"To probably ever play in your certain position ever. Not just D line, but the way he played that detox will technique and that's helpful to defense. Nobody in football history's done it better to warrant that. Brush up, show up like something, man. Like Martin said, you know, show up like I'm a Hall of Famer Super Bowl champion. National champion university of Miami type guy. We will have an opportunity to see Jerry again. The forty-niners will have a legend on their side Sunday and Philadelphia has Hall of Fame. Our receiver Jerry Rice will serve as an honorary captain. Oh, wow. So I'm interested now, now I'm going to want to see what he's wearing being that you just said that. Rice in his career, 5 at all against the eagles. Seems completely irrelevant to this moment. As it seemed particularly relevant, it's told the irrelevant as Yahoo article about. Brian Dawkins will be there for the eagles. So there you go. We'll talk about a monster as safety, man. Wow, Brian Dawkins, man. Jesus. Just back to Micah real quick. When we start comparing, that's what gets under my skin. You guys act like you forgotten what we've seen in the type of players. Is there safety in the league right now that was better than Brian Dawkins? Tell me right now, if there is safety in the NFL right now that starts 32 safeties, you get to pick from. That was better than Brian Dawkins. So don't tell me there's another Troy polamalu. Don't tell me there's another and Ed Reed. Don't tell me there's another Ronnie lott, another Steve atwater. Guys, there's not. There's not even a brain Dawkins in the NFL. It's how the hell is there another Troy? I'm sorry, that just gets me, man. You know, they got you boy, you funga. You just a hair. That's what they say. It's the hair. And I guess Paula malu, mentored him, and I guess taught him the game of football. But

You know kind of scrolling through all the articles background on the fact that you've got Three three Broncos being inducted to a pro football hall of fame steve. Atwater will be inducted on saturday. Night followed by paint and manning and john lynch on sunday night but i loved the take of not ryan o'halloran in the denver post so many people to acknowledge. Thank an honor. He writes and so little time to do so ever since they were elected to the pro football hall of fame. The last two. February's former bronco's steve atwater peyton manning and john lynch have spent hours. Can you imagine trying to encapsulate years of playtime and memories into an eight minutes speech as they are inducted into the pro football hall of fame this weekend all of this to be delivered on a stage and can't know oh where would you begin. "Come on with the 33rd Pick in 2021 NFL Draft. Jacksonville Jaguars Select Taison Campbell, BB. Georgia. So Tyson Campbell That was Kevin Hardy, the former first round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tyson Campbell, cornerback at a Georgia 611 95 that he is the second Defensive back selected this far from the University of Georgia. You talk about Alabama. They had six players in the first round yesterday. Um and if there's one team that I think from an athletic standpoint Is best suited to be able to compete against Alabama year in and year out. That would be Georgia. The team that is, I mean, you got a bunch of a bunch of athletes on both sides of the ball. Absolutely. And, you know, I think that, you know, look at it. Look at the highlight film right here. You could just see the way he reads quarterback's eyes breaks on the football. I love him as the DB pick here, obviously, Herb, you know, getting out there needs to needs to overhaul that defense and they need ball hawks out there. So I'm happy that they got the player they were one night for after all the offense from Clemson yesterday. That one of the fastest cornerbacks in the draft and Jacksonville got a good player. Let's jump ahead. Jets are on the clock. Ah, Ben's thought Here is the Jets may in fact moved back. Let's let's jump ahead here in the second round the Broncos right now with the 40th overall pick Aziz. We sit here now. Still with what seven picks leading up to Denver's selection of the second round. What are some of the thoughts you guys have in terms of what the Broncos might be looking at? Well, I don't know. Probably go defense again here. Honestly, they could look at Jeremiah will score more out of Notre Dame. If he happens to slip down there. There's a guy that most people expected to go in. The teens like travel a lot, and he's probably a safety, but he could again. Play up. There is a linebacker. They haven't pinned here is an inside linebacker. I I'm a tackling machine. I mean, he's an intense dude and I He's a tone setter, and that's exactly what he be brought in. So if he continues to slip here, no doubt great pick for the Broncos if he could get there to 40. Gets have three minutes on the clock to make their selection. The Jets then will be followed by the Atlanta Falcons. Uh, the fourth pick in the second round. Goes to the Miami Dolphins in it in a trade deal with Houston. Fifth pick is Philadelphia six. Cincinnati seventh is Carolina. That's the 39th overall selection and then the eighth pick of the second round is the Denver Broncos Jets. Looking at something on the NFL network have not won the F C East since 2000 and two. Yeah, they're not trading out here to they've been fielding offers all day. But I think I believe they are going to make the pick, actually, so I don't have the pick in front of you just yet, But I will tell you. I think they're gonna stick here make the pick. I'd like to see the Broncos go running back Electra Vontae Williams. He probably will be there that was talking to Steve Atwater before he went on the air. And Steve had him as the second best running back in the draft. I think you'd be a nice addition to the Broncos offense. We? We think we've we've cleared up our technical difficulties with Alfred Williams, now Alcon years. I can hear you. Okay? We got you. Good. Good. So let me go back to my initial question with some of the guys here. What? What were your retrospectively looking back at the first round that we did. Last night. What were two of your biggest surprises? Well, maybe the biggest surprise was Aaron Rodgers News that he wants to be traded and made it public. Maybe that started Ah, frenzy like we haven't seen on draft day in a long time. I think that when you consider what that could have done the franchises yesterday That was the biggest news of the day, followed by trade. Lance going number three. I mean, you're talking about a guy who has the least amount of throws of any quarterback in the history of the NFL draft to go in the first round. That's right, and certainly we could talk about the The intellect. We could talk about the the size. We could talk about the youth that he has. He's only 20 years old. But when you consider that a guy who hasn't played a lot of college football has not thrown a lot of passes plays at a new FCS school going number three. Certainly that's gotta make you shake your head a little bit and say well, What's that all about? You know, that's what I mean. I am. You can only make that selection. If you have a six year contract, and both John Lynch and College Shanahan have six year contracts Jets pick is in been what he got. The Jets were gonna take wide receiver Elijah more out of old Miss my wife I would receive before in this class. They denied a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, who are trying to get up to get a corner. I believe to be Asante Samuel. So just a heads up on that. I love this pick a larger, more great slot receiver and I'm a hunter said this guy, I would have absolutely taken a risk on the first round. I know Ben. I know that Big Al's a big canary is Tony guy, but I like Elijah Moore Way better. Well, if you're talking about a guy that's that's really slight. You know, I'm saying, I'm the smaller that you get in this league. The more chances of injury that you have, so Tony is a God has built more like a running back then he has a wide receiver. Everybody's looking for the Tyree kill. Tony is Tyree Kill. We'll find out. We'll find out about that one thing, l said in terms of Trey Lance, the From a first round standpoint has thrown fewer passes than any first round quarterback and draft history. Pro Bono Elijah more wide.

It's kind of a I have a weird weekend, but otherwise I think you know, I'm ready for a right tight Broncos with everybody want monitoring the Nuggets game by the way, currently down to the Boston Celtics, even though Nicole Yokich is going off, he's having a heck of a night, but it is not enough. And unfortunately, it does not look good, but we'll monitor the game. We'll let you know how that goes tonight on the program. We're gonna have Steve Atwater, the Steve Atwater. He's going to join us. I asked him to scout Kayla Farley says he basically has mocked to the Broncos in like every mock draft, right and 5% of the marks out there, So I asked him to take a look at Caleb Farley. And so he's going to give us his breakdown. You Are kind of just so so on, Farley. Yeah, I know people down on past retain Junior, but I'm a lot higher on him that other people and sir table fit the scheme. He's a guy. I know the Broncos do, actually, like, so what? We'll see. Um, I think the Broncos country back out of nine. Still pick up, Sir Tan. And get some additional draft capital to roll forward in the next year. If the lock thing doesn't work out, Okay, so we're no good. I'm looking forward, Steve. You know, good friend of the show sound every week on that kind of stuff. He's fantastic. Yeah, forget what he says. We'll talk to him here in a matter of moments. If you always feel like you're just sort of dropping little things in there and me like you could. You could never would never do that. We're going to also talk to Cody Rourke with locked on Broncos and pro football network. He had Ian Rappaport on his Broadcast yesterday and Malik read today so we'll talk to about those conversations are really good stuff from rap port that we definitely get to as relates to the Broncos. What he thinks about your fate. And he thinks about the Broncos quarterback situation all that, so we'll get to that. And plus bringing crystal a little later on. I'll start out though. I mean, I thought, you know, First of all I want to say that we're obviously thrilled to be on the air here with you guys, as always. And you know, we're gonna try to. Ah, bring you as much information and I don't know as little toxicity is is humanly possible and of people calling us along on Twitter, and we definitely appreciate it all the positive sentiments that were sent our way and we echo those back because this is this community has been fantastic for us with us the entire time, But you know, for us right now. You know, the focus remains on trying to put together a really good show and give you guys as much information as possible. So you guys could be as close to your team as possible, Right? I mean, it's this what we do here. Gross. People are gross. Leave that stuff on Twitter just blocked the move on. I'm you know, I got sucked into some stuff this weekend. And you know that's on me When they go low. I shouldn't go lower. That's that's really what it is so end of the day. Like, just, you know, like to block those clowns and move on. That's that's what they are. You know, I just I don't have not gonna do that. We're not gonna do the you know, pretend toe tolerate the opinions of losers anymore. Welcome and move on, Okay? And with that we are moving on. We're gonna get to the report from Michael Lombardi. That was a sort of shaking down Twitter over the course of the day about the Broncos quarterback. It was kind of on the heels. Of the report from Toni Pauline with pro football network and so let's Let's go ahead, Start there. And then I'll play the sound for you because I think it kind of gives the large sound. Yeah, he was on he was on with Pat McAfee. And it was, oh, by the way kind of thing. I'll tell you everything about this place down. I'll tell you everything about this. It was done was so weird like he just sort of casually dropped in the other Broncos. You almost made a trade last week for a quarterback, But you know whatever. This is business. They didn't. But it's little study. Are you all right? So this is this is only the portion way took out all the Raiders stuff in there Because the Niners doesn't apply. It doesn't apply. So this is this is Michael Lombardi talking to Pat McAfee about the Broncos quarterback situation. Then they've been rumored to be talking to a lot of teams about quarterbacks. I thought they were going to make a trade last week for a quarterback and one of the team's back down. I don't know quite how that happened. But I think the Broncos will be very aggressive. Like the hope Station about Trulock being the guys over. What was that? Well, you just referred to there was a trade that was about to be made last week and then a team. But I thought there was some action on Denver truck was going to trade for a quarterback that I think that whether it was West and they say they're not interested in went where there was somebody I don't know quite who it was, but they were getting position to trade for somebody and and it just didn't go through. So I think my point here is San Francisco and Denver are both secretly active looking for quarterback. Okay, so there's a lot to unpack there. Let's start with the back and work our way to the front. First of all, nobody. Neither of those two teams is secret in the fact that they've called around about quarterbacks. At all. There's literally no secret whatsoever. Um de Broncos were not almost involved in a trade last week. It didn't happen, And it's kind of weird that he thinks that there was the training like I heard there was some action, not a trade, but he can't name the quarterback or the team or any of that. He can't figure out any of that. So then he said it like fell through, right, And then he tried to go in the second time. You phrased it was like he heard from the Broncos side, which I did tell you didn't happen. Mike Lombardi got fired here in Denver for not having any information. He was literally consultant for this team is His designation, and his job was to get information around the league and give it back to Mike Shanahan. And my fired him because he had no information. So there you go. A Zafar as the rest of that goes. None of that is accurate, literally. None of it. Um well, okay. I'm gonna different with you on one part because the Broncos are rumored to be in on quarterback. So called around about everything but for me, and this is, I guess where the verb Ege Bothers me. Sure. The Broncos are not in on quarterbacks because they haven't made an offer. If you haven't made an offer you're not in. They didn't make any kind of counter it all to the The Lions would've called Yeah, I mean, they had a bit of a new offer in there. I mean, like, that's what I'm saying, Like the report from the body makes it sound like they had all their you know their here aggressively pursuing all this. Now they're just making calls to getting prices. There's a difference between making calls and getting prices and making offers making offers. His aggressive making calls is something of responsible general managers just do anyway due diligence, right so that that's the part that bothers me is like the verb Ege there. You know, it's trying to make it sound more salacious than it is. And now his name gets Out there. He gets a ton of runoff that everybody quotes it. Wrong. Report exists, you know, And this is what happens Well, okay, Let me ask you about this because it is on the heels of Tony Pauline's report from pro football network that the Broncos are Looking to move on from Drew lock. You kind of have to back to back reports now and and I think we all we talked about this on the Broncos country tonight. TV show a little bit and you can check that out. By the way. BRONCOS YouTube channel. We talked about how It depends on who I think you talked to at times because the thing is is is it's not 100% support behind locked right now because he hasn't earned that, like the the fact remains.

So the Bronco's make every effort to acquire is Shawn Watson and the guys that's going to help us out with that is another than Hall of Famers Steve Atwater. We like to call him the honorable Steve Atwater. Well in this program now I heard from sources. That Ryan Edwards was trying to maybe Caries and favor with the judge, using like some reverse psychology tactics earlier today that he may be called the judge tell you about that when he tried to pull on me sources per sources Yeah. Yeah. E run. That's not gonna work, man. He's like those you're gonna side with being but, uh, e mean. You know what you hear? Do that Doesn't that just, you know, Ryan must not have very much confidence in his argument. If he's gotta feels the need to do underhanded stuff like that, I I've always been aboveboard. I've always been a guy that would never never do. Something is low down and dirty is is trying to get an advantage like that. You're doing it right now, Like Right now, like ridiculous. Oh, I owned up to it. I owned up to it because I didn't intentionally go into it with that mindset. But then, as the words were coming out of my mouth, I realized shortly thereafter Yes, I was. I was trying to curry favor and sort of. Ah Alternate path. And you know, some reverse psychology did not work in my favor, So I'm sorry, Your Honor. I will. I will You want me to say no, No, no, I'm not going to go with me. And I'm gonna go with you this time, huh? Yeah, we're onto his game. We're on. Broncos Ring of Famer Hall of Famer Steve the stuff that came down over the weekend with Matt Stafford. Going to the L. A Rams. Couple of first round picks. Future first round picks the third round pick and Jared Goff, What do you think about that deal? Well, uh, the Rams feel like they got them themselves a deal. I don't know if I would have made that deal, but you know, with them in their situation, I could see why they would do that. Because you know they have a team that Raise the wind right now and you know they have a bunch of great players on that team. They got a great coaching staff and you know that they have opportunity to compete for championship next year and Uh, you know that. I guess they feel like the only thing missing was the quarter bag. Um, and you know, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. They came up, you know, more than I think they should have given up. Um, but, hey, you know what? We'll see. They got some smart mines in that room. So, uh, you know, Like like you're always around. We'll see. What did you think about the Broncos rolling that, though, because the Bronco's did dip their toe a bit in this trade process. Yeah, well, I'm sure the Broncos are probably trying to Kind of see what's available. You know what's a good fit and was not a good fit. Um, To be honest with you. I'm not sure that I would have wanted to mortgage our future. Uh, Put that transaction for him to come here either. Now they do. We need some quarterback competition. Absolutely. But you know, t have to give away first rounders and that I'm just I'm not for that. I'm for You know, building this team do the draft but still making sure we have somebody to compete with you locked this year. Somebody that's gonna push him make him better. And, uh, you know, we were so confident if somebody goes down that day, the guy that's backing him up. You come in, and you know he can even be a bona fide player for us and win some games. What do you think? It says about the Broncos perception of Drew lock that they made it clear to Detroit that they did not want to include him in a trade. Oh, that. Is that a fact? Yeah. For that. Come on. Benjamin Albright. Insider information. That's that's um, that's some of that purse sources. Huh? Well, um there's that shows that they they want to have to lock you on his team and Again. I think that maybe what they're looking for just some some competition, but obviously if they would have, what about brought, uh, the quarter questions. Name tag number. Yeah. Yeah. They brought my staff with here. That would have been started. Well, right. I think what I think what that would've done was it would've created because Stafford has two years left on his deal would create a scenario where you can groom locked behind him for two years. And then at the end of that, you've got a choice to make. Do you extend Matt Stafford at that point, or do you have you have enough faith? Andrew luck at that point to switch over to them. Do you think that that would have been a smart plan? Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. Yes, I'm like a good plan. And yeah, it did work out. Hey, wait. Still, we've been developing you lock and he's been learning on her a great quarterback. So Uh, no good chance to see but I would say A lot of people are a lot higher on mass Stafford than I am not saying he's not a good quarterback, but you know Good quarterbacks sometimes able to overcome some obstacles of you know some other Um, uh, bad parts of a team and you know, he hasn't been able to do that is much So, uh, I said I'm not. I'm not mad that We didn't make a big push there. So let me ask you something in his professional sports, So you know, sometimes you have to kind of check your ego at the door. But how does George Payton delicately balance If he has to include Drew lock in some of these conversations if he decides to continue to kick the tires and other quarterback opportunities, how does he maintain that relationship withdrew because if they have to go back to him, and Drew's been floating around, and I don't know 456 75 different quarterback rumors. Well, all of a sudden, I mean, drew lock might come back and say You know what? I I just don't really feel like this team has faith in me..

I knew I knew I was I Like he was going to drop a woo pig suey the middle of his verdict. Like Ryan. I liked what you said. And I like you, but there's just no simple way I could ever go against hog pig face. Listen. I understand that Steve Atwater As unbiased is he's going to try to be first of all we had him on the previous segment is like I'd never give up first round picks for a quarterback. You're like, Oh, damn well, but I haven't even rape our community is like I don't even really have another argument. Other than you're gonna have to write. I had two pivotal little bit and not bring up the pics very much. And just sort of say Look, the Rams. Well, I was good. First I was gonna nit pick your the way that you done. You phrased it. All in You know? Oh, sure, we should trade all seven pale 21 picks from the next three draft all in all the way because if that's what it takes, would you do that, Ryan, But then I decided it was just easier. Just tow, you know, just argue reality. Just stick to the facts and be like, oh, by the way, you wanna trade How many picks to basically make your team look like the team? He left in the end and then you know, then what's the problem? Yes, you have the easier I'd actually we had a texture of the text line from charities. Like Why do you always get shafted with the unfair case? Pick the cake picked his side. I just said I don't care. Give you aside one of these days, I will have you argue, the more difficult than that Before that it doesn't happen that often. It doesn't. But I've done it before you have I think I'm also secretly afraid that you'll pick the more difficult side and actually win. And then it'll be over. You never hear the end of it because it's easy for me. I think there's like two possible side, you know, get the sympathy. Yeah. Uh, I'm hip to your game. Edwards, you're onto you. "You are Tallis. Cute right there. Yeah. Kyle Turley is gonna join us in 10 30. He's a former chief. He's a saint too. Well, he wasn't here I am. For you to see him when he swung the helmet against the Jets. Yeah, yeah, that's right. He was He would be. He's the perfect guy to get to and you know, he's gone through a lot in his life off the field and hope you pitching cannabis products says he's you know, he's got he's had just about every Impact from playing football is just because he was such a violent player. He was a good player. But he was nasty. I mean, he was a nasty offensive lineman that played through the echo of the whistle, as they say, and he had some legendary Blowups. Um, so but then, you know, he's felt the impacts of playing this viciously violent game for so long. What's the What's the balance? I mean, the game is just different than it used to be. And we're gonna have Lee Steinberg on tomorrow. And Lee, you know, led the You know, when the former commissioner Tagliabue came out 93 with that report that you know concussions, you know, playing football. There's not result in concussions. There's no long term infection affects it impacts all that and they got sued. And and where's the balance with the game? We're seeing today versus the game culturally time, Rathmann J. Anderson played, Um But then you know these guys they're dealing with. You know, they're just not. It's just hard to watch them. When I first got to the Bay Area was invited to a lot of NFL alumni golf tournaments, John I couldn't go anymore. You know my heroes. Bob Sinclair couldn't get in a golf cart. It was like, Wow, this is this terrible. So I think I'll be someone extreme to ask about what's the fine line between Physicality required. To play and I think it's more from, you know, consumer consumption. Versus the benefit of the athlete and the health and safety of the athlete after they're done playing, and while they're playing, cause there's a fine line there. I mean, like some people are turned off. By the way. The game is gone this year, and they You know, they started flagging your helmet to helmet says, you know, watching. I love watching old games and some of the Irani lots hits. You know, it's just unbelievable. He could never play that way. He did just Steve Atwater, watching him lead with his helmet and Big crushing hits that flipped big games. Those would be personal fouls without question, and you get guys getting ejected from the game all the time now for targeting, so the game is different than when these guys played. And so I think I was the perfect Asked to get into what's what's the balance between the physical nous required. And health and safety protocols for the athletes. No doubt about it culturally is always fun to talk to remember. We had him on radio row. A few years ago, and he had the Kyle Turley band, so he's in the music and all these different things, So he's a really interesting guys. We'll talk to him. At the bottom of the hour than the legendary two time Super Bowl champion. Otis O. J. Anderson is going to join us at the top of the 11 o'clock hour. I know you're excited to talk to him. Did you throw the legendary in there just to get me going? There was the deal with that. He's a good player. I'm not gonna call the legendary Pretty good, though. I just You know what I remember most, even though he was obviously won the Super Bowl titles. With the Giants, I remember is weird is this is on inside the NFL, his opening game as a cardinal, and I believe they played the Eagles and he ran for like a buck 93 or something. He was already here Was there remember that? It's just I have weird, just like you like random things stuck in my You know, stuck in your cranium? Yeah. Let me see how close I am. But he was a big back and he was a power back. And he was the M V. P that Super Bowl. I think you know if Scott Norwood makes that 46 yard field goal, Thurman Thomas is the VP, but he was the perfect Accommodation. So his rookie year was 79. You don't know. Football reference to the 0 16 05 was a rookie. I mean, that's ridiculous. He's a good player. Yeah. Going to go to game logs if I could, because I want to know if that was right. I don't know. Whatever. I don't know. They have game logs back to that. Well, I guess they do. Try to use the eighth overall pick in the draft, and here he was. He was a good player, Pro bowler Yeah. We'll talk to him on. Oh, sorry. It was Dallas and it was 1 93. So I was partially right. Turkey here his first game. Was 1979 against Dallas, and he ran 21 times for 1, 93 and a touchdown. It was I remember being on turf, so it must have been at ST Louis the singles he was no Terry Metcalf. MacArthur Lane, the late great MacArthur laid so who had a better first game for the Cardinal franchise, and Kwan Boldin Bolden have like 2 200 yards in his first game was against Detroit to cycle the first game, so wide receivers. There's little factor there, but Yeah. That's right boy who was good right out of the gate, Anquan Boldin and every psycho he runs a 48. Whatever he was, he was a child and playing wide receiver. Ready a great hands like Vice Grip fans. You never dropped anything. But he didn't have runaway speed. Yeah, that came against the truth. Remember, that was his first game ever. And he just Crush them. Now I gotta go back and look at that. I don't know that's that'll Take too long. Our friend Marcus Thompson's going to join us. 11 30. She said. 12 30 Tom Rath is gonna join us. Just one quick note. I'm not gonna talk about the game itself from a year ago today. The one thing I do remember leaving, But don't talk about it, but the one I don't recall the game. I don't recall the game when you were an American Airlines Arena, uh, driving yourself right after we lost it or what? Yeah, I took. I took the shot a little Wayne was there. That could have been too bad then. I just remember taking the media shuttle back in about 4 a.m. from from hard rock, and I could have sworn that you and I. We're gonna be sitting in Tampa now. Of course, we probably wouldn't be anyway, but Was very convinced that they were gonna be back there now, obviously the injuries but I really did. I remember leaving on that bus going. We'll be back. We'll be back in Florida next year. So you never know. There are no guarantees in sports. In fact, I think my sign off that night and I've heard it. Speaking of NFL films, I think the great Steve Stable, wrote the line, but I read delivered it to a fresh, younger audience. They may get sued for it. I called it not a dream denied. Merely a dream delayed. I remember that and I at the time I firmly believed it, and I don't believe in Super Bowl hangovers. Uh, I I just think they're circumstances. Why? You know, every team Uh, why Some teams don't go back to back. I mean, there's a short list of teams that have won back to back Super Bowls, and Kansas City's trying to get their Brady was the last to do it in time. Rathmann is a perfect guest today. At 11 30. They went back to back with two different head coaches. They went from Bill Walsh to George Seaford. So think about that..

Had had personal charge like we were just talking. I hung out with you two gentlemen a year ago at Super Bowl. That was great. We just talked about getting getting thrown out of Smith Wollensky in Miami. By the way, we got kicked out of Smith and Wollensky in my Am like six o'clock then that Noah's later than that am or PM no P m. It was no. It was like 667 o'clock at night. It was wildly Yes, it was early, which was after the That's right. Because Steve Atwater, we were talking to see that water. Is that the event that we were way went to the Broncos event it Smith Wollensky where Peyton was there. And Steve Atwater was there. You were there we did. We did the big talk. We talked about hoping Steve was going to get into the Hall of Fame, which he did, which was great. And then we went to the bar. Yeah. Uh, Brenda, your brother bar. We had an open bar upstairs before that, But your brother, What's his name? Craig. And I would say the rest is like you know the scheme and the coach is there and you know, uh, the culture's been able to get to him in and teach him and The way that resonates with him. Uh, But, you know, he's got to put in the work. You've got a black not only his film, you gotta watch these other quarterbacks, but you got some great examples of great quarterbacks right now. Four quarterbacks better, uh, in the championship. Come on. Now. You got a great quarterback. You've got a young quarterback Josh Island. Uh, you got past my home, but we don't know if he's gonna be playing tonight. And you got you got Brady, your boy. Oh, come on, man. We got team C couple TV there. Rodders. Yeah, runs a man and You know, look at those guys. And they all have some things in common. Although their game is the games are totally different, but they have things that they do. Well, they don't They don't get back there and take sacks. They don't throw into coverage. You know, they do a good job of when they get pressure to behave. You just thought in the ground you get. You know, Thor thought out of pounds. They're not going to take A bunch of hits. And you know he's got a loan from that, you know, and That's the thing in the NFL. If you don't learn from that, from from not only your experiences, but other great players, it, man. It's not gonna be. It's not gonna be a long career, man. You're gonna be sitting on the you know, on on the couch watching somebody else play. If you can, if you can't get better, each and every year, So that's why I say it's on him because You know, then the day He's the one out there. Making the calls making the throws, you know, scrambling, deciding if he's going to step into the pocket, or, you know, trying to outrun it from the backside, you know, and deciding if he's gonna try to squeeze it in there. Before people are gonna throw it out of bounds. You know, he's the one making those decisions at the end of the day. So, um, And you're you know, I think he could do it. Really do it. Hey, we'll wait. Feeling that I don't know well, much like a wide receiver coming over the middle against the Denver Broncos and the early to mid to late nineties, fearing For their lives that were Ryan Edwards has been sweating all day because he said he sent over a name of somebody He really liked on tape. And before the show, he won't admit it to you. But he was saying how much he was afraid that Steve was going to verbally murder him for for this player that may or may not be good. I don't know. So Ryan sent over a player. What did you think of that particular player, Steve? Well, uh, early on the guy name is Richie Grant. Um You know? Start the film from the beginning, and you know that women is this guy? Just a guy talking about Uh, listen, tackles, you know, guys running up, you know, he's covering guys. And you know, they're running full speed. These last let it you know, waiting on the, uh, something enforce the most of the time. You guys were running intermediate routes are, you know sort of rock so we didn't get burned. But yeah, he's a good player. Do you think he could be a player who's gonna develop? He's not the first rounder I no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not. I'm not saying that just much like Steve Atwater, you know, ended Christian Korea's Career. You know, Steve at work comes back and ends Ryan scouting career just just within the jarring hit. Dude. Yeah, I'm so deflated right now. Uh, no, no, he has some skills. He moves well, once he gets going, But sometimes he's a little bit flatfooted, and I don't like that, and he's waiting on guys T o to make their move. You've got to be ready for the guys who runs past him, and that's happened a couple times, but he just reporting it didn't didn't throw the ball to the guy. But, um Yeah. I was surprised you sent that over when I saw something earlier. You know, But as it went on, you started making plays Makesem Isis. He's fearless guys really tackling right, But that's one of the things that jumped out at me is he's kind of a play maker guy, but I know that look, there's certainly and I even told you what I sent the thing I said there's some raw stuff in there and I don't think he's a completed guy by any stretch, and definitely not a first rounder. Think he'd go day two. There's possibility slips today three. But I think he's more of a day to guy. There's another safety. I want you to look at when you get chance. James Wiggins of Cincinnati Another safety that I really like. That's gonna be out Senior Bowl, But these are just these aren't even the top two safeties in this draft. It Z insanely deep safety class. But if the Broncos up to wait until late day two or early day three To get a safety will probably take a look at it. Yeah, but this is kind of in the range of like Michael. Jim Moody I told you about last year. You know, I was telling you about him at the senior boys like, Look, this isn't a dude you're drafting in the first round..

"I doubt this comes up nearly as much. And then on top of that, Justin Herbert had a brilliant rookie year and so That's where we said this. From the beginning. He said that Justin, her word plays well is gonna put a ton of pressure on this organization. Right. Can't advantages that you know, maybe a drew locked didn't had players that first of all is this multiple years? The same scheme? Yes. Yet players old veteran players in that around that offense, It already knew it. All he had to do was just come in and catch himself versus Trulock, who was learning it alongside his rookie teammates and second year player teammates and That was probably well, I didn't have a Keenan Allen out there. Courtney got hurt. You know, I didn't have 100 Henry out there. You don't even have a policy. It's center. You're a rookie on so it's you know, it's it's one of those situations where you know the context. People always talk about excuses, Mans no excuses. Just the context the situation. I'm not saying Drew's gonna go out and become that guy or not. I'm just saying, Let's let's be honest about the situation go from there. The Raiders. Close to the playoffs with a Derek Carr. Well, that that's the name he brought up that Andre brought up because he gets it he feels like that's kind of in that blurry lines. You know that Ryan kind of Jerry's in that tear he's in that you could you could you get the playoffs with him? You might even be a little Super Bowl with him. But you probably you probably looking to see if you have a down year something happens and you got the opportunity Quarterback. You probably do it. Yeah, I think the tough decision and this is a decision. They have to make any time soon. The Broncos that is Tough decision is paying those guys because, like I didn't I would never have wanted to pay that Ryan 30 million. But why you're not gonna find replacement level like anywhere else. That's what I do. The painting will be snapped up in a heartbeat on some other team and you're gonna watch him probably take a team to the playoffs or is not beyond it. There are really good team and they were a quarterback away. And so it almost seems like been the goal is you build the team in order to put yourself in position that when you get that quarterback you drafted requirement, whatever. Then you are basically ready. Toc skyrocket. It's basically what the Broncos did in 2012. You know, they built the team around there. They had good defensive players they had, you know, young up and coming offense with the marries Thomas and Eric Decker. Handsome young. You know, titans, Tom? Yeah, I had some talent around them. And as soon as they got Peyton Manning here It was the difference and they went to 12 wins that year. Here's the thing. Is if you're gonna make a bonfire You got to put the wood up first. You know, so that when you when you put the lightning rod in there and you catch that and you catch fire, you can sustain it from there is you gotta build. You know you gotta build it up first, and that's what they're trying to do. That's what George Payton is talking about. You got to be prepared to put the lady right up there, but we can't sacrifice our wood pile. Righto rub sticks together and into us. We put the put the bonfire together and then try to like the thing on fire and get it going. That's that's what the quarterback is. Quarterbacks the match. You know that gets that thing going and so, you know, end of the day. You're you're just trying to find that guy, but you don't want to sacrifice your whole woodpile to do it. Like that's really well said, and this is a fun conversation. Let's come back to this tomorrow. A little bit will bring this up with Steve Atwater, but I mean again, it kind of goes back to the point. If you're gonna trade away future drafts, like the biggest, most important players that you'd be possibly drafting, trading away future drafts in order to get to Shawn Watson. It's likely not just setting yourself back in a few years, but you're thinking about building up that woodpile you're thinking about building up. What would be the talent around that quarterback and we've already seen how stretched this team got when things didn't go, right. And they got hurt. Yeah, and that's the thing you eliminate the margins at that point, So you know you you want to build this thing right? And I have confidence that he's going to do that. Yeah, I certainly do. I don't know why that got misunderstood the way it did, but You know you're right. People are looking for reasons to be upset before they even have a legitimate 12. All right, that does it for us tonight. Thank you. Jesse Thomas. Thank you, Michael Cooper. Thank you guys for listening. We'll be back tomorrow. Seven. "You don't get excited over the senior bowl. I don't know. Why do you as we're talking about some of the prospects in the break. I was just listening to the original spin doctor there. John Popper. Way had Chris the other way around. Chris Barron on the show. Yeah, it was the other way around and do is Chris Barron was an original blues traveler. And then he Yeah, he was well aware of No. No spin doctors was a side project. John Popper left to go focus on blues traveler. But then But then Chris Barron was in blues traveler a little bit too. Yeah. So with the original the original probably met was on the side project. I'm just about it, but I think we're both right here. Yeah, I've heard it Both wish. Okay? Whatever. All right, so anyways, yes. Chris Barron. If you missed it, we had the lead singer to spend doctors on on Friday. There was a lot of fun. Go check it out. Broncos country tonight dot com Already get to Ben's best bet of the day coming up here in a matter of moments first, this one in the text line. Is there a scenario where we could trade back one or two times in the draft. And acquire picks to fill our defense defensive needs this year while also getting 2022 capital in case what feels absolutely absolutely, honestly, if you're if you wanted to paint a picture for me of how this really looks. That's exactly what you do. If you're George Payton is your trading back in the draft. You're acquiring draft capital for next year. If you can't even a first rounder for next year, an additional one And your still setting yourself up for success. There are talented cornerbacks. They're going to go late in the first round into the second round. There are talented linebackers. They're going to be available. We just talked about the depth of safety is incredible, so you could absolutely get talent. Coming up later in the draft. If you decide that at pick nine. It's better for you because there might be teams that are trying to leapfrog up there to get, say, trail ends or exam. I mean that that that's a perfect example of a guy that could be sitting there at nine and your team that maybe doesn't want to bring on another project quarterback. So, Yeah, absolutely. And and again. You gotta be thinking thinking if you're George Payton in this scenario of okay, I'm in a bit of a redshirt year. I have the opportunity. To wait until next year. And really take a run at some things. So this year I'm just going to kind of let things play out. Vic Fangio hopefully will prove to me that he needs to be the guy and if he's not gonna go into for direction to like, needs to prove to me, he's the guy if not going new direction. And in the meantime, I'm going to try to surround both guys with as much talent. As possible. In my scenario, that's the dream scenario. Dream scenarios to trade Down in this draft that acquires much capital is possible to roll forward so that general manager has a rolling well to go forward. He can always use that the next draft that if he doesn't like it, he can roll that capital forward. Find another trade party keep rolling that capital forward. That's the idea. The idea is to have all those bullets in the gun and be able to use them whenever you whenever you need to. Whatever that is. So when we talk about a red shirt year for the GM this year, it's a win win. The general manager could sit back make minimal acquisitions in free agency. And watch this team either succeed under Drew lock or the competing quarterback that he brings in or on def they do. He's the guy who came in and Sprinkle the magic fairy dust on this roster that worked at all. We just couldn't get it done. If it doesn't work. Well, you know, the previous general manager saddled me with, you know, with this roster and coach. I'm go ahead, clean house and make this thing in the image that I want to do with it. It's a win win. If you're a general manager, we're gonna get back to those comments from the G M's tomorrow on the program because there's just so much to unpack his way more stuff in there that we had a text or talking about Casey. Yeah, that that there's questions in there about all that kind of stuff, so we'll get into it, and I'll give you the specific the direct quotes too. Look some of these things so we can we can we can unpack that. Not like that. All right. So tomorrow on the program, we're gonna be on starting seven o'clock couple programming notes. First of all, Steve Atwater's Give me move to Thursday. He need to do a different day. We'll have granite Crystal River Air. Crocker. Yeah, I mean, as it stands right now, The plan is to have both of them in the same weekend. 11 class, inducted on Saturday and the 2020 class on Saturday and then the 2021 class. One Sunday. The obviously you know everything is dependent on how the country is able to bounce back from the covert and all that good stuff. But if If everything go this plan, then Yeah, we're supposed to be back to back like that. And it's gonna be great weekends. Steve. I really only I have one important question to ask you. And that is how did your interview for general manager of the Denver Broncos go? You know what? It went pretty good and lasted about 15 minutes. Uh, Johnson kicked your butt out here. No. Well, then you know that I did interview for that, you know, takes down and just told him Congrats. You know, he, uh Some. He was You know, looking forward to doing the need to spend more time with his grandkids. And, you know, he's had a great run, man. He did a really great job or the organization and you know he'll still be there. So Um, in my hat's off to him, you know, making the decision, you know, have two more happened. I know he had a lot of happiness with the football team, but it'll give him a different type of happened has been able to Yeah, just a little bit more time with the family. You really did have a great run. I mean, right now, In the 10 years, he has the most eyes fourth most active winning percentage of any current GM. So I mean, yes, he had a good run, despite what the recent struggles have been. I mean, I think you overall had to know one day this was going to come. So it's interesting scene. Some of the reaction because there are some people that thought that maybe this would be some sort of Clean break, But I guess the way I always frame this in my head was John always, Mr Bronco and you know he's been such an impactful part of the Broncos organization for so long you you wouldn't want that guy's help. In sort of selecting his six successor. I think this makes a lot of sense, actually. Oh, yeah. So do I. You know, John has a pulse on everything going on Broncos wise and around the league and you know he's got a lot of great contacts. Great friends. Great inside so You know anybody coming in? What would be think a little bit crazy not to not to lean on John. Do you think that I think this comes up a lot, And you probably don't necessarily know the answers. But I think that people wonder how that balance is gonna be and how tough it is for as a competitive guy, as John is How's he going to feel about sort of letting go a little bit and leg? This new G M kind of fill things out to me the whole thing and I just want your perspective in general here. The whole thing for me is it's going to be a feeling out process there. I don't know if the Broncos 100% know what this is going to look like until they actually hired the guy. Yeah, but you know the reason why there Harry someone is because they want someone else to take over those responsibilities. And, you know, I definitely don't think that John is the type of person that would You know, tried to micro manage, or, you know, uh, do power moves over someone that he hired. So, uh, you know, everybody knows John. Man knows him. Those were closer. Man knows he's a great guy. Hey, he's gonna be great at, you know, kind of being that person that you kind of oversees everything, Uh, and you'll be a great again a great sounding board for whoever comes in as the next general manager, But, yeah, I don't think it'll be a problem at all. With, you know any power struggle or anything like that, you know, turning our attention to the to the team itself, and the play on the field with season is wrapped, obviously a bit of a disappointment overall, but I think there's cautious optimism. Arua room for cautious optimism heading into next season of his team can stay healthy. You go back and you look at defensive line pray pretty well. The depth guys, we lost the whole defensive line. Deaf guys play pretty well. The linebackers played pretty well in the absence of Chub and and and von Miller. All season on then, the corners, you know, you.
