"At the Steve Cochran show Hey we got out a mug animal the man with two names it's only pronounced as one just such a great job covering football not just on the bears but also northwestern with that David in the morning you Adam hope good morning everyone as we speak catalog right now you know you get impeachment hearings going on you've got controversies and travels around the world but nobody is more troubled then all of Chicago and hip gate what is the true story of the hip of one mystery risky as we know it look at mint mixture risky did suffer a hip injury the the other night in Los Angeles the key question is is how severe was it really he took a knee from Michael proctor's of the rams on the last Sacchi took in the second quarter and he was evaluated at halftime somewhere communication breakdown happened whether it was you know starting with Mitch trying to conceal how much pain he was actually in the trainers not realizing it and the head coach obviously not realizing it because he was Colleen plays like that thirty in one sprint option that you would never call if you I realize that your quarterback was as hard as he clearly was so this was a a the Bakul in the bears didn't handle it well I don't think they handled the communication to NBC very well either because all of America in anybody's Chicago watching on TV was left thinking that this was a bad gene which you really wasn't and it doesn't make sense the bench mature risky in that moment when you're still only down ten and have the football that there's really no logic there whatsoever but this is just the latest in what has been a really tough year for both Matt Nagy in Mitchell travesty and just another crisis here to navigate so I get all that and I don't envy captain skeptic here but why I give you the sideline hug with plastic wrap around both of our heads to tell you you got to be honest with me about how you're hurt and and take a seat young man what what what else all the secrecy about well I think there was a realization that it true best key it was probably a slow realization for Matt Nagy realizing how hurt he was and how he that you know probably what I just said Nagy probably realize he had called place he shouldn't have because he didn't know how bad these quarterback was hurt now by the way that's unacceptable you know whether it's the quarterback communicating once the trainers assisting coach is doing their jobs on the sideline because that's part of their job you got fifteen people in that food chain could go coach we got her quarterback here well in players always want to play and I will give you credit for that and so that's why those guys are on the sidelines training staff your doctors your assistant coaches are crucial in that communication level they need to know when players are hurt when those players aren't telling them they're hurt that's part of what happens on the sidelines and so I think what happened is Nagy finally said look if you really can't move if you can't sit on a bench of that's true because now you said that yesterday and household image could even sit down he was so hurt well then I think he finally said the match you need to tell me the truth here and watch Mitch did he said all right then you're out and that day I just it did I understand the optics on television it didn't look good but I also don't see any logic whatsoever why you would bencher risky.

It's a small cutter remained in dark rooms, and undisclosed locations from time to time right secret handshakes and a knock at the door usually, I've never been more down the middle in my left the far left and the far-right of the problem solution, and I have never hated both parties more than I have at this point. For destroying country. One day at a time, but there's not a lot of me either. You know in, in this business if she the far right knuckleheads. In a few far left, knockouts. No, I I'm with you. I'm a never Trump Republican. There's three of us right left apparently because up selling your soul. Apparently, is what you do. Now. If your thank you mentioned Coon. Yeah. Yeah. Couldn't be prouder. It's so it's you're right, it's hard. If you're I'm looking at time now. Okay. Old man alert. Stay off my lawn. Stay off my lawn. But back in the day when I was came up in politics, you had a Republican of the could have a Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldberg, but also to Nelson. Rockefeller Democrats, by turns could have a George McGovern but also had George Wallace, you know. So both both parties had a pretty broad tent. Now it's so narrow and the Democrats are moving more and more to the progressive left. It's no good. Democrats running around going socialism and thinking you're going to get elected is insane. Republicans running around saying, I can't say anything bad about the guy in the White House. No matter how nuts he is, is insane. And I believe that you're going to have a large portion of this hundred million didn't vote, last time come out question is here. They're gonna vote for it because our friend, Pat Brady. I also agree with him completely in his point is the Democrats will lose this election based on who they pick not on whether Donald Trump is ineffective candidate, if in fact, they picked the wrong person. But right now out of the five hundred NATO of declared who knows who the right person is you're gonna watch this Bates, because that's gonna be, of course, three to our debates. I mean, I don't think I wanna do anything I like for three to our segment, and there's no win. If you're moderating a debate because you're supposed to stay out of it, but you're supposed to ask probing questions. I don't know how those two work. Plus how seriously how am I gonna be on stage? At one time. It's eleven or something like that, in NBC is trying to get as many. Moderators as possible. Check out about this last week. They got one hundred twelve moderators and fifty eight candidates. Anyway back. Thanks for appearance. Whatever I was annoyed with last time. I'm done. We've made up. "TV back to the Steve Cochran show. Nine twenty seven. Very taken with the organization. Let it be us and Sydney McConnell scare Ross Cochran is here as well. Announce what about Russia too, but routes we're talking about some of the myths that people have in regards to fostering, give me a couple of. Yeah. I mean, the thing I'll speak to I think a lot of people can have a concern that about what you know, if they have child that's already in the home or multiple children in like what bringing in a kid from the system does the because of the TV image of foster kid is damaged and they might be violent or they might be some kid went through fetal alcohol syndrome and has behavioral issues or whatever. Right. So the two things about that. Right. The that they are kids. Right. And as great as your kids are your kids also have plenty of issues to right. And I think what happens is we play up the dramatic nature when in reality. It's just like these kids have been through trauma, and you can get a quipped on. How Trump part of the training part of the training you go through training to become apparent one of the things that learning I most excited about with going through foster care and not and Willie wanting to foster is. Expanding goes world, right? Like, she has this world where she's well loved by grandparents while of life, and we want her to know that like this people out there who have had different experiences, and she has we think it's gonna make are more. Well, rounded person on top of the fact that it's the caseworker who's going to advocate for your family. The caseworker wants you to continue to do this. So they're going to make sure that you have a child who is the right fit for your family. And they're gonna help you work through whatever issue that will come up in the same way. It's like having an advocate for your child. Right. If if I have an issue with Abigail, I don't have anybody other than Lauren who can help me work through that issue. Right. Like me. Susan along with the coming out tomorrow to event, which give you the details on again, speak to what you want people to know. What's let's get people involved. What do they need to do? People can easily become a child welfare warrior. They can donate to five a one C threes that support work like we do. They can also donate to us. That would be awesome. Maybe they can become causes court appointed special advocates. That's the way to volunteer and mentor child they can become a foster parent like Ross and do respite care that they can become a foster parent and work with the child for a longer period of time. Maybe they can become an adoptive parent and adopt from foster care. It's not one model. There's tons of ways that you can you can really spread the love and change a kid's life. They can support families who do foster care and who who are involved in foster care and involved in adoption rose with cost. Oh, it's free. This this whole big myth. That's out there. People. Go wasn't. I can't afford to do no legal costs completely free lawyer. And each child comes with a stipend that he or she gets to keep till? Here. She turns eighteen or graduate from high school, and in this is new they get to go to college for free. If they go to stay school, which is tremendous of the training itself is hollow. So it's thirty nine hours. So if you think about it, it's a week of work for a child, right? And we all if for those of you pretty fair commitment, you did more than a week of work to get ready for your top. You did more than a week to get your learner's permit to learn how to write. And at thirty nine hours is structured or you could do it piecemeal fashion. If you don't have the time Susan, can you speak them. You can do it online. Now. Yeah. So again, it's not gone that Barry what else either one of you something else, you know, barrier to entry that people might bring up anything come to mind. I think the biggest thing to say is that not only is there a way for you to be a parent. Right. I think people often are like dude, I could get too attached. Right. And the truth is if you if you if that is what you're saying right now in your car, you listen to this like you are the exact right person to jump in with us because kids need kids deserve attachment kids deserve the love that they should have gotten that. They haven't gotten and you whether you're doing it for two days or the rest of the kids life like you can be a part of changing that kids story. And I think also, you know, if you are corporation, or if you're someone who is listening to this who has some level resource. I would love to talk to you personally, one of the things that I'm most excited about what is it is an agile organization. It's an organization that allows that we have the capacity to meet with people wherever they are at and figure out the best way for them to help these kids and says once the money goes to like when you raise money for the organization, what do you do with the money goes to to increase the impact of our programming that helps children get. Into foster homes, and then helps them become a Dopp did cover the cost of folks that have to do this leg, work and scale the more work. We can do we're talking about eighteen thousand kids, and if you have your way you'll have mall in homes with the end of the weekend. Very good at this. While you are very good at this batch yourself on the back the event on Saturday. But a friend of yours texted me about their annual golf, outing and dinner on September ninth at ten AM that you can find out on the website for it. Let it be. They're speaking to you, Steve golf Ave about that. Right. Sponsors of that golf outing. Let me tell you. If your sponsor you were in front of a lot of parents here in front of all of us are aggravated network our social media and now during this time this pivotal time when we're at the tipping point, you're in front of all of them to and a texture from seven seven three what about having an extra bedroom? I've heard through foster parents, I must have a separate bedroom for child. I'm not sure the space you can put two little girls together, you can put too big girls together commonsense. Yes. And the space I think people especially in the city can get really nervous about. But that's something that the, you know, they want the system wants you to do this where we want you to do this. And let us these events wants you to involve in a way, you can write like we're all on the same team. Same team to get you jumped in. So we'll figure out the best scenario for you. In the space at your. You're quite taken with this place. I am quite taken with this place. So yeah, I I'm actually working for us now. So my. Thank you. I think so too. Resource development. Yes. So my role is going to be talking to everybody who's listening to this about ways that they can get involved as they can sports organization ways that you know, corporate partnerships and corporate sponsors, but also ways that people can really fund this work that we're doing income alongside us in the work. We're doing wise a matter too. I think a lot about one of the programs that I'm most taken by the target of recruitment program and the idea that Susan and her team and now, I guess technically. I'm I'm on the team now part of the adventures. We can take a child who their case is for whatever circumstances made them the challenge to place, and our whole job is finding a home for them finding a place for them to belong. That's all that we have to do, and we can be agile in talking to different parents finding the right parents child in a way that. Just how can you not be excited about that kind of work using the powers and the God given gift of communication that you have for good and not evil. Yes. Exactly. Let it be people in last week or last year by Munin Susan here. We were talking about this is like, hey, that's the place. I did it through you know, like random small world connections. And they're like, we know who your son is. And then look no is part of the team the vendors that what you call. A new title child welfare warriors. But I'll tell you, you know, last Thursday when this terrible tragedy happened what I saw was there were two little girls coming into foster care, and they didn't have a place to put them until they were able to come to us, and we were able to find a family for them to go to that night. Time is of the essence is this some even thinking about for a long time. I think the best thing you can do go to this event tomorrow and get some of these questions answered you know, it's easy to be a good person. And think about it and put it off. It doesn't mean you're not a good person. If you do put it off putting it off gotta stop it some point if this is in your heart. Come to this event and find out more and again details. Libertyville tomorrow. What time ten o'clock clock? We'll have refreshments. We'll have doughnuts. We'll have speakers. You will learn I say about twelve hours worth of work in two hours. And every question you could possibly ever get answered question. Big big an hour long of questions and the answer. And there's no dumb questions. If you have any question at all question, you feel guilty about listen, you're doing a big deal. I take a child into your life. So asking the question while we have licensing experts there, we have CASA of Lake County there, we have representatives there who want to hear from people about what they wanna see. It's a it's going to be awesome. And Ross is you know, your local cabinet avenue of doing this New Jersey for twenty years. Yeah. Tate's unless they're so proud of you. And for all those people who go see if you talk about your family, a lot is this, and you're gonna talk more about what it and you wouldn't necessarily. Yeah. Because it's a great organization and thrilled at Ross is a part of it. Thank you for the work that you do thanks for having everyday. And again, let it be. "Back to the Steve Cochran show on seven twenty WGN. In the newsroom what's going on? Now have a chopper above Batavia high school, and what we tell you is there. Dozens of police agencies there on the scene lots of police vehicles in the parking lot armed police officers around the building on this report that an armed man was seen going in to the high school. This was about maybe forty minutes ago now where the city Batavia posted on their Twitter feed and Facebook page that a man with the rifle was seen entering the building. The good news that we can tell you is that Batavia school high school doesn't begin until about seven thirty bell and the parking lot that we can see from the skycam nine chopper nine is empty. So a lot of folks apparently had not come to school, and perhaps got the warning in plenty of time not to show up their buses are being turned around taking kids back home or to other places and the school is on lockdown. But there the lots of police there right now, and we will bring you more as we get it here on seven twenty. WGN? I support I saw in line was at six forty one. When the city said something about this the students weren't there, presumably faculty and staff would be we don't have any information, though, about the gun going off anybody doing any shooting per se. We just have that much information right now, that's it, and you know, the scene outside of the high school. You know, normally in these situations you see people coming out of the building people being filed away to safer locations. None of ad. It's all police lots of police vehicles in the parking lot. No other vehicles in the parking lot. The roads have been blocked off on their police in various positions. We won't tell you their positions around the building is they're searching for whatever this was. So they're obviously taking this very seriously and doing this doing a methodical sort of go in and search routine him looking at some video now, there's a whole host of emergency vehicles all around the school. I'll honor what you said too. But no any no information about this person. Then in fact, this is what happened. Evidently, somebody saw that and known for. That any shots have been fired the students don't normally get to school until a little later in the mornings. So hopefully, presumably none of them are very very few people were in the building at the time. And hopefully that does you people are safe, and it's hard to tell again from the number and the just the type vehicles there in the parking lot of emergency vehicles. There are not ambulances. There are not. I didn't see any ambulance, nor did I or fire trucks. It was just police vehicles. So that would be, you know, hopefully, good news that nobody's been injured jump in here. When you get more information, we'll do Rebecca Bonner's on a phone line. She's a Texas elementary schoolteacher, she turned her students artwork into a dress. She is the most valuable person on the planet on WGN radio this morning, Rebecca, John Williams here. Good morning. How are you? Oh, good morning. I'm great. We make this conversation a little shorter than we originally planned because we're dealing with the troubling all that situation here. You are an elementary school teacher, right? Yes. Yes. I'm at work right now in Highland village. Texas tell us what happened there. Well about a year ago. I was having my into the year art show, and I've seen a couple of ideas on Facebook about decorating dresses for different different ways, different different occasions. And I thought it would be fun for my kids to get excited about coming to the art show to decorate my dress. And so they would have you know, to come to our show and show not only their art work off. But also the artworks that was I was wearing office. So and that worked out really good. So this year for our district art show decided to wear it again, you know, show them that they could come to the district art show. They see me in the dress again 'cause they always asked me to wear it again. And my daughter took a picture and posted on I think it was Twitter. I didn't even know. And then she called me the next day to like, hey, you might want to get on Twitter. So that's pretty much how it happen. So then you go kind of IRA hun. Yeah. I mean kind of within that weekend. I wasn't really like I said, I I have a Twitter account. But I haven't been really active on it. And though I kinda got back on and started watching that the Twitter numbers go out. And and then, of course, it went to other social media outlets as well. So yeah, I kind of went viral though, and it was kind of shocking. And so you teach about five hundred eighty students ages three to eleven is that correct? Yes. Uh-huh. And did they all ages? Okay. All ages contributed to the dress. Yes. We have some guidelines like keep it at small as the palm of your hand. And don't work and appropriate thing things. I might like. So there was some coaching there. But yeah, pretty much. Everybody had a chance to go and draw headed out for about two weeks on a bag table with all the sharpies fabric markers. And you know, I kind of walked back there and keep an eye on things that for the most part they took care of business and decorated it, I think a real nice take away from this story. I mean, everybody's March madness. And you're talking to a studio full of people that like sports I enough to celebrate. Art, if if if I if I writing I would make sure every school had a fulltime art teacher. I think that is that be great. So some kids can't play basketball don't wanna play football, but they have an artistic should embrace that in. I think this viral dress really does that well, and my my experience as a child I didn't have our Intel news to Kansas when I was in third grade. And I only had it for one year in the moved away back to Arkansas didn't have it again. And then actually moved out of the country and had art again, and our friend Harley sixth grade on and never stopped. But you know, I remember sitting in that third grade room when that when we had art for the very first time and thinking, oh my gosh. I hit the jackpot, you know, actually have an art teacher, and I get to do their own school. Pretty awesome. And it's also an example of collaboration, and what we can all do together and make something beautiful that wasn't planned or you know, it's not perfect. Right. That's nice because things other life lessons. We think we learned from sports you could learn from creative art teacher. Let's collaborate. Let's work together. Let's do something. We can all you know, feel victorious about. And if you have not yet look at Rebecca Bonnard, the Texas implementary school teachers dress online, congratulations. Rebecca, thanks for. Thanks for that. And what lucky kids to have a teacher like that seven thirty two WGN radio news right around the corner..

"It is the Steve Cochran show, but a minute before nine o'clock, and before we get to the news and take one more break to get there. We're just having a discussion off the air about the Amazon go store, and I've not gotten a fair explanation of how it works. So I walk into the Amazon go store, which is located where a write off Michigan Wacker on Wacker drive right by the entrance by the architecture Chicago architecture center, and would you describe it as many upscale grocery store, like a whole foods sort of feel? Yeah. Kind of smaller than your average zipper market. So I downloaded the Amazon go app and scan it when I go in his scanner Amazon knows him in the store. Then I go around and pick up anything, I want anything you want. I carry it out. There's no there's no checkout. There's no clerks that. I just walk out in it knows what I have. I'm not shoplifting. I don't have to scan out and I walk out. And then I get a Bill. You get you get a receipt emailed to you. Right. Based on what you're going to be charged. Yes. Yes. Okay. How does it know what I took very knows cameras cameras everywhere watching you, and they have cameras instantly translate. What what I've taken or doesn't. A guy named Bob Amazon somewhere who's going through going. Well, it looks like Dave had himself to stakes and a six pack. You're also being scanned for a number of different diseases while you're shopping as well. Political affiliation. But the cameras have to be aware everywhere. There everywhere. And I mean, every you have a virtual carte. So if you take something off the shelf, and you don't want it you put it back, and then it comes out of your car. But if I have big hands, I can put a lot of things in my hands. Maybe the camera didn't pick it up. Mr. smart guy, a youth lane that you try to download that app. Now since you said that. I'll be rejected by the internet. And they're clear that they are not using facial recognition cameras just say now, so you're safe there. So they using handle recognition cameras fetal because it's got to be something where they can pick. What I'm carrying Steve why don't you go try it out or or if not just go next door to pot belly? "Of man and the people Saturday at ten and WGN TV back to the Steve Cochran show. Nice. Bobby and the Davis death was today. I fell in love with spike so much class along with you. We shed many tears over his passing all of you make my mornings great every day. Love y'all conserve listener, Linda, thank you for that. Person on the planet today. I mean is quite a story as we go to the phone and talk to Shelley in just a second about it. But the short of it is Shelly Monson is a Utah transit authority operator. And I don't act. Shelly welcome. I don't exactly know what that means the Dr do you conduct. What do you do? I'm a bus operator. I'd drive the muster the cities and in August, somebody shot the bus that you were driving at in a town. In Utah, pick up the story from there. What happened? About five fifteen in the morning and less for heights park was headed to Farmington. Station to pick up downstairs when a bullet. Let through the window back on my MCI bus and. At that point. You have no idea why it was happening or where it came from. Now, I know there was an orchard right there that I was able to take the police back through eighth down a. Gentleman that was intoxicated out there. So that's probably the last time you ever experienced anything involving a gun. Not so much. For the most part. All right. So tell me about something, that's maybe even more memorable. You've had some trials tribulations, but you'll love your job. And at one point you came across a teenager that needed help pick that up. The last one day. Warning. I just finished my express to out late, and I was headed back to the staff. And I got about the northbound Taylorsville like it. Somebody walking on the freeway by the barrier of the overpass, two hundred switches in between an offramp and onramp. Nobody should be walking. And it's a leg. Go up on the air. So I flew across the land pulled over and took off running and available to pull him off the wall as they were laying. They're gonna jump. And did you recognize the situation for what it was right away or? To comprehend it. No, it was almost instant because in that area. There's no reason to walk right there. There's an offramp on one side and on ramp on the other side that part that goes over two hundred north there's there's no reason to walk right there Shelley you, of course, being in your job. You're you're aware, and you serve the public, and you work with a lot of different people, this this what you did to to save this life was it as much about who you are as as a professional or did have more to do with who you are as a person. I think a lot of boats. The personal part of this in your story is really heartbreaking. You've lost a couple of kids. You had a nephew the committed suicide you easily could have done nothing here because you've been through it out. Then we told the story of what happened to you in August. The fact that you stepped in we're able to physically encounter this young person and keep them from doing that mazing. Do you know how she's doing now? I know that she's safe. I've spoke with her mother, and she's still. Say well, that's all you need. I guess for an hour. That was what I needed. You're an amazing person. I have to say I don't know that I want to be too close to even the next couple of minutes based on what's going on every few months with. But God bless you that you're out there because it seems like you're in the right place at the right time. And there's a reason you're there. Yeah. There's something to be said for being very like to see what's around you beyond just driving your boss on the road. You know that that extra and I don't know if that's a mom thing. You know, always looking beyond just your task. You know, often we get locked in on what we're doing. I think about my own time. I wouldn't even necessarily see the things happening on the side of the road or people live their lives with their face down buried in screens. And it's also one thing Shelley to to be able to. See it and comprehend it, but to actually control the situation to be a professional. Split-second say we're going to cordon off the traffic. We're going to take care of the stat. That to me is is something that I don't know every single person and even wanted to help would be wouldn't even know what to do there. Yeah. I hope you get a chance to spend some time with this. This young lady down the road at some point. I hope she gets the help. She needs sounds like she is. Inner able to you know, to to have some time together because certainly deserves that be a good thing for you to I suppose, but yeah, all I can say is thanks for what you do every day. And let's remind people that there is help out there. The people at the end of the suicide prevention hotline are folks that know exactly how you feel there folks have been there done that or love somebody who has and there's no judgment. And if you ever find yourself in a position like that you're concerned about somebody in your life who you're afraid might take their own life. Eight hundred two seven three talk is the number eight hundred two seven three eighty two fifty five keep it handy. Handed out and spread the word eight hundred two seven three talk and Shelly mountain. It's a it's just a it's just an honor to have you on the show. Thank you for having me. You are the most valuable person on the planet. Hold the line. If you can, wow, we have varying degrees of MVP's, and I know they're all pretty special, but that that's really at beyond that's above and beyond. I think about what she's gone through. She's a mother of five she lost the baby to SIDS. She lost another child in a car accident. And she had a nephew that committed suicide. I mean Nobody'd ever be a judger if she looked the not look the other way but wanted to avoid stuff like that. And to think she was shot at in August. And then this amazing. I think I think what you gotta remember too. She's not a first responder, right? Sure woman who is a bus operator, and I know from taking the bus. There are a lot of times that there is a tunnel vision. For bus drivers to say, I got to get from one for not even they don't even care about. What's happening? Behind him. But to have the wherewithal to essentially become a first responder says pretty impressive. It's miraculous. All right. It is seven thirty. And let's take a quick break. We'll come back at you headlines. In a moment, I'm seven twenty WGN..

"Live from the studio. This is the Steve Cochran show on seven twenty WGN. Enroll familiar with the annual puppy bowl that takes place at halftime an animal planet, but now returning for second year animal planet's presenting the dog bowl, which is a special event for adult dogs who are frequently passed over for the puppies. It takes place the night before the Super Bowl the dog bowl feature sixty three older dogs some with special needs, and they will be available for adoption. Joining us right now today show, correspondent an award-winning animal activists chill report. Welcome back to the show. Jill. Oh, thank you so much for having me back on this freezing cold day for you. I'm very grateful to be given the time. So we all know the puppy bowl. And this is something that has become a mainstay for a Super Bowl Sunday. Give us a little bit more Dodd bowl. Well, you know, I am so honored to be part of puppy bowl for many years. Now, I do the back stories are called up close and personal Willie actually show where the puppies came from. And people will be amazed because you know, as adorable is acute, they are they sold or you just want to eat the screaming, they're so cute. Meanwhile, they came from harrowing situations to get to the gridiron. So I get to tell those wonderful stories of survival, and I came up with the idea for dog ball based on that, you know, figure puppy bowl. We got ten million viewers last year. Such a huge hit second highest rated game. Why not do the same and shine the same dire? Important exciting light on older animals. So dog bowl. We had our inaugural year last year, I'm the host and consulting producer. And I this is like my dream job. And I feel like this is by far my greatest achievement because I have six rescue dogs and four a super seniors. I always older I'm all about the underdog to the shelter world. This is a way an entertaining way of letting people know that choice of older in the show is incredible. He will love it. Now. Jill you always have sex at any given time or like, how do you? Yes. Yes. You should see my house out. It's actually very funny because we're not as cold as you. Oh my goodness. In New York. It's about I think five or ten degrees now, but I set up like a we we makeshift, you know, it looks like a football field. And we we pass because I don't want to take them outside. Because as I said I had dogs up to seventeen years old. And you know, it's too hard on them. So yes. So my six rescues and of all types of sizes, and but I always try to go because I know that when people walk the biggest challenge, we can't give people into the shelters, we can't get animals out. So anytime, we get people into submitting if you want a puppy, and that's what you want. That's great. You're still adopting. But I know the plight of the older animal, and I know when you go into any shelter. What do you see seniors pit bulls and special needs and those are the ones left behind. Hey, the older ones had a home most likely, and they were dumped in the twilight of their lives to know fall to their own. And you can just imagine how terrifying it is for them when they should be just loving there. Older years and hanging and laying in a bed cuddling and kissing with their owner, they're sitting in a cold shelter going. What happened to me? Where's my home that I had all these years? So it's so important. We are voice shows like this wonderful shows like yours, and your your listeners you can make a difference when you go into a shelter consider the older pet. They're wonderful best gift you're gonna give yourself Joe. What was your success last year and getting the older dogs adopted, and what are the benefits of owning an older dog a versus? Okay. First of all one hundred percent adoption record, which I am. So proud to say I've continued that record all may rescue segments. But God, but we had over forty dogs last year. Everyone got adopted people. Fifteen fifteen years every puppies got adopted this year, I have over sixty three dogs up to seventeen years old dream that we will be proudly boasting next year. They all got a home. And what I tell people the Joyce first of all they've been there done that. They'd rather sleep in your bed than eat the bed. They hang out with you. They chill when you chilled. They're often housebroken because they've been in a home. They are so wonderful yet. I can tell you firsthand having adopted older. They've got so many years in life left to them when I rescued my almost nine year old dachshund, I couldn't keep up with him. He's twelve now. And he just runs circles around me. And I always tell people you've got to make the right match because it's not about a home. It's about the right home. And that's what a reputable reliable shelter will do make the right? Match a senior person someone who is much older. You don't want to give them a puppy because more often, sadly, the puppy will outlive them. Then what happens to that dog? Or if you have a newborn in the house, a puppy might not be the answer for you either. 'cause then you have two babies, so you know teenagers are great with older dogs middle. People are great with older dogs seniors are great with older dogs. I mean, it's like there's really no excuse first and foremost, not to adopt, but not to Golder, they're just so chilled and mellow and people don't understand how great that difference can be in your everyday lifestyle. I think that sometimes people they are hesitant to get an older dog because they think they get shorter time with that. And you're gonna fall in love. Hey. Heartbreak waiting to happen. But here's the thing. I have so many stories when I found my four year old he was a Coon hound. They found him alongside the road. He lived homeless twenty because they said he was three or four seventeen years. I hear more stories long many more stories of long survival when they've been given the second chance at a new life, and you know, dogs a little way into their teams. I have a friend. The husband was adamant about not getting another dog. And she wanted wanted. She wanted an older dog. He's oh great. Now, we're gonna get another one. And it's gonna you know, heaven forbid something will happen to it center. He said this dog is like Cher ten years later. I thought we'd like literally I think they know because I can tell you from filming dog bowl, you know, up to seventeen dogs wheelchairs, and we were mixing dogs meeting for the first time sixty three adult animals. We did not have one issue. It was as if once they got an field. They were parading, and you know, printing. And pushing forward and definitely putting their best ball forward. Get home. They know it's their chance. They're not stupid. They know they're very spiritual animals, and they know this is a way for them to finally get the fervor loving home that they deserve. This is what they deserve. Thank should not be sitting in cages, they should be sitting in your warm home, and you cuddling them or the dog bowl takes place the day before this will be February second on animal planet, Jill Rappaport, who is the host and producer of the dog bull and also contributed for the puppy bowl, which is time of the Super Bowl on animal planet politicians coming up this weekend chill. Thanks so much for taking some time out to talk to us today. We appreciate it. Oh, I can't. Thank you enough on your freezing cold day. I hope all your wonderful listeners understand the joys of going older unless less get them to a shelter opt to adopt. That's the goal for all of us. Right. Thanks. You. Thank you so much, stay warm. All right, there you go chill Rappaport. That's that's good. The puppy bowl is a mainstay at this point in our house will we're we're probably we'll skip. Maroon five. The political and social reasons, but just because the puppy bowls. And I'm not a big dog person. And all of a sudden, I wanna go adopt wino-, Mary that's g like really really is. All right. Let's find out what's coming up in the ten o'clock news. Steve Bertrand, we're dealing with the weather again today that in some news from Foxconn in the WGN newsroom. Atten- got a.
