"steve ballmer" Discussed on Leadership and Loyalty

"Bill Gates, obviously, you know, what Microsoft, Steve Ballmer is a single largest shareholder of Microsoft stock. He's worth about $60 billion. He was an employee. I can keep going. Tim Cook at Apple was an employee. The point is you don't have to be the founder to bring incredible value to a company and be rich and I just gave you three examples of Microsoft, Apple and Facebook of people that were not introductory founders were not, you know, in the original team and were employees and every one of them are billionaires. It's a great point. I think that we tend to go, well, that's for the big boys and you can play at that level. You just have to, again, it's a level of self trust to say, you know, and the thing is you may be in an environment where it's not appreciated. It's not recognized. But we are actually in a talent market where you can take your great idea somewhere else been somebody will listen and we'll be happy to listen and as you said bankroll it and support you in the process of it. It's funny. My son, who does handles TikTok for a very well known person, I'm not going to say this person thing right here. But he was in Forbes magazine 50 richest Americans under the age of that kind of which at the level that he's at. My son does this video work with TikTok and all that. And he takes my son to dinner about a month ago after they did a big event. And this is what he says to my son. He says, Colin, I want you to bring me ten ideas a month. Ten ideas a month. We're going to run with one of those. You're going to bring one of those to me that's great. And I'd say when my son was done, he left he believed it. And he's like, no, I got this idea. The next morning, on my Instagram, this person listens to me a one minute message of voice message about how sharp he thought my son was, because listen, kids like that don't happen by accident. You and your wife did a great job. You know, did a great job. But the point is is that my son, you know, 20 years old and this billionaire is saying to him, hey, bring me ten ideas a month. To a 20 year old. Why? Because he knows ideas can come from anyone. Yes. Anyone yeah, and again, you know, I our cultural corporate cultural blind spot is that as you said earlier, you know, we're only allowing ideas from the top three guys with the biggest offices. Instead of saying, hold on a second, well, what is the genital thing? What does the front desk person think? What does, you know, this person who's only worked here a week think? Yeah, you're absolutely right. Everybody can bring everybody everybody can contribute. Yeah. Yeah, that's really good. So let's talk a little bit about, you know, I use the metaphor in the introduction around Achilles heels. And the thing about an Achilles heel is it's another metaphor for a blind spot. A blind spot is something you can not see. You I we can not see ourselves. And the problem with power and success is the higher you climb in those things, often the more difficult it is to see your online sports because people won't point them out for because there's a power imbalance. You know, you've talked a lot about your Achilles heel, the awareness of that you were using prescription drugs without even realizing you were addicted. What are some of your guidance around helping people to potentially see their own blind spots their own Achilles heel? The thing that could bring them down. Hey, this is what I tell people. You know who you are. That's the sad part. You typically know who you are. And I say if you have like any behavior that you do not have control over, whether whatever the habit is, you know, you're a functional alcoholic, you know, whatever the case may be or you know you have that one thing that if it was brought to light, you'd be humiliated embarrassed, or whatever the case may be. You know, we all, you know, everybody has different things. You just need to be aware of that and it's better to it's better to win that battle than to lose that battle. You know, because the fact that you have a weakness, this is the thing that that doesn't diminish you in any way. I don't care what it is. Listen to me, I don't care. I'm old enough to know. I've heard of there's nothing I haven't heard of. From drugs to perversion to everything in between. Just so you know, everybody who's got that there's a reason why it rarely does it, you know, but you can overcome it. Yes. It doesn't have to. What I always say, it doesn't have to be the final chapter. It can be the chapter in the book. Okay, it's in the book. I was addicted to this. I did this. I did. I don't care what it is. But it doesn't have to be the last chapter. That's true. That's great. Yeah, absolutely. So, Sean, what do you think is your superpower? Identifying talent in people when they don't see it in themselves. Finding business and business, I'm really good at finding great partners. People that would never see themselves at the top of the, you know, but I look at it and I'm like, I saw that person that sales meeting. That person was quiet with the smartest person in it. That's how I started my digital car. Digital marketing company is going to do a $1 million and we have our fourth employee in like three months and I was getting pitched by all these people on digital marketing. My TV station was pitching me, my radio station for fit to me. And the quietest guy in the room was the smartest guy in the room. I called him the next day. He's the only one I got rid of everybody's business card. I took his business card. I called him up the next day. I said, James, and I'm going to sign on with you all. If once a month, you'll come to my conference room and under 15 minutes or less, explain to me what I spent money on. Because I don't understand this whole digital marketing thing. He did that for like 6 months, but in that first call, I said, but by the way, James, at some point, you and I are going to start a company together, you're going to come work for me. I was also when I agreed to do it. Well, guess what? He did a great job. 6 months later I said to him, I said, James, have you ever been to Disney World? You and your family because no, I said, I want to pay for you and your family good Disney World. He goes, well, why would you do that? I said, remember I told you the first time we met? I said, you are going to be a business partner of mine or employee. Three years later, he and I have a $1 million digital marketing company that he runs. He would have never ever ever in a million years saw himself running a company. Right. For the first year, I had to remind him he could do it. I'm like, no, you're doing great. He gets so overwhelmed. That's my superpower. Seeing potential in people that they don't necessarily see in themselves. Now I have multiple companies, lots of partners. So many feel good stories like that. Beautiful. Yeah, where I remember hired a guy for $850 a week. I never forget it. Tony, he was like, pay me $850 a week. I said to him, I'd love to pee in our 50 weeks. I'd love to, but I'd be stealing from you. I'd be stealing from you. So why don't you take a percentage of the profit? And I said, I'll guarantee that you'll make 850 a week. But why don't we do a profit sharing? Last year I made a quarter of a $1 million. He's made it over $200,000 for the last four years. He wanted 850 week. What do you think he would take a bullet for me right now? Of course. His wife and our holiday. Kisses me on the cheek, everything. All my partners lives do and say, just want to thank you. Beautiful. Yeah. So.

"Fifty six if you get it right. You win the million dollars. She got out bowl georgia. That's a really really tough not impossible but a tough way to take a shot at winning a million dollars. But let's face it if you have a chance to win a million bucks and it's pick the two teams that are going to go to the super bowl and what the score is again. The odds are a little against you. But they're against you when you go buy a lottery ticket every week as well. This is a real cheshire. A million dollars. However however if i must say so myself i feel like we're burying the lead here right like. Yeah rams bucks. Tickets may not be a million dollars but that is an opportunity of a lifetime. Tom brady against matthew stafford. And brady's playing for this conyers. I know you love tom brady but i really comparing to winning a million dollars. Not exactly but as a sports fan the likelihood million dollars the odds are stacked against you going to see the buccaneers and the rams on sunday at so-fi stadium. That is an incredible price. But wait a second. It gets better on october seven. I'm going to take a bunch of seven ten listeners. We're gonna go towards the stadium and then we're going to go on the field and kick field goals together georgia. I hope i don't get hurt. Like pull a hamstring quadriceps capital kicker. I know but george. I'm fifty man. I mean you saw me try and do fifty push only forty four. I don't want her tearing achilles. I mean that would be pretty hilarious for the show toured achilles or something you're right. Maybe maybe not an achilles. Can we just get you like a hamstring. Ami would be funny. I mean it would be funny but it would be painful. Not the achilles. Achilles is too harsh a hamstring would be funny. I guess i mean it would be funny. If you'll with a hamstring. come on. i mean. I'm going to have to start getting out on the field here and warm up a little bit. I can't go in there and make an ask yourself bro. You we told you that about the push ups dude and you didn't listen. I sent her. I set the bar for your forty and you wanted to do fifty. If you've listened to me you would. You would have surpassed the goal. You would've looked different. You're right to stretch. Stretch that your advice. Okay very stretch bro. You'll be fine kick field goals you kick them in division one football for god's sake stretching and i'll tell you right now. I'm on a massive crash course diet starting today. okay. I gotta lose so anyhow. Here's the deal. We have a couple a bunch of callers on the line. Here's the question okay. We were at rams camp a few weeks ago and talk to head coach. Sean mcvay about being a good dancer. We asked him to show off. Some of his dance moves and he said he needed blank to get him to dance. He said quote a little of it goes a long way. What did he say that he needed. What was that blank. Let's start with jacob jacob provincia in pasadena jacob. What did sean mcvay say. He needed a little blank of to get him to dance tequila. No that's not what he said exactly. Yeah you gotta say the exact phrase that he used so you gotta be listening to the show guys clearly. Somebody smart goes back on the podcast. Actually po chan in diamond bar. Po- are you ready. Yeah i'm not gonna get it wrong all right. So sean mcveigh at training camp and we spoke to who are being dancer we ask them to show off some dance moves live in front of us and he said he needed blink to get him to dance and he said a little of it goes a long way. I'm gonna say south music. No paul really really good answer for someone who wasn't gonna instrument. You didn't know the answer. So you came up with salsa music very solid very good would get me to dance for sure. Let's go to andrew lim in the. Oc andrew these are for rams bucks tickets and a chance for to compete in the competition. So we asked shauna gay to show off some of his dance moves and he said he needed a little blank to get him to dance and he added a little of it goes a long way. What did he say coffee. Thank you who needs coffee today. Maybe andrew thought that mcveigh was feeling a little tired. maybe he needed a caffeine. Pick me up of some sort and that'll get dancing. But i don't think that was the answer. Okay let's go to daniel guy eggos in southgate. I daniel you ready. I think hopeful. Okay sean mcveigh was with us. We asked about being a good dancer. We ask the sheriff. Some of his dance moves. He said he needed a little of blink to get him to dance and added a little of it goes a long way. What did he say. No bro thank you so disappointed. You guys are on the right track but you gotta use the proper phrasing that he used. He used a very very specific phrase. He said it's going to take this blank blank. And it's a very common phrase that people use all right. Steve korch off that. I get that right stephen north hollywood. Yeah you got it right okay. Wow I i have vague recollection of of this happening. But i don't. I'm i'm gonna say a.

"Sit next to him and then he told her that he was going to be upgrading. Only his seat to first class shiro. We've been together a little over a year. I'm still in college. Don't have a ton of money. He graduated if years ago and make six figures he wants to go on a trip with me. And a few months which i can afford as long as i don't splurge on too many extras. He wants to upgrade to first class for himself. Because he's six foot two and it would be more comfortable for him especially during a long flight. I can't afford the ticket. And he doesn't want to pay for two of them kind of upset but i know it'd be more comfortable for him. Is the boyfriend the will here swipe left or swipe right kep. Swipe he is the a whole. Look if you and you have a girlfriend you're a guy you have a girlfriend. You're a little bit older. She's a little younger. You make more money. She doesn't make as much and you say we're going to go on a trip together. But i'm six two so i have to sit in first class and you. You're a little shorter than me. And you can't afford it so you buy your plane ticket and you sit back there and coach if you do that you're in a hole and let me tell you something else. If let's just say me and my girlfriend go to the airport and we both check in for our flight. And we're both sitting in coach. And i somehow get upgraded to first class. I'm like oh no baby here you go. You take the first class seat. I'll sit and coach no problem. Don't tell me six two. oh six to. i'm so gigantic. I can't sit in coach. No that's an ego thing. He's in a hole. He wins very passionate about this. Yeah that really bothers me. Only thing with cab dude. You're a church if that's what you're going to. I feel right. But i wouldn't be that bad though like i mean. Yeah i mean if he's making six figures. I guess would be that mad. That's pretty rude. Listen to me if warren buffett flies coach. I fly coach k. Look have i have. I had the opportunity to fly first class. Yeah when i've upgraded. Or i've used points but this. I've flown to europe coach. I flew to fiji coach. You can do it if you want to get to the end place. You can do it okay. But i'm gonna. I'm gonna fly first class and put my girlfriend back and coach no. I would never do that. If you're going to fly i you need to whoever's coming with you if you're the one buying like if you're flying together like you're a couple or whatever then you gotta go together especially on a long flight to like six hours making our by herself on a six hour flight. That's pretty good. That's terrible a getting back. I'm going to be up here. I'm going to be watching movies. I'm going to be eating a bunch of free food. Drinking all the free booze and they give me and if you can't go to the math appear sorry. The curtains closed by the way. Don't even look up here. Don't even look here. You get in the back with everybody else one here. The cleveland browns have launched a new free option for fans to enter games at first energy stadium using facial recognition technology will. How does it work. Fans can enroll in linked their ticketing account to a selfie. And come to the stadium and just enter at their face when they arrive. At first energy stadium they can enter in the express access lane and they can walk up to an ipad using the same type of technology. It checks and verifies that you are the correct person. Close down your tickets and you can even enter multiple tickets in one transaction at the gates for scanning each individual. One fans don't have to use their phone. They don't have to add tickets to their wallet which is already good process but this just makes it even quicker while it sounds like inefficient productive process. You find this at all creepy swipe left or swipe sodano. Yeah i'm swiping right on that. I feel kinda creepy. What do you think cap. I actually think it sounds like a genius idea. But one of those genius ideas that i'll never use because i'm old school and i want to hold a ticket in my hand or i'm even cooler now and i'm techno and got the ticket on my phone. I just don't think i'll use facial recognition. Wait techno techno no. Techno music techie. I feel like i mean listen. We use recognition. Stuff is creepy. Yeah of course it is and we use it. We all do it. If you have an iphone or whatever you actually any phone now even android whatever. All of them i mean andrew was probably i believe. I actually like yeah. It's all weird. Larwood using that. I i was like this isn't gonna work so i'm going to swipe left right but because people use it like if you're going to put a selfie with your ticket you're probably gonna use the coolest selfie you got. And what do people do with their fees. They put a thousand filters on some like they're going to go to this stadium and be like finding the person but it doesn't even matter i don't know about this. Hey that's not really you. Yeah like. That's the selfie version that you gave us as the tenth filter on it so you can't filter real so i mean but then you said iphones do it. I was like oh yeah. I guess it could work. It's creepy but i don't know if it's going based on a selfie. I think it has to be a bear selfie of somebody not a filtered selfie. Because they're not getting in getting this new point point. My problem is with facial recognition. I use it for everything right. Your right george. You point your iphone your face. It's like okay. I know you let you let you in you go to your online banking. It's like how do you wanna sign. I'm like i don't know. I forgot my password. But i've got facial recognition. Click on that. yeah. I don't know why it'd be opposed to it. Yeah yeah we all use. It really is all right. That's that's time for radio. Tinder coming up next million dollar mondays. Lindsey want explain real quick. What the hell. We're doing.

"Obama percents. He's trying to create a rivalry that doesn't exist. We don't care about the clippers. Don't care what they're doing. Move out of our stadium. That's who cares up giving him attention listening them. 'cause that's what little brothers do. They just raised their hands. Control their hands around and feed a and made all this drama just to pay attention to them. You know what. That is. An interesting concept joe. It's an interesting concept. Because i have two children the seven year old. She's a sweetheart. She loves her little brother her little brother luma brat sometimes and i love him is birthdays. Today that'd be bright. He's i think he's he's a little bit of a pain in the ass to your point so there is some of that well but the other part of george is like if you you're steve bomber. Though you're looking across the way at the lakers and their ownership and you're going look. I got more money than these guys have. I can throw more resources into this. I can build an arena that that is comparable to what so-fi stadium is and i can host olympics here in eight years and all these other things. I'm going to try overwhelm people with my state of the art techno thinking and i got the money to do it on my own so i'm going to give people something that they've never had before i'm going to give him an experience. They've never had before. I'm going to try and convert them into clipper fans. Now see me awfully hard to do. Yeah not easy for sure. Not by any stretch of the imagination this town. There's just too much winning going on too much too. Much of a legacy. I is it coming up next. we've got radio. Tender was popular segments here on this very radio station. That lindsay is brought over with her. And we're giving away a chance to win a million dollars every monday. We have million dollar mondays. We're not giving away a million dollars every monday but every monday we are going to give you a chance to win a million dollars. This is insane by the way. There's nobody in the history of sports radio that has ever done. A million dollar giveaway. Show that to be true nine and we will explain how you can win a million dollars. You got to be listening at five forty or so five forty the in between five forty five forty five. We're going to give you a chance to potentially win a million dollars. It's going to be very simple. We'll explain it after radio tinder. So don't go anywhere. we'll take your calls as well. Keep them coming. Laker fans as steve bombers. Calling your butts out seventeen ten. Espn back in three minutes. Yeah it is time for radio. Tinder don't forget about ten or twelve minutes. We're going to give you a chance to win on million dollar mondays. Here's the deal. You want to line it up right now or there's people on hold you get a chance to play directly before anyone else calls him. You can call eight seven seven seven ten. Espn eight seven seven seven. Three seven seven six. Here's the deal. This is how you win a million dollar. Monday's okay you got to predict the teams and the final score of super bowl fifty six but how are we getting them to call inlands. That's the question we're to do that at the end of radio tinder. You're gonna tell the people how to do that but let's play radio gender. I all right guys last week. Oblivion woman claimed in-and-out viral facebook post that she found a severed human finger inside her fast food hamburger. Unfortunately the gruesome discovery wasn't made until after she already taken her first bite her post which contains very graphic photos and a video from the incident has nearly two hundred thousand views and the restaurant. That's in question here was temporarily closed in find in light of the unfortunate incident. Now this particular story. I don't know if it's real. I don't know if it's true. It's a little extreme. But have any of you guys ever found an unexpected surprise ever in your food swipe left or swipe right sodano. You could go. I like you might have a good answer for this. I don't actually swipe left. That happened to where i found some random thing in. I'm actually thankful that that's been the case. I've been very lucky. 'cause i know people that have found crazy stuff in their food and i'm four gently like what i mean just like animal stuff. You know what. I mean like and things of that. Nature mason recently found. Yeah he he. He found what he believes the he did take a picture of it. We never determined but it looks like human tooth inside of the sandwich at starbucks right. Remember kappler about you now. I'm gonna have to swipe the same direction of george. Swipe left like the worst thing that i've ever seen in food is like a big long hair. You know and i. I'm the kind of person that i'm eating. Something that i'm really into and then i'm like oh grossly this frigging long hair and then i take it out i push it off to the side i drop it on the floor and i go back to eating whatever i was eating. You know like hair. not i'm done would you. Would you send it back and say. Bring me a new one with without hair or leave. Give me the bill. I have a kind of gross. One is pretty gross. Yes when i was younger. I was probably like ten. Maybe twelve years. Old and i went to open house. I open the box of new cereal. I believe it was golden grams. Because that was my favorite cereal and opened it up and the box was brand new and it was filled with moths. There were marks side the serial eating it. It was the nastiest thing and i wrote the company a letter and told them how disappointed i was. And they sent me like coupons for like one hundred and fifty boxes of golden grams. And i never ate them again. Well i hear these stories about people they say. Well i opened up a hamburger from a fast-food place in a human finger fell out of it. I'm like did that really happen. Like really because i'm i'm still trying to figure out how the human finger got in there. Was it the guy who's cooking. the burger. Just so happened to accidentally cut his finger off and then he's running around the kitchen going. Where the hell's my finger. Oh no it was in. Somebody's burger or was it someplace where somebody who's actually making the burger. Patty like my finger fell off. Oh no what happened to it. And then somebody winds up. Eating burger in the finger falls. When when i hear these stories i'm like i don't believe it. I mean i'm skeptical myself. But you know everybody's story right. It is hard to believe. That's for sure visiting question. What's next all right. Well speaking of things that are hard to believe a woman cannot believe. Her boyfriend is refusing to sit next to her on their vacation. Flights she asked my favorite reddit page and the whole to weigh in her boyfriend makes more money than her. When they decided to travel for vacation he wanted to splurge on inexpensive airline. She wanted to fly cheaper one but she agreed to spend the extra money to.

I would definitely pay no matter like new. No matter what the money is. I would pay to watch them. I wanna go see him. So i think he's coming to la. Unlike december is he. Yeah they rescheduled at like four times. He had well he was doing. Not only was he doing staples. Who's doing the forum. Which by the way. What are the clippers. Go through with the forum or they just going to turn that thing down now. That's a good question that i'd love to know the answer to so let me get this straight. You're going to have the forum. You're gonna have the new clippers arena and you're going to have so-fi stadium all within walking distance to one another. Why why would you need to arenas right next to each other up. Well one of kirtley's a concert venue so they own that so they can make money have concerts and then i would imagine eventually they'll just get rid of the forum and just let the concerts abinet the new arena. Because you're if you're a concert goer you're like listen. The forum was great back in the eighties. But no i got operate well. But compared to what they're going to build it's not going to be as great way right. Virgil what they're going to build. But right now. I would take a concert at the forum over a concert. At staples was up. The acoustics sounds better better better ruling way better than really not even close. In my opinion. I didn't know that it pains me to say that now because of who owns it but it's true it's the truth it's the truth. Is the better venue for concerts. There's no doubt laura would. How mad would it make you bomber. Just tore that down toward wanna talk about that are you. Why are you being so negative on a monday. Sodano says your questions bombers talking all this magazine. I mean he wants to do that because you know what i mean. A brings him brings him to light because people start talking and you know. He needs the lakers brand to move his brand. That's just way but it would be like the heel of he'll moves. I think billionaire can do whatever the hell he wants. I mean he literally built this state building this stadium this into it arena into a dome or whatever it's going to ever come by like with the money. This couch cushions gambling. Well yeah i mean. Listen guys like steve. Bomber are determined to win. And he's not from la you know he's from seattle and his opinion. It's like okay. I've made all this money. I've moved by operations or at least part of them down to la. I've got an nba basketball team. He's going to behave this way whether he bought the los angeles clippers or the oklahoma city. Thunder you know. He's a i'm going to say. He's a mark cuban. Ask kind of character. You know where he's sitting at courtside cheering crazies. Got his hand in his mouth. He's losing his mind and he's not one of these owners who know kind of behind the scenes. He's very front and center and so he's not buying into the la is a laker town. And that's the way it's always going to be. He's buying into. I'm to build a kick ass new arena. I'm going to get people to come to this venue. There's gonna be a better place to watch a game. And i'm going to convert people into clipper fans because we're good now. I don't know if he's really going to be able to do it. And when you've got that kind of money with that money comes gigantic ego mostly because you get what you want everywhere you go. And he's going to try to get what he wants. Which is to convert. At least half of l. a. into clipper fans as opposed to just pure laker fans all right. Let's go to the phones here. Because i am curious to see how people feel about bombers shot at laker fans specifically but lindsay. Before i go to the calls real quick. You are wrestling person. I mean the he'll move of. He'll moved to like get rid of the form. Yeah yeah but. I feel like i don't. I don't think it would actually happen. I think he would threaten to do it. And then he seems like a guy who just wants everybody to like him and like his product and like his team right you have to arenas next door to each other. It's a great question. I mean i feel like that would just be like a sin. Isn't that what it'd be like an la sin to tear down the forum. Everyone hate him. You're right well you boy but on the hand on the other hand it might be a move where you're like. Hey look. I'm worth this amount of money. I bought this team from one of the worst owners in in sports. I've turned it into a consistent winner not a championship team but a consistent winter and for me to have my team compete. I need a brand new state of the art building. And yeah i got it. The lakers used to call this place home. But that's my now. So what am i gonna do have two competing arenas right next to each other. That's stupid get rid of one. Build a new one. And that's what i'm thinking bombers thinking you hear what i just did there. I'm thinking what he's thinking. Yes yes let's go to david in palm springs. David how're you. Hey i'm doing grid good afternoon. You know what i think for one. If he's going to get rid of the forum that would be no way to gain half of the laker fans that would be a big mistake for one And i do get some of what he's saying like as a laker fan. You don't want him to win a chip while he's still sharing the building with us. So that's you know part of what he's saying. I agree with but he really has to win a chip. He's crosstown if they don't win at ship over there. What's to stop the laker fans from flooding in there like they do. It's a short drive so that's not gonna change anything. He has to win a ship you know and as a laker fan. It's kinda like they came from san diego and it's almost like they've been crashing on our couch for twenty years and you know sometimes we come home and we might have a date with us and we got this guy and his boxers. You know on the couch. It's time to maybe move and you're gonna have to win at shift to do it. That's what i think. Well listen having your own building a start. I'm not talking about winning a championship or not winning a championship. I'm just talking about if you're gonna try and build a fan base. The one thing you cannot do is be the lakers little brother or be the guy was crashing on the lakers couch. 'cause you're intrusive and offensive in some ways you got to have your own building. You've got to have your own place where you say. This is our home. We don't change mid court based on who's playing we don't change the colors that are wrapped around and on the lcd lighting. This is our building and listen. I think just by the way george. Since we're talking about this. I think what will happen is in ten years or twenty years. Whatever it may be the chargers when they sell to a multi-billionaire they're gonna find the same thing they're gonna want their own.

"Of ignore the clippers. We're good now. We're going to be good near in year out. And i think some of the fans on the other side if you like what you dare dare to question our supremacy. Y'all we do. We got our fans. We use our expression l. a. r. way the other guys get a little threaten. That's okay that means we're doing good now loud out. You are the resident laker fan born and raised okay the bomber take a scud. Missile shooting it right at laker nation What happens there. What what. What was your reaction. They still don't win. They sit on got nothing. So i don't care like com- emmy bro. You don't know chip. You got a nice fancy mansi thing coming your way okay cool your millions can by chip by wants to get a chapel talk. D- what does happen if if the clippers were to ever win a championship them what happens. Then they'll say win win fifteen more. No then you gotta tip you gotta okay congrats. You would say that but there are a lot more people there'd be say would fifteen more and then we'll talk. Yeah well that's that's what one fan base would say to another fan base when when the laker fan base and i'm putting this in quotes but he's offended. How dare you be in this town. How dare you share our building. How dare you put up street signs promoting this as if it's yours rather than ours. How dare you guys. I will tell you this george. I give steve bomber a ton of credit for being smart enough to realize you know what this is a laker town and we are the secondary resident of this town and by playing in the same building. When we're the home team and it says clippers at midcourt. But we're playing against the lakers and the whole building is laker fans. We need we gotta get our own place. We cannot be the secondary resident in their building. Not even secondary tertiary. The kings are on what i mean by secondary's second basketball team. My point is is this having your own building having your own part of town putting your new arena next to a legendary spot putting it next to the greatest sports stadium on the planet now. They have found a great place to build a new arena and listen if they win people will go. The honeymoon will last two or three years. Everybody will want to go into wanna see the arena that want to check it out the want to test out the food. They want to see how quickly you can get in and out of the bathrooms. Because that's a big thing these bragging about but seriously the honeymoon only lasts a couple years in a new bill. Anyway but what what. It was the bathroom thing. Because i missed that everyone. I saw people tweet about that. What was the bathroom thing. So bomber says that one of the things that drives him nuts is when he goes to a game and it takes forever to get in and out of the bathroom. I mean it is problem so now what he's doing this new arena is. He's going to have one toilet per every twenty seven fans. So if i could try and do the math on the air and i can't so if somebody has a calculator if you have fifteen thousand people in an arena and you have one toilet per twenty seven people. How many toilets are now in this. New clipper arena. This is a good algebra class or injured in fifty five really. Did you just do that on the fly like that. Laura question dan 'wow now having calculated bros. Call nine phone calculus. So so that's what he's been talking about is he goes this bomber. I've become obsessed with toilets. And then he goes. Toilets toilets toilets. And i'm like you're a billionaire worth one hundred billion hundred billion whatever the dollar figures and you're consumed with the toilets. He just wants to make the experience the best it can be. I give them credit for that because he needs to. They've got to do something different. Playing basketball and playing a winning brand of basketball is not enough. You're always going to be the stepchild of la build a new arena make dope af and keep on winning. Maybe you can build a fan base. Maybe maybe not guaranteed time a long time already taking lane winning because they were a joke for a long time like not just bad like arguably the worst organisation in sports prior to him. I think that's that's probably a fair statement based on who the previous owner was. But you get a new owner. You get a new building. You make the new building as technologically advanced and as user friendly. How about this. You make it advanced. Use that word. yeah okay. Good posture you might. You might actually be able to attract some people who say. I can't afford laker tickets or i can't get to laker games or the traffic is not so good getting into downtown. I mean i'm just trying to make something up as to why somebody would want to go to a clipper game instead of a laker game. But i believe having your own buildings worth starts. Oh no no i agree. They needed their own place. Because again as we mentioned in the third dam tended. But i'm curious and laura plate one more time when i tell you i want to hear what laker fans have to say to steve bomber. After he tried you like this go ahead play at laurel or not. Do we have it now. We have been having some computer issues in studio so i'm going to going to bail out with that. Excuse whether or not it's true or false is immaterial and even if it wasn't true let's just say it anyway. Large we have the sound. We just played okay. Good i think for enough years. The clippers were bad enough. Everybody could just kind of.

Some of us likes to some of us like to drink around here and sam. Adams actually has a new beard. Coming out it's part of their utopias brand it's Every two years they kind of come up with a new edition but this one in particular is illegal in fifteen states so legal because it contains twenty eight percent of alcohol by volume. So it's more than five times. The potency of typical. Us brewers so. Yeah you can't you can't have it in like fifteen states so mostly in the southern states you can have it but utah's like out of all places utah and i'm like okay. Wait what do you mean like. Utah's one of those places where it's hard to find a drink. Sometimes drive utah. I have my friends always drunk. So i mean there are places that it's hard to find a drink sometimes in utah like still even to this day in two twenty twenty one when i'm gone of beers available or this drink is available in the state of utah. Thank you certainly southern states. Yeah so georgia won't have it. Mississippi montana so anyways fifteen states. I don't understand that about the southern states. I guess technically that's what they would. I mean those are like more Conservative religious states in that regard bible belt as what language originally call it. But pro you go to those. I've been to a game at the university of georgia and people are getting down. Okay so i don't know. yeah exactly. They make their own thing. Yeah that like the southern states. You'd think that they'd be big proponents of like the high of let's go. Yeah yeah so yeah so. It's going to be difficult to find anyways because they're only gonna make thirteen thousand bottles of this beer and it's expensive as twenty eight percent. Most liquors are forty percent. Alcohol by volume. Yeah that's pretty strong. It is is what i would say by. Grab any go ahead. Sorry if you get any bottle of anything tequila whiskey. Whatever it's about forty percent alcohol by volume If any of you guys ever seen this anywhere. Get a bottle for me. Because i want to get it for my dad because my dad is obsessed with sam adams. That's like his favorite in the world. That's all drinks. yeah and i feel. I should have been october fest. Girl was all over in cincinnati but the retail price is two hundred and forty dollars for the for the beer it so they make it every two years and it started in two thousand seventeen. The cost was one hundred ninety nine dollars on then. It just keeps going up every two years. Good lord honestly tell you guys right now. I don't drink. Sam adams i mean may be a great beer. I don't really know. I don't drink it and if you told me. Hey you can pay two hundred and forty dollars for this twenty five ounce bottle of beer. I no chance. But i think the smart move is. We're limiting it to thirteen thousand bottles so hope to drive demand Scarcity tober eleven. You guys wanna buy this twenty percent alcohol.

What You Need to Know About Bitcoin Layer 2s

"Everyone will come to. Our panel layer twos on bitcoin with melting juniors chief strategy officer at coin shares and nick carter general partner at castle island ventures. Welcome milton nick. Hi laura so exciting to be here. And i have to give thanks to nick in advance. I roped tim into sitek around like doing this. I wanna have. I'm risk can with you know. I'm very glad to be here though is a really great remix of of massive attack. Just before the saw's really enjoying that. Yes so was i. So let's start our discussion by just defining what layer one and layer to are for people who don't know just to make sure we're on the same page and also multiple layers are necessary at all. Shirk jonah kick it off nick. I can start. i can start in. Virtually every payments system there they functioned in layers so when we talk about layers and bitcoin or cryptocurrency. It's actually completely in line with how things work in the traditional payments base. So you know it's possible to send a wire as a consumer you know. We have access to fed wire. Want but you know for the most part when you use dollars you're transacting with credit systems or peer to peer payments like bone papon cetera. Those would be considered second or even third layer on top of more fundamental clearing infrastructure. Where you have backed payments which happen less frequently and their larger in size and those payments at the bottom of stack of higher assurances. So and they kind of settled immediately as opposed to higher layer payments which settle on a deferred basis so credit card payments are not final immediately so extend that analogy to Currency just sort of contextualized it a little bit. Bitcoin payments would be considered fast settling high assurance payments. So those are my mind can have utility scale transactions. You can use months. Value can have confidence. they're going to settle. Immediately layer to in. My view is more about deferring settlement getting more skill ability through training off against those settlement. Assurances are getting faster finality By trading off again against assurances so basically opening up the design space and mirroring. Those you know that that layered model that we have in payments itself and i think that's really how payments systems scale as far as we understand them it's unlikely that unite everybody on the bottom layer the that would be like all we ever used for. Transactions was sending wires to each other. So that's kind of my view of it multiple. Know if you've a different diagnosis. I think the way you articulated. Nick is a great starting point You know the analogy. We use often is the bitcoin. Blockchain is more akin to fed wire. And what we've seen you know. A lot of other protocols have moved more quickly to adopt layer twos. I think the ferryman particular is one that from the very early days had a mindset to sort of start moving towards layer two and one of the interesting observations is over the last six Six months pardon really as we've seen the explosion of defy a new financial primitives being implemented on top of the theory. Obviously it's resulted in a lot of challenges in network availability network throughput and rising price in in sending transactions across the network deploying contracts now. Obviously bitcoin doesn't function in the same way. But what. I think is important to note. Is you know. There is an important function here. Whereas bitcoin usage grows and the adoption of bitcoin grows a number of use cases that were utilizing for bitcoin grows. We're going to need different layers. That have these features. That are optimized for the specificity of the use case. And that's something that's talked about a bit more in other protocols that are newer and i've had an opportunity to learn from watching what's happened in bitcoin but i think it's been interesting to observe you know i'm in many people's minds we really don't ever think about the amount of bandwidth we're consuming or the cost of connectivity to the core protocol which were interacting and in many ways the way i think about bitcoin For the first time in human history we have a way to price computing activity. There is a very real price that you have to pay prioritize transactions in the meme pool and so in my view. It's actually like an internet interesting. Crossover pardon between some of the concepts around Computing connectivity and how rodham topologies work with money. Right you're basically punching routing policy using transaction fees and and money effectively that allow you to sort of create specificity in terms of what layer of the stack on operate without compromising the security guarantees of the coin and again is nick described. There are inevitably going to be trade-offs but we've observed so far as we look at. The proliferation of bitcoin is an asset across other chains. Whether that's in the form of rap. Bitcoin or other assets is people really do want to have the security. Guarantees of bitcoin is an asset. But they want to have the ability to adopt some of the parameters around how they're utilizing the network security guarantees of their transactions particularly lower few transactions perhaps being able to deploy smart contracts or a more complex as sort of logic that maybe isn't as easy to deploy bitcoin script. So i think that's very important the other piece. I'll just quickly add that. I think is really important since this conference is about developers developers developers. Tomorrow on cnn. Steve ballmer if you remember. His famous developers developers developers speech is electric capital puts out this great report on and it just came out. It's their state of the developer ecosystem report and one of the interesting observations. They have is there. A low more developers in other protocols than there are in bitcoin because bitcoin is notoriously hard to develop with and building a robust grasp of bitcoin. Core protocol takes much longer than perhaps some of these other protocols which was scripted in more familiar languages and have different types of logic. That's more intuitive to say like javascript developers or other developer communities that are much larger. So what. I think also been interesting to observe. We have this in the legacy financial system. The entire legacy financial system is built on. Something called coble right. Which is this archaic programming language. Like most people know coble really really well are probably over the age of sixty because they were designing corporate systems must seventies so there's actually really interesting technological risk that exists in our core financial system and our poor financial applications in that the group of people who know and really understanding our experts in kabul are gonna be retiring in the next ten years right so it's created this tremendous amount of pressure on the banking sector to replace some of these core banking systems. That were built fifty sixty years ago because there is a real risk of technological obsolescence not having enough talented people to step into those roles. And i started. See the same thing. Happening in in crypto. Right there aren't necessarily tens of thousands of the coin developers out there who can build really robust highly secure layers on top of bitcoin. And so it's been really interesting to see what's been happening in the sack seacoast system and i'm really excited about milan. Tax may not. Because i think one of the really important Designed space constraints that we have to get through is the fact that the bitcoin developer communities just inherently much smaller than other developer communities because the level of knowledge required is very specific amount of time it takes to become really proficient in bitcoin and to understand all of the nuances of y bitcoin. Core way does prior bibs the history of fly. Certain things are good. Ideas are bad. Ideas takes a long time. Like i'm seven years in. And i still know nothing neck. I don't know how you feel about that. But that's where i think. Layer twos can be helpful in improving extensive ability. Because you don't necessarily require a bunch of people to become incredibly proficient. Bitcoin core through layer. Tuesday can now introduce other programming. Language that really broaden the developer ecosystem and allow people from other ecosystems to be able to build on top of bitcoin without necessarily needing to go through that learning curve on that you otherwise would but again. It's just interesting to me that that's also married and legacy finance for like bank search shitting themselves because all their best. Cobo people are leaving and they don't have anyone to replace on so sort of an interesting parallel at least for me. I think it's it's

"So I do wonder about that the tax bill man. I mean to put in a contract right eighty million dollars for Uber a the salary cap is $109 million, you're talking about almost an entire team's season-long payroll potentially wage being spent on 1 player when you add in the contract and the tax belt that is Bonkers, especially in a season where you're not going to have all of the fans in the stadium. I mean credit to the Warriors I guess for being able to take that that chance but this is the kind of risk where people say, you know, big Market small Market doesn't matter. This is a situation where yeah, it does because the Utah Jazz are not making this move. That's not that's not going to happen. But the Deep Pockets and nobody else it matters. Yeah, probably no one else is doing this maybe the Clippers. I mean that's football movie million dollars for Steve ballmer's you know, I mean, he sneezes and sneezes that much. Yeah, it's you know, I will say to you there's a couple of things, you know, the Warriors bench as a little especially that's where who's in Thompson hurts. Cuz even if they had added hoober even without officer or even with Thompson, he would have been a really nice bench piece some pressure on Andrew Wiggins to be heal better than what Andrew Wiggins has been in his career. I think he's got it in on my truck was looking forward to seeing him as clearly like the fourth guy on a team now now he's probably more the third guy so we'll see what he can do, but they they need some bench up. I really like crackle. I think he's really good. You know, I think he's going to be pretty good. I'm off their bench. But yeah, then it's Bazemore want to make her Kevon Looney, you know, if he's healthy. They've got some guys who can do the job. Stuff but and you don't need guys to do a ton if Steph is Steph and Jerry mom is Draymond. You're probably okay. But yeah and they were kind of interesting just you know, kind of roster Court they were the only team that had no free agents on their team coming in because they had everybody signed on their roster going into this offseason and then they added and you go clearly.

Um, it's just the field is so tough and it's just not how it works. Even if you're willing to spend that's just I mean, look at the Yankees. Right. A week or a month after the Cubs win the World Series in 2016, right, and it ain't looking good. We wouldn't want it three or 4 17 18 1920. Not gonna win next year. No, I'll sell it, but so we'll see what he is. Owners come in. There's enthusiasm, but we saw Steve Ballmer's a great owner hasn't even made a fine, so it's It's not easy to do. But I do think they I think there's a reason for Mets fans to be more hopeful. Certainly Alex Cora was also reintroduced in Boston yesterday and sounded a lot like a J. Now that tension Cora have returned to the bench, and, of course, the players were not punished by herself. Beltran will find his way to a managerial gig. By this time next year. I think he will actually buy because you just laid out for us how this is the pattern. And before this, Beltran was one of the most well respected former players in baseball, beloved at multiple stops. Yeah, he's got a lot of political capital out there and let's end with a little Tiger Woods. "Up on today's podcast tech and the platform that's finally got adults talking tick tock tech stocks have been on a tear salesforce Microsoft and facebook all hit record highs this week. But leading the charge apple last Friday I will lead over ten percent in one day yesterday the stock closed at an all time high and now apple is just a few percentage points away from hitting a two trillion dollars market cap the golden number to get it there four, hundred, sixty, seven dollars and seventy seven cents a share. And it looks like apple wine this milestone before it's order one stock split goes into effect at the end of this month. The other companies in the headlines? This Week tiktok beloved by teems commonly misunderstood adults, and now a chesapeake in international business and diplomacy. Here's injury Ross Mark and we've been talking TIKTOK and Microsoft and all of what's happening in Washington. Eunice Yoon reporting now that it's not just Microsoft but to other tech firms that are in talks with Tik Tok owner by dance over a possible sale in president trump said yesterday, he was ready to approve a purchase of the US operations tiktok. But then he said the only woman to do it if the government receives a lot of money in exchange listen to this. Microsoft or somebody else who was the Chinese? What what the price is the United States could should get a very large percentage of that price because we're making it possible without us you know I use the expression it's like the landlord and the tenant. And without the lease the tenant doesn't have the value what we're sort of in a certain way the lease we make it possible to have this great success, tick toxic tremendous success, but a big portion of its in this country. Sale? Yeah. Whatever the number is, would it would come from the civil on Wall Street banker problems. By the way they call that tipping the waiter, but I don't think we've ever tipped the government for transaction president trump said he told Microsoft's CEO that a very substantial portion of the price is going to have to come into the treasury of the United States because quote or making it possible for this deal to happen I was on the phone by the way with. The people involved in this transaction deal teams on all sides who heard that yesterday. Couldn't really even make. Heads or tails of what the president was saying how. Would you hey the government what would that look like could there be a formulation where ultimately you come to some kind of transactional agreement and then you announce that you're making some kind of infrastructure investment in the in the United States who you're going to create some kind of jobs I'm literally, this is the conversation that's happening inside the room among these companies. If we created some companies without yesterday we got to it. It's what did you say? I. Heard it reported yesterday when I first started reporter yesterday I thought he's just saying this stuff off the cuff he doesn't really mean it. Then I saw what he actually said I thought wow, he does mean it. I don't even know how you could possibly as somebody WHO's working on this deal come up with anything that makes any sense and Steve Ballmer Steve Balmer was with us yesterday and said as a shareholder as the top shareholder Microsoft he would love to see this deal get done at the right price. Gets an exciting proposition for Microsoft. obviously depends on the price. Price is important as well as whatever restrictions come from a government perspective but I think it's an exciting avenue for Microsoft to really increase its consumer base. I don't know how you figure out any sort of pricing right pricing when you have to then go in and add some significant number on top that you'd be paying to the US Treasury. Well, what are they? Going to happen is because this is a bit of evaluation game. And I hate to say, we're going to be using trump valuation but I think that what's going to happen is they're going to effectively. Create a higher valuation for the overall business. Then kind of create something where they can say we're giving you something and that bite dance is giving it. That's the other important part of the view at least from what I understand Turnley among these groups is that the money has to come out of China not out of a US company. So you're going to have to make it appear whatever that whatever it is that you're giving to appear that China's not getting part of that's because Peter Navarro and others don't frankly want US money. Ten twenty thirty billion forty billion dollars ending up in the hands of China for the. So there's so many sort of China. has already weighed in. On this today that China has weighed in on this today through some of the states that media where they are saying that you know the US is basically stealing us and trying to do take off with this that it's a rogue nation now at this point. So the idea that you are going to come up with something that satisfies the trump administration and at the same time satisfies the communist government in China Good luck with that I mean this is they're going to get caught in between the two the two with this because even though China may not. Necessarily, be looking for some of the same angles. It's not going to say, okay, it's okay for the US to come out looking like this and stealing our company and don't worry about it. CEO of Tiktok you know or bite dance don't worry about it. We'll live with that sort of a kind of a slap in the face. To all this stuff we're talking about it. Sorry Andrew it. It overshadows the the lead of the story right and that's that there are possibly other suitors for the US. Of tiktok, we we we talked yesterday Andrew about well, maybe media companies would be interested in this property. Now, you know the the wording here that that we use her that Eunice was reporting was other tech offense, which which makes it even more interesting and who these other tech companies. May Be an at. Are they based in the US or are they elsewhere? It would be very I. I would imagine it would be very hard for Google or Amazon or an apple etc to try to buy this company given the anti-trust pressures on them, I. Think my understanding was that the White House preferred that liked the Microsoft choice from a regulatory perspective. So it's all very interesting by the way the other piece of this is the part I. Really don't understand if you're apple today, you know we're talking about this two trillion dollars market cap that keeps going up and up and up. Given. Given. The China risks now now, maybe look they foxconn supplying hundreds of thousands of people if not more than are making these phone so maybe they can't just say to Tim. Cook. Good luck to you but I would think there would be risk if we do this to a Tiktok what kind of a backlash reciprocal. Backlash is China going to have for some US companies doing business there? That's the part I don't understand say knock built into any of the. It it's it's no different than the same conversations we were having during the depths of the trade war. Right? We had these same conversations. We push too hard if the tariffs are to punitive companies are companies like apple, the ones that are going to face the pushback or the retaliation in some way and I think it's fair to say that that that never really came back to these two tech companies I mean, she didn't say where those tech companies were based and and I wonder what the US would do that if if it was being pursued by a company, another technology company based in China but not based in the United States either how would Sylvia's see something like that and would they still threaten to turn off the the APP in the United States if it was not a US company?

Coronavirus Impact on the Food Industry: Cameron Mitchell Restaurants CEO

"Joining us right now on the topic of small business and what he's seeing is Cameron Mitchell. He's the founder and CEO of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, which owns nearly sixty establishments across the United States and Cameron. It's great to see you. It's been a while since we've spoken good morning break plagiary back with you today. So. The first time we talked to you was in the midst of the shutdown when all of your restaurants had been closed down and you laid out a plan for what you were hoping to see. Two weeks ago on March third, I was in Washington DC to meet with my bankers and I expressed them what a great start year we had were up seven percent same store sales record profitability for the first two months of the year. This was March third tomorrow I believe March Eighteenth we will be completely shut down I laid off forty, two hundred people on Monday. The last time we talked to you things we're looking pretty good business was was back and was booming. I think we're going to survive, but it's going to be a while before we get to the hospital we expect to be open in hopefully back to full employment by the end of June or into or end of July somewhere in that neighborhood. So what's happening right now? The best way equate it to is we're in a hurricane in the first. Landfall, the hurricane was back in March fifteenth and. It was is detrimental as it was terrible. It's was We end up getting the money and we're able to get out and get open and it was a lifeline. We would not be here today if it wasn't for the original P P P loan and June came and sales, we're doing pretty good. We're about seventy five percent of last year sales were feeling very optimistic and and when I came to realize is we are really just in the eye of the storm and then July the beginning July head and and the case counts rising. Across the country and met, metropolitan. Areas Rolling back opening guidelines and in further restrictions on our business and sales fell down to now fifty percent of last year and that is just not sustainable. So here we are today you know August second and I feel just as nervous about the future as I did back in the beginning of March when Corona virus was coming over the horizon. So we're looking for a second round of P P P to help us get through the other side and and help us sustain for the future so. And the thing that we're hearing mostly Congress is about the stimulus checks, the unemployment but there are thousands and thousands of businesses like ours out there in the country they're hurting terribly at fifty percent decline a forty percent decline sales we cannot survive. We're losing between five, hundred thousand and a million dollars a month, and we need the additional P P P dolorous in a in a terrible way and you know the the curb puzzle is for a two million dollar cap on that which. last time was ten million dollars and so for a company like ours and many others that reduction of eight million dollars just when we need it, the most is is very difficult for us. Camera now is the decline in your business coming mostly because states or local municipalities have have forced you to not open as much into close things down or much of the decline is coming from people who Are, afraid to go out what and how would you measure that a difference while it's both clearly when you have a reduction in capacity from use spell. Example Beverly Hills we were closed all restaurants California closed for indoor. New York City we were not allowed to open our whole restaurant that was just for the Patio Philadelphia. We're not allowed to open that was got rolled back from August I now to September first. So some of our businesses are not even open yet So but the main driver of that reduction of sales is the increase case cow corona virus around the country and people becoming more and more nervous about going to restaurants even though there's no science dates that that says inherently restaurants, Kobe case outbreaks, her Dr Been Driven by restaurants seating. Indoor and outdoor see. Cameron. What? What are you doing in terms of your relationship with your landlords? particularly in some of those places, the restaurants haven't even reopened yet. Are you getting any forgiveness or any easing of things from them? Well, that's the thing becky you know we had almost all of our landlords help out in some way or another not all but some or most they should say, but that money is just a simple deferral that's So we have an additional three, million dollars we got deferred in. April May and June but that money has to be paid back over various schedules over the next two years. That's just additional debt on the balance sheet, and we come out of this without P P p. one of the things cameras restaurants we built three or four restaurants a year, and if we're saddled with millions of dollars debt if and when we get out of this I don't see a building an aiding the economic rebound in the country in Twenty One and twenty two point further were saddled with all this debt. What have you heard from the the senators you've spoken with on this? I've spoken. Personally to both are centers in the state of Ohio and. They understand our plate and and but I, think they're. All. The negotiation right now over the six hundred, a week stimulus for unemployment benefits. So I don't think it's getting much attention that it needs right now and I hope by the time we get this bill and some sort of agreement between both parties on this bill that we can get this P P P round two stimulus, which has one hundred and ninety billion dollars earmarked for it, which should be more than enough for these companies passed the stress test that show they actually needed. To keep with the original PCP levels P P one camera I want to thank you for the update We we have to check in with you again soon, but we appreciate your time and wish you good

Microsoft, TikTok officials in White House talks to prevent total ban

"Tiktok is a short form video social media platform, extremely popular with Gen, Z. and millennials during the global pandemic the APP outpaced instagram in of download eating the two billion mark back in April. If you know any teens or adults lockdown and board, you're probably familiar with the platform. Tick Tock has over two hundred, million users us but it's owned by Chinese company Bite Dance, which is where most of the political drama begins United States Secretary of State. Mike Pompeo has consistently voiced concerns about the APPS ties to the Chinese government back in July he lumped Tiktok in with wall way in terms of national security. We are now evaluating each instance where we believe that US citizens data that they have on their phones or in their system or in their healthcare records. We want to make sure that the Chinese Communist Party doesn't have a way to easily access that president trump this weekend suggested banning the APP in the US. We're looking at Tick Tock we may be banning talk. We may be doing some other things that are a couple of options. And Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has confirmed that the department's Committee on foreign. In. The US is reviewing tiktok citing. National. Security concerns, he spoke to ABC over the weekend. I do chair Syfy, which is the committee on Foreign Investment on the United States I've said publicly that it's under review I will say publicly that the entire committee agrees that Tiktok cannot stay in the current format exit risks sending back information on a hundred million Americans. Amid, Washington's focus on national security Microsoft announced that it made by tick tock or at least part of it. Over the weekend the tech giant confirmed that it's in talks to acquire the tick Tock Business in Iraq Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and then it's working with the government deal.

nine point three KPCC welcome to the frame I'm John horn in what was a surprise to no one the organizers of Tokyo's summer Olympics have postponed the games to twenty twenty one the decision follows the cancellation of pretty much every other live sporting event that's a problem not only for people like me who love sports on TV but also for the networks and cable channels that rely on sports to get viewers and sell advertising NBC universal which has the rights to the Tokyo games has said that it had sold about ninety percent of its advertising time for the summer Olympics worth about one point two five billion dollars look at shock covers media and entertainment for Bloomberg Lucas welcome back to the shop thanks for having me jump so let's step back for a moment broadcast and cable networks spend billions of dollars to get the rights to live sports everything from basketball to cricket I'm not kidding Disney star sports paid two and a half billion dollars for rights to Indian premier league cricket not long ago and now they have nothing to show for it right how much are they losing you know it's too early to know just how much they're losing because a lot of these networks and sports leagues are still operating under the assumption that these events will happen at some point so in case of the Olympics one of the topics that I'm trying to get to the bottom of and I know some of my colleagues and peers are as well as how exactly the contracts work with those financial commitments you know if you are one of the advertisements that is committed that one point two five billion dollar total are you still committing for the games in twenty twenty one you have the ability to back out and be allocate that money there's a lot of uncertainty in the advertising market place right now because you see the most popular type of programming on television which is sports not being on for anytime in the next three months four months maybe six months we don't really know how long they have a lot of advertising some of whom just can't advertise right now because you know if you're a hotel chain if you're a restaurant you're probably not going to a bunch of advertising or if you want to advertise to them shifted to news which is what a lot of people are watching but is sometimes a little tough from an advertising perspective you shift it online or you just sit it out for awhile so what are people who rely on sports doing I mentioned Disney and it's cricket deal it has theme park shut down is cruise ships are dry docked its movies can't play in theaters and on top of all that it owns ESPN which used to just print money for Disney so water sports channels like ESPN doing outside of the Olympics because they don't really have much to show we're talk about other highlight shows yes sports networks like ESPN Fox Sports one they're repairing a lot of old games you know if you look at the the Fox Sports schedule for today I believe it's a bunch of college basketball and ESPN's case to going back to some of the documentaries that they've made like the OJ Simpson made in America which was not aboard winning truly excellent documentary or they're just trying to put together stance if you will you know yes the end turn yes you have to enter the Ocho which was initially made famous by the movie dodgeball it's sort of this joke about his different exports but they were showing marble rolling I pulled up Twitter the other day and I saw that there was there was pizza box holding so it's a mix but the the viewership for all the shows is is way way down for these networks of shifting to other places and and sports fans there are having to look elsewhere you know the amount of people in the amount of time being spent streaming video on Netflix Disney plus Hulu Amazon YouTube is way up the amount of time people are spending playing video games is also locked you know how that all evens out is is a bit unclear but it's a it's a big problem moving forward for for ESPN for foster Turner because they have no relief coming anytime soon the next real events on the cat Allender is college football and pro football in the fall and and who knows where we'll be asked in terms of what the Olympic organizers were facing and it felt like there were a couple of issues and one was the health of the athletes but also whether not athletes could even trained if for example you were a volleyball player I can't imagine you would want to be in a gym working out with your volleyball team maybe if you did solo sailing you'd be okay but was that part of the factor that the athletes themselves we're not training for the games yeah it's not as simple as well just the crude these athletes for three or four months and then we'll show up at the end of July and you can sort of turn the mom like it's an oven or something these these athletes are spending days weeks months leading up to the event getting in the best shape of their lives doing kind of final practice runs and that's why we started to see you know this this postponement felt inevitable not just because other events have been postponed because you saw different teams in the country said why are we going for but this this makes no sense you had two of the biggest contingents of U. S. I believe both women in track and field say before was postponed that they didn't think it was a good idea to move forward and what will that mean for the twenty twenty one games I guess in some ways some athletes have a very narrow window where they are at their peak and also might actually generate pent up demand to make could the twenty twenty one games if they happen to be even bigger than N. B. C. might have had if the games were going on this summer you know that is one of the big questions that I think people across the media and entertainment landscape are debating right now right so if you have all of the sports that you're not showing all these movies that you're not showing will there be that had dumped the man for it in six months and twelve months if so how do you space out this backlog you know pretty much every movie that's coming up is unlikely to be released in movie theaters this summer all the sporting events from the spring and summer we push for the fall winter in and beyond and so how do you schedule that now All Things Considered that's a good problem to have at that point these events can happen and there is pent up demand well we don't know how that will shake out we're talking with Lucas Shaw Bloomberg about the cancellation of the summer Olympics if you look at movie theaters at least the stock of movie theater companies their share prices have been cratering how soon will we know what kind of impact the lack of sports has had on broadcast and cable networks when will it start to reveal itself in terms of quarterly earnings mid April to mid may of the media companies Netflix is usually the first company to report and they reclined reported earnings in the second and third week of April but for some of these companies the effect may be so significant that they have to let you know before that usually if there's an event that is materially affecting your results you tried to warn investors ahead of time so they're not surprised and so company like Disney which is obviously you know that there are people going to theme parks are people going to movie theaters they might make some kind of disclosure in early April ahead of its earnings report which is more likely to be late April early may so my two kids have been watching a lot of two series Sunderland till I die.

A and b when you pass up about two hundred five million the two hundred and seven million from Steve Ballmer and the Los Angeles Clippers when you're pass up that amount of money to walk away and go to play with James harden, you walk away from Doc Rivers. I got news for you. That's a problem. So Chris Paul's got come back. He wanted to tell you how Houston must be feeling Houston. Let's call it. What it is. They don't give a damn where Chris Paul things right now. I'm gonna tell you why. Did you consult with them when you decided to let go of mellow? No. Oh, by the way. Did you consult with them when you brought Austin rivers on the team Austin rivers. I like Austin rivers. Chris Paul did it according to reports. He like goes the rivers. Let me take that back calling reports I'm telling you he didn't like Austin rivers. Wada, probably yeah. With Doc Rivers in Austin rivers with the clippers when I was that altercation in the locker room and stuff like that. That was about Austin rivers and Chris Paul trying to go at it. And Houston Rockets brought Austin rivers there. When Chris Paul went down in a way. What that says to be as Chris Paul got to get healthy, Chris Paul gas? It has to get back on the court. And he's gotta help James hotter, which I have no doubt. He will do Chris Boyle healthy Houston Rockets is going to be there. I think the only team standing in their way would be go to state. The problem is I don't think he'll stay healthy. And I hope I'm wrong because I don't against them. I got love for Chris Paul, but not as much love for him as I got his family, wonderful, wonderful family, his brother siege as good people as dad and his mom loved the Paul family differ, nominal love them. Just saw his dad at the Cowboys Ramsgate gave him a big hug love Mr. poll. He's the real deal. Chris Paul if he's healthy, he healthy healthy is nothing. You can do about that. But if he's healthy, he's got the show out because if he doesn't you can't ask James harden, the handle all of this by himself and expect the championship from that. That's not right. He's only human. I don't know how much more James harden..
