"You want to call it that. And we did the 6 hour together last year. So, you know, we moved into the trains and we don't miss you, and that's why we're here. You know, trying to get ourselves right for the 6 hour this year. Okay. And of course, it wasn't a track for 6 hours, but you've known well and had success at being on the podium a number of times at banners. And to the point where, oh, him again, right. You absolutely look Beth is it like last year I had this opportunity to do something with my boys and not many people get to do. And to go on race of Beth is with Dalton and Tristan was that's the dream come true for me. And to be honest, it's one of the greatest weekends I've ever spent at a race track with everything that I've done in my career. I just love that weekend so much. And I love that track. It means so much to me. Like it's been good to me and it's been so damn cruel all at the same time. But it's the best track in Australia. It's one of the best tracks in the world. And to do that last year with them was very special, but to get the opportunity to do that again this year, he's just unreal. I can't wait to get there and really looking forward to it. Now, when you walked away from motor sport, your father of course chill grave consulting was always nearby. There's a name that was carried on the car after you'd lost a super duke business. But when you walked away from the sport, you were then involved in horsepower of a different kind. Here completely different horsepower. Yeah. My wife and I brought a horse land franchise. Which we ran for about 7 aes in Underwood up in Queensland or just between Gold Coast and Brisbane. And yeah, we ran that for the best part of 7 years and I pretty much walked away from racing and it was easier to walk away and leave it behind. And just do something different. And look it was good. We enjoyed it. And that finished around 2014. And then you mentioned shell grave there just before. My dad Bruce started that business for 43 years ago. And he asked me to be interested in coming in and taking over the running day to day running of the business. And I decided I would. And I've been doing that now for the best part of 6 or 7 years. And I really enjoy it. It's great. It's more than a manpower company. You do all sorts of management. Yeah, yeah. So basically, if you want to look at a nutshell, or lay behind a company, but specialize in the mining industry. Is that right? No, no, we're mainly in the food and beverage. So we have fitter and fitters and boilermakers and some things like that in the food and beverage industry. We basically, you know, companies like CBS, he blue scope steel, et cetera, you know? Companies are involved in the maintenance of all their lines and machines. So the difference between us and most labor high companies, if you want to look at that ways, majority of our workforce is permanent. Because we have permanent contracts. And then we have the casual higher part of it on the side. Okay. All right. Okay. And so that keeps you and your dance out because the business is based in the business is basically in Melbourne. So maintains our head office. And we're having airport there, actually. But now I live on the Gold Coast. We relocated there 27 years ago. So I run the business remotely and prior to COVID, I probably spent the best part of just about every single month of the year in Melbourne sometimes twice twice a month. So you're a worse place as you can be, you know. Yeah, I love Melbourne. It's funny when I live here. I didn't really spend much time in the city. So I can't say I loved Melbourne so much when I lived here. But since I left, now when I come here, that's where I go. So I actually love Melbourne city. And it was great just coming down here this week. I come down early before the race meeting and spent a few days in Melbourne working and I just really enjoyed it and the footage just started and it was like, oh, here we go, Melbourne's back. It's just great. Just great. All right. And so you live actually in Gold Coast. And they have done for some years. Two boys here racing and you're getting ready for the 12 hour. The production race. And will you drive again with your two sons? Well, maybe Tristan, my other boy, so Dalton's racing here in the trans am this weekend. Tristan's gonna be racing the Australian production car championship. Which kicks off after bathurst. Like calendar. And there's some endurance style rises in that. So I'm not sure if Dalton's gonna team up with him or I am yet, but you could see me again can never know. Barracks also got another BMW there as well. So I might do some just some Queensland production car stuff with him as well and just have some fun and I'm not I'm not looking to get back in the racing seriously or anything like that. I just want to do it and enjoy it and then like I said at the start, the opportunity to do this with my boys is like I said it's a dream come true and it's just something that I cherish and I love and I'm really happy that we've got that connection and we can do this. Oh, well thank you for Johnny as I said about Steve Ellie and we look forward to some more chapters in your book. Thanks Tony, I really appreciate a good senior. Thank you. "Welcome back to Instagram because I'm here at Phil ballin while there are no super cars here. This is a driver. Man who this year is going to get interesting record just he's been a part of both the gen three Mustang in Camaro. That's Zayn garad. Thank you for the guys. And in a different guys this weekend because you're in a S 5000. Yeah, yeah, throw on this round and Grand Prix maybe some more. I'm not sure yet, but yeah, I'm really happy to be ready to move the arrow again. It's been a while in the last race for them was 2015. Old age of 22. Yeah, nothing's changed. They do. Okay, so in tiny coins and rice way you've done and been in the Camaro and Mustang is that right? Yeah, yeah, it's got on. Okay, so two different teams, two different sort of ways they went about it. Can you give us some idea about the difference maybe not so much on the track to start with, but let's talk about the difference in the cars when you're climbing into them. Yeah, so obviously ergonomically, they've done a few changes to the car. A few drivers are getting numb legs and stuff. For me, in the Mustang I didn't really have any issues. It all felt pretty comfy, seating position was nothing too large. Kamara definitely felt different in the seating position. I didn't do an overly long stint, so I didn't get any numb legs or anything like that, but as a rule of thumb, I'm not too picky when it comes to say some cars. I can sort of jump between things and I don't really get any aches or anything, so it wasn't too much of an issue for me, but from what I've heard, those updates are made of massive difference, drivers a lot more comfy now. So yeah, as long as both the cars are the same ergonomically and now it works for all the drivers. Obviously the jam saw it has a lot of tall drivers where Ford doesn't really have any tall drivers, so maybe that's why the issues were more highlighted in the Camaro. And of course you've been driving a triple 8 built Commodore last year full-time event stone. And the year before you shared it with Jake is taking it. So he used to trip like machinery, it was there any surprises in the way that we've done in the Camaro. Not really. It looks, it looked like that normal sort of finish to the inside of the cabin. Obviously just aesthetically it's a little darker. There's a lot more carbon fiber and that sort of stuff, which I'm sort of used to say why the car has been last two years I've done it, but yeah, apart from that, they're fundamentally the same. There's just like different positions for all the switches and stuff like that. But yeah, nothing performance wise between the two. On the interior. So. At this stage, are you lined up again to have a driver of either of those counts? Yeah, yeah, for sure. Hoping to do a fair bit of the testing for that this year. That's definitely the goal. Obviously, ricin with ticket in the battle 1000 this year, so wherever I'll be able to jump between two cars and all I'm not sure. I guess that's a question for supercars, but yeah, I think it was a really beneficial thing and you're jumping between the Kumar and the Mustang it sort of pointed out some things that most drivers wouldn't be able to sort of get when they're just driving one like way. The seat feels for one of the configuration of how the pedals are set up. Just little things that you can notice and little set up differences. The overall balance of the car, did you get a good feeling? Yeah, it was pretty close. I'd say aero wise, some corners, you know, one might have had a little bit more from one another, a little bit more rear grip, but nothing substantial. I think it's early days with the whole aerodynamic parity sort of stuff. So I think that will always sort it out. Engine wise, they felt pretty similar, like I'd probably say the forward was a little more talky down low. And Kamara was a little bit better in the top end, but yeah, nothing crazy jumping out. Like they're pretty similar and I'm sure by the time they're racing on track I'll be even more refined and closer. Okay. And the perennial question of Steve bustle. You'd be in favor of the decision that's been made. A 100%. I think, I don't think there's many people that would be against it to be honest. I feel like it's part of the supercar DNA. Being out of heel and toe under all that cool stuff, it's sort of something that our categories quite unique for. I think getting rid of that would be a big shame, so yeah, I'm always a fan for a sequential sec. The paddle shift. I wouldn't say it meant easy, but it definitely made it less busy in the car. And I think when you're watching on boards and that sort of stuff and seeing the driver to answer and do stuff in the car that looks quite impressive rather than like a video game. I think it's a good decision. We're tourists like it all robotic where a person is just left with some booty and 100%. Have you made it into the car yet? I've done a ride day in it. That was after Sidney motorcycle. Park. It was a wet day. Obviously you got a passenger in the car, so there's more just getting familiar with the configuration of the car and that sort of stuff. Performance wise, you know, when you have someone sitting next to you, I really want to get too hard because you're worried about their well-being as well. But yeah, it all ran smoothly the day was good. Looking forward to doing some dry running. So I can sort of get a gauge between the ride days are quite appreciated after around the Monday afterwards. Have you got any of those coming up or something? Yeah, I think there's probably two or three more over the year. I'm not sure exactly where yet I know tech was going to play in the end but their sponsors on today. But yeah, the more times I can get behind the wheel and that car more familiar with it before bath is that up. All right well thanks again for joining us on the inside too because again. Thank you for having me. It's a great pleasure. Anyway. Welcome to our super cars, we're at Phillip island, and it's one of those moments of where are they now? Because saying next to me is Steve ellery, who's not here because he's racing. He's not here because he's got nothing to do this weekend. He's here because his son, one of his two sons, Dalton was racing in train team. And after you stepped down in O 7, it must have been there was a bit of a break now from then to now, but you've been racing with your boys for a couple of years. Yeah, it's a funny story. I sort of stepped out of supercar racing after bathurst and it was about 13 or 14 years for me out of an actual race car. And my boys are race go karts their whole lives. And I got back in the carting a little bit there over the years, but a couple of years ago, the boys got into production car racing. And I decided to dust off the helmet, I guess if.

"He has this attitude of how to win and he wanted to win and he wanted to be perfect at what he did when Jamie came along and we first tested him. We could see straight away that Jamie actually had potential more speed than we than we thought. And Jamie was amazing with his feedback and the amount of information he could absorb doing laps. It was really spectacular. Without a drive for the 2006 season, Jamie wing cut flew from Victoria to Queensland to meet with triple-A management, Roland Dane talks about that fateful day. He did fly up short notice to talk to me after bathurst and 2005. And he had a sit down with me had met a couple of the key engineers as well. And yeah, basically made it clear that he'd do whatever's necessary to get to get his bum in the in the seat of one of our cars. He. His motivation was clearly there from the start. His hunger was there. And he was the only one of the three people that I was seriously considering at the time. Who didn't immediately ask about money? Triple H Lee driver was Craig lounge, the most popular driver in Sue because history, and the man that Rowland was building the team around. So when he first came to the team, he was enthusiastic. He was probably a little bit Shaw as well. But his enthusiastic and really keen to learn and develop as a driver, like we all were when we were first getting an opportunity with the major team like that. Rollins said that the team was looking for a number two driver for one important reason. You were looking for a number two driver could double up as you're allowed to in those days. For the enduro races and give us the best possible chance of winning winning the battles 1000. And we already had that stage a number one driver in Craig. So yes, we wanted somebody who had the potential to grow into a major force, but that particular point in time at the end of O 5 is about putting together the strongest possible team for bassist 1000. Craig lounge. I wasn't involved in the actual decision making of sawing Jamie, but I know at the time that role and did make that point that we're looking for a teammate that was in the same sort of heart stature as me and really that the focus for role and from my understanding was more so better. And that was obviously a race that has enticed role under come to Australia in the first place. So that was his goal was to put a super team together to get the result of bathurst and hopefully a championship. Roland explains how Jamie appeared on his radar. To be honest, there was nothing nothing at GRM that drew drew me to him. Partly because the most of the time he was at GRM was just before I was in Australia full time. But that was the way very aware of his formula Ford track record. And also at tasman, we'd watched him provide exemplary support to their number one driver at the time Jason Richards in the enduro races at sandown and bathurst. And at the time, my principal goal, then was to try and win our first bathurst. And we needed somebody who'd be great support for Craig lands. So, you know, those those were the key factors. Couch he saw that Jamie had some qualities that made it obvious to the team that he would succeed. Jaime's very easy to get along with. I mean, you know, we got along very well from the beginning. I actually knew him from when again he drove for tasman. Motor sport, which is sort of what lands Val smash sort of morph them to invent I already knew him before call it. I got to Triple H you know and look so yeah, we've always had a very close relationship as sort of friends more than more than sort of even work colleagues as such. So that made the sort of jump really easy, I guess from that point of view Mark dutton was already well established at triple 8. However, the new young gun caused a few changes in the engineering structure. It always race engineer the year before with Steve ellery. But because we had a young up and coming talent in Jaime, ludo ludo wanted to put the engineering race engineering hat back on. So I was demoted from race engineer to Dave engineer on that car. It was actually probably one of my nicest end of year performance reviews I've ever had. Because I was getting demoted there actually being nice to me and I even got a pay rise, which was, yeah, two tenths of not a lot. It's still not a lot, but pay rise is still a payroll. So yeah, finally enough it was my demotion, which was my most pleasant end of the year of you today. Craig lounge said Jamie had an approach to how he went racing, which he had seen in another successful champion. I look at Jamie and I see a lot of Mark scaping him in the sense of his mannerisms, the way that he operated in a sense of as I said, the data, all that side of it, he worked extremely hard behind the scenes with just all the small things, even to a point where still today at the beginning of every season, you know, our first test day, Jamie has to run in 5 sets of shoes. And he will never go to a racetrack with a brand new set of shoes. You'll always have to have run them, or use them. He's against he's done it, but he's against different color schemes of one off color schemes at rice weekend halfway through it because again for him. It's a mental thing in the sense of or psychological thing to change. David couchy do you work very hard, you know, behind the scenes on himself. You know, I mean, you know, not just his fitness, but he's preparation and approach to the race weekend. You know, and each driver, each driver does approach that that differently. But yeah, I just remember always remember a real real attention to detail and just not leaving any stone unturned, basically. Mark dutton was never afraid to ask a question even if it might come across as silly or obvious. So which is great, yeah. It's things that you encourage your kids to do you encourage everyone to do. But he would do it and he continues to ask those questions. So that, for me, that willingness and want to learn and improve that that was the standout from day dot. Craig lounge. He really literally understood took on board the settings of the car, the way that the team operated the philosophy of what the team had. Had.

S. that they did this well it is good news as long as China keeps its word and the problem is with the with the China at the Beijing government you have to trust but verify is recused themselves hi I will believe it when I see it they've been behind in their phase one part of their trade deal in terms of the promise that they made about buying some of our cultural products and manufactured products such up for now the fact that they're signing on the dotted line and agreeing to do that it was a positive thing and you know we we are starting to see just get all the luggage of information this week that the economy in many sectors are starting to pick up the shop retail we saw that I was looking at some of the information about packages being delivered which is a good sign of commerce flowing in the United States those numbers are positive self they're the real since those strong signs that this recovery is really you know go get some steam all that said week after week this is gonna be a slow process Hillary it's not gonna happen overnight but we're off to a good start well that's so important and we all need that which leads to my next question okay so unemployment still remains very high okay now how much is the fact that we have these states that have seen an increase in some of the middle time increasing the number of covert nineteen positive patients how much could that affect us and bring us back or I have to say I keep hearing these are young people that are being infected and it's not going to bring down and put pressure on our health system does it concern you okay it's a great question first Robert I used just before I came out I was examining this state unemployment data and it's very interesting what we're finding is that it's not surprising actually that states like Georgia state's like cuts off Carolina states like Nebraska states like Idaho Arizona are seeing big declines in the unemployment rate meanwhile states like New York and Connecticut and Illinois and Washington state California and New Jersey are having very high unemployment rate so there are there's a big distinction between these blue states we had the red states hi insults are right out of the gate the red states are doing better but that's also where you're seeing more cases now will coronavirus and some people don't he led states like Florida and Georgia opened up too early you know it's just early to tell on that but I would I would just caution your listeners about something that's important I do not pay attention to cases okay I don't pay attention on the people tested positive what I pay attention to his hospitalization rates and death rates the belfry factually have continued to fall that's good news yeah what we're measuring only see more people call a bad virus is precisely what people said we should be doing is testing people so a lot of people the vast majority of people fast charging them to court of Irish but they don't get sick well that is really so important and I'm waiting to find out how many people have a you know end up having immunities because they've already had it didn't know they have a lie in that that's going to be that's going to be most important it's just about your permission we're getting it it's so contradictory and before we move on I mean I just have to say on Friday the president of the Boston fed Eric Rosengren I'll I'm sure you're very very familiar with he announced that well he cautioned that the U. S. economy isn't likely to have a fast recovery and more support will be needed from the federal reserve in Congress which reiterated comments right the chairman Powell made so what would you say you know what can you hang with us Steve we don't mind hanging with us there's so much to talk about we will be right back Hey this is Hilary Kramer millionaire makers say without Steve Moore has some important insights Dr in you can the the day that I die the the day that you so can you you've been as the will of the students goes so goes the will of the nation this is a central theme of the new movie returned to the hiding place the.
