"Of these genres of music. So is there Is there anyone you feel more accomplished in whether it be flamenco or rock? Or whatever it might be. Well, I think it just put it this way. Somebody described what I did that it was a little bit like character accident like like Gene Hackman, you know Showing up in different guises, also describing what I did as a sort of time genre of growth across the generals. The court Startled. You take what you want to use on do it on board as an influence and then It's up to you if you want him. In the rest of your life doing one particular form, but I love them all. I mean, I'm not being a blues fan as well. I love that. I thought that playing Harmonica when I was a case, and then I moved on to lose, and I still be problematic. I always loved her in the stomach development that happened within blues that made rock possible. You know, that's where Talk that went to really thing screaming. Cool. It was within Bush. You know much as I've got respect and love of the rock, hip and all. All the styles. It's not as if I want to be a stuffed shirt. Just do one. No, no, no. And I think you'll never be accused of that the ever ever the album is under a Mediterranean sky. It's available on all platforms and in all formats, it is just out and it is terrific as this Steve Hackett, the architect here, Steve, Thank.

"The lawnmower on it. This one does. They are very big fans of this record. of this album cover and some will generally the everyone in the band this is. They're favourite of their album covers. They loved the painting. Because it has this idyllic british setting Personal for the sound of the record and they wanted it. So tony and peter To talk to her and the story they tell us great so apparently she was very eccentric. Older lady and She served them outside in garden and had her table on the side of the hill so everything was kind of sliding off the table. But she didn't really bother with it. So tony and peter were constantly trying to keep the t. From falling off the table during their whole conversation and she was oblivious to it and they also said that she had a pet parrot that when they went to the garden sat on peter shoulder and kept nibbling at his collar and he said he could never tell if she was talking to him or the parrot when she would ask a question. So this is a great story. Steph is like and so they basically beg you know begged her to do this and modify it because she couldn't paint something new because originally they wanted her to paint something original. Yeah and she never enough time so it's like can you do this and modify which they did so as a great story. That's cool or something like that. I just get stories like that. No you don't perfect wonderfully british. It is that he vati british just like the album cover which is very anything. Try try switch into the track by track. Track by track for song is dancing with the moonlit night. This is such a curious mix. i love it. What do you mean. It is very folk music and prog rock in one song and it's very And it kind of switches back and forth a little bit. And i think that this is such a good opener for this album because it is kind of the switch from the old sound to the new sound. And that's with the introduction. Steve hackett right one of the most fantastic openings of any song in my opinion that stark line right out of the beginning. Can you tell me where my country lies said the uniform on to his true. Love's is your instantly transported into another place and time. Peter gabriel was renowned by this point for a stage presence. Whether that be the makeup he would wear the absolutely insane outfits he would wear for instance during the tour on fox trot. He would wear a red dress with this giant fox head or he would put fluorescent makeup cape and bat wings when he performed watcher in the skies so he had a knack for this stuff. So this would be no different Would perform the song with a helmet and chess piece like a british soldier but to him he was not a soldier at all he was the embodiment of britain himself and he was known very well from making up these stories when they were performing it was born out of his need to fill time in the early days when they're know sound equipment wasn't as reliable and shit would break so we had to just talk and make up stories so on this tour before they performed dancing with the moonlit night he would say something like this. I am in the english channel. It is cold exceedingly wet. I voice of risen before the daily express. My name is britannia. This is my song called dancing with the moonlit night so delivered in his very dry british way. I know that he changes local lot too. Because there's a picture of him doing that Wearing a union. Jack dress with a lance in a big helmet. Yeah yeah supposed to be the personification of britannia which is just how it was but as is most of this record. The song is absolutely loaded with puns and a lot of it are puns. That only the british fan would stand yes. It was definitely an elegy a desperate pining for a lost england. That gabriel doesn't think exists anymore right off the bat. There's the uniform word which is called back to ancient english mythology even though it doesn't really exist because it's a unicorn mixed with a fawn with year hooved or horned animal that seems to represent ancient england. There's a lot of inspiration here from the arthurian legends to write very much and it just That's always been a weird english thing to me because there's not a lot of evidence to support that it was ever real. It's definitely a myth is nd. But so many people take it. As as fact and it's so ingrained into the british history and the british mindset of what england was at some point that it's it might as well be history. Might as well today. It's a weird little piece. I believe most people take it as fact. Yeah that that that happened. Yeah so yeah. The most obvious pun is the title of the album selling by which is in the next line. It's and it's really just clever wordplay. It is common in britain for certain items to be sold by the pound. The price is dependent on the weight of the item can also refer to the pound which british currency concept of selling england by the pound is a surreal concept but this totally loaded with stuff like that makes references to the knights of the green shield. The green shield being a shopping scheme in the uk where you would trade stamps for items and a catalog. Also he says chewing through your wimpy dreams wimpy was slash is a fast food restaurant england so all all of this goes by in an instant to the casual listener because it's so closely associated with the british. It would be like someone. Listening to the beastie boys in london for the first time in hearing all the references to white castle and not knowing what the hell they were talking about. What what's the bronx. But it was. It was for sure song and record for their home country. A music wise. It's brilliant those written by peter. Gabriel designed the piano. Parts and steve hackett who put together a ton of shapes over top of it and has this really unusual structure with bridges in verses and choruses used all over the song not in really any particular order The guitar solo has some unique elements. And we asked steve hackett about it So it's got some guitar moments. I think Stand the test of time. He said immodestly If you listen to You know the first. Try dancing with the monday night. For instance she get a guitar solo the features tapping sweep picking and Active jumps and you know these are all things that have become a part of the sort of The glossary of terms for the modern shredder but it was Let's put it this way. I ninety seventy three people were doing that at that point and i started doing tapping which was a technique later named by eddie van. Halen but i've been doing it since nineteen seventy one. So you can hear those genesis albums and I think other musicians picked up on us before the media dade people like brian may said it was an influence and And the other guitarists in said very very nice things. And this.

Ibope I was writing this song in New York and I knew as I started writing it that ause riding on the guitar that that was not going to be the right instrument for it and it was a case of good timing really for the song and a couple of others on this new record we were invited to a festival people that. And Justin Vernon, put on which is a collaborative affair, and so it was there that Steven Austat originally with Aaron and different musicians were floating in and out putting down incredible you know sort of responses to the work and in that collaborative environment, we were able to create the energy intention that sort of inherent in this song So since Bates and two dramas and a horn player and it very much create what could.

"And if you haven't signed up for it this weekend would be a good weekend to do it. Because next week seems letter will have true story number two in it, which is probably the funniest story of the entire forty story series. It's called the camper. Yes. It's it's very visual. It's very visually. It's it's just like the three stooges and Jerry Reynolds in a camper with eggs vying. I mean, it's just crazy. Yes. Stop you're going to give it away. Sting seattle. Welcome to the show. Steve Hackett help you. I call it about the aisle looking at a car of my my emphasis is automatic gas mileage in long warranty, and I was looking at either the general I do. And the gas mileage was incredible mid forties. So what did you take them host was the journalists you drove a diesel? No. Yes. It was a highway trip hook. It was about forty five miles per gallon, and it was seventeen. Now. That's what that's great knowledge. Now, I'll tell you. The these cars are really good cars, obviously the Hyundai comes with a ten year hundred thousand mile warranty. But the the interesting thing about that is you'll never use it because they're making such great cars and it only covers the powertrain. Enter your cars are so good today. Nobody ever makes a claim against that warranty. Now, it just turned into more of a marketing tool. I would tell you that from driving enjoyment standpoint, I think the Tra is a national car to drive like it's quieter on the inside. I think handles better. And there's nothing wrong with the Joetta. But if I had to choose between those two and we're going to keep his car longtime. I've go- I've Hyundai. I think you know, it's just for the money. It's just a really really great card. Keep my cousin just got rid of with the nineteen ninety nine. I keep a long time. So. Jeddah has the six year seventy two thousand four and the. The five sixty. I'm more bumper-to-bumper bumper. You know, there's a better chance of using the Volkswagen bumper-to-bumper then there is the holiday powertrain. And that's just because if you use a Volkswagen Morty because it is bumper to bumper likelihood that you might use. It would be for a power window motor. Maybe an air conditioning compressor. You know, something minor. But still I mean, it's free warranty, and they cover it. So. If you thank you. Are you really good with your maintenance? Steve, I mean, do you do the things you're supposed to do? I change my oil every five thousand miles. I think the I think the odds are low you'd use either warranty to be honest with you. Both those cars are just good enough that if something happens, it's probably a flute. But if it makes you feel better to have the bumper to bumper go with Janet, you you're not gonna regret it. I'll promise you that. It's great car, and they get better every year, the things that belts wagon used to do that they needed help with was mainly trim Adams fit and finish their paint. They've got all that corrected. They're building. They're building fantastic cars right now. And if if you happen to be thinking about electric car, this is for anybody watch Volkswagen because their electric cars coming out in the next few years are going to be something really special. They're going to be state of the art cars, they're putting all their money into electric. "I don't matter what you feel like specially if you're dead knocked tired what was it messes your music like foam your that was ozzie you know what i mean you'd see him backstage you know he'd be moving really slow and stuff like that but then the blacks have you'd never known and he's run around on stage and it's it's awesome so that was i have a twenty i only story extol i'm is my favorite tar player and like what about what about is play on them evil like just everything he wrote was just hard you know what i mean like question i asked about thirty segue off before i only than who else guitar guitars tonio me i like i like like really nerdy like prog rock from seventies so i i love like king crimson john mclaughlin yeah robert frith like dudes like that i like dudes like that that kind of like i don't know they would like write a story within a song but like recently steve hackett like a lot of genesis right now it's like really nerdy stuff but like i can just like go into that world and just and then it's weird taking a music like ours so like i'll hear like a not a chord progression or anything like that but i'll hear like timing stuff that they'll do and then try to incorporate it in our stuff and i think that's the one thing that kind of set every time i die apart all the vans that came up at the same time we were like jordan our other guitar players favorite band is green day like so i'm the exact opposite of green day like i don't listen to green day.
