"Maybe to drive and a half probably ten drives a piece. I think what we had this game which is usually about average. You get to take chances in the nfl per game Yeah we ended up with a hundred nineteen rush yards. I love it too. Negative one for you know again. It's everyone last week was screaming. About how terrible around galas and here we go. We got one hundred nineteen yard said. Y'all shut up now. Well that's how it always works is a river last year. It was look. They complain about something that would blow up next week. It'd be awesome. They complain about have. What are we complain about this week. Oh good lord. They did so good. We have veteran. We had six pass. Defenses one interception a forced fumble fumble recovery four six six tackle for i mean. What do you want them. Do they played phenomenal given the circumstances. Am we lose. Carlton davis in the game. We had a deceiver appear to your. He was out there either. He had two tackles up two tackles so i just you know. It's i thought. Everyone stepped up really well. I was talking to richard. Sherman of i gotta look at the game film on him and it was looked. It looked like he was getting beep but he. You can't tell until you look at the game and wouldn't you be picking on him when you don't that he doesn't know anything about the system. Yeah and they were. It looked like he was in man coverage most of the time him. And you know so the best way to beat me. Coverages quick slants. You know th they were doing. That was quick inside moves. He was leading tackler on defense though. I mean he did his part. He got that fumble recovery and i. I'm not complaining about his performance. I thought he did a good job. Especially given the circumstance of them. yeah and especially. It got worse after davis. I mean their circumstances got worse. After davis got hurt. That was a big blow. Yeah their defense. Had one sack three tackles for loss. Three quarterback hits to pass defenses dip it. Oh my gosh can we. Talk about steve bella attack. You.

"Not only do you get topnotch analysis of all the boss of pro sports. You're patriots junkie. Obviously you are a membership. Bsa gives you access to a ton of video analysis. But dr dozen the coaches film and direct access to him and weekly chats. Here is the question today. Greg and there's a little bit of a preamble hair before i've confused. How steve ballot check in mayo or losers. From this spending spree you just gave them a boatload of talent right now. They must be like kids in a candy store putting this defensive talent to use their only losers if they suck at putting it together. Are you suggesting greg. That past defensive coordinators have been able to cobble together. Great defenses with less talent than they've had the last couple of years a little bit and what he's referring to is i did Part of my columnists can was. I did winners and losers from the patriots spending spree and i put steep l. Check and gerard mayo as the losers because or one of the losers because they're completely on the spot now like they basically got. They basically got the skate. So twenty after two thousand eighteen season. They win the super bowl. Brian floors leafs. It's bell check in mayo. Basically combining to be defensive coordinator and in two thousand nineteen for about what twelve games of the season. They were black the greatest defense in patriots history and then they completely crap the bed down the stretch including they got run off their own field in the finale against ryan patrick in the five and eleven dolphins that cost the patriots. A first round bye in the playoffs. So that happened. Nobody really said anything was the first year what have you. The offense wasn't good all that stuff then last year the the defense was slipped even more and we understand like the front seven due to opt-outs injuries youth. What have you didn't work out so there wasn't a whole lot of pressure. Put more pressure on the secondary. We get it. But you know the defensive coordinators didn't exactly make chicken salad out of chicken bleep. You know last year right so now my point is now. They had all these guys. I mean. they completely reconstructed the front seven. I mean they have a whole new defensive line with lawrence guy they have kyle fan noise back. They have matthew jude on. They have you know they should be able to move their safeties wherever they want they have kyle duggar and year two. They have adrian phillips in year. Two they have a right now. They have gilmore still on the roster. There's no excuse why this deep end should not be great this year. And so that's my point. My point is they those coaches to in my mind have not proven anything. I think they're on the spot. I don't i don't think they're going to. I don't think this defense is gonna be as good as people think it is. And i think that the coaches are going to get a lot of pressure. So you have it mayo. Steve bella check in the crosshairs. Were waiting jimmy g. Let's see if it happens or not. This is the story that will never die. he's greg. I'm nick cattles. It's the greg bernard patriots. Podcast subscribe rate and review. "All right so this was the example suggested by andrew. Theo because like i say he's really got a bone to pick with ozzie and he will pick it if you give them a chance and he does a check out the facebook page. But yeah the idea here. Is that Ozzy big personality. You can't outshine ozzy you know. He's he's got this distinct. You know vocal quality he. He is ozzy. he's front man. He's a whole package himself And the ban does famously amazing but But you know instantly you get this nobody coming into this band this little skinny guy from la randy rhoads and all of a sudden. You've got a guitar hero that there's two stars in the ban really at this point Randy everybody is love. And what randy's doing There listening to his solos there listening to his His mel stuff is heavy. Stuff his tone. His tone is amazing. this over driven thing a how they how they kind of leave bob daisley and leaker slake kind of In in this interesting mid range background field but the production is really cool to. That's kind of the cool thing that helps helps randy become a star too but he definitely definitely does be become a star in this band. So it's a great example of being ozzie. Being kind of outshined by this guitar player. And then obviously there's there's always you know there's always This thing with eagles in the bandits. A touchy thing with ozzy. Because he's not. He's not exactly writing the lyrics and he's not right in the music. And what is ozzy doing blah blah blah and. There's all these lineups changing. So sharon always has this tough job to To keep a the name on the ten is ozzy. Osbourne is the most important person here so you know there are problems when these other guys become stars. I suppose somewhat Some other examples in this category this the guitarist category right. We've got suggested by her. Robbie blunt in the robber plant banned again. Robby robby becomes somewhat of a star across those first two albums. He's he's rubber plants new right hand man jimmy page right doing these amazing beautiful beautiful stick things a real mystery man. He comes in with nada. History you know. Just just some sort of a obscure bands that had albums out any to obscurity. he just like vanishes off the face of the earth once he's out of the band. You've got steve. Bella suggested john sykes in whitesnake perfectly good example again. John sykes comes in and transforms that ban. Especially when you get to still of the night one of the greatest gifts of all time right so so you've got this and you've gotta egos again here. David coverdale's got an ego. John gosden ego. They start fighting immediately. And and it's it's drama to the end in this band. But john sykes really becomes a second. You know he's a. He's a good luck and blunt blonde haired guy with a square chin right. You know he comes the guitar hero in the band and all of a sudden You know david. Coverdale has has a second star to contend with Within this band and then john sykes came into thin lizzy. It's kind of the same thing. He transformed that bandy changed it completely into this into this gritty grind. E you know with with chris. Tangerines gritty production on thunder and lightning. He he really becomes he he he outshined certainly scott gorham. Who's you know him fill. You know they've got this heroin drama going on and stuff but but he you know scott gorham has been the guy in the band for all those years You know the the main stay of the of all the twin guitar lineups. You know whether it was with rob or gary or whatever Snowy white as well but but literally you get to thunder and lightning and the guitar star in the band. Is john sykes couple other examples. I thought jeff coleman in mogg way. jeff kalman becomes I think outshines. What phil is doing. And what pitas doing in a band called mogg way. He that becomes a showcase for an amazing amazing solos and riffs writer. And jeff coleman and data to stay on point with that. When michael schenker came into ufo. Same thing kind of happen all of a sudden. This band has a guitar hero. He's this cy young german guy. Good looking dude. Bit of an enigma and all of a sudden You know who is the star of this band now It is pretty much equally. Michael schenker and phil mogg for quite a while and completely changed the sound of the band from from the mic bolton years and And so they have this big successful period their classic period and people just kind of swear by it. I mean i'm a big paul chapman fan too but Essentially you know. The the golden years of ufo had two stars in the band. And that was michael schenker and and film. So there you go. "Sports are Jason again. Clemmensen veto on a Friday happy to hear from you 83605 90 is the phone number before we get to the pics. Matt Patricia. It's not gonna have to join the bread lines. Guys. It's going back to the New England Patriots. The former defensive coordinator who was an impressive 13 29 and one nice tie, not betray 13 29 and one is head coach of the Detroit Lions will return to the Patriots staff. To be determined what his role will be there since he left in 2017. He was the defensive coordinator. But Bill Bella check has not given that title to another coach. Do you know who was calling plays last year defensive calls for the Patriots Gerald Stadium. I would probably rather him. Oh, I know it was. It was his son. It's Steve Bell attacks. Outside linebackers coach was calling the defense. Is he the one with the terrible haircut? Yes. Looks like I got his hair cut in a trailer park in general or something. Yeah, he looks he looks like sorry, Gerald. Trying to point it looks like He's got a bad man. What's up with that? How did I don't know, do the players. I mean, they have to. I guess the respect him or else this or else No, just you got it right there. Yeah, he's just the coach's son. It looks like a little pip squeak to me. He's got this terrible haircut and he's the one making so he's not yoked enough for you. You have to know what is the perfect physical form for a coach for you. Good point. That's a good point. Dan Campbell Way too, Jack. Steve Bella. Check. Maybe just throw me throw some push ups on the heap. Every once in a while. I don't know. Good. Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell will take Detroit to the playoffs. Maybe Mabel, how full limits here. Here's my question. Matt. Patricia is Are we going back? The backwards cap because, you know, he was always the hat backwards Guy. Big beard had backwards as those of my people. Pencil pencil in the hat. Yeah, Those are my people, and then he gets a head coaching job ago goes hat hat front words. You abandoned your bandage? Er, that's how it was The key to your mojo there, Matt. Patricia, get that hat backwards, man. Anybody? Anybody? Okay? Let's just do the pics. Let's start the thing right.

"Over Uh, she's I don't I don't think anybody maybe Adam gaze. The Jets were 10 Point dog on the road going toe the Chargers and they scored first. Flacco makes a terrible read to throw a pick six deep in his own end zone. They end up closing it to a single digit loss. I don't know if Adam Gates is worth the map, Patricia Just remember Adam Gaze has lost more games by double digits. Then he's won games so that I mean, that's a bad head coach. But as as a head coach in totality, yes, and to be honest, Hmm. I guess if you're going to make a case for Gates or Patricia, and this is really it's almost feels like we're talking about the NFC East. When the court Mr Head coaches, at least there's a track record of Adam Gates being a good offensive coordinator. Honestly, I know he was Super Bowl winning defensive corner everything. But do we even know if Matt Patricia was his defense right? It still felt like Steve. Steve Bella check is sitting there with the mullet on the sideline. You Bella Chicken little defense, according to writer, defensive specialist or whatever he is, he's supposedly the guy calling the defense like that. Patricia was whatever job you want to give him. Steve. Bella check has that job now, What is Joe Dirt haircut? And basically the patch stink, But I don't know. It's Steve Belichick has made the Pats defense any worse than that. Patricia would have made it so I don't even know today. It 2023 years into Patricia being head coach if he was even a really good defensive coordinator, because it's Bill Belichick's defense. And this defense, which he has had the chance to build. Is terrible. Okay, I'm going to give you an either or let's see where map a Tricia stacks up amongst the worst in the NFL. Would you take Matt Patricia? Mike McCarthy. I'm taking McCarthy. Same Would you take Matt Patricia? Or Zach Taylor and Cincinnati. I got to take Zach Taylor is at least I still some growth from Borough here this year, Same Would you take map Patricia or Matt Nagy? You know what? Maggie got to a post season, so I gotta go, Nagy. That, But you see, there's similar because their specialty their teams are awful that yeah. Did you take a map? Patricia or Romeo Crennel? O Cheese could get out of the sport. I think I'm taking Romeo Cornell. I mean, he did just beat the Patriots yesterday. Yeah, I think I'm taking Romeo Cornell. Now it's not necessarily fair. He's an interim, but Would you take Matt Patricia or Raheem Morris in Atlanta? Boy you love pulling up the interim coaches? Look, Atlanta's played well for. I've seen more life the last five weeks out of the Falcons before yesterday, where he Morris and I've seen three years of map, Patricia so I would take her anymore. That's right. Did you take Matt Patricia or Doug Marone? Doug will get you through an agency title game, right? I gotta go talk in her own. You take a map Patricia or Vic Fangio Hole? Victor Shih. The thing about Vic Fangio's Houston actually stink. He's just a nothing right. Like Vic Fangio's The biggest Nothing. Placeholder head coach like anyone yesterday. I mean, they beat. They beat a playoff caliber Dolphins team. Fangio is basically gonna end up being a Jeff Fisher without the mustache is kind of the deal. So I guess I'll go Fangio because you'll hover around 500. So I'm a real anti Fangio guy. I think I might take Patricia over financial, but I don't know. I really don't know. Dangerous. Just that nothing produces a disaster on the fingers of disaster is just a nothing That's fair. Would you take Patricia or Anthony Lynn? Uh, minute turbulence stinks, but it stinks. I guess I'm still gonna take Anthony Lindo, I I don't even know what I'm facing that often because he stinks. She's done nothing here with the Chargers. Well, he went 12 and for that one year, all right, his first year. All right? Yeah, I guess I'll go into me when I would do it again, so it really comes down to Patricia. Adam case. Maybe Matt Nagy as the worst three coaches of the NFL. Yeah. And at least one is doing the job of getting his team. His number one pick, and the other is least isn't some sort of playoff on what we got mad, Patricia, No man's land here. They're not gonna be picking top five. Imagine me that being a head coach that you nowhere near the playoffs and you may be at the sixth or fifth pick. I mean, it's awful. He's got them in. No man's land is the worst head coaching job. So we're going to credit out of gays for at least positioning the Jets for the number one pick Well, because in all honesty if the Jets end up with Trevor Laurence, we will look back and say Adam Gates was the worst head coach and Jets history. But he was the best thing that happened of the Jets. If they end up with a long, successful run with Trevor Laurence, you will look back fondly. You say Thank you, Adam Gates. You're never going to say Thank you, Matt Patricia about anything? Andrew Bogus. Is there any any coaches I mentioned there that you would take Matt Patricia over? I mean, possibly the only one is the very first one. You guys mentioned in an Adam gays, but that feels like the worst possible decision in the history of sports decisions picking one of them. Could be the head coach of yours, so Adam Gates has not had to starting quarterback for most of the season. I don't make excuses for Adam, but but I mean, seriously, they're playing with the corpse of Joe Flacco for the last two months for wasn't doing anything with with Donald When he was out there, he's supposed to be developing Donovan. He hasn't done that. I would say this if you were had a head coaching vacancy and the only two viable candidates right now we're Adam Geyser map, Patricia, you vote him? No, you go coach by committee between all the coordinators and Reid go back into the pot next year. You don't have a head coach entering the year. You punt on hiring ahead. You parked on hiring a head coach and the offensive coordinator. Defensive quarter specialty recording will coach that team until you're ready to hire a head coach. That Patricia's so bad I can't wait till he gets fired, too, because he's so arrogant and where does he get hired? Where will he get higher when he gets fired to be a defensive coordinator? Those Belichick guys always keep popping up, though. I mean, I'm guessing he'll be a linebackers coach for like, you know, the Bangles or something like that. Oh, notice when you go back to New England. Don't think Bela chick throws him a bone and get him a job again. Maybe. Maybe, but he's not gonna upstage his son. Now, Steve, with the mullets taken over those defensive duties. So is Patricia. Maybe Steve will go to the Lions. I just want to choke judges Not friendly with Matt. Patricia. We can't have that anyway. Yeah, yeah. We already got Garrett. We got Freddie kitchens. I can't have Patricia now on that giant Matt Patricia Giants linebackers coach 2021. I see it. Now I see it Nice and Jim Tom Sula doing long snapping coaching duties. Oh, I'm already gonna be a limit to the pendulum. It's a graveyard of coaches is the giant staff. Did you hear Slash re lock in four yesterday. The Colombo fight is just the tip of the iceberg that there's a lot of issues among that staff right now. Apparently you didn't hear slash read my topic list because it was in that email last night, bookish? No, I don't really earned this last week to without something about to win and I give up. I wonder how the Giants could be considered well coached. If Joe Judge and his staff hate one another along his assistant coaches, people it works. Maybe they are as good as Sean thinks they are, dear, where they're being held back by judges. Mystic coaching staff. That's right. Right. Baby has her headlines. What we doing here this morning? "You're always somewhere else author David Halberstam. With US and again the name of his book is called the education of a coach, and let's talk about the education of this coach. Bill Belichick and where it started taking me back to his childhood, and that helped formulate who he is today. What his father Steve came out of the. Steel Mill coal-mining areas western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio very tough time. Croatian immigrants grandfather came here didn't even speak couldn't read or write in. Croatian because he'd come from such a poor village, you know it was unemployed for much of the Depression Steve. Ballot check born. I think around nineteen nineteen. Had No chance of going to college and look I didn't even take college track although he was very very smart. And then he turned out to be a great high school running back. I mean with great is smart as could be. An a coach picked up on him got him A. Scholarship to Western Reserve in Cleveland and out of that. He comes out of that Great Paul Brown Group of Coaches, Bill lost by the way that I mean not an easy man. Paul Brown but probably the foremost original mind in football his day. St Ballot check in nineteen. fifty-six ends up at the Naval Academy where he loves IT SHREWD ENOUGH TO. Try to head coach, but to be a lifer assistant coach gets tenure as a physical instructor. Physical Education, instructor, at the Naval Academy. Teaches thousands and thousands of young men, coaches them many become coaches, but his best pupil is his son Bill. Five years old when he's five years old. They're going down to a game against William and Mary this little voice system back. The car is going to be married. by nine and Steve Bella, check was a brilliant scout that was what distinguished him. He was probably. Considered the best college out the scout of his generation, and he was very good at breaking down film studying, running at Twenty Years Twenty Times back and forth back, and by the time his son was nine years old. Bill is working with him. And you know going in and and Steve we'll be watching comes as a billy. I've got the quarterback on this. When you take the tight end, the watches, the tight end and Steve says what did he do? Abilities that what he did a banana in down and out or stayed back to block, or he faked blocking I mean he was already doing that and by and he would you know he on the day of the game when he was ten eleven twelve, the the line coach to the Game Plan Ernie George. which send him a folder and then John Envelope with the game. Game plan is if he were an assistant coach, so he grew up in that world, loving it loving loving, his father, respecting what he did, and wanting to be a coach, and start goes off to end over for one year after Annapolis high goes to Wesleyan. College University in in Middletown, Connecticut not a major football power, and then takes a job for twenty five dollars. A. Week, as sort of Gopher for the Baltimore Colts under Ted Marchibroda and they say well listen. We need you know you're not paying him anything he but he's getting free room and board and he gets to use Marcia brose cars staying in a Howard New Howard Johnson near the Baltimore Stadium got about thirty seconds Dave Okay and so he says the. You. Know the kids. What about film he says I can do that. They start. He starts breaking down film to them and I think Oh, my God. He's the best person we've ever had you ever done this. Well I've done it a little bit. And that's when he be starts becoming an assistant coach at the age of twenty three, and it just goes from there. David Halberstam is with US and again. The name of this wonderful book is called. The education of a coach in the book is a portrait of New England patriots coach. Bill Belichick is intimate world and also the unique abilities that make him. Him So successful and I think one of the things that David said, alluding, and connecting him to Bill Walsh being on the defensive side. What Bill Walsh was on the opposite side is so very very true. We're going to be talking when we come back more about the Cleveland situation. Because it was very interesting, he made adjustments, and then he went on. Of course, it was an assistant coach in new. York before he finally got the opportunity to be the headman with the New England patriots, and we all know what he's done from them. We'll take a break. Continue with more of.

"Any wall wall wall Steve Bella check rach tale Steve thirty two year old son of bill Belichick Stephen that Steve no well then I guess the dynasty is officially done I guess that effectively it is forty eight it's over for McDaniels four K. stereo the patriots have turned over that front office turned over the coaching staff so many times that wouldn't be the reason that the patriots dynasty suddenly would end by Brady leaving certainly would be because I've always felt as though the combination of Belichick and Brady is what has made this what it is that Bella Jack in the old coaching at age can take yours and beat his intake is a beach yours he can take a roster and he's gonna get a winner out of it but winning a Superbowl takes it'll lead quarterback talent these days you have to have at the very least a quarterback that has an elite day on that day unless you have a one of the great defenses of the era and okay the Broncos had dad in Super Bowl fifty and a legion of boom have that a couple of years earlier than that but that those are historically great defenses otherwise you need an elite quarterback and if Tom leave they don't have that and I think even if Tom stays they don't have that and that that means that the Superbowl is done until they can find another it'll lead quarterback bilking extended six just about anybody but now go on the road in the playoffs and win playoff games well that's a different story Chris long won a Superbowl in Philadelphia with the eagles and today the eagles are gonna open up once again as underdogs or at least did looks like money is come in for the Vegas standpoint to make this a pack so they're an even even playing field in terms of the Vegas odds at this point in time but the eagles came into the week as once again an underdog at home does that mean it's exactly where the eagles are comfortable being here was Chris long with me earlier this week kind of a team and a coach that thrives in situations when the chips are down and visible year it it it just happened that way you know nobody plans on their MVP caliber quarterback get hurt one of the single biggest a whole lot of people would be an oversight investing in a really dynamic backup quarterback in teams are getting the idea now you got to a more but you know basically we had big hold the guy who had had historic years in Philly and under chip Kelly and we kind of just fell into that underdog thing for some reason Doug Peter sand and the eagles love when their backs against the wall they do not like prosperity they like what they make it really hard to themselves and coming in to today's game it happened once again the eagles slip their way through a underwhelming season at times Carson Wentz was totally under fire it had a million injuries in only kind of clinch their way into the playoffs week seventeen of course that the week sixteen win over the cowboys but being disrespected being an underdog thinking that the road team's gonna come in and beat them thinking that they have no chance thinking that they're too banged up this exit this is kind of exactly where the eagles arrive and finally for the bleacher report excellent NFL features writer Tyler dina was discussing with me earlier this week the next brown search and now Jimmy has long says he will hire the head coach before the GM can this possibly work are part of the quoting process because lucky in your power to the people beneath them last year in the pretty kitchen tired he trusted John Dorsey trusted those around him and this is somebody who had a lot of problems you know that's kind of what people do their job so I would not be shocked at all if he gets kind of steps back into what he did before remember the great stuff with percent story breaking at all about any of the in the magazine I guess how much he is in Paul worse behind the scenes yeah I I think that the concern probably with a lot of these coaches as how how much is owner maybe doesn't really know what he's doing gonna have a hand over everything it's terrifying it's terrifying because she has long hires and fires coaches every single year hires and fires GM's every single year we're gonna fire John Dorsey again I know that the Freddie kitchen tire was a mass I realize that but is this really where you want to be once again finding both pieces of the equation but I just think that has long continues to prove he is a bad owner he continues to prove that he just doesn't have the right touch that he's impatient that he does know how to choose the right people that he doesn't know how to choose the right people to then choose the right people every year or two it's a new head coach and a new general manager and new regime of doing it all again what they should have done was fire Freddie kitchen to let John Dorsey higher the next guy and I know that kitchen was a mess but I just don't think it behooves you to once again be searching for another general manager let's get your football forecast boys and girls.

"There's not much of a debate the top radius degrade is quarterback of all time. I think the only question left is whether he's the greatest player of all time at any position. Jerry Rice has some real competition from Tom Brady. But Chris SIMS the question moving forward for Brady and more specifically for anyone else who either is in the pipeline now or who will be in the future. What will it take to be better than Tom Brady? Is there any way that someone can actually outdo Tom Brady to become the greatest quarterback of all time? Given the standard he set with six wins, four SuperBowl MVP's three NFL MVP's comeback player of the year, two thousand all decade team. He'll surely be on the one hundred anniversary team but I think those six Super Bowl wins. That's what sets him apart from the likes of Joe, Montana, a John Elway mean for a while it was Montana's the best ever, then once Brady got the number five. We had to accept the fact that Brady's. Better now with six four Super Bowls in five years, they've been to it's incredible. What they've done at this late stage of his career. I don't I don't think anyone's going to have the time or the opportunity to outdo, Tom Brady is going to be tough. I mean it really is. You know, I mean you know, it's going to be a special set of circumstances, just like we see with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. I mean, it's going to first thing that is going to have to happen is going to have to have a special coaching staff and organization that's going to be able to build a team around a quarterback for that long of a period of time for him to succeed. So I think that's rare. I mean as rare as Tom Brady's talents are, and how awesome he is. It's even more rare to have a coach, like Bill Belichick and everything like that. So you gotta have that aspect of it. But I know my what will it take? I mean, you know, I don't envision anybody anytime soon, winning six Super Bowls, or more than that. Okay. And I don't know if Patrick Mahomes, let's just throw somebody out there, right if he won two Super Bowls and won like five. MVP's or six MVP's, something like that. Does he get thrown into it? See, that's where I get into the rings discussion and that bothers me, you know, me Mike at times, because, you know it's a team sport. And Patrick Mahomes, not could be able to play for Bill Belichick and do that. You know, and other great quarterbacks didn't get to do that. So I don't know if anybody's gonna, but it's, it's got it but it's got it lands, right? Because we just talked about drew Brees and he's gonna retire with the best numbers in all of the major categories in the history of the sport. But that's not good enough to make him. Even in the top five. It's the championships. That set the guy apart it's got to be at least six to get yourself, equal to Tom Brady and it may be seven because they may get number seven this year. Well, you know, he's gonna be we're just going to go on that. And that alone, then he's going to be the best quarterback in the history of football for at least the next hundred years, like I really feel confident nobody in football ever, going to be able to do what Bill Belichick. And Tom Brady has done. He's the king that way. That's why I of brought up that Patrick mums you know, thing because I just hey, is awesome as he is. And I love Andy Reid and all those things that it's great. I just they're not going to win six Super Bowls. I mean if they do I don't know what I'll get down, and I'll kiss your feet on the on a show. One time at that. Yeah. No, thank you to me there. But they just trying to sample if you get close and win a more MVP's, you know, Brady ends up with six Super Bowls, and he had a maybe a quarterback who wants four Super Bowls and and six NFL MVP awards, does that make you put them in the class. What does it take? What does it take for you? If you don't get the rings to Mason, Bakili say, oh, it's really close. Right. That, that to me would be what will it take to get that conversation started if you don't have the rings? Well, here's the other side of it too. That gets overlooked. You have to be a great quarterback who lands in the right spot. Yes, with a Bill Belichick, right? When will there be another Bill Bella check? It's not just one be another Tom Brady, you need another Bella check. And another Brady to find each other. Whether it's through pick number one ninety nine or pick number one or somewhere in between Saddam say. That's where you're going to need. Maybe maybe Steve Bella check. Bill son becomes the next Bill. Bell check at some point down the road laying the foundation for a great quarterback to land with Steve Bella check when he's the coach of the patriots in fifteen years, or whenever it would be and off they go in that direction. But it's just not going to be easy. What we're seeing now especially in an age of salary cap and parody and everyone should have a chance in theory, they do every given year, the patriots have cracked every code possible. They inside of the safe, and they aren't coming out, and he soon, and I think once they're out of it. It's going to be even harder to get inside of that safe because it's going to be virtually impossible to match the patriots have done what we've seen people get sick of it gets old. We see what's happened like in basketball and hockey. You have a team that wins it all for the first time ever, and it creates a new sense of excitement, and I think it's good when the NFL can do that. This is a level of greatness that we've never seen before. I don't think we're we're going to see again. And I think you just kinda sit back accept it. And. Wait four to end, and who knows when it will? I'm mike. I'm with you there. That's kind of what I'm at right now. You know there was like a period there I was like, oh, gosh, I'm sick of the patriots. But I feel like the last two years. I'm almost like man. This is amazing. I love it. I'm kinda rooting for them. I almost sit here and go men thirty one teams and then I fell should be embarrassed with how they just let the patriots dominate them year after year after year. That's where I look at some point. I mean it's just it's absolute demolishing by the coaching staff, by Brady and the offense, the defense has not great. But yet never let's team score points and things like that. They're just I don't think we've ever seen anything like this. The only thing in sports in America that I think even compares to be like, the Celtics of the sixties, or maybe some of those Yankee runs with Babe Ruth Joe DiMaggio. But it's that special he is amazing. Yeah. And it's going to be a long, long time. I don't think I'm going to be around. Maybe you won't be around either by the time. This Tom Brady. Ascott.

"This was the first chance to ask anyone any questions about it? Of course, Bill Belichick Alaska to ask any questions about it. Because he's not going to tell you anything. And we still won't know exactly what happened was she on a we don't know. Maybe we will at some point that statement that issue was so loaded though, it makes you wonder what in the hell's going on from Bella chicks perspective. He ain't saying it doesn't matter they've dealt with this before. And now they move on with a skeleton crew of assistance because they've lost plenty of guys this off season to the dolphins and elsewhere, and it impacts the scouting as you prepare for the draft. If you don't have a system coaches who can participate in the effort to identify the best players. Yes. Sure. Certainly, you know, I guess the thing. Thing is New England is so well prepared that I don't think coaching changes affects them as much as other teams. Just because they have such a great system in place. As is. I am interested in what happened here. I was shocked by that news. Greg. Who's a Rampal high school alumni, just like myself and Chris HOGAN, so I know him I have no inside information here other than I just was shocked because one I know Greg Shannon, had great respect for Bill Belichick. I know Bill Belichick also had great respect for Greg Sheehan on the way, he coached. And that was the reason they drafted so many Rutgers players through the years and guys like them the mccourty twins are on the team. Because Bella check always respected the foundation. She laid down with these guys, you know, at the at the college level, but within New England, I think the biggest thing here at least with my observation. And when things like this happen, it just puts more on bills plate to where he's gonna have to get into the nuts and bolts a little bit more and be less of a overall overseer to wear yet. He might have to get into the nitty gritty of the defensive coordinator duties that he's been able to be more of a CEO of over. The last few years, and now he's going to have to get a little more hands on with it. And it also presents an opportunity for him to accelerate the apprenticeship of his son Steve ballot. Check the safeties coach. And if you look at the patriots official website right now, there's only one coach listed for the team's defense, and it Steve bell check. Now. Gerard mayo has announced that he's returning to the team as linebackers coach. But the team hasn't announced that there is only one defensive coach named on the patriots official website. And it is Bill son Steve. And look there's plenty of nepotism in football. And there's a lot of reasons for it either. Steve Bella, check can coach recant, but this really will be an opportunity for Bill to try to accelerate that process and groom Steve into being the next. Great Belichick coach. Yes, I think there is a possibility of that. As certainly I mean, Steve is a he's a ballot. Check. He's a grinder just like his father is. And I am sure. He has a lot of knowledge of a lot of different things because of being around his father. And now, of course, being in the building and doing that. But this is the price you pay when you're a great football team..

"So the memories just this flow through that that whole thing course, Vic Fangio who coach with Jim at Stanford. And and San Francisco he's now the head football coach with the Broncos. He was there and we had a chance to visit Kyle Shanahan and his cO. He's talking about his dad, Mike. Eastern Illinois university graduate guy, we played at western Kentucky. And so we're talking about then. And then I started to think how many head coaches thirty two of them. And I could think of at least six or seven or eight that had fathers that had coached you'll before the head coach is now in the NFL who had fathers that head coach, you know, maybe head coaches, insisted coaches, and and guys that you that you that you had met. So it's crossing over those generations that metro had a tremendous impact on me and the visit. I bet you a lot more of those coaches are the sons or grandsons of coaches, and maybe the average fan would realize because a lot of those times, it would kind of be like internally here, Ben mcdaniels right people, here know, Ben mcdaniels, and it was brother. But until we've talked about his dad being a legendary high school football coach, maybe you don't know a lot about high school football coaching coaches in Ohio. So you may not know that he's part of a coaching family. And so there are probably examples like that or a coach, I think a lot of people may not know maybe in these parts, they might because it was at central Michigan. But maybe a lot of people around the country. Don't know that Matt leflore is dad was a coach at central Michigan. It's different with you. I think because especially when the when the John Jim went against each other in the Super Bowl that got a lot of attention. So obviously a lot of people know that. But there's something he said about the quote, unquote, the family business, and it doesn't always translate to either success or but I mean you grow up in the game. And you love the most of these kids seem to love the game growing up in it. And they go on to play it and why not make that natural transition after playing till my dad was a coach he he loved being a coach. Why wouldn't I love being a coach like my dad did? And I just mentioned Jerry Jason Garrett. His father was with a coach and brothers. I think he had leased one or two brothers. That were also in in the coaching profession at first time. Jon did one of those pivots again. This is my dad and Jason sale. Well, my dad was a coach and then bang. You know, we're we're immediately talking about about the old times, and the different places that that we were. So it was a fantastic just a fantastic experience outside of Andy Reid. Anybody come up directly to you. No. Bill Belichick had just we were walking after the team photo with the coaches John's walking out with with with coach Bela check, and and I had a chance to tell him his father, Steve we were in a function in New York City longtime ago, Dwight Perry was being inducted into the American football coaches hall of fame, and we were there for the event, and it was a big dinner, and you sit down and were assigned to a table and cross the table is Steve Bella check. And of course, Bill wasn't a know where he is today. And not sure exactly where it wasn't those times. But an engaging guy. I mean and engaging guy in those days, they didn't exchange film. You didn't get film. What you had to do is send a scout. And he would take a packet of paper, and he would sit somewhere all by himself, and he had to draw up an offense draw a defense drop the special teams they would run a play. He had to see the whole play. How was blocked the action with backfield the routes? They ran on pass plays. He had to see it all and he was the best. Steve Bellichik was the best at coming back and being able to put an offense defense on the board as if he had studied the film for hours upon hours upon hours, and that's a tremendous talent..

"We're presented by progressive insurance. Saw the story in. I can't be surprised at any time that you take a look at the New England Patriots. Right. So the last week, Pat, and I were on the air, and we found out the breaking news was that rob gronkowski was retiring from the National Football League. And whatever our top story was we didn't need that top story anymore. Okay. Hiring whatever we were talking about the NC, double internal whatever that we had to push that to the side because rob gronkowski retired. So to me that was the beginning of the end for the patriots doesn't mean that the end is happening now. But you just know that the three faces of fear when it comes to the patriots is Bill Belichick Tom Brady. It's rob gronkowski. So rob is gone. And then this story comes about today regarding Bill Belichick, I find this interesting. And I'd love to see it. Bill Belichick has always been heavily involved with the New England Patriots defense is nineteen years as a head coach that could reach an even higher level in twenty nine thousand nine. So the story that was kind of odd. It was shelved because we've been talking so much about the NCAA tournament. But this story was odd coming from ESPN dot com and Mike Reese about grits Yano his stunning resignation from the patriots coaching staff that left a really big gaping hole to fill for the New England Patriots because Greg was the defensive coordinator. And so now the story comes about from ESPN dot com. The Bill Belichick could be a leading candidate to be the defensive coordinator. And why not right? You could just tell that. There are certain players that you could see that turn coaches or you see coaches that have been around for a long time that really wanna be able to put their full effort into everything that they do. And when it comes to Bill Belichick what he's done. Here is been able to put together a dynasty, arguably the best coach than we ever seen in the NFL and because of this if he decides to take the challenge of stepping in and being the defensive coordinator longer being head coach wouldn't surprise me. Because it's a new challenge check has been around and knows defense for a long for been around defense for a long time and knows how to coach it. And I just think that if Bill becomes the defensive coordinator for the patriots. And I'm sure he's got a large say in what happens with the personnel. And how they're able to go about their business challenge for them. Winning a Super Bowl championship multiple times. No that he's a hall of Famer that one the greatest that we've ever seen coach. So why not take on the challenge? I don't think that he'd be distracted in any shape performed because he's always has that attention to detail when it comes to his football team on both sides of the ball club special teams. So if bell check decides putting himself in a position defensive coordinator. It would not surprise me at all. Let's hear from my career who covers the patriots for ESPN dot com on the possibility belch it could be the leader on defense. The big question is who's going to lead the defensive meeting room Brian Lawrence there last year, you had Matt Patricia the year before that? And so who's the voice that's going to be talking to the defense. They five coaches are currently on staff. Read the owner, the former Arkansas coach is here joke Kim who works with the defensive linemen with martial arts types techniques. Gerard mayo. The former patriot is here DeMarcus Covington a young coach, and you have Gerard NATO. And steve. Bella check with the Cornerbacks in the safety. So they have coaches, but the question is who's going to lead that defensive room? It wouldn't be surprised if Bill Belichick actually the voice that's leading that defensive room. So the thoughts there from Mike Reese and pet I just think that if Bill Belichick names himself as a defensive coordinator, it's a new challenge for someone that has won a lot has been there and done that. So if you becomes the defensive coordinator to work with that defense, it wouldn't surprise me. And you know, what somehow someway, the patriots was still floors with him being that defensive coordinators and being head coach of the team. He had do you think that that something like that a challenge like that for somebody who has obviously been in that position they think that may be just kind of excites them a little bit. It just kind of gets them going on. I'm going to be back at doing that job that I'd done. He's done for so many or so successful at it. Now, he gets to get back into the grind. Maybe listen. As a patriots fan. I get excited about that. I also know Brett Bela's on staff and his his name had been floated around at times too. So, but it's a strange situation that would happen with Gregg giannotti. I don't I don't know if you've. Express. What what you feel maybe what's going on there? But the timing was I don't know. It was a little odd. It seems like where coach Yano is in his career. That he wouldn't have to kind of take the job to to realize that maybe it was time to step back. It was dot the time. It was very odd. I don't know what is going on which Janos life that he stepped away obviously, some personal. But I'd love to see Bella check take that challenge. And by the way, tune into baseball's opening weekend for a nationally east battle as Bryce Harper and the Phillies host the Braves no name there for the brave. Just just the Braves presented by deed coverage of say night. Baseball begins at six o'clock eastern on ESPN radio and the ESPN app and at seven o'clock on ESPN. Right types types in Edward Jones of the Braves. Thank you. No. I think that'd be awesome. I think that he should take that challenge. Because sometimes it is sometimes there's a name for defensive coordinator. Actually, it is the head coach that'll work. Yeah. Just probably need somebody to to sort of get the room ready and get things, and then you come in and sort of break it down. So it'll be. It it. It seems like it never gets easy for the patriots in their organization is always some sort of off season drama that they've been having to deal with the last couple of years. Thanks for hanging out for me last couple of hours. It's been cool, man. Thanks for coming by my pleasure in honor, Jonathan you're the best. You know that? All right. We got join cornet for the final two hours. We'll get his thoughts about the NCAA tournament and the Lakers off season is unofficially underway. That's next Dickerson and hood on ESPN radio. Why do you always have tension with people? I don't always have you saw said, I did see said. Yeah. That go that was back ULA. We we we we talked. We talked. We talked about it was fine. That was fine. I mean, I was sitting I go way back. I know you do I mean, he let me in the door. My first day at WFAN in two thousand five he was the guy. No, he opened the at not physically opened the door for me physically. I remember I I entered junior city was pacing back and forth in the lobby opened the door open WFAN. That's how far back I was two thousand and five and talking fourteen years ago. That's great. All right else. I don't have a better memory than me on this. I have forgotten about the same thing. That was a nice conversation would set up the dust settle there. But who else did we miss radio, guys rain tonight? Jason Barrett who put a second amongst the all the the morning shows that was nice. Yeah. I guess so sixth rookie, Bobby baby. Yeah. No, I think that's it boomer forgetting one year story in Iran. Branding. I'm just I'm just I was wondering. Now, I was about it. So I expect nobody really knows your cares about that. But is he doing he's over at serious doing what the VP sports programming? Yeah. I sat with him for a little bit. He's a good guy. He was a good guy. Still is still is a good guy. And then. This is a serious. Well, somebody better let's go to Tyler and North Carolina tower. How hey guys. Bella check gets these guys element from hear me out in nineteen eighty three. Phil Simms wanna fill Simpson's all favor target. He's twenty seven years old. He's given five years for the navy of the helicopter pilot. He wants to play. The NFL context is coach at navy Steve Bella check was the backfield. Coach that person was still mcconnachie gets to try out new defensive coordinator with the New York. Giants Bill ballot. Check it runs a four four forty five foot nine hundred sixty pounds still mcconnachie becomes a giant. So think about still Mottaki Danny amendola, west Welker doing all the same type guy. Same prototypes must go all the way back to fill mcconnachie tough type of player pesky always open table to cover a lot of ground play different positions. We turn the ball all goes back to one of those symptoms all targets, so McConnell. Yeah. I wouldn't doubt that you know, the great thing about Bill. Ballot. Check. And it's all right. The coaching scrape man now he wants he wants high Accu players man, you put them according brothers back there. And all of a sudden these two guys are tied together. Obviously identical twins will he likes to tax with a man. But he loves Patrick Chung. You know, we interviewed Patrick Chung last night after the game after he broken his arm and he's out there. He's still hanging. Every single one of these players are like robots all saying the same thing. It's do your job stay in your lane. No days off. I mean, all the stuff that says man, I'll tell you what what the I guess the secret sauce is winning because that's what's going to get everybody to buy into what's going on. But I still say you gotta have players that are gonna be women to be coached coached hard. And if they don't do it the way you want it to be done. You're not going to be there. And ultimately, this is what leads to right. What the Brady could be off which he was he was not great in this game. And this his worst Super Bowl. I think performance that he's ever had. But they still won which tells you something about playing for Bilbo check that you may not play your best may be on defense or offense because there have been great offense performances at Brady's put forth and they've lost. But the defense hasn't held up its end of the bargain. But last night, the defense held up its end of the bargain and put forth one of the great Super Bowl defensive performances of all time considering who they were playing and you feel like they can go back and do it all over again next year. And Brady says he's coming back. And you know, I asked Bob Kraft the owner after the game. What do you think is definitely coming back, and he goes well Vitas comeback. I'm gonna go pick them up and drive more. Yeah. Because they are expecting him to come back. Let's go to Ray in Sparta Ray. What's happening? Hey, mom. Great job agr old same talked about how you doing. It was a boring game. From my perspective. I always wanted the best games. Well, play games well-managed games. Special teams. The Rams defense. Trying to decide I played on both teams except for the offense of team for the Rams now, boomer I like to know Europeans. She thought that was one of the best games ever. I thought it was a really intense game. I said it earlier this morning, right? That I felt like the line of scrimmage was like a hornet's nest for both teams in both quarterbacks are really struggled with the pressure. And there was phantom pressure that I think Brady was reacting to in the first half. I think for two weeks. You're listening to all the stories about Aaron Donald being so great and unblock -able Dominic and Zubin is is you know. I don't know how to put partner in crime. If you will and that gets into your head. You know, you're you manure even if you are the greatest quarterback of all time, you're going to be human. You're gonna feel that. And you're going to go into the game. And you're going to be playing a little bit faster than you're like. But I just thought that both offensive line's really struggled against the opposing defensive lines. But I would say that over all the patriots were the tougher team. And people think of the patriots is like this finesse passing team. That's bull crab and they start running the ball the first day in training camp. And they run it, and they run it and they run into more. They are a running football team. And it's all about playing in a northeast. It's about playing in bad weather. It's all the stuff that the giants were under Parcells. Yeah. He had absolutes mirror image. I think it's a generational gap thing, I think if you're an older NFL fan, and you like big defenses and your steel curtain fan or a no name defense, or whatever it is. You'll love the game. People people people eaters. Yeah. Then you gotta love a game change. There you go the one all these the the bears and the eighty five bears defense and all that. But if you're someone who's younger who's used to the up and down nature of the NFL and you loved Rams chiefs at fifty three fifty one or whatever it was then. Yeah. This was going to be boring because there's eight million tonnes. It's amazing. I I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's Showtime inside the NFL shop because we have all these guys Mike, Don, right? Yeah. And I cannot wait to hear the frustration coming emanating, ROY I think from both sidelines authencity, and I'm sure we'll have discussions between Sean McVay and Jared Goff and. Zach Taylor their quarterback coach who will be named the Bengals head coach today. I'm sure we'll have conversations between ballot. Check and mcdaniels on the first half. I bel- couple timeouts offensively. It's kind of weird eye timeouts. You know? I don't know if they were calling trick plays, and they didn't like the defence guide or or a keep Toledo was going out on gronk, and they didn't expect that to between these two teams. Right DNC any fake ponds fake field goals or any sort of trickery in the game at all. Which is something that you usually see from these things because it was so defensive in nature for three quarters literally was just a logjam in between the right, man. I know nobody can do anything. Let's go to mo- in New Jersey mall. What's happening? Yeah. The money. Yeah. I I thought it was a great loss. So I think it's funny how we're very biased about budget New England Patriots defense if they were playing let's say the Baltimore Ravens of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Denver Broncos really praising defense. But just the fact that I feel like it's the patriots we expect their offense to pick up the pieces you're on. I I think Gilmore should have got the MVP. Well, I think you should have got it over and also I just the whole game. You're just sitting there waiting for the Rams to score every third down with. Is important. So that's what kept the game. Good. But as far as. It wasn't their best Super Bowl. Greatness of their defense is really defensive oriented. I think the Rams had eight punts in a row there at one point three or thirteen on third down something like that. Some just ungodly an unseemly number. Calvin ROY played his ass off Dont'a Hightower play. Oh my God. And the little things that Benoy did. So they created a lot of pressure on Goth. They sacked him four times. I think they hit him thirteen times. And then there were a couple of times where they're trying to run the bootlegs and Benoy just blew up. I was either I couldn't tell what was a wide receiver because it happened so fast. The guy is supposed to go out in the flat underneath Jared Goff. He just absolutely lit up was whoever was trying to come out of the backfield and just not the living crap out of him and knocked him back into the offensive line. And then went out and got Jared Goff. Jared Goff had nobody to throw the ball to. That was the I was one of the place where they he threw it out. And then got hit out into the sideline. There were a couple of times where he got hit on the sideline where I was surprised. There was at one especially in everybody was that was Brady they would have stopped the game of thrones somebody out, and blah, blah, blah. But you're probably right about that. But that's the way those things go I think another thing that hurts the Super Bowl little bit is the two previous ones with the patriots in all time games..

"To hear from you. Tim is up next in New Jersey. Hello, tim. Hey, Paul, our you. Well, thank you for the call just interested in hearing about your opinion of George wells. I actually played for George. He was. Virginia for seventeen years. And then he was out before that he was at navy for nine years. And then before that he was at Penn State with maternal. And then before fraternal he was there with rip Bengal. I would just want to you. Yeah. He passed away yesterday. And and I will say very little I want to hear from you. But in terms of reputation as not only superb coach, but a class individual. I think he would be at or near the the front of any conversation. I interacted with him briefly a couple of times, but tremendous respect for him. What was he liked to play for? Well, it was a great coach when it came to Xs and os, there were very few people that could even the whole stick to him. He he was a second people forget this. He was a second team all American quarterback in nineteen fifty six and he was number. He was third in the Heisman Trophy didn't realize in one thousand nine hundred fifty five his senior year fifty five into fifty six. He graduated from the naval academy in nineteen fifty-six. But he was a second team all American and again, the you know, he was third in the Heisman race in his senior year. So he was a great athlete of a great coach. As I said before he surrounded himself with some excellent people at one time actually played for him at navy, and he became the winningest coach at the time during my senior year there subsequently record us in bypassed. But then he was at Virginia for seventeen and did quite well there, but it's it's a sort of see him pass. And I just was wondering if you no no, I it's it's a it's a significant passing in terms of of the game. I'm glad you brought it up, and what are unique experience that must have been for you. Yeah. It was. I mean, it was he was I said before he was a great coach when it came to Xs and os, and again, he surrounded himself with some great people many of his assistants went on to to head coaching jobs. I did not realize what a great player was that was fascinating to hear. Yeah. A lot of people don't realize that they should get that part about George, and you know, he was a really a very. Very good competitor in you know, he he hit a great relationship with Bill Belichick father. Steve Bella check was that navy for fifty years, and he he enjoys at a very good relationship during the time that Georgia's the head coach there. So the Bella check, you know, coaching history goes on and on. Well, thank you, Tim. Thank you for calling. And thank you for bringing that up. I was negligent. I should have said something earlier. Trae Lamar on Clemson and executive your McKinney for Alabama who played together in high school on the same defense in highschool any idea if that's ever happened. I don't know. I in a national championship game. It could have happened last year with the Alabama Georgia. I don't remember it. But I did right. I did hear about that. That's really interesting. I'll we'll find out if it has happened or not, okay. Very good. I appreciate it. Thank you. Good to have you on great stuff. Another georgia. Caller, frank. You're on the air. Hey, good afternoon.
