"Home stay safe save lives surge of cases in Michigan now third in the country for coronavirus deaths and the president says in his own words well let me give you his own words it's going to be a hell of a bad two weeks ahead that said quoting the president what a bad time to have an earthquake but they did in Idaho I guess they didn't schedule it six point five earthquake striking Idaho largest in the state since nineteen eighty three four hundred ventilators arriving in Michigan for covert nineteen patients while we're sleeping and we've got again just an awful lot of people here in Michigan that are suffering the hot spot we also have our correspondent Steve Kassebaum in New York and they're doing a nice job force and from what I understand Steve don't you live right across the street from Brooklyn hospital I do indeed which is in well from near downtown Brooklyn accent for green it's it's basically right across a major thoroughfare which leads to the Manhattan bridge one of the updates your hospitals in Brooklyn and serving a very densely populated area and over the last two weeks or so the number of coronavirus patients at Brooklyn hospital has exploded and there's the constant sound of sirens you're seeing the error as ambulances arrive regularly bringing more patients who are in very serious need who are in crisis and and are having trouble breathing to the emergency room here and that you may have seen a call W. some of the videos now many of the hospitals around the city have these refrigerator trucks are parked outside of their hospitals because of the mounting death inside and here on and have you called aspen police they have a truck parked in a very sadly we've been seeing as they bring the victims of this pandemic out in body bags one by one listing them by forklift into the back of his truck until the bodies can be claimed by their families until funeral homes can claim those bodies and there's all sorts of odd guidelines put forth by the CDC to prevent the spread of an infectious disease that the these hospitals now have to follow when they're dealing with the victims so really numbing situation here to to hear those sirens to watch the bodies coming out the loading dock every day and I hear those I hear those refrigerated trucks they have a certain sound to them with the refrigeration it active and that's just a horrible thought in a horrible scene and the folks in your neighborhood of in your case Brooklyn hospital doing what people have done around the world they've made a plan and it's seven o'clock at night everybody apparently comes outside and and applauds these heroes the as a doctors nurses EM tease all the first responders police everybody right exactly at seven PM new Yorkers have been opening their windows or doors and for two minutes start their rambunctious applause and cheers for those the healthcare workers who were out on the front lines I hear obviously it means a lot because we're literally right across the street from the hospital and also a nursing home and it's also for all of the essential workers who are keeping those essential services going right as you mentioned the first responders the sanitation workers the transportation workers the people working in stores and groceries and stores like you know the the targets and and walmarts of the world that's the reserve clause or for and the death toll keeps rising surpassing a thousand in New York City and and the city health department announcing that they've had their first victim under eighteen apparently specifically in the city three hundred new deaths reported in the state in twenty four hours and and for people I honestly I had actually heard of someone who still thinks or thought that this is just like the flu it isn't it isn't anything like the flu and it can kill you and it very well may now we've tried to get the numbers they're hard to get many many people have survived but the fewer grateful that get this the better it is and the only way to make sure sense everybody blew off of the mask thing a long while ago the self quarantining the physical distance saying are very very important if you're staying home you are making a difference and I I don't know how to get that point across and pulled up to you I I what I'm puzzled about now is that that there are still governors across the United States who have not learned from new York's mistake it was a mistake we we you know and the the Blasio initially took some heat for some of the early any universe directions that we put in place and and and but then as it became apparent how bad this is going to get there became you know this outcry for for more restrictions you know close the schools that sort of thing and and we will learn from countries like Japan like like South Korea that the only way to beat this virus if they get out way in front of it before if you wait till the death start melting it's too late because now well now we know that the mortality rate we we we know it's been adjusted that it's actually somewhere around one percent they believe maybe even slightly lower but what what we know is that there's a massive increase action right and for everyone yes there are an estimated one hundred people who are infected out there many of whom don't realize that they're infected we don't become sick what are spreading the virus further so think about how many people in a symptomatic carrier of corona virus it can come into contact with canon factor and then multiply that by one hundred for every single death so if you wait a couple of deaths have already started it's too late it's spreading in your state so but there are there is half the states in the United States still don't have really severe restrictions in place that is truly unbelievable.

New York readies for the Ball Drop in Times Square

"A new Yorkers are avoiding Times Square today it's an annual tradition for new Yorkers stay out of Times Square Steve Kassebaum joins us every year to talk about this as people gather to wait for the big new year ball drop maybe a million people there in the square and for as long for a long time New Yorker reporter Steve casting bomb as been asking himself why are they there so it's been an annual story for decades and unfortunately you guys know where I'm coming from on this because you you know me long enough and have both have good memories every year that you know where I stand on the new celebration one of the few times I can express and personal opinion I was right right it based on what you've told us before that that all those people that are out there they're they're tourists and they don't know what they're in for it's a bucket list item right I mean yeah there are some new Yorkers in the crowd but but as a general rule new Yorkers stay away from Times Square at all times not just on new year's eve because it's it's really you know for us we need to get from point a to point B. as quickly as possible it's a little difficult to do that in Times Square because it's it's for tourists go when they check out all the signs and and and they show it it's a great it's a great part of New York City and it should be a part of everybody's trip here but then you're right a new year's eve most new Yorkers stay away from Times Square and it becomes a you know a bucket list item for people from all fifty states and well over one hundred countries you can walk from one end of Times Square on new year's eve together and here as many as a hundred different languages being spoken yeah and these these are frightening times and I am always amazed and breathed a huge sigh of relief whenever there's any major event such as new year's eve in Times Square and it passes calmly without people dying or any kind of terror attack tells a little bit about security for something like this you know something because you know think about this it's you know where with its two thousand and one right nine eleven here in New York it happened here and here we are we're about to have our eyes in the eighteenth or nineteenth celebration since eighteen celebration since the attacks and there hasn't been a single incident a single major incident around the new year's eve celebration in Times Square not just in time square because to get in there you have to pass the really stringent police security to get in there but even in the surrounding streets were people lined up to pass through that security there hasn't been an issue knock on wood and and and and that's a great thing it's a testament to be incredible I worked at the NYPD and the F. B. I. to every year in preparing for this but you know there's a lot of preparation that goes on and then today some of that preparation is taking place a top one time square with the annual test of the ball they'll be doing a couple of dry runs on that giant lighted ball atop the building in the heart of Times Square today Steve it's just one more thing on the on the security front and that is that my wife and I were at an outdoor festival not long ago and I looked up and saw a drone overhead that was just hovering over staging apparently I'm sure it was just a video in the event for whatever purposes the event promoters might have had but it occurs to me that then I sent my god that's that's scary could a drone get over Times Square not during the celebration of the they have they have units in place that actually police for drones and they can take them down believe it or not they can actually you know interfere with the radio signal between the remote and and the drone itself and that they could take it down safely that way the drones are really that almost all of the York city in Manhattan it's a it's a no go for drones unless they have been licensed in pre approved like for you know a TV shooter or movie should or something like that so it's something that they actually have units out there in Times Square looking for a new
