"It's kind of funny to think about. But that kind is what it feels like. Yeah, I would assume that this isn't necessarily a game plan where the Patriots are gonna feel like they need to blitz a ton to affect Davis mills. I think Davis mills is gonna give it up to them regardless of they put a ton of pressure on them or not. So maybe a game plan where they're similar to what they did last week against Tampa Bay, honestly, where they have the safety in the middle of the field and the deep middle and they have another player in the middle of the field, the rat defender, if you will, whether it's from the linebacker level or another safety like miles Bryant rotating into the box into that role. You put two kind of help defenders in the middle of the field so that all JC Jackson has to do is play bump and run on the outside and make sure that Brandon cooks doesn't beat him on a go ball. That's pretty much all he's got to worry about. He's got help in the middle of the field at both the intermediate and deep levels. Sharp Brandon cooks could catch a little drag rat or a three step slant or something like that underneath the defense, but then you just make the tackle. So that to me is probably going to be a similar game plan as to what it was. Last week, the Patriots really putting a lot of praise on this Tampa Bay are this Houston receiving corpse. They blow smoke up the opponent every single week. So this is something else, though. I think they said it was the best one of the best receiving groups are gonna face all year or something like that. So yeah I look great at cooks next is as much as the next guy, but it's calmed out. Yeah. So it was a weird typical ballot check pumping up the opponent type stuff. So yeah, I think this is gonna be a very big one rat type of coverage for the Patriots. JC Jackson just jam Brandon cooks and make sure you don't get beat on the go ball. And you'll have help to the inside on some of the other in breaking stuff that they run with Brandon cooks, posts, deep overs, things like that. And just make Davis mills look like Davis mills, right? That's really all it has to happen here in this game and they probably win this game. Regardless of what is offensive line. Right. If they lose it's because it's a massive breakdown upfront offensively. Anything short of that, there's no reason for them to lose this game. Yeah. They will have to worry a little bit about outside zone running in this game. David culley coming from Baltimore, knows how to scheme it up in the run game from being with Lamar Jackson and the ravens. He obviously doesn't have Lamar Jackson. Texans had Tyrod Taylor starting in this game and be a lot more interesting to be honest with you..

"Talk about last year that I think it was on EEI that appearance at bell CheckMate where he blamed the cap for reasons that they couldn't add more talent to the roster? That would just wasn't a Belichick thing to do. Was to come up with excuses. And he was like, oh, it's not an excuse. I'm just telling the truth. Fair enough, but there was a lot of instances with this team last year that really just wasn't backwards. They should have hit a hard reset last year without Brady. And they didn't do that and they end up putting themselves in a pretty difficult situation with Stefan Gilmore by hanging on to the players. So I think I look back at a lot of this vision as history with trades like the Jimmy G trade or the fact that a Brady and Gronk left for pennies on the dollar if you want to call it that. And look at those situations very differently. That was Bill chasing rings, where Jimmy G, he prioritized and valued Garoppolo as a backup and potential successor to Brady more than just getting a higher draft pick for him in a return. He tried to take trade, Rob Gronkowski. Rob Gronkowski wouldn't let him trade him, right? He said, the only person that I, that I'm going to play a quarter, you know, play for quarterback is Tom Brady. Or I'm going to retire. If they trade me to Detroit, I'm just going to retire. That's what Gronk said. And that really forced their hand to keep him in that situation. So the ground thing should not be on this list at all. He tried to trade him. And he wouldn't let him trade him. But with guys like Garoppolo and Brady, Joe Tunis name has come up a bunch right because they franchise tag them last year and then they didn't hand in the contract this year. I think that those guys are in a different categories, maybe not tuning, but Gilmore and specifically this needed to be done last year. And I think that's why we have gotten where we have gotten. And then on the flip side, just moving on from this, the Patriots trade Stefan Gilmore and one breath say they can't come up with an agreement with this contract, get only a 6th round pick in return. And then they bring Jamie Collins back this week to play a linebacker for them. So now this is a little bit of a weird situation too. Collins really doesn't count against the cap. I think he counts like a 100,000 against something. It's not even a perfect cap, right? It's just about what direction as an organization are you going in right now? Clearly, Belichick is going in a direction of, as he always says, we're doing what's best for the football team to win as many games as possible this year. But you can't say that on one hand that we're doing what's best for the football team to win as many games as possible and bring back Jamie Collins, but not pay Stefan Gilmore, right? I mean, those two things are contradictory. And so they bring back Jamie Collins who's going to take whether we want to kind of own up to this or not Alex. Jamie Collins is going to take reps away from guys like Josh uche, right? Joshua Jay is not going to play as much..

"I'm Evan Lazar joined as always by Alex barth and Alex. We got a bunch of things to talk about today before we get into the game against the Houston Texans, the Patriots. Obviously, there's so much to get into in that game. The Patriots obviously traveling down to Houston on Sunday for a game against the lowly Texans. So we will discuss the game here in a bit, but we want to start with some of the bigger picture topics that happened on the team this week. Mainly beginning with the Stefan Gilmore trade in the Stefan Gilmore trade fallout here. I wanted to discuss quickly the sports radio topic right now Alex is about Bill Belichick and maximizing assets, right? And his failure in a couple of different instances over the last couple of years to get the most out of his good veteran players. Guys like Gilmore, I certainly somebody like Jimmy Garoppolo's name comes up every single time. We get into this conversation. So there's that angle of it, and there's also the angle of the domino effect on the Patriots defense and where the paths go from here, specifically, I would say with JC Jackson, but starting with the maximizing assets conversation. The Gilmore situation, I feel is very different than some of the other situations that people are comparing it to. And I'll tell you why in a second. But first and foremost, going back to Jimmy G, Brady's name has been thrown out there. Gronk's name has been thrown out there. To me, those situations were different because Bill Belichick was hanging on to those players to win football games with those players. And in a way I think he did the same thing was to find Gilmore as well. Bill clearly is prioritizing having those players on his football team for as long as possible over maximizing trade value more than the public that wants to come out and say, they should have gotten more for Jimmy G, or they shouldn't have led Tom Brady walk and only get a comp pick back. Clearly Belichick cared more about sucking a dry with Brady for as long as humanly possible than a trading the greatest quarterback of all time to get a first round pick back instead of a third round pick. And I don't really blame him for that. With the Gilmore situation, what I blame him for on this or second guess on this is not, I guess overrating his team, right?.

"Premium price 7 million plus for a goalie. I mean, granted all marks not that. He's 5, but you could have gotten away with paying what you're paying swimming and had all this money to play with elsewhere. They went with goalie, not, again, not exactly where people thought that money would necessarily go. Forget whether it's three out of four or whatever. If it was close enough where you're really scratching your head think, who should be the guy? I can't understand that move at all. I don't understand it, then, you know, and it's not just a hindsight play. I didn't believe all Mark was going to be so head and shoulders above. Swimming that had justified it justified to spend at the time. Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean, I think you look at the risk of, let's say you went with swam and you went all in the youth movement and had swam and Dan vladar. Like that is very, very risky for a team hoping to make another deep cup run to hope that swim and pans out and vada will back up. But as you say, you didn't have to sign a guy like oh mark if, you know, pick the plenty of 33 plus year old veterans who would be willing to sign on a one or two year deal. That very well could have been an option. So from the bruins, it's one not expecting any Swami to take this step forward. I mean, I feel like when we talk about swimming, I'm still gonna have that cautious outlook. We're gonna be talking in November. He's gonna be like 9 and one with like a one goals again. So I'm still gonna be like, well, you still gotta wait. Maybe I'm just being way too cautious, maybe that's how the bruins are thinking, but again, you look at how the money is allocated and the fact that probably gonna have to use some of that cap room later in the year to address whether it's strength down the middle and other defensemen. You have a guy like old Mark and let's say he's, again, the number two guy getting 35% of the reps in.

"We'll try to talk once again here on this show on Friday, recapping game one and we'll see where the Red Sox stand after that. Sean thanks a lot. Thanks, John. All right, switching gears to hockey. Let's bring in Connor Ryan and Connor. We've got a goalie controversy of sorts with the Boston Bruins and actual legitimate competition between the presumed starter Linus all Mark and the kid. Jeremy swimming for who's going to be the number one heading into their exhibition game tonight, we're looking at all Mark starting, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's got the job locked down. Yeah, no, absolutely. And if anything, this final preseason game is going to be his maybe best shot at holding on to that number one spot. If you ask me at the start of training campus, and I get the number one nod, I would have easily said, oh Mark, I mean, as much as swimming as promising as he looked down the stretch last year, Omar's a veteran, he handed them $20 million. Makes a lot of sense he gets the starting nod, but I mean, Bruce Cassidy said it himself that if you look at just the baseline numbers from invent much better, he's been coming down on rebound issues. His lateral movements been great. Hasn't exactly been that. And it's not just, you know, that that OT kind of mess up he had in that game against the rangers. Some of the other things the basic guy test of the rebounds and, you know, not sealing off the post. Little things like that that when you weigh compared to swimming, I think The Rookie has the edge right now. Now, of course, is this the end of the world if swimming bumps them for a start? No, it's kind of like the opening day starting pitcher in baseball, right? Like, it's more of just like an honorary title. You want the veteran to have it, but what matters more is who's starting in the playoffs and if swimming right now against the opening nod, doesn't mean that's going to be what it's going to be when you get to the postseason. Sure. And yes, it might be ceremonial and who starts game one, but ultimately the you have an alpha usually in goaltending tandems..

"In bonuses. A most trusted name in online gambling up to 25 years so make sure you head over there once again, use that code BS J, get your bonuses now up to 200%. Greg, thanks a lot. No problem. All right, switching gears to baseball where the Red Sox should have been the lead story today, but the Patriots always have to step in and steal some thunder shun . But hey, look, they did it. All of the concern, everything that we had spoken about talked about leading up here, Red Sox took care of business at home against the Yankees in a one game wild card in a very fun environment, which you were there and got to take in. And honestly, relatively, you know, breezy game for them. They get out to an early lead of all these lights out. They make a key defensive play, and the Yankees didn't really put up a ton of fight where you surprised how this game went. Yeah, I thought this was going to be a more competitive game, maybe very much in doubt going down to the last three or 6 outs and that wasn't the case from the Bogart's home run in the first. They took the lead. They never trailed. Most of the night was a multi run lead, so you built in a little comfort factor there. You know, if Alex Cora had attempted to draw up how he wanted the night to go, I suspect it would have looked very much like what we saw. Yeah, I'd say the one thing for sure, maybe not having to get quite so many outs from your bullpen, but to their credit three and two thirds innings and they acquitted themselves incredibly well. It looked like a valdi was gonna get them through 6, possibly even 7 the way he was throwing. But other than that, yeah, I mean, just such a clean game by the Red Sox, which really obviously bodes well moving forward. Now taking.

"Right now. What happens if JC Jackson gets hurt? What? Now, Jalen mill, Sean wade, what this new guy that they signed into practice squad. Like, give me a break. They are in Dire Straits. They are a worse team today because they don't have stuff on Gilmore, and they got buckets to show for it. Not the and that's the thing is why make excuses for this. Fine, they played okay against Tampa. And the well, given the circumstances, there really was no market for Gilmore. But that's why you trade them early, like that's the job. So what I don't get here is, you know, a lot of people assume that the coach slash GM is above reproach with all of his personnel decisions and build those best in this and that. But there's no accountability or transparency with decisions like this. Who's going to question him on it? You think Kraft's going to knock on the door and be like, hey, Bill, so what happened there? It just kind of happens and you move on. But the thing and again, I don't know of all the reports or whatever it is before they believe the fact that it sounds like Gilmore's going to play under his current contract and Carolina when the assumption was he wasn't going to play here until he got a raise. Starts to make you think. He just wasn't playing for this team in this guy here. Let me explain that. Let me explain all of it. And because I have very good sourcing on this whole thing. And so this is how it went down. So the Patriots on the yesterday started to make some calls to some friendly people that, hey, you want Gilmore? What will you get? No takers. The Patriots were, I don't know what they were asking for, but it was a very high bar. So this morning, they got no takers. This morning, they decide to open up the bidding. That's why you leaked the news that you're going to release him at 8 o'clock in the morning because you have until 4 o'clock. The Patriots thought, so they got some calls. Maybe talk some parameters, but the Patriots were still had a high bar. They were basically bluffing. They thought somebody was going to get desperate that somebody else was going to jump and head of them and they would get decent compensation. Probably around the three to four range. Didn't happen, the clock was ticking, the Patriots knew it. And so they basically went back to a team that they had heard from early on in Carolina and they took what Carolina's offer, which was a 6 round pick. As far as I know, and this is going off of league sources who were involved in this, they think that was the only offer that the Patriots got on Stefan Gilmore. So they got the Patriots tried to bluff their way to more compensation. It didn't happen. Now on Gilmore, I am told from an excellent source on this again involved in these negotiations. Because I asked the question too, I was like, well, so is he getting a bump and pay? Is it getting a contract extension? That's the only way that he would okay. Well, I mean, Stefan's going back home. But that's a piece that he wanted to. And that's why he wouldn't be.

"40 million for two years. For JC Jackson, if I am his agent, and the Patriots come to me on a contract extension, that is where I start. Right. 40 million guaranteed the first two years, because that's the corner that they have painted themselves into and so they continue to be screwed at the cornerback position. There are no other cornerbacks in the pipeline that's probably why they traded for Sean wade from the ravens. We don't even know whether he can play. He has not been active yet, but that's where they are. They paint themselves in the corner and they don't have enough. John, I was excited. One of the things I was optimistic about at one in three was, okay, if they can go through this, whatever. Then they get stuff on Gilmore back. All right, now you add in Jamie Collins, he'll help a little bit. Okay, and the guys are getting better. Now I can see it. Now no Stefon Gilmore in week 7 or 8. That's not good. It's not good at all. No, this is a, this is a massive step back in a lot of ways. And again, just head scratching. All day long, it hasn't gotten any better or any clear or just just a botch just to miss. I don't know. You said it a hundred different ways, so I don't know how else to put it here. Greg, thanks for joining on. I just want to tell everybody again at home sponsor, bet U.S. use the code BS J at bet U.S. dot com up to 200% in bonuses. NFL action. I guess you could have bet on Gilmore's next team for about ten minutes, but that resolves itself pretty quickly. NFL, you know, we've got NHL NBA starting up MLB playoffs, horses, MMA, what do you got Greg? John, one thing. I just wanted to explain because I'm sure people were falling with my tweets today. And early on, I said, I'd be shocked if Gilmore wasn't traded. This is after you know, yeah, I was following that. And then just said he's going to be he's going to be released. I said, he's shot. I'd be shocked that if he wasn't traded, which he was. And I said that the favorites and league circles was the packers. So just to explain that, along with the whole scenario that I laid out before, so let's just say for hypothetical reasons. Your team that's interested in acquiring a cornerback like Stefan Gilmore. So you call the Patriots the Patriots are asking for the moon. Say a third round pick. And they're like, screw that. We'll just wait till these released..

"And Greg, what the F man, everyone wakes up today, just a normal day, right? You're riding high off a Red Sox victory. Everyone's feeling pretty good and boom. Patriots to release Stefan Gilmore. Didn't end up being a release he ended up being traded to Carolina for a 6th round pick. But what a freaking disaster this situation is recapping for everybody at home. He's on the pup. You expect he's coming back, working on a possible contract extension, who knows, but you're expecting. At some point or another, you're going to have your number one corner back on the field playing out the season and instead, gone for virtually nothing. Yeah, well, I mean, some of us were trying to sleep this morning after being a Fenway Park very late last night. On top of the Sunday Night football game. And then all of a sudden I'm getting text from like you. 9 30, you know, 9, 9 30 in like, you know, we need to talk about Gilmore. I'm like, what? And then I looked at my phone and I had a text from a very plugged in NFL source who was actually involved in these negotiations and just straight out told me hearing Gilmore's going to Green Bay. So I mean, we could talk about the mechanics of the deal, but just overall, this is just a complete positive get here, right. It's about the deal. How in the world does Bill Belichick get here with this player at this time? Not only getting no return, but right. Not doing something earlier last year's trade deadline whenever I know the injury complicated things, but this is an absolutely blown asset. You get nothing in return and you don't get the services of the player who is still one of the best players in his position. John, how did we get here? It's another and a long line of Bill Belichick being way, way, way too late, then too early. He used to be got to be the best in the business because he was too early on everything. Sure. You know, he saw everything ahead of time. Now he's behind. I mean, you go back to you go back to Joe toney. Joe toney was a guy that I was warning for years. You need to take care of them or you need to trade him or else you're not going to get anything. They let Joe Tony walk Anton Brady and he's involved in this too. They let them both walk in the same year. The same year that they spend a $175 million. So you're not getting any compensatory picks out of either of those deals. You're not even getting comp picks from those. And so, you know, Joe tuni was way too late. He should have been traded the year before if you knew what was going to happen. Tom Brady, what people, one thing that people don't talk about is the Patriots could have had Tom Brady play his final season under his deal. It was there, it was pennies. It was like $11 million, I think. But they could have made them play for that. Instead, they give them more money. They tack on two more dummy years. They add on even more dead cap. And they basically did the same thing almost with stuff on Gilmore, at least now they're letting him play to the end of his deal. But you know, I mean, he's going to play for somebody else under the end of his deal. And this was Stefan Gilmore, we all know. He should have been traded at the trade deadline last year. It was the height of his powers..

Yeah, it's also added that Gilmore will start training camp on the p u p list. But for the time being this marks, the end of Gilligan's contract. Holdout Gilmore was seeking a raised from the team, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting that. No new contract is imminent for Gilmore, but obviously, the two sides are near or some sort of an agreement to keep Gilmore happy. As he has reported to Gillette Stadium and to the team officially which means that that hold out. Once again is over Gilmore is rehabbing a table. In Quad surgery, which ended his 2020 season, obviously, so he's currently on the p. U p list, but he can come off the p u p list at anytime joining. Gilmore on the p. Devin Smith quarterback Jarrett, Stidham and linebacker Chase winovich. Last two days, they're pretty big for the Patriots and their training camp, as we move forward. Winovich though, I can report is not expected to stay on the p. O p list for long. You'll be good to go sooner rather than later age. That's good news on window. As far as Jared system, goes not great news for a quarterback. That's truly fighting for a roster spot at this point, maybe even as the third quarter back on the roster. "That's exactly what I wrote in my piece list was dead and read it. Yeah, John Isabel, I will, John, is ability to do so many different things in line up in so many different places and be so versatile is going to a gym. Josh McDaniels to really set the matchups and really morph the lights, right? You can be twelve Personnel, he can be Twenty-One Personnel, he can be 11 personnel. All with Jake be 10 person out because they can put Johnny Whitetail back and have him run the football out of the backfield so they can be or I guess whatever you get my point. They can be so many different things with you on the field that that versatility is I think going to be key to their identity as an offense. Right? I think their identity is going to be like it is when when they were their best where this chameleon offense, right where everything and you're going to have to prepare for everything, but I think that Hunter Henry is going to be the more reliable Target in the passing game, even a Johnny was sort of the schemed weapon. So I think that they're both going to be extremely important. That's why they both made the list. But but that's, you know, a long answer to this question of, you know, who's going to be have the bigger issue. Fact, I kind of agree with the way, what you said was, John has got the bigger schematic impact, but hunter Henry's, the high leverage Target, right? So it's sort of. They both are going to be very very impactful home, last question. And then we're going to do our quick Boston Sports minute here at the end of the show. But I like this question from Mike with all the defensive additions. Do you think defense can get pressure up front with outlets in because Bill Belichick? No matter who? Unless it's Matt Patricia calling plays, the Patriots have been a team that when they have the versatility and they have the depth and they've experienced that they have up front. Right now are a very attack-minded front seven, a team, that is definitely a blitz, heavy team now. They do did go out inside Jude on, they brought Kyle Van Noy back, they have Joshua J. Now in the pass, rush Dante Hightower is obviously back in the mix Christian barmore. I think is a big one on one winner in terms of on the edge. Zipline Dietrich wise can win a little bit one on one. But I still think that this is going to be a pressure from scheme, cover on Talent type of team just like kind of the 2015 Patriot and the 2018 Patriot defense for. Yeah, this is a really good question. I, I do think they're going to be able to get some pressure without blitzing. I think, what's more important is they're going to be able to get pressure off with the blitz sending v as opposed to 6 or 7. I think they're five man. Rush is going to be incredibly impressive because when you look at I mean I'll just go off top. My head starting for. But you can you can introduce these young guys, it's call it Wiseguy, Wiseguy, Wiseguy Vinoy and Juden, right? So those are your for, you know, lineman outside line, Edge rushers, whatever those four guys are coming. But then in that second level you have Kyle Duggar, Joshua, Adrian Phillips..

"I'm trying to say and I just dead. I am fascinated by Cassius Marsh that he continues to come like make himself the story and continues to get us to talk about him, continues to have him. Write headlines about a player that was your one for a couple of games and games. Yeah, nine games and it it's just fascinating to me that that this guy continues to talk about the Patriots and he knows it's the motion, is the way to make himself the most relevant, right? He knows that this is the only way he's going to be relevant. So he continues to do it and despite years and years of sort of, you know, an exact notes and evidence to the contrary that at teams don't like players players, don't like playing here that this is too hard of a program here. It's too hard for some people it's not for everybody. I think Deion Branch is the one that that said that this week after the March comments that not everybody's going to love playing in England but true football players, love it and gnome Funny, nobody comes away from the Patriots, besides guys like March and says that they were mistreated or not fairly treated, you know what I mean. And, and, and so you're not allowed to look at your phone in a meeting. You shouldn't be allowed to look at your phone during a meeting. This is you're supposed to be a paying attention to your job. At your boss is sitting up there. Talking during a meeting, you're not going to sit there on a cell phone texting all the time the whole time, right? Like any one of us is also going to stay off our phones, but that's enough about Cassius Marsh. We we've given him, you know? Again it. Yes, it's not for everybody, but I'll go back to this. He was cuz I'll talk about Cassius Marsh. I won't give him the time of day about his comments on Patriot's. He was a good player in Seattle. He played a very key role in Seattle on a good defense. For three years, came to New England for nine weeks, he's been a journeyman since clearly whatever happened to him in New England, you know, screwed him up and, you know, again, five teams and four years job, That old antidote. If you have a bad story about every roommate you've ever had your probably The Bad Roommate. Yeah. I mean let's talk about something to kill Harry stuff. "And then I also think they have something William, Sherman. So, the starters are great, the depth is great. I mean, they could get really decimated by injuries, I guess, but you can't. I don't know that you could build a much better offense of line group than they have in place right now. I feel really good about it. We'll see if one of those veterans, like an Alex Redmond makes the team that would just pump it up a little more. But I, I really like this group. I can't find a fault with this group. Yeah, it's a great group page. I think the best part about it is that there is a lot of flexibility with Mike on when you. And that's why an idea, my most important Patriots list that I had a mom. There was a because he's really good player, but be Faith Villa T. Okay, let's say, cuz I think the biggest sort of question mark, what I was kind of alluding to is Isaiah wins injury concern, right? And Grant Brown, I would say also recently with the Las Vegas. Raiders did not play all 16 games for Vegas, either over the last couple of years, so both of those guys are prone to injuries. And the great thing that the Patriots have now he's not going to play left tackle but if God I say when gets hurt you bump Tramp around back over to left tackle you move, you know, on when you out to right tackle, Ted Karras comes into the starting lineup and The Beat Goes On right, right? Martin's all these different passwords and I think on when you, and then also care is being the sixth guy, right? Having him as your sort of top back up to the interior spots, he's a starting-caliber offensive lineman at the Patriots are going to suck, As a top back up which is a great problem to have or a great luxury to have, I should say. So they have depth, they have versatility, they can swing it, you know, with whichever way they need transferred to swing. I just, I don't know. It's it's kind of hard to find a flaw. In this offensive line isn't top five. Is it top one? Is it the best line in the league? I mean, I don't know. Those rankings are always subjective but I think it's going to be up there with the best lines and football. And, and I would say they will have a case by the end of the year to be the best line in football. I can't imagine there's a group home, maybe there's a group that has more top-end Talent, maybe there's a group that has more depth like individually. I can't imagine there's a group that has both that has both the, the high-end Talent on the, in the Stars group with, you know, David Andrews, Shaq, Mason Trent brown. But then also has the depth provided by guys, like Ted Karras Michael. And when do even though he's a starter with his position of flexibility, I would also consider a depth piece off. I doubt there's any group that's pairing those two elements together as well as the Patriots are. Okay, so I want to get onto these Cam Newton comments this morning. He went on with Keyshawn, Johnson, do have a little break down here for what it's worth Night Football but it's a big deal. Okay, red sox-yankees has been postponed tonight due to the Yankees having that issue. Oh wow..

"And again, I look at their in a similar position and I wonder do, they not get a Gilmore because of his age string Jackson along as much as they can without committing heavy, heavy money to him. And then, you know, pick a quarter next year. And then the next two free agency classes and not. All of these guys to hit, but Denzel Ward, to ear, Alexander Marshon Lattimore. These guys are all about to need new deals, whether they get re-signed or not, but you know, the pack have to re-sign everybody. Everybody on that, roster is up in the next two years to Darius Smith Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers. Obviously there might need to be something with his contract. I know they say, you can tweak the cap wage. You can't pay everybody. So do they let your Alexander walk in New Orleans? Their cap situation is about to be legendary mess. They may not be able to pay March's one that I would want to. Yeah, that's the one I would look, if I don't think g r. I was enters getting out of Green Bay. He he's probably don't think so, poor stranger things, maybe twenty-five in the league. Who would, who would rather keep to your Alexander or Davante Adams? I mean, they can't figure especially if Aaron Rodgers, isn't there be on this year? They, they would have Jordan love on their rookie contracts. Like, I feel like they have to find. They could find a way to make that one. Yeah, I got home again, so you get my point. You don't get you, don't let guys like G or Alexander, twenty-four twenty-five year-old shut down, right? Walk out the door Marshon Lattimore is already on his, what third contract. Now in the NFL package. Yes, he has for void years so he's on the last year of his deal. Yeah, he has a door void years after this so it is going to be incredibly hard to extend him. So again to go back to my point. I wonder if the Patriots game Look at some of these Corners that are scheduled to come up and just kind of string JC Jackson along until they can go. And and you know, give the Brinks truck to a True Ace and free agency and then go into the draft this year and get, you know, whoever would be the next JC Jackson that situation next Malcolm Butler. That one be guy. All right, so last Point here because all the chatter and the chat right now, Alex is about Stephon Gilmore in this situation. So we'll keep it there for one more question. And that's just, let's just say Stephon Gilmore isn't there and and I think you've made the point in. I think it's a good one. That even if Stephon Gilmore is here, they still need a Thursday outside corner. And let's say, Stephon Gilmore or Jesse Jackson were to get hurt, you still have to look at the scenario of what's the depth like there and who is behind those two guys regardless of Gilmore's here. And not where is your comfort level or maybe your Panic meter. If a guy like Jalen Mills or Joanne Williams has to play significant snaps for the Patriots, this year and outside corner, you know males. I think we played at safety. Yep. Mills and Mills is going to play and yeah, he should be playing safety. John Williams is the question because he's going to have to play..

"Matter of fact, I opened down the field, it's just not. So you're looking at without Gilmore, you're probably looking at another seven, eight win season, a 500 season. You need to really be able to energize your rebuild on the other side and come out and really I, you know, Go full send in 2022. So I would not trade Gilmore. I, you know, short of two. First, I also don't think that's realistic what they can get for him. I'm thinking right now like a second and 1/4 4 a.m. and a 6 would be the deal but at the same time and this goes to what we were talking about before. If xavien Howard goes for two firsts, Maybe a first-round pick, for Gilmore is realistic. It's going to. If Howard gets dealt, I think that resets the price for Gilmore at the same time. If how it goes for a second, you probably do more than 1/3. And at that point, it's not worth trading it at all. I don't think that would happen. If anything the team probably over pays for Howard versus Under paying for them but the market could be with it's so rare. 52 elite players at the same position on the market at the same time even if they're in different situations is a very similar situation. So the market can change like that if one of these guys get moved. So the other kind of the reason why I brought up this the whole comp it formula and stuff like that, is the Patriots. Theoretically, Stephon Gilmore does not have a No Tag clause in his contract, right? So the picture is theoretically could franchise tag Stephon Gilmore. After the season of the two sides, can't reach a long-term deal. And as we've seen in the past here in New England, You can flip a player on the tag, right? You can trade a player on the tag and the team would have until today was the deadline this year were at what July 15th. So the team have that acquired him in a trade would have until about mid July to work out a long-term extension to get that cap number down. So that's really what I feel like is another possibility here was 2500 more is at the Patriots, either tag him to play him on the tag next year, or reach a long-term extension with him themselves or they could even move him on the tag at that point as well. I think that that's a really interesting proposition to now. Miguel, hang on. Let me ask you this. Who would you fast-forward here from now? Who would you rather tags to find Gilmore JC Jackson? Cuz they're both up page. Rather tag Stephon Gilmore and give JC Jackson a longer-term extension, right? So you're you're willing to pay Jackson, I think you can pay Jackson a reasonable amount..

"You know, you could you could get for 1 year, you could get the same level of play that you get with Howard but you don't have to give up the big time compensation. Right? Yeah, no, I think that that's that's possible as well again. It's just the two are going to be interconnected. I was surprised cuz when I saw that yesterday and I kind of put it out like, hey, I bet these two will be linked and then I realized the reporter been out there for an hour and I was surprised nobody had mentioned it because I don't see how those two situations could happen in Iraq and leave each other. I think you're absolutely tied together. I think that down in one Patriots Place. They will have a very close eye and what's going on in Miami Vice Versa. And I don't think either side is going to want to break first, because once one of those deals gets done, a trade is made on one side. Whether it's New England or Miami, the other side loses a ton of Leverage. So I I think that they're, they're going to want to, they're going to want to wait on that. Yeah. And that's just from a longevity of the contract standpoint from a years. Maybe, it's defined Gilmore's agent and Stephon Gilmore I necessarily looking at saving, Howard, as a calm, but from a Navy standpoint wage. More. They're going to look at it and say, hey, what we know that you're, we're not going to sign our guy to a five year contract. Like you might sign xavien Howard but we want the same number, just for two years or three years, minimum wage. I think that's what you're looking at. I think that the AV will likely be Gilmore's might even be higher. Because if you're going to go five years on Howard one or two years with Gilmore, he may actually be able to get slightly more money. If he gives up a year, right? I think realistically he'd probably want three or four if he gives up a year, he may be able to get more per year than Howard does. So the other question here that as we get into some of these questions again, drop your questions in the chat, we're now going to open it up to all your questions and we're going to answer as many as we can, so make sure to drop them in there and we'll get to them as we go here. But this is a really interesting point by by Christopher Gilmore's health and how that sort of factors into all of this. I think we all he did have offseason quad surgery. He told Josina Anderson that he's basically all. Yep. Back, you know, he said that he could report the camp if he had to, that's a leveraged play, right? That's not necessarily that he's not healthy. It's it's it's a piece of Leverage in the negotiation, but how much talk about Gilmore's age? Being a big-time impact on his next contract and and and or in a trade in terms of compensation? But how worried are you about the injury? Because thirty-year-old corner where there's tons of studies out there where this tends to be either this year or next year? The clip is coming for Stephon Gilmore, right? Yeah, what was the number? We did this a couple of weeks ago was like, eleven Corner over the age of Thirteen, The League last year, so less than one per team..

"And we're going to start today by talking about a little Stephon. Gilmore slash xavien Howard conversation here in Miami. Dolphins corner is also unhappy with his contract in Miami and then we will get into some of your questions. So if you have questions drop them in the live chat. We're going to have an opening thought here on the Howard Keel more situations and then we'll filled all the questions that we can over the next hour or so. Continue to it. Keep asking those questions and we'll definitely get to them soon but Alex Mike silver of NFL Network. Yep. They tweeted out a thread about xavien Howard, who last year was an All-Pro corner for the Miami Dolphins. Led, the league in interceptions, led the league and interceptions plus pass breakups. One of the best on-ball defenders in the entire National Football League, right? When he's targeted, nobody plays the ball better than xavien Howard with a few exceptions, maybe but he signed in 2019 at age twenty-six, a 5 year, 75.25 million dollar contract that puts him at a shade over 15 million dollars a year and after having that terrific season last year done South Beach, he wants a new deal and it sounds like there's at least been some preliminary talks with teams reaching out to Miami to see if you would be available in a trade because he is unhappy with his contract. This obviously does directly relate although Howard's a few years younger than Stephon Gilmore, it does relate to Stephon Gilmore. What Gilmore's asking price might be and what also he might dead The trade, if the Patriots did start to shop him because they couldn't resolve the contract situation, so just kind of a domino effect here of Howard, also making him known that he is unhappy with this contract down, and it can happen without anything happening down effect, right? Because whatever happens with how weird is going to affect Gilmour. And vice versa, Howard slightly younger, he had all proceeds and more recently, 20 20 2019. So in terms of overall value, Howard probably does have the edge right now. So if he were to sign first, right? That sets off ceiling for Gilmore if he gets traded, that lets the Patriots know the ceiling of what they can expect back for Gilmore. Now the reverse is true too. If something happens with Gilmore first it sets a flash for Howard, whether it be through contract or trade. So and I wrote about this for 98.5, The Sports Hub, this morning, you can check.

Patriots at Dolphins: Alain Poupart breaks down Miami's running game
"The Houston was really the only team I would say that actually through on the Patriots effectively this year and DeShaun Watson besides Russell Wilson all the way back in week two thousand. I am curious, you know, the Dolphins do they have a running game. Do you think that they can do that with because I don't see it, but I don't want to I don't want to be biased over here. Either way. I mean, there are 30 second in the league in rushing yards per attempt. They were missing their top three rushing leaders last Sunday against the Chiefs. What's a be perfectly blunt? None of them are impact players Matt breida came off the covid-19. Wednesday obviously he'll be back. When he hasn't made much of an impact after coming over from the 49ers in the in the trade Myles Gaskin is on the Cove in list and he's a nice story as a second-year seventh-round pick who laughs basically got a cup of coffee in terms of playing time this year and he basically became their feature back and he's got some ability. But in a in an Ideal World Cup gasket is your backup is now your future back in this is what the Dolphins are dealing with our offensive line. Also a good story much better than was last year. They're starting three rookies with Austin Jackson am handsome in kinloch. but when you start three rookies pretty much ninety-nine percent of the time you're going to go through some growing pains and their offensive line while again exponentially better than what last year is still not great. Let's say it's worked in like but they're not a whole lot of big old being open in the running game and you don't have running backs off will make a lot of things happen on their own. So there's a reason again there there are thirty-second in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt and complicating matters. This week is they have injury issue is that wide receiver position where they also have a lot of players but not a whole lot of impact players. So you mentioned might get sick you earlier I believe and now he's got a shoulder injury where we can't get any Clarity from Ryan Flores as to his status for this week. It's all we'll see is working on all that. But if you saw the injury really really hard to Envision him playing cards Devante Port Parker pulled a hamstring or had a hamstring injury against the Chiefs you came out in the first app did not return. He practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, so hopefully play it but then if he plays this carrying a hamstring injury. And then so who else do you have left after that now you're looking at your team Grant who is more of a return specialist and and then their shuttle pass receiver gadget Play type of player on offense. He's also got a hamstring injury that knocked him out of Chiefs game. And then the rest of the wide receiver Corps is rookie limbo Junior who played multiple positions at Kentucky. You have a Mack Hollins who want to sign as a special-teams standout, which he is. He's very going to special teams but more so than the receiver and then you have one of the guys being talked up being able to make a major contribution as Isaiah Ford who you may remember from his three weeks with the Patriots after the acquired immune to trade in his office. I knew he was he didn't play it down for the Patriots. I knew how long is not going to last year when he got up here and he said it is freezing. I need a winter coat, you know, what am I going to do? And I just said look, I'm sure he's a fine football player. I'm sure he could make an impact on the team that needs wide receiver help but this guy does not seem like he wants to be in New England right now. Well, no, but he plays at Virginia Tech. So I'm so he's not like dead. He's from Jacksonville plant in Virginia tag, so it's not like he's not he's never been the call before and the thing about Isaiah Ford and then it was often friends are thinking. Well, Isaiah Ford is going to come and rescue the the passing game and that like life. He's a really really really nice good. And he might be in the league for ten years because he's got a great attitude. He works hard doesn't see anything. He's not an impact player. And right now this is what they have their wide receiver Corps. If she doesn't play they have nobody who's going to really scare the Patriots defense and if you you throughout the city also doesn't play. I mean who makes things happen on this office on Sunday? So that that's a big

Stephon Gilmore Got Very Close To Patrick Mahomes After Patriots-Chiefs Game
"I had to open up the show talking about the NFL and Covic how and when are they going to get their act together? We might have some more cancellations this upcoming Sunday. Stefan Gilmore test positive. The Titans Cory Davis test positive, but Titans don't know how to follow the rules they even looks like went to a school to practice. After their own facility was shut down. And by the way, Stefan Gilmour, who did he say hi to On Monday night Football. Face to face after the loss. He got up close and personal to Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes. I mean, this is what Patrick Mahomes had to say about coming in close contact with Stefan Gilmore Monday night. It up too much of a game and just get in the high five. Like I would. I've done my whole career and not thinking about. It was a little bit of a mental lapse just going to be so sportsmanship and stuff like that, But I mean, I feel like the protocols in place. They're good, and I'm trusting that where my mask do whatever rigging them say and then then just trust and we don't all know what what's happening in this world this time, But just to accept the challenge every single day of being On the best place. I could be to be available for the team. Yeah, more mental lapses like that will lead to a complete disaster this NFL season and not just from the players but from the teams in the league itself.

Boston - Stephon Gilmore Tests Positive For COVID; Patriots Cancel Practice
"Is falling we had what everyone probably could have expected was going to happen, which is a positive test involving a member of the New England Patriots following up the two positive tests. They had late last week or earlier a few days ago with Cam Newton and and and after that Bill Murray practice squad d e l it's Stephon Gilmore who tests positive on a well actually tested positive on Tuesday. Everyone found out about it on Wednesday when you received a second test and now we have a full-blown cold crisis on our hands involving the Patriots and possibly the rest of the NFL in addition to this you had two more positive test with the Titans who are complete mess right now and at risk of missing their second straight game And you have a positive test with the Raiders. So this is starting to fall apart Dragon. It's not really a surprise to you or to anyone know, you know, look John we talked about before and and going into the Patriots game. I thought it was I thought it was completely stupid that they played the game against the Chiefs that they force-fed it down everyone's throats because we just I didn't know what could happen. I mean we knew that if people were contagious but asymptomatic like, you know, you you are at risk for something like this. So now not only do you have the Patriots dealing with something but something could happen with the Chiefs. I mean everybody's putting out there on Twitter, you know, Stephon Gilmore shaking hands getting real close with Patrick Mahomes after the game. I mean, that's just great. I mean, let's just let's just like the whole season on fire. I mean this is this is what we talked about. This is why I thought it was completely stupid that they ran that game down everyone's throat, which if they just said, you know, what wage We don't know what's going on. We we don't we don't know how this is going to spread. Let's just be careful for now. And let's just add a week 18 on and move Chiefs Patriots. Then give them a whole two weeks. Keep people quarantine all that stuff just to be safe because what we really don't want to have happen is two of our Marquee franchises to call become, you know, just on fire with this stuff and that's what we're getting right now. And it's just it was totally avoidable. It's it's a shame and now now we don't know what's going to happen because really we are now getting to a Tipping Point in the NFL that this could spiral out of control and could cost the season and what's amazing is again. It's a surprise to no-one but A way to have saved this off was to do the obvious thing and cancel this game and what we know as as far as the facts are concerned sure. You can't necessarily tie Gilmore directly to Newton wage, but the fact remains that he was reportedly one of the 20 players who had close contact with Newton as late as Friday and therefore placed on a separate plane flew off Kansas City with twenty other players in a plane. That's not great. Okay, and then they played a game and he's all up in Mahomes Grill after shaking his hands and then they fly home on a plane where the air circulation is, not terrific here. So that's what you've created. It would be stunning right now. If there weren't several other cases that pop up in a few days again, you cross your fingers after Newt and hoping all right, maybe it's isolated. But then you just invited this. So now we're looking at Practice canceled Wednesday. It looks like it's probably cancel dead. Tomorrow, I don't see any way they returned to the facilities here and this game is in Jeopardy as well as several others on the NFL slate here Greg and we throw up our hands and say what do they do now dead?
