Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Hayes Resign From Fox News

"Know there's a conservative crack up going on inside the beltway as Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Hayes have departed from Fox News. There's a story at the American spectator about addition by subtraction at Fox News with which I disagree. Molly Hemingway quotes from it approvingly. Molly is a good friend as his mark. Byron York works with both Jonah and Steven Jonah longtime friend of the show, Stephen a's used to be. He drops a nuclear bomb on my head a couple of years ago that I didn't see coming, but I don't know what that's all about. Byron York works with everybody and apparently amicably like I try to do as I quote tamale Lincoln's first inaugural. We are not enemies. We must not be enemies, but friends, Byron, what is going on? Well, good morning you. My official position in all of this is that I wish everyone well. Yeah, you and I pretty much adopt the same view on beltway, penda tree. Yeah, well, what can I say? You're a Fox News contributor. Do you have a conflict? I don't want to put you in a bad spot. No, I am a Fox News contributor. I have been since 2006. And I've been happy to be Fox News. So I think that that's my story right there. And by the way, I am an NBC News contributor though I've been exiled and they're about to breach my deal. I don't know why, but I've been exiled. So who knows what's going on inside of network executives trying to figure out their audiences? I think this all comes down to trying to find your audience and keep them happy. Well, I mean, there's always been this a lot of commentary about thoughts about having almost being like the old broadcast entertainment networks. In the sense that they had the news division and then they had entertainment programming. So people said, well, the prime time program on Fox is kind of like the entertainment programming and the special report and approximately Sunday in the whole daytime, really are all about the news division. I think that's unfair because a lot of news is made during prime time on Fox. But clearly it's opinion driven and clearly Steve and Jonah became increasingly uncomfortable with the prime time programming. So I am not sure what to say beyond

"One of the Senate is circumstances here is that the biggest loser the American people If anybody in America is interested in finding out what happened on January 6th all of those facts they certainly will not find it out through this committee and this committee deserves zero credibility When you have people leading into publicly announced their prejudgment and their personal interest in it by the way I left out congresswoman Liz Cheney She announced that the root causes of the events on January 6th were directly and unequivocally attributable to former president Trump You can't investigate when you've already made up your mind It's a scam I want the listeners to consider this by the way every listener out there Mister Bannon is a layperson Mister Bennett was put in this position not of his choosing So a biased committee of Congress this prejudged the issue issued subpoenas This was a setup That you should subpoenas demanding production of things they knew the president would invoke privilege for it Privileges invoked now mister Bannon is a private citizen now I lay person He doesn't know this process His lawyer very experienced seasoned lawyer told him we got this letter and privilege was invoked I direct you not to turn it over privilege would be waived if you did You have no right to produce the documents or to appear And because he followed his lawyer's advice and honored the privilege invoked by the former president he now faces a prison sentence He's charged with a crime So that could happen to any American out there anyway citizen who in good faith listened to their lawyer and followed the process By the way these kinds of disputes come up and discovery in every civil case lawyers demand something and discover the other side said I believe this is privileged or I'm not turning it over for this reason and you go to a neutral arbiter a judge who decides And in that case generally most litigants aren't even as biased as this politicized committee is

ZOA's David Schoen Addresses Pending Suit Against Steve Bannon

"Well I mean you've got it all in a nutshell What you just said let me be clear from the beginning since we've got a pending case here I don't generally address pending cases But I am addressing this case because I think I have an obligation to respond because the attorney general Garland saw fit to issue a press release on Friday after mister Bannon was indicted And in it he said that the charges against mister Bannon reflected department of justices steadfast commitment to pursuing equal justice under the law I can't think of much that's further from the truth than that This is in no way the pursuit of equal justice under law to put it in perspective by the way for people since 2008 have been referred for criminal contempt And that's what mister Bennet is charged with criminal contempt to the Justice Department Not one of them was ever charged with criminal contempt Lois learner Eric holder Harriet Myers Josh Bolton all across the board politically This is what we're seeing today from the Biden administration from this Congress is the politicization of the criminal process for a vindictive reasons And what they did in those other cases and three of the four is they had a dispute over whether the document should be turned over And so they initiated a civil enforcement action to get a judge to decide whether they should be turned over That's all mister Bennett asked for here From a president Trump invoked executive privilege mister Bannon's lawyer received a letter directing him not to appear and not to turn over any documents because privilege has been invoked His lawyer advised him to honor that mister Ben wanted to honor that for the former president because it clearly does apply former president We know from the case Nixon versus general service administration a former president Ken invoked privilege and it's very important privilege in the mazars case The court said this is a privilege of the highest sanctity executive privilege Why Because the president of the United States has to be able to speak freely to advisers even if they're no longer on the staff We often call that president often calls on former advisers because their wealth of knowledge they knew something then They know something now and they're kept in

The Biden Inflation Tax With Steve Moore

"We on this show were early, we were right. We predicted it, we saw it coming, which is the inflation crisis. If you go all the way back into the spring of 2020, a year and a half ago, we did an entire hour long program on inflation. What it is and why it's coming to America and why the leaders in charge could only be, let's say, intentionally bringing us towards an inflation curve. This is by no way whatsoever in accident. This is inflation by design. This is in my personal opinion and attempt to try to justify mass immigration to try and give a basis to try and say we need millions and more people. And someone who I know knows this very well is a friend of mine, a fellow chicagoan. Steve Moore, Steve how you doing? Hey, Charlie, great to be with you. Thanks for having me on it. You are spot on. You were right about inflation. I was right on inflation and Joe Biden was wrong. And so was Jerome Powell, the chairman of the Federal Reserve board. And the new numbers that came out this morning show that we're now the producer prices are up 8% in a year. And Charlie, this isn't complicated when producer prices go up. Guess what happens to consumer prices? They just get passed off. 8.6% increase. So can you translate the economic language to really what that means and how significant an 8.6% increases? Well, it means every time you go to the grocery store, every time you go to the gas pump, every time you go you travel every time you buy anything out of Walmart, things are going to be more expensive. And inflation is a is a regressive tax. I love when Joe Biden you've noticed he's not going to raise tax for anyone who makes less than 400,000. Charlie, he already has. Yes. Every time you go to the basket gas pump, you're paying what I call the Biden inflation

FBI Raids James O'Keefe's Apartment Amid Probe Over Ashley Biden's Stolen Diary

"Was wondering if someone could help with this. A couple of years ago, I was flying from New York to Los Angeles. I remember exactly what seat I was in. It was seat three a now I am, I'm a journalist guy. I'm always taking notes. I have hundreds of journals, some would call them diaries around my house. I love writing things down. I love taking notes. But on this particular flight from New York to Los Angeles, I was really kind of taking notes and doing things and I then fell asleep got distracted. Landed, got off the plane, and an hour or two later I realized that I had forgot my journal on the plane. I ran back and it wasn't in the lost and found. It wasn't where people said it was and I have a high suspicion that my diary and my journal was stolen. So to the FBI, could you guys help me find my diary? Is that a federal crime now? Are you guys now in like the diary locating business? Now, some of you might be saying Charlie, what on earth are you talking about? Well, over this last weekend, we have now learned that there is an expanded scope of federal authority. Where the southern district of New York and I want to be very clear, there are some phenomenal people that are part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In the boots not in the suits, but the southern district of New York is its own kind of it's its own country of enforcement. SDNY, that's the one that went after Steve Bannon, dinesh de Souza. It's one that went off to every single one of the conservative allies. Well, breaking last Friday night is that fair to say Friday and Saturday because we didn't really see it. I don't know if we covered it last week. Project veritas run by the wonderful James O'Keeffe had their doors kicked in. For the federal agents that were going after the alleged missing Ashley Biden diary, how is that a federal concern exactly? And so there's a lot surrounding that story, there's a lot within the contents of the diarrhea allegedly. We were told the diary wasn't real. I didn't really cover the story honestly, I forgot about this. There's just been so much crime and corruption around the Biden regime and the other side just isn't covering it at all? But let's play cut 20. Fox report on how the FBI investigation of project veritas and the diary apparently belongs to Joe Biden's son or Ashley Biden. We're not exactly sure. Play cut 20. On Friday, O'Keefe acknowledged project veritas is under investigation by the Justice Department over the apparent theft of a diary reportedly belonging to Ashley Biden. President Biden's daughter. Just days before the 2020 presidential election, pages from the diary were published by a right wing website, which reportedly has ties to O'Keeffe. The site claims, it received the diary from project veritas. O'Keeffe says a copy of the diary was leaked to project veritas by a whistleblower, but they chose not to publish it because they could not verify its

It's Been a Great Week for Republicans AKA the 'Party of Parents'

"Start. This last week was phenomenal for Republicans. So last week was terrific in New Jersey and Virginia. Republicans won the Virginia House of delegates everybody. Statewide the Virginia, lieutenant governors raised Virginia governors race with junkin, the Seattle city attorneys race. They elected a Republican, the New Jersey state Senate president was defeated by a truck driver Edward durr even though. Steve Sweeney will not concede. He says, oh, there's thousands of ballots we're still defined. He's pulling his best Tony Soprano. Frank Underwood impression possible trying to declare a state of emergency to go find ballots. Republicans had momentum. We won everything you could possibly have asked for and then some. Republicans were riding high and they weren't riding high because voters showed up in record numbers and said, hey, you know, mister junkin, you know what we need? We need electric charging vehicle stations. You know what we need mister junkin? We need to go spend $1.2 trillion that we don't have. No. Mom's and dad showed up and they voted for Republicans in the first time in a decade because they sought was happening in their schools. Rural parts of Virginia showed up in record numbers at a higher percentage clip than they even did support Donald Trump and Republicans started to build this coalition. That was pro family and also anti leftist. That ran up against the power structures of the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the abuse within. Higher education, the public sector teacher unions Republicans finally seemed to have its groove for a couple days for a couple days we started to see headlines from CNN and Washington Post Democrats on defense, time to do a detox. And then you saw this Democrat Civil War begin of one part of the Democrat party start to say that we need to be we need to recommit ourselves to the party of parents and you had pramila jayapal worried that the Republican parties becoming the party of parents, which I'm going to say on this show until someone starts to listen to me, the party appearance is phenomenal

Is There Really a Climate Emergency?

"Doctor coon in professor coudin, science adviser kunin Stephen, welcome to the Dennis prager show. Thank you very much, Dennis. And it's just Steve. As you say, I'm kind of modest and unpretentious actually. I'm well aware of that was I write about being a provost of CalTech? I was for 9 years provost and altogether, I was 30 years of professor there. But of course the people who differ with you with me and so many others will say, oh, we don't follow the science. It's quite an attack to make on you. I agree. Particularly since everything I say in the video or have written in the book, is right out of the official UN or U.S. government reports. So I'd love to have a discussion with them about who's denying what science. Oh, God, would that be awesome? We would put up serious prayer you would put up serious money to have someone equally prominent to you on the other side. Who is the guy there is truly no, not Michael, man, I know. I know he's the guy at the Canadian university. That doesn't work. Yeah. He's in Pennsylvania. Okay, no, no, no. Forgive me, there is a guy who writes mcgibbon, mcgibbon, that's it. Are you familiar with mcgibbon? Yeah, mckibben. Yeah. He's not a scientist, really? Oh, good point. Less than man. So let me tell you, I was at MIT last week in a meeting open to the whole MIT community. It will try to share the stage with a prominent MIT faculty member who is an expert. And we had a discussion. It was very good for 20 minutes for 20 minutes and then we talked. He didn't challenge anything I said in the science. But the discussion focused on risk aversion and improbable but high impact events and so on. And that's not the science. It's how you interpret what you do about it. But, you know, anything I wrote was not challenged at all.

"Sorry. Because i mean everything's in there. The valve guys are shot. The the piston skirts worn. I mean it's just it just needs an overhaul neat car. I used to have those turns out. There is really no such thing as a cheap that cheap european car just got very expensive never been achieve european cars. You see the really nice one. That was down here and got a really good one here if the body and is really clean it'd be worth spending the money on it. It could or you could Do a fun engine swap you. Could you could put the six cylinder in their thousands power motors in there. It's not one of those engines rotten in your backyard. Brawl making one for twenty thousand and make it really nice. Yeah that's about what it costs to rebuild to make it super fresh fresh plus. Yeah and that would be like good rods and pistons and stuff durability built their ability. That's all the pizza in my belly. Could use your name sir. Mr dinan as someone who Who drives a stock tune. F eighty at multiple. Hp events a year does even a stage. One level tune reduced longevity and reliability from a route reputable outfits such as yours. I i would say. Probably not just the tune i saw a lot of those and people track damn but i still would say that's not the way to make a better traffic are i'd go for wheels and tires and spent hate to talk myself out of making money but i i would. I would do suspension and wheels and tires and brakes. And and i would just leave the engine stock. You think you'll have a lot more fun and you don't have to worry about any issues and and i would put gas in it when you get to the track. Does a stock didn't respond well to race. Gas will advance the timing and that will lower the temperature and the exhaust Because what happens when you retard the timing from the not controllable retard the timing so. The engine doesn't detonate nate. It makes a lot of the fuel and air charge through the combustion. Roberta the exhaust and that overheats calot converter. If you still have one day Bmw as a temperature model that adds fuel to cool the catalyst that's how they control it But if you if you put the race guests in the timing it will lean out the mr then because it sees the timings advanced knows it's not gonna hurt the county converter and the power will go up an extra safety margin so yeah i mean do you get the net. The net gains of that stage one tune. But it won't be as much as that but it's just but you'll get like twenty five thirty horsepower. Angel run cooler. Yeah exhaust run cooler and those cars made to handle amazingly well. I believe yea race. Rayleigh will car-bomb get an m. five s to tinker with soon is essentially mechanically the same as the aid and the m. Fives everything we've made already goes in the car. So i'm probably not going to go out and buy another car just to fit the same parts to it. That already have like. There's nothing unique about the car from his suspension or engine standpoint. Okay makes sense. It's just lighter and has cool seats and stuff and you know just any car Mike lamb says does on tune any diesels. I do not tune any diesels How is it power fuel economy. But we're talking to a guy who builds fucking race cars we. I think we need to. We don't answer that one scouting for zen What is an overlooked and or misunderstood aspect of modifying a road cars suspension. Well i mean just like what we were talking earlier. Every car getting the doors lowered too much has no suspension of travel. Everyone i'm has shocks on stiffer full. Everyone has the bars on full stiff. I it's just stiffer not better. It's just not better. You know. I agree so so. There's a certain shot ballet noticeably worse. It's usually noticeably worse. yeah So the the biggest thing you do is not run everything to the maximum and second thing you do hire a real race car driver to go out and drive the car in play with a shot quicker than the sway bars go the track pay guy not a club.

"It's easy to make a ton of power out of that little five. You ever going gonna get into those. Yeah you should there be a good time. I drove one. That was like nine hundred horsepower and it was an animal ran like nine. Second quarter mile craziness built. It looks stock was named seems a little much for that car. Well i wouldn't it was it. Was it definitely what it feel the same show. Tanner yeah I don't know if this car would do it for thirty minute. Track day but on an outlet a hot flyer a cool down. He ran at Miami international rosval Right yet rhovyl He ran the same laptop as a portion eighteen. The i can see that. I mean i did it once. I mean super high tune cards. That's parts of the canal app by time. Do ten they they. They melt everything down. Yeah the problem. Yeah we were talking earlier about track day cars you know so i mean having thousand cars for cars is not a good not a good idea for that that one thing it was very cool a few questions from the people that see robert eastwood recently acquired any thirty nine five with one hundred and seventy five thousand miles on it now outside of standard full service. What should i address timing chain rod bearings. I mean one hundred. Seventy five thousand miles. Eight seat should rebuild the engine. They're good for usually about one hundred and fifty real. He's about twenty five thousand past and overhaul and.

"Low pressure under the current makes more downforce so a lower car we all know goes faster. That's true but if a car stiff it won't go down row k. So what we do. Is we make the car super soft. And we put you know. The bump rubbers stop shopping crashing. You know when when you bought them out. We have little plastic discs. They're called packers. And we tune the gap on the bumper to the shock so we can get the car on the springs of sink down and gets a bumper and hold it at the right. Hif- oh okay and so we want to do as you want the car really soft complain for low-speed corners like hairpin sold put down power and break really well but then as the aero picks up at pushes the car down to what the optimal ride height is we wanna spend the highest percentage of the lifetime at that right hice. Okay so when is it. High speed are the springs. Compressed and then the bumper to bumper holds the car at its right hif- and then most need it rises off those you have a nice compliant rice where she right to manage oversteer and body body weight break power. Done 'cause speed corner. That's the problem at high speed corey downforce and you're gonna taller gear so traction off the corners problem it's support and this gives you the support that you need and holds the car at the right platform that's cool streak are of the same way we have packers in the eight. Oh really yeah we truth so when you go down the highway the bumpers don't touch but then you load into a corner we've put the packers are just the right amount so that rolls in the bumper of in the spring rate goes up some progressive springer and it gives the car support. Oh it'd be like supplements the springer. Yeah oh neat yeah. So that's that's my makers right so l handled so well over the bumps and then we hit bump because he had the squishy foam and they're progressive soaks up the bump really well. It doesn't like back on get bounce off of it but you have to have some suspension travel to do that. That were genius. I remember when we visited your Old place the machine. That was just testing a bump. Stop in the corner. You have hysteresis the bumpers. We actually test the history of the bump river. So i i in formula one cars at any cars. They have a third spring. You know that works no. They have a role spring and then have a he spring. Heave is up and down okay car. And so what they do. They tune the roles bring soften tune the he spring so they can get the car come down and they put the packers on the heath spring and the bumper so they they have a spring. Just ride height. Control is the role spring-like connected to sway bars. So shocked shocked and then in the center where the beam or the robot goes third shock. The goes far with a spring on it. You can adjust the gap on it and the spring preloaded in the spring rate. Oh so you so. You can set the right height front and rear with one spring and the roll rate with another spring. Well that's not where we're not allowed to have third springs and gt's so we do with bumpers and packers and it's also kind of impractical. Because you have a shot under fender where the foreign cars push rod in the shock. You know up in the nose of the car and everything's right there next really easy to do. Just packaging standpoint right But in a street carts practical and it's not practical and gt cars. We do bump rubbers and packers. It doesn't work as well but it has the same basic effect. Yeah yeah sidebar if you do run inboard suspension a streetcar rule on the occasion. I've seen it done in hydraulic interconnects. Where the corner is talk to each other. So it's really sophisticated. I believe mclaren does that. And they're super series cars. That's what the the mclaren extra awesome suspension. They've made that illegal in formula on the last year or two might be back to mentioned shocks and springs and third. I can't remember now. Keep track a formula and rules that much. I'm sure somebody either banned one tech. I'll take all of that. You're band except cvt so you can see that off. Your just never feels right doesn't mean isn't it always seemed to be paired with an engine. That's like grosny so it was just an.

"So that's so octane. Engine tune but it reduces the ability of the engine. Right tech itself right. You end up with the octane in there. That's not what is advertised right. So what we did instead wasn't took us a year and a half and it wasn't trivia three guys. I have three software guys again. I used to have five and We actually put a three and a half our map sensor and which some people do but they don't change the software. I've never found anybody to actually change the software correctly for three and a half bar and we re scaled all the maps and all the models and the for the three and a half bar so now different times. You have to do what would be kind of repetitive. Grunt work to reprogram all those for three and a half bar said it just takes a couple of minutes but but once it's all done but to figure it out. It's like a year and a half. Yeah yeah okay. More what. I meant a year and a half. So what we what we've done now. We can run another fourteen point five pounds of boost. But all the computer models that ignition timing. The fuel mixture the thermal protections are all map to go with it so so on the crappy fuel if you had to yes and we also reset the upper and lower ignition limits. but we don't raise the lower limit. We just expand the upper limit so it can learn more when you put better fuelling so you can put ninety one in this car and it makes eight hundred runs exactly the same smooth unknown destination. No no jerky. Not no smoothness of like the knox working. You can't tell you change a fuel except he lost on it. Horace bar seems pretty good and you can put pumps and rayson and it goes eight fifty one hundred and it goes on nine hundred and you can put method. It goes nine fifty and it does us all by itself in four times. You step on the gas learns in the current perfectly smooth and every mode objects four times you step on the gas and learn. That's all it takes to figure it out. What the fuel quality.

And they have brought us an eight hundred eighty horsepower. Bmw competition to play around with. We're learning about how he's making power and in that unconventional way in wine. His way with suspensions is the best way steve dining of carbon on the smog. Entire podcast Welcome i see. I see it to get Good to have our new place. Yeah that's really awesome nice. Isn't it like engineering type. People tend to ten. This is my kind of place as why would have bill stack up right and You brought a cool looking eight in the right color. I did nothing beautiful tuned by your new company carbon by that a second and you you brought in some show and tell yeah And i've been raised in a lot of found that at all. I have it. But i want you to tell me about it all right. It's my fault for not following. that's fine what. What are we racing right now. Racing out he's right now. We're racing out. Yeah because i'm doing. Bmw porsche audi just like for the last time and trying to convince licensed anymore sixty ruled. Thanks what makes that one. Look slow while the may already we gotta stock one press car A year ago or something like that. It's you know it's enormous but yeah it's very very fast. Yeah this one belies. Its speed handle so well i mean i you know i set up cars. You've mercedes has so much grip than as such good suspend travel and absorbs the bump so well that you can take these poorly paved california country roads and you can go to an incredible clip in car. Never gets out of shape. Never does anything weird just sucks up and just just may just lights just glides over a minute but it doesn't roll. It's not soft it's firm. It's just really well damped and really well and control and really sucks up the bumps. it just never spit siwei. Just never does anything weird. So it's really fun to cover ground. And what is your. What is the weak point. Because you always you always find unexpected weak points. It's not just like well. Yeah i put some shocks on it. And some yeah. We'll talk about race track. We're talking about though not just audis. That's look in our eight. Yeah so we are raising our eight. We won the championship. Nineteen and Gt four am so we came back and twenty twenty and finished second. Thought we're going to back to back up but we had a gearbox here at the last race at sea bringing took us out of the deal then we moved up to weather tech to the big class. It's still racing. Gt which is like a basic gt three cards emphasis version of gt three car. What do they changed from. Gt three to be the power restrict. Everything gt three gdp changed the name. 'cause they they own daytona snow anyone to be. Gt daytoin instead at the marketing. Basically a gt three car and we run on michelin's instead of pirelli's like doing an sro serie but otherwise god same sequential gearbox right now real racing gearbox. Yeah right So well we won the second race in detroit We've only run the car racing. You like racing there you know. I'm very very good as you probably know about writing my cars making cars workover bumps ups and so when i get to a street course. I'm always the fastest guy. Because i have so much streak cartoony experience over bad roads that it actually applies to race cars. We took your cars to To the bumpy road we have. We have specific roads. Yeah that we like. Yeah and for those who give a shit lake hughes road the best one in in the la area for cars that to test bumps and your car's always do really good on bumpy. I pay a lot attention to bump rubber travel and absorption all that kind of stuff and and and and deflection of controller and bushings and things of people. Just don't pay attention to these. Lower the car. You know so when i get to the race car. I'm i'm naturally good in in tracks required handling some really fast grip tracks. I'm really fast on bumpy tracks when you have the restrictions of a spec racing series or a race class are you. Does that hamper your ability or does it bring out the ability to find the little smoky unique action somewhere in there. There's no doubt if you know how to make cargo fast. You can't unlearn it. You know and limitations if you're if you're tricks for streetcars are outside which you can do in this class moving geometry's or or whatever you know certain things you can't do but you can always if you really understand works out a way to get it done you know you can. How do you like the ira as a racecar gt. Four-car i thought was a little challenging to set up. I thought it wasn't pretty user friendly as Racing car the way out. He set it up. It's very robust car. Engines very strong and and it it takes a licking to bounce off of cars and it doesn't ben suspension with and things like that because we've done that a couple times but it had a tendency to oversteer a lot and i didn't think the balance of the cars very good so we we We dominated with that car and everybody else racing out. He kind of left for a couple of years because nobody could make the car work at us. We want to win the gm ship and it wasn't an easy target. Pull all my skills out to make the thing work The gt three car as a lot. More open on the rules. There's a lot more things you can do. The car is fundamentally much better car. So that car. I like a lot It's a really nice car to separate really responds. Well response like a real race car. Wait the the post. Gt g with gd gt gt. Three cards four car car. You're much more production-based production based much more liberal. What you can do since you're handcuffed so bad if it has a fundamental problem. You can't really bright right hard to fix Killing you take anything from the success of.

So he's instead taken to finding ways to bring europe home to the united states cooking reading up on history looking back at fond memories of travels past so we decided to bring him the show and to interview him. Pair him with another public media legend. Our friend ray suarez. It's a clash of pbs. Titans before we get into that. Let's hear a little bit of a recent streaming event. He hosted called monday. Night owl. here. Rick is talking about some of his favorite european dishes something. We didn't anticipate when we started this monday night. What i'm gonna be eating tonight. And i put the the menu on our Information so people can of eat with but look at this beautiful beautiful plate. I miss my kids. They're saying who is this man. Well thanks ray and listen to that. I just felt like an enthusiastic little kid who somehow just learned how to cook well. Let's be clear you weren't much of a cook before where you know this. I call it a corona bonus I'm a travel guy. I spent one hundred days a year in europe. I love my work. I'm writing guidebooks making public. Television tv shows leading tours and suddenly. I haven't been on an airplane for a year. And i just decided at the outbreak. This to play the cards. You're dealt you know i was telling my tour groups You know if it's not to your liking ginger liking and i've changed my liking were there a lot of irons in the fire. When the world shutdown things that sort of stopped in the middle. Oh yeah. I mean i had. I had one hundred tour guides from every country in europe in my living room having an amazing party the week that all the said in that Retirement homer senior center in kirkland that the first cases of covid were being reported it was just. It's just a twenty minute drive from my house. And we had just finished a week-long Celebration are annual summit of all the tour guides. We fly them into seattle every every january in february and And we have a big huddle and we're just having a big party. We were going to go home and have the best year of touring ever you know. Twenty nineteen we took thirty thousand people on fifteen hundred tours and we were already almost sold out for the next year and they flew home. We're all euphoric. And then i look at this. I'm looking out at puget. Sound here from my my window at home and is like a su- nami came in and it just submerged everything i remember. The the next couple of months was busy in reverse. We had to send back twenty four thousand deposits tours I had to keep my staff of one. Hundred employed somehow had one hundred guides in europe. That are now not able to do their work and it was. I mean know you think every time strange during this last year i just every coupla days it occurs to me. Oh that industry's been in crisis also and you know i'm focused into tourism. We lead bus tours. And we write guidebooks and you know. It's it's devastating From travel point of view are guidebooks. Ray were right up to date. These were the labor of love over thirty years of researching. I've got fifty different guide books on europe and they're all based on little moms and pops you know the the the the the entrepreneurial ventures that i think make travel so much fun to connect with these little guest houses and being bees and cafes and restaurants that are the dream of a husband and wife and It's just ski saddens me to think of how many of these works of love labours of love or are in crisis now and what's going to be a big emotional thing for me is to go back to europe. Once we get through this and see who still standing. I mean the big corporations will be standing. And they'll be the starbucks still be where we know. Starbucks is in in paris and so on. But what about the the little guys. And that's what really makes good travel so our initiative right off the bat is going to go back and sweep through and and see what's still there and put the guidebook make the guidebooks accurate. And then patronize the little guys. As if the way we consume can help shape the future. Well that means that An up-to-date book given lead time the time to run down. All these leads figure out. Who's still in business and all that We're talking about what twenty twenty two twenty three till you can sort of figure out what still here in the world and from you know people who value guidebooks. That's that's my thing is writing guidebooks to me. A guidebook at twenty dollars tool for for three thousand dollar experience if it's any good at pays for itself on the shuttle and from the airport and A lot of people are going to be traveling later in. Twenty europe's might beeped but anywhere you know and And then it's going to be almost. I'm i'm i really believe. Travel be wide open in twenty twenty two but from guidebook point of view. Anybody who's updating now is wasting their time you gotta wait till you're expect to some semblance of normalcy before you go back and find out you know who's there and who can we recommend so the workable research is only going to be possible if all goes well. People get their shots in europe and in the united states and so on in early two thousand twenty two and then it takes eight months. If it's just pedal to the metal to get it out into the bookstores so anybody traveling in twenty twenty one or two thousand. Twenty two will be using guidebooks that are either. I think dishonestly claiming to be updated because he can't update it or you're gonna be using information that was accurate in two thousand nineteen when the last of our guide books were updated for twenty twenty. And then you just. There's still much better than nothing at all. I'm going to europe. I hope later this year and be equipping. My i'll be traveling with a guidebook. Like i always do. And we'll just have to realize that you know things have changed and the only way to have information is to be flexible and use. What was accurate before covid. But what i'm committed to is by the end of two thousand twenty two. We will have what we're calling post covid guidebooks researched and updated by experiences after cova had passed. And then you know from twenty twenty three on. we'll be back back in her stride. God.
