"If you if you're like our age you know who eats sixes but it's a very short range of people who know sixes to this day. I'm just doing literally were not. If you're years in high school do not overlap with our years high school at some way. What would that mean. make it like an eight year. Range of like overlap right. You don't know who you've six don't either no heart and blender song or you don't know blender and that's that's it like it's crazy that people are acting like they know who the who sixes. Because sometimes i hear so. The night to euros to the night was also sort of like ballot but They are popular in the late and that he used to the we know that one yet hard into lender song and then that song late nineties early two thousands. This is who this band is and they are going off on twitter and the thing that the caller is talking about is there was a weird interaction specifically. i mean. they've been going around asking period at username. Blink blink. blink. Blink blink deal the heart blender song but like just trolling. Just like trolling rolling. Just like being very honestly. This is very like i gotta say this use of twitter. It's kind of also outdated in terms of like you know we're talking like weird twitter kind of lower case. You know whatever. But he's getting answers. People are responding. Vincent enough row was like What's what i don't like it. Hillary duff responded. No i was more of this other song. i mean. they're getting they're getting. They're getting play on this. They're getting play on. And so the thing that the caller is referring to is he was telling a story max again. It's alleged at this is maximum but telling a story about the third eye blind guy. Can you name the third eye blind guy by jenkins. Of course i can. Oh well you smarter than i am. Stephen jenkins he's bigger than the stephen jenkins was way more of a low. It's i'm sorry. But ask stephen jenkins is was way more of a thing and third eye blind was way more of a thing than eve. Six time and stephen jenkins did was more. I don't know lake. he married vanessa. Carlton how do i not know. Of course i know him anyway so he tells a story about third eye blind because they were sort of in the same category kind of but not really in the nineties were maybe they went on. They were on the same festival and museum zapped. But i would say blind was more prolific for more prolific. And they were a little older and they were better but the third eye blind guy had me fake arrested by a real cop alabama on tour because the night before i taken a big jar of candy from the front desk and said i'm the singer of third eye blind. I can do whatever i want. And they called his room at three. Am yelling at him to get the candy. Back number one. I do believe that story number two. It is a hilarious thing to do on tour with the third eye blind guy but then he goes on and says i have nothing but love for third eye blind guy. He's such an asshole. It's almost a generous. He was famously and asshole. Yes i wish. Rockstars like that still existed like there's an entertainment value abject. Should he personality. That's completely missing in today's culture order light altruism to be that much of a dick and i really. That's a funny sentiment. And i think that he is being completely honest or missing the gallagher brothers of rockstar. Currently where we have all the nice. We have all these nice guys. We need some villains because the oasis guys were always assholes. Steven jones was an asshole. Where we are assholes you know if we can if we can find a way to be a non-problematic astle like yeah that's true. There's a way to be an asshole without being lake and ali larter not like you just like just be mean without actually like ruining the lives and careers of other people. Think we do have that. In the form of some of our like diva talent in terms of being kind of like over the top diva not hard to please but like picky specific or whatever but for women that's that's villain is kind of a different way then for men which had just like. Oh he's a dick yeah yeah And arguably dick is more socially acceptable than. She's a diva even though the behaviors pretty much identical right geno. Oops this just gives me an excuse to play the pickle juice rent from nikki manezh so if i turn to a photo shoot and you and you got a fifty dollar close budget and some sliced pickles you want to know what no i am gonna leave. Is that wrong for wanting more for my style. Treat me with respect but you know what next time they know better but had i accepted the pickle juice. I would be drink pickle juice and right now when i am assertive bitch. When a man is a certif- he's a boss all star he blessed up. And why you can be a dick when you're a rockstar. And not when you're miles teller. There's a thin line. I want my rockstars to be dick's not my like weird. You know actors and stuff like that right maybe. This guy is positioning himself as a weird twitter dick and troll. And maybe that'll relaunch eve six career. Maybe they're pin. Tweet was pretty sure. We're gonna be huge again. So i love the pen tweet. Pretty sure we're going to be huge again. So that's what's going on. I just wanted to play a quick game. That's not really a game. Lindsey now a quickie dot really open the dangerous proposition so lindsay. This is not a game. It's more of a fill in the blank. I want to see how well you remember. The song inside out otherwise known as heart and a blender song because that is one of the lyrics and the single art is a heart in a blender calif the already. Well do you know why they call it eve. Six by the way. It's so embarrassing from x-files reverence embarrassing you embarrassing. Okay here we go read a lyric of eve. Six's inside and when i stop. I'm gonna see if you can fill it. This is gonna be a segment for some people who just like. What the fuck are you even have to play the song i would. I would swallow my pride. I would choke on the blank. Rind.

"Call the greatest front man of alternative views. I get them back with our. I did I I said we and these guys real before it. But I said when it comes to front, frontman and alternative rock and roll for my taste. I don't think anybody nails it like Stephen Jenkins. Does. I think I think you are head and shoulders not physically, but although that too above all the other front men in alternative, rock and roll music. That's legit. Keep going. So damn funny. I don't want to I don't want to strain your voice, I know, you've got a gig tonight. And it's all you you can't rely on the on the guys in the band. Not that you would anyways crowd can pick up. I'm sure I'm sure you'll be singing the Falsettoes and never let you go mica and you'll represent the show very well out there. But Stephen anything that we can pimp for you. What does this charity that you that you worked with for this song ten? Oh, well, it's for the Warhol museum. It's at our outreach program. And we were we when winter on tour. We a lot of times we'll go into galleries, and museums, and we just get inspired. So we were in one I guess we're in Pittsburgh. And we saw these kids they have like our reach program to inner city kids, and we saw all these kids in the museum just getting from seeing all this stuff. So we said, let's just give them the money. And then, you know, of course, month later, we're like what have we done? No, it's been great. So yeah, that's what did this round. And then we're in the studio down making a new record. Hopefully, we'll have that out next spring. But you know, how it goes? For terribly disorganized. Well, that's what makes good music though. And and I look forward to seeing you guys when you come back through town. Thank you again for making time. I know it's very rare to catch time with someone before they're about to go on stage, which you will tonight for ninety seven x at Janice. Live tell she's the one who made this happen. Which is pretty sweet I think I think the date is Friday the twenty eighth I'm going to be selling expired big ass burgers out of the back of my wrath for the corner. Boulevard and Tampa road. You're you're gonna eat those big ass burgers that are in the fridge today. Well, I'm only eating one. If someone's eating one with me, I can't do that. But they expired. This one day just one day. Yesterday. We walked by those last week. And I asked her go how how does somebody go about having one of those entrusting it without thinking twice? You miss. We were reading reviews of the big ass burger yesterday online in the phone lines. Just blew up with the people singing the praises of the big as burger I wish he was joking. He's not joking. The incarcerated loved it. I believe in institutional I'll go I'll eat it. Can I go? During the CBA jink to use that as an excuse not to make it tonight. You know what I mean? Like the guys burgers got me. John did a big ass burger and poss- what's wrong with you. Yeah. I mean, I think the biggest burgers finding what's one day over an expiration date. Mentioned with all the effort of getting to me. I don't I don't know, man. I don't feel good about you eating that burger. I think that's the thing is that the hotline. I got you ever think Stephen Jenkins has ever had a big as burger let's ask him right now. Hello, it's ju- grab alive. Beg your pardon. Oh, I said Hello. Yes, sir. Even from third eye blind. And I think I came in mid conversation. I heard big ass burger. I think that's what I just start. You definitely heard big ass. Burger. There is a there's a a vending machine that we have here. That's not your traditional vending machine. It's like the refrigerated type and there's a big as a z burger that expired yesterday, and and we've been talking about who would eat a burger from vending machine. What kind of an animal would do that yesterday. Many of our incarcerated or previously incarcerated listeners said that they had indeed eating those burgers, right? When we put you on. Stop right there. Disgusting. And I can't wait for three D printed meet when we're all beginning. I really can't wait three meat would be very good ethically. I'd feel a lot better about eating wood pulp flavored like me, then I would actual meat. So that that'd be good for me. Hey, thanks for making time for us. I really appreciate that. Dude. It's my pleasure. It's ours too. Because we found out that you're doing a solo gig for ninety seven Xmas tonight that does that Janice. Live a great venue. How often do you do these these solo gigs and more importantly, how the other fellows and third? I'd line feel about that. They're very upset. It's not it's it's not that they're not now it's more like they're hurt and just made like. I think they're just standing there in a day. They're going to get through it. I'd like to say that we're going to get through it together. But I even thinking not with them. So I'm fine. That's why I said he's one of the greatest funnel men in rock and roll music because he really gets it. I'll come back later. I'll see the rest of my bandmates. We'll have a hug, and and we'll just we'll move on where everything will settle down. Calm win. You know are coming when you do a show like this bring in the town with U D bring them to town with you. And they just wait back at the hotel. Why you do your gig? Yeah. They're looking at me right now, they're all sitting on the couch like puppy. A DVD these very often these solo gigs. No ninety seven x play blind music a lot and it just inspires kind of loyalty style. So that's what gets me to trace across the country, and and south nice like they're playing like they're playing ten. From that. We did we we did a charity records. We did a blind charity records for arts education and. Uneven playing one of the songs off it. And you know, it's just a really good feeling. So. Well, you're in the right place because they're our sister station just down the hall, and we're an all talk station, but we played bumper music. I'm sure you're familiar with we come in and out of breaks. And I'd say third eye blind is a heavy diet for us you from from jumper, of course, to graduate to never let you go. How's it going to be semi charmed life? Of course, we have a regular diet of third eye blind. So it's a very friendly area for you here, and whatever we can do to kind of sweeten the pot. Taking you back here. More maybe even with the band. We'll do our part as talk radio show. Well, you know, I love I love chatting it up. So maybe next time were in town. Come in and mole. We'll we'll get something. Controversy. "Just picked up his model trumpeter. It's funny. I just saw third eye blind this weekend in concert with like the most nine ever. Yeah, for them. I heard of course it was. I heard that it was uneven. The bands from back then like some of them are sound great. Pretty good. So it was ever clear stone temple pilots third eye blind in three eleven, and they all actually sounded pretty good ever. Clear was actually pretty spot on. Something Backes. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I mean, the guy who hates his fucking dad. He loves boots though. Yeah, loves them. But when Stephen Jenkins came on, he talked so much now that you say that your story makes sense because he was like, we're recording a little album in Silverlake. So if you guys see me in a coffee shop police say Hello? Oh my God and being like, maybe I'll be here. I don't know, but I don't bite and it was like this whole like like an old person in old folks home, begging, their family to visit. Come visit me third, I thirsty Stibal. Yeah, right. We're going to get to know you'll little bit better in a moment Julian. I feel like you just got every. Memory asshole. But first we're gonna tell our listeners what we're talking about today. The first ever heard of it. Crying really. Good talking about miles. I was in Times Square lake twelve years ago or something, and I was leaving MTV because I was shooting some talking heads. You know, we love eighties and fog out and twenty feet in front of me and of crowded time square was I saw Stephen Jenkins walking towards me and I was already upset that I recognize Stephen, right, right. And he had like a model under his arm. And this way after they were like big. This was a few years ago. So that was years ago, but they were big like twenty model plan model boat would. It was a model of hair moti. But anyway, he was walking and I was like, oh my God, that's even Jenkins. And then a car horn honked in the middle of Times Square in the middle of the day. So it's like everyone in the world is in city. Yeah. A car horn honked and Stephen Jenkins looked over at it and nodded his head like Yup, is for me. The world around this man. "It past or to use ice water. Splash yourself your face for thirty seconds. Do that for thirty seconds. Stop judy. Again for three seconds. But do that for five minutes that will help bring down you intensity of what you're feeling and they make it help help you think more. Clearly, you can also find somebody asked him to help you get outside of your head or call the crisis text line. Our text the crisis text line or call the one eight hundred two seven three eight two five five number. You know? It may be that this happens in shorter period of time. But knowing what to do in the urge arises is really important if we can plan ahead for if that happens, I think things could be very different continuing the harsh statistics in the military. Our next guest is the lead singer for the band third. I've line Stephen Jenkins whose massive hit jumper has become an unfortunate anthem of sorts to many fans over the years. The lyrics are powerful. And for good reason. And they like so many songs are based on a real moment here. Stephen with the backstory on the song and lyrics of jumper song. Jumper was written about a friend huge off the Coronado bridge in San Diego. At the time is a conservative navy town, and he was gay and coming out in high school, or I think he was actually being outed in high school and the bullying team that he felt from this was more than you can bear. And he jumped off the bridge and killed himself. The song jumper is kind of a Noir. It's really what you would say to somebody after the fact, so it's it's. In a way. It's speaking to the dad, and it's it's that says it's really sort of dark quality to and what I've noticed over the years of singing the song is that it's really become the most exalted lifted part of our show because all of us. I think have this urge of really really wishing that we could say to each other. And also the needs to hear that this darkness that seems overwhelming that all of us feel in our lives at times it does lift it does actually grow. And that's that's what the power that song is. And I'm really I didn't know that that was what was going to happen with the song. Jumper to say this simple idea that that we actually I would understand that. I have more understanding available for you. We have more we have more compassionate available for each other than we may realize at times. So I hope that when you see people on your lives who starts to go into that dark place to try to. To let them know that there is actually this wealth of compassion that is available to them even in times where they can't see it. I think that that is the the underline message of jumper. Dr whiteside. What do people say is helpful when they open up and say, they are suicidal and based on the research, what prevents people who are suicidal from reaching out to others. People say the things that prevent them from sharing this with other people are the concerns that they'll actually be thrown in the hospital that they'll be taken away in handcuffs. It's something will happen. That's not within their control that people will think they're crazy that people will judge them. All these are the are common concerns. And actually there is these things do happen. It's not it's doesn't sometimes it does actually happen. But knowing what people are afraid of knowing what their concerns are can help us have a more, compassionate and useful response. So what can you do? I mean, we've been talking about it all morning. This morning is is to make sure you're really listening your present in you're paying attention to what they're saying before you're trying to solve any problems. You're you're being present with them, and that really has close to home. We've got some very personal stories on our website right now from our sister radio stations, like Kirkman a hand from w.
