"These lies. Let's be reminded that by tuesday roughly ten. Pm pacific time. Janas could have one less finals than k. d. one less finals. Mvp than k b but another regular season mvp over k. d. so let's not act as though is at the age of twenty six is not already on the heels of who is maybe the greatest player or the most talented player in the nba. Right now i say he honest his legacy has been built by this moment more than anybody else because he came to the league fifteenth overall pick. Remember jaanus only started twenty games rookie year twenty. He didn't come into league. Is the number one overall. Pick like lebron. James didn't come into leagues. The number two overall pick like michael jordan janas came in the league having sold cds in greece. Just trying to make it dude was these chose. He will he. He was a second lowest rated player onto from my games watching this show. If you didn't think he was sorry in real life. They thought he was sorry on the game and now he's transcended into way too time back to back. Mvp nba mvp in just slit when we started to sleep on and say you know what is games limited now. He's averaging thirty two thirteen in the nba. Finals here's the only problem with krabi. Books legacy would have grown in could still grow if they win the chip but sell if they don't win the chip all book has to show for. It is a couple empty calories a couple of meaningless forty point games. Yeah maybe one day. We'll talk about devon booker. Is the only score score. Forty points in three games in a row and lose the series. But what's that really mean. Meanwhile we'll be talking about. Yana says winning his first. Nba mvp at the age of twenty six nba finals. Mvp at the age of twenty six janas legacy has been built. And it's going to continue to be built based off these performances. Marcella said gotta handed to. You made a strong case. I didn't think there was anybody. I didn't even think there was a conversation about this. To be honest. I was wondering why this was a top. Who in the right mind would go with anybody. Other than honest gopro but marcellus wiley presumably in his right mind went with devon booker. And that's why. I love doing the show with you You made a decent case. But here's here's the distinction. Number one devon booker. Being a great score doesn't really change. My view of him always knew he was a great scorcher holiday. Lit him up in the last game and booker was actually playing. Probably the best defense. We've seen him play as a as a as a playmaker with chris. Paul struggling they look to devon booker to be the playmaker to get the andrea eight. Going to get everybody else involved and we saw once again why. The sons never even made the playoffs when devon booker had to be both scorer and playmaker so yeah he's done a lot of things statistically that are first and this experience is no doubt going to be tremendous for him. But for me with jaanus. There were two questions that i had about him. And the reason why prior to this year i had never put him at the top of my mvp ballot and this year. I did because. I have two questions that needed to be answered. Could he impose his will on his team. And could he impose his will on the opponent. Now we saw game to as they were losing game to him. He imposed him his will on that team in that huddle. They haven't lost since we saw that. Yana sought that co breakout. And if you look at what he has done to the sons overall we've played five games. He has been outstanding in all five. He has been the riddle that the sons have not been able to figure out for all five games on the biggest stage. You cannot say that about devon booker you cannot say that about khris middleton. You can't say it about chris paul or drew holiday. There's one guy who has stood at center stage and made it his in these nba finals. And that's honest. Thought that the company. And i dare to say to you going into these playoffs going into the season. No one ever imagined that at this point we would be seeing this interesting great points once again. let me just hit you a little bit of this gumbo right here. Few ingredients. I got cooking up over here on the gap between number one and number two on his team. The milwaukee bucks janas. Chris middleton and the gap between number one and number two on the other team phoenix suns. Which gap is wider between booker. And chris paul. Yeah so it looks like the bookers carrying a little more water in this series. Dan janas is to. Let's talk about finals. Mvp it's a shared experience. Even though janas should win it. He's the favorite but chris. Milton has a little bit of arguments early. A couple of games ago. We were talking about chris and then even drew down of late has drew down. Your holiday drew has been in the conversation of some pretty epic moments. But i know it's janas trophy to share. No no to have okay. I respect that now. Let me give boy on the screen as well. Because i chose trying to tell me. Oh well he's going to have a finals. Mvp more regular season mvp's the k. d. so that means best player on the planet. I asked you this auto steve. Nash has more regular season. Mvp's than kevin durant with ever a conversation of who was better on the planet. I know steve nasty and had the final success but please don't start going regular season. Mvp's as the trump card in these conversations. Don't forget david booker. Thirteenth pick overall as a backup and fifteen pick. Overawe is jaanus kind of the same. Do but janas with those two. Mvp's defensive player of the year. How's he going to travel a greater distance devon booker. Who's just got to injured all star appearances. My last point is this. The mask is off but the nose is still broke. Devon book is sitting out there with a broken nose and it is hyperextended knee suffered. i've had both broken. Noses had one hyperextended knee. I don't wish either one any body. That is a part of this conversation as well in terms of what he's responding to let me give you a story real quick. I want so i actually her name davita atoms and she was moving. Oh santa barbara from the hood. I thought that was like out the country but it was just like two hour drive anyway so on that school basketball court kit do the head. He was my homeboy brian. Bill he comes jogging at to me like full of fire. Meanwhile i'm a national record holder and track. So i ruined around. Cramp is for like ten. Twenty minutes finally turned around dappling up like my bad big dog. I'm sorry jogging out both big dog. Worst part about it. Davita adas was there. She had to go there. Tissue me out so i'm just telling you not just physically but emotionally is worse to have a broken nose. Brian lover coming up. Is there press your. We will be able to make the playoffs this season. Answer dak mexico. Speak for yourself and now he is still awesome. Authorities miss the playoffs for the first time since two thousand eight last season. Yahoo wrote tom. Brady winning it. All in tampa bay appropriate the patriots all season spending spree record of nearly one hundred sixty million dollars in guaranteed their new edge russia. Matthew dr said bill check with leading a group of hungry willing men nothing but up from last year. That right so i is.

"It's going to be synonymous with being spoiled. You don't have to have to be spoiled spoiled autism. I says boy. These circumstances like even with nothing. I was a mama's boy. Boy you can tell me how. I wasn't growing up. Because i was oil still exploit but the point is i ain't have jack and i think right now these america's javale mcgee kelvin johnston's relatively speaking don't have jacked the rest of the world. They seen spoils of them. They are as hungry as you can. Get what a talent level that i think is comparable if not still exceeding we go places because unlike other shows you care about the non traditional american sports track and field you have to fight and claw to get on the olympic team and fight at rach claw. It is a battle. There are no gimmes in other countries. There's a spot that they can just give to somebody better you saying. He didn't have to run at the jamaican trials. If he didn't want to. They can just give him spot. We don't play that. An american track dot in usa track and field. You better go earn it. You're going to be the fastest person in the world. But if you're not the fastest that day you ain't on a team. It's a hunger in track and field because the olympics are the most important thing to our track and field athletes but to our basketball players. It seems like the olympics are chore. Not something to be cherished. A- i gotta go play in the olympics branded like a man. I read done that a couple times. Steph like yeah i mean for what if you're making two hundred million dollars playing nba basketball. It's just like i don't feel like playing in the olympics. Whereas other countries cherish the olympics for us at least it appears to some to be a chore. Otherwise we would have more superstar. So i'm worried because we're treating it like a chore cell meant the olympics again. I want to do all that. I got you right here. All right i just saw it and here it is. This is your problem. We're taking your right. The crandall cram doesn't wanna go for various reasons. You said phenomenal movie by space jam. I don't know about that boss. Baby killing beat a phenomenal movie. You need to see that too. Well look let's talk about this. Here's my parallel. We still have. Kevin durant the best player active in nba yang. Whatever or guy that livy beast damian lillard beast. Jason tatum base. Okay so let me give it to you where you can digest it please. This is like saying of the richest americans. Four of the top five. Don't want to be a part of this conversation. Okay so we got to take jeff. Basil's off in his hunting sending iberia. Bill gates gotta go mark zuckerberg warren buffett. Larry ellison you know we start off at st bomber. Does he have is great. Thank you all out greatness and you're not respected because here's what you are overlooking reflecting but here's what you're overlooking the top five billionaires if three of them came from other countries now you couldn't just scoff at the list your top five. Nba players the all. They not they but the team data that is true true. They are scattered but three five all nba player who alert from other countries. Four or six finalists in our top six. Mvp finalist voters for these six. Were not from america. Luca the joke Embiid yeah so is not as playing together. They in trouble coming up. Is chris paul and all the top smashing america if his sons win. The finals will answer that next. I'll speak for yourself can be title chris. Paul is just two wins away from his first. Nba title eleven asset. eleven time. All star had bag game for but he's still average from poison eighth assists per game during his first trip. That in being bottled chris's bag. But i choke would've finals win. Make chris paul top-five wanting to go by point guard. No sir and. I love chris paul but i cannot be a prisoner of the moment. Ladies and gentlemen. Let's talk about the list. Obviously we got magic. Number one going steph. At number two for the sake of honoring elders putting a big o. At number three. I didn't see him play. I've seen highlights. I looked up. Stassen looked up highlights. I'm putting a big number three number four. I'm putting nausea. Tom at number five. I'm putting steve nasty. Nash okay. Two time nba mvp. I'm putting respect on his name giving respect where it is. Do i go stockton. Then i go kid. And then. I go paul chris paul winning a nba finals title. Would up stockton. It would put him pass kid. Obviously kid one title at thirty seven years of age with the mavericks but a much lesser contribution contributor than chris. Paul has been to the sons team. Because i watch those mavericks. that's my squad dallas. So even if chris paul does win one. It doesn't somehow jump him over. Steve nash a two-time finals. Mvp here's what i caution everybody to do when nc. Please take this and run with it. Remember what people did and when they did it if you go back and look at steve nash's numbers now. You might scoff at him. He want finals. Mvp with eighteen points in twelve assists a regular season mvp with eighteen points out. Show in twelve assists. He wanted with eighteen points in tennessee. That means nothing now but remember what he did when he was doing it. Those eleven assists were three more assists per game than the next closest person on the list. That's back when being a point guard was kind of like alan iverson. You're scoring i steve. Nass said you know what. I'm going to go back to the traditional ways of making everybody else better leandro. Barbosa became a dues on. Mary in the matrix was due tomorrow. Stoudamire a dude. He had everybody around him better in route to becoming a two time two times and ba mvp. Chris paul many could argue has never even been the best point guard in the league while he was in the league. Oh i wanna to say face. Say some real reckless things. Bruce chris paul comes into the league. Steve nationals the best point. Guard indisputably then. There was a there were. Maybe it was chris paul. But derrick rose quickly became the best point guard. Then maybe there was another blimp there than it was chris. Paul but steph curry quickly became the best point guard. You can't find a two three year stretch where chris. Paul was the best at his position during his era and for me even if he wins a chip he's not top five. He's just knocking on the door of who while first of all our ready gotti met v. I the one thing i agree with art. Show that you said your top four point magic stuff oscar isaiah. I'm with you there right now without the title. Fis- is obviously arguable. And you brought up all these names the great players so it's arguable if he was as championship is definitive. It is chris pau period. The is now look if chris. Paul leads the phoenix to this championship. He will be only the third small point guard in the history of the league. A seventy four year history. I might add. Who has led the team to a championship. Third joining isaiah thomas and steph curry that is it and none of the guys you mentioned. Have ever done steve nass. Let's start there. He never even got to a finals. Let alone lead a team to the final championship. Now steve nash. I'm look i like nash. I got him behind. Stockton kid like nash. To me isn't even in the discussion. Here's why because these knives as great as he was and i voted for in twice when. Vp would he it. He was largely benefited from the mike dad. Tony system with nash was in dallas. He was on the decline his last year in dallas. Mark cuban. yeah.

"Floor down to one game. I need best. I need the most energetic anything. Healthiest kevin durant and james harden that i can get for game seven so no this game. A hint quickly unlike gain. Five where nash was almost like. I don't have any other choice. I we're down in the third quarter by twenty points by seventy points. I have no shot. I have no opportunity to say so. The white flag These guys he did that in game four remembering getting four where the nets a little bit of a comeback in the fourth quarter am nasty ready to substitute the starters out of the game and then brooklyn a little bit of a roll late little run and then jump vaughn couples come up. People came the steve. Nash was like amen. And now you've got those guys over there on the score table to check in for the starters but we got kevin durant. He starting to get hot. We're starting to get on a roll. Let's play a few more minutes with these guys. Let's see what happens. Is steve nasty with. I'll give thirty seconds. I'll give it a couple possessions. And then they're very quickly afterwards. Took the starters out to the was sitting there talking about this okay. Yeah i'm going to await wave the white flag. I don't need to go ahead and go the desperation mode for this time period for this point in the game because the very least we're going to go back to brooklyn to the to number good and i need kevin durant the kevin durant and i need something from the rest of these guys. He could have done that in game four. He did that in game. Four steve. nash couldn't dueling game five so the situation is the same second quarter third quarter seventeen. Eighteen points milwaukee's doing their thing that steve is like you know what pull him out. Let's get him ready flora. Let's get ready for forcing game seven. It was announced that hardens gonna play in game six against the bucks in a couple of hours again. He played hard and played forty six minutes in his first game. In ten days there's gotta be residual effects. I know that he's the elite athletes. Not i know he's got the best training in the world to get him ready to go but on one leg. Even if it's a little bit improved i don't know how it's going to be a little bit improve after the guy played forty six minutes but he can't do that again. Kenny i mean you can expect james harden to improve on what he did on tuesday in game five. Can you know no so. Where does the maintenance level lie. Was steve nash. In terms of how would you prepare for. Getting six with james harden. It'll be interesting..

kevin durant seventy points james harden steve nash twenty points first game thirty seconds tuesday ten days forty six minutes Kenny Nash nash six one game Eighteen points Five steve game six third quarter

"Eastern on ESPN radio. Let's head out to the Goodyear Hotline. Where Frank Isola who wears many hats for ESPN, you can see him on around the horn and on, Petey. I joins us. Jump back into the round two discussion. Frank I want to start with the Bucks Nets game at tips off at seven P.m. Eastern on ESPN Radio. What intrigues you most about this second round matchup. Well, you know, they did play three times this season. Harden didn't Barnetson have their three guys together for any of the games? The Bucks did when two of those games including 2/3 days in Milwaukee. In April. And you know when the Nets have their three guys available coming, Durant, Jane, Tony Currie, Irving the average I think it was about 85 points in this series against Boston and Boston didn't really pressure them. That much? Really? That was even though it was a five game series that was essentially Sweep, So I'll be interested to see how Milwaukee defends him because through holidays a big time upgrade over Eric Blood, So Chris Middleton is playing really well, then, of course, you have be honest there, so I think it's the two best teams. Two of the I would say two of the The top three teams in the NBA still standing. I think the team that wins this is going to go to the finals in a very good chance to probably win the championship. Frank. What do you think is going to happen to the Nets when they face really their first bit of real adversity? That's a great question. I've been talking about that all year long do their games on the Yes network and you know, that's the one thing we haven't seen. We know that they all of them can play pretty well together. When you know when Harden was the only one out there playing and Durant was out in, Tyree was out. The team was really good. The one thing we really haven't seen are kind of close games with the three of the mayor and how they'll perform who you know who's going to have the ball in their hands. Listen, they got three guys that can definitely close out games. You know when they played Milwaukee in April. And that Sunday game, which was a really good game. You know the referees didn't call a lot of fouls. I think the two teams combined. I think it was 26 free throws in the game, so the game had a lot of flow to it, and that one was closed. And late in the game. It was Kevin Durant, who took a big shot in an open three. Any Mr which I believe would have tied the game probably sent it into overtime, so they have played a couple of really close games. And to be fair. Milwaukee has done a pretty good job executing, especially on the defensive end, but to your point that that's the one that's like the last hurdle for this team like what's going to happen? In these really tight tight playoff game. That's the one thing in the essentially haven't experienced yet they certainly experience it against Boston in the first round. Frank Isola is our guest here on Dari and Mel. You can hear him on Sirius. XM NBA Radio the starting lineup Monday through Friday 10 to 7 to 10 A.m. Eastern time, Frank When you look at the Big three They were as good as advertised from a scoring perspective in that first round series against the Boston Celtics. Now, I don't think that there's going to be that much struggle for Kevin for for Kevin Durant for for Kyrie Irving, but Assuming James Harden does draw that match up with drew holiday. How do you think that's going to affect his scoring output and what he's able to do on the offensive end? Starting tonight? Yeah, The great thing about Harden is first of all, he obviously forced his way out of use, and I don't like the way that he handled it. But You can't argue with the results ever since he came to Brooklyn, and when he was playing really well for me. It was him and Nicola Yokich 12 in the M V P race and obviously hardened, injured his hamstring and that removed him from because he missed too many games. But he was mostly out there with like second unit guys, and they'll do a lot. You'll see Steve Nasty that a lot Today, where they'll they'll stagger the minutes so hard and could play with that second group, and he's just so good at getting other guys involved. I really do think that he's matured a lot as a player, I think in Houston Kind of wanted him to shoot all the time. You know what happened guys late in the game. You know, we're just chucking the ball up between 20 and 30 times a game in Layton games. You know you're playing 40 plus minutes. And now you're taking contest the jumpers. You're a little worn down and you know that's why the way that they played a. You said it wasn't good and fourth quarters a lot of times he just didn't happen. This is a much different things and to their credit. Kyrie can do as you guys know, Kyra can do some crazy things and Kevin Durant with, you know, off the court with the social media stuff, the whole nutty and Harden has had some stuff as well. But the three of them together, they have been very unselfish. It's almost as if they know there's only one result that is going to be satisfactory and that's winning a championship. And you know, they all wanted to be here. They all you know, worked it so they could end up playing together. So do they know that they can't blame anybody else? You want to blame Steve Nash? If they don't win, go right ahead. You want to blame Joe Harris? Knock yourself out. It's going to come down to the three of them, and I think they understand that. And that's why they've all bought in and believe or not. They've even brought in on the defensive end. After early in the season, Stephen called them out after bad loss that they had against Detroit. And really, they've gotten after it defensively. Even Kyrie. There have been moments with Kyrie. There's been a lockdown defender. Frank in 2021. Would you rather be elite on offense, like the Nets or elite on defense? Like the box? Had, you know that's a good question and of the league. Now it's such an offensive minded league and especially the way the game is called, You know, we talked about all the time Michael Jordan went to the free throw line a lot when he played, he would go. Probably the whole game he played in today's NBA. I do like the playoffs that it seems like they let a little more stuff go. But as you guys know, you watch these games and for crying out loud after every call. There's so many players at all. It's nonstop complaining. I mean, Jason Tatum is a terrific player, Luka docks, which is a brilliant player. They complained after even when they score basket. They're complaining that they got fouled when they when they miss. Forget about their convinced That it should be first degree murder with the way that they they look at the referees, but I would actually go offense. I still think you have to be a somewhat competent defensive team. And I do think both in Milwaukee and certainly The Nets are that, but I'm going to kind of go with the offense because that's kind of like the trend in the league right now. Look at what happened with the Lakers. You know one of the reasons the Lakers then when they couldn't score, you know that That was a big issue in that series against. Obviously injuries were part of it. They just didn't have enough..

"Two. Going to be jason tatum. Because i tell you one thing if brad stevens if they flame out in the playoffs and one of the folks who owned that team get the bug up his ass and says i want Brad stevens outta here. I'm quite sure if there's going to be like twenty to twenty five teams. That would be on the be on the phone brad. Stevens asian about one point. Four milliseconds after he fired saying. Hey what can we come in an interview. Your because yeah. We definitely want you to be interested in coaching our team. So i think brad stevens still held in high regard but has he runs. Its course with this certain team or has run this course with these with these players and if he has what is what needs to be changed the player dynamic or the coach getting all of that one those world and sports. I'm your host wonderwall so glad that you could be with us and be a new speaking about coaches on the hot seat. I wanna get into a little bit on the podcast today about the nba. The hot seat candidates ryan's never to Never too early to speak about that when speaking about coaches who might be in trouble whether it's the nhl major league baseball dealing with the manager nfl or the nba right boot and holder of the milwaukee bucks luke walton of the sacramento kings. Dwayne casey of the detroit pistons steve clifford of the orlando magic. All of these guys a couple of others are in the news. Total about you know there might be a situation where we might have to go into another direction where we might have to take a look and see see. What else is out there. Which one of these candidates. And i'm telling you there's more than these four that i just mentioned which one of these candidates which one of these candidates are safe are hot are basically already gone. What do the new breed of coaches should look by. Say for instance if the milwaukee bucks disappointed in my boot and holder is gone. Where do they go to look for a coach. If the sacramento kings the remedy says you know what valens going. Luke walton awarded. They don't what type of coach are we looking for here. Are we looking for a retread. Are we looking for a jeff. Van gundy type. Are we looking for a western. Sell junior type. Are we looking for a coach. Who's never been a head coach. Before i was looking for a guy off the someone staffel mother had some experience in the g. league and he's been on A staff of a successful organization. You wanna bring him in. What are we talking about. An this could really be a litmus test in terms of hiring practices to serving the league. Remember when chris finch was hired by the minnesota timberwolves. There's some folks out there told him well. Damn i mean you know. How many black coaches do we have out here in the nba and the other and that was really the first time that are really thought about that. Because again the league is so F rel hurt centric in terms of lebron james no problems stating his case in giving his opinions about anything and everything regarding socialists. Same thing with chris. Paul seeing thing with jaylen brown's same thing but they huge amount of players black players in the nba. They're not biting their tongues in the seems like the relationship concerning that between the players and the owners are strong enough to where. It's a lot different than say the nfl owners and its players association. So this is a situation. Where the first time i thought about. It was again win. Chris finch was hired by the minnesota timberwolves off the staff of the toronto raptors. It was like well. What minnesota did was not kosher because this is a situation where you want to wait till the end of the season and you have a pool of candidates to go ahead and choose from. The pool of candidates should also include black coaches. So of you're just going to narrow the one guy who just happens to be white man against black folks are giving the shaft in terms of equal opportunity. He get themselves or head. Coaching position but again never really thought about that. Because if there were hiring practices and terms of discrimination toward Black coaches in the quite sure kevin durant and kyrie irving lebron james and all of these superstar here was had some saying it. And when you're speaking about how important. A superstar franchise player is to the organization. You better believe almost all of these teams that are hiring these coaches. They're going to get their input in from the player who happens to be what black so for perfect example would be the steve nasty situation. John who was the brooklyn nets coach. After kennedy acton wood fired. You did a great job without kevin durant and without Kyrie irving when he got injured. Jack vaughn was beloved by the team beloved by the players. They played extremely hard for them. And they overachieved got the got them into the playoffs. Right got the brooklyn into the place where they hit. They'll business being there. But who's the coach of the brooklyn nets. Now steve nash. You'll think that the joe in the ownership it didn't go up to kyri and kevin durant for their opinions about who should be the next head coach. And you're gonna try to tell me the kyri who throws his opinion on everything and let his feelings know about everything. Wears his emotions on the sleeve in front of the public about everything going to try to tell me if kevin durant and kyrie irving said. Now i really do like vaughn. And since i only have two years remaining on my contract you guys really want to resign me. I think that you would be doing a solid. If you just kept jacques. Vaughn as the coach moving forward. I think that working relationship between the three of us. Vaughn irving durant think of a work. So let's go ahead. And let's just keep jukka on at the head coach if tyree and katie had that attitude guess would be the head coach of the brooklyn nets for the twenty twenty twenty twenty one season. It would be john vaughan. It would not be steve nash. So that's my deal in terms of wait a minute. There's supposed to be a if they're supposed to be issues with black coaches getting an opportunity. Not getting hired. Don't we have the infrastructure to make sure that that doesn't happen so at just my way of saying it'll be interesting to see if say for instance the detroit pistons. The orlando magic sacramento. Kings milwaukee bucks washington wizards and another's. Let go their head coaches and say i instance out of those sixteen need a head coach. Five of them are white interesting interesting because bradley beal for washington wants a black head coach. It's gonna give himself a black head coach right if my boot and holder is gone from the milwaukee bucks. Indiana said kupa the black head coach. Guess what the milwaukee bucks are giving themselves a black head coach now a little bit different in detroit in sacramento. Because they don't have anybody of any consequence. The fox is can hope and pray in demand all he wants to about the black head coach but he's not at the stature for where the organization's going to be like well and you know wants a black tillerson. Yeesh now they're going to find best head coach into the apple to be white and the air force doesn't like it. Oh well that's his problem. So certain situations calls for certain. You know avenues to go down. But.

kyri Jack vaughn John Brad stevens john vaughan Kyrie brad stevens kevin durant katie tyree kennedy acton twenty jason tatum Chris jaylen brown chris vaughn brad steve nash Luke walton

"Have we all have to understand that except that you know it's going to be a certain amount of players that have a unfair advantage because they haven't fully recovered from the previous season agreed. I mean i. I think i think Adam will understand that more this year you know. Tv partners will understand that a little more this year than in previous years because as you say The lakers in miami heat. Just finished About a month ago in terms of planning the championship game and camp starts less than three weeks from now or about relief from out so The fact that is going gonna to be getting right back into it and again some guys are gonna have had you know Almost a year off So it's going to be very interesting for different teams. I think again the fact that we don't have as many back to backs. There wasn't scenario to start in january. We would have finished in Before the olympics would have been twenty two back to back this scenario that we decided to take only only. Has this planned thirteen to fourteen. Which is the norm So we'll have just the same amount of back to backs and But as far as you say guys we'll have played for a long time and They'll they'll need a little more than usual. Gt me get you to take your mvp a vice president cap off and put your player cap on. You know we love to do with the media man. Everybody starts this whole thing up. Her stephen a smith talk about this whereas championship or bust for your brooklyn nets team. I'll see you guys get k. d. He's been there for a year coming up that achilles injury kyri guy suspensory of yourself you have charissa avert How is everything. Been thus far with you guys as a team. Obviously bonding something that needs to happen to have been difficult. Considering everything we're dealing with covid no question It has a pretty difficult last year. Katie with around a lot I was around So that helps but it's been seven eight months since the pandemic it and only probably seven Guys that were on their original squad. Went to winter orlando and The other guys a lot of them got together in la We've been finished. We've you know been in. La people have been in la. I've been in new york With my with my with my kid now in alabama louisiana. His family for the quick turnaround so it was to be. You know the owners who is going to be training camp trying to make sure we get that camaraderie trying to make sure we could chemistry down But i think the fact that guys would just basketball players. They're all guys that have to do certain things guys really just and we got a lot of guys. They just know how to play basketball. That's gonna help help us but You know the championship of bus. The talent we have. I think that's the mindset the guys going in with the mindset we want. We want to win a championship. There's only one winner you know. It's like ricki bye said you either you. I thought you left at the end of the day you know. There are no more no moral victories. When you have the talent that we have and The ability that we have so we will definitely trying to win. How how have you guys dealt with the media right. Because reading an article was steve. Nasa said this was going to be a collaborative effort but then kyrie said it's going to be a collaborative effort apps. It turned to this major story that a to say that. They're going to outdo steve. Nash and i'll see a new coaching staff. How do you guys envision of this working gonna work man. 'cause at the end of the day it's basketball We've got you know. Obviously steve nasty guy. That was a maestro on the court And then to bring into staff that he would never to assemble and coach. Antoni emai- Obviously the people that he's back You know and then being able to you know coach guys like irving championship katie. That has been. Mvp you one one two championships and then obviously like you said charissa dispensers new the andres guys that have been around Joe hairs is. If we're getting back. I i think i ended today. Things will work out the way they're supposed to and Steve is the type of guy you know getting to know him. That is very collaborative. He's a guy that asks a lot of questions. Wants you to talk. Wants you to speak up in Trying to figure out things So at the end of day we we. We can't worry about what the media says. We understand who the guys on our team. And that's all that matters fair enough. I recall the last time steve nash. Mike d'antoni got together. It turned out pretty well. Hopefully it'll be the same thing for you guys not in the west but in the east garrett temple with some great perspective the nba draft is a week from tonight and soon enough. The league will be back garrett. Thanks for joining us this morning thanks. Gt yup you got. He joined us on the shell. "SKIP THE LINE FRANKLY But at the same time I think. Leading, NBA team for almost two decades is. Is Pretty unique. So while I haven't necessarily learned some of the skills that I'll definitely seek to understand and learn as far as the Technical Aspects of coaching. Is never far from I have benefited from white privilege in our society has a lot of ground makeup. I'm not saying that this position was a was a factor as far as might prolific from position think as as white people, we have to understand the leader served up privilege of benefit by the color. March. Skate in our communities and we have a long way to go the to find equality. Social Racial Justice so. I hope I'm a great allied and that caused. Marcella. You like Steve Nash's is response to the critics of his nets higher nope. nope. No No I. Don't like you don't know and I love Steve Nash. And as interesting, doing daily radio here in Los, Angeles, for the Laker station ESPN LA when I was a host, there had opportunity to talk to Steve Nash a lot of times, and this is a guy who has tremendous heart and you you test for his character everyone respects. Not just a person but even the great player we're talking about the two time, MVP Hall of Famer Steve Nash but that response right there. Felt like a lot of pandering and let me start here. Talking about why he felt he skipped the Lai Steve Nasty, skip the line because I think right now all of this lace in a racial conversation and basically say he skipped the lie that he fast forward it and was allow privileges in that process to get to the front of that line. He's he's misconstrue this situation he does skipped a lot. He stood out in the line and then they realize hold on Steve. Nash's in line. Wait a minute. We gotta take them out just like they've done for other coaches before. And black coaches as well. Nine of the sixteen head coaches with no previous coaching experience nineteen eighty were black fifty, six percent more than not were black and everyone wants to go to the next layer all day and go to good situations. Yeah. Damn. Lock. Four of those nine black coaches went two teams that were in the playoffs the year prior Jason Key talk about Doc Rivers Isaiah Thomas Amilcar. Isaiah even took over team. Larry Bird had just taken to the NBA finals just give me your facts because my opinions take you everywhere. The Alzheimer though. Before one, thousand, nine, Hundred Bill Russell. Russell play was it a little easier or harder? WHOA. More overt with the racial tension and you think. A the timer is him in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, six, nine, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, seven after the team that won eight straight NBA finals. Under read our back. Bay say here's no team. Give it a bill russell black man in the sixties and people want still make this a racial conversation. So just to stay focused on the. The my with his attributes personally and his accolades professionally heat is skip the line just stood out in it I don't like Steve Nash addressing go responding to the critics because Marcellus there's another quote I abide by and its don't argue with fools 'cause from a distance. WHO'S WHO and Steve Nash I have some other Nuggets Steve Nash didn't skip the line because he was white. If he did skipped this line, it was again because of his MVP credentials talk about it and let me put you on a little bit of game. There have been eight former NBA MVP that have gone on to become a head coach is but I'm GonNa tell you some names which I will easily remember Larry. Bird, he became a head coach no prior head coaching or coaching experience, magic, Johnson He. became a head coach no prior head coaching coaching experience. Willis Reed Star. For a for the for the Knicks becomes head coach, no prior legitimate coaching experience. But what did they all have in common former and beat a an the peace now. Let's look at the flip side. Let's look at some of the most prominent coaches. This game is ever seen Gregg Popovich. He coaches for twenty one seasons prior to taking over as head coach of the Spurs Phil Jackson he coaches for ten seasons before taking over as head coach. The Bulls and now the most recent coast to how several chips obviously our exposure he was with the heat for thirteen seasons before being named head coach. So what does this tell me this tells me that the rocket booster the fast pass to get to the front of the line. It's not necessarily a matter in this instance of the race it's more a matter of your onfield accolades I don't even got this in my notes, but this hit me this morning. So I'M GONNA drop it to go to the flip. Side and look at football and I said, wait a second. You have some coaches that you have some players that become coaches very quickly. But then you have coaches that has to work themselves through the ranks. I look Mike variable after he leaves dominates for the patron, you become the head coach with them seven years coaching coaches at Ohio State become the defensive coordinator becomes a coach, but then I look at Bill Belichick, he had to coach for eighteen years before becoming head coach. Okay. Let me go to another guy. Doug Peterson he had to for eleven years before becoming head coach why just eleven years because he played the game but then I look at Andy Reid Doug Peterson's teacher he had to for eighteen years before becoming a head coach and then Mike Tomlin he had to coach for nineteen years before becoming a coach. So what is the? Limiting reacted, what is he contributing factor? It's playing the game or in the basketball instance that's playing the game at a high level I. Don't have a problem with Steve Nash speaking his experience a problem with him speaking from his heart speaking to be an ally speaking to say that white privilege and his opinion does in fact exist you know my opinion stated my opinion on that but he didn't skip the line because he was white and there's just so much empirical data Marcella. This stuff that I don't even like continuing this conversation elevating get for the world to continue to put embers and let the fire burn because the fact of the matter is if he skipped the line, he skipped the line because he is two time NBA MVP historically speaking all former NBA MVP skip the line Yari. Period Book I. I do like elevate in these conversations because people do learn from this aisle media has the tremendous power and influence no matter how you feel it affects you personally maybe someone around you can be elevated and this intelligent conversation so we must continue to do it. Now. Not only did not like him saying he skipped the line and not making it mayor base realizing he just stood out but this whole element of white privilege which we had a tremendous conversation on I. WanNa bring up again because he brought it up again and this is interesting. Tell me about this one he said white privilege exists but it didn't in this case and I've heard that a lot of people echoing that. But it's interesting that now there's opt in opt out button on your skin color and privilege in terms a win, it works when it affects and when it does and when it it and I find that a little peculiar almost hypocrites saying, wait a minute you're saying white privilege exists, but then it doesn't in this situation but if it exists, would it apply to you being white all.

"Somebody goes into the gas station. And they don't have a mask on and Somebody snaps a photo and the cops come out and the issue a ticket and the issue a ticket to the store owner for not requiring it. Again. I'm talking kind of middle of nowhere ish. Some people go into a bait shop in northern Wisconsin before the god of the lake. And the cop sees them in there, and they don't have masks on or they're gonna shut down the store and they're going to issue those citations or where they look the other way and say, these guys are going to get into a boat. So what? If there's a lot of looking the other way and saying So, what? I don't think there will be too much bitching about this. Now during the first set of shouldn't lack Dowd's that Evers had. I got mixed information. Remember, I kept telling the audience I was hearing from many people. That there were a lot of bars and restaurants in northern Wisconsin Open on the sly. You heard any of that? I heard that, but then I also heard from a lot of people in smaller towns, saying Mark That's not true. That we heard of somebody and order was sitting in there with a friend. I don't member of the city was a crit, Mac. I don't want to say sitting on limitless leading somewhere like north of Greenbacks, Remember getting the email and a resident called And the police came And we haven't had a place open ever since. So, obviously, when you've got all these communities, we have it If you take a look at a map of the state of Wisconsin, for those of you who listen to me out of I hard Poor from out of state our entire population. Is in the southeastern corner of the state, and what I say Southeastern. I mean all the way up to Green Bay. In other words, that's about halfway up. Go from Green Bay and then overto Appleton down through Ash Kash Father like you take it and manage Watch Sheboygan and then zigzag it over a little bit of grabbed Madison, Milwaukee. That's 20% maybe less geographically of the state, but almost all the population that other 80% There's 234 cities of some size outside of that, you know across. The thing about it is is that the business, though, is afraid of losing their license and Some of the community's going to go after the businesses and others will just look the other way. And not, but I would You know you're not gonna win if you challenge it, but I would just challenge it just to make a mess. If they give you the fight, take it to court and make your local municipal judge. You have to deal with the I have to deal with the whole thing. But as they say, whatever you think about the mask order, I don't think this is the end of it. I think it's the beginning of a whole slew of executive orders and the only thing that will stop them from being issued as if Must have a blunt about it. Ryan Hagen and stop selling us out, and he could say what he wants that he thinks Evers had the constitutional Authority. There is nothing constitutional about. This is nothing constitutional. I don't have to. I just read the executive order here half the stuff that he's promising, and it is just an absolute lie. And now by the way, he's coming on a drip and Steve nasty trying to bring the Legislature of this session to try to override the whole thing He's saying. Well, I Legislature must not care about science. Evers if you cared about science Why didn't you have a mass quarter in your first order? This. Oh, it's science Suddenly, mascots science. There's never been masked science show the mask Science. Suddenly this is now science. What? It wasn't science before. If it's science, why did folksier kids down the moment that he sat his butt down at that baseball game? No science to this at all Everything about all the reactions we have had have been political. On an extended segment. Here. Let me end it this way. I introduced the hour by saying that we have from the left right now. Ah, weird combination of anarchy and authoritarianism. They want to violate every rule. We have get rid of all of our police officers and allow chaos. The rain they want to have open insurrection. They don't want to have to follow any rules and in many communities, they have pretty much gotten away with either having the police not respond. Ordering the feds out. Even in smaller communities, essentially getting the police the cower and not want to take any action for fear. That they're going to become the next Wauwatosa. The same people have been arguing and advocating for utter anarchy and not having to follow any rules, on the other hand, are turning around in micro managing us to the most minute level that you possibly can. It is a bazaar. Political ideology that they have cobbled together. And on both levels. It's the opposite of where America has been throughout our history. We have always been a country that believes in law order. Authority and following the rules, But we have always demanded the government reserved that for serious serious things and give broad latitude Two people in the way that they live their lives. We have allowed you to be a Nazi. We may not approve of it. We've allowed you to be a communist. We may not have approved of it. We have allowed you to have every kind of goofball religious belief you wantto have made out of approved of it. We allow you to be an atheist. We allow you to be Jewish. We allow you to be Catholic. We allow you to believe in whatever it is that you want to believe it. We allow you to go in and practice witchcraft in your basement. We allow just about anything on the ladder on the grounds that people have freedoms. To do and be what they want. It's when you start to impact the rest of society. Turning up your ray your your stereo. What o'clock to the boarding CIA neighbor can't sleep. Robbing a bank that we have stepped in. The Liberals. They want to take away any of the rules that we put in place to maintain essential order. But they don't want to turn around and deny all of the freedoms that we.

"Forty two percent okay. Great performance by Zay on in the fourth quarter for three three minutes thirty nine seconds stretch he was the best player in the NBA. Is that fair to say for three minutes and thirty nine seconds the best player in the NBA in in New Orleans in the history of the note he's ever done that first player in NBA history with twenty or more points seven rebounds for more three pointers in a regular season game and fewer than twenty minutes played. Nobody's what he's ever done what he did last night in his first career game three minutes and thirty nine seconds the fourth. Quarter here to talk about all that As a man who is in New York City right now. I believe where the Lakers won last night in Madison Square Garden getting set for the nets and his piece on. ESPN's a family of Of Networks about All David Stearns memorial that happened this week in New York City was also must read stuff from Dave mcmanamon. ESPN NBA insider. How are you dave? I'm doing great rich and Chris. It's GonNa be all you got to have you back here. You guys go way back right. Chris in Two thousand two. That's right back long time ago. Syracuse is Dave mcmanamon mcmanamon. Here on the rich Eisen show So then let's Let's discuss What you made of Zion's debut and what you might have already heard from folks that you contact and speak to around the league? I mean just really happy. The way it turned out wasn't ideal for him to be limited to that strict Lynn minutes barrier and come out in the middle of this incredible. It'll run that he had when he had brought the tokens all the way. Back back in the lead over the spurs but to feel it from afar to watch it on. TV New York into see the energy in the building to to see the smile on his face you know everything you hear about it. I you just really loves the game of basketball and it was hurting him to be any out all that I time returning from the knee injury and then he just really showed out a Lebron's debut which is the only thing we really have compare this thing to was twenty five points in forty two minutes he puts up twenty two and eighteen. Minutes I I just can't wait to watch him. Grow even more and more board game. Sandra spelt this season. What do you think Jab Gentry in the Pelicans plan is for for the short and And the rest of the League Unless League League season future what do you think the planets are David Griffin told agent washing scale in the woods pod. Today that you know he could tell that the coaching staff didn't really love that clan. But he doesn't care His job is to make sure that the long term health design is intact basically according to the indicator was as soon as the training staff sent that Diane was starting to dip into playing with fatigue. They decided sided the poem. And that's kind of tough to here because we're so used to watch the sports. And what is that little extra you have left in the tank when everybody's fatigue that separates the winners and losers. But you know at the same time. I don't think his body is where they want to be in terms of. Oh you know this. Whole idea of the retraining him in several aspects of the physicality and so until he gets to that level that that they have in hope but for him I think they're going to be super cautious? Dave mcmanamon here on the rich Eisen show. I love that. So so griff tells whoa Jr to use the phrase at the the the shorthand here that this is the plan. I don't care if Alvin Gentry in the coaching staff has a problem with it. And they do they they they would like to press the pedal to the Williamson. Met a little bit. More is what you're saying back. Yeah I I understand the thinking of Alvin Gentry I mean why do you WanNa take your kid out scored seventeenth straight reports in the fourth quarter When you have a chance to win and when you're a team that is actually as of late? been putting yourself in position to make the playoffs. For so these these Games really matter I think the the Griffin point of view is that as much as this game might feel it matters. What really matters is whatever we can do dude it to have the most out of the ion over the seven years we haven't guaranteed and so outside of this the story the NBA NBA season is? What would you say what so far? How the Lakers have maybe over performed on understand? That's a difficult word to use when Lebron Anthony any Davis our our teammates The future GimMe Gimme the I guess Thursday before Super Bowl Week story worry for the NBA season here. Dave the Luca breakout has been incredible to watch. He's truly special player He's doing this in just a second year in the league and there's trying to all his game and he's made Dallas. You can talk yourself into thinking that. They'll it'll be a contender this year. If they make some moves around the fringes at the trade deadline You know because a lot of their successes here has been without having having kristaps porzingis consistent a lot of injuries Lucas Good Jaanus. Of course you know. It looks like he'll be the back the back. MVP here and so you've had some games along this stretch where he's shown it outside shot which was really the only thing that stopped him from in Toronto Raptors in the playoffs. Last year he sat on him and fill up the lane. Dare to shoot me. Could make job. And so you know that attention I think some of the turmoil moyle and potential turmoil Philly is very interesting and and then you know other than the Lakers playing so well. The clippers just seem to be a team. I'm when they turn it on. They look like the best team in the League but a lot of times they don't turn it on because it's the regular philly turmoil. Let's let's pull on that string a little bit here On how you see that all playing out over the next several weeks covering the Lakers I I think it was I think he was either either. Bronner Anthony Davis in the last couple of weeks spoke about how well they're they're playing and he said all the pieces and it's just the exact opposite in Philadelphia. The pieces don't fit Benton's is showing out right now. I'll be in the lineup. And when Joel embiid then there and occupied is the space that he does and rightfully. So he's the best big men in the game. Spend Simmons's game is limited. You know 'cause there's not the space on the floor for him to get into the lane. That's that's where EMBIID has to be most of the time here or less. You make three point shooter. Which isn't doing his talents? Talent The full service they deserve. And so there's there's there's pushing poll there and and you're already had a coaching Brett Brown. Who Ooh last season many believe that in the playoffs? He was coaching for his job. And I'm not so sure. His early season coaching performances inspired much much confidence that he will be ultimately figure it out with this personnel Or they find another coach or they have to. You know. Think about moving guy like Ben Simmons to find a fit. That works better next. Joel embiid because you won't be when healthy is like a top five dominant player in the game. So you know I'll branches smart guy went to. He knows what he's doing He must see this. You must know this. What do you think the answer is? What do you think the move is here Ah You know I I think preaching patrons I is a good thing You know those guys are still quite young. I personally I was around the team. I don't think you have to you know. Make a drastic move a this trade deadline. I think you try to hope that they are still incorporating a major new piece like an Horford. You recognize that you want to try to get some shooting at the trade deadline a couple of years ago when they added for Sunday. Really so Ben Marco Bill and L. E. shootings. What allowed that team to really do? Finally make it smart that they was trying to make I would do that. I if flames is out in the in the playoffs then you had to ask yourself serious questions. But outside of Milwaukee there's any other team in the east that I would say has a better chance maker the finals of the fixtures despite kind of the clunky formation now we're talking about ESPN NBA insider. Dave mcmanamon here on the rich Eisen show from New York City. You were in Radio City Music Hall. The other day when the entire lower bowl is filled up with Folks were paying their final respects to David. David Stern I give you the floor a great piece on it What what was it like in that building Dave? Yeah it was termed it the full measure of the man There were some great moment. of humor There were also some You know tear jerking moments Magic Johnson getting up on the desk without any note speaking from the heart And saying that David Stern saved his life You Know He. He said you by Lois moment after he had to retire prematurely in a world. That didn't really understand what HIV JV and aides. Were and David Stern. Not only you know tried to make sure that you could use any connection. He could to get the best medical test for Magic Johnson. But it invited him to play in the ninety. Two All Star game At this to say listen we don't view you as the cast off. You're still part of our family and we'd want you to know that you should feel love breaks here and and Magic Johnson felt like by him playing in that game obviously one DP and was a magical sports moment he. He thinks he helped save other people's lives Because the society at large became comfortable with the idea of trying to understand what HIV and AIDS. Were rather than just you know. Put a pox on those people And then you know you val val active in the former WNBA commissioner getting up and saying that she feels like they've Sern deserves as much credit in the women's sports movement movement. In this country has Billie Jean King does You had You Know David Stern son. Eric was just cut up and talking about how his dad look to tell dirty jokes and he told a couple of dirty jokes to the audience. START CRACKING UP. Because that's that's what David Stern they've been you know he was a guy who's brilliant But he was a guy who you know he was always bantering with the press and you know if if you could make him laugh or SMIRK You know you felt good about yourself. You know. That's what's kind of challenge the intellectual challenge to to Kinda have humor infused to the day to day proceedings was what he was all about So you know it was at Radio City Music Hall You know who would have thought James Dolan ended up looking like a great guy that day for the entire thing right And you had. I mean I couldn't do anything but scan the crowd as speaker after speaker came up and and you spot Roberson that's Thomas and the Walton it till Bradley and Michael Jordan and Kareem abdul-jabbar. Yao Ming Steve Nasty I mean it. The great showed up to pay their respects which I think says a lot about you know who who the guy was and what he did for the game because and again I don't WanNa get too morbid forbid here but there are other commissioners out there that I'm sure some of the Games greats would not be showing got four again. Your pieces must read. I mean Adam silver talking about a a a member of the media Saying the when he got cursed out by stern was still one of the greatest phone call so the ever got. I mean the stories. That you recount that you're able to to pass long really was really great stuff. Dave I really you know. That's why I want part of the reason why I wanted you. I appreciate the call. Of course thank thank you gotta look Look for our call out more man for. We're getting into the thick of it so we'll chat soon. Excellent Dave mcmanamon getting out and he got out of his cab. I believe I am I'm well versed on the sights and sounds of when it's real quiet and then all of a sudden you get out. He got out of his cab and the and the war on the way to Brooklyn..

"And the issue though, is that the next day I had a wind direction that would have been blowing into the bedding area and I'd knew the spot so good if I go, I want to go back in right away, right. See all these books. I knew if I moved my my, not my stand, but I moved, whereas hunting sixty yards farther north to where most of those came by thought, I'd be able to get a shot. I was pretty confident the wind be good. Well, if the wind was good, I can move sixty yards. But when wasn't good, that takes restraint, man, it takes restraint to bag it because the winds bad. Yeah, and it was. Yeah, I was taught so badly wanted to go back in there and seen Sony. I was like, this is such a Honey hole, but I just knew if you wait till the conditions are right, you will kill it here there if you go back in there tomorrow and just hope to get lucky, you're messing up. So I said, Nope, I'm not going to go the Honey hole. There was one of the piece of public. I'd seen on the maps that looked pretty good at. I hadn't been to ever before. I thought, well, I'm gonna give this other spot arrest way to the winds right on the go check out this news Bob and this new spot kind of had all the same things going forward. That night number one spot did. It was long, the right period corridor. It was hard to get to and it was tucked behind private land. They had food on him, but what made this one hard to get to versus the first was that rather than walking river, I'd walk more than a mile up on top of this big bluff and then go down one of those Steve nasty canyons like you were talking about, like basically sliding down this canyon. I had to bring tent poles because I didn't have truck it sticks or anything. So I had like tarp pole. Yeah. So it was not ideal but was all head and as well. I need something to give you some kind of pours and sliding down this, so got down. It's not so bad that needed to repel in NASA better repellent, but suite of. And that's next year. The got down this canyon getting this little piece of public land again and same kind of deal. They were deer bedded back in this public Russian olive Cottonwood brush. They would transition through this little piece public outdoors that private land with alfalfa. But again wasn't right close enough. So I did see another mature buck that were shot at if I could of. But he was about one hundred twenty yards away. Bunch of does little box. Not quite as much action as the first night. But again, it was. I felt good. Like I've got. I've got. Huge giant book. Not a big, huge giant. Like when he got. I'd take similar in that like definitely, you know, three, four, five year olds. Somewhere in that he was probably four or five years old and he's a ten pointer con titan tall, like one thirties, somewhere on the me one forty for if we care about score, you like lots of all, here's a buck. Yeah. I mean, it was a bucket. Yeah. So it's cool to see that too far away. So then I waited till they all went through way to after dark everything and transitioned after those fields snuck out of there again. Now I've, no, I've got two different spots I can work with. So depending on winter action, whatever other conditions might change, I can adjust. Now you hunt by yourself. Car camping by yourself, car, camping, sleep in.
