So I'm talking about Mike. You've seen probably seen it. You know a guy like him. He's 27. He had a job to go the other way. Yeah, I wonder about that, You know? Oh, it's so easy to do. I mean, you know, we talked a little bit about it yesterday about you know, he stayed Mentally. He stayed in the game. He kept playing the game mentally as if everything that was going to be big and and get the most out of it. That is so difficult to do When you have your bubble popped, and they say you're going down. That's a bubble pop man. That's that's rough. I think what he's doing right now is the essence of a professional. You know, you can't always dictate your your scenario. Yeah, you know, oftentimes, you know you're in a line to get it fast because there's talent ahead of you and And then you have to go down and stay ready yet to stay sharp. It's so hard to do because you just think you're not included. And you're down there by yourself. You're alone. And you have all that alone time. Mentally that you beat yourself up because you're not doing enough to get back to the big leagues. And then you wonder if you're ever going to get the call. And then lo and behold, you know you're one hamstring away from being back in the big leagues. And in this case, it was a concussion to Austin Slater that opened up the door for Duggar. So what does he do? He comes up here and Any performs. He was ready. He did the work Mentally. He did the work Central physically, and now he's and then they're paying huge dividends. And, you know, the beautiful thing about it is we talk about how Logan well, is not surprised by any of the successful you say the same thing, too. About Stephen Duggar. You get to that point as a player where you know you can play. And you can play in the big leagues, And when you get opportunity when you have success, you're not surprised by it. You know, In fact, you might even say, Well, what took me so long? I mean, that's that's such an incredible mental toughness. And that's what a professional player does, and that's why I think what he's done to go down. Stay sharp, mentally. Stay sharp, physically come back up, get the opportunity and perform. That is the essence of a professional baseball player. So good like you never had. I don't have ear every transaction from your career. But you did. And then the next year I didn't play winter ball for the first time. I didn't play instructional league. I didn't do anything. I went back home and I played darts. Bold played golf and drink beard, and my whole idea was, you know, if I put put some more weight on, I'll be able so harder. So instead of coming into camp around 2 10 Came in around 2 25. Well My hips were slow. My arm was slow. I suffered at a miserable spring. Herman Franks. Our manager says, You know, I'm taking you north and I don't want to. So that was a shot in the arm. So I get and I started off in the rotation and they don't do Then I get put in the pen and after a month they sent me out at that point time I went from prospect to suspect Yeah. So I go down the triple A. And I The first three start some owned owned three with an E R a in the sixes. So Harry Dunlop who is our skipper, and God bless here, he lives and he lives in Sacramento. And I owe Harry Dunlop my career. Because he came up to me after I was Oh, and three and in the area of six as he says, Are you ready to listen and wow Yeah, I am area. As a matter of fact, he corrected me. In three minutes. Wow. You fix my mechanics in three minutes, I went out the next start to complete game. The next one through 10 innings struck out 14 or whatever it was, And then I was back in the big leagues. And but it was such a head slap. But what I learned down there was number one you had to work. You had to be in shape. And number two. You had to trust your stuff. And when I got back up have being sent down. You know, prior to that I was I was so defensive. I was trying not to get sent down. And because of that I was I was defensive. I wasn't aggressive was nibbling. And when I got back up there, I said, screw it. I'm going to find out Do I belong here or not? I'm going at people. You know if if I belong here, I'll stay. If not, you know, Get after it. Go back, get my degree and teach Man. Oh, man. What a story. I'm glad I asked. I did not know that that you had that experience. And And now you see Stephen Duggar all these years later, different position, but dealing with it's the same. And what a story he is. And yet another another chapter of Giants glory. Mike 89 wins crazy. They win today. That's 90. That's what the 2010 World Series team one Mike, this win totals. Getting crazy. Yeah. You know what we talk about about Logan? Well, we talk about it with Stephen Duggar, and you can talk about the whole team. They're not impressed with it. They have work to do. And this is what's so wonderful about about being around these guys. You know, they're not reading the press clippings. They're not. They're not fallen victim to. You know, the false confidence, you know? The only way these guys feel that they can go out there as if they put in the time. You know, you watch how they come back off of a road trip on the East Coast. They come back in on a Monday night game and you know they're tired. You watch, you know, Do they take half of BP? Or do they do they do optional BP? No, they do full work day and they get after it. And you know, these are little things that you look at being in the game for so long that impresses you about the bunch. But again, it's the comments they make after the game, you know they're enjoying it, but they realize there's work to do and 89 wins does not impress him. They have work to do now, and you're right. And I think that what they've done the last two days in Denver is the ultimate example. You come off that Dodgers series so emotional, so charged up go to Denver on short notice with no rest. And do what they did that that's exactly what you're talking about This great point. That's exactly what I'm talking about. And they do all the little things you know that you know. They just don't They're not comfortable if they miss a workout, they're not. They're not comfortable. If they haven't put in the time and and credit their coaching staff to keep these guys all fresh mentally, they're finding different ways to get the same work done. You know, which is what was what you need to do. And, uh And then I just think that you know they have their best balls yet to come. And so do they. Well, you know, this is gonna sound like a strange question. But, hey, I've asked strange questions before. So what the hell right, But I'm wondering when you're talking about this coaching staff and keeping them fresh and keeping them professional. There was a picture of this weekend of Gabe Kapler walking in the tunnels shirtless and the guy is I mean, Mike is really all known that he's in shape. It looks like a line back. This was NFL linebacker. I don't know if it's the angle of the photo or they Photoshop did or what I mean, the veins are popping the and Mike and then on top of that the broadcast yesterday, Flem and Estes and the great directors at NBC Sports.

It's been more how guys develop at the big league level, and we were just talking to show Kapadia about, you know, NFL quarterbacks and time to develop in the amount of time it takes them to figure things out. Now we're seeing guys develop quicker or we're seeing the same. I guess timeframe of development, but we're seeing guys make the adjustment he was focusing on Josh Allen saying. It's a guy who we didn't anticipate all of a sudden to make this jump looking website guy who they had high hopes for, But the development happened rapidly this season and in a year where, he said Couple of I l stands. I don't know that we could have foreseen this or anticipated this. And here Marty Lurie frequently talked about. You know the mosaic of the season and the surprises that are going to come about that sort of help you piece together what the season is going to be or what the season is or means, Um Or basically surprises. There are going to help you inject life into your season and sometimes act as an extra acquisition. Logan webs Perfect for that definition. Have evacuated because of the called or fire, and and luckily, the danger seems to be waiting a little bit there. But bear break ins have been reported at about 70 different homes and vehicles. Normally there's just a few per week and it's 70 this way. Uh, part of me likes it. This is all based on natural disasters, some of them unnatural, but, uh, the animals are fighting back. And it's coinciding with the Giants fighting back as well. And so I don't know. Somewhere in there. There's something that's kind of engaging, but anyway, glad you're with us. But at the end of the day, if you're surprising team, maybe there's a reason. No one expected you to do this. And you know all of a sudden you're trading. I don't know. Like Joey barred away your training Elliott Ramos and you look back and you go. Oh, right. We were kind of a year ahead of schedule. Whoopsie Doodle. Here's where, though the don't panic thing definitely goes off The top rope. Easy is is a part of the ethos now is that you're starting pitching is still really good. What has been the tip of the spear for the Giants team this season, even admits this this bad run right now. It's still the part that's carrying this team and doesn't look like it's going to slow down any time soon. It is, but you know to be a little bit of a contrarian. That's still the part of the team where I look at and go. You know, I just hold my breath a little bit, not because of the of who's doing the good things difficult. Funny's good. Alex Wood is the talented pitcher. Cueto's good, but they have a really recent history of being hurt or being ineffective. And that's the one thing if you're going into the second half 162 game season, the year after Weird Mutant 60 game season, you're not entirely sure what the second half is going to look like four pitchers who are ramping up their workload. So I I agreed the tip of the spear is a good way to put it. It's why the Giants were the first to 50 wins at the same time. It's just if that might be even more than the bullpen might be an area where, if if I'm running the Giants, I'm saying, Okay, maybe one more starters degree take a little bit of the pressure pressure off of Gosman. "You to a pulp offensive juggernaut as of late that the series against Texas and then into Washington kind of a bummer, especially, I guess the team that basically three to number five starters Eric Fetty and a and Joe Ross. Neither guy has been able to sort of claim that number five spot for the Diamondbacks. She didn't go out and see, you know. Ace Stephen Strasburg faced Pat Corbyn and it is the max yours for a third of an inning. Uh oh. No. Was that Friday, I guess before he gets in and out of the ballgame and in the Kevin Gausman start anyway, the excuse me in the disco funny start, but I I I think we talked about this in the past. But the Giants of sort of quieted us because of the different phases that have come up and help carry the offense. Guys like Stephen Duggar, Brandon Crawford's obviously been fantastic Lamont way. Junior seemed like he was impossible to get out for a couple of weeks there, but we talked to, you know in the early parts of the season when they would go through a few offensive struggles, and they haven't been admit a team that's played from behind a whole lot. And when they are behind you do feel like they're Capable of putting together enough at bats to drive in some runs and and by driving runs. I simply mean by hitting some home runs, and they've yet to to sort of right to ship over the last four or five games. I guess we can say fewest runs. The Giants scored a four game series since the opening series at Dodger Stadium in 2018 Remember that four game set where Joe Panik hit a solo home run on back to that day's opening day, and on the second day of the season? I guess it was like March 29th march 30th. Somewhere in their bottom line is the Giants have not scored. This few of runs in a four game said since they won two games of a four game set against the Dodgers back in 2018, in which this gorgeous two runs, so this was a little bit frustrating yesterday, But again, they have not been able to, uh Start to get off the schneid over the last couple of days, But again, the pitching is carried them. I saw a note from Andy bag early in his piece in the athletic after yesterday's game that if all the games the Giants have played this year, I guess we can look at 65 games. Right 40 and 25 15 games over 500. They were the first team in the National League to get to the 40 win marks. Still the only team in the National League with 40 wins right now. 40 and 25 of the 65 games. They've played 54 of them. They have had a lead at some point in the game. How incredible is that of the 65 games? They've played 54 of them. They've had a lead at some point in the game, and three of those of the of the 11 that they did not hold. The lead in. Three of them were the Dodgers series, but they didn't lead at all. It's also there only three game losing streak this season, so I'll have to pay attention to the Giants. Basically, their game plan their strategy. Their focus on grinding out these at bats is the Sustainable and it's something that does not generally go through slumps like we're seeing right now, at least through the 1st 3rd of the season, little more than a third of the season. That's what we've seen at this point. So when gave Capital was asked after the game about how you pinpoint the stuff. He's not making a big deal out of this. He's not saying yet. We we can't hit right now. We're not finding it. He's basically saying, Hey, man, we're going to stick to our strategy. We're going to stick to our plan. Basically crimes it down to a simple, simple one sentence here. Baseball is hard and sometimes it's kind of random. Here's Gabe Kapler. Um so I don't really have anything first glance because for the most part, um you know the approaches isn't really changing, but that's sort of the variability of baseball. You can sometimes have the the same approach and have a really good game plan set up and Um, And sometimes you swing through the one pitch that that you should put in play. Maybe you just miss another. Maybe you just go right out of his own, but just barely, And that's enough to put the ball in play. There's a lot of of randomness in this sport as we all know. So I just don't think there is one thing to point to. At this point. They're gonna dig a little bit. Go back some layers and see what we come up with. I just don't necessarily know that, um, have anything specific right now? Yeah, I I get what he's saying here is that we've put together this game plan and these sort of focused strategies per game or per series or how we're going to go about facing an opposing starting pitcher and If you keep implementing these game plans that following your strategy and buying into it, it's a war of attrition. You know, sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose sometimes, Dave, it rains. That's how it went this weekend for the Giants. They want to. They lost two and they got a little bit of rain. Even in yesterday's game, some get Capital was asked actually, by Carrie Crowley. You hear him here all the time on KNBR. Kerry was asking him about how many times the Giants of Gotta East they've gone East now, more than any team in the National League West to this point in the season. I was thinking about this the other day as far as the makeup games would be concerned against. When the game got rained down on Thursday, basically was thinking boy, could they play? Remember on Friday we were hearing there was potential for them to to get rained out again, based on how bad the weather was on Friday, and so there was a thought, like Are they going to Try to squeeze in. If that happens, would they squeeze into seven inning doubleheaders? One Saturday one Sunday or would they played three games? Do one double header and then try to make up one game? Potentially if necessary, and I thought was well, they've got so the gentleman of Philly. They've been to Miami. They have now been to Washington, so they haven't seen the Mets. Yet. They haven't gone to Atlanta. So that was kind of the thought was haven't seen which dates they play them. But had they been rained out. Maybe you could have wedged in an extra game, their game capital. I think pretty happy. That's not happening, Carrie Crowley said. What's the biggest challenge for you guys shouldn't play great on the on the East Coast. Obviously difficult to go back east and lose that amount of time or that period of time and try to get your body right game. What's been the biggest challenge as far as playing all these East Coast games in the first half of the season. I think the challenge is the biggest challenge is going west to east for. I think for all of us to sleep patterns get really, um interrupted and look again, not not going to go back and make excuses for the series. You just have to play better and and also, you can make a strong case that we had some some time to adjust. Um, and to transition, and you know, today wasn't a good game and we have plenty of time to adjust. Going back is is also a challenge. But I think just getting back into our home ballpark is going to be good for us. These guys having an opportunity to sleeping in their beds, and not in a hotel room, um which at times can be taxing. These guys are away from their families. I think that'll that'll potentially provide a boost just being around their loved ones again..

What a week It has been the Giants to the Houdini Act, getting outta Arizona on Wednesday night, winning 5 to 4. Losing to the Dodgers on Thursday and then last night, one of the epic epic giant Dodger Games and Let me tell you fans, this rivalry goes back. 100 years. You look in the sixties, you could look in the thirties, the forties. You can look in this century as well. And there are always giant Dodger games is John the Count Mont. A few SCO and all the things that have happened between Giants Dodgers. And last night the game came through for everybody. It was amazing if you're just waking up, or if you just getting into baseball for the weekend, the Giants end up winning 8 to 5 in 10 innings last night, and believe me It looked like an easy giant win that turned into Ah heartbreaker and then turned into ecstasy for the ball club as they scored three runs in the 10th inning off the Dodgers to win it 8 to 5, But before we get to that, Couple of shadows this morning to my dear friend, Elliott Schwartz. Dr. Elliott Schwartz to for many, many years was the A's team physician, Warriors and Raiders and just a wonderful man and has always been there for everybody. Elliot is fighting a tough battle right now, and our love goes out to him and Patty and Nathan and we think about him a lot. Ah, big shadow this week to Golden Gate urology. And Dr Andy Pinkney. There were so many big plays and Larry Krueger bill and I'll talk about it in the next segment, but just to go through it a little bit because who's on my mind, and I had a tough time falling asleep last night after the game. Really was that exciting a lot of big plays, and Stephen Duggar hit a home run last night. But the play of Lamont way Junior last night I thought was outstanding. A couple of walks for him A couple of outstanding maybe three outstanding defense of plays last night for Lamont Way Junior at first base. And he really came through a beautiful throw to the plate to cut down a runner throw was right on the plate. Well, when I'll talk about that tomorrow about that play for him. But in the 10th inning with Kenley Jansen on the mound, then there was an out and the Giants needed to get that first run in and Lamont Wait, just took a no to pitch and just ripped it into right field that put the Giants ahead. 6 to 5. After that Evan Longoria off the bench, a double 10 R B. I's for him. In his last eight games, two more runs scored and the Giants went up 8 to 5, and that eventually was The winning margin, But you got to go back to the eighth inning and Buster Posey a three run homer to put the Giants up 5 to 2. Proposes Homer number 10 on the season for him and number 1 50 of his career. So all right, we go to the ninth inning and Tyler Rogers comes in, and you're feeling pretty good. And before you know it, there's two out two on On Austin Barnes comes up and he knocks one out. Knocks one out to tie it up 552 out in the bottom of the ninth and it's 55 and then Albert pull host comes up and let's face it. He's going to be a first time Hall of Famer. And interesting story to watch him with the Dodgers. And Rodgers. Those the pitch pull host gets under it and let me tell you, Charley Steiner. Everybody else who broadcast this game thought it was gone. As it majestically floated out to left field and you're saying is it gone? Is it gone? And my talk man goes back to the wall jumps times asleep perfectly. The glove goes over the wall, and he brings it back and pull host is out. Everybody thought it was a home run Pull host thought it was a home run. And the inning ended and save the Giants, or else it would have been a 65 walk off for the Dodgers. Incredible, Really. It was an incredible finish to that inning and your breath was taken away. But what it was was Giants Dodgers, and that's what it comes down to San Diego one last night, and the Dodgers, of course, end up losing the Giants win so both the Giants and Dodgers air tied again. We're heading into the one third market the season it'll be Monday when the Giants play the Angels and already they've got 31 wins at one third. So Raff is a math genius. You know that. Three times. 31 is 93. This was a team that was supposed to win seventies to 74 games. So amazing third of the season for the San Francisco Giants. Other things that happened in the game last night, and I want to point out a few of them. As I said, we'll go through him in the first hour of the show tonight. Yeah. Donovan Solano, a big sacrifice fly for him, Mike you Stransky. A couple of walks last night, scored some runs. Uh, Anthony, the squid, Funny boy. He was all over the place last night. Still a fabulous game for him and the Giants and the beating Bueller, which is a big deal because today it's areas and Logan Web and that will be another good challenge for the Giants. This one had a lot of great plays in a little bit of everything, but to sue, Go, goes back and left field and robs Crawford with a couple on base. Crawford hitting the ball really, really well.
