I did the right thing, revising the panhandling sit and lie and camping ordinances did win unanimous approval from counsel. And among these changes police will now have to issue official warnings homeless people before they could issue any actual tickets. There were impassioned pleas from lake Austin homeowners. The council meeting trying to convince city leaders to continue to honor a decades old property tax exemption, many of them critical of lengthy response times from police fire and EMS because property lines crossing the both city and Travis county, the appropriate ambulance was not sent out in my son was in cardiac arrest and he did not survive chided the council for doing lengthy interviews with the media about this without ever once contacting those property owners. "We love these folks already a couple of things LSU's reinstated their head coach will Wade. Wow. He met with the NC double A last Friday during those meetings. He answered all questions. Yeah. That's all. I said answer the questions he denied any wrongdoing in connection with recently reported allegations of irregularities in college basketball, recruiting the university regrets that coach way did not choose to fulfill his obligations to LSU when he was I s to that's what I had a problem with here. Oh, you had to do is say, hey, this is why I said it this is why it sounded like that. And then maybe you would been reinstated for tournament. They went on to say in the press release coach Wade's explanations and clarifications offered during the meeting absent actual evidence of misconduct satisfying, his contractual obligation, still you. I think there's a little bit more that why weren't you honest in the first place. That's what I wanna do Laurie Laughlin. She's aunt Becky is that who she is. In fuller house is yeah, the actress and her husband have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges in the college admission scandal, according to federal court filings on Monday, they also waived their right to appear in court for an arraignment on a money laundering charge. I guess they got to their daughters, including one is social media influence her into USC. I everything I've read feels like that the prosecution if you don't if plead guilty, they're gonna come after you with even more charges that if you plead guilty that they will somehow lessen the sentence on that. Yes. He I think that's why they charge you with so many. Yeah crimes. Yeah. Right. I mean, like say you did one thing. But somehow it's five different crimes. So you can plead out of it. "And I think Dan this next generation the generation that's now, you know, fifteen to twenty three twenty four if they've only heard about tiger. And maybe we'll put the golf on to see tiger. And nothing seen him at his best. They. Understand what the Tony fee now generation and all those guys who are six three six four who were attracted to golf because tiger made it cool bay. Now are feeling that. So maybe there's another generation if there's a little tiger run here for two three years that will see how cool golf can be when he's playing and these other guys are hitting it all over the place. And that might be the next tiger bump, but I don't think it will match the first one with we all thought was going to be bringing more minorities to the game. And in fact, it was bringing more athletes to the game only view with this. Hallway is convinced Michael Phelps is coming back for the twenty twenty Olympics. And he's there following tiger yesterday. Now, the reason why we think in paulie things, and we even said it to Michael Phelps is because of his son that that here's tiger got to share this with his son. Do you see that? If I said bet Michael Phelps is going to swim a couple of races. Or he does. Doesn't do anything. And he's an analyst for the twenty twenty games. I I've been under the assumption that he wasn't going to swim at that. He really he put he put the goggles on the swim trunks away, which is in a very small place. If you hang those up, but. Hang up your your helmet. Wait. Wait, hold on poli. What what you go? I think I'm about to get three on my side. I don't know. It sounds like he's hanging up. His spill I I now that you say that way with the sun aspect of it. How can you not as a competitor? He thinking how about this? You know tiger. Now, here's the what's the one thing. He hasn't done. He's never wanted Olympic gold medal. Tiger is now high enough in the world ranking said if you make the Olympic team right now he would qualify. So what is Tucker and selves and Serena and Roger Federer and LeBron all come for one last shot at the Olympics in Tokyo at twenty twenty sounds like a heck of a Nike commercial? I know that. Well, it sounds like a promo for NBC sports. Mike. Nice try. No, no. It sounds like the host of the Olympics begging for that. Hey, bud. Good to talk to you. Safe travels and talk to you soon. Mix in New York. I wanna see the new cave in person. Oh my God. Mike it is attacking her. Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty incredible. Really proud of it. So we'll roll it out on Friday come on a Friday when we meet Friday. Okay. At some point. Can I get a little bit of memorabilia up here like that head shoulders ads that me you mckenry salary? Did we get that? I just want just wants me for a day or two. The gallery habit. I have that. But you only want it up because you had hair back, then you are correct, sir. Mike Trico NBC sports sculpt channel host and play by play duties for Westwood One. Yes. Mclovin. Shaw right through that what he had to went too far without thereto of LeBron's come on. I know like the bronze gonna put on more minute. Maybe I don't wanna see LeBron go through the motions in twenty twenty. I was actually thinking tiger risk that wear and tear to do there. Well, you prep your year for that. Plus, you're talking about your brand. So if you're in Tokyo for twenty twenty and I mean, that's that's why these guys want to be in the Olympics. It's your brand because all of these different countries. You know, it's all vailable for everybody to consume around the world. It's about branding yourself. I seventeen after the hour. "I mean, he had wrung out the sponge in Nevada to turn on appearances one Sweet Sixteen. No, Jordan Carolina next year. No Caleb and Cody Martin. So it was time for Erica cash in literally on what he was doing. And how about the SEC in basketball right now, you have seven teams in the NCAA tournament, and you add buzz Williams, NATO's and Arab Muslim and his head coaches at the heck of a basketball conference, right? Rex walters. Gun cans to get the job in Nevada. I know he's only time. Steve Alford is going to be the next coach in the battle. Really all pretty I reported that yesterday they were hammering out details yet hammer out details yesterday, Steve all for former head coach UCLA to Mexico and Isla will replace our Muslim Nevada. The Arkansas with Muslim when you think working on it. I'm sure that you know, he would have a spot and say he doesn't lend anything else in the power conference. That's a better fit for major geographic perspective. What do you think of ever Mckee taken over friend dumpy temple? You know, similar to what we've seen in other places where former players take over, you know, there's obviously continuity this familiar already with the program. You know, I'm, you know, I'm going to tell you. I'm very very tepid about evaluating people who haven't been, you know, focused on college basketball and Ariza different story because he's been temple as an assistant for a number of years. And with a great leader as a player, but you got me in canton, right now, we have seen in college basketball. The last five years coaches come into college basketball from the NBA without a great understanding, obviously of what goes into work in the college game the day to day grind recruiting the compliance scheduling and other than Fred Hoiberg. Jody when he was at Iowa State. We haven't seen guys have a lot of success. I mean, Jeff Zelic did not work out a Wake Forest Mark Price did not work out at Charlotte. Chris mullin? Gossipy NCAA tournament improved every year. But obviously he's leaving after four years. Mike Dunleavy senior fired in three years. Clyde Drexler did not last Houston. So now whenever I see people coming in from college coming to college from the NBA with no experience. I'm always a little Pepe Jody. I think that's one big trend to keep an eye on. Right. Hoiberg right now. The only person, you know, who came with no college experience has had massive success. And he went to the NBA back end work. And now he's going to try it again in Nebraska, we'll see how it works out there. You mentioned the additions in the SEC one of which includes buzz Williams, I know you, and I are both big buzz fans, Texas AM's program, certainly always in the mix just too good. A job to pass up because I don't use in pretty good standard by tech. No. He did a great job at Virginia Tech. But buzzes smart enough to understand when it's time to go and move on to new coat to a new situation. I mean did a great job at Marquette. Got out went to Virginia Tech went into you know, that assignment with the hopes of making it a perennial NCWA thirteen. He did they lost by to Duke in the Sweet Sixteen. He is a perfect fit to the job at an, you know, this is a program that a lot of people forget was in the Sweet Sixteen last year. The n this egr at the footprint. He's in a situation where he's going to be able to recruit at I level that was not not a home run a grand slam protective saying, I'm a big guy. Much like yourself. I brother. Thanks much. Thanks for updating. You got it brother? That's our college basketball here on CBS and WFAN and the network John Ralston Stein here with us on the fan on a Thursday night. Looks like Tim clues. "Kentucky did not make the final four this year. There are a lot of Kentucky fans who were unhappy about the fact that they did not make the final four as they have not made the final four since twenty fifteen. This is a time where you might wanna remind people that they went to the final four and twenty eleven counterparties second year at Kentucky. They had not been to a final four before that since nineteen ninety eight they made four final fours in five years after that happened those worth noting the year that they did not make the final four. They not only did not make the tournament. They did not make it to the second round of the NFL t believe they lost Robert Morris in that year. But he has Kentucky fans not too happy is wanna point out for you. Cal has been to seven elites and four. Final fours in ten years at Kentucky that is basically Jim bay entire career Syracuse that is basically what might chef ski has done since two thousand one at do, of course, the differences chefs. He's got some titles thrown in there not insignificant thing. But you get where I'm coming from. He's done pretty well. He's done pretty well for himself. But this finesse mood. He made so UCLA dry to hire. Cal and Kentucky. Interestingly gave UCLA permission to talk to him. I believe they may as well given UCLA permission to talk to him because he wasn't gonna leave their last coach Steve Alford, right? Like, they was playing on a level of it was going to hire calc- you've all for wind have been the dude that they had last time. There's all kinds of questions about just how. Much UCLA has money four and a big part of it is does UCLA have money to pay systens. I talked to somebody who swears to me that they got the money to make these things work if they need to get it done. They can get it done. But the widespread belief is that the problem UCLA is they can kinda sorta pay the coach, but they really can't pay for the stuff that is surrounding it, which I find to be incredibly bizarre that they don't have the money network that can do this. But whatever, right. That's where UCLA is UCLA made a play at Cal gay where they offer him like nine million dollars. I wanna see it was run eight. Yeah. And Cal told them, no. And now he has a lifetime contract at Kentucky. Lifetime. He finesse that deal using as leverage a job..

Calipari seals lifetime deal to finish career at UK

"To the men's side Kentucky was bounced from its. Tournament this past weekend with the loss to Auburn. But John Calipari isn't going anywhere. He agrees to a contract extension at Kentucky deal that will see him finish his career there. Had been in contact with UCLA about its opening. The Bruins looking to replace Steve Alford who was fired New Year's Eve had been offered. Forty eight million over six years. He'll stay with Kentucky and Monday on his show on the UK sports network. They'd been talking to me for a while. Dwayne tonight sat down a couple of different times. And he says don't you want to finish your career? Why don't we just do something and you finish it here? And and so it had nothing to do with all the other stuff every year. Then I'm here. Something at the end of the year happens someone's trying to call or talker. And so, you know, it's. This is again, I mean, you think of this job that I have. You think of what we built the culture that we built here we've done it all kinds of different ways. The kids are we get good kids. The academics. That that were allowed to give lifetime scholarships that were allowed to bring these kids back that we we ensure these kids that this is a situation in a culture that's taken time to build and. You know, where else would I want to coach now people to call at the end of every year? They're there, you know, you get calls and. But the reality of it is this has been in the works for a while. And they presented it to me. And I appreciate it. I mean, I I appreciate the administration Mitch and Dwayne and Dr Kapela, oh, and you know, they're they're they want me to be here till I'm done coaching. And and it's funny. Somebody said a lifetime scholarship. I don't know what that means immed- could be two years. No, no, tell me what it is about. I wanna go get my jeans checked or whatever they do. But you know, it's the faith. They've shown in me. I appreciate it. I've let them know that and. In our fans. I mean, yeah, we have some crazies. They don't bother me. I mean this thing is about being up at bat every year with a chance to win. This is a unique place. I appreciate the opportunities. I've had here. And and you know, it's it's it's one of those places that you know, you have to want this to really be here, you can't shy from any of the stuff that goes on around his current deal Kentucky runs through twenty twenty four. He's the highest paid basketball coach in the country total compensation of nine point two million this year sources tell the ESPN the new Kentucky deal is constructed as a contract extension until Calipari retires. "I am doing great gentlemen. He's straight to come on the show. And in college hoops. Yeah. We always appreciate it. And we're talking about coaching and makes them the best coaches of all time and indifference four. And I'm just curious is there anything quantifiable like the numbers speak to the fact of coaches and decisions that they make and how they impact games, and what their value might be. It's really difficult. I took a stab at once. And what I did was. I basically looked at halftime adjustments for coaches. Yeah. You know, it's something that we associate with coaching. And so I looked at all, you know, all the games were played like ten years. You know, take a teams like win probability at half time and figure out, you know, did they did they win more than they should have released more than they should based on. There's probably multiple games and. You know, the list they got spit out. There was not a list of that you would expect it. I guess. You know, what kind of drove me to? It was like Steve Fisher was legendary for like, not blowing Johnny any graded out. Pretty well. And there are some other guys, and they're all came out pretty well. But then like Steve Alford came out, well, which maybe he isn't. Wow. That wasn't that wasn't well received by the public. So yes, the bottom line. And it's it's pretty tricky. And I don't think I'm quite solve that riddle. You're listening to Tolbert and Thompson, I can't be San Francisco KFC in HD two San Mateo, these sports leader. Yeah. Boy, that's a huge undertaking. It really is trying to get all that data and trying to find out because that's the thing. I are. There are a lot of things you look at because you have I'm sure hypotheses on a lot of things as I do is just you a lot smarter than I am, and you can figure out how to see if it works or not. I have no idea. I'm just like that is gas. Hopefully, maybe it plays into my favor. But when you look at this stuff, how many things do you look at? Have a hypothesis on. And then it's wrong. Like, you just look like at the end of you go. Wow. That wasn't even close on that one. I usually what happens is that. I have a hypothesis stand. I can't find like enough data to guide or reviewed it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Sometimes. Yeah. I, you know, sometimes you get lucky, and you find some sort of interesting nugget and certainly early in my career when I'm doing this kind of a lot of low hanging fruit that you could do that with. But the time has gone on. It's been like. I get a lot more tentative in terms of like diving into data town particular very specific thing over just talking about because it. I really doubt. Like, you know, that I have enough information there that kind of support the conclusion I get a great example of that is I'll get to one is the coal fouling up. Three talk. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You you look at the data for that in college basketball, and it's really inconclusive. Whether that's like a great strategy. And I that's one thing..

I know that's. I know I know that on you. And the fact that you have put that behind you and shows you the mental toughness needed in this business. I like that. That's why you're rising star waiting for Watson, man. Just waiting for UCLA. Do the right thing. Do the right thing. You should have come out of college. And then just taking over his head coach, then he'd be like his, you know, his twentieth year by now, you know. I mean we joke, but Earl was literally a coach while playing. He's he's Ike. He's kind of always been that. I mean, no-brainer no-brainer we can we can say that will for another day. That's a no brainer. That's okay. No. Because you know, we were waiting for lavon. "I think that's a good bet right now, they seem to be playing and having more fun from the last time we saw them in Chicago. That's for sure. Well, UCLA if nothing else is the most talented team in the pack twelve they have the most individual talent for sure now. I I think there is something to that. And they also like they some part of them has to be smart enough to say, okay. So everyone saying the Pac twelve is a one bid league. But what if we? They're not going to run the table. But what if they I forget how many how many games they play eighteen in the Pac twelve schedule. Let's say they go fourteen and four in the Pac twelve and when when the regular season in the kind of went by two or three games. It are are the the NCAA is the committee is a selection committee are people who make the decisions on this stuff is any part of them going to be like, well, maybe we throw out the first half of the season with Steve Alford 'cause this team we hate we see now is a completely different team. And this this new team this new teams, not too bad. Yeah. They were with their sophomores. Yeah. They've grown up. Yeah. So maybe we should let them in. Maybe there is a little bit of wrinkle of that. But yeah, no. I think you're absolutely right. I think UCLA from what I've seen. I've I've watched like. I I've I I'll be honest. I've been watching him play fully yet. I flip over kind of catch segments here there, some I'm not gonna pretend like, you know, I'm out here. So the only thing on. Yeah. You know, it's like either that or why can pretend like this brick air briquettes twenty four seven. So it's one of the other. It's not a it's not a scientific study by any means. But like from what I've seen. It does seem like they don't hate each other as much as they did. I sell the one thing just the the highlight or or the video of Jalen Moses Brown fucks up and puts his head down, the Jalen hands walks over and kind of puts his chin up for him. Then there's that sort of stuff going on. I don't know. I I don't know if I want that though Tate. I want the Pac twelve to be horrible. Like, I said, it's more fun. It's funnier. If the pectoral of the wheels is keep falling off. I don't know. If I like this story of UCLA is the worst case scenario for UCLA fans at like this guy that Bartolo does or like UCLA runs. The table makes the tournament. Barten- somehow gets the job out of all now. I mean like they tried it. They reached there. Each out to all their candidates, and they all say, no because they're like, I don't really wanna touch that. In the job. I have better anyway, or whatever. And then like, all right. Well, let's let's just give this guy another year or something that'd be funny. Well, that was I mean that was the worst case scenario was them leaving Steve offered they're on the bench than him winning the Pac twelve tournament in the Pac twelve regular season. And then go into the turnament and then making it to the Sweet Sixteen somehow with probably a goal to end..

But why why are you so negative? Why are you just down? Give me some brother-in-law coach, right, Robin. Barack Obama until he said, no. Bill Walton says Barack Obama's gonna coach UCLA the city that is something for sure. Something we don't maybe it's been Barack Obama's dream to coach college. That's hilarious. Why was just real quick outta just out of the blue here? UCLA Steve Alford the head coach of former player they fired him in the middle of the season. Was this unexplained this expected there at UCLA? I mean, they expected to go back into the worst days John wooden or UCLA in many ways, it's like the fan base where they expect national championships every year because it used to kind of be that way. And it's not really like that anymore. They got off to a slow start. They were kind of underachieving this year, and they didn't waste any time. And they bounce Steve all kind of how it is last one before we take a break here is this anything pita. You know, Peter Wright define level-headed folks at pita. "I think he could be back within the next ten days if he comes back within the next ten days, I think the Lakers are fine. Right. Well, the answer your question is the Lakers injury wise, they're fine as long as LeBron is fine. And historically, this is the thing that I wrote about over the summer on Lakers com-, if LeBron is healthy is a good proposition because he's almost always healthy. Now, this happens to be a believe is I muscle type of injury. And so that's concerning in one sense that he hasn't had that type of injury before. But he he. Set himself on Twitter like that he thinks that he's basically fine. You just gotta let the groin he'll a little bit. It's not it's not like toward the the bone or anything like he's seems like he's okay, then they can sustain just like the sustained Rondo being out for the for. He was out for a full month. John, and they were fine. If Lonzo goes out for a little bit of of this happens in the NBA, but you're star can't miss too much time, and you can say that for any team in the west if if any in this why last night it comes into context if any team star goes out, they're going to drop in the standings. And so for for everybody that thinks the sky is falling go back to nine days ago because that was nine days ago, literally less than two weeks ago. The Lakers looked like I mean, how many people the next day said, oh, God, they're going to the Western Conference finals and all of a sudden they're not because of these injuries. And I think these injuries get better, they healed. Okay. Like, if if this was LeBron broken leg, MMA broken, arm or achilles. Yeah. Then I'd say, okay. This could be. But it's not yet. And I don't think it is period. Let me play devil's advocate though for one second. The one thing that I do think that we saw yesterday. Okay. The young guys while good while talented. We saw Ingram carry them to a win over Sacramento at home with his performance late. Kuzin was good in that game. Lonzo they're not those young guys are not yet capable of playing against Paul George. Russell Westbrook and crunch time. That's why you need a star. That's why you need the brunt. If you thought that that's the one thing where I think you watch that game. And you've been kind of seen Ingram now for a couple of years in. Why is not there yet because he's twenty one and Paul George is is in his prime in his late twenties and was not at the level of Ingram. When when he was twenty one I'll give you Paul Georgia's age twenty one stat. So that's the thing that's harder to remember. Sometimes these guys in that essence aren't ready, but when the bronze on the court, and then they Ingram's getting the second best defender and not Paul George in his face in the fourth quarter. That's when. All of a sudden thinks click, so that's even. It's the one thing about LeBron. Yeah. It's the one thing about LeBron that people don't give them enough credit for LeBron always takes the other teams. Best defender off the board for everyone else. In other words. So you wonder why the Lakers had what was obviously some talent over the past five years but had losing records all five years. It's because the other teams best player automatically took out. One of our young guys took out Dangelo Russell or Brandon Ingram or Julius Randle or coups MMA. Now that guy's garden LeBrun right and would have been so what happened last night either the Braun who can score around Paul George one of the few guys the Ken. But guess what happened on the weeks? You got Terrence Ferguson on Ingram. Then you like that match up. All of a sudden, I don't love Ingram going at Paul George. But that's why Ingram becomes important. So it's all of this is about LeBron right? He's got to get healthy. And he will write a lot to get to the NFL playoff start this weekend. I Greg Bergman, and I are very happy because Steve Alford finally got fired at UCLA should happen three years ago. But it finally did. So we'll talk about who should get the UCLA job and coming up next. This just came out the first all star vote numbers are out Trudell seen all of them. I've only seen the top.

"Wwl the higher and UCLA could do a hell of a lot worse than the Munster kid. You already have they did with Steve Alford. Steve Alford a hiring that never made sense. But a firing the made perfect sense. I don't know. I'm kind of in favor of Billy Donovan coming in. If they play his song every time he hits the floor. Anyway, I digress. They'll do what they have to do. Russell westbrook. Coming back to LA another great story line. Billy Donovan coming to LA. Maybe get the UCLA job allegedly potentially. Whatever. Russell Westbrook coming back to LA. Anne case you forgot Paul George come into play the Lakers after stiffen the Lakers in free agency.
