They say he was driving north, lost control and a curve crossed the center line and went into oncoming traffic. The impact killed his passenger. The 18 year old driver was processed for suspicion of DUI and his under investigation for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. This happened along 204th street southwest, just about three miles south of alderwood mall. We're told a refinishing product got too close to a heater and caused a chemical reaction that reaction created an irritating but not toxic smoke that set off the smoke alarm. No one was hurt. This is not far from earlens point kitsap Lake, and about a block away from a fire station. The woman was inside her home when she was shot this morning. Family members immediately called 9-1-1, the woman suffered serious injuries, had to be airlifted to harborview medical center in Seattle. Deputy say several suspects took off after that shooting. Starting in 2025, electric drivers like Jay would have the chance to voluntarily participate in the paper mile system. Already, he says the measure is unfair because all drivers of electric cars would have to pay the same amount, regardless of how big their car is. There is an impact and we'd like to see the smaller, more affordable cars, tax less, especially for the drivers who just don't burn up the roads that much. Having at the shop in the 2600 block of Pacific avenue, 6 suspects arrived at that closed business in three vehicles, one of which was used to drive through the front door. Now, as the suspects were leaving, you might remember an armed security guard who had been outside the business exchange gunfire with multiple suspects. The suspects then took off in one of the vehicles, some ran off. Now to come a police say they have arrested an 18 year old. He also had a stolen firearm on him when he was taken into custody, then booked into jail. Suicide rates are climbing again across the country after two years of decline. Komal for Steve mccarran reports, a local group is working to make sure people learn the warning signs and prevention strategies to help save more lives. The new statistics are hard to fathom. According to the CDC, more than 48,000 Americans died by suicide in 2021, the highest numbers recorded since 2018 and at least one out of every ten was someone under the age of 25. It's heartbreaking. It is. And that is Scott Hannah with family education and support services, which provides early intervention services in four local counties, including pierce, Thurston, mason and Lewis. In 2018, fess was asked to facilitate a task force on child and adolescent suicide because of rising rates. That spring, three young people killed themselves. In two of those kids were 9 years old. And. Not accidents. These were kids. They had a plan. They had the means. They slipped through the cracks. And our hopes to get the word out about some free seminars being offered each month this year to learn about different ways to get help. The warning signs of suicide, and the risk factors, which for dogs can include relationship problems. Substance abuse, historical trauma and barriers to healthcare. The CDC didn't reveal why suicide rates are climbing again, but research has suggested the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on mental health for all age groups. While we're hearing from parents a lot is that there are early signs that their kids are struggling, but that they can't get help during those early stages. So the challenges continue to escalate until something really bad happens. It is on all of us, he says, to do our part to help prevent that, knowing the warning signs, and the resources that are available, can be the difference between life and death.
