"Are obliged to accept Bitcoin as payment, which investors and bankers have warned against. But the pictures of the city, which will be free from income and capital gains tax so it would be based on the country's coast and use geothermal energy from a nearby volcano. And it's quite a fun one, even just to Google at the end of the week. But these type of financial instruments are as we know extremely volatile. And that's what's worrying those who follow El Salvador. You know, is this a viable way to invest the state's money? Yeah, it's pretty extraordinary. Golden cities and volcano power seems a bit Bond film for me, but it's one we'll keep a close watch on listen to, I must just ask you before we let you go about DJ go Maradona, of course his 1986 World Cup shirt famously the one he wore when he let me call it the way it is. When he cheated against England this inder, it sold for an astonishing amount of money earlier this month, Steve Hodge former Tottenham luminary put it up for sale. He had it in his possession since that quarterfinal. But I gather, this has not been popular in Buenos Aires itself. Yeah, so Diego's ex-wife Claudia and one of their daughters dalma Maradona claimed to actually have the original shirt. They say that the one that the previous owner, Steve Hodge had, was actually worn during the goalless first half of the match back in 1986. But really, it's stemming from this rather painful loss for fans in Argentina, Diego Maradona has died, and they hope that a delegation who went to some of these auction in London would buy the shirt, take it back home, so to speak. But it was actually purchased by Middle Eastern buyer reports say. So, well, they've locked down. Well, luck was on their side that day. I don't want to get drawn back into it. At least in the great fun good stories. Thanks for bringing them to life for us. That was Monaco's lucinda Elliott joining us from Montevideo. You're with the briefing here on Monaco 24. You are back with the briefing finally on today's program we're heading to Italy. It is this week's global countdown and it's something particularly special because we're hearing from Fernando agusto pike, but instead of joining me live here in studio one, he's joining me live from turenne now Fernando remind our listeners as if they need reminding what are you doing into your in again? Well, I'm enjoying myself here tongue chow from Turin. Of course they're hosting the Eurovision Song Contest, which I have to say Tom. It's a well deserved victory for Italy last year because they've been doing well consistently in the last years. And the last time they had won the contest was in the early 90s, in fact. So yes, and the temperature is very nice. It's quite sunny outside. There's a nice atmosphere around. I've been to a few parties already Tom. Well, yes, about this. I'm sure listeners would have noticed it. You know, when you said a few words to us on the menu earlier, your voice had dropped a couple of octaves. What were you up to last night Fernando? Well, I was singing along to some of the tracks. I went to a party, which was actually probably the best part in town, organized by Wii blogs. They are kind of and you're a vision reference for all the fans. And some of the contestants were their tone, so I saw a performance by the Lithuanian contestant, which is one of my favorites. It was good fun. I have to say. You can ryland was there. Sounds like too much fun Fernando, but we won't dwell on this. What you're going to do for us though now is because obviously you get you're in Italy. It's going to look at the Italian market. And I guess the interesting question you can talk us through this is to what degree the top 5 currently in Italy, I don't know, does it have a Eurovision flavor? Is it shaped by Eurovision? How does the top 5 stack up? There is a little bit of Eurovision, not everything and I have to say spoiler alert and number 6, in fact, is the Italian entry. So they are not in the top 5. But don't worry, tone. The song has been kind of the top 5 for weeks and weeks. I have a feeling if they win, they'll probably be back. So shall we start straight to number 5? I think that's the sensible thing to do Fernando. This song actually told it's in the monocle 24 playlist because I loved it so much. It's very easy Italian pork. It's perfect for the summer. Let's have a listen and number 5 Lod with Banu,.

That he was on some show, radio station, and a producer said, years ago, I saw Steve Hodge bring that Jersey into a studio to show someone in a plastic shopping bag. And that thing is going for 7. That's made him 7 million. And Steve Hodge played one. I mean, wages were much, much smaller. So he's just got 7 million windfall at a 59 years of age. What about allard dice's pint? Oh, yeah. That's a good piece of memorabilia. Sven urinary Erickson's glasses. Maybe the animals send us your responses because on next week's podcast, of course, we'll recap a huge cutoff side cup, but among other things. But yeah, send us some of your responses as well because I'm sure there's some great pieces of soccer memorabilia that we're just not thinking of. JJ, this was what a show this was. We got a Champions League Final for the ages, Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris. Congratulations to the sounders as well for the concave Champions League Final. We'll see. We'll see then in the FIFA Club World Cup, but they actually still have a season to play. So they can't get too excited. It's funny. They now have a game against Dallas, I think the Saturday or something. It's like right back at it, boys. No rest for the weary. Hey, back into the grind. Good stuff, my friend, to you. I say. "The world Here's Dan schwarzman Thanks Brian The prize money for the upcoming French Open set to begin on May 22nd has been increased by close to 7% to €43.6 million with the winners of both the men's and women's singles titles each collecting €2.2 million The increases over the amounts paid out in the pre coronavirus held tournament in 2019 Real Madrid coming from behind with three late goals to stun Manchester City three to one in extra time in a Champions League semifinal second leg to advance to the final to face Liverpool on May 28th at Stade de France in the suburbs of Paris Madrid and move on 65 aggregate get back to back goals from Rodrigo in the 90th and 91st minutes before Kareem Benzema scores in the 95th minute on a penalty Diego Maradona's Jersey one while scoring infamous hand of God goal against England in the quarter finals the 1986 World Cup asshole for $9.28 million the most ever spent on a sports memorabilia item The Jersey was owned by former England midfielder Steve Hodge when swapped jerseys after the match with the Argentinian legend The NFL has announced that the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be playing the first ever regular season game in Germany on November 13th at Allianz arena homo soccer giants Byron Munich Finally Washington capital Tom Wilson will be a game time decision leading into Thursday's game two versus the Florida Panthers after leaving the series opener at the lower body injury on Tuesday On Dan schwarzman met your Bloomberg world sports op aid Markets headlines and breaking news 24 hours a day At Bloomberg dot com the Bloomberg business app And at Bloomberg quick take This is a Bloomberg business flash 13 minutes before the top of the hour we update markets every 15 minutes on Bloomberg radio Agent stocks and bonds are higher this morning the dollar is falling It might be investor relief after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates as expected but countered fears of supersized hikes Even so this was a hawkish meeting perhaps lost in the market response was a hawkish comment by J pal about inflation versus the employment He said you can't have a good outcome on employment If you don't have price stability And this is interpreted to mean that the fed is all about the path to fighting inflation to getting restrictive not just to neutral And so we'll have to see whether or not that plays out in the coming days but on Wall Street today S&P 500 was up 3% In Asian markets we have gains in Hong Kong Australia and Taiwan China opened lower after being on holiday all week and we had battery giant contemporary amperex technology falling by 12% after its first quarter earnings disappointment We mentioned that the dollar was weaker right now the Bloomberg dollar spot index down another tenth of a percent Dolly in one 28 94 the Euro just a dollar 6 23 the Aussie 72.4 U.S. cents 74 dollars and 46 cents The yield on the ten year 2.93% we had a drop in the two year down to two 64 that's a fall of 14 basis points and gold now $1901 an ounce And that is a Bloomberg business flash Headline news with Ed Baxter in San Francisco All right thank you very much Brian I'm Moderna's CEO says China needs better COVID vaccines Stefan benzel says those being used to not have a high enough efficacy Beijing is extended COVID restrictions monitoring modifying quarantine and isolation guidelines Beijing is reporting 50 local cases from May 4th Shanghai extending its lockdown saying it will be lifted only after community transmission reaches zero long way from it now Shanghai reporting almost 4400 local asymptomatic COVID cases for May 4th Meanwhile Chinese tourism travel and spending over the Labor Day weekend their predicting will plummet 43% year over year U.S. address on detailed strategy toward China has been postponed as Secretary of State blinken has tested positive for COVID President Joe Biden says the maga group is the most extreme right wing political organization in U.S. history and Biden wonders what the Supreme Court will try to change next EU commission president Ursula von der leyen saying Europe will phase out the use of a Russian crude oil with 6 months and refined Russian oil by the end of the year And here in California governor Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order intended to spur blockchain innovation the first state in the U.S. to start a framework for web three companies In San Francisco I'm a Baxter This is Bloomberg Juliette Thank you so much Ed Well U.S. regulators expanding the watch list of Chinese companies facing possible delistings that added more than 80 companies including JD.com pen door door and Billy Billy to this expanding list of firms that face possible expulsion excuse me from American exchanges Let's get more now with Edwin Chan Bloomberg's Asia tech Lima leader who joins us from Hong Kong So this is just really going to upset investor sentiment at the time when we'd been hoping for a deal between regulators in Beijing and Washington tell us the latest Edwin Yes Thanks Julia I think the consensus right now is that at least from the Chinese side there is some sort of resolve to try and try and fix the situation Bloomberg has reported for instance that the CSR C is marshaling some kind of effort to open up at least some of the audit work papers to U.S. regulators And that includes a state owned enterprise which is a step I think It would never have considered previously but again from the Chinese side it seems to be some kind of impetus to resolve this situation Now from the U.S. side it's less clear I think in terms of peak as we call it in terms of the audit rules there are very clear guidelines on the fact that they want access to all the audit working papers that we know very negotiations going on between both sides But right now the fact that the SEC continues to add Chinese companies to the list means that we're not at the point where we can point to a grapefruit When this began from the China's perspective it was always the concern about access to big data and not so much the accounting rules Is that changed in any way That's a much broader issue but you're right The overarching fear here from the Beijing side of things is that overseas listed Chinese companies would be sort of a window or an avenue through which sensitive Chinese data would be leaked to foreign forces as it were So that was the central issue that ensnared Dede are back in June or July of last year when they listed the CDC law immediately launched its crackdown on data security within the right sharing giant precisely because it was concerned that the rush to hit the listing and that they would be vulnerable future over the long term to data leakage Let's talk as well about what we're seeing with China's hike vision I mean it is plummeted by the 10% limit with the U.S. mulling these new sanctions on this company as well So this is the first Chinese tech firm added to the so called far reaching list It just kind of shows you how much I guess uncertainty to my earlier point there is an investing in a lot of these companies but what are the latest sanctions here Yeah so high vision had been added about three years ago to various what we call sanctions lists of black blacklists including the pretty well-known entities list the same one that ensnared Huawei Many years ago the fresh curves that White House is now considering is more far reaching I think it extends not just to the sale of American technology and American businesses doing business with hike vision It pretty much is sort of a blanket ban on doing business with this company Now hike vision has been one of the more high profile companies at the center of the controversy over the treatment of Muslim minorities in Santiago Which as you know is kind of a hot button issue in the U.S. as well And a persistent point of tension between Beijing and Washington So I'm sorry to interrupt dead when I was just looking at the Hangzhou tech index a year to date we're down nearly 23% but if you look at the damage done over the last 52 weeks we're off more than 46% Have institutions by and large thrown in the towel when it comes to tech stocks exposed to China I think sentiment waxes and wanes on Chinese textiles in general I would say that the easiest way to think about it right now is that investors are sort of shot after sort of an unprecedented 2021 in which everybody was subject to the winds of change from Beijing and to central of regulations that even to this day I think the.

isn't it the reopening and where we see opportunity particularly amongst ASEAN what are you looking for No no you're absolutely right If you're in Australia in Singapore things are pretty much back to normal That's not the case in Hong Kong So the markets we like in the region are some of the energy and markets as well That's not only for reopening Thailand would benefit from reopenings It's a marketing we do like But there's a lot of other dynamics going on as well In particular in Indonesia where the macro looks good there's inflows people need to nickel there for battery making But also industries are consolidating So there's a lot of micro that's also pretty good there So Indonesia is a market we like as well But for slightly different reasons In the rest of the region that's right of the fed funds rate is two to 3% and the market seemed to suggest that we've already discounted that It took it as a positive Probably the message that the fed would want to stand by is that the neutral rate could move up if the economy and if inflation stays really hot so he may have misspoke in suggesting that the fed funds rate or the neutral rate is at two to 3% Anyway we won't know unless we get some correction from the fed The fed did deliver a 50 basis point hike That was the biggest rate increase since 2000 for 22 years and also said it would keep hiking at that pace over the for the daybreak Asia media and tea leaves review from the economic daily in China that authorities are expected to roll out measures to support technological innovation of Internet platforms This follows a Politburo meeting last week and that's after they pledge support for the sector's healthy development So this seems like another step in that direction Meantime Reuters is reporting that let me see It would just get to this story about HSBC and ping on top executives of HSBC and ping on will meet in the middle of this month to discuss ping on's proposal that HSBC should explore options Among those options would be to spin off its Asian business And in an opinion piece in the South China morning post it says post handover the central government sought to understand and then win over public opinion And by 2005 people's willingness to embrace Chinese identity had never been higher Recently however there are signs that truth and fact are under siege with repeated attacks by state run media on legitimate sources of information So that's the piece you can find On the Bloomberg terminal that originally ran in the South China morning post and that's a look at the media Paul and Doug to you All right thanks very much Brian Well today as we know the fed delivered the biggest interest rate increase since the year 2000 JPMorgan chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon is the fed should not have waited until this year to raise rates Diamond spoke earlier with Bloomberg's francium LaCroix in London he discussed the fed and the impact of the war in Ukraine on global energy and diamond began by discussing what the fable need to do to slow down inflation This is contradictory about to say but both are true Very strong U.S. economy Yeah They consumers in great shape lots of money spending the money jobs of plentiful wages are going up though everything is distorted by inflation and all that but those are good news And businesses are in very good shape And the fed is going to have to raise rates and reverse Q 8 And if they can they're going to try to slow down the economy enough so that 8% starts to come down over time And I wish them the best Yeah We're a little late but remember two years ago we had 15% unemployment and no vaccine.

"Sure. She's on on papa. No it was. It was more like who janet was. We always saw her as a little feisty entity. When you saw her with the brothers he was always really feisty man on her hip and had wanted to. We wanted to bring that out in the music. Does that hasn't happened so far so relevant right. And the reason. I say job producers this the eighties so now and you don't see that with no produces in no writers. You guys have been able to evolve. You keep your sounds how do you keep your ears too. I wanna say the streets to the clubs. How do you keep your is relevant. Are thing was when we did our very first interview. When control happen we did a local interview with the paper up there and the guy who was asking the questions. First thing he said is men yell hottest producers man. How's it feel man to be the hottest producers we said. Well we really don't want to be the hottest producers we wanted. Just be warm for a long time so when we said we meant that we we meant that the decisions we were gonna make wasn't about trying to be hot trendy or anything like that it's like just try to make good music and try to do it for a long time and by giving everybody their own sound rather than depending on one sound that was part of the plan and that was kind of the goal but it was funny because a few years back when we did the unbreakable album with janet that alum opened a number one and no sleep was number one for like twelve weeks or something single and we asked us the same dude asks us the same question he said man you guys been around for four decades and you had number ones and four decades feel and remember what we told you the first time home for a long time. You will never understand that. This instant gratification air behind for the moment. Yeah you know. They'll never understand how many people try to get over on your two brothers from producing these hits and was like are they don't know try to give your oddball deals. Low ball numbers. How many people trying to get over on y'all in this industry man in the beginning everybody you just throw the contract behind the bid but but thing for us that we had in our careers. Be beside common sense. I think we had a lot of that. Got us to yet. Cleanup clarence avon. Yeah clarence avon. Delays clarence avon. Yeah the black godfather when we met. Clarence clarence told us. Actually that the contract that are manager at the time was trying to negotiate for us to do the sos ban and he said. Now your manager wants to you know this money for the sos ban and we were like. Oh we can cut the budget. You know whatever you need. He says cut the budget. He said there's not enough money in here. You realize you gotta fly to atlanta to do the project and you're gonna need to studio time you're going to need whatever he said this. I'm going to pay you this because this is fair so he actually paid us more than we were asking for. And that's how we knew we said. Oh all right. This brothers got some different things but he also told us a whole lot of great just life lessons about helping people out. He said if you ever seen anybody that needs my help you know. Let them know and the people we ended up helping out with l. a. Baby face whoever thought was our. You know our competition and maybe they were. We didn't think of it like that. We thought of. Here's two brothers in need clarence help and l. a. Say would you introduce us and we said absolutely so we did so. Those are the kind of lessons. That clarence taught us. Besides getting our business right. He definitely taught us live for important. Is clarence avon. Because he's one of my top. Four inspirations period. How important is he to. Y'all just industry period. He's at the top of every list especially for black people any deal. That happened for any black person. Whether it'd be berry gordy whether it'd be dig griffey clarence has always been involved with all. Those deals Everybody because he would you know untangle the mess because he had enough reach in relationships. We got more jimmy. Jam and terry lewis when we come back. Don't move as the breakfast club. Good morning warning everybody. Dj envy angela. Angelini we the guy we are. The breakfast club was kick it with jimmy jam and terry lewis ye now actually back to the sos ban when you guys went to work with them. That's how you ended up getting fired by press right. Was that devastating for you at the time because it was the worst day of our life. Let's talk about it wasn't yeah it was a boy keeps saying was a blizzard in atlanta. But we're from minnesota so for us. It was like what they call it. Dust when it snows a little bit you could just take the broom and sweep it. That's what it was all airport down. We were trying to get on any plane to get out. We didn't even care where the plane was going like. Just get us out of atlanta so we can connect and try to get to san antonio where the next time gig was and at a certain point. We realized we weren't gonna make it. But we have never missed a gig in our life so for us domestic miss gig. That was devastating enough. Plus we knew prince was gonna find out about it so the day we get fired right. We're at the studio thinking we're going to work on the next time album. Prince fires us that same night we had booked time to mix sos ban and so we said okay so after he fired us. We've like okay so we go to the studio we walk. you know. he's at okay so he called us to sunset sound he said. I told you guys not to reduce other acts and you produce ban so you're fired and i was like cope because i didn't feel as anything i could say terry stayed in there for a little while. Tried to reason with what you say. Terry like virus. That like all we're trying to do is better ourselves. We have you know talents that we wanna let people share and you know and you when you try to make sense out of nonsense. You're stupid too so that conversation went nowhere so finally i got up and left two outside kicking rocks. That was fair. God blessed there. Why did he think that was fair for have y'all not produce anybody. Reasoning is reasoning was to control everything. But he didn't want us to give away the time sound but we weren't doing that. That was exactly what we weren't doing There were records we would work on. Somebody would say ma'am use that synthesizer like on not enough but the thing was so after we kicked rocks we go over to the smiths studio called. Larabee and steve hodge was the engineer and we only reason we knew steve hot was looking online or notes on the back of albums. He had steve hodge. Had done all the solaar record stuff so the whispers shalimar lakeside. And all that stuff we were like. Do we want our stuff so we walk into the studio. We'd never met him. We said hey. Steve said hey. Nice to meet you guys. He says what's wrong with you guys and we said oh we just got fired from the time he said. Oh man said well. Now i don't know. I don't think you guys have anything to worry about. He said because this one here is a smash and he hit play and just be good to me comes on lasting out these speakers with his knick's and we were like so it was crazy man. It was just a it was like hollywood. It was like the hollywood ending and actually he was bluffing. He wasn't he didn't really fire us. That's the funny thing because we will go to the account every week and still pick up our checks house. Oh never really fired us but what he did was. He tried to scare us. Basically right so of course when it wasn't happening then he tried to divide and so we had jelly bean johnson. The drummer in the time. Who was probably the only person. I know. Probably terry longer than me. He had jelly bean. Called jerry in jelly beans like hey prince bagman antares like on the up on the phone. Right and terry goes. Yeah okay cool all right. yeah what about. What are y'all doing okay. Purple rain okay. Cool What about jam and jelly beans said. Oh he won jammed back. terry. I swear to god. The phone disintegrated in his hand. You know that little look man and it's all good man. He's a nano like he was like that. And that was it we we. We did this. We shook hands. We said fifty fifty. I love it and that's it and that's the foundation of our relationship. How relationship with prince after that it was is pretty But over the years we got our relationship back together and you know he's a great. I love that man and he was proud of two. And once you become a boss you start to understand. The dynamics of white people make decisions whether you agree or not. That's another thing. I own artist. You guys work with. Who is some of the craziest studio story. The best studio story. I think we probably have is when we were working with michael janet on screen. That was pretty cool. We flew to new york to do it and We were set up at hit factory. Michael walks in the studio. You know looking very michael jackson ish and the plan was michael was going to go. Sing his vocal. Jen was going to do the vocal. After right so michael.

"Because it's like I felt like control was your most important record but I actually feel like heartbreak. Was your make a break record because what that allows you to do was really crossed the bridge into what young people were. You know our into which you know not even. I don't even consider as like Oh. Can Jam Lose Handle New Jack? Swing but more or less like the standard of it. You know what I mean like it. I felt like that was a real. Make a break for you. That allowed you to grab folks that are even younger like did you see that. Did you even see that as a challenger was just like okay? Well we're just getting new addition and yeah. I think we just thought we'd just were just do a new addition like it's like in the moment. I don't it's easy to look back historically and go and you know that that was some sort of turning point I mean it was the first time that we really As probably the first time we really adopted a Lotta hip hop into what we were doing or at least a Lotta. That kind of sound and a lot of you know wasn't a discussion between you. Two like okay now are straight up. Funk might be dated by eighty eight eighty nine. We got to figure out what's going on in New Jack. Swing and that sort of thing like what? What was your impression like when I heard the guy record in the key sweat record and love at first. Listen absolutely love Matter of fact I remember having a conversation when the key sweat record came out. I remember having a conversation with baby face about that. We were at a club somewhere and I remember we were talking about. I said man you heard this key sweatman and he was like. Oh Yeah Yeah. Love that record. I love that record record. Sounds like y'all's record because it sounds because it was if if you think about it to me the New Jack. Swing rare not on what the first new Jack Swing record but the first for me one of the first New Jack. Swing records was actually nasty And the kind of Flutie String sound On that to me is what I want her was but they were using teddy was used as yeah. Yeah but that was that same thing and I remember we were talking about that and I and and I remember. Face Madman L. A. Said well you know. Keith's cool but you know who the real dude on record is this. Is this kid Teddy Riley? He's like the dude and we're like Oh really. Who's he produced a record and we were like. Oh Shit okay. So we went on Teddy Riley quest at that point and tried to find other more records that he had done because it was just still brand new but that was a thousand amazing record and amazing album too. I mean so yeah no. We love that We've always embraced pretty much. What's out there? We've never really had the attitude of. I mean we certainly have things we personally like. Don't like but we never had the attitude of you didn't scoff at some of the patches like some of those like Stanley Brown cheesy saxophone saxophone. Like the greatest love of all. You weren't scoffing at some of the patches. Like a little amateurish and you know. Well I don't think so I think hatches were always classy. Like you always use presets right. Yeah I was. I was a big preset guy. My article longtime ago in Keyboard magazine that somebody would give me a keyboard 'cause because companies would start was at the point where people would just give us your voice right and they go hand. This one's this one's great man and the great thing about it is man you can really tweak the sounds. I said I don't want to tweaks. Somebody's getting paid a bunch of money to put really great. Sounds in this. I shouldn't have to tweak it I should go through the presets and when I go through the presets and I don't come up with a song idea that keyboards going back. You know so if I get so if I get a keyboard like So we're you know Probably one of my favorite all time was In Sonic in sonic funny because it sonic got no respect as a keyboard company. None but control the horn hits. The Horn hits on ver- for Mirage. The sound on nasty the Gomungo and all that and Mirage. The little flutie sound on Nastya Mirage. The Janet Jackson Signature. So I set an article. I just mentioned I said Oh. Yeah that's a Mirage Reset priest academic actually floppy this because their samples floppy bank so that was the thing so that keyboard inspired there would wouldn't be nasty without that sound. Okay so these. The keyboard inspired. That's how sonic keyboard fan just from that I remember. They sent us a whole bunch of other keyboards but the one they sent us was his keyboard called. I think it was called. Mr Seventy six and Not to skip around but velvet rope ninety percent of is Im- are seventy six keyboard drum loops all the road. Sounds all the Z's us all of us all the stock stuff yes because to me crazy. Yeah but the thing is to me is an obviously and to not diminish it. I mean I can't not diminish it. I can't put enough importance on Steve Hodge mixed. So Steve Hodge made it sound the best. That could sound but a lot of stuff. We talked about Let's see body that loves you? We mentioned earlier. I'm trying to think of another song anytime. Anyplace for instance part of it is the way that you play the patches You know a a sex patch can sound totally cheesy is somebody plays it doe. Play a SAX player. Like I'll tell you Give you one. That's the way love goes so the The guitar part that goes in vain. Make the big thing right. No S. three. I don't even have a new. He's.

"A bunch of the songs themselves and they just wanted us to produce them, and that was great, but then they wanted us to add our own songs to him, so it was like okay cool. and. That was the first album that Steve Hodge actually engine neared. For us because we engineered the control, basically ourselves. And Steve Kind of fixed it because we recorded it totally wrong what we did it, but he fixed it, but he said come up and show you guys how to record so that Human League has actually sonically is probably one of our best dubs because it's really done well. But the idea of creating was interesting. Because you know we had the songs, they were down with the songs, but in particular humid. Terry to the vocal on that song producer vocal audit, and it was like a week at least a week of every day. Because think about you always have to teach phil how to sing because Phil was always very robotic and always very stiff. Them sound human. Human. But that took. It took a lot of. That was a a Terry Lewis masterpiece to me and I remember hearing the finished vocal, and just going man that's amazing, and I remember watching his face as he listened to, because after he did the vocal, the Terry COPP vocal and everything and I remember watching his face, and he just was like amazed how he sounded right. And so. We went in and when we did. The backgrounds to the backgrounds on the song is the Lisa Keith. And Terry. They're the ones that are doing human. It's a combination of those guys. Because Terry used to also be Mr, background musicologist background so anyway I remember. We played it and. Phil was like. Wow, that's really good. We were all like. Wow, that's great. That sounds great and I remember the girls being like. Who's that other girls singing on the track? and. We said Oh. Yeah, we said all. That's Lisa Keith. Not sure we like that. That's our we fancy that such and such and such as such. You know we. We didn't get a chance to sing in. You know whatever whatever whatever? And we're like okay we'll. We'll figure it out tomorrow or whatever whatever whatever so they left. And Terry was like they can't sickness. And we're like. Yeah, we know it's not that they couldn't sing, but for this particular song that textures. Do it didn't fit. So that's what Tara came up with. The idea is I'm going to give spoken part. that was the olive branch that was the olive branch, so we're going to do this. We're going to do the spoken part. Before the olive branch happened Oh the next day. Fill. The next day, Phil, came back to the studio. And everybody was with, but only came in the room. And he walks in the room and he has this look on his face. And we said what's up Phil. How's it going? He says good good. And we see what's going on. And he goes. I just have to say. that. We're gives the other girl being on the track. And tearing I said. And he says I just have to say. That other girl being on the track. Rancher new. So, we terry look at each other. And he says it again. And then we said. Oh okay. You just have to say? You're against the girl being on the track? And he says yes. I have to say I mean. We say we got you got you. Don't worry about it. We got it because we know what went home. He went home with the girl. You know to the hotel and she was in his ear all night, or whatever the heck it was, they didn't. Smoke and mirrors BECKTON. Was Name. Feeling I would've known. I would have not known any different than. Those per it was very funny, so he did his thing. Okay, fill! You're off the hook. You told us what she needed to tell us what she said. You tell that's great. We came in we did. You know show the girl joined the department. She said here you go. This is the part you're doing, right? We're done with the songs songs totally done. I. Don't know at that point where they beefed to the record company or whoever it was. And we just said Okay and we've I don't think to this I. Don't remember us every ever doing this on any other projects certainly not to that point. But, we just said here's are. The songs that they brought that they did. They could mix them. However the heck they want to do it. They got the songs had we did were mixing exactly the way we want him and as far as humid goes. If we don't get to do it the way we want to do it, we're just taking it off the record and they were like no, no, no, no, no, no! The. But. That might have been the only time that that happened and. It was interesting because I've read some articles where Phyllis talked about making the record now and he says we were puppets, and whatever he has a whole different recollection of it than than we do. And you know. Hey, that's the way you know, but it's like you hired us to make your record. You had major record basically as dimos. And you wanted us to do it our way, so basically it was like taking what they did. And then I would play the parts, or I would have them play the parts or whatever it was, but it was just you hired us. We did what you heard us to do. There was no puppet anything to me and that was the only. I can assume they didn't right. Oh No, no, no, but they write the last on this on the closes the record nothing else even matters or Yeah don't. Die Okay, so yeah, but I was going to say like. If you're given the human league and you know their history. It's. It's very telling that you really brought them to. Your side of the fence brought down to our world as opposed to. Because I figured that you guys would have been like. All right now all right so princess concept with the family. was you only get some of that durant money, right? You didn't think at one point light Yo. Now's really time for us to show. Cash. We all saw the law the middle. Like all the Middle America Am. Radio said that we've learned..

"Him straight like Prince. You Suck right now are you. He would just say that he could. Yeah Oh absolutely oh yeah. They used to get an they used to get these five six our conversations about stuff about about life and religion. You name it and and because I would have all these philosophies and he'd do all this stuff in it and it'd be like any talk and and when he talked man he had this way of kind of like it was like drinking the Kool aid man. It was like right. No one ever salads the morning. Nobody challenged and Terry would always go. Like yeah okay. Well that's what you think. But here's what I think and and would come right back at it and I think Prince always appreciated that with Teri and Terry was really the leader of the time I mean Morris was the lead singer but whenever there was a decision to be made. Moore's would always go. Terry what do you think? Okay right so terry was that dude. So Terry Yeah so terry tried to reason with him a little bit and just Kinda go like come on Man. Why would you? Why would you do that? We're not giving away to sound like you say we're doing you know someone's whatever anyway about ten minutes later. Terry comes out and he says okay. Well what do you want to do now? We looked at our watch. I said well. Let's Go to Libya Mississauga. So we walk into Larabee and we're never even met Steve Hodge before and so we walk in and he goes you guys Mutare. Yeah he says I'm Steven. I say Steve. Nice to meet you. How you doing. Good Steve Goes. What's wrong with you guys? And he says I'm wrong and we said we just got fired from the time. And he said Steve Said He said well. I'm GonNa tell you something he said. You don't have much story about because this rugged you guys got here. He said this is a hit and he knew he knew he knew and and it was that should be the end of the story. But it wasn't oh okay so because that was how that happened of course not. I'm telling you we we're still picking up our paychecks right every week right right so now. We're backstage at Wisconsin. We run into Lee Bailey. He was to show called Radio Radio. So Lee Bailey's backstage and he walks up to me with a microphone and he says Lee Bailey. Radio scope here. You're fired from the time. What's the bottom line and put the MIC in my face. Yeah right right and we're going. Who who are you Lee Bailey? Radio scope I said I said I don't know what you're watching the concert man but I heard you got fired from the time like I don't know what you're talking about man. We're just here watching the concert right so I just kept saying it right. Couple of days later we go to the accountant's office and we go. Hey guys and they go. We can't give you your checks guys. We said why not Mr because we got fired and we left and we said we got fired like four or five weeks ago. Who told you we got fired? It was just on the Radio League biggest to the daily. He'd still doing e you are way. Bill he's still doing so so so the epilogue as as we call it back from the Dan August as anybody. Dan August. I'm over everybody's had a Quinn Martin. Production anybody ever watched Quinn Martin. Productions shows okay. Well I got some house. Yeah I can't believe it. I can't believe nobody in the room. Okay so Quinn. Martin is a is a production team. the TV shows back in the day. But Burt Reynolds was on a show called. Dan August he was a detective. Who was really good. Gr- great show. Anyway they would always say it would always say act one act to act three and then at the end would always say epilogue okay. It's always the wrap up right of the show so the epilogue of the story is France. had jelly. Bean call Terry and as it turned out the reason that the accountant didn't know we were fired is because we never really fired and it was a bluff and the idea was we were supposed to fall flat on our faces and then beg for our jobs back right well. Unfortunately that didn't happen because just good to came out unfortunately for WHO and so anyway. I just be good to me. Everybody basically felt like okay. Well this is. This is a smash did this. We're good you know So Jelly Bean so Prince decided divide and conquer so he called Jelly and he said to Jelly Bean. Get get Terry Lewis back and Terry in Being so what about what about Jimmy and he said no just just terry so be Jelly. Be called Terry and I never forget this. We're in this little little room and we had a little three bedroom apartment Demanders Dean Andrews. I think as a matter of fact at that point and I remember Terry phone going. Hey beam was up. What are you all doing so beans telling them? Oh Yeah. We're going to do this movie. Purple Rain and we're GonNa do this whole thing. And you know Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah and Terry says. Yeah he says well he said what about Jimmy and he said you. Don't want Jimmy Back Terry. Said you every cuss word could climb through the phone and wrong being's neck and has like Terry what's going on. He says no no you. Can't I mean he was so pissed off anyway? I said deteriorated. Man. Go do the movie. It's no big deal. I said I'm not going anywhere. Said you know make the movie. Sounds Fun. Go ahead and do whatever he said? No Hell No. He's a no win together. He said if they they're not GONNA do that to us. You know we're we're we're a team and you know. Yeah so that was it. So that was it's an NSO that's why we were out and then we why are you looking at me lie you? Why did you look at me? You can learn. There are some words of wisdom coming from this story. About Loyd's you're twenty years here with me now. I took a long time up. You tell me this soda tune in for that you listen. You're with me okay. It's on tape now and just needed it thank you. I'm sorry bringing from here. We do public service man..
