a lap down. Well, I'll tell you what he got really lucky not going laptop. And right now, he has that really hard to try to stay in that lead lap every time. He comes back past our booth, right? Did start finish line that back in is out of that car. It's loose. He's hold on for dear life by the right now. He just open for a caution flag come out. So we can get wrapped all the way around to the back of this field. Get some four tires fresh tires that car. We are watching a battle developed for the lead. Ryan blaney. Kyle Busch Ford versus. Toyota headed to one down about a Kyle Busch down. Kathleen himself, and why am gleaning put it at four Carlos. Waiting right now really struggling to get through some of this lab traffic and this allowed Kyle Busch to close it now to within free car legs as they close in on Michael McDowell McDowell keep his car at the bottom of the race track. The race leader's tighten up once again off turn four across the stripe lap. Thirty three goes on the board. The fight to the league goes to one two exits off the dog. And Kyle Busch's. They're older. Traffic including Michael McDowell Chris Buscher, and then chase Elliott who has made his way through some of this traffic and works to get a spot on the wall is just ahead. Here they come now working back off her number four nose to tail this time lady right there. And then you've got Kyle Busch right there. They worked down to the inside of some of the lap traffic proven to be a bit of a tough customer there to get around. Ryan blaney. Bush was. Right on the rear bumper.
