"I think it's pretty good. I was thinking romantic. I was thinking anything that would get the Miserable jilted single guys out on the dance floor to belt out a song at the top of their drunk lungs. Something like pearl jam black. Just frigging just to get all the drunk guy. Singing the chorus together would just kill the fucking mood at a wedding in like a. Here's here's the thing that concert. I went to a few weeks ago. The thing was is like a bad. That came up in like a counterculture lake situation in the nineties. Everyone grew up with them. And now it's like mainstream music so you had pearl jam on at a wedding. It would almost work very good. Depends on the brand groom. Yeah yeah throw like tears in heaven non or something that thing falling out windows microphone and make a dedication and this is too clumsy kids everywhere you go have this superman our shit. God i can't take credit for that. Clumsy kid job was an anthony. Jesernik joke fucking hilarious. Fuck it is. He's a standard thing jungle knickers zomig. Exactly how you say his name but freaking he is got the darkest fucking humor like morbid shit that you shouldn't laugh at and it's just fucking comet hurt by the algae won his. I think all you have to do it. Said jamie doing the busman's speech that it would be real thought it was great. James data idea carries family and they still bring up always the bust. They loved it. That was the absolute best. We're talking about like sixteen years now. They're still talking about it. God i have to do another best. Man speech coming up Because dave bell is getting married and so it's against mary he dan but they postponed the reception. Just did the courthouse thing. So the reception is gonna be April thirtieth and I started thinking of a best man's speech. This is the second second marriage i started. Ranked live at candidness. It was like her last name. I i don't want on the everybody out. say oh. Welcome to the whatever family and good to see you and and everyone else on the on the family Thanks for coming. To the sequel. This is round two totally absolutely jamie. That'd be amazing. Let me tell you you you've Ed is some of the readings with us. And i think i mentioned at one time but spent a while. He would laugh if he's hearing this for some reasons that he had his wedding. His best friend brought up how his bride in him met and it was when he was dating another girl so he brought the cheated on the girl to you know with his now wife and we are the best man brought that up in the in the speech. Ooh oh that's amazing ed's just like you know like this and it was really. Oh my god. I was shit myself. That's almost like somebody bring up. Somebody's driving issues. That's almost says it's almost as bad as claiming. The groom was a canadian driving instructor. Yeah fuck that's all right now leading in work anyway you know. That's still has my favorite moment of any wedding reception with jamie with the camera. Running around and my sister-in-law's father love you like milk. Who's this got cameron formula like whole time a recording much. The way that that wedding will always go down in infamy not only because of the horrible -ness of my first marriage but that wedding is is when my dad stopped drinking. 'cause he was forced to 'cause he got wasted at my wedding and then fell over a table and then reopened the cash bar. Everyone drank until two. Yup i can only hope for something good. That was like after that. He didn't have another drink again. I'll tell you dead. I think your dad started at night by buying everybody drinks like crazy. Oh yeah and then. When i was leaving he gave me like four hundred in cash because he was so wasting sierra. I want you to have this other like all right. Dan thanks down. I do remember him falling on the ground at one. Oh got i thought my stepmom was gonna beat the living shit out of him you know. What can you do if wedding will be very happy. So what's what's the worst story. What's the worst story. What's the worst part about a wedding that you witnessed part of from guests acting out. Well i'll tell you what was it was almost at your wedding keith. because oh what might My daughter was there and she. I think i guess it was. My daughter was there and she went for the wedding cake and she like she like no one was watching is she reached out like she was to grab at the wedding cake over four. We can choose a knock knock the whole thing the hell over just got her before she did it i. She said she told me later. She's like you'll never believe what happened. Because he like nearly up just destroyed the whole thing. See i. I have an amazing one but unfortunately cannot share it. Because it's only honest understands it involves. I cannot say who it is. I cannot say when the wedding was but involves a very uncomfortable situation between the bride and her clothes. And i can't say anything else. I will fill you guys in off the air but just know that you got to remind me to fill you in off the air because it is okay. Well i guess i can't i. Is it a story we know. No oh i guess was java. Absolutely do not know what was the moment in probably next anytime. I shut myself when i was younger is probably the most uncomfortable i've ever been in my life..

"Amount of saturation will go through. So yeah so like i i think after that yeah right and left hand side of the four tent. There was like little water leaking in and like so robby nyerere kind of in the middle and he slept on me and like it never like flooded under us but definitely was forming puddles and all night. I'm like thinking you know what the fuck and. I woke up every anytime i go to sleep. I'm waking up like twenty five minutes later because it's so freaking cold even for me. I love the cold so cold. And it's like the storm all night and he slept through the whole thing. I think i got about a total of about forty minutes to sleep all night chooses and it like right now at this moment like i can tell you exactly how that feels anytime you ever camped like recently along time ago is always the same story in the morning you're just flick you feel beat up. Yeah and the three dads are like. Oh that was fun and but you know the thing about it is is like you don't remember the stuff that goes smoothly. Twenty years later this is true. It's not so like could robby robby now. Has the camping experience in the typhoon. So i mean that's that's something. I got sleep the next day. So whatever you're making member looking what were sorry. Where did you guys hook in her hands. Did you throw it. Did you throw it for distances was was at a badge that he could earn badge. Well that's the other thing is like before the rain late. Like they took a widdling class scouts. So he got certified in wiggling. So i bought my son lethal weapon. Bought him a really nice knife nineties. They spent the whole time like wittling when it wasn't storming and like the next day we're like taking the stuff across to the to the parking lot and the other side of the camp in ascended. The guy said this is the definition of a scout camp subsides. The sex i the definition of a scout camp is you you leave your kids alone with lethal weapons in the campsite where you go to the parking lot. You know didn't have anywhere else. No so it's fun. Merged her so it was. It was good but it was shitty. Two kids had kids kids fun. That's all they manage right. Yeah he had a blast so he could describe so many things that way. Chris- christmas party. Christmas lump hampshire. She no chino via luck back down drowning in the thirteen. Yes gino i did. Yes i did. yeah so so. I had a topic come across because i went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago. Nice nice ceremony. Nice nice seen the rain like a motherfucker very similar to your campaign story. But that was it was funny. It was what was funny. Was i was what mcrae straight there. This his his part of the show's over worth and now he's ready for bed Give them a cookie and he goes away Frigging was i know. Oh so wedding. Wedding wedding so i was sick as a dog leading up to it and like my kids eat. My kids both had sinus infections. Or whatever the fuck it was respiratory whatever and both of them tested negative. So i wasn't really worried about. I got a covert test anyway and it came back negative. But i'm fucking hacking along up right. So i'm fucking like keeping my distance and i'm going to the bathroom and i have to cough really bad. But there's this tickle in my throat that won't go away emphysema pretty martinez saying to myself. I can't sit down vitas. i told my wife. I can't sit down during the ceremony. Because if i start fucking checking during the vows. It's all all over. It's all over. So luckily i found a bottle of water and i just had this thing just full and every time i thought maybe i was going to go down. That road just took a big fucking gulp held it down but anyway i texted you guys from the from the reception because i was thinking to myself. If you were ever at a wedding that you didn't want to be. And i'm not saying that this was one of those. This is just because my morbid my fucking warped sense of humor. If you're ever at a wedding you didn't want to be at. What song could you request from the dj. That would fucking kill the mood. What song would make you a wedding. Saboteur anything heavy metal. Yeah i was gonna say i cum blood cannibal corpse that would be but ucla romantic. So the point. I thought of a decent one. I think what's what's that You know i. I don't know if this is the name of the song or not but it's If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life i know. That's that's a good one way. P. u. p. You cut out. What was the line. If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life. Never make a pretty woman your wife personal view game. Ugly girls mary. I think that beats mine. I had one more minute by weird. Al yankovic.

"No so good. So jamie went to saint louis over the week naked and how was how was that. I say los angles is pretty cool so nice little town compared to chicago. It's very tiny but It was not bad we have always wanted to go on. That saint louis arch. And that is. That's pretty cool. Going in. that thing is pretty awesome. It's takes four minutes here in this little tiny like bubble and it's really claustrophobic and go up slowly. Not not super fast. But as you go up there you get up there within four minutes. And you're allowed to be at the top for seven minutes and you can look all the windows at the top of the arch and think at six hundred and on my wife. Another six hundred thirty feet of lear. That was all it was cool. It was it was really neat. Seems like it would tilt tilt side when you're going you are you're actually on an angle looking at the windows and going up. It's it's weird. Holy cross oh. It's it's it's your like heinsohn you dated. I'll take i'd like the. Yeah it's it's me. Are you guys sitting when you go up that bubble. I'm just curious yeah. He had their seats. You're still in the bubble. It's kind of like Like an old lake Ferris wheel thing You go up the cool thing is. There's windows but you're not looking outside you're looking in between so you get to see all the construction and how they built it adra going up and i thought that was fascinating really fascinating. Yeah and then hit some barbecue places. Because they're young in saint louis. Ribs mature awesome Breweries a lot of yeah. Did you have a favorite brewery that your and he made a place called chef. lie Because they had a full menu so nice to eat. Eat their to shan y. Yes s. c. h. f. l. a. y. Liable with the foods made of. Yes yes good. This is awesome So yeah then with the forehands worried another really good berry but yells good time of hanging out. And we're only there for Saturday in the middle of saturday because we drove up takes about five hours from chicago and so drove their spent. Mostly saturday nights all sunday and then monday. We descend to hang out go to another brewery and then go on so who does the who does the driving on long trips. I knew how ever a i always do the driving. And i don't stop like i won't give myself a break or anything. I just keep going on my way to a trip coming home. I'm either little hung over or something like that. So then then we switch back and forth by going up there. Like i just get the fuck up there. I did right. That's diverge as me. Say that behind the wheel before. It's too much stuff. Replacement god i believe. That's what it sounded like with. The hood flew on your windshield. Along with a fucking reason. I is that my wife. My wife has such anxiety in the passenger seat on long trips. That just letter drive like it's not worth it because really the constant so down so down. You're going too fast on my. Why are you taking this guy. What are you doing got. it's not worth it. Just fucking drive just drive. I'll put my headphones on the fog alone. Does she get. Does she put the pedal to the floor of the passenger side now. Like no no she does like. There's longest a joke in my family. That i secretly married my mother and didn't know it because it's exactly what my father yes. It's very disturbing. Psychologically there's probably a lot of questions answer for that but fucking she'll she'll do the things you just kinda grabs onto the fucking arm wrestling so you're going to. Why are you going to say. Why are you going to so i just i just let dr tailgating quite a bit. I drive a certain way. I have a style which no i'm comfortable with it. Tempting the fades. Let's go no. It's a little bit. all right. My whole mike went camping on a rainy weekend. Oh my god yeah. I i My son and i went for a scout weekend to camping and it was. When i picked up we went with another father son when i picked them up. He said you've seen the weather. I said no. I haven't had a chance to look at it. He's like there's going to be this huge storm coming tonight. I don't even think everyone's gonna stay and it's exactly what he sent So great so we get there and everything's fine and and you know go through part of the day we get down to chevy's gone always mr by by phone salt you know. What is that movie. What is it. It's not my fault. Was that movie Was empire strikes. Back landau more states. Yeah i told you it's a forgettable movie. My so like all of a sudden like mid day starts just down pouring and would just like opens up a rating of a camping trip. Come on give me here. We had these three like canopy. Set up next to the pavilion at our campsite. Select the ground under the canopies Absolute mud and kids are up in the pavilion there. Like you know they got a dinner and shit like eventually like another group. We saw there like going to bed at like seven thirty. And i'm like oh my god you wanna bet a seven thirty. That's crazy in a half hour later. we're going to bed because it's so pitch black and just rainy. What else with a bunch of kids. So no edibles on this humble. What notables on this trip on mike no but luckily there was a flask. Well and i tax a nice. I'm trying to figure out how to get back to the tent. That's the other reason. I guess i wanted a and we get in there and the i don't know if if you guys know this but tense or not waterproof tense. Tenser watering it. So like if you get a certain.

"Or christmas biased. Steve how how did you find it a writing kid story. Look how did you find it. Different than writing stuff you read before i loved it because it you know when you're doing some of the my previous book the young adult ones whatnot. It's you have to get a little more detailed as far as storyline and you have to take things a little more serious for against book. I can just have fun. You know what i mean. It was a lot more fun. It wasn't as serious just anything that i would say that will that sounds a little goofy. It's like that He goes there. No steve did you add sexual intercourse yearbook. Just say no. If you say yes don't say back on is there is what's a. What's a really great character from this children's book while the lead character's name is ethan vaughn which is For those who are unaware. It was snow filthy. But you know what the food was. So fucking good. I just wanna ask any questions. All my dad loved to go have a drink there. Of course he loved to have a drink pretty much anywhere. Totally totally understand We got food picked up. Food there. obviously last year during the pandemic and because nobody was allowed inside eats. You could tell the place was going out of business because it was fucking november and it was cold and they did not have the heat on the building at all to save money and so bringing everybody like the employees. There's a man sitting by himself with a dinner and a little glass red wine and he's just like your drinking diner wine whole it's good. That's a level of misery. That i can only hope for one day. Oh my i've met him watching. You enjoy a night with your son. He's probably like anymore. One way mike you went the way it is. I felt like we were going the same way. And you know i like i knew getting this band of Fuck nuts together was going to be a challenge each and every week to get any kind of semblance of professionalism and usually what kills me. Is that by the middle of the show. We're good but in the beginning and then especially especially on the shows where the ultra wouldn't play and you wouldn't hear it it just turned into fucking chaos at the end of the very very fucking disaster and then in the in the middle could find it very easy to be set up in the middle of you know usually a pretty decent podcast but on either end is is just a fuck ladies and gentlemen this version of the bomb squad is brought to you by bizarre. "Thanks for having me on. So we just talked a little bit about Maine in the previous segment, but what other races are most affected by the shake up in the court. I'm not sure that there's a major Senate race that hasn't seen an impact from the court shake up for the court vacancy all across the country. Democratic Senate candidates have seen really unprecedented infusion of cash from small donors that came in organically any hours after Justice Ginsburg passed away. And Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, announced that there would be a floor vote on whomever President Trump will point later this week. Ah, you know, I've talked to Democratic strategist from Alaska, which was really a completely off the map race. Tio some of the most heated races. We're talking multimillion dollars in most of these contests out of basically nowhere at the homestretch. Use infusions of money that's going out all of these Democratic candidates to buy more television ads potentially hire more staff. One more digital spots doesn't mean they're going to win, but it absolutely shifted the landscape in an instant, almost Financially, at least in the Democratic Party's favor. And what is the connection there that people are trying to save? I mean, there's obviously concerned that now that President Trump has indicated that he will try at least to appoint another Supreme Court justice before the election. How does that connect to what people are doing by trying to send cash to the Senate races, particularly the Democrats. Yeah, It's a really good question. I think that for so many people, they know that the Donald Trump is going to pick his choice for the Supreme Court. And if the party the Democratic Party has any hopes of stopping that choice, it lies in the Senate, which has to confirm any nomination. And so that there are a handful of swing senators were up this year. People like Susan Collins here, just talking about Lindsey Graham, who is the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman will oversee any kind of a confirmation hearing, and they would like to put pressure on them and put pressure on them to not move forward at least before the election in Colorado. One of the other most vulnerable Republican senators. This Cory Gardner, you know, put pressure on those senators and then also potentially win back the Senate and S O make it politically tougher for the Republicans to confirm someone if the counter drags past November 3rd in terms of confirmation process. Imagine this right. The Joe Biden wins the presidency. Senate Democrats take control of the majority on November 3rd or in the days after, as we probably understand that the election result may not, in fact, come on November 3rd, but Democrats they control the Senate. And then the Republicans confirm a Supreme Court justice that that's a real political pickle for Republican Party on DSO. Democrats want to put them in that kind of a pickle. And really, you know, cover money in politics for The New York Times. I've never seen anything quite like this. In the four days after whiskey Bennigan's were passed away Act Blue, which is this website that processes most donations there made online tow political candidates on the left. Saw $200 million in campaign contributions. That's about $130 million more than the previous four day period. So this is just an enormous windfall of money. That you mentioned Act Blue. I was goingto ask you exactly what was the catalyst for that? Because generally speaking, the Democratic Party has sort of at least from our perspective has lagged a little bit in terms of galvanizing it's voter base. To really think about the Supreme Court. Has that shifted because of the death of Ah Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This is the hope of Democratic Party strategist that this money is a sign that the Democratic base cares more about Supreme Court vacancies so they have In the past. This has been a Republican issue to motivate Republican voters. Donald Trump. Famously in 2016 put out a list of specific justices he would pick it became president because the Wright was so skeptical of this guy who had been married three times. The former Democrat had been pro choice. You know, now I was saying he's telling the world he was pro life. You know, the Supreme Court is a galvanizing issue for the right and has been for a long time. But look the possibility of of the Supreme Court tilting to a a 63 conservative majority with You know major things up up for grabs, including Robi Wade, I think has the potential to galvanize the left. Now. We sort of touched on this earlier and I know we can't make any predictions here. But what would it take? Chain for Democrats to actually win the Senate. I mean, this is, you know there's money, but you mentioned that this could also be, you know, just a pressure point to put, particularly on senators like Collins and Gardner. Is this actually could this turn into actual votes? The Democrats could absolutely When the Senate in November there are more than enough seats that they can win. There's probably three seats that they're favored to win at this point, and they only need to win four to take the majority. That said it is not clear that galvanizing both parties to a Supreme Court vacancy in the days before an election will be a net benefit for the Democratic Party. Ah, lot of the seats that the Democrats want to win. And need to win to take majority were carried by President Trump in 2016 states like Iowa, Georgia, South Carolina thes. They're places where, if everybody just puts on the Red Jersey voters see the Republican senator and President Trump as part of defending a court seat. It's bad for the Democrats, because in a lot of those places they're running ahead of the Republican senator compared to the president. Ah, they need to be differentiated from President Trump. They want somebody to pick President Trump at the top and pick the Democratic Senate candidate because they like them better down ballot That gets harder in a lot of those states. One of the other ones. I didn't mentioned Montana popular Democratic governor running Could win that seat from Republican. This is a state that Donald Trump won by 20% points. If the Democratic nominee Steve Book is goingto win, he has to do better than the average Democratic has to do better than Joe Biden. And so, making a hyper partisan, polarized electorate with a big Supreme Court fight. Even with all this money may not help Chain Gold marker is a national political reporter at The New York Times, Shane. Thanks for joining me, Thanks for.

"This issue is written by Scott lobbed deal with pen. Cels by John Rubio junior, and the various cheekbones. He brings with him inks by Dan, green and alva- and colors by Steve book, a lotto thanksgiving morning, a morning, where the very air snaps with the promise of change with a bright, crispness commands, a lifting of hearts and adjoining of spirits. This issue is just happy. I mean it's bittersweet here and there, but by and large, it's about the X men as family, it's about their history as the history of family of a chosen family. It's also got really good be plot. Which is always a plus one of the things about quiet on your conversation driven episodes, as they often work best when there's something much more active going on in the background that's done really well here. Yeah. Because I mean, if it was just all Scott and Jean talking about the relationships in their past. I mean I'm not saying that couldn't be a good issue but I think it's a better one because as that's going on. We have all these scenes of the X men doing various stuff, various autumnal fun, silly stuff. And if you're going to have Scott summers, and Jean grey, the first two X, men, finally tied, the knot after teasing that for so long after the relationship having built and grown for so long, doing it within the context of the X men is the way to do it because these are two people, I mean, obviously to have families from space pirates to elaine's and John's but these are people, I think more than almost anybody else from the X. Men is their world is their family? Agreed. They've yeah. They both have their own families. But, you know, Scott hasn't basically grew up without his and gene, largely grew up addict Xavier's mansion. I mean, I think almost almost more in ice in relative isolation than, than the other x men. Yeah. And so as this issue opens on a Thanksgiving Day, I believe right today, an Ottoman in thanksgiving factors. And I think this is the actual day of it Scott and Jean, and their chic bones, walk through this beautiful, like red and Brown foliage crisp day in these comfy looking coats reminiscing, about one of their first moments of connection and the scene. They reminisce about is totally right. Con- inserted between X number one and X men number two is the secret origin of how gene learned that Scott's name was not in fact, slim on his birth certificate, but wouldn't that have to be I thought he didn't get in Scott till three I thought it was number two, but I could be wrong almost. Certain. It's three but I could also be wrong. Well anyway, the internet tells me that takes place between number one and two and as we know the internet is never wrong about anything. But this is something else, I hate to break this to you. Yeah. Well, but this is something that I think's got lobbed. They'll does exceptionally well we've seen this before with some Harry's. Hideaway stuff smolt stories of the X men as students and his kids, he dances, between the raindrops pretty deftly in terms of adding little bits, of backstory, that make the silver age feel a lot more lived in that makes the silver age feel as sort of densely lovingly crafted as the bronze age would become. Yeah. Yeah. Great. So this glorious seen involves Scott or sorry, slim, working on one of those, you know, danger room spiked balls in this off limits area of the danger room and he's surprised by Jean grey being silver age Scott immediately, panics the no-one supposed to be in the danger room while he's fixing it the truth is I'm not here to do anything unauthorized, I just stopped by to talk with you..

I don't even know how many games surely they could have found a better picture. I don't know if this is that you don't photograph. Well, is that it look up? Amazing because the Panini stickers. Sick of me. I'm late not. Toting hanging. The most have been a picture, would it didn't Lulu. Hang on hang on. I have an explanation here now for those who might not know this, and really should because you would have read Steve's book Stevie, of course played on a great Liverpool side, with, with legends like Kenny Dalglish, Graeme, Sooners Alan Hansen. Now, I'm told by some other members of that side that because Stevie was was Scottish like them still is perhaps a little bit younger. Sometimes you were the butt of jokes. Correct me if I'm wrong here. Is it possible that Alan Hansen was so powerful that he got through to the people that Panizzi every single photographer in England? Only use rubbish photos of nickel. Well, I will say that Michelle Hansson the squire could talk anybody in the NFL. Outweigh. Recently taught me things that shouldn't have done like taking Tig about food. Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised. All right. We have seen the picture. Frightening a monument like this could have been captured better. At least we picked the gob that's. Very true. Let's move on here. Bill wants to know if Manchester City's reserves were their own team, where would they finish in the Premier League table? So we probably need we probably need an eleven on this. Have we cooked one up there somewhere in the back? I think we do. So here's here's a reserve. Starting eleven for city, how do we think that end up in the Premier League Stevie? What do you think? Well, they'd lose they lose plenty of goals stones in Otamendi of not here. It's actually great defensively. Four. No, no, no, no. I'm pretty good team news. Eleven hundred a team. I think any number of those players come to the current current city Levin on. There's another who'll of the drop off. You can make that argument, but as an eleven I don't think that's a good team. Toxics. No. Ten Ted if they get a couple of references awhile. Jules. What do you think of that, where would the city reserves and up in a hypothetical print? Thing that's probably fair and probably do a vote. I think let's not forget that I assume pet will be the managers where can you manage both the first team in the reserve team? And I think even with reserved him I could do pretty good job. This has been point the point next question. Glenn wants to know Destino get nervous watching games. Now as a fan did he has a player as a fan? We've all fun. Shavings. Everybody else. I'd say you're more watching. How'd you live us as not to buy with us? Yeah. Enraged angry. You do. Quickly go from zero one hundred just not gonna go bike just as quickly. Full of him playing. She sees food watching Liverpool wanna play. There was absolutely no never. No, no. Never. Soon as Wessel blows. Gone as a coach. As a coach. Oh, won't you can you get me? Get in on the next one Kartik wants to know Jules who are you supporting the upcoming ICC World Cup. Cricket. Cricket. "Professor Stephen F cowardice here near university Princeton University and began by recounting. The Steve book that I'm reading to talk to the author laws about Georgia. A murderer in charge of the took place in nineteen Ninety-three. However, it speaks to the history of Georgia since the end of the Soviet Union. The transformation of a stooge state was part of the Soviet empire into a broken state of failed stage in the nineteen nineties and in the early part of the twenty first century today. I I believe that what you could think of what's left of Georgia is that it's just poverty. It's hanging on. And the people are extremely discouraged. I visited there in two thousand seventeen and the contrast between Tbilisi the capital of Georgia, and then just moving tobacco. The capital of Azerbaijan is profound one has prosperity and energy to pump to western Europe. The other one gets revenue from the pipeline passing through Georgia, but has no prospect of joining the world economy, especially since the conflict in two thousand and eight but that in itself was a was a was a continuation of the conflict that started right away in the nineteen nineties under the mafia state that then became governed by Shevardnadze, and the gangsters there is there was an agreement that the warlords would all have separate militaries and Shevardnadze would be their face to the world to the to the Russian federation. Well, all these many years later, the reason I bring up Georgia to Steve is because I've I have the sense that it's a small broken version of Ukraine that it's a small broken version of all of the former Soviet empire. Why because the United States, I know this is true in Georgia. I don't know about Ukraine, but I guess the United States different administrations. Republicans and Democrats believed that we. You could make the former Russian empire into our clients. So that we could surround Russia was some kind of blanket a buffer against against Russia ever becoming a threat to us. The only thing I can reason out is that nobody was looking ahead. They were all looking for opportunities and one of the organizations that was taking in raw in Georgia. I know this to be true from my couple hours book was the CIA. They were they were exploiting the weaknesses of Georgia. And Steve these many years later, the Georgians haven't forgotten the Russians haven't forgotten and I can only gas that decades. From now, Ukrainians won't forget the exploitation of a fragmented country. Well, let's draw. What is an absolutely straight line from Georgia of the nine hundred ninety s that you've been talking about to the crisis that breaks out in Ukraine in two thousand and thirteen. When you and I began our weekly discussions the Georgian war of two thousand and eight a proxy war, essentially between the United States and Russia Russia Saakashvili than the president of Georgia was an American proxy, and he attacked a Russian conclave in your remember this. This is two thousand and eight in Georgia and Georgia came across Russia came across the border to protect its people. But what had happened just before that what had happened was the Bush administration have pledged NATO membership to home, the Georgia and Ukraine. In other words, the two countries now independent countries after the end of the Soviet Union were linked. They're fake slinked. They didn't need to be. But they were laying by the desire of Washington and Brussels to bring both into NATO that led to the. Situation that you've observed in Georgia the war in Georgia. Actual war was short war. But to the crisis in Ukraine, which is now an ongoing proxy and civil war and probably the major crisis in the world today. So you're right. There's a link, but the link is one that's I think calls less by the disintegration of the of the Soviet Union, but by unwise, western policy that was determined to bring these former parts of the Soviet Union as they had the small Baltic countries into NATO. Now, I just read you statements that sound like they could have been written anytime during the preceding Cold War gets worse. Because some of the statements that I found in our media lately seem to be advocating actual war. I give you just two quick examples. You know what? The Atlantic Council is. It's a very Cold War institution, and is essentially a political organization of NATO and one of its leading figures there MandA name of John curbs once he's demanding now in the medium more American in NATO weapons sent to the Ukrainian government to quote, listen carefully this John to confront Russia whether in the zone or the Black Sea so imagine he's advocating that we confront Russia in the Zoff and black seas these are Russia's lakes so to speak. This is what links Russia to Crimea to the caucus. I mean, this is traditionally rush a Russian security. So if this were to happen these weapons being sent to naval weapons sent there. And it's echoed by Jackson deal. Who's the deputy? I believe. The deputy opinion page editor of the Washington Post. He wants NATO in US ships in the Black Sea at every Ukrainian port Anne once team's from NATO in eastern Ukraine where there's a proxy civil war on. So what we're getting here. And this goes back to the tragedy of the way, the Soviet Union broke up and the fate of its components, not only Georgia and the Baltic states. But today of Ukraine, this brings us to the very cusp of war. When I published my book a couple of months ago war with Russia. It has question Mark at the end, which meant I was worried. So I could have called that book. Steve worried volume two would be very worried, and I wanna end this this part of our conversation with something you may not know about, but we ought to know about the opinions, I just quoted or what might be called off. Ed opinions, you know, people influential people with opinions get to write articles for newspapers, I'm not one of them people who think like me or basically shut out of the New York Times and the Washington Post, they're not interested in our alternative thanking. But these are not just the opinions of opinion-makers. They are the opinions apology makers. I don't know whether you know it or not, but as we talk there is being debated in the Senate Ainu any Russian piece of. Legislation is called you've given it a very sexy. Name these defending American security from Kremlin aggression act of two thousand and nineteen. You heard about this? You should should look it up. So I got a printout I printed out how they describe it. It's fully bipartisan. So it has Senator Bob Menendez, New Jersey Democrat, and then she grammar Republican Cory Gardner, Republican from Colorado, and Ben Cardin, democrat from Zura, and and Senator Shaheen a democrat from New Hampshire to read this document read, this document is to truly be worried because it is. Lemme lemme lemme quote, what one of the senators who's drafting this legislation says he says Putin's Russia is an outlaw regime. This is a direct quote, an outlaw regime that is hell bent on undermining international law and destroying the US led liberal global order. All right. The first part of it is if Putin's Russia is an outlaw regime there can mean DOE diplomacy with an outlaw regime. That's what outlaw me no diplomacy. If there's no diplomacy only wars left. Then the assertion that Putin's purpose is to destroy the United States and the US led liberal global order which most objective observers who studied these things. Thank there never was such a liberal global order. It was US dominated. But it began to fall apart on its own a long time ago breakfast, being just another example, but bear in mind, John, this is what very influential group of senators are saying have put pen to paper, and no doubt will pass eilly it as a virtual declaration of war on Russia's Steve. I want to press you on this because I'm looking at the news reports. Now, the Kremlin officials have been blunt about this. They call this racketeering, reckless insane is is is Washington listening because if that dialogue had going on the first Cold War, there would have been phone springs. There would have been back channel negotiations. There would have been peace delegations, in some way to defuse the crisis. Is there anything like that happening now better? Best. We know when of course, backchannel communications are supposed to be secret. So we're not supposed to know about them. But the back channels that exist exists solely in Syria because of the risk of accidental military encounters between Russian and American forces operating in Syria. That's why I think and I argue this on your broadcast. The Trump's decision to bring home the two thousand Americans. There was wise because they were sitting targets for accidental or intentional conflict with Russia and Trump has been sorely attacked for that it's been called betrayal or defeatism. But I believe it to be wise, but there are still too many places where the United States and Russia could get into a shooting war, Ukraine sharia and elsewhere. So the answer. The question is is that there's great alarm in Moscow. Then report something that took me back, but you've got to kind of understand the Russian language. The Russians have a national Security Council. It's not exactly like ours. But it plays a similar role that each headed by Putin the president, but he didn't clues all the major military defense officials top officials. So the minister of defense would be there the head of the military industrial complex the head of the intelligence agencies. It is the supreme foreign policy strategic. Discussion. I don't know whether it makes decisions or Putin makes decisions elsewhere. But certainly these are the people who react lavender reaction or must react to what you asked about. How do they see what were doing? So the other day there appeared in the Russian press. I came upon it by accident because a friend of mine in Russia. Russia was worried about it. And you send it to me. And I have it only in Russian, but it's a press account of what the deputy director. They caught him secretary. The deputy secretary of this Russian national Security Council report, it is name is Mikhail Popoff. It means nothing to me. But he's obviously a very high level official and the number two person on this national Security Council, and here's what he told the Russian news agency Tauch everybody knows. Tossed DAS. Says you have to think about the Russian use of words, but that military dangers the Russian word is a possibility dangerous. Coming from the United States have now become military, grossly. Rosie is the Russian word for threat. So in English what he is saying is that Moscow by Moscow. I mean the highest. Institution of national security headed by poop once perceived our behavior as danger danger is a kind of soft word and Russian. You know, it's like saying it's dangerous to walk against a red light threat grossing is very strong Russian word. It sounds it. Spells it derives from words that have a real Stewart. So what's what what began ask sort of diffuse shadowy dangers by American behavior are now perceived as direct threats, and I attribute that to me. Russia's preparing for war. Professor Stephen f Cohen air can adversity Princeton University Russian history. Merida's when we come back. What is to.

"Evolution Cerise, however, wears a skullcap over the center of her pokey Audi hair, and that makes me think that she's not genetically. She's not the species called the she are. I agree. I think she's just part of their empire. Yes. So for me that makes a ton of sense. And also makes of her sense her hair is styled the way it is an Indian deliberate Ammash to our avocation of share hairstyles because that's something you steal with. When one groups got a lot of cultural power in a specifically you've got an empire and its colonies. Yeah. I I mean, I realize we may be looking into this way more than is warranted. But. I think we've come up with is miles. That is literally our mission statement spending far too long talking about Serena's hair and the cultural significance there of the Jamie house. Explain the X men story, Jan miles explained the X men. We care about the weird stuff. And that leads us to x caliber sixty nine nice blight and fog is has a story by Scott lobbed a script by Evan Skolnick? Hey, he did that DND's story. Yes. Evan skolnick. If you're out there, if you're listening we wanna play D with you pencils and colors by Steve book, a lotta once more and inks by Don Hudson. And I want to talk about the covers to this issue because we see a very sad Cerise holding the corpse of this small dolphin child. And something about that about the way the dolphin child was drawn almost as like a simplified Gumby esque character just made the kid looked so much more innocent than they otherwise might have and made Serena's sorrow so much more palpable. And I don't know like I don't know that this is a cover that would get me to buy a comic. But God damn I didn't just look at it for a long long time on multiple occasions when I was a kid, I think it's also important that the child she's cradling his only dolphin like and not an actual dolphin because dolphins are Dicks. Dolphins are Dicks. So anyway, we learn what the deal is with Serena's crimes, or at least a part of that at the beginning of this issue. She was stationed on the ship the grandeur and her understanding was that the grandeur was on conversion mission. It was there to recruit folks in the outer regions to the sheer empire through basically cultural diplomacy on enlightenment. And you know, maybe some mid grade threats. Not so much the case at least according to one of her superior officers. I love it. Yes. Rashes we're converting these savages to the ways of this. She are dyke guarantee you that's whoever survives. We'll be only too happy to Joe. And then he disintegrates the dead baby. Which seems kind of excessive given that it's already dead. He's just so evil. Even looks almost exactly like sigma, the bad guy for mega man x was just made him an even more delightfully villainous villain to me. So I really she's like a horrible genocidal monster. But I kind of like the cut of his jib aside from all the, you know, genocide so Cerise vows that she is going to stop her worship from murdering any more innocence. And we don't yet find out how she does because that flashback is interrupted by Serena's exile along with another prisoner to d- prison rock. Doc crag, and we see a lot of the prison guards of this whole part of the she our empire and to actually look a hell of a lot like the rob lifebelts character bad rock from young blood. And that actually made me liked him even less when I was a kid. So I guess they were villains because they looked like a comic by creator whose work I was angry at when I was young. Anyway, meanwhile, back on the star jammer that being the ship of the star jammers corsair is demanding to know just what the hell is going on with this mission..

"We should I feel like we should we should talk to Logan about somehow tying tying this into whatever we do for the next summer special. I love this plan. Anyway, meanwhile, in our earth, the real world Allen Davis had as we said just ended his superlative run writing and drawing this book he had ended by tying up a lot of dangling plot threads and doing a great job of just sort of going back through pretty much all of clermont's history on the run at pulling from some other places to to give us this amazing amazing finale. So let's see what happens next because it's a superhero comic, something always. Happens next specifically Excalibur number sixty eight facades part one of a dead space. I guess this is plotted by Scott lobbed L scripted by dance slot penciled and colored by Steve Collado and inked by Harry Candelaria. And the story opens with captions informing us that between issues captain Britain got dragged off by temporal wave on the way back from earth, eight eleven whoops. What the hell? This is almost as bad as cyclops dying off screen in X men three which was easily in the top fifteen terrible things in X men three. I would argue that this is actually worse because there we at least had some surrounding context in here. It's just like oh. And by the way, this happened. I was so mad at this issue when I bought it when I was a kid because I loved captain Britain. I had the trade paperback of like the second half of his big run the one after Allen Davis that was by Jamie Delano. He'd become one of my favorite. Characters or at least my favorite sort of second tier characters and all of a sudden he was gone with barely any explanation. Also gone from the team is Meghan who is sufficiently upset by captain Britain's disappearance that she has taken leave in order to pursue a new full-time career of being sad in a waterfall. It's actually pretty cool. She sort of merged with the water of the waterfall, and it's just sort of staring off sadly into space, and it works pretty well. I'm not a huge fan of Steve book Lotto's art in this issue. But certain little bits work. And I think this is one of them, and I will say there is a grand plan for captain Britain disappearing in for Meghan getting semi catatonic like is not utterly without context. But still reading this month to month that sucked he's gonna come back with a mullet and a terrible codename, but pretty awesome costume that. I used to drawn notebooks and school all the time. I love that like righteous mullets are what you get. When you fall into the space time continuum for a while that. That sounds about. Right. Did the eighties? Come out of the space time continuum. I mean, I guess technically I was gonna say by definition. Yes. But anyway, one of our other lineup changes is that Micromax has suddenly joined the team, you know, the size changing guy who is working with secret agent issue organization f I six awhile back who there wasn't really that much interesting about. Yeah. He was kind of a jerk and boring and now he's on Excalibur and might be running it, or at least think that he is. Although nobody else really seems to agree Micromax does have one ally on the team. At least Keilan is staunchly in favor of Micromax is enthusiasm for fight training. And Micromax for his part is likewise unimpressed with x caliber all the files at six labeled. This team is the peculiar mutant team, you know, exploding bathrooms dinosaur d'appel ganders cross time Capers all. I've seen during my observation period is a bunch of angst ridden super types, all of whom are morbidly over obsessed with death speaking of which one of those super types. Kitty Pryde is currently falling apart because Ileana Rasputin her best friend is dying in America. This takes place, by the way, a bit before uncanny x men three three which we covered in episode two thirty. And this is something that's happened. A lot to kitty. I mean, not as much as it's happened to colossus, but still the people she cares about sort of dying off one by one. And that's going to continue to be a theme throughout a lot of her life. What she's got now that you won't have later, though, is Ferron kitty Pryde. I command you to stop crying. Don't you knock and be you can't just command a person to stop crying?.
